01. HEARTSLABYUL
Trey sighs, rubbing his forehead as he fights the will to stare back up at Ace's hands, as he struggles to chop the peppers on the cutting board, . . "Ace . .?", he calls out as softly as he can muster, and he stares up at him, "yeah?" . . "Take off the knife guard"
Ace stares at him dumbfounded, his head tilting slightly as he looks back at him blankly, "What?" he asks, "The plastic cover on the knife, Ace.", he looks at the knife blankly, then attempts to pull off the cover, his mouth opening to a round 'O' shape, when it comes off.
"Sorry, first time using . . err, fancy knifes." he says as he sets the cover aside, moving back to cutting the peppers as slow as humanely possible, careful not to cut his hands, "Well it feels like the first time you've cut anything in general, so I don't know what argument you're trying to make here." Trey spits back, slightly agitated with his slow movements.
Cater and Riddle, setting up equipment, mainly because Trey doesn't trust Riddle in the kitchen yet, . . he also doesn't trust either of them to be alone with the equipment alone, but together, it's different.
"Trey said to boil four cups of water?", Riddle states but it comes out in the form of a question because honestly he doesn't know what he's doing, "Like a coffee mug, right?", Cater asks holding up a small mug he found on the counter, "I think so, I mean what's the difference!" (There is in fact, a massive difference.)
After setting that up, where they may or may not have spilt water all over the counter; Cater runs a rag through the wet counters, cleaning over the leftover residue, "Didn't Trey mention something about, needing some yeast?" he asks.
Riddle thinks for a moment, "I think we'll be fine, baking doesn't need yeast right."
"Yeah you're probably right", replies Cater, as he stretches his arms, "I guess were done then", Riddle nods, "Mhm, wonder why Trey didn't give us more work."
"Yeah it's almost like he doubts our abilities in the kitchen", Cater states casually, "But were so helpful", "Exactly." (The delusional speaking to the delusional.)
Y/n, Deuce, and Trey baking together.
"Ok so the soup is boiling, I think we can try prepping the bread now?", Trey asks, "Sure thing", you reply, while Deuce helps tie your apron from the back.
"Just one problem . ." Deuce speaks up, finally letting go of the strings of your apron, and looking around at the ingredients laid on the counter, ". . . We're out of yeast." . . You pause, "doesn't all baking recipes, require yeastâ"
Trey blinks . . "GOD FUCKING DAMN IT."
02. DIASOMNIA
Lilia looks over the recipe book, about one whole time before he deems it useless and throws it to the side (It lands in the trash, because clearly THE Lilia Vanrouge doesn't require such things), "Okay so we need some flour, oil, waterâ", he continues listing ingredients while Sebek goes out of his way to grab everything he mentions as fast as possible on the table.
"âSalt, sugar, lemon", Sebek reaches into the cabinet, before muttering, "Lilia . . we're out of salt."
Lilia pauses, thinking for a moment, his inner cooking genius coming together in his head, trying to figure out a swift solution, "We can just use baking soda . . I mean they're both white powders, right?!", Sebek pauses, thinking it over, "Yeah sounds perfectly logical."
Malleus, you, and Silver were in charge of making drinks for the picnic you had planned.
"Where's Silver?" you ask Malleus, while he washes the fruits you both bought the day before, "He fell asleep, I didn't think it would be polite to wake him up", you hum in response, bringing out the chopping boards and knifes on the counter.
You both started cutting mindlessly, while chatting away, "So, what are we making anyways?", he asks curiously, "Just a virgin cocktail of sorâowâfuck!", you drop the knife, "Are you okay?" Malleus asks, ushering to your side.
"I'm fine, it's just a small cut, do you have a band aid?", Malleus nods, "Let me go get it!" (He proceeded to do everything alone until silver woke up and choose to finally help with cutting the rest of the fruit.
The picnic was outside, everyone helped set up the area.
"Lilia . . what's this?", you ask curiously eyeing whatever baked good was on your plate . . (It shouldn't even be called a baked good), "I don't know, I just mixed a few things and threw it in the oven, it's good no?", he asks curiously.
"I can tell", Silver mumbles, as you bump his shoulders slightly, "Ah yes, so goodâSo good in fact, I might just save it for dinner . . I mean Crowley, and his underpaymentâ"
"You can take all of it back to Ramshackle", Lilia suggests, "NO!âI mean, I couldn'târeally . . it would HURT me." (He delivered a basket of baked horrors to your dorm the next morning.)
03. SAVANACLAW
Ruggie draws out his sigh, a scowl permanently placed on his face, as he stares at your pathetic attempt at cutting meat, "Noânot like that . . you're wasting so much good meat", he mumbled the last part, he's trying to be nice, really, but there's only so much patience one can maintain at your mediocre cutting abilities.Â
"You're massacring the meat!", he states firmly, as he finally shoves you away from the cutting board, and takes over your job, leaving you no choice but to move aside and let him have his way, "You know, this wouldn't happen if you . . just taught me how to cut the meat . ." you mumble out in protest, your hands laying at your sides.Â
"I did", he responds dismissively, "No, you just handed me a knife and told me to cut", "Exactly, it's called immersive learning, something you're clearly not good at."Â
You hold up your middle finger, "Fuck you", you bite back, but Ruggie doesn't respond back this time, focusing more so on cutting the expensive cut of meat he got off of Leona's Credit Card.
Leona enters the kitchen while you both were well near finished with kitting the meat.
"Morning", he yawns out, "So close, it's the afternoon", you blurt out, rolling your eyes at his overall casual demeanor, meanwhile you've been dealing with star michelin chef Ruggie's nagging all morning, from your cutting game, to how you can't just eyeball salt levels.Â
"Close enough" he shrugs, looking over the counter, "Watcha' making?", he asks blankly, "Minced meat, clearly", Ruggie says in the most deadpanned way possible, pointing to your mess of cut meat, "Oh shit, who massacred the meat?" Leona asks, Ruggie looks at you.Â
You cough, and look away, "I tried teaching them", Ruggie says in the most distraught tone he can muster, "Well clearly not well enough", Leona states bluntly, and you let out a small chuckle at Ruggie's expense. Â
Jack comes in, awhile after Leona leaves the room, he greets you both and looks at the cutting board, one side of minced and mushed meat, and the other with perfectly diced meat, "Who fuck up the meat?", he asks bluntly, and Ruggie looks at you again, "Seriously, is it that bad!?"Â
04. POMEFIORE
"Are you sure I'm doing this right?", you mumble out, as you continue mixing away, "You're doing amazing, trickster!" Rook exclaims, way too fucking energetically for it being 3am in the goddamn morning, your arms were practically falling apart, already aching from the school day, and now you're stuck on mixing duty, of all things that are involved in the glorious process of baking, mixing is the worst part.Â
âAhâI think we need more apples, give me a momentâ, Rook walks out of the kitchen, and Epel finally lays back, stretching his arms, before looking at you, a chuckle escapes him at your expression, âYou look like shitâ, he says blankly, âwow, I didnât askâ, you respond back, staring at him blankly, as he moves closer to you.Â
You guys stare at each other for a brief moment, before he smiles and flicks your forehead, âCheer up, you look like the goddamn walking deadâ.Â
You blink, and a smile takes over your features after probably hours, âFuck youâ, you mumble out, under your breath, but he doesnât take any offense, moving back to his original spot.Â
A couple hours later, the pie was in the oven, the lights were off, Epel was on the counter, you sitting down beside the oven, while Rook was busy mixing some sort of cocktail or something, surprisingly heâs good at mixing drinks.
âSo anyways, Ace was like, âhe doesnât even have a hairline, why does he need a comb forâââ, you speak, moving your hands around as you recount your story, when something enters the room, something green, and your oven alarm goes off, âring, ring, ringâ, and the next thing you know, you, Epel were screaming and running behind Rook.Â
âOh, Good morning Roi du Poisonâ, Rook says in his cheery voice, and you both turn your face from him to the figure on the door, and then Vil flicks on the lights, groaning, âWhy are you two still up, and why are you YELLING!â, Vil says, trying to stay as calm as humanly possible, turns out he gets up at the ass crack of dawn, and that his morning mud mask is a putrid green, things to note.Â
05. IGNIHYDE
Ortho, sets the flour on the counter, you'd be surprised at both his speed and strength if you didn't know he was a robot, and you're also not in the position to focus on him right now.Â
"Do I need to wear this?", Idia asks softly, as you tie the pink apron on him from the bow, making sure the strings come together in a bow, "don't you want to make your brother happy?", you tease softly, a chuckle escaping you as you watch his shoulders slump and he mumbles out a soft, "yeah . . ", the tips of his hair burn pink, heâs embarrassed.Â
"Do you need help with yours?", he asks pointing to the white apron on the counter, you'd usually say no, but who are you to refuse when he already seems flustered over asking in the first place, "Yeah."Â
Idia fiddles with the straps of the apron, struggling to tie a proper knotâ"This isn't too tight, right?", he asks softly, and you nod. He ties a messy knot, that somehow holds together, you don't have to look at him to know he's embarrassed, you smile loosely, walking closer to Ortho, âShall we start?â.Â
06. SCARABIA
Kalim sits on top of the counter, headphones on, dangling his legs (heâs just a girl . . jkjk), as he watches you and Jamil cook. Too bad those headphones were soundproof, because what he thought was a cute interaction was actually World War 3 for you, âYou call this a roti?â, Jamil asks you, trying his best to remain calm (heâs failing horribly), âWell itâs technically a roti . . â you try and reason, the ingredients were the same . . technically.Â
â. . .â, he pauses, taking a few deep breaths, trying to control his voice, which wasnât working, âTHATâS A GODDAMN TRIANGLEâ, you stare at Jamil blankly, âThe roti has a good personality!âÂ
Jamil lifts the big pot full of water onto the stove, and sets everything up, probably because he didnât trust you with many things, except pouring water into the pot, though he eyed you through the entire process, which at that point he could just do it himself, âNow put in the spicesâ, he says, as he watches bring out the turmeric jar.Â
âHow much?â you ask, as you take out the measuring spoons from the cabinet, âAs much as your heart desires, only stop when your heart tells you to stop.â, he replies in the most serious way possible that you almost believed him.Â
âJamil?â you ask, âYes?â he replies, straightening his back, âI meant the spices, not my love life, I donât need advice from you of all people.â
â . . . â he pauses, âget the hell out of my kitchen . .â (Heâs about to blow, actually), "GET THE HELL OUT OF MYâ"
07. OCTAVINELLE
âAre you sure this is a reputable idea?â, you ask Azul as he looks through the ingredients Jade brought in for his new recipe idea, you donât exactly understand why they asked you for your help, he has a multitude of workers to select from, but who are you to deny a cash offering, thatâs just silly, Azul shakes his head, âJadeâs tastes are surely questionable, but he never fails when it comes to the Monstro Lounge.â he responds with a smile, his pen checking off everything in his list.Â
âWhy is Shrimpy here?â, Floyd asks curiously, leaning into the counter, placing his head in his hands, âTo help, I guess . .â You respond, and Floyd shakes head, âNo . . you need to eatâ, Floyd says bluntly, âWhat? I ate!â, you snip back at him, confused at the sudden shift in topic, âNo yeah, thatâs why we asked you to come here, Floyd said you werenât eating properly.â, Azul shrugs, as if this was just the most normal thing ever.Â
And now you're here, on the table, eating something they served you, while Jade keeps you company, because apparently heâs not allowed in the kitchen for a month, after last weekâs incident, which honestly you donât want to know about.Â
You take a bite of the pasta, they gave you way too big of a serving if you were being honest, but they wouldnât take no for an answer, so you gave up trying to shut them down, you look up, and find Jade staring at you, âWhat?â you ask him curiously.Â
âYou have something on your faceâ, he says blankly and you quickly rub your face, trying to get whatever it is off, and he chuckles, âKidding, youâre really easy to trickâ, you frown but continue eating the food in front of you, âHey . . Do you happen to know why Floyd calls you shrimpy?â, he asks, eyeing you curiously.Â
You shake your head, no, "You wanna know why?", he asks casually, almost comfortingly but you try not to misread the situation, you nod, "Why?"Â
"Because you're like a shrimp, tiny and weak, on the lower end of the food-chainâ", you throw a piece of bread at him, "I'm kiddingâStop wasting the bread!", he says, as he moves away before you can throw more at him, "What's the real reason?", you ask again, "Because you seem weak and sad, I mean with how Crowley treats you and allâ", he pauses, âhe didnât explain more than that, but you seemed lonely, like a lot of shrimps.âÂ
And that's when it hits you, like a truck, these fish breath assholes, care . . a lot . . more than you give them credit for.Â

