so what i'm putting together from osmosis and the wonderful livebloggers and the incredible arkanis english updates account is something like this
Prefeito Jota: Hello, I'd like to hire you to investigate what happened in my city/island(?)!
Bagi, who was previously "invited" to a mysterious island/city by its elected official, subsequently trapped on the mysterious island/city, investigated the deep mysterious history of the island/city, came to no conclusions, found her brother after years of searching, was separated once again from her brother, gained and lost an adopted daughter (possibly to being kidnapped by the island government, which was evil), gained and lost a demon fiancée (possibly to being dragged back to hell, so there's no way to find her), gained and lost a close demon friend to dubious circumstance (did he die for his children? is he with skeppy in the gas station?), and has had an unknown amount of time to process and/or suppress all of this: Sure! :D
#ah shit now i gotta tag this#arkanis#qsmp#qsmp bagi#q!bagi#long tags#hopefully that covers it for people who don't care abt the lore tie-ins; i think they'll be able to filter this post#this is mostly a qsmp post so i hope you are able to filter it at your leisure :)#i try very hard not to bug have a good week :D#shut up vic#block game brainrot#is valigma an island or a city i'm unclear on this#or is it a city that's on an island#is there an island??? there's not. there is. where were they travelling. there was a boat i know that#fe//lps crashed the boat there's gotta be a port somehwere close by#but it could just be a port city.... is it an island??#brother i'm cooked i don't speak portuguese and i work during the streams.... cognates save me....... save me cognates.........#the name of my tiktok collection for qsmp is 'context clues only' bc i was determined to follow its story through only osmosis.#i was wrong about that one but. welcome back context clues only.#idk anyway hopefully this post can be filtered by people in either fandom who don't care abt crossover lollll 😭#look q!bagi has every reason to distrust elected officials that try to invite her places#last time it happened it was a bona fide second location.#it's kinda wild she was willing to do it again lmao#do you think she got the request and idly wondered how long she was gonna be stuck this time#we kinda had to skim over that aspect of q!bagi's arrival bc of the weird meta parts of the presidential invitation#but iirc the qsmp president inviting her was canon. which is WILD lmfaooo#and also how she was fiancées with tina (a demon) and friends with bad (a demon) and coparents with mouse (a demon)#and then she gets invited and comes to valigma and she's probably already got insane déjà vu and then BOOM. matt.#like i'm not cc!bagi so i don't know but i didn't read q!bagi as someone who just. moved on.#i don't think she would process the events of quesadilla island i think it's more likely she suppressed it. really really well.

Something I’ve been thinking about a lot is how Jowd and Yomiel are parallel to each other. They’re both so stuck in worldviews that are blatantly wrong- Jowd thinking everything is his fault, and Yomiel thinking everything is the fault of everyone BUT him. To an outside observer, both these views are totally stupid, but the two of them feel like they HAVE to believe it or else everything they’re doing will be for nothing. If jowd is wrong, that means kamila did it, and he can’t let himself believe his kid could do that, it would destroy him. He’s so willing to take on the guilt because he feels responsible for not stopping the tragedy- even when it was literally impossible for him to foresee or stop. If Yomiel is wrong, then it means that literally everything he’s been doing since dying is useless and he’s the one responsible for the deaths of both Sissels, and he can’t believe that or he’ll sink even further down. So the two of them both push on, warping the truth until it suits their narratives, both of which are steeped in self-hatred. It’s a good thing they never met up before their respective character developments- like Yomiel said, Jowd would have loved to be executed by his own daughter. Sorry for talking so much I just think they’re fascinating!!! I love ghost trick!!!
No need to apologize, I love hearing other people's Ghost Trick takes/analysis! Especially along these lines!
This specific parallel is def one I've thought about too, and you put it very well! For me, it all comes back to the set of questions I posed in this post as being at the core of Ghost Trick's story:
1. When something terrible happens to you, what do you do with that trauma? 2. When you do something terrible, when you make a terrible mistake, what do you do with that guilt?
Like you said, Jowd is a person who, in response to both questions, internalizes all the blame; whereas Yomiel, in response to both (pre Chapter 17), externalizes all his hatred. And yes, from an outside perspective they're kind of ridiculous — just look at how many chatters in the secret sleepover society streams (and other lps I've watched) have been reacting to Jowd as a character.
But one of the things fiction arguably exists for is to present characters that take such ideas to such extremes for the sake of exploring those questions and making a greater point; it's the premise "What if there was guy who ___? Wouldn't that be fucked up or what?". And for me (and a lot of people, clearly) Ghost Trick succeeds in getting you to take those characters seriously, because they and the people around them take their own stakes seriously, while ultimately making it clear that their responses were irrational.
...And hey, while I'm here:
Cabanela's answer to the second question is to bury all evidence of it, to Not Think About It, to become (or at least project the image of) a person who would never make that kind of mistake. Meanwhile, his answer to the first question, if we say the terrible thing in question is his best friend confessing to killing his wife and asking to be executed, is to dedicate himself to trying to undo it, to set things right, everything else in his life be damned.
These answers are "better" than Jowd's and Yomiel's — they certainly cause less extreme collateral damage — but they still aren't ideal. After all, Ghost Trick is a game that highly values the forging/maintaining of bonds with others and being honest/open with them as the key to both parties' success. It's what saves the day in the end. Without Sissel, all Cabanela's efforts to save Jowd and protect Lynne would have amounted to nothing.
No, the person with the "correct" answer is Lynne. She doesn't really have to grapple with the second question (which is maybe my personal biggest disappointment with her character), but her answer to the first question is clear: Become the kind of person who prevents such things from happening to others, or who can be the one to help them when it does. Always believe in people, and in the ability of things to turn out right.
Now, it must be said: the reason she comes to this answer is not because she was born a perfect idealist. It's because, in that worst moment of her life, someone was there to save and then reassure her; to inspire her. Jowd.
It's her truth, but it's not, say, Yomiel's.
But. It's a truth that inspires the rest of the cast (Sissel and Jowd primarily). And, because of her insistence in it, they're able to go back, defy fate, and make it The Truth of the narrative.
