W Day 2022: Well, Well, Well

This is just a lil babey thing because I am very tired and dead inside but I tried to get a nice variety of W in there we got: walking, wire, wrists, well, water, and winter! But like I said it’s very short 😔

It was just walking.

And yet here he was, fallen to his knees, the snow soaking through his thin pants, bound hands clenched into fists in front of him, his new owner tugging at the rope attached to the sharp wire tied around his wrists.

“C’mon, get up, slave, or is immortality really not all it’s cracked up to be?” Castys shot her a bored glare. No, it was not. People always thought he was oh-so special, but he was just a fucking guy. Who came back to life when you stabbed him. But still. It didn’t make him any better at walking behind a horse for days on end in the snow with threadbare clothes and barely anything to eat. If he’d been allowed to fucking die at some point, yeah, he wouldn’t be so damn tired, but as it was, he was freezing and sore and his feet were blistered and his wrists were bleeding and fuck you Castys you just have to deal with it.

He took too long getting up, so, hooray, there was a sharp jerk of the rope, forcing him up, a finger tapping the wire, lighting magic coursing through it, his teeth clenching around the gag shoved in his mouth as his knees almost gave out again. But they managed to do their job this time. Or maybe not? Was it knees’ job to not bend? They seemed like they were supposed to bend. So then they…didn’t do their job? Sure. Whatever.

He kept walking. How fucking far were they going to go? Why did every damn step have to send little pain spikes up his legs? Why was he still able to feel his freezing fingers even though they were freezing they should be numb this wasn’t fair why weren’t they numb? His nose was numb, which was maybe good, but it was also very runny, which was not good, but he had sleeves, so that wasn’t that much of a problem, except for the fact that repeatedly wiping it on the rough fabric was making it even more irritated, so in the end that whole situation sucked. Not that the whole everything didn’t also suck, but, you know.

Finally, the sun disappeared behind the horizon, which meant he could stop fucking walking and just shiver while tied to a tree, which was…preferable? He fell asleep under his shitty blanket sometimes. However, there were no trees here that he could see. Just an old well. Which his owner pulled him over to. He didn’t like where this was going.

“I think this is the best way to make sure you stay put.” She looked down, gripping Castys’s arm tightly enough that both of them would end up in the well if he pushed her. “There’s a little water down there, but I don’t think it’s deep enough that you’ll drown. But if you do, it’s not like it matters. But who knows, maybe you’ll freeze,” she laughed, giving him a shove. Castys tried to keep his balance, but he was so weak and tired from all the walking and shit that he didn’t know why he even bothered. She practically threw him in, and while he thankfully didn’t hit anything on the way down, the water, with its thin lil layer of ice on top, did basically nothing to cushion his fall. He landed on his side hard, not enough to break anything, but enough to be really fucking painful.

Before he even had a chance to try and sit up, the rope tied to his wrists jerked upwards, pulling until he was sitting with his arms slightly above his head before finally stopping. “I just secured the rope so I can pull you up in the morning,” she called to him. “Sweet dreams down there!” Castys did his best to glare up at her in response, but she was already gone, probably making a warm fire and setting up her tent and crawling into her comfortable bedroll. While he was down here. Sitting in freezing water at the bottom of a fucking well, the wire around his wrists cutting into the skin.

Mild controversy yesterday that Ice Queendom got released on Crunchyroll hours before it came out on RT’s official site, meaning the people with an RT First subscription got screwed over. a semi-shitpost """review""" of the Mad Max series

despite knowing full well that Mad Max 2 is the best of the series I decided to watch the rest of the Mad Max movies, so here's a half-shitpost half-genuine mini ””””review”””” /me trowing opinions no one asked for because why not (and because on serious note, you should be critical of the media you consume.). also spoilers. If anyone ever sees this post: don't take it too seriously.

Mad Max 1: Surprisingly good writing and composition. My favourite aspects of it were Max wanting to quit his work as a cop even before his friend Goose (a cop too) is killed by Toecutter's gang, some social critique there. I also liked the atmosphere of the landscapes. It made me sad though (the plot is pretty much a lose-lose situation for all parties involved), a little too nihilistic for me. But overall it was good and enjoyable and a classic. 6/10, 6.5-7/10 if I'm feeling good.

