best nest headcanon for salem’s ver of rut season hawks? say no more my dudes (nsfw at the end)

physical changes:

there’s a bunch of these in the fic so lets get into it fellas

so in general, from the brief articles i researched, birds can go through some physical changes during a mating season for like a number of reasons but also realism be damned it was fun

wings!! plenty of bird species have changes in their plumage come mating season. typically brighter colors and pattern changes. keigo’s don’t change from their crimson, just have patterns made by small, thin, nearly clear filaments. it gives them a lil iridescent effects. the patterns are symmetrical between the wings and probably add contrast that might change the shadow/highlights of the feathers?? maybe creating an illusion of his already huge wings looking bigger?? this is me spit balling

in addition, they are very sensitive. in general, keigo is just oversensitive as fuck. especially if he hasn’t n*tted in the past hour or so. dude gets pent up fast.

Literacy and Writing Style

I write semi-literate to advanced literate depending on the day and how much you give me to work with.

Third person, no asterisks (*), and use quotation marks (") when character talks.

When talking ooc, use //,\\,(), etc... to differentiate it from our rp.

No shortforms like bc, ofc, rn, wyd, etc... please write the full words. I wont be on your a$$ about grammar though. As long as i can read it idc.

Preferences

I'm most comfortable with bxg and sometimes gxg.

If bxg, i prefer the female role.

In terms of genre preferences, i have no genre preferences. But i am a sucker for fantasy and historics...

When deciding a plot, i'd rather have a vague/general idea and then brainstorm the details together.

I really enjoy a good slow burn romance.

Im too chatty for my own good, istg i never shut up. God must have forgotten to add the "stfu and sit down" button to me. So i like talking ooc, a LOT! :) introverts, you have been warned.

Expectations

I put a lot of effort into my oc's. Arguably too much, as i fixate over unimportant details for hours. I blame my ADHD hyper fixation. Anywho, i expect you to put the same amount of love and effort into your characters as i do.

I'm fine with originally drawn, cartoon/anime, or real faceclaims. But if it is not an original character, i'd like to know the faceclaims name. If its an originally drawn character, it has to be decent. That may sound picky, but i cant take it seriously if its poorly done art... not to sound pretentious.

For cartoon faceclaims, it has to be semi-realistic/realistic.

Our oc's gotta have the same kind of faceclaim. Example: if my oc's faceclaim is anime and yours is real, thats just weird for me. Our ocs would both have to be either anime or real.

Response lengths expected to be 100 words to 300 words. 100 is like, you can't think of anything. 300 is standard. You can go over this wordcount, by all means! Get them creative juices flowing!!!

If youre gonna be gone for an extended period of time plz dont allow me to think youve become amish or faked your death to start fresh in France or something. Gimmie a heads up.

Plz be comfortable to discuss your boundaries and things you'd like to try out in our roleplays!

1. No it isn’t doing a good job of reflecting life because life has consequences. The exaggeration in drama doesn’t mean the arc shouldn’t be there. Almost always things that aren’t heavy with the message or meant to be sobering in a deep way are COMPELLING. The realism is the basis for art because we are human. That’s why it is imperative to be responsible as a filmmaker and artist and underline the deepness of creepiness if that’s what they want. If they want to relay that rape sometimes ok and psychos are crazy so they get boy (??!?!?!? BITCH?) then they achieved it with no innovative information. 2. This is the issue with these shows. No one is saying that fucked up shit cannot be shown. There’s a film about a woman who is raped and she falls in love with her rapist (because he was masked but i think we find out later that she knows. Binoche is in it.) I have no desire for that film—i think it’s by a man and i extra dont care—but I hear it’s sort of powerful for many. I heard it was a good film. But the act itself is always eschewed and the conflict comes from how fucking ridiculous it is especially finding out that she knows. The power imbalance adn the possibility. They may not have handled it in a way I would have cared for but it was there.

There’s simply no imagination because these people do not care that much and aren’t great writers and filmmakers because they simply do not have to be. Sorry.

The industry doesn’t rely on the best they rely on efficiency (this is everywhere.) You can tell by the camera angles, the editing, the camera itself (idk if it is multicam but the flatness is typical soap flatness without the glowboxes to soften their faces.) Simple constant lighting. Now the surroundings are mostly beautiful. But even to some of the costumes. And those edits are abysmal, some of that camera work.

So with all that said even with the couple I extremely enjoy I see its (H4) faults. Add into that a lazily thrown together “shocking” love and if they are trying to get us to feel a type of way about its sexiness they fail. This is why movies like 50sog, 365 days, etc aren’t enjoyable to people because it’s fucking strange situations that they dont want to entangle or make enjoyable to viewers across the board. They know what people will take. It’s just that bitch what are we here for if even the sexiness isn’t there for ur stupid story.

At least with that teenager and 30 yr old man in MODC (which i do not love but i like them in theory if it wasnt totally repulsive to me and also if it was developed in a way that was good TO ME) they had their, er, “sex appeal” i talk about this as well the main couple in MODC to me, visually, was a miss. Not bc whatshisface was small and stuff but bc he was so sickly and they needed that to propel the story but it was just not appealing given how the story progressed. A missed opportunity in tying the two together besides making him look waif-y and sickly only to have the “did ur mom die in a car crash? No, cancer” type of move in not another teen movie. fandoms have a very warped sense of harrassment and discourse.

Most fandoms have harassers who are “protecting” the cast and crew who don’t need their protection (or maybe the crew does since they probably dont get paid well but why the fuck would anyone care about that lol) but very few have the people who have concerns or massive critique about the show are not going to be “bullying.”

If people are saying “if you like xyz, u suck” then sure it may suck for you to see but who fucking cares. Either talk to the person or don’t be friends with them. They know stupid stories like this are scandalous and they don’t give a shit in how to present them.

