Weekly Roundup: Prompt Reminders
TSUKIHIME
Arcueid becoming Neco Arc played completely straight as some sort of horrofic Jekyll and Hyde style transformation.
Kohaku starts a recruitment drive for new maids for the mansion, and everyone (regardles of gender or even species) in Misaki Town finds themselves drafted - whether they like it or not
Some sort of haunted mansion story involving the Tohno Household - with Akiha, Kohaku and Hisui being the ghosts. Three back alley heroines decide to ghost hunt over there and find themselves having their personality altered until they become the House's old members in body and soul.
SHIKI and Kohaku. Make it fucked up. Bring in Akiha if you want too, all I want is some fucked up moments with them
FSN
Rin gets revenge on the "fat cow" Luvia by turning her into a fat-titted cow girl (with white and black skin and all) (Should be a mental transformation too)
Rin brings Mitsuzuri over for sex only to make her do ageplay as Rin's 10 year old little sister who looks up to her and is always cheerful and who'll she'll never be separated from and their happy childhood will last forever
FGO
Oberon gets fucked until he starts calling himself Titania.
noncon, incest, I can't take this anymore I need to see Duryodhana's stupid loser ass get nonconed by Bhima or by a mob I don't care he just deserves to get put in his place (bonus points if you use his line for getting hit by np)
All the Sakuraface servants get summoned all at the same time sharing Sakura's body. Sakura's many many new headmates get up to comedic hijinks as they spend so much time fighting each other for control that Sakura's actually not really stopped from doing anything.
Cu gets into an argument with salter rider maid supreme, decides to one up her at maiding. Not one hell of a butler, one hell of a MAID. He is wearing a MAID dress and doing maid stuff to be clear hear. Shenanigans ensue. He can fuck around along the way if he wants. But he must defeat Salter at maid shit. Any version of cu but setanta is cool for this.
incest, smut, Percival and melusine fucking nasty. the more fucked up the better.
Chaldea is sent to yet another singularity in the Fuyuki Grail War from FSN, but oh they were not expecting who got summoned as Berserker here. Now Everyone, especially Guda, has to deal with Guda themselves being the Berserker of this timeline. And the Berserker Guda doesnt even seem to realize anythings off about this. Just what that actually means is up to the writer as is who Zerkers master is but I would humbly request Artoria still be Shirous servant and that this all take place post LB6. For Reasons. (There are two gudas just to be clear, Master Guda and Berserker Guda)
So Castoria is kinky and horny. We all know that. But I HIGHLY doubt she got any sort of sex ed (yet alone kink ed) growing up, considering... everything. So my request! Is for Castoria to discover something about her sexuality! It could be a new kink, it could be learning the name of one of her fetishes which she thought too weird to be widespread, it could be attending a bdsm 101 class, it could be confronting an actual sexual experience to her preconceptions on kink and/or sex, hell it could even just be discovering that she can practice kink without the sex part if she doesn't feel like it. Anything along these lines!
smut, Marisbury fucks Kirschtaria or Roman/Solomon with the gun he keeps in his desk drawer

fuck my entire life
Okay first of all covering my bases: these are just meant as an analysis of the characters preferences and are not to be meant as an endorsement of any of the contents within. As far as I’m aware all of the characters depicted within are 18+.
Also i said forcefem so like. Obviously if you’re not into the force part of the fem don’t read any of these. Curate your own experiences i’m not your mom
"mia why were you at the devil's sacrament" you have no idea how sparse and desperate the pickings are here
All of these links are gonna be sadpanda, so. If you don’t have a sadpanda acc and managed to get FSN running i’m honestly impressed
ANYWAY, here’s a list that I said as a joke but had to like. Actually write, because I am incapable of saying no to any older lesbian who asks firmly
SABER: she basically only reads fluff so sweet it makes your teeth rot or melodramatic mid aughts shoujo manga angst, no in between. Also I’m pretty sure because of her time period she has an incest thing, probably…? Don’t quote me on that. At the very least I don’t think it’s a deal-breaker for her
https://exhentai.org/g/977852/80a219a543
https://exhentai.org/g/1902146/4917989bc4
RIN: almost entirely so she can still maintain that she’s straight, not realising “i wish Shirou were a girl she’d be hotter” is Not a Straight Thing to say. She can’t actually use the computer so she has to go in disguise to Comiket, not actually realizing that her disguise magic sticks out like a sore thumb amongst non-magic users and literally every servant / master in fuyuki knows what she’s into
https://exhentai.org/g/1974562/e91d9717d8/ (also incest)
SHIROU: He doesn’t actually have enough of a self-identity or self-awareness to really *get* why he finds it so compelling, i think. Mostly likes ones where even though it’s being pushed forward by someone else on dubious consent she’s actually really into it for reasons she can’t explain. Lots of themes about personhood and dolls that play into that kind of lack of self-image?
https://exhentai.org/g/2319867/64c317e7cd/
SAKURA: REALLY problematic BDSM hardcore gruel and / or Incest. There’s not a doubt in my mind that Sakura has a weird siscon incest thing she’s just that kind of girl. Probably a fujoshi too actually
I don’t actually read enough of this type to link of an example sorry
ILLYA: i don’t actually think she reads porn she just looks at snuff films and claps…
is what you think i would say you fucking anime-onlies but she actually reads exactly one series where the younger brother despite becoming her doll decides that she loves her anyway and wants to stay with her forever and the older sister actually gets to grow up and have a body that matches her age and she feels miserable every time
https://exhentai.org/g/2078188/de4e6f409a/ (listen, I don’t know how to put this. A lot of the FSN characters are into incest)
RIDER: NTR. she reads NTR.
https://exhentai.org/g/2250555/7ab6b8228c/
ARCHER: Estrogen can still save her but I don’t think she knows being trans exists that’s the plot of UBW
CASTER: her taste is a perfect indistinguishable synthesis of both a porn-addicted /d/ guy (straight) and a porn-addicted /lgbt/ yumejoshi (also straight). I’m like 99% sure she commissions hypno captions
GILGAMESH: he’s read everything under both the “m:feminization” and “m:tomgirl” tags because he’s the king of chasers
here’s a list of forcefem doujins various FSN characters would read & here is a copy of that list in case you accidentally throw it in the gabarge

Continuation of this ask
Bedivere x Arturia - Ship it
What made you ship it?
TBH I was one of those few people who shipped it based on that like 2 second scene at the end of FSN. The Camelot Singularity just reinforced it. A lot came from the original Arthurian legend as well. Bedivere is similarly insanely loyal as he is in the game, and like in Fate lore, he’s been with Arthur longer than most.
What are your favorite things about the ship?
He journeyed so far for so long just to see her smile OH MY GOD BRB IM SOBBING HOLY CRAP CAN YOU JUST IMAGINE—
I’m a sucker for intensely loyal knights and I will always be. ALWAYS.
THE ANGST POTENTIALLLLLL but also THE FLUFF POTENTIALLLL
This man loved his king so bloody intensely. So strongly that his desire to see her survived the test of time. To be loved so much, so unconditionally for a thousand and a half years? Gods, that’s just too much, man. ;-;
And I absolutely adore how much it means to him to remain her knight, even if he tends to be insecure about the limb that he lacks, and how he believes he is nothing special in comparison with everyone else. I love that Arturia recognizes his strength and his worth, even if he himself can’t see it.
THE ENTIRE CONFRONTATION IN THE THRONE ROOM LET ME TELL YOU I WAS CRYING SOOOOO HARD THROUGHOUT THAT IK NIT EVEN KIDDING
THIS, the MINDBREAK Arturia goes through when she tries to remember
Tumblr media
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
I think that THIS SHIP NEEDS MORE LOVE AND I REALLY OUGHT TO CONTRIBUTE
All the other answers below cut!
Irisviel x Arturia - Ship It
What made you ship it?
I think I was bound to the moment I watched Fate Zero. When I was younger it was overshadowed by the feels Diarturia brought and not to mention Kiritsugu and Iri but this ship is damn good on its own.
What sold it though, is the argument she and Kiritsugu have in Episode 16, right after the last Saber and Lancer fight. Irisviel, who we all know loves her husband so much, forced Kiritsugu to answer Saber. That’s just how important Arturia was to her.
What are your favorite things about the ship?
I think they both found in each other something they themselves lack. It’s actually kind of funny. Arturia is human, and yet she’s so heavily consumed by her ideals that she doesn’t act like one. Irisviel, on the other hand, is not human, and yet everything that she does and wants to do is exactly that.
Throughout the anime, Being with Iri puts Saber into such mundane, ordinary situations that it teaches her to live. The suits, the escorting, being a passenger instead of a driver, appreciating the water by the seashore, etc. It's like the woman wants to leave her with some appreciation for the world, especially when she herself doesn’t have all that much time left.
