Part of my confusion about "Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria" is that it's really just... not a good term? It doesn't really reflect what it's supposed to, which is the idea that some teenagers essentially take on a trans identity as a sort of social role spurred on by friend groups.
I think that this is likely to be actually true in at least some sense, so I was amazed at how unconvincing the Littman paper which coined the term actually is. The parental narratives advanced in that paper are just unbelievable on their face.
Ever since the gay rights movement I've felt that our vocabulary for talking about this stuff is deliberately incredibly stupid, for reasons I haven't quite been able to suss out.
In the gay rights battles, everybody got together and agreed that there were exactly two possibilities:
Gay people are born that way
Gay people made a choice to be gay
I think this is really dumb because those are really obviously not the only two options, and also because there's lots of biological "born this way" things we still treat or try to eliminate, and lots of choices that are still incredibly important to protect.
But also, like, okay, think about sexual fetishes. Say you have a guy with a cheerleader fetish. Cheerleaders are a contingent social phenomenon; no 12th century Breton had a cheerleader fetish. The possibility of such a fetish arose with the invention of the cheerleader.
But it's just as obvious that people do not choose their fetishes the way that they choose, say, a new car. Nobody says, "After listing out the pros and cons, I felt that having a cheerleader fetish was the best choice, because it combines a little bit of exotic spice while still being mainstream enough that it can't be used as blackmail if people find out about it."
No, one day you just realize that you think cheerleaders are really hot.
I do tend to think that gender identity is, for most people, a lot less immediately set in stone than sexual orientation is. My personal impression is that the vast majority of people start to understand very quickly whether they are attracted to men, women, or both, and that they only tell themselves differently because they fear social censure.
I'm not really convinced that the same is true of gender identity; I think that for an extremely large number of people it does function a bit more like a fetish, in that there are people who encounter the idea for the first time, go, "Huh, yeah that's cool or whatever" and after repeated encounters come to think, "Actually I am really into this."
I'm very, very suspicious of the tendency to then assert that this must inherently, then, be a discovery of something that always existed within the person since birth.
There's also the fact that gender roles exist, and people want to be legible to people around them.
For a lot of people, dressing up as a vampire on Halloween is fun, but dressing up as a vampire to go grocery shopping in June would be deeply embarrassing. Because on Halloween all the people around you understand why you're dressed that way and your dress makes you part of a larger social whole; in June you're going against the grain, marking yourself out from the people around you, probably drawing stares and hidden smiles.
Because sex roles in our society are so set in stone, there is a certain extreme dissatisfaction with not following them, even when allowed to do so.
I can wear chokers and frills and pretty hair ribbons if I want, but the women around me can do that anywhere in the country and have people think of it as normal, as obvious, rather than *a statement*.
Rapid Onset Gender Dysphoria, from reading the Littman paper, seems to refer to a parental conviction that their child essentially got the idea to be trans from a peer group who convinced them they were trans despite a lack of gender dysphoria in childhood.
Like I said, the general narrative is really, really hard to believe at face value, for example:
A total of 63.8% of the parents have been called “transphobic” or “bigoted” by their children for one or more reasons, the most common being for: disagreeing with the child about the child’s self-assessment of being transgender (51.2%); recommending that the child take more time to figure out if their feelings of gender dysphoria persist or go away (44.6%); expressing concerns for the child’s future if they take hormones and/or have surgery (40.4%); calling their child by the pronouns they used to use (37.9%); telling the child they thought that hormones or surgery would not help them (37.5%); recommending that their child work on other mental health issues first to determine if they are the cause of the dysphoria (33.3%); calling the child by their birth name (33.3%); or recommending a comprehensive mental health evaluation before starting hormones and/or surgery (20.8%)
So, like, the whole tenor of the paper is that these are basically very liberal parents who are sort of being cut off by their kids for no reason, but like...
This is typical of the general weasel wording used by Littman. Are the third of parents who called their kids by pronouns they used to use going, "She - Oops, he, I'm sorry" one time and getting blasted? Do they claim to be trying but just get it wrong literally every single time? Or do they just flat out refuse to call their child by their preferred pronouns?
When my brother was first entering high school, he joined the Sea Scouts, a division of the Boy Scouts dedicated to learning about sailing. He later entered a maritime college and has had a succession of maritime jobs, which will likely be his career for the rest of his life.
Is that the result of social contagion or was he born that way?
I think the question is obviously both absurd and irrelevant.

Ruler of the cruel
Masochist! Yandere Author x Cruel! Editor Reader
Authors note/warnings:
W-Yandere stuff, some suggestive content (nothing major), drugging.
A/N- [hearts are time skips] tbh, I really like this one. I did ask a question, feel free to answer. Have a good night/day, drink and eat something. Enjoy~
____________________________________
Yan!Author, (pen name H.D. Oleander) was destined for greatness.
Yan!Author, who was born to an elite family. He had the highest of education. He had women, men, and everyone in between pining after him.
Yan!Author, who is the heir to a multimillion dollar company.
Yan!Author who was born into the life of dreams.
🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤
Editor! Reader, toughened by the world. Born to a not so well off family with little love to go around.
Editor! Reader, who built up a reputation. Reader was known as he ruler of the crueler (given to them from a good friend and colleague as a joke).
Editor! Reader, who didn’t care who the person was. The would be author could be God, and Reader would still give harsh feedback and a big red rejection stamp on the work if it wasn’t up to their standard.
Editor! Reader, whose reputation didn’t stop people asking to buy them drinks. No one made it past the first date without crying.
🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍
Editor! Reader’s publishing house started to fail (totally not Reader’s fault. No, not at all), so when they got a large sum of money they had to take the chance.
A week before the money was offered, a rich looking man bumped into a very unhappy Reader.
Yan!Author was walking around town (in a disguise of a slightly less rich man) and happened to knock into someone.
Reader was angry (like always), but getting bumped into and dropping the manuscript they were submitted (and rejected) pushed them over the edge.
“Watch it asshole!” Reader snapped, a bitter and icy tone in their voice.
Normally Yan!Author wouldn’t take the disrespect. Yan!Author was much more important than them, right?
That would be in a normal circumstance.
This time, the person was… beyond breathtaking. Beyond angelic. Beyond godly.
You waved your hands in front of their face. Why were they staring? Creep.
“O-oh!” Yan!Author said.
Sighing, you crouched to pick the papers up,
“Here, let me hel-” Yan!Author tried to crouch beside you.
“You’ve done enough,” you snap.
Yan!Author, taken aback and slightly aroused let you push past them.
That night, Yan!Author looked you up (he may or may not have sneaked a quick pic for… reasons) and found the publishing house. He also saw that you were one of the cruelest editor of all time. You were notoriously harsh on everyone.
🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤
When you got to your desk on Monday your boss approached you cautiously.
“A-as you know, we’ve received a large amount of a money from an author who goes by the pen name H.D. Oleander—”
“Like the flower?” You ask, tone as pointed as ever. Your boss flinched.
“Well, yes, he specifically requested you to be his editor.” The boss dropped the manuscript on your desk and practically ran out of your office.
You sighed and went on to critique the work.
🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍
When you were done, it was 5 minutes til close.
You went to go submit it back to this H.D. Oleander guy when your boss asked if you were harsh as always. You told him you were honest.
Your employer asked if you could be nicer, especially since Oleander was so rich and they didn’t want to go bankrupt.
In the most professional way, you told him to go fuck himself. Like hell you were going to lie. You were known for your honesty, that was obviously why you were requested.
Your boss couldn’t do anything to stop you, so he let you do as you pleased and sent the manuscript back.
🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤
The day Yan!Author got the edited manuscript was one of the happiest days of his life.
When Yan!Author saw the red lettering and harsh critique, he couldn’t help but get excited in more than one way.
Yan!Author spent most of the night imagining you making fun of his lack of talent, lack of creativity, making fun of him. He imagined the kind of things you would say and do to him if you found out he was jerking off to the thought of your voice calling him pathetic. (I kinda wanna write a full on smut scene, should I?)
🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍🖤🤍
The next day at work you’re called down to the lobby, a frantic and strange tone in the receptionists voice. Almost as if she was trying to seduce someone.
Taking the elevator down you let your mind wander. Sure, you maybe be cold, but you still have an imagination.
You step into the lobby to see an oddly familiar face. The receptionist tried to flirt with the guy. He paid no mind.
As soon as you’re in his view he practically skips to you.
“Can I help you?” You ask.
“Yes! Thank you for the corrections on my book!” He beams at you.
“It’s my job?” You’re confused.
“Well, thank you! Here, we’re going to get lunch! I’ll pay!” He continues, overly excited.
“… ok?”
He grabs your hand and drags you to his limo. Yes, limo.
When you climb into the vehicle, he immediately pours you a drink.
“Where would you like to go?”
“I don’t know. I don’t eat lunch,” you take the drink.
After you finish it, you feel… dizzy?
Wait.
Did he spike—
“I’ll see you when you wake up darling,”~

