I just finished watching your Ford video, I loved it ! I usually don't take so long to watch videos like that but uni has been kicking my ass and I wanted to make sure I could really listen to what you were saying instead of just putting it on in the background. I went in a little apprehensive because of the "NPD?" in the thumbnail, and was mentally preparing myself for some weapons-grade oof-dom, but I think you handled it well. (1/4)

Personally, as someone who has BPD and is close to many ppw/NPD, I think Ford is good NPD representation. His reliance on outside validation, ego compensating for massive insecurity, massively idolizing those he looks up to and that idolization vanishing in an *instant* when they don't match his beliefs about them (this can be an NPD thing!), fantasies of fame and fortune, identity disturbance (defining himself as one thing and one thing only), (2/?)

all that coupled with his history of a rocky relationship with self-definition and conditional praise from authority figures screams NPD to me. This isn't all in the DSM, but it's def part of living with NPD. And I think it's a good thing! Like you mentioned, the fact he has these traits and still gets a happy ending is wonderful. To me, such an NPD-coded character still being shown to love his family, to do what's right, to make amends, shows that these disorders don't make us monsters. (3/?)

The fact that his NPD traits have a clear origin shows how so often cluster B personality disorders are born of fear, trauma, and regrets (not always, but a lot of the time). People think cluster Bs are just born "evil," so the fact we can essentially see the evolution of Ford's traumagenic NPD is something I rather like. (4/?)

I just wanted to share something from the perspective of someone with a cluster B disorder who also knows many ppw/NPD, since in the video you mentioned a lack of those voices. I will say that (also speaking as someone with BPD), I still don't quite think the headcanon is one of mine, but I am glad that other ppl with cluster B disorders resonate with it (though, of course, I do know that there are a couple of ppl with NPD that I know who dislike the way the headcanon is discussed or who disagree with it - yada yada no community is a monolith and all that).

That part of my video was very difficult to write, but I am glad that I did alright with the subject matter.

To reiterate for people who might not have seen the video, my issue with the NPD headcanon is not so much the headcanon itself and whether or not it applies to Ford, but the ways that some people discuss how and if it applies. There are so many posts and comments by people (who may or may not have cluster B disorders - no way to know), saying things like "Ford doesn't care about others and acts selfishly and only uses others as tools - I headcanon him as having NPD and lacking empathy for this reason" and it veers into ableism really quickly. In the video, I compare it to 2015-era headcanons that Ford would be abusive to Dipper and Mabel because he is "paranoid" and thinks they're working with Bill, a headcanon that also veers into considering those with mental illness as being inherently dangerous. I think headcanoning Ford as having any mental illness or condition is fine, but people need to be careful in the ways they talk about it, because (in the context of the Stan Wars we saw in 2015-16), it can quickly veer into the territory of leveraging the symptoms of mental illness to win fandom wars or to characterize our blorbos, and we often don't consider where that leaves REAL people with these conditions.

I explain this all better in the video then I am here, in an off-the-cuff response to an ask, but hopefully that summarizes my feelings clearly.

As someone who is autistic snd also has a physical disability, it is so interesting to me to see how some low support needs autistic spaces online act as if acknowledging autism is a disability is bad?. Or like. They want to acknowledge it’s a disability but then refuse to acknowledge it’s actually disabling.

Idk it’s really interesting to me to see how low support needs autism spaces are online vs how low support needs physical disability spaces are online. I think a lot of it comes from people acting as though autism is only difficult because of societal pressure to conform and social norms, and while that def makes it difficult, even if those things didn’t exist, autism would STILL be disabling. Like oh people don’t think I am awkward and rude all the time so I don’t have to mask when interacting with people? Great! I’m still going to have random meltdowns bc my body feels indescribably uncomfortable due to sensory issues and gag and throw up over bad food textures and want to cry if multiple sounds happen at once! Im still going to get overwhelmed over basic tasks and not be able to express myself properly! And idk why it is bad for me to say I would rather not experience those things!