(Sissel similarly only has to really deal with the first question because Reasons, and his answer evolves over the course of the game, from "focus on the wrong that was done to you and what you can do to make yourself feel better about it above everything and everyone else" (doesn't that sound familiar?) to be more aligned with Lynne: "use what you learned/gained from that unfortunate occurrence to help others". And Missile is basically on the "right" wavelength the whole time, which is why everyone agrees he's the Bestest Boy.)
#ghost trick#ghost trick: phantom detective#ghost trick spoilers#yomiel#jowd#cabanela#lynne#sissel#missile#ask time!#analysis#tl;dr all the main characters in ghost trick have a unique perspective on (at least one of) these 2 questions that make up the game's core#and their answers illuminate the Game's perspective from different angles#it's so cool! and so good!

Ashes of Panem
Part 2
Paring: (young) Coriolanus x Reader
Word count: 2.2k
Summary: Coriolanus Snow and Y/N Ashcroft had trained together since their entry into the academy. However, when their names were drawn, they found themselves pitted against each other and twenty other children in these games. As Y/N became a symbol of rebellion akin to her great grandmother, who vanished shortly after Panem's liberation, the looming threats of war and the approaching games forced Coriolanus and Y/N to forge an alliance. Amidst these challenges, they had to learn to trust and support one another in order to break free from Coin's oppressive regime.
Warnings: Mentions of violence and death, a little bit suggestive (or I'm just delusional)
A/N: After reading "Leveling the Playing Field" by @runningfrom2am and gearing up to watch "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" for the second time, alongside binge-watching the entire Hunger Games series, I've found myself inspired to contribute to the delusoins I have about this man (within reasonable bounds).
Since the fall of the Capitol and the rebirth of Panem, things have taken a different turn. Many argue it was a necessary change, considering President Snow's detrimental governance of Panem. The rebellion spearheaded by a young girl named Katniss Everdeen led to his downfall, paving the way for President Coin to assume control. Coin introduced a chilling policy: the perpetual punishment of the children of Capitol officials, game makers, and peacemakers would annually participate in what she dubbed "The Capitol Games."
The name seemed ironic, given its stark resemblance to the Hunger Games, where a male and a female from each district fought for survival. However, the stark contrast lay in the fact that these children from the Capitol had grown up studying side by side, some even as friends or lovers. It was this dynamic that made these games all the more intriguing – friends turning against each other in a ruthless battle for survival.
Your knowledge about your great-grandmother was limited, as your mother voiced her distaste of her views and didn't wish to pass them to you. All you knew was her significant role in the rebellion, bearing the symbol of the Mockingjay. Your mother had cursed you the moment she married a child of a Capitol official, driven by her craving to rebel and show her stance agsinst her grandmother and what she fought for. New Panem seemed to reflect a haunting echo of the past, a cycle no one dared to acknowledge.
Snatching your book bag from the desk, you adjusted your skirt and slipped on the uniform jacket. "Y/N, it’s time to leave; you’re going to be late!" your mother's voice echoed. A woman driven by material desires had cursed her own daughter, never once expressing remorse. At times, you wondered if she was deliberate in her actions, perhaps aiming to make your father suffer, for you were his innocent child, bearing the consequences of his grandfather's misdeeds.
You never quite understood how your father managed to maintain the acceptance for the punishments that generations to come had to face, but in a realm where anything seemed plausible, you had long ceased questioning such matters. Stepping out of your room, you descended the stairs and paused at the dining room to plant a tender kiss on your father's cheek.
"I’ll be home late tonight; we have combat evaluation tomorrow, and I want to squeeze in more training beforehand," you whispered softly, gently squeezing his shoulder.
Your father harbored a disdain for how the Coin family structured the lives of the children in the Capitol. All of them were compelled to attend the Panem Training Academy, a calculated initiative aimed at grooming Capitol youths for the games, enhancing the spectacle of the impending fights. The academy produced skilled fighters who were well-versed in each other's combat techniques, adept at camouflage, and proficient in hunting, far surpassing the capabilities seen in the Hunger Games. It was a gruesome spectacle, yet simultaneously enthralling to witness individuals who had dedicated their lives to outmaneuvering one another.
Your father redirected your focus to him, patting your hand gently. "Remember, keep your guard up, Y/N/N. With that, you’re unstoppable," he advised tenderly, enveloping you in a tight embrace.
Standing in front of the academy, a quiet sigh escaped you as the imposing glass building loomed ahead. Someone fell into step beside you, offering a gentle pat on your shoulder. "Chin up, Y/N. It's just another day of regurgitating information we already know, all in preparation for the selections in a couple of weeks," remarked Coriolanus Snow, his red uniform contrasting sharply with his white hair.
With an audible scoff, you pushed forward, ignoring the taller male attempting to catch up. "It's too early to deal with you, Snow. Try again in a few years," you grumbled, ascending the steps. Though he wasn’t entirely off the mark, the truth stung. You had been fed the same information and skills since childhood, only to be thrust into a scenario where your survival instincts were the only currency. Admitting Snow's correctness would only inflate his already sizable ego.
"Someone's rather moody this morning. Could it be due to your combat evaluation tomorrow?" he inquired, clasping his hands behind his back as he walked alongside you into the building. "Y/N, seriously, you've got nothing to worry about. You're at the top of our class in combat; I don't see why you're so anxious." However, being at the top of your class was precisely why you were anxious. It meant having a colossal target on your back during evaluations.
Everyone else would work day and night, honing their skills just to topple you from your coveted position. You wouldn’t be surprised if someone attempted to kill you during the evaluations. Each year, someone would bend the rules, seeking to kill a contender prematurely, resulting in reprimands and reminders about the purpose of their presence here. Coin's lineage served as an constant reminder, as each year, her grandson would appear, delivering the same speech about the ideals of the new Panem and how everyone was there to atone for their family's misdeeds.
"What about you, Snow? Shouldn't you be concerned about tomorrow? I mean, you're ranked number five, poised to face Zephyra, who's just below me," you remarked as both of you made your way toward the lecture hall.
"I'm not overly concerned about her. However, I am worried that you'll get trapped in your own thoughts, as you tend to do, and end up sabotaging yourself," Coriolanus stated, his expression carrying a rare trace of concern. You shot him a perplexed look and moistened your lips. Coriolanus displaying concern for you was uncharted territory, indicating either a hidden agenda or an imminent catastrophe. Either way, his uncharacteristic kindness was a departure from the norm.
