kara danvers :)
ok well you and i have discussed this at length so this will not be new to you but imco (in my correct opinion) kara danvers [as portrayed by the cw's supergirl, not necessarily in other versions] is actually pretty lazy, and i would argue this is one of her most central and consistent character traits. and i don't just mean physically lazy, although i should note that per 3.17 "trinity" she canonically Hates Walking and doesn't understand why humans exercise. i mostly mean on an intellectual & moral level.
kara wants to be a reporter, but when she figures this out (because......a pretty lady told her she should do it? ig?), she does not apply to journalism school, or take online classes. instead she is handed a reporter job by her boss (who scrawled 'reporter' on her hilariously terrible resume when they met for reasons known only to her) and from then on proceeds to basically just do whatever she wants and get offended when more seasoned reporters who have gone to journalism school ask her to do basic functions of the job like Acquire Sources and Report On The Facts And Not Just Your Personal Opinions. at no point do we really see her ask her colleagues, even friendly ones like james, for advice or help; instead, advice is something that's imposed upon her by the wicked snapper, who dares to be unimpressed by her uneducated slay. throughout the show, on multiple occasions, the idea of actually Doing Her Job seems to offend her -- lena even calls her out for this explicitly in 3.02 "triggers," but she continues to display this behavior with andrea in s5 & s6. in the finale, when she is promoted to editor-in-chief in an act of blatant cronyism that truthfully should prompt the entire catco staff to quit in protest, it is not on her initiative, nor due to her efforts, nor is it because anything about the position has piqued her interest; it is, again, simply handed to her, and she just accepts.
additionally, we rarely see her express meaningful curiosity about, well, any subject, really -- we know she learned calculus young, but her interest in math and science seems nil; she is deeply naive about the u.s. justice system in s6 in a way that suggests she has never looked into it, though her own mother was a judge on krypton; and a lot of her interests seem very Basic (pizza, potstickers [? why girl.], nsync, the wizard of oz, harry potter), which to be clear is not inherently a sign of intellectual laziness or incuriosity, but it also does nothing to suggest that she is someone with a wide knowledge of food, literature, music, or film.
she also demonstrates what i would argue is a kind of moral laziness, though you could call it an offshoot of her intellectual laziness, in her general lack of real self-reflection about, like, any of her actions. although some of the other characters sometimes bring up how messed-up the DEO is (e.g. james in s1 with the gitmo comparison -- which, CRAZY line to put in your show and then never address, btw), kara herself does not question it (until the Wrong People take over, of course). her rhetoric in early s2 about daxamites suggests that she is quite comfortable believing sweeping generalizations she was taught as a child and has never really sat down to interrogate them, but while mon-el being.....pretty bad but i guess not as bad as his mom? yay? inspires her to stop being bigoted against daxamites specifically, we will later still hear her say that certain species tend to be peaceful or aggressive, etc., with no self-reflection. in 3.05 "damage," when morgan edge tries to make it seem like lena's lead dispersal device that kara activated poisoned children, kara does not take the opportunity to self-reflect on the choice she made and whether it was worth it; instead, her arc for the episode is reacting emotionally to her best buddy feeling guilty (about the thing kara also did. i cannot emphasize that part enough).
i would argue the conclusion she draws in 5.13, too, smacks of this moral laziness; she spends the episode looking for a magic shortcut to not having to feel bad anymore, and when she can't find one, she decides that actually, meh, there was never a perfect way for things to go down, so all that lying wasn't such a big deal and lena should just get over it. kara is dripping with a lot of guilt in 5A, but throughout both 5A and 5B there's very little actual, thoughtful self-reflection on what she did wrong and why, and that carries over into S6 when, after like ten episodes of lena (and also william ig) repeatedly trying to tell her not to play god, she decides in the very penultimate episode to solve her problems by eating the sun, and then when she decides against it partway through doing it, there's again very little self-reflection on her part of why the hell she thought that was a good thing to do. kara's morality, on the whole, seems largely based on (a) alex and (b) vibes, and not so much on any actual thought she's dedicated to the moral questions at hand.
and similarly to when kara is asked to Do Her Damn Job at her place of work -- when kara is challenged on her morality (like when lena challenges her on the kryptonite in s3, or on myriad in 5.17), she acts annoyed at the very idea of having to do the hard work of thinking about the morals she espouses as a superhero. and it doesn't read as someone who has thought very hard about her moral choices and is offended because she believes so strongly that she's right, because we never actually see her thinking hard about these moral choices she makes at all. it reads as someone who hasn't thought about it beyond a very cursory level and is frustrated that she's being asked to. because, again, she's just fundamentally kind of lazy.
and the thing is this might sound like i am dunking on her but actually i think this is a trait that is incredibly funny. my favorite portrayal of supergirl/kara danvers is the one from the children's cartoon dc super hero girls 2019, whose version of kara is ALSO lazy, on top of being an aggressive, quick-to-anger, rude, irresponsible, selfish brat. and she's hilarious in that show, she's one of my favorite characters. another favorite character of mine, also a children's cartoon character, is anne boonchuy from amphibia, whose entire character journey is about learning not to be physically, intellectually, or morally lazy and learning to [school principal voice] Apply Herself instead. it can be incredibly fun to watch characters be lazy and incurious and self-centered, whether they change for the better or not. but it is a bit strange that some people act like kara is this super disciplined person who loves working out and loves learning and reads widely and is curious about everything and self-reflects on her own decisions and how she affects others to the point of obsession. i wonder if part of it is 'femslash same-character syndrome,' where people slap other characters' traits from other popular femslash ships onto each other. because the character i just described is adora from she-ra. who a lot of people think is similar to kara. except no. she's not at all. as evidenced by this whole write-up ☝️ lol. they're just both blonde and for some reason (#blondephobia?) femslash fandoms wanna act like all blonde girlies are the same. but they are not. #wakeupamerica.....