Hey slug! Obviously it's a bit older now, but I was wondering if you might be able to translate Sougyaran BAM, from Kuko? I feel like I don't quite understand the TLs I have seen, so I was wondering if there were certain references or concepts I'm missing here lol
I saw the email notification of this request at the perfect moment. Too anxious to do work or anything else productive. Too caffeinated to sleep. Fuck it. Time to look at Kuukou for an hour.
Under a cut for length
Like a lot of Kuukou's... well, everything... this song is an eclectic mix of elements that can all more or less be distilled into these couple of bullet points:
Trying to fight the listener
Dropping powerful life advice or Buddhist teachings
Claiming his music is both a game changer and the kind of stuff that gets your blood pumping
Scatting, rhyming without meaning, or otherwise making wordplay
Outside of the parts that are straight-up nonsensical, the majority of the rap is very casual to the point of being rude. However, it's also interspersed with formal religious language. Again, both of these are how Kuukou talks, but I get why this would make it difficult for someone to translate.
I talk about this a lot whenever I translate anything, but an important (and maybe the most important!) part of any translation is determining the methodology, focus, and goals before you begin. I figure that if someone's asking me to look at song lyrics for songs that have been out for years, they probably care a lot more about the minutiae of what the character's saying than if I'm writing a rap as part of a longer work where readers aren't going to give it much attention. In that second case, it's probably more important to convey the appearance of a rap--rhyme, rhythm, what have you--and make sure I'm hitting the overall meaning rather than translate word-for-word. You know? The issue is, translating word-for-word would produce mostly nonsense on this one, since my interpretation of its meaning is largely coming from reading between the lines. There's also no real meaning outside of the four bullet points above. It's all vibes. So, this is a vibe-focused translation. When Kuukou says something with no meaning (that I can tell) outside of wordplay, I've exchanged it with a fresh wordplay. At the same time, since I assume the audience wants to know the minutiae, I put footnotes at the very end for the most curious souls. Finally, outside of wordplay moments, there is no attention paid to rhyming, rhythm, or line length.
Also I spent like forty minutes on it so it isn't a polished work of art or anything of the sort. Lyrics:
You wanna piece of this? That’s cool, tough guy. Bring it on. ‘Cause I’mma mess you up. Hmm? You’ve had enough? Yeah, bitch, I bet you’re fuckin’ SATIETIED. Who the hell do you think you are? Aw, who I am kidding? It doesn’t matter who you are. I’ve never met an ass I couldn’t kick! And while I’m here thrashing your sorry butt, listen up. I’m Kuukou from Bad Ass Temple, representing Nagoya, yo. And I’m gonna be world champion. Whazzat? Who do I think I am, some kinda fancy-pants hotshot? Nah, dawg. I’m a monk, haha! Get in the zone, do it or go home, this ain’t the scene you’ve known. [1] I’m a rebellious rhymer staging a revolution. C’mon, join me! Let me hear your voices!
“Enough determination can move mountains,” as they say. Yeah, a-a-a-and I’ve got determination for days.
San gha gharan bam! [2] S-S-S-Scatting n’ rapping, rapping with my razzle-dazzle tongue [3] Check, ch-ch-ch-check it, che-wa-watch out Gha bam! S-S-S-Scatting n’ rapping, rapping, BAT’s sexy leader [4] Kick, kickin’ kickin’ killer San gha gharan bam gha gha gharan bam gha gha gharan bam Gha gha gha gha gharan bam
Say what? Rules, rules, rules—who the fuck cares about rules? I’m the ruler now. A ruler and a schooler. [5] Yo, I’ve got that brand new music— When I ring this giant bell, people hear that shit far and wide. Beat it! And lyrics? You already know I spit so much fire they call me a dragon. I’m all about the impulses, the anarchy, let’s fuckin’ go! I’m a breath of fresh air up in this shit. Eight pulls, nine pulls, ten pulls—someone say temples? [6] If you don’t know already, then you oughta listen up. You don’t need any of these options. Go make your own. Paint that shit vibrantly. Go try something new! And if it goes so well you can indulge in some goddamn rejoicin’? Then hell yeah, now we’re talking.
Yo, man. The world’s all in how you see it, as they say, and don’t you ever forget it. A-a-a-and I may be a monk, but I’m not preachin’ just to scold you! [7]
San gha gharan bam! S-S-S-Scatting n’ rapping, rapping with my razzle-dazzle tongue Check, ch-ch-ch-check it, che-wa-watch out Gha bam! S-S-S-Scatting n’ rapping, rapping, BAT’s sexy leader Kick, kickin’ kickin’ killer San gha gharan bam gha gha gharan bam gha gha gharan bam Gha gha gha gha gharan bam
Yeah, life’s got ups and downs. You asking me, “Whatchu lookin’ at?” [8] Your ASS, lol got ‘em. Wassup, wassup, I’m a rhymer. I’m makin’ some good shit up in here. Hm? Ey, dance, dance over days when our hearts are aligned [9] Shoo bidoo doo bidoo Roo bidoo doo bidoo Tickili tickili tackili-tatt-too
Yeah! Haha! My rapping’s freakin’ EXHILARATORY. Hello! Aight, c’mon on, lemme give you some of this and wake you right up. Yo, c’mon, c’mon, c’mon, ho!
Gharan bam gharan bam Gh-gh-gh-gh hey! Bring it on, tough guy! R-r-rapping, rapping, r-r-rapping with my razzle-dazzle tongue R-r-rapping, yeah, gh-gh-gh, hey!
Yeah, clear the scene, ‘cause I’mma reinvent the scene. [10] Yo, get outta my way. I’m Evil Monk, the dragon of Bad Ass Temple, you know. Rrrrrrah! [1] This last is literally "clear weather (空)" or "energetic vibes (空)." At face value, it appears to be nonsense for rhyming. However, at the very end of the song, Kuukou talks about "the vibes/the scene (空気)" changing and him changing it (which can also be read as the weather changing/clearing up), which makes me wonder if those two are related. Just in case, I wrote them with a possible connection in English too.
[2] 僧伽藍 (sangharan) is a short form of 僧伽藍摩 (sangharama), a Buddhist temple or monastery. Bam is, of course, the sound of Kuukou throwing hands.
[3] 饒舌 (jouzetsu) is a fairly formal word in Japanese to refer to excessive talking. However, I was surprised to learn in the process of TLing this that it's also Chinese for rapping which appears to be how Kuukou's using it here. Also, if you're curious how English "jazzy" became "razzle-dazzle," I realized near the end of the song that I needed to start this word with the same sound as "rapping" (because he scats the j sound on jazzy and jouzetsu) whereupon I set out to find a good synonym. The issue is, I wasn't sure exactly how the lyric writers were using the term, so I put "jazzy" in an English-to-Japanese dictionary to get "loud, invigorating, eye-catching." Yeah, that's Kuukou all right. "Razzle-dazzle" is similar and starts with an r, so there we go.
[4] The lyrics say "xy な leader" (the な is just indicating that "xy" is being used as an adjective, btw) which I assumed means sexy... ekkusu ii said quickly sounds like sekushii. To be sure I wasn't barking up the wrong tree entirely, I ran a quick Twitter search on that line and found a very large number of Japanese Tweeters thinking the exact same thing I was. (It looks like Kuukou's VA once flashed his collarbone on this line in a concert, delighting scores of collarbone lovers everywhere.) That being said, searching anything on Twitter and finding horny Tweets isn't exactly a novel concept. Well, if I'm wrong about this, then at least I'm in the good company of all the thirsty Kuukou fans. Hahaha. If this seems OoC to you, I feel like it's here mainly for fanservice, not necessarily because Kuukou's trying to get some with the person he's beating up and/or preaching at. Although, idk. If you ship Kuukou with anyone, you could very well see some parallels...
[5] Literally "I'll beat up [everything] including the roulette board." Wordplay on rules (ruuru), ruler (ruuraa), and roulette (ruuretto)
[6] Literally "Terapii (therapy), terapii, terapii, tera (temple)-- Oh, the age of temples?" Wordplay/stupid joke
[7] I don't like how I worded this line, but I don't care enough to spend much more time fussing over it. Kuukou's making a joke that, as a monk, he delivers religious sermons 説法. However, in colloquial terms, a 説法 is a telling-off when someone does something undesirable. Kuukou, as a frequent doer of undesirable things, gets these from his dad constantly. Therefore, he's being like, "This isn't the LAME STUPID kind of 説法... this is the kind that ROCKS! *sick guitar riff*"
[8] These two lines seem like complete non sequiturs because they're paired together in Japanese for rhyming. (nami ga dekiru/nani ga mieru)
[9] I admit that I'm struggling to understand this line because the grammar is very irregular. Japanese Twitter is not being especially helpful here, as most Tweets featuring it are some version of "God, this damn song is stuck in my head."
[10] Literally "[Someone] changes the atmosphere/scene. The atmosphere/scene changes." See note 1

