cw: incoherent rambling, im still going through it™, unbeta'd++all mistakes are mine
grim being a selfish brat is the point of his character arc. when you're told to claw for your survival in a prestigious yet hostile magical academy, when you're told that the weak must obey the strong, of course you're going to make use of what little advantages are given to you. that means demanding your henchman to do your every bidding and taking any opportunity to prove your strength.
kindness, consideration, compassion, empathy - they don't have a place in NRC. or so it seems.
the great thing about him starting the story with an obnoxious and abrasive personality is in how he awkwardly navigates his first ever friendships. in the sweetness of the rare scene where kinship just clicks for him, where his boasts and complaints become banter, where he feels like he gets to belong, to have a home.
and there's something deeply tragic about grim too, the fact that he's going to be left alone when yuu returns to their original world. what will happen to his student status? will he have to move out of the ramshackle dormitory? can he make it through his studies without you at his side?
when the first person who gave you kindness leaves, what are you supposed to do? will you say goodbye or will you fight to keep them?

*✧・゚: *✧・゚ "in the dead of night"・゚✧*: ・゚✧*
pairing: Jacaerys Velaryon x fem!Reader
words: 7000
summary: when Jace is attending a late council meeting, two hired assassins take their chance to sneak into your chambers and hold you captive. Taken to the dragon caves below and meant to be slain by your own betrothed’s dragon, you have to trust the bond between Vermax and you is strong enough to escape your captor’s murderous plans.
warnings: soft!reader, fluffy start but HEAVY angst (reader being held captive by two assassins similar to Blood and Cheese), physical violence (slapping, hair pulling), verbal abuse, threats of rape and violence, Vermax being Vermax and also protective of reader, hurt/comfort, shock and crying, Jacaerys being a caring betrothed, Rhaenyra being the best mother in law, aftermath of trauma, healing, hopeful ending
a/n: please mind the warnings for this story, it’s my angstiest so far! Big thanks to @princessvelaryon and @princesschimchim1325 for being awesome and inspiring me to write this!

You smiled to yourself as you held two small wooden figures in your hands, a princess and a prince, their hands linked together and small attires made of cotton and wool. When you were younger, you remembered playing with them for hours, creating little scenarios of the prince who might sweep you off your feet someday.
Now, many years later, you had found the love of your life in Prince Jacaerys.
Ever since your own parents had died too young, Jace’s family had welcomed you as if you were one of them by blood, making you a home at Dragonstone and accepting you with open arms as theirs. Perhaps, a huge part of it was because Rhaenyra’s oldest son had been in love with you ever since he had first laid eyes on you, but there was more to it. His mother adored you and you got alone with his siblings and cousins and brought a joy into their house that was much needed in those dark times of war.
This afternoon, you were sitting on the soft fur carpet in one of the big living rooms of the castle, Rhaenyra’s twins peacefully playing with their wooden toys all around you. Earlier, Baela and Rhaena had joined you for a chat and the newest gossip, but you didn’t mind being alone with the kids as well, your own inner child always coming down around their soft souls.
You let out a playful gasp as little Viserys assembled a row of knights on their horses along the imaginary street you had built together. “Are your noble knights going to a tournament, Vis?”
The boy nodded timidly at you, letting one of the horses gallop forward and making you laugh.
Your betrothed Jacaerys leaned against the doorframe and smiled softly as he watched you. Little Aegon had snuggled close to you and you helped Viserys move the toy carriage around the carpet.
You looked up as he pushed himself off the frame, walking towards you with pure adoration in his eyes. “Oh hello. I didn’t hear you enter.” You said, letting your hand be lifted by him so he could press a soft kiss against your knuckles.
Moving to stand and placing Aegon on the ground, he laid a hand on your shoulder, shaking his head. “I didn’t want to interrupt your play. What adventures is my princess going on today? Have my brothers been behaving?”
“They are the sweetest.” You told him in all honesty, your heart melting at the two little blond boys in front of you. Whenever you spent time with Jace’s smaller siblings, you could not help but notice how your heart expanded and spoke to a deep part in you that wished for children of your own someday. “We were playing a carriage ride to a tournament, I believe, but then a dragon escaped and now we have to look for him.”
Jace squatted down for a moment and handed Aegon a rattle shaped like the bell of a sept, which he immediately took with a toothless grin and tried out. You watched your betrothed with a soft heart and thought what a wonderful father he’d make…
“I dream of the day this will be our life someday.” He confessed to you, the corner of his plump lips lifting sadly. “When there is peace in the realm and we have time to take care of our future children together.”