"What do you want Snow? Just get to the point and skip beating around the bush," you retorted, taking your seat and turning to face him as he settled beside you. His piercing blue eyes scrutinized your every move, almost as if he were testing the waters.
"Let's train together tonight. It could be mutually beneficial. I can assist you in learning how to defend against Jackson's attacks, and in return, you can help me improve my agility. They're wrapping up classes early today, giving us all time to prepare for tomorrow," Snow proposed an intriguing offer. His agility was lacking, hindering his ability to evade certain attacks or strike his opponents effectively. Meanwhile, you grappled with maintaining your guard and fending off Jackson's assaults. Jackson held the third position overall in your class for a reason.
"Fine, we can train together tonight, but this is solely for my benefit," you agreed, shifting your focus to the front as Professor Ellington entered the class.
Entering the training room, you glanced around before your gaze settled on Coriolanus, clad in a t-shirt and joggers. Despite your reluctance to admit it, he actually looked quite good in that attire. Part of you wondered how good he looked–shaking your head you rid any thoughts that threatened to invade your mind. This was the man you grew up despising; there was no way you'd be thinking of him in that way.
Moving forward, you took a seat on the bench beside him, releasing a sigh. "Took you long enough. I almost thought you were going to bail on me," he remarked, observing as you began taping your hands. Frankly, you contemplated it. The last time you sparred with him, he dominated the match. You barely scraped by with a victory when you decided to exploit his injured leg, a move he made sure to chastise you for over the following month.
"Ellington wanted to discuss the paper I wrote for our survival basics class. Something about me getting carried away with a whole paragraph detailing how I'd sleep up in a tree," you grumbled as you tore the tape with your teeth. In your opinion, the technique was crucial to discuss, considering its significance in survival scenarios within the games.
A snicker resonated from beside you, prompting a glare aimed in Coriolanus's direction. He responded with only a smile before rising and heading toward the ring. Your eyes tracked his every move, noting how he rolled his shoulders to loosen them and ran his fingers through his white locks before stepping onto the mat. Observing his broad shoulders, your gaze traced down his form.
"Y/N, I can't tell if you're checking me out or trying to find a weak point, but it's starting to weird me out a little," he remarked while moving around the ring and stretching his arms.
Standing abruptly, you cleared your throat and adjusted your attire, joining him in the ring for stretching while maintaining a peripheral watch on him. "I wasn't checking you out; you're not even worth a second glance," you grumbled, facing him. "I was merely assessing how long it'll take for me to kick your ass."
Coriolanus regarded you quietly before assuming a stance. Both of you raised your guards, circling the ring, awaiting the first move. It was your decision to act; you shifted and darted straight for him. Coriolanus attempted a hit toward your left shoulder, but you pivoted, dodging the jab and swiftly landing a kick on his back.
"When you face Zephyra, her agility matches mine. You need to learn to move with her, shifting your weight to protect your vulnerable areas, especially your back," you advised, circling back to face him as you continued moving around the ring.
"Why do you dislike me? I've never quite understood the grudge you hold against me. We've been stuck together for years, and not once have I ever screwed you over," he questioned, eyes darting toward your feet, trying to predict your actions. Seizing the moment he looked away, you ducked and landed a jab against his stomach.
A forced exhale escaped him, eliciting a smile on your lips. "Less talking, more blocking," you retorted, sweeping his feet from under him with a swift leg movement. As he lay on the ground, you offered your hand, but when he grabbed it, he swiftly pulled you into a choke hold.
Grunting, you tapped his arm, prompting him to release you with a sly smile. Stepping back, you massaged your shoulder before eyeing him on the ground. "I don't hate you; I just don't see the point in making friends destined to die," you explained, fixing your hair. "To me, you're nothing but competition."
After your exchange, silence reigned between the two of you, except for sharing minor pointers to enhance your fighting skills for the evaluation. By the time both of you called it a day, the sun had set. Seated on the mat, you unwrapped your hand, wincing at the emerging bruises on your knuckles. Coriolanus settled next to you, reclining against his hands.
"Despite what you might believe, Y/N, I do care about you. Sejanus and the others keep their distance because they're intimidated or frightened by you, but you're a clever fighter. Your dedication to learning survival tactics might just be what sets you apart," he confessed softly, his gaze fixed on you as you inspected your hands.
You lowered your gaze, feeling the weight of his words. "I avoid friendships because I don’t want to feel the pain of losing someone who meant something to me. We have to fight the people we care about because they want to punish us the way the districts were punished. I want to be your friend Snow, I really do, but I can't risk experiencing that loss," you admitted, a rare moment of vulnerability shared with him. "I'm bound to enter that arena because of the betrayal perceived by the Coin family after my mother married my father, especially given my great-grandmother's legacy," you added with a shrug.
It was an aspect you hadn't dwelled on much—the betrayal to your family name. Coriolanus gently grasped your chin with his thumb and forefinger, redirecting your gaze to meet his. "Don't isolate yourself because you fear loss. Sometimes, having someone who can protect you or simply offer a shoulder to lean on is better than navigating this world alone," he advised, his thumb tracing your jawline tenderly.
Nodding, you found yourself studying his captivating blue eyes, drawing you in every time. "I struggle with it at times. I've convinced myself that solitude is better, so I have justification for what will happen in that arena and it’ll be easier to do what I have to do to survive," you confessed, averting your eyes before clearing your throat and withdrawing from his touch. "Now, you should go. And don't think I don't know what you were attempting; I'm not kissing you, Snow," you grumbled, gathering your belongings.
Behind you, a boisterous laugh caught your attention, a sound unfamiliar coming from him. "I never mentioned anything about kissing, Y/N. It was just a gesture of comfort," he grinned, a sly smile appearing after crossing a boundary he knew he shouldn't have. "Sleep well, Snowflake. Can't wait to witness your performance tomorrow. But try not to dream of me," he called as you hastily left the room.
If there was one person you wanted to shove from a tree in that arena, it was Coriolanus Snow himself.
A/N: I would like to thank all of you for reading this, It does mean a lot as well versed in writing for Coryo, but I did want to give it a try and so far it has been fun. I do have a few of the next parts mapped out and I will try to release a writing schedule for the series to give you a rough estimate for when each part will be released.