#so anyway that's my extremely correct yet mysteriously unpopular opinion 😁 read it and weep.....#up up and away#sideguitars

It had been a long, long time since Zach had felt like this. Like there was a reason for him to go from one room to the next. In fact, perhaps he’d never. Not clear-headed, not like he was now. Excitement, anticipation, real, true fucking adrenaline. He had been forced to reassess his relationship to bad behavior over the years. Where it had once been his lifeline, now it was only a rare indulgence. The feeling of leaning into mischief watered the dry bed behind his ribs. He hadn’t realized exactly how parched he’d been. How desperate. Once, he would’ve made Luke suffer for showing his face in an obvious, bloody way. Now, he’d do it slowly. He’d make it subtle. Fun. As the crowd began to filter into the dim, throbbing lounge area, Zach followed, one step behind Kylie, the environment unfurling him like a flower in bloom. His chest inflated. He belonged here. Something felt like it was beginning.
The flow of people came between him and Alex; as she ebbed one way, he ebbed another. Though he felt compelled to be close to her, to scratch at her surface until something gave, he suspected she may not be feeling the same. He wasn’t dissuaded, however. Only exercising patience. Whatever she felt tangled up over, he could untangle, with one easy pull. Because he hadn’t addressed this pre-existing qualm in a long time — the fact of she and Luke, together. But now he stared it in the face, it didn’t bother him. The fact of it was this: Zach was sure he could, and determined to, splinter Alex’s engagement down the middle. Luke could not. Luke was but a flint flying off he and Alex’s wildfire. He felt that niggle between them, years later; their insatiability. Knowing she had had Luke only made him more certain of his crowning in her life. Nobody could touch him. Nobody could even come close.
He had let go of a lot of things. But how could he be Zach Winthrop without a little arrogance? It both incensed and attracted her, he knew this. He would wear his jilted crown with pride. But she needed time to cool off, and they needed to not be seen to be attached at the hip so as to avoid raised eyebrows. So he didn’t look for her, not right away. He followed Kylie’s heavy heels into a plush booth, not unlike the thousands he’d decorated in a past life, but this crowd was different. Her crowd were frothy, excitable. Over-indulgent in their alcohol to a virginal effect. The champagne bubbles made them giggle and a sideward glance from him made them blush, hide behind their hands. It was nothing like the throng of debauched prodigals he used to be surrounded with. He let them fawn over him, and so did Kylie. He suspected she rather liked it, even. While her head was turned, one of her friends handed him a drink, which he took without particularly reasoning it through.
He blinked at it. It would be his second of the night, but enough time had passed that he already felt sober from the first. His lip quirked. “Thank you,” he eased, and she shrank away like a violet. It was acidic on his tongue, burning on the way down. He made a noise like a release, shuddering with pleasure, then eyed the umbrella cocktail glass. Vodka martini, dirty as hell. Perhaps it was only a placebo effect, but it went to his head immediately. His neck craned from his lazy gait upon the sofa, finally scouting out the familiar, devastating brunette and her rosebud mouth. Then he realized that she, flanked by several bird-boned women at the bar, was notably fiancéless.
Zach excused himself, stalking across the room and avoiding the vying eyes, the wanting outstretched hands, until a thump on his shoulder demanded to be seen to. But, somewhere in his riddled mind, he must have been anticipating the interruption, as he didn’t flinch. Without breaking stride, Luke fell into step with him; these two megalomaniacal giants, simply playing house. “Thought you might’ve leaned across that table to carve a chunk out of me, man. But we must be good. Right?” It was delivered unpleasantly. It was not a peace offering, it was low-hanging fruit. Luke laughed, sarcastic and dry. “We’re good?” Zach’s lip curled, vaguely amused by it all, gaze seeking out Alex distractedly. He watched her, fixed with the hook of her shoulder, throat. Her jaw, her smile. For a moment, he forgot to answer.
“Zach,” Luke demanded his attention. Zach stopped dead, rounding on him, an untrustworthy smile stretching out his healthy face. In Zach’s mind, Luke’s intentions were clear and decipherable; use the leverage he had to throw Zach off-kilter, blackmail him into working together again, Luke climbs up the ladder Zach falls off. Well, no. Absolutely not. Zach’s hands smacked either of Luke’s shoulders as though pushing on an accordion to make it screech. They regarded each other squarely. To his credit, Luke didn’t falter. “We’re good, Luke,” Zach lied easily. His right hand came away, only to come back down a little harder than totally friendly. “We’re fucking fantastic.” Luke’s eye twitched. A memory flickered in the back of Zach’s mind – Sarah. If nothing else mattered, to Luke, she did. And Zach had taken her away. Perhaps all of this was really just a revenge plot. How far away she seemed now, and how huge of a mistake it had been to destroy one of the last real friendships he’d had. But he had no room for regret. He only had space in his brain for one thing — or rather, one woman.