It's been too long but I've been thinking about Gerudo Town so HERE WE ARE
@iloveramen60 my SINCEREST apologies for saying I would do this and then forgetting about it for so long. The demons of mortality came for me and I have only just returned with my life 😔
Anyway, let's get into it! *cracks knuckles* This one was actually a very neat experience cos unlike the other settlements in botw/totk Hyrule, we actually DO have an idea of how well they would do in large scale attack. Obviously the conditions were not the same as a normal assault cos there were desert moth zombies and massive sandstorms all around 24/7, but it gave me enough to go off of to get some good ideas! Location-wise, Gerudo town is SOLID.
There are exactly two ways to access the desert and both of them are AWEFUL XD
Option one is to come from the ocean
Tumblr media
and have to walk DAYS across the scorching desert. I don't think I have to explain why this sucks??? But just in case, this basically means you have to exhaust both time and energy (because the sand will slow you down MASSIVELY) and most likely supplies cos if you don't want your forces to die of dehydration before they reach Gerudo Town, they'll need to drink a lot of water and stay cool. There's really no good places to stop and rest either that won't put any opposing army at a disadvantage. Very bad
But it's not like the other way is any better XD
Tumblr media
If an army managed to get past a BUNCH of Hyrule itself, they would then have to march through Gerudo Canyon, which is, like, the bottleneck to end all bottlenecks. And if they're coming from that direction, the chances that they would have been seen by someone from Hyrule Kingdom who could send word is very high. This means that, if a message got through in time, the Gerudo could sand seal on over there to intercept them when they came out of the canyon. And do NOT want to have to fight a bunch of strong warrior women on their home turf after trekking through a desert canyon for days idk about you
And even if they DID make it through the canyon, any battle on the sand would be in the Gerudo's favour. They are LITERALLY trained to fight in the desert. The know their way around combat in those conditions. I mean, look at how we see Urbosa fights the Champions Ballad and Age of Calamity cutscenes. The sand is NOT an issue for them. In contrast, an army in heavy armour that sinks into the sand, would not be doing as good XD
But of course, even then they'd have a hard time even getting INTO the village.
Before we get into it, I have to say...having four major entrances was NOT the best move. But because it's literally an entire town full of ladies who can kill you, it's not AS big an issue...
Tumblr media
those are all the different entrances. HOWEVER! Each of them has at least two guards at the entrance (the one behind Riju's throne has, like four if you include Buliara and the two guards at the stairs and Riju herself), which adds good fortification. They ALSO have an underground bunker they can hide kids, injured, or elderly who can't fight, and that is fill with supplies to keep them going. My ONE question is...how do they open and close it?
Tumblr media
It sort of looks like they just blew up a hole in the stairs and got it open that way, which is not good in the case that their entire town is being attacked. Of course, there is the other door to get through, but it's really just a rolly stone that a strong person or two could move out of the way. HOWWWWWEVER! It is a very small entrance, and the Gerudo would clearly be aware of how important the bunker is, so they would most likely have a pretty heavey militia waiting there at the centre of the town to guard it (like we see in totk when the gibdos attack the town). They also have a big ol canon! Which is a MASSIVE advantage in defense. Especially as we see that it's not a fix location canon and can be moved wherever it's needed. So our girls could simply move the canon to wherever the enemy is heaviest and fire on them from there. Very smart
Tumblr media
Overall, I'm a BIG fan of Gerudo Town. It's got a few flaws, but honestly the unmatched martial prowess of the Gerudo themselves helps to make up for it. It would be interesting to see how they hold up against enemies other than mindless sand zombies, but I think they'd do a pretty good job XD

As we're all very aware, we live in a time when open hatred of many marginalized groups has been growing. And as many others have said, it's super fucking important that we stop fighting amongst ourselves over relatively minor issues when there are people who quite literally wants us dead, or at the very least, silent and subservient.
Punching down and sideways to attack the people who are 99% on our side might make us feel superior for a little while, but it's important to ask ourselves if attacking other marginalized people helps anyone.
With that in mind, I wanted to remind all of us that language, culture, and iconography all change over time, and not everyone keeps up with those changes at the same speed.
As an obvious example, 'they' is now a much more commonly used singular pronoun than it used to be. It's meaning has expanded and changed subtly.
Another example is the comedy genre in general: movies and TV shows from even a few years ago relied on humor that many of us now see as tasteless at best and dehumanizingly cruel at worst.
Then you have things like reclaimed slurs. For some of them, their meanings have changed multiple times.
We've also got all of the microlabels among queer folks, which are rapidly multiplying and evolving. Many of them didn't exist 2 or 5 or 10 years ago, but now they might be the most central part of someone's personality.
Pepe the frog is an example of an image whose meaning has radically shifted in a short period of time. What was originally a harmless cartoon was appropriated by the US alt-right movement and is now considered a hate symbol (though the ADL acknowledges that 'the majority of uses of Pepe the Frog have been, and continue to be, non-bigoted').
On the opposite end of the spectrum, you have characters like Mickey Mouse and Felix the Cat, who were designed to be minstrels. Now, of course, almost no one associates Mickey Mouse with blackface or racism.
Those are just a handful of examples involving the English language and the internet's largely American-centric culture, but there are obviously many, many more. All of this is difficult enough for native English speakers to keep up with, but we should also bear in mind that, for many folks, English isn't their native language.
I've seen awful harassment by queer people against another queer person just because her English wasn't perfect and she used a term that, at that time, wasn't considered the correct one by the people who attacked her.
We should also keep in mind people who have other language or cognitive difficulties (I'm honestly not sure how to phrase this, so please don't assume I'm being derogatory or cruel—I am one of those people).
Even for those of us with the best of intentions, all of this can make online interactions feel like navigating a minefield because many people exclusively engage in paranoid reading of everything from novels to shitposts.
I think all of us would be better served if we stepped back for a moment to consider questions like, "Does this person have malicious intentions?" and "Is this something that causes real harm to real people or does it just bother me, personally?" and "Will calling this person out or shaming them help anyone?"
A lot of us are on the same side, and we might have slightly different beliefs, but we don't need to be enemies. Wasting our outrage on each other is exactly what our real enemies want.

Joker's motivations in Joker War
Now idk if I was the only one initially confused by wtf Joker's actual intentions were in Joker War. Maybe I'm just a bit schewpid and everyone else got it but regardless here's my attempt to piece together what's going on in his weird little mind.
Imho, the first lines we get about Joker's underlying intentions are here:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's extremely important that he was aware of Bruce's intentions to redesign the city. That was definitely the catalyst for the whole thing.
Speaking of Bruce's plans to redesign the city:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He mentions multiple times that his goal is to build a city that doesn't need a Batman.
Regardless of whether he actually mentioned something like this at a press conference or something, I'm sure Joker would be able to pick up on it anyway.
And it's very well-established that Joker needs Batman. The Best Man arc has this whole beautiful monologue about it:
Tumblr media
Joker NEEDS Batman. A city without Batman is a city with no place for Joker.
The whole Best Man arc takes during the same year (year 17) as Joker War (prior to it, obviously).
The Batcat engagement took place in year 16. (In which Batman also had Joker locked up in his basement. And he deliberately tracked down amnesiac!Joker and made him Normal Joker again so he could get information. Yowza! Not cool, Bats.)
Additionally, the events of Endgame took place on year 15 and Death of the Family in year 14.
Joker reveals more of his motivations in the final fight scene between him and Batman:
Tumblr media
Very interesting that Joker initially chooses to stab Batman in the back. Hmm I wonder if that has any deeper meaning or reveals anything about Joker's own feelings in this situation /sar.
Also very, very, very significant that Joker chooses to battle Batman in that particular suit, after he essentially desecrates it:
Tumblr media
So, by now, it's apparent that Joker's direct intention with Joker War was to essentially destroy the possibility of Bruce's vision of Gotham:
Tumblr media
He even directly says that all of this was about them.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Hm... I don't think he's just talking about the city, here...
And then we have this:
There's been a recurring theme since Death of the Family, that Bruce isn't being the Batman that Joker wants him to be.
Tumblr media
To me, this line feels like "okay, Batman is ruined irreparably, let's just destroy him and start over from scratch."
Then we have this panel. Whew. I think this might be one of the most revealing panels in the entirety of Joker War, largely because of how Joker is depicted in it.
Tumblr media
He doesn't look angry, he looks genuinely distraught.
And I didn't notice this until someone else pointed it out but if you zoom in, it definitely looks like he's crying.
Tumblr media
I don't think this is just an artistic thing, largely because of this panel from a few issues back:

