2015 was when they all wanted to leave the group, but because of 5H's contract they couldn't (i believe 5h label always wanted Camila to go solo and they were secretly screwing her over in 5h so she had no choice but to leave, thats why she hired her on lawyer) 2016 came and Fifth Harmony's label wanted Camila to leave the group so they could make profit off Camila's solo music, Camila didn't want to leave just yet and wanted to make one more album with the girls, they were all supposed to disband together. I don't know if anyone remembers this, but in 2016 some contract got leaked which showed for the 7/27 tour Camila didn't make any money from it and she wont make money off any future 5h songs, because she never renewed her contract with 5h, however I believe 5h label never asked her to renew it, and thats why she didn't know she wasn't going to make money from the tour. However Camila wanted to continue and finish the tour for the fans despite not being paid. This is where all the shady business went on. Camila and MGK received a gold certification plaque for bad things in 2016, that same day they received the plaque Camila got kicked from the group. I think 5h managers and Epic made some kind of contract behind Camila's and the girls back so that if bad things was a success like IKWYDLS they would immediately terminate Camila's contract from 5h. And then the whole Camren situation, I think late 2015 to 2016 camren were having problems in their relationship (they were never official, just used to hook up with eachother, they had too much to lose if they got together) Lauren started dating Lucy and Camila hated it. When Lauren got outed there was also no way 5h label was ever going to let Camila come out as well. Seeing Lauren and Lucy together was slowly killing Camila because she wasn't afraid to be with Lauren, Lauren was afraid to be with her. Lauren knew Camila wanted more but she always kept it casual, I think today Lauren knows she hurt Camila and understands she was in the wrong and they've both now moved past it. Lauren in 2016 was more selfish in the sense that she cared more about herself and image and was afraid of what people would think about her. With all that happening and everything with her label Camila could have got more lawyers and renewed a new contract with 5h, but in the end her mental health was more important so she agreed to leave the group, despite it not being want she wanted to do. The girls all felt betrayed about her leaving especially since 5h team and label were towards the end trying to create a rift between Camila and the girls, telling them all different things about eachother, which created a lot of miscommunication. They all now have been in contact with eachother and realised it was the label that created a rift between them, and they've now all forgiven eachother. I don't think they can talk about anything that went on in 5h because of contracts, even though they're no longer with EPIC, its kinda like an NDA we'll just have to give it a few more years for that to be officially over to get the real truth.

Of everything you've said there is only one thing I can agree with you on. THEY FUCKED UP WITH THE GIRLS.

And they did it through completely abusive contracts that I am sure are still active and that is why they are the way they are.

The text was both forward and confusing. I knew what Z meant. They wanted me to come to the docs. At night. Which I would never do, considering I didn't know who this person was and it was shaping to be a cliché scene from a B-rated horror movie. But the other half of me was itching to know who this person was.

That's how I ended up here, at the docs at midnight. The night summer breeze was cool, which only made colder by the waves crashing and there was no one...at least that I saw.

"Hello?"

I immediately mentally kick myself. You think I would learn from watching horror films but apparently I have learned nothing.

Turning around to leave, I am greeted - more like jump scared - by a person wearing an all black outfit with their face covered by the all too recognizable butcher's mask.

My eyes go wide as I realize it's a trap and I begin running back toward the street as the butcher runs after me. But their faster. I am grabbed from behind and pushed against one of the big barrels of water they used to catch crab in.

"Wait-I-"

Not surprisingly, the butcher begins to dunk me into the barrel, lucky for me though, there are no crabs in the barrel.

They hold me underwater and I feel my mind go fuzzy and just as I begin to lose conscience, I am pulled out of the water and carefully sat on the ground and before I fully lose conscience, I hear the familiar voice of Ray telling me to breath and for a split second I feel safe with one person I hate most and wrap my hands around him, hugging him.

When I open my eyes, I am greeted by the harsh sunlight beaming in. I groggily sit up and examine my surroundings. It felt like I was on a boat...

Just then, the door to the bedroom opens and to my surprise, it's Ray...bringing in a tray of food.

"You're awake!"

"Y-yeah. Where the hell am I?"

He puts the tray on the table besides me. "Its okay, you're safe. You're on my boat."

"Oh."

awkward silence comes between us.

"I followed you...last night when you went to the docs. That's how I found you. I scared them away."