For my ACOTAR readers: I am taking a break from updating for Azriel and Rhysand since I didn't have much insperation for thier parts and I just simply did not like what I was writing. I do promise to get to them soon but as of now, they are on hold until I can actually like what I am writing.

From Zero - Linkin Park | Personal Ratings
Crazy time we live in. Never thought I would get to see another album from Linkin Park, since I grew up on it and never had a chance to get to their concert. But now? Phew. Not only I might actually visit them one day, but there's also a new album? And a good one at that?
Either way, I thought I would break it down. mostly for myself, but also for anyone else who wants to agree or add their own opinion to mine.
___________________
◞ Starting strong with the first track that was ever shown to us. The Emptiness Machine still remains my most favorite track of the whole album, and I'm not sure if it's just the bias from the surprise and hype I've felt when the song dropped, or it's really just **that good**. Either way, while it might remind of the old albums that LP has released in the past, in my eyes, this song in specific is very much the polished, modernized version of their typical style, which makes it new. I love the way how Mike starts first, and then Emily joins, both having their own chance to perform, rather than the usual 'Mike raps, Chester sings the chorus and screams'. Also, it added to the whole surprise when Emily came to the picture, was a great build-up.
Overall, this song is a solid 10/10 to me. I keep catching myself sing it even if I'm not actively listening to it.
___________________
◞ I am putting Cut the Bridge and Stained together, because they both heavily remind me of 'Living Things' album, and I have pretty much the same opinion about both of them. Probably controversial, but I like them probably the least. That doesn't mean they are not good, just, in my eyes, compared to other tracks in the album, these are weaker. They are still good, Cut the Bridge is catchy, seems a very Mike-ish song, I like the lyrics, I can imagine this song being an introduction to the audience that doesn't typically listen to music like LP. The last part in 'Cut the Bridge' where both Emily and Mike start singing is a great selling point for me. Now, Stained has a great instrumental, I like the intro. My best friend is actually a big fan of this song. Not sure if I should point out the lyrics, I mean, it's Mike, he's a fantastic writer. However, something about this song is not sticking with me. I can't imagine myself casually singing it to myself, as I would (and am) with The Emptiness Machine, or other songs in the album.
Overall, while songs are good, for me they are weaker than the rest, so I would give both of them a solid 6,5/10.
___________________
◞ Reminds me of Minutes to Midnight, like Given Up and What I've Done had a baby together. It's great, it's catchy, I love everything about it. I love the rhythm, I memorized the song in just about 2 times of listening to it. Not to mention the 16 second scream done by Emily. This song was a must, just to show her vocal range alone. While some people, for some reason, seem to have a problem that this song is now associated with League of Legends, I can just say... get over it. If a relation to a game somehow ruins an absolutely great song for you, I don't know what to tell you.
I'll give it a 9/10.
___________________
◞ People criticized this song A LOT when it came out, saying that it's very pop-ish and not Linkin Park at all, to which I want to remind you that Linkin Park always made a few tracks per album with light, melancholic tone, that some would consider very pop-y. I wasn't sure what to associate this song with, it's like a mix between all of the albums, as, like I just mentioned, LP are known for dropping less heavy tracks in their albums. Overall, it's a good song, the music video is great, it has a good meaning to it, and it's also the first Emily-solo song that we have heard. I do not see a single reason to dislike it. It might be a skip for some, but I can't argue that it's catchy, it hits right in the feelings, and Emily's vocals are great there.
I'll give it a 8,75/10.
___________________
◞ I think Keys to the Kingdom just had a baby. This is such a 'The Hunting Party' song. It slaps, although I still prefer Keys to the Kingdom for this song. It is also stated that Emily wrote, or helped writing, the chorus. I like the distorted sound to it, I like the drums, and I think you can tell that Emily had a great time performing this one. However, for me, I probably won't catch myself listening to this song that often.
I will give it 7,5/10.
___________________
◞ Okay, this song... first time I heard it, I was really skeptical about it. But something about the melody, the little echo, and Emily's soft voice... I can imagine myself walking at night, or driving a car while listening to this song. Or even just listening to it with my eyes closed while I'm laying in my bed and daydreaming. It is also very pop-ish song, sure, it reminds me of 'A Thousand Suns', somehow hits me with Iridescent, Waiting for the End, or even the Catalyst feel. I liked this song less than Cut The Bridge at first, but now? I think I'll relisten to it when I feel the need to look for some peace and quiet.
This is 8,5/10 for me.
___________________
◞ GOD, this song! And everyone in the suit? Some people seem to associate this song with One Step Closer, but I would personally disagree. This is a heavy Figure.09 feel, which means Meteora album. Someone on YT did a mashup with Figure.09 and this song, and it was so flawless, you would think that this is the original. I'd highly recommend to look it up. To keep it short, I'm in love with this song, the build up before fractic screaming, Mr.Hahn solo, distortion, everything about it... I love it. This also feels so natural for Emily, considering her Dead Sara band.
This is 9,25/10 for me.
___________________
◞ Oh the things I've felt when I heard it... so I just said that the previous song is very much Emily? This song is her 200%. It suits her so well, the way she sings, and the high pitch scream, the sharp exhale, the lyrics, everything. You'd think I would find things to say about it because of how much I like it, but I can't put it into words. This song wakes something in me, and the chorus is probably my most favorite chorus out of the whole album. I so badly want to see it Live. And to top it all of, that scream she does on the last chorus, at the end? She sounds like an absolute beast, that scream came from the bottom of her soul. This is so Hybrid Theory, I feel like a teenager again.
This is 9,75/10 for me.
___________________
◞ At last, in LP's typical fashion, the last track is the heartbreaking one. I love how Mike and Emily sing together, it also feels refreshing to hear Emily in such a high soft pitch. I cried when I listened to the lyrics. LP is back at releasing songs like that when I'm mentally drained. I feel like this song is Mike's, everything about it, and Emily's support gives such a great finish to it. It reminds me of One More Light. Mike and Emily sound fantastic, their voices compliment each other. I welcome this song to my 'heartbreak' playlist. LP always had a great skill in describing my internal turmoil with a few words, so flawlessly, in the ways that I would not have been able to do it myself. This song is just one of those gems.
This is 9,5/10 for me.