“Enjoy the party,” Zach encouraged dismissively, twisting away. He was unaware how closely Luke trailed behind him as he approached Alex at the bar. So as not to rouse suspicion, he disguised his intent by leaning upon the bartop as though summoning a bartender. His eyes, cut with devilry, found hers. Under the light, he was perfect. An unimpeachable diamond. The corner of his mouth upturned. “So,” he muttered privately, allowing the now-flustered group around her to go on their faux-prattling, as though his presence wasn’t very reason to stop everything dead. Their carrying-on fizzed overtop his voice, their insistence his being around them was normal to appear cool overriding their need to fuss him. “You wanna talk about how nervous you just got back at the dinner table?” he taunted in a low voice, eyes on the approaching bartender, as though nothing were amiss in the whole world.
If there was one thing Zach had never been discomfited doing, it was making others uncomfortable. He sat assuredly in his roiling silence, the tingeing cheeks and squirming bodies of those around him waiting impatiently for his response ineffective in swaying his strange composure. He and Luke locked eyes for more than a few bloated, lumbering moments of wordlessness. What is it he wanted? Likely what he’d always wanted; a shot at being even half of Zach. And leeching from Zach was the only way he’d ever tasted an ounce of that success. Zach’s jaw feathered; a lifetime’s worth of history curled from the disturbed seabed of the muddy water between them. Last they had seen one another, it had been brutal; perhaps the most visceral display of Zach’s own torment he’d ever elicited unto himself. Because that’s what it had been – they’d both known it. It could have been about Alex, his guilt, (and a lot of it was), or it could have been about Sarah. It could have been about their near decade-long toxicity, their constant competition, their hatred for themselves projected onto one another. Their mirror-image, their dichotomy. How it had all eventually imploded exactly as prophecy would have it written.
But Zach had changed a lot since then. Violence no longer twitched urgently at his fingertips, ever-present and awaiting trigger. His anger had not lessened in weight but had grown patient and cool, buried under a layer of apathy. Something wriggled beneath it all, seeing Luke again. Seeing him only a body away from Alex, who he yearned for so pathetically. Zach wasn’t sure what it was. Yet. Luke endeavoured to break the silence, his facade brilliant. Charming, even. But as he spoke, his painted fingertips ran slowly, intentionally, along his mangled knuckles. It was fucking bold, Zach would give him that. Unfamiliar ink curdled above the scarring, giving his fingers the eerie look of a rotten tree. Unwittingly, Zach’s tongue snaked out, nudging carefully at the scar on his top lip. A perfect ghost of flesh split open between fist and tooth. Then he smiled; broad, brilliant, a superstar. He could almost feel the terse nature of their onlookers unravelling. “You too, man,” he greeted easily, getting to his feet with his hands upon the tablecloth. He leaned slightly, extending his hand. Luke eyed it, likely having anticipated a response worthy of the old Zach, but the hesitation was only brief enough for those in the know to clock it; they shook, firmly.
Up close, the damage was crystal clear; his nose now displayed a sharp crook, and a thick, tangled rope of a scar drove right down from his forehead through his eyebrow. Blonde, gelled hair hung around them like a show curtain. Zach’s eyes sparkled, a foreign, forgotten feeling soaring through him of gross pride. He used his free hand to thump Luke jovially on the shoulder and watched as his body ricocheted with the movement. “Third time’s the charm,” he muttered happily, referring to Luke’s repeated attempts at sky-rocketing his career. Luke grunted, his smile waning as they dropped one another’s hands. “Hi,” Kylie chirped from her seat. Zach almost laughed. How little she knew of his life, really. She'd never asked who delivered the assault unto Zach that day – had never possessed the gall, couldn't face the inevitable rejection. Luke’s eyes slid beyond Zach to the bubbling froth of a pop star. His eyebrows raised. Zach showed no sign of rising to it. Instead, he took the opportunity to gaze down at Alex, her rigid spine and lithe fingers white-knuckling into a small fist. She was beautiful, in her silent, almost invisible mess. He felt electric-charged, a little crazy, recognizing the signs of anxiety. Of fear. For some reason, it all only made him want her more. His lip twitched in a tiny, frenzied smile, just for her. “Right, then,” Andrew interrupted, capturing the attention of the room at large. His wide palm gestured to the adjoining room; lights danced from the corridor, music thudding. “Shall we move onto the fun part of the evening?”
#para#i kind of have luke in the wings rn ready to have him interrupt#but know that when he does#it will trigger zach into taking them somewhere private#so we must time it right (meditation emoji)

also it is really funny even with the chantry basically removed from the game it still gets handled with more care and respect than any of the other religions, the fact that you get so many options to comfort the andrastians when it's revealed their maker may not be real, and you can even pray at the temple later with the viper after minrathous is attacked... every character is just assumed andrastian, and if they're not it's always used against them in some way (dalish elves are repeatedly punished in these games simply for being dalish and are depicted as being foolish for wanting to connect with their gods and culture instead of assimilating and "moving on from the past") it's always amused me in that way even when trying to be critical of the chantry, the writers still manage to always grant it and the andrastians so much grace because of their real world bias (white + culturally christian) and the obvious real world inspiration for andrastianism. even with it's absence in veilguard it's still There in more subtle and even insidious ways given that all blame is placed on the evanuris instead.
