Hello! My country change timezones slightly I think based on clocks, but I think we're currently BST? I can never remember, a bit embarrassing imo XD It's cool that we might be close in time zones!!

Ah I have no exams cause I'm not in uni, but I am tutoring kids for exams so does that count? XD I hope your tests go well!!

Cheap quality sucks, but it'd improve if companies were willing to give up just a teeny tiny bit of their profits...I've become so increasingly anti company over the last like 5 years I think XD And thank you!! Honestly the "offensive is funny" type is SO annoying. I've met a few that were like "uhhh it's dark humour" and I've been like. You do not have dark humour, you just want to be rude.

I did however get a cookie once from a guy who realised that I had been upset by his stupid joke (I can't remember what exactly it was, but I think it was like...either homophobic or misogynistic. The apology was nice to get because it was unexpected. Alas at the time I was unable to eat gluten so the cookie part was awkward.) And manipulation just sucks?? I feel like people get away with it a lot because it's not obviously awful until you realise what's going on.

Silly answers are encouraged for that one!! (And always tbh) XD And honestly I would get rid of sparkling water. I feel like it's like marmite - people love it or hate it. And I hate sparkling water, I literally cannot handle the texture. And one time I accidentally got some instead of regular water. The memory haunts me. So yeah I'd wind up half the world by getting rid of it altogether and just watch the chaos XD

My final answer (also I know who you are now cause of when I logged on BUT I'm gonna answer this anyways on here) would be my cats (haha not people so they slip through...not things either but not people), the way life has turned out (it's not perfect, but I'm in a much better position than I ever expected even just like 2 years ago), and my art abilities (because I like that I can draw, and draw pretty decently, it's a fun and usually relaxing hobby!)

legit 1 cm away from 5′7 (I’m 169 cm) though my mom is 5′7 (170 cm) and my dad is 6′1-6′2 (idk exactly? so 180 something cm). I always thought I’d be like 5′9 or taller lol 

2. What color and style is your hair? Light brown! And it’s long and wavy! 2b/c ish on the curl charts??

3. What color are your eyes?

brown-green! they appear only brown to most people but up close they’re actually green. I love brown eyes though so it’s all good!

4. Do you wear glasses? yes, but only for homework/driving etc. I have an astigmatism, aka one amazingly perfect eye that does all the work for the other super bad one. so I wear glasses to help balance it out. I have horrible nighttime depth perception though so :O

5. Do you wear braces? I did for SO MANY years that I would sue if my teeth didn’t come out straight

6. What’s your fashion sense? I have a mix of sporty (like athleisure in a way??), casual, and cute. Weirdly my casual style is like 90′s grunge without the distressing or all the black. Think maybe 90′s grunge shirts/pants/shoes/ etc but in a sunshiney happy way? And also without the black & white striped long sleeves underneath or any grandpa sweaters. Tbh I would wear long sleeves and sweaters 24/7 if I could though I don’t actually match the grunge style for those two. My cute style is like huge sweaters especially pastel with a little k-fashion inspiration?? okay I’m gonna stop lol

A very diverse suburb in Texas! I love Texas and this area I live in

9. What kind of student are you? Very dedicated. I’m good at school. I love learning and I don’t mind studying. I was not super good at math but other subjects I’ve always done well in. I’m very proud of my grades but who knows what will happen because my uni classes are a bit harder this fall.

10. Do you like school? Yes, as I said I love learning! I was homeschooled and that made learning fun. I didn’t have to learn to the test or worry about drama on the daily. Being homeschooled made it hard to get better at math though as my mom stunkkk even worse than me and my engineer dad would make me cry so a patient teacher I wasn’t related to would have been good there

11. Favorite subject

Basically anything without numbers! I love English (not essays though but I’m gonna major in English so RIP lol) and history most! Science was good when numbers weren’t involved.

12. Favorite TV Shows Hm I don’t really watch TV currently, usually only youtube channels and dramas. But I loved super hero shows like X-Men Evolution, Avengers: Earth’s Mightiest Heroes, Young Justice, etc. I also always liked detective stuff like Psych and this one cool show called Sue Thomas FB Eye. 

13. Favorite Movies

The Narnia movies, anything in the MCU but especially Cap’s movies, Black Panther, & the new spider man. also Tangled & Moana! I like happy stuff mainly. Entertainment for me is for fun so I don’t want super sad or violent stuff in my life >:(

Scumble, The Chronicles of Narnia (like @nuest-yakjaro I love CS Lewis too), some super unpopular old medieval-fantasy Christian books given to me by a family friend that really influenced me as a person lol, and the Princess Academy Series. Also anything by Margaret Peterson Haddix.