"You...did?"

The shock of Ray Lister saving me puts me into silence.

"Thanks...Ray."

Saying his first name feels weird...but I like how it sounds.

"Of course. I brought you breakfast and a change of clothes. I'll be just out there if you need anything. Okay?"

"Okay. Thank you."

He gives me a tight lipped smile before leaving the room.

I Know What You Did Last Summer

Lois Duncan is known for her young adult literature, and most notably, her novel I Know What You Did Last Summer, which upon first glance would appeal to those interested in the slasher film of the same name. The book is much different from this, but that does not mean horror fans will leave unsatisfied. The main draw in IKWYDLS is its suspense, something prominent in its slasher counterpart, but deeply present throughout the novel. The central group of teens are responsible for a hit-and-run, where they killed a small boy when driving home from a party in the mountains. Each character copes differently. Ray packs his things and moves across the country, Barry flings himself into the college lifestyle, much to the dismay of Helen, who moves out of home to fully pursue her dream of being on television. Julie tries to move on as best she can by preparing for college, but it all comes crashing down when she receives a letter with the titular phrase written on it. The mystery begins here: who wrote the letter, and how much do they know?

Originally set in the 70s, the story has been revamped for a more modern audience, complete with cell phones and up-to-date historical references (for example, a character who originally fought in Vietnam now served in Afghanistan). While the updated version tries to adapt to the current reader base, the technology aspect of the story falls flat and does not seem integrated into the plot well. In my opinion, the original setting of the novel is far less disconnected, and would appeal to readers who enjoy shows such as Stranger Things or I Am Not Okay With This. While most of the draw for Summer comes from the thriller, the book genre subverts this expectation while still managing to be a darker story, something that stands apart from the oversaturated high fantasy enemies-to-lovers plots. 

My song choices in this playlist attempt to combine the old and new versions of the text, and focus more on the tension between the characters rather than trying to conform to a specific genre of music. While not lyrically relatable to the plot, Phanta by Le Tigre captures the feeling of not knowing the next steps to take in a crisis, and Christmas Kids by Roar could act as a stand-in for the traditional Villain Monologue readers are treated to at the end of the novel. (I may have added some puns in here as well- see Cop Car, Rubberneckers, and Shut Up And Drive.)

4. OK to be honest i havent seen that many late 90s movies in general so the options were limited. we have Scream 2 and IKWYDLS which are both. Fine. But i'll have to give the spot to Perfect Blue! Second time plugging a Satoshi Kon movie in an ask game today but I can't help it if Perfect Blue is very good (im not crazy about the ending twist but everything else is so good)

33. i could pick so many great horror friendships but a good recent one is the friendship between Lisa and Taffy in Lisa Frankenstein :-) i just like that Taffy could have easily been the mean popular evil stepsister to our outsider protagonist, but she's actually upbeat and tries to be supportive of Lisa while they still have flaws with each other. It was a nice little complicated relationship.

54. Gotta say Repo the Genetic Opera for this one. Nobody can pry me away from my preteen favorite movie that i watched enough times to have it memorized in my head for boring classes but on the other hand this movie is gory and gross and incredibly, incredibly stupid. also there are so many terrible lyrics especially toward the beginning that make it a little embarrassing. you just wont Get It the way i do if you first watch it after your brain is done developing!!

their first time was assumed by both of them to be their one and only time, then dean comes back from hell. as soon as bobby is gone, and before dean can try to deflect, sam makes sure that dean knows that he doesn’t regret what they did and that things can be as they were before. dean (lying) tells sam that he doesn’t feel that way about sam anymore, that it’s like hell rewired his brain. it’s hard to tell if sam actually believes this, but he accepts it and they move on