That girl (woman) - Lewis Hamilton
Part of 1K Jukebox Event
song: That girl - Olly Murs
pairing: Husband!Lewis Hamilton x Reader!
genre: fluff
a/n: tried a little something different with the pov and the narrative, let me know what you guys think.
wordcount: +1k
As always, I'm open for feedback, come say hi!
______________________________________________________________
It was a regular Wednesday mid-autumn, the kind of quiet morning in the Hamilton household that felt precious in its ordinariness. Lewis sat at the edge of their bed, balancing a tray loaded with her favorite redberry pancakes and a fresh bouquet perched precariously on the side table.
Before we dive deeper, let me share a little secret about Lewis. Heâs a legend on the trackâspeed, skill, mind, the whole package. But there, in their Monaco apartment, watching his wife sleep soundly as morning eased into afternoon, he was just a man.
And as he gazed at her with a strange mix of tenderness and a touch of guilt, it was clear he was reflecting on what he nearly threw away once.
You see, Y/n hadnât been just any woman in his life. Sheâd been a force, a renowned stylist, beloved by many. And Lewis, in a past he now could only shake his head at, had once thought he was doing her a favor by pushing her away.
Heâd believed that she deserved someone less weighed down by a career that dragged him across continents, with fame that threw him, and her by default, under every public spotlight.
So, in a moment of misguided self-sacrifice, heâd told her she deserved better. Needed to leave him, heâd said, so she could find someone who could give her the life she deserved.
But sheâd seen through his words. Sheâd planted herself firmly in his life and told him, in no uncertain terms, that if he truly wanted her gone, heâd have to make the effort to really let her go.
He hadnât, of courseâ couldnât. And now, there she was, their child growing inside her, still by his side.
Back in the bedroom that overlooked the Mediterranean Sea, Y/n began to stir, her dark lashes fluttering as she woke.
The sunlight had climbed high, a clear sign sheâd overslept. Not that it was surprising. Lately, the exhaustion came in wavesâpregnancy was starting to demand more rest from her.
She shifted slightly, her bump visible under the soft rise of his oversized T-shirt sheâd claimed as sleepwear. Lewis smiled at that, too, how sheâd taken so much of him as her own.
As Y/n stretched, blinking sleep from her eyes, she spotted Lewis there, looking all too pleased with himself, balancing that breakfast tray as if heâd been waiting an hour to make his grand entrance.
âWhy, Sir. To what do I owe this royal breakfast treatment?â she asked, her voice still drowsy, as she raised an eyebrow playfully though she wore a faint smile.
âOh, nothing much,â he said, setting the tray in front of her. But there was something about the way he lingered, how his eyes traced her face a bit longer than usual, and how his hand found its way to her bump, lightly brushing circles over her stomach.
She noticed it too, of course. Y/nâs gaze slid from him to the pancakes, to the bouquet of wildflowers heâd set down beside her. His hand was still there, fingers spreading, gentle against her skin.
She tucked into the pancakes, savoring the tart sweetness of the berries, though one eye was still on him. He was keeping quiet, which was unusual enough to make her pause, fork halfway to her mouth.
He didnât speak, but his fingers had settled in, tracing softer circles on her tummy, as if trying to connect with their child through her skin.
âAlright, spill it, Hamilton,â she said at last, her eyes narrowing slightly with suspicion. She hadnât missed the glances, the softer smiles, or how his usual self-assured charm was just a little off this morning.
He fumbled. Oh yes, THE Lewis Hamiltonâsix inches taller than everyone else when it came to confidenceâstumbling on his words now as he looked back at her, gathering himself as if preparing to speak before a packed audience.
âItâs nothing. Really, I justâŠâ he hesitated, clearing his throat. âI just wanted to thank you. For yesterday. For coming to the factory with me.â
Ah, yes, the visit. Y/n had been there at his side all day, chatting with engineers and mechanics, giving them warm smiles, sometimes asking the kind of questions that endeared her to the team.
Sheâd been there, even though they both knew sheâd been exhaustedâheâd seen it in the way she leaned against surfaces or rested a hand on her bump when she thought he wasnât looking.
But sheâs the kind of person whoâd walk the extra mile without a second thought if it meant making him feel grounded
âOhâ She waved it off. âI just know itâs important for you to have your support system there. Besides, weâll leave you alone to those visits for a while, after this one gets here.â She gave him a smile, and it was enough to make Lewis sit back, humbled and deeply, thoroughly grateful.
Because thatâs the thing about Y/n. She didnât just say the right things. She showed up. She showed him, again and again, that he was worth it to her.
When heâd told her to leave, thinking he was noble, sacrificing himself for her own good, sheâd thrown it right back at him. Said if he wanted her gone, heâd have to be a man and make it happen. He hadnât. And in not doing it, heâd made a choice just as firmly as she had.
He reached out then, brushing his fingers on her cheek, his hand lingering for a moment, as if memorizing her face.
Y/n, ever observant, took his hand, resting it over hers. She could feel the weight of everything unsaidâhow his grip was just a bit tighter, his thumb brushing her knuckles in slow circles. Her eyes softened, and for once, he allowed himself to drop the pretense.
âI know Iâve said it before,â he started, his voice quiet. âBut I donât think I can ever say it enough. Iâm grateful. For you, for our little one. For everything.â
She let out a small laugh, rolling her eyes. âLewis, you donât need to go poetic on me. Iâm not going anywhere.â
He chuckled, but even then, there was a solemnity in his expression, an echo of the worry that had lived with him since that fateful night years ago when heâd tried to push her out.
He leaned in close, pressing a soft kiss to her forehead, his lips lingering just long enough to let her know he was serious.
They didnât need words, not really. She knew, and he knew she knew.
Thatâs the magic theyâd always shared. She didnât need a grand speech to understand that in the way he carried her breakfast in, the way heâd brushed her cheek, he was telling her a thousand times over just how lucky he felt.
For Lewis, that single kiss said everything he couldnât.
They sat there in quiet contentment, her finishing the last of her pancakes, his hand tracing that rhythmic pattern on her bump again, as if communicating with their little one in their secret code.
âNowâ she said, breaking the silence as she watched him circling his fingers on her belly âI need you to go. This mamaâs got work, and so do you, unless you plan on spending the rest of the day like this.â
âWouldnât be the worst thingâ he said, flashing a mischievous grin.
But he stood regardless, though he couldnât resist stealing one more kiss. Because thatâs also the thing about Lewisâheâd had a brush with losing her once, and he wasnât about to let it happen again.
So there he was, savoring the sight of her, engraving this moment into memory. After all, being wrong about her had been the best mistake of his life.

God I love this au, it's feeding me so good today. The last one with the part about only one bedroom has me thinking about a sick reader, the gross kind of sick where you're sweaty and wheezy and snotty, and the fact that if it were anyone else Simon would be quarantining them. But because it's his spouse, he wakes up to you nasally wheezing and mouth breathing while sprawled across him, and all he can think about is when you're due for your next round of medicine and if he needs to buy more tissues.
Sometimes love comes coated in mucus, and is reciprocated with an artificial cherry taste. Also do the guinea pigs have names and what do they look like?
I'm dying. This is the first ever ask I've ever gotten (that I recall) and I'm going to pass away. Also "sometimes love comes coated in mucus, and is reciprocated with an artificial cherry taste" that is such a good line, I'm apologizing in advance if I steal it.
Also warning for content of being sick, this is based off my last bout of plague.
Also Also Here's the Masterlist
Bedsharing in general does not happen at first. (Now I want to percolate an idea about sharing the bed for the first time). You're way to use to having your own bed that sharing with someone means you're not sleeping easily and I think Simon would rather sleep with the guinea pigs in their cage than have another human being that close to him when he sleeps. (This was also not something he initially thought about when being told a spouse was to be picked)
So what's the solution? Obviously bunk beds! Kind of, sorta...okay not really but the look on Simon's face when you had suggested getting bunk beds had been entertaining. Who knew so much indignation could come through a medical mask. Really his eyebrows did so much talking.
With the dream of bunkbeds dashed, the next best solution was either two twin beds crammed into the bedroom with a bedside's worth of space between them, or a pull out couch. You managed to find a couch same day that didn't terribly clash with the artwork you have yet to hang up.
You two actually manage to come up with a schedule for who slept where. Obviously you'd get the bed when Simon was deployed, made no sense for you not to. And when he was home the bed was all his unless he was having a night that he knew he wasn't going to trust a deadbolt to keep monsters at bay. Then he made himself comfortable, TV playing low until he managed a few hours in the early morning before you try to leave a silently as you can for work.
(Funny thing, even if you aren't sharing a bed traditionally, you both most certainly have your own sides, along with bed stands that told two different stories)
The first time you get sick is when Simon is technically deployed. Well actually, the day he returns is the day you spike a 101.8 fever and work forces you to go home so you don't become a walking petri dish and expose the college kids that come into your office.
Once you're home you appease the little beasts demanding some sort of vegetal boon, change into the rattiest clothes you have, and then huddle under a staggering amount of blankets that have made their home on your bed. (Simon may have side eyed them when you first set them out, but you've seen the mountain he creates under them, you knew the magic of weighted blankets)
Sleep isn't peaceful, you hadn't broken out the Nyquil quite yet, but you do manage to drift off for a few hours. And then the coughing starts. It's the kind that's a bitch to deal with, dry and pushing your ribs to the limit with how often they can expand and contract. By the time Simon comes home you've steamed yourself twice, taken only a smidge over the recommended amount of cough suppressant, and slathered yourself with Vic's Vaporub. All in all, you were properly miserable.
You're in the kitchen, staring into the abyss of your over-steeping tea as if it will magically make you feel better if you only sell your soul to it, really a tempting offer, when the wheeks of the pigs announce that another person they know has arrived.
If Simon wasn't clued in that something was off at seeing you home before the end of your work day, the pungent smell of menthol would have been a dead give away. You're still communing with your tea when he knocks against the wall, pulling you out of the deal for your soul to meet him with bleary eyes and a flushed face.
You croak out a greeting that makes Simon wince in sympathy, though that's about all he really does. Simon doesn't really do pleasantries and doting probably wouldn't be the first word people use to describe him, so with your brain function reduced by an overflow of mucus and fever, the kitchen was rather silent.
Until you started coughing, face buried into the crook of your elbow to try to keep your contagion to a minimum and back bowing to nearly double you over. That drives Simon to action, coming to try to keep you up incase you collapse, grabbing your free arm.
When you feel him touch you, you try to pull away, shaking your head and finally finishing your bout, gasping a little as you try to daunting task of breathing and speaking to dissuade him from getting close lest he catches what you have. He clearly wasn't persuaded, hands clenching and unclenching like he simply wanted to pick you up and put you...somewhere.
How exactly Simon Riley would take care of you, he didn't know but he'd be damned sure to at least try. He'd been left to fend for himself while sick before and he didn't like the idea of you going through that. When it was clear that he wasn't going to just leave you to your suffering you relented enough to try to reach a compromise; if he'd be alright watching the pigs while you were sick that would be more useful than a nursemaid while you camped out on the couch.
That...that was something Simon could do. He'd watched how you took care of the boys, surely this was something he could do. And then his brain caught up to the rest of what you had said. There was no way he was going to let you sleep on some pull out couch, as nice as it was. Being Sick meant sleeping in a proper bed, on a mattress that didn't spend it's days folded up.
You tried to insist it was alright but he wouldn't listen to a word of it. Instead he practically herded you back to the bedroom, ignoring your murmurs of your abandoned hot beverage. He didn't lift you to plop you onto the bed itself but it was a near thing. He had to bribe you with the promise of a proper cup of tea for you to even lay your head on your pillow, eyes already heavy with the need for sleep. By the time he had actually made a cup you were out for the count, nasally mucus filled snores letting him know you hadn't perished in the time it took him.
The next few days were filled with mucus, the attempted escape of your lungs via coughing fits, and more Vics than the human body should be exposed to. And the entire time you insisted that you could fend for yourself. Simon didn't push to play nurse, but your tissues never ran out, a dose of medication was always ready on your bedside, and a warm cup of tea stood waiting for you after each nap, like a solider committed to his guard.
Edit;
I'm going to make a separate post for the guinea pigs, because honestly I'm torn on if they're based on my guinea pigs I used to have, or guinea pigs I'd want to have in the future

I mean... I have gone through phases of reading something like a hundred books a year for absolutely no reason other than I've been a compulsive reader forever? And that (plus undiagnosed ADHD ahahaa) does tend to make you read some things really really fast? Not everything, and it's not a bad thing as such.
I ran across both of these today and I just
I mean there are a fair few different things going on here:
Big chunks of text aren't the easiest for anyone to read, and on a purely functional level they do tend to interrupt the flow of reading. If you read fast, you do tend to automatically skim longer paras, pick out the odd word and assess how relevant the whole section really is to pay attention to. It's a valid and recognised reading technique (literally how they reach speed reading) and if you do realise you've missed anything important, you can always go back and check (one reason I prefer reading to audiobooks).
That tiktoker is talking pretty specifically about a particular genre, and I don't think it's that controversial to say a fair amount of that genre can be considered skimmable if you're not reading it for the writing per se - romantasy particularly is mainly targeted at adults but a fair amount of it is then written at a YA level. It's deliberately predictable and not designed to be challenging to read (there is a whole other essay to be written about communicating information and which reading level you choose for that). Sometimes you just like the trope or the characters or a setting or something and that's all you want from a (very long) book. Skimming is a totally reasonable way to approach that.
If you have ADHD especially, then a lot of the time it feels like you're trying to outwit and outpace your attention span whenever you start a new book (literally the same reason I have to binge TV shows or I forget they exist between episodes). Sometimes the choice is between finishing the book really really fast before you lose interest, putting it down and completely forgetting what happened (or that it exists at all), or chucking it on the DNF pile where it will taunt you as yet another thing you failed at :)
Which is to say that sometimes skimming is the only technique that lets you finish a book, and finishing a book does your self-esteem a whole world of good if you frequently beat yourself up for being flakey.
I cannot stress enough that most books aren't inherently skimmable but that person is talking about specific books that are, for them. It's not about being disdainful about reading or books, it's about wanting to read and finding a method that works best for you.
These people have to be stopped
#lmao complaining about people reading too many books takes me right back to my childhood ahaahaaa#reading books is also better for your brain than doomscrolling (and gives your eyes a screen break)#if you're a compulsive kind of person then you're going to be doing ~something~ like that and books are the least worst option#i have a very short list of authors who i trust to write tropey genres well and their writing i do tend to wallow in#but I'm still racing to finish books i love because it's ~still~ the only way to outwit my brain#the occasional audiobook narrator i can tolerate just feels soooo slow i save them to fall asleep to or for migraine naps#listening on a faster speed is the most horrendous thing ever and it's STILL slower than reading it#I'm trying to quit twitter doomscrolling so here i am writing shit on tumblr instead with two paperbacks abandoned on my lap#i need to go to bed and read a chunk of the really good book i am currently not skimming