Mad Max 2/Road Warrior: Even a summary wouldn't do this masterpiece of a film justice but to put it simply it just slaps. Surprisingly memorable characters and plot for an action movie, sexy vehicles and destructive action, beautiful composition and music and great pacing, just lots of personality and artistry (nothing compares to Humungus and his leather fetish biker gang sorry that's just a fact).There is a reason this film is so influential and pretty much birthed the post-apocalypse genre. Its just THAT good. One of these faves I never get tired of, a comforting piece of media and just one of my favourite pieces of work period. 10/10 just absolute genius. A classic a legend a masterpiece a-(ok you get the picture)

Mad Mad 3/Beyond Thunderdome: The tamest of the series, and probably the reason so many hate it. But I enjoyed it, I like the idea of all these post apocalyptic ”societies”, lots of fun action potential in the thunderdome itself too. Wholesome message at the end. A little ”off” at times but overall enjoyable and aesthetically pleasing. Solid 6/10.

Mad max 4/Fury road: Words cant describe how much I despise this one. Its not bad. Its not even bad in a so bad its good sense. Its fucking diarrhea shit sprinkled with vomit and infections. Not because its new or anything. Different doesn't equate to bad. Its just that this movie is a prime example of ”style over substance”. Its the longest of the films...and yet its like nothing actually happens in it. The dialogue made me roll my eyes and/or cringe most of the time, the action is just shit flying at the screen so there is no actual tension or investment, everything is just try-harding and stupid. Unironical shitstorm of capitalism/10

Thoughts on the franchise as a whole

Weirdest (in a good way) series of films in I've seen. Despite being a somewhat ”chronological” series each movie is its own story and has its own unique feel (regardless of it working or not), which is good. Wouldn't consider myself a mad max fan but since I've seen them all now I can and will gladly discuss the movies whit other fellow fans (and no, I'm not going to shit on you if you like like fury road despite me hating it. I'm not that kind of ”fan”). But I will say that I'm a BIG fan of mad max 2 specifically,so if anyone ever wants to chat about it with me be glad to do it. Overall i acknowledge the cultural impact of the series and i think its an ok franchise.

Some personal preferences and headcanons

-Since each of the movies is its own story (for example, you don't need to necessarily watch mad max 1 to understand mad max 2) I like to believe that you, as an spectator, can decide what really counts as the real continuity or ”official story”.

I personally like the idea that the story of Max ends after the events of Mad Max 2, and after all the gang bullshit Max's been trough he just manages to build a little cottagecore house in the middle of the wasteland and spends the rest of his life healing his numerous traumas with gardening and custom car building (iIshould write a fanfic lmao). So uuh yeah i don't consider mad max 3 and max max 4 to be ”canon”, or maybe they're canon in an alternate universe or something. This is what I believe in, but everyone who sees these films can create their own take on them and that's awesome.

-Relating to that previous idea, Max himself is a bit of a wasteland urban legend in-universe. Some mysterious wasteland hero who may or may not be real.

-Despite the series being called Mad Max, I feel like Sad Max is a more fitting name.

-Almost everyone in Mad Max 1 is a shitposter, specially the Toecutter and Goose.

-Lord Humungus is Max's direct narrative foil. Both cool, clever men with militaristic backgrounds and a fixation on vehicles and leather, who lose everything when the world goes to shit. Also they both are the only ones with guns, max has a worn shotgun while Humungus has a more elegant pistol. The key difference is that Max keeps at least some of his humanity while Humungus doesn't. Other differences are that of Humungus being more of a strategic team leader while Max is more likely to be a ”pawn” or work alone.

-Relating to the previous idea, if Max and Lord Humungus were to talk about their similar traumas and shared interest in cars i think they would bond and become really good friends. Lovers, even. Shipping potential there.

-The interceptor is a really sexy car, specially whit its rust and fat gasoline tanks in road warrior.

-Ironically enough, despite fury road being the longest and most dialogue heavy of the movies, its characters are shallower than the ones in the previous films.

-Aunty Entity got the idea to create Thunderdome while she mused about wresting. She's a fan of wrestling. I also believe she keeps some sort of karaoke night at Bartertown once in a while, she's fond of singing. Most artistic expressions, really.

-The core message of the Mad Max series (or at the very least of Mad Max 2) is about finding love and understanding and humanity in a broken world.

the firm works only with significant figures in society and they’re well known for winning cases--regardless of whether they’re on the morally right side or not

anthony himself took a different path and became a renowned neurosurgeon in the US, considered an expert on the brain and spine

his younger brother is heavily involved in the FBI, though nobody is sure of his position

they had met briefly during kingswood, anthony a senior and eleanor a freshmen--it wasn’t until she moved to california that they met again many years later, anthony only in town for a medical convention

when the children were all too much, eleanor and the nannies sort of just...left them to their own? they resided in an old victorian-esque mansion with a backyard leading into the forest; almost fairy-tale like

lilah often found herself in the forest, playing snow white on her own because rhys always refused (he enjoyed hitting things with sticks) and laurel only wanted to pick flowers and stay close to the house

when lilah was seven things took a turn for the worse

anthony had cheated on eleanor with a nurse six years prior, and the past had come back to haunt him.

