I can’t stop thinking about Sterek and a Stilinski sister who is Derek’s beta and how that might look. So here’s a short and ill-conceived brain worm I just vomited into space.

Stiles asked when he came home from work and found her, hours later, curled in a ball on her bed, eyes red-rimmed and puffy, even though he knew perfectly well what had happened because Derek had told him and Scott had told him and Isaac had asked if anyone had told him. He owed it to her to hear her side, even with all those witnesses telling it the same way.

She glared up from under her eyelashes. "You're going to take his side anyway," she said bitterly, and he shrugged.

"Possibly. Tell me anyway."

"He flipped out."

"Why?"

"See, you think it was my fault."

"I'm giving you the chance to tell me what happened. If I don't know your side, I can't make an informed decision."

"Decision about what?"

"About whether I'm pissed off at you or not."

"I'm tired of everyone bossing me around. Treating me like a kid."

"You're the youngest member of the pack."

"I KNOW that, Stiles. Doesn't mean I'm completely incompetent."

"No one thinks that."

"HE does. He won't even let me do totally safe Pack things. That's all I wanted, to go with Scott and Isaac on one little mission."

"He's protective. That's his job as an Alpha. As YOUR Alpha."

"He's not like that with the others."

"The others are older, more experienced, and not my little sister."

"That's not my fault. I didn't ask you guys to hook up!"

"True statement. But here we are. And being the youngest, AND the newest, AND my little sister comes with burdens like overprotective Pack members. Scott wouldn't have let you go either."

"SCOTT wouldn't have flipped out on me, though."

"Derek flipped out on you."

"Yes."

"Details, please."

"I just respectfully asked him if he would give me a chance to prove myself."

"And he said..."

"He said no."

"And you said..."

"I said it wasn't fair."

"Which isn't exactly the most mature argument, but what ELSE did you say?"

Deep sigh. "He pushed me to this point."

"What did you say?"

"You had to be there to get all the finer points."

"What. Did. You. Say?"

Long pause. Brown eyes beseeching. "I said he had no right to cut me out of Pack stuff just because he's fucking my brother."

"You said this to your Alpha."

"Yes."

Stiles slapped his palms down on both knees and stood from the bed. "Well, I've decided."

"Let me guess."

"You deserved every single smack."

"Stiles!"

"I love you, I'm sorry you're feeling bad, I understand why you're upset. But you totally deserved to have your ass handed to you, and if you don't apologize to him before this night is out, I will personally request a repeat performance. Clear?"

"But.."

"Are we clear?"

"Yes, fine, clear. You're as bad as he is."

"And don't you forget it, sister."

I'm a pre-T trans man. I have been a victim of misogyny, because I was, y'know, seen as a woman for the first sixteen years of my life, and still have to deal with some of its forms every so often- toxic masculinity is a byproduct of misogyny, after all.

Now I'm mostly seen as a man by people I interact with- I still present as a woman when leaving the house for safety reasons, but I can always bank on the stupid little christian girl disguise getting me out of trouble if, say, someone takes issue with something I say and throws a fit. I have an out- it requires reinforcing misogyny, sure, but if it's that or coming out to a cop, I know which one I'm taking, and that's damn near the only situation I'm pulling it out for, because I hate that mask- it's what was forced on me most of my life, after all.

The fact that there's so many other trans men who'd rather completely accept that bioessentialist role of hapless victim, incorporate it into their daily lives and identity as men, then twist it into a weapon against trans women is fucking disgusting- and I don't know if it makes me more sad or angry that so many of them somehow don't seem to realize that's what they're doing, particularly the slew of literal teenagers who have decided their hill to die on is attacking trans women for talking about their experiences on their own blogs.

Are a lot of them bitter and mean? Well, duh- I was a bitter asshole at 13, when everyone I knew was constantly making cracks at me not being a real person, just a narcissist, a robot, dozens of other names hurled at me simply for existing, but mostly people just thought I was a bitch who didn't know her place. Turns out when a bunch of teenagers are yelling at you for existing, you probably don't feel like being very nice to them- I held my head up, learned to enjoy my own company, and contented myself with being smarter than them.

I got to grow up, realize I'm a man, and escape that cycle- no, I don't pass, but I put a male name and my personality disorder in my bio, and most people either don't care, or block me and vague about narcissists getting too comfortable. Either way, I don't have to deal with them.

Trans women do not get that privilege- every move they make is scrutinized, and sooner or later, someone will find something they can interpret as being just a bit too haughty and crack down on her with all the righteous fury of a Texan calling the police on someone for being topless inside their own home. Yes, that's a crime here, if you have a window in the front of your house. I mean, what if there's a child walking by with binoculars? Obviously, we can't have children knowing bare breasts exist, then they might think having a body isn't a sin.

You can be a man and not be a misogynist- but if you can't accept that trans women are women, and are thus affected by misogyny, you will never succeed in breaking the cycle- all you'll do is reinforce it.

Ignorance is only bliss for the ones with their eyes closed- and trans women and other transfeminine folks have been the ones thrown under the bus time and time again for far too long.

I find "If you follow the time metric of any given atom, it is unknowable and pseudo random" to be an entirely unsatisfying answer to the question of "What day of the year is the anniversary of the big bang?" The answer does not actually answer the question in question but because it contains a lot of big words it looks like it does.

Time metrics of everything vary depending on what sort of gravitational field they're in, something that we have an incredibly successful model of in general relativity. The question of how old the universe is does not depend on questions of "how has a specific atom experienced it" it is a question about how old the universe is, which is much better defined by understanding things like the expansion of spacetime and inflationary cosmology rather than trying to apply general relativity principles to a bunch of quantum particles, those two domains famously do not play well together.

I actually think that the person who said, effectively "Our uncertainty about the exact age of the universe is significantly larger than one year, so there is no reason to believe that the anniversary of that is a known or possibly even knowable quantity." was demonstrating a lot more understanding of the question by asking it than someone who wanted to have Maxwell's demon slap a bunch of clocks on atoms as a way of measuring it.