Kinktober Day 29 - Masks/Costumes
A/N: Okay so this came about because of a conversation with @jhoneybees and a tiktok about imagining Elvis doing a Calvin Klein advert. This is basically set now, but imagine it's 1969 Elvis, don't ask me how that works it just does.
Pairing: 69!Elvis x photographer!reader
Word count: 2.1K
TWs: This concept is maybe too hot to think about for too long so be careful, masturbation, p in v sex, dirty photos, kinda public sex. There's a mask but honestly I just shoehorned it in there.
Kinktober masterlist
âSo if you could just strip down to the underwear, and then make yourself comfortable on the chair. Weâve got some props in the box too.â
Elvis frowns a little at the word âpropsâ, but does as heâs told. Heâs nervous about this photoshoot. He never thought he would do anything like this, but here he is. He starts to strip, feeling self-conscious under the hot lights. Heâs never really been a big fan of underwear but these new Calvin Klein boxer shorts are pretty comfortable. They donât leave much to the imagination, though, and he sits awkwardly on the armchair, shuffling his legs about.Â
âCan you put one of those masks on, please?â
He starts at the voice. Female, honeyed, with an air of authority. Looking up, heâs confronted by you and your camera. Heâd been expecting the female set helpers but not a female photographer. Becoming even more aware of the way his dick looks in his pants, he crosses one leg over the other. He pulls a mask out of the box of props and puts it on over his eyes, feeling like this must look absolutely ridiculous but trying his best to be amenable. The lights are beating down on him and he feels like the entire room of people is staring at him. Heâs usually happy to be looked at, encourages it almost, but this is different. He feels naked, exposed.Â
âUm⊠uh⊠is this okay, honey?â
You sigh. âUncross your legs. And stop calling me honey, Mr Presley.â
âAh I-Iâm sorry⊠MissâŠâ he stumbles awkwardly over the words. âYaâŠum⊠ya donât have ta call me Mr Presley. Elvis is fine.â
âUncross your legs, Elvis.â
You watch as he slowly does as you tell him. Men calling you pet names annoys you on principle, but heâs much less cocky than youâd expected. Thereâs something endearing about the way he stumbles over his words and seems a little unsure of himself.Â
âThatâs great, thanks. Weâll take a few shots for the lighting now. Try to relax.â
Elvis tries his very best to relax, but he canât help but feel a combination of terror and arousal. Youâre gorgeous but he canât seem to charm you like he usually would. You donât seem interested. Maybe youâre just being professional, but itâs still off-putting. He puts a hand on each of the arms of the chair and tries to keep his expression neutral. You take a few shots and ask the lighting technicians to make one or two changes until youâre happy. Then you actually look at his face and realise he looks terrified.Â
âReally try to relax, Elvis. You look like youâre about to be eaten by a grizzly bear.â
Thereâs a moment of silence and then he bursts out laughing. His whole face lights up as he belly-laughs and you grin back, taking a few photos of him looking natural. You take a quick look at them and decide you can do without the mask. It was something that the stylist had suggested for the shoot, and youâd wondered why anyone would want to cover up such a gorgeous face, but theyâd done a relatively good job of persuading you. Some kind of eyes wide shut theme or something like that. But it doesnât work, and you arenât one to stick to things just for the sake of it.Â
âThatâs better! Get rid of the mask too, thatâs not working for me.â
He smiles, pulling it off and throwing it onto the floor. âThis working for you, honey?â He asks, cheekily, leaning back in the chair and spreading his legs wide.Â
You find yourself biting your lip to stifle a moan. He looks damn hot. But you have to be professional. Youâve done plenty of these photoshoots with attractive men, and you havenât lost your cool yet.Â
âThatâs great. Letâs have a few of you smiling like that and then a couple of serious ones.â
His brain works overtime as he follows your directions. Are you interested? He swears he saw you bite your lip just then, but your voice is even and professional and youâre not flirting back at all.Â
You keep snapping away with the camera, directing him and the lighting people until you get what you want. Your eyes are drawn to his hands, the glittering rings and the length of his fingers⊠you clear your throat. Have to keep things professional.Â
âYou getting what you need, honey?â His eyes are sparkling and thereâs a little smile playing about his lips.Â
âWhat did I tell you about calling me honey? Itâs not 1973.â
Elvis raises both eyebrows and then lets them fall again. Does he detect something different in your voice? The tiniest quiver?
âYou didnât answer my question. Are ya gettinâ what ya need?â
He runs his tongue over his lips and you have to work hard not to lose it completely.Â
âYes, thank you, Elvis.âÂ
Your eyes involuntarily shift to the bulge in his pants. Luckily the camera is against your face so he canât see where youâre looking, but you just stare. Itâs definitely been growing over the course of the photoshoot.Â
âJust one or two more. Give me your sexiest look.â
You have no idea why you decided to play with fire like that, and you regret it immediately. He smoulders, blue eyes staring at you as he rests his chin in his hand. Your panties are definitely getting damp now. You take a few more photos and then bite your lip, hard.Â
âThatâs great. Thanks. Thatâs a wrap!âÂ
Elvis blinks. He doesnât want this to be over. Heâs having far too much fun.
âCould ya do one or two more? Iâm not sure I gave ya my sexiest lookâŠâ
Your stomach flip-flops. If that wasnât his sexiest look youâre not sure you want to see what is.
âWell, okay, maybe one or two more.â
The lighting technician sighs audibly. Itâs well past lunch time. You look over at him.Â
âWhy donât you go for lunch? The lights are fine.â You look around at the other one or two people in the room. âYou can all go. We wonât be much longer.â
Elvis watches the scene with interest. Youâre refusing to make eye contact with him and he swears youâre blushing. Everyone else is just happy to be allowed to go, grabbing their things and making their way out. Itâs just you and him now, and the room is quiet.
Elvis breaks the silence. âWe wonât be much longer, hm?âÂ
You look up, awkwardly, suddenly wondering just what you thought you were doing when you sent everyone else for lunch.Â
âN-no, justâŠuh⊠one or two more shots.â
Elvis chuckles. âRelax, baby. You look like youâre about to be eaten by a grizzly bear. And I ainât that big.â But I will eat ya, he thinks.Â
The tension in the room defuses for a minute or two as you laugh along with him. You pick up your camera again.Â
âOkay, come on then. Really give me your sexiest look this time.â
You can hear your heart beating in your ears and feel your whole body getting hot. He runs his fingers through his hair, closing his eyes for a moment, and then you watch as they spring open and he fixes you with the most intense stare. Propping his head up again on the back of his hand, elbow on the arm of the chair, without any kind of warning he puts a finger in his mouth and bites on the knuckle. You almost faint on the spot.Â
âFuck.â
His eyes widen and his lips curl into a smile.Â
âWhatâs that, baby?â Noting thatâs the second time heâs called you baby and got away with it.
âN-nothing. Thatâs good. Youâre right, that is sexier than what you were doing before.â
Your heart is pounding in your chest, your panties are ruined and youâre actively suppressing a moan. He can see the effect heâs having and he knows exactly when to strike.Â
âCome closer.â
His voice is so syrupy you canât help yourself, putting one foot in front of the other until youâre standing right in front of him. You shakily move your camera from your face.Â
âI-I think Iâve got what I⊠um⊠need,â you babble, trying to keep your eyes on his face but finding them wandering down to his boxers again.Â
âNothing else ya need?â He teases, moving one of his hands to rest on his clothed dick.Â
You swallow. âN-no, Elvis.â
âNo?â
You just stare at him, unable to speak.Â
âNothing else ya want to take a photo of?âÂ
Part of him canât believe heâs being this bold, but he finds himself staring right into your eyes as he rubs his dick through the boxers, letting out a little breathy sigh and biting his lip.Â
The tension is unbearable.Â
âWhat are you offering?â You whisper, your eyes darting down to his hand on his dick and back up again.Â
He smirks. âJust sayinâ ya can take photos of whatever ya like.â
You step back and bring your camera back up to your face, snapping a photo of him with his hand so obviously touching himself through his pants.Â
âTake it out,â you find yourself instructing him.Â
He grunts, shifting the boxers down a little as he reaches inside them for his dick, pulling it out and stroking it a couple of times.
âCan you⊠move the boxers down⊠further?â Your mouth feels dry and you try desperately to swallow.Â
He pulls them down a little more and you gulp, seeing his balls exposed under that big, thick shaft. You take a few more photos. Elvisâ chest heaves.Â
âTouch yourself again.â
He does as heâs told, slowly moving his foreskin up and down, staring right into the camera as he does it. You adjust the lens, take more photos, squeeze your thighs together.Â
Your hands shake as you move the camera away from your face. He looks so good.Â
âYou got what you need?â He asks, still lazily stroking himself.Â
You shake your head, trying to put the camera down carefully before walking the couple of steps it takes to reach him.Â
âNo. I need your dick inside me.â
He groans, watching as you pull your pencil skirt up around your waist and position yourself on his lap, pulling your panties to the side and sinking down on his length.Â
âFuck,â you murmur, feeling him stretch you.Â
âYou okay, baby?â He asks, as you gasp at the feeling of him filling you up completely.Â
Youâre surprised at the tenderness, at the way he pulls you into a kiss when you tell him yes. Your arms snake around his neck and his fingers grip your hips, thrusting up into you from underneath. You lean your forehead against his, panting as you roll your hips too, both of you holding each other.Â
âHow long have we got?â He asks.Â
âI donât know,â you breathe, cursing yourself for not checking the time when you let everyone else go. âWe better be quick.â
He nods, his grip on your hips getting tighter as he fucks you from underneath. You start to bounce on him, matching his pace, both of you moaning against one anotherâs skin.Â
âBaby, you feel so good.â
You bounce faster, your fingers finding their way into his hair. âFuck me harder,â you murmur.Â
His hips snap up obediently, driving his dick even deeper inside you. He can feel himself getting close but he wants you to cum first.Â
âYou close?â
You nod, pulling one of his hands down between your legs. He doesnât need any further instructions, his thumb rubbing your clit as he keeps pounding you. Your fingers grip and pull his hair as your orgasm builds in the pit of your stomach.Â
âFuck. Fuck.âÂ
Elvis grips you more tightly, feeling how close you are. His thumb rubs harder and faster and you feel yourself start to unravel.Â
âIâm cumming⊠ohhhhâŠ.âÂ
He watches you as you arch backwards, riding him through your high, desperately wishing he could take a picture. Your walls squeezing him tightly push him over the edge too, and without thinking he cums inside you.Â
âFuck. Honey. I uh⊠are ya on the pill?â
You lean your sweaty forehead against his again, one hand wrapped around the back of his neck.Â
You smirk. âYeah. Donât worry.â Pressing a kiss to his lips. âBut what did I tell you about calling me honey?â