So those are definitely tears of laughter. But it looks roughly the same. Except based on the context and his expression, I don't think those are tears of laughter in Joker War. At the very least, he's hysterical.
Somewhat of a tangent but it's important to tie everything together: Joker War reminds me very much of DOTF and Endgame in that Joker is depicted (or tries to portray himself) as this terrifying, ruthless, inhuman thing, but if you actually look into his motivations, he's being driven by his emotions, particularly his feelings about Batman, which are almost inarguably the most human part of him.
In DOTF he talks about how Batman isn't being the Batman he wants him to be and yadda yadda, but then in the tie-ins, we have this section, which I think does a beautiful job of explaining his real motivations:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
It's jealousy. Jealousy and fear. He's terrified of losing Batman.
And then there's a similar thing in Endgame.
Initially, he says this:
Tumblr media
"Haha yeah I'm just bored of you lol."
But then in the final scene we get this:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
He's not bored, he's heartbroken. He's genuinely hurt by Batman (in his perception) rejecting him, and he's lashing out in a major way.
I think it's definitely similar in Joker War, except he's not as afraid of losing Batman to the Batfam, more so he's afraid that Bruce's new design for the city will eliminate the need for a Batman, although the Batcat almost-wedding and Bruce's growing family definitely play a role in his motivations.
I think that might be where his whole idea of making Batman start over with nothing came from. Because when Bruce started, he didn't really have anyone except for Alfred, and later Dick.
I think that Joker could tolerate him having a few allies but he can't handle the idea of Batman having an actual family. Both because he doesn't want to share Batman's attention, and because he doesn't have a family, so why does Batman get to have one? Why does Batman get to connect with people when the only person he's truly connected to is Batman? He wants Bats to be as dependent on him as he is on Bats.
So, that's just my Hot Take (read: mediocre interpretation) of Joker War. I wasn't too fond of the storyline until I kinda pieced everything together and it's still not my favorite arc but I definitely like it better than I did initially.

I've learned not to trust my memory, so I wanted to make a note for myself of some things I enjoyed from the Neptune production of RAGAD before it all leaks out my ears. It's mostly for me but thought I'd post it here in case it's interesting to anyone else.
Note for people that aren't me: this is the only production of RAGAD I've seen live. I've seen the movie and the 2017 NTL recording as of writing this, for reference. So, forgive me if I gush about elements/choices that are common to RAGAD productions and not unique to this one lol. Also I was an English major but not a theatre guy outside some Shakespeare, so also bear with me if I'm lacking some specific terms.
Performances:
I feel like this almost goes without saying but Boyd and Monaghan are excellent as Guildenstern and Rosencrantz. Their chemistry is great. There was an excellent rhythm to their dialogue together that was really fast-paced without feeling artificial (imo there is a certain point where performers talk so fast it can only feel fake. They were all believable enthusiam).
I particularly liked Monaghan's Rosencrantz! like there was just something so earnest about him. He had this character tic of chewing on his finger most of the time out of anxiety or inattention and that stuck out for me for some reason. It was endearing. Also the line "I wanted to make you happy" made the whole theatre let out a wounded animal noise.
Also Boyd's Guildenstern really did a good job of projecting an aura of "person trying really hard to appear in control but may also snap any moment". Control freak recognizing control freak o7
The Player (Michael Blake) was amazing. He had such huge stage presence that you really believed the character was a seasoned performer. I fully believe this man could successfully sell me snake oil with the power of his presence alone.
Personal note but I was jazzed to see Drew Douris-O'Hara as Alfred. I'm not a regular Neptune patron so I don't know how often he appears in their productions, but I have seen many a Shakespeare By The Sea show in my time so he's a very familiar face. Always a really fun presence.
I also feel like I have to mention Ophelia (Helen Belay) even though she obviously doesn't get much to do here. The actress really sold every small appearance though like my heart broke a little every time I saw her in anticipation for her off-stage fate. Less important but have you ever seen a woman so beautiful you started crying?
Costumes:
I really liked Ros and Guil's tattered suits. They looked like they were dragged behind a horse. These are the clothes of two guys that have been trapped in a play for like 50 years, truly.
They also had an inverted colour scheme (Ros had a blue suit with a green waistcoat, Guil had a green suit with blue waistcoat) that really emphasized the two-sides-of-the-same-coin/ yin & yang vibe. Also the colours weren't really shared by the rest of the cast much (they tended to be a bit more muted) so it made them stand out as separate from the rest of what was happening.
Also personal note but I was enchanted by Monaghan's slightly stupid-looking grown-out fauxhawk. He basically had a lesbian mullet haircut. That combined with his single dangly earring was a Look.
The Player's coat was gorgeous. It felt grand but also appropriately dated/worn. It wasn't fully a feather jacket, but it had a smattering of large feathers that got more dense as it went down. It kind of reminded me of a vulture, honestly, which I think is fitting, with him being an opportunist that loves some corpses.
Script:
Misc. Stage Stuff:
Unless I'm really mistaken, I think they cut/modified the few lines with some outdated racial terms (I have two specifically in mind, referring to Chinese and Inuit people). So unless I just somehow missed hearing those, that's nice.
Just a note to say that the line about who the English King is will depend on when they get to England got a huge laugh. Thank you to King Charles' cancer for making everything funnier
The lighting !!! It really did a lot to separate the scenes from Hamlet from the rest of it. The stage was dark for most of it, with cool lighting (like a blue darkness). For the Hamlet portions, though, the lights were suddenly bright and warm yellow. That combined with the differences in the performances gave a strong impression that the curtain had just suddenly risen on a more traditional production of Hamlet right in the middle of Ros and Guil just doing whatever.
I really liked how they used the two risers on wheels they had (not sure if that's the right word -- they were those three-tiered platforms I remember from doing choir in school. Kind of like bleachers). They looked like they belonged on an empty stage and also gave the actors something interesting to climb on. They were able to reposition them pretty easily with the wheels, which really worked for the portions on the boat tbh. They just pushed them together so that the lower tiers touched to create a half-pipe-shaped skeletal "boat". They could climb "above deck", or even go below while still being fully visible from whatever angle. The whole thing was spun around a lot during the pirate attack, which was fun.
The risers also separated the stage really well in the first two acts. For most of it, there was one on the left side facing the audience, for characters to sit on, and one on the right facing backwards and partially obscured by the curtain they had covering that side of the stage. The curtain was backlit, so you could see the silhouettes of anything behind it. At some points, you could actually see shadows of events in Hamlet happening in the background while Ros and Guil were doing their thing in the foreground. Unfortunately I didn't get the best look at them, bc I was sitting at far right of my row, so the far right of the stage was partially out of my sight line. Still a really cool effect!
They did turn the risers fully around to face the back during the players' performance of The Murder of Gonzago, with the curtain pulled across. You saw the shadow of the king standing up and storming out.
For the final scene, they did the expected thing, where Ros and Guil are alone in the dark, illuminated by a single narrow spotlight each. The spotlight goes out when each of them die and they disappear from view. The detail that made me insane though is that each time a spotlight went out, they played the sound of a flipped coin hitting the stage and the audience was so quiet it felt like a gunshot both times.
After all the deaths they had Rosencrantz and Guildenstern start from the opening scene again tossing coins for a bit before the final curtain. They did not escape the narrative 😔
Will add more if anything else comes to mind?

