I think that this is one of those things that...you know, maybe, it could happen, but it is also incredibly preventable and that alone puts it a bit in the category of bullshit for me. Additionally, I do think that there are times when it is purely a bullshit excuse meant to attract what wasn't gained the first time around while evading any negative response.

Dissecting that first one - how does one lose a starter call?

I could understand this if they were very new to RP on tumblr. When you are new to RPing here, you are likely to not tag posts in a way that you can easily find them again searching your own blog {tagging using styles and such that are infamously poor for being reliable searchable, or not tagging at all, for instance}, and you are also very likely to be reblogging a ton of memes, aesthetics, fandom posts, and so forth, while posting information, headcanons, shit posts, etc. That starter call could more feasibly be buried within the plethora of other posts, and if you didn't tag it properly, your task finding it becomes far more difficult than most are going to be alright with pursuing.

But, I do not see this coming from newcomers, I see it primarily from established tumblr RPers who have no such reasonable excuses. People who know they should tag to find things again and how to tag them in order to do so. People who know how quickly a post can become buried on their own blog, and how hard it is to find that post again. People who have experienced how awful tumblr's notification system can be, thus, are aware of the importance of not relying solely on it for things like knowing who liked a starter call.

So, how are they "losing" these starter calls? Carelessness.

Yes, they totally could have posted the starter call while busy, didn't have time to tag it so they could easily and quickly find it again later. Then, they could have remained busier than expected, unable to check and save somewhere who responded. Remaining very busy, but not too busy to not keep reblogging and/or posting other things, until finally, they have the time, but the post is "lost." That is still being careless.

Nope, we cannot always anticipate when we will become too busy, but as I say regarding reading rules before following people, if you are already too busy to do the bare minimum - reading rules first, using the very simple tag #starter call - you are too busy to do this as well and need to hold off until you have enough breathing room. Otherwise, your carelessness isn't just careless in that this starter call has slipped through the cracks when that is easy to prevent, it is also carelessness in the way you are treating others. It is a really basic concept, if you don't have the time and energy to commit to something involving other people, don't do it.

Unfortunately, that's now a controversial statement because the RPC is presently rather rude, self-absorbed, and self-indulgent in a way that isn't alright when other people are involved. How many times do you see posts that outright state, even if in a joking or self-deprecating way, that the mun has drafts piled up, a full inbox, and is unable to tap into muse for the following things, but they really want interactions for this new muse/AU/meme? Or, things like, "someone stop me from adding New Muse number three-hundred-and-one to abandon next month" when they have those other three hundred muses with things owed on them they can't do?

This is the same behavior. The mun wants fresh interactions or specific plots with specific muses, and that's all that matters, not that they're already overwhelmed and should attend to the commitments they've got sitting around. Writing self-indulgent fic is fine because it doesn't involve anyone else, staying up later than you should to keep playing a game is only making you more tired the next day. In RP, your behavior does affect others, and it wouldn't be cool anywhere else. Here, however, we're all only supposed to care about ourselves and that we're getting what we want as often as possible, with the idea that being reasonably mindful of others and conducting oneself with a minute bit of adult responsibility is the antithesis of fun. As well as elitist and toxic if you expect that mindfulness and maturity out of others.

So, it's absolutely alright in the tumblr RPC to post starter calls one has no capacity to keep track of, even if it isn't alright at all. After all, if anyone takes an issue with that and unfollows or says something to you about it, you can always come back with how you're busy, it's just a hobby. Because, somehow, this is the only hobby that requires interaction with other people in which it's okay to be disrespectful of their time.

When this kind of disregard is considered normal and good by the majority, of course, people are going to run with it. Their only imperative is to maximize their entertainment value, things like time management, realizing when you're just too busy to do that one thing you want to badly, keeping track of starter calls, and treating others the way you want to be treated isn't entertaining. It feels like effort, and we keep being told, viciously if necessary, that if it takes effort, it isn't a hobby.

It's absolute carelessness to lose a starter call, this is preventable, and if nothing else, it's on your blog somewhere. If it was really that important to you, you would have made certain it wasn't lost or would go look for it instead of posting a new one.

