BREAKING MY SILENCE

I'll probably make this on Twitter also, though I doubt it'll really attract (on both Tumblr and Twitter) many people but OH MY FUCKING GOD. THIS NEEDS TO BE SAID.

I know OTHER people have probably talked about this (or maybe not)— plus the Harry Potter fandom is probably dead at this point or maybe still thriving somehow in ways I don't really know but LILY FUCKING EVANS MADE THE WORST DECISION POSSIBLE AFTER ENDING HER AND SEVERUS' FRIENDSHIP.

Look, she was like practically a minor character yet was kinda important to the plot but honestly she deserved to be with someone better than James Potter. No hate or dumb reasons are gonna be thrown at Lily but girlie was dumb as fuck entirely for having a kid with her friends bully who made his school life HELL.

It's been on my mind the more I think about Severus' past and James and Sirius bullying.

I genuinely like Sirius as a character but bro cannot be bullying Snape, like sweetheart we know your an inbred rich child but that doesn't mean you should bully someone who's the LITERAL opposite of you. (expect for neglect and abuse)

James was a fucking jock.

LISTEN & IMAGINE. A friend of yours who you've know for maybe about 6 years calls you the worst insult ever, in a fit of rage, you break the friendship and ofc, leave. That's genuinely completely understandable to one who has common sense.

BUT THEN, after that, you go on to marry your ex friends bully that HAS MADE YOUR EX FRIENDS SCHOOL LIFE MISERABLE AND SHITTY.

Sure it's COMPLETELY understandable how Lily can be mad at Severus for calling her a "Mudblood" because that's a canonical slur against muggle-borns, really, BUT THAT DOESN'T MEAN SHE HAD TO MARRY SEVERUS' BULLY WHO BULLIED HIM RELENTLESSLY, and that's so fucked up in many ways. And YES. As far as I'm concerned, Lily seemed to only like James because:

He wasn't strongly associated with the dark arts

Wasn't associated with future death eaters/followers of Voldemort

I don't think it's confirmed how long James and Sirius had been bullying Snape but it makes me SOOOO fucking livid that like... HOW THE FUCK DO YOU ACTUALLY LIKE A CHARACTER IF YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND THEIR FLAWS AND HOLD THEM ACCOUNTABLE FOR THEIR ACTIONS? (*Cough Cough* James and Sirius "fans" *COUGH*)

If I'm being 100% honest, I've never seen anyone say "James/Sirius is better than Snape" ever and not even ONCE in my lifetime being in the Harry Potter fandom.

There's really not much on Snape's past during his school years but in all honesty, Lily Evans was dumb as fuck for dating her friends bully like okay, MAYBE James and Sirius did take accountability at one point and confessed to Lily. JUST MAYBE. But I don't remember nor heard anyone saying that was true nor JK Rowling saying anything about them taking accountability.

AND I DON'T THINK THEY EVEN APOLOGIZED TO SNAPE EITHER. (Maybe regretted it but that's not taking accountability for one's actions, perhaps Remus did but never heard anyone saying that was true either because it's probably just a headcannon and Remus probably didn't even bully Snape at all)

Lily Evans... I love you and all and I don't hate you... You just disappointed me.

No hate to people who genuinely ship James and Lily (love the fanarts) but Lily deserved better than that. Perhaps she also knew about the werewolf incident but if I were her I would've BITCH SLAPPED Sirius to remind him of being inbred and stupid as fuck BECAUSE WHAT????

I HAVE NEVER SEEN ANYONE YET TALKING ABOUT THIS AND SHITTING ON LILY (for being flawed ofc yet dumb as shit). Lily in general is a good person but she had flaws that needed to be talked about and HERE I AM.

James & Sirius bullying was ignorant and really unjustifiable, Peter and Remus should've known better but I don't ENTIRELY blame them but they should've known fucking better. Lily WAS understandable up until she got together with James and I kinda wanna bitch slap her right now.

Honestly if I were Lily, I genuinely would've gotten together with Snape and ACTUALLY helped him like any person with COMMON SENSE would do.

And to end it off with a cherry on top. James and Sirius bullying Snape should be talked about more and we should shit on them for their flaws yet ignorance actions that they didn't even try to take any single OUNCE of accountability for. Just because you learned from your bullying mistakes and "becoming a more mature and better person" isn't justifiable and shows your blind fucking ignorance to your affects of bullying to other people you dumb dipshit fucker.

17. CZECH REPUBLIC

Benny Christo - “Kemama”

So first off, thank you for the nice commens. 😇The past few months haven’t been the happiest time for me, so thank you for your patience as I scraped my bearings together for another post! 😁

So I will now extend that same sympathy to Benny Christo, whom I think I damn fucking underrated. Let’s jump in~

ENTRY ANALYSIS

As one may expect i INSTANTLY liked “Kemama” because you know, it’s a fun, laid-back, tropical afro-breeze, completely different from anything else we would see in NFs and the year. EXACTLY the type of song I was hoping the Czech NF would deliver (and deliver they did, see NF Corner). This level of mild like swung into strong unironic like upon realizing that the title is a contraction of “Okay Mother” 😍 and the song deals with the subject of overcoming racially-tinged discrimination and rising above the hate. That just feels very poetic and apt? “Kemama” felt like the entry that had to overcome the highest odds in order to earn the respect it so fully deserves, and still hasn’t fully reached it.