The Microphones.
Tumblr media
For those who do not know... I am from the great state of washington state. Well... i was born in california.. in Orange County......... Buuuuuuuttttt, i have lived basically my whole life here in washington. Now washington is home to many big artist and bands. With obviously some of our biggest talents being Nirvana, Jimi Hendrix, the one guy that does all those christmas songs, as well as many not as popular bands which had major influence and contributions to music such as Unwound, Sunny Day Real Estate, The Sonics, and depending who you ask (since they do have a large amount of listeners) Death Cab for Cutie, Modest Mouse, and Fleet Foxes. Though I enjoy pretty much all these bands, and love some of them, there is one artist who tops most, maybe all of these bands for me. The Microphones is the Lofi project of Genius Phil Elverum. I wont get too into his details because i am not a stalker or anything like that hahaha... but he is awesome and makes amazing music. The Microphones sound and feeling is basically the essance of Washington State. For me when i listen. it feels like im in a foggy forest with light rain and mountains surrounding me. It's a cold yet warm and welcoming sound. Being from washington and living a couple hours away, i feel a strange closeness to the music and vibes of the album, it's something i think about often and its kinda weird to explain outside of my brain so i wont explain. Now aside from me living here i also look up to him alot because i am also an artist music wise and whatever. although i make vastly different music (listen to Corporal Rabbit i will make a proper post for my music and maybe that'll make me very famous.) I still fall into the indie lofi umbrella term, and obviously with him being such an important figure for the solo independant lofi community and genre and sound, i take lots of insporation from him and stuff if you know what i mean.
In 2023 i graduated highschool. I had a pretty crappy highschool experience during my last semester as a senior so i was going through a pretty rough time. Almost right after i graduated i got offered a job in alaska, and already being in a bad state of mind, and not having any kinds of friends or relationships outside of family, i decided it was best for me to go since i didn't have much here. About a week or 2 before leaving, i listened to the album The Glow, Pt. 2 for the first time. i had already heard of the microphones and had heard some song but i never really got super into it, but as soon as the song The Glow Pt. 2 came on... I felt something deep down that i haden't really felt in a while. Each of those songs was almost perfectly tailored to something going on in my life, I was going through a breakup, i had lost my bestfriend, i felt so alone and angry. Everything about the album felt like it was made for me. When i left for alaska, the whole plane ride the only thing i wanted to listen to was The Glow Pt.2, when i was in alaska and laying in bed after work tired and depressed and lonely, all i would do was listen to the album and cry. The album felt like home, i felt a sense of comfort, reality, and relatability i didn't feel with any other album.
Now i didnt spend much time in alaska since all it did was isolate me even more and made me depressed. but that part of my year was the most impactful for me. though i dont make that kind of music and i dont know if im capable of it, i want to somehow make music that can make people feel the way i felt when listening to the Glow Pt.2.
Phil Elverum, Although not being the most famous, the most rich, or the most talked about artist. In my eyes he's one of the greatest songwriters, composers, and icons of all time. Thank you Phil you are very important to the world, without you i feel alot of music wouldnt be the way it is today. You are important and thank you for ur contribution to the world. you have done more for me than most people in my life have (i know kinda sad).
Thank you and Goodbye
Heres my fav song off the glow pt.2

Hey, can you re-imagine a wholy genderbent Deathnote, is too cursed?
Okay, it is SO funny that you mention this because I was talking to my Long-Distance Best Friend the other day about the fact that there is, apparently, (or at least was, at some point before the strike?) a plan to make a live-action TV series adaptation of this for Netflix. Which is...a whole other thing I don't want to get into, but ANYWAY.
The POINT is that we were talking about what would have to happen to make me have some modicum of hope that this might not be the worst idea ever (remember what happened the LAST time we did live-action Netflix DN, we got the 2017 movie no one needs to live through that again). And what I ultimately came up with was:
Every single character, except for Light and Raye, is now a woman. (Obviously this isn't wholly genderbent, but. It's close enough to this ask that I found it to still be a humorous coincidence.) I think in the hands of the right writer, it could be an interesting examination of misogyny and how baked-in that concept is to the justice system. (And I think it would lend extra context to the fact that Light was able to keep operating for so long. If the people opposing him are all women in a historically male-dominated field, they'd all have to contend with a type of professional and societal discrimination that he'll never have to, thus giving him an advantage. Also L would be a Weird Girl™, which would absolutely raise some interesting questions in terms of the scope of this character's influence and their societal perception. Also femslash Near/Mello would be canonically possible which is OBVIOUSLY the most important factor to take into consideration.)
Soichiro's difficulty in believing Light's guilt would gain an extra dimension if this character were also grappling with the societal expectations of motherhood (especially while being in a position of authority in a """masculine""" career). And Matsuda...I just think some woman, any woman, should get to shoot Light repeatedly in a fit of rage. (Also something-something calling women in the workplace idiots/making them the butt of the joke/consistently overlooking them, I think you could do something there.) I think this theoretical concept I spent way too much time thinking about really only works if, even though the major and supporting characters are women, it's still made clear that they work in an environment overwhelmingly occupied by men.
As for a FULLY genderbent story...Light as a female character is, to me, indeed an idea too cursed. I will not elaborate.
And I don't think the Shinigami experience the concept of gender in the way that we do, so tbh I'm not really sure a whole lot would change in that regard. But I do think a female Ryuk would be very funny.
Naomi being a man I think would be...not cursed, I just don't particularly enjoy it. But mainly that's because I am A Gay™, and I love thinking about women who are tough enough to have the word "massacre" as part of their nickname. :)
Misa being reimagined as a guy could be really interesting, though, given how a) the entertainment industry treats women differently from how it treats men, and b) the world at large generally expects men to react differently to trauma than women do. (Although I still very much prefer the version of Misa that serves as a deconstruction of the Manic Pixie Dream Girl). And I'd be curious to see what the viewer/reader response would be if this character were a man. (Mainly because, historically, audiences are a lot more positively receptive to extreme, unhealthy displays of devotion when they come from a male character than when they come from a female character, but this answer is already probably too long, so we don't have to talk about that.)
(Best Friend ALSO mentioned the idea of Rina Sawayama playing L, and I am now gay on a level I previously didn't ever think was possible, but we don't have to talk about that either.)
Uhhhh....TLDR, full-genderbent DN kind of cursed, but there are some really interesting ideas you could examine. (The one veto I'm gonna make is that I do not think this story works if Light is a girl, but-you guessed it-we really don't have to talk about that.)
Also, stan the stage musical for serotonin and clear skin!

What's your issue with RBG? Asking curiously because I never hear anyone talk badly about her
okay, i want to make it very clear that i do not hate rbg. i love her, i loved her until her last breath, and i took a very long time to mourn her death. she was an inspiration for me as someone who wants to go into law and she still is. i have rbg quotes on my laptop and filed away in my soul.
HOWEVER, as i discuss a lot, we have to be critical of our idols. these people are idols and inspirations for a reason, and we have to hold them to a certain standard and not just blindly praise them for everything they do. (yes this does also apply to a certain very tall blonde singer)
as for rbg, i will always love and admire and celebrate her for her social justice wins, especially in her lifelong fight for gender justice and reproductive rights - and that is what she's best known for and she deserves to be praised and idolized for those aspects of her career.
BUT, as an avid supreme court watcher/research/analyst, i also think it's important that we discuss and pay attention to her voting record while she was on the supreme court. on several occasions, she would employ conservative thinking and vote with the conservative justices. she was very close friends with antonin scalia, perhaps one of the worst conservative justices ever (consider that alito and thomas got a lot of their thought processes from scalia... scalia is easily the most hated by liberal supreme court analysts) and if you think that friendship did not impact her opinions at the court... you'd be wrong. rbg was very willing to support conservative ideas and thinking on certain issues while she was a justice and it is well-documented.
take this quote from a politico article: “[Judge] Ginsburg was known as a restrained and fair-minded judge who did her homework and then some.” She was “considered moderate to conservative on criminal issues and business law,” relatively progressive “on issues such as free speech, religious freedom and separation of church and states,” and more liberal on “civil rights and access to the courts.” (this quote is referring to her time as a judge prior to joining the supreme court)
that same article goes on to list several opinions in which rbg joined conservative justices in the majority, including decisions in 2019 where she voted with justices thomas, alito, and kavanaugh and others where she sided with justice scalia.
now, obviously, rbg help to create the interpretation of the 14th amendment that gave us abortion rights and the right to gay marriage (though she was, herself, critical of roe v. wade). obviously, she's not all bad and i am not refusing her the legacy she built herself. i am merely saying we have to consider the good with the bad and we have to take a realistic view of who she was rather than simply ignoring large parts of her history.