Dissecting the second point, sometimes it's a little obvious that the "lost" starter calls are just fishing attempts, and that might be worse.

Hey, I know it can be frustrating to want a specific plot, write an AU you're excited about, or start up something with another, specific, muse, but it simply isn't happening. That is a common thing that happens in RP, you have to be willing to stick it out and to realize that it might never happen...or not happen exactly the way it was envisioned. Actually speaking to other muns one wants to start something with goes a very long way, too. The problem is, so, so, many muns are reluctant to approach each other directly - as many as are incapable of being patient or accepting that things do not always work out the way we want.

The ineffective "solution" to this issue is fishing for what is desired by doing things like repeatedly reblogging the same memes in order to get the desired line sent, and/or by the desired mutual, and repeated starter calls. As acceptable as it is to disregard others anymore, it isn't acceptable to be confronted by others, even if being confronted is as simple, reasonable, and polite as being asked about a starter call that was liked but never written up. Here comes the "solution" to that problem - the starter call was "lost," they can't know who all responded or be expected to locate it, that would be demanding and unfair! So, it's "lost" and a new one is put out in the hope that the mutual(s) they wanted to respond does this time around.

This is, again, not cool behavior. The reasons why I feel it might be even worse are that it is predicated upon dishonesty (that is, in itself, predicated upon the willingness of those being lied to believing the bullshit) and will, inevitably, disregard the same people all over again whether the desired writing partner ever responds or not. If they do respond, those other people who liked it again in good faith that the last time their responses were lost are going to be ignored because they did get what they wanted - and it was not this handful of other people. If the desired writing partner does not respond this time, there will be another excuse, including and up to theatrics about no one liking the mun/muse/blog and how this has killed their muse. Those who were not being fished are screwed either way, and sometimes, it might even be after they grudgingly write that starter and reply a couple of times, just enough to be doing something until the desired partner is finally hooked.

In all...

If someone isn't new or has done this more than once, they're not worth your understanding. You're not worth their time, they're making that clear with their actions. This is a terrible foot to start off on! If they can't keep track of a starter call post or ever write the starter for you, they're not going to be a very good writing partner either. They've already, regardless of intention, demonstrated how they feel about you, as well as how they approach RP. I'm sorry if they're someone you want to interact with, but you deserve better!

No muse, blog, or mun is so awesome as to make poor treatment worth interaction for however long it takes before they no longer have to interact with you in order to have some entertainment until what they really wanted comes along. Just unfollow and look for some muns who are fairer, less self-interested, and more responsible for the commitment can of worms they're opening on the dashboard.

Hooooo boy we are feelin some EMOTIONS today, folks.

this is not a happy post, if you’d like to skip I entirely understand, and in fact encourage doing so.

I’ve been needing to do a one of these for a lil bit because I’ve got Thoughts and Feelings and they are complicated and I can’t accurately parse them in my head so we’re gonna air it out on Tumblr like a sheet on the line during laundry day.

here’s the thing.

I got some complicated family feelings in my chest places and it fucking *sucks*.

I was kept from spending time with my family by various means over the past several years to the point where I wasn’t attending holidays - which, in my family, is just not done. You can skip a holiday but you have to make it up on another occasion and I...wasn’t doing that anymore. Two separate people had me convinced I was not loved by my family, that they did not care for or appreciate me like *they* could and that I was better off not being around my family.

And maybe they had some valid points. Which I hate admitting because they used a lot of “valid points” to get me to be completely isolated in life without anyone but them and any time I branched out I was, for lack of a better term, “punished�� for having denied them my attention or time or whatever. (this is of course not as nuanced a take on it as I would prefer but this is already going to be long without me going through the whole...everything, again. Anyway...so I’m no longer with people who are actively trying to keep me from talking to other people/being around people who are supportive of my own efforts and goals, etc. And I was welcomed back into my family with open arms and that was...honestly unexpected. After everything I’d had told to me about how they were and how they should be and what I should feel about them...I wasn’t expecting them to love me.