4x01-4x13 could mostly stay the same. dean’s jealousy would be amped way up. dean already knows that sam told ruby that he and dean had sex when dean found out that the “so are you two like... together?” girl was actually ruby. but we see how it happened in the IKWYDLS flashback when ruby is trying to seduce sam while he isn’t sober. and it could be both another reason why sam doesn’t want to taint himself any further and how ruby finally coerces him. like in the show he’s comforted by the fact that she acts like dean and it’s complex because they also have a weird parental/sexual relationship, all of it clouding his judgement

but like back then and with dean’s return, it’s not that sam actually reciprocates their feelings but everything has just gotten so confusing. sam telling dean that they could go back to normal was also for his own sake, and now again they both decide not to unpack all that. as for sex and violence…dean still wants a submissive little brother who worships him, the added sexual nature, however, is very much sam-specific. but because the siren was giving dean not just the perfect brother but the perfect sam then that would translate too. so add all of that and the extra ruby parts to their fight. then the aftermath would be even messier (it would need to be addressed, not glossed over like in the actual show). obviously dean was lying about hell erasing his sexual feelings for sam and sam has had enough and tries to make dean talk to him about everything, which doesn’t go over well

afterwards things go the same as in the show (except the monster at the end of this book is 100% more uncomfortable, their meeting chuck and finding out about wincest, which they quickly move past) until when the levee breaks. i like the headcanon that dean noncons sam, but in my version dean is a hallucination. and sam doesn’t realize it is until afterwards. sam’s conscience uses dean as a mouthpiece to reinforce that sam is a monster for drinking the demon blood and using his powers and for having sex with dean and ruby. then sam hallucinates mary after that and encourages himself to do what needs to be done because he still has a chance to do something good. then sam & dean have their fight in the motel, but i wouldn’t want them to address dean still having those feelings for sam (that’s for s5) because i like it just as it is. and then they kill ruby, dean retaking his claim over sam

How do you imagine Sam and Dean would have first sex? When do you think it is most likely to happen?

i’m going to add onto what i wrote in this post with them starting in s3 and then i’ll go through how it would build up across the following seasons

i think it makes more sense for their sexual relationship to start in s3 instead of the later seasons, if you wanted to try to fit it into canon (this is probably a snoozefest for others but it’s how i like to play with spn). realistically the show making the decision/receiving network permission to introduce it after so long is highly unlikely and would alienate a vast majority of their audience. so let's just pretend that it was planned from the show’s very beginning and the actors knew what they signed up for

s3: same as what i already wrote, but this post by @28confusedthoughts reminded me of dream a little dream of me, i had forgotten that was in s3. my version is that while they’re separated inside dean’s mindscape sam sees some sort of manifestation (either a dream!dean or a dream!sam&dean) that reveals dean’s hidden feelings. i’d have dean know that sam found out but sam doesn’t know that dean knows he did. dean’s convinced himself that now that sam has finally realized exactly how twisted dean is he’ll never want anything to do with him ever again (we already know this will never happen)

dean is on edge waiting for the fallout but sam does a good job at pretending like everything is normal. he had his initial shock/revoltion but sam understands that the role john thrust upon dean and the nature of their upbringing would explain why he developed these feelings (it certainly explains a lot of his past behavior), and that it’s not dean’s fault. what sam saw is ingrained into his mind and it makes him sick, but he decides not to do anything about it because although he always tries to get dean to talk about his feelings, this time it’s just too much for sam. and dean doesn’t have a lot of time left so why put them both through it. then mystery spot is next where sam is trapped in his grief, his only purpose being to avenge dean, to do whatever it takes. after sam gets dean back and he's still bound for hell, that's when sam starts to consider what his other “whatever it takes” for dean would entail

but it isn’t until the night before no rest for the wicked when dean has just over 30 hours left and is starting to hallucinate that sam goes off on his own and prays (out-loud so the audience can get some sam introspection). sam has loved and idolized dean as long as he can remember, and he feels like he owes dean whatever he can give for always taking care of him (he doesn’t, but sam believes it). however, his struggle with his purity is at odds with this. sam asks god for some sort of sign to tell him what to do (nothing happens), then he decides that it’s worth it because dean is more important than anything to him. sam doesn’t tell dean any of this when he comes back and confesses that he knows how dean feels about him because sam doesn’t want to make dean feel like he’s taking advantage of him (any more than he already does). so sam initiates and after repeatedly reassuring dean that he wants to do this, dean takes it from there and sam lets him worship him

I don't believe so, no. We had fun writing that one, but over the years I've become convinced that IKWYDLS fans would have probably disliked it. It had very, very little to do with the source material, outside of the title.

Horror on TV and its Gay Representation.

This is simply a quick little thing about two Horror tv series I want to talk about!

As you can see from their respective promotional posters, I’m here to talk on the continuation of the Chucky franchise in TV format. 

And the TV remake/adaption of I know What You Did last Summer. 

