“That’s good to know,” Steve says. “Especially since, you know. Dustin’s got that big decision to make. Might change some things.”
Suzie doesn’t say anything. But he can almost picture that birdlike look on her face, the little tilt of her head. Maybe the way she purses her lips when she wants you to get to the point, a face that Steve seems to be on the receiving end on more than anyone else.
“We haven’t actually talked about it, you and me,” Steve says. “What you, you know. Think about it. The whole offer.”
“And I’m interested in knowing what you think about it, too,” she says evenly. “I have an idea from Dustin, but I’d rather hear it from you.”
“Ditto,” Steve says. And the idea comes together, in as much time as it takes to wrap the store’s phone cord around one finger. “I can’t talk about it here obviously, but maybe– in person?”
“Like, come to Chicago?” Suzie asks, though she doesn’t sound all that surprised by the idea.
“Yeah,” he says, on firm ground now. The imagined sound of horns or trumpets or whatever at his back. “This is big, what’s happening here. I think we need to all talk about it together. As a team.”
“Talk about it,” Suzie says slowly. “Or talk Dustin out of it?”
Steve takes a deep breath. His finely honed Talking to Women sixth sense is blaring at him to tread very carefully. “I’d never tell you what to do, or what to tell him,” he says. “Like I said, I don’t even know how you feel about it. But I think we should all talk it out. Get on the same page.”
“Yeah, I’m guessing there hasn’t been a lot of that going on over there,” she says dryly, and Steve gives himself a quiet little fist pump of triumph at having apparently given up some kind of right answer. “Much as I hate to be the one who has to come in and clean up your emotional communication hangups, I do happen to agree with you– this is something we should all talk about, together. I’ve been thinking the same thing.”
“Okay,” Steve says, grinning. “Okay, great. I’ll let Dustin know, and–”
“Steve,” she cuts him off. “I mean it. I haven’t decided yet, how I feel about this whole thing. What I think it could mean for us. For all of us– Dustin, you, and for me. That’s part of why I want to come. I need some clarity. And once I get it, you might not like it.”
“I trust you, Suzie,” Steve says. “You’re our eye in the sky, sweetheart. You always know what’s what, and what to do about it.”
“I’m just keeping an open mind,” Suzie says. Trying for stern, but he can hear the smile in her voice. “And Steve– I really think you should try and do the same. I know it’s hard, and– and how it happened, with Eddie and everything. I get reacting the way you have.”
“What way I have?” Steve asks, suddenly a little annoyed.
“But just try and keep an open mind, is all I’m saying,” she says smoothly. “Until I can come and knock both of your heads together, get some sense into them.”
“Okay,” Steve says, a little uneasily. Not sure if this cavalry call is going exactly the way he had hoped it would.
“Okay,” she says firmly. “I’ll give you a call from the road, let you know when I’m getting in.”
“Sounds good, thanks Suzie,” Steve says, and they hang up.
Frowning a little, he turns away from the phone. To find two teenagers looking at him with open curiosity.
“Did that have something to do with Eddie?” Lilith asks.
Fidel looks sharply at her. “Who’s Eddie?” he asks, a little suspicious.
“PB’s friend,” Lilith says, tucking her long black hair behind one ear. “Cool, super hot, dressed all in black. Probably unavailable,” she finishes with a sigh.
“Unavailable?” Steve asks, deciding to leave super hot alone. Fidel fidgets with the hem of his beloved Bulls jersey.
Lilith sees the motion and probably leaps immediately to the right conclusion, because teenaged girls are evil and powerful. “Probably unavailable to me,” she amends, smiling a little bit as Fidel catches her eye, and abruptly stops messing with his shirt, turning to walk back to the other end of the shop.
“Well yes,” Steve says nastily. “He is, since you’re an infant.”
Lilith scowls at him. “Technically, I’m your manager.”
“Technically, you need my help to reach above the third shelf,” Steve shoots back.
Lilith’s scowl turns murderous, and she whirls towards the record player. Whips the needle off the Eve 6, and rummages under the player for an album. “My turn,” she says. “We’ve listened to enough of your boring, basic Peanut Butter bullshit today.”
Suddenly assaulted by the Smashing Pumpkins, and a sharp uptick in the degree of teen angst surrounding him on all sides, Steve’s headache reasserts itself with a vengeance. And he is, abruptly, so tired of everyone in his life being so fucking stupid.
Himself included.

{fancy suits from dad}
Ships: Peter Stark & Tony Stark, Pepper Pots/Tony Stark
Warnings: swearing, just fluff otherwise :)

Here’s the thing, Peter Parker grew up in Stark Tower, which eventually became Avengers Tower of course. So whilst his whole class was buzzing about their field trip, all he could think was, “shit, shit shit.” His dad was going to embarrass the hell out of him. His Aunts and Uncles were going to endlessly tease him.
So, no Peter was not looking forward to the field trip. Not in the slightest. He still wanted to go, though. He knew that the rumors of his internship being fake were started by Flash, the annoying teen. He also knew that Flash had not once said his real name, preferring the name Penis Parker. It didn’t bother him as much as it used to. Also since highschool began, Flash had calmed down with his bullying. Well, maybe Flash hadn’t calmed down and high school was just bigger and he had thicker skin. And a new support system with plenty of people to go to.
Peter had been adopted by the Starks when he was a mere ten years old. At first, he was terrible at receiving any gifts or even too much attention. Slowly but surely, he got more and more used to it. Now, he wouldn’t not know what to do if any of that was taken away. Plus, he really did find a liking for expensive suits, however shallow. He looked good in them, and his father always insisted on buying him more and more. Tony would always find an excuse to spoil the kid a little more, however much Pepper tried to stop him.
“Peter, please see me after class regarding an urgent matter.”
Brough out of his thoughts, Peter swiftly nodded his head.
He looked at the board to see the words from before still written on them, “Field Trip to Stark Industries!” It might as well have said, “Dig Peter Stark’s Grave!”
“So, let’s get started with today’s lesson, graphing imaginary numbers on the complex plane!” He’d done this one a while back with his father. Something about not only learning applicable science and engineering. Peter tapped his glass, and the episode of Arrow he’d been watching on the car ride over began playing. He’d be ever grateful for his father’s gift of EDITH to him. Pepper had tried to ban him from wearing them to school, but hastily gave up when Peter pulled the spiderman danger card.