YES THIS!!! It’s Like, great for u if u are so lightly troubled by ur autism that if the world was more accommodating u would have no disability anymore, but that I think is not the general experience with autism and u can’t act like it is 😭😭. I think part of this attitude also comes with autism being equated with queerness. Which like, yes, lots of autistic ppl r queer, but it’s become a thing where ppl r treating autism *like* it’s queerness. Which erm, obviously if the world was more accepting being queer would not be a problem, but this same logic does not apply to disabilities 😭😭. It’s genuinely extremely invalidating when the support groups for disabilities are centered around ppl who are only vaguely disabled to the point where they insist it’s not even an issue and it shouldn’t be for u either. I’ve also noticed a thing where autistic ppl with low support needs are driving the conversation over what language we should use to describe autism, which is just incredibly unhelpful on so many levels.

and, obviously I don’t think there’s anything wrong with creating a space to be proud of and accept ur autism, that’s great and nice. There’s importance in talking about joy while living disabled. The issue is when the conversation becomes “autism isn’t a disability it’s basically just my personality and being burdened by in ur life is offensive to me”. It’s honestly made me feel rlly insecure and unwelcome when I want to learn to be happy with being autistic and to accept myself, but the ppl who r driving this movement don’t have a place for me bcus their acceptance requires a lack of suffering. Like no, I am not just a special snowflake in a world that doesn’t understand me, I AM the problem, and no matter how much support and acceptance I have I will continue to be the problem bcus I am disabled and will continue to be disabled regardless of the environment I am in. And that should be ok! I think we should have spaces where we can talk about how that’s ok without the reduction of the suffering

Sunday confession: Zendaya being blamed for the erasure of black women in media is wrong and unfair. I recently saw a tweet where someone watched Challengers and said she was miscast and Myha'la, an incredible actress on Industry, and it's like, why is it that, in the black community we have this scarcity mindset when it comes to success of one black actress? If one succeeds, it's impossible for others to do the same, if not the same, in their own way?

There can only be one great black actress, but other communities, they are allowed multiple?

Colorism is a real thing but that's not the reason there is erasure of unambiguous black women, it's those actresses not having a fanbase since they were teens and not being marketable. A great example in Naomi Campbell and Ayo Edebiri.

Let's focus on Naomi first.

She has dominated the fashion industry since the 80s and at one point was the highest paid model if her time, even more than her white counterparts and Tyra Banks, a lightskinned black woman who most ppl online would say she has more privilege than Naomi yet, Naomi was more successful. Colourism didn't limit her success, so that's where I get confused when ppl complain, ppl forget their history.

Ciceley Tyson, Lola Folana, Viola Davis, Kerry Washington, Robin Givens, Vivica A.Fox are black actresses who despite hardships, have not been put in a box and played complex characters and compare it to Z's filmography, the difference is loud. Z, as of recent, its allowed to be able to play complex characters, and yet ppl assume she's superior to them when they equate her visibility equivalent to better success is so backwards. The biggest thing that has helped Z is fashion cause it allowed her to create an avenue that wasn't tied down to her role, and fashion is universal in a way.

Ayo Edebiri is a great example of being a successful black actress. She's not even 30 and has achieved so much in the last few yrs than most actors do in a decade. Being a writer and director also helps, but we all saw her first as an actress. Yes she's dark skinned but she's also unbelievably talented and those ppl who complain don't take her success as a win because they have an image on how a black woman should be in hollywood and because she's not "glamourous", they dismiss her. How frustrating.

Jayme Lawson, Chloe and Halle Bailey, Lovie Simone, Carlacia Grant, Ryan Destiny, GeffriMaya, Vivian Oparah, Jodie Turner-Smith are just the few unambiguous black actresses who are young and killing it so I'm sorry I'm not seeing this scarcity.

If the argument was there aren't enough black led romcoms or sitcoms like Girlfriends or the black version of Sex and the City, I can understand because then it's an industry problem, not a ppl problem.