What's your opinion on how Telemachus was handled in Epic (so far) ? I'm curious đ.
And what is different from his Odyssey portrayal ? Not counting the fanart that infantilizes him, I'm strictly talking about the musical itself.
Hahahaha you guys definitely wanna put me against a wall one of these days! XD But I absolutely LOVE this question! Hahaha okay here goes;
Absolutely I wasn't gonna talk about the fanart and all that is part of the designing process and arguably that is part of every person to do. They could easily choose the depiction more Odyssey-accurate and still use the musical sound so yes you do well to mention it because yes I myself wouldn't touch the design part in this ask
Anyways long story short; I don't like it.
Storywise it is overly-simplified and shows only one portion of his possible emotions; the one that tries to connect with his father. That part is genuine and I see where the portrayal such as the song "Legendary" came from. Arguably Homer himself also touches the subject of glory through one's deeds and I see where the musical came from when Telemachus says what he says but the song was too bbbly, too naive portrayal of Telemachus and in a way completely disregarded the true depth of sadness and depression in Telemachus.
In the Odyssey Telemachus never connected to his father because his father was never there. To the point where he was even doubting whether he was his son or not. He basically says that "everyone calls me that but how can I know? The dude was never there. Possibly never will be here again". His whole energy was the total opposite than Epic.
Epic portrays Telemachus in a manner that reminds me of Disney's Little Mermaid in "Part of your world"; a bubbly teenager who dreams to start his life or to be making a legendary name for himself like his father and in childish naive energy says "bring me all these monsters to fight them!" while in his childish naive nature was also making him afraid or worried to face the bullying of the suitors (the way the suitors were portrayed as if Jorge wanted to make them EVEN MORE evil also had me cringe like Antinous calling Penelope "tramp". Antinous called Penelope more or less "divious" because of her scheme against them but that was all. In here they are competing for her hand while calling her names without reason? Yeah right....). He seemed like the average teenager that needs the adult to get him to realize video games is not the life and that he needs to do something about his future! Does he also seem low-key sad? Yes. But just like Ariel in the Disney movie was pictured as a dreamer that wanted escape from his confided situation through bubbly and childish dreams.
Odyssey Telemachus was both emotionally and psychologically exhausted; his mother was taken down by grief and endless waiting and had confided herself in her chambers, trying her best to avoid the suitors that were at her home for FOUR YEARS, constantly crying at this point. Telemachus also saw his grandfather lose his mind in sorrow and his grandmother melting away by desperation and sadness and dying or potentially killing herself by it. The last thing he wanted was "to be legendary". In fact Telemachus gave me the exact opposite energy than a dreamer. He was very down to earth and his main goal was to get out of this nasty situation, trying to grow as a person to set himself free from this torment. He had so much in his plate that the last thing he wanted was to dream. In fact he gave me the impression of a person with no more the luxury of dreaming. He almost seemed crushed to the point of breaking himself almost like every other member of his family. (He gives me the impression of a person that after spent years of trying and fulflling their dreams now they are forced to work in a work they hate for survival and think that "dreams are for fools. No luxury for them!")
Like I said Menelaus described Telemachus as a spitting image of his father including his eyes, which is something I find the most important. Menelaus compared Telemachus's gaze to Odysseus; a man that fought a war with him! A man exhausted by the evil he saw and caused. Telemachus's profound grief was so intense that his look was equivalent to a man Menelaus fought a war with! He was the opposite of what we see in Epic! In fact we know that Telemachus was also very much silent and tried to keep a low profile so he didn't need to face the humiliation of the men that were literally plundering his wealth and harassing his mother and himself. The last thing he had in his mind would be to "be legendary". He was also plundered by the fact that not only was he doubting that Odysseus was his father per se but also he was in doubt that this Odysseus that everyone named his father would be alive or dead. He didn't know that. He was actually almost certain that Odysseus was dead but that part in the back of his head was not yet leaving him in peace which is why he needed Athena's guidance
Which brings me to the next part; Athena In Epic Athena appears to...give Telemachus the boost to fist-fight the suitors for some reason and mind you he still gets his ass handed at him! It made it seem as Telemachus's only problem was that he didn't have the guts or skills to fight the suitors and Athena gave him a solution! (potentially a message to stand up against bullies for teenagers? Perhaps but still I felt it massively undermined Telemachis's situation in the book) As I have answered to another person around here, Telemachus's problem was that the suitors claimed the law of hospitality and named themselves ODYSSEUS'S guests. Telemachus could not yet take over as king and he had no power to send them away. Plus he was plundered by doubt about his own inheritence. What Athena did was not to make Telemachus a fighter for he already was (we see how well he stands against them at the side of his father in the Odyssey) she came to encourage him to find out on his own.
Arguably the trip of Telemachus was a mirror counterpart of Odysseus's but instead of a trip that makes you lost like Odysseus was lost, it was a trip for self-discovery. Mind you, both the trip of Odysseus and the trip of Telemachus are cognitive trips; both characters learn in them and come in contact with places. Psychologically the trip allows Telemachus to escape this boarderline toxic grief in his home and explore the world. Also find out on his own information about his father. Now, arguably he never really finds out about his father's whereabouts for certain apart from Menelaus's vision but there is something he definitely gets out of his trip that is not talked about enough;
He finds out he REALLY is the son of his father and he gets information about what kind of man he was!
He hears from friends that fought with him how similar he looks to him; not just from his closed and secluded environment but of people outside his circle and his known people that he looks like him and they also give him information about him. No more the random comments the suitors he hated say or his sad mother who could either idealize his father to escape her grief or the loyal slave Euryclea who adored the family naturally like a mother; now it was also friends and known people of Odysseus that speak about him Telemachus is double-checking his information! Thus coming home much more confident on his inheritence and his own destiny and duty
Arguably the Odyssey is as much Telemachus's story as it is Odysseus's. Telemachus was in one way a spectrum of Odysseus; fighting a different type of war; losing himself in a different type of sadness. His story was a story of coming of age not a story of a goddess that teaches him how to stand up against bullies. Telemachus already does that in the Odyssey by calling the council. Arguably he was alays standing against the suitors but his position did not allow him to do something drastic! I think just like many things Epic missed this by a mile; reducing Telemachus's profound grief, sadness and uncertainty to an average teenage escapism story rather than the fact that Telemachus had no luxury or energy for escapism, Athena's advice for self-discovery to the average "raise your fists and fight your bullies" story ignoring the deep cultural details that led Telemachus to that tight spot in the first place and of course it completely abandoned the importance of Telemachus's trip which could be a subject of a movie on its own! (Quite frankly Telemacheia covers more chapters in the Odyssey than Odysseus's own flashback! It covers 5 rhapsodies of the Odyssey while Odysseus's story covers 3-4)
I hope this answers some questions! I will be happy to elaborate more.

I feel we are all super mean to the reader with Siren Vil??? Are they actually stupid or is it just that they canât understand whatâs going on? Which is kinda valid considering their situation?
I mean it has to be hard for them, right? Not only do they have trouble communicating with THEIR world since they are almost 100% deaf, but then you have the extreme cultural differences of trying to communicate with someone who exists in what is basically from a completely DIFFERENT world (part of your world reference anyone?).
I just feel like, while they may not be a genius or anything, itâs kind of mean to be expecting them to know whatâs going on when they have so much working against them. Weâre calling them stupid for not understanding that the necklace was a courting gift and that the siren would come back for them⊠why would they think that?
They could tell the necklace meant more to the siren than they thought it should have and it made the siren more friendly, but why would that equate to what is basically marriage and never leaving them behind? And the reader knows the siren wants to get back to his pod really badly. While they became friends and got attached, that wouldnât mean he would come back to help the reader. Of course the reader is going to see a ship and try to get off of where they were marooned.
As dumb as the reader CAN be sometimes (like when they took a bite of the cooked crab without removing its shell đ€Šââïž) I really donât think theyâre THAT stupid. Theyâre just⊠on the level of someone who was probably an uneducated kid when they snuck aboard a pirate ship and never looked back and now theyâre an adult. You mentioned in one chapter I believe that Riddle taught them to read I think? Or something?
I LOVE this story, donât get me wrong. At all. Ever. I adore it.
The fact that Iâm even here hanging out on the authorâs blog shows how much I love it - and your other writing. I guess itâs just been getting to me a little how we all seem to slam Siren Vilâs reader so much. Maybe Iâm just making mountains out of molehills. Maybe youâre just being sarcastic and Iâm missing the cues because Iâm neurodivergent and I do that sometimes. If so Iâm sorry.
To end on a good note, Iâm really happy youâre back and are doing better. I know how much brains can suck. If your demons are too mean to you, just send Reaper Rook after them. Heâll take care of them for you, Iâm sure of it! đđ€
I think itâs mostly said out of love, like how when you pick up a cat to give it cuddles and call it a stinky lil garbage gremlin even though you would die for that creature. The Reader in this is someone I try to write as having inconsistent levels of intelligence. Great planner, great at setting goals and reaching them, but TERRIBLE emotional intelligence all around. Not just in Siren Language. Just overall is blind to a lot going on around them. And yes, the added layer of communication difficulties certainly donât help, but this is a reader I fully see as one who even *if* they had super sight, hearing, and intellect would still be missing the point of things simply because theyâre stubborn in their perception and lock onto that One Thing rather than being willing to see the bigger picture. Even when the evidence is staring them right in the face. Which is why we lovingly call them a big ol doofus.

How would sleeping with the TCE members go? Like whoâs down for tangled under the blankets cuddles or what horrible mishaps are gonna happen if I want a sleep over? I imagine sleeping with Gallon would be like waking up half embedded in slime or with him practically melted into the bed. Krulu would either be like being bundled up in his arms the whole night or he sleeps like a vampire with his arms folded laying face up lol. I donât think Frank-E sleeps really so maybe he just plays like â3 hour white noiseâ sounds while he watches you sleep. Youâve mentioned a few times that Patches would get handsy but somehow I feel like heâs clingy as hell in his sleep much to his embarrassment (if the undead even sleep?)
Most of them don't sleep as much as humans do.
Gallon doesn't like to sleep in actual beds. He had one, in the little apartment he calls his own, but it's for the comfort of any guests, usually. Slimes have different beds, which are usually just modified tubs really. Meant to be able to safely contain them and also be mixed with water. He would try to lull you sleeping with him this way. You won't get wet, he'll encase you and leave open room for your face, all you'll feel is the slight sway of warm water.
Morell has a fucking obnoxious hold of you. While you're lucky he doesn't just turn and crush you, his arms are always either clutching you to him or holding onto something of yours. It's hard to break that hold, harder still when his only response to movement is to tighten that grasp. He sleeps with an amount of tension in his body that feels unnatural.
While Grimbly will spend some time napping with you in bed, worming himself into the little spoon and feeling you cover his body with yours, he's guaranteed to eventually weasel out and take it to the ceiling, or the rail he's gotten placed over the bed. So you might wake up panicked because he's not beside you, making enough noise to alert the bat, and screaming when two magenta orbs peek at you from above.
Santi might grab onto places he's not supposed to, but he's not a sleep-humper, funnily enough. You just might wake up with him breathing softly, clearly asleep, but his right hand has curled under you to stick you to him by the genitals. Sometimes his teeth can feather over your skin, but not often, as the horns force him to sleep with his head facing up. He likes to fall asleep with your weight on top of him. Does his cock stir? Maybe, but it's also just purely comfortable.
Patches will take the time to fondle you briefly, if you haven't let him touch you yet. But so would many others in this list. He needs extremely little rest, so most of the time he's not even sleeping beside you. Probably either trying to keep Stitches at bay or just watching you. He might set his head down nearby to make it easier to cuddle. A lot of his time is spent feathering over your warm skin and skating his fingers through your curves. Drawn to the warmth of life, you could wake up with him glued to you, occasionally.
Vinnel tends to starfish. He too would prefer to sleep in a slime bed, but he can't, so he usually just finds very bizarre sleeping positions that hit the spot that particular night. Sometimes he'll slap you with his limbs, other times he just rolls around the bed and you wake up with him upside down clinging to your legs. Don't nudge him too much, he'll probably react with his own slumbering shoves. Although sometimes unpleasant to sleep with, his tail does often find itself around your own limbs.
Nebul isn't much of a "rest in the same bed" type. In fact, he usually only rests in an armchair. But to humor a good pet's request, he might. He can stand very still and be very quiet, so that's good at least. You're held firmly but not oppressively like Morell. He prefers to have you rest your head on his chest. Like Patches, the wraith isn't actually sleeping for 90% of the time.
Belo will insist to stand watch over you, but can be made to relent. He prefers to sit up on the bed and have you in his grasp, shielded by a protective cocoon made of his wings. Although he can eventually doze off, one of his eyes periodically opens to take unconscious stock of his surroundings. You're the one that's likely to grope here, as angels are very soft and cozy, Belo guiltily enjoys the way you squeeze and pet him in certain stages of your sleep cycle.
Sybastian would frankly prefer to have you sleep in his mouth. He promises he won't bite you to pieces or swallow you, otherwise the mimiclings wouldn't trust him either. But he can also just be the bed, which is a favored alternative. While Syb doesn't shift much, he does often form his hands and use them to trap you to the bed in a gangly but familiar hold. This becomes a problem when you want to leave in the morning.
Fank-e is a terrible alternative to cuddle against, which is why he'll wrap you in a blanket burrito before any sort of contact. He's learned he leaves harsh imprints on human skin. While he can and will play any sound you like, he'll take the opportunity to also recharge at some point. His grip is calibrated to not be broken by human force, but to instead jolt him "awake" if it senses too much pressure.
Krulu is weirdly fascinating in the sense that he doesn't just lay down to sleep. He can sleep standing, or crouched to the ground. When he does demand your presence, the siadar will cover you in his six arms and usually hold you to his chest. Sometimes his neck. It sounds like it might feel uncomfortable, but as soon as sleep takes him, it'll take you too. He doesn't sleep all that often, so most of the time, this doesn't really happen at all, and he decides when you need to sleep instead.

mtl enha who'd be more into serious relationship ? đ„°
MTL - who prefers serious relationships - Enhypen
Sunghoon
Jay
Niki
Jungwon
Heesung
Jake
Sunoo
Sunghoon and Jay's energy are more like "I want something stable, even in chaotic times where nothing is set in stone I want to have this one person in my life who will always be here for me even if everything else is burning around me" Hmm although jay would be more open to go on dates, like multiple ones, to get to know xzy better and to see if they are compatible if so he would go on more dates with the person and become a couple if it feels right, if not he would accept that it's just not meant to be and move on - going on dates with someone else. Not necessarily within a short time range, his career seems more important to him, but he kinda has the mindset of 'this could be the one this time!' You know? Kinda hopeful for himself, he doesn't want to accidentally miss his s/o also more open to look for love, he wants love in his life.
Meanwhile sunghoon is a bit more picky on that, he doesn't go on dates and if he does it's rarely, I can see him not really having the energy for this unless he is really interested in a person and wants to get to know them for real. So he is more likely to turn down date's if he doesn't already feel interested at least in some type of way. He has the mindset of "if it's meant to be it will happen regardless" also believes more in fate and soulmates, that there is always a way that his romantic soulmate will find him somehow and if necessary more than once. His energy is telling me that he is insecure and in his low moments he even thinks 'would they even love me the way I am right now?' Talking about that, another reason why he rarely goes on dates is also because he doesn't want to date or even become a couple with someone who only likes him for his fame or his looks - this boy has been asked out many many times in his life, even before he became an idol, he is aware that there are people, regardless if it's fans or someone in the same industry as him, who literally only want him for his public persona, his looks or his fame but he doesn't want that, he wants someone who will like him for his personality and he says that's not as smooth as it might seem but I won't get into this further. Sunghoon would also like his parents to approve of whoever he will end up with, it seems important to him at least that's his mindset for now.
Niki is similar to jay and sunghoon, he also wants to find the one and wants to feel loved while giving love back, he is more likely to turn dates down too but might ask someone out if they catch his eye - especially with some sort of talent, like dancing. He is a bit unsure what exactly he wants yet, might be attracted to different kind of people (so for example he doesn't prefer only cute girls/boys or only sexy ones) it's like everyone is different so they can have a different charm and whatever suits them he will be attracted to them rather for themselves than their style - and of course the personality too although he might prefer someone who's a bit calmer/cooler vibe than someone who's very extroverted and loves spotlight (not saying he wouldn't be interested in someone who's extroverted as long as it's not too much)
Jungwon would prefer a serious relationship too, one thar can last a few years, but he also doesn't want to settle down too fast? So if he looses feelings or something happens within the relationship that lasted years then he wouldn't mind breaking up and moving on instead of trying to fix something that's too broken to fix. He definitely wants to make more experiences and therefore is more open for dates, might as well get a bit touchy if the setting and everything else feels right (he doesn't mean sexual things though, especially not on the first nor second date) his energy is also telling me that he is the type who would be interested in both - fans and other idols / someone who's a public person
Heesung, Jake and sunoo are the type who don't want anything serious yet - though if it happens they will stay. What I'm hearing is "I'm still young" so they definitely want to date around more and are also more willing to get into short term relationships knowing they won't last as long as it feels good and right in the moment. Sunoos energy seems a bit hurt, his relationships doesn't always end on good terms despite that he knows that it wasn't meant to last, but the way of the break up sometimes leave a small scar on his soul. He's a bit different from Jake and Heesung in this because he wouldn't actually mind being in a longterm relationship, he definitely wants someone stable in his life who he can genuinely open up to and be just himself also someone he can tell anything to, who won't kiss and tell, so definitely someone trustworthy - but for some reason it just doesn't want to turn out the way he wants to. "Why does everyone get a happy ending but not me?" He is emotionally very vulnerable, he wants someone who will last although he thinks sometimes like "even if this one won't last, I want to be happy for aa long as I can until it ends" he also gets crushes quite easily, not serious ones but still. From those two he is definitely more open for a serious relationship, but can handle shorter ones good as long as they don't end messy/painfully because he can move on and he knows his own worth and believes almost manifests someone new into his life. Jake and Heesung are similar to each other in this sense because they would prefer making more experiences (sexually as well) with more than just one or two people in their life. Definitely both of them are more open for dates, one of them might even find it a bit thrilling to kiss without knowing thr other one's name yet, only finding it out afterwards. Looks and talents is what would sway them, personality would make them stay. Both of them the types to get into short-term relationships without regrets (as long as it doesn't end messy/painful) "I'll marry the one o truly love when I will be ready, but right now I am not, it will take a few years and until then I want to be free" also both of them seem to prefer being more experienced than their future spouse's, kinda want to hear how good they are right at their first time with their fs (no idea why they wanted me to tell this but ig I appreciate the honestyđ)
This was kind of a bit chaotic but very real, no sugarcoating. This was done intuitively although afterwards I checked with my tarot cards to make sure I didn't misinterpret any message of their energies đ«¶đ» some were more willing to talk than others and I won't force anyone to say more than they want, therefore some members sections are a bit shorter and some a bit longer đ©”

