uncle gaster??? i dontbthink ive heard of this au, or ive been in hiatus for too long

I've only mentioned the idea once, but it has been living rent-free in my head for a long time. Prepare for a ramble.

Gaster is distanced from his family and has thrown himself into his work at the Lab. He isn’t happy, but at least he’s content with the way things are, and has no interest in changing things. Even when he hears that his older sister, Dana (full name Verdana) has fallen down, he hardly reacts.

A few days/weeks? later, Gaster hears a knock on the door. It’s Sans (9) and Papyrus (4). Apparently Dana wanted Gaster to take care of her sons when she passed away. Is Was she crazy? Gaster doesn’t know how to take care of a couple of kids, and he doesn’t want to, especially a couple of kids that look so much like his dead siblings. He moved to Snowdin to get away from those feelings of guilt, regret, anger and grief. These boys aren’t exactly helping in that respect.

Sans isn’t enthusiastic either. His mom died, so now he has to uproot his entire life, move away from all of his friends, etc and move to Snowdin to live with this grouch. And so. Many. Rules. Is this because of his 1 hp? Ugh, he hates being restricted just because he’s a bit more fragile than most monsters are. As a result, he gets a little rebellious, which leads to even greater friction between Sans and Gaster.

Papyrus is more okay with this turn of events since he’s young, but he’s adjusting too. Being in a new place is scary, and it doesn’t really sink in that he’s never going to see his mother again until he has a nightmare and she… isn’t there? She isn’t there to help him get back to sleep or to tell him that everything is all right, and that really puts a damper on his optimism. Also, Sir Snuggles is canon in this universe. I’m considering giving him a cameo in all of my universes because I grew attached to him (I'm a sucker for stuffed animals), but Papyrus tends to wander off and he gets lost at some point in the story, so Sir Snuggles is a clue to where he went.

Eventually they start to become a family. Sans opens up to Gaster about some of his doubts and fears, and Gaster comforts him because hey, he had the same fears when he was young too. And Papyrus is a little ray of sunshine that Gaster can’t help but get attached to. Their similarities to his siblings starts to become a blessing rather than a curse. Uncle Gaster has a lot of similarities to Ebenezer Scrooge, I’m realizing.

There is a lot more to this AU, but that's the basic premise. I'm willing to answer more questions and do some more doodles, but I already feel like I overloaded this post a bit, sorry. Of course, I can't help but overshare, so I'll provide a few more fun facts under the cut.

Dana's passing was not a surprise. She was sick for two years before she fell down. She actually went all the way to Snowdin when she was diagnosed in hopes of mending broken relationships with her brother. He wasn’t around, but luckily it wasn’t a complete waste of time…

Undertale Sans - He's giggling the whole time, not regretting anything for even one second. He accepts the punishment as you're obviously encouraging him to nap. He lets you deal with Papyrus once he gets home to explain to him why he's sleeping instead of doing the dishes.

Undertale Papyrus - He's pouting in his burrito. You're ruining his routine and he's mad. Now he's late and he's going to have to do things twice as fast to recover. Please let him go, he's begging you! That's not funny, how did you even manage to make it impossible to escape? It's a blanket, not one of his elaborate traps!

Underswap Sans - He's struggling, growling, and rolling on the ground in his burrito, trying to free himself. It was funny for the first two minutes, but now he's losing his mind because he hates staying still for more than two minutes. You're laughing at his misery but do nothing to free him.

Underswap Papyrus - That's fine. He gives you the sad pathetic puppy eyes and waits for you to break down. Eventually, it works, only for him to betray you by immediately lunging at you to give you a taste of your own medicine. Now you're the one stuck in the burrito, and unlike you, Honey is very patient and not too much in a hurry to free you.

Underfell Sans - He makes annoying noises with his mouth to piss you off, smiling like a shark in his ridiculous blanket burrito. He's never going to stop. You can try to flee, he's going to teleport right behind you to continue to annoy you. You better let him go fast or he's going to do it even louder.

Underfell Papyrus - You want to annoy him? Good, he can do that too. Edge is screaming. Just screaming. Nonstop. Very loudly. He's going to ruin your day, and won't hesitate to puncture your eardrums if you dare to ignore him. Think of the neighbors, they're definitely going to call the police on you if you don't do something. Edge knows he has already won. You just don't know it yet.

Horrortale Sans - He whines. Not too loudly, but just enough to be annoying. If it doesn't work, he just falls silent, staring at you with sad begging eyes. He can even cry to make you feel bad. As soon as you free him though, he switches back to normal mode, like nothing happened, and you understand he manipulated you, fake crying and everything. He has no regret.

Horrortale Papyrus - He knows really well he can escape your death burrito thanks to his back problem so he teases his brother when he is stuck inside one. You swear they're children sometimes.

Swapfell Sans - Well that's fair. He accepts his defeat. You win this fight for now. But not the war. As soon as he's free, he goes back to his room, throws a blanket from the stairs and your pillow, and locks the door. You're sleeping on the couch tonight as he's pouting all night like a child.

Swapfell Papyrus - Oh come on! That's not funny. He's trading his freedom against date ideas. Don't you want to go to Disneyland? He can take you to Disneyland! Or to the mountain! Or to the dump if you want! Please let him out of this horrible prison!

Fellswap Gold Sans - He's displeased. How dare you put the mighty and terrible general of the royal guard in such a humiliating position. He keeps taunting you, asking you to fight him like a real warrior instead of hiding like a coward in the kitchen. You think he can't see you? And he swears if you take one more photo he's going to get really mad and you really are not going to like what's next! You challenged him to come at you. He gives you a death stare, so angry, as he desperately tries to free himself. You better find a way out of this country before he manages to find a way out of this.

Fellswap Gold Papyrus - Oh well. Since he can't move and that he's comfortable, why struggle against it? Coffee simply falls asleep there. His brother passes by and says he can't believe he got caught this easily. If it was him, it would have never happened. Clearly, he's W E A K. He doesn't see you standing right behind him with a second blanket. Wine doesn't know it yet, but he's already a blanket burrito.

Confessing headcanons UT,UF,US!

This is not my favorite so far. Oh well though my internets spotty and I wanted to get something out while I know I have some. Reds is by far my favorite I love him sm. As always hope you enjoy!

Undertale:

Sans: It'd have to be you confessing. Sans has his insecurities and doubts and they would hold him back from confessing. He might make hints more known like more flirty jokes than normal and he's a bit more protective of you but he won't outright confess when crushing. If he does it's accidental and happens because he got too comfortable. He probably whispered it or said it too quite to hear all the way and you have to ask him to repeat himself. Que a joke while sweating.