Do you remember when I made a poll? Well I do! And I want to talk about it finally (it's gonna be a long one)
On Sunday, April 23, 2023 I asked tumblr a question: when, in their opinion, was Asriel Dreemurr going to make his first appearance in Toby Fox's Deltarune (other than any potential flashbacks, which Chapter 2 showed us can happen). I've always personally felt that his potential appearance is one of the most important things that the game is building up to (plus he's my favorite Undertale character), so I wanted to gauge the UTDR community's opinion on when (or if) they thought it was going to happen
After leaving the poll open for a week and advertising it on Discord and DeviantArt (for free, if I wanted to throw money at it I would've just blazed it) I got 85 votes + my own 86th (and I also got two new mutuals from it. Shoutout to @eggylad and @ranpulsar, follow them too). The options I presented were:
Chapter 3
Chapter 4
Chapter 5
Chapter 6
Chapter 7
A potential epilogue chapter after Chapter 7
I think Asriel is dead in Deltarune
I think he's alive, but he won't make a live appearance in the game
(show results)
(There is an obvious weakness in the poll, in that it doesn't have an "Other" option. For some reason I was genuinely convinced back then that I'd covered every possible option, but looking back I was probably wrong, as, for example, whether or not he arrives might depend on what ending we get. Feel free to suggest other alternatives)
From day 2 of the poll I wanted to write an analysis of the results, and try and figure out what people who voted for each option thought. I didn't ask anyone about why they voted the way that they did, not even my mutuals, so obviously that's another weakness. But it's also an excuse for me to theorize on Deltarune, and if I'm wrong as to why you voted the way that you did, feel free to correct me
I'm gonna ignore the (show results) option in my analysis, which I hope everyone will understand. I also hope the 7 people who chose it won't mind either. Aside from that, the results break down as follows:
Chapter 3: 4 votes
Chapter 4: 12 votes
Chapter 5: 8 votes (9 if you count my vote)
Chapter 6: 6 votes
Chapter 7: 32 votes
Epilogue: 4 votes
Dead: 4 votes
Alive no show: 8 votes
As we can see, the vast majority of people agree with the broad assumption that Goatbro will appear in-game at some point, though they disagree when
Most seem to think that he'll only first show up in Chapter 7 - and I can see why, for a long time I subscribed to that idea too. After all, Toriel says in Chapter 1 that he's coming home "next week." As long as the game sticks to having each chapter be a consecutive day, Chapter 7 would be just about right time for Asriel's return (same logic extends to the epilogue option, but we don't even know if there will be one, plus the way I phrased the question further helped 7's case, more on that later). Simple. However, I have since come to disagree with this whole theory
Chapters 3-5 being released together as a singular, paid package (hence my name for it: The Paid Package) indicates to me that they will constitute a "Deltarune proper" of sorts, and Chapters 6 and 7 will be the epilogue to provide final closure for the game. More specifically, I believe that The Paid Package will give us An Ending to keep us engaged in the 2-3 year wait, providing some closure to some things, but also building anticipation for the True Ending. A better way to phrase it would be a comparison to Undertale where, when you do a True Pacifist run, you first get a Neutral Ending (The Paid Package), and then play through extra content to unlock the path's true ending (Chapters 6&7)
This of course largely depends on what role Toby wants Asriel to play in Deltarune once he shows up, but I think there is so much about him that could be explored, about his personality, how he might've changed in college, about his relationship with Dess, and so on. I think Toby would want to introduce him sooner rather than later, so he has the time to do all this, and the final two chapters will probably be about stopping The Roaring, so they might have a more urgent feel to them, focusing less on character exploration and more on solving the big crisis. Not that there won't be any character exploration there, just that it'll not be a priority. And for that reason Toby might want to insert Asriel before Chapter 7, so that we get to know him better before he (probably) has to help us stop The Roaring
Which brings me to the Chapter 4 and 5 options, both of which (I think) rely on logic similar to what I described above to conclude that Asriel will feature for the first time in Deltrarune in the Paid Package Ending, although with slight differences enabled by my exact phrasing of the question, and I quote:
Dialogue spoken by him without his body or face being shown count
This is because when I made the poll I imagined that Asriel would make a brief appearance at the Chapter 5's ending cliffhanger, setting him up as a participant of Chapter 6's Dark World adventure, and I wanted for that to make it clear that that would count as Asriel being introduced in Chapter 5. And to me personally it seems that the Chapter 4 voters thought in much a similar way, but a chapter earlier. In other words, they thought that the Dark World adventure with Asriel will be in Chapter 5 rather than 6. And I'm just, incredibly furious that I didn't see that line of reasoning when setting up the poll (or rather, was furious when I wrote this post's original draft back in early May). I only included Chapters 3 and 4 in the poll for completeness' sake, and me not seeing that under my logic Chapter 4 makes just as much, if not more sense than Chapter 5 was a major source of anger for me about the poll. And I think in hindsight, the instant-gratification-seeking part of me would make me vote for Asriel appearing a chapter earlier than I originally voted for
As for Chapter 6, I imagine that the 6 people that voted for it worked under a similar cliffhanger assumption that I described above, and that Chapter 7 would see Asriel in the Dark World for the first time, but if I'm wrong feel free to correct me
The epilogue option, as I said, seems to rely on similar logic as to what I described about voting for Chapter 7, buy 1. not knowing if it'll even exist, and 2. the whole cliffhanger assumption probably led most people considering it to vote for Chapter 7 instead in the end
The Chapter 3 votes got me completely stumped though. Since there were only 4 of them, the only explaination I've got is "trolls and misclicks" but that's probably unfair. Still, I don't see any other logic, so I would appreciate feedback on this
And that brings me to the last two options: Asriel is dead, and Asriel is alive but won't show up. The latter got 8 votes, which indicates to me that it's a relatively serious idea, if less so than him showing up after all. But I can see a kind of logic that would lead to such conclusion, sort of. Kris' arc in Deltarune is probably in no small part about letting go, accepting change (which may incidentally tie into Undertale's message?), and Asriel failing to show up, be it because he's dead, or because other circumstances prevented him, might help with reinforcing that change? Although on the other hand, it would mean that Toby failed to deliver proper payoff to something he set up all the way back in Chapter 1, and has been feeding into with Chapter 2, fueling the intrigue of what happened to Asriel. If he doesn't show up due to a contrivance, I don't think it would make for a very satisfying conclusion to the story, unless handled very carefully. There's also the option that while we don't see Asriel come back to Hometown, it's heavily indicated that is happens off-screen just after the game's end. But I think that would be the worst of both worlds, and Toby wouldn't do this to us
As for Asriel being dead... my first reflex is to say that Toby wouldn't lie to us in such a majorly plot-relevant way. He said Asriel's coming back, and we've got no reason to think he's lying about this. Any potential clues that might say otherwise may well point to there being something more about Asriel, but surely the intent is not to contradict what was said earlier in clear text. Except, there's a good chance that Toby did lie to us in a majorly plot-relevant way. Not about Asriel, we have no way of knowing that, but about choice. After setting up in Chapter 1 that our choices don't matter, in Chapter 2 he did a complete 180 and gave us the Weird Route, with a radically different course and ending to the Normal one. And even if Snowgrave's description as "Fatal" turns out to have been hyperbolic and Berdly's fine actually (which I don't believe, but it is possible), there's still a ton of other, minor choices that still have a lasting impact on the world, such as what NPCs we can bring over to the Castle Town. So, do our choices in Deltarune matter or not? And if Toby did lie to us there, could he lie to us again? I personally think that there is a non-zero chance that, if Deltarune will have two (or more) endings, the one resulting from doing all the Weird Routes might see us, the player force Kris to kill Asriel (or force Kris to force a teammate to do it) But it is way to early to tell, and for now, as long as consensus among the Lighteners appears to be that Asriel is coming back, I'm trusting them
It bears mentioning that I never actually interacted much with the "Asriel is dead" theory, so I don't know all the evidence for it, so this is more of a gut instinct what I just said
But besides. Asriel is waaaaaaaay more interesting alive than dead. So much more potential to tell stories with him in the Deltarune universe. Would Toby really let all that potential go to waste? No. It's his big passion project, the game that he always wanted to make, and the best video game of the 2020s (yes, I'm calling it now. No video game that's better than Deltarune will come out this decade). Asriel is alive because it makes for a better story
So, what do you think? What was the actual reason you voted one way or the other? Do my theories make sense to you? Please engage with me i beg you