Antiblackness

Antiblackness is a thing. It permeates everywhere. It permeates in this genre and it permeates in fandom. Get it the fuck together. Also do not conflate cultural relativism with being repsectful. They are not barbarians, they are smart human beings either making work or deciding to. We all have diff cultures but we have fucking sense in what is respectful and not. And if we don’t we fucking learn. You cannot excuse things and say “oh culture” when you have 0 idea of that culture or actual people who are radical etc and are fighting against it. Additionally the word westerner is an ignorant term when referring to people in the US or UK who are black. Because we are not. We extend sympathy to other groups and empathy since we know so there is no inherent power imbalance between a black viewer and their subject. Don’t suggest that because it’s wrong and ahistorical and contextless.

FIRST the fallacy of representation as freedom makes people fucking complacent, individualistic, and doesn’t let them think critically. Consumption and discourse around consumption is not helping material conditions of the marginalized communities in your home, the black ones who are ignored, those intersectionalized in these communities. Groups talk about art and what it means for them outside of just what we see and because we also don’t have access to a bunch of Thai reviews or what movements or going on we are less likely to know if we don’t FUCKING SEARCH for it. Because art is constant...which leads me to....

Representation is difficult. It matters and it doesn’t.

Tthese shows are not meant to overturn the LGBTQ+ community.

There are queer filmmakers and artists in these countries. Deep illustrious film careers or even TV that is moving and deliberate. We can even see it with the dude from “your name engraved” in their short series he was in beforehand. BL is no wa pejorative because it is simply not “qu**r” storytelling whatever that means. But know it has always existed everywhere and there are also out artists or radical artists in all these countries who do no respect mediums that are cash-grabs and poorly made.

ex: As much as “Like in the Movies” sort of isnt for me and is a bit hamfisted you can tell how much love goes into that. Love of the characters, acting, and message. Yes it’s cringey to see some of the lines (like very tbh subtlety wasnt exactly their strong suit) and yea naming them after lenin and marx is just 0ihgoaudgijposkagjihou BUT GUESS WHAT? THEY FUCKING DID IT. THEY TRIED. And class was a large component as well bc u cant fuckin ignore it. The show is aware of the machinations in its world as a show but also in the philippines and for a fuckin reason. And duatarte? These countries in SEA or even SA do not have as big budget for even mainstream dramas—though things are changing and that’s bc REVENUE like revenue from kpop is fucking huge for SK and again so much about that is bc of what happened in their history from japanese imperialism to WWII to the US—so for “queer” stuff it is sort of now important to make that an export and it sure is one. Not only globally or to the west but a lot of these places make their money within asia (duh!) outside of their countries. OBVIOUSLY. so BL is a way to output and gain money. The thing is, it doesnt seem to be put back into the industry at all. For people in all these countries to make works that aren’t for mainstream or wont reach as many people there’s a difference between trying and just shoving shit in your face and going here it’s gay you like it right? But dont antagonize the inherent patriarchal nature of BL.

Another thing: did you guys know thailand was never colonized? You should look it up. There’s little hints of things in ITSAY to represent french influence still. Isnt that fascinating? Find out why. It’s certainly interesting that the representation, though damaging and dubious many times and also incorrect like any media, is huge in asia and this isnt a commodity here (the US) exactly. A lot of that has to do with colonial ideas of gender of which I am sure. But listen………lmao

Being dictated by others and the state and who will give you money. No longer an effort of a cast and crew who want to convey things. But google [any country] independent cinema, radical cinema, queer radical cinema, or even retrospectives on the cinema and rethinking what is queer and radical in film. What if we took that, diluted it, got rid of the creators who put themselves through all the work, ignroe al the nuances and do……………….two actors who are conventionally attractive with no chemistry making out.

It’s the same here lets say daniel kaluuya winning the oscar for the film about the BPP. I heard it was okay and not too offensive but it still isnt’ enough. It still isn’t like hwood isn’t trash, nnati black, misogynistic towards BW and women, and all that other shit. It was pushy but it can’t be enough where we are. Black KKKlansmen i think won an oscar, by circumstance i fuckin hate these award shows they mean nothing, and i like the film a lot but he has his misogynoir still resting in his films even if it is poignant. And it was a film that honestly wasn’t really made for black people. And should all art be a response to direct trauma or trying to make ourselves palatable when we’re just human?

Considering a lot of these actors are rich and then just dip that’s another problem. Mainstream isn’t what sustains marginalized art ever. It doesn’t change in the vast ways we think it does. What changes is the people of these groups pushing, fighting, forcing and then capitalism trying to make it work under capitalism. It will not. It cannot.

This is why artists and labels often don’t mix or you see people like Sonic Youth doing whatever they want and pissing off their label but making them give them money. Same with Nirvana. Vince Staples. The thing is they can fight and make good shit but what capitalism helps people….not care? They don’t respect the audience? We’re getting those returns on poor executed product placement, lighting, editing, framing, fucking acting. And you surewon’t see mixed black asians in these shows. WHY R U is the oNLY one i have seen it in and he just disappears (but that was pretty cool.) so who the fuck is this representing? And before you start: asian countries are not homogenous the way we believe them to be. There are marginalized communities outside of even mixed people that are harmed. So you can skrrt cause on that one: you’re wrong buddy. But it gives us the IDEA of a paradise which is what they NEED.With representation and visibility comes consequence and responsibility as artists. What it allows them to do is coast and not think complexly because why should they; it’s mostly the fantasies of some older woman who probably has money and much less interaction with the world. It’s bonkers. And what that allows even further is for them to say YOU ARE THE THING THAT YOU CONSUME and the THING THAT YOU CONSUME IS YOURS. It is not, it is not your identity, form a close bond but figure it the fuck out. Especially for adults who are hellbent on twisting their minds into pretzels and can’t acknowledge what’s just laziness in art and not giving a fucking shit. Truly.

