I don't typically add things in reblogs like this but beware, my rambling in the tags is long-winded. Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind just brings that out of me sometimes
Moment of truth...
Keep in mind: I ONLY included the films in which (according to Wikipedia), Miyazaki was the SOLE director. The only one I couldn't squeeze on here was his latest work post-retirement (How Do You Live?). Also, alas, none of the other Ghibli films count, so don't ask for Arietty, or Grave of the Fireflies, etc.
Godspeed and happy voting! ❤
#nausicaa obviously#i was too young to remember when i first watched it - and i have no idea what order i watched the movies in#so i technically have no 'first' ghibli movie#and i've watched them all quite literally thousands of times by now#but over the past month ive watched nausicaa about five times (laputa being three)#so that can give you an idea of how big a part these movies have in my life#the message of nausicaa just resonates with me the most#a lot of the movies have similar messages but its kinda ridiculously obvious that nausicaa is what shaped me as a person#when you ask me about my feelings on topics like the ones in that movie its like the 'theyre the same picture' meme#thats how much it shaped me#i love everything about the movie#the giant warrior terrified me for a long time - in relation to how many years ive been on earth i basically JUST got over that fear#it was the eyes#and you know the weird thing about it? that fear fascinated me#so every time i watched the movie i focused on the eyes specifically to feel that fear#and then fucking- i exposure therapied myself into not being scared anymore and im still pissed about it#it was the kind of fear that made you see something bigger than just the thing youre scared of - it fascinated me so much#i loved it#but even with that fear being gone theres so many things that stand out to me about the movie#i have a lot of feelings about the ohm and the way the world is invisibly healing under the toxic jungle#and the toxic jungle in general#its something that thrives so well - the only thing left thats thriving on its own#all other plant life relies on human care - and the humans are killing each other off#but the jungle is thriving - living off the pollution the humans created#and just like how the pollution killed off everything - the jungle is killing off the pollution#and its seen as evil for doing it because it threatens humanity - because humanity largely on the same side as the pollution#the world does what it needs to to heal in a situation where it looks so incredibly hopeless#its just#yeah - lotta feelings

Here’s another update! We’re excited to introduce the setting, the places that are going to be the focal points of our game. This is rather long, so everything is going under the cut. You are more than welcome to ask questions about the locations, and we’ll answer them to the best of our ability. Depending on how the information is received, we’ll expand or condense the information accordingly.
NOTABLE CITIES
HUTTA TOWN
Hutta Town was the capital of the ecumenopolis moon Nar Shaddaa. It consisted of huge tower blocks that thrust up into the brown polluted air of the moon, with every available space between the structures filled with teetering shanty towns known as skyslums. The area was entirely illuminated by neon signs and holo-displays, with transports filling the skies, not restricted to docking areas or by any form of engine emissions control.
Garbage barges moved between the different buildings collecting the waste of those who hired their services. These customers were unconcerned with the fact that the barges were often overflowing with dianoga-infested waste that fell onto others, caring only that they did not have to deal with the waste any longer. It was controlled by Grakkus, a Hutt crime lord.
NEVARRO CITY
Located on the planet of the same name, Nevarro City was once nothing but full of criminals and bounty hunters alike. As a port for more underground dealings, the city saw many black market and trade through their streets. It was always abuzz in Nevarro City, until the Imperial remnant chose to take over. A Mandalorian covert used to be under the streets in the sewer system, but it has since been cleaned out with no Mandalorians remaining.
When the Bounty Hunter's Guild operated out of Nevarro City, they were based in a cantina just off the main thoroughfare. After the Imperial occupation and the subsequent dissolution of the Bounty Hunter's Guild on Nevarro, the cantina was converted into a school. Families and more upstanding folk came to live on Nevarro, and the rest of the city followed. One thing that remained the same were the Twi'lek healing baths, where anyone can go to relax.
MOS EISLEY
The city was a large spaceport on the planet Tatooine. It was located on the Great Mesra Plateau, north of Anchorhead, and southeast of the Jundland Wastes. The spaceport, while lacking a primary landing facility, contained 362 hangars in which arrivals could berth. While one of the largest cities on Tatooine, the city itself has all manner of background. This includes cantinas for the rich, the poor, the criminal; and other underground places allow the criminal element to flourish.
As with many big cities, Mos Eisley boasts a considerable amount of trade, with the markets sprawling in every which direction. It's easy for one to get lost in the intricate network that is Mos Eisley's streets. Fortunately, there are plenty of people who are willing to help. Most will point you in the right direction, despite their misgivings about one another.
MOS ESPA
One of the few port cities on the Outer Rim planet of Tatooine, Mos Espa filled with dwellings, workplaces, and commercial operations of many kinds, along with entertainment venues, some of which were grandiose in size. The Mos Espa Grand Arena, home to the Boonta Eve Classic podrace, could seat an audience numbering almost as many as the city's entire population. Because the Hutts controlled Mos Espa and found the institution of slavery to be very useful, slaves were often traded within the city.
THEED
The city of Theed was located on the rich, green grass plains of Naboo, to the planet's north where several other larger cities resided. It was found forty kilometers from the Great Grass Plains. Virtually a floating city, Theed nested on the banks of the mighty Solleu River, which led into a network of underwaterways, tributaries, and caves created by the unstable plasma energy in the planet's core, and ultimately to areas such as Lake Paonga and the Gungan city of Otoh Gunga. The city was also built over a vast plasma source located beneath the cliff edge, which, when mined by the Naboo, provided Theed with more energy than it required.
Theed was a cultured city with elegant architecture and a unified, harmonious style borne from rebuilding after a troubled ancient past. Its domed buildings maintained a handcrafted aesthetic, although areas such as the sleek and mechanistic Theed power generator, a popular city attraction hosting regular tours, stood in stark contrast to this style.
CORE PLANETS
ALDERAAN STATION
Built from the remains of the second Death Star, Alderaan Station is still currently under construction. Using debris from the planet that was destroyed by the Death Star, the remainder of the Alderaan people have flocked together to build this new home. Right now the functional capabilities are questionable, as only the main thoroughfare and the attached housing modules are completed. Trade has continued with Alderaan, however, as they trade out the remainder of planet material they can't themselves use.
Over time, it's expected for Alderaan Station to become a major focal point of trade, and to eventually grow into something bigger than a simple space station where a scattered people live.
CORELLIA
Known for its ace pilots and large starships, Corellia was a planet located in the galaxy's Core Worlds. Vessels such as the Millennium Falcon and Imperial starships were built on Corellia. It had a temperate climate and was covered in forests, jungles, and urban centers. One major city was Coronet City (also the planet's capital), which was home to shipyards used to build TIE fighters and Star Destroyers for the Galactic Empire.
The planet became known through the galaxy for the Corellian people's wanderlust and its massive shipyards. The once influential world gained a reputation as a polluted planet with extensive poverty and crime. With its importance in galactic affairs reduced, Corellia was nonetheless recognized for its historic significance.
CORUSCANT
Also known as Imperial Center during the rule of the Galactic Empire, was an ecumenopolis—a city-covered planet, collectively known as Galactic City— in the Coruscant system of the Core Worlds. Though debated by historians, it was generally believed that Coruscant was the original homeworld of humanity. Noted for its cosmopolitan culture and towering skyscrapers, Coruscant's population consisted of approximately one trillion citizens hailing from a vast array of both humanoid and alien species. In addition, Coruscant's strategic location at the end of several major trade routes enabled it to grow in power and influence, causing the city-planet to surpass its early rivals and become the hub of galactic culture, education, finance, fine arts, politics and technology.
Coruscant's surface was defined by its urban sprawl, which collectively was called Galactic City. As a hustling, bustling planet-wide city with an underworld full of dark alleys and an abundance of people, Coruscant provided the ideal conditions for a sneak thief to prosper, especially targeting tourists from quieter planets. Galactic City was divided into sectors named by designated coordinates. Some sectors also had unofficial names. Sector H-46 was unofficially named Sah'c Town. Sectors were further divided into zones, with zones determined by purpose, such as financial, senatorial, or industrial zones.