On Irisviel’s part, I think she found in Saber the companionship she would have wanted from Kiritsugu during the last few days she remained on the Earth. Arturia had been the perfect knight in shining armor, taking Irisviel around to see the world as much as they could amidst a war. If they’d just had more time, I have no doubt Arturia would have taken Irisviel even more places, you know?
It makes me sad :( but in a good way.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
I’m pretty sure Irisviel would wear the pants in this relationship ya know what I mean? Hahaha
Much as I love this ship, I think that it becomes all the more valuable because of how it ended. To each other, they were this brief, fleeting feeling of happiness. A love that was so short and yet so strong.
Shirou x Arturia - Don't Ship it
Hooooooo boi. Hear me out, mkay ? But this is just my personal opinion so pls no hate
Why don't you ship it?
I’m gonna start out by saying I don’t think I need to, tbh. Hahaha there’s enough content for this ship being fed to us, so my liking it or not is immaterial. But the reason is well...I watched FSN and Shirou x Saber was...not the best thing about it (the best thing about it was the soundtrack omg iconic) Shirou comes off as a bit of a misogynist, and kind of immature, and the whole time it’s like he doesn’t really listen to Arturia at all. Plus, it’s kind of like he just likes her looks at times. The final deciding factor was the date scene. That was just unbearable.
But then I go online and I see all this good stuff about them. And my friend ships them cause they’re canon, right? So, I’m like okay, what if I judged too quickly, let’s play the VN...and I did. And I still didn’t like him with Saber at all. So, I played the next route, watched the next anime, trying to redeem 1st route Shirou as much as I could but it just....didn’t happen. I think I can safely say I tried to like them. I really did. But no.
What would have made you like it?
Removing the misogyny and the immaturity and letting him listen to her. Like he should have.
At no point in their interactions did it feel like they were standing on equal ground, ever. Either he was speaking over her or the opposite. So less of that and a lot more respect.
And when you compare this relationship to what he has with like with his other two love interests, it makes this ship fall completely flat. It’s pretty...bland and honestly kind of shallow. It’s like the story just tells you they’re in love but there’s no answer to why they’re in love. Make him fall in love with her for her without necessarily forcing his need to save everyone on her.
Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?
I may not like how they got there, but in the end Arturia was able to pass peacefully.
I acknowledge that Shirou was important and made a change in her life.
That ending scene where they meet after so long, NGL is pretty sweet.
A lot of my headcanons happen post-Shirou, so there’s also that.
Archer x Rin -Ship it
What made you ship it?
Tsundere x Cynic has gotta be one of the best dynamics out there.
What are your favorite things about the ship?
His true identity. The fact that she dragged him all the way across space and time to return as her Servant, that’s just bloody fate at work.
The fact that he keeps acknowledging she’s a strong Master despite his later conduct in UBW.
Archer is ridiculously crass and Rin is easily riled up. In the Fifth Holy Grail War, they had the best Master-Servant relationship period. They have this explosive chemistry that just works so well.
When he smiles at her at the end of the route, and you just know that Tohsaka’s gonna be stubborn enough to make sure Shirou doesn’t end up going down the exact same path.
I think it’s sweet that he ends up going along with her whims because he secretly likes housework.
THE PRINCESS CARRY/ CATCH. MAN OH MAN.
Unlike the previous ship mentioned here, these two actually stand on equal ground with each other.
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
I don't think it's exactly an unpopular opinion, but I think they really ought to have more official content y'know? Rin is important in every route, and Archer's the actual climax of UBW and also entirely significant across three routes.
Medusa x Sakura - Don't ship it
Why don't you ship it?
Because while journeying through the routes, I always saw Rider as more of a best friend/sort of motherly figure to Sakura.
Or that Rider fulfilled the kind of relationship that she wanted to have with Rin, while Sakura unknowingly filled the void Medusa's sisters left in her life. I thought she was more of a guardian angel really, not a romantic interest. Kind of like how Heracles was to Illya.
What would have made you like it?
If I could maybe forget about the threesome with Shirou and the implied romantic feelings Rider has for him in Ataraxia that would be great.
Despite not shipping it, do you have anything positive to say about it?
Sakura deserves all the happiness in the world and I really do believe that Rider could fulfill that.
This ship DEFINITELY DEFINITELYYYYYY NEEDS MORE CONTENT
Diarmuid x Cú - Ship it
What made you ship it?
oooh this probably sounds surprising since based on my content you'd think, no i dont ship this BUT I DOOOOOOO (i just happen to hc them as bros more often)
Honestly what did make me ship it is the parallels.
What are your favorite things about the ship?
IMO They have the biggest potential for hurt/comfort amongst all the ships mentioned here.
They can help each other get through their trauma. Their whole relationship would be extremely healing and supportive.
I love that Diarmuid seems to have idolized Cú Chulainn at some point and honestly who wouldn't be honored to stand beside him, no?
They could be up to the funniest shenanigans because Cú is chaos and Diarmuid would absolutely be an enabler because when he isn't angst-ing he's super damn chill.
Bros being bros hahahah...unless?
Is there an unpopular opinion you have on your ship?
Not really. Maybe that I think Lancer Diar and Cascu would get along better and Saber Diar and Lancer Cu would also get along better but honestly any form is good this ship is good

Fate/Stay Night Review
I've been meaning to get around to this for a while, so this post will contain my thoughts on Fate/Stay Night. I'll be going in order of how you're supposed to play the routes. Massive spoilers btw. Also this is copied over from Twitter, so sorry for any weird formatting.
Keep in mind I enjoyed every route, so any negative points I bring up never made me think the route wasn't worth reading. That said, UBW > HF > Fate, so we'll be starting with my least favorite route.
There's 2 reasons why the Fate route is my least favorite. The first is that is has to explain a lot, so it feels like not much happens in it compared to the other two routes. The second is Shirou's "girls can't fight" bullshit. I can't stand Shirou in the 1st half of the route.  Shirou does get better, but this is probably my least favorite version of him. I cannot stand every moment he tries to hold Saber back from fighting and almost gets himself killed because "girls can't fight." It is extremely aggravating.
That said, Shirou is fantastic in the second half of the route. The Fate route is Saber's story, and he plays the perfect part in it. His dream of being a super hero goes perfectly with her wish of being a great king. Seeing these ideologies clash, then come together, is amazing. It's why I like the Shirou/Saber ship despite Shirou/Rin being my favorite. These two were practically made for each other. Last Episode only adds to this, and it made me retroactively like the Fate route more. Saber's ending was beautiful and their eventual reunion even more so.
Illya was also great as a villain. I do think Gilgamesh and Kirei both have routes where they shine better as villains, so when I think "the villain of the Fate route," it's Ilya who comes to mind. Berserker was the perfect threat, and the two together were genuinely terrifying.
Summed up thoughts on the Fate route: Good starting point. A bit slow, and Shirou is very annoying in the first half, but the Saber/Shirou dynamic in the second half makes the route worth playing. 7/10.
Time for my favorite route: Unlimited Blade Works. I fucking adore this route. When I think "Fate/Stay Night," this is the route that comes to mind. If I were to recommend one route, it would be this one. I even plan on watching the anime for it at some point.
The main reason I love this route is Shirou. UBW Shioru specifically is one of my favorite Fate characters. He is confronted with a massive challenge to his ideals. He's pretty much shown they're flawed. But rather than toss them aside, he strengthens his convictions. He denies his future self, determined to be different. Yeah, his ideals might have flaws, but why should that matter? Carrying on Kiritsugu's dream is meaningful to him. The pain is worth saving those he can. Even if it's a thankless, miserable task, he won't turn away from it.
Oh, and let's talk about Archer. I love him. Seeing a pessimistic side of Shirou, a potential result of his ideals, was fascinating. I was genuinely shocked when the twist happened, and it made me deeply appreciate Archer's character. Archer is another of my favorite F/SN chars.
Now, let's talk about my favorite F/SN character, Rin. Rin is great. She was trained to understand and accomplish what has to be done, but has a soft spot not unlike Shirou's that leads her to help others. She had a painful upbringing, but doesn't regret a second of it.
She is the perfect foil for Shirou. She recognizes the pain his ideals are putting him through, but rather than force him to throw them away, she decides to stay with him to make sure he doesn't push himself too far. She tries to help Shriou learn to enjoy himself. Shirou/Rin is my favorite ship in the VN for this reason. They compliment each other so well. Their personalities clash in a way that lets them both grow, and they're genuinely cute together, though you can say that last part about any of the 3 main Shirou ships.
The villains are also great. Caster isn't the same type of threat as Illya/Berserker, but her backstory and dynamic with her Master is really interesting to see. I enjoyed her moments on screen. Gilgamesh was the perfect final boss for this route though. Specifically for Shirou. Gilgamesh' powers match Shirou's reality marble perfectly. Infinite Noble Phantasms. Gilgamesh calls Shirou fake, but that leads to Shirou showing how an imitation can outclass the original. It's such a smart hero/villain dynamic, and the perfect end to Shirou's story in UBW.
