Do you have any unpopular opinions about mlp fim? For instance, "Newbie Dash" is probably my favorite Rainbow Dash episode since I think it's the only episode that actually had her suffer some consequences due to her own hubris.

Oh, I have a few. For one I think Fluttercord as a concept is misogynistic as hell and a huge disservice to Fluttershy's character if not downright fuckin creepy. I used to be neutral on the ship but it's only gotten worse and worse with time. Another is just. I don't think Starlight Glimmer shoulda gotten all that screentime. I like a lot of the eps shes in, especially with Trixie, but I really didn't need her to be permeating through so much, feels like a strange self insert

One more for the road: I think the finale is kind of awful on a thematic and lore level. Like, emotionally wise, they reach all the high notes they could have ever wanted off the show, thats for sure, but like;

1 - I'm ideologically opposed to the idea that Cozy Glow is an irredeemable monster that belongs turned to stone or in tartarus. she's a fucking child and the writers think she's irredeemable. 2 - Generally Chrysalis Cozy and Tyrek are all a weird choice for ultimate trio for final bosses. Any of them have been their own world ending threats, I woulda preffered something new. Hell, I still think the mean 6 or at least anti Twilight coulda been a more interesting finale.

3 - If racism is THAT easy to bring back, then clearly theres an enormous systemic problem with all of the goddamn society, and oh, look at that, bc of g5, canonically we know that Equestria falls, and bc of the comics we know it falls on the lifetimes of the main 6. It's almost genious foreshadowing, how much Twilight's kingdom was built ona house of cards tbh.

4 - Celestia and Luna lose to Cozy Glow. Cozy Glow, a child alicorn, 1 v 2s them. That's unforgivable, insane, really fucking stupid.

5 - If the solution is friendship power, just like it has always fucking been, then why wasn't it the first choice to deal with the fucking problem, at this point the 38 minutes that build up to 'oh shit my friends are my power' feels completely superfluous man. Its lazy

6 - The final problem has that vibe of JKRs 'all was well' thing that glosses over some major damn problems, and well, considering the canon, even when i watched the first time I couldn't help but think I was watching a bunch of naive ass ponies trying to enjoy their final years together before Equestria fell to the damn brink. It's more bitter than sweet. Twilight Sparkle will watch all her friends die of old age hooray...!

Ohhhh!! Can we talk about the Pokemon AU?? What ideas do you have for professors and gym leaders? What about a regional champion?? I 100% think that Techno is the regional champion and Phil could be either a professor or part of the Elite 4! Tommy can be the scrappy teen that is trying to accomplish the gym challenges and try to fight Techno for the title! Dream can be his unofficial mentor the one that comes by when things get tricky with the evil team and then had a dramatic twist of “he is the villain but actually not, he is just a tragic figure”

*crack my back and rise* Be prepared for a long post because I have a lot of them in my brain.

Original pokemon AU (base plan):

The original headcanon I had for the pokemon AU is more based around cc!Dream with a dash of drama from canon linked here! You are absolutely right that Techno is the champion and has and will continue to challenge and enter competition even outside of his region! Phil can absolutely be one of the professors! He can be invested in the study of fossil or death >.< The gym leaders are pretty loose as I don't give much thoughts to that tbh, but I do think that Tina as grass leader, Puffy as water, etc. Maybe I will throw in the newer mafia, who knows? I definitely see Tommy, Tubbo and Ranboo as the trio working their way through gym challenges, stumbling into villain organisation and accidentally saving the world hahaha.

Dream in this AU is more laid back, not liking to battle but his pokemon has maxed out friendship and can definitely rain hell on any trainers foolish enough to approach with ill intention. He works in a pokemon daycare during his free time and will give out friendship eevee for those close to him. His care to the pokemon means that most of the eevees have good EV! He definitely gets dragged into the plot unknowingly, much to the dismay of his close friends.

This AU is mostly chill and just shenanigans!

The B side of the Pokemon AU:

This, this is the part where things start to derail for me because if I can have a pokemon AU based on the cc why not go all the way to c!Dream as well.

So this is an alternate Pokemon AU involving c!character. In this side of the AU, c!Dream still possess the revival book and because of that, he forces himself to release all his pokemon with the intention to perish witht the revival book. In the process of destroying the book, he accidentally intergrate the book with himself so we now have an immortal walking revival book that is Dream. Worried that he and any of his close ones will get targeted, he devoted himself a life of a lone hermit and proceed to travel the land in hope to find a way to truly end his existence. He does, however, perform small miracle act subtly whenever he passes by someone or some pokemon in need of help as a way to atone for his sins. He makes sure to do it discreetly so that he would not gather unintended attention.

Alas, sometimes people still put two to two together so he still occasionally gets targeted. What he doesn't know is that most of the people he helped one way or another, does in fact help cover up his trail, misleading any hunters after him. Dream has one pokemon willingly follow him; a stubborn Charcadet, which prove to be a good helper by saving Dream multiple time in their travel.

Dream can hold his own against pokemons in this AU. He kinda has to, as he doesn't have a companion pokemon of his own for the longest time. Phil, as the angel of Death or the guardian in pokemon term is actively tracking down Dream to detain the revival book, but after he witness the bond between Dream and Ceruledge, he let Dream go with the condition that should Dream one day run into any problem bigger than he could handle, he would find Phil to help.

