Call me Peerless Cucumber the way I keep reading books that skate around the interesting bits of the story all fucking day, leaving me to yell at the clouds, shaking my fist impotently
3 in a row!!!!!!
#the fucking strength of will its taking to not tag the books rn with how sleep deprived and crabby i am is2g#at least two of them are very popular; when/if i wanna nuke my blog i might post the rants#its called the *** *** series not the a bunch of very nice aliens eat various meals series#the other one!!! sets up a very interesting frame story mystery and then infodumps all the main characters back stories#(which last centuries because Wizards™) meanwhile im like?!?! what about the mystery?!??!?#and the third one i dealt with for the whole first book because other than the mid sex tangents the plot was ~fairly competently moved along#not a fan of the one person = one unique power setup but whatever its popular rn and xmen did it well so it is possible#but in the 2nd book one of the pov characters just kept going 'there she is. the woman i had sex with. i sure did have sex with her. and wan#t to do it again. too bad she hates me. but! someday she wont hate me or will at least be resigned to having sex with me!' and like he alway#s was obsessed with her but in the 1st book he at least had a goal and a whole arc going from indifference to hate to begrudging respect to#fond exasperation to hero worship to having sex to wishing he didnt have to betray her. which was movement !!!#like i knew it was a romance novel but when she's like 'i have to negotiate with the prince to find a place for my people' and he's like#'shes so hot in those pants' im just 🤦#anyway i probably will finish the first book i was complaining about in the hopes that we do circle back to the mystery & bc i listed them#from most to least recent lol#so yeah. 👑🥒 out lmao

Loved your fanfic! Baby Moiraine is adorable. Any wot recs?
Thanks for asking and sorry for answering this a bit late. I wanted to write a rec anyway, so anon, your timing’s excellent! There are a few things, however, I need to clear up first: I’m not suggesting here, that these are the best fics ever written in the fandom, this is not a hall of fame. This is a collection of my comfort fics as a reader who loves to read intricate and unlikely AUs about Siuan/Moiraine and plotless stories about That weird thing Lan and Moiraine have. I’m 100% sure there are great fics out there about Rand&Mat and the Polycule(tm), it’s not a judgement of value that I’m leaving stuff out.
Also before the rec, psst here’s my wishlist of the things I’d love to see on AO3: the “How I met your Greenman” story, outtakes from Birgitte’s lives, an entire story from Aviendha’s POV. If you’ve read anything similar, hmu pls (I mean I was desperate enough to write a Birgitte story recently, rip.)
An incomplete list of fics I adore (might write a 2nd part):
Their Dinners by aptasi (T)
A truly in-character piece about Lan and Moiraine: there is no dialogue, they are just having dinner in complete silence and that’s the entire plot. Such a brilliant story, I’d say this is my favourite but aptasi has tons of gutting short stories  and I’m not able to just choose one. aptasi also writes amazing  Rand & Moiraine dialogues, the kind that leaves you staring out of the foggy window, rethinking your ways.
echoes of her dynasty by alittlelesspain (E) There are so many things in this fanfic I still think about every once in a while, just to list a few of them:
- Alric has an actual personality in this story?? he’s the saltiest ace/aro Warder and I absolutely loved how being someone on the grayscale was not depicted as being innocent or clueless about stuff, but “When she looked up, Moiraine was staring at her, not the puzzle. “Oh,” said Alric in a voice of revelation, when Siuan got back to the inn that night, puzzle dangling uselessly from her hand, and brain equally useless to holding any sort of sensible conversation with him. “I understand now. She’s equally pathetic.”
- most of the story is from Siuan’s POV which is a relatively rare thing and it was so amazing to stay in her mind for a while. Technically this story is a Very Reluctant Sun Queen AU where Moiraine re-builds Cairhien with her Dream Team (Siuan, Alric, Lan and Bukama) instead of becoming Aes Sedai. There are also heavy Beauty and the Beast undertones, as the story starts with Siuan encountering the last surviving Damodred lurking in the Royal Library with her stone faced Borderlander bbf
- a battle is won because Siuan loves to chat with Ogier stonemasons and re-uses a centuries-old waterway for her tactics.
- a lot of this fic is about the importance of rebuilding lost knowledge and making education more accessible. The entire thing has such a positive message while keeping the reader on their toes by staying brutally realistic at the same time. Ugh, just make a huge pot of tea and read this.
The Path of Fires and Foxes by LarraineLynch (M)
Time-travel AU from multiple POVs and I loved reading all of them. The first book of this series is already finished, it’s so intricate and masterfully woven that I don’t know how to describe this story, I just want to say that her weekly updates kept me going through a vacationless summer. What I liked best about it was 1. that instead of pitting women against each other the author lets them communicate (or for Moiraine’s part, manipulate, but we love her nonetheless) and plot against the system 2. it felt so gross to read about stilling men then leaving them to go crazy and die alone through the series and finally, this fic addresses this waste of human life and potential and creates an amazing solution.
cause for separation by fuelprices (G)
Delicious long-distance relationship angst and crack! don’t want to spoil the plot, I just want to say I love her way of writing the Siuan-Lan dynamic <3 (+check out the rest if you’re unlike me and can read some good hurt & comfort stuff rn) Fractal by aptasi (E)
Moiraine and Siuan have a debate about the metaphysical nature of time and the Wheel while having sex. I had to go for a 10k run after reading this to be able to function as a person for the rest of the day, thanks.

first person feels like I'm not actually being included. and I read x reader cause the stories supposed to be about me bro. I hope you take this in a funny joking way thank you
Tumblr media
I really like how the general consensus is: “first person isn’t about me, and I’m not about that 💅🏽” LMAO. I mean that affectionately!!! It like, makes sense that these are the replies, because we’re all involved in the x Reader niche and we’re coming from that perspective, an inherently self-indulgent one. 2nd Person POV, as we use it here in this corner, is unadulterated with it’s wish-fulfilment so i’m not surprised at these answers tbh.
Tumblr media
There was like, idk, a bit of a trend on tiktok—trend is a strong word, it was maybe just something I noticed over the course of a few months on like, booktok i guess, but people would make videos or comments about the character in the book they were reading having like, idk, “red hair and green eyes” for example, and then being like, “no babe, she’s got dark hair and dark eyes like me and is exactly my height and is also me 💅🏽” and I just found that so—fascinating??? LMAO. Because to me, I see 1st Person POV narratives (outside of fic, anyways) as like…. deliberately narrow??? Like yeah, you’re focused on this one person for a reason, they’re telling you a story. I think as a writing tool, it’s a good one to use for like, idk, unreliable narrators, maybe, or even stories where you deliberately want a narrow scope when it comes to the story’s field of vision.
In fic, especially, we always seem to equate 1st Person to like, Original Characters—I’m thinking the classic, My Immortal’s Ebony Dark’ness Dementia Way—but I find that apart of the charm??? Like I said, some of my favourite books are done in 1st Person POV (Flowers in the Attic, which I’ve shilled before, opens with: “It is so appropriate to colour hope yellow, like that sun we seldom saw. And as I begin to copy from the old memorandum journals that I kept for so long, a title comes as if inspired: Open the Window and Stand in the Sunshine. Yet, I hesitate to name our story that. For I think of us more as flowers in the attic. Paper flowers. Born so brightly coloured, and fading duller through all those long, grim, dreary, nightmareish days when we were held prisoners of hope, and kept captives by greed.” and i truly, utterly and deeply believe that 1st Person was the right choice for that story, because then it gave Catherine—our main character—the witnesses to the horror that she and her siblings went through that she absolutely needed.) but writing wise, I’ve only ever used 1st Person for original ideas (romances!! I was a teenager and wrote them in notebooks and then lent said notebooks to my friends. I wrote things like… quiet mousey girls who got picked on by the hot school bully—lmfaoooooo—but then found herself growing closer to his equally hot, gentle best friend. 😌 The school Loud Mouth who gets paired with her Arch Nemesis on a project and they fight the entire time 😌😌 A spin-off with her best friend who’s falling in love with her neighbour—oh my god i gave myself everything I WANTED back then… there was no hiding. The 1st Person POV probably made it worse LMFAO. Everyone in my stories were based off of people I went to school with—my friends, people we hated, the boys we had crushes on. It was a free-for-all and it was so good, so much fun, and I will fight to death for spaces like Wattpad—spaces for kids and any other newcomer, where they can run rampant with their creativity, no matter how unpolished!!! anyways that was a tangent—).
I don’t know if 1st Person would even be a thing you could pull off with a x Reader, just given the nature of x Readers in general…… 🧐 our inner narrative is literally just about ourselves…. like, hmm. 🧐 Maybe you could??? Like, idk about the rest of you, but i don’t walk around thinking “oh my gosh, there i go, all 5’7’’ of me with my wild dark hair and my dark eyes that I blink at people charmingly when I want things” LMAOO. Like, my inner narrative is more about what I’m feeling, what’s making me feel that way, random thoughts like—I’m sitting in my chair right now, writing this, and every time i glance up I keep accidentally making eye contact with my Bakugou nendoriod and it’s a bit weird—idk. Hm. I reckon someone adventurous could pull it off… but you’d have to be prepared to do that and have an audience of like, one LOL because!!! Again, idk about the rest of you, but when I’m going into fanfic to read something I’m hunting for something specific and I am ruthless, because so often as a reader I don’t get the luxury of being that cut-throat with general literature. So I think just by virtue of being able to narrow down your searches that people are going to be more dismissive of fics that don’t have exactly what they want.
oh my God i’ve just convinced myself to write a 1st Person POV fic FUUUUUU—

☕️ margot verger? And also any of the other main women
Margot:
I liked her, I love Katharine Isabelle and I feel like she fit the vibe of the show. I was disappointed that she wasn't a butch lesbian like in the book - I know Fuller's reasoning was wanting to avoid the transphobic tropes in the book, but like, he could've done that while keeping her butch lol, I feel like his actual reasoning is that he just likes these hyperstyled feminine characters lbr.
Was not a fan of the had to fuck Will to get pregnant to get medically abused storyline either, it's the biggest dsappointment of season 2. I wasn't as upset about it as some people, but yk, it wasn't great fam.
Overall though I think she's a fun character, love her blase attitude towards Hannibal, love when she finally kills Mason, love that she hooks up with the former het love interest lmao, I find her solidly enjoyable.
Alana:
I think she's interesting, though she was stifled in her love interest role in the first two seasons. I like that in season 1+2 her biggest flaw was woobifying Will lmao and basically not treating him as someone with agency, I like that she's self aware about her tendency to fall for dudes in distress but still ends up hooking up with Hannibal after he nearly gets murdered lmao. I like her perturbed outside pov on Hannigram. Loooove that she ends up married to a woman. Love her development in season 3 in general, don't think it needed to be justified by ~bone marrow in her blood~ but w/e I've whined about that before lol. Oh and I love that she's basically Hannibal's nemesis now, and specifically started working at the BSHCI to guard him herself, it's fucked up and interesting.
Abigail:
I'm pretty meh on her honestly, she's fine but she's not that interesting to me, I'm not really into the murder family thing, and she's most interesting as a plot device to bring hannigram together and tear them apart as far as I'm concerned.
Bedelia:
Adore her lmao. I love that she's constantly a little contemptuous of Hannibal yet fascinated by him, was so pleasantly surprised at how she turned out to be manipulating Hannibal in Italy when, after the first episode of s3, I was fully expecting her to just be a damsel. Bedelia getting high and lying to Jack and Will was one of the best scenes of the show. Loooove her ridiculous over the top dialogue. Love her crushing the bird speech (the bird is Hannibal). Love her shift from Will's ally in season 2 to also contemptuous of him. I think the fact that so many people assumed Bedelia cut off her own leg in the post credits finale scene is hilarious and unfortunate and shows that a lot of people completely misunderstand her.
But tbf the show actively obfuscates everything so yk.
Freddie:
Fave. Looooove her. Hope she makes millions off her murder husbands book, she deserves to live a long and happy life. Love how Hannibal kept calling her rude and she slipped neatly by him anyway. Love how she's kind of Will's nemesis lol, in a much pettier, funnier way than Alana is Hannibal's.
Molly:
She's fine. She's a good down to earth element that the show was crying for lol. Loved her final girl style escape from Dolarhyde. Love that she just knows Hannibal sent him after her like the bitchy ex he is. Love that she peaced the fuck out.
Bev:
Fine, also down to earth which was great, the 2nd half of season 2 was sorely lacking in the vibe she provided. Her death was a little eyeroll worthy, which was unfortunate, she deserved to go out in a more badass way imo.
Bella:
Quite like her, love Hannibal's respect for her (the fact that he even flipped a coin says volumes tbh,though I also think Hannibal would've responded that way to most people, it's still a great scene), love that she slapped him, think she was kind of shitty to Jack in not telling him about the cancer for so long lol but I also get it and empathize with that choice, think she was incredibly shitty to try to kill herself in front of Hannibal but in like, an interesting way lol (even though it was probably just plot convenience writing-wise). Love Gina Torres in general.
Have I forgotten anyone important? Hope not.
Thanks for the ask!
send me a ☕️ and a topic and i’ll talk about how i feel about it

NIALL
June 25th, 2018
"Okay, move slightly on the right." I heard her, doing what she told me cautiously. "Now watch out, there's a step."
"Big or small?"
"Uhm, medium" she replied after thinking about it.
"Gee Liv, thanks!" I replied sarcastically before I carefully tried to put my foot on the step.
She guided me with difficulty until the car and I packed her last few boxes in the trunk. We sat in the car and I started it, feeling her gaze on me but I tried to ignore it until I felt her hand on my thigh. I suddenly relaxed and my eyes met hers for half a second before going back on the road.
"You should have let me help you." she pointed out with a soft voice. "I can carry more than one box, you know."
The left corner of my lips raised gently and I glanced at her again before stopping at a red light and turning my head completely her way. Her eyebrows raised and I sent her a small smile, shaking my head.
"I want you to let me take care of you." I admitted, bending closer to press my lips gently against hers in a quick kiss. "Besides, an old lady like you shouldn't carry heavy things."
With a chuckle, she slapped my arm gently as I started laughing and started driving again. It was already mid june and we had been working on her moving in with me for about a week. Most things were actually bought by Louis so all the furniture stayed there but it took us a while to pack all her stuff and bring the boxes to my house. I mean, our house.
"I'm only two years older than you!" she argued, making me laugh even more. "Do I have to call you 'kiddo'?"
"Please, I'm a man." I let out with a frown, half-joking. "You know it, you've seen me naked."
"Oh how my life has changed since then." she replied wih a chuckle, making me smile too.
We brought her stuff to our room and started unpacking together after I put music on. It invaded the house so loudly that the neighbours probably heard since we had opened the windows. It was a warm saturday afternoon and I still had a little bit more than a week off. I knew we were going to miss each other since I was about to leave for three months (even if i was going to be back here at some point in august for a few concerts) but we didn't talk about it much, as if it would make things worst.
I kept glancing at her from time to time as I was putting her stuff in my closet and my lips curled when I noticed she was dancing while putting her clothes in her dresser. It was nothing new. She had always been like that but somehow, at this exact moment, it made me realize how perfect this moment was. Loud music, finally sharing a house with the woman I loved, watching my girlfriend dance and sing happily close to me with a promise ring hidden in my underwear drawer. That whole scenario happening right in front of me felt like the accomplishment of something very very important and even if I couldn't define exactly what, I tried to remember this in my brain like the movie of a memory I wanted to watch over and over again until i'd be on my death bed. The smallest details seemed important and when she moved a lock of hair that had stuck on her lips behind her ear, I held my breath. Could I write a song about this?
She turned around and our eyes met and suddenly, her lips curled into a fond smile. I loved when she looked at me like that. I was used to it, because she's looked at me like that for as long as I could remember, but it's only now, the second time we're dating, that I realized what it meant and how important it was.
"Are you gonna help me or are you just going to stare at me while I do all the work?"
I chuckled and rolled my eyes before shaking my head and grabbing an other box. It was heavy and when I opened it, I saw a bunch of books, the first one on the top being the one she was reading at the moment. I knew because sometimes we'd just sit together in the living room in silence. She'd read and sometimes i would too, or id end up writing, or playing guitar. Just being in the same room was enough sometimes and I liked it. I grabbed the book and turned it around to read the summary but something else caught my attention and I frowned. Something was sticking out of the book and I pulled on it slightly only to see my face and hers on a few pictures. It came from the photobooth and if my memory served me right, it was from the first time we dated. I pulled on it more to see all the pictures and finally just opened the book so she wouldn't lose her page and let my eyes roam on the older pictures of us. I remembered how I felt, but I was well aware it was not comparable to the feelings I had now.
"Can't believe you kept this."
My eyes didn't move from the pictures but I felt her stop moving and finally get closer to me. I sat on my bed and I felt her sit next to me in silence until I finally looked up in her eyes.