“I wish for nothing else.” You replied softly, your heart blooming with love for him.
For a moment, Jacaerys looked as if he wanted to sit down and join you and his little brothers, but as you knew your hard-working betrothed all too well, he sighed and stood up again, careful not to step on the big skirts draped around you like a blooming flower.
“There will be a late council meeting this evening.” Jacaerys announced to you, his displeased expression betraying him. “Everyone of the council and the dragon keepers will sit together to discuss. I wouldn’t ask you to join us, it will be very boring and entirely unnecessary.”
You chuckled, knowing all too well how different Jace would do many things if his say in the matters of his mother would be of more weight. But at the same time, you were glad, Rhaenyra kept him sheltered and protected with you for now, at Dragonstone where it was the safest place for the future king and his queen.
“Will you come to bed later?” You asked shyly, although it was not uncommon for the prince and you to share a bed before your marriage had even been consummated.
A small and narrow passage connected your room to Jacaerys’ and you had often made use of it, whether you wanted someone to talk to before heading to bed or were in need of his warm embrace before you eventually drifted off into an innocent sleep together. When he was gone or bound to duties, you usually made yourself comfortable in his bed, but perhaps you’d return to your own tonight if the meeting was going to take a while before he’d be released.
Jacaerys smiled softly at you and nodded before he raised your hand towards his lips. “I will. Don’t stay up too late, I’ll be with you as soon as I can, I promise.”
You hummed pleased and let him kiss your knuckles. “I hope it won’t be too long. And don’t take their words to heart too much, Jace. You’re the prince and they’re lucky to have you.”
“It is me who is lucky to have you, my beloved.” He said and watched in delight as you blushed at his appreciation. “My safe haven, my light.”
Jacaerys leaned down, softly cupping your cheek before he gently kissed your lips, your back arching a little to reach him better. Your lips brushed tenderly against one another and you sighed in bliss at his open affections for you.
You smiled at him when you separated, squeezing his hand in yours. “I love you. I’ll see you later.”
“I love you.I’ll do my best to hurry.” He promised, hugging his little toddler brothers as well and softly stroking their hair before he departed. You sighed to yourself, eager to have the hours pass and let the two of you be reunited again as little Aegon presented you a wood dragon, silently asking you to rejoin their play..
“Alright, where were we, my princes?”
˚ ༘ ೀ⋆。˚
Being alone in your private chambers had become a rarity since you had been promised to Jacaerys.
You listened to the quietness of the room, the fire cackling in the pit as you sat on your bed and combed out your hair. You had taken a bath after bringing the princes to their nurseries and changed into something comfortable for the night.
The small evidence of Jace’s frequent visits to your room were visible all over the place. A cloak of his was thrown over one of your chairs by the fire and one of his books laid open by your desk. Even his smell still faintly clung to your pillows, a little gift from the last time he had fallen asleep here, not bothering to retreat back to his own chamber under your soft and lingering touches to his hair.
You could not even remember the last time the connecting door between your rooms had been closed.
You let out a small sigh as you sunk into bed, watching the dark outside of your window for a while. The council meeting must’ve been going on for a while now and you tried to read a few pages to keep you awake, not wanting to miss the moment Jace would come to you.
The time went by and your eyelids kept dropping.
But after a while, the door to your chamber opened and a wide smile split your face as you sat up in your bed, ready to welcome Jace back. Your hair fell over your shoulders, the blanket slipping down your body a little, but just a second later, everything in you froze to a stop.
Two men entered your room, their clothes dirty and faces dark as they took you in. These weren’t your guards and as one of them unsheathed a blade from his belt, you opened your mouth to scream.
They were on you in a heartbeat.
One of them drew the blankets off the bed while the other grabbed your hair, dragging you from the mattress and onto the floor, every sound in your throat seizing up and choked off by their sudden display of violence.
You were not a fighter, never had been. You stood no chance as they manhandled you in their middle, the taller one quickly looking over his shoulder as you struggled to no use against their tight grip.
“Look at that.” You heard close to your ear, the deep raspy voice sending shivers down your spine. “The bastard prince’s little bird, right between us. What would your man say now if he could see you like this, huh?”
You whimpered when your head was tugged back, the other gripping your wrists and making quick work of a tight rope around them, scratching over your soft skin and successfully binding you.
“Who are you?” You demanded to know, your voice barely louder than a whisper. You were shaking from head to toe, your body and mind gone into overdrive when they had first laid hands on you.
They shared a grin with each other. “Does it matter? All you have to know is we’re not your fucking maids. And that you will die tonight, princess. Now be a good girl and shut the fuck up.”