Techno is one of the child Dream helped revive on a whim. He was born sickly and wasn't supposed to make it past the night, well, if Dream hasn't shown up like a wet cat on his doorway. Techno still makes fun of him on the off chance that they met. Because of the second chance, Techno was able to become an extraordinary trainer. He helps out Dream whenever he can and even offer a roof for the homeless Dream to stay in. Dream refused ofc, but he would crash in from time to time to rest.

Speaking of the B side, it leads to an uncontrollable spiral in which I start imagining Pokemon with any and most of my AUs. Like would syndicate!Dream has an Eevee as well or would he has a Arcanine, I can totally see him accidentally taming Zygrade (Dog) without knowing it as a legendary. Also witch!Dream would have a Hatterene. Cornelius can have a Floette, Hubert and Indeedee works because of the bulter theme. Can you see how I am absolutely normal and not being able to talk about this has only made me more normal?

So this was supposed to be part of my other fop post but it got way too long (both posts did tbh) and is a different topic than the other one. So yeah here’s a bunch of random thoughts about the show in general from what I’ve seen of it. For context I’ve only seen the first 4-5 episodes + “Battle of the Dimmsonian” + the Cosmo-Wanda-Peri scenes in “Lost in Fairy World” and “Operation: Birthday Takeback”.

SPOILERS for “Operation: Birthday Takeback” for the last three dashes (2.4k words below):

- Putting it in first since it’s still related to Peri but I’m pretty amused by the whole “Tumblr sexyman” situation. I mean, less than two weeks ago all canon pics we had of him were baby pics. It’s the same deal when I see people call him a father figure to Dev, I can’t help but be like “wdym father figure? He’s barely an adult! He’s too young!”

It’s like imagine you have a neighbor who have a baby when you’re 9-10, then they move out and 20 years later you meet their kid as an adult. You can clearly tell they’re an adult and treat them as such but also it’s a bit weird bc your last and only memories of them were of a baby. Idk, I see Peri’s character as an adult but also he’s still a bit of a kid, you know? I feel like I explain this better in the other post tbh.

- In retrospect it’s also very funny to see how, when people talk about the decline of fop, they point at the inclusion of the new characters, including Poof. Yet look where we are now! If you thought the baby was the problem, apologize to him, now! /j

But yeah more seriously, personally I never minded Poof. He was definitely a useless addition, like outside of the handful of episodes focused on him he mostly just stands there looking at the other characters, but he was also a cute baby, so I’ve always been fine with him being around. He’s a useless but inoffensive addition, and I think the decline of the show around that time had less to do with him and more to do with the writing as a whole.

- Last thing about Peri before moving on to the show in general, which tbh I could've put in the other post: I've seen people talk about the idea of Hazel and Dev switching fairies and I kind of agree with it.

Not only because Cosmo and Wanda have the experience needed to help a kid like Dev (though it wouldn't be all sunshine and rainbows) while Hazel's situation is easier for Peri, but also it's worth noting that Dev needs a parental figure, which Cosmo and Wanda can be, while Hazel misses her older brother, who Peri is around the same age of. Idk, I feel like this could work, or at least make things easier for everyone involved (but also especially for Dev).

- Something I originally wanted to put in the tags of the other post but fuck it: I’m really not a fan of them releasing the episodes so soon one after the other. With serialized shows, I’m always been more of a fan of having an episode a week you can chew on and theorize about, rather than being given everything at once. Also it takes a while for the cargo to get on the ships if you catch my drift.

I’d also complain about seeing all those plot-related episodes one after the other with none of the more casual stories in-between that give us more character moments, but honestly that’s on me for looking up spoilers.

- Going to the early show, I think the first episode is such a good introduction! I especially like the amount of focus on Cosmo and Wanda, it’s good to have them reintroduced given how flanderized they became in the og show. I’m especially happy with Cosmo! He arguably had it worse than Wanda in the og and it’s so good to see him shine this much in this first episode (also I love his human form having a bit of a gut)! On that note, they did a fantastic job having them around a lot while still giving Hazel enough time to be introduced properly and get us to care about her as the MC!

But yeah I really like this first episode, fantastic beginning to the show! The only issue I “really” have with it is the way Cosmo and Wanda go back to being godparents just because Hazel made a strong enough wish or something, it felt a bit arbitrary rather than them just telling her who they are.

And on that note, big fan of that one scene where they immediately notice her trying to run away and try to talk her out of it. I love the contrast between them starting off as disasters being barely capable of passing off as humans at the beginning of the episode, and them being perfectly in their element the second they start talking to Hazel about her running away in this scene. It’s such a good way to see how much experience they have with taking care of kids!

- I’m not going to go episode by episode but one thing that bothers me a lot in the second one is that rule of “kids should get whatever they wish for”. Doesn’t that...go against the whole concept of having rules in the first place???

They should’ve replaced it with something along the lines of “a kid should always get the fairy that fits them the best”, not only bc it would work perfectly well for the episode, but also from what I’ve heard Foop (now Irep) is coming back and I could 100% see him use that rule to his advantage given Peri and Dev were such a bad match (I’m guessing anti-fairies don’t actually follow Da Rules but maybe they could still use it as an excuse regardless since fairies do have to follow them or something?)