___________________
That is it. Great album, so happy to see them back. Everyone looks so happy performing on the stage, and I'm hoping that I will get a chance to see them live, to fill the gap in my childhood and possibly heal my wound that was left when Chester passed away. He passed away on my birthday, right when I turned 18, so my childhood died with him. I still miss him, I hope he is looking down at us and rocking it out with the band.
I hope, if you read it, you can somehow relate and agree with me.
If you want to discuss it further, I'm all ears.

I'm curious: is there something you can share for question number 5 of the author ask game? 😊
Thank you for the ask!
5. Can you share something from researching for a fic?
I don't research a lot for fics besides going back to canon to fact check myself and ensure I'm at least sort of in the character's voice. It's just not something I typically find interesting and I try to keep my fics as something of a hobby, whereas research and fact checking is harder for me.
That being said, I have done extra reading.
Tw for snakes and images/discussion of snake attacks and threat displays.
Idk if I'd call it research since its kinda what I do anyway, but I've spent nights awake on snake Wikipedia and snake reddit and sometimes snake YouTube learning about them because Misumi likes them and Kabuto had a snake summon.
I've learned that there are a few kinds of venomous snakes, elapidae which according to Wikipedia have fangs that don't retract, think black mamba or a king cobra (this seems to be what Orochimaru’s summons are? You might have a better guess than me but they are NOT boas, sorry English dub), Viperidae, and Atractaspididae. I focused mostly on the first group as well as constrictor snakes like pythons and boas.
The threat display of Kabuto's white summon snake in LP is based on a black mamba, in the prison cell chapter it has the same mouth open, s-shape, posture iirc, but it shares little else with that species. I feel like summons have to kind of be their own thing, sharing traits with but separate from conventional snake species.
I'm not expert on them but from what I saw reticulated pythons caught my eye as a Misumi sort of snake. They're the only constrictor that's known to consume people (very very rarely), but they can also be kept as pets (this is not advisable as they have specific care needs few can meet)! They're gorgeous but giant, there's a youtube video of someone interacting with a friend's pet and it was a struggle for them to get it out of the box. Not as big as the biggest constrictors but plenty large. From what I gather they do sometimes attack their handlers if not properly handled, the main method for training them I saw discussed is tap training? Basically to signal to the snake when it's feeding time vs time for handling. I've heard toothpaste is a method to get them off if they latch on (they don't like the smell?) but you mostly would need a second person to untangle the snake. I love them deeply and truly, absolutely beautiful animal.
Despite this I do not own snakes and unlike Sasuke I'm not a snake expert so I try to keep discussion of them to a minimum. What I show of the handling is very subject to errors because for all the research I can do I'm not someone who has the experience to actually confirm any of what I read. Very happy to be corrected when I get things about snake care wrong, especially with how demonized snakes are. It's a line of not wanting to downplay it when they can be a threat and need to be properly cared for but also not making them sound like they hunt people for sport and pleasure.
Some sources but not an exhaustive list as I didn't want to go hunting down specific reddit posts for this, and a lot of it is wikipedia:
This is the pet reticulated python video, I also used one of a snake in captivity at a zoo to see how handlers interact with them but it shows a snake consuming something (that is already dead) and is easily searchable so I won't share it:
youtube
This is kinda sorta what the mambas threat display looks like (that I know of (first image)) but I didn't want to find a video of it doing the display since I didn't want to show a distressed snake.
This is the ask game if anyone else would like to ask me something
#ask game#snakes#tw snakes#fanfic stuff#some of this may be inaccurate#and idk how much reddit wikipedia and youtube dives count as research#but#that's what I got#thanks for letting me ramble about snakes#I love them

Alright, fuck it, I'm ranting about how Deltarune theorists treat the Halloween Hack
Forewarning: I'm probably going to come across as rude here, but good LORD is this reading insidious. Alright, so apparently there's an epidemic of using the Earthbound Halloween Hack to justify their Deltarune theories. Something to the effect of 'Well, the Halloween Hack was about you, the player, being a murderer and that the only ethical choice is not to play it and kill the innocent old man, so who's to say he didn't recycle those themes into Deltarune?'
Which would be fine and all if it weren't for the fact that it's wrong. And this has been spreading secondhand by people who have never played nor experienced a LP of the Halloween Hack, so I guess it falls to me to correct it. There are some correct broad strokes here; the character we play as is a bounty hunter in a framing that portrays the job as being a more socially acceptable assassin, and there is a sadistic, possibly third party entity that takes glee in Andonuts' death. But the one thing we know for certain is that it is NOT the player. And by the start of the game, Andonuts is anything but innocent. To elaborate on the latter, the Andonuts in the Halloween Hack is not the goofy old man from Earthbound, but a maniac driven insane with guilt trying to bring the whole world down with them. He's turned his immediate surroundings into a hellscape of bioengineered monstrosities and a few survivors desperately trying to survive, and said monsters are starting to encroach into other towns, it's implied even that those monsters are abducting people - or killing them without even leaving a body. And when Varik comes a'knockin', he doesn't try to deny that he caused this; he fluctuates between laughter and gibbering in terror, locking himself into the Magicant machine in the belief that it will in some way save him. Which brings us to the former.
Now, I'm not sure that Toby had a solid metanarrative idea in mind here - all interactions are portrayed as being spoken to Varik. But it's at this point that the narration (or at least the real world narration), who or whatever it may be, gets VERY pushy. It starts portraying Andonuts as less of a man, and more of some kind of beast, a monster to slay, and urges you to kill him in his sleep. If you choose to do so, it praises you, tells you/Varik that you did the right thing, and then the game ends because that's not the true ending. If you choose the blank second option, the narration gets annoyed, and tells you that you don't have the option to do nothing. But if you press the "B" button, it loses its shit. It starts trying to convince you, pleads with you, telling you that you want to, NEED to kill him, eventually devolving into the rage of the leftmost textbox as Varik enters Andonuts' mental world instead of committing cold-blooded murder.