.In our Western European bubble, comprised mostly of gays and left-liberal straights, we have a very grateful and universal acceptance of many different kinds of [lizard] people that make up Eurovision casts. Yet with “Kemama” we may have reached  an unusually grimy undercurrent of coded racism. 

Of course nothing I read was outrageously rancid, than Cod for that. The worst statement I read was a double-whammy of “EWW THIS ISN’T CARIBBEANVISION” and “WHY WOULD SOMEONE FROM *KENYA* WANT TO REP CZECHIA IN EUROVISION?”, and yes they first got the continent wrong and then *also* got the country wrong in the follow-up post and then they were torn limb from limb by a pack of aformentioned left-liberals. I’m sorry but i can’t not have any other response than laughter in the face of yet another fucking MORON faceplanting themselves with words like a... racist JK Rowling if you will?

Still, while I never read something outright vile about Benny doesn’t mean I found his deniers really annoying and they were! Think “Ew Solovey is ‘Too Aggressive’ it will NEVER DO WELL IN ESC”, a statement that isn’t coded nor racist (and yet extremely false and misguided), functioned as a similar idea by the same minds. A statement borne from the same breed of narrow-minded stubbornness which has caused elitist morons to be all “there is **SOMETHING** about “Kemama” i do *NOT* like and I cannot lay my finger on it... but I **DO NOT** like it at ALL. It won’t ever qualify because everyone will think the same way I do” -- Eurovision snobs, tiptoeing around racial coda in January 2020.

 They would also insist that Benny was “arrogant” because he was seemingly impervious to their (de)constructive criticism. Like, if you were a biracial butterfly living in a slavic country who had to deal with statements such as the above on a regular basis, you WOULD block out the noise. And if you heard them often enough you will start to block them out pre-emptively. DO YOU NOT KNOW HOW COPING MECHANISMS WORK?? (oh wait you’re white-privileged. Nevermind 🙄)

 So naturally, when Benny decided that he would revamp “Okay Mother” by adding in MORE African elements it only made me love him even more lol. 😍 Was it a bull-headed, contrarian and possibly really stupid decision? Yes, yes and absolutely yes. Was it worth it? Well he managed to incite even more meltdowns in a group of people I feel nothing but contempt for, so hell yeah? Eurovision was cancelled anyway so who cares how much ‘worse’ “Kemama” actually got. 

Okay, so we’ve arrived at the revamp.

Granted, it wasn’t the best ‘vamp, I’d be a fool to deny it. The new elements threw a wrench in the melodic balance of the song. Out went tropical laid-back fun, IN went that fucking guitar oh my god this is some Hotel FM piano levels of overbearing I swear. (nb: this still didn’t stop me from ironically stanning Hotel FM’s lame asses anyway 😍). However, it made the personal backstory that I loved and savoured take a backseat to the now inferior composition. 😭

Regardless, New Kemama was fundamentally the same song, and I fundamentally liked Old Kemama, so whatevs, it made no different to me. In the eyes of many Eurovision diehards we were experiencing WORST PRESHOW SEASON EVER (after three songs... lol) and nothing clinches this brainworm more than a revamp announcement. “OH MY GOD HE WILL RUIN IT! I CAN GUARANTEE YOU I *WON’T* LIKE IT”. Self-fulfilling prophecies, ya know? It certainly didn’t help when the official channel accidentally uploaded a vid with broken soundmixing (‘OMG HORRIBLE LAST IN THE SEMI!!!!’ calm the ever-loving HELL down) and took another FULL WEEK to upload the correct vid. The damage had already been done. Typing "SEE I TOLD YOU THE REVAMP WOULD BE SHITE HA HA HA” in the Kemama comment box really just is the ESC equivalent of reponding with “Actually, *all* lives matter :smug:” to a BLM support pamphlet, isn’t it?

NF CORNER

While not my favourite NF of the bunch, I found the Czech NF to be lowkey epic. Not epic enough to remember its name but regardless Czechvision or whatever marked the end of an era because it was also the last selection spearheaded by Jan Bors :o

I think I’ve made it clear enough in the past that I’m somewhat mixed on Bors Era Czechia - Lake Malawi were a toetapping good, Ickolas was a pockmarked, skin-crawling evil and the other three inhibit a purgatory somewhere between “moderately nice” and “moderate timewaste.”

Still, I have great respect for the man who orchestrated Czech’s comeback after scoring NINE POINTS TOTAL across three years with the mindset of “So what? Why says we can’t win?” so ofc I was all into the idea of the “EIGHT INDIE ANGELS, HAND-PICKED BY BORS HIMSELF” NF that would serve as his swan song.