- Call we talk about the fact Hazel is clearly autistic? Like is this a canon thing in the show? Are there people out there talking about it? No because seriously:

The fidget toys (Cosmo and Wanda’s disguises), her special interest for rocks, her anxiety over making new friends which is reinforced as uncommon when that one girl she befriends comments on how easy and not scary it is to approach other people (also Hazel’s “what am I supposed to talk about with them? School lunches?” comment in the teachers friend episode), her liking for fries which could be seen as her being potentially picky (bit of a stretch tho), her comment about liking the DMV if only for the reaction she gets that makes her seem “different”, her struggles to come up with a wish on the fly with minimal/vague instructions (episode 2), her character arc throughout the show apparently having to do with her not wanting things to change (me too girl), her being considered mature for her age, the angry outbursts when things don’t go how she hoped, pretty sure there’s also a lot of stimming that I have yet to pick up on (see if any of them repeat often). Like, there’s no way ALL of that was a coincidence!

I’d also like to mention at the beginning of the Dino episode, when her dad is explaining things to her, he starts talking louder and louder in excitement until his wife tells him to quiet down. Makes me think her dad’s likely neurodivergent as well. Also this moment hurts my soul a bit, as someone who’s both been on the receiving end of it and done it to someone else, in both cases it sucks.: /

- Took me until like episode 4 to realize the town she lives in is named after the Dimmadomes, with the hat in it (the very first shot of the intro). Also you can see their infinite house in the background, both in that shot and the show in general, and I absolutely adore that they committed so hard to this joke! That giant ambiguously-shaped-like-a-hat skyscraper that we never see the top of is just *chief kiss*.

- On that note Dev’s introduction in the first episode made me laugh, if only for the references. I also find it kinda funny he has such a big speaking role considering he doesn’t do anything for the rest of the pilot and the next few episodes. Then again I guess it’s in character for him to make such a show of introducing himself.

- Still on general stuff, I’m a bit curious about how the timeline went in regards to Cosmo and Wanda retiring and going on vacation “right after” Timmy (iirc they don’t voice it like that in the show). Like I’m having a hard time believing they would just ditch their then-child son to go on vacation, and then come back when he’s an adult. So I ended up having a bunch of headcanons.

Basically, after leaving Timmy they do take what was supposed to be a short leave to think of their future since it feels strange to get a new kid after so long with the same one + I like the idea that Cosmo and Wanda’s marriage did suffer while living with Timmy and they want to work on it before getting a new kid (the whole thing about them feeling confined, made worse if the “stopping time for 50 years” wish is canon) + Poof/Peri is struggling with the reality of having to leave Timmy behind and is nervous about his parents having a new godkid because of it.

Eventually they decide to retire, got to marriage counseling, possibly get Poof/Peri into therapy, and raise their son until he’s an older teen/young adult, at which point they leave for their vacation. And while the vacation is 10 thousand years for them, it’s like, 5 years at max in their present. And in that meantime, Peri starts his godparents studies (or however it works), leaves the house and changes his name.

Btw Cosmo and Wanda would 100% invite him to the vacation, he’d just refuse in a mix between wanting to be away from his parents for once, wanting to maybe surprise them a bit with his work and/or just get started with work, and not knowing how long the vacation would be. He’d also probably tell them to just use this time as some new honeymoon to finish rebuilding their marriage (though by that point it must’ve gone back to being strong). Oh and Cosmo and Wanda would send Peri postcards every so often, which would also let him know how long they’ve been gone.

Once they come back from vacation, I’d imagine there’s like less than a month between them “moving to the human world” and meeting Hazel, hence why they didn’t reconnect with Peri. They didn’t really know how to contact him and were busy with the move, and afterwards they had a godkid to take care of so they couldn’t exactly go back to Fairyworld.

As for Peri, he hears through the gravepine that his parents are back, and would be happy until he realizes they’ve been gone for 10 thousand years, hence him freaking out about meeting them again (he doesn’t know how much they might’ve changed with how long it’s been). Also he can’t contact them bc he’d hear about them coming back due to them taking in Hazel, meaning they’re in the human world and he doesn’t know where. Also he might be intimidated to contact them, which doesn’t help his decision-making.

So yeah, that’s all for how I could imagine this whole vacation thing going and how it fits with them having a child.

- Since I’m talking about Cosmo and Wanda’s marriage, I’ve heard about the whole “they fixed their marriage” before watching the show and oh my god I can’t get over how fucking adorable those two are in this show!!! I fucking love them.

- And on that note I’m incredibly amused that this show had the balls to reference the mpreg. Twice. Especially since it doesn’t even specify the whole “that’s just how fairies work”! In the eyes of people who never watched the og show, “A New Wish” just casually dropped the fact that Cosmo’s a trans man (bc let’s be real, how else are you supposed to interpret those lines if you haven’t watched the og show?) or you get the vibe that the writers wanted to make him trans (+ Wanda by proxy since she’s Peri’s bio mom) but weren’t allowed so that’s how they got past the censors.

And I love this because you just know Hartman would be furious about it! With our current society more aware of trans people and how men can in fact get pregnant, I could definitely see him sweep the whole mpreg thing under the rug, hoping people would forget about his “”accidentally-progressive”” (and also very sexist 😒) episode, but nope! New show said Cosmo was pregnant and gave birth! And better yet it didn’t even elaborate further! It just goes “btw this guy has an uterus and was once pregnant, here’s his bio child if you need more proof” and then walks on like nothing happened, I love it!