As you explore his mindscape, you start to piece together the reasons Andonuts ended up this messed up - repressed sexuality, strained relationships, and, of course, the mistaken belief that he personally caused the death of his son and his friends due to a misunderstanding of how time travel works. You're informed that you need to gather Dr. Andonuts' "courage" in order to reach the deepest depths of his mind. As you progress through his memories and self loathing, you find entities that call themselves "courage". However, it becomes more and more clear, until Poo outright states it, that they are actually some kind of psychic projection (Earthbound is about kids with psychic powers FYI) from the kids who Andonuts thinks he killed (besides Ness, who for some reason that even the game seems to be confused about is narratively equated with Varik), from the new timeline they ended up in after killing the game's main antagonist. The motives get clearer too; at first, you're told that their goal is to 'help' or 'save' Andonuts in some vague way, but as you progress, it becomes clearer and clearer that Andonuts has gone far past the point of no return; Poo makes it clear that they know they can't save-save Andonuts, and the best thing they can hope for is to stop him from mentally torturing what little is left of himself in his dream world. And then, the final battle. It starts with fighting Andonuts' Id, a gory, deformed creature that does nothing but be miserable and beg for mercy. This feels less like cruelty, and more of a necessary evil; the status quo is only making Andonuts lose his mind more, and killing it isn't the same as killing Andonuts, as evidenced by the fact that Andonuts is still there to fight you after you kill it. After that, you fight Andonuts' Rage, who claims that with the Id gone, his mind is nothing but hatred. Whether it's true or not, he makes it quite clear that the Andonuts we are fighting is pure anger; there's the memey dialogue, which, while somewhat tastelessly executed and overly crude by modern and professional standards, does the job quite well at portraying him as a being composed of hatred. There's also his most powerful attacks being "PSI Bitchkill" and kicking you in the dick really hard. Yes, really.
Ultimately, Andonuts' Rage is defeated, and Magicant fades away, and we find out the outcome - Andonuts is dead. The game muses on what the point of this whole thing was if he was going to die anyway, and closes out on Varik musing on how his life is pretty good, a fart joke, and a 'Happy Halloween' from Toby.
Now, while you could be forgiven for interpreting Magicant as being pointless, and you are intended to feel cheated on some level, I don't think it's quite so simple. Yes, Andonuts dies no matter what you do, but the portrayal of it is treated quite differently. Killing him right off, between the tone of the narration and the lack of ending, feels gross and wrong. His death upon beating his mental hangups feels more melancholic. Like you tried to do the right thing, but failed.
And I feel the weight of Magicant is important too - you actually come to understand and even feel bad for Andonuts, rather than simply writing him off as a monster and discarding him. The canon heroes, too, find it to still be worth it to try to put him out of his misery to try to give him some semblance of a peaceful death, given how they're all gung-ho on finishing the adventure and how Poo acknowledges that there's no way at this point that Andonuts can reach a happy ending.
So, to try to bring it back around to Deltarune, if there's anything that Toby took from this to bring to Deltarune's plot, I believe it is this sentiment:
Sure, Andonuts died either way. Whatever you try, that can't be changed. But still, there is value in your choice to disobey the narration. there is value in choosing to understand him, despite being doomed, in trying to give him a better death than being stabbed in his self-torture chamber. Yes, what you chose to do may not change anything. But there is still meaning in the fact that you chose to do it.
If Deltarune really does only have one ending (and that little question mark in that one description is putting that into doubt), you participating in Kris' story, and how to choose to do so, still matter. Snowgrave wouldn't be that big of a deal if they didn't. Choosing not to play might even end up being the worst outcome for that world.

I like how the full timeline of my knowledge of Danganronpa experience is, I saw the YouTube rap battle between Toko and Yuri from Doki Doki Literature Club (which dropped on Aug 28, 2021), I enjoyed it, I watched it many times, and then on some rewatch I thought, "Hey, maybe I should see what Danganronpa's about. Isn't that the game that the Game Grumps have been playing for a WHILE now, when I've been waiting for them to get to Deltarune Chapter 2?" They were already on SDR2 when I first partook in the first one, and if we're keeping up the timeline thing, I know that I hadn't yet gotten through the second game by Feb 6, 2022, because that's when the rap battle between Nagito and Dream was posted, and I had to wait to watch that one until I finished SDR2, so as to avoid spoilers. (But I finished SDR2 long before the Game Grumps did; I watched ProZD's stuff, and JazzyGuns for UDG.)
Meaning I went into Danganronpa knowing nothing except what could be gleaned from the Toko-Yuri rap battle. The only Danganronpa character I knew was Toko (and by extension Syo; I didn't even know about Monokuma), for wrecking Yuri in a rap battle.
After I had finished (watching LP's of) all of the games, I asked everyone in my friend group if they knew anything about Danganronpa, and none of them did. I decided to check in with an old friend from high school who seemed like Danganronpa would be right up her alley, and I discovered (embarrassingly) as soon as I opened Facebook messenger (because I did not have her number) that her most recent message to me was recommending Danganronpa in like 2016 or 2017. Oops. But I still reached out, we talked for a bit.
And I also found out that one of my cousins has played or watched Danganronpa, so he became my main person to reference Danganronpa with.
I don't know what my point is anymore, but pretty wild, right? That hyperfixation hit hard.

For the character ask game I choose... Bentina Beakley!
All righty! Beakley it is!
Sexuality Headcanon: Bi!
Gender Headcanon: Cis
A BROTP I have with said character: Scrooge and Launchpad. She relaxes over tea and chats with Scrooge, and bonds with LP over Darkwing Duck.
A ship I have with said character: I don't think I have one, honestly! Unless you count @lemonsherbetsss's incredible oc Babette Duboi (SO GOOD, I LOVE THEM SMMM). Buuuut, tho I'm still on the fence about this, I've sort of considered what a Beakley/Graves relationship would be life if he totally reformed.
A NOTP I have with said character: Heron/Beakley (I guess I could see a past relationship working, way before Heron shows her true evil colors). But not while present-day Bentina and Heron.
A random headcanon: She still enjoys bonding over DWD with Launchpad, and he once took her to St. Canard to meet his best friend who took up the mantle of the once-fictional crimefighter. Another headcanon I have is that she slept with many villainous men and women in an effort to get close to them for the good of the mission while on S.H.U.S.H. duty.
General Opinion over said character: My favorite female on the show, (with Della as a VERY close second). She's flawed, but she'd do anything for her granddaughter, and she kicks ass! She's amazing!!