First of all, I def agree with you....I don't think that Z herself should be blamed for what we see in Hollywood. To me, it's society, as well as the industry which should be blamed.

Well, a lot of times, there's this scarcity mindset in the Black community because Hollywood itself only allows one of us to be super successful at a time. It's not even that black actresses don't exist in this country, it's more so that we're (YOUNG Black actresses) not given the meaty roles (or media coverage) that would really help to catapult our careers to superstardom.

Zendaya has been smart in carving a small part for herself in this industry and even outside of the industry, which is a very strategic and wise move, because she knows that there aren't many roles for young actresses who look like her in this industry.

All of the other actresses that you mentioned like Kerry, Viola, etc ..... most weren't doing meaty film roles in their 20s. I have always said that hollywood doesn't have a problem with older black actresses, but when it comes to beautiful, younger black actresses, it's almost like they've tried to pretend like we don't even exist. And when I realized that eighty five percent of casting directors are middle-aged white, women that told me everything I needed to know lol 😂

Ooooh…… I feel like most ppl who follow me know im not the biggest fan of “all the ketsukanes live/get un-amalgamated” au stuff but this is a really interesting way to go about it. The before the loss of her family route is the most intriguing option that I wanna rant abt, im thinking during game but before pacifist ending -> after integrity but before experiments as the timeline here

On the surface, it does feel like the solution to all her problems, her family is back! But like. I feel she’d get very self destructive with it. She’d go abt it in a real siffrin isat way: initially seeing it as a miracle before it slowly destroys her in an entirely new way, and not telling anyone abt it bc it’s her mess to clean up.

Like ok. Knowing that your husband kept an entire second life hidden from you, exaggerated his abilities to encourage you to finish the job, put his experiments before his own family… she should berate him, she should be angry! With Kanako, I think she’d start having a lot of doubt her parenting abilities given what she allowed to happen. And man. Clover. She’d definitely be more hesitant to go along with any plan to kill them. That decision was heavily influenced by her whole sunk cost situation: if she doesn’t do it, chujin and kanakos sacrifices were for nothing. Like I read the Arun/Maitre scene as louis reverted back to a time where he had power and agency and armand fell into place as that’s what he does, and because it manipulates Louis into thinking he has the power. Something which is undoubtedly made easier for armand to play and for louis to believe due to armands past.

It isn't by itself. Those are the character's real backgrounds.

Ppl keep mentioning what Jacob said after 2x6 so let me put it here

"Louis is seemingly on top of everything — he's become this very callous, cold businessman and kind of fallen back into 1910s Louis, just with a new shine," Anderson explains. (src)

I'm gonna do my best to break this down, cuz it's a few things.

a) The fandom usually uses this to call Louis a "pimp" without calling him a pimp. A pimp has a specific look and attitude that ppl strongly associate with stereotypes of black men. Alluding to this history with Louis can be a way to imply racial slurs. It's all done intentionally to never say any words out loud so that it's easier to claim innocent intent and make everyone else look crazy for "reading too much into it," "looking for drama," etc.

A pimp is technically what he was and what the show has called him too, but notice how that is not a word Jacob is using to describe anything. The fandom has been using that in a lot of ways to say antiblack shit from the first moment it was known here. It's not an issue by itself that Louis has this history, bcuz his whole character is "Louis" not "pimp." He's a complex character and also the main character and the audience is meant to feel what he's feeling. He's not a one-dimensional, black side character, which is where this would fall into being problematic.

If u aren't familiar with this, there are several antiblack stereotypes. The stories from the 2x7 trial and the way the animations are drawn rely on these a lot in order to talk about Louis and Claudia.

This is one part of it. Bcuz the emphasis is more on "businessman" but a lot of ppl want to slide into "pimp" so they can analyze things thru an antiblack perspective (whether they're conscious of this or not).

b) Armand's history is real too, but when ur bringing in words like "slave" around an interracial relationship where the brown man holds all the real power but ur saying he's the "slave" to the black man who is also a "pimp"....that's a problem. Armand was a slave in his own life outside of Louis. He is not Louis' slave. He can never be Louis' slave. Louis does not have any real power in that relationship.