Silence
He was SO wrong.
Chapter 2.
Goodbye, my Canadian Swetheart.
Cw: Kidnapping, Straight up torture, Various cruel and unusual punishments, Descriptions of pain and wounds, Angst, Loss of healing factor, loss of voice, guilt, insecurity, crying, hostage situation.
Everything hurts.
Except.. It was a different type of pain. The kind he wasn't used to. Yeah, he's been used to the hilt and left out to dry in his own puddle of his blood before, but he laughed and spit out his own tooth that day. His large intestines hanging out of his body, soaking in the dirty rain like a fucked up steak marinade only to fillet the asshole who dared touch him without a safe word.
But not today. He wasn't healing today... or.. yesterday? What day was it? How long has he been here? Either way, his cells were on strike, holding up microscopic signs with âHey ho we won't go!â written on them.
A small snort came from his nose, the tiniest smile at the thought. You could torture him yeah but the only thing you're going to do is make him more crazy. Even he knew that. Hell! Everyone knew that!
So what was he trying to accomplish? I mean really, how much more fucked up could he make him?
He couldn't see much. The light above him is off the majority of the time, leaving him in complete darkness but never silence, the screams coming through the wall acting as white noise by now. But at the moment? It was on, swinging from the upstairs movement.
While he wasn't 100% sure? He thought the musty, mildew covered walls and how cold his toes were meant he was in a basement. How many flight's down? A million for all he knew. He had no clue how he even got here.
So now, as he sits, strapped and chained to the chair (that was bolted to the floor by the way) he is staring at the blank wall, studying each crack, wondering where each one came from.
They reminded him of the veins that came out of Logan's arms when he was really pissed off and red with anger. He found himself thinking about Logan a lot down here, his body heavy and his neck throbbing from the collars around it. The fucks had double collared him, keeping him tame and well behaved.
So what else was he supposed to do? Call out in hopes someone would slip from their training and come give him an opportunity to escape? But the top collar was too tight, two holes burned in the side of his neck from all the shocking with each noise he made louder than a whisper. Even a cough set it off.
He wondered, if he could speak now, would Logan come to him? Would he even hear him? Would he spare some time if he called? To come rescue his pathetic ass yet again?
Wade knew Logan loved him deep down, but he wondered if Logan even knew he was missing by now.. did he even care? Why SHOULD he care honestly? He was smart enough to know that Mr. Howlett was probably on the couch right now, unexpectedly waiting for him to come homeâŠ
And Honestly? He didn't blame him not one bit if he became buried deep in his memory, something that won't spark his attention until it's far too late.
He wondered- Would anyone come to his funeral? Would they even be able to find the body? Would Logan tell their friends about him? All the sweet gentle touches they shared? Each little date and stupid joke? Would he tell them the truth? Or would he lie and tell them how he saw him instead of how Wade saw himself..
He wondered if he could see the burning hole inside of him, that determination to keep himself from falling apart, how hard he was trying to be the best Deadpool for him.
Trying to prove to the world that he wasn't someone to wave a stick at, that he was a top notch hero just like the rest of them.. Could Logan see that?
Sure, the merc work paid well but what it did to his heart wasn't pretty. His morals have always been flexible. Too flexible.
Wade wanted to be a good person. It's why he listened to the stupid X-men to begin with. Stupid fucking virgin Colossus. Why did he have to go and make him feel like he was worth something? Like that 4 to 5 moments bullshit would actually work out in his favor?
He raised his hopes for nothing. Made him think that he too could be a hero that crowds cheered for when they saw him and kids would point him out and go âGASP!! Mommy it's Deadpool!â and he'd go âDamn right kid! Stay in school or.. whatever.â
Before kicking some major ass in front of them, to further prove just how cool he truly was. This was the only idea that was keeping him together at the seams.
To impress The Wolverine. HIS wolverine. To show him that he deserved to be on the team. One that's well respected and the government has no choice but to call HIM for help. Just a guy with regenerative cancer who really liked guns.
Well⊠now the ladder was only true but still. His point stood. Unlike him, whose legs were dull and numb from sitting so long in this piss scented concrete singular cell.
Tears came to his eyes as a terrible thought crossed his mind. How would he see him as a good hero if he would never see him again?
Now, he sits here, wondering about him.
He wished he could tell him what to do. Logan was good at this kind of thing. He was good at keeping calm and telling him what to do when he felt like this, when his body betrayed him with such unbearable pain. He would hold him and kiss him, tell him everything would be alright and somehow it always was.
Logan always made everything alright.
Logan has worked so hard to teach him how much he loved him, show him how to water it until it grew. And with just a bit of water and TLC, His rosey heart turned into something incredibly beautiful that he could hold in the palm of his big calloused hands once it blossomed.
Even with all its thorns, there was nobody better than him that he wanted to spend his (apparently) no longer eternal life with. Tears sting his dehydrated dry eyes as they drip down his cheeks, squeezing his eyes tightly shut, wishing this was all just a dream. But still he had the same request..
If only he could see Loganâs face again before he died⊠he'd be happy..
The heavy metal door opens, Sending just enough excitement through his body to sit his head up, looking at the man who was slowly walking towards him. Was he wrong?! Did he doubt him too much? Has he come to rescue him princess style and blow this place to smithereens while walking away in slow motion?
All he knew? There was only one other man that he wanted to see right now..
â..Logan?â

5#-> đ: a letter has arrived from satoru gojo.
dear y/n.
heyy cutie.. i hope you like the gifts i got you. i know this isnât the easiest way to communicate, but it's the only way right now. things have gotten.. complicated. i don't have much time to spare.
iâm writing this quickly and short, because things are moving fast, and i need to make sure you understand whatâs going on. things are about to get messy, i know it, so iâm doing what i can to keep it all from falling apart.
the whole thing with the transport barrier and the crowd of civilians, none of that was going to be easy. but i didnât.. fully expect this. i mean.. i did, but you know what i mean. i didnât expect the king of cursed spirits to come together like this, or for the sheer fucking chaos that would unfold once sukuna was set loose.
and if anyone is going to deal with him, itâs got to be me. it always had to be me.
iâm doing this because itâs necessary, because i need to, and if anyone is going to deal with him, itâs got to be me. itâll always be me. youâll understand when the time comes. hopefully the students will explain.
i know youâve always believed in me, hell, iâve built my whole persona around being the unbeatable, invincible sorcerer. but iâve learned something over the years: no matter how strong you are, no matter how much you try to control everything around you, there are things that will always get away from you. and iâve come to terms with the fact that sukuna isnât someone i can just 'neutralize' in the usual way. this time, itâs different. this fightâs different. and if iâm being honest, part of me knew that from the very beginning.
iâm sorry for the things i never told you. iâm sorry for the times i acted like everything was a joke, like i was invincible and nothing could hurt me. i didnât want you to see how often i was just faking it, pretending like i had all the answers. the truth is, there were moments where i was terrified. terrified of the responsibility, terrified of what would happen if i ever failed. so i did what i always do, i covered it with jokes, with ridiculous stunts, and by being 'the strongest.' it was easier that way, wasnât it? easier for me, easier for everyone else.
but i guess thatâs where i was wrong. you deserved more than that. you deserved to see all the versions of me. so, for all the times i let you down, for all the times i acted like i wasnât just as scared and confused as anyone else.. iâm sorry. really, i am.
the truth is, iâve never really had a plan for how to handle all this. the higher-ups wanted me to handle everything, like i was some kind of god who could solve all their problems. but iâve always known the worldâs broken, y/n. itâs always been broken. and now, itâs my turn to do something about it. even if i donât come back from this, at least iâll know i gave it everything i had.
sukuna isnât just some 'big bad guy' for me to beat. heâs the only thing standing in the way of everything. i canât just let him continue. i canât let him tear down what little everyone managed to hold down together. and if that means putting myself on the line.. then so be it. itâs what i have to do.
i donât expect you to understand fully, but i need you to know this: if something happens, if i donât make it back, just know that iâm okay with it. this was always the risk. iâve always known that. but i want you to keep going. i want you to keep fighting. youâve got the strength to carry on. i wouldnât have left if I didnât believe that, you already know that baby.
so, if something happens to me, if i donât come back, please, donât let it break you. keep going. keep fighting. and donât forget that i did what i know was the best choice. i donât have regrets about the choices i made. i just regret that it had to end this way.
i donât know how to say goodbye, and i donât want to. but whenever this is it, i need you to know that i love you more than i ever thought i could, i didn't really think i could love anyone after suguru. you were my greatest love. and iâm sorry i never got to say that to your face one last time.
anyways, iâm rambling now. just know this.. if i donât make it back, iâm grateful for every second we had, for everything. youâve meant more to me than you know.
from, your glorious blue eyed king.
p.s. take care of yourself. keep your head up. and donât forget baby, i was the strongest. and i hope your heart will be the strongest to stomach all this.

very important official zine stuff for real this time guys please spread this around
we realized we havenât asked you what you want this zine to be, so here is poll with some different options for things we could do, but this still wonât set things in stone cause weâre aware that weâre working with a relatively small albeit amazing awesome and extremely appreciated audience, but itâll give us a good idea for what direction you want the zine to go in.
some examples of what we mean for added coherence, please read before voting unless you wanna be like that guy in the Simpsons movie:
an eras tour zine (yes this is a Taylor swift joke shut up if youâre judging us youâre wrong) would be like different pieces dedicated to each, for lack of a better word, âthingâ that Joel has done. @/inthelittlezine is a great example of this concept, except the mod has far better organizational skills than we ever could hope to
tourism brochure would be like we pick a specific thing Joel, such as esmp 1 or 2, or x life, or one of his hardcore/survival worlds (I havenât listed Hermitcraft season 10 cause thatâs still in progress but if you guys really really wanna, that too), and make an in universe guide to it expanding upon the lore and characters and builds and stuff. @/scarland-artbook is an amazing example of this, though of course we would be a much smaller scale of a project.
do you wanna tell a story? Or ride our bikes around the halls? We canât help with the second one, weâre not very sporty people, but this option is both the most difficult and dangerous to the success of the zine, and the one that intrigues me specifically the most. Like, guys, I know Iâm polling this, but Iâm secretly hoping that this one wins. Like all the hoping. Ever. But Iâm not gonna just say yeah letâs do this because if like only three people also wanna this zine will never get made and I will be really, really sad. This option is basically do we wanna take something Joel has done and work together to create an original universe/story based off of it, each contributing a small part of the story in comic or writing form. Unless youâve been living under a rock and/or this post broke containment sorry if it did I assure Iâm usually mostly sane, you probably know where Iâm shamelessly stealing taking inspiration from. We heart you @/hotguycomiczine. If we went with this we would obviously create our own universe and storyline, and weâd try to base it off of one of Joelâs characters if possible. Also, if we went with this, weâd start the mod and application process and stuff and once we knew everyone who was going to be in the zine then weâd all get together and start working on the story, and this is the part Iâm worried about because if weâre all stumped then I guess the zine is out of luck and Iâd be sad. Also even if we did do this, like preemptively temper your expectations I am no where near as good as the legends at hotguycomiczine at organization and promotion and story writing and all that good stuff. However, if you have an idea for a story and want to share, send us an ask cause we might just end up using it.
I think the last two are mostly self explanatory.
please reblog for reach.