- Going back to the episodes talk for the last three dashes, there’s that shot at the very end of “Operation: Birthday Takeback” that I really dislike. It’s the one when Dev lashes out on Peri, with him hovering over Peri who’s laying on the ground in fear.

Really not a big fan of this shot bc 1. It makes Dev look way too much like a villain, especially with the way Peri’s laying like a servant that gets beaten up, and 2. Peri, honey, you’re a grown ass man; why are you so scared of that 10 years old scarred kid that’s lashing out while in a very vulnerable mental state? What are you doing on the ground buddy? I’m not asking for him to fight back but at least stand up! Don’t act like that kid can actually hurt you! Btw I’m completely fine with Peri afterwards looking like a dejected puppy (after Dev makes his wish), it’s just that one shot with him on the ground that I dislike.

- Obviously I’m genuinely curious to see how things are going to go in the next episodes (which apparently air tonight?). Like obviously Dev is going to spiral but if you have a scene at school how will it go? How will Hazel feel about the whole thing? What about Peri? Is he going to be gone for a few episodes? Be a temporary third fairy to Hazel? Crash at Cosmo and Wanda’s for a while?

(Personally I’m hoping for the third option, it would be a good way to still give him appearances to show the main plot’s still going without giving him to much screentime, which could take away from Hazel. Also given how much he wants to appear independent, I don’t see him being a third fairy to her, though I think he’d be ok with staying at his parents for a bit, if only for emotional support (though tbh I doubt they’ll do that, most likely he’ll be doing his own thing off-screen for an episode or two). Also I want to see a “human” design for him)

OK so I wrote this yesterday before the Irep episode came out, so on one hand nevermind all that but on the other hand I’m letting it in bc I AM curious as to how things are going to evolve with our main cast, especially with Dev spiraling and pushing both his bestie and fairy away.

- Btw is nobody going to talk about how Vicky’s dress might be a reference to one of the “Oh Yeah” shorts?

- VERY LAST SECOND ADDITION, SPOILERS FOR IREP: So yesterday before I finished both this and the other post the new episodes dropped, with a few clips shared on Tumblr. And OH MY GOD IREP’S DESIGN!!! The fact that they kept him as a cube makes me so happy!!! I was HOPING at least ONE part of him would be a cube and they delivered!!! He looks like absolulte dogshit I love it!!! Bc yeah for some reason I remember Foop as a character you’re not supposed to take seriously at all? And as a result I really like how stupid Irep looks. A+ design right there! /gen

fanon vs canon: we're talking (an essay)

Hiya! I've been seeing a lot on my dash these huge arguments about fanon vs canon in the DC/Batfamily univers, and it's getting pretty heated. People seem to be getting upset about what "counts" as canon, what parts of the story are "real" or "made up by fans" and what is "allowed" to be "real".

Personally, I find the entire argument to be reductive and extremely so.

Here's why:

Batman as a property has existed for 85 years. The idea and mythology and story of Batman has been handled by countless writers and artists, been seen in every kind of artistic medium, and has been changed over and over again over the past eight and a half decades. This story has never been told the same way twice and that's half the point of these stories and mythologies we've built up. We've seen Bruce Wayne be morally questionable if not outright reprehensible, a loving father, a staunch loner, a murderer-by-proxy (Batman v Superman, you know not what you do). It's okay to pull ideas from across time because, well, there's a lot of it and things are changing all the time!

There's a lot more there than we can easily comprehend (this is kind of more of a "1a, but fine, whatever, hey) This is something I see a lot where someone is accused of being "too fanon" only for it to turn out to be something pulled directly from the over eight decades of work. Maybe it's not productive to accuse people of this kind of thing when maybe, just maybe, there are sources for this.

Flattening these characters into "allowable" ideas of the character limits our creativity I mean, think about it for a moment: why should we limit what stories we tell and things we create by what other people tell us is acceptable? After all, if we said there were only certain kinds of stories and ideas allowed, we would never have Dark Knights of Steel, Red Son, or even Batman Beyond. Without taking risks, making changes, and telling our own stories, we miss out on so many amazing ideas that would never be permitted to bloom. (ok but the LEGO Batman movies make Damian this cheerful people-pleasing little ball of sunshine and that's not it tbh, there are limits)

People are more nuanced than you think - it's okay to be a little contradictory (this means you!) When I was growing up, I was in an intense and huge music fandom that engaged in something called The Great Poser Hunt of '07 (IYKYK). In what was supposed to be a loving space for the outcasts and forgotten weirdoes of every known high school, we would bully each other relentlessly for "not liking the right thing" or "not being a real fan" and we would constantly test and torment each other over it. It was stressful, it was awful, and it made me and many others like me feel like we had to fit a certain aesthetic, mindset, and media taste otherwise we would be outcast again and this time from a group already ostracised. (And these aesthetics and media tastes that were chosen for us by large corporations but whatever, that's another essay for another day) I listened to Backstreet Boys in secret with my iPod under the blankets, I could let none of my friends know about my secret love of Bon Jovi, and the parts of my heart devoted to 80s New Wave were locked away where no one could see. I felt reduced to what other people wanted from me. I hope you're reading this and thinking "man, that sucked, I don't want to be like that! I want to like all the things I like and proudly!" Which is grand! Please continue to think nice things for yourself! My question to you now is: why would we do this to fictional characters, too? Why can't Dick Grayson be cunning and clever, sometimes kinder than he is wise, friendly and funny and horribly ruthless when he needs to be and all at once? Jason Todd already embodies this kind of thing by being a head-taking badass biker who loves the classics but you know what, he can listen to Slipknot and Britney Spears! That's okay, too! And whatever it is you like, whether it fits a certain aesthetic or scene or mould, that is okay. You deserve to enjoy your things freely and without shame and without shaming others. (So leave Jason's Katy Perry CD collection the hell alone, ya vultures!)