There’s damage that has been done from Parasite as he was supported by CJE&M and the bullshit obsession america had and eveyrone’s poor interpretation of it if they are rich. BJH is a socialist and he is a filmmaker. He has made films that are outstanding and cost a lot of money. But now a fear for indie filmmakers is just not being able to raise that much or have that much attention. Getting funding that helps them instead of expecting the Next Big Thing that is a fad because capitalism is trash. Yes this funneling of money is absolutely harmful to us artists. Even buying in is strategic. Additionally, that film is probs one of the most radical films to have that wide release and accolade (unlike “Sorry to Bother You” which i have a lot of thoughts about. One being that asian exports are acceptable but black ones are not. This is an overall art critique and global media critique. Blackness is removed, not respected.) However, filmmaking isn’t green, it can’t be socialist, and it’s a lot of work. They used tons and tons and TONS of water to do a huge beautiful feat but we still know there is a cost. We have to figure that out because it shouldn’t be. It doesn’t go back into the crew’s pockets the way it should and the work becomes that of the director’s and actors solely. It’s fucking hard. We have to do our part but it doesn’t mean we are doing it perfectly. We just have to try to do better. So does BJH cos he needs to not be a misogynist but anyways i digress.

additionally and this is something some users fail to understand: people in the media sphere generally have fucking money. I went to film school that was international with super fucking rich kids. Taiwanese kids, kids from south asia, china, thailand. They had money. No not upper middle class money, not “rich” money, not some paltry 1m that’s chump change. Fucking money. Fucking RICH-RICH. MILLIONAIRES. BILLIONAIRES. WHICH IS DISGUSTING MIGHT I ADD. The domestic people didn’t have the money for school (in the UK) and i am in a massive amount of debt like every other black student that went there. You do not understand how much money is needed to survive so people who turn to these crew positions even casting etc need this fucking money usually. OKAY. A lot of the people that do well in these dumb shows or even on a larger scale HAVE MONEY. The reason these industries are small and struggling is because of lack of people and lack of resources to independent shit because oh gee it takes money to make things.

Why should I try? Well you don’t have to really if you have money or a name. Yet...

We can tell when like those Tik Tok shows or DCOMs dont give a shit (anymore.) You know how frustrated we get when content for young people is garbage? Well, see, BL is literally that under that system. Occasionally we will get something good now but there is virtually no need in any sector in the world at this point to truly figure out how to make it better and what to do to enhance artistic literacy, outreach, teaching people new things, getting people from these communities there and having true realistic says. Art and culture is IMPERATIVE TO WORLD LIBERATION but not when it is so stiffly trying to bend to capital’s idea of progressiveness. No. Neoliberalism. No.

That’s why in a way ITSAY is a huge feat; it takes from films etc and they clearly had money (the actors rae rich too which….lmaooooo j’aime pas) but it was a respected fucking script, acting was important, blocking, framing. There’s very little to critique as a visual medium for that because I understand what they are trying to do, their market is going to be mostly young girls, but they RESPECT THE FUCKING AUDIENCE. And guess what guys? You can make money from it!!!! WOAH! Since that may be the only goal which is disgusting and repulsive.

HOWEVER AND THIS IS WHAT IS SAD: itsay is an ex of a great show however knowing the actors backgrounds and the pseudo trouble it stirred when they weren’t supporting people protesting against the coup in the summer it really put a damper on my enjoyment. And this is how we can see that:

a) it’s honestly just a show and a good one but b) now what?

These kids (actors, who are like idk 19? 20?) are rich and not saying anything while countless actors, who were filming, did. Even tul who has $$$$ and the thing is the protesting against the coup legitimately attacks the rich. As it should. The protests going on were cries for help, against a dictatorship and fucking coup, asking people to get fucking help for covid, having kids be able to live. There’s a mini on VICE about this and it probably doesnt go too in depth but there’s a kid in there who talks about his friends getting into drugs and how he just wants to make music, have fun, skateboard. And it’s harrowing to see. This is a direct example of what these things do and don’t do. Yea we know a good show is here, we know growing up and slice of life, we know this is a bit of escapism and idealism but the idealism is reflected in the way these actors also choose to live their lives. So what progress? To who? For who? How is this helping me? What purpose does it serve? I say ITSAY serves its purpose as a piece and a glimpse into possibility of growing up but i do not say it antagonizes a broader issue that needs to be relevant in some sense but simply is not. It’s very singleminded and, well, it’s sort of like “besides my sexuality, what do i have to worry about?” But for real humans like....a lot. I do not respect their decision at all.

Why can’t we do our jobs and make something decent and respect our audience? No time, gotta make that sweet sweet sweet cash baybee. Look how progressive we are! Don’t look at history and material conditions. Thanks in advance, management.

History 4 does not have that respect. Many of these shows do not. Sometimes we hit good, sometimes we don’t. But in the end we cannot settle. And I won’t. If I am critiquing something I will not be shy and if I am meant to enjoy something as escapism then these shows NEED to highlight that and it’s rare sometimes (the best twins is a good reminder like that show is bad but man do i Brain Empty when i turn it on and i like that and there’s not much in it that makes me want to kill myself from annoyance but there are transphobic jokes i dont love however the whole show is a comedy about this dude’s crazy homophobic sister and she is constantly positioned as wrong and they talk about the aforementioned trans women as the actor was in drag. Interesting that they can manage that, huh?)