Saber even gets some closure in this route, though not as much as in Fate. She gets to be Rin's Servant at the end (which I adored btw), and once again chooses to destroy the girl, moving on from her past. Also, she lives in the good ending which makes me happy.
I also need to talk about Illya. Her scene with Berserker is one of her best scenes in the entire VN. She's barely on screen in this route compared to the other routes, but somehow she made just as much of an impact with that time. I felt so bad for her in that last scene.
Summed up thoughts on the UBW route: This route is where all the characters shone their brightest. Shirou's ideals are handled perfectly, almost every Servant gets the attention they deserve, and the writing is overall high quality the entire route. 9/10.
Finally, Heaven's Feel...I think my thoughts on this route will be the most controversial, as I have very mixed feelings.
I do want to say this first. I love Sakura. She is a fantastic character, and she deserves the world. I'm glad she gets the spotlight in this route.
I also think Kirei was at his best this route. His backstory, along with his final confrontation with Shirou, were both extremely well written. He went from a despicable villain to a despicable written I love to hate. He almost stole the show as much as Sakura did, honestly.
Rider was great this route. I love the twist that Sakura is her true master, and her protective nature over Sakura was great to see. This is the only route where she manages to stand her ground against Saber for a decent period of time, too. I'm glad she lives to the end.
The highlight of the route, however, has to be Sakura and Rin's bond. Learning that they were sisters, and seeing them slowly and awkwardly get closer, is fantastic. That final confrontation between the two of them blew me away with the spectacle & Rin using the second sorcery. Of course, the hug that ended the fight was the best part. Rin realizing she can't kill Sakura after all, despite everything she said to Shirou, was beautiful. Sakura's horror at thinking she killed her sister, showing she's not a full monster yet, was tragically heartwarming.
Them bringing the sorceries in with Illya and Rin was nice. I like how we got an epilogue that took place two years after the final battle rather than a few months. There is a lot to like about this route.
...But there's also a lot I don't like.
Zouken and Assassin are just...okay villains. I don't think they're terrible, but they're not as interesting as any of the other villains in F/SN.
My main complaint is that this route introduced too much. So many elements are here that aren't even touched on in previous routes. Zouken, true Assassin, the crest worms, the true Holy Grail, Angru Mainyu, these are all elements of the route that I'm just supposed to accept only come into play under these circumstances. Sometimes it feels like they came up with it all after the other two routes were written. None of them are badly written per se, it just feels so out of nowhere that I couldn't fully get into the story here.
As for what I do think is badly written...I don't like Shirou in this route. He feels more selfish than in the others, often pushing aside others' feelings. The main moment that comes to mind is when Illya goes with Sakura. When Shirou finds her, he slaps her and yells at her, not accepting her feelings of wanting the end of her life to be meaningful. And there is no way to escape her death. The route makes that clear. Shirou also throws away his ideals for Sakura, which I don't like. The route before this one had him stick to his ideals despite being given evidence of the despair it will lead to. Yet here he tosses them aside without that, simply for one person.
Maybe badly written was too harsh. Shirou's fine, I like him more than in the first half of the Fate route, but he just doesn't seem to fit with the other instances of Shirou, and there were often times he frustrated me. Again, I did love his confrontation with Kirei though.
Now for the romance of this route. Shirou/Sakura. I'm sorry, but...I'm not a fan of this one. It's cute, even made me emotional at times. I think these two can have a great relationship. The thing is, I don't like how it happens here specifically. I think these two are way too dependent on each other, to the point that one can't live without the other. Just look at the bad ending where Rin kills Sakura and Shirou gives up entirely, or the normal ending where Sakura wastes away her life after Shirou's death. There's even a physical dependence due to the state of Shirou's body at the end of the route. It's honestly worrying how much they need one another.
I think they can grow past this, and I'm sure they do since the true end is a happy one. I don't hate their ship. It's my least favorite of the three, but I can easily see it being someone's favorite. Hell, I know someone for who it is. The ship isn't awful, just has some issues.
Back to the route as a whole, it is certainly the most ambitious, but I think they got carried away at times. It's certainly more geared toward horror as well, especially with those bad endings. Not that that's a bad thing, even if I'm not often into horror.
Summed up thoughts on the HF route: A spectacular finale to the VN, but it has a few hiccups along the way. There are a lot of great character moments and interesting ideas that make it worth the time. The true ending is beautiful as well. 8/10.
Overall thoughts on F/SN: A great time that I would recommend to anyone who can get it working on their computer. Fantastic characters and cool concepts drive what can be just decent writing at times, and the high points are really high. Definitely worth the lows. 8/10.
Quick add on for my thoughts on the prequel, Fate/Zero: An amazing first half that got me attached to so many characters, but it falls apart in the second half due to Gen Urobuchi's more problematic writing tendencies. Those have been discussed to death, so I won’t go into detail on them here, Still, the show has enough moments that make it worth watching. 6/10.
That's my experience with Fate so far. I'm about halfway through the first arc of FGO, so I'll make a thread summarizing my thoughts on each singularity when the time comes. Also I want to read Fate/Hollow Ataraxia if I can. Overall I can say I’m glad I got into this franchise, and I’m excited to engage in more Fate content.
Anyway, this review took me 80 minutes to write, and another 15 to copy over here. Clearly I’m pretty passionate about this franchise.

sometimes i think ufotable made a really big mistake making shinji a butt monkey in the unlimited blade works anime because turning him into a joke about how much of a weak whiny incel makes him seem harmless by having him be undercut by men who are far stronger than he is (gilgamesh, lancer, berserker). those men will always be there to give him his just desserts in a humorous manner, instead of how nasu dealt with him in the vn. nasu made shinji feel like a very personal and intimate villain. shinji might not be physically strong in comparison to a servant or to his heroic and human counterpart shirou, but he’s still very scary in a different sense. he’s scary in the way he thinks of other people and how he expresses those thoughts in his actions.
the vn gives us an insight to how shinji’s mind works for the very first time when he meets gilgamesh in the matou worm basement. shinji ponders about how useless rider was and that it’s her fault he failed the first time. then his thoughts shift towards the unnamed “thief” (revealed to be sakura in heaven’s feel) who stole his place, and then naturally that logic train trails into thoughts about his mother. the fact shinji makes a connection between all of these individuals denotes a heinous misogynistic streak that’s been instilled within him by zouken’s teachings. and that manifests in the way he blames the women in his life for his situation, failings, and neglect rather than attempt to peer into himself and sift through his behavior and beliefs and hold zouken accountable for his own abusive upbringing of both shinji himself and sakura.
the thing to understand here is that as zouken’s abuse victim shinji is also terrified of blaming zouken for anything or challenging him in any manner. but there’s also the fact that shinji seems incapable of understanding zouken really is at fault for everything that is happening. the patriarchal values of the matou family naturally teach the idea that the patriarch is always right, and as zouken has been the sole permanent patriarch for centuries, with other men being his subordinates, it’s clear that zouken devised that system for his own benefit. but because shinji sees himself as the rightful heir of the matou name, rather than sakura thanks to those very same teachings, he is the future undisputed and incontestable patriarch in his mind. he can never be wrong, and the very idea that he is at fault is not just insulting but patronizing to the most humiliating degree. if that isn’t worrying enough, there is the logical flip side to consider: if the patriarch is always right, and if the patriarch is always flawless, then the women must be wrong. and we can see that in the way the women in shinji’s life were treated, which is why we find ourselves in the matou worm basement when shinji meets gilgamesh for the first time.
it’s in the matou basement where shinji’s mother died. after learning shinji was born with atrophied magical circuits, zouken wasted no time throwing her in there as food for the worms as punishment for failing to gestate a proper heir. zouken did not stop to consider whether he really was the last magus of his line, and because it’s not a doubt zouken would ever have about himself, it’s not a doubt shinji would ever have either. after all, his grandfather is flawless. the fault would never be pinned on zouken, nor would byakuya, shinji’s father, ever be blamed for also giving defective genetic material. with these standards, the only culprit they could ever find is shinji’s mother. take a look at how i phrased it the first time. “shinji’s mother failed to gestate a proper heir.” “failed to gestate.”  the implications here could not be more clear, and could not be more disturbing. shinji considers women having worth in only a single dimension: women exist to be objects. that is all they have ever been to the matous, single-use broodmares who don’t have a place in the formal matters of matou magecraft. they are unworthy of that involvement as if it was sheer biological fact. so when sakura, a girl, is named heir rather than him, he justifies that as sakura being a thief who stole shinji’s rightful position from him on purpose, rather than an abused, scared, injured girl who didn’t want any of the terrible things inflicted upon her. moreover, shinji doesn’t see the matou training as something horrific. if anything, he’s jealous of sakura’s treatment. he blames her for his neglect because she is a woman, who full of fault must also be full of selfishness and malice towards him. shinji is incapable of understanding sakura’s condition is appalling and inhumane, namely because he doesn’t understand what it actually feels like, nor does he want to.
