Alex flopped his hand out of his blanket cocoon and tried to find his buzzing phone without opening his eyes. His fingers grazed the recangular shape and he managed to grab it. He swiped his thumb over the screen (hopefully on the right side) and put it to his ear. 

‘Y’ello?’ 

‘Alex you should totally come over right now-’

‘Forrest?’ 

‘Oh yes. Hi, this is Forrest, I know it’s like- oh shit is it that late already? Damn sorry. Uh, right. Well-’

‘Is this a booty call?’ Alex asked, his eyes still closed. He’d recognized Forrest’s voice almost immediately. After that awkwardly amazing slam poetry thing he’d done the other day, his voice seemed to be on loop in Alex’s head. 

‘What? No, no, no. No, that’s not- nope. Look Buffy, my dog? The Slayer?’ Forrest prompted and Alex smiled involuntarily. 

‘I remember your dog. Cute as a button, kinda chunky.’ Heavy as hell. Bad for Alex’s back. 

‘Yeah well, the chunk wasn’t just because she eats too many treats- I mean she does but that wasn’t the only reason- anyways, she’s having puppies. She’s giving birth to puppies. Right now.’ Alex finally blinked his eyes open. 

‘Right now?’ 

‘Yes, and you mentioned the other day that you had been thinking about getting a dog of your own and then I got to thinking, maybe you want a puppy and maybe you would want one of Buffy’s pups. I would totally give you one of my fur babies, you would treat them well, I trust you and that would be so cute, like you could visit Buffy with one of her kids and I’m rambling again because I’m kind of super nervous.’ Alex pushed himself into a sitting position. 

‘You want to give me a puppy?’ He was feeling more awake by the second. 

‘Well, once they’re old enough to leave their mom of course, but yeah.’ He could tell Forrest was grinning. ‘And I realize now that it’s insane to ask you to come and drive out to mine in the middle of the night and I would not have called if I’d realized what time it was, but maybe you would want to come over in the morning? You could meet the wriggly little shits?’ Alex ran a hand through his hair, a little laugh forced its way out of his mouth. 

‘Yeah. Yeah, I’d love to meet the wriggly little shits.’ 

‘Awesome, okay. So I could cook you breakfast tomorrow? 9am maybe? Is that okay?’ 

‘Yes, that sounds great.’ 

‘Good, great. Sorry for calling so late.’ He could hear Forrest flinch. 

‘It’s fine. Puppies are something you are totally allowed to wake me up for.’ Alex smiled. ‘I’ll see you tomorrow morning.’ 

‘Yes, I’ll see you tomorrow.’ Forrest said and then the line went dead. Alex had to just laugh with himself for a second. What a guy.

the untamed ep 8, non-bunny edition

it only took 5 minutes for lxc to show up in the episode but i got so excited when i saw him that it felt like we had just endured a long separation. this is probably his only scene this episode and already i am dreading our time apart. here i stand on my widow’s walk, welcoming my ship captain husband home from his latest transatlantic odyssey, knowing that i can only keep him with me for a short while before the siren call of his one true love, the sea, rips him away yet again from my loving embrace

why isn’t this whole show a split screen, half showing the actual events of the series and the other half showing whatever random stuff lxc is up to? meditating, playing the flute, washing his hair, making wedding planning scrapbooks, whatever. am i just supposed to...not think about him constantly?? sounds fake but okay

so much arm yanking this episode! first with the spell and then at the market (when lwj gets that great look on his face like “but that’s?? MY arm?!??”). it’s always a good time for a firm pull on the ol’ arm if you ask me, and no that is NOT a euphemism for anything thank you very much

i feel like i’ve seen it said that nhs is third-wheeling, and i have to disagree. nhs is not an extraneous person tagging along and getting in wangxian’s way, he’s serving a purpose: he’s there to get wwx to recognize what’s right in front of him. if anything, nhs is a set of training wheels, and once wwx doesn’t need his hints anymore, he can remove himself from the picture and wangxian can two-wheel off into the sunset. unfortunately for everyone involved, wwx takes too long and the bike just crashes instead. whoops

most importantly, he gets to really show off his fan this ep. FINALLY. mr. fan man, man me a fan. man me an effing fan, man!!!!

i imagine that it must have been really fun to shoot this scene. just look at these ghost puppet actors. you can’t tell me they weren’t having the grandest time, banging on the door in the most exaggerated manner, just sort of flailing about in fake slomo making weird noises. they are out here unliving their best un-lives and good for them tbh

okay nobody panic, being attacked by hordes of the undead just means it’s a perfect opportunity for a dramatic rescue. whenever is good for you jiang cheng.  ANY TIME NOW SHIDI!!!

Thoughts on Grey’s Anatomy: 15X3

Owen and Amelia are back together again. I don't love them together, but I no longer hate it either. They actually seem happy together and non-abusive for once so that’s something.