#characters like harding and sebastian and aveline and cassandra all get kinda elevated in game because theyre andrastian#even if harding turns to the stone towards the end it doesn't change that fact#sebastian lectures fenris on having faith and insisting it was the maker that freed him from danarius which is an insane thing to say#and extremely inappropriate but again sebastian is given way more grace to be awful w/o the game allowing u to challenge him#versus like. being able to tell anders to basically kill himself LOL and fenris you can say pretty horrible shit arguing with him#and harding in veilguard you literally Cannot challenge her at all ever. only niceys#versus bellara who is made to feel guilty and is punished a second time with the death of her brother#merrill and velanna are also punished in previous games#bad templars are always depicted as lone wolves like sir alrik#but then when you go talk to cullen he actually agrees with his ideas and then we just never address it again lol#somehow cullen does a complete 180 between games and we never get to really see that but again he is granted way more grace#and all his past wrongs forgiven#he has faith and also now he's nice and hot so who cares!#da posting#datv critical

hate when i see a youtube video that's like 'analyzing why [thing] is bad!' and you watch the video and they just say nothing for twenty minutes
#random thoughts#watched a video on why a specific character was poor representation for survivors of assault#and it was such a nothing burger of a video#'this character is bad because children might see them and think their behavior is okay' okay?#i learned how to block out memories from finn adventure time but that doesn't mean memory suppression shouldn't be addressed in media#plus hazbin hotel. i'm talking about angel dust btw if that wasn't blaringly obvious. is an adult cartoon. for adults#adult cartoons shouldn't have to restrict their subject matter because kids could see it#and angel dust being a male queer SA victim using hypersexuality as a coping mechanism could be good!#and the fact he hits on other people despite it making them uncomfortable isn't exactly a problem a la his character?#it could be a control thing. i used to do something similar (pushing other people's boundaries and complaining when they pushed back)#because it made me feel some kind of control over my life#it could start off as a really shitty joke and then grow into 'oh god is that why he does that??'#but anyway their second main point was that the songs were bad? and that poison being an upbeat song makes it bad#like despite listing many other songs which are upbeat with heavy lyrics. but somehow poison is the exception because it's a cartoon?#like again that could be a character thing. angel dust using obfuscation as a coping mechanism to distract himself from his shitty life.#。・゚゚・the lyrics are upbeat to distract you from how dead i feel inside・゚゚・。#and their reading of the second song seemed really mean-spirited?#like as 'everyone has problems so you're not special because you're a whiny baby' rather than 'you're not as alone as you think you are'#and like if op wanted to just complain about a show they watched then yeah go off i do that all the time#but don't parade it as character analysis???#and they say 'oh reading it as a feelgood you're not alone message doesn't work because these characters' struggles are not equal'#but like. sometimes rape needs to feel like it's not some special trauma. it's not unique and you're not uniquely fucked up for it#two characters' traumas don't need to be directly comparable for them to bond!!!#and im not like. defending hazbin hotel btw. never seen it not going to see it no thanks#i'm just complaining about a mediocre youtube video that i'm going to forget about in a week#god i hate that brand of youtube video. where they just complain about things without going into depth about why they're bad#especially if their complaints are shallow and don't have to do with like. the actual structure of a character or story#like it's so easy to say 'this character is bad because theyre a predatory stereotype' but like. go into some depth at least#i think i hate these videos so much because they're fueled purely by hate. no love for the source material or even a desire to learn#or a love for storytelling even

every day I am in Agony over the fact that widomauk is the first kiss of the campaign, Caleb kissed Molly back in the very end, the literal last scene between King and Caleb is them flirting and King is still so utterly enamored with his Magician, and I just wish...there was any mention of those feelings in the wrap up or a q and a or anything. Absolutely begging Taliesin to tell us what Molly/King feels for Caleb--why he chose to make King's last moments on screen him being explicitly attracted to Caleb, and whether we will ever get to see him revisit those feelings one day...
#widomauk#it just. makes me so sad#i want to hear taliesin talk about king's feelings so bad. what caleb meant to him. why he went with That as his final scene in the campaig#and i feel like we've gotten to hear liam talk so much about caleb's unrequited feelings for jes and things like that and I just...wish#we got some sort of conversation like that from tal or liam#also the 'CALEB. SOFTNESS AND LIGHT' COMMENT THAT MOLLY HAS ABOUT HIM IN THE NOVEL. OR THE FACT LUCIEN#AND KING AND MOLLY HAVE ALL FLIRTED WITH CALEB AT SOME POINT--#caleb being the person who fought the hardest to get molly back in that final fight. how he kept reaching for him and breaking through#lucien's control#and what that means--#i dont know if i should feel silly or ridiculous for hoping we get to see taliesin address those feelings one day#but like...maybe this ship just hits different from someone who watched early c2 live and the way this ship was treated then#the episode right before molly died being so full of little adorable moments between the two. all the potential#seeing them get the first kiss of the campaign#matt even making their little minis kiss--#all the missed potential and loose ends and the feelings they never got to share#would give anything to hear taliesin talk about everything king still feels for the nein#but especially his magic man ;; —

I have, a genuine question for you. Do you acknowledge the racism in the original AYTD or at least know about it? Like how MsKingBean uses slurs and racist stereotypes?