If confessed to: He's a little shocked, are you…sure? He doesn't know what to say all jokes he's ever learned slip out the holes in his skull lost to the void. You probably have to break the silence by repeating yourself or assuring him you mean it and he tears up slightly. He never expected you'd actually like him back he's a little overwhelmed just let him ride it out and you can cuddle and kiss his tears away afterwards.

Papyrus: Very likely to confess first. He's a straightforward man he knows he's got feelings he's gonna share them! He plans it all out and definitely looks up a wikiHow or some other manual on the perfect date just because it helps him feel better prepared. He'd wait till a lull in the activities to confess maybe after dinner or after a movie. He's nervously waiting for your response but he's just happy he finally let you know how much he truly cares for you.

If confessed to: He's overjoyed!! He'll reciprocate and give you a big hug maybe a smooch on the cheek. He basically sweeps you away and says you have to celebrate with a date. He definitely takes a picture to celebrate this man scrapbooks.

Underfell:

Red: This dude confessing? Yeah right he believes he has absolutely zero chance with anyone and feels like that would be setting himself up for the ultimate failure. He's happy to live with his delusions and daydreams thank you very much. That doesn't stop accidents from happening and he might have said something a little too sweet about you. Something about how much he loves your laugh or something about your smile or eyes. He's sweating hoping you didn't catch it. He might even teleport out if your reaction is big enough.

If being confessed to: He's actually a little angry and defensive at first. He thinks you're playing a prank on him he doesn't understand. Out of everyone why him he's a piece of shit, pervert, couldn't raise his brother right, can't do anything right… He starts spiraling. Reassure him maybe with some light physical touch it'll help ground him. He'll calm down and play it off but keep showing you're interested and he'll come around.

Edge: Hes pretty straightforward with it all. He thinks that's the best way to get it done. He invites you over for a home cooked meal because why settle for less than the best when he's trying to impress someone. Not that he should have to try to impress you he naturally does he reminds himself to ease his anxiety. He's definitely not extremely anxious over this whole thing. He presents the meal to you and takes compliments in pride they also help soothe this anxiety. Once the meals over he'll confess offering you your favorite flowers. He's blushing a carmine red and is struggling to maintain eye contact.

If confessed to: Takes it in stride. Of course you would have affections for someone as great and terrible as him. He's blushing and screaming internally but don't point out the blush or he'll deny it and sweep you away. He declares since you're in a relationship it's important you stay by his side so other monsters know not to mess with you. He likes feeling like he's protecting you even if it's just being in your company.

Underswap:

Stretch:He's worked himself up for this hella. He's a little nervous because if he's actually into you it's a whole nother ballpark. He's a bit of a flirt that's for sure but he's not used to anything besides flirting and lustful glances and stuff romance is something else entirely. He sets up a cute scenario maybe finds a way to play you his guitar because he's a dork and he'll stutter a bit while confessing.

If being confessed to: Is super happy and sweeps you into a hug. This takes the pressure off of him to do it and he's honestly flattered someone would confess to him. Impressed you had the balls to do what he was struggling with. He wants to celebrate with a game night at his house and he excitedly tells his brother what happened that night.

Blue: He's got it all planned out. He asks you on a date he'll know you'll be most comfortable on and actually enjoy. Dresses up slightly and gets you one of your favorite flowers. The date goes smoothly and he confesses at the end when taking you home after telling you he had a goodnight. He hopes you'll accept and if you do you get a cheek kiss and a very happy Blue. He definitely blogs about it later on

If being confessed to: He's impressed you beat him to he, he's quick with it once he realizes you return his affections. He happily accepts and smooches your cheek while pulling you into a hug. A sleepover is a must and he invites you back home so he can cook dinner and you guys can have an at home date.

Papyrus is so weird in comparison to the rest of the cast, like a prominent theme of Undertale is how the past can hold people back and the necessity of accepting it and understanding that it should not define your present and leave you stagnant.

Toriel and her inability to protect Asriel and the children who pass through her doors, Sans and his mysterious past that he can never return to, Undyne and the pain of monsters and the monster history that she embodies more than any other character, Alphys and the determination experiments that haunt her, Mettaton and his past identity that he runs away from, Asgore and the choices he made in grief, and most importantly, Flowey/Asriel and the self he can never really go back to.

Papyrus is literally the ONLY main cast member with no relationship to the past that is holding him back in some way. Like, all of the main issues this guy faces within the narrative (his popularity and not being a member of the Royal Guard) are all issues relating to his present state, and theres no real sense that they cause him to stagnate. He's written in such a vastly different way than every other character, down to him being the only character that literally cannot kill you (the game crashes if you do). Truly insane individual.

extremely well said. although, i think he fits more with the rest of the cast if you parse undertale's story as one about self imposed narratives, as well as past mistakes as a cause of stagnation.

toriel denounced all monsterkind as violent opportunists and forced herself to suffer isolation and grief, alone, as a sense of failed duty towards asriel.

undyne did likewise, denouncing humans rather than monsters as unredeamable murderers and turning herself into a hero. she handles all of the waterfall area alone, she strengthens her resolve thinking about how much people count on her, and never confesses her feelings to alphys because she doesn't want to burden her with them in case she dies in battle

asgore and alphys, their own parallels as well, are both haunted by their past mistakes and have convinced themselves that living a lie is better than facing the truth of the damage you caused

sans lost his home and friends and is aware of the anomaly: this caused him to take up a "play the cards i'm given" attitude where he passively rolls with every punch that the current timeline throws at him, without letting himself strive for anything more than what small solace he has.

mettaton is also haunted (lol) by his past. he's also decided that, in order for his dreams to be achieved, he HAS to sacrifice the personal connections he holds dear, and that that sacrifice is one he is willing to make (first napstablook, then alphys, then the entire underground when he gains a chance to go to the surface for himself)

papyrus... well, like you said, he distinctly lacks the element of the Past to drag him back from personal development, but like the rest of the cast he DOES have the accompanying self imposed narrative with the same effect. papyrus is lonely! but he's also come to the conclusion that what would fill that loneliness is fame and a vague notion of "popularity". this leads him to not realize the value of his friendship with undyne and keep other people at arms' lenght.

still, i agree with you. his lacking a character defining past (especially in light of how much his brother's still clearly affects him) is a very peculiar writing choice. it's one of the main reasons why i think he's some kind of amnesiac

This AU is just called Bad Dads AU, nothing fancy but its essentially a multiverse where Berry never aged to an adult as a genocide happened far before Chara fell and Core Frisk to the OT and the MTT just yoinked him

🥕 Berry is from an Underswap timeline that was doomed from the start. A human fell down before Chara would and did an all complete genocide route minus Berry himself.