Bailey clearly didn't think through what giving up being Chief of Surgery would mean and that really shone through in this episode. When Link thought Koracick was the new Interim Chief oh boy. Link is not getting on Alex’s good side at all. But his idea was pretty neat! We also learned that Fellows have a lounge on three and that Nico comes to the Interns Locker Room to be around Glasses. They’re so cute!

Welcome Jo Karev! I love this storyline. Krista and the new writers for Season 14 and 15 have taken Jo from being a character I couldn’t stand to one I am rooting for. I felt so bad for her in this episode. She got totally shafted because of Bailey’s snap decision. She made the best of it because she’s awesome, but that doesn’t make it okay. She fought to stay in Seattle and now Bailey is pushing her aside.

I liked that this episode included part of the scenes they filmed in Seattle! I felt bad for the cast and crew wearing fall clothing in summer heat, but they looked good and pulled it off! DeLuca did look awfully good on that bike!

Maggie trying to encourage Amelia to date DeLuca because of Teddy was both hilarious and heartbreaking at the same time. Then watching her try to set Amelia up with Link was just funny and ridiculous. At least Amelia took it in stride. Post-tumour I actually like her. Post-tumour Amelia is focusing on what’s important. She’s actually there for Maggie and Meredith and is genuinely supportive and strong.

One of the biggest revelations of this episode is that Jackson took a leave of absence and didn’t tell Maggie! He told everyone else via mass email. Maggie later picks up a voicemail from him that explains very little and which the audience doesn’t get to hear which is highly suspicious. A friend and I were discussing this after the fact and she had an excellent point. Usually if the actor is available we hear the voicemail or the other end of the phone call. The only times we don’t are when the actor is unavailable or has left the show.

There was no indication prior to this that Jesse Williams would be leaving which leaves the following possibilities in my mind. One, the actor has taken ill temporarily or had a personal issue arise so they had to write him out of a few episodes so that he could recover or deal with the problem. Two, the actor has become part of another project that now needs more of his time or has signed onto a new project and he can’t do both at the same time due to time constraints.

Three, the actor asked for some time off this season for family or personal reasons. Four, the actor is being written off the show in order to pursue other projects or they have decided to write him off for creative reasons. There’s no other information available at this time (that I could find) so we’ll just have to wait and see. However, Jackson doesn’t appear to be in the next episode so that doesn’t bode well.

I like the way Maggie’s character is being written so far this season. They’ve made her more likable, less totally awful, and I can actually relate to her character now. I like that Maggie and Meredith’s relationship is improving. That’s the whole reason she’s in Seattle so the whole ‘Maggie is a terrible sister and Meredith has to put up with all of her crap’ storyline made no effing sense.

I knew from the moment that the nose bleed patient appeared on screen and Vik blew him off that it was going to come back to haunt him. I didn’t realize just how bad it would be though. I liked that we got to see Koracick actually practice medicine! Before this all we had seen was him treat Amelia’s brain tumour but very quickly and from then on he’s being doing research. Roy was once again good for absolutely nothing.

In this episode we get some wise words from Koracick. “A nose bleed that brings a person to the ER is never just a nose bleed.” Very true. Also holds true for any kind of uncontrolled bleeding or persistent reaction as that means your blood isn’t clotting and and there’s some kind of underlining issue that needs to be addressed.

We also get some more information about Koracick here. His scrub cap has ace playing cards on it. A scrub cap is a very personalized item in the show so this means he has an affinity for gambling or playing cards or poker or that it’s literally lucky or it’s meant as a joke as he’s a neurosurgeon. When Vik defied orders to stop compressions and then refused to call the time of death and then literally threw his hands up in the air, threw a tantrum like a five year old, and literally ran out of the OR with two attendings calling after him I was so mad.

His line, “I’m just an intern” made it even worse. Yes you are an intern, but that doesn’t you don’t take responsibility for your actions or that you get to blame everything on inexperience. It’s a teaching hospital you are there to learn not place blame and literally run away screaming. If that’s your reaction under pressure that you can’t do the job. Period. You aren’t cut out for that line of work. Most people aren’t.

That’s why it’s hard and you have to go to school for a long time to work in health care at any level. The attendings take responsibility for the patient too and they talk to the family because they have more experience with it and so that the hospital hopefully doesn't get sued and the family doesn’t press charges. It is meant as a way to save the hospital from the wrath of upset family members not deflect responsibility.

I was happy when Alex FINALLY fired Roy! He so deserves it! There’s no chance of him coming back now. He got out of it the first time by claiming wrongful dismissal because of interaction he shouldn’t have had with marijuana. Webber reprimanded him for not stepping back when he told him to, but didn’t fire him because he was injured and it could be chalked up to a misunderstanding as Vik didn’t know that it was hairspray and it was going to ignite. But this time, as Alex said, Vik lied about treating a patient. He left the patient who had a persistent nose bleed that was gushing blood in the ER for five hours without ever doing a physical exam or ordering labs or alerting the nursing staff to check on them.