“Alright, class dismissed. Please remember to do this homework pages 11-18 on this unit’s homework handout.”
Peter, forgetting his teacher's previous request, was very glad to be on his way home. He was one foot out of the door when the teacher called his name. Now, his day had gone pretty well up to that point. Bucky made pancakes for breakfast, which were delicious. There was wayyy less traffic on the way to school. He’d aced an essay and a couple of quizzes, and then he even participated in PE effectively. But alas, all good things had to come to an end.
“Mr. Parker? The discussion.”
“Right,” Peter thought, joining the teacher at his desk.
“Peter, you are truly a great kid. I know you’ve been through a lot recently and in your life, but it is no excuse to make up an internship. We both know that it is not real. Now, acknowledging that you have a bright future, the administration and I have come forward with an offer. If you agree to write an apology, expressing that you understand what you did was wrong and immoral, you will both be allowed to come on the trip and no punishment will be given to you. If you choose to not take this opportunity, you will be banned from the trip and will be chastised.
Peter just stood there, not really comprehending. Apparently Flash’s little rumors were a lot bigger than he anticipated.
“I-i-I’m not lying,” was all he could manage. He had filed all the right paperwork and proved his internship.
“I’m sorry to hear that you will not come forward with the truth. You have up until the day before the trip to hand in the letter if you change your mind. Goodbye Peter.”
Peter just let his legs take him out of the classroom, then out of the school, and then to the road, a couple blocks away, where his dad picks him up from.
“Hello mini-me.”
“Hey,” Peter said, jumping into the passenger seat.
“‘Hi Dad, thanks so much for taking time out of your busy schedule to pick me up each and every day. Sick new car by the way! I’d love to drive it sometime!”
Peter just rolled his eyes with a smile, “Car looks great dad. McLarren’s are superior yet.”
“Ungrateful, so so ungrateful. What’s got you in a mood then?”
“Nothin,” Peter said, pulling out his phone.
“Oh come on, tell me. Tell me or I’ll call Ted.”
“Ned, Dad. We’ve been friends for like three years.”
“Not the point.”
“Just something at school.”
“Wow how very descriptive. You know I’m trying to do the whole feelings thing here, and you should appreciate that coming from my emotionally stunted self.”
“You’re so dramatic. Basically we’re having a field trip to your tower, and I’m not allowed to go because the teacher doesn’t think I really have an “internship.” Which, to be fair I don’t but that’s on you and not me.”
“Nah na na. I offered you an internship, and you said I’d be bored.”
“It would be. Doing a project for your company under strict supervision of some person would be sucky. I mean I can do anything I want from the lab you built me.”
“I know, but remember technically you are my intern. Remember we did that whole personal intern bullshit for the school.”
“Oh right. Is that why you keep harassing me about submitting all my completed projects.”
“No, that’s all your mother. Something about not wanting a lawsuit over a fake internship.”
“Make sense. She tends to be a lot smarter than you.”
“Ah, I feel so attacked. The abuse I suffer.”
“You’re terrible.”
“I am internally crying, kid. Sobbing.”
“Shut up,” we laughed.
“Who’s home?”
“You saw Buck and Sam this morning. Nat and Steve came back from their mission this afternoon. Thor and Loki are back for dinner tonight.. Strange might be coming round, not sure though. Cliff and the family aren’t back for at least a couple weeks. Oh and Bruce is wholed up in his lab as usual.”
“Shit. Everyone staying till the end of the week.”
“Yeah, oh the field trip. You’re screwed. You should have not told me.”
“Ughhhhh!!!”
“I love your life Petey.”
Peter walked into the kitchen and saw Steve reading a newspaper.
“Uncle Steve! Your back!” he smiled, dropping his bag off near the sofa. Steve got up to give the smaller boy a hug.
“Yep. Mission completed.”
“Nice. Can you tell me about it?”
“Yeah, it was nothing too interesting. We just needed some more intel into a terrorist organization stationed in the US. Most of the mission was recon. The next steps are being taken in a couple weeks.”
“Good to know there’s an active terrorist organization out there,” Peter said lightly.
Steve just smiled, not quite understanding the modern humor.
“Where is everyone else?” he said, realizing the living room was not in it’s normal chaotic state that he’d come to love. The chaos was his favorite reminder that he had so many people. He liked having lots of people, even after all this time.
“Nat and Buck are training, they invited you to join if you want. Bruce is in his lab, and dont worry he slept and ate last night. Not sure about the rest.”
“Right, thanks. I think I’m going to go train.”
Before he knew it, it was Friday morning, and his school was coming to his home. He was going to try very hard to ignore them. To do so, he asked his mum to let him sit in on some meetings. He had an easy in to the R&D and mechanical side of the company via the other interns. He was actually planning on hanging out with some of the “other” interns later that day. They were always happy to let Pete in on their projects and let him give them a hand. But he was always interested in getting more detail about the business side of the company, and he liked to get a window into it. Pepper was always happy to show her son the ropes. I mean he was heir to the company after all, even if he didn’t know yet.
He asked his mum to only schedule meetings after 12 as he requested a sleep in. Pepper was always happy when Peter slept as he was a little too much like his father. So, he woke bright and early at 11:00 o’clock.
After a scroll through his phone and a quick shower, he was ready to pull on his far too expensive Brunellio’s custom suit. It was one of his favorites. His father had got it custom made when he was in Italy, and told him he simply could not resist getting one for the kid. Pepper just smiled.
He had a large breakfast (enhanced metabolism) and headed towards the 34th floor where his first meeting was located. He’d been shadowing his mum for almost a year now whenever it was convenient, so he had the rointine down. He was almost sure he could take over a few of her meetings.
“Hi honey,” Pepper said, giving the boy a quick kiss on the cheek on the way to her own chair beside him. Peter blushed before resuming his professional posture and facial expression.
“Good morning everyone, as you can see Peter will be joining us today. I want to talk about some of the services we provide for our employees and their feedback. I’m aware we have a large portion to talk about so Kendra please take it away on that front.”
The first meeting went smoothly as planned. It was a discussion on the progress of the internal services, aka the IT department. Peter hadn’t learned much about their IT department, so it was good to listen in to. Pre these meetings, he, of course, does research into the background stuff, so he’s not completely lost. Pepper’s assistant usually provides him with a packet of info about the Stark Industries side of things. He is also given a list of key words and concepts he might want to make sure he understands. The research is fun for him, it makes him feel all professional.