Naturally things went down the drain the second Bors left, with one of the eight peacing and his successor cancelling the live broadcast (does anyone remember what exactly happened? I vaguely recall one was the cause of the other but lol it’s July can’t be bothered to factscheck (Factsczeck?) anymore, bitches.

Anyway, ON TO THE GOOD STUFF, and yes, there was plenty.

We All Poop - “ All the Blood (Positive Song Actually)”

Yes, as you can imagine I ofc IMMEDIATELY fell into like when I saw that chyron and invisioned the inevitability of the Czech Rep’s Rep immediately alienating every parent just based on their name alone <3 😍 w/e WAP quickly became that “Good but not great” song you find in every NF that everyone gushes over because it’s the whitest option available. Like, yes, “All the blood” is good, but musically it’s identical to Green Day and Twenty-One Pilots and god name ANY 90s-early00′s American Punk Rock band. For me the enjoyment came from the fact that WAP were openly crazy vegan fundamentalists and the VC clip actively condemns the use ANY animal protein by replacing the cattle and game with LITERAL HUMAN BEINGS. 😍 :fusedmarcintensifies: :kasiamosage:

Pam Rabbit - “Get up”

Ohhhh YES a glorious experimental Synth-Trap song only I could love and ofc I did. God what is there even to say; the provocative darkness of the verses combined with the swirling amorphousness of the chorus gives me LIFE. LUFF THIS SHIT <3333 Ftr, this was also the fave of Slovene Juror duo / synth angels / Boris faves ZALAGASPER, further proving their pathetic naysayers that they own all things music and the haters can suck a series of-

Barbora Mochowa - “White and Black Holes“

Lol, yes even with a “Get up” existing, there was a song I liked even more. Barbora proved a very competent Lana del Gay last year, but I was a YUGE fan of this year’s... Kate Bush-Björk blend of ethereal awesome. It is so soothingly beautiful and the rare example of a song that I find completely free of flaws. Were the competition not such a hard place, I’d be pissed she didnt win (at least she won the jury vote MASSIVE KUDOS to every alum on that) but w/e this selection had opions and I’m rather robbed of a “Kemama” than I am of a BRILLIANT IRREPLICABLE AETHERBALLAD. ~Danse balance sûr les white and black holes~

Elis Mraz & Cis T - “Wanna be like”

I *VERY* strongly felt that if the Czech Republic wanted to win ESC, they should have picked Elis and even now I STILL believe she could have won. That isn’t to say I gushed over “Wanna be like” because I find it kind of annoying lol. Yes, I LOVE an annoying female voice (:Tones&Icackle:) but Elis’s reaches a Camilla Cabello sort of place for me (good lord get Senorita OFF the fucking radio) and the Scat + White Guy Rapping middle-eight. 😬. However, the second I opened up the video clip for this paragraph and was immediately BLASTED by Elis murdering a ukelele and wearing a  “schoolgirl” outfit straight from a Japanese tentacle porn movie and OH MY GOD THE AGGRESSIVE TWERKING made me reconsider that hey, this min-sized Meghan Traynor actually kinda highkey owns, yo!  Yet, I’m not at all bothered we lost her in the Czech NF because we got UNO DOS QUATRO CINCO SEIS :fatmansplit: fill up the megameme slot instead, so...

Eurovision 2020 vs Eurovision 2021

BENNY RUINED HIS SONG AND NEVER WOULD HAVE QUALIFIED. jk I’m not a moron. Sure, “Kemama” wasn’t an easy sell because you know AFROBEAT in a contest where half of the people watching are fash (ie: all of Eastern Europe, who watch out of ~Nationalistic Sentiment~ 😬), but there are Kemama live renditions out there and he owns them SO hard lol. A few soundmixing issues really would not have stopped Benny from qualifying in that RIDICULOUSLY WEAKSAUCE SEMIFINAL are you fucking kidding me. He probably would’ve bombed in the Grand Final, but I mean it’s Czech and it’s not Ickolas so ofc it would have.

And Czech renewed him for 2021 regardless of the sceptics, woohoo! I think part of it was due the Czech not wanting to re-organize an ENTIRE NF from scratch without Jan Bors, but probably also because Benny owns live when he isn’t engaged in psychological trench warfare with actual human detritus <3 and also because the Czech fucking CARE about their artists and don’t drop them like a sack of rotten potatoes wtfshitprus.

Can’t wait for the moment when he qualifies and Efendi does not, etc, etc. 

FREAKY! FRIDAY! FACTOR!

I’d say that the core around which the Ben Drama spun was pretty standard fare: niche fave beats out the concensus fave, meltdowns ensue, people convince themselves it was the WRONG decision because it wasn the result they wanted, try to disown the song and make a fool of themselves because the song slaps, sorry. Even the revamp drama felt more of less generic for me, because yawn fantards melting down over a revamp of a song they don’t even like what else is new.  