Oh btw.....taiwan has a very complicated history but ignore all the bad stuff it’s good now you can kinda sorta get married and stuff. KMT? You know how i learned that? I care about human beings and read about it lmao. I am not Taiwanese and look at that. So now I have historical and DIALECTICAL~**~*~****~*~*~ context so i can judge it as an artist, a black woman from america, and from the knowledge i have to pick up on their history to see if this fits into a broader picture besides the micro-one of sexuality on an individualized level. And this is kinda where it comes full circle: these shows are not you, you are not them, they do not exist in a vacuum because nothing does. The failure to critique now means continuing on as it has and it will still do so. History and time are not linear in the sense we think it is. Someitmes things are better, sometimes things feel more austere. We are not living under liberation though and these shows are not going to do so. So they are not US nor are they for a nebulous “us” of which the groups are all fractured and have diff opinions anyway (my opinion as a black american is going to vary from an asian woman’s say and that could really clash and i do not feel solidarity with all those in every community i am for several reasons.)

Anyway my dissertation is that I ilke Muren and LiCheng a lot a lot and i like how cute they are and how truly dumb li cheng is. This is an example of mostly good writing, decent actors, nice chemistry, and sort of a calmness to them. And I super enjoy how Muren is pretty forward with LC in the sense that being together is like very important to truly be together. When he was like “no i didnt forget!” Or when LC asked him something in the office I forget it was 6 am and again i almost threw up and muren nodded and then LC leaned on him. Very cute. I want more of them tho i may have to skip that othre couple (the cameo the ones from MODC) but omfg the younger one HIS HAIR GREW SO MUCH HE LOOKS SO MATURE AND CUTE OMFGIJ0HUG9SAOGIJPKOAGJSIOHUAGIJP hahhaha the one good thing i will say about THEM.idk how old the actor is i figure he was young idk it makes me happy to see him he’s very cute. I hope he’s in something i can watch and not gag at. Is he hot? Who knows but he is a cutie!!

Anyway muren and lc have a good thing going it’s nice to watch ho\pe they dont fuck it up but im truly a sucker for some true finds 2 luvas i think some user on her\e was like i’m not a fan of friends ot lovers bc it doesn’t seem like they’re actually friends and maybe they were referring to this show idk. But it made me think and it was a very good observation. So i think they are friends and also luvrs <3

okay! so the pokemas legendary event: father or foe. I have things to say so I will say them. and if you don’t want spoilers, uhmmm don’t read this! okay thanks okay.

first of all, i like how ghetsis just. shows up. like he’s just there. that’s great, A+ Second of all, I know the point of that battle between N, Silver, Brendan and Norman was to showcase how strong Brendan and Norman’s father-son bond was. but it’s so fucking funny to me that they’re fighting against two legendary pokemon. and they’ve got a fucking slaking and a fucking uhh sceptile like. Ho-oh is fucking fire/flying, but Norman and Brendan won??? but whatever, moving on.

glad that they put silver in this. like even with the plot point later on with giovanni, i just like that silver is here. i like silver. i like his way of speaking. because in a world of pokemon protagonists that are naive and idealistic, silver’s realism and straightforwardness is very needed. so thanks silver, for being that bro.

anyway, I love N’s answer to Ghetsis’ proposition for them to be father-son again. He says he just needs time to think. That shows such maturity. And the fact that they put that alongside Nate’s very black and white (lol) way of thinking, is good. Nate is like “Ghetsis did some fucked up shit. get him outta here” but N has history with Ghetsis and is hesitant.

and y’know what, Nate is right honestly, because Ghetsis did some fucked up shit!! I know a lot of people have not played gen 5 but Ghetsis is a BITCH!!! He’s manipulative and abusive, he said some fucked up shit to N, he tried to fuck over unova TWICE, he’s not a good dude. And it’s interesting! bc in bw2, y’know, former team plasma members are trying to make up for their crimes from the first game. and they point out that all they can do is apologize and do better, like they can try and make up for what they did and do what they can to make things right. and that’s what some of them are doing. and they acknowledge that this doesn’t like erase people’s pain or make them entitled to forgiveness.

but on the other side of that, you have ghetsis, who is not at all interested in that shit. he doesn’t think he’s done anything wrong, he doesn’t want to change, fuck unova, fuck everything and everyone! So yeah! Nate is like FUCK GHETSIS and honestly, everyone should be like that but they weren’t there in unova so they get a pass.

and N is just hesitant. Because he sees that father-son bond and he wants that. he wants that connection. and think about how that resonates with so many people playing this game. like it fucking resonated with me! you want a bond with a family member that’s hurt you, and they come to you to try and make amends... and say it’s idealistic or naive or stupid, but there’s hope that it could work out this time.

ghetsis has manipulated and abused N in the past, and N knows this most of all, but he’s willing to move forward with their relationship if Ghetsis has truly changed. DAMN! that hits me hard. too many times we try and give people a second chance when they say they’ve changed, but it turns out they fucking haven’t and they hurt us all over again.

But I like that N takes the time to decide. He talks to Alder and gets his opinion, and I like that Alder is just honest as fuck about it. And N takes that into consideration, but still makes the choice himself, just like Silver advised him to. This is a choice he made after weighing his options and the outcomes.

And honestly, I was like... Ghetsis could go either way. They could keep him evil and have this be him trying to manipulate N again, OR they could pull a lusamine and have the story and the characters just forget about the abuse that he put N through and the chaos he put unova through. And I’m so happy to see that they kept him evil because HE IS evil and! He’s as fucking heartless as ever, being honest about how everyone is a tool to him.

That’s refreshing as fuck to me. After lusamine, i had no fucking hope for this game but DAMN let’s go, okay, Ghetsis staying evil? teaming up with giovanni? nice nice nice. love it.

But also, hold on, because Silver is a hero in this event. I loved hearing what he had to say, but this line that he had is so fucking important.

IM STILL IN SHOCK THAT THEY ACTUALLY SAID THIS LIKE??? idk i just wasn’t expecting it at all, and im SO GLAD they brought it up. Silver? Getting frustrated with Nate that he’s not trying to see things from N’s point of view? Nice. Very Nice. This is why I’m glad Silver’s here, because what other character would have the guts to say this? We need that blunt honesty a lot of the time. We need that straightforwardness to put some harsh truths out there.