Usually he spoke during the meetings, asking a couple questions and suggesting some ideas, but for this one he just learned and took in. The next meeting, however, was very much so his field. He’d spoken a lot with advertising, becoming very interested in the data analysis behind it. He even took a stats class so he could keep up. In that one he asked questions Pepper was on the verge of asking twice. He also contributed to the analysis of data once. Pepper usually liked him to participate as it was good for him, but he always felt bad suggesting stuff to the senior adults. He usually spoke to his mum or dad about projects for the company, preferring that.
They hung back in the room of the second meeting.
“Good job in this one Pete. Took two questions right off my tongue.”
“Thanks ma,” he said, always appreciating some approval.
“That’s all I’ve got for you today, kid. Rest of the stuff is, ya know.”
“Course. Thanks for these two. It was good to learn about internal affairs a bit more. Have a gap of knowledge there.”
“Yeah. Was that the first time meeting our CIT?”
“I believe so.”
“Well, next time we have a broader IA meeting, I’ll pull you outta school,” Pepper suggested.
“Really? That’d be epic.”
“Course, hun. Jarvis, sort that out please.”
“Of course Mrs. Potts.”
“Thanks J,” Peter yelled.
“Anytime mini-boss. No need to disturb the entire floor.”
“Are AI supposed to be so snarky?”
“Dad programmed it, what else would it be?”
“Valid point.”
“Right, got to run. See you later.”
“Bye, love you mum!”
“Love you too, Pete.”
“Jarvis, could you send me the tour plan for the visiting tour today?”
“Absolutely, sir. They’re on your phone now.”
“Thanks J.”
Looking at the plans Peter smiled. He had successfully avoided them the entire day. It said they were supposed to head back to school at 2:30, and it was about to be three. Smile on his face, he trotted down to the lobby to grab a coffee before going to meet Loki at the arcade. Don’t judge them, it was their thing. Taking the private lift down, and then walking straight to the coffee stand and ordering.
“Mr. Parker!” he heard the angry voice of his teacher, “How dare you show up here aft-”
Shit. shit. Shit.
“Edith, call dad, and tell him it’s urgent in the lobby.”
“Of course Peter.”
“Peter, are you listening to me! You are going to face extreme consequences for this.”
“Your coffee,” the man said, not realizing it was Peter, level ten personal of the tower, that was being yelled at.
“Thanks.”
“How dare you get coffee! In this building! Security!”
Tony arrived spotting his son instantly.
“Kid this best be impor- I see.”
“Hey Mr. Stark,” Peter said weakly.
“Mr. Harrington is it? Please stop harassing my intern.”
“H-he, he is y-your intern?”
“Yes. My favorite. Please exit the building and never question him again. You will be hearing from me.”
Let’s just say, Monday was an interesting day. At least Flash backed off, he was definitely an intern at SI, and no one embarrassed him on the trip.

Song- I Like It -- We The Kings Spotify/Youtube
Words- 3,408
The way you’d met Lin had been perfectly imperfect.
You were laying out on the sidewalk outside your school’s front door. It felt nice to just soak up the sun’s rays for a few minutes. Freshman year was stressful, and you needed a moment away from people. No one was bullying you, yet, but it was hard to talk to new people without constantly feeling like you were making a damn fool of yourself.
You just wanted to think for a bit, but then a sharp pain shot through your brain, rendering you incapable of thinking of anything. You ears started to ring, and you sat up groggily.
“Oh...oh my god!” You heard a voice. “Holy shit, I mean-fuck. Are-are you okay? Oh my god, I killed you.”
You squinted your eyes open. Suddenly, the sun wasn’t comforting and warm anymore. It was too bright and made you nauseous.  A blurry face appeared in front of you. You saw one hand-like shape reaching toward you.
Your vision started to clear, and you saw a pair of concerned brown eyes staring at you. You blinked, and the face attached to them came in focus. “I’m so fucking sorry.” The stranger's hands were fluttering around your head lightly. He was a lanky guy with a head full of bushy dark brown hair.
“What happened?” you asked. Your voice didn’t sound like your own.
“I didn’t see you laying in front of the door, so when I opened it, it hit your head pretty hard.” The man pulled his hand away and winced. “Shit. I think you’re bleeding. Can you stand?”
The nausea in your stomach said no, but you were tougher than that. “Yeah, I think so.”  Mr. Soft Brown Eyes nodded and grabbed one of your hands. He braced his other arm against your back and pulled you up. The second you were up, you keeled over and vomited. To your surprise, Mr. Brown Eyes didn’t back away disgusted. He held onto you and made sure you didn’t fall over. Your knees gave out so your hero tightened his grip on you.
“Okay. Okay, you’re alright.” You grabbed onto his bicep trying to balance yourself. “Here. It’s clean I promise.” He handed you a tissue that he pulled from his pocket. You quickly wiped your mouth with it. Part of you was embarrassed that you had just thrown up in front of a cute boy, but you were so queasy you couldn’t bring yourself to care. Mr. Brown Eyes looked down at his watch. “My friend has a car and an off period right now. We’ll take you to the hospital.” He pulled a phone with a long antenna out and started dialing. You couldn’t say anything, so you leaned into him for support and closed your eyes.
You heard the man say something about meeting him by the car and then he hung up. “Hey,” he said gently, “Try to keep your eyes open.” You slowly pulled your eyes open. It felt like there were weights hanging off your eyelashes, and the sun was so bright. Mr. Brown Eyes pulled another tissue out of his pocket, and you wondered how many this guy kept around. He must have seen your confusion because he gave you a lopsided smile and said,” It always good to be prepared.”
You nodded, but then motion made you feel dizzy so you quickly leaned against him again.
“Is it alright if I carry you?” your stranger asked.
“Yeah,” you replied simply.
“Okay.” He pressed the tissue against your head. “Hold that there if you can,” he commanded. You placed your palm over his hand which stalled for a moment before slipping out from underneath you. He bent slightly, picking you up princess-style. You felt sick at the motion, but once you were safe in his arms, your stomach settled a bit.
“I’m gonna ask you questions like they do in the movies, alright?” He started to walk forward.
You laughed ever-so-slightly. “Okay.”
“What’s your full name?”
“Y/N Y/L/N,” you replied.
“Cool. I’m Lin,” he added. “What year is it?”
“1995.”
“Where are we right now?”
“Manhattan.”
“Who’s the president?”
