Regarding Fourth Wing, I had great fun reading it and I love love love the dragons and the disability rep. But I also agree that tiktok and booktok has hyped it up so so much, that I think it is a disservice to the book, as I feel like people expect a master piece that will rock their world, and what they get is a good book with hours of fun, that can make you laugh.
And I just want more hype in general that is like “this is a nice book, I had fun/I enjoyed it” instead of “THIS IS THE BEST BOOK I HAVE EVER READ OH MY GOD MY LIFE WILL NEVER BE THE SAME”. Like less can do it, and you don’t end up making massive expectations, that are likely to fail cause the bar is so so high.
I really Fourth Wing, and it reminded me of a book series I read for many years, that to this day is still one of my faves and holds so many memories.
you get me! 😤🤝 that's exactly my thoughts. fortunately for me, i don't have tiktok, so the "hype" i was experiencing was very much second-hand word-of-mouth. i did know it was a tiktok sensation somehow though, so i went into it very warily.
like. did i enjoy Fourth Wing? exceedingly so! will i purchase the next one? absolutely! do i think it's taking it too far for every Barnes & Noble in America to be sold out of physical copies? yes, yes i do.
at the end of the day, books are such a personal experience, regardless of content or quality. i wouldn't necessarily want people to lessen their excitement so much as i would caution everyone receiving book recommendations to take everything with a grain of salt.
the thing that i love about a book isn't necessarily going to be the thing you love about a book, and vice versa. when people say "OH MY GOD THIS BOOK WAS AMAZING" just imagine they tacked on an implicit "to me" at the end of that sentence and you should be good. 🖤🦇

and our giraffe liked the post almost immediately 💗
i had been monitoring for that like and it took a tiny bit. i think it was closer to within 20 minutes. or my instagram is broken and was lagging, that’s also a possibility 😆
assuming taylor posted to insta at 9 minutes past the hour (anyone have the actual time?) i had texted mutuals at 21 minutes past the hour saying it would be neat if she liked it, and at that point she hadn’t, and the earliest report of a like that i saw was at 31 minutes past the hour.. so.. anywhere between 13-22 minutes after she posted..? maybe..? by my estimation..?
anybody have a better estimation?
at any rate, it’s still quite fast 😆

thinking about the corishtola wedding made me think about the scions pre-corishtola getting together knowledge of them so
tataru: guessed cori had feelings back in hw when she found the letters cori wrote to shtola (who was in the lifestream but cori wanted to feel like she was talking to her). guessed about shtola when they reunited. the number one corishtola shipper forever
thancred: 1 of 2 witnesses to the exact moment shtola realized she loves cori. keeps it to himself except when shtola is mad at him in shb.
minfilia: the other witness to the exact moment shtola realized she loves cori. it doesn’t come up for obvious reasons 🥲
urianger: he was not really around for the real pining but he was front and center for the formation of their initial friendship, more than any of the others. he has an idea based on things shtola says and does in shb but doesn’t say anything to her about it bc shtola is a bit upset with him
alisaie: this one i’m less sure about lol she and cori get close in stb when shtola is not around much so she’s kind of unaware til shb when she really sees them together and that’s when she’s just waiting for them to get together
alphinaud: has assumed they were together for years already, probably since around the time they left ishgard for gyr abania. maybe he’s the number one corishtola shipper actually

[ID: the cover art of volume 42 of “yona of the dawn”, featuring gija and jaeha; they’re both smiling, and maple leaves and sparrows are flying around them. a text post by greelin has been edited onto the image; it reads: “yeah i'm doomed by the narrative but i have a little time to be absolutely gay”. end ID.]

We don't know what Essek uses the geometer on the top of his tower for, given that it's not necessarily something that automatically aligns with the rest of his academic interests. It could relate in some way, but we don't actually know one way or another.
In that vein, I've decided to believe that he in fact continuously monitors planar shifting so he will know immediately if anything particularly major is happening in Bazzoxan.