Press note about the invitation to Music Tapes’ Lullabies Tour. Tiny Mix Tapes, 8th July 2010
"But let’s break this down for a second — you write to [email protected] to request a visit and a time slot, should you be so lucky. Some strange people who you’ve never met come to your house and sit in your bedroom as you lie in bed, presumably already in pajamas and with your teeth brushed. You’ve never met these people before, but appreciate a hopeful snuggle with sort-of celebrities. Actually, do you even know what Julian Koster looks like? Do you know for sure he’s not someone who will break in your house and steal your LP collection, turntable, and important electronics? (Note: I’m assuming he’s not.)"
This is a weird bit of promo work. The Music Tapes, a.k.a. Julian Koster, recently announced that in August, he will serenade sleepy fans at their personal bedsides in Boston, New York, and Philadelphia. These are purportedly much better than the cutesy ditties you wish your mom sang to you as a kid before she turned off the light; The Music Tapes will perform bedtime-appropriate songs from Music Tapes for Clouds and Tornadoes (TMT Review), The 1st Imaginary Symphony for Nomad, and a few new songs.
But let’s break this down for a second — you write to [email protected] to request a visit and a time slot, should you be so lucky. (Note: I’m assuming he’s not.)
And though Julian Koster did this sort of thing once before (for the last two Christmases, he offered his services as a caroler house-to-house in the Midwest and the Eastern seaboard — TMT News), does he really want to risk entering a stranger’s house, letting himself be encircled by said stranger and his/her friends and family, and simply trust that his warm milk will be unadulterated and that the door will remain unlocked from the outside?
Okay, so Julian Koster isn’t exactly G.G. Allin and his fans probably don’t tend towards violence, but somebody’s got to think of these things. Can’t you just request to sip Sleepytime tea in a well-lit coffee shop, surrounded by people, right after rush hour but before dark?
Anyway, the same people who emailed [email protected] will receive information about a secret location and time to play “St. Nikolai the Wonder Worker’s Wishing Game of Candles” (sort of like freeze-tag, with foot-tall candles) the night after The Music Tapes’ nocturnal visitations. So go ahead and shoot ‘em an email; you can’t lose any sleep over it.

2024 Media Post Time - Master
21. Mouthwashing
I saw people posting about this, some writers and artists I like too so I decided to watch it. I just have random thoughts so this isn't too cohesive. I ended up watching Vinny Vinesauce, Jacksepticeye, ManlyBadassHero and Jack Manifold play it and it was fun hearing the voices for everything. Jack Manifold had a fun LP to be honest since he tells his thoughts out loud and is quite expressive even though he was confused.
Curly's cries of pain reverberating through the ship's walls when Jimmy goes to find Anya and Swansea in the middle of the night.
I like the parallel incidents and chronology of the game. The crash and the Judgement side by side as the perspective switches between Jimmy and Curly. The ship is noticeably different (The foam, the bottles of mouthwash) as is the tension. Before it's all about emotional stress and after it's all about survival as they slowly go mad and get drunk off something inedible every waking moment.
I think Curly's laugh when Jimmy gets a hold of the gun is at his own expense. He thought he could trust him and even if his callousness or mistreatment of Anya proved something about his character to Curly, a gun in the hand has no second meaning. It's a failing on himself as a captain if he couldn't see Jimmy's corruption before this. The gun was the one thing Anya wanted to keep away from Jimmy, locking the room this time he would still not allow her any control.
And I guess Jimmy resents Curly because of his relative success and the praise he receives, and he is also impulsive and low empathy. These attitudes don't blend well together. It feels like he's jealous of his position as captain and when they get let go wants to disgrace his name by crashing the ship. Since he's so tired of hearing his praises.
I liked seeing Curly's true appearance before the disfigurement only at the end half of the game. After playing as him for other portions, and as Jimmy only seing him post incident. Now we know the damage done to his body. A "How did we get here?" moment when Jimmy cuts his leg off.
I imagined what he could look like and it wasn't too far off "Curly" with curly hair. Though from the ID cards it seems like it's really his name too. I thought he might have more brightness in the eyes but well he's definitely under some stress...
I wish we could see more scenes of Curly's caretaking, I think it's an intimate part of the game but Anya was the main caretaker and it's not necessarily the most relevant thing but as a three times grounding event to relax the tension it would make sense.
Jimmy doesn't say a word about Anya's death. I love when he can't even perceive her or Curly after Daisuke is injured from the vent. Maybe it's because he's focusing on Daisuke right now but this is all he sees, and a grave in the hallway he has no words for. Every time he talks to her he finds a way to call her useless, knowing his treatment of her and her pregnancy which he caused aren't helping her productivity.

Anya's rape kills her from the inside out. Almost an equal act to murder. Curly is expected to mediate for the two of them but he doesn't and there's like an undertone of this abuse by Jimmy throughout the whole game. Everyone but Daisuke knows and none of them will talk about it.
Because of Jimmy, the crew loses faith in Curly, his body is nearly destroyed and Jimmy's own actions slowly alienate everyone from him. He has Daisuke on his side just because he's young naive and doesn't know what he did to Anya.
Even after Curly has been stripped of all autonomy, Jimmy wants to put responsibility onto him. To tell the story of the ship. And it's Curly's fault this ever happened because he didn’t take responsibility for Jimmy's actions like he's meant to as Captain. Didn't reprimand him or punish him or get him away from Anya, stayed courteous as a friend and didn't realise how much of a monster Jimmy really was even as it stared him in the face. Couldn't even keep the gun away from him.
Curly and Jimmy both share a piece of Curly inside themselves. After Jimmy cuts a slice of his leg for each of the crew, his plate is clean in the next scene.
Jimmy doesn't really want to be Captain in the end either, he just wants to be in control of everyone. His control destroys them in different ways. Possessing Anya, sending Daisuke into a death trap, killing Swansea when he tries his hardest to atop him and in the end he giving care to Curly and locking him in the Cryopod as he sets himself free with a gunshot.
They know how valuable they are and it's only as valuable as what they're carrying and when they learn it's just mouthwash, their hopes of rescue become impossibly small. There is this theme of labour exploitation that's somehow not too relevant to the message of the game but adds to the trauma. If there is a non harmonious crew, collective punishment may be required. A gun on board for captain only in case of crew unrest. Even while the crash warning sounds they learn their pay will be docked (so maybe it isn't so bad if we all die tight now after all).
I really liked it. This compressed sci fi setting is always charming to me and it's definitely horror genre in a horror way more than a fear way. The monster hallucinations didn't do much for me but they kept the gameplay fresh and I can see their purpose narratively as well.