“Bill Clinton,” you said in a fake Southern accent.
Lin laughed and nodded, “Congrats, you passed. Alright, I’m gonna set you down now. You can lean against the car if you need. Steve should be here soon.” Lin set you gently on your feet. He checked your wound before meeting your eyes. “How are you feeling?”
“Nauseous, dizzy, like I want to take a fucking nap.” Laughter bubbled out of Lin, and you found yourself smiling too. “Sorry.”
“No, it’s fine. Swear all you want; I don’t fucking care.”
Another teenage boy came jogging up to you and Lin. “Hi,” he said, slightly out of breath. He was about as tall as Lin but not quite as thin. His hair and skin were both much lighter than Lin’s. “I’m assuming this is for you.” He handed you an ice pack. You smiled gratefully and pressed it against your head.
“Okay let’s go, Steve,” Lin said nervously. You were absolutely certain that he was more nervous about your state than you were. Steve ran around to the driver side and unlocked his car. Once he could, Lin opened the backseat door and helped you sit in the middle. He climbed in next to you.
“Seat belts?” Steve asked from the front seat.
“Oh my god, will you just drive?” Lin said impatiently.
Steve paused for a moment before clearing his throat. “Seat belts?” he said again. Lin groaned dramatically and rolled his eyes, but you were giggling quietly. Lin helped you buckle in and then did the same to himself. “Thank you, sir.” Steve smiled at you two through the rear view mirror and started his car.
“Here let me.” Lin grabbed the ice pack from you. He wrapped his arm around your shoulder and bent his elbow so he could press the cool bag against your head. You laid your head on his chest and closed your eyes. “Just make sure you don’t fall asleep,” he whispered.
“Mhm,” you answered half-heartedly. Lin chuckled, and you felt it vibrate through his chest. Maybe it was the head trauma, or the blood loss even, but you felt very calm in Lin’s arms.
Steve and Lin’s hilarious banter kept you distracted in the waiting room of the Urgent Care section, and before you knew it, your name was being called by the attendant. Lin stood up with you. “Can I go with her?” he asked her.
“Are you family or a guardian?”  Lin shook his head no. “Then I’m sorry, dear, but you can’t.”
“I don’t mind,” you interjected quickly.
The nurse gave you a sad look. “Sorry, dear. If you’re not eighteen, it’s not your call to make.”
You looked down. “Oh, okay.”
“I’ll be waiting out here when you’re done,” Lin said with a comforting smile.
“Okay.” You grabbed his hand and gave it a squeeze before turning away. The nurse, whose name you learned was Jackie, put her hand around your shoulder and guided you into a room where she started to take your temperature and blood pressure.
“Have you called your parents yet?”
“No...” you said sheepishly. That probably should have been the first thing you did.
Jackie slid a paper and pen to you while the arm cuff loosened. “How about you write their number down while I enter all this into the database, and then you can tell me how this happened.” You grabbed the pen and scribbled the number down.
You explained what had happened and Nurse Jackie chuckled. “Aw, what a sweet boy,” she commented.
“Yeah,” you agreed, smiling slightly.
“Well Y/N, looking at your cut, you’ll probably need stitches. We should also check for a concussion after that, but for now, we can move you into a room to make a little more comfortable.”
“I’d like that.”
Jackie had you follow her through a few hallways to an empty hospital room. “I can give you some nausea pills now, or if we wait for your parents, I can give it to you through an IV.”
Your stomach lurched at the thought of ingesting anything. “I think I’ll just wait for my parents.”
Jackie nodded and told you that a doctor would come in soon so look at your cut. You were alone in the room for almost ten minutes, bored out of your cracked skull, before there was a knock on the door. Lin stepped into the room.
Your face brightened at the sight of him. “Hi!”
“Hey, they said I could come back here now. Steve’s back at school. How are you?” He walked to one side of the bed you were relaxing on.
“Fine. I need stitches, and I probably have a concussion, according to the nurse. Once my parents get here, I’ll have some nausea medication.”
“I’m so sorry, Y/N,” he said seriously.
“Don’t worry about it! It’s not your fault I decided to lay down in front of a door like an idiot.” You grabbed his forearm to reassure him. Lin met your eyes a smiled.
There was knock on the door, and you quickly pulled your hand away. “Guess who’s here, Y/N?” Jackie walked into the room, followed closely by your parents. Your mom came to your side and put a hand on your shoulder gently.
“I’m so sorry,” Lin started right away, “This is totally my fault.”
“No. You shut up.” You pointed at him before turning toward your parents. “It’s not his fault. This is Lin. He’s the one who got me to the hospital so quickly.”
“Thank you for that.” Your dad stuck his hand out and shook Lin’s
Jackie explained the situation to your parents while your dad filled out some insurance paperwork. Lin stood next to you the whole time, listening intently to the nurse. You watched him without his knowledge. His oversized T-shirt made him look thin, but he’d carried you across half the campus so you knew he must have some muscle under there. Those brown eyes were so soft and kind, and when they flickered to you he smiled.
The six stitches weren’t terribly painful, and the medication settled your stomach, but you did have a very serious concussion. That meant two weeks of brain rest, maybe more if your condition wasn’t improving. Lin felt terrible because that meant you’d miss homecoming, your first homecoming. You kept insisting that it wasn’t his fault, but he still felt guilty.
Brain rest was awful. No TV or computer, no reading, no writing, no homework. Your entertainment options were watching paint dry or watching grass grow, except you weren’t even allowed to go outside if the sun was too bright.
Your days were incredibly boring, except for when Lin came over after school. Sometimes Steve would show up too, but most of the time it was just you and Lin. He would tell you stories about what you missed at school, and when he ran out of fresh drama, he would make stories up just to keep you entertained.
You got to know Lin extremely well during that time, well enough to develop a crush. You’d never admit that to him at the time, though. It was nice to know that you’d have at least one friend when you went back to school, even if you knew he’d only ever be a friend.
You were pondering these thoughts late one Saturday night. It was the day of homecoming, and you needed anything to distract you from the thought of Lin dancing with other girls.  He hadn’t mentioned anyone else in your past two weeks of friendship, but you were convinced you’d go back to school to find out that every freshman girl had danced on him and he’d found a girlfriend.
You groaned angrily and shoved your pillow against your face. Having a crush was bad enough on its own, but having a crush a not being allowed to distract yourself with anything? Outright torture. You were kicking yourself for letting Lin and his soft brown eyes work their way into your heart.
