#but perhaps alphys saved undyne

Y'know, for all the fandom tomfoolery around sans's heehoo glowey eyeball, I don't think I've heard anyone bring up anything truly plot-relevant or thematic about it, so here are my observations:
In UNDERTALE, virtually all battle sprites (save for the healthbar and battle options) are black and white:
This applies consistently with virtually every monster battle sprite as well.
When a monster's fight features some kind of color, it's usually a really big deal: When you first see the color blue in battle, it signifies the beginning of the blue attack and blue SOUL mechanics, when you see green, you get the green SOUL mechanic, when you see purple, you get muffet's signature purple SOUL mechanic, Yellow is also a SOUL mechanic etc, etc. Characters that introduce new SOUL mechanics are usually the more important ones: Papyrus, Undyne, Mettaton/Alphys, and Muffet.
Additionally, colors have thematic implications, and this is the part that actually starts connecting to sans' sprite.
As far as memory carries me, the first time you'll ever see a consistantly colorful element of a battle sprite is against Asgore.
Asgore sports a trident worthy of a fight against the devil himself, and it's the same ruby-red we come to associate with the player, Frisk's SOUL, and by extension DETERMINATION. In a way, this fits. Asgore has been the most (naturally) determined being in the underground for as long as until Frisk arrives. His drive to free his people, though not fully put into action due to his guilt and ineptitude to handle responsibilities on his own, is IMMENSE, and only someone essentially made of determination can overpower that.
However, the red player soul is not the only one to bear any kind of meaning. Thanks to "ball game" in snowdin, we know the virtues the other SOULs embody as well:
Red signifies DETERMINATION
Orange signifies BRAVERY
Yellow signifies JUSTICE
Green signifies KINDNESS
Cyan signifies PATIENCE
Blue signifies INTEGRITY
And Purple signifies PERSERVERANCE.
Green shows up all the time in healing projectiles, no questions there as to why, but ONLY ONE CHARACTER has not one, but TWO of these colors present in their battle sprite: Cyan and Yellow.
Now tell me, who in UNDERTALE's main cast is A: Willing to wait all fucking day for something to happen and B: Willing AND capable of actively judging you the ENTIRE time?
Sans the motherfucking skeleton.
(Best gif i could find, my phone really doesn't like the gif selector!)
Sans's left eye.... eye socket? His eye thingy rapidly flashes Cyan and Yellow whenever he uses his strongest attacks. If we're to assume a SOUL color appears where its corresponding attribute is at its limit or highest prominance, then this makes a lot of sense.
Sans is the living definition of letting things be, he'll wait as long as humanly possible to so much as pick up a sock.... and then wait some more. His patience is perhaps TOO great, and largely manifests in a sort of apathetic complacency so thick that he won't even fight you until there's literally no other option left. When sans DOES fight you, he's not even remotely determined or anything, rather he knows that his only shot--monsterkind's only shot-- at survival is not merely killing you, but in making sure the experience sucks so much for so long that you decide to stay dead and quit the game. Sans is not determined, he is desperate, and he'll have the patience to wait forever if it means stopping you.
Sans is also very observant, like.... SCARY observant, he does NOT remember you're genocides, but he certainly can extrapolate that they've happened after a good long look at your expression every time you're forced to reload your save. This observance plays into his incredibly strong sense of justice, which is likely why he's the royal judge. Sans' way of things is very "what goes around, will eventually come around", and this even manifests in his battle mechanic literally being called Karmatic Retribution, or KR.
Sans knows better than anyone (other than flowey) that he cannot possibly send you to the hell he knows you deserve, but he can absolutely build one of his own for you, and if he had the energy to do so he'd keep you there forever until you, the player, make the one good remaining decision to quit the game.
TLDR: Sans's glowing eye is not only intimidating and fancy, but also a direct reprisentation of his core virtues at their absolute strongest.
#something something the genocide route bringing out the deepest core beliefs of the main characters while obscuring everything else#undertale analysis at an ungodly hour#undertale#sans undertale#utdr#sans

Eyo, welcome to the second post of this blog 🎉🎉🎉🎉
The Undertale Yellow brainrot is SO bad that I’ve gone and made an UTY au. Wanna hear about it? Of course you do, who would you be here if you didn’t! If you don’t, then leave sucka, I’m here to FUCK!
So y’all know me, I’m a giant Ceroba fan, simp, and apologist. This fandom be shitting on her and I cannot STAND for this INJUSTICE! So, I sat down and thought “hey, how about we entertain that idea. What if Ceroba didn’t inject Kanako?” And it just spiraled into an entirely different universe of its own. So here we are, I’m way too deep, I’m just gonna dive in.
So, we all know the context, ye? Chujin is veeeeery dead, leaving Ceroba and Kanako to pick up the pieces of his work. This time, when Kanako offers herself as the boss monster vessel, Ceroba denies, not wanting to risk the only family she has left and wanting to respect Chujin’s last wishes. Kanako is upset by this, even staring an arguement between the two and Kanako even trying to steal the vile, but who can blame them in such a tense situation. One thing that’s bothered me on this whole argument is that Kanako was manipulated into her decision, or didn’t understand what she was doing, when she clearly did. She saw the consequences first hand, it look her father for crying out loud, she knew it could take her as well. Adolescents are reckless, and will fight like hell to get what they want, especially if they strongly believe in it. I think Kanako is far older and more mature then we think, I personally enturpret her as 15 or 16 at the time of her falling down. I don’t see no striped shirt on that kit!
So now what are we left with? They can’t just go find another boss monsters, they’re very rare, and most don’t even know if they are apart of that minority. So, we got two options; Asgore or Toriel. No way in HELL Toriel would agree, and I don’t think anyone even knows where Toriel went to. So we have Asgore. Wheeler he goes along with it or not is… debatable. He wants the best for his subjects, and would do anything to get out of this one sided war with humans. But this isn’t an alternative to breaking the barrier, it’s a back up plan for if history repeats itself. It could save many monsters lives, but would Asgore trust her after the stunts Chujin pulled? Maybe he even feels guilty for what happened to him. For the sake of this au, he agrees, desperate and grieving just like the women in front of him. But we all know what happens to Kanako, so…
THE KING IS DEAD! Vive la révolution!
Ok, not really, he’s just fallen down. That’s now Alphys’ problem to deal with (I’m sorry gurl I love you). But now Ceroba is in hot, HOT water, for a few crimes like ✨attempted assassination✨, ✨regicide✨, and ✨treason✨! If you’ve ever seen Undyne in the neutral routes, then you know she’s one trigger happy fish that’s very loyal to Asgore, and ain’t the biggest fan of the iron gallos. She’d much rather do it with her own two hands. So before Ceroba can run, plead her case, or even fight back; she’s got a spear straight through the soul.
Kanako, obviously, ain’t so happy about this. Poor gurl just lost her dad, and now her mom is also very dead, right in front of her too. Ouch! So she reacts as you’d expect anyone to, and attacks Undyne back with quite the fierce fireball. Luckily, it’s not a DnD fireball, but it does serve as the reason she wears an eyepatch now. With her attacker blinded, Kanako makes a desperate run for it, not wanting to risk retaliation. Back at the Wild East, all she has is her mother’s staff and the mask she made to as evidence of what happened.
The Wild East is heavily shook by the news, every resident feels it, but Starlo is hurt especially hard. That was his best friend, perhaps someone he saw as more, someone he cared for deeply and devotedly. We saw Starlo is the flawed pacifist run, he don’t take this too well. But right now, he doesn’t care about what he thinks or feels. In front of him is a grieving now orphaned child who watched her own parents turned to dust, who he watched grow up and been by their side the whole time. So like he always does, he comforts her before anything else. For this AU, Starlo will be serving as Kanako’s guardian, since she has no parents now. The fandom has kinda agreed on that Starlo is Kanako’s honorary uncle, and he definitely has some strong dad energy he needs to unleash. So he’s going to be the one to step up and care for this poor child.
Starlo decides this is a pretty good chance to give her something; a hat just like his own. He even cut out holes for her ears, Ceroba always complained about how the way his hat made it hard to hear and folded her ears in uncomfortable matters. He wants to share his passion of western culture with Kanako, to pass on what helped comfort him. Though he is very unaware that escapism is a very self destructive coping mechanism, and has just damned Kanako to become worse; whoops! He even offers to teach her gunslinging and give her lassons when she’s older. There’s a solum comfort in the promise of future, something to look forward to, a goal to achieve. And so, Kanako latches into it, and holds onto it for dear life.
Years go by, Kanako has grown up, and the 6th human falls. Kanako has shown to be a natural at wielding a gun, but ends up falling back on her natural magical abilities. Starlo offered for her to join the feisty five, maybe even become deputy, but she refuses. Instead, she adapts the persona of a bounty hunter, a lawless predator that only abides by the count of coin under her victim’s wanted poster. I really want to give her a cool alter ego name like North Star does, but I don’t have any ideas on what a good name for her would be. So if you guys have any cool names for her, I’d really appreciate it! Nonetheless, she joins in on Starlo’s western fantasies, relishing in the role as the villain. The classic self righteous vigilante sherif VS the aloof bounty hunter just getting paid. She embraced their role as some Saturday cartoon bad guy, tying damsels to train tracks and robbing banks, shooting the good guy all “this town ain’t big enough for the both of us,” style. It’s a performance, a chance for her to be someone else. The bounty hunter isn’t a lost, confused, and traumatized child who had her parents and childhood ripped away from her claws right in front of her, but a powerful and respected foe people can be scared of.
How would Kanako interact with Clover and the gang, I don’t really know yet. I’m imagining Starlo instructing her to sabotage the trials he sets up for Clover as a way to cause drama and challenge his soon to be deputy, while playing none the wiser to the posse, but that’s all I really got. What I’m more interested in is her dynamic with Martlet. Kanako isn’t a big fan of Royal guard for obvious reason, it’s a big reason why she takes on a bounty hunter role, their whole point is to give the law enforcers the middle finger. So when a blue bodied yellow eyed Royal Guardswomen rolls up into town, she’s going to be pretty heavily reminded of her late mother’s executioner. You can’t have a hunter without the hunted, and fittingly enough, foxes are known to hunt many kinds of birds; from small songbirds to juvenile birds of prey, but usually just the eggs. It would be a good reason for Martlet to be in jail, she pulled a Ramsey Murdock and put herself in jail so she doesn’t join her cousin Berdly in the grocery isle as fried chicken.
So, to end things off, why does this Au exist. For a lot of reasons, but it’s mainly to show the point of Ceroba’s and Kanako’s role in the story. They are both left doomed by the narrative, whether she gets injected or not. It doesn’t matter who lived or who died, the survivor is left no better then dead wishing it was them instead. The point of Kanako is to be a tragedy, to show what happens to many families, the inevitability of death and how grief can tear someone apart. If Kanako is the sacrificial lamp, someone else has to be. Inversely, if Ceroba isn’t there to be the the consequence of that sacrifice, someone else will have to. It doesn’t matter what choice Ceroba made on injecting her daughter, she was doomed to a fate worse than death, whether through amalgamation or orphaning. But it’s also meant to be a commentary on the nature of Undertale Yellow’s main theme; Justice. In my mind, and the way Kanako sees it, blind justice doesn’t exist. Yeah, there’s moral things everyone can say “that’s pretty wrong,” but at the end of the day, justice is self serving. Every person’s moral compass and what they believe is right and wrong is different, and so the Justice they enforce exists to push their own agenda. Clover in one timeline will sacrifice their soul to give monsters justice, while in another killing every monster that moves is delivering justice for the crime of the other children’s deaths. Did Ceroba deserve execution for what she did even if it was an accident, is it just of Kanako to mercilessly slaughter a child for the sake of the underground? That question doesn’t matter to her, all that matters in justice. Anyway, have adult Kanako in a cowboy hat, I’ll finalize her design for this AU one day…
#undertale yellow#uty#uty au#uty spoilers#I’ll tag the rest of this once I get this au a name#and bounty hunter Kanako one#I’m bad at names T^T