I like that Nate stops and considers that now, they he apologizes and is like “I was thinking more about unova than about your feelings, N” and he APOLOGIZES!! LET’S GO!

There’s some good nuggets in this event, it’s so fucking GOOD.

It keeps getting better because with Alder reassuring N and offering advice, he shows that he’s more of a fucking.. father figure than Ghetsis will EVER be but he also just says that N’s grown and he’s got a good heart and N is so shocked...! He is still 100% suffering from what Ghetsis said/did to him before! because that trauma is still there! And he needs to be surrounded by people who really and truly care about him to support him now.

Okay but moving on, the Ghetsis and Giovanni team up was cool. I like how they kept summoning team break members out of nowhere?? fantastic. and of course giovanni was gonna backstab him. fucking. ghetsis you idiot, but anyway! N seeing that ghetsis is about to get his whole ass kicked and STILL stepping up to help him out?

Mm i have some mixed feelings about it, but N CAN talk to pokemon and he didn’t want anything to happen to Kyurem. And I’m glad that they put that in there and remembered that about N’s character because otherwise i’d be like “why would he help him, Ghetsis has revealed his true colors for like the third time there’s no reason to” but it also ties back into N just feeling sorry for this mother fucker and also just wanting a father figure.

but! after the battle, they leave. and Silver just glares at Giovanni and tells him to fuck off... this poor boy, but! we also have this comparison between silver KNOWING that his father will never change and that he’s not interested in changing, and now N coming to that conclusion with ghetsis. those two are not going to change. they don’t fucking care. they’re terrible people. and it’s a hard pill to swallow but silver’s already swallowed it. and now he’s helping N to get through what he’s already gone through.

so N just saved ghetsis’ ass and now they’re outside. And N says that he knows Ghetsis hasn’t changed, and if he causes trouble N will stop him. And Nate tells Ghetsis he hates him LOL and then is like why can’t you just fucking be a better person to N like for real.

and Ghetsis continues to be a sack of shit. and Nate gets upset and says something really touching, that N just wants a normal relationship with the man he calls his father. and Nate is real sensitive to this stuff, he wears his heart on his sleeve, y’know. but a lot of male pokemon protagonists are like that (gold, brendan i think?) but it’s just touching to have Nate be really invested. to have Nate and Silver both wanting to help N, and Nate is the more sensitive and idealistic of the two and Silver just adds that touch of realism. y’know, black and white?

but N is a bit of both, now. That’s what he gained on his journey, this understanding that problems aren’t so simple and that complexity is a part of life and that sometimes there isn’t a clear right answer. and sometimes things don’t go the way that you want, no matter how much you hope or wish for things to change.

and at the end... N understands that. He understands that while Ghetsis is a piece of shit and will ALWAYS be a piece of shit, he has people and pokemon around him and that’s all he needs. he doesn’t need a father. he’s just fine without one. Silver agrees, everyone fucking agrees. and it’s fucking touching. N’s got people in his life that care about him genuinely and that’s all he needs.

and that’s a real good message because first of all, Alder is right there and found family is abound, but also, it’s not pushing this fucking narrative that you should always, always forgive your family or the people who hurt you. sometimes, your family is shit! and you cut them out of your life for your own well being! many, many people have to do that. and instead of ignoring that every family isn’t the same and that people have shitty relationships with their families, this event is like “hey, everyone’s upbringing is different” and “if people who’ve hurt you aren’t going to sincerely apologize and make the effort to change, they aren’t worth your time” and “fuck ghetsis”

like those are good messages! and im mad because WHERE WAS THIS with the lusamine event??? lusamine abused both lily and gladion, but she’s okay?? she fucking almost drove the alola region into chaos but she’s forgiven?? no. i will never be about that. lily and gladion are both better off without her because i didn’t see an apology in sumo or in pokemas, the bitch just showed up and was like “okay!! we’re family!!” and even with the sumo endgame thing of lily taking lusamine to kanto to give her treatment, i need to SEE an apology and a genuine want to change

and you know what even if there is an apology? lily and gladion aren’t obligated to forgive her. it’s their choice, sure, but i think it was a choice forced onto them instead of it being something that they, as characters, seriously consider. and?? lusamine should be in jail. so.

like there’s no obligation for these kids to forgive their abusive parents. none at all. and N’s speech to ghetsis saying “i don’t think a true father-son relationship can happen between us so easily, but if you’ve had a true change of heart, show me through battle!” is so important because he wants to see for himself if there’s been a real change. N will decide AFTER the battle and after seeing ghetsis’ motivations if they can move forward.

and where was this with lily and gladion?? what did they ask or talk about with lusamine so that they know she’s being sincere?? and y’know what, where is the distrust?? especially for lily, because lusamine did some real fucked up shit!! it’s just not handled as well, and it could’ve been a great example of “kids need to get away from their abusive parents even if they promise change” because N made a choice and was hesitant but we didn’t get to see that development with gladion and lily. i know it’s pokemon, but i definitely think there’s a way they could’ve written them,, cutting lusamine out of their lives and it being like “okay, this is the best for both of us” because lusamine was a shit mother and also gladion and lily have found family in the selene, elio, hau and professor kukui and professor brunet SO.

but this event was pretty good and there were some very good moments in here. I’m glad ghetsis will stay evil and i’m glad they put silver in there as well, thanks. BUT WHERE WAS HILBERT????? WHHHHYYYYYY!!!!!

Growing Up With Karen

TW: Transphobia, Murder, Child Abuse

I know we all joke about Karen. She’s a bitch and dies as she should. Karen is definitely a hatable character. However, I strive to write with realism and portraying one character as pure evil is not realistic. If that’s your jam go nuts! I however, imagine the Doggers household working as follows.