There was a knock on the door, but you didn’t move to answer it. You were too busy wallowing in self-pity.
“Y/N!” your mother called to your from the front door. “Someone’s here for you!” You rolled your eyes and got out of bed. As you approached the door, a familiar gangly figure came into focus.
“Lin? What are you doing here?” It was dark outside so the light from your house seemed to make his skin glow.
Lin swung an arm out behind him silently. You brow creased, and you stepped outside. Gathered on your front lawn was a small group of students from your school. There were about ten or twelve, some you didn’t even recognize. All of them were wearing suits or dresses.
“I felt so bad that you had to miss homecoming because of me,” You rolled your eyes, but Lin just barreled forward with his speech,”So I decided to bring you your own homecoming. No bright flashing lights, no loud music, just Steve’s mixtape and some calm dancing. A concussion friendly homecoming in your front yard.”
Steve stepped forward and smiled at you, clapping Lin on the back. “Lin here could barely keep his mouth shut because he was so excited, but I told him it had to be a surprise.”
You looked at Lin again. He had a goofy grin on his face, and you noticed his suit was just slightly too big for him. It was adorable.
“I’m not really dressed for this.” You gestured to your flannel pants and faded summer camp T-shirt. “I’ll just go change quick.”
“Wait!” Lin said quickly. He grabbed your wrist and turned you back around to face him. “Sorry!” He loosened his grip quickly. “I just...” Lin looked down sheepishly as he spoke,”I’ve waited almost two weeks for this. Please, don’t make me wait any longer.”
You bit your lip and nodded. Lin clapped excitedly and, to your surprise, ran away from you. He disappeared around the corner of your house. Within seconds, you were flooded with soft yellow light, tame enough that it didn’t give you a headache. Lin came back into your view with a huge grin. All the other students were gazing up at the house and few trees that were covered in fairy lights.
“When did you do all this? I’ve been home this whole week!”
“Your mom helped me make sure you were distracted.”
She was still standing in the doorway. You turned to her with a look of shock. “Don’t stay out too late,” was all she said before she winked and closed the door. Steve walked over to a stool in your driveway and popped a cassette into the boom box that sat on top of it.
Lin was at your side again. He took both of your hands in his and pulled you slightly closer. “Do you like it?”
You gasped, “Do I like it? Lin, this is amazing! It’s the nicest thing anyone’s ever done for me. I love it.”
Lin bit his lip and stared at you with his big brown eyes, making it hard for your lungs to do their job. “I’m glad. Shall we dance?”
“Definitely.” Lin held his arm out and you hooked yours through it so he could escort you the few steps to where everyone had formed a dance circle.
“Now remember,” Steve said in a “fatherly” voice, “No strenuous activities. I made sure to put plenty of slow dance songs on here. You’ll be in good hands,” he said with a wink. Part of you didn’t want to think about the implications of what he said, but then Lin blushed and your heart exploded into schoolgirl crush mush. It was disgusting how much Lin affected you, you thought.
You danced for a bit, with Lin and Steve checking on your state every few minutes, making sure you didn’t have a headache and whatnot. You met a lot of kids from school who’d heard of you even though you’d never met them. Apparently, the story of Lin and your concussion had spread pretty quickly.
Eventually, one of Steve’s slow songs flooded your ears. You panicked and searched around. Steve had already locked around his girlfriend Abby. Everyone was already dancing with someone. Your heart sunk, but then you felt hands around your waist.
Lin turned you around to face him. Despite yourself, your jaw dropped slightly.
“Surprised to see me?” he joked.
“I thought for sure you would have a date or someone else to dance with.”
Lin chuckled quietly and pulled you closer. You wrapped your arms around his neck and started to sway with him. “Why would I bring a date to a dance I made for you?”
You shrugged and look at Lin’s feet. “I don’t know.”
“Besides, no one can pull off the PJ look like you.”
You laughed and hit him in the chest playfully. “Shut up.”
Lin pressed his forehead against yours smiling. “I’m really glad I met you, Y/N,” he whispered.
“I’m glad I met you too,” you whispered back. Your heart was beating so hard that you were sure he could feel it considering how close your bodies were. Lin took his right hand off your waist and cupped your cheek. It sent shivers down your spine. Twinkling lights were reflecting in his brown eyes which were flickering between both of yours.
“Would you be mad if I kissed you right now?”
Your breath caught in your throat at the sudden question. As your brain raced to catch up to your mouth, you rambled out a response. “Probably not.” You felt your entire body heat up and weight pressing into your chest.
Lin cracked a charming smile. “Is that a no?”
You shrugged and tilted your head upward so your lips were just a hair away from touching. No longer waiting for an answer, Lin kissed you gently, like he was still nervous about your reaction. You pushed back, taking his bottom lip between yours.
Lin pulled away and looked at you. You held your fingers up to your lips and giggled. “Mad?” he asked.
You shook your head. “Nope,” you managed to say before he pulled you in again.
Despite how nervous and awkward he was normally, Lin was surprisingly confident when it came to kissing. At least it seemed that way when he grabbed your hips and pulled you closer. Lin’s kiss left you breathless, and when he pulled away again, you kept your eyes closed for a moment to savor the phantom feeling of his lips on yours.
“Y/N,” You looked into the deep brown eyes you’d grown so fond of over the last two weeks. “Will you be my girlfriend?” Lin asked.
Your initial reaction was to laugh out of sheer excitement and nerves. Lin’s face fell, but you quickly corrected yourself, “Yes! Yes, I will be your girlfriend! Of course!”
Lin grinned bigger than you’d ever seen and pulled you into a tight hug. All the student you had come from school started clapping.
You never thought you’d get your first boyfriend wearing pajamas in your front yard after he’d given you stitches and a concussion, but there were a lot of things that you’d never thought would happen with Lin.
Things like sitting in an empty bathtub almost two years later clutching a positive pregnancy test while Lin sat on your bathroom floor with his head in his hands.
Highschool, right?