🥕 Core Frisk then took Berry to the Omega timeline. Berry was around 4 at this time.

🥕 Months later after Berry turned 5, the Murder Time Trio appeared needing some healing help after a mission. Dust spotted Berry and since he had never seen a kid Sans like this, he asked Core Frisk what his deal was.

🥕 Dust, who shockingly was good with kids, had Berry hang out with the three until they were properly healed. Berry seemed to like Dust so Core Frisk allowed it.

🥕 What Core Frisk didn't allow or expect was the three to kidnap him and bring him back to Nightmare's castle. Their motive was solely because they had their own troubled up bringing, they resonated with Berry and knew no one could understand him besides them most likely.

🥕 Despite this belief, Berry does not remember anything but knew he had an older brother but doesn't even remember his name.

🥕 Nightmare was unaware of Berry's existence for a whole two weeks, assuming the boys just bought a dog until one morning he walked in on Berry eating cereal in the living space.

He reluctantly agreed to keeping Berry there

🥕 Overtime Berry met Error who became his 5th honorary dad due to Nightmare's relationship with Error.

🥕 Saejun would become his 6th honorary dad once Murder Time Trio takes him to Farmtale the first time.

🥕 Cross becomes more like a older brother to Berry over time and is why Berry likes tacos. In turn this would make Epic family as well to him

Family Dynamics

🥕 Nightmare and him have an odd relationship. Think of it like how a dad says they hate the family dog but spoils them. He says he could care less about Berry but spoils him and puts him before the boys. He also reads to Berry a lot and helps him with schooling.

🥕 Error doesn't like kids due to canonically not liking intense emotions such as crying but over time has gotten use to Berry. Also their love of sweets and space sort of helped Error find a way to make him not as upset.

🥕 Killer and Dust are pretty one in the same as Killer isn't to be trusted around Berry due to being a dumbass with knives and Nightmare doesn't want him to accidentally do something stupid on top of how Killers stages can be. Due to this, Dust and Killer are usually with him at the same time and usually watch TV with him and let him watch them fight one another. They also are bad influences on him.

🥕 Horror isn't that keen on kids like Error but that is because I love big Horror so he's more scared he's gonna pull a Mice of Men and accidentally hurt Berry. They do cook together from time to time, mainly just Berry watching. Berry also uses Horror to threaten those he doesn't like LOL

🥕 Cross is like a older brother to Berry, often getting him not to do stupid stuff Killer and Dust try and get him to do. They mainly just chill and Cross is like those two but not as chaotic.

🥕 Epic is just that cool annoying uncle to him, nothing more nothing less

🥕 Fresh is also this but Berry likes Fresh more

🥕 Dream is also like an Aunt to Berry (I love you trans fem dream) and hangs out with Berry if things at Nightmare's gets too chaotic and Nightmare needs at least one kid out of his tendrils. Berry is honestly the reason these two can even be in a room together mainly on Nightmares end since he wants Berry to be better than them. Berry likes Dream's positivity powers though and I like to think she can make little sparkles out of it and he gets excited over it.

Sans still doesn't fully understand what Wingdings thinks, which must be frustrating

AND THEN "each time I think I'm close to knowing. She keeps on growing" Sans might think he's close to comprehending things, but Wingdings keeps changing and surprising him and it's at a faster pace everytime (until he's changed so much he's like a different person...and also at some point he becomes Papyrus, that also happens)

I envision this part as the last happy thing that happened before the incident! A little group photo! Wish you could freeze the picture? Wish things could stay this way forever? WELL, I'M SORRY BUT WE ALL KNOW THAT'S NOT GONNA HAPPEN!

Time is about to play a very silly game! (also this is so fitting with Gaster doing weird time things, maybe he is the funny tricks of time)

Sans: "huh," he starts out, and doesn't really elaborate much on it. You can hear him chuckle as he watches you try to figure out just what he meant by that. And as much as he would like to admire the way your face looks as you think, he knows this is a serious topic. He takes your hand, touch as gentle as the wind itself before pulling you just a little closer to him.

What? Can't a guy have a nice cuddle whilst talking about his relationship?

It's easy for him to disarm you, to have you relax because he really doesn't want you to feel like you're walking on eggshells around him. He looks calm as ever as you explain but you know better, from the way his touches linger on you and how his eyelights never stray from you. When it's his turn to speak, Sans isn't really much for words, but he makes it known that he's always rooting for you. Once he's in love, he's all in, and he will always show that, one way or another.

Papyrus: Not offended in the least bit. If anything, he would have a deep fascination with your job and how you work. He's into it, the flair, the dramatics, the legs! He thinks it's Very Cool™. Papyrus isn't one to really judge people by their personality, especially when he's had experience of people doing the same to him. Sure, he'd be surprised but it's more so good surprise because... He wants to know more about you, after all.

He'd also be surprised when you express your fear to him, understanding that the way humans and monsters view certain things differently is very much at play here. Papyrus also doesn't care how long you've been together, if it's something you wanna do, he's ready to support you and you will never experience any judgement from him. (Your workouts are gonna be super fun btw, he had Plans™)

Blue: After you tell him, he kinda just... Goes quiet for a bit. It worries you, rightfully so as you find it hard to properly discern his expression. But he moves a step closer to you and holds your hands, first assuring you that you never have to be afraid to tell him anything. Blue would want to make it known as soon as possible that he will be by you no matter what, your safe space, your pillow to fall on.

But he also assures you that he trusts you, anything you want to do is for you to choose but he will support it so long as you're safe and happy. That's all that really matters to him in the end since, well, it's one of the reasons he fell for you anyway, the fact that it's you. (Also would probably point out the pretty outfits you have and if you'd model for him-)

Stretch: Definitely do not tell him while he's eating or drinking because he will choke. He would then panic and say he didn't choke because he was angry or anything like that, he was just... Very surprised. And he is! He just gets extremely flustered at the idea of you doing literally anything (boy is whipped I tell ya). It takes him a while to completely articulate his thoughts because he wants to tell you that's so cool but also wants to tell it's okay and that you're so awesome and-

There's a lot going through his mind, and you're sat there in dumbfounded silence as you watch the orange hue begin to cover his entire skull. But! He does eventually gather his thoughts and tells you that.. Hey, he thinks you're an amazing person and he's loved you far too long for anything like that to get in the way. He trusts you, and he hopes you trust him as much.