it was soon revealed, after an unfortunate accident involving the other woman, that she had left behind a child whose father was listed as the one n only anthony harlow

he took the child, a girl named ramona, in. she was laurel’s age, with only a few months difference

this broke eleanor--she was heartbroken, but remained married to anthony for the sake of the children.

never treated ramona as her own, and lilah took after her mother (and her brother--who also was incredibly against the idea of having another sister); becoming relentlessly mean to the younger girl

eleanor began to drink herself away to deal with the misfortunes that had struck her, which only worsened her temper (which was...only directed towards ramona)

it was during these years that lilah went from a normal nightmare child at both school and home--to an extreme nightmare child. she took things when she wanted, stopped listening to adults, normal child-acting-out things.

around the same time that it was all happening, lilah found herself running through the woods more often--simply to get away from the drama of it all

most of the time she was always alone; nobody roamed the forest, despite several other homes having the same backyard situation as hers

‘course, one particular day, lilah found that she wasn’t alone

she ran across a boy of similar age, who had gotten his foot stuck in a rabbit hole. when asked his name, he called himself ‘fox’ and that was all. this, to a young child, was perfectly acceptable and lilah deemed herself as ‘sparrow’--unsure as to if his name was really fox, or if he was making it up

after freeing him from the hole, they soon deemed themselves best friends for life.

they played princess and knight until the sun set, then they’d part ways until the next day

these adventures became lilah’s safe haven--even as she got older, and meaner--fox was one of the few people who she showed kindness towards. part of it was because of the mystery of the boy, and part of it was because lilah was, well, lonely. 

feared at school, the kids who were her friends were only her friends because they were scared of her. or they were her sister, who didn’t really count

despite her popularity status, lilah hated school. words never formed correctly on the paper, and she struggled immensely with reading, though she tried her best to hide it

the only subject she enjoyed was art, tbh

rhys also acted out a tons and got into a bad crowd of boys; they would terrorize the younger kids and vandalize mailboxes. y’know, just little baby crooks in the making

eleanor stopped taking care of the kids, she often locked herself away in the bedroom, leaving the nannies to care for the children when needed

lilah never saw her mother, only heard her; breaking glasses or falling down in the halls late at night, or a shout towards ramona

laurel and ramona soon got closer, the more lilah pushed her family away by playing fantasy in the woods, and by the time their mother died--laurel didn’t want much to do with lilah or rhys

eleanor died when rhys was 13, lilah 12, laurel and ramona 11

her body couldn’t handle it anymore; anthony found her body, sprawled across their kingsized bed with a shattered wine glass and pearls scattered around the sheets. romantically gruesome.

the funeral was filled with distant relatives that all mourned eleanor, as if they had been crucial parts of her life--though perhaps they had been, lilah never knew much of her mother’s side of the family. there were old costars, neighbors, family friends, and a distinct closing of lilah’s throat at the stuffiness of it all. the air stank of death and roses.

she had left early, finding herself in the woods once more.

and there was fox, as he always was. it was the only time lilah had ever felt secure.

but, soon after the funeral, anthony decided to pack up and move the family out of the state. there were only bad memories in pennsylvania, so they moved to massachusetts.

lilah never got to say goodbye to fox. it is one of her few regrets

and a few months after that, rhys began attending kingswood to wreck havoc there instead

(he got into some shit, but always talked his way out of it; always a troublemaker yet somehow made his way into edward house his junior year. probably for the drugs he sells. is currently a senior)

So- I read Pillow Talk and really loved it. I was wondering, do you have any Magnus heacanons that are your favorite?

for magnus headcanons, get ready lmao bc i have a LOT

- magnus drinks tea. more specifically chai with less milk and cinnamon (just bc i do too lol)

- harry has the tiniest hint of an accent right, so I love thinking of magnus slipping into ancient languages (which he does canonically) and never quite dropping that way of speech bc imo its cute and i love it

- religion: oh boy i’ve thought about this a lot. what I sort of despise is this assumption that Magnus celebrates christmas or just partakes in all western christian traditions bc the shadowhunters are assumed to, even though downworlders are specifically an analogy for other cultures races and religions. so by his actual age, I’d say he was probably raised buddhist/hindu or an ancient religion influenced by those two (no way my boy does not have a little laughing buddha somewhere in his loft). if it’s a modern au, I’ve really not seen much of what magnus would probably be - which is muslim. again, a mainly white fandom afraid to explore religions and cultures or hamfistedly writing about them makes for a very shallow exploration of his religion.  i assume he’d celebrate christmas with ragnor but by himself? nah, i dont see it