that then leads to the more difficult things to explore in the visual novel: his rape of sakura. because shinji only understands women as sexual objects, he develops violent vindictive tendencies towards sakura in the form of rape. to shinji, inflicting sexual abuse is his way of declaring superiority over sakura. in his mind, because she is a woman, she must be put in her place and answer to him and his demands. shinji rationalizes it as because he is a man, he is a rightful heir who deserves power, and because sakura is a woman, she is what power is meant to be used upon. shinji is capable of twisting the narrative between him and sakura in any number of ways to preserve that dynamic. in public, because she is his younger sister then he has control over her activities and social life. in private, she isn’t his younger sister. she’s his property, or how he puts it, a doll. it isn’t difficult to see why he would think of rin the same way he thinks of sakura. the same feelings of jealousy and entitlement he directs towards sakura are the same exact feelings he directs to rin, and inevitably any and every other women he interacts with.
when shinji is running away from the einzbern castle, we get one final look at what goes on in his head before meeting gilgamesh again. shinji is furious, violent, obsessively thinking to himself that every single person other than himself is lowly, beneath him, and getting in his way. when he runs into gilgamesh, shinji berates him for allowing him to get hurt by lancer. shinji calls him useless, and rages on about how they can’t win now that there is no vessel for the lesser grail... until gilgamesh stabs a hole in shinji’s stomach with his bare hands and implants it within him. gilgamesh had made it clear to shinji in the matou basement. gilgamesh thinks of the humans of this era as vermin to be exterminated. either a few worthy will survive the grail’s apocalypse, or mankind will be judged to be wholly superfluous and ruinous if no one does. in his arrogance, shinji never considered that he would be part of the sacrifices. that is a palpable irony, that shinji would be betrayed by his own selfish and misanthropic worldview, and grotesquely to boot.
knowing all of this, there’s nothing funny or harmless about shinji’s character or his internal logic. because with what we find out in heaven’s feel, the case is no longer that he intends to do bad things but is so incompetent there is no feasible way he could ever do them so long as stronger more virtuous men are there to stop him. the question is that he’s already done terrible things, and has been getting away with them for years. not just him, mind you, but zouken, the person whose approval he desires and the person he emulates the most. There is a final observation to be made with that in mind. That shinji seeks approval and validation from men other than zouken. He seeks approval and validation from shirou. but paradoxically, he also seeks shirou’s complete obedience as well. shinji wants to consider shirou a friend, but is incapable of treating him as such, because you cannot be friends if you always put a degree of separation between “patriarch” and “rabble”. the misogynistic double standard falls apart here, because not only is gender concerned, but class is as well.
going back to an earlier point though, it’s important to remember that even if shinji hadn’t already abused sakura, he’d be no less dangerous for wanting to abuse rin. predatory intent is signifying of predatory thought, and potential predatory action. the very notion that harmful thoughts exist is in and of itself a breach of human safety. and a lack of safety is in itself violent and in need of serious preventive action. which is why shinji cannot be a joke in one anime adaptation and be depicted more seriously and threatening in another.

Fate/hollow ataraxia Part 1 - Slice of Life for the Emiya Household (Phase 1)
Tumblr media
I never realised Fate/stay night has a sequel!! Apparently it’s pretty light hearted? We shall see~ That horror story in the beginning though, loll such a typical one. Ooh, so this is set half a year later~ or not!! I was thinking this is another horror story or something but is this like an alternate Fifth Holy Grail War or something? Not sure how to feel about the new perspective from a Master that comes from the Association alongside with a Servant that lives to kill? Not surprised she misunderstood him since he didn’t clarify that he wasn’t the one who killed the people in that house but hmmm not sure what to think of this match up. On the other hand, these Edelfelt sisters who are Masters of the same coin and thus can have a normal Saber and Saber Alter is really cool!! These alternate Rin and Sakura look so beautiful! Ooh so it was just Shirou’s “dream”? LMAO at Rin wanting to make a mini gem sword in Illya’s castle and then failing and causing a massive explosion that should have killed normal people but she came out totally fine, just extremely poor due to all the money she used to try and make it (to show off to others in London that she’s not a country bumpkin). That was hilarious, especially with the silly faces they had before everything went wrong hahahahah. Anyway, I guess this story is based after an ending that is similar to what happened in Heaven’s Feel without the romance etc? Or maybe it’s just one culminating all the good stuff together since Illya is alive and with Taiga haha. Regardless, I love it. I love seeing everyone in a more casual setting now, and it’s so cute how Rider tried her best to make miso soup, I think I’m really looking forward to seeing all the Servants more haha. Ooh, so Rin’s failure nearly turned this into a world where all the possible outcomes of this town were drawn in, so I guess that’s what Shirou’s dream was about then? How the town is going to become convoluted because of these possibilities?
Tumblr media
LOL at Shirou’s “subtle” way of asking Caster whether she’s been feeling the same instinct as Rider and Saber on wanting to attack other Servants (since the Holy Grail War seems to have restarted?), he legit just asked if she’s going back to acting as crazy as she used to be hahahah. Honestly though, Caster without her hood is so beautiful, I’m so glad we get to see more of that here! It’s kinda cool how Shirou was the victor of the war by forcing everyone to kinda stop fighting rather than killing them all. But yeah, seeing Caster enjoying a peaceful tranquil life with the person she loves is nice, since that’s all she really wanted anyway. Makidera Kaede seems like an interesting character, she’s a bit like Taiga in how reckless she is, but Taiga is much cuter haha. I loved how Rider changed the channel to news when Taiga was watching anime hahaha, Rider’s like an unintentional bully haha. LOLLL, is Makidera a fan of Rin as well? Hahaahha,I loved how she asked Shirou where she could get the same pendant, and when she realised it was like a gift from Rin she hit him and said he doesn’t deserve her lmao. Really though, the events and ! stuff is quite confusing lol, I thought you could do all the events before going forward with the story but it seems that you can’t….guess I’ll just roll with it using a random walkthrough and see how it goes lol. LMAO at Kaede’s teaching directions at track and field, she legit just told the runners that are falling behind to knock down the ones in front of them hahahah. Himuro seems like the mysterious mystic type that can read minds tbh hahaha. I’m surprised she’s in the high jumping team. Yukika seems like the nice manager of the team~ Oh dang, Assassin is still guarding the gate to Ryuudou Temple? At least he sees ghosts passing by all the time so I guess he’s not bored?🤣 I’m not sure who the white haired girl is, but it’s interesting to see that Fuyuki ends up getting destroyed by these “beasts” that want Shirou to grant their wishes if he doesn’t do things properly??
I find it hilarious that when Shinji tries to get Shirou to skip fifth period, Shirou seriously considers it because Shinji (the picky eater) said he found a place with amazing pasta, so he really wants to try it hahahah, you’re so cute, Shirou! HAHAHA, when Shirou chose to eat lunch with Issei instead of Shinji, that was funny hahaha. Now that Shinji doesn’t have his killing tendencies etc, he’s so much more bearable. I loved it when Shinji ran away half crying and half laughing lmao. I loved his revenge against Shirou and Issei by showing off the amount of girls willing to feed him. Issei and Shinji with their childish fights is hilarious. Seeing Saber so happily talk about her past/hometown fondly rather than as regrets really makes me happy, especially that smile she has!! Now that Sakura and Shirou are reminiscing about how quiet Shirou’s place used to be (in terms of people living there) compared to now where Rider and Saber are there, Sakura lives here on the weekends, Rin occupies a room too, and Taiga comes along with Illya for meals, it really is so lively haha. Aww it was so cute when Sakura said she missed the times they could be alone together~ Honestly, I think the Sakura with no baggage is really cute now haha. HAHAHA, I honestly didn’t expect Lancer to like fishing!! He’s so chill about it too with his snacks lmao, he’s totally fitting in hahaha. Omgg he supplies the fish for the Emiya residence and Shirou didn’t even know!! I can so imagine Taiga stealing all his hard work at the end of the day lmao. Is Kotomine really dead? That’s kinda saddening if he doesn’t appear, I mean, if Zouken gets to stay alive, Kotomine should get screen time tooo~ Lmaoo at Caster complaining about Assassin not wanting to sweep the staircase so she has to do it hahaha. Assassin’s logic is right though!! It’s a waste of her magical energy to make him materialise and do it hahahaa. It’s pretty funny how much Assassin causes trouble for Caster though, I think I’m loving all the slice of life tbh, FSN imo really lacked in developing and putting more time into showing the Servants’ personalities, so I’m glad we get to see this here.