Red: "that's hot-" and he stops upon seeing your face and chuckles. He holds his hands up in defense before moving a little closer once you're a little more relaxed. He starts small, holding your hand before explaining what the culture is like from where he is. He's not the best with words, but Red does succeed in getting his message across, that being:

It is your life, you have the right to decide what you wanna do and what you don't wanna do. But whatever it is you choose to do, he's got your back, no matter how "out there" it is or whatever. You want it? You got it and Red will absolutely make sure that you can depend on him for supporting you. (still will tell you it's hot af tho)

Edge: You think he's judging you but really that's just his resting face. He's a little surprised by the fact that you're so... Unsure of telling him. He voices this concern, because to him, these kinds of things were rather normal in the underground. Whatever it was, as long as it was a means to survive. He takes this a little too seriously, not that it is a bad thing, but it can be rather daunting when he's staring you down as you're both seated on your couch.

And the whole thing kinda... Makes you laugh a little.

Perhaps from how nervous you are, from how overly invested Edge is, but.. it's.. Touching. He's rightfully confused, and huffs when he finds out why, feeling a little shy.(but you would never catch him admitting that lmao). The dramatics only last for a while before you gather your thoughts and explain and Edge is.. Very gentle about it. It's one of those moments that make you understand just why you fell for him, how he makes sure that you understand that he would never, ever judge you for that. He respects you, and he will respect the choices you make as long as you're okay.

Since I've been seeing it a lot lately, weirdly enough, I wanna say how I hc Ink is as a parent:

He already has to write things down on his scarf, yeah? Well, I think he would do the same with his kiddos. Except! That's so much info to have. Especially if you subscribe to the belief he has multiple kids with multiple people at once instead of only one set of kids with X person.

So, for each kid, he has a notebook dedicated to them. He has a list of things they like, things they don't, what they're scared of, how to do bedtime routines, ect ect.

Of course, at first, it's hard as hell for him to keep all that organized, to be organized in general, and he definitely stumbled around. But he at least TRIED. STILL tries. It comes a little easier for him as time goes on, but he still relies on the notebooks. Especially as the kiddos get older and they mold into different personalities.

He also has to create a place for them to live. Can't just have them wander around the Doodlesphere all willy nilly! Well, he could, but he would definitely not want to go on a hunt for the missing tyke as well as possibly explaining what happened to the other parent. So a legit home with bedrooms and other needs it is!

Speaking of other needs...kids gotta eat, right? Crap. That means he has to learn how to make at least something from time-to-time. Can't keep constantly eating out! That's such a hassle! Plus, it's not healthy (several Toriels told him so). Cue many burnt to hell meals, several almost house fires, and just going out for food anyways before he can figure out how to make something at least edible. Even then, it takes even longer for what he can make to taste good.

Lots of frustration. Lots of calls to his dads, Blue and Dream, sometimes a Toriel or two, sometimes even another Sans or a Papyrus, begging for help. Lots of zoning out from the stress coz this was easier when he was by himself, but he helped create the little thing reliant on him and will never forget him and won't abandon him like his own creator so he needs to be on top of it and stars how does Dream do this all the time with an entire Multiverse!

And he has yet another conundrum to deal with: his paints are mixing oddly. He doesn't understand why he became so highly protective of the little one in his arms when it was suggested he should put them up for adoption (no one ever suggested that again, they did not want to see a raging Ink a second time). Or why whenever they look at him he gets this warm, fuzzy 'feeling'. He mixed his paints as usual, and even changed it up a few times. Still the same protectiveness and the weird 'feeling'.

It takes an embarrassingly long time before he finally takes about it with someone, it just comes up randomly in said conversation, and he finds out what it all is is parental love. Love so strong that it overrides his paints somehow. Just like with everything else, he has no idea what to do. Technically, this shouldn't be possible! Or...he thought it wouldn't be. It also takes an embarrassingly long time for it to click for him that this is a thing, and it's not going to go away. When it finally sets in...he tells the kiddo(s) that he loves them, absolutely sobbing and smiling a little too wide coz, wow, he can feel love! And he doesn't miss a single moment to announce it to anyone who listens (pay no mind to the pics he shares of the ankle biter, he's just excited).

What about the other parent?

Well, depending on who it is, it shouldn't be too much work to convince them to be in the little one's life. Definitely no moving in (he has thought about it, scripts be damned), but there should be slotted times for everyone to be together, or the kids having time with their other parent. Hell, might even be the other parent who suggests all the things and they might be the one who has the kid living with them while Ink is the one with visitation (and in that case he visits daily coz he is just too fond and protective).

But what if the other parent is one of those that just...wants nothing to do with the little one they helped make? Well...it'll be hard. At first, Ink won't make a fuss. He has plenty of people who would help him. The kiddos don't need the other parent! But as time goes on, and maybe a few curious questions from said little one...he will feel another surge of protectiveness. He never hid who the other parent was, and has asked everyone else not to either, but now it's more serious. Nights of cries for someone never there, hundreds of questions why the other "doesn't love me"...Ink will not stand it. He will invade the other's space with a passionate and firm speech. All he's asking for is just every other weekend with the kid, and they have 2 months to prepare to pick them up at the home he made in the Doodlesphere. He won't force them to come, to be in the child's life. But he has to try. If they don't show up, then he has something planned instead for the whole weekend, on top of apologizing for something not his fault. At least he tried...and hopefully that's enough.

And, wow. That's it. I got my ramblings out. All done. Pretty sure nobody would subscribe to this, but eh. Everyone has their own headcannons and what have you. It's all in a bit of fun!

Now, if you excuse me...I have a fic to write about this...

mettaton: cereal-in-the-shape-of-mettaton's-face after milk-in-the-shape-of-mettaton's-face. by the way, every item of food merchandise he sells is available as ghost food as well. he's one of the staples of a ghost's diet on the surface because of this, as there aren't many ghost foods available. in the underground ghost produce was a lot easier to come by but on the surface they now make up an even smaller portion of the porpulation than they already did so it's tough to come by. thanks mettaton!

toriel: doesn't encourage eating cereal because it tends to be unhealthy, but occasionally takes a cheat day. milk before cereal. doesn't understand why there's a debate about this. as far as she's concerned the only wrong way to eat cereal is sans's way

And now spoiler-y TS!US thoughts

I actually mostly just want to talk about the character writing for Sans and Papyrus because they are my favorite characters and my heart flutters when fancontent does them right. Ok first of all

Sans is scary :scared:

I feel like Sans is a character that has lost a lot of his edge when it comes to fancontent. What makes Sans intimidating is the fact that you don't see it coming when he's being serious with you; it's meant to catch you off guard. But nowadays everyone and their mom knows about Sans' secret super powerful scary side in the Undertale No-Mercy Run... and it doesn't have that same bite when fancontent tries to portray him as threatening.