Love Has No Height Restrictions
Tumblr media
Series Note: This is gonna be a series where Bucky is dating a Tall!Reader and Steve is dating a Small!Reader. Two separate stories but named the same thing. I’ll be updating this when I can, I’m mainly focusing on Bucky x Tall!Reader more but I have a few ideas for Steve x Small!Reader.  Summary: You’re a new Avenger, Natasha’s friend. You’re taller than most people, most men, and that intimidates them usually. Only Bucky takes a shine to you and you don’t know how to act when he becomes shy and nervous around you; thinking he’s intimidated by your height and strength.  Pairings: Bucky Barnes x Reader Warnings: Swear words and height shaming (? is that a thing)
Got this idea from my friend and her boyfriend. When asked to be tagged for this you’re asking to be tagged for both Steve AND Bucky stories, please do not request to be tagged for one or the other, as I am tagging for the whole series which includes both their stories. - Rosalee
You had always been a little taller than your friends growing up. As a child it was never mentioned, simply a little growth spurt, to begin with, all your friends would catch up with you, eventually. Then when you hit your teens and puberty settled you had shot up. You were taller than most boys and all of your friends; it was no longer ‘normal’ or a ‘growth spurt’. The high school boys didn’t fancy or like girls taller than them and the girls were always laughing at you. You were lanky and skinny, just bumbling around the school corridors like a ‘sasquatch’ they’d call you.
When you finally left school and going to University you were already on the six-foot mark. You had moved away from your hometown and people seemed more welcoming to you, you didn’t get any boyfriends but you had friends, people that didn’t bully you for being tall. Having a boyfriend was the least of your troubles but you always knew it was because of your height. You stayed away from heels, despite the fact they make your legs look great and you tried not having friends below five-foot-five because smaller people make you look taller. The taller you are the worse you are; so you had grown up to believe.
Men had a difficult time wanting to be with you, especially if you were significantly taller than them. They were brought up to be tougher, taller and manly, with you as a girlfriend it defeats the purpose of all that. Women are meant to be petite, graceful and fragile, and you simply didn’t fit that mould, therefore, you were without love or romance. It shouldn’t bother you but it does.
The problem was you didn’t look like those runway models either, you aren’t skinny, you’re average with a toned stomach and wide waist (your mother would say “good baby-bearing hips”), you also had thick thighs from all the mountain climbing and training you do. You went from lanky to lean, some would say “built like an Amazon Warrior Princess”, not that many men found that attractive.
*
“You gonna stare at that target all day?” You were snapped out of your thoughts by Natasha; you turned and tilted your head down at your fiery haired friend. “What’s up?”
You had met Natasha a few years back when SHIELD was still kicking and you were just part of the Tactical Team for her and Steve Rogers. You became fast friends, which led to now; you being part of the Avengers, your skills and agility proving useful on most missions. You fought differently to Nat; she used precision and graceful, ballet, moves in her fighting style. You opted for brute force; you packed a mean swing and used your strength rather than quickness to fight, almost like Captain America but with a graceful twist to it.
“Nothing,” you tried to lie, “just got a few things on my mind.” You shrugged, it wasn’t the entire truth but it wasn’t a lie either, you could never lie to Nat.
Natasha cocked an eyebrow but smirked. “Bucky has been looking for you, by the way.” She grinned as you looked away from the target, once again, back to her with curiosity. “Wanted to train with you today,” she toyed lightly.
She knew you had a thing for Bucky, she knew before you even did, of course. Steve brought him in a few months ago, he was a little timid and shy but he eventually opened up, becoming more of a valuable member to the team. You gave him a little space because you didn’t want to intrude on his time or his healing process. Eventually, he started to come to the gym and would usually watch you train before just starting to spar with you.
You had an easy friendship with the man. Only he was a few inches shorter than you, you being six-foot-four and Bucky just hitting the six-foot mark, it was noticeable but he never made a comment on the fact he had to tilt his chin up or the fact your hands are nearly as big as his own.
“Thought he was training with Sam today?” You asked nonchalantly.
Natasha refrained from an eye roll and opted for crossing her arms instead. “He was meant to but decided he wanted to train with you instead,” she huffed, “you going to go?” You looked down at her, her only being five-foot-five.
“I suppose I have to,” you placed the gun down with a light thud and shrugging your leather jacket back on, you glanced at the sly red-head. “What are you planning, Romanoff?” You asked with suspicion.
“Nothing, Y/N, never you mind.” She toothily grinned as you left the shooting range in the Avengers Base.
You finally made it to the gym, already changing into workout clothes; a tank top and some leggings. You see both, Steve and Bucky, over by the weights each equally pushing each other to prove they’re stronger than the other. You chuckled at them before walking over and standing by their heads, resting hands on your hips and looking down.
“What’s the award title ‘Biggest Loser’?” You laughed as Steve chuckled and Bucky jumped at the suddenness of your voice.
You shocked Bucky so much that he lost his grip on the bar he held above his head, his metal hand slipping and the weight coming to drop on his neck, this would be how he died; embarrassing himself in front of you. Before that could happen you grabbed the cool metal bar, holding it up and stopping it from crashing down on his neck. From where he laid he could see your arms tense, your face in full concentration at keeping the almost double his own body weight off of him.
He slid out from underneath the bar, sitting on the bench and panting, he turned just in time to watch you readjust your grip on the metal bar and begin to use it. Dropping the metal bar to your thighs with your arms straight, little tension or strain, before you hoisted it back up to your neck and you puffed out air, you did this five times before setting the bar down with a bright grin.
“Such a show-off,” Steve snickered at you placing his own weights away before sitting up. “Thought you were in the shooting range for the afternoon?” Bucky watched as Steve stands up, he stands two inches shorter than you, crossing his arms the same time as you do; it’s uncanny how you both do that, you both work similarly on the field too.
“Natasha said that Barnes wanted to spar with me, so here I am.” You shrugged as Bucky frowned, you uncrossed your arms at his face, “you did, right?”
Bucky becomes nervous. His cheeks felt hot and so did his neck; you raised your eyebrows as Bucky began to mutter to himself, you glanced at Steve who was trying not to laugh at his best friend. It takes almost a full minute till Bucky actually replies to you.
“Uh-I’m fine,” he mumbles looking away from you and you bite your lip, nodding stiffly. Bucky stands up and walks away to different gym equipment away from you.
Steve sighed. “it’s fine, Steve. I get it; it happens a lot, more than I care to admit.”
“What happens?”
“Men feeling emasculated around me because I’m taller, stronger, than them. I get why Bucky is like that around me, it’s fine. He wants to feel in control and have power now, being around me doesn’t give him that” Steve grimaces at you for a second, you look far too chilled to be saying stuff like that, especially when he knows how Bucky really feels for you.