hey, so, i'm a bit apprehensive about answering this because...it doesn't feel like a very geniune question to me, if i'm being honest. "do you acknowledge x thing" is a question that is inherently set up so that i'm meant to answer "yes, i acknowledge that x thing is true," because the alternative is saying "no, i don't acknowledge that x thing is true," which is already framing this interaction as if to disagree with you would be a kind of failure on my part to do some due diligence of engaging critically with a text. and the fact that you say mskingbean89 used slurs in atyd shows me that you haven't even engaged with the text, because that simply...isn't true.
if what you're referring to when you say "slurs" is the anti-romani stereotypes--this is coming from an extra chapter in the bootleg tapes focusing on greyback, where there is a slur used to describe his living situation + he + his family were portrayed as nomadic irish people in a way that was insensitive. people who read that chapter and then went back to the canon story with that characterization in mind rightfully pointed out that it was fucked-up. mskingbean89 addressed those criticisms by adding this note to the beginning of that bootleg chapter:
personally, i think this was a good way to take accountability + acknowledge the mistakes she made with that portrayal. she was a human being who made an ignorant mistake, which then just happened to get absolutely blasted to millions of people--she did not have sensitivity readers or editors looking over her fanfiction, because she did not write it expecting it to reach the level of popularity that it has. to be honest, i am not really sure how she could have better acknowledged her mistake, aside from just....not having made it in the first place. she explains her intentions without acting as though that intent cancels out harm, owns up to the fact that the stereotyping was harmful regardless of intention, and provides resources to learn while also committing to be more mindful + educate herself moving forward. honestly, that's exactly the response i would hope to see from someone who makes a mistake like this one.
i agree with you that people reading atyd should acknowledge + understand the racism regarding romani stereotypes stemming from that bootleg chapter, which is why i think it's great that there is a note literally built into the beginning of that chapter acknowledging it! but i feel as though there's been this like...game of telephone happening online when it comes to atyd, where there are now people who have never even read the story talking about things that quite literally do not appear in the base text itself. i've also seen people acting as though mkb herself did not address these issues when they were raised to her, which is just...patently false.
and so what i'm wondering here is what you're looking for from me when you ask a question like "do you acknowledge the racism in atyd." anyone who actually reads the texts has to acknowledge the racism in that bootleg chapter, because mkb puts that acknowledgment front and center at the beginning. and also like...in the part of the fandom i'm in, in the conversations i've listened to or taken part of regarding atyd, people have acknowledged the issues with that bootleg chapter and the ways it reflects back on the main story. so what do you mean by "acknowledge" when so many people, including mkb herself, have already... acknowledged it? what action are you calling for, and who are you calling for it from?
because like. if what u actually want to say here is that atyd is Irredeemably Problematic and we should all like....shun it? universally agree that it's Bad? then it's just like. it is up to each individual reading the story to decide whether that specific portrayal of greyback in the bootleg chapters is something that ruins the story completely for them or whether they still think the story as a whole holds worth. personally, i feel like i can acknowledge that there are issues with mkb's portrayal of greyback and i need to be mindful of that when reading the story so as not to internalize harmful stereotypes while still finding atyd to be a masterpiece that really beautifully deals with a lot of nuanced issues regarding class and disability and systems of power. this is just part of thinking critically when you read; many famous and beloved works of fiction contain the biases of their authors or have mistakes or issues in the way they portray things that are a product of ignorance. and i know everyone reading marauders fanfiction should understand this, because if u genuinely think that a character being negatively stereotyped means u should throw the entire work in the trash, then none of u would be touching harry potter fanfiction with a five foot pole in the first place.
so, anon - if you have actually read atyd, and there are issues with racism that you have found that i am unaware of, and not just telephone-game twitter posts of people taking shit out of context that you're accepting as truth without bothering to engage with the work yourself--if you want to have a real conversation about it, i would invite you to come to me as an actual person and not an anonymous ghost in my inbox. my dms are open, but when it comes to talking about serious issues, i tend to find it more genuine if the person coming to me actually cares enough and believes in what they're saying enough to say it as themself. and if you haven't read atyd and are just parroting things you've heard other people say online then i would invite you to actually sit down and read the work and form your own opinions on it before getting back to me. i know that might sound harsh, but honestly i'm just completely fed-up at this point with all the bad-faith takes and misinformation that i've seen people spreading about atyd just because they think it's cool to dislike a popular thing.