"You have no idea of all the things I kept." she admitted and I could swear her cheeks turned a soft shade of pink. "I kept a lot of souvenirs of you, Niall."
My smile curled a bit and she chuckled. "Really?"
"Oh don't look at me like that, it's not like I built a shrine for you or anything." she just rolled her eyes. "But your friendship and your love... yea, it's important for me."
I ran my thumb gently on the pictures for a few more minutes and finally put them back in the book before closing it. I stared at it until Liv grabbed my hand and I squeezed her fingers, looking up at her and sending her a smile.
"You know we need to christen the rooms." This time, she let out a loud laughter and it made my lips curl. "It's true!"
"It only applies to new places, Niall!" she laughed more. "We've already had sex pretty much in all the rooms of this house, and that says a lot!"
"Are you sure?" I asked, raising my eyebrows before she nodded. "All the bathrooms? Bedrooms?" She nodded again and I raised my nose up with a low groan, making her laugh again. "There must be somewhere we didn't fuck!"
"On the dryer."
"What?" I frowned.
"We never fucked on your dryer." she repeated with an amused smile, her head tilted. "We fucked in the showers, kitchen's table, kitchen's counter, on the couch, on the floor of the living room, in all the beds, on all the bedroom floors, in the music room and against that piano.. One time you even grabbed me when I got out of the shower to fuck me against the wall in the hall."
The left corner of my lips curled as the memory came back to my head and I raised my eyebrows. "Oh yea, I remember."
"But I don't remember fucking on the dryer."
My eyes roamed on her and I licked my lips. "We can do that now."
"Join me in 5 minutes?"
I raised my eyebrows in surprise when she suddenly got up and left. My fingers gripped the book in my hands tighter and I finally put it on the bed before turning my eyes to the alarm clock on the bedside table. It was the longest 5 minutes of my life and if I wanted to be honest, I only waited 3 and a half anyway.
I heard the dryer's noise and frowned a bit when I realized she had started it and when I got there, she was sitting on it and I noticed the matching black and silk panties and bra she was wearing. Her legs were hanging down the dryer and she was holding herself with her hands slightly behind her body, her dark hair falling near her back, and I stopped as soon as our eyes met.
"When did you put this on?"
"I wore them all day." she admitted with a smirk before chuckling when my face changed. "I mean, I wanted to show you but we were sort of busy."
I took a few steps closer slowly and put my palms on her thighs, sliding my hands up very slowly on her soft skin.
"Spread your legs, petal." I whispered as she bit her bottom lip but did as I asked.
"I wasn't sure if it actually looked good on me." she admitted low and I shook my head quickly.
"Oh shut up, darling, this makes me so fucking hard." To prove my point, I turned my hips a bit and pressed my hard cock through my pants against her naked thigh. "See?"
I ran my hands up to her breasts, touching them before slipping one of my hands under it to run the tip of two of my fingers on her nipple. "I'm so torn right now. I want to rip it off of you, but watching them on you is so fucking hot."
"Just move my panties aside and fuck me."
Her eyes seemed to sparkle but her expression was needy and I just licked my lips, bringing my hands down to my jeans and unzipping them as I kept staring at her.
"Such a needy little slut." I let out in a low tone. "Tell me how bad you want my cock. Beg me."
Her eyes never leaving mine, she brought her feet on the dryer, exposing her panties even more to me and slowly, I took my cock out and started stroking it. I could feel the dryer getting warmer and the way she seemed to shake over it made me want her even more.
"Fuck, Niall, I want you so bad. I need you deep inside me." she whimpered and licked her lips. "Please, Niall, I need your cock, please i'm begging you, fuck me."
I jerked off harder, making sure the tip of my dick rubbed against her pussy over her panties, and she whimpered and bit her bottom lip harder.
"Move your panties, pet. Show me your pretty little cunt."
She did as I asked and my eyes dropped between her legs as I moved even closer, close enough for the tip of my cock to push inside her. I groaned low and she let out a short whimper as I felt her throb around me.
"Deeper." she breathed out. "Fill me."
Quickly, I pushed myself inside her until I was balls deep and she let out a moan, her head falling back slightly and her eyes fluttering.
"Like this petal? How does my cock feel?"
She squirmed slightly and with difficulty but I watched her shake glancing a few times down to watch her grind despite herself on my dick. The feeling was amazing and I groaned louder when I felt her clench around me.
"So good, so fucking good." she whimpered again.
"You're so fucking wet and horny I just want to watch you fuck yourself on my cock until you cum all over it, baby girl." I let out without thinking. "How about you do that?"
I moved as close as I could and she ground on me for a few minutes. I loved the way she moved, all her facial expressions and the way her moans sounded but after a while, I couldn't take it anymore and grabbed her waist, my fingers sinking in her skin as I pulled her against me in motion with my thrusts.
"Fuck, i'm gonna cum." I just said still going hard.
I didn't know if it was because of my words or if she had been holding it for a while but she started shaking even harder against me as she came, my name escaping her lips in incredible moans and bringing me to my own orgasm. I shut my eyes tight, pushing myself so hard against her to make sure I went as deep as I could, and when I got down from my high, I leaned my forehead against hers, eyes still closed, as we both panted with parted lips.
"This is so much better." I whispered, moving a bit to reach her lips with mine.
"Better than what?" she asked in a breath as I kissed her gently again.
"Better than anything. Better than anyone." I confessed. "Better than sex without feelings."
It took her about a minute to talk but her words made me open my eyes suddenly.
"Are you in love with me, Niall?"
I pulled away to look in her eyes and frowned for a few seconds before shaking my head. I knew she was probably asking me simply because she wanted to hear it but I couldn't help but fear that she doubted it.
"Yes. I am in love with you, Olivia." I affirmed. "It will never change. I'll always be in love with you, for as long as I live, and maybe even after."
                                                        ---
June 29th, 2018
I was a bit sad she had insisted on inviting Louis and Eleanor on her birthday but I went along with it because it was her day and I loved her. She also had asked for nothing big, just a movie and games night with our friends, and somehow, I was down with that. Normally, I'd want to celebrate in a bar with many more friends but we were about to be separated for a while and I was not in the mood to celebrate that. I was just grateful I could spend her birth day with her.
"Okay, Liv, you sit next to me. Your boyfriend can sit next to El." I heard Louis say as I walked back in the living room with two bowls of popcorn.
"Excuse me? I pretty much intend on watching this movie cuddling my girlfriend, thank you very much!" I argued with a frown as I stood in the middle of the living room.
"If we do that we'll just spend an hour and a half making out!" Louis explained with round eyes. "At least you two will! You're both horny animals!"
"It's not like we were gonna fuck in front of you." I pointed out, rolling my eyes before sitting next to Eleanor who just laughed.
"Don't be a jealous boyfriend, Niall. Liv was my roommate before being your girlfriend again and I'm very sad that I can't wake her up by literally jumping in her bed at 6 in the morning anymore!" he joked with a chuckle before turning to my girlfriend. "Bet you miss it too!"
"6 in the morning?" I repeated with a frown again. "You never wake up so early."
"He did when he had meetings for his album." Olivia pointed out. "As you already know, 'pain in the ass' is in his DNA."
I laughed and she did too but the way she looked at me made me smile. Louis placed his arm on the back of the couch, near her shoulders, and I groaned low at sight. It's not that I wanted to read too much into this, but it was bothering me a lot and it was tough to hide. I was not the type to be jealous and I knew Olivia loved me, but every time I saw them near each other, I couldn't help but remember that they fucked multiple times and that nothing could ever erase that.
What took me out of my thoughts was something hitting my nose and the sweet laughter of my girlfriend. I shook my head slightly and sent her a smile as she sent me more popcorn and I grabbed some from my own bowl before throwing it at her, too. She laughed louder and we kept on throwing popcorn at each other until Louis groaned and stopped the movie. It was crazy how easily Louis could make himself home. He was using my remote for my tv, was sitting on my favorite spot on the couch, cuddling with my girlfriend.
"Fine! Fine I get it!" Louis gave in, raising his hand up in defeat. "You guys can't stay too far away from each other for too long. It's sad but it is what it is!"
He practically jumped off the couch and walked up to me. After a quick head movement, I sent him a smile and got up to. I let myself fall next to Liv and immediately, she cuddled my side like a magnet, making me smile more. I had no idea why I was insecure when it came to Louis, but she proved over and over again that I had no reason to be. I wrapped my arm around her to pull her closer and we finished the movie before grabbing a few beers and talking. It was almost 3 in the morning when Louis and El left and I watched as Liv got up, yawned and stretched.
"I'm so tired, let's go to bed, yea?"
"We really should clean first." I pointed out, grabbing a few bottles.
I was about to bring them to the kitchen but she stopped me with a grimace and a groan. "Niall, we need to sleep. Come onnnn, we can do that tomorrow."
I stared at her and sighed, not really sure I liked the idea but I finally nodded and followed her to the room as she held my hand and pulled me with her. We fell asleep quickly but she did before me and for some reason, I enjoyed watching her snore lightly, her lips parted, as I held her close to me. These days, we fell asleep holding each other face to face and it was very different from our usual spooning. Still, I liked it but when I woke up, she was on the other side of the bed, her legs were over mine, and I smiled at how much she had moved.
I got up, put sweatpants on and made coffee before drinking a cup as I looked at the mess in the living room and the kitchen. She joined me about half an hour later, entering the kitchen as she yawned. It made me chuckle but I liked the mess of her hair and her lazy smile. I wanted that every single morning of my life.
"Slept well?"
"Yes but not enough." she just shrugged with an other yawn.
I poured her coffee in her favorite mug and we both drank in silence, leaned against the counter. After I was done, I put my cup in the sink and without turning back to look at her, I sighed.
"We need to clean now."
"Mm, I just woke up. We can do that later in the afternoon." she just shrugged.
"Liv, we need to clean now. That's what happens when we postpone these kind of things. It'll never be fun but doing it now means we can do something else after."
She stared at me a few seconds and sighed, letting her head fall back on her shoulders. I didn't want to argue with her, and I knew how messy she was, but she also knew I was the opposite and that leaving everything as is the night before had been annoying to me.
"Well I don't want to do it now."
I didn't expect that answer and took a step back as my eyebrows raised.
"Why are you being like that?"
"Why are you being like that?" she repeated. "This can wait! I can't believe we're arguing over that!"
"Olivia, please! We left this mess last night and we need to clean!"
"You knew how i was before I started living here, it's nothing new!" she let out a bit roughly.
"And you know how I was too!" I argued before she brought her hands to her face and sighed. "You need to make efforts, okay? I am!"
My voice was a bit too loud and I knew it but I was getting pissed. I couldn't believe we were arguing over something like that. After all we had been through, I didn't want to accept that something so silly could be what would end us.
"I just... I need a shower."
I left without waiting for her answer and stayed a bit too long under the hot stream but when I got out of the bathroom with clean clothes, my lips curled at the sight. She had cleaned a good part of the living room and was now working on filling the dishwasher. I walked up to her and wrapped my arms around her waist from behind, leaning my chin on her shoulder.
"Thank you." I whispered, leaving a few kisses on her neck and she finally turned in my arms to look in my eyes.
"I'm sorry."she sighed and licked her lips. "I'll make efforts, I promise."
We finished cleaning and ended up sitting at the table with an other cup of coffee and eggs. The problem was, I couldn't stop thinking that I was leaving in a few days and it bothered me. I wanted us to discuss it but at the same time, I was not sure she wanted to talk about it. I knew that she thought mentioning things out loud made them more real or concrete but ignoring them and pretending the problems weren't there wouldn't make them disappear.
"It's gonna be tough, you know. We'll be away from each other for quite a while."
It took her a few seconds to answer as she seemed focused on her coffee but after a while, she breathed in and sighed.
"I know it won't be easy, Niall, but I also know that it will never be as hard as it was without you for a whole year. So yea, I think we can get through this and come out stronger." she said in a calm way before looking up in my eyes. "I hate being away from you but that won't change my love for you, not even just a little."
I reached for her hand on the table and squeezed her fingers before sending her a small smile. "It won't change mine either. And you're right, that year without you was the worse I've ever been through."
"It's... different." she told cautiously, looking up at me and noticing my questioning look. "You spent that year without me because you decided it, it was your choice. You did it for a reason and you wanted to be alone to live things you clearly thought you couldn't live with me. But me... I suffered through it. You broke up with me, broke my heart... I lost my best friend and the love of my life at the same time, you know? We didn't live that year the same way."
I felt my heart thump hard in my chest and I just nodded very slightly, as we stared at each other.
"You know, Niall... you left me with nothing." she said and I could swear I heard her voice crack. "I tried to find someone else, to find what I was missing from someone else, but I never really found it because what I was missing was you." Once again, she breathed in and sighed. "I know it's not easy but maybe you should try to put yourself in my shoes and... try to understand how I feel, you know? How I felt all those months."
I remembered that she told me it was tough for her but I never really understood how hard it had been until I found out she had literally tried to kill herself. Still, I felt like I couldn't really know the feeling and never would be able to. I remained silent as her words kept running in my head and finally held my breath. I couldn't believe I was thinking about writing a song in such a deep moment but I was and I just shook my head.
"You're right, Liv." I admitted, reaching for her other hand and squeezing both of them tight. "I'll try to understand how you felt in that year we were apart, after I broke you. It's hard to imagine but, I know I've hurt you more than I ever hurt anyone else, and I'll listen to everything you have to say about it."
She sent me a fond smile and nodded. "I can't really put it in the past." she added low. "Not because I don't want to, but because I feel like it's part of our story. I thought I knew who you were, I thought you'd never leave. I mean, we've known each other for decades... I thought you would never break my heart. But it was hard to accept, you know? That I didn't know you as well as I thought I did. I felt like... you ripped my heart out. Like you stole something from me that I could never get back without really knowing what it was. And I wanted it back. The worst was.. I still wanted to be with you. If you had came back I would have said yes in a heartbeat. I was always thinking of you, no matter who I was with, and yes, it includes Louis."
I stared at her, blinking a few times but still remained silent. I didn't want to let go of her hands and I also didn't want to talk. I thought it was just time to listen.
"I just... I went in bars and clubs to change my mind, I tried to date other people, I tried to drink my pain away... I just wanted to get over you and nothing worked, because I had nothing left." She paused again and shrugged. "I learned that making you the center of my life was not a good idea but it was something I was used to, I did it since I was a kid. Now I don't want to do things for you, Niall. I want to do things for us, and I want you to do the same. It's a team work. I mean, it's us against the world, right? That's what we said?"
I sent her a bigger smile and nodded. "It is. You and me."

A/N: This is a small birthday present for my beautiful Kura over at @pasteljeon. She’s amazing and she’s the creator of the Venom AU which is featured in the following work. I’m sorry this took so long love! I hope you like it! Love you!!
Tumblr media
The walls were bright white, reflecting lights so harshly you had to squint. The tight lip of your skirt was uncomfortable around your knees and the heels dug into the back of your ankles but you kept on, pushing your body like you had been doing for so long.
The work you were a part of had no room for luxuries such as comfort and while you would sometimes dearly just like to sit, you learned early on that sitters were losers and the ones who were willing to keep walking or even running actually ran the operations.
Of course, nobody really told you that the sitters would be getting most of the credit.
You took a deep breath before you were pushing on the handle of the Experiment Containment chambers. Separated into seven glass enclosed rooms or chambers per se, you found the person you were looking for at the far back, near the youngest experiment.
You slowed, your eyes taking in the posture of your boss.
She was leaning completely over safety railing, something strictly prohibited – even if she was the lead scientist. Her forehead and palm was pressed to the fogged glass and on the other side, a black, glutinous mass attached to where her palm was splayed.
Jungkook…or better known as 19970901…
You knew you weren’t supposed to give the masses of black substance originated in outer space Human names but it seems your boss and the Head couldn’t help herself. She had given the seven surviving subjects humanity, training…names.
She was a mother to them, and to the youngest of the lot…it always seemed to you, she was much more.
You caught the quick jerk of the black substance, an acknowledgement to your presence just as you called for your Head’s attention.
“The next trial begins in ten minutes. Should I bring the volunteer in?” You asked politely.
She glanced back at the mass that had retreated to the far back of the room, motionless before nodding her head, leading you out.
You followed quietly, sounds of your steps already echoing in the room, attracting attention from the ones that were far less shy.
Symbiosis; a little hidden project funded by the government, returning from the outer space with symbiotes that had alien characteristics but would be able to merge with humans and live off them, enhance them.
The government wanted soldiers obviously but as you looked at the very front, trying hard not to feel emotional for the seven last remaining organisms that had survived the failures of establishing symbiosis with various contenders, you knew they were not meant for a life of war.
The mass at the very front, 19940912, sitting in a pool in front of Jane Eyre definitely wasn’t going to be of much help in a battle field.
