katrin started out as a trollsona who i doodled on some leftover pages during a literature exam, and then i thought id rp her for shits and giggles. she wasnt meant to be a serious character, but i got attached to her and liked seeing the interactions she was having with other trolls so she very quickly became her own separate character. her personality started out being an incredibly exaggerated version of my own shyness and anxiety, but everything else developed as a result of her interactions with others. she gained hobbies through her being interested in what her friends were up to, while things like her greed and stab-happy nature started out as silly quirks that soon became the primary parts of her personality.

then a Whole Lot Of Fuck Shit Happened which morphed kat into the disaster she is today. honestly like 80% of her character development was completely out of my control, since she’d just get involved with shit and i’d just write her responses and try to figure out wtf to go from there. while it was definitely a good learning experience for me cuz i’d never really rped or done any extensive writing before mspaf and it made kat a much better character than how she started, i don’t think i could ever do that again lmao. i like keeping a tighter hold on my characters nowadays.

also i think i mentioned this once before, but when i was retconning her interests and stuff to make her a full-fledged character, i made her an author of shitty self-insert fiction to reference her origin. thats a nice fun fact i guess.

aiolos’ origin was just one of those ‘i want a character who does [x]’ ideas, but i don’t remember exactly what his inspirations were. i drew his first design and did a lot of brainstorming in history class, so even tho it has nothing to do with his character i associate him with the time we watched doctor zhivago because we had a substitute teacher and that film was tangentially related to what we were studying. but also i remember seeing this pic in a tf2 photoset and thinking the outfit was cool, and the idea of making a messenger troll spawned from there.

he’s always been a smartass jerk from the beginning, but originally he hated his job and would sabotage people’s parcels and read all the letters for fun. then of course people were like UHHHHH TROLLS DONT HAVE MAIL BECAUSE MAILBOXES DONT EXIST so i scrapped the letter delivery and just made him solely a package delivery boy because goddammit i wanted my mail troll. he was also more of a flirt when i first started rping him but that trait just slowly disappeared over time as i realised that i dont really enjoy writing those sorts of characters. he mellowed out a lot over the years as well (mostly due to getting a moirail) and while he’s still snarky as hell, he’s not actively malicious about it like he used to be.

and also, two fun facts: 1. aio’s outfit is also mostly based on a school uniform because i couldnt draw proper 1920s garb, and 2. he was never interested in video games until he met poludi. now hes my Designated Gamer Troll.

aislin is based off alphys from undertale, since i have a trend of making characters based off indie rpgs i like (see: errett, ananta, and leutia). apart from the obvious ‘shy nerd girl who fuckin loves anime’ aspect from alphys, her main inspiration came from when you backtrack through the game after meeting her and discover that there’s cameras as far back as snowdin. i really liked the idea of a character with surveillance powers, especially someone who looked so ordinary and unassuming but actually had a really terrifying ability. i threw in a couple other undertale references into her character, such as her spearKind strife being a reference to undyne and her pollen allergy being a nod towards the main antagonist of the game being an evil flower. she’s also kind of inspired by bella from rubyquest too, which is more apparent in both her ancestor and her fate in the fleet.

her personality is essentially katrin 2.0. i liked the idea of a character being so painfully shy that they can barely talk to others, and since that no longer applied to kat i wanted to try that again. i became a lot more picky with who i wanted aislin to interact with since i didn’t want to go down the same road twice, and so far it’s been working out well. also i like being able to compare the two since it shows how differently two people could turn out just because they happened to meet different people at different times.

and to continue the trend of me drawing characters in class, i started doodling design ideas for aislin while i was waiting for a law lecture to begin.
