tv: SONIC X!!!!!!!!!!! the dub is a bit wonky with cut scenes and localization nonsense due to being 4kids but it’s fun, the sub is “better” but who give a shit. also sonic prime and sonic satam are rly good

games:

2d- sonic 2 is basically better sonic 1, sonic cd is a pain in the ASS if you want the good ending but is a rly fun and colorful game with some of the best music from the classic era, i haven’t played any of 3/knuckles or mania but they get praised a LOT!!!!! also sonic rush my beloved

3d- the adventure games! also i’ve heard p-06 is amazing if you want a functional version of sonic 06 but it’s not done yet and i’ve yet to play it lol. also sonic unleashed gets a lot of praise these days and im convinced half of it is people being nostalgic but i haven’t played it so i’ll keep my mouth shut

personal faves- i <3 sonic battle its a silly fighting game with a surprisingly great story for a gba game and has good character moments for shadow. i also love shadow 05 to bits and pieces i did not buy the thing with the manual and everything for nothing but its also a pain in the ass cuz of all the endings

comics: IDW is rly good, archie is. something alright. if u wanna check out archie i just jumped ahead to the ian flynn era which DOES lend to some confusion but it’s less of a Fucking Mess and has a massive improvement with the art being more consistently good. and scourge he’s a bastard and i’m obsessed with him

re-shelled some gameboys this afternoon! The SP was my childhood one, and the GBA I got off ebay for $45, and I have plans to eventually replace the GBA's AGB-100 screen with an IPS LCD screen, and add a rechargeable battery mod + upgraded speaker! You can see their scrapped original shells in the background :)

sorry @hinako-supremacy it got really long and i realized it needed to be its own post so here's my existential crisis ramble about jazz and pokemon

im listening to Carlos Eiene, aka insaneintherainmusic on yt, and his music makes me so nostalgic. he became popular for doing pokemon jazz covers (and a few other games like undertale) when he was in highschool and college. meanwhile i was in 6th grade when i found his channel and it changed my taste in music and me love swing and jazz to this day. in new years of 2022 he announced that he was gonna quit doing covers (after like 8 years of doing them) since copyright is a pain and he wanted to do his own original music and become a professional game composer too. i was really sad but also soooo proud cuz like??? his stuff is amazing??? and its like watching ur childhood friend fulfill their dreams and its so heartwarming. he released his first full original album and its called '' insane in the rain'', named after his channel asjhkhkdjfhsdakfh. i listened to one of the songs (same name as the album) and its a very uplifting song that really feels kinda like a "we did it. we finally made it and i couldn't be more proud" and when i heard it i wanted to cry dkjshfksdjhfk??? it captured exactly how it felt seeing him move on and realizing how much time had past. i finished middle school and high school and his music helped take me to where i am today. i was proud of him, but i was also proud of myself too!! we've both grown to reach the place we've always wanted to be. pokemon music inspired him to improve his skills and become a professional composer in the exact same way that pokemon inspired me to become both a graphic designer and videogame analyst!! and we couldn't have done it without pokemon!!

anyway i remembered this song this morning. and a few days ago, there was a commemorative video that showcased that we've hit 1000 pokemon!!! i think the two together really made me realize how much pokemon has been in my life. my birthday is in 2 weeks, which will roughly mark around 15 years since i first discovered pokemon. admittedly i was really young but i still remember watching the diamond/pearl anime on tv and being both amazed and confused since i didn't watch the episodes in order. so much has changed since then: ive grown attached to other games, got new hobbies and greatly improved in old ones, ive become a dad (/joking lol), and ive gotten rid of my gender. but nothing really changed at all. playing legends arceus on the switch felt the same as playing leafgreen on my GBA SP (aside from the obvious difference of actually being able to read). the desire to explore the world and catch them all is still there.

sometimes i wish i could meet my past self. i do occasionally wonder what they'd think of me. in highschool i used to think they'd be disappointed, but now? i think they'd like college Sumi. im studying art and videogames!! plus i never let go of who i used to be. i think kindergarten me would be proud, and i think im proud of them too. life is good and, for once, i think everything will be ok :)

while the gba is the ninty handheld of my childhood and probably the best one in terms of software, its the 3ds that im actually nostalgic for. first(?) video game console i bought with my own money, had it with me in its heyday all through college, lived in a major city so streetpass was abundant..... sure the layton and phoenix wright games were kind of ass on it but the crossover game was fun, the absolute pinnacle of kirby games lived there, fucking streetpass plaza, fucking PUSHMO, backwards compatible with the entire ds library, best handheld form factor ever with the new 3ds......... just the best. just the fuckin best

today i basically ranted about him all day and before bed i got to watch speedruns of his game's with my partner. which reminded me that i played rayman (1) on the gba (game boy advance?)!! super nostalgic but also funny seeing how my fixation on him had been dormant until just recently when my partner replayed origins & 100% it for me.. I did hyperfixate on him again when origins came out and i DID draw self ship art but im p sure those drawings are long gone.

remembering him, remembering my love for him, and remembering how safe he made me feel when I was younger has been some of the most soothing shit I've experienced all year, I love him bunches & i hope he knows that I'd offer up the entire world for him.