However, what I do take away that the revamp was ENTIRELY Benny’s idea which he told no one about (cue to JAN BORS having a social media meltdown like he’s Caesar at the Ides of March 💔) added MORE afrobeat just to troll his haters even more <3  God, I’d say it was bad from a musical perspective but this level of in-your-face defiance is fucking iconic and hilarious, sorry. This entire this year is so batshit bonkers that the concept of a someone potentially shooting themselves in the foot and “torpedo’ing” their qualification chances  (not rly, he would’ve Q’d anyway lol) JUST to take the moral high ground in a racially coded argument only HE took seriously may not even be the craziest concept in the year! (lol it definitely isn’t. Look at the pics I haven’t greyed out yet)

Does anyone have an empty, old Twitter account I can adopt FUCKING URGENT

Please, god. I just had the worst conversation with my mother, we don’t have the best relationship. Things went from me admitting I’d heard about JK Rowling’s twitter comments, to my mom being upset that I didn’t tell her I used twitter, to her wanting to know what my account is, to asking why I wouldn’t tell her (there’s fandom and fanfic on there, it’s none of her fucking business) and the only excuse I could come up with is that there were NSFW pictures on there. 

She and I don’t talk about sex ever so it turned into a discussion of my sexual history and why I don’t share that with her, and why I don’t share anything with her, and now she is upset because I’m keeping secrets from her, like everyone in her life lies to her or makes her feel worthless, and she doesn’t trust me. She wonders if I have a secret life, and what it is? What kind of freak am I? BECAUSE I DIDN’T TELL HER MY TWITTER JESUS CHRIST 

I have spent many years of my life trying to tell her as little as possible about my life because she can be very overreactive. Flies off the handle at little provacation, I have many memories of her crying and screaming. Also, in a more private sense, ofc I will not show my mom nsfw anime art, fanfiction, fandom shit, private shit holy god, and I could hardly verbally defend that so I didn’t. She was crying about the many people in her life that have kept secrets and lied to her and why do her kids do that to her worst of all and I couldn’t answer. She briefly asked if I am lesbian or into bestiality or “chains” and told me porn is not realistic and then sounded so dead inside...she is not supposed to sound like that like a zombie it was surreal and almost vomit inducing. 

Our relationship is trashed now because of fucking twitter and me not sharing my twitter with my mother. 

What I need is an account actually 2+ years old like I told her. And I can fill it with anime bullshit and...pictures of male models. Frankly I wanted her to believe I was ace, which is probably true but that alone makes me not want to tell her. And now I have this new lie going than I'm a regular cishet gal and I don't like that either. Coming totally clean to her is not an option. To her? No. No.

Jesus fuck this is asinine. I’m a grown ass woman and my hands are shaking from this. I’m ashamed and humiliated and scared. I have to go visit her tomorrow. I offered to visit before the conversation took a dive and she wanted to call it off which she NEVER EVER does, she is always desperate to hang out with me, so I felt I had to see her or it would just make this divide bigger and worse.

EDIT, 3 HOURS LATER: a friend gave me an old twitter account they haven’t used since 2010. I’m scavenging it and will pretend I made it for a project in high school, forgot about it, and began using it about 2 years ago as I told my mother. I’m currently in the process of filling it with old tweets and likes using twitter’s advanced search, with some safe accounts I actually follow and sprinkling in the odd dick pic I can find. I will use this account as my shield if I have to. I’m scared of tomorrow. Maybe it won’t be much and she’ll continue to act dead and limp and “betrayed”. Maybe it will be a screaming fight where she once again says I’m not her daughter and she doesn’t know who I am anymore. I can’t think about it.

1. What is one book you’d recommend to everyone and why?

I’d probably go with The Book Thief, by Markus Zusak. I think it was extremely well written, and it sends you down a rollercoaster of emotions that I think everyone should have while reading a book once in their lives

2. If your life was a movie which genre would it be?

Very much probably a dramedy

3. What is your most cherished memory from high school?

My school has mock tests pretty much every weekend so we can prepare for our college entrance exam. The maths & science mock is known to be very brutal, which means most of the students will stay in the exam room for 5h, the total exam time. Afterwards we were all brain fried and hungry so me and a couple friends started the tradition of going to the nearby McDonald’s to eat and discuss questions/grade our mocks and it was always so much fun, I really miss it

4. What is the weirdest experience of your life?

Probably leaving the country without my wallet and having no cash and no cards on me. Oops!

5. What were your plans for your future when you were young?

Oh this is a fun one. When I was 11 I was completely sure I was going to study Creative Writing in the University of Westminster. Look what my career aspirations are now lol

Book Review #1 | Carry On by Rainbow Rowell

“Half the time, Simon can’t even make his wand work, and the other half, he sets something on fire. His mentor’s avoiding him, his girlfriend broke up with him, and there’s a magic-eating monster running around wearing Simon’s face. Baz would be having a field day with all this, if he were here—it’s their last year at the Watford School of Magicks, and Simon’s infuriating nemesis didn’t even bother to show up.” [official synopsis of the book]

Full title: “Carry On: The rise and Fall of Simon Snow.”

Or, as I often refer to it, the death of me.

I can already hear my friend A. complaining that I read this book at least twice a year – which is odd, I get it, but I also can't help it. She says that I'm obsessed with it...