TS!Underswap Sans is a very, very well done subversion of that. He comes right out of the gate letting you know that he hunts down bad people, and that he's not afraid to mess you up if you decide to do messed-up things. And you think that he's talking about his superhero persona, and he's putting on an act for you, but then you do a No Mercy run and find out that he is being 100% serious. You knew it was coming and yet it still blindsides you when he actually decides to hunt you down for being a weirdo murderer. It doesn't feel out of character and it doesn't feel unearned; Sans is a hero, and he will do what a hero needs to do. In every sense of the word.

Writing him to be a superhero was a really genius choice. You can have him be his normal lazy slacker self when he's out of costume, and therefore he can fill in Papyrus' role a la Underswap without it feeling OOC, because he's acting. But as I just pointed out--... he's not acting. He is, but he's not. He's an enigma of a guy, and you never know when you're supposed to be taking him seriously, and THAT is the mark of a very good Sans characterization.

Papyrus... we don't actually know that much about, I feel. I really wish I had more to say about him, but I think the fact that I don't makes it work all the more. He takes Sans' role, so it's sort of a given that he's mysterious. He's an inventor, too! What a fun little callback to Undertale Papyrus and all of those little gadgets he made.

His No Mercy characterization is really, really interesting. Despite taking Sans' role, he still comes at you with utmost compassion and understanding-- and it just makes me wonder all the more how everything will play out. I feel like NM final boss Papyrus is so, so often mischaracterized-- people write him as way too willing to fight, way too willing to get vengeance. That's not him! Papyrus is the one person who will stick with you to the end, and always believe that you can be better-- and dropping him into Sans' role with that in mind could be so so SO interesting! I have the utmost faith in Team Switched to do something clever here.

Also, Papyrus' reaction to Sans' death was heartbreaking.

Changing the subject, in this universe-- Frisk and Monster Kid take the role of the first fallen human and Asriel, respectively. I really, really doubt that Frisk has any ties to Chara's soul in this universe in the same way that Frisk and Chara were connected in Undertale. In fact, I have a good feeling that Frisk and MK were reincarnated into Flowey and Temmie, respectively.

Flowey specifically talks in a very neutral, unwavering tone. They don't have any strong opinions on any route you choose to take, and they'll follow and help you out regardless. They're outwardly friendly but also unsubtlely sarcastic and detatched. Kind of what we get from Frisk, using the very minuscule characterization given to us.

Also, I feel like Flowey being genderless in this universe is pretty significant. Haha.

I think that's all I have to say for right now. I didn't mean for Sans to take up half of this post-- in fact, I didn't really like his character until I played the NM route... and then everything clicked. Such good character writing

He thinks you are crazy, why wouldn’t he like you? You are his date mate, if he didn’t like you he wouldn’t be with you. Anytime he notices you making comments about yourself he always makes sure to remind you he likes you the way you are. He will overcompensate by calling you extremely masculine terms “my man boyfriend” “my pretty BOY” he will even pretend to phone call somone and just talk about you. “‘Y BOYFRIEND is so HANDSOME, HE is awsome and so MASCULINE” and he won’t stop until you break a smile or laugh.

Ut papyrus

AGAST, WHAT?? Emergency boyfriend protocol!🚨🚨 if papyrus gets even a WHIFF of self doubt from you he will immediately praise you until you can’t handle it anymore. He loves his handsome wonderful boyfriend! And he is determined to make sure you KNOW! He doesn’t care you are short, easier to carry you and give you kisses. Voice to high? Nonsense, have you heard papyrus speak? Papyrus doesn’t even LIKE girls (in this instance/au) and you are no girl. He will keep going until you finally admit that your fears, though valid, are not logical or based in fact. Only then will you be rewarded with kisses cuddles.

US sans

He gives you the big side eye. Whaat? First he worried that he made you feel that way- but then when he realizes that’s not the case he just becomes confused. All he sees is his attractive perfect mate who meets all his standards and needs. He will make you stay home and be alone him as he “subtly” makes comments about how perfect you are to him, slowly growing more intense as the day goes on. Even going as far to grab a jar and ask you to open it, as the man of the house of course.

US papyrus

He understands, often having his own anxiety about himself and if he is good enough. Instead of overwhelming you with complements he tries to get to the root of the problem. What makes you feel you are to short? Why do you think your voice is to high? You two both talk about what feelings these things bring up and what you can do for each-other for comfort. Of course he still chooses to compliment and tell you how much he loves you no matter what.

UF sans

Sans loves that your short, makes him feel big and strong. But he can understand how it can make you feel bad, he hates being known as short to most monsters. Sans isn’t great at comforting but he can try, he gives you a break on the jokes about your voice and height and stuff and always makes sure you know how handsome he thinks you are. And he absolutely threatens to beat anyone who dares insult your masculinity, after all you are his boyfriend.

UF papyrus

He doesn’t really understand why you feel this way, it makes him feel like he’s failing as a mate- but that’s his own issue to deal with. In private he makes sure to give you lots of nuzzles and kisses, murmuring compliments into your skin as he does. Publicly he announces you as his boyfriend more often and makes sure anyone around is well aware of how handsome and amazing you are.

Why Sans & Papyrus' are from Deltarune, and how it's so controversial

In the Deltarune fandom, I've been noticing some recent debate on whether Sans & Papyrus are truly from Undertale's world or Deltarune's world. So, I've decided to make a Tumblr theory post to cover several aspects of this! Enjoy!

Part I of this post covers the evidence, II covers counter-evidence, and III covers the controversy of it.

Part I - Are they from DELTARUNE's world? Here's some of the evidence:

• In the Genocide battle against Sans, he begins speaking about "going back." To where? Well.... • This is also a parallel to some of his dialogue on the Pacifist run. He comments to Frisk that he understands their feeling of longing to return home.

• However, this could just mean the surface, right?

• With that one line, Sans has made it clear that neither the Undergroud nor the Surface is his true home.

He also is the only returning Undertale character with absolutely zero outfit or theme song changes between games.

• Okay, but what about Papyrus? He's a totally different guy in Deltarune! He never goes outside, and in Undertale, he claims to have never seen a human.