today i was tik tok of girl saying violet would have bpd (Borderline personality disorder) but also i search she had major depression mostly and the girl is just saying about how she acted with tate etc. what do you think about it? (sorry if i made mistakes im from Germany😁❤️)
Hey, I was actually diagnosed with BPD as I turned 18 (I’m 28 now). I strongly disagree that Violet had BPD, her behaviour was typical teenage behaviour, added with depression. Lots of teenagers suffer depression and self harm, and it’s more common than people realise for teenagers to struggle with suicidal thoughts.
I think a lot of people misunderstand this condition but one thing that is important to point out is that it cannot be diagnosed in anyone under 18, and often doctors don’t like even diagnosing it in people before their 20s because it’s a very complex condition. It’s something that is typical a lifelong condition, meaning it doesn’t get better. Most people with depression do get better or have large periods of being able to function. A lot of people throw these terms around, especially Bipolar when explaining normal mood swings. People under estimate how much hormones can affect someone’s mental health and cause mood swings. Violet was dealing with a lot of typical things that people go through, parents having issues, bullying, but she did have the added experience of a sibling death.
I’ve mentioned years ago on here, but basically I experienced a trauma during childhood and started self harming from the age of 9. Then when I was 12 my mum had a stillborn when she was almost full term and I got to hold him every day until his funeral (I was given the choice to see him and the funeral and was never forced) but this then impacted me further because it was a very hard thing to see. From this point I developed really bad depression, ended up with stitches from self harm and through my early teens until I was 18 I was in and out of hospital because of self harm and suicide attempts. When I was 16 I got put in a child mental health unit because I was was taking so many overdoses and cutting very deep on impulse. I honestly couldn’t tell you the amount of times I had to go to hospital for hurting myself before the age of 16. My school even had to call an ambulance because I overdosed in the school bathrooms when I was about 15.
When I got out of the unit is when I first saw American Horror Story on television and I felt this immediate connection with Violet.
Sorry I made this a bit personal but I think it’s important to explain why I don’t believe Violet had BPD. Violet was depressed, which is obviously a very common condition and many of us will experience it. BPD is almost always caused by an early childhood trauma, usually sexual abuse or something similar, and this has an impact on someone’s emotional development and personality.
I think people may be assuming Violet has BPD because she made one impulsive decision to overdose on sleeping tablets, but a single or even a couple of impulsive decisions can be made by anyone. I was diagnosed with BPD because I had almost a decade long history of behaviour that was impulsive and was having major issues in my relationships with people (these are both things I have worked on and been improving through my 20s but still struggle). I still receive mental health support and will do for the rest of my life because even in the last 12 months I’ve received medical treatment for incidents or self harming behaviour.
I hope this helps explain things a bit ❤️

hello, hello ^^ could i please ask about 'the memory of you' or 'mineshaft' for ffxv of your wips ? i low-key am curious about all of them xD but those titles i named piqued my interest most
The Memory of You, like nemo, is an older fic of mine and one I adore very much. It's about Noctis and Ardyn getting de-aged by a daemon's spell into their 7 and 10 year old selves, and they have to adventure across the country together as kids, from Cleigne all the way to Hammerhead, to reunite with Noctis's friends so that they can help them turn back into adults. The first 3 chapters have already been posted to AO3 here.
It's basically an enemies-to-friends adventure fic, with Ardyn redemption and big canon divergence. Fluffy cute times and angsty hurt times ensue. It's a long, dangerous journey across the country for two adults stuck in their kid bodies. And on the way they not only learn to cooperate but they learn more about each other. Noctis learns that there's more to Ardyn than just his annoying attitude, and Ardyn sees that Noctis isn't just the instrument of his own vengeance.
Noctis feels guilty about the whole thing because getting turned into kids is basically all his fault and so he wants to help Ardyn return to his adult body, and obviously Ardyn needs Noctis alive and as an adult again to exact his revenge, so of course they're both going to try and protect each other along the way. But then looking out for each other turns out to be a bit of a tricky thing because that leads to caring what happens to each other, that leads to worrying about each other.
And I've really come to love the title for this fic because it just fits so well. Ardyn, while he's in his child form, isn't under the influence of the starscourge. So there's less of a madness to him, it's harder to lose himself in the anger and the hatred without the scourge adding fuel to the fire. Of course, as they start to bond through their adventure, Ardyn has to keep reminding himself why he shouldn't care about Noctis, this doppelganger of his little brother. He has to remember that Somnus betrayed him, he has to remember that the gods and the people "betrayed" him, he has to remember that Aera "betrayed" him--but then he also has to remember why those were betrayals in the first place.
It's a mixture of angst and fluffiness, and I love this fic very very much! Pity it ALSO likes to fight with me AHHHHHHH.
Also, I have to shout out this cover of Somnus by Celestial Aeon Project because it's gorgeous and inspires me so much for this fic and it inspired a major scene and I get goose bumps every time and now Somnus's theme recurring through my fic's playlist is super important lol.
Also here's a little snippet (first drafty writing):
Ardyn didn’t doubt Noctis had at least some adequate skills when it came to combat and, to an extent, espionage. He was a Caelum after all, of royal blood, and Ardyn had gathered enough intelligence from Insomnia over the years that he knew how they worked. They would have trained the boy from the moment he was old enough, practically groomed him over the years to become a soldier.
The problem was, he was clearly used to putting a certain amount of energy into a body that was a lot bigger than the one he currently had. The unfortunate outcome was him stumbling along now, clumsy and uncoordinated, eyes screwing up in embarrassment and frustration.
It was terribly amusing.
Ardyn stayed with him, feeling a surprising and genuine curiosity in watching the scene play out. He crouched down with him in the long grass and pressed his palm to the top of Noctis’s head gently, keeping him down. “No sudden movements,” he said, keeping his voice hushed, his eyes forward on the small rabbit in the grass. “It has large ears, remember, it can no doubt hear us already.”
“Yeah, yeah,” Noctis bit out, just as quiet. “I got it.”
“The last several attempts betrays that statement.”
“They were just practice runs.”
Ardyn nodded, humouring him. “Of course.”
They moved forwards together, the grass brushing against them with soft sounds, heads barely peeking out. Ardyn froze at the right time, kept his hand on Noctis’s shoulder and squeezed to indicate for him to stop. He obeyed silently, body tense and ready, waiting on Ardyn’s word.
He glanced down at the boy, and promptly wished he hadn’t.
It was a familiar sight. Far too familiar for his liking. Those memories should have been buried down, lost amongst all the others, but it stood out in his mind now, stark and bright and fresh. He’d taken Somnus out hunting just like this, when he’d been old enough to try. Ardyn had shown him what their father had taught him, had begun and encouraged the spark for hunting Somnus had within him, until he’d no longer needed Ardyn to teach him any longer.
Ardyn clenched his jaw and swallowed the bitter taste in his mouth as he squashed the image down.