Tumblr media
Hmmm I wonder why Archer snipes Shirou and kills him when he’s trying to pass the bridge to Shinto?🤔 OMG Lancer in casual clothes (not the fisherman one LOL) is so cool!!! Like dang, I knew he’d look great but wow! I hope Archer looks just as good~~ Anyway, that’s the end of Phase 1? Not sure what to think right now since most of it was just slice of life. Not saying it’s bad though! I actually really enjoyed the slice of life more than I thought I would haha, I think the interactions between the characters are really fun and interesting, and it really gives more time for the Servants to shine imo.

Fate/Zero 1 - 25 (FINAL)
Most of these notes stayed intact during Fate/Stay Winter posts, but I’m releasing them in an unedited version here (aside from the dotpoints and read more, of course).
Fate/Zero 1
For some reason, I have it recorded that I’ve watched F/Z ep. 1, but I don’t remember it!  I only remember Saber fighting someonethat’s why I have notes for this ep too.
Ewwwwwww…what’s that in the Macedonian box…?
Oh! Heaven’s Feel is the name of one of the movies that came out this year or last.
LOL, the grandparents of Waver literally refer to him as “Waver”. I thought it was a title. Is it really his name???
I’m very good at making connections between seemingly disconnected things using only the things I know. I predict Kariya’s in for a verrrrrrrry bad time and will probably die in this Grail War, if not go bananas. I already know Rin, Ilya (the Einzbern child) and Sakura are already part of the Fate/ canon, so they’re probably going to fight in a Grail War as well.
Ahhhhhhh! B*stard Archer (that is, Gilgamesh)! He’s hereeeeeeeee!
What’s that counter on the ep title card…? Is it the time until the Grail War…?
Fate/Zero 2
I’ve seen enough spoilers being bandied about that I already know Rider is Alexander the Great.
Like, seriously, why do we call the dude “Waver Velvet”? What’s his real name?
Kiritsugu acts as Ilya’s dad, but…I’m pretty sure he isn’t her dad. Kiritsugu’s surname is Emiya, right? He’s Shirou’s dad, as far as I know. Then again, I only know what I know from being around Fate/ fans for so long.
LOL, there are far too many dragons in this name – Ryuunosuke Uryuu.
Ohhhhhhhhhhhh! Is this Giant B*stard Archer???? Is this Giant B*stard Archer??? (i.e. Gilgamesh) Oooooooooh! No wonder people like Gilgamesh, even though they call him a giant loveable b*stard.
Fate/Zero 3
Thy don’t call Rider that for nothin’, eh?
I wonder how Saber managed to get a passport…? She’d need one, eh?
Oh…CGI car…it’s burning my eyesssssssss! (although I do believe Troyca didn’t do any better with El-Melloi’s Case Files)
“Hotel in Fuyuki” – They couldn’t be any more explicit with this stuff, could they…?
“…Highness.” – I can see why Saber is so popular with the Fate/ fans now.
Huh? I seem to remember the battle that comes next! Damn *bleep* <- (censored name of anime club manager responsible for the anime marathon that caused me to go from the beginning of F/Z in the first place)! I definitely remember Saber fighting Lancer.
Fate/Zero 4
(sorry, seen this one! That’s where the confusion was! So no notes here!)
Fate/Zero 5
Berserker looks like Goblin Slayer covered in smoke…LOL.
…Well, they don’t call that guy Berserker for nothin’ either.
Rider would make a great Santa Claus, LOL.
Fate/Zero 6
Isn’t there a Joan of Arc in the Netflix Fate/ (Apocrypha)?
Dang, that Kayneth is an evil b*stard, alright!
Kirei is basically Wolverine…?
No wonder you never hear about Caster when people talk about Fate/…he’s neither hot nor a waifu…so nobody gives a s*** about him.
Fate/Zero 7
Is that a Gantz?
Wait, y’mean Rider is motivated…by pants? *spits* Hahahaha…
You can see Ufotable’s much-praised CGI at work here, too.
I can definitely see why Ufotable was chosen for Katsugeki and why they chose Izuminokami for their protag.
Had to google Jeanne to remember what she looks like in this universe, but yeah…she does look like Saber.
For some reason, I had a fleeting thought that Lancer would be the one to be on the mountain alongside Saber…I was right.
So basically, the entire Fate/ series is this: who would win? A mage or an assassin? (Or something like this.)
Fate/Zero 8
I still think Kirei is basically Wolverine.
Kiritsugu = “to cut and tie”.Update: It’s “to tie” and “to inherit”, apparently.
F/Z 9
I wonder…just what is Lancer’s motivation for the Grail? Surely, Servants have their own motives…
I literally covered my eyes when Sola-Ui bent Kayneth’s finger back…it was almost as bad as seeing Nozomi get tortured (Magical Girl Spec-Ops Asuka)…*gulp*
“Not well” is an understatement, Sola-Ui.
I had to google how old Waver was in this Grail War…he’s 19, apparently, so right in my strike zone right here, so to speak~.
Beleaguered Waver is what you cool kids would call the 2020 Mood…and yes, I’m watching this on the 1st of January, 2020 (but you’re reading this after I put it up later in the month), so I’m keeping the comment.
“What kind of moron would go busting in?” – *facepalm* It seems Rider would.
What the heck is Rider riding his chariot over on the floor, anyway? What’s up with these sewer creatures ? They’ve got tentacles…!
F/Z 10
Rin reminds me of Asuka (NGE)…*gulp* That can only mean bad things for her.
Zenjo? I’ll make a note of that name.
That one glowing sign says “Fuyuki Station”.
Rin no Bouken = Rin’s Adventure. I don’t see why the subbers included “Big” in there, tbh.
F/Z 11
Uh-oh. Why do I get the feeling Saber’s going to get very, very drunk…?
Gee whiz, the great b*stard is a narcissist…
Well, sometimes I forget I had “Archer = Gilgamesh” spoilt for me ages ago…probably because he’s all over Babylonia, not to mention he seems to be one of the more popular characters precisely because he is the great b*stard.
“I wish for my homeland’s salvation.” – An interesting thing to say, considering Brexit.
What the f*** is a Gordius…oh, okay. So that’s Rider’s chariot.
How many Assassins are there??? I thought there was just the one, but there were 4 last time.
This discussion is interesting…no wonder Saber got mistaken for Joan of Arc back in the day.
Welp, Assassins gotta assassinate…*shrugs*
Eyyyyyy…there’s this one guy who looks basically like an older Waver Velvet! That explains a few things, I think.
F/Z 12
“Ramasonic” (sic).
I still think Gil-I mean, Archer’s snakeskin pants are hilarious.
I feel like last episode was a lot better in regards to how good Fate/ could be. This episode is just Ufotable animating talking Gilgamesh and Kirei heads.
Why do I get a bad feeling something bad’s going to happen to Maiya…again?
Kirei trying to look bada*s while leaning against a wall…it looks sort of funny, to be honest with you…because he bends his neck at a funny angle.
F/Z 13
This is the end of the 1st cour, apparently…according to AniList, at least.
“…5 billion people.” – I think the number is 7 billion now, but okay.
Never leave your Servant unsupervised, amirite?
I saw one of the bookstore’s shelves has science fiction on it…hmm, in a show with magic, that seems ironic…or was that non-fiction? Also somewhat ironic.
Oh, this “Don’t you want to do anything fun?” from Rider to Waver is an interesting parallel to Kirei’s episode (the previous one).
Dragon guy’s off his rocker…seriously.
Paraphrasing here, but “…if you want to use the Grail to make yourself taller…” – then stick to milk and other calcium products, Waver…LOL. I mean, other anime characters do.
Even Saber Naruto runs! There are no aliens here…but that car does have gull-wing doors (<-had to google what the doors were called), so…is it a DeLorean or something? Then someone could time travel instead.
I thought one of the previous commands from the overseers was to defeat Caster…?
Fate/Zero has become a kaiju movie, LOL.
Scared Waver is also a 2020 Mood…LOL.
F/Z 14
What’s this “Giant of Light” business…?
Geesh…If Ufotable did a Godzilla movie, I would watch that…(now that this monster makes me think of that possibility.)
This is a small quibble, but is it “Diabolo” or “Diablo”?
Somehow it didn’t even hit me until the fight was halfway over…but does Gilgamesh control a flying airship as part of his Noble Phantasm?!
Pretty scenery or not, talking people standing still are just that…not very entertaining, for sure. It’s basically the only flaw of this series, aside from the fact it hasn’t plumbed the depths of its themes yet.
Ufotable’s clouds look kind of like Gainax’s in Houkago no Pleiades, huh?
Tokiomi seems to blame Kariya for the whole sister vs. sister thing. Hmm, it really just shows how demented the guy is.
F/Z 15
Berserker is only ever in CGI, huh? No wonder Ufotable was given the job.