#mkb is literally a human being who never intended for her story to get as popular as it has#i think the people who villainize her for likes on their twitter posts seem to forget that#and i'm not going to take part in some sort of smear campaign being run by people who brag about not even having read the story#i'm happy to acknowledge issues i find in a work. but i typically do that privately. in conversations with other people who have read it#because as i have said a million times there is never a reason for publicly shitting on fics regardless of how popular they get#it's not like mkb is profiting in any way from her story. in fact she has literally had to deal with awful harassment#and most of the 'critiques' i see about atyd are either bad-faith criticism or things that literally are not true. so!!#here's ur acknowledgment anon but if what ur looking for is for me to condemn mkb....sorry but that's not happening#i love atyd and think it's an amazing work of fiction. and i think mkb did a beautiful job exploring + portraying#many nuanced + sensitive issues. if u read the work and feel differently that's fine!#but that doesn't change the fact that it's fanfic....and that u should address any problems u have with it with fic etiquette in mind#ask#ranting and raving

German leftists are so incapable of separating Judaism and Israel that their heads practically explode when Israel does something bad, and then they end up stickering over a sticker than just says ‘free Palestine’ with a fucked up sticker saying ‘antifa means supporting Israel’ and think they’re somehow still leftist.
Like imagine your supposed principles being so malleable and your critical thinking so lacking that when a notably really right wing government commits genocide you have to pretend that’s compatible with antifascism because you can’t conceive of Israel as separate to Judaism.
#like normally it is really very obvious that conflating Judaism and Israel is in fact antisemitic#but this situation proves that they never actually believed that#which is y’know. a notable element of German antisemitism.#(that Germans pretend doesn’t exist.)#(by which I mean they pretend German antisemitism doesn’t exist)#they pretend it’s a) only the afd b) those damn Muslims importing it#that’s it.#they can’t even confront their own antisemitism and thus certainly can’t even begin to address it#just send more weapons to Israel and don’t think about things#Barf barf barf barf barf#idk it’s almost like bc there’s a very obvious opponent in the AFD#German antifa just haven’t had to think critically about like… anything.#so when an issue isn’t ’protest the AFD’ they just don’t know what to do#and I think some of them are genuinely so ignorant that if they afd said solar power was good#they would immediately start protesting against solar power and calling it fascist#they’re THAT fucking bad#not all blah blah blah#sure some are prepared to go against the others#but at the IWD protest I went to it was really fucking notable that everyone who mentioned solidarity w/ Palestinian women in their speech#spoke German with the accents of other languages.

every time i so much as think about that scene where light looks at porn magazines while scowling i go into hysterics its genuinely the funniest thing i've ever seen
#the funniest thing is is that i truly believe he thought he was being 100% convincing. that that's normal behavior for a completely straight#completely allosexual man#light is fucking awful and i hate him but also there's nuance to him. and sometimes i can get a little like. oh thinking about his life#before the series. specifically factoring in my headcanons about him being gay aroace and autistic and stuff. ppl have written some rlly#good fics surrounding those topics.... but yeah thats not even canon stuff but i dont care#anyways its not in a way of making excuses for how he is i just think it adds more to his character#hes total garbage but i think theres really interesting stuff with him when it comes to how he's.... VERY disconnected from others#just in general. he's like aware of how to act ''normal'' on like the most textbook surface level without being like. Aware enough to#be able to make it more convincing. and as ridiculous as it is i do see some of myself in him in that sense#also that person who said light and L is just autistic guy who's been masking his entire life vs autistic guy who's never masked in his#entire life. LITERALLY EXACTLY. genuinely perfect way to describe them they are both so similar when it comes to this#but the ways they go about it are very different. light has been playing the part of the perfect son his whole life. L doesnt try to change#himself for anyone and doesnt care when people think hes weird. both of them arent very socially aware and havent had any real friends#their whole lives. its such a fascinating parallel between them#i could go on a whole fucking thing about how light was pretending to be someone he's not around his family and at school and everything#long before he got the death note BUT. i wont. at least not right now#jesus christ how did i go from laughing about him with the magazine to this. my bad#derailed my own damn post. idk swagever#will say rq tho. watched a vid on youtube that pointed out how light expected his family to think nothing of the fact that he's gone to#such drastic measures to hide his diary when making the plan with hiding the death note which is like#that level of dedication would NOT be normal. so the fact that light expects his family to think nothing of it......#i mean you could read that as light just once again being socially unaware. but it could also imply that light's family kind of Knows#he's hiding something and just doesn't address it. (he's gay. im talking about him being gay)#the video also referenced this comic that i didnt rb cause the actual premise of it (lawlight wedding) is um.#not at all my kind of thing. BUT it was light describing himself as a house with a basement when his family sees him as a one story house#and i thought that was such a cool analogy#ANYWAYYYSSSS i need to go to bed. thanks if you read my ramblings#serena.txt#death note posting#infizero.analysis

See the further irony is:
That in using 'Mall Goth Sauron' as the take on Dark Willow over 'misogynist has character randomly killed for LULZ' it also allows for greater accountability on the one hand and for Season 7 to thematically focus on repairing all this damage in the midst of facing an enemy of shadows reliant on lies to further itself. The only way to break the Druj is the absolute Truth in a very Zoroastrian sense. Characters don't get to neatly skip past accountability for their actions, and this would spiral over into further later seasons with the essential reality that in an otherwise lower-level setting this one random girl from California is a Dark Phoenix-tier reality warper and the most powerful person on the planet, or the universe.
And the questions of how that power could and should be employed on the one hand and that Willow is essentially a Doctor Strange type who beats up Gods and Eldritch Abominations for her regular line of work where her counterparts deal with the more 'street level' crises would in turn be the logical conclusion of where the show ends. She doesn't do as much physical fighting for the same reason that Stephen Strange never uses magic to go punch the Hulk in the face, her narrative role is ultimately that of Sorceress Supreme of Earth, with literally nobody in an ancient established war anticipating that this one random ginger from California was and is the new Sorceress Supreme and that if they had had such awareness the realities are that this power would and could have taken worse forms.