You might've answered something like this before but how do you pick colours for your art? Your choices are always so striking, visually interesting and delightful. I would love to learn your ways. (also hi)
WAAHHHH THANK YOU <3 <3 (also hi!!) first of all i do have a post from quite a while back with some general tips that you can check out, but my process has changed a bit since then so i can definitely elaborate a little bit more!
observation
this first tip is not very straightforward (sorry) but something i try to do is pay attention to the colors and lighting in the real world and try to remember what moments really stick with me. like when you're watching the sunset and the light from the sky washes everything in pink and tints the buildings orange, or when it's dusk and the light blue of the sky contrasts with the dark blues of everything that's in shadow, or looking in a lake and all the greens, browns, and blues mix together in rich jewel tones
i try to keep track of these things & the emotions they make me feel (almost like taking notes in a mental journal) so i can try referencing them when i want a certain drawing to feel a certain way. AGAIN this is really not straightforward and i don't really know how helpful it actually is...? but i find that observation can be a really helpful tool and i find myself doing it a lot
references
sort of the same as the last point BUT using preexisting photos and artwork instead! this one is more straightforward because you can actually reference them as you are drawing. i said this in the other post i made but i think that looking at other images and asking yourself "how is the artist/photographer using the colors to make it look this way? how do i recreate that?" and using that as a way to study their use of colors can be really helpful. if you find a drawing that has cool colors, try using those colors in your own drawings and see how they look!
that said, i would try to avoid color-picking things directly because i find that if you try choosing them on your own you 1) gain a better understanding of what you're doing 2) have more control over what you're doing and 3) you can "push" your colors in ways you might not if you color-pick directly
play with contrasting hues
i think this might just be a personal preference, but i find that i'm not as big of a fan of monochromatic images, and i prefer it when drawings utilize a wide variety of hues. this goes especially for ones that implement more contrast in the hues (not necessarily where the colors have more contrast in value, but rather contrast as in they're further apart on the color wheel)
for example, in this drawing, everything is washed in green light except for rose's skin, which is a very saturated reddish-brown. this is sort of what i mean by "pushing" the colors because, in a realistic setting, a person sitting in green lighting is going to have a more greenish-looking skin tone (like in this drawing). you can see this in how the whites of the drawingâher hair and eyesâare greenish, but i made the stylistic choice to not do the same with her skin to create contrast between the two hues
i edited the one on the bottom to match the green-ness of the rest of the image, and the effect is pretty noticeable! green light makes people look less lively, almost sickly (which is good to use if that's the feeling you want to show, of course)
another small example of this is in this drawing where i use a couple of different hues in davesprite's body. overall, it registers as orange, but i like to ever-so-slightly introduce a bit of green to contrast with the orange, letting the lightest values tip into the greens instead of stopping at yellow to contrast with the muted red in the wings. the darkest values are purple, which also contrasts with the yellow parts. the only hue missing from this image is blue! the colors are all still analogous, and the greens and purples are a lot less saturated than the oranges and yellows, so nothing clashes and overall leads to a more subtle contrast
the colors on the top are the ones from the image, while the ones on the bottom i see used a lot more commonlyâwhich isn't a bad thing! i just think it looks nice to use a wide range of hues because of the way they complement each other :)
other than these strategies, my process varies greatly depending on what i'm working on, so it's difficult to get any more specific than this (unless you'd like to ask about the process of a specific drawing!) there isn't really any step-by-step method i use for every drawing i make, usually i am doing something different each time based on the goals i have for the project

Hey! Any advice on writing multi chaptered fics or just longer stories?
I feel like I'm okay for like snippets but have no idea how to write the middle of a story or move a character or story from point a to point b.
And asking you because you're writing is phenomenal and I'd love some advice.
(But if no brain space for advice I totally get that too and feel free to hide this ask or something)
(Anyway great updates on boundless and the one shot Brimbrond)
Sorry for taking so long to respond to this! I just wanted to take some good time to gather my thoughts because oh man oh boy I am a bit of a nerd about plot structure, even if I pants it a lot of the time -- because middles and structure absolutely plagued me when I was a beginner and so I spent a long, long time studying it and breaking it down.
I'm going to start with some very, very basic advice and then get into some more specific stuff. So let's talk first about how to structure a long-form plot first.
DISCLAIMER: this is how I personally structure plots. More often than not I veer off my own track. And this is a very western way of structuring a plot. It's well worth looking into how storytellers from around the world structure their work because it can vary wildly (Miyazaki is a great example of this). Take this with a grain of salt. It's a guideline which I find helpful. This is going to get very, very long. Bear with me:
When I'm first thinking about how to create a plot around a story I want to tell, this is the process I walk myself through, and it tends to work about 75% of the time for the stories I like to tell (I'm not much of a thriller or mystery writer and those tend to have different kinds of structure). Main recipe is as follows:
Status quo - establish the setting and the character. Do this by the middle-to-end of chapter one, preferably. You can get away with drawing it out a bit in sci-fi or fantasy works that require more worldbuilding, but try not to.
Inciting incident - I won't tell you to start in media res, as that varies from writer to writer and story to story. Generally you want to have this somewhere in chapters 1-3. Say we're talking about LOTR - I'd say the inciting incident is when Bilbo goes invisible at his birthday party and leaves for retirement. Everything sort of snowballs from there (Gandalf confirming this is The One Ring, the Ring being passed to Frodo, the adventure beginning, etc. etc). This is where your character can lose something, or be confronted with a huge problem, or gain some new information. This is the point where your story really picks up.
Point of no return - your character has been presented with a problem or is put in a situation and now they have to decide what to do about it. Sometimes characters choose to run away, or choose inaction. It's up to you and your character as to what they do next.
The annoying part - the most helpful way I've ever found to think about middles is in terms of a series of decisions and consequences. Your character must decide what to do (or try to get what they want), and this will then come with consequences to those decisions. I ignore a lot of writing advice because writers seem to be very cagey about how they compose middles and plots for some reason, but the one piece I heard that helped me was: "What does my character want, and what stops them from getting it?" -- and this can be anything, right? Frodo wants (has to) take the Ring to Mordor. Luke wants to learn to be a Jedi like his father. Inspector Poirot needs to catch the murderer. Odysseus wants to return home. Each of these characters are going to make a series of decisions toward their goal, and they may be working from incomplete information, or bad paradigms, or racing against the clock, or against impossible odds. They're going to make mistakes. Over and over and over again. The middle is a series of decisions, consequences for those decisions, and obstacles (more on that later).
Point of no return 2, electric boogaloo (i.e. the actual midpoint to the story) - the part right before the climax -- the climax IS NOT the midpoint of your story, nor is it the end. This is your midpoint where Everything Fucking Sucks. Your character's back is against the wall. They have to change, or fail.
Paradigm shift: your character learns something new, or develops in some crucial way that leads to:
The climax/confrontation: 3/4 - 7/8th of the way through your plot. Frodo decides to keep the ring. Luke uses the force to blow up the death star. Anakin's fear and the manipulation from Palpatine overtakes him and he turns to the dark side. Inspector Poirot gets his last crucial piece of information and gathers everybody together for the Big Reveal. Odysseus gets home and chases the suitors out of his house. Etc. Etc. This is that Big Point in the story we all think as the most important or crucial point (but it's not. That's the key here. THE most important point is the whole middle of how we got here).
Consequences and paradigm shift 2 electric boogaloo: varies from story to story, but this is the fallout of the last decision or confrontation. Your character may reflect on what they've learned. The killer goes to jail. Frodo returns to the Shire and it's saved, but not for him. The journey your character has been on has irreparably altered them, or the world around them -- for better or for worse.
Resolution: the place where you land the story ;) what is the final impression you want your readers to have of your character, or this world?
Alright so that's all kind of nebulous. Let me give you a slightly more specific form of this plot structure that I use pretty often, because I almost exclusively write character and relationship-driven stories since that's what interests me most:
So most of this looks much the same (the inciting incident is some kind of meetcute. The characters then have to decide if they want to have some kind of relationship -- I like to name this part the callback). Then we have a whole weird squishy section of building interest and tension, before once again we have The Big Fight (darkest before the dawn or what have you), before one or both characters have some kind of paradigm shift, they confess their feelings (or resolve the fight or whatever), and the security of the relationship is established -- happy go lucky times, everything is beautiful and nothing hurts.
So the middle here is of course still squishy and nebulous, but the focus here is still on "What decisions are the characters making? What are the consequences of those decisions? What are they learning, and how do they respond to it?" Maybe the tension is in one character being more reticent, while the other is more open. Maybe the tension is a sexual tension (will they, won't they?). Maybe a character is working off of incomplete information, or a misunderstanding, and that needs to be cleared up before the relationship (or even their own personal growth) can progress (both Elrian and Thalionel in Stars and Boundless Sky follow this pattern). The middle is a push-pull between your character's desires and outside forces that are stopping them from getting what they want, or achieving what they want to achieve.
So okay, that's all well and good. That's basic plot structure. Let me get into my thought process about middles specifically:
Begin with your ending in mind. I do not mean that you need to have like the whole resolution to your story fleshed out. If you're that kind of writer, great! But if you're more of a pantser like me, then that can be a big ask. Instead, ask yourself: what do I want my character to have learned by the end of the story? How do I want them to have changed, or grown? Do I want it to be for better, or for worse? Is there a specific plot goal you have in mind? (saving the world, or catching the murderer, solving the mystery, exorcizing the ghost, the couple getting together at the end, the found family finally gelling with each other, or whatever).
Once you have that thought in mind, now start to think about what your character might need to get from their starting point to their ending point. If it's a murder mystery, this is your information gathering section. You can lead your character to wrong or right conclusions. Have them make mistakes. Etc. etc. If it's a romance, this is where you create a string of scenes where the characters have opportunities to interact and learn more about each other (works for platonic slowburns, too). If this is a traditional hero's journey, this is where you plop in your actual journey.
Not to repeat this ad nauseum, but your middle is all about getting your character to your end goal, but in the most difficult way possible lmao. Let them make mistakes. Let them make bad decisions -- and then follow through with the consequences of those bad decisions. Give them bad information. This is where understanding your character's fundamental flaws becomes extremely important. Your entire plot, imo, stems from your character's fundamental flaws -- because ultimately that is what is going to slow them down the most from reaching their goal. Sure, you may have the big bad evil guy (bbeg), but we're not worried about him. That's an external factor and that's easy to drop in when you need a quick problem to place in front of your protagonist -- but that problem needs to be in service to your character or your worldbuilding. Teach them something. Give them an opportunity for growth. Aragorn needs to lead at Helm's Deep so he can inhabit his leadership role. The mountain pass of Caradhras needs to force the Fellowship through the mines so that Gandalf falls fighting the Balrog and comes back leveled up and ready to fight, and other characters in the fellowship have a chance to grow into their roles without relying on Gandalf for leadership. Your middle is all about crafting little opportunities for character growth, always while moving toward your end goal -- whatever that may be.
The paradigm shifts are crucial, and they can shift for better or for worse. It's up to you and your characters and the story you want to tell as to which it'll be.
If you're bored, your reader is bored. Only write what excites you, skip all the rest, and make it make sense at the end -- I'm so serious. Yes you need to add in breaks for pacing (like the whole Rivendell section in LOTR), but in those breaks still make sure that you're either expanding your worldbuilding, or giving your characters and opportunity for growth.
If you want to tell a really long (novel length) type of story, sideplots and alternate POVs are your best friend. They are structured exactly the same as a regular plot, they're just simpler or smaller and generally work in service to the main plot. Maybe there are side characters or side relationships you'd like to develop. Maybe there's a smaller mystery or a part of your worldbuilding you'd like to explore. Action plots can be side plots to romantic or platonic slowburn plots, just as much as it can be the other way around. And this is not something you need to structure out the gate. Just be curious and playful. Find points in your story that interest you, and explore them a bit. You'll find that they expand the story.
Biggest and best tip I can give you, when all is said and done, is to decide what kind of story you want to tell and then examine how other people are doing it. If you want to write a superhero story, pick out your favorites and look at how they're structured. If you want to write a mystery, same thing. If you're writing a romance or a drama, again -- same thing. Look at the pieces of fiction that you like, figure out what you like about it, and then apply it to your own work.
That's all the general advice off the top of my head. IDK how helpful this was lol. If you want more tips on middles I can try to look at it a bit more in depth, but to be quite honest middles are really what defines a genre. Romances have different middles to thrillers. Thrillers have different middles to mysteries. Mysteries have different middles to dystopian sci-fis. Etc. Etc. So take the general advice with a grain of salt and look more specifically at the genre of story that you're looking to tell.
Thanks for coming to my tedtalk <3