Tumblr media
You had worked in the Symbiosis laboratory for over three years now, your life as much secret to the outside world as the outside world was a secret to them. Which is why, you had made up your mind early on that feeling any form of emotion for the…alien components that resided in the lab would not only be detrimental…it would be disastrous.
Yet, you couldn’t help but follow along with your boss as she cooed and crooned…and you managed a wry smile at each glop of masses that preened to her praise.
You watched 19921204 cook up delicacies that he and your boss indulged in, 19930309 was given sound cancelling headphones that you handpicked because of his…its extra sensitivity. 19940218, 19951013 and 19951230 were the most humane, bouncing around like teenagers on a power boost.
Among them, 19970901 or as your Head liked to call him, Jungkook – was the closest to her…while 19940912 was the most intriguing.
You had brought more books for this one black mass than you had yourself read over your own life of study and research. Dictionaries, Encyclopedias, nonfiction, fiction, and poetry…Namjoon the Symbiote was probably better read than the most accomplished human scholar.
So when your Head called you in to discuss a very sensitive and urgent matter…you weren’t sure if you were more impressed or less surprised.
Your work as a scientists’ assistant had shown you a lot. You had seen men and women painfully contorting their bodies as black shadows wrapped around them before flickering and dying out within the lifeless eyes of the volunteers. You had personally switched on the incinerators in some of these cases but you had never seen human zeal to liberate alien substances.
“With all due respect, ma’am,” You said, “but you cannot be serious.”
Your boss had her hands deep into the pockets of her white coat.
“It’s a failing endeavor because the symbiotes have come to rely on us. We will have to protect them.”
“They are aliens for god’s sake, ma’am. We cannot just break them out just because we don’t approve what use they’re going to be serving.”
She turned at that. “So, you don’t approve as well.” She shot out immediately.
Your eyes widened as she took hurried steps towards you. “I want you to help me, Y/N. Help me break them out. After me, you are the most close to the symbiotes, even if you don’t want to show it. Help me find better substitutes, people who can hide with them, so no one will ever find them.”
Aside from taking them yourselves, you had no other ways to let them go. You said so.
There was a brief crestfallen look to her eyes before she nodded, dismissing you.
Tumblr media
Seven years of hard work, labour, putting up with so much crap…all down the gutter. You watched your boss press the emergency button as the arson spread.
Contrary to what you had previously believed and shrieked about…the Head scientist wasn’t responsible for the fire breaking out. Government insurgencies were something you all had been trained for…but to see one in action.
It scared you to bits.
Your secret plan to smuggle the symbiotes out had somehow worked. You had started with Jin...bound to a woman, a chef teacher is a culinary academy. He had seemed happy enough, wrapping around her as you left the chambers to give them privacy.
Yoongi and Hoseok found homes in what they loved. Music and Dance, both of them attaching themselves to a duo who were hard pressed for money. With their talent, intermingling with theirs, you knew they’d make it big.
Jimin and Taehyung were more complicated. Try as you and your boss may, they flat refused to be seperated. You had no choice but to let them go together. It had taken weeks, nearly a month before a woman strong enough had managed to bond with the entwined set successfully. You had been on edge for all the prospects, withdrawing the half bonded twins from the half dead human before sending them to the infirmary to heal. As broody as they had been on the unsuccessful trials, they had been elated to finally find a perfect match.
That left the last two…still holed up in containment…nowhere to go.
You could feel the smoke puncture through your lungs as both you and your boss fumbled through the see through maze. Your hands seperated, your body too heavy to make through as she found what she was looking for…
Jungkook.
You smiled tearily, stumbling to the last cell left…and collapsing right in front of it.
Y/N
You shuddered, unable to lift your head through the fiery ash flying about.
Y/N…wake up
You managed to look at the glob at last, stretched thin, painted across the glass. It had no face, no aspects but the disembodied voice that floated down to you was concerned.
You’re dying.
“Yeah, no shit.” You coughed, managing to rise up to your hands and knees as the black mass pulsated and pricked, trying to get away from the fire. It made you blink.
For a heat sensitive organism, typical to be afraid of even a lick of fire, it had actually reached out towards you, making sure you were ok.
It was strangely touching.
“I’m rescuing you.” You got to your feet shakily. For something that had shown you enough sympathy to fight through what it was afraid of, you could forward the same courtesy.
Fire Y/N, bad for us.
“I won’t let it touch you.”
What about Jungkook?
You tried not to shiver at the way the name came so easily to it. “He’s safe with the boss. Come on!” You yelled finally but it only cowered away from the blistering haze you exposed it to.
I…can’t.
“Namjoon, please.” You whispered at last. The smoke was making it difficult to breathe. Very soon, you’d have no strength at all.
You’re dying. It said again.
You reached out for the mass again, trying to physically pry it off of the glass walls but you had no clue what gesture it would take it for.
19940912 shot towards you, sharp and fast as a cobra. A jagged edge of black gluton curled around your wrist, the outstretched limb running with black veins as it attempted to sink within you. A surprised groan fell from your lips, feeling the symbiote rush up your body, too fast, too sudden. The veins subsided, the tenril of black settling deep within you that thrummed with life, providing clarity.
“What did you do?” You queried, as with renewed vigor, the symbiote used your body to escape from the burning ruins.
We saved each other.
Tumblr media
The plane carried you away, far from your life, far from your career. You symbiosis with 19940912, had been painless, but not without it’s complications.
As you lay on the cool grass, the strength of the alien party had withered, flickered and you wondered if the bond was unsuccessful, and if you two were going to die no matter what happened.
It was quick to put you at ease.
Bond seems strong enough. We will be fine once you expel the smoke from your body, it’s making me antsy.
You rolled over, taking in deeper gulps of the cold night air as you grasped what had happened.
You were now a host to an alien symbiote. You had something…living inside of you.
“Um, 1994 -,”
Namjoon
“What?”
Namjoon; that’s my name.
“Right…Namjoon, how do we go about this?”
What do you mean? We’re bonded now, Y/N. we’re one. You can do anything you want. Be anything you want. You’re free.
“What about you?”
We’re one. Where you go, I go. What you’ll be, I’ll be. I’m free too.
You had left it at that, quietly taking the escape route you had planned well ahead. A small trip to a far off place, somewhere rainy…and foggy. It made sense.
Namjoon…added a definite sense of mystery to your life now. You tried to avoid him and leave him to his business as best as you could but well…he’d been right. You were one.
You could feel him moving up organs inside you when you poured over registers as a librarian. He watched through your eyes as you worked as an assisstant to a Vet. He was insanely protective, bubbling up to the surface of your skin if anything irked him. It wasn’t uncommon for people to say something would glitter in your eyes, some sheen to your skin that was worrisome to you. people that Namjoon of course found, not wholesome to be around his host.
He kept you safe just as much as you provided shelter to him. He read through you, he explored through you.
He also explored you but that was a complete different ball game.
Tumblr media
You had somehow forgotten about their heat cycles completely. You had woken to a feverish weight upon you, pressing you into the mattress of your bed. The first sudden scare had vanished completely when a groan, in an all too familiar voice echoed through the room.
“1994?”
“Fuck baby, it’s Namjoon,” He whined, his mouth hot against your ear. He had materialized somehow and while black tendrils over lapped his humanoid form, you could still feel him grinding something against your pelvis that was hilariously human.
“Namjoon…what are you doing?” You were alarmed, least of all, finding it curious that he could just hold form outside of your body and then amused when he dug into your pajamas, finding your heat with first his fingers and then those long vines of shadows attached to him.
It was too dark to make him out but you could tell every human feature. Lips, peppering adoration to your exposed skin as he sunk, in more way that one, into you, his new formed hips bucking without any further ado.
Your alien had put you through two orgasms before reaching his own and dissipated, silence falling over the two of you as you panted loudly.
“Heat…damn, I forgot.”
All you got back was a lazy ghostly chuckle from the being which had dissolved into you again, a simple entwining of black around your fingers his only evidence.
Well, that and the thick mass of his pleasure on your skin.
Tumblr media
You didn’t know what had persuaded Namjoon to go looking for his own self. He had become your home more than you were – literally – his. Maybe your boss had been right, wherever she and Jungkook were.
It was easy to fall in love with them. It had been slow for you, too taken with your previous aversion to feeling for them but Namjoon had overcome that. He shared his experiences, well, his version of your experiences and most of your pillow talks were about how you could be better in your works, meeting new people…his old friends.
So when he was suddenly not there when you woke up, you nearly shrieked.
Namjoon had felt your discomfort from the next room. A black mass crawled into the room before his voice echoed back, calming you down.
I’m right here. it’s all good. I was just trying new things.
You had been so relieved you didn’t address that he had been in another room – away from you.
“How did you even do that?”
I was reading and I think…with enough nourishment…and of course close proximity to my Host…I could materialize. You know, outside of my heat.
It had been tricky but you and he were both patient. It started with Namjoon knitting strands of his being together as he would during his heat cycles. A tendril always remained at your wrist, holding onto you as he gained form by himself.
It was hard work but it paid off.
Tumblr media
2 YEARS LATER
You kept a steady look down at your wrist, watching the second hand tick down to a minute before standing; eyes fixed across the small bedroom to the bathroom, hearing the lock give way.
A man stepped out, tall, broad, with thick limbs and light gold hair that fell right down to his nose. The simple black tee and sweatpants looked big on him somehow as if he wasn’t used to filling them and life yours had been, his eyes were on his feet and hands as well.
You took a careful step forward.
“1994…I mean, Namjoon?” you chanced, your long habit of referring to them by their codenames having faded into the long time you’d been away from your workplace.
The man looked up, blinking and whipping hair out of his face. His head moved too fast, bouncing off of the doorway painfully that cause the man’s form to haze out, come away black for more than a few seconds before freezing and slowly dissolving back into human.
You blew out a huff, taking another step.
“Y/N,” he grated out, voice whispery and hoarse.
“Yes,” You took another step, hand outreached and his fingers moved, clasping around your pulse, physical contact established after ages of experimentation, research and explorations.
Dimples appeared in tanned cheeks as Namjoon gave you a small smile. “I can do it. I can actually hold form outside of my heat.” He whispered.
“That’s great,” you whispered back, looking up at him, not used to actually talking to him while looking at another body.
He let go of your hand, moving further into the room, arms outstretched to catch him if he fell. You followed closely behind.
“I…I’m big, aren’t I?”
Instead of out loud, you heard him inside your head.
“Yes, Namjoon, you’re big. You’re a person now.” You said.
He turned, still slow before impishly moving in to wrap his arms – carefully – around you. “Sex is going to be easier and more fun now.”
This time, he spoke out loud, his voice still scratchy but adorably shy as he leaned in to press small hesitant kisses down your neck. Of course, this time it being the first time he was in a human body of his very own, he had to bend over quite a bit.
You tried not to roll your eyes, barely masking a moan when Namjoon’s tongue lapped across your collarbone.
“Are you sure, you can…?” You lead him to the bed, just in case he fell over in his excitement and took you down with him.
His eyes glazed, he sat down from your touch, looking up at you in confusion before following your gaze to where his legs were gone, replaced with black huge stumps, clawed toes visible. He closed his eyes, the stump reducing back to human nails, wiggling them at you.
I might explode a few times but that just means I’m enjoying it. He leaned in to give you a hearty kiss.
His hands explored, gripping at your breast through the shirt, his fingers reflexively clenching the fabric before going under the skirt, finding the crotch of your panties.
Without his heat, Namjoon was much more controlled and you waiting patiently as he explored you with his own body, letting him familiarize himself with touch and sensation.
Maybe you were selfish, maybe you wanted him to get used to control so he could hold himself in his newly gained human form long enough to blow your mind, but hey, you had seen firsthand what the man who’d attached himself to you could do and you were hopeful.
So you lay back, enjoying Namjoon’s hands, and then his mouth on your skin.
Once attached to you, he didn’t seem to want to let go as he kept kneading at your flesh with his large palms. He found your breasts, freeing them from your shirt and letting his fingers pull at your nipples, all with an expression of curiosity on his face.
All he wanted to see was how far he could push it before he wavered, he told you, and shedding more of his own clothes then yours, staring at your naked, spread form in front of him.
Not akin to his heats, when he pounced ravenously on you, he was slower, gentler. Every stroke of his fingertips was calculated.
It was at the juncture of your thighs, his fingers dipping to find arousal seeping from you when he first moaned…and simultaneously dissolved into a puddle of black.
“Joon,” You called apprehensively before the strands of black were knitting together again, gaining skin, or whatever comprised of their skin before giving you another impish grin.
“Sorry, I can’t help myself anymore.” He revealed, lowering himself, almost reverently into you.
You let him.
Namjoon bucked, huffed; thrust himself into you with iron hold, precise in his movements, losing form only twice, once when he entered you and then when he was close.
Finally when he exploded, there was nothing over you, even as you felt his climax splash across you.
By the time he collected himself again, ready for cuddles, you’d cleaned up and changed the sheets, snuggling closer to him.
“I’ll practice, I promise.” He whispered.
“I believe in you.” You whispered back.
You did, seeing what you’d seen with Namjoon over the years, you knew that going rogue had been the best decision of your life. Maybe you were never meant for something ordinary.

Mattie & Lulu & Dolly (mostly)
PlanityPlan: Okay, so we wanna get down what Mattie, Lulu and Dolly are like, that’s the main point
PlanityPlan: but then we wanna pinpoint the time of this reunion for their storyline together, so we can then say what Jay is up to, Beckett not really ‘cos he’s a child but we could also say what we wanna do with you eventually here because we are planning to use him but yes, kind of unrelated but not
PlanityPlan: So it’s like, individual story, what they’re like, the lives they’re living, and then the storyline we’ll do with them together
PlanityPlan: OKAY so Mattie doing an accelerated 2-year Maths and Computer Science degree at Greenwich (57, 58) and then her PGCE which takes a year and in this year you do 2 school placements, 2nd placement at the girl's new school after gay teacher drama in Surval, so this 2nd meeting after first failed attempt at contact, in 59
PlanityPlan: Basically, energy being, making contact before starting Uni and the twins are like nah and then we show up at their new school (accidentally) and the twins relationship has suffered so now we have an in
PlanityPlan: OKAY OKAY so Mattie reaches out Summer 57, she's about to start Uni, the twins are 14 and just finished year 10, 58 teacher stuff to happen and come out year 11, 59 we move to new school year 12, Mattie starts placement too
Junie B Jones: The school I found for the twins is called Surval Montreux in Montreux Switzerland and they’d have been going there from age 12 (and leaving at 19) it’s obviously an international school but there’s a heavy focus on French in lessons as obviously because English is usually a 2nd language, but don’t even worry ladies cos there is only a maximum of 10 girls (cos it’s only gals) in your classes and 60 in the entire school
Junie B Jones: worth noting the finishing school bit from 17-19 cos your mother would love that for you and you can share a room no problem as it’s usually 2 or 3 anyways
PlanityPlan: So, do we be evil and say they have to share with another poor gal?