In conclusion:

It's okay for people to make up new ideas for the things you love. It's okay for people to try new things. It's okay for you to disagree with them, too, you don't have to like everything anyone ever comes up with.

But bullying people for their creativity, especially when there's over eighty goddamn years of media to be inspired by, when limiting creativity is stifling and has us miss out on truly special things, and when people in general are more nuanced than you think?

tbh i really hated the fact that g5 got away from the dumbass names they'd give to the ponies and i wanted to try to bring that back but still have g4's flare to it

i made hitch green cause god damn it we need more green horses in this world, and the fact that he and sunny look too alike like you could mistake them for being siblings (plus changing him to be loosely cactus theme ties him back into his sheriff stick in my opinion) (also i kinda hate how his cutiemark turned out, oh well)

every day i grieve the hippie izzy we could've had, i would've LOVED a hippie main character. Also i made her reflect her moon name better cause it really bugged me that she had moon and they did nothing with it, moonshine is a sleep therapist that does art on the side in this. I gave her dreadlocks to help differentiate her from misty but still keep the natural hair (also haha alcohol name)

I also grieve mechanic sunny, it wouldve been so fun having her invent shit on the fly, not to mention it would actually give her a hobby cause all she does is roller skate and sell smoothies when she isn't yapping. And now that i think about it if she was a mechanic it would make even more sense on how they managed to make that flying van thing they use.

Zipp and Pipp have always annoyed me in a design sense I hated how they didn't look related and i hated zipp's hair style toothpaste looking ass. I wish they would commit and give her a mow hawk but alas we live in a cruel world. My designs for them don't really help them look that much more related but I did give them the same markings so you can't say i didnt try. Another thing I changed zipp's special talent from daredevil or whatever to making storms because A i think it wouldve been interesting to see a character who needed magic to gain their cutiemark and B it helps differentiate her more from rainbow dash.

Misty I have the least amount of issues of her in canon cause I think her design is actually really stinkin cute! I mostly just made her look shyer and got rid of the weird pink gradients on her cause they didn't really look that good. (plus her orange mane she gets later I don't like as much)

So this blog has hit 1'000 followers recently, and that gives me all sorts of warm fuzzies about all the people I've met along the way. The ones I talk to every day, the ones I've fallen out of touch with or who are no longer a part of the community, and the ones I keep on my dash even though we never speak. How do you feel about a we are au where Phum and Kluen end up good friends all of a sudden? After, like, a few weeks pass of Phum dating Peem.

Like, suddenly people are starting to see them together, hanging out and talking calmly, even smiling amusingly at each other— like they are having fun. And Phum’s friends are confused, because is this the Phum that would tense and look like he’s a minute away from hissing at Kluen everytime he appeared? Is this the Kluen that would smile dryly at Phum and mostly ignore him?

It could a fun idea, especially with scenes where maybe Toey or even Q think Kluen might be bothering Phum so they kind of try to fend him off, and Phum is like, “Guys, no need.” He’s just so confused at their defensive stances, and THEY are so confused with his easy-going energy.

Oh, imagine Fang’s reaction fuehdjrhejjd I wouldn’t even think. Or Beer’s.

Peem is especially the most confused. Kluen went from trying to seek him to seeking his boyfriend, who was so jealous of Kluen not a long time ago. Now they are spotted at Aunt Pui’s cafe??? Drinking their coffee together and having winded convos?? With hand gestures and all???

Like a 5+1 type of fic; five times Phum and Kluen were seen together and that one time they reveal they are actually friends.

I saw your post about writing a fic in Kluen’s pov and I thought: Yeah, sure, I personally made Kluen kind of a bad guy in my omegaverse fic, but just because it’s plot relevant for very important scenes. I don’t dislike the guy that much tbh.

And this idea seems fun. Like, Peem asking Phum about it after a while, kind of cautiously because he doesn’t know how to breach the subject (He doesn’t want to give Phum the impression that it’s a wrong thing, this new development with Kluen. It’s just shocking.)

And Phum just blinking at him, and then going, “Well, I was trying to make peace with him for you, because I know you guys get along. 🥺 But then I realized we actually have a lot in common. I guess it just happened.”

I just imagine Peem going oh, and then being so very proud that Phum did that. That he and also Kluen got over all the petty stuff and got to know each other for real, and now they are friends!!

When he tells Phum that, Phum makes a “☺️” face that quickly morphs into a smirk, and says, “He’s not that bad, yeah. He liked you, after all. No one who likes you is bad.”