HOSNIAN PRIME
Hosnian Prime was a cosmopolitan ecumenopolis located in the Hosnian system, on the edge of the galaxy's Core Worlds. Unlike Coruscant, Hosnian Prime is renowned for its peaceful inhabitants. While there is still some crime at the lower levels of the planet, the upper areas are richer, connected by various walkways and super pedestrian passages that allow people to traverse from one business to another. It's here the New Republic is starting to build the first Senate of their government, accumulating political figures from all planets that will join. Hosnian Prime will only be the first of the planets the Senate will travel to.
Aside from the political backbone of the planet, Hosnian Prime also boasts intelligent and creative innovators. Always finding new ways to build starships, ground vehicles, and more in an industrial age they've been in for a long time. Fortunately, they also have their economic prowess, with trade being one of their main focuses as they are along the Corellian Trade Route.
INNER RIM
BASTATHA
A planet in the Bastatha system of the Inner Rim, the planet is independent from the New Republic. It has become a haven for organized crime, and the Kajain'sa'Nikto crime lord Rinnrivin Di ran his cartel on the planet. Bastatha's surface was superheated by its red giant star, forcing all life on the planet, except for some bacteria, to live in underground caverns and tunnels. These tunnels network for thousands of miles, allowing people to live and thrive despite the harsh conditions.
The criminal element hasn't put off those looking for more black market trade. Merchants can find anyone and everyone to sell their wares to, which has allowed the planet to gain some economic standing in the Inner Rim despite its background for being a criminal haven.
JAKKU
A remote desert planet located in the system of the same name, it is within the Western Reaches of the galaxy's Inner Rim. Though considered by many within the galaxy to be distant and relatively worthless, Jakku was the site of important events that would shape galactic history. In 5 ABY, Jakku was the site of the pivotal Battle of Jakku, which ended the Galactic Civil War in favor of the New Republic.
Jakku was once a verdant world with forests and water, but some past calamity turned it into a barren globe of scorched badlands and marching dunes. It hosted the Wheel Races in the north and mining operations dotted the planet. Buttes were located in the south in which lichen could be scraped off of to create the alcoholic beverage Knockback Nectar. One could become an Anchorite if certain vows were taken, while scavengers often used luggabeasts to carry supplies across the desert.
JEDHA
Also known as the Pilgrim Moon, or as the Cold Moon, it was a small desert moon which orbited the planet NaJedha. Located in the Jedha system of the galaxy's Mid Rim, the moon had a cold climate due to its lasting winter. The historical and spiritual significance of Jedha led the moon to become a world of worship for those who believed in the Force, and a holy site for pilgrims who sought spiritual guidance.
Sometime before the Battle of Yavin, the Galactic Empire occupied the moon to control its kyber crystal resources that were once used by the Jedi Order as components for their lightsabers. The occupation later provoked an insurgency to oppose the Imperial tyranny, coordinated by the rebel extremist Saw Gerrera. Sometime after the Empire abandoned Jedha, and after the destruction of its main holy city, the moon was hardly visited by those seeking peace and meditation. Finally, the population began to grow, and on another part of the moon where kyber crystals had been plenty, a new religious settlement was founded, continuing the traditions the major city had before.
NABOO
A bountiful planet in the Chommell sector of the Mid Rim, close to the border of the Outer Rim Territories, it was home to the Gungan species and to a population of humans known as the Naboo. Naboo was pushed to the forefront of galactic politics as the birthplace of the Dark Lord of the Sith Sheev Palpatine, who served as its representative in the Senate of the Galactic Republic, and later went on to become the Emperor of the Galactic Empire.
Naboo's surface comprised a vast array of different landscapes, from rolling plains and grassy hills to swampy lakes caused by the water-filled network of deep-sea tunnels. The swamps acted as a gateway to the world's seas, where legendary creatures dwelt. Besides its natural features, Naboo was considered a world of classical beauty due to the aesthetics of its population centers. The porous crust's natural plasma was harvested for energy and building material, and was generally thought to be the key to many of the planet's secrets.
RING OF KAFRENE
Referred to simply as Kafrene, it was a mining colony and deep-space trading post in the Kafrene asteroid belt of the Thand sector. The Ring of Kafrene was a monumental construction which served as both a mining colony and a deep-space trading post. Its structures, made from durasteel and plastoid, were slung between a pair of malformed planetoids in the Kafrene asteroid belt. Areas such as its aft docking bay were covered in lurid, phosphorescent graffiti. Roads led out from the docking bays towards the distant rock warrens of the planetoids, and the outpost itself was a labyrinthine sprawl of shacks, prefabricated housing, and countless maze-like corridors.
Although there was some structure to the buildings around the main throughways, beyond these areas the layout of the Ring changed almost daily; shacks were made of sheet metal, and shelters utilized housing units recycled from foreign colonies. Alien housing complexes and tenements featured ventilation shafts that sent wafts of ammonia into the streets.
OUTER RIM
NEVARRO
A volcanic planet located in a sector of the Outer Rim Territories, Nevarro was home to a number of various individuals, including the Bounty Hunters' Guild, who were based out of a cantina on the planet. During the Imperial Era, the Galactic Empire controlled Nevarro, though they lost control of the planet after the end of the Galactic Civil War. Despite the turmoil it's had in recent times, Nevarro has become a hub of trade and economics, with new upstanding citizens and mining operations coming to the planet to have a slice of a world not completely settled.
RYLOTH
A planet in the Ryloth system of the Outer Rim Territories, and the homeworld of the Twi'lek species, its terrain varied, filled with jungles, mesas, valleys, and volcanoes, and had an atmosphere breathable for Twi'leks and humans alike. A forest covered its equator, filled with dangerous predators. Given the varied and dangerous terrain, Twi'leks lived in caves underground where it was safer. Ryloth was a hot, humid world and a hot bed of life. Its surface included regions of desert such as the Jixuan desert, rocky dustbowls, patches of dense jungle big enough to be visible from orbit, and mesas. A portion of the planet some distance from the Jixuan desert acted as breeding grounds for the gutkurr species.
Ryloth was an important world due to the fact that it was the homeworld of the influential Twi'lek species. For centuries, the planet and its people were exploited by the Hutts and their criminal enterprises as the world served as a key world for the spice trade where slave labor was used to produce goods. On Ryloth, it was possible to find all manner of crime, though most of it was organized into the spice and slave trades. Most come to Ryloth for a less than savory reason, but there are some areas that can be navigated without having to worry about being attached.
Ryloth's economy and independence came under threat from the Nikto crime lord Rinnrivin Di's cartel, which had become a major spice dealer and smuggling group. Rinnrivin's cartel exacted a heavy toll on Ryloth's offworld shipping due to sporadically-enforced New Republic financial regulations, infrequent patrols of the shipping lanes, and rampant bickering within the Galactic Senate.
SRILUUR
Sriluur was a desert planet located in the Hutt Space region of the galaxy's Outer Rim Territories that was the homeworld of the Weequays, a species whose tough, leathery skin helped them endure its harsh conditions, and the Sriluurian butterfly. Sriluur was conquered by the Hutt Cartel, which was controlled by the Hutts from the neighboring world of Nal Hutta, who turned the Weequays into slaves or vassals. The pirate Hondo Ohnaka, leader of the Ohnaka Gang, was a male Weequay from this world. Now known as a notorious criminal world, Sriluur was a place of haven for those that were less than fortunate, and those who thrived in the crime element.