PlanityPlan: ‘cos we could run with that
Junie B Jones: that poor girl requesting a transfer cos they are so odd hahaha but yeah I say there’s potential there even if it was only for a while like maybe it’s lowkey a version of how they put me and Trace in separate classes cos the teachers are like UM
PlanityPlan: I see that, forcing you to stay involved, ‘cos with 60 people you’d have to be all up in each other’s business, like you’re for sure meant to see the teachers as friends/fam too
Junie B Jones: the website was very culty and that energy
PlanityPlan: which brings me to my first idea ‘cos I think it works on many levels beyond being a cliche
PlanityPlan: Okay so, I thought it’d be interesting to have a secret between them ‘cos how hard it’d be to keep
PlanityPlan: and then I thought that it’d be hilarious karma if Dolly had an affair with a female teacher but we actually let it go there
PlanityPlan: ‘cos it’d be a massive scandal even your parents can’t ignore and the girl gives off some gay vibes and it’d be like, a thing they can’t share in if Lulu isn’t gay like we share a boyfriend but we’re not sharing this teacher moment
PlanityPlan: and it’d probably get you both kicked out so we can time it when we want it and Chloe would be fuming about this lesbianism lmao
PlanityPlan: so with the whole culty school like this would be NEWS ‘cos they’re tight with the teachers clearly so it’s like ARE THEY ALL BEING GROOMED lmao
Junie B Jones: Lulu gives off the straightest vibes EVER so I am down & also the vibe that she would love that culty school
PlanityPlan: right so not only have you kept a love affair and gay from me, you’ve also ruined our school moment, it’d really shake them and their weird twin energy to it’s core, which is the fun of it all obvs
Junie B Jones: I see now why you agreed to share a boyfriend hun, also the potential for her to have a gay awakening with the roommate so hitting all those cliches
PlanityPlan: right, I’m not being gross but it’s true that all-girls school girls experiment together, facts, like Lulu probably joined it with it too but it’s like oh you actually like girls for real
PlanityPlan: but if Dolly isn’t just then living her best gay life and is trying to get shit back to how it was, I think it makes it different
Junie B Jones: the tea and also it seems like the kind of school where a teacher would go there, especially if it’s a younger/artsy one like that film Cracks that Imogen Poots was in, soz Nancy but most teachers won’t
PlanityPlan: it’s a cliche with posh schools for a reason, the bond is closer by the fact there’s not 30 kids in a classroom, there’s more opportunity for it to happen because you have actual relationships with all your teachers, whereas in normal schools they barely know your name lol
Junie B Jones: gross but necessary question being how long do you see the relationship spanning in secret before the big reveal
PlanityPlan: it should probably be somewhere between enough that it’s an actual thing that happened and not like, it happened once, like the teacher probably thinks they’re gonna be together if she doesn’t go to jail lol, but not so long that it is like, how’d you not know
PlanityPlan: it’ll be fun to like, play out, see how long we feasibly could
PlanityPlan: and if Lulu finds out before EVERYONE finds out, then she has to decide what to do with this info for a bit too, which would also be good
Junie B Jones: I love that because the twin vibe is very much like oh we can read each other’s minds haha bitch you thought
Junie B Jones: totally can picture Lulu snitching on you ngl gal
PlanityPlan: accidentally fucking yourself over when they kick the lot of yas out, a mood
PlanityPlan: NEW CO-ED SCHOOL IN SURREY, STILL BOARDING
PlanityPlan: maybe Lulu does care more about school in general, but also specifically that school and being one of the girls forever
PlanityPlan: ‘cos then it’s gonna be hard to win her back when you end up in another school, with boys dundundun
Junie B Jones: she very much comes across like that to me, not only because she’s clearly the clingy controlling twin here but I think she clearly likes how small and family like this school is trying to be cos of how chaotic and lacking their home life is, she’s definitely scared of boys & navigating socialising with them without making a tit of herself because of how little dealings she’s had so it’s gonna be a SHOCK
Junie B Jones: dobbing her sister in because 1. You think the teacher will get sacked and it’ll be over 2. You think you can score some points back and stay in the school’s good books
PlanityPlan: It’s honestly sad how much sense it makes, like you really buy all in with the family vibes and then ya twin fucks it all up, rude
Junie B Jones: okay idk how plausible this is but remember in Wild Child aka the greatest film of all time that boy is like the headteacher’s son, what if the boyfriend (Danny Griffin is his IRL name but I’ll give you a french af one in character boy) they share is like the son of someone who works at the school (obvs he doesn’t go there but like he’d have to live nearby and generally loiter) which is part of the reason Lulu picks him cos all the girls would want to but also she could tell him something about this and he’s like UM you have to dob her in
PlanityPlan: I see that, they can’t all be spinsters like this is an enid, they’d have families and stuff, I can vibe it because again, a thing if there’s any male in the vicinity we all lose our minds lol
Junie B Jones: and like obvs that’s why she got with him but there’s potential for an actual relationship to form with this boy on some level if we want
PlanityPlan: Yes, maybe you actually like him, because clearly Dolly doesn’t, have him to yourself hun, but also then you’ll have to move so rude
PlanityPlan: Another reason to be fuming when you were the clingy twin before, role reversal
Junie B Jones: and another reason to not want to leave because I can’t imagine that your parents will move you to another school in Switzerland because it’s tiny and the scandal so literally in a different country
PlanityPlan: yeah, we’d probably move you to the uk like we’re going to be more involved like doubt that lads but you know
Junie B Jones: my thoughts exactly
PlanityPlan: so the question is do we want to do this before Mattie gets in contact or after
PlanityPlan: I’m leaning towards before so then 1. You’ve got a chance of getting in but 2. You can also help or not help them get on better terms, whatever we vibe
Junie B Jones: maybe when she first gets in contact it’s a secret still so we get the best of the both worlds, cos like you’re gonna get stonewalled then hun but when it all pops off you can be there
Junie B Jones: just cos I’m thinking if it’s all happened by the time they’re 16 that’s slightly drama but then again we’ve done worse lol
PlanityPlan: That’s a good idea, it makes the most of it for sure
PlanityPlan: I’m not sure what the age of consent is but that might affect how in deep shit this teacher gets
Junie B Jones: it’d be a way to show how their dynamic and relationship changes from a POV that isn’t just their own
PlanityPlan: for sure and then we can have the outcome be not just down to their new school and their parentals
Junie B Jones: poor Mattie getting way more drama than she expected
Junie B Jones: are you having her go to a UK uni because obviously relevant because this isn’t getting resolved in a summer hol
PlanityPlan: I’m kind of vibing no uni, honestly
PlanityPlan: because a lot of gen 4 do go and it isn’t the only option
Junie B Jones: love that for her tbh
PlanityPlan: So yeah, you’ll be around for sure
Junie B Jones: do you have a job/career in mind yet?
PlanityPlan: not really, like I see you being a bit lost in that sense, which is fine because you’ve got a lot in other respects and you’re looked after, but it’s definitely a vibe of not knowing what you want to do, but not just doing uni ‘cos as most people in that situ do, so you probably have lots of random jobs
Junie B Jones: that’s legit cos loads of people don’t know what they wanna do but don’t have the luxury of taking time to figure it out but she does & lowkey it doesn’t matter if she never does cos like you said she’s fine in a lot of other ways
PlanityPlan: like I won’t let you be insufferable with it and not work and just bum about but you’re just striking me as work-driven, which a lot of characters are again, so I’m not mad
Junie B Jones: I like it
PlanityPlan: So it’s just working out what your actual main motivation is, which I think could be tied into getting in contact with this fam
PlanityPlan: as we’re saying Jay doesn’t really want to, so it’s a difference there
PlanityPlan: and it’ll be good to have it not a total failure if you do make something with the twins but we know you won’t with Chloe so there’s the struggle with that
Junie B Jones: it pleases me because the obvious and cliche thing to do would be to have Jay be the one trying to do this as she actually has memories of and issues with Chlo whereas Mattie is basically Ava’s child
PlanityPlan: and I don’t think it resembles like, Edie’s feelings about Drew and Caleb etc either, it’s not like I NEED you to be my mum because you biologically are
PlanityPlan: it’s just lowkey a curiosity like, people can’t just vanish from our lives like that, like what are they doing, ‘cos you know their main house is still in London too, like it’s just like, why shouldn’t I look into this
Junie B Jones: agreed, it’s not coming from a place of having a deficit, she’s happy and has everything she needs in that sense, so it makes sense for her to only gain from it
PlanityPlan: and it is naive but that is how I vibe her being in a not really annoying way lol, not a jaded character though
PlanityPlan: and it will be shit when Chloe is Chloe but it won’t destroy her or anything it’s just like oh god, what is wrong with her though
Junie B Jones: and that’ll strengthen her relationship with Jay because she doesn’t wanna talk about all of that and you’ll get why in a way that you can’t unless you experience the crazy that is Chloe for yourself
PlanityPlan: exactly, like that can be a source of strain between you when you’re first deciding to do this
PlanityPlan: and you’d give Chloe a few chances ‘cos like I said you aren’t looking for a mum so you’d be trying to lowkey work it out and being empathetic so she’d probably actually love that ‘cos she’s a narcissist so it’d be a bit dicey
PlanityPlan: suddenly wants to tell you every drama in her life like poor me
Junie B Jones: how real
PlanityPlan: ‘cos you can think you’re like objective and just putting the mystery together but you’re gonna get dragged in, clearly
PlanityPlan: especially combine this with the twin drama which you do genuinely care about
Junie B Jones: mhmm, Lulu is gonna drag you in gal, not like she can bring these emotions and drama to her new school when it’s a scandal and this is supposed to be a fresh start
PlanityPlan: which is what you were warned about/one of the reasons we left it ‘til you were grown but you’ll have to work this all out, which will be good
PlanityPlan: ‘cos you can’t be dealing with your younger sister’s drama instead of living your own life but clearly at a point here we are ‘cos bit lost
Junie B Jones: you’re so clever boo, this is such a good idea that flows
PlanityPlan: heheh, I think it makes sense if you’ve had such a chill upbringing and the twins have not that this chaos can take over your life and drag you in
PlanityPlan: I’d like to think we all get to a healthy place gals but we’ll see tbh
PlanityPlan: as for who Dolly is… I think she never bought into the school as hard, like it’s probably better than home, not that we’d know, but we’re not like omg this is IT
PlanityPlan: same with the boyfriend clearly, none of it is as real but the twin bond is so like may as well until the gay drama comes along
PlanityPlan: but then that’s lowkey over before it’s begun so then we go into overdrive of trying to win her back
Junie B Jones: which Lulu is not having sis
PlanityPlan: like in reality we should accept our truth and start working on separate personalities but we’re like no no
Junie B Jones: potential for how far aka too far she can try and take winning her back, like that creepy book energy
PlanityPlan: deffo, like we’ll have to think of ways but if we’re going all-in on this, there isn’t reason not to
PlanityPlan: ‘cos we don’t care about school or whatever mum and dad are saying or doing
Junie B Jones: not gonna kill you off gal but oh the possibilities for danger cos lbr your grandparents can’t stop you either clearly
PlanityPlan: bless them they’re alright people but obvs a bit useless for all this to happen lmao
Junie B Jones: hence I vibe that Lulu totally walks all over/ has them wrapped around her little finger like Chloe did but more subtly because she has no nuance
PlanityPlan: deffo, oh lads
Junie B Jones: which is a shame when they could literally give you the family energy you want without need for a creepy cult school but hey, you’ve been taught to treat them like that
PlanityPlan: exactly
PlanityPlan: they should’ve lowkey took you in but we’re too posh for that and you’ll probably be fine right lmao
Junie B Jones: at least Dolly can stay with them when her parents are literally hate criming her
PlanityPlan: sad that you won’t ‘cos getting back in that closet so hard like will you forgive me if I’m straight and we’re still the same
Junie B Jones: it’s really sad like this isn’t sustainable huns and shouldn’t have been allowed to be a thing for this long
PlanityPlan: at least Mattie does have fresh enough eyes to be like, respectfully, maybe let’s not do this
Junie B Jones: just like Lulu don’t haze your sister thank you
PlanityPlan: right, I think this gives us energy to go on for all y’all
PlanityPlan: *** so the energy now is she can get more drawn in because she's literally there living at the school too, and after the placement, she's getting a permanent position at the school, so we can actually work through this together and have relationships etc etc

(Cute) Harbingers of Chaos
A/n: So this is my piece for @some-piece‘s AU challenge!! My choice of characters was: Silvers Rayleigh, Shanks, Wire, Kuzan (Aokiji), and Shachi. I’m going to do a (college) library AU. All fluff and fun, no warnings!! this turned out long than i meant lol, but most is under the cut.  feel free to add to the masterlist basi uwu
Word Count: 1.8k (i know, i thought it was gonna be shorter, but then, well, whoops lol)
Notes: Shachi x Reader (vaguely lol), gender neutral reader, and 2nd person pov
Summary: Reader works in college library, chaos caused by adorableness, Bepo is a massive pupper lol, plans went askew
AO3: Find it here on archive uwu
When you began your shift at the New World University Library, things started off as per usual. Armed with mints in your pocket and a single earbud in your ear, you started on your to do list, first of which was shelving books. Making your rounds through the library, you gave a few smiles and half waves to some of the students you recognized, but soon enough, you were lost in the music and books. Things were going quite smoothly too, that is, until a tall ginger in a whale hat dragged you out of your world, literally.
He yanked you around the corner of the shelf with a crazed look on his face and frantically looked around before crouching down and grabbing you by both shoulders.
“You work here, right? Have you seen a tall guy in a white hat? Super scrawny, possibly high and definitely needs to lay off the coffee?”
“Sorry, what? I- no. Could you–” A loud BOOOOF cut you off, and all the blood drained from Whale-hat’s face. He released you and rocketed away faster than a bar of soap in the bath, cursing about flightless wanna-be posh birds. Not quite knowing what else to do, you sprinted after him.
Students were fleeing the plaza at the center of the library, while just as many flocked in with their phones to film whatever was happening. Whale-hat was shoving his way through the throng and you dived after him, apologizing to the disgruntled students as you went.
Whale-hat broke free of the crowd before you, and the people cut off your escape before you could follow. You could hear someone yelling about wasted food, a bunch of incoherent shouting, and a frick ton of barking for somewhere any animals besides service dogs were not supposed to be. You weren’t exactly sure what was happening, but it smelled of trouble, and you could get in a LOT of trouble if this didn’t get resolved quickly!
“COMING THROUGH!” You held your arms around your face and bulldozed through the last students in your way, breaking out into the open–
Something big and heavy to slammed you to the ground, gave you a few licks and ran across you.
“POLAR BEAR!” One shadow jumped over you, quick as a whip.
“THAT'S A DOG IDIOT!” Another shadow soared overhead. “STOP CHASING HIM, HE THINKS THIS IS A GAME!”
“Oh my god, are you okay? I’m so fucking sorry about this!” Whale-hat paused his pursuit just long enough to help you up and make sure you could see straight. “PENG YOU IDIOT, YOU WERE SUPPOSED TO KEEP HIM OUTSIDE!”
“LET’S SEE YOU TRY TO CONTROL AN EXCITED DOG WHO WEIGHS AS MUCH AS YOU!!!”
Whale-hat ran off after you assured him you were fine, and you took in the scene before you. (Properly this time, no giant dogs to obstruct the view).
The dog in question (definitely able to be confused for a polar bear by size alone) was bounding joyously throughout the plaza, making new friends who would give him pets before he noticed the meat-kid and scamper excitedly away again. Behind Meat-kid were Whale-hat and his friend, trying desperately to call over the dog.
“IS THAT YOUR SHITTY DOG!?” A blonde guy yelled from across the plaza, remnants of a meal scattered around his feet. “IT JUST ATE ALL OF OUR DAMN FOOD!” Why had they decided to have a picnic in the library? And why was the dog close enough to raid their picnic?
“COME HERE POLAR BEAR!” The meat-kid got close enough he dived for the dog. You thought he would actually catch the dog, but the dog dodged at the last second, leaving a student available for meat-kid to tackle instead. You barely held back a snort at the sight of limbs flailing askew and they disappeared from view.
You scowled to compose yourself and took a deep breath; this had gone on long enough. Crossing the plaza, you snatched part of the lost meal and whistled and made some kissy noises. “Here boy! Come here! Want some food?” You patted your leg excitedly and crouched down, trying to lure the fluff monster over.
By some miracle, he heard you over all the noise and bounded over to you, graciously gobbling up the treat and basking while you showered him in rubs and praise (and took a hold of his collar). Whale-hat and his friend wheezed as they ran up to you, gasping out apologies and thanks as they reattached the leash and tied it to their belt. Was– was that a great idea?
“YOUR POLAR BEAR STOLE MY MEAT!” The meat-kid bounced back over to them, hunger and indignation emblazoned across his face. (Talk about the living embodiment of hangry.)
“That's a dog Strawhat-ya." From behind Strawhat came a tall lanky man with bags the size of hammocks under his eyes, freshly soaked in coffee and wearing a white fuzzy cap.
White hat. Tall. Probably needs to lay off the coffee. "Is that–"
"LAW! There you are!" Whale-hat laughed and interrupted you, "We were just taking Bepo out for a walk! And we brought you some–"
Law pulled something out of his pocket and chucked it in the opposite direction. Bepo bolted away faster than a squirrel in a nut factory, dragging poor Whale-hat’s friend behind him. You watched alarmed as the dog/human sled combo created a scene which reminded you of bowling pins in a bowling alley. Law then held out his hand expectantly; Whale-hat swallowed hard and reached into his pocket to pull out his wallet and a pack of... salted licorice? He handed the candy and a few bills over, and the lanky zombie disappeared with Strawhat bouncing after him.
What on earth was happening?
"Oi, shithead! What are you gonna do about my ruined food!? Poor Nami-san and Robin-chan are gonna starve because of you and your shitty mutt!" The blonde growled at Whale-hat, glaring him down in a way that might have been scary, had he not been several inches shorter than the one he was yelling at.
"A, that's not my dog, and B, if Bepo wanted to eat it, then it probably tastes like shit anyway!"
They both started arguing loudly over each other, and you buried your face in your hands. This certainly wasn’t how you wanted today to go. But now, it was time to get this mess straightened out.
"Alrighty boys, listen here,” you growled, “I will look over you," you pointed harshly at the blondie, "having food in the library and I will look over you," you poked Whale-hat in the chest, "having a dog in the library if you both get this mess cleaned up. NOW."
Both their eyes went wide and they lowered their heads and apologized before scampering away to clean up the spilled food. That’s odd, you never thought you were that intimidat–
“Sorry for the trouble,” an arm wrapped around your shoulder and you found yourself looking at the face of a very cute girl with orange hair, “I’ll make sure those idiots make it up to you.” She winked then strutted away.