• Well, I do have a few counters to this.

• As many fans will know, Papyrus confirmed in the Summer 2023 newsletter that he used to live in a place with green grass, such as the place that he and Sans on in Hometown.

• Now, that confirms Sans and Papyrus are both from the same world, and likely the Deltarune world as previously established. They also may have gotten the means to travel from the third skeleton, Gaster, who is all but confirmed to be a major player in Deltarune.

• As for why Papyrus acts so differently depending on the worlds; well... I don't subscribe to amnesia theory. It leans too hard into giving Sans the better treatment, so instead, I'd say Papyrus is purposefully in denial. How so? Let's read some dialogue from the King Papyrus ending.

All of this makes it seem like Papyrus is used to denial and making himself forget things. This seems to cast a new light onto that "don't forget." note as well. However, with all that out of the way, let me move on to addressing some counter arguments.

Part II - Merchandise, Dust, and Kris

• Okay, if Papyrus is from Deltarune, why does he dust? Berdly doesn't dust when he dies, and Sans isn't shown to dust either.

This is explained via the "fallen down" mechanism, when monsters are near-dead but are not fully dusted. This happens to Undertale monsters, and presumably Berdly as well. Berdly enters a deathly coma which is a major symptom of fallen down, and when Sans dies we don't see him dust on-screen. He possibly entered the state, and the reason we don't see him in the overworld is because he either already dusted, or he teleported away and remained in a coma. Due to the fact we earned an LV I'd go with the former.

Merchandise. Toby promised there wouldn't be merch of Deltarune lightners, but there's a Papyrus and Sans plush!

• Well, I'd say these are just based on where they appear first, they're branded as Undertale anyway. It'd be like if Smash Bros. Ultimate labelled Sans as a Deltarune character. For now, and likely for forever unless some crazy specific stuff happens, these two will be more associated with Undertale.

Part II.I - The Kris Argument

Papyrus has never met a human! Thus, we either can't see him in Deltarune or he's from Undertale.

Well, this is a fair point, but assuming Papyrus Denial Theory is true, him blocking away all of his memories of the Deltarune world could explain this! But even ignoring that....The skeletons are known to be quite the secretive sillies, even ignoring Gaster.

So in general, with all the counterpoints out of the way, why is this controversial in general?

Part III: Controversy

Many people argue that Sans & Papyrus being from Deltarune would be a case of poor writing.

Several have expressed concerns about how Undertale characters already have a game, and how multiverse stories in recent memory have often messed up, and how Toby could fall into said traps. Last thing we want is Bad Time Megalovania 2 Strike Back right?

I've also seen it be called "Toby leaning into fandom tropes" as well but to be fair, Toby created said tropes with lines by Sans and Alphys implying AU's exist canonically, and he himself pushes Sans as a mascot all the time, though he isn't the main character.

But yeah, with the several decent counterpoints explained away, it somewhat confuses me how large the group of people is that still deny Sans is from Deltarune is, albeit I understand their concerns.

So, since this seems to be really divisive these days (though generally most agree with me..)

I'd like to ask;

Do you think Sans & Papyrus are from Deltarune?

Undertale Sans - He does, and he shyly says it's look good on you, before flushing hard and immediately pretending to do something else. Sans is still very shy when it comes to complimenting people (except for his brother somehow). But he likes it a lot.

Undertale Papyrus - He immediately starts to compliment you, asking you to turn on yourself so he can see better. Papyrus loves your new style (there's not a lot of things he doesn't like concerning you anyway) and he just talks about your hair all day long. Yes, he noticed.

Underswap Sans - He swears something is off with you but he's not sure what. He keeps study you until he realizes after around twenty minutes. Took him long enough, but at least he's good at flattery and the incident is quickly forgotten.

Underswap Papyrus - He notices when he cuddles you because his face starts to swell. He's allergic to one of the products the hairstylist put on your hair and now he's kinda dying. You're pretty though, that could be a far worse way of dying.

Underfell Sans - What? The hell you're looking at him this way for? You're stressing him out, staring at you intensely for no reason. He doesn't understand what's wrong. Did he do something wrong? Uh... He picks up his apology cards and starts to read them one after the other in case he did something wrong and he doesn't know what. He stops after each apology, scrutinizing your face to see if he got the right one or not.

Underfell Papyrus - He nods approvingly, but he doesn't compliment fully. It's still not very natural for him to say nice things to people. At least he plays with your hair during the night which is his weird way to say he likes them.

Horrortale Sans - You think he's going to come see your hair, but no, he tackles you on the couch like a bear to cuddle you, just happy to see you. He didn't notice your hair, or maybe he did at some point and forget immediately, he's not sure. He just wants to cuddle. He adopted you for you, not your hair.

Horrortale Papyrus - He's excited about your new haircut and keeps turning around you to see it better. He's a little jealous you look so cool why he looks... Well... Who cares! You're beautiful, and he won't stop telling you what he thinks of your new haircut all day.

Swapfell Sans - Yes, he supposed this is correct. What? What do you mean he's offended because you didn't ask him to cut your hair first? That has obviously nothing to do with that, stop imagining things. He's pouting now.

Swapfell Papyrus - NOOOOO! HOW COULD YOU! He's devastated you cut your hair so short. How is he going to play with your hair now? He throws himself on the couch like a dying whale and starts to whine like a child just loud enough to be annoying. He's just kidding though. He likes your hair like that. That still doesn't mean he's not going to get revenge at some point in the week.

Fellswap Gold Sans - Well whoever did that to your hair did a shit job and he's going to fix it right away. No one has the right to touch his S/O's hair but him so he's going to redo everything just out of spite. Clearly, he can do way better than that because you deserve a lot more than that. You better get a refund after this because it's illegal to cut your hair so badly. Yes, Wine is 100% jealous.

Fellswap Gold Papyrus - He says you're pretty, then nuzzles your hair, then... Well... Good luck to push him away because he won't move from there for at least two hours. He wants cuddles. Now.

my interpretations of different AU skeletons(for the Neighborhood AU)🌺✨

Sans

Your typical lazy guy and cool uncle that lets you get away with stuff and can randomly infodump about the wonders of space when possible. The most chill and comforting guy you could know. Pretty close to canon but just Slightly fanon. No, he doesn't know about Resets. He DOES know the Timeline theory exists as there are other versions of him literally walking around, but he has no clue about time suddenly stopping and restarting. That's something only Frisk and Flowey know of.