“That’s…from King Arthur’s legend…” – Can I please interrupt with the Excalibur song? (I’m annoying like that and want to ruin your level of immersion, that’s why.)
Hey, who knew? We get to see Joan in this anime, too. Thank you, Ufotable and Type Moon for saving me a Netflix subscription.
F/Z 16
“Things have been rather hectic this evening.” – Well, you don’t say…
*Saber and Lancer start their fight * - I detect signs there may have been people shipping Saber and Lancer at this point in time, what with their mutual ideas of honour and such.
Kayneth is kind childish, LOL – he’s like a kid peeping at his parents while they complain to each other about a hard day’s work or something.
Uh, this curse from Lancer here is definitely gonna be relevant later, right…?
I was muttering, “Oh goodness” (<- I’m self-censoring here, but you get the point) a few times over when Kiritsugu and Maiya finally got around to killing Kayneth, Lancer and Kayneth’s fiancee. By the way, were those two ever married…? Also, this makes me wonder…what would happen if you got a completely useless Servant? Like “King of Fools” or something. It would sound like the Familiar of Zero, sure, but it would be an interesting exercise in making a compelling narrative.
F/Z 17
Dangit, B*stard Archer. Disappearing just after you provoked Kirei…
Oh! I found the Avalon scene confusing at first, but now that they explain it, it makes a lot more sense.
“As I live and breathe, Kirei!” – Sounds mighty ironic for a meant-to-be-dead historical figure to say that.
F/Z 18
We jump to someone else’s story…or do we?
For some reason, I think this beach place is based on Okinawa. (It seems like the best match.)
“This isn’t a game.” – Seems highly ironic, given his current situation.
I know Kiritsugu is probably looking into Shirley’s eyes, but all they show is the boobs downwards, so I imagine it to be fanservice.
That shaking was just to disguise the bad animation, wasn’t it…?
…and suddenly, zombies!
Well, that’s great, Kiritsugu. You ended up burning down a village by association. Good job…
“Vampires.” – Well, that wasn’t the word I was expecting…
For some reason, I think this new arrival is a woman, but now that I get a proper look at their face, they kinda look like the Great B*stard (Gilgamesh). Update: It looks like they have cleavage, but then they also kinda resemble Samatoki (Hyp Mic)…so, uh…I dunno. Update 2: Okay, she’s a woman…Natalia, to be precise.
The houses on fire look a lot like the ones in Katsugeki, come to think of it.
F/Z 19
Wait, what’s a Mystic Code again…?
Oh, I didn’t think this show would do it, but there’s a good few seconds of recap. I know, because I had to skip it.
Oh, the reason Kiritsugu doesn’t seem to ally with the Association or the Church is because Natalia wasn’t part of either. Right…I’m so dumb.
Am I just reading into Kiritsugu’s pose here too much, or does he look like Christ the Redeemer a bit…?
There’s something oddly pretty about Vorzak. Then again…it’s too bad he’s designated to be dead.
I could tell Kiritsugu was CGI for a second…but he was in fog. Dangit, Ufotable. You know how to disguise your CGI well.
…Okay, those bees were very CGI. Scrap what I just said.
Bees on a plane. What a way to die.
I’ve noticed Kiritsugu’s eyes don’t have any pupils in them. They’re always kind of dead, but not in th same way En’s (<- from Boueibu) are.
What happened to Kiritsugu’s mother…?
The extended flashback seems to be the best way to my heart, assuming you can pull it off properly.
What’s with that “sometime, somewhere”?
F/Z 20
There hasn’t been a proper OP since 3 episodes ago.
Was Maiya ever interested in Kiritsugu as a woman? This vague pseudo-harem sorta annoys me, which is why I need answers.
The crows in this show aren’t very fluffy. Not that I have a problem with that…it’s just a bit random (and I’m saying that as I operate without much sleep and will have a huge period of getting up early in my near future, so you’re probably going to see even more randomness coming from my brain).
Modanyaki. Never thought I’d be googling a Japanese concept for this anime.
This sleeping bag Waver reminds me of Aizawa, but this is at least 4 years too early for that.
That cloud in the top left is shaped funny…like a knight, maybe? (There’s a triangular bit that looks lik a helmet.)
I believe the bird is a bush warbler (uguisu), based on the colour.
So this is where you learn what the f*** a Gordius Wheel is…right.(sounds a bit pissed)
Seeing Kariya squirm…it makes me thank my lucky stars I had the sound off. My imagination makes the scene worse, though.
So fakers beget fakers and killers beget killers, huh? Not surprising.
“I’ve always told him he was doing the right thing.” – Because you didn’t know any better, huh, Iri?
F/Z 21
“Knight on Two Wheels” – What would that knight be riding, a bike…? (somewhat sarcastic)
…A motorbike. Close enough. (not sarcastic anymore)
The motorbike’s plate says “Fuyuki - Te” – instead of a licence plate combo, Japan has a single hiragana.
Well, at least now I know why you never hear of Kariya outside Fate/Zero much…those worms don’t give him long to live.
Isn’t Tokiomi dead though…?
Holy s***, Kariya, you just got framed! *yells in the tone of voice as if Kariya got owned…which he did, in a sense*
*brow furrowed* What’s up with the framing of Aoi’s killing that makes this seem like attempted rape…?
Kirei looks all dead inside. (LOL) I know it’s the animators’ fault that they didn’t bother with him in that scene, but…he has the eyes of a dead fish there, y’know? I can’t help but laugh.
F/Z 22
Never in my life have I seen a grandpa want to talk on the roof.
The grandpa reminds me of Rider…that’s probably where part of their relationship comes from.
You can see the lack of sleep is getting to Kiritsugu right now…his face looks a little sunken…
…Fate/ is apparently pretty infamous for treating its women badly from a feminist persepctive and I think I get why now…(referring to the death of Aoi and now Kirei’s treatment of Iri)
I think the scariest part of F/Z is watching th emotionless guy learn how to feel…kinda like Equilibrium, y’know?
Hmm? I wonder how this show will choose to end, since it’s signalling its end from 3 episodes out?
I predicted Rider would say something along the lines of “…befitting of the Rider class” and lo and behold! He did!
So Rider can summon a single horse as well as the entire chariot? *Saitama face* Okay then.
Number of Times Waver Appears: 1, Number of Times Waver Cries: 1, Number of Times Waver Blushes: 2
Come to think of it, even though I had that weird “Ohhhhhh! Great B*stard Archer!” reaction at first, Gilgamesh has shown up in most of the worst scenes of this show so far (basically, most of the “talking heads” scenes where he talks shop with Kirei). Then again, my change in feelings probably because I’ve had to keep a special eye out for Waver and knew Saber was the poster girl for the entire series.
The counter appears to be “time until the Holy Grail War”…well, that or its final conflict.
F/Z 23
I like how Waver’s joining in with Rider’s yelling.
I have the sound off, so now I’m just mentally narrating Sakura with this creepy child voice and it’s spooking me out…the Urobutcher could really go toe-to-toe with Stephen King if it weren’t my imagination…(LOL…?)
I feel sorry for that car’s owner…the car wasn’t meant to be wrecked…
I fully expect Berserker to be Lancelot or some other guy in King Arthur’s canon, judging by Saber’s reactio-hey, who’s Arondight…? Update: Oh, f***. It really is Lancelot. Turns out Arondight is the name of Lancelot’s sword. How did I know? There’s that upcoming Camelot adaption, isn’t there? Connect the dots.
Oh, f*** me – I feel conflicted. On the one hand, Lancelot’s hella handsome (and his dark hair is exactly my kinda thing), on the other hand…doesn’t he look like he came out of Castlevania or Vampire Hunter D or something??? F***in’ vampires!
Oh, f*** again, I stand corrected. Lancelot was handsome, before he became a Caster-looking…thing.
*bursts into spontaneous laughter* The new Lancelot looks kinda like Tsukasa from Dr Stone, LOL.
Number of Times Waver Cries: 2
Wait, isn’t Bucephalus Greek??? Update: No, he wasn’t. He was Alexander the Great’s horse. That explains why he’s Rider.
I was wondering how Waver managed to live long enough to be El-Melloi II when he was stuck in a battle to the death. Welp, that’s how he did it, folks! *points at screen*
Number of Times Waver Cries: 3…but…anti-climax, much, f***in’ Gilgamesh???
Uh, what’s up with Psalm 23:4? (I had to google that snippet of the Bible to find out its citation.)
LOL, Kirei and Kiritsugu have very similar faces. Didn’t realise that until now.
F/Z 24
It’s weird seeing Kirei full of fighting spirit…He’s still frickin’ Wolverine, though.
Is this taking cues from the Matrix? I bought it from the charity store the other day because I haven’t seen it yet, but I know Bullet Time from TV Tropes.
Now Kirei is channeling Bruce Lee, LOL.