... She’s right. But there's a reason if the motto of my brand new blog is "H for Honesty", so I promise that I won't let my obsession take over the review. Scout's honor!

Anyway, we have to straighten some things out before we settle down to work, since I know that there are people out there who are not appealed by this book because of its similiarities with the Harry Potter Saga.

The Chosen One and the prophecy themes, the analogies between characters such as Penelope Bunch and Hermione Granger, the Drarry vibes, the English school of magic...

So if you want to complain about these similiarities, then stop reading, watching tv shows and movies or even breathing because, guess what?, it's literally impossible not to be influenced by others, especially if you are a writer.

I think that inspiration is good; it means that you've reached the heart of your readers and left a permanent mark on it. As a wanna-be writer I can only aspire to do such a great thing as inspiring someone to the point that they want to share their own stories.

Speaking of Rainbow Rowell being inspired by Jk Rowling, well, it doesn't mean that she plagiarised her work – far from it. Rainbow's World of Mages is something fresh, modern, unexplored. It has cliches just like any other great story, but instead of running in circles it goes beyond them.

This is why the first character I want to introduce is Agatha Wellbelove, who’s supposed to play the role of the protagonist’s love interest. I’m gonna be honest with you guys – I didin’t like her at first, like not at all.

It’s hard to explain without spoiling the book but I’ll try my best, alright?

Agatha is the only daughter of one of the richest and most important families of the world of mages. Her father is a doctor and her mother is very invested in the social part of their community, hence the charity works such as having poor, orphan Simon stay at their house during Christmas break.

Beautiful, popular, kind. She had to be all these things for her whole life because everything had already been set up for her. Even her relationship with Simon was inevitable. I know it’s silly but think of Shrek: like Fiona, she had to play the role of the damsel in distress locked in the highest tower of the castle, awaiting for her knight in his shiny armour... only to be his reward at the end of the story, when the magical war is over... if he manages to survive.

But Agatha is more than that.

“Lucy disappeared?” I say.

“Worse,” Mum says. “She ran away. From magic. Can you imagine?”

“Yes,” I say, then, “no.”

She wants to spend time with her normal friends, go to a normal school, be a normal person without the burden of magic on her shoulders. But she can’t, of course, because everyone would think that she’s insane, so she’s stuck in a world where she doesn’t belong.

Magic is a religion.

But there’s no such thing as not believing – or only going through the motions on Easter and Christmas. Your whole life has to revolve around magic all the time. If you’re born with magic, you’re stuck with it, and you’re stuck with other magicians, and you’re stuck with wars that never end because people don’t even know when they started.

I honestly didn’t understand her character at first, because c’mon, if someone came to me and told me that I could attend Hogwarts/Watford and have magical powers if I wanted, I wouldn’t even hesitate to answer hell, yeah. But this is another matter, ofc.

The point is that Rainbow Rowell’s characters are what I’d like (and dare) to define «the apotheosis of relatability». They are not just fictional characters. When they think, when they talk, when they act... they seem extremely human in my head, they seem to bloody exist, as if they weren’t made of paper...

I think that this effect is mostly due the fact that the book was written in first person singular. Yeah, I know that most people avoid this type of point of view like the plague, but believe me when I say that Carry on is 100% worth it.

Every chapter mirrors the thoughts of the main characters, from Simon’s to the Mage’s, and is shaped by them. For instance:

When Simon is talking, his words are articulated in short and/or mostly broken sentences.

He doesn’t reply – he must still be working up to a bluster.

Snow blusters like no one else. But! I mean! Um! It’s just! It’s no wonder he can never spit out a spell.

When he’s thinking, the pages are filled with long and elaborated phrases, which can be seen especially in the first chapters of the book;

Baz, on the other hand, has the opposite problem. He comes up with the most complex sentences when he’s speaking, while his thoughts are often interrupted by the use of round brakets, which is undoubtedly of my favourite features of his chapters.

So even though he seems this cool and charming and extremely confident and super duper talented and handsome magician, this is just his façade. In reality, he’s the type of guy who would rather be alone during meals because he’s too self-conscious and doesn’t want his family to see the fangs that come through when he’s eating.

It’s no secret that Baz is very secretive when it comes to his feelings or anything that concerns his private sphere, as he always weighs his words before he speaks up. But when the crosstalk is between him and Simon, there’s literally nothing in the world that Baz loves more than teasing him.

“I know what you are,” I snarled.

His eyes locked onto mine. “Your roommate?”

I shook my head and squeezed the hilt of my sword.

Baz stepped into my reach. “Tell me,” he spat.

I couldn’t.

“Tell me, Snow.” He stepped even closer. “What am I?”

I growled again and raised the blade an inch. “Vampire! I shouted. He must have felt the force of my breath on his face.

He started giggling. “Really? You think I’m a vampire? Well, Aleister Crowley, what are you going to do about that?”