Unfortunately for the world, the reality too is that it is a shy computer geek who has a not at all subtle dark side and the usual teenage anxieties and insecurities given the equivalent of being able to reliably actually do things other people might dream of but can never do.
But again as long as Dawn Summers being a good thing is a narrative convention that's established memory magic is a poor choice to show the corrupting effects of reality-warping. It's a case of 'yes as established in canon all of this is true for that one season but then they decided to retcon it, so the fans are not obligated to care about it any more than the canon does about this itself.'
#willow rosenberg#tara maclay#dawn summers#you will never convince me as long as Dawn Summers is a plot device that 'memory magic unforgivable' is anything but bad writing#it was the choice used but there are other equally toxic things that could have been done instead#the basic theme of 'very powerful person decides things for another in an abusive fashion' works just as well without it#Tara's growth arc in refusing to tolerate abuse even from the person who brought her out of her shell can stand perfectly fine#it works even better with a budding Sauron than abruptly deciding 'wholesale memory rewrites good retail unforgivable.'#killing Tara off also denies her any sense of closure or ability to get that closure with the person who does this#the entire element here with the way things went down is bad writing from Point A to point Z#and it's also easily forgotten but Tara wasn't in fact intended to be Willow's love interest#she was replacement Willow for sympathy points#her entire arc as such became Willow X Tara but it was a choice from actor chemistry#So in giving Tara a role besides 'Willow's Girlfriend' it arguably does better by her character#tara x willow#btvs#and yes yes the 'scale changes things' argument is true but only to a point#it's really no different to introduce Dawn than what Willow did#if the retail is wrong so is the wholesale and the decisions to make this that point of no return is an avoidable mistake#plus honestly imagine a Season 7 Tara going 'sweetie no' and a Season 7 Willow dealing with those consequences in real time#equally one can have Tara's cold turkey approach stick exactly as it was#and serve as her role in the time bomb because she's a product of an abusive family and not an infallible moral guide#she rightly sees the problem and at least tries to address it when nobody else did#but unfortunately her solution was pouring gasoline on the fire and then vacating the range where the fire would burn#still further between that and Willow being human enough to resent being told to take that pain and do it going it alone#there'd be plenty of reasons for a surviving Tara and Willow to spend season 7 broken up as is#Tara would not at all be wrong to be wary and not want to touch reformed Sauron with a 400 foot pole#Willow equally would resent someone whose bad advice helped create the problem and who evades any recognition thereof#good old fashioned drama with entirely human motives

"Anakin/Obi Wan/Yoda/Padmé/Shmi is the most tragic character in Star Wars" you are WRONG actually. L3-37 HOWEVER.....
#blah#the fact that no one ever talks about her is so messed up actually#like she is everything to me actually and what they did to her is beyond horrid#'it was life or death' IM NOT SAYING THEY HAD ANOTHER OPTION IM SAYING IT WAS TERRIBLE#this is going to get like 2 notes but i dont care because im literally right#choices were made in her creation!!!!!! she is a revolutionary!!!!!!! she values freedom for all droids more than anything else including#her own life!!!!! no matter how you feel about it they had that one like about her and lando! there is some form of jumbled emotional#romantic thread between them in some direction! and then they took this character and killed her off before plugging what was left of her#into the falcon!!! and they framed that as a good thing!!!! a GOOD THING. can you believe that?!?!?!?!#they made a character whose greatest value was independence and choice and turned them into an object to be bought and traded and bartered#and sold for ETERNITY (pretty much) and framed that as a good thing.#'this way shell be with us forever' THAT ISNT WHAT SHE WANTS#and then. and then. bc it gets worse. this cycle of buying and trading begins with her best friend (and lets be honest man she likely loved)#betting her on a card game like an object#and this will never ever be addressed#it absolutely destroys me thats what it is#SHE DOESNT EVEN GET TO DIE!!!!!!#like sw wronged her so bad and literally no one cares in universe or out except for me like 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬#sw#solo: a star wars story#star wars#lando calrissian#L3 37

not everything bad is white supremacy
not everything bad is capitalism
not everything bad is conservatism
not everything good is leftist for that matter
maybe this is a hot take but posts that blame, idk, the urge to punish on white supremacy, or power imbalance as a whole on capitalism, or personal greed on conservatism, are just a really great way to not be taken seriously. and shouldn't be taken seriously, because they strongly suggest that you put no thought into the cause of social ills beyond your own context.