Ouch…the bullet to the hand reminds me of the nail gun scene in The Island (which still freaks me out to this day). (…and now I’ve gone and done it – every time I think of that movie, I get the song The Island – part 1, at least - in my head as well.)
I can almost see Sakaido (from ID: Invaded) in some of these scenes instead of Kiritsugu…trust Ei Aoki and associates to do that.
I went to dump a screenshot in Paint and one of my Fate/ backgrounds from one of the previous posts was set to my background! (I have my backgrounds set to rotate every 12 hours and I have over 600 pictures for that purpose.) *sighs happily and incredulously* Well, whaddaya know…sometimes the stars do align.
I almost expected Shirley to appear, but it turns out it was Iri instead.
Kiritsugu still has his Command Seals so he’s still connected to the Grail War somehow…hmm…
C’mon, I predicted Gilgamesh would compliment Saber when she was down and bleeding.
F/Z 25 (FINAL)
Who’s Lord Justeaze?
Sakura has the same eyes as Kiritsugu. Dead, lifeless eyes.
Did Kariya just throw himself to the worms???
The Great Naked B*stard Gilgamesh.
A priest is a zombie, huh? How ironic.
Isn’t Gilgamesh annoyed by his lack of clothes…? Update: Never mind. He gets a cloth soon enough.
Wait, if Saber destroyed the Grail, who won…?
Huh? The timer ran out.
Aw, even Waver’s growing up.
One of the books says 零戦 (reisen) which apparently means “Zero Fighter [Plane]”. One of the sets of books says “William Shakespeare”, who I know is a Servant somewhere in the Fateverse.
The Bible verse is Job 19:25.
Lancelot’s head doesn’t disappear when the rest of him fades away…It’s pretty poignant.
Jubstacheit is the head of the Einzberns. Update: Think I had to google that.
“Becoming a hero has an expiration date.” – As much as I know that in my creative heart to not be true, my adult heart says yes, it’s true.
Welp, that’s the end of one series. Time for another.

Character Analysis: Matou Shinji
I finally understand why Shinji’s such an asshole to Shirou, took me long enough and HF helps
I need to get this out of my system…
Hello, hello~
Get ready for long… I don’t know what is this. Fan theory or something.. I came out after mulling over Heaven’s Feel for a while. I warn you; This contains spoiler, this is just my opinion, my grammar is bad, I think weird, I write weird, and someone else probably thought this up already but since I haven’t read, see, or hear this from anyone else yet i think it’s safe to say that my brain thought this up by itself. Continue at your own risk. React whatever you want.
You’ve read the title. I finally understand why Shinji’s such an asshole to Shirou. It’s kinda complicated at first, but quite simple once you get it. Shinji and Shirou used to be best friend right? Then why they doesn’t look like it? The reason is… surprise, surprise, it’s because of Sakura!
If you watched Zero, then you already know that Sakura is Rin’s twin, right? (If you haven’t then spoiler haha!). I’m gonna use Harry Potter’s reference for this to make it easier for me to explain. Families like Tohsaka and Matou are Purebloods. Mages like Kiritsugu and Shiro are Muggleborns. People like Shinji is Squib. Tohsaka family have two daughter. But only one child get to learn family magic, the second child must be relocated to the muggle world. Matou family have one son but he’s a squib. So then the two family make a bargain, In exchange of teaching Sakura the family magic, Matou get to have a strong mage in her. It’s a win-win situation for both families.
But what does that makes Shinji? Do the math.
On one side there’s Sakura, the adopted daughter from a family with equal standing with Matou and she has the same magical capability as her sister which only matured and gotten stronger with the help of the magical worms, and on the other side is Shinji, Matou’s eldest son but with naught but low magical capability and he didn’t even fit the criteria to be a Master in Holy Grail War. Try to guess which one going to be nominated as the next head of Matou family if Zouken (somehow) died.
In the eyes of the family Shinji is an embarrassment and it shows. If you already watch HF then you must be remember Zouken’s reaction to Shinji’s defeat (which harsh af, If I’m him I’d cry). He doesn’t have magic and his family didn’t expect anything from him, let just say all that pent up emotion needs to go somewhere, and that somewhere is Sakura. Shinji probably blames Sakura out of envy. He saw her as someone who took everything that’s supposed to be his to take. That’s why he always bully her. Sakura probably knows about this fact too, that’s why she stays silent about his bad attitude towards her.
But even he has friend he can count on and that’s Shiro. Judging from a scene from HF, Shinji and Shirou already know each other since elementary and very close. But then Sakura came to the picture and there goes their friendship. It’s not even about their archery club or Shiro’s annoying good guy personality as Shinji’s belief. It’s fear I think, fear of losing his friend.
When Shirou stopped going to archery club, I note how Shinji keeps using words like “Outsiders” to mention Shirou. He probably did it so Shirou would want to join back to the archery club with him. It’s like backward psychology or something, I think. The more you mention a person that he isn’t part of something, makes that person wants to be a part of it.
The next is this scene from HF. Remember when he ask Shirou to clean archery club dojo? In HF Shinji looks like he expected Shirou to refuse and looks disappointed when he didn’t. I’m not sure why he makes that kind of face. Shinji, even as one of the acting (not actual, I think) Master should already know that the Holy Grail War already started at the same day. In HF Shirou was standing in front Sakura’s classroom in search for her. Maybe Shinji asked that, expecting Shirou would refuse him and go home immediately. Which of course doesn’t happen and Shinji reaction to Shiro after that was more in the line of “Do whatever you want.”
Then I noted how Shinji always flinched… triggered… ticked whenever Sakura is mentioned (not just in HF but in UBW too). Especially by Shirou. Shinji’s scared that Sakura’s going to take the one and only person he considers as friend. In that fear, what did he thinks he needs to do to make sure Sakura stays away from Shirou? He tries to scare her by bullying her. But that works the exact opposite. Shirou found out about it and choose to side with Sakura. That in turns make Shinji the bad guy and he hates it. So Shinji bullied her again, Shirou begin to feel contempt for Shinji, and repeat. It’s like a never ending cycle of tension.
Last is his reaction to Shirou being one of the master in Holy Grail War. The fight between Rider and Saber. He clearly trying to outdo Shirou. He looks like he tried to scare Shirou so Shirou would stand away from the fight or maybe expecting his servant to be strong enough to beat Saber so Shirou doesn’t have to continue the War again. Shinji’s acting like the bad guy again though and Shirou being Shirou of course choose to fight and RIder being ridiculously outclassed by Saber of course didn’t help.
Shinji’s character surprisingly more developed and complex in HF than UBW and S/N, probably because the story focused on Sakura and everyone around her and that includes Matou family. Maybe this is just me trying to see if this guy has any good points or not. Maybe he’s actually an asshole through and through with superiority complex the size of Mount Fuji, we shall see it when Heaven’s Feel part two comes out.

Fate/Feminism
Fate/Feminism
Fate/Stay Night, like other Visual Novels/Animes with Harem aspects, has a male main character and so the extent to which the story seemingly revolves around him can be seen as undermining what Feminist potential could come from having such a large cast of female characters.
However I think there is a lot of Feminist potential in the Fate/ franchise, maybe not always intentional from the original creators, but it’s there.
Spoiler Warning here, since I can’t really talk about any of this without spoiling stuff.
One of the reasons I don’t mind the supposed spoilers that come from watching Fate/Zero first is because I really see no downside to knowing Sakura and Rin are sisters from the start.  I watched Unlimited Blade Works not knowing and just wondered why Sakura got so much attention early on only to be mostly forgotten.  (I also didn’t really know the whole it’s only one route of the Visual Novel aspect.)
I think it majorly helps to watch Unlimited Blade Works Episode 0 knowing about Rin and Sakura, because then you fully get that the reason Rin saved Shirou is for Sakura.  The love one woman has for her sister is why the male MC is even alive.
And that’s just one of a few reasons that Shirou’s importance to the story is seemingly only because he happens to have connections to all these important women.  While in a more typical Fantasy/Harem hybrid it’s more like the women only matter because the super special Jesus-Kun main character likes them.  Indeed you’ll notice in Fate/Zero that all four major Waifus of Fate/Stay Night were part of the Holy Grail War story well before Shirou was, they are all in the first episode of Fate/Zero while we don’t meet Shirou till the last one.
Outside of the main four, I find it interesting that the other two female servants, Rider and Caster, are both women from Greek mythology who have been the subject of a lot of Feminist criticism.  Their stories are pretty clearly originally based on Misogynist archetypes, but women have sought to reclaim them.  A YouTube channel specializing in Nasuverse Lore videos has done videos on Medusa and Medea.  I feel like Fate’s takes on them definitely draws on the Feminist analysis of them.  I can’t comment much on Medusa yet having not gotten to see a version of Heaven’s Feel.  But Medea in Unlimited Blade Works is pretty interesting, calling her a Witch seems to be her Berserk button, and in her flashback episodes she laments being again passed around, vilified and discarded by men.