That's if he wasn't already my world xd. Can't wait to go back to drawing him once I'm all well rested.

What's the best g3 movie?

isubjectively or objectively? i know its a matter of opinion in most cases but there are some definite...not my go-to reccommendations.

here’s my little rundown review of all of them because im indecisive. i havent seen some of these in a little bit so bear with me.

A Charming Birthday (2003)

...Cute. mindless. this was my go to for a bit because it features my favorite g3 (sunny daze obv) and is just mindles and sweet. the ponies introduce themselves and then make a charm bracelet. not much special but if you need something easy to focus on for whatever reason i find it a helpful thing with my anxiety and stuff. no songs afairemember so no review on that

Dancing in the Clouds (2004)

dont remember this one too well. i dont mind it though! Not much to say about it.

Friends are Never Far Away (2005)

my favorite half hour. i’m super nostalgic for it, its the only dvd we had of it. the song is a banger. honoloo-lu is so cute. lots of skywishes and starcatcher if you like that one. its just so good and relaxing.

A Very Minty Christmas (2005)

i dont remember this one much either unfortunately! kind of hard to sit through for me, just sort of long? I love the first third or so but when they get on the balloon its a bit boring. not a bad movie i just need to give it a chance

The Princess Promenade

hmm...i think this is my favorite movie or its a tie. its a cute message. i love the magic going on in here. its very ordinary person thrust into unordinary circumstance which is always fun to see. wysteria tries to be a princess, its super cute, you should totally watch this one.

The Runaway Rainbow

what a year for pony movies! this is the other tie. i thiiink this one might edge out over princess promenade just ever so slightly. unicorns! the songs arent bad and i can actually tolerate the slow longing song which is rare for me. stakes are high for a g3 pony movie. this is also what the gba game is about, and the gba game...has great sprites so i think this might be a bit better than princess promenade.

My mobile data ran out and i cant pay the wifi bill until thursday but i didnt go use the library wifi until the day before cos i wanted to ISOLATE MYSELF IN THE INSPIRATION CUBE

I am happy to say i've finished editing the next episode of the lets play!! It took quite a ehile cos i was fighting those usual "i know i just succeeded at starting a thing but what if i am Somehow Bad Actually" nerves. I cant upload it immediately at midnight tho cos its 9am that the internet company's customer support line opens and i dont know how long itll take to turn my service back on once i talk to them. And also there's a few moments in this vid that could be improved if i add some pics and video clips, maybe? Need the net to get those and im too embarassed to watch youtibe in the library because i dunno lol im weird.

But as soon as all of that is done i will BLAST YOU WITH UPLOADS!!!!!

I'm so excited aaa i wanna get into the groove of making at least one vid a week. Its fun and it makes me feel more confident and also im learning new skills of editing and such! Its a growing experience!

Soooo my bandmate/friend lent me his Wii U indefinitely because he has a switch so Im basically in heaven. Nintendo has been my one true VG love since childhood, NES SNES (we never had a 64 but my friends did I was most obsessed with Ocarina of Time and Goldeneye.) Then a Game Boy color with pokemon as my first GB game, onto the GBA which is still one of my all time faves, THEN my Gamecube.

Oh my Gamecube, that sweet perfectly cubed Gameing Device, people give the GC so much Shit and they can all FUCK OFF. My fondest younger memories are with that damn thing, and it was indestructible. Then in came the DS OH MY GOD Like what the hell Nintendo is just always on the edge of the VG future tech. TWO FUCKING SCREENS!?!? and one of the is TOOUCH?!? oh and it has Wifi as well as IR so you can wirelessly connect locally and globally in seconds on a handheld gaming device. Holy balls. The People who made earthbound and mother games made my favourite RPG of all time, Contact, so visually stunning and the game concept is mind boggling and just amazing. Not to mention all of the pokemons, metriop prime hunters! mariokart DS online was amazing. ANIMAL Crossing Wild World?!  Enter the Wii, So glorious, and in such high demand that people were paying over 500% MSRP. First of all wii sports? hours just enjoying the cutting edge of VR motion gameplay.. then you have warioware smooth moves which is the best party game ever, the best part of the wii is anyone can play it, that is what nintendo constantly strives for. The Wii was the last system I owned, and this Wii U is making me so happy. Nintendoland is crazy and nostalgic and addictive as FUCK. The mario kart is so smooth, im scared to play breath of the wild because i am a wimp. and SPLATOON WTF. Now people are all on the switch and yet again nintendo is on top. Someday ill get one when its not an arm and a leg. IN summation. Nintendo is the only company that is devoted to games and game accessories. the other VG makers make all kinds of shit and are just gunning for game companies. GO NINTENDO