Peem flicks his nose, cheeks redder, and mutters, “Shut up, you.”

But Phum can see the fondness in his face.

you could choose to apply the scientific method. objectively quantify hotness in the Objective opinion of a lesbian. except, obviously, hotness depends on a series of factors - just because someone is attractive, it doesn't mean that they are Hot, you get me? you gotta keep their personality into account, too. AND on top of all of that, we need to account for gender envy. so you do what I did. and you open excel. and you start grading the boys depending on fuckability, dateability, and whether or not you want their gender. cool, now you have an Objective, Correct Answer. because obviously everyone's opinions on attractiveness are subjective and therefore all valid, BUT my subjective intepretation IS a little more correct than other people's. anyway, you have done all this. you have your answer. except you also have a visual memory and don't love numbers. and you might choose to chart it all out.

I'm actually putting a cut here not to clog everyone's dash with this, but here are some little explanations on why I gave my score and clarifying some slightly confusing things about the chart:

Everyone is listed by surname to make sure they were all identifiable without clogging up the chart too much.

I do think most of them look, like. Fine. not, like, fiiiiiiine, they do genuinely just look. like some guys. half of them I wouldn't look at twice if I met them in tesco, you get me? anyway. I stared at so many pictures of these men trying to determine if they were fuckable. I think I am losing my mind.

Jordan, Cooper, and Stirling are actually all on the same point, they are just vaguely scattered around to make the labels readable. I had to install a whole new r package for this.

-Stirling - his swagless looks and cringefail personality might have captivated Eve, but they are not enough for me. he looks mostly average, but he gets extra points because I am an Unusual Nose enjoyer

-Paddy - with all of my love for him he also does just look normal in my opinion (very pretty eyes, though). like, he looks good, but in a pretty normal way. and then on top of that there is his personality. (both of his scores turn into 10s if you have the highly specific brand of mental illness that Augustin and Eoin both have. get better soon pal)

-Lewes - Jock would absolutely make the best boyfriend out of the main trio, this is basically canon. he's also kind of pretty in a haunted doll way but again I do think he looks mostly Fine.

-Riley - not sure how to justify why his scores are so high tbh. but he seems very confident which is kind of attractive, I guess? also no idea why I want his gender. but I DO.

-Almonds - I just KNOW that Almonds would be such a kind and caring boyfriend. I had originally given him a 7 for fuckability but then I realised that if I was a gay man I would be all over his bear charms in a matter of seconds.

-Reg - Reg gets extra points for being kind of a malewife and also his massive tits but other than that I do think he's pretty average. I would be his friend though. I think he'd be a big lesbian ally in the same way Thor is.

-Kershaw - his fuckability is that high because he exclusively joined the SAS cause he loves killing fascists so my friends and I have an ongoing joke that he fucks like a freight train. that's it.

-Wee Johnny - a little Too Blond for my taste. also, I am sorry, but he is VERY young and I think at the point in life he's at, he'd be a little too self centred to be a good boyfriend. that said my man looks like a he/him lesbian and I'd steal his gender like a fae if I could.

-Fraser - I just KNOW he'd be the kindest, most gentle boyfriend on the planet. absolute sweetheart of a man. that said, he does just look like your run of the mill twink.

-Sadler - really don't know what it is about his odd as hell vibes that makes him so fuckable to me but there is SOMETHING. that said those odd as hell vibes do probably make him into a Not Ideal boyfriend.

-Eoin - I'm sorry, he's got it all. he cooks? he's sweet and understanding but can also be a bit of a little shit? buff but not massive? gets dimples when he smiles? AND he's got freckles and curly hair and an Unusual nose? he's literally perfect and undefeated winner of this contest. rest in peace sweet prince

-Augustin - he has very pretty eyes and face but his lankyness and weirdass way of moving (affectionate) does bring his fuckability score down a little. he's also Insane and while I do think he's very good at hiding it, you would eventually notice while you are dating him and go "huh!" (this, once again, does not apply if you are Paddy). oh that said I don't know what it is about his weird skinny puppetlike limbs that's so gender to me but. yah.

-Bergé - gonna be honest here, he's only included because I felt bad about Augustin being the only Frenchie on there. I like his moustache and his funky hat.