What Assad said about the relationship was not trying to outright imply this, but the fandom will use what he said to argue antiblack points about this (that's not his fault either btw). Especially bcuz ppl overlay BDSM relationships to Loumand, which also use "slave" and "submissive" for terms, and don't consider the racial implications or actual power dynamics between them for these either (conscious intent or not). To put it simply, yes. The Loumand Arun/Maître scenes don't actually give Louis any power. It's something Armand allows to happen so he can manipulate Louis in those moments. Louis can't abuse power he doesn't have. Ppl's framing of it as if the power dynamics could *ever* change between them is the problem. It will never change. Framing Louis as an aggressor who could actually overpower Armand, enslave him, do whatever else, calls back to stereotypes of black men instead of the character we're seeing in front of us in Louis.

I'm guessing u mean the sex scene but this applies for all of the Maître/Arun scenes: no, the show isn't antiblack for this. It's the fan's interpretations that can go into this realm. The show obviously wants u to notice and remember their histories, but what is shown is taking care to place emphasis on what these things mean for their relationship in a sensitive and respectful way. It's not watering it down to some cheap visuals about "Louis the pimp and his sexy slave."

it's because i understand the bigender / genderfluid hcs, in all honesty they make sense, i could def see vil as not being cis, plus, they r only be adding rep to ppl. there's no problem w the genderfluid or bigender hc because it's easy to see someone who is agaisnt gender roles to be trans and it's easy to see vil as someone who identifies with more than one gender

however, the transfem hc is bad because it goes AGAINST vil's character.

had vil not been a character that explicitly says he despises gender roles and even gets angry at the mention of dance moves being "too feminine" for a man to make by epel, there wouldn't be any problem w it, because it makes sense to see a character that presents in a feminine way as a trans woman just as much as it does to see them as just a cis dude who likes to dress feminine. but the whole point with vil's character is that he dislikes and refuses to follow gender roles, hence why he wears makeup, uses dresses, heels and acts in a way many consider feminine, because he wants to fight back the mindset that men need to be masculine and women need to be feminine. the transfem vil hc goes against that because it takes vil, a character that is constantly mentioned to be a man that fights the way society views men, and says "he's actually a woman" all because of the way he acts. do you get it? it's pushing gender roles in the one character in twst that explicitly hates it, it's literally doing what he has been fighting through his career. in the jp game vil calls himself by a gender neutral term, one that is commonly used by women, because he doesn't believe there is such a thing that is "exclusively for women" in the eng, the way they translated was by making him call himself a queen, that is a term made for women but that now days you see being used as a gender neutral term, it doesn't make sense to use those two things as "transfem coding" because literally a quick research on vil's character will show you that he used such terms BECAUSE he is a man and uses them as an attack to the gender roles. if vil WERE to be a trans woman, she would act masculine instead, call herself a king and use terms like handsome, because by following the logic, despite the way he identifies and was born as, he'd still hate gender roles and would fight them, especially because people think that transfem/transwomen HAVE to be feminine, and the ones that aren't get invalidated and hated on a lot of times by their OWN COMMUNITY. the transfem vil hc just simply doesn't make any sense at all and it was made to push gender roles onto a character that was made to break them, furthermore ppl that hc this r like normally super fucking annoying and keep pushing it as canon as if they played through all of vil's stories with their eyes closed and didn't actually take anything he said in.

Kunikida wanted to scold her but didn’t for fear of her ability.

-Dazai kissed you and asked specially for a kiss on his cheek so lipstick would leave a mark on it. He happily showed up to work, albeit a bit late… but oh well. Kunikida barely wanted to talk about showing up late with that mark on his cheek. He grabbed Dazai by the collar and shook him violently and droned on and on about how ‘It’s improper to show up to work like that’ and blah blah blah, he didn’t care. He just wanted to tease others about it. You were the one thing worth living for in his opinion, and he’d live just for you. Unless…double suicide?