#also because it's almost always a way to say that YOUR side would NEVER#like I'm wary about any statements on “human nature”#but it is a fact that many of the things I've seen this applied to#(bigotry and exploitation and greed and violence and over-rationalism and punitive justice and stratified societies and expansionism and...#have existed in societies that are not capitalist and not white or influenced by whiteness#and exist in the left SOMETIMES AS AN EXPRESSION OF LEFTIST THOUGHT#(...and misogyny and classism and ableism and disregard for life/valuing only some lives and hypocrisy and coercion and...)#like to be clear ALL of these are actual examples I've seen in the wild#of assigning things as “the result of [ideology]” with the implications that they would not exist without that ideology#and like i do get that it's more nuanced than that. that the EXPRESSION of bad things is often specific to an ideology.#but i also feel like the more we allow ourselves to believe that bad things come solely from bad politics#the less able we will be to build a better world that addresses social tendencies towards those things#idk mostly I'm just being pissed off by the idea that punitive justice is not just a tool of but a result of white supremacy#LIKE NO THE REASON IT WORKS AS A TOOL IS THAT THE DESIRE FOR PUNITIVE JUSTICE WAS ALREADY THERE#you don't want punitive justice BECAUSE you live in a white supremacist society!#this is not a desire unique to white or white supremacist cultures!#(“nearly all modern societies are affected by white supremacist ideals” is probably true but not relevant because they weren't always)#(my source for a lot of these disputes is to gesture loudly at history)#also because i always fear pissing on the poor: i am NOT saying that the link between action and ideology isn't relevant and with discussin#I'm saying that please stop claiming in so many words that a social evil exists BECAUSE of a political ideology#unless you can actually back it up#(also while we're at it a daily reminder that commerce is not the same thing as capitalism)#(and white supremacy is not the same thing as being white)#(conservatism is a looser term so i don't have as many pithy statements about that one)

DNI IF YOU THINK GEGE IS A GOOD WRITER WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU PEOPLE TALKING ABOUT.
#I'm losing my mind ''the ending was good'' ok Gege has one Obvious Disability character and he dees for plot#With minimal characterization beyond ''i wish I wasn't disabled'' which like. Could be fine if Gege put in OTHER WORTHWHILE DISABLED#CHARACTERS. And then the fact Toge is fucking put away after losing his arm and barely fucking comes up? And Todo is something but it's#Mmm feels Eeeeeeehhh to have one of 2 arm amputees come back and the one who gets to come back got Stronger Because Of The Prosthetic#And also. Misogyny from the fact Nanako and Mimiko basically only exist to make Geto sympathetic in some way#And are immediately disregarded after Geto's done with and never even fucking addressed. Nobara got fridges and unfridged#OH YEAH MAKI HAS SEVER BURNS BUT NAH THIS DOESNT DO ANYTHING REALLY. SHES JUST BURNED NOW. NO CHRONIC PAIN MOBILITY ISSUES ITS FINE I GUESS#and her burns just look like fucking tats instead of ACTUALLY SEVERE SCARRING.#And also just in general whatever the FUCK was going on w Ui Ui. That shit was treated like a joke and then fucking dropped.#Like what was the point. Awesome. This is stupid.#Anyway imagine if JJK was good. I wouldn't have had to read any of that shit or any of the fucking Sukuna slog#(idgaf Abt fight scenes in manga bc I straight up cannot process the Black/White visual info. This isn't usually that bad and is a me thing#But whatever the fuck Sukuna was doing was just stupid and BORING. I wish he killed himself)

i love to see people stop demonizing any kind of food and acknowledging that there is actually quite a bit of nutritional value in ice cream and fries and stuff, but there is also a way to do that without acting like none of us have high cholesterol
#speaking for me personally like i know its not a moral thing its not my fault it runs in my family#but its also related to the fact that i’ve spent a lot of time eating a particular kind of diet because i had lots of trouble getting#enough calories#which was much better for me than starving myself by a lot#but you’re kind of shooting yourself in the foot if you never acknowledge that some people have reason to be worried about their hearts#which again is not a moral thing and its not their fault#and its also bad for your heart to not eat enough#but its a factor that many people must consider#this is not about any particular post i’ve just noticed a trend of when people talk about this#they don’t acknowledge that one of the biggest reasons people are taught to fear certain foods is because they can affect your cholesterol#and blood pressure#and there’s plenty of misinformation and fat phobia wrapped together with people understanding of certain health problems that are real#so you shouldn’t just correct the false parts and not address the part that actually has varying levels of truth to it#a lot of people will not be able to take you seriously and they will not listen to the helpful things you are saying#be concerned about reaching the people who need it#if that’s what you’re trying to do

Tbh I know it seems like I only just became active again but I actually talk about ninjago all the time irl. I’m just scared to say my opinions here cuz everyone is so different from how they used to be. Not that that’s bad but I feel like my opinions are outdated. But I won’t change them.
#mostly about how I hate misako IM SORRYYY OK. DOES THIS RLLY MAKE ME A MISOGYNIST THO???#like if yall wanna ignore the bad writing I hella respect that. but I personally cannot. so I don’t like her. sorry.#cuz I agree she has a lot of potential and there are ways she could be a good character but they just… didn’t make her one. wasted potential#at least they didn’t execute her very well. like I’m shocked ppl like her now. yall can watch s2 and not have ur blood boil?#there are like ten million hypocritical things she does that never get addressed ever and I’m supposed to. ignore that cuz women.#like I’m giving MOST women a pass cuz the writers SUCKKEDD at writing them back then. but I just don’t think misako earned that back#that’s just me personally as I said I respect if yall like her. I think it’s based. I just don’t see why suddenly her haters are called#misogynists. like… the show didn’t handle her well and in fact handled her very frustratingly I’m sorry. congrats to those who move past it.