thank you so much, @theha1r, for the kind words! it means a lot! honestly, i've always loved minor characters because they have such potential and i find it fun to unearth that potential and turn it into something cool, together with all of my friends. shoutout to all of them, they know who they are! <3 and i think that's the beauty of it: a lot of my characters wouldn't be as well developed as they are right now, if i hadn't met the people i met across all of my blogs. truly though, this blog would not exist without arrow / @founderscouncil. i remember making a list of supernatural characters i wanted to write: some wolves, some vamps and a huntress. and then i saw arrow's dynamic's call for j/ed specifically: an inter-faction romeo and juliet type of thing where neither of their respective groups approve but they're drawn to each other anyway. and i was like: that dynamic is perfect for my new vamp baby! literally, it's been the fastest i ever came up with a fc + name + personality in my life. flori would not exist, as she exists right now, without arrow's j/ed and i will die on the hill that jedibeth is basically f/orwood 2.0. but it's not just j/ed. it's also loren bennett, arrow's take on a bennett daughter, shrouded in mystery. sincerely, i would have loved to watch a spin-off about loren figuring out life and who she is and where she came from and what her magic can do and then ultimately getting together with penelope ;) and then there is king's mia hirsch / @fellvespers. and mia is just a beautiful character study in regards to resilience. mia's story starts when people vanish on her. first, her parents and then, her uncle. and then things just go from bad to worse. mia's story is one of escaping harsh situations by the skin of your teeth and running towards the things and people you need, even if you don't yet know you need them. i also would have loved to see a mia spin-off, diving deeper into werewolf culture as a whole. reading king's writing across the board is just a masterclass in and of itself. flori loves mia and loren so much. in her eyes, this friendship saved her. they kept her upright through so much ranging from family drama to crushes drama. they are her heart and lungs as much as they are her backbone. mia, loren and flori are as much b/arolena 2.0. as h/ope, j/osie and l/izzie are imho. those three fit into this world so perfectly and i feel like they balance out the main l/egacies girls while still standing on their own. but i also want to give a seperate shoutout to tina / @troubleah because i never expected the leah and flori dynamic to blossom as it did but i am so glad it did. i think leah, unknowingly, became a dear friend and taught flori to not only make peace with what she became but to love it and to embrace it with open arms. and i also want to give a shoutout to z / @soulmateprinciple for not only writing a lot of the night world characters excellently but also for getting me into the night world books as a whole. they're very 90's and perfectly imperfect but i do so adore them and z for introducing me to them.

maybe it's space curating bc i definitely see the mike side as the higher volume/frequency, i mean most times theres discourse it's bc someone poking at the will preference. like with the polls anons this week that only happened bc an anon said bratty btm mike was obvious and "at most" btm leaning switch, but stating it as fact not opinion. all preferences are opinion for the reasons you said, we only see them until 14 and havent seen their sex life. usually anything else said is just response to the first rudeness, or thats what i see. theres an acc on here who used to comment on btm will fics calling for btm mike instead which i think is very rude for fandom. theres accs on here blatantly posting on the public dash how people who don't prefer subby btm mike are crazy and even not as smart for not seeing it. how is that not rude? then the multiple times spicy polls anons have been rude instead of just sending asks about their preference for mike and making the experience better for themselves. did you see the polls anon that said something and added "anyway btm mike >>>" months ago? i dont think i've seen that from a btm will? i tried really hard to think if i had! but it's those kinds of behavior we dont need amongst us bc no one is better. i follow lots of spicy bylers and havent seen that from btm will or switch bylers, they just post about their preference. i've made moots with people who came from twitter who said it would happen there too, they'd respond to rudeness for not "getting" sub mike and suddenly are the bad guys. so they got tired by the behavior and stopped being active. maybe your dash is more peaceful but i dont see will sides of things saying things until prompted. or with every right to offer an opinion to what was said bc this is a public space. i'm surprised you've seen more for the opposing side? tbh you will have people who are extra who are rude in every side of a ship preference but the 'frequency' to me has been the mike side. i was annoyed when i saw the bratty anon on spicy polls bc i knew it was going to start more annoying discourse that means nothing. how are they shocked people don't share the same preference? thats normal in fandom. you'd have to be new to fandoms to be shocked

it could definitely be that i just don’t follow or see posts like that, though i do follow some really kind people with bottom mike prefs. i’ll take your word for it, but i guess i’d say that even the “anyway bottom mike >” posts come across as tongue in cheek, and again, isn’t it okay to share preferences? it’s a little brash, sure, but it shouldn’t be shocking for people to want to express these prefs in the tag, like you said.

even with the recent anon sharing how surprised they were to find that more people didn’t see mike as a bottom, i get how it could come across as invalidating if they weren’t coming from a place of clearly knowing theyre in the minority of opinions. imagine someone saying that around the dinner table with friends. its funny, its a differing take, sure its a little over confident but it’s not rude to anyone - even with an opposing outlook myself i think it sparks fun conversation when someone else is shocked theyre the odd one out. i’m more curious than offended. i may be naive and giving them the benefit of the doubt, but this is often the tone i perceive when i see pro bottom mike posts. i think they’re pretty aware of what the common opinion is.

2. Isildur lives!! I mean, obviously, I knew he would, but it's nice to get a glimpse of what he's up to. Looks like he's in some sort of creepy cave - maybe he's going to discover Shelob's lair?? I can just see our disaster baby taking shelter in what he thinks is a nice safe cave, only to find it's the home of an ancient menace. That would be so on-brand for him. :P (Maybe that's also part of the reason that he founds Minas Ithil later, if he knows there's something horrible up there up the Spider Stairs that needs guarding against?) Also very excited that he and Arondir seem to be teaming up at some point!

A quick glance at Nazanin's social media suggests she's actually left acting in order to focus on her activist work, especially in the wake of the women's rights protests in Iran. I can only respect her for that, but I will be sad to see her go. I got very attached to her and Arondir. In the meantime, until the show inevitably dashes my hopes, can I just pretend that Bronwyn is FINE, SHE'S FINE ACTUALLY, she's happily setting up her new herb garden in Pelargir and refusing to have anything to do with this ring nonsense?

