I grew up an only child- I don't remember much of my early childhood, so I'm not sure how I felt then, but I know I've wanted siblings at least since my tweens, probably since I was younger.

My half-brother was born when I was about 8. My dad brought him and his wife to visit for a few days when I was 10 or 11, I saw my brother a few times during their visit but he was very shy so we didn't really interact. He died when he was 4, I was told I think a month after his funeral, I know nothing about him so I didn't really have any feelings about him. It really wasn't any different than being an only child.

My second half-brother was born just before I turned 15, and my third half-brother about a year later. I met them both that December, when the younger was about 7 months or so. The older was shy so I mainly interacted with the baby. I met just one of them about a month later, and again both of them the May before I turned 18. They're toddlers so and I've barely met them, so again, it doesn't really feel any different than being an only child. They're divorced now and my dad is a tool, so I probably won't ever see them again.

My half-sisters (twins) were born a few months after I turned 15. The first time I met them, I had so many intrusive thoughts about killing them, I was genuinely scared to get close to them. I didn't want to hold them, barely wanted to look at them, I was so scared.

I was also still dealing with pseudo-delusions at the time, so I semi-regularly prayed for them to be kept safe. I was terrified of them being hurt.

My feelings about them now are... complicated. I didn't grow up with my mom, so I have kinda bad attachment trauma with her, and I'm psych disabled in a way that means I still heavily rely on her. I still sometimes feel like she chose and chooses them over me, that it was selfish of her to choose to have children when I was and still am struggling so much, that she loves and cares about them more than me.

I do love them. They're adorable, watching them grow up is pretty cool, I'm glad they're doing better than I was at their age. I don't think I ever wish they didn't exist, not really, just... I do sometimes briefly hate them, because they're more important to my mom than I am.

I see them maybe a few times a month? We don't really play or anything, just vaguely hang out. I try to force them to watch Bluey with me and they just complain 😔

I never lived with any of my siblings, barely met half of them, and they're all still toddlers so I really don't have any kind of relationship with them. I feel like I'm sort of between being an only child and not- because I do have siblings, I just don't have any of the sibling experiences. Functionally, I'm an only child. I still wish I had siblings closer in age.

I think I mostly just wish I wasn't so alone.

I do think Blazing Saddles handled its one depiction of native americans very poorly, and the full extent of its representation of chinese workers on the railroad is they were literally just there. not even one single speaking line. unclear if this is worse or better than the redface.

it's fucking phenomenal at lampooning antiblack racism though. extremely blatant, extremely funny satire, which is constantly and loudly saying "racism is the philosophy of the terminally stupid at best and morally depraved at worst, and we should all be pointing and laughing at them 24/7"

plus the main character is a heroic black man who has to navigate a whole lot of bullshit but is constantly smirking at the extraordinarily stupid racists and inviting the audience into the joke. the one heroic white character is a guy who was suicidally depressed until he met the protagonist and they just instantly became buds, and he's firmly in a supporting role the whole time and happy to be there. the protagonist saves the day with the help of his black friends from the railroad, and uses the position of power he was given to uplift not only those friends, but all the railroad workers of other minorities too, in an explicit show of solidarity.

anyone saying "Blazing Saddles is racist" had better be talking about its treatment of non-black minorities. it had better not be such superficial takes as "oh but they say the n-word all the time" or "they have nazis and the kkk in there!" because goddamn if that's the full extent of your critique I very seriously suggest you read up on media analysis. there is too much going over your head, you need to learn to recognize satire.

Went to a random palette site and picked ones that were reminiscent of Wally's colors but still very different that I liked and grabbed some outfits to do a sort of challenge for myself. Idk, thought it would help me out of my funk.

Suffice to say, I'm feeling a bit better now~ These were really fun to do!!!

The countdown to Invisobang 2025 begins! For those of you who don't know, Invisobang is a collaborative event for authors and artists. Over the course of several months, authors write fanfics and artists create art for those fics!

If you want to connect with other creators in the Phandom, this is the event for you!

How does it work?

Authors begin writing as soon as they sign up. Their goal is to write a fic with 5000 words minimum, although there is no maximum. Halfway through the event, they anonymously submit a profile of their fic.

Using these profiles, artists pick the fics that interest them the most and submit a claim. Mods will pair up authors and artists based on these claims.

During the second half of the event, authors finish their stories while artists make their art.

At the end of the event, participants share their work during posting week to create a big bang of content for everyone to ooh and aah at!

When is it, and how do I sign up?

Invisobang runs from February 14 to September 7. Author and artist sign-ups are staggered, while beta sign-ups are open for the first half of the event. You can sign up through a Google Form that will be posted with the opening announcement.

Authors: February 14–March 15

Beta readers: February 14–June 15

Artists and pinch hitters: May 16–June 15

The event is hosted through the Invisobang Discord. Participants must have a Discord account and be willing to join.

Co-authors can sign up in teams.

Artists must be able to make visual art or music, although you can make alternative art if your author is interested.

All content must be made new for the event, which means no continuing posted wips. Sequels and prequels to existing works are allowed, as well as ideas you’ve had sitting on the back burner (as long as they haven’t been posted before)
