to be specific to terraliens, the staff has always been terrible with criticism, theyre only just now taking the steps to have more member feedback on decisions through the google forms which i will give points for

but for as long as i can remember with the species, its a very “youre with us or against us” mentality; either you have criticism (and a brain) or you whiteknight for the mods (and there is a LOT of whiteknighting) and the people with criticism usually got dogpiled

remember when the architechals situation first dropped and nobody was allowed to talk about it? when imvibez (the main person who basically said “sooo are we gonna just sweep this under the rug?”) was shut down and even muted in the server for daring to “ruin the positive vibe” like???

as for my personal opinion (yall might hate me for this) i think the terraliens staff and community are just way too sensitive. if you ever have some sort of issue with the way things are run, its “why dont you make a ticket, this shouldnt be discussed here” or “wow this is getting a little heated, we should cut this off,” but frankly i dont think that all criticism should be some quiet thing that happens in the backrooms of the server. if you ever say anything negative about how slow approvals are, or how staff should really be working on the base foundations of the species instead of posting personal art in the staff-wip channel (seriously go check it out, the only real species related stuff theyve posted is just concepts for more dumb forageables nobody asked for), you have SEVERAL people who will leap down your throat at a moments notice: “but they work so harrrrddddd you have no idea how difficulttttt it isssss we love the mods theyre doing such a great jobbbbb,” listen, if you cant handle doing the work required to handle a community like this, then you shouldnt be doing it. running a species is a thing you CHOOSE to do voluntarily, at some point you need to suck it up and accept that shit needs to get done. its like those parents that have a kid and act surprised when a baby is hard work. people need to stop cutting off any sort of critique and stop derailing to suck mod dick, it’s infuriating and just silences people and it means that nothing will ever get better because youre too stuck in your echo chamber to let someone get criticized for once.

its like if you went to your job and you and all your coworkers said “hey i think we should be paid more,” then your boss responds “whoa whoa were kind of getting heated here, why dont you come to my office one by one,” then they can just say no. thats why critiques and discussions should be had out loud and in the open, so others can agree and build on your suggestion, and maybe for those who are too afraid to speak up alone (because lets be fr, terra staff are extremely petty and passive aggressive) will be able to voice their opinion if they know they wont be immediately ostracized

also, another thing that’s tangentially related, gotta love how FAST they quietly took away the suggestion threads that were fought so hard for. just another way they can silence criticism because now, nobody else will see the suggestions besides mods. if someone suggests the perfect solution to a problem, but mods think its too much work to lift their damn fingers and fix it, they can just throw it away and pretend it never existed. fucking amazing.

The main common denominator between species with dedicated vent blogs are staff and owners who shut down any and all feedback and criticism. Another commonality is being ban-happy against members for minor slights.

Wyngro isn’t as relevant now but in my opinion is a perfectly clear example of this. They made major decisions that upset the majority of their community, and instead of listening or compromising, they banned everyone who spoke out. This happened multiple times until the species inevitably lost its community entirely.

I see this echoed with Succubuns and Terraliens most, which are also the CS with the most active dedicated vent blogs.

If you run a species, and you’re afraid of having it come up on vent blogs? The biggest thing you can do is learn to take criticism well. Someone saying they think your species could use more FTO-friendly mechanics isn’t personally attacking you. Someone saying that MYO approvals are too nitpicky and inconsistent isn’t trying to insult you.

Obviously, sometimes, even species that do their best will end up on vent blogs if they piss off the wrong person, but in the end, pissing off one person who posts one vent or leaves your species individually is better than pissing off an entire community to the point where they make a whole dedicated blog to let out the criticism you refuse to accept face-to-face.

hi, uh, I've never posted anything here but I've been reading the recent posts and stuff relating to toc. I own the character who was depectied in the uhh,, art,, and I just thought maybe I'd speak a little bit of my own mind and try and lighten things on the situation- I mean no harm by what I'm saying whatsoever and understand both viewpoints- I'd just really like to say a few words. I do not intend to offend anyone further I'd really just like to have a sensible conversation. I apologize before hand for anything I might say but please understand I am not trying to attack anyone, I am simply just using harsh ways to Express myself because this has made me upset. I have emotions too.