You tried to press your heels into the floor, to keep them from stirring you towards the door, but after a moment the tall one simply picked you up and carried you towards the door. Your nails scratched over the man’s back, but it was like he didn’t even feel it, his grip around your legs too tight for you to struggle and free yourself.
“Behave.”
You were set on your feet again, crowded by them against the door. You swallowed hard against the lump in your throat, your eyes flickering between the two of them. “Whoever paid you, their reward is not nearly enough for the misery my family will bring down on you when they find you. I am a princess of Dragonstone and you have no right to-“
They pushed you out of the door, not bothering to listen.
A horrified gasp escaped your lips as you stepped outside your chamber and nearly stumbled over the dead bodies of your two guards, bleeding out and cold on the floor. The sound echoed through the hall and before you knew what was happening, your head was pulled back by your hair and a hard hand slapped you across the face.
Pain exploded in your mind, blinding you for a moment before the sting ebbed away and was replaced with a dull throb in your cheek.
You held the palm of your trembling hand to your throbbing cheek, breathing hard as you recovered from the blow. “You will die for this.” You said oddly calm and collected. It had to be the shock, you could not think clearly, but you knew one thing for sure: “The prince will cut your hands off for laying hand on me.”
The tall one grinned as if it was an empty threat. “We will be long gone once your prince finds you, stupid cunt. And in what state that will be, I still have to decide.” His disgusting hungry gaze crept over your body, barely hidden underneath your thin sleeping gown. You wanted to throw up.
“You will lead us to the place where the dragons are.” The shorter one said. “We know the keepers are all at the meeting and you know ways where no guards keep patrol. And if you dare to scream or run to wake anyone, I’ll cut out your tongue and heart and throw it in front of the bastard prince’s feet.”
You swallowed down bitter tears, your head screaming at you to do something, anything. But your hands were painfully tied and you did not find your voice as you slowly began to walk with them through the castle.
In the past, you have had nightmares like this, terrible visions of you being powerless as hands held you down in the dark, doing horrible things to you. You sometimes had woken up screaming, but Jacaerys had been there for you every time, holding you until the worst of it was over and you slowly were able to calm down in his safe and warm embrace. Now, there was no one, all people living and working at Dragonstone either asleep or summoned by Rhaenyra and Jacaerys for the council meeting. By the time someone had discovered the corpses of your guards in front of your chambers, you’d likely be dead or taken to who knew where.
You walked through your home, shivering against the cool air with only the thin nightdress you wore on you, the dangerous presence of your captors behind your back. You knew Jacaerys would blame himself for leaving you alone and suddenly, a sorrow so consuming filled your chest, you choked on a quiet whimper. You had not even said goodbye…
“Shut the fuck up.” They hissed at you and one of them slung his arm around your waist, your fingers digging into his flesh in protest as cool metal suddenly rested against your ribcage. A dagger. “Be fucking quiet and keep walking.”
Soon, the air began to smell of salt and sea and you heard the distant crashing of the waves against the island. The entrance to the dragon caves came into sight and you turned around to face them.
“Now tell us, girl, where is your precious dragon?”
Your heart sank into the pit of your stomach, but before you could open your mouth for a reply, the other one of them shook his head. “No. Don’t be stupid. The beast will kill us right away if it sees their rider in our clutches. But…the bastard’s dragon. It’s a foul ill-tempered beast, isn’t it? Where is it?”
Vermax.
A protective wave washed through you and for a moment, you regained the little confidence you had before the man had laid his hand on you. “What do you want with the dragon? You are in no state to have a chance at killing him.”
They shared a look, both grinning viciously. One of them stepped up to you and touched your chin with his dirty hand, right where a fresh bruise from his violence bloomed. You tried to flinch away, but he held you close.
“We don’t mean to kill it, flower.” He told you, bloodthirst flickering over his features and making you sick. His knuckles brushed over the cut on your lip and you wanted to gag from disgust. “We’re going to watch as it kills you.”
Your mind was swimming as you led them through the darkness, watching their big shadows looming over your small own. The taller one still held his dagger against your waist and you knew he’d make use of it if he noticed you playing any games. There were wild beasts slumbering in the depths of these caves, but would they be faster at attacking your captors than the knife against your skin?
The hope in your chest thinned the further away you walked with them from where you knew your own dragon slept, but one last shimmer of it remained in you. You knew Vermax and he knew you just as Jacaerys did. You had to hold on to that.