Why these two? Because I haven’t gotten around to watching Midnight Mass or Brand New Cherry Flavor yet! Now before I say anything else, let me give a huuuuuge spoiler warning for at least the first 3 episodes of Chucky and the first 6 of IKWYDLS, you’ve been warned! 

Now besides being the only Horror TV I’m currently sinking my teeth into, these shows have one other thing in common. And that is actual gay characters and gay story lines. Of course, as a Horror fan that isn’t always the main reason I check in every week to see what happens, but it is a reason for me personally. I’m a gay guy who enjoys seeing gay rep in horror- in any fashion so long as it’s not some outdated stereotype(Sorry, looking at you ‘Freaky’ movie). To be fair to Freaky though, gays like the character of Josh obviously do exist and I am in no way trying to bury their representation- But they could have written him way better and you know it.

Anyway, back to the actual media of discussion. Queer characters! Hooray, that’s amazing, right? Well...In I know what you did last summer’s case- If you’re a wlm enjoyer, then yes- sort of! However, if you’re like me; mlm enjoyer...I got some bad news for ya. Because in the first episode we are introduced to the charming, thoughtful character of Johnny. And boy was I excited to see what they’d do with him. He wasn’t some overly dramatic gay man stereotype(although he does fall into the ‘Gay best friend’ category), he was just a guy who happened to be gay! Great, right? 

Come episode 2 and we are whisked back into the present. The main group of characters have all moved on after the events of the flashback in episode 1. Lennon(Allison) is living just as Lennon would be(if you know, you know), Dylan has completely left his old group of friends behind, seemingly not wanting anything to do with the others, Margot is shown to have gotten past dark times, but is ultimately shown to be doing well with the influencer lifestyle, Riley? Well we actually don’t get much from the lovable cynic, but she’s strong willed as ever I suppose. And that leaves us with Johnny, you know our main queer guy of the group? You wanna guess what he’s been up to? Go on, I’ll give you a second.

He got engaged to their school’s gym teacher at just 18! Now I’m not shaming anyone for getting engaged early. If the love is right, the love is right. But come on, really? The one gay guy hooks up with a gym teacher senior year and now they’re engaged? Yikes- but hey, he’s still the same charmster from episode 1, so it’s all good. Great, can’t wait to see where that story line goes! 

Apparently nowhere cause Johnny is killed off the very same episode we learn all of this- Along with his significant other, the gym teacher! 

Now before you jump the gun, I’m not complaining about the kills themselves. After all, I am a horror fan, I love me some beautiful looking murders! James A. Janice would be very proud, I’m sure! 

However, as a gay man, this just didn’t sit right with me. After years and years of our community being the killer or killed in Horror, you really had to go ahead and shaft the two gay guys of the cast? And let me say this now, I wasn’t expecting Johnny to live till the end or anything, I mean he’s a gay guy in a horror show, of course he was going to get killed off. But second episode in?? Come on, do better. It felt like the producer or script writers or whoever said “Hey, we got gay guys, here they are, anyway forget about them, here’s a -sort of- wlm relationship tee hee’. And the wlm ship isn’t bad. I support all my Lesbians out there and their own needs to be seen on the Scream Screen! I’d enjoy them a lot more if the two characters weren’t downright insufferable at times. But hey, it is a Young Adult tv series, so I guess character writing wouldn’t be the greatest...Anyway, so yeah, Johnny, sucks man, but eh what can you do, am I right? Killed off way too soon, but you’re a gay man, so you get the axe...Or in this case, shovel. Sorry...

But Queen, what about Chucky’s gay rep? Well let me just start off with, us gay guys fair a little better over in Hackensack...Sort of. 

You see our (sort of) titular character, Jake Wheeler is apparently gay. A young gay teen to be exact, so you can expect all the cliche tropes a gay teen must face in television or movies. And as Chucky is currently still airing weekly with only 3 episodes in(as of writing this post), I can’t comment much on if Jake Wheeler will actually survive. He’s the main character besides Chucky, so you’d expect him to, right? But we live in an age of TV and Cinema where it is just so, so cool to kill off your main lead, so who knows, we’ll have to wait and see. I personally can’t see Jake being killed off, but with the Horror genre, we love subverting expectations! 