5. Okay, I love all the jokes about how Annatar is just Sauron in a wig (*gasp* "King Philip II of Spain!!"), but I don't think what we're seeing in the trailer is Annatar. All the shots of him look like they're happening during the fall of Ost-in-Edhil, by which point his cover's blown and he has no more reason to mask himself. (In fact, he might be quite happy to reveal himself in all his glory?) I think that's just Sauron. Which isn't to say that Annatar, or something like him, won't feature, I just think it won't be Charlie Vickers playing him. He's Sauron in his "true" form, if you like.

6. Oh, Celebrimbor. ;___; I was hoping we'd get to hang onto him for a few series, but I don't think that's going to happen. Eregion definitely looks like it's had it this series, in which case he won't be far behind. Unless maybe this series will just end with his capture, as a sort of cliffhanger, and his actual death won't happen till series 3. That would be cruel. That's probably what I would do if I was writing it tbh. I hope they at least give us a few good scenes of him and Narvi before shit goes down.

7. No sign of Ciarán Hinds yet, though I was keeping an eye out. Do we have any idea yet who he's playing?

8. I've seen other people on here suggesting that Durin's line about an ancient evil returning might be about the Balrog, rather than Sauron, and I can see that. Canonically, Khazad-dûm isn't destroyed until the Third Age and the reign of Durin VI, but maybe they're planning to shift that back, as they have with the arrival of the Istari. Or maybe the Dwarves will just manage to beat it back into dormancy for another age? There's a shot of Durin III with what looks like a Ring of Power, and I've seen someone else suggesting that maybe the Dwarves will use it in their fight against the Balrog? (Might I hope that we're going to get the version where it's Celebrimbor who gives Durin that ring...? Please I just love Celebrimbor and the Dwarves so much. ;____;)

9. General joy at seeing more of Durin and Disa!!! If Disa wants to be a heroine, I support her. Likewise, If she still wants to go all Lady Macbeth and get her husband to murder his father for the crown, I still support her. ❤️

SAURON. :DDD I know you Haladriel shippers are all enjoying that first shot of him looking all rough and teary-eyed, but I'm hoping we're maybe going to get some flashback scenes of his backstory? Maybe that's him just post-War of Wrath and going "oh shit I need to dig myself out of this fucking hole fast". I would love some flashbacks showing us his dynamic with Morgoth or Aulë. (A scene with Eönwë is, alas, probably a forlon hope.) Or what about that time he was bullied by Lúthien? :D

I fear Nori and Gandalf (we're okay to call him Gandalf, right?) are not going to have a wonderful time in Rhûn. 😬 So far it looks pretty bare and desert-y, so I guess a trip to the vineyards of Dorwinion is not on the itinerary? :( No sign of the other Harfoots, so maybe they just plan to focus on Nori's journey until she inevitably returns. Which makes sense, but if that's the case, I'll miss my girl Poppy. :'(

12. Combat Galadriel is still going strong, I see. Mixed feelings on that one. On the one hand, I love Combat Gal and I love her more every time some internet neckbeard posts his cold take on Reddit. On the other hand, since she gave up both her sword and Finrod's dagger by the end of s1, I was hoping we'd start to lean more into her sorceress side. Still plenty of time for that, I suppose, and it's not like the two are mutually exclusive.

favorite thing about them: I love how much PIZZAZ he adds to the early game! How can I not like a character with such a flamboyant, demanding personality whose very presence is enough to make everyone react with shock, contempt, laughter, and awe? Navarre is an ass, but a necessary ass to carry the early narrative and add so much excitement to it. I cannot help but giggle to myself everytime he appears. AND THEN, all that character growth in IVA towards becoming a better, more self-aware ghostie. Ohhh I love he so muuuch~

least favorite thing about them: Definitely the unnecessary perversion in IVA. Enough said.

favorite line: The "dawdling Casualries" line will always hold a special place in my heart, but I am also really fond of the stuff he says when you speak with him during the training drills in one of the rest spots,

Bad edit aside, can't forget the actual bros, Navarre and Gaston lmao. I really enjoyed their sibling relationship and it opened up so much insight into their familial life and personal struggles. I'm so so happy they got to rekindle at the enddd, it was so sweet

OTP: Everyone knows that I am the sole resident of the Issachar x Navarre Crack Ship Kingdom!! Idgaf that they've never canonically met nor even know of each other's existence, the POTENTIAL between them is enough to keep me content and well fed! We support random rarepairs in this house!

I also really like Flynn x Navarre too and they're my second fave Navarre ship, for much the same reasons!

nOTP: Needless to say, my NOtps would be pairing Navarre with his brother or any of the IVA kids. Eeeugh. Enough said.

random headcanon: It's something I've been wanting to analyze in more depth, and IDK how much of this is actually canon or headcanon considering, but I very much fancy the idea of Navarre always having close connections with the Samurai seniors and keeping close tabs on the Rite and new inductions. He's very astute with the going-ons in Samurai business and likely has been anxiously watching them for quite some time.

unpopular opinion: I understand that Navarre is a very unlikeable character, and he's supposed to be! But it honestly does get really bothersome seeing how much dismissal, if not outright hate, he gets in the fandom. Navarre IS an important character within the early game! It is his very antics that adds the necessary tension and tone needed to carry the early narrative and worldbuilding. It does admittedly make it hard for me to approach other SMTIV fans because I like this bean so much.

But that is okay. I am perfectly content with those who seek out, stick by, and enjoy my bean musings. :)