Papyrus

The coolest dude ever!!! A well mannered man skilled in combat training and happens to like a lot of action movies, especially ones like Batman or Deadpool for the more brutal themes and humor. (He watches them with various others.) He genuinely wants to see the good in people, and believes in being kind until proven he should think otherwise. He doesn't hate puns, he just hates when they're basic! When there's more thought put in, that's when he enjoys them, even cracking a few of his own. His favorite color is green.

Red

Another case of "cool uncle that lets you get away with shit", though in this case it'd be more like

"yo red I got in a fight"

"..did you win?"

"yeah-"

"good. 's all i care about."

He works on a lot of old junk to try and fix it up, it's a fun hobby for him. He's also in a band! Pretty skilled with the electric guitar. He's a bit more reserved when you first meet him but when he gets comfortable he'll warm right up to you. He even gets a bit more confident. Though he does have his moments where confidence seeps through anyway, like when he's performing.

Edge

Edge is the embodiment of Sass. If he has something to say he WILL say it. He's a bit cold to anyone upon first meeting them, kinda like a cat. But once he grows to appreciate one's presence he's a lot softer towards them, more welcoming. Especially when they understand him. He's also very stylish! Has a lot of cool name brands in his closet (that he'll share with you if you're nice enough/can fit the stuff). Also absolutely adores cats, Doomfanger is his number one though. Always and forever. He can also play the piano!

Blue

The most energetic guy in the group, and also the one that works out the most. You need him, he's there right away. He's very optimistic about things, and like classic Papyrus, wants to see the good in everyone around him. A walking green flag, one of the most trustworthy characters here alongside Papyrus. He's also kinda like a single father when he has to take care of Blueberry so that's a thing- it's kinda a mix of a sibling dynamic and a parent-child dynamic between the two. Is a coffee addict, just like Black. Take it away from him.

Stretch

One of the more chill and mellow characters, usually found high. But he's fun to be around when he isn't high as well, and can usually get along with people. He and Rus often get into chaotic shenanigans together, staying up late to do dumb stuff. You could probably see them building a tower of cards on top of Red's head while he's sleeping or something. His hoodies usually smell like honey, he has a bunch of them that look exactly the same like he's straight out of Charlie Brown. That isn't to say he doesn't have other outfits, though. He likes to write his own stories.

Black

Officer, it's this one, this one's the overworker!!! He's the wine aunt of the group. Has an addiction to coffee he shares with Blue, and also likes to indulge in different kinds of wine from time to time. He and Edge have similar fashion tastes, only he likes to go for shades of purple where Edge prefers Red. He often has to be forced to rest due to wanting to work on projects overnight. LOOOOVES to gossip about workplace drama and other things, and will be very happy to tell you about anything.

Rus

Get this man some sleep he is TIRED!! But yet he refuses to get rest until someone makes him. Rus is an artist, often doing commissions and working on silly projects with Stretch. He's probably one of the quicker ones to befriend you, and once he does his usual quiet demeanor fades away. Likes to lean on people he likes a lot as long as they don't mind it. He has some tattoos drawn onto his arms. They're just made with marker though, so he can change them anytime he feels like it.

Mars/"Horror"

Mars is one of the more reserved members of the group, he often instigates fights with Red because he thinks his reactions are funny. Will tell people like it is, and doesn't hold back either. If he doesn't like someone, he'd exchange very few words with them. But if he does like someone, he'll be more open to talk with them and slowly grow more and more comfortable. Yes he has the pet bird here too, it's in every timeline. He's still taking the time to adapt to a peaceful timeline where nothing's wrong. Has memory problems, and keeps a notepad in his pocket to remember everything crucial. Sometimes he has to be reminded to eat, because he forgets. Will appreciate anyone being patient with him. He can be a liiiittle bit of an asshole sometimes but we still love him.

Another guy that absolutely loves gossip, often talking about it with Black. He can be a little loud sometimes without meaning to be, due to his hearing struggles. Got his teeth and eyes fixed a few months after living in the universe, has a little gap between his front teeth. He loooves making sweaters for everybody, and acts a lot like a Mom friend. After taking classes he became one of the better cooks of the group!

Given that the winter clock dialogue shows Flowey on the surface living with Frisk and their found family (unsure of actual living arrangements but assuming he lives with Frisk and Toriel), how do you think a REAL "yes, I used to be Asriel" conversation would come about?

The winter dialogue does have Toriel acknowledge him as "Asriel", but she was black-out drunk at the time so her thought process/memory in this case is debatable.

She has at least noticed key similarities between Asriel and Flowey, but even if she knows the truth there's nothing to suggest she's brought it up while sober.

I'm more interested in the prospect of a thoughtful conversation between the two after the fact. It seems kind of inevitable if Flowey is spending the rest of his life on the surface, but how would it go?

Would an uncomfortable Flowey have to deal with an emotional reunion? Would Toriel have a better understanding of his boundaries due to more recent shared experiences? How shocked would she be that a part of her first ever child was with her once again?

I'm absolutely positive that she would share custody with Asgore after it's out in the open, even if she isn't completely comfortable with it. Not sure how Sans would feel about things since it's pretty clear he's killed before, but a judge can't really do their job without the whole truth. Maybe he'd be willing to hear him out?

not sure where you're getting the "they're co-living and it's canon" from, flowey isn't shown to be living with toriel, neither is frisk mentioned in any of the dialogues. I'm assuming the implication here is that frisk IS the reader, and that ambiguity allows for both the "i want to stay with you" and "i have places to go" endings. we know flowey's not secluded to the RUINs anymore as was his original plan, and we know he's kept in contact with papyrus, who's trying to introduce him to the others (although unsuccessfully so far), but nothing more than that.

as for toriel, I don't think her calling him asriel was either intentional or rational. I think it was a subconscious expression of the ""true"" reason she's holed herself up in the RUINs trying to save the fallen humans. if a froggit happened to hop by at that moment, she would've done the same to it.

flowey/asriel reveal, huh? hm... let's see. to be honest, i don't think flowey would ever come clean about either his identity or his crimes to anyone else, especially not his old family. not of his own volition, that is. i could see some kind of indiscretion happening that causes him to reveal it on accident, but he would bolt it out of there as soon as he realized his cover was blown. he doesn't like confronting his issues! subsequent conversation attempts with him would be extremely emotionally immature and hard to get through, as the situation would temporarily undo some of his progress after leaving the underground as a trauma response. toriel... wouldn't be doing well either. super messy situation. no one is happy with this

the custody thing is really funny to me. mostly because i find the idea of trying to explain to a lawyer that you need to amend your divorce settlement bc you didn't know you had an undead son absolutely hilarious. but also because flowey would go out of his way to contradict it and do whatever he wants out of spite

First Day, Previous Day, & Next Day.