Jake so far has gotten no love in terms of relationships, although he does seem to have a crush on the podcast-detective, Devon Evans, huh, Podcast-Detective? New career for you internet sleuths out there? Heh. But yeah, I see the show ending with these two living happily ever after and gay and alive and gay. Or so I hope. 

But besides Jake Wheeler, his cousin Junior Wheeler also intrigues me. So far it looks to be he’s in a relationship with downright nasty Lexy. I call her nasty because she is literally one of the most annoying bully characters I’ve ever had the displeasure of seeing on my TV screen. But the queer guy in me who loves to read into subtext can’t resist but see Junior as something more than her little lapdog...Possible closet reveal? We’ll have to wait and see as the series continues to pump out episodes, which so far have been free to watch on Youtube, so long as you live in America that is, or I guess if you have access to a VPN 😏 

Do I have any opinion on which TV show you should devote your queer, queer time to? Nah, not really. Watch what you wanna watch. Both shows aren’t perfect, the performances of the actors ain’t perfect and you’ll most likely find something about either show to rant about (just like I did with Johnny). But that’s the Horror genre for ya. Your fav won’t always make it to end. But you sure as hell hope they do!

Hi, I love your opinions about the girls and I have a few doubts. We’re on the same page about them ramping up her career when they’re ready, but I respectfully disagree that no one was relevant for the last year and a half because of COVID. Taylor Swift comes to mind when I think about relevance during the pandemic and we had others for sure. In my opinion they simply didn’t wanted Camila being relevant while lasting this PR and things wouldn’t be different if it weren’t for the virus, because they’d still need her to uplift his image.

My questions are: Aren’t you guys always saying this PR was planned since IKWYDLS era? Also, doesn’t the timeline points to the PR deal being accepted months before Camila being casted for the movie? Going further, if that was the plan (Cinderella doesn’t need a pince narrative) why would they make her the cringe/desperate girlfriend deeply in love and always running for her prince? How will she go from that image to the empowered princess we speculate?

Something it’s not clicking with this narrative. Can you please enlighten me? Thank you! 😘

You took it a bit to literal. Taylor is Taylor. She is a global superstar. She doesn't have to do anything to be relevant. She just is. Taylor, and a lot of artists have released music, but that's it. No one has been able to do anything with that music, including Taylor.

My answers: It was planned since IKWYDLS era. They even said so in their official STORY. They just needed to wait for a time it would be "beneficial" to both parties. We might not think it was beneficial for her, but what we think don't matter. It's what THEY think and want, that matters.

Camila was the one they wanted for the movie, long before we found out about it. It can take months to negotiate the details of the contract, before the public ever hears about it. It's only made public, after the ink is dry.

That being said, no. Technically, the time line indicates that there would be a duet long before we found out about the film. I've always said, I think Camila drug her feet on accepting the contracted PR. In my opinion, it was most likely sometime mid/late May when she agreed to do it. (could've been a bit sooner though)

They didn't make her the "cringe/desperate girlfriend deeply in love and always running for her prince". That's just how certain people are choosing to see it. I see it quite differently. He is the "desperate" one. He is using her family. He is using her houses, that she bought, WITHOUT HIM!!! Everything that's hers, has now become his. Her family is now his family. Her homes are now his homes. How is she actually seen as the desperate one here?

She is only "running" for him, because he's acting like a selfish prick. She's barely 5 foot. He's over 6 feet tall. He has a much longer stride than she does. Any real gentleman would shorten and slow his stride for the woman he supposedly loves. Not him!!! That doesn't make her seem desperate. It makes him seem selfish.

The official story line has made him the "desperate one" by default. Like I said, it's his story. He pined for her, for years. He couldn't admit his feelings, so she moved the fuck on. He couldn't handle seeing her "happy" with someone else. He thought he was so much better for her. He admitted his feelings to her, and pestered the fuck out of her, until she finally "caved". He supposedly got her to leave another man, for him...I ask again, who's the "desperate one" here?!!!

They don't need to change her image. She is already the "empowered princess". He needed her, not the other way around. He needed a Billboard #1, she got it for him. He needed his album sales to go up, she got it for him. He needed a beard, she gave him one. He needed a love story to go with it, his next album, and his documentary, she gave him one. All THEY wanted for her, was a fairy-tale that would lead up to a fairy-tale.