Rampo knows, but doesn’t care. So what? People know you’re dating, or at least they will now. And if they dare to comment negatively, they must suffer the wrath of our favorite little snacker. 

When you placed the kiss on his cheek after handing him his daily snacks, he skipped to work happily, and went to go sit down. and SO TRUE !! i spent my childhood online. like i was on forums and shit when i was 6 ( ꩜ ᯅ ꩜;) i was in a very very bad situation and escaping onto the internet made me feel better. i could pretend not to be from my home there. but so many years spent on the internet without anything in real life that was good really made me worse in a lot of ways - like ... the internet was the only place people ever listened to me, let alone interacting with me out of choice. in my home, i wasn't treated as a person. my parents didn't even really use my name, the name they gave me, until i was older. but online people would say "hi ghost! how was your day?" and it made me feel real. but now i feel more real online than offline... and if i am real IRL, then that means all the bad stuff that happened to me IRL did happen. so i just sort of mentally shut it all down and i wish i wasn't this way but my brain is protecting itself or something. that's what i'm told anyways.

i miss quotev i practically lived there. most of my system THRIVED there, with the RP groups we could pretend to be in character and then just be ourselves, people would address us as ourselves and it was so affirming and it felt amazing to finally exist and matter to someone. we have an alter who is basically all digital, so we often see ourselves like a little sprite traveling through 0s and 1s and pixels out into the wide web !! it's fun but sometimes very lonely.

Theon walks around barefoot and drugged out of his mind bc he’s just like that. Euron is the weird uncle that tried to bring home an alligator as a pet. Multiple times.

Swamp people Reeds (Louisiana edition). The better swamp people sorry ab it. They live way down south in a rickety old house on the river and they have about three neighbors within a ten mile radius. Very mysterious and isolated but if anyone is sick Meera will be at your doorstep with all her grandma’s weird remedies to make you feel better (and they always work). Jojen is the kid that the local church thinks needs an exorcism. Howland is the strange neighbor you go to if you want all your problems to go away without question

West Virginia Appalachian Baratheons. A working class family with a mining history. Everyone is too stubborn to move away from their ancestral home. Robert makes and sells moonshine out in the backyard. Renly is the smoothest talking, most charming and popular motherfucker in town. All the old ladies and moms love him. Stannis left to go to college and immediately got rid of his accent when he moved, and he hates going back to visit, even when Shireen begs him. Willas is studying to take over the family business (nobody even really knows what it is, they own like everything in town). Garlan and Loras are both D1 football players who are going straight to the NFL. Margaery is a pageant queen/cheerleader/sorority girl who definitely had a society debut.

South Texas Martells. They have a big ass cattle ranch near the mountains. Doran is a big name in state government, he has billboards up all over the highway for his re-election campaign. Oberyn lives off the family money with no real job and likes to travel out of the country, but does philanthropy every now and then to boost his reputation. Elaria is a hot topic of conversation for all the ladies, because she’s Oberyns middle class mistress who had kids out of wedlock. And the Sand Snakes are definitely all accomplished horseback riders, Oberyn taught them on the ranch himself, to everyone else’s discomfort.

My personal theory about Maximus is that he’s not secretly working for the federation or anything, the federation just needed him to either 1: cause unrest and distrust among the order group since he was one of the forming members of it 2: they needed to test a small experiment with him, 3 he could’ve also became a sleeper agent but I doubt it.