"OKAY, SO YOU WON'T GO OUT..."
"BUT THAT DOESN'T STOP ME FROM INVITING EVERYONE ELSE HERE! NYEHEHEHE!!"
feeling better, but didn't wanna go out anywhere public today. didn't feel like being around strangers, so papyrus just invited all our friends here.
they're doing karaoke.
right now frisk is belting...
"NEEEVERRMINDD I DON'T WANNA KNOoOOWW~!"
...something.
i don't recognize most of the songs they've queued up, but it's entertaining to see who can hit high notes. equally entertaining is seeing who can 𝗻𝗼𝘁 hit high notes, instead hitting voice cracks.
they powered through it, but flowey certainly didn't let them live it down afterwards.
"It's a hard one to get, okay?!"
"HA! Puberty voice."
"I am not 'puberty voice'!"
"Are too."
"Am not!"
"Are too."
"Am not!"
"That was the voice crack of the century!"
"It wasn't THAT bad-"
"Would you really rather blame it on your skill rather than something else?"
"....Nevermind. I think it was puberty voice."
flowey snorted. frisk shot him a dirty look.
"I'd like to see you do better, petalface."
he cackled.
"Absolutely not!"
"Why? Ya scared?"
"You think I wanna participate in the ear-destroyance party here?"
"Bok bok bok."
"No way in hell am I singing!"
"CHICKEEE-"
"Children."
toriel gave them a stern mother look™ and the two quieted immediately.
"Be nice."
"Frisk, you did wonderfully."
"Thank you."
they gave a smug look to flowey. he rolled his eyes.
——
"nah."
"Why not?"
frisk pouted.
"i'm monotone while 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴. you really think my singing's any better?"
"I would at least like to hear you try."
tori gave me a gentle smile.
"speaking of things i'm not good at, trying's one of those."
"If you duet with Papyrus, nobody'll even be able to hear you."
flowey motioned to my brother, who was queueing more songs with undyne and alphys.
"Aw. A bros duet would be cute."
"Please, Sans?"
"........"
(sigh.)
"papyrus. you wanna duet something with me?"
socket widening.
"R-REALLY?!"
"yeah."
"ABSOLUTELY!!"
"you pick the song."
——
The low notes of Sans' voice balance against his brother's in a nice way.
His eyes keep meeting with my own, and it feels more and more intentional with each time.
But, perhaps not, as he snaps his eyelights elsewhere the moment he realizes the contact is happening...
Sans certainly seems to be leaning on the fact that his brother is so powerful with singing to cover up his own.
I understand. The only time I myself have sung much tonight is behind Frisk's voice.
Everyone in the room seems to be stunned by how well the two skeletons performed.
Frisk is requesting for Sans to do a song alone, and he's simply shaking his head in response.
"nope. one's good enough for me."
A part of me wishes to ask for a solo from Sans as well, but we have already pressured him into one.
Ah, well.
Perhaps some other day.
I suppose I should return this now.
——
it's definitely an anime song that alphys, undyne and papyrus are shouting together.
noticed flowey nodding off during all this. somehow.
"(He stayed up late last night.)"
"(doin' what?)"
"(Playing a game.)"
flowey jolted back awake with a particularly loud lyric shout from undyne. an annoyed look was shot, but he didn't say anything.
i swapped seats to be right next to him. he gave me a dubious glance.
"What?"
"i'm going to bed early."
"Congrats. You want a big send-off or something? I'll get the fanfare started."
"kinda looks like you should go to bed, too."
"....."
"I don't look like I need ANYTHING."
"my door's pretty good at soundproofing for the most part."
"..Fine. Just to get away from this ruckus and save my hearing."
he didn't seem as irritated with being set on my nightstand as i thought he would be. flowey might've even fallen asleep before i did.

Undertale AU Ideas involving Alphys
Because not everything can be about Sans Undertale, right?
(I had so much fricking fun writing, these oh my god.)
TW: Suicide and other heavy topics
1. Reincarnation
Alphys kills themselves and is revived similarly as Flowey.
This part of one of the Betrayed Undyne Endings stook with me for a bit. What would happen if she unsucessfully pulled it off and was brought back to life by Flowey or some other person? Perhaps even Undyne? They'd probably come back as maybe a robot or some sort of technological-based body.
And then like...Everything resets but Alphys stays the same and is basically now trapped in the role Flowey is. RESET after RESET trying to get back to their normal life and all of their friends, Alphys would realize that they can't go back and that this is their life now, going down a similar path as Asriel once did, but resorting to violence and hurting others far slower than Flowey did. Eventually they just become hopeless and go a bit crazy. Their goal however wouldn't be to become the GOD OF HYPERDEATH or TO STEAL YOUR SOUL or anything like that. They just want to be able to die and move on, maybe even reincarnate into a better life, just anything but THIS. And instead of teaching "It's KILL or BE KILLED", they teach "It's FIGHT or BE FOUGHT" (Less about hurting and killing people and more defending yourself from others), letting you learn how to fight and attack before how bullets and attacks work.
2. Destabilization
In an attempt to continue her plans in experimenting with DETERMINATION, Alphys chooses to inject herself with some of the substance over gathering fallen down monsters, only to eventually turn into an Amalgamate.
I have a feeling this idea has already been done, but screw it. Yes, I'm aware it's similar to things like Alphys NEO and Alphys Takes Action but WHO THE HECK CARES!?
After a few trials, Alphys decides to push their research further and, seeing as they don't want to risk any lives (and basically stopping the Amalgamates from happening), decides to test the stuff on herself without permission from or telling Asgore. The idea was less about making SOULs persist and more about a monster becoming as strong if not stronger than a human, potentially being able to shatter or cross The Barrier if successful. She was already dealing with low self esteem anyways, thinking that if this did fail and she died, would anyone even miss her? It wasn't much a loss, which motivated her further to do this to herself, injecting a SMALL dose of DETERMINATION into herself with the help of some complex machinery. At first, it worked and she was fine, and she took down notes about herself and continued her studies mostly normally, but as time progressed and she grew more stressed, more determined to finish her work and more obsessed over doing this for everyone, her body began to deteriorate as the DETERMINATION began overwhelming her. Eventually she wasn't able to leave the True Lab and had to send out Mettaton, who was growing more and more concerned about the doctor's condition, to do stuff for her via text messages and other forms of communication. Eventually, she went totally silent all together, resulting in Mettaton and Undyne going into the True Lab to check on her, only to find she'd transformed into something monstrous and unrecognizable. A fate almost similar to Gaster, actually. Brilliant scientists being shattered mentally and physically to their own creations.
3. Recollection/Reformation
Alphys tries to save Undyne before she dies after the Undying battle, but fails horribly as the rest of the Underground falls, Undyne ultimately becoming an Amalgam.
While evacuating everyone in Hotland into the True Lab, Alphys sent Mettaton to Waterfall to ensure Undyne escaped the battle alive if all went to Hell. Mettaton was able to stop the Human from landing the fatal blow and escorted Undyne out of the area, much to Undyne's disliking. They wanted to FINISH THE HUMAN, not RUN FROM THEM! Mettaton brought them back to the True Lab with Alphys, who recognized Undyne was moments away from melting and dusting away. The human had not landed the blow that would kill them instantly, but their health was slowly draining and the DETERMINATION was wearing off. In a state of panic, Alphys decided to simply inject MORE DETERMINATION into Undyne in hopes that would stabilize things. After all, Undyne had been pretty stable up until now when it came to having DETERMINATION. It should be fine, right?
It was not fine.
After injecting Undyne with more DETERMINATION, Alphys left the room for a second to reassure herself and find some things to help bandage Undyne up or ease their pain. When they came back, Undyne had vanished. She heard monsters from the hallways screaming and roaring, and quickly realized that, not only had Undyne transformed into an Amalgamate, but was actively getting into fights with the other Amalgams, who weren't happy about this newcomer's sudden arrival. Alphys was unable to stop any of it, and had to bare to the Amalgamates sloshing around and trying to eat each other alive, which then resulted in ALL OF THEM FUSING TOGETHER, Undyne having most control over the newly formed "monster" while the other, more scattered brains took a backseat. Alphys, both mortified and thankful to see Undyne in this state, was a tad bit more relieved to find that Undyne had actually kept most of her mental state and would in fact be staying alive. However, the issues popped up when it came to monitoring this giant amalgamate and breaking the news to everyone else in the area.
EXTRAS
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
4. Fragmentation
Alphys tries to off themself in a different way, choosing to dive into The Core hoping to plummet to their death. However, they end up shattering themself through time and space like Gaster presumably did.
I don't have much of a story or idea of what could happen from here, perhaps Alphys meeting Gaster or taking their place. You could do a lot with that idea, but I'm not sure where to even begin.
5. Ascension
Flowey makes a big frick-up and turns Alphys into a God. It's similar to The Thought where Sans absorbs the 6 Human Souls, but it's with Alphys and the reasons are drastically different.
While preparing to extract the DETERMINATION from the 6 Human Souls in the True Lab, Alphys encounters Flowey, who politely asks her for the SOULs to become a GOD, else he'll kill Alphys and take them by force. However, Alphys refuses and tries to run off with the SOULs, to which Flowey is quick to stab her with vines. The SOUL containers fall to the floor, shattering and releasing the SOULs, which Flowey proceeds to begin absorbing. However, before he can, Alphys retaliates and absorbs them HERSELF.
Not too sure what could/would happen afterwards though.