You blinked as she disappeared. What the hell just happened? Could this day get any weirder? You shook your head and went to monitor the boys as they cleaned up. Several minutes of cleaning (and attempted flirting on the blonde’s part) later, the floor was clean, and you left them to pick up where you left off in your regular librarian duties.
Days later, you hadn’t run into any of them again, (though you think you might’ve seen Law passed out in the medical section), and it was all starting to feel like a weird fever dream.
That is, until you received a text from an unknown number while you were at work in the library.
This you? (Accompanied by a gif of you, being tackled by a big white furry smudge.)
It looked hilarious, but you were torn between laughing and wanting to cry. Was this all over the internet now? Were you a meme?
You could just say no, wrong number… But what were the chances some random stranger had a gif of the incident and then texted you?
Maybe. Who’s asking?
The typing symbol appeared and disappeared several times, but after a few minutes it didn’t appear. Well that was anticlimactic.
“Uh, hi. Sorry, I just wanted to check if the number Nami gave me was right, or if she was just trolling me.” A voice came from behind you and there he was: Whale-hat! Wait, who the heck was Nami, and how had she gotten your number to pass along?
“Who gave you my number?”
“The girl with the orange hair from the other day?” He frowned. “You didn’t give her your number?”
“Not that I recall…”
“Oh.” His eyes kept meeting yours then darting away again and he shuffled on the spot. You decided to have a little mercy on him.
“I never caught your name,” you extended your hand and introduced yourself properly.
“Ah, shit! I’m Shachi. Sorry about what happened the other day. We didn’t expect Bepo to cause such a mess.” He scratched the back of his neck and gave you an apologetic bow.
“It’s not your fault those students thought having a picnic in the library was a good idea,” you chuckled. “By the way, is your friend okay? The one who got dragged away?”
“Oh, Penguin’s fine! A couple of bruises and stuff, but he’ll live.”
“So, where did you get that gif?”
“Oh, you haven’t seen?” He pulled his phone out of his pocket, “Someone got a good video of the whole thing and it’s already got about half a million hits! I can send the link if you…” He trailed off remembering this might not be something you wanted to be famous for.
“Right, um…” Shachi blushed and shoved his phone back in his pocket. “I actually was here more than just to apologize and show you embarrassing gifs of yourself.” He tucked his hands behind his back and glanced around. “I mean, it can be part of the apology but I was going to ask if I could get you coffee or something sometime but if you don’t want to that’s fine. Nami was threatening me that I need to be a gentleman– BUT NOT TO ASK YOU OUT, I wanted to do that anyway before this whole fiasco happened, but then you know, this happened, and I–”
“You’re asking me on a date?” you felt the corner of your mouth twitch up.
“I– yes?” He smiled nervously at you.
You couldn’t help a small giggle. This felt waaayyyy too much like a scene from a bad fanfic, but it still made your heart go uwu.
“Okay. I have to get back to work, but text me later and we work out a time.” You waved and pushed your cart away. A wide grin split his face in two, and he waved back before running giddily away.
~~~
“I told you the Bepo plan was a sure fire way to get a date!”
*THWACK*
“That wasn’t how the Bepo plan was supposed to go! You owe me big time!”
Jason Todd X Singer! Fiancee! Reader - Under The Red Hood Part 1
Tumblr media
DC Comics Oneshots And Imagines ~Oneshots *Requests Open *
DC's Batman X Reader
Jason Todd X Singer! Fiancee! Reader - Under The Red Hood Part 1 - * Not A Request * * Slight Smut Warning *
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I don't own the DC Comic Book/TV Shows/Movie series Batman nor do I own any of the characters from the franchise. I just own my writing skills and my very active imagination. I really hope you all enjoy this oneshot I made.
This is a Jason Todd oneshot ( or Jason, 2nd Robin, Red Hood ) and this oneshot takes place during the film: Batman: Under The Red Hood. So if you don't know the story of Jason Todd after he became the 2nd Robin or you haven't seen the movie then SPOILER ALERT: BEWARE!!
If you don't want to be spoiled then don't read this oneshot until you've watched it.
Other than that lovely note, enjoy this oneshot~!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Your POV:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
( Author's Note: The reader doesn't know that Jason Todd was Robin or Red Hood, nor does she know about Bruce Wayne being Batman. She'll find out though. )
It had been about year since my beloved Jason had passed away and it had taken me by surprise. I couldn't deal with it at first, I barely slept, I barely ate, I barely moved, I barely did anything at all and it badly affected my career and personal life so I had step down from my current job as singer.
Fortunately, I had my friends, family, fans and my deepest and closest friend; Bruce Wayne to help me in my time of need. After a few months had passed after Jason's death, I started to get better little by little and then my music career got back on schedule.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
" Okay, just like that (Y/N___ )! " My photographer, Harold, said to me with a pleasing smile on his face.
" You got it! " I replied back to him while smiling back as I striked another pose.
" Can we get some more smoke up in here, I need my prize singer to look like she's in a mystical place right now! " Harold yelled out in front of the entire crew to get at least one of them to get a smoke machine.
" Hahaha.... " I laughed out loud.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* 30 minutes later *
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
" Okay, that's a wrap people! We'll see all of you lovelies next week for the premiere of the promotion ad. " Harold yelled out while he whipped out his camera and began to scroll through the photos of me. I leaned over his shoulder and watched him scroll through them kinda fast.
" Uh, Harold? "
" Yes, my star model? " He replied without even turning his head towards me.
" I've um noticed that....you haven't deleted any of my photos. " I said.
" Yeah, and? " He replied while still not facing me.
" Well, I've observed you long enough to know that when you are done taking pictures of your models that you go through them and delete the photos you don't like or just doesn't work. However, you haven't deleted any of mine. " I pointed out to him.
" Yeah, because every photo of you is gorgeous so deletion is not necessary for you. " Harold said while approaching the last photo. I blushed a little bit.
" B-But what about this one, I look kind of silly in this don't I? " I pointed towards my face in the photo when I accidentally cracked a smile at the time.
" Oh please darling, silly is the new sexy to me. Besides, you need to be genuine in your photos otherwise the public won't like them. " Harold said reassuring me while turning the camera off.
" Silly is the new sexy? Why do I have a that will somehow catch on and become a thing? " I said while smiling slightly.
" That's because it will! I said it first and what I say and do instantly becomes popular! " Harold said while smiling brightly.
" Right. So Harold, should I have tried to be more sexy in some of those photos? " I asked.
" Tried!? Ha! Sweetheart, you're a natural at it and if you try to become even more sexy then our ovaries would have exploded and we would have passed out on the spot. " Harold places a hand on my shoulder, laughing.
" Awww that's sweet, I bet you say that about all of your models. " I said while looking down at my feet but then both my and Harold's head quickly turned to the left to see one of the staff members scoffing.
" Ha! No he doesn't. You are one of kind (Y/N___), In fact I can't even begin to tell you half of the stuff he says about the other models. " The staff member said while moving one of the lights across the room.
" What!? The clients I get stuck with are nothing but stuck up princess who think that they are all hot stuff because they have somewhat good looks and some little fame added to their resumes! " Harold yelled back and ran after the staff member.
I could only laugh at the sight of this wonderful moment and walk towards to my dressing room so I could change out of my modeling clothes and into my regular clothes.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
* 1 Hour Later *
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I walked through the streets of Gotham and towards my flat. I walked towards my flat door and scrambled through my purse for my keys. I finally found them and unlocked the door, I entered my flat while placing the keys in the key bowl next to the door.
As I close the door, I placed my handbag down onto the couch and my pet dog came running up to me while barking his head off.
( Author's Note: If you're allergic to dogs then switch to cats and if your allergic to both then pretend whatever animal you want as your pet. )
" Summer? What's the matter boy? " I asked him but he just kept barking like crazy.
( Another Author's Note: I chose Summer as the pet's name and if you don't like it then you can change it. )
Summer then ran off to my bedroom door and began to scratch and paw at it. I quickly got the knife that was in my handbag and cautiously began to approach the door. I was thinking that maybe someone had broken into my flat despite it being locked earlier.
As I approached the door, I took a hand on the doorknob and quickly opened it and swung the door open. When I looked into my bedroom, I saw nothing. I sighed in relief while thinking that maybe someone did come in but they left just before I got home. I walked over to my bed and sat down on the comfy mattress. I then flung the knife over to my dartboard on the wall.
" I see you still haven't lost your signature touch for the game. " I heard a deep voice and I quickly turned my head to see a masked figure in the corner of my room.
" Aah! Who are you!? What do you want!? And.... " I started and then he hushed me while walking over to me and kneeling down to my level.
" Hush now sweetheart, your love from the past has come back for you. " The man in the red hooded mask said gently and took my hand and brought it to his masked face.
" That's impossible, the only love I had in the past was Jason and he and my love are buried 6 feet underground! " I whipped my hand away and stood up angrily.
" Oh it's so sweet to hear that you haven't moved on from me (Y/N__). " The Red Masked man said.
" What did you just say? " I said in a tone mixed with anger and confusion.
" I said I think it's very sweet to see that you haven't moved on from me. " He replied.
" Moved on from you? What are you even talking about? Do I know you? " I asked now demanding answers.
" Oh well I don't suppose you would recognize me while I'm wearing this. " The masked man then pressed a button on the back of his red hood and I heard a hissing noise and then he dropped his mask onto the ground.
I saw the mask hit the ground and I looked up to see the strange man covered by another mask, it was covering his eyes.
" Well? How about now? " He asked me while getting closer to me, close enough to feel his breath on my face. When I heard his voice out of the mask, it sounded somewhat familiar and calming. I looked more closely at his facial features while trying to place where I might have seen him before.
" Do you mind if I? " I said while placing both of my hands on each side of his head and towards the mask.
" Go right ahead. " He said. I took off his black mask and I quickly dropped the mask and slightly gasped.
Jason, It was my Jason. My beloved fiancee whom I had lost for about a year and who I believed to be dead for the rest of my life.
" J-Jason? " I muttered out his name.
" That's right (Y/N___ ) I'm really happy you didn't move on from me. If you did then I would truly be lost right now. " Jason said while grabbing both of my hands and kneeling in front of me again.
I could only stare at Jason with wide eyes and my mouth hanging open a little while my mind races about 1000 miles per second. My mind filling with questions about Jason and questioning whether or not any of this was real.
About 25 minutes later had passed and Jason was sitting next to me and I was just keeping the silence from being broken. Jason was sitting next to me on the bed and turned his head slightly to me and he had a concerned look on his face.
" (Y/N__)? " Jason said my name to get my attention.
" I'm here! " I replied while looking at him with a blank expression on my face.
" How are you with processing the fact that I'm not dead? You've been quiet for the pass 30 minutes. " Jason then placed a hand on my shoulder as he asked me.
" Oh I'm fine, really. So.....how did you um.....get raised from the dead? " I asked while trying to calm my brain down so I wouldn't freak out.
" By being bathed in a rejuvenating pool of youth. " Jason answered me rather quickly.
" Uh-huh, when did that happen? " I nodded while asking him another question.
" About 3 months after my death. "
" I'm sorry what? "
" What? "
" You were alive 3 months after your death and you didn't bother coming to me or Bruce until now? " I started getting more confused and definitely mad.
" Well, I had to wait to come to you. Bruce on the other hand was a different story. " Jason replied.
" Wait a minute, wait one freaking minute. You went to Bruce first and then you waited all this time to come and see me? While I mourned your death for many months and I was all alone in my home waiting for death to come and get me so I could be with you again, you were alive the ENTIRE time and you didn't even bother coming here to let me know you were alive and okay!? " I yelled at him.
" (Y/N__ )! Please calm down! I couldn't let you see me in the current state I was in at the time! If I did then you would never want to be with me again! " Jason yelled back in defense.
" You're such an idiot Jason! We've been together for 6 years and I cannot believe you still don't know one single thing about me! I would've loved you and wanted to be with you no matter what you looked like. You're so stupid! " I yelled at him again as tears poured down my face.
" I'm....I'm sorry (Y/N___ )... " Jason hung his head in shame with a frown on his face.
" Yeah....well not as sorry as your about to be. " I whispered as I then attacked him with such force that it knocked him down onto the ground.
" What are you doing (Y/N___)!? " Jason asked me in major confusion as watched me pin his wrists with my hands.
" I'm getting my revenge you jerk. " I slapped him and sat on his waist so that he couldn't move.
" What kind of revenge are we talking about? " Jason asked nervously.
" That's for me to know and for you to eventually find out in time. " I said while gripping my hands tighter around his wrists.
" Agh! " Jason grimaced in pain.
" That's exactly how I felt with the months that passed by without you. " I said while my tears continued to fall down my face.
" I'm sorry (Y/N___ ), truly I am. However, It's nice to see you still have the fighting skills I taught you on hand but unfortunately right now is not the time to use them my love. " Jason said while frowning.
" I know but you deserve it. " I replied while trying to not look at him.
" I know and you deserve this. "
Jason then flipped his entire body over and on top of mine and I yelped as my body hit the ground. He then pinned my wrists with his hands and started to kiss my neck down to my collar bone. I moaned out accidentally while closing my eyes, not wanting to look at him.
" Honey, I'm sorry for not coming to you right away when you needed me the most but I'm here now and I'm not going anywhere ever again. I'm here to stay and for you only. " Jason said while placing his lips on top of mine and we kissed so sweetly that I wanted more of him so I dropped my act of revenge and resistance.
" Okay....I'm sorry for hitting you. " I said while kissing his sweet lips over and over again.
" It's alright, you're not the only one who's been hitting me. Bruce was pretty pissed too. " Jason said while unpinning my wrists from his strong hands.
" Has he? " I said in the midst of out kiss while wrapping my arms aroung Jason's neck.
" Oh yeah but I've handled worse to be honest. " Jason's hands then traveled down from breasts and down to my waist.
" Wow, I've missed you so much Jason. " I moaned out.
" You have no idea how much I've missed you as well, especially with all of those sexy ads of you plastered all over Gotham City. " Jason said and as I pulled away from our kiss to breathe, I blushed.
" You saw those? " I asked.
" Oh yeah, it was hard for me not to come here and make you mine while I was covered in scars. " Jason said rubbing himself against on me. I moaned louder this time.
" Well you should've. " I said while trying to compose myself.
" I know. " He says while rubbing harder.
" We got a lot of catching up to do. " I said while trying to keep my moans in.
" Oh yes we do. " Jason smirked at me.
Marlene Dietrich/Josef von Sternberg marathon: The Blue Angel, Morocco (1930), Dishonored, and Shanghai Express (1931)
I watched all of these films, the Blue Angel in German (which surprisingly didn’t hurt, though I might have missed some puns), so I could be prepped for the great movie podcast “There’s Sometimes a Buggy” that is covering the collaboration that made Marlene Deitrich as we know her. I don’t have a lot of exposure (more on my movie history later) to the early talkie years so these movies were a bit surprising to me on a lot of fronts, not the least reason for which was that I wasn’t brought up in rape culture, I guess (is this what people mean when they say that? cause, jeesh! every movie, the threat is just there). Funny enough, I felt that The Blue Angel was the only one that was really political to me along axes that felt vital, which is peculiar as the other three were about political conflict of factions/nations and make statements about war, nationalism, and the other, but I guess they don’t seem political in a sense that fits with current discourse. I didn’t see the CPC officer in Shanghai Express as pro communist but as a tentative stab at ambivalent nuance of the other’s perspective, a tipping of the hand that there’s a western-centracism in his absurd rape code (this is a common feature through the films of a “first claim” that a certain type of man has on a woman that has nothing to do with what she wants), and as ultimately an example of the brutality of violent conflict (more pointed because he’s been fleshed out).  But I admit, by the films' equalizing the other side (the Russians, the CPC and even the Tunisian rebels if only by making the French Foreign Legion look so terrible) that is in itself a statement.  Kubrick’s Paths of Glory seems to pick up where this leaves off.
The Blue Angel is the film I have the most to say about, and was the most interesting conceptually, but was hard to sync with for technical reasons (me not speaking German maybe being one of them).  Through the films, we watch Dietrich get better at being a talkie actress and the Blue Angel doesn’t push her that hard, but this may be more a function of the camerawork and editing than anything else.  Jannings somehow works better with her as a leading man than anyone but Dishonored’s McLaglen because he can fill the space created by her silent movie style of encapsulated performative moments then stasis/posing, though the let it breathe editing doesn’t help (I almost think her hand on ribcage pose starts as a need for her to have something to do when reacting that seems like a reaction).  Morocco’s Gary Cooper sometimes seems like he’s in a different space than her and Shanghai’s Brook is super clipped (though she’s better adapted by then).