Karen was a work from home sales woman and basically a stay at home mom. Her husband (I call him Charlie as he doesn't have a cannon name) was the outside worker of the family. I imagine he worked something like construction or as a handy man. Im not sure why, he just seems like he’d be good with a wrench.

Karen and Charlie met as teens. They were wildly different people back then as most are. Charlie was a bit more wild and took more risks. He was a good hearted guy from a humble background. Karen was from a wealthier family but resented them for trying to force her life to go the way they wanted. Her parents chose everything for her. She was sent to a private school, took the classes they chose, and was trained from a young age to be a musician like her mother and father were. They were even choosing who she would marry based on “proper breeding”. She was sick of it and just wanted to have some fun like other kids her age. So she went out partying and drinking behind her parents backs. It was at one of these parties she met Charlie. The rest is history.

Through time the two settled down and Karen cut contact with her family. Charlie calmed down a bit and became a quiet guy. Karen became much more like her parents as she gained stability. The problem came in when they had their first child John. His full name was Johnathan as was Karen’s insistence. That would foreshadow how she treated her children from then on. You see some victims of child abuse continue the cycle and unfortunately Karen was one of them. She saw her children the same way her parents had seen her, as property. A child was a thing a parent controlled and manipulated to be exactly what served them best. Charlie knew his wife was a bit stuck up and stubborn but had no idea the extent of how she was treating their children. She treated them, especially Doby as dolls she could manipulate. She had John wrapped around her finger from a young age Doby however was another story.

Karen thought Doby was what she had always wanted, a little girl. Even before he came out as trans they butted heads. Doby was always a wild and rebellious child. Karen had to fight to get him in a dress or to hold still for pictures. She’d scold him for playing in the mud but he didn't care. They were never particularly close. Doby didn't always hate Karen and had some good memories of his mother but by the time he came out both he and Charlie were done with her behavior.

Karen rejecting Doby’s coming out was Charlies wake up call that the woman he fell in love with was gone. He had been debating divorce anyway as the two were constantly fighting about money but was trying to stay together for the kids. This was his realization that the kids were better off if they divorced. John chose to go with Karen in the divorce but was manipulated enough by that point that it wasn't exactly his decision.

I thought of all this while contemplating Karen’s role. It’s unpopular sometimes to humanize characters like this. Character who act in a way as a revenge fantasy for the audience. As a trans person I have known people like Karen. Sometimes hitting transphobes with a bat is enticing. I won't deny that. However I think humanizing these characters is still important because it adds to the horror. Karen become a monster of a human being makes her more hatable to me and scarier how it all played out. Karen was abused, did the same to her children, and in the end one of those very children destroyed her. She became a monster and created a monster in turn.

Idk just my two cents.

(1/2?) Never not gonna take the opportunity to compliment one of my favourite writers (and people) to exist. 😘♥️ SO, Telli… what do I love about your writing, let me count the Everything. I swear on all that is holy, you have to be the only person on earth who could make me love Doug even for five minutes, which is a talent in and of itself lmao. Before I read TWD….. could not have possibly imagined a reality in which Doug and Carlos being friends would be super cute, actually. But here we are! I am forced to contend with this reality thanks to your powers of fix-it characterization. ;)

Anyway, now that I got that off my chest jkldjlakjlkgsd…. you knowwww I adore your Jaylos, but of course I’m going to tell you that a million more times anyway. Your Jaylos fluff is alwayssss gonna be at the top of my list when I’m seeking a comfort fic at 3 AM. I feel like your writing just exudes warmth, if that makes sense. And well, you are a warm person (very much so 💕), but it’s something I felt from your writing before we actually talked, so… hmm, I think maybe that’s just a part of you that slips into your work, since IME the essence of a person is always visible through their writing. It’s kind of difficult to articulate ‘cause it’s more *felt* than anything else, but… warm, yes. That’s how I’d describe it. 🥰

With regards to the more technical side of things, some characteristics of your writing that always impress me are, 1) how gracefully you handle a large cast of characters, as with TWD; you give Jaylos and Malvie the sense of importance they deserve without sacrificing the other dynamics and I really admire that because I *know* how hard it is to pull that off and you make it *look* so easy and feel so real and natural, which goes into, 2) which is that your writing is so immersive because literally everything is so realistic but not the sense of… Reality 2.0, if you will? Like…. actual reality can be boring sometimes, but you know how media realism never has a dull moment when it’s done well and idk, that’s just your writing for me… TWD feels like it could be an *actual* wedding event IRL, and that brings us to 3) which is that you render such powerful and believable emotions, it’s impossible not to feel invested in what the characters are experiencing. I really, REALLY appreciate that in writing because my attention deficit ass cannot cope with an emotionally dry narrative. I need to be able to lean all the way in to what the characters are feeling or I’m gonna get bored in 2 seconds and your writing neverrrr fails to give me that kind of an anchor.

Sul Sul! Your simblr is a huge inspiration for me and the biggest inspiration that I get from you are your builds. They are incredibly amazing and I just wonder if you have any tips for building such as the shell, landscaping, interior, etc! (sorry if you get asked this a lot) Have a great day!

sul sul!! thank you SO much!!! ♡ its honestly hard for me to come up with a house that i like, i usually restart 5-10 times before i end up with something i think will work out well :’-)

when i first start a build, i think mostly of the roof shape and of the floorplan, and this is the hardest step and what makes me rage quit :’-) what i do is that i start with a big box and then add smaller boxes for like windows or just to get the build less boring looking, (watch lilsimsie’s video on that she explains it better than me lol) and these smaller boxes will be the ones with the rocks wallpaper. i make sure they are not at the edges of the bigger box so that in the end, the roofs look all well together. its hard to explain but you can look at my builds and notice that, i think it will help to understand what im trying to explain :’-).