han jisung x fem!reader
synopsis: new nurse jisung struggles with constant mistakes under a tough but skilled mentor, but their relationship evolves as they both learn the value of patience and support.
wc: 3578 Ù©(ËáË*)Ù âĄ
a/n: iâm sorry but reader is kind of mean in this they make up for it though so donât worry. :>
Jisung was a bundle of nerves as he stood in the break room, eyes wide as the schedule for his first day of orientation was posted on the board. It was his second day at the hospital, fresh out of nursing school, and everything was still newâstill overwhelming. But today was different. Today, heâd be shadowing you.
He had heard a lot about you from the other nurses. You were experienced, patient, and always had a kind word for patients, even when the shifts got tough. And, he had to admit, you were prettyâreally pretty, in fact. The way you carried yourself, confident yet compassionate, was something he admired from a distance. The idea of working under you for the next few weeks filled him with both excitement and an inexplicable sense of nervous energy.
You were helping a nurse and adjusting your stethoscope when he saw you in the corridor. Jisung couldn't help but believe you seemed like someone who had it all together because you were calm and professional. He didn't. But he was determined to make an impression on you today. "Hey, Jisung," you called him as soon as you saw him standing outside the nurse's station. His heart skipped a beat when you gave him a brief smile. "Ready for your first shift?"
"Y-yeah, absolutely!" A bit too enthusiastic, he stuttered. "Iâm really excited to work with you." You gave him a clipboard after nodding and rearranging the papers in your palm. "All right, let's begin. You'll help with assessments today, and I'll show you the ropes." Jisung gave a hearty nod. He had to do his best, and he would. Especially with you, he didn't want to leave a negative impression. The beginning was fairly easy. You showed him how to take vitals, examine patient history, and do basic medical assessments.
Even though his hands were a little unsteady when he took his first set of vitals, Jisung made an effort to remain composed. He worked very hard to carry out your instructions precisely because he wanted to impress you. His hand slipped, though, and the cuff tightened too quickly just as he was ready to take a blood pressure measurement. When he fumbled with the stethoscope and knocked off the blood pressure cuff, the patient was shocked and sat up abruptly.
Shocked, Jisung blurted out, "I'm so sorry." "I didnât mean toâ" Your patience was already starting to run thin, so you let out a little sigh. "Jisung, you have to focus. This is what you've been trained for. Your nervousness shouldn't get in the way.â His face flushed slightly as he nodded. Although you weren't directly rude, your tone was very cutting. While he had only just begun, he was already making mistakes in front of you.
Later, in an effort to prove that he could manage the more challenging responsibilities, Jisung jumped in too soon when you were helping a patient move from their bed to a chair. He almost caused the patient to lose their balance since he miscalculated their level of mobility. "Jisung!" you yelled, protecting the patient from falling. Your tone was sharper than usual and you were obviously frustrated. "What were you thinking?â
Jisung's cheeks were burning. His words wouldn't come out, but he wanted to clarify that he was only trying to help. In his mind, he had failed miserably.
With a stutter, he said, "IâI just wanted to make sure everything was smooth," hardly meeting your eyes.
With a quick sigh, you squeezed the bridge of your nose. "You are not here to brag; you are here to learn. And ask for help if you're not sure."
Jisung nodded, his confidence fading away by the second. He thought he was an idiot. It always seemed to end badly when he tried to impress you. You left him in charge of seeing a few patients during your lunch break. Jisung made an effort to pay attention strictly to your instructions, but he was still having trouble. He accidentally knocked over a tray of medication when visiting a patient's room to see how they were doing, causing a mess all over the floor.
When you got there, he was crouching on the floor, frantically trying to collect the pills back into their bottles. "Are you kidding me?" you whispered to yourself. You wanted to roll your eyes, but you stopped yourself. It wasnât like he wasnât tryingâhe was just... constantly messing up. Jisung looked up at you and repeated, "I'm so sorry," in a tiny voice. "Iâll... Iâll clean it up."
Right now, you didn't have the energy to show kindness. You knelt beside him and helped him finish gathering up the pills, saying quietly, "It's okay." But you couldn't get rid of the gnawing annoyance. It was beginning to seem like his inexperience would make your day even more difficult, even though you knew it wasn't entirely his fault. The remainder of the shift followed the same pattern: Jisung made a lot of effort but was never successful. You were growing increasingly irritated as the day went on. Every mistake served as a reminder of his true lack of help, and you realized that you were becoming less helpful to him than you should have been.
You were worn out by the end of the day, and Jisung seemed to be as well. Even though he was still trying to keep himself composed, you could see how his shoulders drooped and his eyes averted from yours whenever you talked. "All right, Jisung. Before we wrap up, let's go over everything," you stated, sounding less patient than you had at the beginning of the day.
"okay," he mumbled.
You bit back a sigh. You didnât want to be harsh, but it was getting harder not to be. When you looked at him, his gaze was downcast, almost as if he were apologizing for existing. You felt a pang of guilt, but your frustration was louder.
"You need to be more careful tomorrow," you said sharply. "And stop trying so hard to impress me. Just... focus on learning, alright?"
Jisung nodded quickly, his face flushed with embarrassment. "Yeah, of course. IâIâll do better."
As you both clocked out, the shift ended in an uncomfortable silence. Jisung seemed to shrink even more under the weight of his failures, and you couldnât help but feel the distance growing between you two.
You hated that it felt this way, but you didnât know how to fix it, either. Maybe tomorrow would be better. Or maybe not.
Either way, it felt like you both had a long road ahead.
â
The hospital was bustling, the air thick with the usual sense of urgency. Jisung was trying his hardest to keep up, but it seemed like every step he took just led him to another mistake. He could feel the weight of your eyes on him every time he did something wrong.
Today was no different. You had asked him to distribute medications to a few patients, a task that shouldâve been routine, but his hands were shaking. He double-checked the names, he double-checked the medsâyet his nerves made everything feel ten times harder. Heâd just graduated, and he was still struggling to get his footing. He didnât want to mess up, especially not in front of you.
When Jisung reached a patient's room, he hesitated for a split second, but then quickly handed over the medication, thinking he had everything under control. The patient took the pill without hesitation, but there was something off about the whole exchange. The medication seemed to be for a completely different patient. He hadnât double-checked properly. Heâd gotten distracted.
By the time you came into the room, it was too late.
"Jisung!" you snapped, your tone piercing and brimming with anger. "What the hell are you doing? It's the wrong medication!â Eyes wide, he froze. The patient was confused, but you took action right away to clear the air. Damage had already been done when you hurried to get the medication and ensure the patient's safety.
"Why do I continue struggling with everything by myself?â With a loud voice that was a mixture of despair and rage, you went on, "Are you really going to keep making these simple mistakes?" "If youâre just going to mess everything up, maybe you should get out of the way and let someone else do the job properly."
He knew that the remarks were meant to shake him into action, yet they still pierced him. Still, Jisung felt small at the time. He was unable to look you in the eye. He muttered, "IâI'm sorry," but you were already turning to leave, your body seething in frustration.
The remainder of the day was a blur of mistakes, each one getting worse. Jisung had trouble focusing on anything. He was certain that he wasn't suited for this job and that he was failing at everything. He made a lot of attempts to gain your approval, but each time he failed, he made matters worse.
You assigned him a different nurse to shadow by the afternoon. When you said, "Go work with Felix today," you were abrupt. "Maybe youâll do better with him."
Jisung's heart fell.
Although Felix was nice, it was obvious that you had had enough of him because he was now being removed from your supervision. Trying to hide his disappointment, he nodded and went with Felix to the next patient room.
Felix had just as much experience as you did, if not more. In contrast to your direct, no-nonsense approach, he was patient and kind to Jisung. With his constant smiles, jokes, and easy explanations, he helped Jisung feel a little more comfortable. Nevertheless, the feeling that everything was falling apart continued.
You were on your way to the break room when you heard a low voice talking to someone as you passed the staff lounge. "Are you okay?" Felix's tone was polite and warm as he asked. In an attempt to mask what was happening, Jisung sniffed. "Yeah, just... itâs been a rough day." After a brief period of silence, Felix gently asked, "Do you want to talk about it?"
Jisung sighed deeply before his voice broke. "I just feel like I've ruined everything. Like I'm not worthy." Felix was silent for a while. A chair began to rustle, and soon Felix's voice could be heard once more. "You're new to this. Making mistakes is normal. But seem to be way too hard on yourself. What's happening?â Jisung hesitated, his words barely heard above a murmur. "I just wanted to show her that i was capable. I thought... I thought she was really nice. I thought she was pretty, too. I wanted to show her I could do this, you know? But everything Iâve done today, Iâve screwed up. I feel like Iâve let her down."
Felix's voice became even softer. "I know she's hard on you, Jisung, but it's not because she doesn't believe you can succeed. She knows you can, which is why she is pushing you. Don't be so hard on yourself. We've all been in your position. even her.â Trying not to cry, Jisung sniffed once more. "I just have the feeling that I might not be meant for this. I keep failing, even though I wanted to show her that I could manage it.â You were still while you stood in the hallway. As you listened to him, your heart hurt. He was just putting in a lot of effort. You were oblivious of the amount of pressure he had to put on himself to live up to your expectations. You hadnât realized how much your sharp words were hurting him.
He wasnât just a clumsy new nurse trying to find his footingâhe was someone who admired you, someone who wanted to prove he could be more than just a rookie.
You stood there for a long moment, conflicted. You didnât want to intrude, but at the same time, you knew that this was a moment for you to act. But you didnât step into the room. You just quietly continued with your day, letting the weight of his words sit with you.
The next morning, you woke up early, a quiet resolve settling over you. You couldnât just let the previous day end the way it did. You had been too harsh on Jisung, and it wasnât just the mistake heâd made. It was your reaction to it.
You grabbed a coffee on your way into the hospital, thinking of how to apologize. Youâd never been one to be overly sentimental, but this felt different. This wasnât about him being a bad nurseâit was about you, and how youâd let your frustration cloud your better judgment.
When you got there, Jisung was seated at the nurse's station, nervously shuffling papers with his head down. He appeared to have had little sleep, and you felt guilty once more. With your coffee in hand, you approached him and placed it silently on the counter in front of him. Startled, Jisung blinked up at you. With hesitation in his voice, he questioned, "Whatâs this?"
"A coffee," you replied plainly, your eyes gentle. Then you put a little note beside it. Despite your inability to find the correct words, you managed to write something that seemed sincere:
Iâm sorry about yesterday. You're doing good. Don't give up and don't be scared to ask for help when you need it. You're not alone. [y/n]
You said nothing else. You simply turned to go, but as you did so, you could feel his eyes on you, looking at you with a mix of appreciation and confusion.
â
After the coffee incident, everything felt different in the days that followed. You and Jisung's interactions had a slight change. Although Jisung first appeared hesitant, he immediately accepted your apologies with a small, shy smile. Because of the decreased tension between you two, you realized that you were more understanding of him, particularly when he was having trouble. You were actively working to further his potential, even though it wasn't like you hadn't seen it before. He cared about doing his work well, and it was evident that he wanted to get better. There existed a part of you that valued that.
Jisung was given a particularly challenging patient one morningâan elderly man who was rude and demanding. All morning, he had acted aggressively toward the staff, refusing to take his medication and making disparaging remarks about the standard of care. Jisung appeared to be struggling to control the situation as he still tried to get the hang of things. When the patient shouted louder, you could see his shoulders hunch and his eyes dart to you for support. You said softly, "Hey, it's okay," as you approached Jisung. "I'll take over for a while with Mr. Kim. You go out to take a break.â
Jisung paused, obviously attempting to manage things on his own, but as you looked at him encouragingly, he nodded appreciatively. You took charge of the situation gently as you entered the room in a composed, commanding manner. You recognized the patient's difficulties while simultaneously speaking in a respectful manner. You had mastered the delicate balance over the years, but Jisung was clearly still learning how to do it.
After a few minutes, the patientâs tone softened, and he grudgingly accepted his medication.
Once you were out of the room, Jisung gave you a small, grateful smile. "Thanks, I... I didnât know how to handle him. He was just so... rude."
"Youâll get there," you reassured him. "Itâs all part of the learning process. You donât have to take it personally when theyâre like that."
Jisung looked a little more confident, and you could see a sense of relief in his expression. "Iâll try not to next time."
"Good," you said, giving him a small pat on the shoulder. "But donât forgetâif youâre ever in doubt, donât hesitate to ask for help."
It wasnât just the patient encounters that changed, though. You started to make more of an effort to help him with the technical aspects of nursing as well. Whether it was giving him feedback on his charting, offering tips on patient interaction, or even just showing him how to use equipment more efficiently, you took the time to mentor him with more patience than before.
One afternoon, during a break, you pulled Jisung aside. You werenât sure what had made you want to do this, but you felt like it was time.
"Jisung," you said softly, taking a deep breath. "I wanted to talk to you for a second."
He looked up at you, a little startled. "Yeah? Is everything okay?"
You exhaled, feeling the weight of your previous actions. "Iâve been thinking a lot about how I treated you when you first started. And I just wanted to say that Iâm really sorry. I wasnât fair to you, and I shouldnât have snapped like that. Iâve been tough on you, and I feel terrible about it."
Jisungâs eyes softened immediately, and he gave a small, understanding smile. "Itâs okay. Really. I... I know Iâve been messing up a lot, and I get it. I think you were just frustrated. I get it."
You felt a sense of relief wash over you. "I donât want you to feel like youâre not doing well. You are doing well, Jisung. Youâre just new, and itâs okay to make mistakes. I shouldâve supported you better."
His smile widened a little. "Thank you. I really appreciate it. And... Iâm sorry too, for messing up so much. I want to be better."
You nodded, smiling back at him. "You are better. Every day you get better."
As the weekend approached, you found yourself getting more comfortable around Jisung. He wasnât just a trainee anymore; he was someone you could talk to, someone you actually enjoyed working with. There was still that initial spark of admiration youâd felt for him, but now it was tempered by mutual respect.
That Friday, as the end of your shift neared, you threw out an invitation you hadnât planned on making but had been thinking about all day.
You looked over at him and said, "Hey, a bunch of us are going to the bar after work," "Usually, Felix and I go with a few other nurses. Do you want to join us?â Jisung's eyes became a little wider. "Oh! Yes, of course, I would love to.â You said, "Good," with a tiny smile on your lips. "It will be fun. You deserve a break.â
That evening, you found yourself at the small bar that all the nurses and hospital staff frequented after shifts. The atmosphere was laid-back, a welcome contrast to the chaos of the hospital. You, Jisung, Felix, and a couple of other nurses sat around a table, talking about everything but work. The drinks flowed freely, laughter echoed around the room, and for the first time in days, you allowed yourself to relax.
You discovered you had a lot in common with Jisung, who was unexpectedly easy to talk to outside of work. You realized how much you two had in common. you both loved music, and you shared some of your favorite songs with him. He was interested in photography, something you had experimented with when you were younger. You even shared stories about awkward childhood experiences and your shared passion for late-night snacking.
You two realized at the end of the night that you had been talking for hours on end without even realizing how quickly the time had passed. Everyone had gone home, leaving the two of you standing outside the bar in a comfortable silence.
"I had a great time," Jisung said, his voice quiet but sincere. "Thanks for inviting me."
"Yeah, me too," you replied, your heart unexpectedly fluttering. "Iâm glad you came."
He hesitated for a moment, then, asked "Can I... walk you to your car? I mean, since itâs pretty late and all."
You smiled back, a little surprised by the gesture, but it felt nice. "Sure."
The two of you walked in silence for a few moments before stopping in front of your car. Jisung looked at you, his expression soft but uncertain, and you could see the faintest trace of vulnerability in his eyes.
"Thanks for tonight," he said, his voice a little lower now, as if unsure of what to say next.
You tilted your head, feeling the moment shift, something that had been building all night, maybe even all week. You werenât sure why, but in that instant, you felt drawn to him in a way you hadnât expected. You leaned in, your movements slow and deliberate, and before you knew it, your lips brushed against his in a brief but meaningful kiss.
Jisungâs breath hitched slightly, and when you pulled away, you both looked at each other, surprised by the tenderness of the moment.
"Goodnight, Jisung," you said softly, smiling a little more than you expected to.
"Goodnight," he replied, his voice almost shy, but there was a warmth in his smile that made your heart skip a beat.
As you got into your car, you couldnât help but think about the way the night had unfolded. Maybe things had changed between you and Jisung in more ways than just professionally. Maybe it wasnât just a mentor-mentee relationship anymore.