In Blue Angel, the effort to create composite Mise-en-scène with the ominous foreground frames is terrific (those anchors hanging down! the professor’s approach to the club!) and we have some of that German expressionist inner state stuff going on, especially at the end (the shadow of the chandelier!) but the cameraman doesn’t seem to know where to be and maybe that explains the ostensibly crappy blocking.  The cinematography on the others is much better – the superimposed tracking shots in Morocco are phenomenal – and have just as many knockout myth buildingly shot scenes (too many to mention but her in a tux in Morocco,  the final escape in Dishonored, the prayer in Shanghai Express).  All the movies have enough differences in approach that you could think they were done by a different team (were the external shots in Morocco the ones shot by Peckinpah’s eventual AD, Lucien Ballard?).
There are all sorts of motifs running through the films: clocks (and calendars), racially insensitive dolls, men’s hats on women, skein-like drapes sometimes burned by irons vs drawn opaque shades, a man eavesdropping to get mood altering information from behind a louvered door, clowns/harlequins, throwing stuff that will need to be cleaned up on the floor/wall, makeup application in a number of functions (e.g. highlighting her performative nature, emasculation of men), sitting/sprawling on things as an act of feminine claiming of the space, guttural and animal noises as announcement we’re in a libidinal space positive or negative, the stockings, the kept animals, and all sorts of recurring human archetypes.   But it’s The Blue Angel, with its full bore usage of these things plus more (eggs, nautical detritus, clock figurines, etc, that the subliminal story is the most present (though Dishonored is pretty potent).
The reason why I say Blue Angel is the most socio-political is that as a 2019 person on the internet who sees the culture war, is aware of the history of Weimar imagery as handled post Nazi, and knows what’s coming (spoilers for Hitler), the statement being made looks really complicated with a first pass of: the intelligencia’s embrace of the subaltern as primarily an instrument-possession both losses them cultural power and leaves them outside of the outgroup too, which is how, maybe, regressive populism (the students as rabble) wins. Granted this is an Iser-type hermeneutical hot take and it is complicated by the possibility that Jannings codes as pre-Hitler German populace’s growing conflation of left wing and Jewish as “dark other” (problematic, hard to bring the 1930 and 2019 horizons together on this, mileage may vary, but a case can be made) which would almost make this an anti-radical (on both sides) statement that meshes with the other movies’ anti-violence, anti group/idea allegiance, pro-people take. This is just the "bad decision" version. As for Jannings, the lumpen here is fine with him as long as he performs correctly.  Maybe this is an artifact of Dietrich not being the protagonist by a director who wants her to be.  The thing that really overlays this from a now standpoint, though, is the rhyming with a kind of 4chan framing where he has lost his “rightful” power, is “cucked,” and has an entitled-male rage tm (i.e. this can be read as an anti incel-ideology movie). The other movies don’t have this kind of congruence for the most part.
But the way the symbols work is pretty neat.  His descent from prominent social capital to internationally renowned cock-a-doodle-do jester is marked by the change in the relationship with eggs as sexual enticement vs humiliation (and the humiliation was there from the beginning to be sure).  The clown is there as a warning/future self.  The special clocks that eerily suggests his/society’s demons are coming and no one can stop the forward mechanism of time. The caged bird is as you would expect.  The dolls are a sort of self possession that she does test runs giving away.  There’s too much to talk about.
Morocco has Cooper’s charisma going for it (which works best with Dietrich’s when they cut back and forth), the best non-closeup camerawork (the exteriors are great), large scale staging, and that cool woman in a tux mythmaking performance piece.  It contains Cooper’s great non-verbal performance in the scene where he eventually writes “changed my mind” on the mirror (you can see him decide).   The last scene of her trudging across the desert and throwing away her heals is great, and there is so much motion in the frame so often – the superimposition of movement that turns a dissolve into a long transitional double shot, the scene where she looks for him in the marching parade, etc. The relief map was hinky, though.
Dishonored was my favorite of the four. I liked all these films but, broken down, it had a couple of “bests” in it, but was #2 for everything else.  It had the best-functioning male lead (the always in a mask non-naturalistic thing was perfect as that how she is and it balanced the space well) and a greater share of my very favorite scenes: the final escape scene, the party, the firing squad, and any any fucking piano playing (the first shot of her playing piano is my favorite shot of all the films).  It’s the second best as a subliminal story (after Blue Angel), was the only one other than Shanghai Express that seemed like it had a screenplay - a story story rather than a loose idea, the idea of certain shots, the actors types, and dialogue. It had the most convincing sweep other than Morocco. The cat was a nice setting free of agency, progressing the doll as totem of self/other possession but with a mind of its own, with the power to ruin everything.  This movie really vibed with me perfectly.
For Shanghai Express, see above, but I have to say I love the Disney villainess (before there were Disney villainesses) dress.  The multi note secondary characters with actual performances and arcs was unique... the pastor who changes his mind on what is morally good is terrific, as are the exchanges between two fully fleshed out prostitutes and an old prude.  My list is close, but If I had to order it would be Dishonored, Blue Angel, Shanghai, then Morocco, but it’s tough because the great things about each vary so much (I kept dithering on the bottom three more than #1, I considered putting Morocco 2nd).
It’s odd I’ve written this much and I haven’t broached the gender archetype pushing and pulling here, mainly because this seems pretty well mined territory.  I’m under-read on this and feel like my take would be super cold -- cross dressing, Gary Cooper with a flower behind his ear, the unflinching depiction of how tough a time women have it while still depicting a kind of unique female cruelty to men, and the constant sexist statements undermined by the POV and what actually happened.  Hopefully my naive viewpoint, coming at this fresh eyes will be valuable. So, like, are all these movies from this time period about class?  It kind of reminds me of Impro, the Keith Johnstone book, which basically boils all theatrical character interaction to being about status.
Anyway, I’ve ignored my exegesis of Taylor Swift’s Lover to write this, so I must be back to work.
I will forever maintain the biggest mistake Riordan made in writing The Heroes of Olympus was splitting the POV to a different character each chapter. The 2nd being the entire plot line with Gaea.
Percy Jackson as a whole had so much magic to it that the Heroes of Olympus just didn't have. A lot of it had to do with it entirely being from Percy's perspective, who we saw grow (and grew with). Not only was Percy Jackson personal, but the plot line with the Titans using estranged demigods in their army was incredibly conflicting and emotional. The Heroes of Olympus just didn't have that!
It also always bothered me that after the resolution at the end of The Last Olympian, the characters are immediately ejected into a new quest to prevent Gaea from overtaking the world. It made me feel: what was the point?
Gaea was supposed to be a bigger threat, but it definitely did not feel like it. Arachne was the most memorable villain in the series.
Riordan should have scrapped Gaea and focused more on the relations between Camp Halfblood and Camp Jupiter. It's hard to feel invested in Camp Jupiter when Camp Halfblood had 5 books dedicated to it. The series should have been from the POV of one character from Camp Jupiter.
Having each book in a different perspective would have also worked. Chopping up POVs into a roulette of chapters for 5 brand new characters had the reader barely meet the characters.
Here's my hot take: Piper and Leo should have been Roman demigods along with the others and Leo should have been the main character. It could even be a plot point where how they have to reconcile their personalities clashing with Camp Jupiter's rules.
Out of all the characters introduced in the Heroes of Olympus, Leo's chapters were the best ones. While still sarcastic like Percy, his voice is distinctive enough to be different from Percy's but not bland like some other characters...
And then from Leo's POV, the reader would have quickly realized the mysterious demigod who appeared at Camp Jupiter was Percy! And then go from there.
And THEN in the 2nd or 3rd book, Hazel is introduced and is recently brought back from the dead through Nico. Hazel seems mysterious and is acting strange through Leo's POV, and eventually it's revealed that 1) she was brought back from the underworld 2) she knew his grandpa. (Also... she and Frank wouldn't date, since that age gap was odd.)
The Argos II was a nice homage to Jason and the Argonauts. That can be kept for some quests they would have inevitably went on to Greece and Rome.
Levihan Fanfiction Favorites
I know this is a little late, but thanks for 200 followers <3
I probably could never express in words how much I love these fics, and I apologize if my thoughts are a bit all over the place or don’t make any sense, but I just want to tell you guys why I love these so much as best as I can!  (っ˘ω˘ς )
I literally had to stop myself from going into detail about why I love every sentence of all these fanfics.
Thank you authors for writing these masterpieces!
Not in any particular order:
Ocean Talks - by kindredghosts
One of my favorites of all time -This fic takes place after the events of chapter 90, and features Hange and Levi having a talk together after a year of avoiding each other over Levi’s decision to give Armin the serum instead of Erwin.
There were so many moments (and a few that made me laugh too) that really pulled on my heartstrings and I really hope a discussion of this sort is explored in canon.
Spoilers
I love how they portray Levi and Hange’s bond/relationship. Levi and Hange are so tense with each other at first, because of their lack of communication, but as soon as they open up to each other and are honest, they are back to their old selves again and start teasing each other like they always have. Having that talk and being honest with each other caused them to feel relieved and at peace, which I think really helps show how close they are. There are also many points in the fic where their understanding in each other and bond of trust is displayed which to me is something that is a crucial part of their relationship.
This piece also has one of my favorite fanfic endings as well it was too cute. And that ending dialogue “We will protect each other.” hits me in the feels every time I read it.
Aftermath - by  just_quintessentially_me
I immediately knew after reading the summary, that this was going to be one of the best things I’ve ever read. This fic takes place after Bertholdt and Reiner reveal themselves as the Colossal and Armored Titan and attack the wall. Levi is on his way to the wall when poor Pastor Nick (understandably) confuses Hange as Levi’s wife when he sees him growing worried about her fate. This is a piece that really feels like a part of the actual series, and had comedic elements as well that were flawlessly written. They completely nailed the personalities of the characters which was amazing. The last thing I will say before the spoilers below is that this made me appreciate Pastor Nick on a whole new level.
Spoilers
First off,  Levi’s utter disbelief and confusion with the pastor’s mistake and growing frustration when Nick just did not understand that they weren’t a couple was truly hilarious. Although the way Levi was worrying about Hange so much (which was adorable by the way) and how they always act like a married couple when they are together, I wouldn’t blame the pastor at all for thinking they were married. And actually in a way, the discussion between Pastor Nick and Levi kind of leads to Levi opening up and realizing his feelings for Hange.
When Hange finds out the pastor wants to marry them after he interrupted their couple-like discussion, Levi’s feelings are revealed. This moment made my heart burst because they both knew they loved each other, but the heart-breaking thing was that they simply could not bring themselves to say anything. They both are characters that aren’t good with words as is seen in the series. In the fic, they confess their feelings to each other using actions which I think is something that fits both their character’s perfectly. And they understand each other so they both know what the other means. Seriously though, another one of the most memorable things I’ve ever read is this part: “I’ve always-....she splayed her fingers where her palm rested, directly over his heart.” She couldn’t say it and neither could Levi, but Levi understands what she means and returns the gesture.
I love how Hange says that for them, it was a sort of proposal (my heart was hit with a case of the feels when Levi brought up the idea of having a private marriage ceremony), because Levi and Hange don’t have the luxury of being able to say  “I love you” because of how their world is, but they don’t really need to because what they have is enough for them.
But seriously, Pastor Nick basically caused Levihan to be canon. Thank you Pastor Nick.  ( ̄ω ̄)
All of Me - by JulyStorms
In this piece, Hange encounters an unconscious Levi while fleeing from Titans. . She fights to keep them alive, and soon Mike arrives to help but he only has enough resources to save one of them.
Let’s just say this piece gave me an overwhelming amount of feels and has one of the most unforgettable scenes that I’ve ever read.
Spoilers
Hange knew she was going to die when she sent Levi with Mike, but she wanted so badly for Levi to survive, and begged Mike to save him. Hange’s desperation for Levi to live was really beautifully written. Man that's true love right there.(T_T) This scene was heartbreaking for me because of Levi’s helplessness. He was so injured that he didn’t have the ability to stop her.  I personally see Levi as a character that strongly desires to have control in his life and I feel like the fact that he couldn’t do anything was devastating to him.
It hit me hard when Levi lost it after waking up in the medical wing. It was written so that you can hear the raw fear in his voice. He knew she wasn’t alright but he didn’t know what happened. When he found out she was presumed dead he wanted to go back to look for a body. (and her wings) And my lord it was so sad when Levi kept calling out to Hange as if he expected her to respond. That line where he announces she is officially dead; it was written so well because I feel like it shows that Levi is emotionally broken and struggling to retain his normal stoic composure.
The scenes where we see Levi struggling to deal with Hange’s passing are something that feel really impactful. The way I interpreted Levi’s feelings based on my own interpretations of him is that he has been so lonely his whole life that once his loneliness is replaced with feelings of love and comfort that if that were to be taken away from him it would break him, and I think that’s what happened to him when he believed Hange died.
Heart-bites - by Huntress_of_Life
This is a parental Levihan fanfiction from Levi’s p.o.v., in which he experiences a type of feeling he doesn’t know how to deal with.
Parental feels are something that really hits home for me. I remember looking for a piece like this for a long time, and this was so perfect, and so beautifully written that I was sobbing by the end of it. (and I don’t cry often) The characterization was just right and Levi’s anxiety and emotions could strongly be felt. Every time I read this piece I swear I start crying or at least tear up.  I won’t say too much about this one, because I think the best way to explain why this is such a beautiful piece is just to go read it.
Spoilers
Levi has dealt with so much loss and pain in his life, that the pure joy he feels when his child is born clashes with his stoic mentality and he thinks something is wrong with his heart. I think the fact that he believes something is wrong with his heart also has to do with the fact that he had an extreme lack of affection as a child. He isn’t used to feelings of love. He is so anxious to confront his feelings, but when he thinks of Hange and their journey together, his walls start coming down, and his heart sings thinking about his new family.
Once he holds his daughter, he is completely relaxed, because he realizes his anxiety came from wanting to see her so badly. (This is the part where my floodgates broke) At the end Hange wakes up and of course she reads him like an open book, not only because their bond is so strong, but also because I can only imagine how happy Levi would look.
End of Spoilers
This piece was one of the most touching and precious things I’ve ever read, omg I’m internally crying just thinking about it
More Cute Levihan Fanfics
I apologize if I don’t have much to say about these, but I love them just as much <3
Never Normal with Us - by WhatHistoryForgets
Another Parental Levihan fic, in which the titans are defeated, and Levi just wants his children to have a normal life. And oh my lord I love this piece because I personally think that since Levi grew up in such terrible conditions that he’d work hard to make his children feel as loved as possible even though he may be pretty awkward about it.
also lmao I thought it was perfect how Erwin is the uncle figure
Turn - by ConfusedMuse
In this piece, Hange and Levi attend a military fundraiser ball and Levi sees a different side of Hange.
Amazing characterization for Hanjo in here
I really hope someone makes fanart of Hange in that uniform
When Forever Rolls on Through, I'll be Holding On to You - by LesboDyke
A piece in which Levi receives Hange’s jacket, and after a tragedy, reads through her journals. This fic ripped my heart out.
Spoilers
They were married ;-;
The way they said goodbye was just so… them. They’re such abnormals.          (。T ω T。)  It was perfect and cute and I died.
And then I loved the way Levi just knew something was wrong. I think it’s an Ackerman thing to have the ability to instantly know when their loved ones are in danger.
Another thing is that like in the manga, Hange is non-binary, and I love how when someone refers to Hange as a “she” Levi is quick to correct them. This ties into one of my favorite things about Levihan, (although everything about Levihan is great) that Levi and Hange have so much respect for each other, and that Levi wants to make sure that Hange gets the respect they deserve.
The ending killed me. (っ˘̩╭╮˘̩)っ
Unexpected Fairytales & The Kitten Smith Chronicles - by raisedinthunder
I love raisedinthunder’s writing.  ( ´ ▽ ` ) A ton of perfect fluffy fics to read after a bad day or just after reading a really sad piece. I reread these all the time because my gosh they make me so happy.
Dancing Under a Blue Moon - by Stratagem
Yet another Parental Levihan fic (I love these)
In this fic, Hange and their daughter work together to get Levi to dance with them
EVERYTHING ABOUT THIS FIC WAS PERFECT
I feel like this piece really shows how much Levi’s family means to him. Also, I just wanted to mention that I died immediately when reading the beginning of this piece simply because they described the Levihan family as “The Ackermans” and I think picturing the words “Hange Ackerman” was too much for my heart to handle.