TATOOINE
A sparsely inhabited circumbinary desert planet located in the galaxy's Outer Rim Territories, it was the homeworld of Anakin and Luke Skywalker, who would go on to shape galactic history. Part of a binary star system, the planet was oppressed by scorching suns, resulting in the world lacking the necessary surface water to sustain large populations. As a result, many residents of the planet instead drew water from the atmosphere via moisture farms. The planet also had no natural surface vegetation.
The planet itself is home to a variety of species, mostly clustered in the city centers such as Mos Eisley and Mos Espa. Bounty hunters come to Tatooine as many bounties try to hide out in the sands, the dunes a good cover if one can survive the harsh conditions and the Tusken Raiders.

Message for March 2020
Watching the stormy seas crash over the rocks and the sea wall (from the safety of the café!) is both invigorating and enlivening. As the waves grow larger and larger, their power and force become clear as they toss large pebbles and pieces of driftwood into the air without a care as though they are twigs. The booming crash is both exciting, but terrifying. The sea holds such power and majesty, as it shapes and defines the land, carving out new features as it goes. Whilst we, as humans, try to bend and shape the seas from sea walls to flood defences, the sea takes no prisoners. It just does what it does with grace and impunity.
Watching a tree changing from one season to the next invokes a great many different emotions from new life in the spring when the leaves grow green, blossoms burst and buds start to form, from the spectacular array of colour before the leaves start to fall in the autumn, to the quietening down as they rest in wintry slumber. Animal, plants, trees and the natural world move from season to season, accepting the cycle of life, constantly adapting, finding ways to thrive and survive even during times of challenge and adversity.
It’s easy to create a long list of the majesty of the natural world and the awe-inspiring presence it has in our lives, yet it is clear to see that nature is struggling with the rapid pace of change of the earth, from fires to floods, melting ice caps to extremes of temperatures. There is a sense of confusion as we struggle and flounder, trying to outwit and outsmart something far beyond our reach.
It seems clear that the time to outwit and outsmart is beyond us, but we are now in a time of reverence and respect. Instead of assuming that others will ‘sort it out’, we each need to take responsibility in order to live as respectfully as possible. Of course, we can carry on regardless, but the price is an ever-increasing unpredictability of the world in which we live.
When we create waste (plastic or otherwise) we each need to consider the impact of this. Whilst it may get burned, stuffed in landfill or shipped off overseas to be processed, our choices have consequences. When we insist on wanting more of nature’s more delicate crops and the result is increased use of pesticides, herbicides and other chemicals, we need to realise that our choices have consequences. When we lovingly clutch our new healing crystal, we need to realise the devastation the mines create and accept that our choices have consequences.
Yet, it’s not just about how we treat the earth and her non-human inhabitants, we also need to consider how we treat one another. In the age of social media, there seems to be a growing trend for individuals to bully and spout hate. Packs of ‘trolls’ lambast others for fun, not considering that their actions can destroy a life.
In a world where we can be anything, do we really want to be defined by the things we don’t want, rather than simply embracing the traits we know to be wholesome from kindness and wholehearted living? So many of us have forgotten how to be wholehearted as we have shut down in order to get through the business of everyday life.
It’s time to be loving, compassionate, kind and thoughtful, respecting all living things and trying to live in the best possible way, not just so future generations have an earth, but because it’s the right thing to do. So many people now seem to have adopted an attitude of let everyone else sort it out. If we all do that then the future doesn’t look bright.
Personally, I delight in watching the trees change season; seeing nature in her true majesty fills me with awe. Yet human beings create blocks to the natural flow by living in concrete jungles where an awareness of the natural cycles fade away. A chicken wrapped in plastic on the supermarket shelf is disconnected from the chicken who (hopefully) lived a good life. Chicken is just food, not a gift and certainly not honoured for the life it sacrificed. Many of us live juxtaposed to the natural flow. We can have foods all year round now, not just when they are in season. The fact that the food accumulates thousands of air miles in the process is forgotten. We want whatwe want, whenwe want it.
We may be an adaptable species, but there is a deeper sense of disconnection consuming so many hearts and souls as we step away from the natural cycles of life. Blue light pollution from phones, tablets and other items light up the sleep space, the outside world is often disregarded for the virtual world of 24/7 constant stimulation. So few have the time to notice the changing leaves, the birdsong, the majestic forests whispering in the moonlight.
As much as we may try, we simply cannot outsmart and outwit nature. The more we continue to live out of kilter with the rest of life feeds the disconnection and it becomes harder and harder to feel integrated and a part of the whole. Yet, we are. It’s easy to feel isolated from life, and more at home in a virtual world, but that’s not real. It’s understandable that so many seek retreat in technology as a distraction from life, but this only exacerbates the problem. It’s therefore important for us to start pushing back, to re-connect to the earth, to life and to each other.
March looks set to be a month where the momentum of re-connection starts to grow stronger. We each have a choice as to how we live. This is a time to stand up, to be whole-hearted and to consciously re-connect to the natural flows in life. Of course, we cannot know where such a path will lead us, nor will we know if others will follow suit, but we owe it to ourselves to do the very best we can do to live in the best way possible.
Change is happening on many different levels and in many different ways, and we need to stop losing ourselves in our virtual and concrete worlds and start to live once again. It’s time to breathe more deeply into life and to step fully into each and every moment. Intent is a powerful force, and not one to be underestimated. It’s our willingness and passion to create change that builds and grows, reaching out to others, being carried across space and time before being breathed in again somewhere else.
We are not insular beings and although we may shut ourselves away and close our eyes and ears to the bigger picture, we are each being pushed towards awakening fully in order to wholeheartedly acknowledge that every choice has a consequence and to connect consciously to the world in which we live rather than remaining locked away in a virtual state of disconnection and discord.
It’s easy to feel overcome with emotion when we look at the world around us, but we need to channel this into love, compassion and positive change. We each have our parts to play, however small. The time is now…
For now, I wish you all kinds of wonderful.
With love,
Sarah-Jane
Aries
♈
Your life has been all-steam ahead lately, as though someone pressed the fast forward button and forgot to release it again. As a result, you’ve barely had time to take a breath, let alone take stock of your surroundings, as there has been so much to do, people to see, places to go and things to achieve. You have always placed yourself under pressure to do more, be more and achieve more, but the added fast pace of life seems to have sent you into something of a spin, as you’re not quite sure if you’re coming, going or somewhere in between. Whilst you do usually thrive under pressure, even you are wilting as you simply cannot keep up with the pace; although you have ticked a great many items off of your great big ‘to do’ list of life, you seem to have lost sight of the bigger picture. Your focus is on getting things done, but this seems to be at the cost of many of your goals and dreams gathering dust in the corner of your heart and soul.
It’s therefore easy to see why you are buckling under the load of things to do, people to see, places to go and tick lists to complete. Of course, with you being you, you also need to add to the mix the plethora of ought’s, must’s and should’s. It’s exhausting just reading about it! March looks set to bring you an opportunity to re-set the balance and to have a good re-think as to your true priorities in life. It’s time to stop trying to be superhuman and to start loving yourself more as you take care of your true needs and love yourself for all that you are rather than all that you do…
Taurus
♉
March looks set to be a month to create some more breathing space as you begin to find new ways of simplifying and streamlining your life. Whilst you don’t tend to choose to make your life more complicated, there is a sense that you have been overwhelmed with responsibilities and things to do recently, and this has left you tied up in knots, feeling rather bewildered and in a spin. It’s as though you have lost your usual earthy sure-footedness, and find yourself suspended in mid-air, trying to regain your footing in order to breathe deeply once again. The harder you try to return to solid ground, the more you seem to spin, so it’s important for you to realise that most (if not all) of the spin is in your control. You’re busy and stressed because you don’t like to say no, and you’ve over-complicated your life by not honouring your own needs.