Horrortale: a summary.
As stated before, the UNDERTALE timeloop spans Frisk's tour through Mt. Ebott, with the condition that they or an unidentified third party can still loop back to their last or first SAVE point in the mountain for an indeterminate length of time after their return to the surface.
"Horrortale" is set in a later timeframe, within a timeline in which Frisk left monsterkind behind and Toriel attempted to return to the throne, but was forced back into exile and her position usurped by Undyne after Frisk reinforced monsters' fear and distrust of humans.
What distinguishes this version of the world, and what makes it difficult to identify as an AT or an AU, is what happens next.
The following seven-to-eight years have been dire, raising tensions between everyone, and as if it were a contagion, a frenzy of desperation has seemingly overtaken the kingdom. Monsters have been starving. The CORE suffered a shutdown, both symptomatic and causational of multiple shortages in resources. Sans was alerted of their intentions by an echoflower, but... Alphys... in trying to redeem herself to Queen Undyne and... talk her down from... self-destructing... encouraged her to use Sans' "eye" to repower it. He had an alternate solution to offer, but when Sans was cornered, it went... catastrophically. He sustained a traumatic skull injury, but was kept alive by his "eye" even after it was taken by force, and in retaliation, he stole another eye from a guard he killed, destroyed the CORE and... and dealt back a traumatic head injury back on Alphys, which her cognitive function would not survive.
He then declared in Snowdin that the mandate to collect SOULs would be abandoned in favor of... eating... the next humans to fall... and that any mention of this change of plans around Queen Undyne would be a punishable offense. He continues to scare other monsters now that he keeps a red eye in his broken socket, and Papyrus' teeth have become crooked since cooking with... human... meat.
It seems that since this incident, humans have begun to fall in at greater frequency. Exactly the kind of miracle monsterkind needed after Flowey took the other SOULs and Frisk departed intact, only it was a few years too late. Queen Undyne intended war, monsters had become man-eaters, even dust-eaters, and some, like her majesty Toriel, feared that the Barrier would now be the only thing holding humans back from a finishing counterstrike.
Then came a twelve-year-old child... the fallen human Aliza.
Like in Underfell, the flower chooses to follow her around now that monsters have become the aggressors, though he looks different with an eye now taking up his whole face. Perhaps an aftereffect of the form he took when he absorbed the SOULS? It is certainly a more... innocent change in comparison. In any case, her majesty Toriel has become overbearing and quickly burned him down, yet her vision and her competency at keeping a human healthy have deteriorated significantly by the time she takes in Aliza.
Aliza is able to use a hidden vial of healing water to revive Flowey, and in return he teaches her how to use her fear to access the SAVE. Now that she can Reload, she is able to pass by Toriel's interference in front of the door, Sans' attacks from outside it, and his and Papyrus' challenges. Though, in the interest of fairness, Papyrus offers three "freebies" to Aliza, invoked by hand signs, wherein he would oblige to bail her out.
Between puzzles, she also rebuilds a snowman and is given its carrot nose as a show of thanks.
Aliza does not (adamantly) spend her first freebie until the second lethal puzzle, but interestingly, SAVEs do not completely undo the harm she Reloads from. She retains scars on her neck where a trap in the first puzzle decapitates her, and her hair is damp with blue snow at the next puzzle– which she sinks into the first time and drowns. Sans accuses her of cheating when he notices, and attempts to cut off her ear as penalty, but he is scared off by Flowey's impression of a growl from the trees. The next time they cross paths, Sans offers a hot dog and... fails to discourage her from eating... Papyrus' spaghetti. This at least seems to dissuade his suspicion that she cheats, but he does not spare her from learning what or who was in what she ate.
As she is pointed to the Snowdin restaurant, the mayor divulges what he knows about Sans to Aliza before the patrons gather to drag her to Grillby– whose body as a fire elemental has been cannibalizing itself as it starves for magical sustenance. Her back is burned as he attempts to cook her alive, but she is rescued by Papyrus when she invokes her second aforementioned freebie and he declares that Queen Undyne is coming– which soon turns out to be more than a bluff.
Supposedly, Sans had abstained from eating human meat despite being the one to declare that monsters should, but when Aliza is thrown outside in the panic, the smell of her burns... drives him into a feeding frenzy... and he rips off her arm... but Papyrus strikes him in the face before he can take a bite.
Note: it seems that these frenzies also cause Sans to leak black fluid from his mouth, not too dissimilar from the black tears observed from Chara when overwhelming Frisk with bloodlust.
Aliza, meanwhile, escapes into the woods where she can overhear Queen Undyne threatening the townsfolk for the theft of her candy. Thinking fast, she uses the blue snow and a piece of charcoal Flowey found to make a disguise before rushing in to take the fall, earning Snowdin's camaraderie. When Queen Undyne orders Ailza to identify herself, Papyrus takes a neighbor's suggestion but misspeaks, interjecting to accidentally declares she is Sans' daughter. Queen Undyne quickly takes interest and tries to take her away to gain leverage on Sans and interrogate her for his weaknesses, only this leads to the townsfolk standing up to the queen and her guard. Queen Undyne backs down when Sans reappears, only just learning he now has a "daughter."
Sans and Papyrus then argues over whose should be the fifth puzzle, until Aliza interjects to choose between them herself. She chooses Papyrus' puzzle, which consists of red lines around the house eventually leading into the oven. Aliza argues with Flowey, and he closes it on her as the heat begins to melt off her disguise. The smell attracts Papyrus, which similarly sends him into a frenzy as he wrenches the oven door back open, but Aliza knocks him out with a baking pan as soon as she is free. Her next move is to take a knife she finds to mince the carrot she received before and, along with medicine she'd found in Toriel's home, adds it to the tomato paste one of the monsters gave her as repayment for inspiring them all to stand together against Undyne. The activity stirs Sans' appetite again, but he is taken off-guard after she gives him the mixture in a ketchup bottle as a peace offering.
He cautiously accepts, and the mayor of Snowdin brings Aliza... a meal, affirming her welcome into the town.
...
It has been a philosophical debate for perhaps as long as the concept of philosophical debates themselves. Which is the greater force, love or hate? Anger or fear? Hope or despair? My research, my experiences, would certainly make a compelling argument that it would be Determination. The epitome of willpower. But what force can override that?
The possibility of tampered code may diminish its legitimacy to some degree, maybe even a great degree. But looking at this UA, when it comes to close competitors against Determination, there is something to be said about the way people can be overwhelmed by desperation...

Scar's World Synops ;3
Cw: Death, Violence, Cannibalism, Starvation, General Horror Badtimes McGee
Scar's world is Horrortale-Inspired world. I also take some inspiration from Axetale [I enjoy the visceral horror designs/concepts, but as a heads up it is a Frans AU].
I don't have a name for Scar's particular version, or designs n shit for anyone, b/c really just fleshed this out a bit for Scar. :3
Anyway:
The Underground
Neutral Route -
Frisk fought a lot of the monsters in the ruins out of a sense of fear and self-defense despite Toriel's guidance. They have a hard time with Toriel, not just because she's a boss monster, but because it feels bad.
They turn a lot more pacifist as they journey through Snowdin and befriend Papyrus. They don't befriend Undyne though, and struggle between wanting to fight her and running away. So when Undyne faints they leave her.
This all ends with Asgore dying and then the Flowey fight. Frisk does defeat Flowey but dies in the process, and as a result all the determination in Frisk, Flowey, and the 6 human souls gets released into the underground and corrupts it.
All the save stars pop and the Core starts to malfunction.
Post-Neutral -
Undyne takes over and militarizes like Sans says in his message. The Cores malfunctioning makes energy and food difficult leading to more and more rationing and things are looking more and more bleak as it continues to fail. It regularly stalls.
Monsters start falling down but they don't dust as quickly as they should, their bodies lingering for longer. Wounds are much milkier and gooier. After some testing Alphys finds that the monsters have all contracted DT Syndrome - an effect of the ambient DT in their underground.
The amalgamates, already very hungry creatures, escape during a Core outage. Due to their ravenous frenzied hunger they devour Alphys who accepts her fate. Undyne finds her remains and loses her mind, attempting to kill the Amalgamates but they just...reassemble in crude ways. Many consider the lab cursed and New Home is cut off from the rest of the underground.
Without access to the lab, and with Alphys gone, the Core fails.
Undyne does not recover from Alphys' loss and her horrors of fighting with the amalgamates. She returns to waterfall to stalk the swampy waters. She eventually becomes a horrific beast.
Before that, however, Papyrus is distraught over the loss of his friends. Sans, knowing something is wrong, goes to check on Undyne for Papyrus [because he doesnt want Papyrus to do it]. This leads to him getting attacked by Undyne and he barely makes it back to Snowdin where Papyrus manages to keep him alive and looks after him while he recovers.
Waterfall becomes impassable, with Papyrus warning Snowdin away and in general trying to just keep Snowdin and its residents generally ok.
Things fall apart over time as the hunger takes over. Monsters physically change in response to their circumstances, and it gets worse when they fall to desperate violence fueled by the ambient DT. The combination of LV and DT Syndrome combined makes monsters beastly and easily prone to feral frenzies. Their actions get more and more horrific as time passes and their underground decays.
The monsters of Snowdin slowly separate more and more until they're essentially in family units and violent to everyone else [and even to each other].
Scar
Scar is a very close variant of Kelek so you can just...imagine regular Kelek to start with. Scar is a surface monster, a decedent of monsters that didn't get trapped underground and live in hiding on the surface.
For whatever reason he ends up falling down like the humans before [perhaps for unhappy reasons]. The ruins are completely empty when he falls and he lingers for a while primarily because he's very confused on where he is.
He eventually finds his way out but unfortunately the door locks behind him, leaving what little food was left in Toriel's home unreachable.
Since he is in his human-disguise he ends up having a confrontation with the local monsters and he gets hurt. He manages to run away terrified and ends up removing his seal to blend in. While they don't recognize his species Snowdin accepts him well enough.
Waterfall is off limits by the time he's there, and has been since a little before he actually fell. Scar stays at the Inn, helping out however he can - one way is using his comfy magic to help ease the monsters and make some objects. But it gets more and more difficult to use.
He ends up offering his unwanted meat after considering and testing the waters. He recovers from the procedure at the Inn with regular checkups with a resident Snowdin healer/doctor/whatever. This all occurs over a series of months, meaning the hunger is getting worse and worse.
To the point that Scar is betrayed at his last checkup and he loses his eye. He flees to the forest, no longer trusting others, especially after hearing whispered plans of betrayal. Paranoia festers in the underground and Scar is not spared.
He honestly figures he'll die, but he may as well try [perhaps slightly linked to the ambient DT]. Obviously he survives, starting with small shelters. He becomes stronger due to frenzies that force his hand; and as he loses his mind and becomes more beastly himself, his need to defend his territory for safety increases. He loses his left ear when he's almost blinded in a fight, and ends up scaring off his opponent.
He ate his own ear.
He rarely goes to Snowdin for desperate supply runs since it is extremely dangerous. He's gotten decent at making his own tools, and will strip twigs and things to make his own thread but he prefers spools.
He's barely surviving but has ended up fairly strong in his own right, to the point he is feared in frenzy.
His world does not have a happy ending. I imagine when Snaps showed up that Scar's world is actively dying, and Scar would certainly end up dying in the future [either to starvation, the elements, or devoured].
#maybe ill draw this out sometime but i thought id give people a general idea of what i envision#skfhskjfd#this was longer than i planned#and i still think i forgot some deets#but thats the just#skelekins writes#scar#scar's world#scar lore#idk how to tag this lmao