Steve shakes his head, “it’s not like that with Bucky.” You rolled your eyes and begin to walk away, “honestly, Y/N, Bucky likes you. He just isn’t very good with the whole… feelings and being open about them bit, yet.”
“Sure Steve,” you sarcastically retort. “I’ve been dealing with that type of behaviour since I was twelve, guys becoming twitchy and intimidated by me, like women can’t be tall or stronger than them. Don’t defend Bucky’s actions, it’s fine, he’s the only guy that I’ll let it slide, for now.” You turn swiftly, your H/C hair snapping behind you as you walk out of the gym.
Steve turns to his best friend who was on a treadmill, “Bucky, you’ve got to tell Y/N how you feel.”
“No way, she’ll laugh at me,” the man grumbles and refuses to meet his best friends stern glare. “Besides she doesn’t like me, I’m not exactly dating material, Steve.”
The blond rolls his eyes so hard it almost gives himself a headache. “Trust me; you need to speak with her. She thinks you’re intimidated by her because of the fact she’s taller than you,” Bucky momentarily stops running and almost falls off the machine, his eyebrows furrowed in question. “She’s had to deal with guys- ask her yourself, bro.” Steve snapped before walking off to the punching bags.
Bucky presses the button a few times before the treadmill slows to a stop; he grabs his towel and stalks out of the gym. Heading to your room, the full intention of finding out why you think he’s intimidated by you.
When he finally reaches your room takes a deep breath before knocking. It’s a few seconds before the door opens, you’re still in your gym wear, he can tell because he’s staring at the floor where he can see the Nike white trainers. Slowly he drags his eyes up to meet yours, chin tilting upwards due to standing a little closer to you than he intended. E/C eyes meeting his clear blue ones, only your eyes are glassy, watery almost. A slight redness forming around them, indicating you had been rubbing at them.
“Are you crying?” He asked in disbelief. He had never seen you cry; you often let out any emotion through sparring or training. This was unusual and different, an emotion he hadn’t dealt with before, not with anyone else, at least.
Your eyebrows furrowed in frustration. “What so I can’t cry now?” Your raised voice made Bucky flinch backwards, “What because I’m big and tough I don’t cry? Well, I do. I may walk around here like I’m one of the guys but I’m a girl, Bucky, I have feelings and they get hurt just like everybody else’s around here.” You snapped, quickly wiping away the now angry tears that fell down over your cheeks.
“I didn’t mean it like that- I didn’t- I’m sorry?” He tried and you scoffed at him. “No, not what I meant. I mean, Steve told me that you think I’m intimidated by you because you’re a girl who is tall, I’m not. –“ He stopped when he sees you cross your arms, eyes a blaze as you glared at him, as if he had just offended you in some way.
“Oh, I see,” He frowns at your tone of voice, condescending pitch. “You aren’t intimidated by me because I’m a girl. So, if I was a guy that’s taller than you, you would be intimidated?” He stumbled to find an answer to that question. “You should just go, really. I’m not in the mood to be looked down to- I mean up- whatever.” You slammed your door and slumped against it, tears falling freely now that Bucky couldn’t see you.
(Because this was in my drafts and I can’t add tags, have this till I can figure out a way to get my laptop working again. I’m so sorry for the inconvenience I’ve caused, I really wanted my vamp!Bucky series up but I can’t add the tagging list. This was beta read, unfortunately, this isn’t my edited version because I can’t get on my laptop! - Rosalie)

I Can’t Take My Eyes Off of You
Steve takes a deep, fortifying breath as he looks at himself at the full-body mirror. He fiddles with his cufflinks, turns to one side then another, checking if anything’s amiss. He smooths his hands down his torso, straightening the already polished shirt.
Today’s the day.
He’s buzzing with energy, with anticipation, with nerves. Everything’s going to be perfect. It has to be.
 *
Steve was sleep-deprived, like he always was whenever he got into a painting binge, as Sam and Bucky liked to call it. He has been awake for probably three days now. He knew he looked like a zombie, but there was no coffee at his apartment. Food was missing, too, but at the moment, coffee was more important.
He walked absentmindedly to his favorite coffee shop a few blocks away. He didn’t bother to change his paint-smeared clothes; the baristas were used to it by now.
He didn’t know how he managed to order and pay for his coffee, but the next thing he knew, he was staring dumbly at his spilled coffee on the floor and a muffin he may or may not have bought sitting sadly on top of the mess. His chest felt wet and warm, probably the coffee but he just kept on blinking owlishly down at his poor, poor coffee and that pitiful muffin.
“…buy you a new shirt, too…” someone’s frantic voice finally snapped him out of his stupor. He looked up and saw big brown eyes framed by long, thick curly lashes.
“Are you okay?” the same voiced asked, worry tinting his slightly high-pitched voice and focused on the face. Gosh, he’s pretty was his only thought.
The other man looked young, probably in his late teens or (hopefully) in his early twenties. He was clean shaven and his face was still slightly rounded with some baby fat. His lips were full and pink and looked like they would taste good.
“Sorry.” Steve muttered as rubbed his eyes. “No sleep since Wednesday.” He tried to suppress a whine, but he didn’t seem to be successful, as he stared sadly at his fallen coffee, because he heard an amused snort.
“I’m Tony.” The other man reached out a hand, which Steve took with a mumble of his name in response. “Let me buy you lunch and a new shirt for the trouble.” The other man—Tony—added with a shy smile.
Steve knew he was a goner by then.
 *
Steve flips the sheet of paper once more as he paces around his hotel room. He has memorized every word but rereading it is somewhat calming.
Tony, from the moment I met you, I knew I’d love you for the rest of my life. Your smile captivated me, still does, to be honest. Your laugh, a soft melody which never fails to enchant me, a siren luring its prey. Your eyes twinkle bright, stars in the night sky lighting up the dark.
 *
“If I kill Obie, would you help me escape jail?” Steve was startled out of his sketching by the sound of Tony’s voice as the younger man plopped down by the seat across from him.
(Tony was, thankfully, twenty-seven when they met, making him only five years younger than Steve. That was two years ago.)
“Oh. Hi, Tony. Yep, I’m fine, how ‘bout you? Oh, I’m currently working on a new project for another show in a few months.” Steve replied dryly with a smile, closing his sketchbook and putting his art materials away, as Tony gave him an annoyed huff and an eye roll, nibbling on the burger that has been waiting for him for almost an hour now.