First off, uh, I completely and utterly understand that the imagery was triggering and could be percieved in horrible ways, and I AGREE. there should've been a trigger warning, which as much as I love castro, I have to admit was a big mistake, and did deserve at least some forum of punishment- but I feel as if those who up and got offended didnt take into consideration the context of the images or story- I understand seeing that is harmful and you didnt like it. I really am. But in no way, shape, or forum, was it ever RELATED to s*icide, MENTIONED s*icide, or IMPLIED s*icide, or anything of the sort whatsoever. It was simply interpreted that way because someone just really needed to be upset about it. N**ses are NOT inherently related to s*icide, and just because you're too offended to READ the fucking CONTEXT, you go and post about it on a stupid CAT APPS COMPLAINING TUMBLR to get a bunch of people angry at a group I honestly cherish and respect with a lot of my heart, especially castro, who I believe to be a good friend of mine. What if you saw a n**se on a boat, huh? Does that trigger you? Are you gonna go complaining to all your friends about how this boat offended you? I dont think the art shouldve been posted without a warning, and I wouldnt have posted it in general, but bashing an artist for drawing something and wanting to post the content for others to see is very discouraging, as well as you guys seem to be blatantly ignoring things weve been trying to tell you just to fuel your own childish rage because a cat picture made you upset. I am not saying castro should get off scott free. She made a mistake. Tldr: yes, castro made a huge mistake but please understand it was a MISTAKE and they have apologized for it, as well as some people completely ignored the context to be angry about it. wonder why we've deemed mountain bad? cuz at least 60% of them, "kyman queen" included, support, romanticize, enable, & even fetishize cartman's abuse! yeah, being actively antisemitic, even casually, while in a relationship with a jewish person is abuse!

the stance of most tie-pines, at least the ones in my friends & mutuals circle, is that cartman needs to unlearn his antisemitism to be able to be in a healthy relationship with kyle, and to, hell, deserve him in the first place. that's our view on that.

countless mountains do not see the harm in letting cartman continue to be bigoted! why the fuck would you pair a jewish character you supposedly like with a character that continues to view him through an inhuman lense. yall do realize that's how cartman views jews within canon, right? everytime you let him affectionately call kyle "jew" in a fic, that's cartman calling kyle a word he canon associates as meaning stupid or an asshole - like how old white dudes view the f slur. it's casual hatred out of cartman's mouth, even when he supposedly loves kyle in fics or even art. not to mention ww2 aus are entirely a mountain fap sesh. ive seen many denounce them, but the fact is, only mountains seek them out or write them at all. & i shouldnt have to explain why romanticizing genocide is problematic lmao.

so why why why would you encourage that kyman dynamic? if you're yummy, i get why (we've talked to her several times, she thinks her white boyfriend calling her, a latina woman, slurs is totally acceptable, & she also thinks oppression isn't real and neither is the golden rule, so she's a lost cause lmao), but otherwise, don't you have the decency to go, "hey, okay, things spiraled outta hand & got accidentally super hostile, but maybe i should make an effort to research & learn & ultimately portray kyle & deal with kyman in a way that's not harmful, out of respect"? just bc it's the right damn thing to do?

anyway, the height and top/bottom shit and even kyle's features in art are all related to this.

see, i don't mind tall cartman. i mind that nearly every damn person who likes cartman tall, also likes him having power & control over kyle, which makes me very uncomfortable, given their canon nature.

i don't mind bottom kyle either! realistically, they'd switch! but i don't like how bottom kyle is portrayed by mountains. it feels cheap, yaoi-inspired, and, above all, antisemitic, once again! you're taking an iconic jewish character & stripping him of his personality, of his features, to exaggerate one or two of the attractive or endearing ones (his ass, his apparently-cutesy anger lmao), so he's easier to wack off too. it's just gross to me.

and finally, similar deal with his facial features. mountains (and i've been speaking generally this whole time; not all do this) have a very specific view of kyle that i feel is not canon and that, more importantly, erases his jewishness heavily. erasure is a form of antisemitism. deciding that his canon big nose and his canon fro hair don't fit the prettyboy look you want him to have, is antisemitism.

i know for a fact that lai & all my other close friends agree with me nearly word for fucking word, we've discussed this repeatedly. and guess what? some of my friends do like mountain! they like top cartman, they like short kyle. but guess what? they do it respectfully, so i trust them. i don't mind it.