Adding this but well I love the cannibalism element of course. With Jimmy's delusion, and it's the only meat he can get. It's his way of possessing Curly for the final time before he dies. Maybe it's out of love or hatred too. Is it cake video gone wrong.

Umineko Chapter 7 (front half)
i know i said i'd write a post about erika don't @ me
i knew Willard and Lion were coming because they're in the fighting game but i didn't know anything about them. so far Chiru has been less "answers" and more "here's new characters with new perspectives" will's Introduction is he says he's anti-erika, the detective that cares about love. so will he succeed where she failed? he's kinda boring but he moves the story along i suppose. i don't believe for a second that Lion existed in Reality. i guess they're "what if natsuhi didn't kill that kid" [edit: :)] they're fun but i'd like to see them interact with battler and the cousins. like is the family Cool with a nonbinary successor? kinzo and krauss are not exactly progressive. then again if beato the younger is canon trans that would make kinzo a trans-positive misogynist If bernie works for aurora does she work for "the author"? (as a force within the story) she has been Instigating Everything so far in the back half. did she always work for her or is that a post-ange development battler wouldn't approve of us "digging in the guts" of beato's game, it's less of a like, tcrf development post mortem and more like if a magic show showed how they did the trick at the end. but in Modern Era magic tricks are not really secret and it's more about the skill- there's folks who di a trick while explaining how it works, or with the secret compartments fully visible, and it's still impressive
~extended kinzo flashback sequence~ i'm reading an LP so i don't hear the voice acting, wonder if young kinzo has battler's VA. they comment that the voice is similar "...Lion. There is nothing so long and faint as a life you do not live for yourself. And yet, it slides on by in the blink of an eye. Do not forget this." "Living means having your own will. You probably were dead during that time." "Precisely. I wanted to live. No, I wanted to die. How can a puppet die?" "...By cutting... the strings." "Correct. That would be death and it would also be life, since it would mean being free." no escape from existentialism beato the elder was italian?! mama mia! lol at kinzo talking about the Bravery of the italian fascists the gold is gonna be on this sub [edit: :)] i had heard the end chapters of umineko were a little contentious and some people didn't like the explanations but once i saw the italian submarine every Kinzo Mystery fell into place BICE????? i've been using "beato" to refer to every beatrice but it's only properly beato the younger. bice... of course it gets all Dramatic when there's only two japanese soldiers and bice left, the guy who was shooting on sight suddenly wants to talk a lot
~now maria flashback~ lol maria is the messiah. also lol at maria's beato being like "real witches wash their hands and face every day" so if beato daughter of bice died with rosa where does Beato 3 come in. even if she didn't die on the rocks she would be older when she met maria so is it a different beato? though it's maria so she'd see all beatrices as Beato, it's not evidence of anything. i don't think she's a fully imaginary friend because imaginary beato would be able to make rainbows and wouldn't give her New information willard refers to maria's beato as "beato the elder" which has been my name for bice were there previously moments where someone suddenly acts OOC to represent the game master moving a piece? i don't recall any in part 1, was battler's beato mostly Above That will reaching into the story and telling his blorbos he's proud of them is surely wish fulfillment to Some subset of readers
WE CALLED THE GOLDEN WITCH AT 2 AM **SHE ACTUALLY RESPONDED?!?**
jessica goes into the vip room and sees a beatrice fumo on the side table i'm gonna assume will's seating arrangement mystery is just a sign of lion being poorly pasted in so if baby is rejected then maria's beato is born, that must mean the baby doesn't die. i think i said i would be mad if that was true because of how it was presented initially but whatever. maybe i said that about beato 2 (rosa's beato) dying on the spikes so if lion (loved baby) is trans i'd think that implies beato 3 (kanon probably?) is trans too? god i hope bryn picks this back up she called it so early. willard all "are you a boy or a girl" he's not very tactful. but it is magic 1987. well is yoshiya ftm, or mtf boymoding with the kanon identity, or genderfluid depending on role or what. i guess it'll be straightened out from them directly eventually but of course they wouldn't use any modern terminology ~yasu flashback~ it's cute they don't come out and say she's yoshiya despite how obvious it is. i'm gonna use the names and pronouns for yoshia's multiple presentations that they use At The Time for clarity. some trans folks are ok describing it like that, some aren't, but it's how you do the plurals and the genderfluids and there hasn't been anything Definitive said the stakes are not Just the stakes but also girls who went to furniture school with yasu. or their faces are based on them. or they're "playing" them in the Aurora Theater. ultimately doesn't matter but it's fun they do some Slight of Hand with shannon here. either she's rooming with yasu at the school and then Not rooming with her at the mansion OR she's yasu's tulpa. or alter. i wasn't too prudent in my rereading when i last considered the possibility of them sharing a body (to solve the number of people on rokkenjima)
i guess if you weren't paying ANY attention you'd be fooled by kanon speaking separately from yasu but it's a little insulting for 07 to try it on me :P oh hi gaap. story kinda forgot about you for a bit. so gaap is a beato and one of two older beatos for beato 3. gaap beato is not unlike the non-chick beato fragment (i forget if she had a title) [this is where the halfway point of the chapter is but i read a little more because my shift at work wasn't done]
awww kumasawa using magic to teach yasu "you'll lose shit less if you tie it to you or put it where it belongs" is very cute. she's all "this is a spiderweb charm to ward off beatrice" and "mr. knife is happier in his home" and. i don't remember how old yasu is in this scene but she's young it's definitely appropriate. kumasawa rules. she's definitely part of Maria's Beatrice. and she's who got yasu into mystery books! gaap talks about Golden Age mystery novels and that figuring it out before the end means you "win". so idk if i've "won" because it's not like there's a single culprit and crime in umineko, "figuring it out" and "before the end" are both on sliding scales. i figured out who beato is, basically what magic and love are, but i didn't figure out the epitath (which i think requires outside knowledge and japanese wordplay, so i'm not too upset about it), and my record for figuring out the closed rooms is pretty bad. i haven't solved if shannon is a beato tulpa/alter yet but it's certainly looking that way. there's still a full chapter and a half left, what is left to even happen? i guess it'll take a lot of words to wrap it all up from battler's perspective. and there's the little quiz (?) in ch8