TAEHYUN: âI wish happiness for the people who made me feel happyâ
TOMORROW X TOGETHER The Star Chapter: SANCTUARY comeback interview
2024.11.14
TAEHYUN never speaks in a roundabout way. The idol doesnât mince words, and thereâs something tender about that.
You spent some alone time at the Hangang River a little while back. What do you do when you go there? TAEHYUN: I buy my choice of drink, a caramel macchiato, and go in search of serenity while I sip it to get the taste of sweetness on my tongue and take in the peaceful scenery with my eyes. It doesnât really inspire me so much as it just sort of feels restorative. I just feel good when I do that.
Youâre probably so busy that you only get little bits of time here and there, but what would you want to do if you could carve some free time out of your busy schedule? TAEHYUN: Iâd have some of that serenity I just mentioned, and work out, too. Iâd probably just do the same things I do in tiny bursts now but be more relaxed about it. Right now I exercise when I have little breaks, like when Iâm done for the day.
It seems like working outâs pretty much a part of your routine. TAEHYUN: Itâs so routine for me now that sometimes I donât even know why Iâm doing it. Itâs like how gym rats work out with no end goal. (laughs) Itâs helpful for my posture since I start hunching over if I havenât worked out in a while, and anyway, if I go straight home after work, I feel like I havenât done enough. (laughs) I like how it keeps me ready to go and makes me feel productive.
You even keep it up when youâre on tour, running to stay in shape or working on your abs for âTinnitus (Wanna be a rock).â TAEHYUN: We did around 30 shows and I showed off my abs every time. (laughs) I showed them once on tour in Seoul and then I thought people might feel left out if I skipped it anywhere else. I started getting more into food somewhere down the road so theyâre slowly disappearing, but Iâm trying to keep them around one way or another. (laughs) It hasnât been easy. I make myself run until Iâm out of breath when weâre on tour because it challenges me in the exact same way as performing. I donât know if it really helps since Iâve never not done it and therefore donât have data on it, but I believe it does.
Boxing, on the other hand, seems like something youâve kept up a long time not for keeping in shape but just for fun. TAEHYUN: Boxing isnât something where you can slow down when you get tired. If your opponent ups their pace, you have to, tooâbut youâre just as much an obstacle to them. If youâre not fighting for a title or to make it into a competition, then thereâs no risk of getting hurt, so itâs a great way to break a sweat and get in some cardio. You hear sports like these called chess played with the body. Even if youâre not as good as your opponent in some ways, youâve still got a shot at winning. What makes it so enticing is how you have to hone your skills in order to be powerful.
What does it mean to you to be powerful? TAEHYUN: It means a lot of different things. Thereâs some boxers who are strong for their weight class, and some who can shut out the crowd when theyâre on their opponentâs home turf and win. I think itâs partially mental like that. Thereâs people who make a plan and work toward their goal, avoiding any obstacles standing in their wayâpeople who donât fall apart.
It feels like thatâs your approach to your work in some regards. TAEHYUN: Iâd say so too. Those are the kinds of people who get up in front of tons of people at the pro level. Weâre similar in that we get up onstage and show everybody what weâve got after working at it for a while.
How do you find touring after working at it for a while? Itâs been about two years since you resumed in-person touring. TAEHYUN: It feels really overwhelming at first. When you find out how many shows there are, where youâre going, and get the set list, itâs seriously ⊠(laughs) I mean, obviously thereâs fun parts, but youâre running in an unflattering way to get through the walkways underneath, and sometimes you just feel like, Letâs get it done, or, Time to go changeâI will survive. Then thereâs parts where time flies, especially when you first get a mic in your hand. Itâs all about jumping around and having fun together. Going around and getting hyped with the audience happens spontaneously. Thatâs when it gets exciting.
I found what you said about your first online fanlive event on weverse LIVE really memorable: âWhen the cameraâs not on me, thereâs nowhere to see me. It was crushing.â TAEHYUN: That was a really weird period, since now there was no way for people to know what I was up to when the camera wasnât on me. But thereâs always somebody looking right at me when we do shows in person. In those cases, I have to be capturing the mood of the songs at all times, and I canât tuck my clothes in right away if I need to or rub my eye if something gets in there. Thereâs a lot more I have to pay attention to, but theyâre all minor things. Iâm always going to feel grateful as long as people are watching me.
You also put a lot of effort in for the tour in regard to your vocals, right? You seem to keep challenging yourself and experimenting in your own unique way. TAEHYUN: Yeah, totally. (laughs) I make minute adjustments, like, How can I make this easier? How can I increase my chances of success? How can I minimize damage to my throat? I try to feel how my body changes every time I do. Even for the sound, Iâm in direct communication with them to try and get things right during rehearsals. When youâre recording vocals, you can do it over and over to get it right, but youâve got people watching you at a concert, so you have to be confident you can keep your vocals steady 10 out of 10 times. I asked our producer Slow Rabbit once if we could bring the key down so it wouldnât be so hard to sing so hard live (laughs) but eventually it worked out anyway. Thereâs nothing you canât do if you just practice. If I canât do it, it means I didnât try hard enough. Anything is possible.
You sing several ad libs in The Star Chapter: SANCTUARY that give a real sense of your vocal style. Do you feel like youâve developed your own style while recording vocals now? TAEHYUN: Recording feels more familiar to me now, and the producer and I can practically read each otherâs thoughts now, so it's a completely stress-free experience. But thereâs one thing thatâs always on my mind. I love so many different genres. I love knowing their histories, singing them, and listening to them. But choosing what suits me is a huge challenge. Iâm confident I could handle anything they throw at me to 70 or 80% quality, but thereâs nothing I feel confident I could do at 100%. I donât really know if Iâm doing a good job of finding my own style, but knowing people can pick out your voice is something that makes any singer happy and appreciative. Itâs a really good sign.
I personally felt like only you could pull of the âForty One Winksâ intro. TAEHYUN: We recorded that in Japan during the tour, and before the parts were assigned, I heard the song and asked the producer if I could do the first verse. I said Iâd crush it. (laughs) So he said okay and I got to do it, and on the first day of recording, I immediately nailed it. I felt confident about that part: This is how it should go.
Youâve also been writing lyrics for a while now. Howâd it go with this new album? TAEHYUN: I have a lot I want to write whenever I think of something that would be really fun for TOMORROW X TOGETHER to sing. The idea behind âDangerâ is sort of clichĂ©, but we hadnât done something like that before so that actually made it fun. What was unusual this time was that we were out of the country so I couldnât take my preferred approach of opening up a bunch of windows on the monitor in the studio and writing on my phone. It was a new experience for me to not settle down in one place and write. I wrote âDangerâ on a plane, âResist (Not Gonna Run Away)â in a car. I have a tendency to drag things out when Iâm in the studio sometimes, but when Iâm on the go, I end up writing faster sometimes because I feel like I have to get it all down before arrivingâlike the ETAâs now the deadline. (laughs)
The lead single âOver The Moonâ has a more straightforward message than previous songs. How did you capture your interpretation of the song? You strike me as someone who really needs to understand what theyâre singing. TAEHYUN: Itâs way more straightforward, but thereâs still one line Iâd like to hear MOAâs interpretations of: âLetâs make an ancient future.â I need their help because Iâm curious how listeners feel about it. (laughs) I guess âOver The Moonâ is first and foremost about feeling good. Visually, the sense of freedom is important. I also hope anyone who sees it feels like weâre steady and talentedâso much that itâs like, Huh? Theyâre so eye-catchingâI canât stop thinking about them! If people feel like, These guys are so upliftingâwho are they?, at the end of our performance, Iâd say itâs a big success. We have to bring out the subtle allure to achieve that. The vocals need to be so good they sound fluid and flexible, and the choreo flawless.
Doesnât trying to have that kind of allure make it that much harder? TAEHYUN: Itâs way harder. (laughs) We reduced the amount of group dancing and filled that time with individual choreo instead, which took a lot of work. All group choreo takes is good stamina and a lot of rehearsal timeâthis approach takes exploration and gut feeling into what makes it look cool. I think weâve reached that point in our career now. Itâs something people who perform 30 shows at a time can do. (laughs)
Youâve always been the type to practice as hard as you can and just as confidently say so. Is that the case for this album, too? TAEHYUN: Yes.
You sound very sure of yourself! (laughs) TAEHYUN: I put in everything Iâve got within the time available. Thatâs something I feel I should do. Itâs just one of those obvious things. I feel a huge weight off focusing like that. Doing my best means putting my heart and soul into it until I feel that nothing will change no matter what might happen. Thatâs what doing my best means, I think.
Thatâs something only someone who has poured everything they have into their work can say. Whatâs there waiting at the end of all that hard work? TAEHYUN: I chose this path because I love being onstage and love singing, and now Iâve achieved that, but there are times when it becomes necessary to have goals. I want to set loftier goalsâI want to do and reach for lots of things under the name TOMORROW X TOGETHERâthe five of us and MOA together. Thereâs a lot I need to uphold for the fans, like sharing feelings and promises. We didnât pinky promise, but still. (laughs) I want to keep going with our group for a long time, and in order for that to happen, people need to keep checking us out, which gives me a sense of certainty. Having some goals and achieving them lets us feel like weâre really doing a good job and heading in the right direction.
Youâve been with the other members for eight years now, which is over a third of your life. TAEHYUN: Thatâs true. And Iâve known YEONJUN for nine years. Now, even when weâre working out how to move, we donât need to say muchâlike, âTwo? Three?â Thatâs how we ask whether to stand at the second or third marker on the stage. Weâve reached a point where we can talk entirely in nouns.
I could sense how close you are in episode 144 of TO DO X TXT, âAbandoned Stars,â when the older members were being protective of you even though they were equally scared. (laughs) TAEHYUN: I felt there was still kindness in the world in that moment. (laughs) SOOBIN saying, âHe canât do it alone,â and YEONJUN said, âDonât send him in by himself.â (laughs) We know each other so well that we donât hide anything. Working with people who you get along with that well is an absolute blessing. Itâs a good thing, too, since we spend more time with each other than our own families. It wasnât easy to get there, though. (laughs) I donât mean to be blunt, but we first came together to work together, meaning there were conflicts, and it took some time to figure out what didnât work. Sometimes I even felt itâd be easier to go alone, but now doing it alone is challenging.
You even brought YEONJUN a lunch you made for him when he went to do a pre-recording to promote âGGUM.â TAEHYUN: I know one thing for sure: I think Iâm extremely attentive toward the other members, and Iâm always monitoring their performances. Maybe if it were one of the other members, I wouldâve expressed how much I care in a different way, but for YEONJUN, I thought it would be best if I went there in person. He finds that kind of thing touching. (laughs) I was worried because he loves to eat and yet he probably couldnât eat properly and would just be eating fast food from the store. I just happened to be free, so I dropped by, gave it to him, and came back to get some sleep. (laughs) Only love can make that possible.
Youâre really good about showing the people around you how much you care. TAEHYUN: Iâm actually not close with that many people. Thereâs people I care for, or see all the time, or do stuff with, and I feel like, even if I put in the time and effort, it still requires a lot of opening up and communication. Thatâs what the people in my life mean to me. With the group, I feel like it has to be that way to end up with better results and build trust. That means that sometimes when weâre talking together, weâre not just saying nice things. If all youâre looking to do is keep things roughly as they are, you could get away with saying nice things exclusively, but sometimes you just have to say or hear unpleasant things.
That could honestly be hard to handle, but itâs love that keeps you going, isnât it? TAEHYUN: Itâs important how I express things, but I think itâs also important what the other members think of me. If theyâre working with the knowledge that Iâm saying those things out of love, they wouldnât think itâs absurd. Itâd just be nagging otherwise. (laughs) It takes a lot of effort from everyone involved.
But you have nothing but love when it comes to MOA. I randomly saw how one time while YEONJUN was doing pre-recording, you talked about how  MOAâs wait times need to be shortened. TAEHYUN: I hope our fans can have the best fan experience possible. I felt like itâd be better if we came back out a little sooner in the space between songs to talk. Spending a little extra time on fixing ourselves up doesnât really make us look that much better, I mean. (laughs) I told our staff, âWe should hurry out there,â and I guess they listened. (laughs)
You also left a comment on weverse saying, âWishing other people happiness is one of the ways Iâve found happiness myself.â Iâm guessing you had an experience that led you to feel that way. TAEHYUN: When I meet fans, sometimes they say things like, âYou saved my life.â Honestly, all I could do was do my best with singing, put out some albums, and get up onstage. I think maybe the reason they say it that way is because getting to know TOMORROW X TOGETHER and seeing us brings out positive feelings for them. I thought that wishing happiness for the same people who made me feel happy and wishing the best for them would send more positive vibes back their way again. I think that moment really hit me.