I love the dynamics between Baz and Simon because their relationship is so genuine and thriving, absolutely compelling. You can see the deep impact that they have on each other from page one. Yes, they are roommates (oh my god, they are roommates), but they are enemies too, so they don’t really know how to deal with each other beyond their rivalry, especially when they have to team up against a common enemy.

These dynamics are way funnier when you consider that they concern a third character too. Yes, this is the moment I introduce you to the person that was recently hospitalized due to severe back pains caused by the burden of carrying Simon Snow’s bullshit on her shoulders from day one: Penelope Bunce.

She told me later that her parents had told her to steer clear of me at school. “My mum said that nobody really knew where you came from. And that you might be dangerous.”

“Why didn’t you listen to her?” I asked.

“Because nobody knew where you came from, Simon! And you might be dangerous!”

“You have the worst survival instincts.”

“Also, I felt sorry for you,” she said. “You were holding your hand backwards.”

As you can see, I love Penny. She’s clever, she’s talented, she’s this amazing young woman who is not afraid to walk with you toward eternal damnation or help you hide a corpse or do both at the same time. Because she’s all that – and more than that. She’s everything.

Penny is the kind of person who, right after you say that “curiosity killed the cat”, would rejoin that “satisfaction brought it back”. She is exactly the character that I needed as a role model during both my childhood and my adolescence: stubborn, curious, terribly ambitious... For some time I had been convinced that these were negative traits, but it’s mostly thanks to Penny that I’ve started to realise that they are good qualities instead.

I see a lot of myself in Penelope, and I could never thank Rainbow Rowell enough for creating her characters.

I could never thank Rainbow enough for writing about this amazing world and sharing it with us. And I will never stop thanking her for deciding to give us a sequel, Wayward son.

Opinions on Snape discourse. I was never really all that invested in HP beyond in passing but honestly on both sides I feel people go way to far. What's your take on the Snape issue?

basically yes, i’m with you: both sides go way too far

the anti-snape faction just doesn’t understand why jk rowling would make this guy a “hero” or why harry would have any positive feelings about him post-DH. snape, ofc, is more of an antihero, but i think ppl don’t understand that snape’s redemption is more about harry than about lilly. and hence, it’s harry’s story more than his. 

snape initially asked voldemort to spare lilly, but he was ok with other wizards and witches dying. afterwards, snape regretted his allegiance to voldemort but he mostly lamented it because it ended with lilly’s demise. he was an ex-death eater but not a reformed ex-death eater. it took him 17 years and finding out from dumbledore that harry is a horcrux to realize that the only way to really honor lilly’s memory and his love for her is to protect harry. and i think that ultimately learning to let go of his hatred of james and see harry as a separate, worthy person is part of his journey. he doesn’t quite get there, jk rowling makes him both succeed and fail in many ways. so for instance, he never comes to love harry, but i think that as he’s dying, he doesn’t ask to look into his eyes just so he can see lilly. i think it’s the first time he is seeing harry too. 

harry then naming one of his children after him is a sign that he understood and has forgiven snape. it’s more about harry healing himself and the generation before him than about woobifying snape. i’m glad that jk rowling wrote him with all his foibles to show that even at our worst we can do some good. 

on the other side of the fence, the “snape wives” and other super-fans of snape who claim he was wronged and deserves everyone’s respect because he suffered™ so much and the marauders are the real villains…..those folks are also wrong. snape is a bully, a not-so-competent teacher (even though he’s brilliant) and a pretty vindictive guy. we understand why he’s like this, but we shouldn’t excuse his actions. i think it would be a disservice to the character to reduce him to Bad Childhood Girlfriend Rejected Me guy. it would really deny his complexity and his agency to say that everything he did was because james was mean to him. he was genuinely drawn to the dark arts and he thirsted for knowledge and power, not only because his muggle dad was a prick. he has capacity for good, but he also has capacity for bad. i’m pretty sure even if he had ended up with lilly, he wouldn’t have been “fixed”. he probably would’ve been less of an asshole and more of a grump at hogwarts, but the basic tenets of his personality are there/would’ve been roughly the same. i guess when people decide to “stan” a character, they can’t stand for that character to be even remotely blemished or painfully human. 

so yes, that’s my take on snape discourse. the fact that he engenders so many conflicting opinions means he’s a pretty well-realized literary character.

(oh, and before i get asks about this - the marauders are plenty flawed and unlikable, and i personally can’t stand those kids, but to say they are to blame for eeeeverything that went wrong in snape’s life….? calm down. in FACT, the great irony is that the marauders and snape have a lot in common. all of these boys struggle with what it means to be good and do good and it’s telling that the factions in the fandom are split so heavily on the issue of the marauders/snape)

Surprisingly snarky, like once you get to know them thats their Main Method of Communication (*despite what Mercury they are, thats what they show to OTHER people)

Either they’ll get into a Fandom (and love it so much) or become a menacing Meme Machine, either way they can’t stop won’t stop. 

Will try to communicate with you using their interests (your shared interests) – jargons and the ‘culture’ will seep into them, but at the same time they’re just Big Nerds. 