Here's the full list of Vicbourne like things I've found in Anne Bronte's "The Tenant of Wildfell Hall" in order.  I loved this book so much as it's such a great story and ahead of it's time, and then add in all the Vicbourne things and the real connection to Lord M and it's so good.  It's so weird as not only did Gilbert and Helen remind me of Vicbourne but discovering that Lord M, Caro, and Byron all inspired characters and Lord M's counterpart ended up with a 2nd wife like Victoria, and other characters that reminded me of ones in "Victoria" including Helen and her first husband having a dog named Dash. There were also many Vicbourne style scenes including their walks and talks, horseback riding, her sketching, him giving her flowers, dances, and even rooks! And even a scene many of us wished happened during the wedding. So it's behind a cut because it's long. LOL :)
- Gilbert Markham's writing style through the letters (each chapter is a letter to his brother-in-law) and the way he talks and personality are so similar to Lord M, as well as his relationships with his two siblings and taking over the family farm and house after their dad died, and getting his thoughts on things especially with Helen and how he keeps getting distracted by her especially in church. LOL He's also a farmer which made me think of Rufus in "Cold Comfort Farm" or the gifs/pics I've seen since I still need to watch it. - Helen's described as looking somewhat similar to Jenna with the very dark eyes, and personality wise matches Victoria's too and she's very protective of her son Arthur (which was the name of one of Victoria's sons) and not wanting him to turn into his father (who was a cheater and an alcoholic). When the book switches to her POV she's been raised by her aunt & uncle in London and at 18 gets forced to look for a husband even though she doesn't really want to marry and gets warned against marrying her first husband. - Arthur immediately becomes attached to Gilbert and Gilbert's dog and these scenes are adorable (Gilbert refers to him as "the little gentleman"). - Helen is a painter and sketches often which Gilbert admires her skill greatly and just sits and watches her in amazement. - All three love going on horseback rides and walks together, and eventually Gilbert & Helen start calling each other by their first names which Gilbert loves. - Gilbert starts buying and giving things to Helen and her son including books, a puppy, and flowers which Helen thinks she owes him money for it but he tells her he got them all as gifts for them and wants to make them happy. - Wildfell Hall like Brockett Hall was built in the first Elizabeth era but hasn't been as tended and up kept as Brocket Hall . - Gilbert loves dancing, especially waltzes. - Gilbert thinks he loves his first girlfriend Eliza but once he meets Helen and comes to know her & her son and learns her story, that changes. - Gilbert's mother can't stand Eliza and even calls her a hussy (didn't know that word existed in Victorian times). - His sister Rose also befriends Helen and reminds me of Emma. - Eventually the town starts gossiping and making up rumors about Helen's past which angers Gilbert and makes him even more protective of her and Arthur. - There is a scene very similar to the "Brocket Hall" one but Helen is the one who tells Gilbert they can't be anything more than friends and refers to them as companions while he is holding her hand. Still doesn't stop Gilbert from loving her. - Helen gives Gilbert her diary so he can read her full story and know the truth of why she had to start over and the narration for those chapters switches to Helen's POV in her diary entries. - Helen's first husband Mr. Huntingdon is based partly on Lord Byron after Anne read his biography and was intrigued by his younger years and affair with Lord M's wife Caro, and wanted to tell something similar but about a woman based on Byron's wife and starting over in a new town and finding love again. - As I mentioned in my other post Lord M and Caro are characters in this named Lord Lowborough and Annabella. We get introduced to Annabella first, then Lord L (who is said to have been born under a unlucky star and have bad things happen to him, and has very dark green eyes and his whole face & air changes when he's happy), and they marry and have two kids before the affair starts.  It plays out almost exactly the same as real life but Lord L divorces Annabella (who later dies penniless) and he eventually falls in love again to a very kind and decent woman, and his son & daughter get a loving step-mom which he thanks God daily for. So Anne possibly gave Lord M two happy endings. :) - Helen didn't like Lord L at first but they became friends once she noticed he had already matured from Huntingdon and their friends and Lord L is really nice.  Their friendship gets closer after the affair with their spouses and they keep in touch, and later with Gilbert, as life has been kind to them with their 2nd spouses. - Helen's relationship with her aunt reminds me of Victoria and her mother, while Helen is very close with her uncle a lot like how I've read Victoria really was with Leopold. - Huntingdon has a couple dogs but favors one named Dash who is also a spaniel!  But is sometimes very mean to him and Dash runs to Helen to be comforted and protected, and forms an attachment to her. - Helen's maid Rachel reminds me a lot of Lehzen as she's been with the family since Helen was a baby, and ends up being a huge help when Helen and Arthur leave her husband and moves with them to Wildfell Hall and is distrusting of Gilbert at first. - Helen's verbal abuse from Huntingdon is hard to read but at the same time it reminds me of Sir John and how he manipulated Victoria's mom and also was abusive to Victoria.  Helen also feels she's trapped in her own home till she finally leaves with Rachel and Arthur. - Helen's relief at getting to Wildfell Hall safely with Arthur and Rachel and starting her life over reminded me of Victoria taking charge of her life and leaving Kensington for Buckingham Palace. - When Gilbert finishes reading Helen's diary he falls in love with her even more and wants to comfort her and give her a better life.  He has so much hope and then marvels at the dawn of the next morning and seeing the animals including the rooks!!! - Helen does like Lord M and even though she loves Gilbert too she still tells Gilbert they can't be together because of the fear of Huntingdon finding out and what he would do to her, Arthur, and Gilbert.  They tearfully part after sharing a kiss and long hug but promise to writer letters. - The "Further Reading" section has a thing about the original novel of Rufus' other miniseries "Middlemarch" and how Dorothea & Will's relationship is similar to that of Helen & Gilbert's including Gilbert worrying Huntingdon wrote in his will Helen couldn't remarry but that wasn't the case. - After almost a year lots of things happen as they lose touch with Gilbert only hearing a few things from Helen's brother.  Huntingdon dies painfully and you end up feeling sorry for how he died.  Then months later Gilbert is told from Eliza that Helen is marrying Mr. Hargave, a ex-friend of Huntingdon's who had feelings for Helen but she refused him.  Gilbert get freaked out and rushes to the wedding to stop it, like some of us wanted to happen with Vicbourne, but it turns out it's Helen's brother getting married to Hargrave's sister and it's so funny how Anne wrote it. LOL - Then it turns out Helen's uncle died too and left her his estate and majority of money.  This makes Helen rise in status and rank, and is now considered too far above to marry Gilbert without people looking down on the match exactly like if Victoria married Lord M.  He thinks that's the end and decides to leave till Arthur sees him and yells for their carriage to stop so he and Helen can talk to Gilbert. - It all ends very happily for Gilbert and Helen as once they're alone she tells him she never stopped thinking about him and loves him so much.  Gilbert is so happy to hear this and proposes which Helen accepts and they kiss.  Arthur walks in on them and Gilbert realizes Arthur is his son now.  They all get happy endings with Gilbert & Helen having a happy marriage, at least 2 kids, taking care of Helen's aunt and Rachel till their deaths, and Arthur grows up to be a good man and husband like Helen hoped. :)
Fanfiction Writer Interviews!
I’ve decided to interview writers of Next Generation fanfiction, to see how such an open-ended universe can impact the fans. And whether or not social media or certain fans influence the way we view other characters.
Your Rose Weasley may not be the same as mine basically.
Today I’ve decided to interview Nessie or her ff.net username Nessie-The Pillow Biting Monster. She is also known as @anopheliamiratio
!!SPOILER ALERT!! This interview may contain spoilers for the fanfic so go away if you don’t want to read. Otherwise, the link is down below if you want to read the fic.
Link:https://www.fanfiction.net/s/7585004/1/James-Potter-and-the-New-Marauders
Q. How did you first get this idea of starting a Next Generation fanfiction?
A.That’s a tough one. It has been so long since I started planning this story. I always liked Next Gen fanfics, even in other fandoms. Back in High School, I finished Deathly Hallows and there was the Epilogue… it was screaming “Write a story about what happens next!”, didn’t it? In fact, my writing skills were hardly adequate to write Harry Potter fiction in English back then. So I scribbled down some stuff (let’s say the draft of chapter 1) and then started gathering information.
Q. How would you describe all the characters in 3 words? A. Witty, sneaky, mischievous?
Q. Do you feel as if your portrayal of these characters are different from what people expect? If so, tell me why.
A.I’m not sure. There’s this flawed logic that kicks in when I get to work with so “undefined” characters. There are a few things that “make sense” to happen, so I use them as a base. For example, James was teasing Albus in the Epilogue, so I figured he could be a prankster in general. Of course, readers expect this since it’s been done before. Ron said Rosie got her mother’s brains, so she should be smart. Right? But they told her not to let Scorpius beat her, so how about making Scorpius smart too? I’m sure all this has been said and done before too. I also started out by making Albus somewhat meek and hesitant. Those are things that “should” be done, according to my strange logic, so that I don’t develop people who are “out-of-character”.
A character doesn’t stay the same forever though, especially when you’re dealing with an 11-year-old. That’s just the first impression. People change, they develop. I used those as a base and gave them a twist. Rose is smart, but she’s older than her mother, loves flying, mostly pretends to follow the rules but has few (or no) second thoughts about breaking them. She’s a powerful character, inspiring fear ON PURPOSE to make sure she doesn’t get bullied in a hostile environment.
Scorpius is smart but he’s better when it comes to theory and potionmaking rather than spellcasting. He’s trapped in his family’s expectations of a “Malfoy” but he also has those ideas about equality slowly growing in his mind. Albus gets more confident at school, where he learns things he’s good at. James gets in trouble from day one, so he has some life-threatening situations to deal with and they keep him from being the easy-going prankster he wants to be. I’m not sure if readers expect that. Perhaps they do. But labels aren’t nice. A character isn’t just smart or just a troublemaker, or anything else. Characters have levels. Hopefully, readers won’t figure all of the levels at once, so that they can be surprised further along ;)
5.Which character are you most fond of, or have a soft spot for?
A. Hmmm, not quite sure. When I started writing the story, I wasn’t alone. It was written by me and another 3 authors, good pals whose writing styles I loved. Each of us picked a different POV, which is why the story shifts from Albus to Rose and Scorpius and James between chapters. Past the 4th chapter I kept writing on my own, but until then I had only Albus’s POV. The rest of them were initially developed by my friends, therefore I tried showing Rose, Scorpius, and James in the light they had shed. Perhaps Albus has a little bit more of me in him because of that? But the character I truly adore is Lily Luna. I can’t wait until she’s old enough to go to Hogwarts so that I can show more of her.
Q. Is your story different from any other fics?
A. I can’t say. I haven’t read that many next-gen fics and the ones I did were… eh… well, they were abandoned after a while and they were mostly listing “slice-of-life” kind of situations. So this answer is going to be even more subjective than what I’ve said so far. The most blatant difference I can see is that I have a new villain in the story. He’s not Voldemort reincarnated, not Voldemort’s secret child, not Voldemort who didn’t really die AGAIN. He’s a new person with strange motives it took me lots and lots of brainstorming to figure out. He’s working in the shadows, plotting, setting his plan in motion. James is caught in between all along, but he can’t ask for help, not in his current situation. Everyone is disoriented by the way Timothy (the villain) has turned things upside down, and they don’t even realize it’s him – or anyone in general – that’s done anything strange at the moment.
I am well aware of the fact that I am following plenty of cliches. !Spoilers ahead! I know Albus and Rose and Scorpius got sorted into Slytherin. I’ve been intending to explain this all along and it will happen later in the story. Personally, I think they’re more of Ravenclaw material *cough cough* Not Slytherin *cough* I’ll leave it at that for now ;)
Also, I got some professors to retire. Did anyone ever consider most of those people taught the first generation, the second and fought in two wizarding wars? They NEED to take some time off. It’s not like I wouldn’t love to use the professors who were already perfectly developed by Mrs. Rowling, but it didn’t feel very logical. Since I got in the trouble of doing that, I tried giving a more… multicultural twist to the new staff, including the headmistress. This will lead to student exchange programs and other stuff that will probably be pretty fun to write about (and hopefully will be pretty original). Especially with all of the new school information released on Pottermore last year, I have even more canon facts to work with (I wanted to do this since before Rowling mentioned those, so when she did I was ecstatic).
Q. Do you feel as if the differences you’ve made was a daring decision that paid off? Especially regarding James Potter as the main character of this and the whole multiple points of views.
A. Yes, I think it has paid off. The story needs a plot to keep the readers hooked, not just to show how smoothly and awesomely the next generation excelled during their Hogwarts years. Children will be children and they’ll mess up multiple times. James is actually the perfect example of that. He’s not a model student, but he’s not stupid either. He’s a smart kid with a mindset on things totally unrelated to his studies. He’ll get in trouble along the way and he’ll have to accept the consequences.
The multiple points of views are kind of the remains of the original co-authored story. I switched the story to 3rd person and only left them there to indicate whom each chapter focuses on. I love juggling with four characters instead of just one though because each of them can have their own personal drama every now and then, or separate friends and stuff. I hope it gives the readers more insight into each character’s personal thoughts and personalities and breaks the monotony.
I should probably mention that the story’s title is also a little deceiving. I liked Rowling’s titling pattern, where she said: Harry Potter and … (something important for each book’s plot), so I wanted to have my titles along the same lines. All four of the kids are equally important to the plot, it’s just that James gets in the gravest situations, so his name goes first. “The New Marauders” encases perfectly Albus, Rose, and Scorpius so I let it so :) (!Another spoiler ahead! The New Marauders is due to the fact they’re trying to become animagi like the original Marauders).
Q. How does it feel to have such a wide universe to play around with? A.
Wonderful. I LOVE playing around in another person's playground and the Harry Potter universe is so vast! There's an endless supply of pre-existing characters to pick from and there's plenty of room to create more when you need them. Especially since James Potter and the New Marauders is a next-gen fic, the freedom I get is tenfold one of the people writing about the first or second generations.
It's still a bit of a pain because there are a lot of things to take into consideration: We're in 2017 when Albus, Rose, and Scorpius go to school. 2017? Wait, it's 2017 just NOW, since this January! So everyone writing next gen fics so far might not have even considered what would be accurate or at least expected of the Muggle and/or the Wizarding world in 2017. As said, some professors need to leave the school. New students need to come. A whole new student body, consisting of 4 different houses and 7 different years! I have an excel file where I have all of the new characters' information written down to keep track of all the kids I've made. There's no other way, or things get super messy. And those kids (and professors) need to be well-developed or readers will get confused or bored pretty soon.
 love digging up canon details of the next gen that Rowling has shared and I'm obviously using them. (I should say I don't consider the Cursed Child completely canon so I used only what I liked from this one). The kids of the next gen mentioned by JK exist in my story and some of them are important and some are not. For example Lorcan and Lysander Scamander, the kids of Luna and Newt's grandson? Of course, they've gotta exist. Same goes for many other children. And also if JK has said what became of certain 2nd generation characters (eg: Ginny's career as a Quidditch player and then a sports reporter) I stick to this information. But there also need to be some originals, because unless the characters from the books multiply like bunnies, we can't have enough students for all of Hogwarts by just using their kids. In general, I have a love-hate relationship with these kinds of things. I love developing, but often get lost in it, or feel like I need to straighten out details and hold back from writing because of that. It's a toughie if you want to be accurate at least.
Q.. Choose a song that's the theme song of your whole fic. A. Rock Paper Scissors by Katzenjammer
Q. Would you say that your writing has improved during this duration you've been writing this fic?
A. Yep, most probably it has. As I already said, I conceived the idea when I was pretty younger and my English skills were very very undeveloped yet. There have been tremendous changes since the first chapters, although they might not be so obvious anymore because the first chapters have been heavily re-edited since I got back to the story last summer.
10. Last but not least, what advice would you have for fic writers wanting to write a Next Gen story? Writing Next Gen stories is a great idea. There can be a million stories that look nothing like each other, so they're one of the awesomest categories you can pick, especially if you get discouraged when you see a story with a similar plot to yours. But there are some things I'd keep in mind if I were you: The timeline. Albus, Rose and Scorpius go to Hogwarts in 2017. What has changed until then in the world? Has perhaps the development of the technology affected wizards? Has it not? The plot. Why are you writing? Is there a kind of situation your characters will deal with or are they just studying witchcraft and wizardry in Hogwarts, making friends and excelling (or failing) in their studies? The romance. Oh dear lord, please pay attention to this! The kids are 11 when they go to school, PLEASE, it makes NO sense for them to have anything stronger than a childish crush before year 3! And also… You can develop dozens of convincing OCs, so don't have everyone pair up with their relatives (one or two cliché pairings are ok, like ScorpiusxRose or LilyxScorpius or something, but that's IT). The sorting of the Next Gen. Anything is possible, as long as you explain it properly. Albus can be Hufflepuff if that's where you want him and Scorpius can be Gryffindor or whatever. There's no right or wrong. Just give your readers a good reason for it ;)
Bite Sized Books // Three Different Books Dealing With A Similar Theme
Tumblr media
I have such a review backlog so please be prepared for more bite sized reviews to come. I’m going to review three books which have a shooting as a central part of the storyline. They’re pretty different books but you’ll be able to see that from my reviews. I didn’t originally intend to review them all together but that thought how could I not?