I rode that rose-colored wave for a *while*. But as the world descends into chaos and I learn more things about myself that make me feel more like *me* than I have...possibly ever now that I try and think about it, I am seeing things that I had hoped had been exaggerated or made up by those in my life who had hurt me.

My parents raised me in a very right-wing conservative household. The evangelical style of christianity didn’t come until I was already an adult but the building blocks must have been there or it wouldn’t have happened so...extremely when it finally did. There were a lot of...really shitty attitudes towards other people that I didn’t recognize growing up in it - I didn’t recognize it until a lot later, in fact.

They’re...They don’t see anything wrong with the way they are. Which, you know, *sucks*.

There’s going to be a lot of dismissive phrases littered throughout this because I’m trying to be...i don’t know. I do it as a thing to lighten the mental load on myself - dismissiveness and joking around, exaggerating for effect, etc. - which i know might come off weird but like...this is really fucking bothering me guys and I...I’m doing my best.

Cause here’s the thing. I was raised believing the world was one way and that we were *right* about things. We had the answers and anyone (liberals) who didn’t agree with us were wrong and would either see the light and come to our side or were too stupid to know how wrong they were so we wouldn’t have associated with them anyway. (reasons why i’m currently frustrated with the political opposition to Republicans/Conservatives/The Right #1 actually)

And then I grew up and I saw the world was not that way. And I expected that my family would be able to see the world with the insight I had gained, and..they just...don’t.

I’ve excused a lot of their shit beliefs recently. not like, trying to defend them to anyone or anything but I don’t confront them. Mostly because I know while they won’t say it to my face, I know how they think about people who think like me (because I was there for those conversations, I was there and I thought like them and now i don’t and that makes me one of those idiots they talked about, a stupid person who can’t see the truth they believe so fully that they think is backed up by facts and figures but their facts and figures are *flawed* - mine aren’t better but I can acknowledge that and extrapolating data from all the things and coming to a conclusion is what I was taught to do but now that I do it for the wrong side what must they think of me? What must they say behind my back?)

I have...a lot of kinda fucked up shit about my family. Nothing overt, nothing that immediately screams to me “Hey fuck-o, this shit isn’t a universal experience and something is wrong here!” but it’ll be small things that I’m like “Ah, okay. Not everyone had this experience and those that did are currently working through the *trauma* of it by going to *therapy*. Hm.”

I’ve done some work in that respect and that’s good. Doesn’t make my issues go away but makes it so I can handle them a little better. Most of the time anyway.

I’m trying to make several things that are true but contradictory work together in my brain and it’s not going well.

1) my family cares about me and wants me to do well.

2) my family has hurt me in the past and is currently hurting me (though not intentionally and not maliciously - please dear god let it be unintentional and non-malicious).

3) My family does not “agree” with LGBTetc people.

4) My family do not believe that there are systemic issues inherent in the government we live in/under and the society we must participate in (Because it benefits them, and they have not had to challenge their thoughts on this before).

5) My family are kind of racist.

6) My family was my only support system when I was leaving an abusive situation.

7) ...My family might have abused me a little.

I go back and forth on point seven a *lot*. See point 2 about the intentionality/maliciousness factors. If they didn’t mean to do it, does it still count?

Does it matter if it still hurts?

My sister outright told me that she doesn’t agree with trans people (meaning she doesn’t believe you can be trans, really). But I’m okay because it’s me, and now I can be her gay best friend when we’re drinking at family stuff.

She didn’t understand why I was hurt by that. I attempted to explain it and she got defensive and angry so I just...didn’t fight about it. Just played the part. I’m her brother when it benefits her but otherwise I’m still her sister. I’m still mom and dad’s daughter. Even though I told them I’m not a girl. I told them I’m a guy.

Dad’s response was the most favorable initially and I think...he might eventually come around to it (he’s always wanted a son. he has a boy dog and has also imprinted really hard on his lawn roomba about it). He also might...not.

I’d like to transition further. Eventually. If it’s feasible. But also, right now it’s not. Right now it’s me cutting my hair short and not wearing dresses or skirts (even though they’re super comfy) because I want to avoid being misgendered as often as possible. It’s binding for uncomfortable and unsafe lengths of time because I am a MAN dammit, and I will be a man at this family function in whatever way I can. And when I go to the length that I do to be seen the way I want to be seen and I am *ignored*....

fuckin’ hurts you guys. I just fuckin’ hurts.