I don’t think the code attacks people who are with the federation, I think it attacks people because the federation needs them for something or to take them in private, making the code seem worse and more threatening to the residents just helps the cause since it takes the heat off the federation a little bit.

anyways yeah i absolutely agree with ur first thing, bc of how trumps death affected max and the way he’s been so so focused on finding answers, founding the ordo theoritas, and basically constantly trying to figure out the federation, there’s basically no way he would ever be a part of the federation willingly imo. unlike fit, who seemed to stay more neutral, which makes sense if he was planning on being a traitor for a different organization, and he had to have been planning that for a while, if not since the start, which makes his neutrality seem like a planned move.

however, max is extremely paranoid and gets tunnel vision when it comes to the federation, which makes it extremely easy to manipulate him if u know what ur doing. and look, i hate to have to take the ass camera seriously, especially bc the ass camera thing was like improv that they came up with on the spot, so if you’ll excuse me for being meta for a sec, there’s no way the people who put together the story could’ve planned for that or factored it into the lore. BUT hehe butt implanting some kind of monitoring device into someone does seem like a classic federation move, even though i think it’s main goal was to gather info, and the sowing of dissent was kind of a secondary bonus

and as for the code thing, that’s def an interesting point. i like the idea that the code is a red herring, something planted by the federation to serve its goals. and i think that would be interesting if the codes real goal is to give the players an enemy to unite against, to make them feel like theyre doing something and to take the heat off of the federation for a sec. bc most players seem to agree that between the feds and the code, the feds are the lower priority threat, the lesser of two evils. bc the feds don’t resort to violence as much as the code, and their agents can be reasoned with, in a way, even tho that reasoning and logic seems pretty warped to anyone with a functioning understanding of how emotions work. the code, on the other hand, just shows up, attacks, and leaves, there’s no way to talk to them or try to negotiate, bc you’ll just get killed if you try. so yeah def a possibility

but that’s the thing about the codes. when u theorize u go off of the info that u can gain from the source material, things that are explicitly stated, things that are implied, and things that u can extrapolate based on the data u have and logical thinking. the problem with codes is that they’ve given me basically nothing to work with. all i know is that they attack without mercy, they have some form of admin powers, allowing them to fly and summon mobs, they target the eggs for some reason, and the federation won’t admit they exist. that’s basically it. which means that all of my thoughts on them is just baseless speculation. when i theorize about them, it’s mostly just me speculating on a direction i think the code storyline could possibly go in and how it might affect the storyline, but i have nothing to back that up.

anyways that was basically a long winded way to say, i don’t fuckin know what’s going on with the codes at all but it’s a fun thing to think about and i think ur idea is def plausible and would have interesting implications

I’m gendercrit but holy hell I’m still shocked at how bad those comments were. I love how so many of the negative ones are like “as a polyace as a trans gay guy as an asexual,” go on to insist that PIV can be gay, when they have absolutely zero stake or should have any opinion on homosexuality at all. I’m also sure the author is probably gay or lesbian and they jumped on them for this - chastising them for being a bad gay basically, a bigot a terrible person, because having an opinion that’s absolutely 100% correct and based in the reality of sex and calling out homophobia is a sure fire way to get yourself crucified by people who appropriate shit. These people are batshit insane and hate gay people. Author should do an updated essay where they’re even more upfront and angry tbh especially since this GO attitude of ‘they’re not human they can mix match sex and still be gay” has literally spread to other fandoms with human gay couples and so where’s this excuse now? They don’t respect gay characters and they def don’t understand or share any common goals with actual gay ppl

The worst thing about those people acting like they have any say on topics about homosexuality, is that you can’t tell them otherwise without being told you’re some sort of phobic!! When it comes to all their made up issues, they have no problem saying “only ace people get an opinion!” But when it comes to actual real issues regarding homosexuals, suddenly it’s open to everyone. I wonder if it has to do with the way they’ve hijacked the word gay to no longer mean homosexual, but to instead mean “anyone who wants to call themselves gay to feel special”. As in, they think they’re gay because they want multiple partners, so they get a say in anything regarding gay people.