If they’re into memes, they will definitely call you out for recycling old memes, but they themselves are the Real Culprit of doing that (and will buy you cute meme gifts they think you’ll enjoy– sharing the experience together). 

Insightful thoughts, broad and often selective in what they consume from others. 

Kind of like ‘yeah I’m really into Harry Potter but some of the stuff JK rowling did I definitely don’t agree with. I just wish she wouldn’t have done that.’

They have their own opinions on a lot of things, but they don’t really feel the need (maybe nervousness) to voice it out first.

Doesn’t like being pushed, or forced or stressed. They don’t cope well with that because they have their OWN needs/demands to go through. 

One of the most accepting people to others, because they have to go develop their self-acceptance themselves. 

Romantic at heart, if they’re into reading/poetry they will try to write their own as well. 

Usually, lets other people state stronger opinion first. And they’ll either agree with or give you a disgruntled face if they don’t agree. 

Surprisingly mild mannered to others, but not to themselves. Might ask themselves ‘why?’ a lot, like ‘why did I do that? why did I do this?’ in their lowest, they might ask ‘why am i like this?’ but let’s hope they don’t get there. 

Communicate visually, like show you a video/picture or leaves you text/letters/stuff. 

Is there for others, they’re the type of people who would make themselves available for others to schedule a hang out with or let others know they’re in the area (*if the other person is terrible at leaving the house/isolating themselves. The Pisces/Capricorn will take the initiative to make themselves avaliable for hang outs together)

Quiet time together is quality time. You don’t have to talk all the time, sometimes sharing the same table reading books and occasionally making quirky eye-brows and quips is good enough.   

Procrastinate stress/work by lying in bed looking at the ceiling (*if they talk through it, it tends to help them) 

Most likely, you’ll have a Pisces/Capricorn friend who has shown you the Best (Worst) Meme/Video ever so that you can have it seared into your  eyes/mind even when you sleep. To think of them when you’re not together. 

Pain should be Felt Together so that They Can Complain about it Without Feeling Bad. 

If they’re ill, and their body feels like it’s out to kill them. Their melodramatic suffering increases by 3x (although they’ll be like ‘shrug its ok’) 

The first one to offer an ‘I’m sorry :(’ and sympathizes with you, they are There for you but they Will Not Solve Your Problems for You (*depends on other placements too, but they’re terrible enough on their own as it is they dont know how to actually help you if you don’t Self-Realize yourself)

born into the blood purist rowle family, he is the first born of thorfinn rowle and social climber adair rowle née cavendish and little did they know they were going to produce actual satan as a child

he is such a mummy’s boy, his family is extremely close, though archibald has always been more distant from his father, the social outcast of the family, adair only marrying him for his money and his name, a twenty year age difference between his parents. however, adair is an extremely caring mother and loves both archie and his sister, margaery with her whole heart and being an incredibly ambitious woman wants the best for not only herself, but her children first

thus, both archie and maggie were brought up on a silver spoon --- nothing but the best since they were children. this attitude still very prominent at this time in their lives and it fits in nicely with the clichéd pureblood rich kid

he loves his sister more than anything, incredibly overprotective, perhaps definitely bordering on too overprotective. maggie will always be his baby sister and anybody who hurts her will not only have her to deal with, but him too. despite this and their similarities, they bicker and fight constantly

I am a grown woman and my mother thinks I have a secret double life because I wouldn't share my nsfw fandom/fanfic twitter with her. Does anyone have an empty twitter account I can "Adopt"?

I know this is barely related. But I have to try. I am desperate.

TL;DR is I'm a 25F woman with a difficult and rather clingy mother. I also am the type of person that reads nsfw fanfiction from time to time. In trying to keep my mom from seeing an account where I retweet nsfw anime art, I "admitted" I didn't want to share my twitter because I retweet "pictures of male models and porn" there and I didn't want her to see that. Shit SPIRALED.We don't have the best relationship.

Things went from me admitting I’d heard about JK Rowling’s twitter comments, to my mom being upset that I didn’t tell her I used twitter, to her wanting to know what my account is, to asking why I wouldn’t tell her (there’s fandom and fanfic on there, private hobbies, it’s none of her fucking business) and the only excuse I could come up with is that there were NSFW pictures on there (real photos of guys, not the anime art nonsense that actually is there). I tried to just refuse to tell her the account and she kept pressing and accusing me of hiding something so that male model nonsense was my shit excuse. I would be hard-pressed to find such a thing on twitter but now I like, have to.