Fate/Prototype is a short OVA that is based on what the original idea for Fate/Stay Night was before it evolved (makes me think it’d be cool to see some Cartoon based on the abandoned versions of Star Wars).  It’s notable that it had a female lead and a male Saber.  This female lead seems more like a proto-Rin then a female Shirou.  But it’s definitely interesting that that is where the idea for Fate/ started.
I have praised Fate/Zero a lot, including calling it the best entry point into Fate/ for potential new fans.  But my one issue with it is it’s not as good at it’s handling of female characters.  It’s cast is overall much more masculine, with Saber herself being the only female Servant this time.  And worst of all there is a lot of fridging, the worst of it being how we’re supposed to sympathize with Karia after he strangled the woman he claims he loves.
But Saber/Artoria is still great, and I love Irisviel.  And I also like Maya, and I like that Irisviel is okay with Maya and Kiritsugu's relationship.  And I think you could definitely see a Feminist commentary in Caster’s obsession with Jeanne d’Arc.
The currently airing Fate/Apocrypha is difficult to comment on, I think I’ll understand it better once I can watch it Dubbed.
I don’t know a lot about Grand Order, I’ll be seeing the OVA when it’s Dub drops.  What I do want to comment on briefly is that I heard it has Chevalier d’Eon, and depicts them as Non-Binary.  I would prefer d’Eon be a Trans-Woman as she was historically, but that is definitely better than what the Le Chevalier d’Eon anime did, pretty much removing the Queerness altogether.
I really like Fate/Khalied Liner Prisma Illya.  I know it’s very fanservicey and trashy (I hear there was less Lewdness in the Manga).  But it’s still a Magical Girl show and does what we western Feminists like best about Magical Girl shows.  I’m going to quote a comment from that Dark Magical Girl article on AnimeFeminist, left by a user named GreyLurker.
"Fate/Kalieid liner is one of my favorite series in part because it has it's feet set in both sides of the issue. As part of the Fate universe it's naturaly stuck with a lot of dark elements but the Magical Girl elements directly oppose that. For a lot of things Illya can achieve the impossible because she believes in the ideals of a Magical Girl. She flies because Magical Girls fly. It's just obvious to her even if other characters tell her it's not possible.
Confronted with morality choices like "You can save your friend or you can save the world. Which will you choose" She essentially says "Screw that, I'm a Magical Girl so obviously I'm gonna save both and get the happy ending" She will save everyone because that is what Magical Girls Do.
and that faith lets her achieve the impossible."
Prisma Illy is also predictably subject to the most Yuri Shipping of any Fate/ show, because Magical Girls and Yuri naturally go together.  But in the original VN Saber/Rin is technically canon thanks to to the Threesome Ending.  And there is a solid basis for shipping Rider and Sakura.  And in Fate/Zero we have shipped Saber/Irisviel.
Other Nasuverse franchises like Tsukihime, Kara no Kyoukai and Canaan are also worth discussing.  But that would make this post way too long.
So, the Fate/ franchise has it’s issues.  But there is definitely a lot of value in it.

fate/stay night (vn) - ren’s review
welp, i’ve been inactive these past few days bcos i’ve been picking up fate/stay night vn since last week. i guess it’s about time i review it before I forget everything.
also, it’s been sometime since i last reviewed stuff.
ps: there’s spoilers inside so proceed with caution.
i finished saber’s route in just a week, rin’s route in 3 days and sakura’s route today and boy, it feels so satisfying. tbh i’ve never finished a visual novel game this fast but hey, i did it (as i procrastinated over printing my portfolio, ren pls print that damn thing tomorrow).
anyways, that being said. i know i used to believe that fate/stay night has a cruddy story just bcos it was originally an eroge but damn, the moment i watched the UBW anime by ufotable, I was completely wrong. i fell head over heels with this series and out of nowhere, i decided to pick up the visual novels just to experience the full story, and even picked up fate/grand order just to get used with nasu’s storytelling. welp, i must say, I’m impressed. also, i think most of you know this but fate is somehow inspired from evangelion and utena, and the writer, kinoko nasu is a big fan of the two series.
also, just to let ya know, i’m playing the game in this way, fate and heaven’s feel in realta nua version, while UBW, i played them uncensored bcos i’m interested in how my otp played the lovey-dovey scenes out in canon :^) (you know who i do i ship if you’ve been following me all this time haha)
speaking of the story, i’d say, i enjoy heaven’s feel the most (if not why does it take me a day to finish this route, tho i skipped thru the first 7 days bcos i’ve gone thru it and got into one of the bad endings).
fate route is ok tho but i didn’t really like unlimited blade works story-wise. seriously, shirou’s ideals are just too stupid for me.
the romancing part, well, i couldn’t agree more but heck yes, i live for rin and shirou. they’re a dorky pair, hands-down. also, without these two dorks, type-moon will never design gudao and gudako after them.
i could only see saber and shirou like aigis and makoto/minato’s relationship from persona 3, while sakura and shirou, i couldn’t really see much as a couple but i’m really glad bcos of this, rin gets a happy end with sakura (as [spoiler alert] siblings)
alright, now i wanna talk about my opinions on the casts so here is it.
shirou is a good boy, though he can be stupid and reckless sometimes, he’s still a good boy. with rin by his side, i just don’t want him to end up becoming a broken man like archer emiya.
rin. I LOVE HER. she’s cool, badass, pretty and cute. AND A TOTAL DORK. i’d jump off the cliff to get her nendo and figma, alongside with shirou’s. also, she’s very cute when she sings; bless her seiyuu, kana ueda.
saber’s a good servant. she’s badass when fighting but she can be wholesome outside battles, especially on the daily life scenes with taiga and sakura and in UBW’s dating scene. but i’m kinda sad that she died early in heaven’s feel and ended up becoming saber alter and killed by her previous master in the end T_T
sakura, well, uhh I WANT TO PROTECC HER SMILE. she’s good and all too, but somehow when she reveals her dark side, she reminds me of akechi from persona 5 tho, idk why. (my head is still processing lots of stuff rn so i couldn’t really say why)
shinji, ugh, this charming jerk. HE DOESN’T DESERVE TO BE ALIVE. when i first watch the UBW anime i’m kinda neutral towards him but at that scene where he almost did it to rin i wanna kick him in the balls. HE DESERVE TO DIE. thankfully he did. in saber and sakura’s route. i don’t get why this jerk is even shirou’s close friend but thanks to him, shirou knows her. he’s the second character voiced by kamiya hiroshi that i hate (the first one being izaya from drrr)
kirei. ahh the fake priest. he’s a jerk tho, that’s why he’s cool as a villain. ‘nuff said. YOROKOBE will not get out of my head. jouji nakata’s voice will never get out of my head. (fun fact, his seiyuu also voiced as the monk in houseki no kuni)
lancer. he might be a jerk at first, but i really like his role in UBW and heaven’s feel tho, although he’s really short-lived in the latter route thanks to true assassin.
rider. i must admit, she’s cool. tho she wasn’t that much of use in fate and UBW, i really like her role in heaven’s feel. that sister quality in her is A++
archer. he’s cool as a servant, but he can be a jerk. idk why did he give me godot from ace attorney vibes.
gilgamesh. seeing him just gets me that ‘BEGONE THOT’ screamed into my face. he’s a jerk, but his smug and attitude makes him a good villain. shame that he didn’t shine that much in heaven’s feel tho.
speaking of servants, as much as i love saber, i like lancer class the most, then assassin and saber goes the third.
anyways, i did say i play fate and heaven’s feel clean and UBW uncensored. i’m not into eroge honestly and the reason for me to play UBW uncensored is bcos it’s the rinshirou route so i’m interested to see these two playing out the lovey dovey scene. yeah, obviously i like it tho :^)
i didn’t play the other routes uncensored bcos well, i’m not the person who’s interested to see other pairings that aren’t worth my time’s kinky scenes.
yeah, i know most people avoid playing the vn bcos it’s really wordy but hey, if you want a full story experience of fate/stay night, this is the only way you can do it as of now. i heard the studio deen adaptation of f/sn wasn’t that good and the UBW movie is also not worth watching bcos it’s not beginner-friendly.
if you insist on starting from the anime, then you should watch the UBW anime by ufotable then pick up the vn, before proceed on watching/reading fate/zero bcos heaven’s feel and fate has a lot of connections to fate/zero especially, while UBW doesn’t hold a lot of impact.
there’s no official localization of this game so the only way you can play it is thru the fan-translations of the PC port of realta nua (aka the remastered version of the game, complete with the options to turn on/off the sex scenes in which they cannot do it for the consoles version since sony doesn’t allow eroges to be played in their consoles.)
anyways, that’s all i want to talk about. i must say that, this series really have captivated me in the end even tho ironically i detested it for being too silly haha.