As are result of his actions and inactions the patient died. The patient was ignored so it can be presumed that their family wasn’t notified of their admittance and they don’t seem to even have a full name and they have no medical history. Which means they have to track down this person’s name and contact information and then identify their next of kin and contact their family. At which point they will have to inform them that their family member who they didn’t even know was sick has died. They don��t have a choice about firing Vik.

If they don't the patient’s family will most likely come after the hospital for malpractice or come after Vik and have him charged. It’s what we’d all do if someone treated our loved one this way. And no lawyer, no matter how good, is going to be able to argue their mistreated family member back to life. I loved that smirk at the end there! Alex finally did something right that everyone’s been wanting to do.

The shop accident was gnarly! I had to look away for most of it. Webber made treating the shop teacher WAY too personal. That was super problematic. What he did really borders on intimidation. And the patient turns out to have Auto brewery system. It was the jello! Webber was testing a theory, but that doesn’t make it right what he did.

I LOVED the scene between Meredith and Alex. It was classic Grey’s and perfectly encapsulates why they are such good friends. They get each other and are there for each other and inspire each other. And Alex is totally right. Mer has earned the right to pick and choose who she lets in and even if she hasn’t we all deserve to have our wishes and privacy respected in the way that we choose.

I loved Meredith’s interactions with CeeCee. Too funny! And I adored CeeCee’s shopping idea! She understands what Meredith is saying (or not saying) now. Work from the outside in. I really like the dynamic they have created. The scene at the end with Maggie and Meredith with Zola, Bailey, and Ellis stole my heart! So precious! FASHION SHOW! I like that they are including the kids more this season and they are clearly listening to the criticisms of the past few seasons where the kids were MIA and it was super obvious and ridiculous.

Annnnd that’s a wrap! I liked this week’s episode. I’m looking forward to seeing Meredith go on her blind date next week!

I’m gonna word vomit my feelings about the new episode of supergirl. Spoilers, obviously

okay, so, that episode

I’m just going to completely gloss over everything that wasn’t sanvers, because who cares about the stuff that wasn’t sanvers (also don’t want to invite in Discourse)

and it was so good and healthy and I am SO HAPPY that Alex figured out that Maggie was hiding/repressing stuff because trust issues and holy crud I wanna watch that scene another 30 times I maybe just found it on youtube and took a break from writing this to watch it twice

Also, the whole I always thought you were perfect but it’s really nice to see that you have problems too like I feel that on a spiritual level y’all I can’t I love her and her and them alkjdsgfasjkl

this was such a good thing that happened

now we are going to move on to the problem.

Like I love them, but seriously? Seriously? One peck on the lips for the whole episode? Sure, there is a lot of cutesy arm-in-arm stuff, and there is cute banter, and tight embraces, but for the first half of the episode I was watching with my mother behind me and in view of my laptop screen and I really doubt she would even have picked up on the fact that they are in a relationship.

I appreciate when being gay isn’t hypersexualized, because gay relationships are relationships and they are about a lot more than sex, and I feel like people don’t get that a lot, and that idea is I think a big reason why people think all gay content is unsuitable for children. I appreciate that they aren’t doing that

but they are waaaaaaay overcorrecting. you don’t need to neuter gay people to make them appropriate for television, y’all. It doesn’t have to be all linked arms and effing nose kisses and whatever cutesy crap that y’all come up with. They are allowed to freaking make out.

Thoughts on Grey’s Anatomy Episode: 14X23

Wow. In true Shondaland style this episode was an emotional rollercoaster! Such spectacular acting. The fashion in this episode was wonderful. I LOVED April’s top at the beginning. April designing Alex and Jo’s wedding invitations made my heart melt. April clearly loves it and Alex and Jo are so happy. I’m glad that Jo finally gets to have the wedding that she wants with someone who truly loves her and doesn’t hurt her. She doesn’t have to hide anymore.

Awwww. I loved the Zola and Meredith scene. And there’s Bailey and Ellis in the background. Too cute! Uncle Alex! My heart is a pile of goo. Meredith’s line, “Alex is gonna hate it!” made me laugh! Baby Leo is too cute! And Betty’s back! Although this storyline is rather unrealistic. In real life child services would have a field day! Aren’t they doing checkups?

Arizona and Bailey’s scene made me tear up. I loved Bailey’s speech about Arizona’s evolution and their relationship. Very true. This episode really pulled at my heart strings! Also Harriet is adorable. I liked the scene with Webber and how he was mad that he didn’t hear she was leaving from her.