The time has come for you to pause for a short while in order to regain your perspective. You are a wise, compassionate and creative soul, and in order to function to the best of your abilities, you thrive on the challenge of trying to be everything to everyone. Of course, you forget about your own needs in this, but you gain a sense of your self-worth from being the person that everyone else wants you to be. This takes skill and tenacity, and you have both by the bucket load, but you’ve spent so long with your breath held in, trying to do your best and be the best, and it feels slightly hollow unless you are wholeheartedly feeling it. In essence, it’s time to open up your heart and soul towards thriving and blooming once again as you take a big deep breath of life…
Gemini
♊
Life is full of a seemingly random collection of incongruent moments. Some flow together well, others are juxtaposed and awkward, unable to fit together as though they are like two repelling north magnets. Each moment is a fragment in time where you can experience an infinite possibility of emotions and thoughts; you never know what you’re going to get, but the rollercoaster ride of choices, decisions and consequences can sometimes leave you in a daze. On the whole, you manage these moments rather well as you’re open-minded and can see the different flows of consciousness with each moment, sometimes gaining wisdom from the bigger picture and other times feeling able to go with the flow. Of course, there are times when you want to know more and you push hard to dig, question and make sense of why things are the way they are. Sometimes you get an answer, mostly you don’t, and whilst this doesn’t stop you trying, it seems that you are beginning to realise the power and majesty in letting go and going with the flow.
March looks set to be something of a collision of moments; a coming together of many different facets of your life into something new. Such collisions do happen, and they usually take your breath away, but this one feels different as you seem so ready for it. It’s as though you have reached a turning point in your life, and you are eager to explore new terrain and reconnect to your emotional and spiritual roots. You have spent a great deal of your life trying to be the person you felt you ought to be, but the time has come to be yourself and to love yourself for it. You are vibrant, inspirational and intuitive, so use these gifts to shine brightly. This is your moment; enjoy it…
Cancer
♋
There is a powerful sense of release and renewal in the air throughout March as you begin the process of re-establishing your awareness in the here and now. You seem ready to let go of the past and to stop keeping your focus on the future, as you step more consciously into where you are now. You’re usually so busy keeping on keeping on that you don’t have the time to realise just how out of balance you’ve become. It’s only when you pause for a short while that you begin to realise just how much you’ve been drifting. Of course, both the past and the future have their uses, as both give context and meaning to the present, but the present moment is what you have now, and this is surely the most important thing? What may or may not happen tomorrow shouldn’t guide your today, nor should past experiences be the sole guide of choices made today.
In short, it’s time to trust your phenomenal intuition in order to live more consciously and in tune with your true essence. You seem ready now to stop thinking about the path you’ve walked and the path you want to walk to instead focus on the path you’re now walking. This isn’t to say that you should stop having dreams or stop gaining wisdom from past experiences, as both have learning potential, but use them as a reference point rather than a place to hang out. Be in the moment and you will quickly realise there really is no other place to be. It’s important to remember that yesterday is behind you and tomorrow hasn’t happened yet; by shifting more consciously into the here and now you can start to breathe more deeply into life whilst allowing life to breathe into you…
Leo
♌
March looks set to be a month of breakthrough as you begin to shift your awareness towards acknowledging your true priorities and dreams in life. You have spent a great deal of time trying to be the person you thought you ought to be and whilst this has seen you achieve a great deal, you seem ready now to listen to your heart and soul in order to be the person you truly are. A time of breakthrough may suggest change and shift, and both are likely as you step into a new chapter of your life. You may feel the fluttering of uncertainty inside, as you’re not yet clear as to what this new chapter entails, but despite this, intuitively you know you are not only ready, but you want it, need it and feel excited to welcome it into your life. Of course, alongside this excitement, there is a layer of apprehension and uncertainty, but you seem ready and open to the process now, so intuitively you know it’s time to believe in yourself.
Try not to let those inner butterflies take over as your more cautious side may start to hold back as you step towards unchartered terrain. This is your moment to re-shape the story of your life and whilst what lies ahead cannot be set in stone, you know it’s the right path as your soul is burning brightly with passion and joy. It seems clear that the more you can acknowledge your true priorities, the more clarity you will gain when it comes to sorting the wheat from the chaff in all areas of your life. At the same time, stop feeling like you’re not enough as you are not only enough, you are extraordinary, glowing and magnificent…
Virgo
♍
Over recent weeks and months there is a sense that you have felt as though you’ve been torn into two, on one hand trying to be everything to everyone, but on the other, trying to acknowledge your own self-worth, sense of self and path of destiny. It’s as though you have split yourself in two, feeling as though it’s a case of either one or the other. Of course, intuitively you know this isn’t the case, but logically when you look at your life, you cannot see how you can honour yourself and your dreams when you give so much to so many. As a result, you have lost some of your sure-footedness as your inner landscape feels stormy and chaotic; you are doing battle with yourself trying to outwit…yourself. This may sound strange, but you are a master thinker and over-thinker, and whilst you can sense the inner divide, instead of pausing to find a way through it, you are oscillating in a kind of no-man’s land where you’re not really sure if you’re coming or going.
Your inner storms suggest you are now beginning to include yourself in the equation of your life, but this still seems to sit juxtaposed to your sense of purpose as though you think taking care of your own needs is somehow self-indulgent or selfish. It’s not! The stormy landscape reflects the turmoil within you as you want to honour yourself more, but feel guilty for doing so. This really needs to stop now, and you need to remember that you truly are the wisest person you know so listen to yourself and apply your wisdom to know that it’s perfectly possible to heal this inner divide in order to become whole again. In fact, it’s more than becoming whole, it’s realising just how marvellous you truly are…
Libra
♎
Finding peace with your true nature is something you have long strived to do. You have spent a great deal of time pondering this as you so easily see the bigger picture, as well as the finer details, of life. It’s as though you are nearing a point of shift where you are finally beginning to wholeheartedly accept your natural state of being. You have an active mind, and an expansive and vast consciousness, and these blend together to form the whirling, swirling inner maelstrom within your heart and soul. Of course, you have long done battle with your inner maelstrom, feeling as though peace and tranquillity should be your natural state of being as that is what so many others believe. However, you are not like other people and you really need to stop comparing yourself to them as this only serves to stifle your self-belief.
Your inner maelstrom may be troubling to a great many souls as they strive for inner peace, however, your path to peace and tranquillity is about living consciously and vibrantly at the heart of the maelstrom where your passion is on fire and you feeling deeply connected to everyone and everything. Being you is definitely an art and it may take a lifetime to perfect, but it’s time to live, breathe and love being yourself. You’re ready now to channel your courage into being the person you truly are as you let go of doubts and stop trying to blend in; let your true colours shine brightly and allow your gifts to blossom and unfurl. It’s time to stop thinking about the life you shouldn’t be living, or don’t want to be living, and instead start to focus on the living the best life possible. Let your vibrancy, creativity and maelstrom shine brightly. Love yourself for all that you are; your beautiful maelstrom is your gift…
Scorpio
♏
It seems you have spent a great deal of your life trying really hard to blend in; to become another face in the crowd. Your reasons for this are not overtly clear, although on one level there is a sense that blending in makes for an easier life. However, although you have certainly mastered the art of becoming a wallflower, you have found it hard not to want to be that one wallflower that sparkles and shines. In other words, trying not to get noticed when your soul illuminates so brightly makes for a frustrating challenge, as the harder you try to blend in, the more you stand out! Yet, rather than fighting even harder to blend in, it seems time to ask yourself why? Why is hiding your light away an easier path? Why is blending in so desirable?