15. Favorite Past-time Writing, language learning, hanging w/ friends online or off

16. Do you have any regrets? Yes. I regret letting insecurity run my life for way too long. And letting fear stop me from speaking up for myself in friendships/relationships. Life is too short.

17. Dream Job Some sort of job where I can be in the publishing field and maybe travel to Korea & China for the job. (Not for kpop/kboo reasons, I loved the cultures before I liked kpop.) But overall a job where I can help people, and use things I’m good at--English/writing, and other foreign languages, with a slightly flexible schedule.

18. Would you ever get married? If I ever found someone I loved enough to, yes. But I truly love being single, it fits me very well and I don’t have a strong desire for romance in my life 

19. Would you like to have kids? I’ve thought about fostering/adopting older kids or teenagers. I love kids, and little kids, but I don’t see how I could raise young ones alone if I do stay single.

20. Do you like shopping? Depends on the item but nowadays yes!

21. Scariest Nightmare You’ve Had

Mostly kidnapping-centric ones as a kid. I don’t get nightmares so much anymore but I do get them about relationships sometimes which are scary in their own way. Like having people I really care for secretly hating me, for example.

Aims for the Summer!

As I’ve mentioned in some other posts, June marks the end of my 2 year stint with the ecommerce company I work with. It was my first job and had so many ups and downs, but I have to say that I’ve learnt a lot from it.

In these 2 years, I don’t think I ever had a proper vacation- the most number of days I took off in a row in two years might be around 3-5 days? Including the weekend.

Since, during my MBA, all out holidays were used for internships, I no longer remember what its like to enjoy a vacation. Or what it is even like to not have something to do.

To be honest, it has been something really eating at me and making me anxious, so I figured I would sit and plan out this July and August. I head off to Uni in September so I want to do a whole bunch of things I have been avoiding and procrastinating for the past two years, using the excuse of time (tbh, I would go to office by 9 and only come back by 8, so I really did have no time, but whatever).

And by plan out, I mean just decide what my aims for these two months are- I’ve been working really hard at not pushing myself and setting unrealistic goals. I’m not including learning to cook and working on the research paper I’m working on because those are assumed things. My aim this summer can be summarised like this- Learn to enjoy things that you need but hated and Learn to enjoy the things that used to bring you joy.

1) Get Back to Reading!

A lot of you were really nice and gave me some good books to read in my earlier post! I’ve taken note of them and I am currently trying to decide which one to read. Fingers crossed, I’m going to start getting back in the habit! When I was younger, and didn’t have much to do in life other than homework and playing, I used to read a book a day. I remember reading the Harry Potter books the day they launched, after waiting in line from 4 am, because I was terrified of spoilers. As I got older, I started de-prioritizing it, even though it brought me joy. My aim for these two months is to get back to reading both fiction and non-fiction, without needing to actually motivate myself. I want it to be something I enjoy, and I hope to do that by making it a habit and reading once a day by the end of these two months!

2) Learn a Language- Korean Edition

There are two languages I have been meaning to learn for the past few years- Korean and Japanese- I wanted to watch dramas and anime without needing the translation (and maybe get into light novels in their original form?). I used to love learning new languages when I was younger and was pretty good at it. Given that Japanese has 3 scripts, I decided I would start with the language with the “easier” alphabet- Korean. I’m using duolingo, but I’ve not made it a habit to work on it regularly. So, this summer, I’m going to work on making this another habit, by dedicating half an hour a day to learning this. Bases on my schedule at Uni, I might increase this time, but the minimum I want to aim at is half an hour.

3) Get Back to Exercising

Another habit I really need to get around to actually making a habit is working out. I have a pretty bad relationship with my body, which I have been trying really hard to work on. My aim these two months isn’t to lose weight, per say (though, to be honest, I kind of do need to lose some weight), as I would rather that be a by product of this than the aim. I want to make myself enjoy working out- so many people have told me that I need to reach this threshold, post which I will automatically start enjoying myself or just naturally start needing it. Fingers crossed on this one!

It's " You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think." Something I try to remind myself everyday.

51. current stresses? Life hahah Nah but seriously a bunch of little nothings. My flat, I am stressed my grades won'T be good this semester. My car ( which is fine and has been for over a month), my cat having difficulties getting used to the new place... Loads of small little things.