Vtubertale Synopsis
Howdy! I'm Asriel Dreemurr. Prince of the Underground and Ambassador of the Monsters to the Humans. In my spare time, I'm a Twitch Streamer and an online tech worker.
Maybe you came here because you've heard of my Vtuber name: Arc Spark. I got that name in my welding class. I went to scratch my forehead when I had a hot piece of metal in my hand and burned the fur on my forehead. I smelled funky for a week.
So you've heard of the Undertale have you? The tale of my brother, or sister Frisk (depending on the universe) coming to the Underground to save or destroy Monsterkind? Along with either my help or interference. Yeah, as the Former Angel of Hyperdeath, I still retain most of my knowledge from my Angel form regarding the surrounding Multiverse of realities and universes. I even briefly communicated with a few of my alternate selves.
I bet though you haven't heard it told the way I'm gonna tell you. In this universe there are a lot of things different but still generally the same as to what you have heard.
Well, you probably know it already but I suppose it can't hurt to recount it a little:
youtube
Long ago, two races ruled over the Earth. Humans and Monsters.
For a long time, the two races were on friendly terms. Perhaps a little ignorant of one another but peace was widespread and commonplace.
Then mankind learned of Monsterkind's ability to absorb human souls to become even more powerful.
Monsters were instinctively good and peaceful and would never even fathom stealing a human soul. Unfortunately, this was not good enough for humans.
Fear and Suspicion began to reign through the human kingdoms after word had spread.
One day, a war broke out between the two races. But one could hardly call it a war. It was a massacre.
After a long battle, the humans were victorious.
My father Asgore rose up to take his father's place as King. Mom was probably there too, but she doesn't like talking about that time.
They sealed the Monsters underground with a magic spell.
Many centuries later...I was born.
I was shy and lonely for the longest time. I didn't have any friends. The Castle wasn't really a place for making friends. I think I remember seeing Undyne in the Castle as a kid. The only one who would talk to me was Muffet. The little spider girl whose family resided just outside the castle walls.
And then, one day when I was exploring around the flowers, I found someone had fallen into the Ruins.
...Her.
Look...
You already know the tale of my former sibling Chara. I won't bore you with the painful details and I'm not really in the mood to rehash them. The information is out there already in the "game" Mr. Toby Fox made and it's similar enough to what happened to me. So I'll fast forward.
After the "plan" failed and Chara and I were killed by the humans, the former Head Royal Scientist W.D. Gaster secretly gathered my dust and what remained of my soul. He desperately wanted to help Dad and Mom by finding a way to bring me back. And subsequently, find a way to break the barrier.
I'm still fuzzy on the details as to what he did exactly, but he created the DT Extractor and many other marvelous inventions to help us. To this day I think Alphys is still studying what he left behind. I don't think she remembers him though. Having your existence explode in a lab accident across reality tends to do that.
Dad wasn't thinking that day and made a really bad mistake. He declared war on humanity and still pays for it to this day. Every man, woman, or child that fell into the Underground would die. And they would have their souls extracted.
Honestly? I don't hate him for it. I can't. How can I? I've done just as much if not even more unpleasant things than he has done.
When Mom left for the Ruins, intending to leave Dad forever, she found she was pregnant with one more child.
A year later, in the silence of our old house, my youngest brother Ralsei was born. Mom tells me he was born with Albinism. A lack of melanin in the body apparently. Pure white fur even whiter than our own, pure white skin. His eyes especially were hit hard. Pink like Hibiscus Flowers. Made him severely nearsighted.
When he was old enough, Mom had him start wearing glasses she made from some crystal that grew in the cave walls. I think I saw some guy in an anime do that. Dr Stone, I think?
I remember seeing Ralsei as...that flower. And I remember feeling jealousy and hate, but maybe a piece of me left over kept that flower from acting on it.
Mom kept an eye on him at all times and taught him everything she knew about cooking, baking, public speaking, botany, art and even healing.
Mom tells me he was a very lonely child like I was, maybe even a little more so. Mom and he probably developed a few mental illnesses being alone down there. Lately, they've been going to see professional help to talk about that time. It hasn't been pretty but the five of us are helping them get through it.
Ralsei developed an affinity for healing magic and herbal remedies. He loved science and medical topics. One time when a Froggit hurt its leg, he took it in and helped it heal back to normal.
When Frisk came along...you know the drill. The Flower greeted him with that tired psychopath routine you've seen a million times in playthroughs of the game Mr. Fox made about our lives.
"Kill or Be Killed" and all of that stupid junk that Flower was spouting. I sure hate myself for that time. Everything I did was seared into my brain forever. I can't get rid of the memories and I often have vivid nightmares about that time without my soul.
Both Mom and Ralsei were there to greet him with open arms. They were very clingy with Frisk after having dealt with losing six other human children. Ralsei especially took to Frisk even more so than the other human children. They hit it off really well.
The Flower sure didn't like seeing how well their bond was developing.
When Frisk finally decided to leave, Ralsei snuck out after him. I don't know why the flower didn't try to hurt him.
Mom obviously noticed his disappearance, but Frisk and I were a lot faster than them.
Frisk and Ralsei helped me fill in the gaps of details of his journey cause I wasn't there the whole time. I don't think the flower was omniscient. Not to my knowledge anyway.
Flash Forward again. Frisk and Ralsei meet those Smily Trashbags, Monster Kid, Undyne, Alphys, Mettaton, Catti, and Bratty. Frisk helps everyone and then finally met my father with Ralsei and Mom not far behind.
When Dad met Ralsei for the first time, he just couldn't bring himself to fight anymore. Mom was there to step in and the gang as you know them popped in one after another.
The Flower couldn't take it anymore. So he snuck into the basement where Dad was holding the human souls. Then he ruined the reunion.
But after Frisk befriended every monster in the Underground, listened to them, helping them with their problems, everyone sensed their new friend was in danger.
Then...I was suddenly back. But not entirely there. Frisk had to smack sense back into me while I was raging out in Angel of Hyperdeath mode. Suddenly, I could feel emotions again. I could love again. I'll never be able to fully thank him for saving me.
Frisk took it upon himself to break off a piece of his own soul and ask the other six human souls for small pieces of theirs to replace the lost pieces of my soul. It worked all right. Maybe a little too good.
Maybe I'll post the details of my reunion with everyone soon, but it's still a little private. But I can tell you meeting my new brothers Frisk and Ralsei for the first time was...amazing.
Frisk helped reintroduce us to the Surface and to mankind. Apparently, the Surface country was now called England. Frisk, Mom, and Dad got the cushy government jobs of becoming ambassadors of the monsters. We all settled in the city closest to Mt. Ebott, which was also named Ebott City.
As it turns out, having a rainbow soul filled with several different human souls made me and all of monster-kind immortal. Frisk through his connection to me got the perk too. The only problem was, only after three weeks of being on the surface, I had a really big growth spurt.
And I grew into the teenage beefcake you see before you now. With those strange black markings from my Angel form still plastered all over my body.
Because of Frisk's position, everyone got really good houses or apartments in the city. We in particular were given an entire apartment building all to ourselves with an eight-room apartment that stretched two floors. It was three times the size of our old house. Local police kept an eye on our building for us and the government kept tabs on us to make sure we were safe. And probably to make sure we didn't cause any trouble.
Not long after, we found a little monster girl hanging outside our house. As it turns out she was left behind while we were making the transition to the surface. She had heard about Frisk and was asking around town where we lived. Her name was Susie.
A purple little dino monster with long dark brown hair, frightening strength, and muscles to boot.
She had been an orphan for a long time. Apparently, her parents were one of Alphys' first failed Determination experiments. They didn't even get a chance to turn into Amalgamates like the others.
Because Mom can't say no to children, I now have a new sister. She took to Frisk and Ralsei unusually well and they became something of a team. But Frisk and I are still really close. Even after my little growth spurt.
So with me, we are now a six-person family living in a two-story apartment. At least it's never boring.
Along with school, I had to find some way to make sense of my days and the complications of my past life, so I found a way to contribute. Remote tech support, a few online odd jobs, and some modeling.
No, I'm not kidding. Miss Muffet is giving me a few jobs here and there as a Male Monster Model. I do a bit of everything. Cologne, Underwear, fast food commercials, etc. So, ladies, you may be seeing me with my shirt off sometime in the near future. I have a VERY good profile.
And the thing you came here for...
Becoming a Vtuber.
I figured entertaining the masses might be fun. Doing what I want but also providing some levity for all you humans and monsters out there.
I'll be posting more specific details of my story and how things played out in the future. As well as individual stories of how everyone is doing these days. Maybe I'll even post a few pictures here and there.
But until then, come and check me out on Twitch and give me a follow! I'd hugely appreciate it!
I also have an Instagram, a Twitter, and obviously a Tumblr here! Come on in and say hi!

Until you reach Sans, Chara makes no effort to discourage or persuade you. They just state objectively ‘x left’ or ‘but nobody came’.
There is one point prior to this where they do seem to be a bit more... forceful.
This is right before the bridge with Monster Kid and Undyne the Undying. Notice that this isn't even at a save point. This is the only time the narrator actively intervenes, which is odd because you can still abort the route after this point, either by sparing MK or by not killing everyone in Hotland. Although, I think if you don't fight UtU, you get a "normal" neutral ending: you fight Mettaton EX instead of Mettaton NEO, you don't get the phone call from Alphys, and you don't get Flowey asking why you had to go and mess things up. (Not sure about that last one; maybe the trigger for that is exhausting the enemies in the Ruins, since that triggers Flowey immediately recognizing you as "Chara".)
Either way, it seems like the narrator really wants to make sure you at least fight Undyne the Undying, but for some reason they're not as invested in getting you to fight Sans. Perhaps they simply have more faith in Undyne?
Thinking about it. People have discussed to death and debated over whether Chara was ‘good’ or ‘evil’, and talked about their feelings on fandom’s early tendency to cast them as a villain. But now I’m wondering why a lot of fanworks cast them as a hyperactive little shit who swears a lot, gets mad easily, argues with everyone, and is sassy as hell.
Sassy and sarcastic I can see if you’re going by Narra Chara. But rude, hyperactive, yandere-esque, and especially the swear words… not so much?
And yeah, I could make arguments about how hiding their face paints a very shy and quiet image. But I’m not going to grasp at straws from still images. I’m going to use dialogue very few ‘Chara is evil’ believers are willing to argue DIDN’T come from them.
In No Mercy, which is the one route basically everyone agrees they narrate, they’re direct and to the point and usually distant and unemotional. They’re not yelling that you’re a fucking donkey for believing you’re above consequences and can take back control, or heartlessly ripping into the monsters for being so foolishly naive and weak, or gloating over their victory. They calmly explain who and what they are, and what they want. The few times they do insult you, they use sophisticated words like ‘perverse sentimentality’. When they dismiss the monsters they’ve met until now, they don’t go out of their way to be really cruel and insulting. They remain direct and to the point, and are usually cold and harsh statements of fact.
Toriel’s check in No Mercy is ‘Not worth talking to.’ They’re not wrong. In every other route, talking does nothing, only persistently sparing her lets you make progress.
Papyrus gets ‘Forgettable’. Again, they’re not wrong. Very few monsters really take notice of him, most only remembering him in relation to other people. As ‘Sans’ brother’ or ‘Undyne’s trainee’.
Monster Kid is just ‘in my way’. Cruel, but objectively not wrong. It’s less of a ponted insult, and more how little they think of them.
For Undyne, the narrator isn’t even particularly cold or disrespectful. In two out of three possible flavor texts, they refer to Undyne as ‘the heroine’. Quite a compliment, and one that isn’t wrong, considering how she’s standing up to a mass murderer and protects Monster Kid.
Mettaton, in No Mercy, gets similarly positive or neutral remarks. ‘Dr Alphys’ greatest invention’ and ‘Mettaton NEO blocks your way’. He sure is blocking your way. And most of the Underground sure does know him as Dr Alphys’ greatest invention. I guess it could be read as sarcastic, but with the tone of all these other bits of flavor text, it feels more like a neutral statement…?
And of course. Sans. He probably has the absolute biggest variety of No Mercy flavor text. ‘The easiest enemy’ could be read as insulting, but this is corrected to a more objective statement of encouragement. ‘He can’t keep dodging forever. Just keep attacking.’ Other bits of flavor text are objective assessments of how tired Sans is, how YOU feel, and how dwelling on the flavor text isn’t a great use of time. At no point do they call him smiley trashbag, that comedian, or…anything really insulting.
At no point do they call ANYONE anything especially insulting. They’re not like Flowey, calling everyone idiots. If anything, a villainous and murderous Chara comes off as more cold and distant. Even the Save Points don’t tell you ‘5 more idiot babies to slaughter’ or specifically demand that you finish everyone off before moving on. Until you reach Sans, Chara makes no effort to discourage or persuade you. They just state objectively ‘x left’ or ‘but nobody came’.
They just… don’t care. They don’t care about any of these people anymore, not even enough to waste energy on insulting them. All they care about is reaching ‘the end’. (Or one could argue they’re at least trying to act like they don’t care.)
Chara states that they were confused upon awakening and chose to follow your lead. Personally I’m inclined to believe that they’re not lying. They choose to follow our orders to the utmost, even when they do not understand those orders, even when those orders lead them to the edge of annihilation.
On a final note. It’s kinda sad how Chara’s systematic completionist mentality is cold and horrifying in No Mercy… but in the Winter Alarm Clock dialogue, it’s a funny anecdote of a more lighthearted time which both Asgore and Toriel remember fondly, and a behavior Asriel still continues to emulate even after he stops idolizing Chara.
Any trait, when taken to the extreme, can become nightmarish.
#undertale#i agree with everything else you've said though#possible doylist reason is that maybe toby fox likes battle against a true hero more than megalovania#i don't think he dislikes megalovania. but i'm sure it also reminds him of the halloween hack which he doesn't seem especially proud of