- now that I’m on the religion tangent, I just think about it so much. how does he come to terms with being bisexual? how does his religion (i only have knowledge of hinduism and buddhism) help or harm him in discovering that? does he ever approach religious figures (priests etc) and beg for forgiveness or change? i think magnus has definitely read the gita, mahabarata, or the sutras. I’ve read some of the gita and the sutras and Oh man is that some shit to read when you’re literally figuring yourself out from the ground up. there’s also evidence of transgender figures and same-sex relationships in these texts specifically, so he probably really clings to them

- he also had a wild-child period lasting an entire century bc like why not? flirting with married women, sleeping with people wildly older than him - just generally being reckless with substances like drugs and alcohol. he doesn’t grow out of it until much later

- also, makeup. eyeliner (or kajol) is another cultural thing for south/southeast asians. typically we’d put it on young children to ward away evil spirits. does that have any connection with how he wears his eyeliner now - which is very smudged and reminds me of how a south asian person would apply itagain, his relationship with makeup and clothes. where did his love of finery come from? the rings he wears remind of the way literally every uncle I’ve met wears rings - thick and chunky, often with birthstones. 

- i picture him as a loner type, sort of a writer (not a poet) - someone who just soaks in the details and keeps it in his mind for later

- and for magnus as a person, I’ve discussed this with @menckenschrestomethy before but like, for a very white writers room, magnus is very asian in the way he speaks. for example, he’s got this very interesting way of saying things without divulging any important information - basically how i’d share personal details myself (I won’t) 

- for example, he often just trails off and never says things ‘explicitly’ like in 2.07 when he was discussing how he felt about having sex too soon, he never says the word ‘sex’ after “I’m afraid if we…” hell, I even expected him to say ‘being intimate’ which is literally the tamest way to discuss it and he didn’t! 

- which brings me to my biggest headcanon which has so far been proven true: magnus is the most private person in the world. he just does…not….tell people anything. which I can definitely relate to, asking me to share my feelings or details is like pulling teeth. I also think he does not trust the shadowhunters (not even alec) with some of the things he’s going through, since most of s1 and s2a has been focused on alec’s side of things, i can only imagine that magnus’ main issue would be being unable to express that he needs help

he’s the youngest of four, and has a helluva a lot to live up to. all of his siblings stick to the spotlight and both of his parents run a highly successful business but he just wants to live his life nd make a comic, or a trillion.

he’s a #vegan, and will fight you if you try to make him change his ways.

he’s also a feminist, nd rallies for diversity and better education .. nd all that good stuff, but refuses to join politics bc?? .. nobody knows, probably bc he thinks they are scum, maybe bc hes too busy with other stuff.

his last name comes w an ego, literally his entire family is up their own ass. he’s the tamest one tho, like he KNOWS he’s hot nd intelligent nd rich, but he doesn’t boast about it.

he’s messy and reckless, and just .. a big bag of trouble. most likely to punch someone for having an ugly opinion, wracks up detentions like its nobodys business, leaves class unannounced bc the teachers voice puts him to sleep .. genuinely just a dick??

but he’s actually rlly intelligent? and a lot of things ppl would consider boring genuinely interest him. he absorbs useless facts like a sponge, tbh. 

a giant cynic? literally hates society as a whole and thinks the rivalry is the stupidest shit he’s ever heard of, honestly.

 is at least 25% sarcasm. 

loves dogs with all of his heart and soul, and whenever he sees one he gets one of those hope for the world smiles across his face where u can genuinely see his dimples. he volunteers at the animal shelter often bc he loves those fluffballs so much nd would probably die for them??? probably.

he’s not too big on relationships, and tends to just sleep around whenever he feels the need to do so. he’s just the opposite of soft, and doesn’t see a long-lasting relationship in his future.

he’s actually only half a delaurier, bc his father isn’t who everybody thinks. his mother slept around a lot and still sort of does? but, shh, he literally knows nothing about this.

he uses his allowance to buy watercolors and weed, tbh.

I’m trying to watch Buzzfeed Unsolved and Ghost hunting is the tamest shit I ever seen. I just watched Ryan over a light coming and that was only evidence. Ike this the most boring ghost hunt I ever seen.

Ghost Adventures does it better lmao. Like I know both shows are fake but at least Ghost Adventures goes hard & more entertaining than two men yelling at a light.