So, in reality, she is the alpha Princess. The problem isn't her image. The problem is how people are seeing this cluster fuck of a circus show. People need to start seeing it for what it is, instead of just blaming her for playing a part in it......That's my opinion anyway!!!

Love them! Fun fact; I watched the scary movie franchise before watching Scream or I know what you did last summer so I COULD NOT take Scream seriously at first. ☠️☠️☠️ Like, try taking Sidney and Billy's heart to heart scene seriously after watching this:

Anna Faris, Regina Hall and the Waynes Brothers made that movie franchise. 3 and 4 were good and I did like the one ur talking about which I think is 2!! but just like Scream, 1 was the best for me.

You really do need to watch IKWYDLS and Scream first bc now I can appreciate that "OH! They named Cindy's friend Buffy bc she was a play on Tatum from Scream but also Sarah's character in IKWYDLS and she also played Buffy on BTVS so THAT'S how they got the name!"

IF C and L really hid their relationship (and sexuality), do you think Tyren, Matmila or this Shitmila would have been born? Because that is one hell of a consequence. I can't believe this sh*t storm now has been planned since 2015. I was a fan of C first(just last year though) then I get to know S because of her. Then I get to watch their duet IKWYDLS, S sucked in that video. C got more closeups. He is just a "pretty" face who can sing. Still, even then most of his songs are the same. Even in the senorita mv, the boy could not really act. If it's true that this narrative was planned since 2015, S owes C a lot. And now breakup rumors are brewing, I think C will be the bad guy yet again. She can lose fans. If his songs are really about her. I just really can't believe her team accepted this freaking PR where she got the short end of the stick. C can stand alone by herself. Heck, she can shine more by herself.

I assume, it wasn't because anyone suspected a relationship at that stage, but because they felt they could market them and sell them the most.

So because of that we don't know if only the two of them were in PRs because they wanted to make them more famous compared to A,N,D, or because the two of them had something to hide. Possibly both.

The fact that they are queer definitely disrupted the management's plans for them, but hey, nothing was lost yet. They changed the strategy, decided to use "camren" for cloud in the fandom, while simultaneously trying to keep them deep in the closet to the gp.

Camila was their 'it' girl. 1) Make her known outside of the group: a solo project. 2) Make people talk about her love live to feel more emotionally connected to her: a project with the potential love interest. This way they obtained a new wave of fans, who don't know she's gay and DON'T WANT HER TO BE. They will fight for her hetero rights. Perfect

Shawn and Camila seemed like a great plan, teenagers, friends to lovers trope, young love, cute old recordings and videos you can refer to later. A romantic, sweetheart kind of story. And they tried it out back in 2015 to see if this could potentially work. And it did. Even I have to admit they kind of had a good chemistry back then. So Shawmila was a masterplan for the following years, and Shawn and Camila were supposed to be the power couple of the decade. The management forgot we don't live in the early 2000s anymore.

But I think Tyren and Mattmila wouldn't necessarily happen if the girls were straight. Tyren was a consequence of Lauren's coming out, to convince people that she's rebellious and that's the only reason she's bi (because for some reason the entertainment industry treats women's bisexuality as a crazy phase AND caters it to men, why are we not surprised). So her being with an older rapper right after was to establish this opinion and this image of her.

Mattmila - Camila needed a beard. This wasn't for her publicity or benefit. She was just single (rather not with a man) for too long at that time, and it started to look suspicious. If she had a real boyfriend at that time, they wouldn't bother.

Music Industry Stunts and why they happen

Stunts are a big part of the music industry, you may not know it, but they are.  The purpose of stunts is to push a certain narrative to the general public. Now this could mean many different things, PR relationship; coverups; or to peak the publics interest. Why? You may ask, why would the artist do this, why wouldn’t they just be truthful? Well, many don’t have a choice, the music industry is a place that I wish no one would have to be in, it is a cruel and awful place to be if you don’t know how to get around it, or if you don’t have the correct connections. In the past (and still now), many big brand music industries, such as Sony Music and Warner Music have controlled artists immensely.

George Michael

As a legend in the music industry, George Michael is a well-known name in the average household. From his time in the hit duo “Wham!”, Michael’s music was distributed through CBS, but in 1987 Sony took over and that’s when things went downhill. Michael reveled in the popularity of his hit album “Faith” in 1987, and so did Sony, because he was earning them money.

