I have seen a lot of hate for BotBots on social media sites so I want to share my thoughts on it. Please note that I have consumed every cartoon, movie, and almost every comic over the past 30+ year history of the franchise and that variety is key to have a long lasting fandom like Transformers.

I think it's very refreshing when my kids (17 and 9, respectively) and I (an older 30 something) can enjoy the same Transformers show. We are 3 very different Transformers fans in terms of what and who we like, but there we were this morning laughing hysterically over BotBots. We binge watched the entire 10 episodes. My kids and I have nothing but love for this show, and if you go in expecting nothing, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised.

But why are some fans so hellbent on hating a show like this? Why constantly demand all shows cater to one specific type of fan? It seems silly to limit the potential of bringing in new young fans. Times change, and you have to accept that Transformers has to change with it.

Because let's be real, Transformers wasn't always a dark, dreary colorless drama for adults. G1 was a bright, colorful toy ad to appeal to the youth of the 1980s, and the characters were filled with humor and personality relevant to that generation. Botbots nails that very same concept for a modern day kids audience and I applaud this show for not being another depressing, edgy, heavy political drama full of stuffy and pretentious dialouge in some half assed attempt to please snooty geeks who want to gatekeep children out of a fandom that is based on toys.

Alien robots are for everyone. There is no rule that states all Transformers content must cater to adults only all the time. There's also no rule that says Transformers is just for kids. The truth lies somewhere in the middle.

Botbots did whatever the heck it wanted to do (there's a whole episode centered on LARPing, another one about going to Prom, and one episode has Burgertron admitting he writes fanfic!) and it all works great because it doesn't care what "hardcore" or "real" fans think. The levels of chaos and insanity in this show is glorious, but so is the relatable-ness of the main chatacters. It's truly heartwarming to see those little bots trying to find their way amongst their own kind that repeatedly rejects them for being too different or for messing everything up just by existing. Kinda like how I feel in the Transformers fandom most of the time.

And of course the serious political drama side of Transformers has a place in the fandom too. Just because I love TFPrime and the MTMTE/LL comics, doesn't mean I have to stop loving Car Robots and Cyberverse.

This post is not bashing those who enjoy the Netflix trilogy/Combiner Wars trilogy or the current comics. I love them dearly, as I love all TF media, and they deserve to exist in the fandom. I'm glad they do.

This post is about how some fans have been trying to keep out new or younger ones by being hyper critical toward a show with a different target audience than what they are. Bashing the fans who enjoy stuff like BotBots or Rescue Bots is ultimately unhelpful. It drives people away from participating in fandom spaces, making diversity of thought in those fan places stagnant.

New fans = growth. Growth = more cool new stuff. It's not advanced science folks. (Leave that to Brainstorm and Shockwave please.)

This post is about making room for a variety of shows and being inclusive to all fans, whether they like IDW, Bayverse, the Unicron trilogy, BW, RiD2015, or whatever. And for a fandom that revolves around characters physically changing their bodies, some of y'all ironically have issues accepting changes.

It's sad that adult fans can't appreciate humor and joy in animated shows anymore and feel the need to rip on stuff like BotBots or Rescue Bots Academy to somehow make their own nerd butts look superior. Because in their minds, why should Transformers be fun or inclusive for everyone?

I've been told numerous times that those who don't like the more mature content within the fandom don't matter or belong here 🙄 which brings up something else I've been wanting to say to some adult fans on various TF Facebook pages:

Black Lives Matter. If you have a problem with two black kids being the main characters in the upcoming new show Earthspark, then gtfo of this fandom and go die mad about it you racist twatwaffles. It absolutely enrages me to see adults make gross racist comments about children, and hate like that has no place in this fandom.

I look forward to watching Earthspark with my kids and giving it a chance, as well as seeing Anthony Ramos and Dominique Fishback in the new live action Transformers movie 'Rise of the Beasts' next summer.

Because at the end of the day, if I can get a cool action figure to add to my collection, see the joy in my kids eyes as we spend time together watching a cartoon, read people's indepth analysis of characters, or give likes to cool fanarts by talented people inspired by Transformers, then it's all worth it. That's some of the stuff that makes our fandom so much fun, and that is what keeps me coming back for the past 30 years now, and hopefully 30 more years yet to come.

It did feel a little ridiculous to think the avatar of gluttony would be bothered by your size but you still couldn't help but feel worried

Apple Juice Royalty au!

Some of you might have seen my posts about it but basically i have created an au in which Epel is a prince and Deuce is a knight. I will talk more about them with their chatacter sheets ♡♡

First up our new prince Epel! If you cant read my handwriting I'll type it all out here

Epel is new prince adopted by the king. Under what circumstances, I'm not sure. Its possible his parents died and he was left all alone before Vil scooped him up. Despite what hes been given he's really miserable having to stay in the castle and learn a totally new dialect and manners and study all the time. He hates it. He wants to leave, and so he does. Epel escapes his home often. Also he's basically a disney princess at this point lol

About the outfit: Its based off of epel's dorm uniform and i also used some references from pinterest and Halloween costumes lol

Next is King Vil!