“So.” Tony started once more, prompting Steve to raise an eyebrow at him. “Will you help me escape? I’m too pretty to be in jail.”
Steve scrunched his brows lightly, humming as he pretended to think about it. “I don’t know, Tones. If you’re in jail, it means there’ll be less days when I’ll have to tolerate you.” He teased, making Tony squawk indignantly.
The younger man pointed a piece of fries at him, eyes narrowed as he said, “Stop kidding yourself, Rogers. You love me and you know it.”
Steve simply smirked and started eating his own food as Tony whined, “No love! Absolutely no love for me around here!”
He ducked his head and let his smile soften, knowing Tony’s aware how much he loves him.
 *
Steve leans back by the window, the light from outside illuminating his words more. He rubs his thumb gently back and forth on the paper, the words lightly faded from how often he’s done it before. He smiles softly, tilts his head back and lets it rest on the windowsill, his eyes closing.
I will remain as the ear you need for all your woes, the friendly face you yearn for when your lost and will never abandon you, even when the world is against you—against us.
 *
The first time Steve saw Tony in women’s clothing was only a month after they met. He was surprised, yes, but only because he almost didn’t connect the beautiful raven-haired woman in front of him with Tony.
(Tony was wearing a black see-through cropped-poncho over a black crop top with some writing on it. His skirt, which was probably six inches above his knees, was a dark red at the top with a flannel-like pattern which then fades to black at the bottom, flaring out over his slim thighs. He was wearing long, black socks, roughly five inches below his knees, with large stripes at the top and black combat-like boots.)
Steve was in a club with Bucky, Sam and Clint when he saw Tony, sitting on a barstool as he talked to an African American man.
At first, it was just an odd feeling, as if he was compelled to look at the beautiful woman by the bar. Then their eyes met. The realization hit him hard as he saw the panic as the woman—as Tony—scrambled off the stool, leaving the man he was talking to.
Steve didn’t think, he shot up and ran after Tony. In the back of his mind, he vaguely registered Bucky calling out to him. Tony was more important, though.
When he finally caught up with the younger man, Tony looked like he was about to cry, but he could still see the determination and fire in those brown depths.
Tony was wearing light makeup, all neutrals as eyeshadow, hazed on the outside, giving his eyes a sultry look. The bottom rims of his eyes were lined with kohl while both his top and bottom lashes were coated with quite a thick layer of mascara. His lips were a blood red—dark and sharp, making his lips appear plumper while his black hair (probably a wig) which fell down to the bottom of his exposed collarbones, curled softly, framing his face well.
Steve has never seen a more beautiful sight.
“Are you disgusted?” Tony’s voice was rough, defensive, snapping Steve out of his musings.
“What?! No! Why would I be?” Steve exclaimed, shocked Tony would think so little of him.
“Because I dress like a girl and I wear makeup.” The younger man responded, as if quoting the words from someone else.
(That was when he discovered how protective Howard and Maria Stark were as parents. He found out they sued a group of rich students who stole all of Tony’s makeup and his feminine clothing, then burned then right in front of Tony and a crowd of other MIT students. Obviously, the Starks won the case.)
“There’s nothing wrong with you.” Steve growled, startling both himself and Tony. He’s had this conversation with Sam a thousand times before and hated people who bullied his friends, people who made them feel like they were less than other people, simply because they were different. “My friend’s genderfluid. Sometimes we call her Samantha.”
Tony stared at him for quite a while, which started to make him feel awkward. “Do you, uh,” he started, trying to break the silence, “do I call you something else, or…” Steve trailed off, not knowing what else to say.
“Natasha.” Tony suddenly blurted out, startling Steve.
“What?”
“Natasha Antonette. I—I’m Natasha Antonette. That’s. My mom said she liked that name.” Tony—Natasha—looked up at him shyly, his lashes fluttering, most like unconsciously. Even with the three-inch heels, Steve was still taller than her. “But you can still call me Tony (i), but with an ‘i’.”
“Okay.” Steve simply smiled and led her back to the bar.
 *
I will cherish you for all time, love you unconditionally and accept you for who you are—for who you want to become.
A knock on the door snaps Steve out of his daydream. The door clicks and Sam pokes his head inside. “Hey, man. It’s time.”
He carefully folds the paper once more and puts it inside his jackets breast pocket. He follows the other man out the door and to the garden where they decided to hold the wedding.
Its winter and there’s still snow on the ground, giving the place a serene atmosphere. All the guests are on their seats as he walks down the aisle with Bucky, Clint and Sam towards the makeshift altar. He sees Tony’s mom right in front with a big smile on her face while his dad simply looks content, waiting for his only child at the back to walk Tony down the aisle.
(Steve knows, no matter how intimidating Howard Stark may look, Tony is one of the most precious beings in his life.)
Tony is Toni today, so Steve knows she’ll be in a wedding dress instead of a three-piece suit. Nobody but Toni and Maria knows what her wedding attire looks like today.
He stands by the altar with his friends as they wait for Toni to make her entrance and walk down the aisle.
When Toni finally appears, Steve’s jaws drop, his breath catches. Just when he thinks Toni can’t get any more beautiful, he’s always proven wrong.
Toni’s shoulder length hair falls with soft curls, a braid on one side pinned by a clip with a white rose design on top. Her dress is a ball gown which tapers nicely on her waist. The upper part of her chest has a flower pattern of sots which goes up to her neck, giving her an elegant look. The sleeves were cut directly in level where the pattern begins. She has white, translucent gloves up to her wrist while she holds a small bouquet of white roses.
She looks like an angel is the only thought running through Steve’s head.
Toni practically glides down the aisle, her arm loops around her father’s. She’s smiling so widely it looks like it will split her face. Her makeup is natural and soft, giving her a more ethereal glow.
When she reaches him, she pauses, lets go of her father and wraps her arms around his neck, pulling him down for a tight hug, her bouquet resting at the back of his neck as she whispers, “Thank you.” He returns the hug tightly, never wanting to let her go.
When they pull apart, her eyes are glistening with unshed tears and he knows he isn’t much better. He takes her bouquet and grasps her hands in his as she loops her arm through her father’s once more. Together, they lead her to Bucky’s waiting arms.
He looks at Bucky as he puts her hand in his, saying without words, take care of her and, since they have been best friends since they were kids, he receives a determined nod in return, with all my heart
I will never leave your side, I will strive to make you happy, even if it’s not with me.
The man who will love you for eternity,
SR