And I want to correct them. I want to stand up and say STOP YOU’RE HURTING ME. PLEASE. I AM NOT A GIRL. I HAVEN’T BEEN THIS WHOLE TIME I JUST DIDN’T KNOW WHY I DIDN’T FEEL RIGHT AS A GIRL. PLEASE JUST CALL ME A BOY, USE MY PRONOUNS, USE A NEW NAME OR AT LEAST THE NICKNAME THAT ISN’T MY FULL NAME.

because I’m scared of losing them again.

And it’s fucked up because they’re *already* lost. They’re Fox-watchers and Trump-supporters and they don’t want to listen to science or facts or *anything* outside of what’s presented to them by pundits and talk show hosts, and the fucking EIB network with their political propaganda for anything that isn’t what the liberals want.

And I don’t know that I can get them back because they’re *real* far down that particular rabbit hole. And I’m...I’m just trying to figure out what I want in life. What makes me happy. And part of what I want is what I always wanted and never had.

I want my mom and dad to look at me, see me, see what I do see how I try and what I love and care about and tell me that I’m enough. That they love me because this is who I am and I am enough for them. Even if I wasn’t accomplished and didn’t try they would still love me because I’m *me*. and I’m their *child* and they *love me*.

And GOD it is so FUCKING painful to know that’s not a realistic thing to hope for. Because I’ve been trying for 28 GODDAMN years doing ANYTHING and EVERYTHING I can to be enough for them. I played good, christian, conservative little girl for SO goddamn long, even when I wasn’t Christian or conservative anymore, even when I saw the cracks, I wanted to be what they wanted.

And even now that I *am* what my dad wanted (a son) I’m not enough because to him i’m still a girl, to my mom I’m the failed daughter the one she didn’t do enough for so now it’s about how she fucked up and not about NO. This is ME. Stop. Stop LOOKING at me like that WHEN YOU DON’T SEE ME. YOU SEE SOME IDEALIZED VERSION OF ME WHO WAS NEVER GOING TO EXIST BECAUSE SHE WASN’T ENOUGH EITHER.

I wouldn’t have done that without my very very good friends who are very very kind to me and god I wish I could do more than draw stupid pictures and write stupid stories for them but it makes them happy too? so i’ll just do what I can and maybe it’ll be alright.

Gonna try not to fall too deep down the abandonment issues pit tonight folks. I’m already upset enough.

While I feel bad for the blogs this got rolled out on and feel terrible they got hate spammed and received death threats, I will absolutely block any blog that I come across with the new Tumblr +(including the 2 in this post) I'm a financially struggling person that comes to Tumblr to escape not only my reality but also the environment that we have seen befall financially motivated social media platforms time and time again. I'm looking at you Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter! Think back to when those platforms first came on the scene they had their flaws but for the most part they were wonderful social communities and look at what they've been reduced to! Instagram was a wonderful place for artists and other creatives to showcase their work, now it's a platform where young kids grow up trying to be social media models, comparing themselves to unattainable beauty standards, and every other post is an AD or sponsored. Twitter used be a place to shit post and connect with others, now it's where people try to go viral or become a meme off a tweet or where they promote their only fans. Facebook used to be used to stay connected with friends and family, again now full of nothing but paid AD's and sponsored posts. Tumblr is or I suppose was one of the last spaces on the internet where people could come to and post whatever they'd like, be anonymous is they so choose, cultivate their content and communities, and simply exist for FREE! As this is one of the last places I can go without being bombarded by "influencers" and others that have made social media and how they're perceived on it their whole lives. Furthermore, 99.9% of the content that I interact with on here is Fandom related which is all copyright protected content, and I for one will not will not even take the slightest risk of being party to any copyright violation or infringement. State of the Support (S1 - Ep 7): One More Year

State of the Support will be a reoccurring series on the Rochester Rhinos Soccer team written from a fan perspective. This series will follow the ups and downs of Soccer Support in Rochester, NY in one of its most trying times in decades.