@eroshiyda Yet another pleasantly surprising request! One case of fishy love, coming right up.
Undyne wouldn’t have even noticed her huddled up in the corner of the waiting room if she didn’t fidget so freakin much. Once Undyne was aware of the lizard monster’s presence, she adjusted herself in her seat in order to keep the pale yellow lump in her line of sight. Since losing her eye a few weeks back, Undyne had been trying to break herself into the habit of always keeping her opponents on the side of her good eye.
That included the monster on the opppsite side of the line of chairs against the wall. She just sat there, folded in on herself like she was trying to force herself to get smaller. At first Undyne thought the girl was aimlessly twiddling her thumbs, but upon closer inspection, she saw that she was tapping away at a phone that was partially hidden beneath her hunched figure.
Undyne tapped one of her sharpened nails against the arm of her chair. Where the hell was Asgore? He was supposed to meet her five minutes ago.Once Undyne noticed the fiddling and the tapping of claws on keys, she couldn’t un-notice it. It burrowed into her ears and made her skin itch. She scratched absently at her arms, then her ears, and then stopped herself just in time from scratching the puffy lump of flesh where her eye used to be. But goddamn it itched.
She tried to think of literally anything else. Swords. Punching. Punching something with swords. But the tapping and the fidgeting had already crawled under her skin. Sometimes she would meditate under the freezing, endless pounding of waterfalls, but compared to this torture, that was a pleasant shower.
Come on Undyne, she thought. You’re supposed to be invincible. Unbreakable. Badass.
A pleasant walk through Asgore’s garden.
Tap tap tap.
Making crappy spaghetti with Papyrus.
Click. Click click.
A perfectly executed stab right into-
Tap tap. Click-
“Nnnnnnnnaaaaaaaaagh!” The growl grew from somewhere deep in Undyne’s chest and emerged as a snarl. The lizard monster jumped in her chair with a small shriek, finally revealing her bespectacled face.
Undyne shoved her chair back as she stood; the force of it left skid marks on the polished tile. She crossed the distance of the room in two strides. The yellow monster gripped onto the sides of her chair for dear life, shrinking her head back until only her glasses could be seen peeking out from the collar of her lab coat.
“Could you-” Undyne started. She clenched and unclenched her hand, digging small cuts into her palms trying to find the words. “Could you just-” Her gills opened and closed at double time with rage-fueled adrenaline, and her facial fins flared wide.
But seeing the pathetic lump of lab coat and scales in front of her knocked her pride down enough pegs to make her lose her thought. She huffed out of her gills, her facial fins drooping.
Trying to regain her cool, she asked “So... what are you?” She gestured to the lab coat. “Some kind of scientist?”
The lizard’s head slowly emerged from the fold of her coat like some sort of yellow tortoise. “P-pardon?” Before Undyne could respond, the monster had already started stammering and fidgeting with the buttons on her coat.
“O-oh, because of m-my c-coat.” She laughed nervously, sweat pouring from her forehead. Undyne didn’t even know that reptiles could sweat. And what was with that stutter?
“Um, n-no. I m-mean yes.” She adjusted her glasses and took a deep breath. “Actually I-I was j-just hired not t-too long ago to be the r-royal scientist.”
Undyne crossed her arms. “I see.” She didn’t even know such a position existed. She guessed even nerds needed a leader. “So you’re here to see Asgore, too, I assume?”
“W-well yes. B-but don’t worry, m-my appointment isn’t f-for another-” she whipped out her phone and checked the time. “-th-thirty-four minutes.”
Undyne had barely opened her mouth when the other monster started up again. “I-I know I’m early, b-but I didn’t w-want to risk being l-late to my f-first appointment. You know, y-you can get s-stuck in traffic, o-or the f-ferry could break down, or you c-could get hopelessly lost, or have th-the wrong time, or g-get mugged by theives-”
She wiped at the sweat on her face with her sleeve.
“-and then y-you get fired f-from a job that you just g-got, and you g-go into debt, and you have t-to live at the dump b-because (let’s f-face it) that’s wh-where you belong anyways and…” She trailed off, her eyes still spiraling into some twisted hypothetical that Undyne couldn’t possibly imagine.
Undyne glanced to the side, waiting for the questionably insane girl to come out of her awkward trance. When she didn’t, Undyne launched her hand out.
“Well, I’m Undyne,” she said. “Current captain of the Royal Guard.” Probably soon to be ex-captain. That’s probably what this whole meeting was about. She couldn’t blame Asgore: who in their right mind would want a one-eyed soldier?
The scientist stared at Undyne’s hand for a moment like it was some sort of exotic slug. She awkwardly took it, and as Undyne expected, her hand was dripping with sweat.
“Oh, I kn-know who you are,” she said. “You’re k-kind of a legend wh-where I’m from.”
Yeah. A legendary failure, maybe.
“I’m A-Alphys. O-or Doctor Alphys n-now, I suppose.”
Her gaze drifted to a spot on Undyne’s face. Undyne broke the handshake, but the doctor’s eyes lingered on the spot.
“What are you gawking at?” Undyne asked quietly.
“H-huh?”
But Undyne knew exactly what the doctor was looking at. It was the same thing everyone stared at. It was the first thing they saw now. The only thing they saw.
“What?” Undyne leaned closer, and the doctor flinched. “You never saw someone with one eye before?” Undyne knew it was pretty gruesome to look at, and that’s exactly why she shoved it closer to the doctor’s face.
“Oh g-god, I’m so s-sorry.” With her yellow skin, the doctor’s blush came out as a bright vermilion. “I m-mean it’s just s-so fascinating, from an a-anatomical viewpoint, I m-mean. I d-didn’t mean to stare, it’s j-just a b-bad habit of m-mine to want to c-collect data and m-make observations-”
“Would you just come out with it already?!”
The doctor froze. Undyne was sick of all of the dancing around the matter. Nobody ever said what they were really thinking. They were all cowards. They could never say it to her face.
They could never say that she was broken.
They didn’t have to.
Undyne waited for more stuttering. For the slap of an insult. Perhaps the sweet satisfaction of someone exploding on her for once.
“It’s just so cool.”
What?
Undyne looked down into the doctor’s face. Behind the foggy lenses, her eyes were...sparkling? How was that even possible?
For one frozen moment, the doctor had stopped fidgeting. That last sentence had been free of stuttering, too. She was being…honest.
Then the moment ended. “Ahahaha o-oh my god that’s s-super insensitive of m-me.” She took her glasses off, cleaned them, put them back on, and repeated. “I m-mean I’m t-totally sorry it m-must be r-really hard and extremely p-painful I m-mean…”
Undyne only stared.
“I’m s-sorry,” the doctor squeaked.
Undyne picked absently at her scales. Her face suddenly felt super hot. “Nah…” she said. “It doesn’t really hurt.”
Actually, it was, in fact, extremely painful. Even a gust of wind across the scarred tissue would send her nerves screaming. Living in a place like Waterfall was a nightmare: with winds and rain and icy gusts coming from the West and bursts of intense humidity coming from the East. She would parade around all day, battling with the urge to cover the sensitive lump with her hand. The moment she got home she would rush to a mirror and meticulously inspect for sand or dust that she was sure was there.
“Not much, anyways.” Undyne’s scales were suddenly very fascinating, and she couldn’t stop picking at them. But when she spoke, it was directed at the doctor.
“I was thinking about getting an eyepatch.”
One beat went by, and the doctor said nothing. Two beats. Undyne dared to peek up at her reaction.
The doctor’s mouth was agape, revealing a (sort of cute?) overbite. If her eyes were sparkling before, they were filled with stars now.
“That’s so badass.”
Undyne laughed. It was a nervous laugh at first, and then it was a laugh that she couldn’t stop. It was as if doubt and tension was stored as hot air and could only be released through laughs.
When it was finally all out, Undyne collapsed into the chair next to the doctor. It was her turn to fidget. “So uh, I feel like a total dope,” she said. Actually she felt like a complete and utter jackass. “But, uh, what’s your name again?”
The doctor smiled for the first time. “Alphys.”
Undyne gazed up at the ceiling. “So...you think the patch would be a good idea?”
The doc-Alphys nodded so vigorously that her glasses came loose. She readjusted them.
“Undyne.” Undyne looked up to find Asgore standing in the doorway. She bolted upright. The big guy sure could be quiet when he wanted to.
“I deeply apologize for being so late,” he said. He caught sight of Alphys. “Oh, good to see you again, doctor. I hope the two of you were able to get acquainted.” He swept Undyne into the doorway and started to shoo her down the hall. “I am afraid I will be a little late for your appointment, as well.”
Undyne couldn’t make out the words to Alphys’ stuttered response, but she realized that, after awhile, the stutter kind of grew on you.
Asgore and Undyne walked down the hall towards the throne room. “Did you get the chance to meet our new royal scientist?” Asgore asked.
“Mhmm,” Undyne mumbled. She touched her cheek under the missing eye. What kind of eyepatch would Alphys think is the coolest?
She felt Asgore nudge her in the ribs, and even such a gentle movement threw her off balance. “What?” she asked
Asgore just wiggled his eyebrows down at her.
“Asgore, oh my god.”
“I did not say anything.”
Undyne suddenly remembered where she was. “Asgore, are you firing me?”
“Firing you? Heavens no.” He placed a gentle, furry arm around her shoulders. “It’s time for our monthly tea, remember?”
Oh. Duh.
Badass, Alphys had said.
Yeah, Undyne thought. I am badass.

go off on ANYONE you wanna!!
Well you asked for this! So now I have to!
I made a list of 15 characters i felt like I could make a really passionate rant about (one of them is a group, actually) and Papyrus was picked. I... have a lot to say and this is gonna be super messy but, I hope you enjoy.
Every major battle in Undertale has its quirks and I think that Papyrus' is my favorite in that regard. You see... all the battles in a neutral run have an element of mystery that allows you to keep going without your actions having much consequences. Not even Alphys, who's been watching you throughout all of it can see that battle, because it happens in the middle of a foggy area. However the tone of the game changes instantly if you kill him. Snowdin town has a different atmosphere. Even people who never knew Papyrus feel something changed. Sans stops rooting for you and judges you deeply for it (and with good reason, we'll get there later!). Undyne is heartbroken, and at the start of her battle she can't even say he's dead. She knows him, the way he acts, how he treats people, and she can't even begin to understand just what YOU did to him. Let alone WHY. Papyrus, who thought of himself as someone lonely, who always did his best, leaves an incredible mark. If Toriel's alive, trying to rule again won't work because your actions have shown monsters once again that humans can't be trusted in any way.
And the thing is, all the hate you receive? It's completely deserved. Because Papyrus doesn't kill you. NEVER. He sends you to the shed. Yeah, it's not suitable for a human child, true. But we gotta take into account that no human has fallen in a very long time and what they know is very little. But he tries to make the experience fun, he makes puzzles that are fun. that have hints on them and that are completely fair. Sure, he's kinda brutal at times (colored tile, electricity maze, the gauntlet of deadly terror (idk if i spelt that right) but he would never do irrepairable damage on purpose.
In fact, he is good at keeping things in control: Papyrus doesn't let you kill him before stopping the battle. If you were a kid in Frisk's position it is understandable that you'd be scared and attack those who hurt you. Perhaps even kill a few enemies. Papyrus is battling you to stop you, mostly, but he doesn't put his soul into it. He knows the limits. So, if he sees risk..., either for yourself (by getting hurt until the last bit of HP), or himself (by attacking himseveral turns), he will spare you. He will offer to lay down his attacks and let you go. If you reject that. Can you say again that you're acting out of self defense? Can you say that you only kill to survive? I don't think so. So say, if you had a special power wouldn't it be your responsibility to do the right thing?" Yes? Then why'd you kill him?
And it doesn't stop at that. The thing with him is that he's the one that makes you feel welcome. Without this guy, Undyne wouldn't be your friend, let alone Alphys. He is a cohesive force and makes sure that not only Frisk is okay, but that they have someone to rely on. Even in the worst possible timeline, where he knows that everyone else is scared of you because of your actions, where he is AWARE of what you've done, he offers to help. He lets you make the choice not to go into battle, to change your path. To save you from a life of conflict and fear. Of course he's scared. But if it works...? Perhaps not only did he save people who would have become your victims but he saves YOU from ruining your life that way. It's not perfect. It doesn't take away the horrible things you did... but it is something. It is a choice YOU can make... so you better choose well.
Besides that? Man, I love the way he speaks aslkdjaskl It's pretty cool to see his odd patterns, which don't feel too odd most of the time, and can be quite illustrative to learn new words if you're not an english speaker heheheh. Also he's the type of person that one can vibe well easily, because he's smart and has a lot of ideas to share and that lifts your spirits!
I actually like the mystery behind his character. I like that it exists, that he kind of breaks rules all the time and it passes as just one of his quirks. But I also love that he's not just a backstory? So often I feel like characters are defined by their angst and past that you have to uncover like a mystery... that I feel like just getting someone that feels like a friend is super nice. There is no need to explain everything about him. He just is, and I think it's pretty great.
Of course don't let me stop you or anyone from theorizing. But it still feels nice to see someone being defined by their present actions rather than who they were in the past or what happened to them.
Ooooook i think that was most of it for now. If you got this far, thanks, if you didn't it's fine too. And if you wanna ask for another thing go ahead because i don't have enough words but i'm eager to share
#papyrus#analysis#warnings for possible broken english lol#geometric thoughts#also papyrus was number 12 so if you wanna choose another number from 1-15 feel free#undertale#fran rants