53. what is the current state of your hands? They are clean and I just put lotion on them so they smell like vanilla. B But also A mess? Haha Up until two weeks ago I was working not only a very physical job but also one that messed up my hands. I have cuts everywhere on them and even a new scar cause of it. They will be fine in a week or two :)

55. favorite fairy tale? Oh gosh that is a difficult one.... I would probably go with... The little mermaid tho? But it changes depending my mood

57. the three biggest struggles you’ve overcome? Hmm.... That's a good one. Accepting who I am is one of them for sure. Standing up for myself ( I am better at it but still I could improve). Choosing my health over what I was expecting of myself. OVer my plans when I dropped out of uni

That she was too good for me.. To end up with a guy who was a violent narcissistic asshole... I didn't wanna leave him cause I thought that was exactly what I deserved that I could never do better. I did leave him in the end. but yeah...

One on my ankle from whe I fell in the ditch when learning how to bike without the little wheels. ——— woah! wait, was that ELIZABETH OLSEN i just saw walking down mainstreet? no, of course not. that was just JACQUELYN VANCE. they’re TWENTY-SEVEN years old and identify as CISFEMALE. they have been in Alder Heights for TEN YEARS and work as a MAGAZINE EDITOR. i’ve heard they can be OBSTINATE and PEDANTIC on their bad days. but don’t be put off, because JACKIE can also be FERVENT and DISCERNING. no wonder people around here call them the AMARANTH.

born in los angeles, california, jackie grew up very comfortably; both parents are lawyers and during the clinton administration, jackie’s father served as the us ambassador of france. she was nine when they first moved, and was seventeen when her father’s run overseas was finished, and being back home was an interesting transition for her, since she felt like the odd man out considering she’d fallen in love with the french way of life, i guess? she didn’t really want to leave when the time came, but it wasn’t entirely up to her (her least favorite president is w. bush, 3 guesses why lmao) 

instead of going back to la, they moved to alder heights, since her father wanted to continue pursuing a career in government/politics, and it was much closer to dc than la was. her two younger sisters adjusted to life back home a lot easier than jackie did; she wound up completing the last little bit of high school online, since she’d had an accelerated course schedule overseas (she loved school) and would’ve rather been eaten by wolves than go back to public school tbh. she started classes at georgetown uni (rich parents lmao) at seventeen and for awhile, her major was in political science since she had every intention to follow in her father’s footsteps, he was her hero after all

and then somewhere along the line, she realized she didn’t really like political science, she liked having an opinion on and discussing politics, so she moved over into mass communications and her parents weren’t thrilled at all, they totally thought they were going to have a vance legacy and be able to start some family dream team thing and being the oldest, they expected her to be the one to fulfill this, and it definitely started a few fights but they eventually shut up about it just because arguing with her is arguing w a brick wall tbh — they are still slowly coming around, they’re not crazy about it but they still support her, things are Tense, fun times

so she graduated, went on and got her masters, blah blah, fast forward to where jackie finds the job of her dreams at an unnamed, v popular magazine (it’s unnamed bc i want it to be lmao, givE ME TIME but if you need a comparison, think cosmo) and she chased after it hard, like all she wanted to do was be a writer and after spending roughly two years as an assistant, she got promoted to a writer and she loved it, absolutely loved it. got to write about the things she was passionate about, loved the people she worked with, she was living the Dream 

and after a few years of just really, really enjoying her job her higher-ups were like “hey, we’re gonna promote you if you want” and in jackie’s mind she was like, hell yeah, more responsibility, more control, all the things she loves tbh and she took the job as the lifestyle department editor since it was broad and encompassed a lot of the stuff she’d enjoyed writing for and of course, Loved it...to a point

jackie is married to her job, and it’s highkey unhealthy tbh, she’s very very hard on herself and now that she’s moved up in the hierarchy of things she’s beginning to see what they ask of their employees and it’s not always stuff she agrees with? it’s a lot of pressure and she’s beginning to fall out of love with all of it in general, the writing, being responsible for stuff, etc and part of her is like fuck this, i’m over it but at the same time, she’s forcing herself to stick w it because she wants to prove to her parents she can too see their successes in the career path she chose

basically, she’s currently conflicted as hell when it comes to work and is currently a don’t ask, don’t tell type of situation

has begun doing freelance writing on the side?? she doesn’t post or share any of it since most of it is just her rambling and she’s not got that much time to dedicate to it as it is but it’s kinda keeping her sane in the moment and reminding her as to why she loves what she does

her label is the amaranth, one of my faves, which p much means that they’re hard to forget and leave an impression and that’s certainly jackie lmao, she’s got a very strong personality that makes it hard for you to confuse her w anyone else

college friend   —  basically someone that she met back when she was in college and was the first bit of american companionship that she’d had since she was like, nine?? like i said, she started classes at seventeen, and hadn’t really interacted with anyone since she did online schooling for her senior year; this could’ve been a roommate, someone she had a class with, someone that she met on campus and got coffee with, we can talk this one out obviously but you get the gist!