It’s true that you have had your fingers burned in the past for being a trailblazer and you have felt the pain of the lack of understanding of some around you, but intuitively you know you thrive when you are riding on the crest of a wave or meandering upstream against the flow because you blossom when you allow yourself to be you. You have spent so long wanting to be you, but fought this in order to be the you that you think you should be. Confused? Well, you should be! Who are you? Are you a bright sparkly soul or another face in the crowd? Maybe you’re both? There are no easy answers to any of these questions as you are far from straightforward in the best possible way! It may therefore be wisest to move away from logic and ask your heart and soul what you truly want? Make your decision and find peace with it. Stop struggling and believe in yourself…
Sagittarius
♐
As you continue to contemplate the bigger picture of your life, there is a sense that you are beginning to wholeheartedly lighten the load by letting go of a great deal. You have always been one for collecting ideas, skills and possibilities, keeping them all tucked away in case they one day become useful. As a result, you have learned a great deal, but you have also started to stand a little more hunched as the weight of that backpack is exponential! It’s time now to have the confidence to set yourself free, to trust that the skills and ideas you need will stay with you and to let the rest go. March looks set to be a month that is both liberating and invigorating, as you begin to stoke the fires of your soul. You are a passionate and compassionate free spirit; carrying such a huge backpack acts like a tether keeping you in one place, bringing you self-doubt and frustration. Although your intentions behind the backpack were good, it stopped serving a positive purpose quite some time ago.
It’s hard to let it go because it represents to much hard work and so many dreams, however that hard work and those dreams won’t vanish just because you put the backpack down. It’s time to start believing in yourself and realising that no size of backpack will ever be enough to replace your tenacity, wit and innovative skills. Thriving in life isn’t about carrying around possibilities and ideas, it’s about living those possibilities and ideas to the best of your ability. Stop feeling like you’re not enough or that you need to do more, be more or achieve more as you are so much more than you could ever truly know. Have the courage to believe in yourself, step beyond the backpack and be free…
Capricorn
♑
As you continue to breathe deeply into the nooks and crannies within your heart and soul, you are beginning to gain a stronger sense of purpose once again. For a long time now, you have been focused on the business of keeping on keeping on, not affording yourself the ‘luxury’ of connecting to your dreams or feeling free to open up your heart to your sense of purpose. It’s understandable, after all, you have been working hard to live your life and there has been little time to dream or ponder the bigger picture. However, the more you breathe deeply now, and the more you let go, the more you are beginning to realise that there could be so much more to your life as those nooks and crannies expand revealing untapped potential and hidden reserves. It’s not that you are particularly unhappy, but there is a low rumble of discontentment deep within you as you know just how much you have compromised over the years in order to keep the wheels turning and everyone happy.
Whilst you are not bitter about this, there is clearly some work to do on finding peace with the choices you’ve made and the pathways you’ve walked. In short, it’s time to let go of ‘if only’ in order to ‘just do it’. Now this isn’t to say you should throw caution to the wind, it’s more of a virtual prod in the ribs to remind you to live your life for you, not just for everyone else. Stop hovering on the edge of ‘if only’, as it’s time to find real solutions in order to embrace your dreams and breathe wholeheartedly into life. These solutions may not be obvious, but trust your instincts and let your intuition guide you as March looks set to be a month of revelation and inspiration…
Aquarius
♒
The art of acceptance looks set to take centre stage throughout March as you begin to see yourself, your life and others from a brand-new perspective. As you continue to let go of your in-built tendency to push yourself so hard and to have such high expectations of yourself, you are beginning to see the joy within your quirks and idiosyncrasies. It’s as though you have realised that your quest for perfection keeps you away from living your life as you are perpetually chasing the horizon, rather than being in the moment. Letting go of perfection isn’t giving up or giving in, it’s about acknowledging the beauty in your imperfections and loving yourself anyway.
Acceptance can be a tricky concept to grasp as it means changing the way you see yourself, your gifts, others and your life, but you seem ready now to stop giving yourself such a hard time to do more and be more. Instead you are allowing your aspirations to take on their own life as you breathe deeply into each and every moment, expanding your boundaries and evolving with the changing tides. With less focus on the gap between where you are and where you want to be, you are allowing yourself the opportunity to fully appreciate the value of the here and how. Chasing horizons can be addictive, but with time, you realise it can also be restrictive as well. Acceptance isn’t clear cut or black and white; it’s very personal to you and only you can find your way to this state of being. Yet, it’s not about perfecting acceptance, acceptance is about embracing life exactly as it is. You’re ready now to further expand your boundaries as you grow ever more fluid and free; not a piece of driftwood, but a majestic ship sailing gracefully towards unchartered waters…
Pisces
♓
March looks set to be a month which fills you with tingles of excitement and anticipation, as well as a good sprinkling of magic and sparkle, as a renewed sense of hope and optimism rise up from within you like a daffodil on a spring day. Life has been heavy and onerous lately, particularly on the emotional and energetic levels, and you have been bogged down and overwhelmed trying to get from one day to the next. As a result, there has been little or no time for creative or spiritual endeavours. Most, if not all, of your energy has been channelled towards keeping on keeping on, getting things done and making it through each day. The heaviness is palpable and it’s understandable why you have been feeling so out of sorts. Of course, you are extremely skilled at juggling (as you’ve mastered the art to Olympian level!). However, things are beginning to shift as you stand up and declare a new intention for creating breathing space and exploring pastures new.
You now need to step beyond the confinement your life circumstances have created for you and realise just how stifled your spirit has become. This has left you feeling disconnected and out of sorts, but it’s time to breathe deeply and open up your consciousness towards the bigger picture once again in order to reconnect and feel wholeheartedly alive. You are a vibrant, colourful and passionate soul, so don’t stay hidden in the shades of grey of life. Instead, start to wiggle, wriggle and move, stop juggling so much, learn how to say no, but also how to say yes as asking for help is a sign of strength! Don’t feel guilty for honouring yourself; love yourself, be yourself and allow yourself the freedom to wiggle, wriggle and dance. It’s time to nourish yourself from the inside, out…

28/05: Narratives/Locations
Destruction of nature. Saving the nature saves us. love and understanding of nature. fascinating and wonderful. - David Attenborough.
7 Locations inspired by ‘Our Planet’ documentary narrated by Sir David Attenborough... and WWF International series on youtube. everything is connected if we focused on improving our impacts, it has a domino effect.
FROZEN WORLDS: climate change - green house gases - 2/3 is produced from burning fossil fuels. other large contributors are vehicles, industry and power stations. CLEAN ENERGY - solar, wind. electric cars. transitions; can we achieve this fast enough. stop cutting down trees that lock away our carbon emissions - to reduce our carbon impact and save species. re-wilding our planet is not just a nice thing to do, it is essential to stabilising our planet. clean energy leads to less air pollution - which helps human health. increasing temperatures affecting habitats of polar bears and walrus.
FORESTS: re-wild the land. resilience. forests are struggling to bounce back from us - nothing take down trees faster than humans (others being climate change and natural disasters). showing the percentage loss of forests and the effect on biodiversity and ecosystems. forest guardians - preditors. we just need to give trees the opportunity to draw from their natural resilience. protecting ancient forests. careful extracting from them, not over exhausting the resource - increasing demand for wood from increasing population. becoming more effective farmers - adapting healthier diets we will free space for plantations and space for forests to take back. MAKE SPACE FOR FORESTS TO TAKE BACK. healthier and happier - introducing more nature into our lives.
FRESH WATER: every living thing on the planets needs (fresh) water. nutrients. importance if keeping the fresh water cycling flowing. FLOW. dams and extracting to much water is dramatically effecting flow. repercussions of this - fresh water habitants die out, fish species die out, rivers dry out, dams causeing flooding in human habitats. fresh water species are dying out faster than any other habitat. restoring fresh water systems making sure what ever we do we don’t affect the flow of rivers. renewable energy - some dams will need to stay but managing them properly - if the are not running and can’t be fix taking them down. the ones we keep managing them so they act like natural rivers, releasing more water when appropriate. TREAT WATER LIKE GOLD. efficient and smarter farming will reduce how much water is needed. planting crops appropriately, where the climate is right. clean and recycled water. plant nature (green walls ect) in urban environments to prevent flooding... inviting nature back.