But that ended quickly with the news of his next album “Listen Without Prejudice” in 1990, Sony refused to promote the album and appear in the music videos for it. Michael in turn, disputed his contract with Sony, but he could not do close to anything, because Sony possessed the power of approval over everything that he put out. Meaning, George Michael could not release music without it going through the board of Sony, and if he did, he could get sued and fired.

During this whole time, George came clean, saying that the board of Sony, used many different homophobic slurs against him, and wouldn’t let him release any music that seemed to allude to the fact that he was gay.

George Michael brought Sony to court in 1993, claiming that between 1987-1992, he had made worldwide profits of £7.35 million ($9.8 million) compared to Sony making £52.45 million ($70 million). Ultimately, the case lasted till June 1994, and Michael had lost, the judge claiming that it was fair. Michael retaliated saying how Sony is “Professional Slavery”.

Suzanne Kessler, Entertainment attorney at Bone McAllester Norton and former in-house attorney at A&M Records and Universal Music Group stated, “There are two sides to this tale,” she said. “The music business is a relationship business, and he was uneasy with what was happening. A label often wants an artist to continue to trade on their established brand with the public. But after “Faith” Michael was trying for a new direction, to be taken more seriously as an artist instead of just as a pop star sex symbol.”

This brings me to my next point,

 Closeting in the Industry

(Now I could go on for day about closeting in the music industry, but I will only give you the basis and then I will link another post that goes further in depth.)

Closeting is not a rare thing in the music industry, it in fact happens more than you might think. Many different artists have come forward, saying how their management said they should remain closeted to the general public, in order to maintain the brand that has been established. A popular example of this would be Sam Smith, they were offered multiple times by their management to have a beard. More closeting in the industry comes from Colton Haynes, who has been open about how his management closeted him because he “could not be gay and work in the industry”.

 The Types of Stunts and Stunt Songs

“Pap Pics”

Stunts are common, we all should know that. From the amount of staged paparazzi pictures and videos that get posted to twitter on the daily it is not surprising that stunts happen. One of the main reasons stunts happen is for publicity, I can tell you now, living in LA for as long as I did, the paparazzi aren’t at every corner just waiting for a celebrity to walk past. They are called to meet at a place where the celebrity is going to be, in order to get pictures. This call is made by the artists management normally, and many times it is done against the artists will.

“Relation-shit”

These types of stunts are the relationship stunts, normally it is two popular celebrities dating to gain publicity for a movie or song that they are doing. A popular reference to this would be Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato, Joe was approached by a head of Disney, who asked him to date, at the time, co-star Demi Lovato. This stunt was to push the new Disney movie that both were starring in, Camp Rock 2: The Final Jam. Now at the time Demi was unaware that Joe was approached to do this, so when Joe and hid dad approached her about it… wow that must have hurt.

Another example of a relation-shit would be Shawmilla. Now before you attack me for this, let’s look at all the facts. Everything that relationship has done has been staged, let’s look at the timeline.

Shawn just released an album called “Wonder” and guess what we wonder Shawn? Why do you not post any pictures of Camila until you have an album to promote? And now you have a puppy? Pulling an Elounor are we?

Senorita is a total stunt song to “prove” to the public that they are together.

“Style”

Now this type of stunt gets its name from the queen of stunt songs herself, Ms. Taylor Swift. The notorious song Style, supposedly about “Ex” Harry Styles, is probably one of the most stunty stunt songs I have ever heard. Like come on! “James Dean Daydream look in your eyes” if you didn’t know, here is a short recap on the icon himself James Dean.

Taylor has time and time again written amazing songs, I would be lying if I did not call her one of the greatest lyricists on the 21st century, the woman can write extremely well. So why would she put a nod to James Dean, a famous actor, who was a closeted, RAGING bisexual in a song so clearly about Harry Styles? She knows what she is doing.

Talking more about the “Haylor” stunt, can we please end that? It was a 3-month PR stunt that happened 5 years ago, please just get over it, they never really dated. And to the hardcore Haylor fans, there is no chemistry between them.

Now I do not go into this one much, but basically it is when you see two artists publicly fighting and releasing diss tracks. A popular example of this would be, Machine Gun Kelley and Eminem, with their songs called “Rap Devil” and “Killshot”. Their “beef” was totally staged to boost views on both sides, its even more prominent because they have the same record label, INTERSCOPE.