Vil became king, most likely when his father died. He decided to adopt an heir early on to save himself the trouble, but it really caused more trouble than it prevented. Epel's a handful and also really angsty. Dealing with him is bothersome, especially when he somehow keeps escaping even when Vil posts more and more guards around the castle, he always gets out somehow. It used to make him angry but he decided it wasn't worth the stress after a little while. Now he just sends people to go look for him whenever he escapes.

About the outfit: I used the same combination of references as I did for Epel, but i was also able to take influence from the evil queen.

Knight Deuce Spade!

Deuce is a new knight trying to do everything right and make his mother proud. His backstory is the same as it is in canon. Wanting to do right by everyone ends up with him taking his job a little too seriously but he's also terrible at the job he tries so hard at. He's not a good fighter and also dumb. But lucky for him, nothing truly dangerous ever happens in their country.

His conflict is wanting to do his job right and also being head over heels for epel and wanting to see him happy.

Chief Riddle Rosehearts!!

Riddle is another who takes his job very seriously. And he has to. He's the Chief knight and is thus the leader. Everyone has to follow his lead, no ifs ands or buts about it. If you argue, he'll yell at you and thats never fun.

Riddle is the guy Vil calls on whenever Epel escapes. At this point whenever Riddle is called in, this is what he expects the reason is. Riddle puts his all into finding Epel everytime and honestly cares more about it than everyone else does.

About the outfit: I couldn't find many refs of the kind of armor i was going for but it was fine. I took a lot of inspiration from his overblot form. Ignore the fact that he's on a tilt.

A lil plot i guess

Epel started sneaking out not too long after he became a prince. As soon as he had settled in he got tired of it. So he'd just leave. These early escapades happened at night whenever Epel was feeling especially emo. He'd normally go to the horse stables and take a ride to clear his mind, or climb a tree and stargaze, something like that. Stuff princes shouldn't do. He'd never leave the castle grounds, though. His secret was only exposed when Deuce found him. He should have reported Epel but that weakness for pretty boys and the empathy he's known for prevented him. It was basically love at first sight when Deuce saw Epel up close for the first time, not that Epel could tell.

After that, Deuce and the other knights (besides riddle) who gradually found out began helping Epel truly escape, like out into the real world. With their help, He could be out for a few days, or weeks even. And as Epel and Deuce start spending more time together, they get closer and closer 👀

My other ships might be here too but I don't really want to design an outfit for Rook lol so mostly just TreyRid on the sidelines maybe.

I do want to make a comic but uhhghnbchg i always quit those lmao I get so unmotivated.

same anon as before, i actually fully agree. i feel a little bad criticizing both types of fans but i honestly think its worth doing. i love the crunch and technical stuff that i get when actually playing d&d but i guess i dont look for the same level of it in a show because at the end of the day theyre entertainers putting out a product, but i fully agree that when people expect perfect characterization and super consistent pacing and all that they just need to be reading books lmao. like i think fantasy high was really fun and i fixated on d20 for months but i almost immediately liked naddpod better once i started listening because imo it honors the collaborative and cooperative nature of the game better. i like brennan a lot as a storyteller and i think his campaign settings are great but d20 definitely does a lot more handwaving and feels much more on the rails; i remember watching the seven and feeling like there was so little possibility for the players to fail that even poor dice rolls didn't get things to too dire of a place that often. Anyway god what a rant on my part and not even that coherent but i feel like youre always putting stuff i feel about these things into words so well !

I def had a similar experience with d20 and naddpod! I think d20 is easier to get into because of the high production value, sets, video and shorter campaigns but the tradeoff is that it does have to be p on the rails cause they have the sets ahead of time and production schedules. I personally definitely feel that naddpod captures the spirit of d&d a lot more and it having a smaller party and being independent allows it to really go with the game and do some really cool things (thinking abt the whole endoterra crew - that kind of thing could never happen on d20).

also yeah I def agree with that abt the seven, they talked a lot abt whomping brennan but it really didn't feel like the fights were that difficult (esp when you compare them to the fights in the intrepid heroes seasons which are always so intense). I do think a big part of it is the length of the season, I just thing the 10 episodes season they've been doing arent super working. to me they either feel a little too long and drawn out (mice and murder) or too short and like they had to squeeze everything (the seven). but honestly that aside, my biggest problems with the seven is just the concept. I dont think d&d is great for prequels and spinoffs in general. when it's something like pirol where all of the characters are new and it's just exploring a part of the world more it works but when you take npcs that are actually relevant to the campaign and let people play them as pcs they're gonna change in ways that don't make sense with the original campaign. penny is a good example of that - I do really like becca's characterisation of her, but at the same time I was like this doesn't seem like someone riz would be friends with. they all played great pcs, but the chatacters feeling so different from their original characterisation was really jarring and I just really don't think d&d is the best medium for that type of thing.