recently i’ve been placing columns on the corners of the exterior walls and tbh it makes a huge difference, especially for suburban houses. it makes the house look more realistic first but mostly “clean”, or well organized idk, its like the final touch :’-) i wish i started doing that sooner!!!

for the landscaping, i usually go for lots of plants bc i love green lol so i put hedges all around the build and find some spots where i’ll put lots of green. i think it also makes the house less boring looking. otherwise, i don’t overthink the landscape too much so i don’t have tips for that, i just try and do something “realistic” with a path leading to the entrance of the house and plants around it.

for the screenshots’ sake i put lots of trees around the build so that when i take indoor screenshots you can see some green through the windows :’-)

for the backyard, i imagine it as if i had a floorplan for it, so one space has one function. for example, the dining area with a bbq, then a space for kids to play, then the pool with lounge chairs...

before working on the floorplan of the house i place the stairs and just imagine the rest of the rooms around it

for the interior i try and reduce the rooms as much as possible, bc i find it harder to decorate big spaces and i usually get bored with them. so i base my floorplan on that, i imagine where i’ll put the kitchen, living room, master bedroom, etc. + i try and make sure each room works well with how i’ve placed the windows so basically how i’ve placed the smaller boxes.

also weird thing but putting lots of lights inside of a house helps me when i build the interior idk why it just makes my mind clearer and i can visualize how it will end up looking like, thats random

in terms of decoration i think putting a lot of clutter adds more realism to a build and you can easily imagine sims living there, and even imagine a backstory while decorating the bedrooms. so it goes with their skills, colors perhaps, posters on the walls...

to put more decorations on for example kitchen counters i use bb. move objects on

also when i finish building i go through every clutter decoration to see if i could put even more details around the house

and again for the screenshots’ sake i put colorful pieces of furniture and wall decorations as much as possible so that the screenies don’t look boring :’-)))

in the end you can notice that i always use the same couch, kitchen set, wallpapers, floors, beds... so i just go for the same interiors bc i use the same colors (blue, pink, yellow, green)

dimitri: INSECT GLAIVE. anyone who says any type of lance is wrong. he’s absolutely an insect glaive, both aesthetically & gameplay wise it just matches him more. (if we’re going mhgu rules, valor playstyle as well. maybe a bit influneced by the fact that i have a mh character Kind of based off of dimitri who plays valor IG, but i just think a playstyle where someone is building up power to go into a stronger mode Fits him) for specific weapon im limited to like, mostly mhw & mhgu weapons bc i am most familiar w those, but id say like... maybe the kirin insect glaive, or the zinogre insect glaive if world wasn’t so focused on realism and made it a bit more colorful, the tobi kadachi insect glaive or the royal march banner.

for his kinsect... maybe grancathar ? (im not going by stats or anything on these just looks. look at this bug.)

as for monsters i associate with him: TOTALLY the lion duo. lunastra because that is, quite literally, a blue lion, but also teostra bc he’s a docile monster until attacked and i like being able to stand next to him :)

also zinogre, but for more personal associations, not based off of much!

im also throwing magnamalo in there for no reasn other than i just. Really associate dimitri with large fuckin fanged wyverns. ALSO KAMU ORUGARON BUT THIS LIST IS GETTING TOO DAMN LONG

dedue: hammer! i am, not too familiar with the hammer weapon tree and i also already got distracted trying to assign very specific weapons to dimitri so im not gonna do that, but hammer. also the tonfa too if we’re going outside the normal default weapons. i can also see him playing hunting horn if he’s needed for support more than offense, since its basically Hammer but Also It Can Heal People

as for associated monster... maybe giaorugu or jade barroth? :}

felix: oh my god, longsword all the way. fuck. honestly you could give him any blade but the first two to come to mind are the azure star blade & the wyvern blade indigo (the first pic is the, entire azure star set bc its the best pic of the blade i can find)

for monster association i instantly think of fiercewater nargacuga! idk why i associate him w water stuff but... ALSO azure rathalos cause its small blue and Real fuckin angry

Something you love to see in smut.

variety! so, generally anyway - reading a scene that you haven’t read something like before is likely going to be more engaging. and i’m generally pro anything that moves away from like the cult of PinV sex (ive read that a lot ha ha, and also it’s just not representative of all sex, duh). but also within a scene - i guess motion and blocking that add realism, but also multiple sex acts and/or at least some decent foreplay.

and particularly for beth and rio, anything that engages with their competitive nonsense, obsession and power playing. roleplay!!

also just like descriptions that involve people’s whole bodies?

and pov characters who are overwhelmed and don’t necessarily strictly understand the physical mechanics of what’s happening (especially what they can’t see!) but are v into it.

What’s your least favourite part about posting?

Basically all of it, ha ha. I think it’s cos I’m normally itching for something to be ready before I post it and I’m still editing and changing stuff and really I should leave it a day and read over it again but it’s normally a Sunday by then and I’m just like waaah I don’t wanna I just want it to be done fuck it, and the last few things have all been looooong, and reading over a long thing again is much more of a Thing!!!! and by that point words have lost all meaning and I have zero perspective!!!!!

And so I’m always just like is this fucking terrible?! I have no idea any more. I MEAN I KNOW IT’S BETTER THAN IT STARTED SO THERE’S THAT I GUESS. IDK, FUCK IT POST IT I GUESS?! and then i run away ha ha.

it’s like totally fucking agonising???! but then i go smoke a joint and listen to a 3 hour podcast or something and calm down.

and i think also the experience of reading it again after it’s been posted helps? it reads different when it’s not a draft??? idk why and i can’t explain it. but it’s just like... out there so it’s done so that’s it!!!!