Aftermath – Kelley Armstrong
Published: 5th April 2018 Source: Library Genre: Contemporary, Mystery, Thriller, Young Adult My Rating:
Three years after losing her brother Luka in a school shooting, Skye Gilchrist is moving home. But there's no sympathy for Skye and her family because Luka wasn't a victim; he was a shooter.
Jesse Mandal knows all too well that the scars of the past don't heal easily. The shooting cost Jesse his brother and his best friend--Skye.
Ripped apart by tragedy, Jesse and Skye can't resist reopening the mysteries of their past. But old wounds hide darker secrets. And the closer Skye and Jesse get to the truth of what happened that day, the closer they get to a new killer.
I've long claimed Kelley Armstrong as a favourite author (for at least a year or two when I discovered her books anyway). She has written so many good books series so when I saw this YA book being released I knew I wanted to read it. Even better, my library went and got a copy in so I could read it! I admit, I was wary and the reason I went to the library was because I had heard mixed reviews from folks when it came to her YA books. Considering I claim many of her books as favourites of mine that concerned me because how could she write lacklustre YA books when those marketed as adult ones were so good?
This book deals with the aftermath of a school shooting (it’s in the name guys) and rather than looking at the victims or the perpetrators this one focuses more on the unintended victim of Skye, whose brother, Luka, was one of the shooters and Jesse, Skye’s best friend and who also loses his brother from the shooting. Skye left town after the events and had no plans to return where her surname is synonymous with tragedy and where she lost a brother she loved. And she certainly didn’t want to return and face her former best friend, Jesse, now when she feels her own guilt over what happened to his family.
The book doesn’t wholly focus upon the shooting, though, although it does show how Skye feels her own sense of blame, but also on the misplaced blame others attribute to her because of her brother's actions. This book is more about the mystery of who is terrorising Skye with images and recordings of the shooting. Who is pushing her to look deeper into the shooting and why are they doing it? She doesn’t want to look at the moment her brother became a monster because that is never who he was to her and why should she have to hate him so utterly when she knew there was good to him?
I admit, I enjoyed the mystery aspect but it wasn’t as surprising as some of the mysteries Armstrong has written before. This may be due to it being a standalone book whilst I am used to her writing longer series where various mysteries are developed over several books with small hints dropped throughout. I also admit that the way the mystery was developed and everything was a little weird. I felt like there had to be a suspension of disbelief occurring and maybe that’s because it was elaborate for teenagers… but then teenagers are way smarter than we give them credit for.
I liked the book but it was flawed. I don't know if that's partly because it's a single book as opposed to a series like I'm used to from Armstrong or maybe it's the continued effect of the slump I was in. Something stopped me from loving the book, but it was a good enjoyable book and I’m glad I read it.
Shelter in Place – Nora Roberts
Published: 29th May 2018
Source: Publisher
Genre: Romance, Contemporary, Thriller
My Rating:
From #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts comes Shelter in Place—a powerful tale of heart, heroism . . . and propulsive suspense.
It was a typical evening at a mall outside Portland, Maine. Three teenage friends waited for the movie to start. A boy flirted with the girl selling sunglasses. Mothers and children shopped together, and the manager at video game store tended to customers. Then the shooters arrived.
The chaos and carnage lasted only eight minutes before the killers were taken down. But for those who lived through it, the effects would last forever. In the years that followed, one would dedicate himself to a law enforcement career. Another would close herself off, trying to bury the memory of huddling in a ladies' room, helplessly clutching her cell phone--until she finally found a way to pour her emotions into her art.
But one person wasn't satisfied with the shockingly high death toll at the DownEast Mall. And as the survivors slowly heal, find shelter, and rebuild, they will discover that another conspirator is lying in wait--and this time, there might be nowhere safe to hide.
I received this book for free from the publisher in exchange for an honest review. This in no way affected my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
This wasn’t my first Nora Roberts book and from the few I’ve read I knew what to expect. Some angst, a lot of good romance, and an interesting story. I was excited about it because it dealt with something different for me and this book began well. The book focuses on two main characters, Simone and Reed. Both were unfortunate to be at a shopping mall when shooters entered and starting opening fire. Both were there for different reasons, Simone was upset over a break from a boy who didn’t deserve her attention so was at the mall cinema with friends to cheer her up. Reed is working waiting tables. Neither expects what the day will bring and how this will shape their future.
The shooting is described in the opening pages of the book and I really think Roberts dealt with the panic and the trauma of the event and the aftermath of the event so very well. and She was sensitive to something which many will have thoughts about, especially with gun control being a key issue in the US right now. I honestly had a lot of respect for how it was written, I felt the terror and the confusion and then the guilt afterwards and the grief and the utter confusion about what’s next. The event was disjointed and filled with confusion and it’s only as the book progresses you begin to get a clear picture of what happened. Like I said, it began well with every day becoming this shocking event. The way the shooting was written with it being quick and disjointed made sense and I had a lot of respect for the initial aftermath.
Then the book began jumping about a bit and rushing forward and it began to lose me.
This book was told with multiple POV which was fine. Once I'd connected to the key characters I was fine with that. But the multiple POV also had time passing at a rapid pace. I expected to see the immediate aftermath and people's reactions but instead, it kept bouncing forwards in time seeing major events in characters lives. It made sense to progress the story forward, and I understood that, but it also meant I grew distant from these characters as I saw these glimpses to their lives but didn’t understand why it was significant to see it. and I got used to that too seeing how even through large gaps of time the shooting still had an impact. I did feel like it was rushed though until Reed and Simone met. I get that was the big romance Roberts was building to but I could have skipped the middle events if that was the case because this book felt dragged out in places and rushed in others. Like Roberts was eager for us to see what was going in their lives and how they changed, but didn’t want to waste time with that and then it felt like the story stopped at their meeting and really dragged during their romance and by that point I was more interested in the mystery, stop telling me about their romance when I wanted to know the whodunnit of who was bumping off survivors!
Oh yeah, because that’s what the plot really needed to focus on. After the shooting which Reed and Simone survived people slowly moved forward with their lives. It wasn’t immediately obvious at first but slowly those who managed to survive the shooting at the mall and move forward started getting killed. It often wasn’t labelled as murder because the killer was skilled at hiding how they did it. Making each death seem like an accident or something, and it’s only as the killer gets sloppy people begin to suspect it’s not a tragic accident but something more.
I admit, you know who the killer is because you get told, but I was eager to learn how they would be discovered and stopped. So you’d think when you reach the big finale I’d have been excited… it sort of felt flat. It went on for a while and then you kept expecting it would end and the story dragged out some more. In fact, I began to skim read because I just stopped caring, I wanted the killer to be stopped and if it has happened 50 pages earlier that would have been awesome.
I know I’m grumbling, but I did enjoy the book in some ways. I just wish it had been shorter. My issues overshadowed the good parts which sucked.
The Ones Who Got Away (The Ones Who Got Away #1) – Roni Loren
Published: 2nd January 2018 Source: Purchased Genre: Contemporary, Romance My Rating:
It's been twelve years since tragedy struck the senior class of Long Acre High School. Only a few students survived that fateful night—a group the media dubbed The Ones Who Got Away.
Liv Arias thought she'd never return to Long Acre—until a documentary brings her and the other survivors back home. Suddenly her old flame, Finn Dorsey, is closer than ever, and their attraction is still white-hot. When a searing kiss reignites their passion, Liv realizes this rough-around-the-edges cop might be exactly what she needs…
Liv's words cut off as Finn got closer. The man approaching was nothing like the boy she'd known. The bulky football muscles had streamlined into a harder, leaner package and the look in his deep green eyes held no trace of boyish innocence.
This book was one I wanted to read because everyone was talking about it! I eventually gave in in April and purchased me a copy because I didn’t know what I wanted to read but this angsty sounding romance seemed like it could fit. I was in a massive reading slump and I needed something. Anything! Luckily, it helped kick start my reading a touch. Or at least I made it through when I thought the angst and drama would put me off.  As usual, all of my doubts about reading this book were wrong. I am always wrong, this is what I need to remember when I have bookish doubts.
This book focuses upon Liv and Finn who were both survivors of a school shooting which shocked a community (right, there’s a theme here guys) and they also have a messy past as the two hooked up a whole lot at school, up to and including the night of the shooting. A whole lot happens with the shooting and the survivors go forward with their lives.
Liv is so easy to like and connect with because she is just so nice. She tough and fun and flawed, and really who can’t relate to that? She survived that tragic event and whilst she, like anyone, intended to grasp hold of life and let nothing stop her she ends up being far more scarred by that tragedy than she let on. She was scared to live and risk really admit that she wasn’t happy with how things turned out or even say what she wanted in life. The documentary which brought everyone back to town after that shooting is actually the thing which helps her kick start her life again. Seeing the friends she gained from that tragedy helps her realise she needs to do more, and seeing Finn makes her realise she needs to go for what she wants a bit more.
Finn was more difficult for me to like. He was the romantic lead and he did grow on me, but he frustrated the hell out of me too. He was all about Liv living her best life and wanting the best for her. He pushed her to recognise her brilliance and talent and to stop putting herself down and giving into the haters who tried to tell her she was less than. But he never took his own damn advise! I wanted to shake him with his self sacrificing macho bullshit. I really did. Whilst Liv had big changes she embraced change quite well and was good about admitting what she wanted. I just wish Finn had been a bit quicker on the uptake but he got there in the end and I loved every moment Liv and Finn were together. They deserved that second chance to get it right.
This book wasn’t as angsty as I thought it might be but it was most definitely filled with good romance. I got sucked in and was so glad I read it (even if it took me a while). I was totally excited for the next book… but not because Rebecca did some things I wasn’t a fan of in this book. I’ll be reviewing that soon (I hope).
Have you read any of these books? What did you think? And do you ever find yourself inadvertently reading books with a similar focus?
The Man in the Pink Cape || 1
Author: Randombtsprincessa
Characters: Jin (Non Idol) x Reader (2nd POV)
Summary: Moving to South Korea did not seem like a dream to you but a certain young man and a masked vigilante may just brighten things up.
Tumblr media
It had all begun with 5 words; 5 unforgettable, permanent words that changed your life. From a happy blissful life filled with friends, family, happiness, you were moved to loneliness, getting lost more often than not and hardly ever coming out of your apartment.
“You are going to Korea.” Your father said firmly, holding the letter from the high end college that had offered you a scholarship with an added internship at a prestigious publishing company.
It had been a once in a lifetime thing or so your father said. You weren’t so sure. You were smart, competent, and very good at what you did. You were sure you’d get more chances, better chances if you tried but your father wouldn’t hear it.
Of course, the letter of acceptance came conditionally. You’d get the perfect interning environment with the perfect job after 4 years with a nice cozy apartment you had to share with another student who was as smart as you and got the same deal. Perfect environment…? Hah, you didn’t even know the language.
Now you stared up at the apartment complex that you were supposed to stay in. It was five stories high and sprawling, meaning the apartment had to be big. You sighed at that. More space only meant more loneliness, psychologically speaking. Maybe your roommate might be of some help.
Tumblr media
She wasn’t of any help. Dura was bespectacled, kept herself by completely locking the door and only stirred out when she needed to eat. Since the apartment was big, both bedrooms had their separate bathrooms. With a living room, kitchen, pantry and dining space joined it made your apartment small enough to be cozy but big enough that you could give her space.
She didn’t have a social life even when she’d lived here for all her life and while you managed to keep your studies and your friends balanced, she had a book glued to her face all the time.
She only spoke in telegraphic sentences and you were going absolutely crazy.
Tumblr media
A month passed by with difficulty. You were still learning the language with rare help from Duri, you walked to campus and back, taking at least an hour to get home while trying to learn the routes but often you would take a turning with no rounds and you would end up getting lost. During those days you would have to ask strangers for help in broken Korean.
If they were sharp enough to realize you were clearly a foreigner and they knew English, you got home without a fuss but more times they would stare at you in blatant disgust and mutter something too low for you to realize and walk off.
The older people were kinder, the ones who looked below 40, you learned to avoid.
Tumblr media
“Miss (Y/L/N), sueob kkeutnago meomul su issgess Ni?” Your teacher said while putting her papers in the briefcase and you looked at her uneasily. Your Korean had only improved marginally but you understood her. It was strange that it took you so much effort to learn Korean. Maybe, it was your subconscious telling you that you didn’t want to be here.
“Yes, ma’am,” you said when you approached her.
She looked up at you with piercing almond eyes, her whitish skin glowing under the fluorescent lights as she studied you. She had a surname most native student found hard to pronounce but you knew it meant the color purple so you just called her Bora.
“Are you having trouble with the language yet?” she asked.
You opened your mouth but stopped, looking down then up at her slowly.
She just shook her head.
“Miss (Y/L/N), I’m not going to put you in trouble for not knowing Korean. You needn’t be so jumpy. I just want to know if you’re comfortable with the course since the literature in its original form is Hangul. You pass with decent marks with studying the English translations but if you were to understand Hangul you could do much better.” She said.
“I know, ma’am,” you said with a bowed head.
“This subject is not going to have much of an effect on your scholarship, of course. You are a brilliant student, one of the best this college has seen and you’re not even Korean. I must say, your management assignment has been the talk of the teacher’s common room for weeks now. Cheer up, (Y/N) and go home. I just wanted to know how you felt in this city. Please, this place has more to offer, I promise.” She gave you a kind smile before sliding the case off her desk and walking to the door.
She opened it and you hurried past it, not having the courage to look back into the face of a teacher who just became your absolute favorite.
You waited for a bit outside the class building, pondering on the words of Bora.
She had been right of course.
You were brilliant.
You had potential to get a scholarship literally anywhere in the planet. There was no reason why you had to limit yourself to one place.
Of course, that was the complete opposite of what your father had told you. He was the type of man who grew roots in one place and never left it. What was fate doing, playing such a cruel trick on you? It had given you a tree of a father and it had given your father a daughter made of dandelion. One gust of wind and off you would go where your mind and heart took you. Fate must be laughing at you right now.
However, you were never one to bow down to fate and you were not going to disappoint your father. Not just yet; you would finish your studies, try for better prospects while doing the internship and when gold struck you would take the first job out of Seoul.
The first thing you did was to go to the library just off a few streets of the campus. It was enormous, stocked with books on all and any subject you could think of.
With the librarian spouting off a bunch of English words at you, she led you through the cavernous hallways, towards the language section.
You grabbed as many books on Hangul as you could cram in your already well stuffed backpack and turned around to head to the front desk when you realized. You were lost.
Again
Of all the damnedest things to happen to you, you were lost in a library. Who gets lost in a library?
Oh right, you, that’s who.
It was a horrible situation. You could remember the entire Oxford Dictionary but when it came to directions you turned into a fish that had been left out in the sun to dry.
You walked around and met with another dead end. This was the third time. You could’ve asked for help yes, but it was a matter of pride. You were ok asking directions on the streets, but in a library, you expected to find your way around.
“Sillyehabnida?”
You yelped and backed up into a shelf, bumping your head and the back of your neck with a particularly hard rack and books toppled around you.
You looked up with stinging eyes to see a boy, looking guilt stricken and shocked, while holding the book you’d managed to knock over.
“Miahn,” he kept muttering as he pushed the books back in.
You studied him. He didn’t seem like a creep. On the contrary, he seemed decent, sweet even. He was cute. Ok, he was way more than cute. He had a structured face, soft, dark hair flopping over his forehead, big doe eyes, and plump lips paired with a long nose. He was gorgeous.
He finally turned to look at you, raising an eyebrow at your scrutiny.
“Ah, foreigner, I see,” he said and you jumped again, blushing at your less than graceful reaction.
“I’m sorry; I could help but notice you looked lost. Do you need help finding the front desk?” he asked kindly. You stared at him in shock. He wasn’t old; he looked to be about your age with a backpack slung over his shoulder. He looked like the typical college kid. Why did he want to help you? Didn’t he have better things to do? Your experience with other students had clearly told you not to bother them but you were desperate to get home now.
“Yes, please,” You squeaked out and he smile a stunning smile before making a beckoning motion and walking off.
You obediently followed.
The stranger didn’t just take you to the front desk. He stood with you in the lane to get his own books checked out, waited for you and then walked you out of the library. You decided to walk straight home and not take any detours today. You’d had enough of being lost for a day.
“I’m sorry to bother you with my foolishness.” You said quickly, bowing as was the custom in Korea.
“No, no, it wasn’t a bother. You looked scared and I had to help. Please, don’t apologize.” He said, waving a hand.
His English was accented but it was perfectly toned and understandable, unlike the other students in your class who knew the language but not how to speak in it properly. They mostly talked like they were writing a science assignment. It was a nice change to talk with…
“I’m Jin.” He said.
“Oh, I’m (Y/N).” You said.
“Well, (Y/N) I have a group study to attend so I’ll take your leave but…I will definitely see you around.” He bowed to me this time and turned around to walk off in the direction of the campus hostels.
Jin, huh?
You had to remember that name.