There’s always been a lot of mystery surrounding Sans as a character, from his secret science room to his dialogue in the Genocide route. I have collected as much evidence as I could surrounding Sanses character to try and figure this out, and I have came to a very interesting conclusion.
Sans is a reincarnation of one of the humans who fell before Frisk did. After examining much of Sanses dialogue, as well as dialogue from many other characters throughout the game, this is the conclusion I’ve came to.
Sans gave up on something at some point in the past, that he expects Frisk to give up on as well, we see this in his lost soul dialogue during the True Pacifist ending
Now the lost souls are all what the characters were at the beginning, before you helped to change them into better people, Toriel is overly protective, Papyrus wants to capture a human for popularity, Undyne hates humanity, Alphys doubts herself and Asgore feels it is his duty to collect the final soul, so then why does Sans say this? Doesn’t this imply that from the beginning Sans felt that there’s some inevitability down your path that you are going to need to give up on that he ALSO gave up on. He says something similar in the Genocide route
Sans tries to convince you to stop resetting over and over, and what does he say? “Take it from me, kid”. The definition of “Take it from me” According to the Cambridge dictionary is “accept that what I say is true, because I know or have experienced it”. So Sans has experienced something like this before? Wouldn’t that be implying that Sans has had the ability to save, load and reset at some point in time, and at some point he quit? We know from Toriel that when she sees a human fall to the underground, it’s almost as if she had met them before
Alright, so my guess with this is that: Sans fell into the ruins, but perhaps moved right through to Snowdin fairly quickly, possibly the reason he barely remembers Toriel, (that or he’s lying in his date to try to keep hiding the truth from Frisk until the moment Frisk finds his hidden room, however you want to try and explain it), but after a long journey through the underground, he reached Asgore, but couldn’t defeat him, trying again and again, loading, resetting, but in the end he gave up and his soul was taken.
How he was reincarnated would honestly just be pure speculation, perhaps linked to an experiment of Gasters or some other weird event that caused them to come back. What I can guess is that the “Don’t forget” photograph may be of Sanses possible human family, maybe Sans with a couple of friends/siblings/parents, or maybe not Sans at all and just 3 people that he knew and loved, signed “don’t forget” as a reminder of the life he had before this one. Again, this is mostly speculative and doesn’t have a large amount of evidence to back it up.
The big question is, what soul is he? Well the 2 big possibilities here are Patience and Justice. During some points in the Sans fight, his eyes flash 2 colors, a light blue (color of Patience) and a yellow (color of Justice). He is willing to wait for you to reach the judgement hall, and well he is fine to wait until the end of time at the end of the Sans fight, showing a lot of patience. He also judges you for the LOVE you gain in every route you take, and is willing to show shame and possibly even attack you for everyone you killed, showing that he does have a sense of Justice. So it could really be either, possibly neither.
TL;DR
Sans is the reincarnation of a previously fallen human who gave up trying to get home after dying to Asgore over and over again

I don't know if someone's already said this yet and I apologize if it HAS been said, but I thought of your Red SOUL/Golden SOUL theory while watching the Snowgrave route. When you save at some point, it says that Kris and Noelle were "filled with power". Didn't you say that the Red SOUL more represented POWER than DETERMINATION?
Here’s a lengthy analysis of power. I think even disregarding Gold SOUL theory its still a very important part of the UTDR lore.
Basically, Power is consistently referred to being in-universe property of the SOUL. (all souls, not just humans.)
So both humans and monsters have Power within their souls... and just what is power?
Let's look when Undyne the Undying is dying:
(later in her monologue)
Again, more emphasis on undyne having a power to live past death, then more connection of the human souls being powerful. This connection of Undyne having power is also shown outside the Undying fight.
Which again Hopes and Dreams being mentioned.... considering the Pacifist Asriel fight, you use your hopes and dreams to survive -aka using your determination to do so. Is this scene not literally just Undyne basically becoming determined like the save points descriptions? It’s worded basically the same!
When you’re inspired and filled with an emotion you gain power. Which makes sense!! Souls are the culmination of your entire being: they ARE emotions. That's literally what a soul is!
And one such emotion: Determination, is defined by the will of one's soul. Let's look at how how DT is defined by Alphys.
The will to change fate and defy death is what Determination is. Which is completely in line with what happens to Undyne the Undying, down to how she melts as her body doesn't have the physical matter to hold all the Determination within her.
The specific wording is that DT is THE power unleashed by the SOUL. Is this because the DT extractor is seeking out this specific power and thus is why Alphys is retrieving it specially? Are the other soul traits powers as well or is Determination just the true power?
The queen says it’s the determination of the user that opens the fountains. Ralsei talks of the power of the fountain and the song that plays when you close it is called “Your Power.” So it seems yet again power is defined to secretly being Determination. Perhaps the narrator just didn’t know how to define the word, and thus only describes the power- but most importantly still uses the wording power consistently again.
chapter 1
chapter 2
undertale
its pretty dang consistent.
So we know DT is a power, but is all power DT? The queen seems to imply it’s DT that is at work here -just how deep it runs is unclear.
With Chara, it’s your power -specifically your determination from your soul that awkwardness them. (which makes sense, as DT is the will to defy fate and reverse death)
Power is then described to be the rising numbers -all your stats and increase of LOVE. This defines Power itself to be more than just determination?
Personally....... I still think Determination is just a power.
considering asriel defines love as power, I don’t think power only determination. After all, determination isn’t the only thing that defines us as people! We’re filled with lots of emotions.
Perhaps the culmination of other emotions build up into determination -which in my red soul/determination analysis I talk about how both gameplay and the ball games reflect that you need to have the other 6 soul traits to achieve the state of the red soul. You need to literally be patient and brave ect. to beat the game, your soul turns to these colors and persist within this state to survive. It’s extremely literal! Maybe this is why Hopes and Dreams are connected to determination as well...? These emotions are all directly tied to each other and build off each other to create power. Thinking on this:
The way Love, Hope, and Compassion are all listed like this make me think they’re different powers of the soul.
In deltarune, there is similar wording to above. Notably it doesn’t describe what these wills of the soul are, funnily enough except for compassion. This is directly tying love, hope, compassion as wills of the soul, and therefore powers in itself.
Which again like, the other humans have determination. Undyne, who is not a human obviously, has determination. Anyone can have it. And obviously, we see love, hope compassion are also not unique to a single soul type. Are these wills separate from soul types? Will we find colors for these wills? I don’t know. Red is clearly tied to Love/Lv. Gold is tied to Determination. Hope is tied Light world while Dreams are tied to Dark world. (source: Ralsie’s prophecy)
Gah. I feel we’re getting more pieces of the puzzle but we’re still so far away from an answer. Hope and Dreams are distinctly connected to determination and the survival of a soul. IS determination a soul trait? Are any of these? I just don’t know. I keep running it in circles in my head and there’s no direct definition to go off.
this makes me insane. golden -which is determination, is linked with the souls here. and both chara and frisk are depicted with gold souls with the collector’s edition (visually at least. the locket and the sepia tones are not concrete literal evidence i know. regardless its not accidental imagery to use the gold color to color their souls with when its the same color as the their save ability.)
i just 🤔🤔🤔🤔🤔 good lord what does it all add up to. i need a break from theory stuff i’m at a literal standstill.