She and I don’t talk about sex ever so once I "admitted" that, it turned into a discussion of my sexual history and I had to straight up admit I am a virgin to her, when I never wanted her to know that, it's none of her business. She said it makes sense because when I was young I "wore ugly clothes" and she always thought I was a lesbian and that hurt my feelings. She bemoaned why I don’t share anything with her, and now she is upset because I’m keeping secrets from her, like everyone in her life lies or makes her feel worthless, and she doesn’t trust me. She wonders if I have a secret life, and what it is? What kind of freak am I? BECAUSE I DIDN'T TELL HER MY TWITTER! JESUS CHRIST

I have spent many years of my life trying to tell her as little as possible about my life because she can be very overreactive. Flies off the handle at little provacation, I have many memories of her crying and screaming at small things. Also, in a more private sense, ofc I will not show my mom nsfw anime art, fanfiction, fandom shit, private venting shit holy god, and I could hardly verbally defend that so I didn’t. She was crying about the many people in her life that have kept secrets and lied to her and why do her kids do that to her worst of all and I couldn’t answer. She briefly asked if I am lesbian or into bestiality or “chains” and told me porn is not realistic and then sounded so dead inside…she is not supposed to sound like that like a zombie it was surreal and almost vomit inducing.

Our relationship is trashed now because of fucking twitter and me not sharing my twitter with my mother. She said she wouldn't even look it up but I'm so scared now I feel the need to build a dummy account to protect myself. I just made a fake one and made it private. But it says created June 2020! I need an old one!

What I need is an account actually 2+ years old like I told her. And I can fill it with anime bullshit and...pictures of male models. Frankly I wanted her to believe I was ace, whether I turned out to be or not, now I have this new lie going than I'm a regular cishet gal and I don't like that either. Coming totally clean to her is not an option either. To her? No. No.

Jesus fuck this is asinine. I’m a grown ass woman and my hands are shaking from this. I’m ashamed and humiliated and scared. I have to go visit her tomorrow. I offered to visit before the conversation took a dive and she wanted to call it off which she NEVER EVER does, she is always desperate to hang out with me, so I felt I had to see her or it would just make this divide bigger and worst.

Christ I want to cry. I never wanted her to know these things, not even these weird half-truths, I hate this ugly shitty relationship and I just want a dummy twitter to hide in front of because FUCK if I'm going to give her my real one. I know every minute of this night she's going to be crying and thinking of how I "betrayed" her with this "lie" and the insane sexual deviancy I must be getting up to on twitter.

(PS when people post on here "do you tell your parents/family that you write fanfiction" I just scream inside)

hmmm I reread like half of Graceling, and it’s as good as ever and I’m still bitter that Kristen Cashore hasn’t written anything since the series. it’s YA but also Monster novel TM and so thought provoking

A Hero At The End of the World. I agree with most of the review about it-- it’s very evident the author comes from a fanfic background bc writing fic is very different from novels and there’s some things that don’t translate (character development? relationship development?) if you read the book with the knowledge that its essentially drarry fanfic it makes sense, as its own novel there’s a lot rushed

i luv the movie ofc, it’s gorgoeus in all ways and delightful but not gonna lie the story telling is not very good and it sorta makes no sense until u read the book. don’t like the witch of the waste plot and howl becomes much too mysterious wizard for my tastes

SOPHIE AND HOWL ARE THE DELIGHT OF THIS BOOK, their characters are what makes it tbh, Book Howl is the best howl bc he’s ridiculous and hilarious and a coward and i luv it. sophie is less of a mouse (even tho she still thinks she is ahaha) and the part where she’s so pissed off she turns water into weedkiller is my fav. it’s also just a complete subversion fo fantasy which i think miyazaki sorta doesn’t get

1. If you could be another person, who would you like to be?  I’ve never really thought about it..hmm, I guess just some random celebrity (maybe a hollywood actress or a singer idk) just to live the life of the rich and beautifull people for one day ;D 

2. Do you remember the first time you watched your favorite team? (At home, in the stadium,…) The first time I watched Germany play was in the first game of the WC 2006 on tv (public viewing probably??) and bayern was on tv as well, I just can’t remember when it was probably around 2008 or sth like that :) the first time in the stadium was 2009 in Bremen! 

3. What would you like to learn?  Oh my god, so many things but I would really like to have a british accent as you know (like a perfect one I don’t have to force) I‘m obsessed with it :p I would also like to learn tennis or some other sport, I guess (I wanted to give a deeper answer but couldn’t think of one upps) 

4. What do you think of if you hear the word “freedom” or happiness”? Freedom: Idk why but I think of impressive landscapes...when you stand there and look at it and you’re just like wow, our planet is so beautiful... happiness: I think of my friends, of dancing, of music, of travelling and of my boys ofc ;) 

5. What’s your biggest wish? Reaching my biggest dreams 

6. What would you change in your life if you could? Sorry that’s a bit too personal for me to post it here :x 

7. What are you interessed in (history, sport, languages, music,…)? I’m interested in football (obviosly), in poetry/literature, in politics...and many other things :D 

8. Would be rather have vacations in a big city, at the mountains or the beach? Or even somewhere else? In a big city bc I love the variety of the different activities you can do there and you always meet interesting people and some big cities have a beach too (like Barcelona for example ;p)

9. What’s your favorite music kind/song? I don’t have a special genre I love most, I actually listen to many different types of music :D My favourite song atm is Chasing Cars by Snow Patrol 

10. Who would do want to meet one day? JK Rowling, she’s just an amazing woman and I would really love to talk about Harry Potter with her and thank her for what she did to my childhood :)