The funny thing about writing about a soccer team that’s currently on haitus is that you learn to be creative. You imagine when this or that should happen based upon the facts you do know and some speculation. Most American professional soccer clubs go on haitus before folding, all professional American soccer clubs in this country that have gone on haitus for more than a year have folded. In an ironic way the Rochester Rhinos may add another first-in-the-nation accolade if the plan to return to the field in 2021 does in fact succeed.

From remaining the only non-MLS side to win the U.S. Open Cup in the MLS Era to winning four league titles and holding on as one of the country’s lower division mainstays for more than twenty years, the Rhinos would be adding an interesting new title to the Wikipedia page.

In a three-sentence update attributed directly to Rochester Rhinos co-owner David Dworkin, the owner restated him and his wife’s commitment to professional soccer in Rochester, NY. The update goes onto say they’re looking into “…the feasibility of numerous potential locations for a stadium the Rhinos can call home and we continue to have meaningful conversations with community stakeholders…”. It wraps up by confirming the club will not compete in the 2020 USL League One season while not committing to a return in the 2021 season. The statement serves as a proof of life directly from the club which hasn’t provided truly public disclosure of its plans in 15 months. The update went up Friday, December 13th but only appears on the Rhinos website via the ticker of the team’s tweets. Before we go into an extra tidbit about this not in the statement that I received from a source let’s just look at this at face value.

First things first: this update is a good thing. Say what you will about how similar it is to the late 2018 updates and how its even less informative than the Pat Ercoli interview in August; any public statement like this is preferable to total radio silence which at this point would be more indicative of a club entering the endgame. Say what you will about pushing back to 2021, I’ve talked that point to death in the prior episodes of this season of State of the Support, I’m not going repeat myself. David, Wendy and Pat sitting down and putting together this statement is a positive sign if for no other reason than it disproves the fears of diehards like me who last month speculated that the owners could be growing apathetic. This confirms they are not apathetic.

Not specifying a 2021 return is curious but Ercoli did say that in August and its safe to assume if you’re not folding or moving you want to come back as soon as possible. The mention of a stadium and “numerous potential locations” is wording we’ll pick apart for months I’m sure. It’s curious in that it vaguely implies there will be the construction of a building that does not currently exist but ultimately there’s nothing there we didn’t already know. The most interesting part of this statement in my opinion is the last sentence where David says: “…more updates will be provided as our search for a new stadium location progresses.” Forgive me for reading into this, David.

By more updates they must mean more than we’ve received this year, right? For the 20th anniversary of the aforementioned Open Cup Championship no year since the inception of the club has been more devoid of information on the Rhinos than 2019. Should we expect more regular updates, once maybe twice every three months, in 2020? That is not clear in the statement, but I have a trusted source telling me that something like that is the intention. My source tells me the plan is to have public updates throughout 2020. He says regular updates are expected at least leading into the late summer/early fall when USL League One announces the new clubs for the 2021 season. I trust this guy and I have no reason to think he’s not sure of that information. With that in mind it would appear there could be a ramping up of public disclosure, as if emerging from a hibernation. I think we all would welcome that.

So it’s One More Year. It’s official. It’s official from the owners themselves. The development vision Pat Ercoli put forward in August is the blueprint of a club that is focused on the development of local talent. The Junior Rhinos have operated continuously throughout the haitus, they never stopped under the direction of Greg Stanton. Stanton is the only person officially employed by the Front Office that isn’t a Dworkin or Pat Ercoli. Stranton’s very successful direction of the existing Youth Academy aside, its not secret the organization has taken considerable heat from local soccer parents opposed to their Academy even existing. It’s a conflict rooted in the squabbles of affluent suburbanites that at times did affect the professional outfit but ultimately didn’t catch the public headlines. Nonetheless it may crop back up again if and when the club returns as a development-first organization.

One More Year means another year forgotten by the general public of Rochester and greater Western New York. It’s my personal opinion that the Rhinos organization never had any reach into the Buffalo-Niagara region; however in this next year they run the risk of any new information coming out on the USLC Buffalo front and eroding any support west of Batavia that may have existed. One More Year also grants that much more time for NISA Rochester to become nothing… or very much something they now need to compete with.