another thing that made it realy hard for me to get into the seven from the beginning is how emotional the first episode is. don't get me wrong, I love a good emotional episode - fearful symmetry in d20, greed anger heresy in bahumia and too late in eldermourne are v emotional and also some of my fave actual play episodes, but the thing they all have in common is they're p late in the game. all of them are after at least 20 episodes of play where you got to know and love these characters and you care abt their relationships and feelings and lives. the seven had a huge v emotional inter party fight with a lot of deep personal moments and one on one conversations for each pc that took up 45 minutes in the first episode, and I remember watching it and just being like. I... don't really care about this at all. I don't know these characters or their relationships to each other, I don't care if they stay a party or break up, I've only known them for like half an hour. I think big emotional conflicts are v fun and interesting but I also think they need to be earned for them to actually work, yknow?

Why do you dislike dazai?

That's a great question, glad someone finally asked! ^-^

☆Just before I explain, I'd like to mention that I think Dazai is a very interesting character despite my dislike of him. These two are not synonymous to me!☆

Anyway, without further ado...

The reason I don't like Dazai is- surprise, surprise, his mindset.Since he was first introduced to the viewrs, Dazai has had an eerie aura around him, coming from his behaviour (suicidal and happy-go-lucky at the same time) which, in my opinion, gave him a lot of potential. Yet, every time a new information about him came up, my fondness of him faded. Why?

See, he is obviously very intelligent, but what struck me was how little he actually used this advantage in discovering the world around him.The way I see it, Dazai's views on the world are very rigid, despite his seemingly fluid behaviour, and it seems like he purposely accepts only theories/examples that will go along with his already fixed opinions. In this way he is no different than, let's say, Kunikida or Chuuya, but still, there is one thing that sets these chatacters appart- and that is will to improve.This is something Dazai simply doesn't posses, meaning he is too stubborn to try and understand other possibilities...until they are shoved in his face, and even then there's a maybe.

Let's look at the situation with Oda, which was an important, if not the most important, event in Dazai's life.We may not know how they met, but we do know why Dazai decided to stick around- because Oda was interesting, or should I say strange. By this it does seem like Dazai is trying to understand him, which disproves what I said earlier, but does it really mean that? Now it's a good time to ask why was Dazai interested in Oda's behaviour?In my opinion, the answer is quite simple. He was initially just using him to help him understand how does yet another human charachter type work, just like he did with other people he met. This still followes his rigidity as he didn't want to know fundamentals, just a superficial way of working. Why do I think this? Because not once during their relationship did Dazai think of looking deeper into his friend, not to mention rethinking his own perspective of life.

Now fast forward to Oda's death, and we see a complete change of heart. Why so?He realised that, not only is his favourite hobby now gone forever, but that Oda's feelings for him were indeed pure, and that his own were as well. He unknowingly went against his own rules (had emotions) and that perplexed him, so in his mind he decided that what Oda said on his deathbed must be worthy of recognision.

The pain he felt during this time was probably more than he had felt in all of his life and that's why he aligned with the Armed Detective Agency. He hopes he can feel again, not pain of course, but any other emotion that might remind him of his lost friend.But his hopes soon faded resulting in him not finding a new understanding of life, but instead keeping his old views and just adding, basically, a command.

Dazai never truly changes, whether it's because of stubborness or from fear (probably both), but either way I think he is slowly getting worse, at least internally. This is where his relationships and work within the ADA come to play.As expected, he tries to follow Oda's last words, but still makes no effort to understand them. His colleagues are nothing more than toys because they are easy to use/read, and his tactiques in solving cases heavily rely on his "mafia mindset" which only encourages him in remaining at the same spot in his life. Even his mask is the exact same upbeat, mischievous behaviour he used before.The only "exception" being Atsushi, whom he walues just slightly more because of his gullibility, and I suppose he may feel some simpathy for him. In a way, he sees Atsushi simply as a perfect fit for following what Oda asked of him- AND he'll leave a decent legacy, since his student is amazed by him.

So basically, Dazai is mentally still 18 (or maybe even younger). He is selfish, stubborn thus has minimal progression in his mindset, emotional coward, and is dishonest to himself (thinking he's on the right path) as well as others around him (giving them a fake reassurance).

I assume that he is somehow aware of this in the darkest depths of his mind and that it subconsciously tears him apart.

What's also worth mentioning is that his personality was shown to be wicked from the start, but blossomed when he got wrapped in Mori's hands...still, it doesn't make much sense to me how he remained this way with all the freedom and blessings he had.

All in all, he simply isn't a person I could respect on many levels...Could I give him sympathy- hell yes, but respect is off limits, for now.