JUNGLES: they regulate global weather, cools the planet, generates water, absorbs carbon, medicines, food and materials. high biodiversity and ecosystems. WE HAVE CLEARED ENOUGH. use land smarter and more efficiently. creating plantations for food, wood/paper in areas that are degraded, and restoring jungles where we can. jungles retain water are protect form fires. USE JUNGLES GENTLY. sustainably, tourism helps bring in money to support those who take care of these environments. products we buy - ‘deforestation free’ sending a clear message to companies that we will only accept products that are deforestation free and companies can benefit from telling us that. rewarding nations that lock forests (and forests) off. creating/protecting jungles and their habitants so they will last forever.
HIGH SEAS: no one owns therefor no one is responsible for it. fish, albatross, grill, whales - plants - phytoplankton, oxygen producing , soaks up carbon. we nearly loss whales - an example of the resilience of species when humans give them a chance to recover and set policies in place to protect them. bycatch. waste - plastic - overfishing. only 1% of high seas are protected - if we increase this species have a chance to thrive. seeking products that don’t need to be thrown away. international agreements to protect the high seas - UN these have worked before. after UN called a halt on whaling - species regained populations. RESTORE OUR SEAS.
GRASSLANDS: revolutions in what we eat and how we grow it - becoming healthier. grasslands are home to large gathering of species and those that hunt them. once grasslands covered a 1/4 of the planets land. SPACE IS EVERYTHING. we - humans have been taking this space - for farming of animals and crops. us and our domesticated animals equate to 96% of mammals on earth. our demand of space increases every year with our increasing population. food - the future of food. reduce our consumption of meat. the production of meat demands so much space. planting crops in the right locations - if a crop needs lots of water, growing them with high rain levels. vertical farms and urban farms. sustainable/smarter farming. eating less meat will benefit our health dropping health disease by 20% and saving money in health care. INVITE THE WILD GRASSLAND TO RETURN.
COSTAL SEAS: we use to catch more fish and bigger. over fishing. exhausted fishing population. more fish leads to higher populations i those that can eat them. MARINE RESERVES. fish can bounce back. less areas to fish does not lead to less fish. the over spill from the reserves are expected to give fisheries more and larger fish. 7% of our oceans are protected. scientist recommends this to be 30% to ensure seas can regain health. sustainable fishing leads to regulated stocks. sending bigger boats and catching more fish has lead to lower and lower stocks. and short term profits. insuring we have protected areas can lead to fishermen spending less time fishing and catch more fish.

Is just a buzzword or the way we’ll all be travelling in the near future? In this post we share the many benefits of , to you and the places you go, plus we take a look at some of the negative impacts of . Read on if you want your travel to be greener.
What’s in our guide to the benefits of ?
1. 3. 5. 7. 9. Also don’t miss these posts:
Our guide to slow travel and how to do it → 11 tips to be a green tourist → Best Game of Thrones destinations → World’s best eco retreats →
Does really have a positive impact?
Though has grown in popularity during that last decade or so, it is still often just a marketing buzzword.
Ecotourism and are the best friends of concepts like responsible travel, sustainable travel, nature travel, mindful travel, and slow travel — though I would argue that these all have slightly different meanings.
Let’s start off by defining what we mean by (or ) versus how the world at large understands it.
“Responsible travel to natural areas that conserves the environment, sustains the well-being of the local people, and involves interpretation and education.”
The International EcoTourism Society
Let’s break that definition down into its four key elements.
Ecotourism:
is responsible travel to natural areas.
conserves the environment.
sustains the well-being of local people.
involves interpretation and education.
Ecotourism, in industry terms, is not just about leaving no footprints but rather creating a positive change and learning more about the places you visit.
What is my goal as an ler?
I’d like to expand that definition a little further.
To me, should not be restricted to natural areas. Instead, should apply to all travel, whether you’re partying in the heart of Bangkok or trekking the Sahara.
All travel can create a positive impact on the places you visit and the people who live there.
Ecotourism doesn’t have to just take place in nature.
My goal as an ecotourist, and as a human being, is to minimize my negative impact on the environment, while finding ways to increase my positive impact.
more than 1.4 billion
!
With that many people travelling each year, isn’t important — it’s essential.
Tourism can be incredibly damaging to the places you travel and to the planet as a whole. But, it can also be incredibly beneficial.
Imagine the difference between 1.4 billion people causing harm vs 1.4 billion people making incremental improvements. As the tourism industry continues to grow, needs to grow more quickly, to slow down the damage mass tourism is causing around the world.
Saves you money
While some experiences can be more expensive than their environmentally damaging counterparts, on the whole, one of the main personal advantages of is that it can save you money.
For example, we encourage people to take public overland transport, rather than flying from place to place. This simple change reduces the carbon emissions of your trip, increases your cultural immersion, and costs so much less!
We use overland travel by public transport whenever we can.
We also advocate for small, independent hotels, instead of large multi-national conglomerates. Almost always, these privately owned hotels are more conservative in their resource use and have smaller carbon footprints. They are also much more likely to listen to guests’ suggestions for eco-improvement.
And, bonus, they almost always cost much less!
Travel with less guilt
Seeing your travel money have a positive impact is a great way to alleviate “traveller’s guilt” which we all suffer from time to time. Especially when we visit countries with a lower standard of living than our own, it can be easy to feel awful about our staggering wealth and privilege, as compared to the people we are visiting.
By focussing on eco and responsible travel, more of your travel budget helps raise the standard of living for the people most in need.
We also encourage you to commit part of your travel budget to funding local charities when you travel!
Improve your health and happiness
Being in nature can have “significant and wide-ranging health benefits” according to one recent study.
According to a BBC article:
There is already research evidence that exposure to nature can reduce hypertension (abnormally high blood pressure), respiratory tract and cardiovascular illnesses; improve vitality and mood; benefit issues of mental wellbeing such as anxiety; and restore attention capacity and mental fatigue. But more than that, feeling a part of nature has been shown to significantly correlate with life satisfaction, vitality, meaningfulness, happiness, mindfulness, and lower cognitive anxiety.
How nature is good for our health and our happiness, BBC.com
Other studies have concluded the same thing — being in nature increases our feelings of health, well-being, and happiness. Isn’t that really why we want to travel in the first place?
Makes you more eco-aware back home
It’s a natural tendency for humans to notice problems in other countries, states, or regions while ignoring similar problems at home.
For example, Westerners constantly complain about how dirty and polluted it is in Asia.
What they don’t think about is that their own lifestyle — big air-conditioned house, two cars, unlimited international travel — is more damaging to the environment than the lifestyle of most people living in Asia. Not to mention the fact that we outsource a lot of our pollution to the very countries we criticize for being polluted.
The truth is, there are environmental problems everywhere — it’s just that some countries are better at hiding them than others.
Eco travel can motivate you to reduce your carbon footprint once you’re back home. You might look differently at the plastic water bottles you use each day, realize you don’t need to blast the AC quite so high, or start to wonder if driving to work is the best way to get there.
Ecotourism helps open our eyes to the damage we all do to nature on a daily basis and motivates us to consider ways that we can reduce our impact.
Disconnects you from the world of stress
Some eco travel can take you so far from your day-to-day life that you are completely disconnected — in a very good way. If you are dealing with mounds of stress, and the very sight of your email inbox causes your heart to stop, choose an adventure where you won’t be reachable by any mechanism for a while.
Ecotravel can take you far away from the stresses of everyday life.
There are still lots of places where WiFi doesn’t reach (though these are disappearing rapidly). Choose one of those for your escape, or just go CRAZY and leave your device at home.
Some of us still remember a time when going away meant that nobody could contact you unless there was a major emergency. We survived quite nicely then and a digital holiday can be absolutely rejuvenating.
Reconnects you to your most primal self
While you’re spending time wired into nature — and far away from instant news notifications, social media, and WhatsApp messages — something amazing happens.