I'M DONE. HERE. TAKE THESE CHAPTER 2 THOUGHTS AND RUN, BABY.
so i'll try to go in order here. uhhhh... there's a LOT i have to say. first: toriel giggling sprite my beloved
on that note, ALL THE NEW SUSIE SPRITES MY BELOVEDS
NOELLE YOU'RE SO GAY. I THINK THIS IS PROBABLY JUST BECAUSE I TOLD HER TO IN CHAPTER ONE BUT SHE GAVE SUSIE THE LUNCHBOX FULL OF CHALK!! I LOVE ITTTT
ralsei's, uh... kinda sus. the whole "recruiting" thing REALLY sketches me out. and he looks kinda... smug, all the time, like he knows what's going on.
LANCER JOINED! ROUXLS JOINED EVEN THOUGH NO ONE WANTED THAT! STARWALKER JOINED, TO EVERYONE'S JOY!
LIBRARY PORTALLLL
so before i entered the city there was that pre-city area? that looked very much like the city? except it had different music? and i thought they'd cut welcome to the city and i was SEVERELY disappointed. but then they didn't! just something i wanted to mention
NOELLE!!
throughout this game i went from despising berdly to feeling bad for him to not really liking him again, but not hating him as much as before. he'd better stay the fuck away from susie though
the queen is the best villain. she's the kind you love to hate! she's literally so funny AND her boss battle is actually tough (rip to the king but he just. wasn't a formidable enemy at all lol)
THE GANG CHARLIE BROWN DANCING TO WIN A FIGHT! SUSIE GAINING THE POWER TO ACT THROUGH SHEER FORCE OF WILL! SUSIE FORCING RALSEI TO LEARN TO ACT EVEN THOUGH HE DIDN'T WANT TO! THAT ENTIRE BATTLE WAS AMAZING! THE "BATTLE WON" END DANCING SEQUENCE! GOING INSANE GOING INSANE
the puzzles in this chapter were genuinely really impressive! i especially loved the word search puzzles and the ice-ee undertale word search reference💙
that being said. the mouse puzzles were SO fucking infuriating. i caused poor noelle a LOT of grief with those and i feel bad.
SPEAKING OF NOELLE!! the scene where she and kris are walking through the puzzle, the one that spells "december", and she's talking about when they were kids, how she loved sneaking out? beautiful. the cinnamon tography <3 also i guessed dess's full name was december a while ago and while i guess it was obvious, it's nice to have that confirmed!
also, i love that susie and ralsei are real friends in this chapter! he taught her a healing spell!!
ugh. fucking berdly. so smug and pretentious. i love queen's desire to be as far away from him as possible though
i also like his backstory. it gives his behavior, even if it's still annoying, at least some context. i get the feeling of feeling like if you're not smart, people will forget about you, and that's scary.
ALSO ALSO. GAMER BERDLY. LITERALLY EVERYTHING ABOUT THAT IS PERFECT. "I THOUGHT YOU WERE A GAMER!" "i only play mobile games, berdly." "NOOOOOO!" like i ADORE that
anyways. time for me to talk about the only thing that matters in this world: suselle. i mean, did the gays win in this chapter or DID THE GAYS WIN IN THIS CHAPTER?? THEY RODE A HEART-COVERED FERRIS WHEEL AND HAD A HEARTFELT, TENSION-FILLED CONVERSATION!
"did you ever wonder why the real susie never picked on you? well, maybe it's because... when you were both new to class, you lent her one of your pencils, like... maybe a dumb one with candy canes on it or something, and... even though it didn't actually taste like candy, she... remembered your smile." okay god thanks toby it's not like i needed my heart or anything
SERIOUSLY. TOBY "i'm gonna give the gays everything they want" FOX IS BACK WITH ANOTHER BANGER LADS
QUEEN'S BOSS BATTLE! ACTUALLY TOUGH, UNLIKE KING'S! AND GIGA QUEEN! I'M GOING INSANE THAT WAS SO SICK AND SO HARD
the way my heart BROKE when lancer turned to stone good god thank GOD our boy's okay
AND ROUXLS KAARD IN HIS PIRATE DUCK!! WITH HIS LITTLE HAT! DEMANDING THE QUEEN MAKE HIM BUTLER SUPREMETH! I LOVE HIM MORE THAN LIFE ITSELF
also!! kris and ralsei's little moment on the swan boat💙 i wasn't a kralsei shipper before but uh... that may be starting to change
it's hard because ralsei's still suspicious but at the same time i love him and want him to be happy. i don't know how to feel
also, if darkners outside of their dark worlds turn to stone after a while, why didn't ralsei? that's, uhhh... VERY sus. very weird. mr fox i need ANSWERS
WE FINALLY HAVE A WAY TO SAVE AFTER WE'VE FINISHED MOST OF THE EPILOGUE LADS. REJOICE!!
seriously the thing that peeved me about ch1 was that the last save point was on the battle stage and if i wanted to play the epilogue again, i had to. do that entire battle all over. BUT NOW THAT'S BEEN FIXED!!
UNDYNE AND ALPHYS HAVE MET UNDYNE AND ALPHYS HAVE MET THIS IS NOT A DRILL UNDYNE GAVE HER A BOX OF CANDIES EVERYBODY SHUT UP THEY'RE IN LOVE ALL IS RIGHT WITH THE WORLD
ALSO! NEAR THE BEGINNING! I FORGOT TO MENTION THE LITTLE WHITE DOG DOING DONUTS IN A TOY RACE CAR AND BACKING UP TRAFFIC! THANK YOU LITTLE WHITE DOG!
on that note: "looks like a car. this one has a man in it. he waves at you happily." AND THEN THE MAN'S GONE??? HEY TOBY???
ALSO. THE SEGMENT WHERE THE ANNOYING DOG HELPS US FIND THE KEY THROUGH THE POWER OF WANTON DESTRUCTION. THE BEST PLOT DEVICE!
TORIEL TEACHING SUSIE TO MAKE PIE STOP ITTTTT
and yes yes i KNOW kris slashed toriel's tires. that was extremely troubling. but THEY MADE PIE TOGETHER!!
"leave the chalk alone, kris" TORIEL!!
sans and toriel making egg puns and asgore running in and going "don't forget me, your eggs-husband!" is the FUNNIEST sitcom moment type thing ever. GOD.
on the other hand sans let me meet your brother god dammit i'll kill you
METTATONNNNNNN
RUDY... "who got you these flowers?" "is it weird for a married man to get flowers?" "so your wife did?" "oh, no! kris's dad did!" "...not even gonna try to understand this..." TOBY STOP ITTTT YOU'RE GIVING THE ASGORUDY SHIPPERS FALSE HOPE. YOU KNOW YOU'RE JUST GONNA KILL RUDY. YOU'RE JUST RUBBING SALT IN THE WOUND!
NUBERT! MY MAN!
seeing kris repeatedly they-themmed by multiple characters makes me so happy <3 poor kid... "college summer vacation when" "you opened the door with your eyes closed. you saw nothing" kris....
KRIS...
fucking. BLACK FOG STORM IN THE LIVING ROOM KRIS STOP IT. HOW'RE THEY GONNA REVEAL THIS WAS INNOCENT? THE KNIFE IN CHAPTER ONE WAS EASY BUT HOW WILL THEY EXPLAIN THIS
the staticy tv appearing in the dark and a toothy smile slowly fading into view in the center and lingering there ominously for far too long >>>>>>> every hollywood horror movie ever god. GOD
snowy and monster kid checking out the red door. implying there's something in there. something that kris knows about. knowing we won't get any more deltarune content for 5+ years does NOT fill me with determination
also. gaster's symbolic theme being mus_smile. and the final image in the game being a smile. god. gaster's COMING lads.
onionsan hears a song at night... a familiar song... memory, perhaps? or maybe a certain... four-note arpeggio that's hidden in a sound test room in undertale? who knows? guess we'll just have to wait for chapters 3/4/5.
this concludes my ramblings for now, but don't get it twisted- this is FAR from the last post i'll make about ch2. this whole chapter was absolutely amazing! brilliant! showstopping!! i'm genuinely soooo super impressed and excited for the chapter 3/4/5 bundle!!!

AuraFell InfoDump
Hello! As some of you may already know, I have created my own AU called AuraFell! It doesn't have any Tale/Swap/Swapfell/etc counterparts yet, so this is completely new!
I'm going to dump everything I have to start with this AU below the cut. If you want to wrote or draw this AU please ask, it's still in New AU stages so I want it to be done right! But I'm very easygoing and I would love for more content to me made so don't be afraid (:
More info below the cut, it's a mess of about 7k words so bear with me!
AuraFell:
Let's start with the magic system. Most monsters have the same type of magic as regular AUs, nothing special. If they have an aura, it's weak or hard to use.
Boss Monsters, though, have Auras that are strong and super effective.
Boss monsters in this AU (that ive developed) are:
-Papyrus (Mockingbird)
-Sans (Terror)
-Asgore (Dad)
-Toriel (Auntie)
-Undyne (Shrill)
-Alphys (Professor)
-Mettaton (Signal)
-Grillby (Ozone)
-Frisk (Kiddo)
And the deceased ones with powers thus far:
-Gaster (Doctor...deceased)
-Asriel (Giver...deceased...?)
-Chara (Pal....deceased)
Nicknames! So nicknames are actually given to Boss monsters by the ones their aura effects. They all for some reason call them that name.
Aura powers fall under two categories, with subcategories. If your aura is in the same category, you're resistant to the other's power. If you have the same category AND subcategory, you're immune.
Ambient Auras: These are Auras that are area of effect, sort of. They are focused in one way or another but generally present at all times.
-Visual: This means the Ambient Aura is focused with a visual effect (flashing colors, a friendly smile, the written word)
-Audial: This means the Ambient Aura is focused with sound (humming, singing, spoken word)
Given Aura: This aura type must be administered physically somehow. It is not ever-present but can be "stowed" or "kept". The effect is imbued to an object or physically given somehow.
-Present: This means the Given Effect must be given through an item (a baked good laced with the effect, a gift, etc)
-Physical: This means the given effect must be administered through physical contact (a bite, a kiss, skin to skin contact)
Let's start with the skeleton Brothers' powers
Papyrus, AKA Mockingbird
-His Aura is called Lullaby. He makes people fall asleep. He usually does this by humming or singing. It can effect one person immediately or multiple with a delay.
-His favorite lullaby to hum is "Hush little baby" (you know. The one where Mama is gonna buy you a Mockingbird...) and perhaps that's why everyone calls him Mockingbird
-He used to think he had no powers because he didn't know how to focus it, and his Category/Subcategory is the same as Sans AND Undyne (whom he spent the most time with) so neither were ever affected
- Category/Sub is Ambient (Audial)
Sans (Terror)
-His aura is called Modify Memory, but nobody knows that. He can speak to a sleeping person and influence their dreams, or speak a story to an woken person and they will legitimately remember that it happened that way. Again, it's most effective when focused on one person, and the details fuzz or change if he tries to stretch it to more people
-He pretends to be affected by Mock's lullaby. He's incredibly fast, agile, and strong, and he pretends he's only a good fighter when he's unconscious. This way nobody will risk a surprise knockout and they'll cooperate with him when Mock threatens to put him to sleep. He modifies people's memories so they will spread by word of mouth that the unconscious fighting is his power, not modify memory
-Category/Sub: Ambient (Audial)
Speed run through the others:
-Toriel (Auntie) makes pies or any baked good that are more addictive than any drug. Category/sub: Given (Present)
-Asgore (Dad) has Big Dad Energy and everyone wants to impress him, to an extreme. He's so strong he affects most of the Underground without knowing it, and to his horror most of the Underground seems to think that murdering others and getting stronger is the way to impress him. He focuses with spoken word but it's mostly unnecessary at this point. Ambient (Audial)
-Grillby (Ozone). Hypnosis. Pretty flame colors. Leaves his victims open to suggestion. Ambient (Visual)
-Muffet (? Nickname tbd) makes a paralyzing poison. She has figured out how to put it in her pastries but it's best delivered by bite. Given (Physical)
-Undyne (Shrill) has the command power. People follow a command from her. Longer instructions if focused on one, one simple instruction if aimed at multiples. Ambient (Audial)
-Alphys (Professor). People take whatever she says as fact as long as it's written in her handwriting. Ambient (Visual)
-Mettaton (Signal). His TV programs are brainwashing propaganda. He can convince people to buy or sell anything if they are watching him through a screen. Ambient (Visual)
-Frisk (Kiddo) radiates friendship with a smile. Ambient (visual)
-Gaster (Doctor) used to be able to say anything and people would believe him. Ambient (Audial)
-Chara (Pal) was able to convince anyone to be friendly to them no matter what they'd done. Ambient (Audial)
-Asriel (Giver) could give you a rock and you'd well up with grateful feelings. Given (Present)
So
yeah that's the basics, that's the big peeps in that world. Basically it isn't really Asgore's fault the place is so fucked up he's just very old and powerful and the violence is mostly people trying to impress him (poorly).
Gaster is Terror and Mock's Dad but he died when they were young, 8 and barely 2. He died trying to save Asriel and Chara when he accidentally dropped a barrier-breaking theory that Asriel then took as fact because of Gaster's aura.
Toriel moved almost immediately after the children's deaths, and Asgore did his best to raise Terror and Mock until Terror was old enough to take Mock to live in their house in Snowdin (about 14 and 8 years old)
Snowdin is a really bad place now though bc Toriel (Auntie) has been giving away her pies at the ruins gates, and people are killing and hurting each other for enough G or whatever they think she wants to get the next fix. She's kinda lost it at this point, she keeps feeding them out of some twisted need to be needed
Terror was old enough and smart enough to know "yeah, let's not eat that". They're immune to Asgore's power bc they are the same types, but they still want to impress him the normal kid-wants-to-impress-dad amount so they never tell him when they need more support out of some sense of pride.
Mock was a bit of a runt well into teenage years. His magic was very slow to grow. He got picked on a lot, kids stole his lunch money and roughed him up and such. He would hum his favorite lullabies to himself to calm his anxiety, and wouldn't you know it, but one day it put everyone to sleep!
So sometimes he doesn't even realize he's humming, he does it to calm his nerves, he a nervous bean, but he also knows from the one time someone injured his socket that earplugs are good enough to slow his effects
He also learns pretty quickly that junkies don't sleep for long and they are way stronger than he anticipated so, he racks up some of his LV for stuff like that.
He also likes tea because his powers depend on him being able to hum/sing