someone who lives near jackie and whether it’s really weird stuff like coming over to ask for some milk to put in their coffee since they’re out and forgot to buy some or they like hang out and have dinner together a few nights a week, switching off and stuff, i think this could be Fun

family friend  —  jackie’s parents are both lawyers and her dad’s been involved in politics for awhile so i can imagine jackie’s gone to her fair share of parties and whatnot, meeting clients and coworkers and all kinds of people so this would ideally be someone she met because their parents were acquaintances/friends; they could’ve met as kids, stayed in touch while jackie was overseas and resumed their friendship years later when the both of them found themselves back in dc, they could’ve met on the more recent end of things, they could totally understand the other’s pain and get along gr8 because someone finally gets it, they could lowkey hate each other bc their parents are rivals/ they’re trying to work through it...the possibilities are endless

and while i’m on the topic of past connections: jackie occasionally had to come back to the us and visit dc while her dad was serving as ambassador (aged 9-17) so if you’re interested, we can totally work something with that

a plot where they’re acquaintances at best, they’ve maybe got mutual friends and therefore they hang out a bit but they’re always arguing w one another for whatever fucking reason, they both probably annoy each other but they’ve got mad sexual tension going on?? maybe they act on it, maybe they don’t, but either way, they lowkey enjoy the bantering and being at one another’s throats even if they act otherwise

i haven't really used my sketchbook for like over a year now but i still bring it with me wherever i can, maybe in the hope that i'll use it again at some point

if i do draw anything by hand it's usually on a loose sheet of paper that i carry in my clipboard case. also useful to have for any papers i might pick up while i'm out

i carry around earplugs and athletic tape/bandaids for taiko, since they're small enough that i can leave them in my bag (and bandaids are useful in general). on sundays i bring my taiko bachi and shinobue to practice

my phone case is a wallet case which i use to carry more frequently-used cards like my ID, metrocard, and primary credit card, but i keep another wallet in my bag where i leave cash/coins, other IDs, credit/debit cards, insurance info, membership/stamp cards, etc

an absurd number of books/artbooks/doujinshi/comics. an entire wall of my room is dedicated to books

currently a bunch of moving boxes that i haven’t finished unpacking yet and probably won’t finish unpacking for years tbh

a few real plants and a few fake plants :P i like the idea of a room full of plants but i can only take care of so many and i'm not really opposed to supplementing with fake ones, especially in hard-to-reach places

a fledging little bokuaka shrine that i have many grand ambitions for......

okay wait i’m really excited about this because i recently moved into a new apartment and one of my goals for my room was to make a cozy little under-bed nook but this ended up being a lot more complicated than originally imagined and took like a month of wrangling with furniture weight capacities/materials/budget/help from my ex-structural engineer dad but i finally did it and it’s great

my dad is an ordained reverend (and so am i)

i sort of collect cute candy packaging -- i was pretty intentional about it in early high school, then recently dug up my old collection while moving to my new apartment and instead of doing the sensible thing and throwing it out i ended up keeping it

other things i casually collect: postcards, playing cards, cool hats, cool socks, knives, artbooks, doujinshi, stickers, am i a collector or just a hoarder

things i seriously considered majoring in while i was at uni: english, computer science, psychology, film, religious studies, astronomy (of them all, i probably went the furthest with astronomy). the main reason i ended up doing art wasn’t because i particularly wanted to, but because i ended up spreading myself too thin trying to do everything while also consistently taking at least one art class a semester so it ended up being the only subject i had enough credits in to complete with minimal suffering

i really like singing! i wouldn’t say i’m particularly good or bad at it, but i love going to karaoke, and in high school i spent a lot of my time participating in amateur online song cover groups and learned a bit about audio mixing while i was at it. i’ve posted a few covers on tumblr in the past, but it’s been over a year since my last one so a lot of people probably don’t know about it. i’d like to do more at some point, but it might be harder now that i’ve moved to an apartment (bonus: i live right across from a railway line)