You start to hear your own thoughts again.
You might even tap into a part of you that has been drowned out for years.
Yup, we’re talking about your most primal self, the thing that makes you you. This part of your heart becomes buried over time with societal expectations, post-trauma armour, and other layers of self-protection.
Ecotourism can be the catalyst that reconnects you to your True Self.
It might sound dramatic (it is!), it might sound cheesy, or even ridiculous — but it’s also true. We can personally vouch for that!
preserving, or even reviving, nature. This is essential, especially in places where locals rely on natural resources, like fish or jungle habitats, to provide for their families.
Helps communities create a sustainable income
In many communities, there is little opportunity for work or income.
Ecotourism can provide a sustainable source of income for locals who were unable to earn a living before. Even if a small percentage of people are employed in the tourism industry, this financial benefit spreads to other people in the community, as those with new tourism-based jobs spend their money locally.
In the Chi Phat eco-village, local kids learned about litter and conservation.
We loved our experience in Chi Phat, Cambodia, where locals who used to earn a living poaching wildlife and illegally logging are now able to thrive with .
Funds social programs
The best providers use some of their income to support local communities and fund social programs. Many providers, both large and small, run schools, provide medical care for locals, educate small business owners, and work for human rights and gender equality.
For example, one of our favourite travel companies, Intrepid Travel, puts resources into social and environmental programs through the Intrepid Foundation.
rescuing wild animals, fighting poaching in a small village, or cleaning up a natural area, the only reason they can afford to do it is because tourists pay to visit.
Ecotourism is an opportunity to learn more about nature and how to protect it.
When you’re booking an activity, remember to ask what the money will be spent on!
Provides funding for scientific research
Studying environmental impacts is vital for improving our understanding of ecosystems and solving problems. Many studies are funded by the dollars that come from eco tourism projects.
Fosters global understanding and world peace
This might be a huge claim, but that doesn’t mean it’s not true.
When is at its best, there is a global exchange of information and understanding.
The more people I meet from around the world, the more I understand that, though we might live very differently, at heart we are all the same. The more we can make cultural exchanges, the less suspicion, fear, and hatred we feel towards each other.
Mount Rinjani in Lombok, or the massive beach erosion we’ve seen in Vietnam, it’s obvious that governments exploit the buzzword but never follow through on their promises.
I worry that, eventually, all of the fragile and beautiful places of the world will be destroyed. Is it better to see them now, before they are gone, or leave them alone in the hopes that they will survive a little longer without me?
Displacement of local people and destruction of indigenous cultures
In the worst examples of gone wrong, entire communities of local people have been moved from their land in order to create opportunities for lers. In these cases, it’s rare for the displaced people to see any economic benefit from tourists.
It’s important to be aware of these issues so you can avoid funding similar projects with your tourism dollars.
Harm to animals
Animal tourism means big money in many popular destinations. People pay to get close to elephants, tigers, primates, whales, dolphins and more. The problem is, it’s often hard to discern between the companies who have the animals’ best interests at heart and those who are just in it for the money.
Ecotourism can help nature while fake can harm wildlife.
Animals are abused every day in the name of tourism (and sometimes ). If you’re not sure about an attraction or company, despite your best efforts at research, the best policy is to stay away.
Bandwagon jumpers with no credibility
As eco travel and booms, the numbers of companies who say all the right things and do nothing also grows. As a tourist, it’s up to you to do your research. Only travel with proven providers or those who are fully credible. If something looks too good to be true, it probably is.
Environmental damage caused by travel
Every time you get on a plane, you cause irreversible harm to the environment. Since destinations are often in exotic far-off places, getting there is half the problem.
The other half is the damage caused by introducing people into fragile environments. Even if groups are small and nobody litters or smuggles out wildlife, sustaining more people uses more resources. Tourists have to be fed, kept warm or cool, provided with clean water and plumbing. All these things degrade the place you’re going to see.
It’s important to weigh these considerations when you decide to travel. Can your positive impact truly outweigh the negative one? If not, can you change your plans to tip the scales?
tips on being a green tourist.
The short version is this:
Just think!
From choosing your destination to booking your flights and hotels to choosing which tour companies to use, always consider what impact your decisions will have.
Being thoughtful and mindful about your travel is the first huge step to improving your ecotourist profile.
Happy mindful adventures, Jane & Stephen

Creation to destruction.
It is said that God created life in 6 days. And has been nurturing it since centuries out of mind and gifted us with the best and named it, Nature. An astonishingly balanced, replete with all needs of every creature. From herbal mountains to fertile plains. With the sun as our powerhouse and the clouds of water as blessings of heaven. Vegetables for our nourishment and fruits for dessert. North Star to guide us and forests to get lost in. Rivers to swim and oceans to drown. Wish for it and one can live it.
Nature has enough to fulfill a man’s need but nothing to fulfill his greed. The sordid boon the man is living with is a consequence of their desire for materials. Fool’s gold has taken the precedence over the wisdom of nature. The glad animal movements are lost in the concrete jungles. The peaceful environment that bore every creature in harmony, is now, out of tune under the noise of industrialization. The environment has met it's alter ego.
The inventions that meant to help the humans are threatening their fellow phylum. The plastic bag that helps to carry the loads are choking the stray. The car that made transportation an ease, has melted the ice caps. Polar bears are losing their habitat. The road that was to bridge the distance has destroyed countless homes.
The environment that was meant to be our home, has been left to decay under the weights of pollutants. And all credits to human intelligence. Hats off to fragile dreams of greedy. And no doubt Hermit’s cave is losing to Burj khalifas.
Its better late than never. The clock is ticking, the time is running out. Make your move now or regret in your grave.
Compensate now or get ready to pay for your sins. Plant trees, be compassionate towards the fellow kingdoms, pour out some water for little Aves and rodents, to nature's environment. Adopt the effective ways to lower down pollution. Choose to carpool. Use CNG technology. Harvest rainwater before every well dries up. Use biodegradable material before land degrades and you run out of space for your own grave.
We are trying to make our environment a better place to live in.
Do your Prayaas as well.

Prayaas Corps- is a Non-Profit Non-Governmental Organization working in the field of Education Sector, Leprosy, Shelter, and Health Care.
With a certain motto to stir and inspire the youth’s mind in schools and colleges for National consciousness and work for the cause of society, this independent student organization was formed in 2013 on the day of 12th January. On the birthday of Swami Vivekananda, Prayaas-India, as it was initially called, comprised of a few students from Amity University Jaipur,
Rajasthan. Under the leadership of Mr. Jaspal Godara, Mr. Manish Sharma and Mr. Aditya Gopal, they took up the initiative of working for the elation of the people of the society in order to create a better future and children who wish to serve our Motherland. Now, after four years and five months since formation, a few membered Prayaas- India
transformed into Prayaas Corps, with volunteers not only active in Jaipur but in cities like Jodhpur, Kota, New Delhi, Jabalpur, Silchar etc and has branches in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan,
New Delhi etc. With more than 500 on the field and social media volunteers from all over the nation, connected through www.prayaascorps.com, Facebook and Instagram pages, the organization has extended its reach to major cities In India in a couple of years. The intense problems prevailing in society, illiteracy, women empowerment, environmental issues, social upliftment, every single aspect has been considered and new ways have been constructed each time to fight the evils. Awareness programmes, education missions, medical camps etc have contributed to eradicate mass suffering and create a healthy and sound society.
Many more years are yet to come. Many more people are yet to be saved. Prayaas Corps has yet to grow and it shall. With numbers of dedicated volunteers increasing, it sure is meant to create a huge difference in society.
Our Work and Initiatives
● Shiksha Mission- Shiksha Mission is one of the most drastic and superlative initiatives of Prayaas Corps. Realizing the hollowness of the Indian education system, volunteers took a major step in educating children in nearby government schools which lacks to provide children a fundamental education. Children are taught after school, not only the syllabi but co-curricular activities too. Shiksha Mission received an overwhelming response from villagers who were reluctant to give their children a proper education as well as from children who were interested to learn and adopt new skills and learnings.