Day 17: Languages

"You Know What I Find Interesting?" Papyrus asked out of nowhere one afternoon while you were sitting together on the couch.

You looked over at him quizzically. "What's that?"

"It Is Interesting How You And Frisk Can Communicate So Well Just By Making A Few Gestures With Your Hands," he said thoughtfully. "Is It Something All Humans Can Do?"

You chuckled softly and shook your head. "No, we had to learn and most humans don't know the language because they don't need to."

"Do Humans Have Multiple Languages Then?"

"So many," you said. "I couldn't even begin to tell you how many there are. I only ever learned sign language in order to communicate with Frisk but I'm still a bit rusty at it compared to them."

Upon hearing their name, Frisk glanced up from the drawing they were working on at the coffee table. They smiled warmly at you and Papyrus before going back to colouring.

You smiled back at them. After a few minutes of silence, you spoke again but in a slightly lower voice this time. "As far as I know from what little I've talked with their parents, Frisk just doesn't talk, even though they know how. They were put in special classes at school which is where they learned sign language. When we first met, Frisk was still learning but they didn't have many people to practice with. That's one reason I learned actually, so they could practice more."

"That Is Admirable," Papyrus hummed thoughtfully. He shifted slightly closer to you so he could put his arm around your shoulders and hold you close. "Do You Think Their Parents Miss Them?" he whispered in your ear.

You didn't answer at first as you considered his question. "Probably, it's only natural to miss someone once they're gone, especially if they're part of your family," you finally concluded.

You could feel Papyrus' eyelights on you. Turning to look at him, you could see he could tell you hadn't been entirely truthful. He didn't press further but his eye sockets were slightly narrowed as if he was silently judging your vague answer.

You sighed and glanced away. "I really don't know, Papyrus. I hope they do, but...they always seemed to act like they didn't care. They seemingly made no effort to learn how to communicate with their own kid and for crying out loud, they let them hang out with a complete stranger."

You chuckled and ran a hand over your face before continuing. "I tried to communicate my concerns with them but they always brushed me off. I tried not to get involved at first but I couldn't shake the feeling that something awful could happen to them. So, I started spending time with them and we became friends."

Papyrus nodded quietly, "Wow... I Can See Why You Care So Much About Them."

"Yeah, I want them to be alright but there's only so much I can do." You sighed, "I wish I could do more some days."

He squeezed your shoulder in a comforting way. "You Are Doing A Good Job All Things Considered," he said.

You smiled slightly at him. "Thanks."

After a moment's silence, you had a question for him and wanted to talk about something more positive anyways. "You and Sans seem to have no issue understanding Frisk. How do you know sign language?"

"Oh, I Do Not Actually Know Sign Language. I Can Understand Them Though Even If I Do Not Remember How To Replicate The Gestures." He thought for a moment before adding, "It Is Just Something I Know, But I Can Also Read Their Intent And Get An Idea Of What They're Saying That Way."

Sans teleported into the living room just then and after glancing at the three of you, he stepped into the kitchen.

"How does that work? Is it like magic based?" you asked, barely registering Sans' presence.

Papyrus looked thoughtful for a moment before answering. "Sort Of? Monsters Are Made Of Magic So Most Things We Do Have To Do With Magic. Intent Is Like Reading The True Desires Of Your Soul And Is Quite Useful In Communicating With Others," he explained.

Sans came back into the living room with a mustard bottle in hand and you motioned for him to come closer. He tilted his skull curiously and walked over to the couch. " 'sup?" he asked.

"Papyrus just told me he can understand Frisk, despite not knowing sign language himself. Are you able to as well?"

Sans hummed in agreement, "yep, i think there's two reasons for that. intent, as paps mentioned, but the way i see it, sign language is just similar to wing dings."

"Wing Dings?" you asked, but Sans just shrugged and started to walk away. He was apparently uninterested in explaining it to you.

Papyrus seemed a bit surprised. "I Had Not Thought Of That," he murmured thoughtfully. Seeing your visible confusion, he smiled and decided to elaborate a little.

"You Would Not Be Able To Tell As You Cannot Read Intent, But All Skeletons Speak In Unique Tones And Are Traditionally Named After Typefaces Or Fonts To Reflect This. I Am Named After The Papyrus Typeface, While My Brother Is Named After The Comic Sans Typeface."

"That's interesting. So what is Wing Dings then?" you asked again.

"Wing Dings Is An Old Tone, However There Is No Record Of Anyone Being Named After It, At Least Not That Either Of Us Could Find. It Is Almost Like A Separate Language And Heavily Relies On The Listener's Ability To Read Intent In Order To Understand The Speaker. While We Understand It Regardless, The Strange Thing Is That Neither Of Us Can Remember Learning It."

"Languages aren't normally something that you can suddenly just know, unless I'm wrong and it works differently for Monsters?"

"I Do Not Believe So. Monsters Do Not Have Nearly As Many Languages As Humans Do, So While It Is Curious That We Know This Language, It Ultimately Does Not Matter."

You frowned slightly, "You mentioned before that neither of you really remember much of your early childhood. Maybe you learned Wing Dings but forgot about learning it?"

Papyrus sighed and shook his skull. "There Is No Way Of Knowing Now As We Are The Only Skeletons Left." He said it so casually, as if he hadn't just dropped a bomb on you by saying that.

You stared at him in shock. You couldn't imagine being the last of your kind, let alone having never met any of your own.

Seeing your concerned reaction, he patted your shoulder reassuringly. "It Is Alright. Sure, We Have Often Wondered Why We Were Completely Alone And Without Memory Of Our Parents. But, The Main Reason Seems To Be Because Almost All Skeletons Were Wiped Out During The War And There Are No Records Of Any Surviving Skeletons In The Years Afterwards."

You didn't know what to say after all that. So instead, you snuggled a bit closer to him and he responded by gently nuzzling the top of your head.

It suddenly occurred to you that it had been almost a full month since you'd even considered leaving to try to return to the surface with Frisk. While you knew that it was currently impossible, you'd also started to feel at home here. What with everything that had happened and then Undyne finding out about you two, there was no way you wanted to leave any time soon.

You found yourself wanting to be there for not just Frisk, but Papyrus as well now that you'd come to understand him better. You wanted to open your life to him and make more happy memories together. You wanted to tell him how you truly felt about him too.

You wanted to love again.