But what One More Year means most clearly for the State of the Support is a culling. 2019 showed us even those who once gave their all to the Rhinos in supporters groups, online and financially, can all find better things to do with their time. One year, maybe even two years of haitus can be a nice personal break. Three years is a hot minute without your love. Big Rhinos fans have chosen other sides to support with their time and money, more than when the team was still playing. Diehards have even disappeared. If and when the club returns to the field in 2021, only the most passionate of passionate will remain to rebuild supporters culture. One More Year means a truly far-reaching purge of the fanbase.

Why this blog no longer posts anything Supernatural (SPN)

Okay. So. The URL of this blog is supernatural related (the CW show) but it's been a very long time since anything spn related has been re blogged here. This is a post explaining my personal reasons why and most of them are criticisms of how the creators/writers/and fandom have chosen to handle this show whether through social media or the show itself.

DISCLAIMER: This post is in no way meant to target any specific people or offend. If it does offend, it was absolutely not my intention. This post is merely supposed to express some opinions I have regarding Supernatural. This was merely something that I'd been thinking about for a long time, but had yet to post. I have not used any particularly specific information as I have been out of the fandom long enough that I am no longer sure where all of these references are. I'll open the ask box in case anyone has problems with this post that they'd like to address. But I highly doubt that anyone will actually see or read this.

I was drawn into spn because it appeared many times through fandom posts (most screenshots from tumblr) and captivated my attention with its humor, plot, subject matter, and highly implied romantic relations between Dean and Castiel. Destiel was my first gay ship. I spent a summer watching seasons 1-9 and watched 10 and 11 as soon as they appeared on Netflix. I found that the episodes barely held my attention starting in the end of season 6/beginning of 7 on. This is when I started to notice my problems with the writing. The plots and character writing seemed forced. Dean and Sam had died far too many times and come back, and there were still more to come. Even for this show, it was getting ridiculous. The foes they were set against were increasingly powerful, ridiculously so in later seasons. I could no longer feasibly believe that they could beat their enemies, and that they could continue coming back. Drama between the characters seemed forced and the general quality kept going down. I was tired of being barely entertained by the plots of the episodes and seasons and hardly recognizing the characters I had once loved as they had become tools for and products of drama in attempts to keep making money off of this franchise. Once I noticed that they had (at least to me) begun to continue the show solely for profit, I could no longer respect its continuation. To me it should have ended a long time ago.

On the topic of destiel, I'm almost enraged. This ship is, to me, the most blatant use of queer baiting in American television. For many seasons now, romantic feelings have been heavily implied by the writers between Castiel and Dean, but nothing as far as a more than platonic relationship has come of it. Instead, it's used as a plot device, even though never explicitly stated. While I understand that Jensen has stated before that he is uncomfortable with acting in such blatant ways on the show, I feel it incredibly insulting that they continue to imply it so heavily and use it to capture people's attention for the show. I'm sick of their relationship being treated so shitily and dangled in front of the fans like cheap, no longer well written bait.

And destiel ties us into my issues with the fandom. After getting a Tumblr, i came to the realization that the destiel shipping posts I had come into contact with outside of Tumblr were very different from the ones here now. Searching through the ship tags and fanfiction, I was appalled to find out that the vast majority of destiel content was fetishizing the ship, not simply supporting a relationship. It was so gross, going through pages upon pages of archive tags and fic recs dominated by smut fics that I had no interest in. There was only eight destiel fics I've been able to read over the years of being in the fandom, and only two of them were well written. All of them were rated teen or below, but those with a t rating still went into scenes that I would put under mature. Everything else I tried to read were smutty, and most of them seemed to be purely for the pleasure of perceiving both characters as sexual objects more than people. I stopped searching after could no longer find search results that I was interested in. The fetishizing also showed up in peoples perceptions of the actors themselves, there was one particular poet about Jensen that really made me stop following the fandom activity. I stopped following supernatural blogs and tags and stopped reblogging supernatural posts.