(and then this wasn’t the q but anyway, one of my fave parts is obvs seeing ppl’s reactions but like especially when i’m wrong lol. like i remember before i posted climbing up the walls i was kinda agonising abt whether it was too dark, and the first response was like lol hilarious! and i was like oh yea it is kinda funny too huh. so like i LOVE and treasure the unpredictability of responses but also it’s kinda scary??? but i think im getting a lil better at it... although my poor old phone probs can’t handle being flung away so frequently. i should at least put the case back on it)

What’s the most ridiculous thing you’ve done to put off actually writing?

Ha ha, I don’t know that I do this a lot yknow? Bc I like to have time set aside to properly work on the whole of it (or at least a large chunk), I don’t tend to do stuff that piecemeal? but i also don’t tend to try to force myself to do it if i’m not in the mood bc that doesn’t work.

but a ridiculous thing that i haven’t done that does put it off is that i stillll have no curtains in my living room and it’s like blindingly sunny and that does present problems especially living in what is essentially scandinavia where it’s light most of the night in summer. but the light is so prettttttttty!!!!

not sure if you're still taking gone asks, but I was wondering if you found any aspects of the series unrealistic. Obviously, powers and stuff aren't real, but im wondering more about like, character motivations and reactions to situations.

are you kidding? i’m always taking gone asks! thanks so much for sending this, it’s a great question!

in terms of gone’s character realism, i think mg overall does a pretty good job. a few asks ago i talked about how i thought caine’s character arc felt pretty shoddily written, mainly because i think mg had a solid idea of caine as a villain in the early books that sort of dovetailed into putting him firmly into the “anti-hero/tragic villain” trope in the light, despite him doing numerous terrible things and not showing any remorse for them (because, as the early books indicate, he’s heavily implied to be sociopathic--or at least severely manipulative, and lacking in compassion and empathy) by the time he dies. i blame mg’s sentimentality on ending the series he’d been working on for 7 years--there’s always a temptation to treat your characters more charitably (and give fanservice!) when the end’s in sight and this’ll essentially be their last hurrah. but that’s just what i’d hypothesize; i don’t have any insight into mg’s writing process or anything. anyway, caine’s sacrifice and love note to diana fell flat for me personally. i don’t think mg’s writing of caine as a character has mustered up the goodwill and sympathy in the audience that that kind of heel-face turn demands.

diana is a weird character for me. on one hand, i really like it when she gets her her own pov chapters and we get to see what’s going on in her head. i like that she fully knows caine’s a monster and struggles with her feelings for him as a concept. the only problem for me is the messy way she gets there. in the early books, from what i can remember, diana is fully cognizant of how sadistic and abnormal caine and drake are. she’s a smart girl who is essentially using caine for safety and security, as well as using caine’s attraction to her in order to bolster her low self-esteem due to her adolescence being spent in the presence of creepy adult men who sexualize her for her growing body). that looks good on paper, but diana seems to fall full tilt into loving caine anyway in the later books, which i find a confusing leap. i understand that the trauma of the fayz and all the general baggage she carries around is indubitably a contributing factor, but...i dunno, something about the execution feels weak to me. i don’t think we get enough of a proper bridge between “diana thinks caine is sick and manipulates him” to “diana thinks caine is sick and loves him.”

i think mg essentially wanted a tragic dark parallel to astrid and sam’s healthier and (at least somewhat) mutually respectful relationship, and decided to bypass the process of developing diana to the point where she’d want that with caine in favor of attributing her infatuation to trauma and stockholm syndrome, which can’t help but feel like an unfortunate regression from diana’s character as she is first introduced. to be clear, i’m not trying to say that characters who become stuck in abusive relationships are inherently less interesting or are morally weaker than characters who don’t! it’s just that, to me, that didn’t seem like the natural trajectory for diana’s character in the first book. it felt more like mg had to backtrack her initial savviness regarding caine’s true nature in order to create more interpersonal drama for the coates gang, and that’s disappointing that mg felt he had to do that to such an initially interesting, morally ambiguous female character. i can’t see him doing that to a male character in order to develop a semi-plausible (abusive) love story, is what i’m saying.

i think diana’s character gets a lot more interesting when she’s separated from caine and (ugh) pregnant, though that also has a lot of baggage--diana only gets to significantly develop when she’s carrying caine’s baby, which just feels...gross to me. this is a purely “me” reaction, and probably stems from me being significantly older now than i was when i first read the books back when i was 13, but i can’t help but think that there were better ways for the gaiaphage to get a human form than for two fifteen-year-olds in a dysfunctional, abusive relationship to have multiple instances of unprotected sex. i don’t think mg is particularly gratuitous or scummy about it or anything, but i feel it’s a bit unfortunate. not to mention that the fact that diana feels she has to change for the sake of her child is a pretty unfortunate thing--it means that, ultimately, her feelings about herself have not changed, they’ve just gotten worse.

she doesn’t feel she has to change for herself, she feels she has to change for her idealized, hypothetical child still growing in her stomach.

at the age of fifteen.

idk, it seems to imply a loss of selfhood that’s characteristic of pregnant female characters--they lack the agency they once had because oh, the baby. and that just becomes even more tragic when the female character doing that sort of “i have to change for my child” thing is a child herself who hasn’t the life experience to fully know or understand her own self yet. and i don’t think mg understands the full tragedy of that.

diana doesn’t fully inhabit that trope, of course. i really love that she survives the fayz and seems to fully recognize--and more importantly, accept--that, whether he “loved” her or not, caine was bad news. i like that diana’s baby becomes corrupted by the gaiaphage, because--while i don’t like that it adds more trauma to diana’s bucket--i’m glad that the idea of her pinning her hopes for redemption on an infant who’s unlikely to survive the harsh environment of the fayz anyway are dashed. it sounds cruel, but it’s true.

whew! i’m sorry, i feel i’ve ranted long enough. i might have some more thoughts in the future, but i don’t want to overload you with Stuff. feel free to send more asks! and thank you again! :)