Point of that little rant is to say, it is so damn frustrating to see a bunch of non-homosexuals acting like their opinion holds the same weight as homosexuals when it comes to discussing our sexuality…and knowing that their ideology enables them so much that you can’t say anything about it, they’ll just tune you out. It’s frustrating to know that I can give my opinion as a homosexual, only to be overruled by a straight woman calling herself an “aromantic trans nonbinary man” who thinks her fake identities give her more say than me.

And yes, the backlash to the essay absolutely has to do with the idea of a (presumed) homosexual stepping out of line. These people see gays as pawns and objects they own, and hate to see us having our own voice that opposes theirs. Because they think they’re entitled to our agreement and compliance.

They’re also accustomed to being in a community where everyone has the same opinions, everyone claims they’re gay, and everyone validates them. So I think it’s an absolute shock to them when somebody they assume would be in this same boat, has a mind of their own. It’s like, “what? You’re supposed to be Mindless Genderist #200, especially because you’re gay! How could you betray our community like this?”

If the author is still around here and reading this, please please please write another essay, I will eat it up. The first one did a really good job of being respectful and not heavy-handed on the gender critical aspect, which I think is the reason it resonated with me. If it was explicitly a “terf” essay, all my critical thinking would’ve been shut down because Terf Bad. But because it was just laying out points with no belief system attached, I was able to go into it just as a homosexual and find my agreement that way, not swayed by any pressures to believe a certain ideology. But it would be great to read another one that is more firm and angry, because lord knows it would be more than justified.

And I’ve noticed that too, that the “they’re not human, so they can’t be gay” excuse has spread to other fandoms. It’ll just take different forms depending on what’s available in the media’s universe. So for example, in a universe with magic, the fandom will use the magic system as an excuse for why the characters can’t possibly be gay (but they can be anything else). In a universe without magic, it’ll be something like “well, these characters are so deep and complex, so it’s not good to limit them to a label like gay (but they can be anything else)”.

It’s very clear to me that it’s not actually about trying to find interesting and complex ways of worldbuilding like these fandoms claim. Because if that was the case, why would homosexuality need to be ruled out? Wouldn’t it be interesting to discuss how this very real and important experience fits in with the universe in question? Instead, this is clearly about how fandom has always been homophobic, and they’ve finally found an acceptable excuse for it. Why else would the focus constantly be on explaining why characters can’t possibly be gay?

me and ruby had a long talk last night abt making woman ocs and i think im more prepared mentally to grasp how to start making more women

i thought about how i have over 1.2k ocs (real) and 90% of them are guys in some way (either cis or trans/nonbinary) and how All of my stories are headed by guys (even the magical girl story i have is mc'd by a dude. like what even) and i was just like. damn. i really fucking need more girls LOL

the reason Why ive made ocs like that for so long though is bc ive been projecting my gender and gender envy and aesthetic attraction onto them. for a long time ive identified as transmasc, and i reflected that in my ocs. but now im coming to a point where i no longer identify as transmasc and am exploring a more feminine aspect of my identity, and i want to break free from my habit of making Only Dudes and maybe add a little more representation to my oc horde!

my aesthetic attraction to men was a big problem w all this tbh, i love the shape and Look of masculinity, but im starting to think that i love that in women too? i designed two girls recently and they were super masc and i was like [eyes emoji] at them so hard lol. i think i might just like masc women lmfao. but yeah

another problem i need to work on and break out of is how like..because there arent a lot of well-written, interesting woman characters out there, i havent rly been exposed to a lot of them, and my "image" of a woman character is very "for the male gaze" still. like stereotypical skinny girl with curves and big bahonkas. while that is what some women look like, yes, its definitely still a design that caters to the straight guy and id like to move away from that. an anon once told me that ppl can look like anything and i want to implement that into my designs--i thought i was already doing this but apparently i had been trained to see women a certain way physically and i wasnt doing that philosophy justice at all!

so here's where im gonna start. im gonna take the personalities of guy characters i rly like and just slap them onto a woman. not a genderbend, no, but like..this personality, as a woman. yknow? i think i'll be able to better make women that way!