Please do NOT proceed if you haven't read Night Book 1 or any of the Book 2's (preferably Yakumo's as a major spoiler for his story is revealed). This... thing contains major spoilers, and I don't want to be held liable for ruining the story. But I mean, I haven't even read all of the Book 2's, let alone Yakumo's 💀 Proceed if you wish to spoil all of this for yourself. Otherwise, bookmark this or smth and read it afterwards.
It starts under the cut btw. I cannot describe how much time and big brain power I had to put into this 💀
How to Create Youjin Scientifically (DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME)
_________________________________________
Came as a surprise? Me too 💀
(I didn't read over this so I apologise for any spelling mistakes)
Let's just do this slowly.
What we know:
*spoiler for Yakumo is here somewhere*
- Youjin behaviour: violence and aggression, unawareness of their behaviour, increase in physical strength, incoherent speech.
- Experiment process: Capture Ayakashi and rob them of their power using "black sand" bullets, capture humans and lock them up, remove cells from the Ayakashi, preserve cells (I'm assuming), surgically transplant cells into human, you got yourself a Youjin.
- Failed prototypes are discarded but not killed.
- An unknown drug is used in the experiments, and it is vital to the experiments (they cannot commence without the drug).
Update: It was revealed that the drug is Yakumo's blood and it turns people immortal, which is why it's so important.
Right, so. Ayakashi and the vampire are mythical creatures, so how would we be able to do this irl? We'll start at the core. The drug.
The Drug
The behaviour Youjin display are similar to the effects of opioids. Chronic exposure to opioids can cause more aggressive behaviour. Opioids can also cause psychosis, which leads to (only mentioning the relevant symptoms) incoherent language and unawareness of behaviour. Psychosis is also associated with aggressiveness, but it is not in every case. So opioids are made of the poppy plant eg. morphine. Ya know what else is made of poppy seeds? ✨ o p i u m ✨ And we know tons of that was lying around *cough cough* Kagemaru from Ginnojo's book 2 *cough cough* that one event with Ginnojo *cough cough* that one event with Toichiro *cough cough*.
But what about the increase in physical strength?
Anabolic steriods.
Yes, I know they were only synthesised in the 1930s, but we're not talking timelines here. Ignore time in all of this 💀
So, in real life, the drug would most likely be two drugs, those two being an opioid and anabolic steroids.
As a friend said, the "wonder drug" down, what next? Transferring cells ofc.
Now, we obviously don't have Ayakashi, so we will have to use animals. But is it possible?
Transferring of Cells: Is It Possible?
Short answer: Yes.
It is entirely possible to transfer the cells of an animal into a human, it just won't do anything. The human body will reject the cells and nothing will happen.
So, what's next? The hard part is next, that's what. It's surgery time baby.
"But what about not being able to transfer the cells? 🙄" stfu Linda (no offense to any Lindas that are reading this, I am sure you are wonderful ppl).
Let me explain:
(Once again, we are taking time and throwing it out the window. Or would this whole thing make more sense in a modern au? Either way, time is non-existent right now.)
Transferring of Cells: The Surgery
We have to understand that a physically-possible Youjin (why am I calling it that) wouldn't be immortal or carry extraordinary abilities. It would probably just have increased strength, no genetic diseases and no genetic mutations.
That being said...
We can't combine the DNA of animals and humans, but we CAN genetically modify the DNA of a human. Although, that is only being used to fix genetic mutations, not to create new genes.
I mean, you COULD create a new gene by mixing DNA strands together to create a synthetic gene. But you'll need a DNA molecule 7 000 nucleotides long for it to be large enough to make an entire gene. It is technically possible, but it's gonna take forever.
Anyways, genetically modifying humans has been around for a while. HOWEVER, it can only be done to embryos. There also isn't a 100% chance that cell rejection won't happen. If we're talking about what modifications will be done to a physically-possible Youjin (I need to rename them), then it will remove mutations. These being diseases, mainly. This doesn't exactly make the human immune to every disease, just the genetic ones. So the human can still contract other diseases, unfortunately.
Current society believes that these modifications excludes these genetically modified humans from what makes a human human. That being their differences. I don't exactly agree with that, but it's society. What can I do against society?
KEY THING TO NOTE WHICH I SHOULD HAVE SAID EARLIER: From all the articles I found (because yes, I did have to do some research), no genetically modified human has gone past the embryo stage. With technology constantly advancing, in the future, it may be possible to genetically grow a human (oh my goodness ew that sounds so wrong 💀) It is speculated that the human would not resemble its mother and will live up to 30 years, probably. All speculation. In this case though, we're going to pretend that it IS possible to develop the embryo into a baby, and for the baby to grow into an adult that lives up to the average human death age (why didn't I say life expectancy) of 72 years.
So, to sum it all up, an embryo would be modified to have no mutations (genetic diseases) in place of transferring animals cells because that will just lead to cell rejection.
Okay, cell transfer down. What next? The differences between ARR Youjin and my Youjin (renamed them, but now I feel bad for calling them mine. Heck, I'm the OP. Technically they're mine 💀)
The Differences
I'm just gonna tabulate it somehow.
ARR Youjin:
- The drug is Yakumo's blood and turns the human immortal.
- The human's cells are mixed with Ayakashi cells.
- Youjin behaviour is due to the experiments.
- Youjin are "programmed" to follow a specific order.
My Youjin (still feel weird calling them mine 💀):
- The drug is two drugs: an opioid and anabolic steroids.
- Human DNA is genetically modified to remove mutations.
- Youjin are not immortal.
- Youjin behaviour is due to drug overdose.
- Youjin are "non-programmable". A list of behavioural outcomes can exist, but the probability cannot be determined.
And finally, what you probably clicked here for, the actual process.
How to Create Youjin
1. Harvest a human embryo.
2. Genetically modify the embryo to remove all mutations.
3. Let the thing develop into a baby.
4. Raise the baby under laboratory conditions.
5. Once the child reaches the age of twelve, start giving it a daily dose of an opioid (whichever you want) and anabolic steroids. The steroids dosage should be less than the opioid. These doses should be enough for the child, matching with the height and weight of the child.
6. Gradually increase the doses over the years, until the child is twenty years old.
7. At this point, the dosage of opioids should increase tremendously, and the dosage of steroids should lessen. Overtime, the steriod would have given the adult enough strength, but the opioids needs to increase to increase the chance of developing psychosis.
8. By the mid-30s, if the adult has not developed psychosis, it is a failed prototype and should be discarded (admitted into a psych hospital). If the adult has developed psychosis and the effects are showing clearly, it is now a Youjin. Its behaviour should be monitored at all times, and it should only be used when necessary.
_________________________________________
And there you have it. How to create a Youjin. I made Youjin omfl- 💀 I don't even think you can call them Youjin anymore because mine aren't that similar to ARR's.
Well anyways, this took two hours and I'm proud of it, somehow. Sorry if it's long, I think I got carried away with explanations. I hope you enjoyed reading this anyway. AND DO NOT TRY IT AT HOME. IT IS ILLEGAL.
I feel like I might get arrested for this, idk why 💀 My back is rlly sore rn, so imma go. I'll see yall tomorrow <3
F**k I got a test tomorrow and I didn't study, I was busy making Youjins shi-

Please talk about Macaulay and Paris's relationship
this made my night better because this is my favorite topic
the important thing to note prior to getting into anything, is that mack's paternal instincts have always been a major part of who he is. natasha lyonne called him "the patriarch to his beautiful siblings" (fuck you kit) just last week. the major reason that mack took back his finances was so he could give his mother the money to keep her apartment and help raise the kids. when the apartment burned down (eye roll), mack and his then wife took in the kids. obviously the major reason mack has been even more reclusive than normal in recent years is bc of the birth of his children. it has always been his dream to be a good father and have a happy family.
mack's relationship with mj is obviously a crucial part of the backstory. he has described their friendship of not being necessarily a father/son one, but one of two equals. what is incredibly important about that distinction is that for mack, having a father only meant manipulation and abuse. mj treating him like an equal and giving him a safe space to be a child was a major refuge for mack, especially when he was being treated and being told he was nothing but a cash cow. obviously, as mack has said, mj resonated with mack's super stardom and controlling father. it was largely the reason their friendship began, and while we don't know a ton of details about their relationship after like 1992, it is evident how important it remained to mj until the end and how important it remains to mack today.
mack was made prince and paris's godfather when he was 17-18, while an elderly liz taylor was made the godmother. of all the people in mj's life, siblings, family, friends, etc, mack was entrusted with this honor, which says SO much about mj's view of him and trust in him (we don't know much about his relationship with prince, as prince largely strays away from the spotlight). in his auto biographical parody book (that's rly not a parody and is just a comedic retelling), prince and paris are mentioned in the dedications (on the list of people he hates, joe jackson is listed which always makes me smile) and he tells a story about hanging out at toy stores late at night w a pop star and his children. there's video footage of mack at one of their birthday parties and obviously the famous photo of the three of them watching michael on stage.
we know that after the '05 running into each other in the bathroom during the trial, mack and mj didn't see each other again, but remained in touch with the occasional phone call. mack has praised mj for his dedication to his children during that time, and attended his funeral in '09.
obviously, mack is known for being reclusive and once she got her modeling contract, paris became a very public and open figure. over those years, we got glimpses into their relationship. they have matching tattoos (mack's only tattoo) of spoons, which is an inside joke that they have. paris has spent holidays with mack, particularly one thanksgiving spent in paris with him and brenda. one of the most notable moments was paris introducing her then-girlfriend cara to mack and brenda.
when asked about paris in his interview with marc maron, mack stated: "i am close with paris. i'm going to warn you now, i'm very protective of her, so just look out. i am a very open book when it comes to things, but with her, she is beloved by me."
while paris often posts about mack, mack never does the same about paris. even when speaking ab mj, he doesn't mention paris sans this one time. i believe the reason for this is because mack knew how mj tried to shield his children from the vulturous media, and wants to respect that. i also think a major component to why mack is the perfect godparent for paris is that mj did everything he could to protect mack, and mack wants to extend the same to paris.
paris is constantly critized for not talking about her father enough, and she should be allowed to keep their relationship private if she so chooses. something that is so important to remember is that mj passed when paris was a very little girl. perhaps this is why she finds solace in mack - he got to grow up with mj, while she was never given that luxury.
seeing her attend his walk of fame ceremony was incredibly emotional and touching. i was surprised that she came bc mack is so intensely private about their relationship, but their love and support for each other (always attending events for the other privately is a mainstay for them) is so evident and i know it meant so much to him to have her there.
as paris put it at the ceremony, it's more than a friendship, it's family.