● Leprosy Event-
There exists a misconception among people of our country regarding Leprosy. Discarding such baseless concepts and to give those people hope of life, volunteers celebrate World Leprosy
Day and Republic Day every year with Leprosy contracted people of Indra Kushta Ashram. Apart from providing them food and delicacies, educational and entertainment events also organized to show them that they are too, a part of this society and country. They are encouraged to study, to learn and never lose hope so that someday they might become dutiful citizens.
● Raahat- A gift of warmth-
Northern India is one of such part of our country which, each year, witnesses extreme winters.
Well to do thrive, the poor and the needy suffer. It is through Raahat the volunteers carry out a large-scale blanket and warm cloth distribution to the needy and poor to help them sustain the extreme cold. The event is conducted in two parts. In the first part, people in Old Age Homes are being donated blankets and in the next phase, needy people on streets are being provided with clothes and blankets. Through years, the growth has been substantial.
● Environmental Issues-
Volunteers of Prayaas Corps have taken steps for environmental protection as well. Organising plantation drives, providing food and water in hanging pitchers for the birds in summer and cleanliness drives under Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan have been the major events which reflect the organization’s sustainable perspective towards our environment.
These events received huge accolades as support increased.
● Health Care-
With growing support and volunteers, Prayaas Corps in association with many hospitals have organized medical camps and blood donation events. This helped in several ways.
Blood donation cards helped volunteers to donate blood to the one in need whenever necessary. It too gave an opportunity for many people to save as many lives by donating their blood. Health camps are too being organized in villages with poor medical facilities. Doctors treat villagers free of cost providing quality medicines and treatment.

Technology Acceleration

Technology is a GOOD THING. Well, most of the time it is.
I’m sure you’ve seen articles bemoaning the NEGATIVE role that technology advancement has played in our lives. I have recently joined the ranks of those doing the bemoaning.
GADGETS ARE GREAT
Don’t get me wrong—I’m a tech guy through and through. I’ve chosen to work in the technology industry for 20 years, and I love gadgets as well as the next guy. I’ve got TIVO, a laptop, a cell phone, Wi-Fi, all the standard Hi-Tech fare. I’m an email fanatic. With great anticipation I’m eyeing Home Theater equipment; just waiting for prices to drop a little more and for standards to settle a bit. I love many of the things that technology does to enrich our personal lives, and embrace the productivity improvements that it brings to doing business. And I believe that those who create new technologies and products ALMOST ALWAYS have good intentions, from a societal perspective.
THE LAW OF UNINTENDED CONSEQUENCES
But I also believe that the law of unintended consequences is alive and thriving in the technology marketplace. In creating products and services that didn’t previously exist in our world, the good is sometimes offset (and occasionally overwhelmed) by effects on the negative side of the ledger.
Take automobiles, for example. Certainly cars are no longer an example of new technology. But at the turn of the century, they represented one of the greatest leaps forward in technology, and have had wide-ranging, positive societal effects. Autos provided a completely different level of personal mobility, with too many positive effects on our daily lives to list. For businesses, the enhanced business productivity was so enormous that it not only lowered costs, but also allowed totally new businesses to be conceived. Autos and the internal combustion engine that enabled them are truly among the great inventions of all time.
However, do you think the inventors or the internal combustion engine and the automobile had the foresight to envision the amount of pollution this invention has ultimately created? Not to mention the greenhouse gas effect, that is actually causing significant warming to our global climate, with potentially devastating consequences?
Of course, they couldn’t. I think this should cause those of us in the technology biz to pause and reflect a bit.
NEGATIVES WITH POSITIVES
There are many more innovations that one could list having major negatives associated with great leaps forward. Cell Phones are another such example. They have provided a leap forward in society that while not quite as profound as automobiles, approaches the same level. They’ve provided great productivity gains for businesses, and have allowed us to stay connected in our personal lives like never before. But haven’t they also contributed negatively to our ability to get away, relax, and enjoy some uninterrupted privacy? I feel this has been a big negative for society, and it’s one of those steps that probably can’t be undone.
I think even the most driven Type A’s among us believe that human beings need at least SOME time to recharge our batteries. Just to get away from it all and relax. Technological advancements have connected us to the extent that it’s very hard to do that. You used to be able to take a vacation or a day off, and honestly say you didn’t have a phone or an Internet connection available. If you say that now, people might begin to question your veracity. It’s possible to be connected nearly everywhere—as a result, it becomes less acceptable than ever be “disconnected”.
This leads to the biggest complaint I have about the unintended consequences of the technology revolution:
The general speeding up of our lives.
I’m exhausted–I’ll bet you are too For context, most people would consider me a type A personality. So this isn’t the complaint of some mellow, laid-back surfer dude. I generally embrace a fast paced life, and particularly enjoy the ability to make progress in business in a rapid-fire matter. But honesty compels me to admit that, at times, the pace of modern life even overwhelms me.
I live out the most gnawing example of this “Acceleration” of our lives every day on the freeways of Southern California. I live in San Diego, which granted is a big city. And big city traffic has, of course, never been much fun. But San Diego isn’t New York or Paris by any stretch of the imagination, when it comes to congestion, or the attitudes of the locals. So I don’t think I’m reaching for the extreme here.
Compared to even 10-15 years ago, life on the freeways has become hell. I am a pretty fast driver, but on the freeway, it’s never fast enough. No matter how fast you want to go, there is always someone coming fast upon you—tailgating and itching to get past you. And it isn’t enough to just get around you. The guys in the BMW 3 series have to accelerate and weave in and out of traffic like it’s the 20th lap at LeMans.
Those guys have always existed on the highway, you say. And you’re right. But the lack of common sense and courtesy seems to have spread throughout the driver-sphere like a bad flu. These days, you try to move into a lane in front of a soccer mom in a huge SUV at your own peril. She may be toting two kids in the back, and of course is talking on her cell phone (those cell phones again!). But she’s also caught that LeMans mentality, and no way she’s going to intentionally concede that position—let alone the extra ten feet of highway to a “competitor”.
I find it especially ironic how the technology acceleration has made other pieces of useful technology obsolete. My favorite is how the speedup on the freeways has eliminated the need for what was once an essential piece of safety technology for drivers: the indicator. It no longer serves a useful purpose on the road. Should you put your indicator on before changing lanes in front of that soccer mom? Ten years ago you certainly should have. But 2005 soccer mom puts the pedal to the medal and cuts you off to prevent you from “moving up a spot” in the unofficial Freeway LeMans. These days, using this once essential technology now only “indicates” to everyone else that it’s time speed up to prevent you from making that lane change! God forbid you need to get to that lane to exit the highway; that next exit better suffice if you don’t want to risk a crash. Soccer moms don’t glare at you menacingly while doing while cutting you off like the guys in the BMW 3 series will, but the effect is just the same. It’s a jungle out there.
So what’s the takeaway to this rant?
CAN DOWNTIME MAKE A COMEBACK
Once again, I believe that the law of unintended consequences is hard at work. There is a big market being created that while not completely ignored, is underserved. That’s the market for enabling our lives to slow back down. Don’t misunderstand. I don’t mean “giving us more time in the day”. That time generated by productivity-enhancing devices seems to just fill back up with more frenetic activity. I mean actually slowing us down, so we can re-charge to sprint another day. This might be a difficult concept for companies to get their arms around, so that they can create new products and services to capitalize on it. But business formation and product creation around this theme would be really revolutionary, and potentially very rewarding.
So the next time you’re sitting on the side of the road with a flat tire—and a dead cell phone battery— write me a note. Assuming your wireless Internet connection is still up. I’d love to get your thoughts.