🌟 Capricious Suns’s Declassified AU+ Survival Guide 🌟
My AUs
Vesselfell - A Papyrus-centric Underfell AU revolving around the curious case of W.D. Gaster’s most successful experiment - The Vessel. Papyrus becomes a vessel for a doorway into the void, which gradually begins causing problems for not just their timeline, but the multiverse as a whole.
There are currently three primary iterations of the main story; Canon, The Good Ending, and The Variable.
Heartfell - A lovecore inspired Underfell AU where the world may not be as lovely as it seems. Exploring many facets of love and it’s perception and how sometimes what we believe is love is actually just trauma.
Orangefell - A semi-skeleton brothers-centric Underfell AU that revolves around how different things may be if the brothers had taken a different path.
Invertedfell - An Underfell AU where the characters personalities (and primary color schemes) are inverted. This is not a swapped AU as the changes are personal to each individual character.
Neonfell - An Underfell AU with slight cyberpunk stylings. After the fallen human and Alphys mysteriously disappear before the human had completed their journey to King Asgore, the underground falls into a state of chaos, eventually breaking apart into two sides - the loyalists and the rebellion. Will they ever learn the truth? Will they ever be free? Or will they drive themselves to extinction before they get the chance?
Demonfell - An Underfell AU where the monsters are all different types of demons. There isn’t much of a plot so much as a world to explore with honestly, I just liked the concept and ran with it, though I may develop a more solid story one day…
Glitchedswap - An Underswap AU that takes place in a “glitched game”. The monsters are mostly unknowingly permanently trapped Underground, and try to make the best of their abysmal circumstances.
Sweetswap - An Underswap AU similar to Heartfell in that it’s aesthetics are shifted, only to more cute, soft, and sweet stylings (cutecore, if you will), while exploring the many pros and cons of a sometimes perhaps too optimistic outlook on life.
Psychictale(fell?) - A Psychonauts inspired AU where Frisk must help the monsters address their inner demons to reach the truth of not just the underground, but the very monsters themselves.
Undersell - Underfell, but with a comedic twist. The underground is a grungy city type place, and everyone’s got an angle. It’s up to Frisk and Flowey to guide them back to a better way of life. (generally more lighthearted in tone)
AUs I have my own interpretation of
Swapfell (Metal) • Fellswap (Glass) • Swapfell (Red) • Mafiafell • Mafiaswap • Horrorfell • Horrorswap • Lovefell (previously Lustfell ) • MafiaLoveFell (previously MafiaLustFell)
AUs I need to work more on
Mafiatale • Horrortale • Outertale • Outerfell • Outerswap
Stories and Ideas
Glasses - Papyrus needs glasses. It really shouldn’t be this complicated.
7S - A monster and a human with good intentions form a plan that leads them on an unexpectedly difficult journey in an attempt to save monsterkind before losing themselves (and each other).
Tales of Divergence - A choose your own adventure type story about a collision within the multiverse that brings four neighboring timelines…together?
My Mother’s Eyes - An Underfell story about a strange accident that leads to Toriel raising Papyrus in the Ruins for most of his life.
Everything Stays - When a malfunction happens at the labs, Sans disappears without a trace. Alphys has to take the news to his family, only to find all that’s left is his kid brother. She doesn’t have much of a choice but to look after this increasingly strange child herself, with the eventual help of Undyne. They become quite the odd little family…but Papyrus never gives up hope of seeing his brother again. He knows it’s just a matter of time…
Asymmetrical - Accidents happen. But how could Gaster have anticipated this..?
A possible “full” Psychonauts Undertale crossover where Raz wakes up in a very very strange place with little memory of how he got there… (may attempt a comic of it some day)

So I know this happened a while ago but I really want to know. So do you remember snowtown inn the shorby short story? Well I have always wondered what was going through grillbys mind while shore was lost and when they found her.
HI sorry this took a bit, I got hit with that post vaccine fever and it completely knocked me on my butt for a few days. For those who haven’t read it, on my ao3 there’s a short called Snowstorm Inn that you can check out. I would link it here but tumblr has deemed all links Evil and Rude
Short answer: Panic
Long answer:
Grillby doesn’t doubt your abilities. Truly, he doesn’t. However, whether through some cruel joke of the universe or sheer bad luck, accidents are unfortunate, but rather common occurrence when it comes to you.
If he’s being honest, your alarming lack of self-preservation is also probably to blame. That and your ravenous need for…excitement? Adrenaline? He’s not quite sure what exactly it is that drives that gleam you get in your eyes. It’s part of the reason he was so drawn to you in the first place but by the Angel does it drive him mad sometimes.
He wasn’t surprised that you decided to stay out on the mountain for a few more runs when he called it quits. The growing cold and snowfall had gone from a mild inconvenience to a steadily painful prick against his exposed body but that doesn’t seem to bother you (though your red nose and sniffles said otherwise). But aside from the hilarious and thankfully harmless tumble and a few bruises, you seemed to have enough of a handle on skiing that he felt only a small bit of trepidation about leaving you on the mountain.
But that’s par for the course with him.
So, he’d tucked his scarf around your neck, quietly hid the flutter in his Soul at the sight of you snuggling against his residual warmth and headed back to the lodge with a small knot of anxiety in his chest.
It’s nearly dark now. What’s left of the setting sun is utterly hidden behind the predicted storm that blew in with terrifying speed and intensity.
And you’re not back.
Grillby is sat in a chair near the large window, foot tapping against the ground. A mug of cider is forgotten on the table next to him. His phone rests in his hand, more of a useless thing for him to fiddle with for all the good it’s doing. He’d tried calling you but it had gone straight to voicemail. Stupid, useless thing. He thought these things were bad enough in the underground, with spotty connections and dropped calls but out here, you get one bloody mountain in the way-
The sudden ring and vibration in his hand just about ejects his Soul from his chest with the force of his jump. Flickering harsh reds, Grillby fumbles for the answer button, not bothering to even look at who’s calling him. “Shore?”
The voice that answers him is decidedly not Shore, and Grillby’s Soul plummets into his gut. “Um, it’s me,” Undyne says. It’s hard to hear her, there’s a harsh whistling that probably means she’s still out in the snow.
“What’s happened?” The words are tight and Grillby is already getting to his feet, turning to head back to the lodge exit.
What Undyne says next stops him dead in his tracks.
“Shore’s missing.”
“What do you mean missing?”
Frisk, Sans, Toriel, Asgore and Alphys all look up from their card game, alarm clear on their faces at his words. He ignores them.
“Exactly that!” Undyne snaps. She takes a breath, the sound crackling in his ear. “Paps and I got the bottom of the mountain and she didn’t show up. We waited and waited and tried to go back up but they’d shut the lifts down and the storm started and I can’t see anything with all this stupid snow-!”
Grillby’s started walking again without realizing it. “I’m on my way.”
“No, you can’t come out in this.” Undyne’s voice is sharp, the voice of a captain. “This isn’t like the storms in Snowdin.”
“You think I care about that?” he snarls. “Shore might be hurt!”
“You’re only going to get yourself hurt out here, okay? Look, the resort people are getting mobiles and a search team together. They’re trained for this. Paps and I are going with them, but you need to stay at the lodge, let the others know.”
“I’m not-”
“Stay. Inside.” Undyne hangs up on him.
Stay inside? Not a chance in hell.
A hand on his arm stops him with surprising strength. Sans, phone in his other hand, shakes his head. His usual smile is grimly thin. “grillbz, it’s seriously bad out there.”
“Is that supposed to convince me to just stay here?” Grillby pulls him arm away. All it takes is a blink and Sans is standing in front of the door that leads outside.
“no, i’d hope your own common sense would do that. shore’s the one who’s supposed to-”
“Do not finish that sentence.”
Sans doesn’t flinch under the surge of heat as Grillby struggles with the urge to simply shove the skeleton aside. But his eyes flick to the window where now the snow is falling so heavily the mountain itself is completely obstructed.
“Grillby.” Asgore’s heavy paw lands on his shoulder, making him flinch. “I’m s- absolutely certain that Shore is just fine. I just spoke to the resort staff and they’ve already sent out a team to go up the mountain.”
“And that’s assuming that Undyne and Papyrus don’t find her first.” The queen, with practiced calm, gives Frisk’s hand a reassuring squeeze. “She would not want you hurting yourself looking for her. She’s capable and I know that she is just fine. Come sit down and we’ll all wait here.”
It kills him. It absolutely kills him. But they’re right.
So he sits.
And he waits.
~~~
It takes an eternity. Every time the door opens, Grillby gets to his feet, only for disappointment to sink his flames low. Undyne is forced to come inside, her body simply giving out at the plummeting temperatures. Grillby actually has to be held back at that point, only the fear of burning Asgore stopping him from forcing his way outside. You’re human, you’re warm-blooded so at least your body will last longer but gods he’s terrified. He can’t stop picturing you curled in the snow, frozen, hurt, hunted by any number of the creatures that live out in the deep forests of the mountains.
By the time you’re found, a small crowd has gathered in the lobby of resort. Staff, guests, people who are drawn in the by excitement of a missing person.
Then, shouts. A commotion. Grillby had long ago given up on sitting and he runs to meet the crew that bursts in through the doors, bringing with it a terrible wave of cold and snow that makes his flames gutter.
His fire sinks even lower when he sees you. Your skin is blue. Your lips are color of a horrendous bruised purple, bits of ice and snow clinging to your eyelashes. They’re flickering weakly but it’s the only movement from you at all.
He shoves closer, let him through, he needs to get to you!
One of the rescue team sees him, eyes widening for a moment before tightening with resolve. “Come with me, this way.”
He follows, his Soul wailing silently in his chest at the distance that still remains between you as the rescue team carries you into a side room, shutting the door firmly behind him.
You’ve started to shiver, soft gasps leaving your purpled lips. The humans are peeling off your layers, exposing your skin, what are they doing?
“Can you control your temperature fully?”
He blinks. It takes him a moment to even process that one of the humans is addressing him. He would almost be insulted if he wasn’t nearly out of his mind with panic. “Yes.”
“Come over here, quickly.” The human gestures to Shore, now laid nearly bare save for undergarments but that is quickly covered up by a some kind of shiny silver blanket. “You need to warm her up.”
“Go slow; too fast can trigger shock.”
It’s a true testament of strength that he is able to cool himself at all, when every instinct screams at him to flush himself hotter, warmer, until your skin returns to the soft warm tones he knows so intimately.
He can’t stop the pained gasp that escapes him when he feels how utterly cold you are. Like a stone, like metal in the ice.
Like the dead.
He wraps his arms around you, sinking down to the ground so he can pull you into his lap. His fire crackles reassuringly, tongues of flame creeping slowly over your skin in the thinnest layer he can manage. Come on, come on.
You stir. He nearly sobs.
With the softest of groans, you turn your face into the hand he has placed against your frozen cheek. Melting ice, or maybe tears run slowly from your eyes and sizzle against his fingers.
“I’ve got you, I’ve got you,” he murmurs.
Now that your eyes are free of ice, your eyelids fight to open. A soft and wobbling smile comes to your face. “’m okay,” you croak, as if you weren’t lying nearly frozen to death in his arms.
Grillby’s core shudders. “Yes,” he breathes. You are now.
He’s going to make sure of it.
“I’m cold.”
“I know sweetheart. I have to warm you up slowly.”
“That’s dumb.”
Dear Angel. That light hearted and slightly annoyed tone is so completely you that he can’t help a small snort that perhaps lets loose more of the emotion in his chest. “Yes, yes it is.”
“Can I sleep?”
He glances to one of the other humans. “Is that okay?”
They nod and so he runs a thumb over your face and whispers, “ Yes. You can sleep now. I’ll keep you warm.”
The smile you give him makes his flames quiver and as your eyes close and you slip off to sleep, he hunches over to hide his face in your hair and shakes and shakes and does what he does best.
He keeps you warm.