Welcome back Dr. Nicole Herman! Geena Davis is amazing! She was SO funny in this episode. I really love seeing portrayals of people with various disabilities and impairments living pull beautiful sexy hilarious bitchy lives. In real life that’s what happens. Things happen you deal with it and you make a new life. So much of the way so many conditions or issues are portrayed shows people as inspiration porn and I’d love that Grey’s Anatomy rejects that and makes a point of showing people as they are living their lives being amazing. Favourite Line: “Thank God. She would’ve taken my hearing next.” I’m glad that it wasn’t Amelia’s tumour’s fault. That would have devastated her. I also liked Dr. Herman’s line, “Sex when you’re blind is way better.” I wonder if that’s true. Also when she said, “But that makes it sound like we’re a dude.” I laughed out loud! I liked that they combined Arizona’s exit and leaving for New York for Sofia’s happiness with her continuing her work on fetal surgery and research.

Originally I thought what they were going to do is have Dr. Herman come to Grey Sloan with an exciting opportunity and then her and Sofia were going to reunite with Callie and move to New York. But in retrospect that would’ve been too coincidental and looked cheesy on screen. The fact that she’s chosen to move to New York for Sofia and then Dr. Herman brings her this new idea, one that can be done from anywhere, makes more sense. The surprise hug made me laugh. It was very classic Arizona. Although it must be terrifying if you’re blind to have someone suddenly hug you.

Bailey with the real talk parenting advice lol! When they brought Matthew in as a patient I was surprised. I honestly thought he was going to find April in his role as a paramedic and bring her in. Twist! Also I hate Vik Roy. He’s an ass. Get him out of here! He can leave anytime. I felt to bad for Bailey when she was worried about both April and Ben. That can’t be easy.

Relationship advice: Find someone who only sees yellow too! And loves cake! I’m with Jo and Alex on this one it’s all yellow. Who cares? Also the wedding industry is a shame (mostly) full of people who overcharge for everything and straight up make up stuff. Nuff said. The scenery was really beautiful in this episode. I wonder if they shot it in Seattle or somewhere nearby. Thank goodness Meredith is a good liar! Why do the interns always think they’re invited to things?!?! They’re all super immature and don’t have any concrete relationships with the attendings. Though I do like that Helm got an invite because of Jimi Hendrix. :P

Maggie’s Amelia moment when she’s all about her big stupid feelings and blubbering and refuses to do her job reminded me why I hate her. As Meredith says, “We don’t need people with big feelings we need people who can help.” In real life she’d be a terrible surgeon. If you pulled that crap all the time you would be terminated. So would Amelia. Nonsense. Sigh. I miss Cristina and Lexie. They were great and actually good surgeons and sisters to Meredith.

I felt so bad for Alex. He’s on his way to go cake testing with April and instead he has to help resuscitate her. Talk about a bad day at work. I loved him bringing the truth and the callback. I also loved all of Bailey and Webber’s interactions. They shine in scenes together. Jackson’s scenes in this episode were incredible. Phenomenal acting by Jesse Williams. I was legitimately crying during the scene where they were praying and then trying to get a rhythm.

I love that we finally got to see Arizona admit that she’s been lying about Callie! That Callie has been selfless and supportive and that she’s been lying to make herself feel better. FINALLY!!! So April and Matthew are indeed dating. I was kind of hoping that she’d end up with Koracick and that they’d get some closure there with her telling him about Samuel. I’m thinking maybe the volunteer storyline will lead to her exit? I’m still unsure though.

Thank goodness Ben’s okay! Poor Bailey! I love Meredith’s soliloquy about being robbed versus what she’s had being a bonus. Jackson pleading with a God he doesn’t believe in for April to be okay made me cry a lot. Jesse Williams’ gave such a spectacular performance here! Then she squeezed his hand and opened her eyes. And then Kepner was back to being Kepner! I love April and Owen’s friendship.

I thought the end scene of the episode was really great. I didn’t catch that Meredith was retiring Derek’s ferryboat scrub cap. A friend on Twitter told me about it so I went back and re-watched it. I checked the wikia and according to Meredith’s page she used to wear a purple scrub cap when she first became and attending before she started wearing Derek’s to honour him. I wonder if she’ll go back to using that one or pick a new one with new meaning and different symbolism.

As for what it means I hope it means that Meredith has come to a place where she’s accepted what’s happened to her and finally feels ready to move on. I’d love for her to find love again! I really hope Scott Speedman comes back next season! I keep checking on how his character is doing on Animal Kingdom in the hopes that he’ll come back.

As for next week’s promo … Jo and Alex get locked in an effing shed and miss their OWN wedding in the promo for next week’s episode! LMFOA! Haha only on Grey’s! Camilla’s tweets were hilarious too! Can’t wait for next week!