“It’s here.” You announced quietly, your whisper echoing across the cave near the ocean. It was quiet here and you had to squint your eyes to make out the big nest at the end of the cave where a green-scaled dragon slept fitfully.
“Call it.” The smaller one muttered, his eyes fixed on the beast. You winced as the tip of the dagger pressed into your skin, a warning. “We will stand behind you and when it has come out, you will command it to kill you, you hear me? No tricks or I’ll gladly be the one to end your suffering, right after my friend here has had his fun with you, princess.”
You took a deep breath as they retreated into a safe distance.
„Naejot Māzīs, Vermax.“ You commanded shakingly and the sound of your familiar voice, the big pile of green and red in the corner of the cage moved, uncurling himself from his light slumber.
Jacaerys’ dragon blinked at you sleepily, a shudder going through his beautiful scales as he tilted his head to the side questioningly. When he spotted the two men in your company, he tensed, stepping forward and showing himself in his full height.
“Lykirī…“ You lifted your hands, trying to catch Vermax’ eyes again so he’d look at you instead of them.
With a low growl in his throat, he settled, stepping closer to you until his snout almost touched your outstretched hand.
“Say it, girl!” You heard the commanding voice behind you, in a safe distance of the beast that slowly blinked at you, considering. “We’re not going to wait much longer!”
You took a deep breath and looked Vermax in the snake-like eyes.
He met you with a calm stare, tilting his head to the side again, a deep rumble in his chest.
You had to trust in him now. You had to trust in the love Jacaerys and you were sharing and the bond between you and the dragons.
Out of the sudden, a heavy thrown stone hit you in the back and you gasped in pain, stumbling forward and almost slipping in a dirty puddle.
“DO IT!”
Trust in Vermax, just as you trust in your Jace.
“Dracarys.” You whispered finally and closed your eyes.
Vermax surged forward with a furious roar, one sharp claw in the ground, his wing shielding you from the scenery. Nearly pushing you out of the way, he advanced on the men who had threatened you with a snarl and warmth filled the large cave, fire burning low in his green-scaled stomach.
A horrible realization flickered over their faces as the green beast drew closer, their backs hitting the wall behind them as they looked at you one last time. “You fucking cunt-“
Vermax wiped out their miserable existence with one single breath of fire. Heat tore through the cave and you stumbled backwards as the dragon fire burned them and the scent of roasted human flesh reached your nose.
You squeezed your eyes shut and buried your face in your hands as you listened to their screams. Their agony bounced off the stone walls and heat crept down your spine, but Vermax kept you close, the leathery feel of his wing a small comfort against your skin.
Suddenly, silence rang in your ears.
You dared to peek up over the protective curl of Vermax’ wings.
Where your captors had stood, only ashes and bones remained.
Vermax let out a self-satisfied growl, clearly pleased with what he had unleashed on the terrors. He bent down, blinking at you with his sharp eyes as if to make sure you were alright. Tears, both from the shock and gratitude, filled your eyes and you leaned your forehead against his snout, trying to take deep breaths to steady yourself.
You shrunk back as you heard footsteps in the caves, hurried steps running over gravel and through the water puddles, a flame throwing a long shadow over the walls. You felt Vermax tense, his wing drawing itself tighter around you. Any other threat advancing, he’d burn to the ground.
In the next moment, Jacaerys stormed into the chamber, his sword drawn as his other hand held a lit torch. His chest was heaving, sweat gathering at his hairline as he quickly took in the state of the room. He looked like he had run the length of the castle and you knew it likely had been the case.
Vermax snarled without threat, greeting his rider and lifting his wing to present you to your love.
Your eyes met and you let out a shuddering breath.
The sight of you was a thousand daggers to his heart.
Your face was smeared with soot and the blood from your split lip coated your chin, your hair unruly and disheveled from the way they had grabbed and dragged you along. Your silk dress was dirty and you shivered against the cold of the cave as you slung your bruised arms around yourself.
Behind you, Vermax hovered like a protective shadow and waited, willing to serve with Jacaerys now here with you.
As he took a step towards you, his boot made contact with the skulls of the assassins. Two of them, he realized and the rage surging through his veins was all-consuming. He looked down at their bones and wished to go back in time to kill them himself, over and over again until not even these mortal remains stayed behind.
But his own bloodlust vanished as he raced towards you, your own legs unsteady and finally giving out under you just as he reached you.
He fell to the ground with you in his arms, holding you tightly as you clawed your hand in his clothes, his heart breaking for you right underneath your tight grip. It was like any last strength in you had left, leaving you a broken and sobbing mess in his embrace.
“You’re safe, you’re safe…” Jace murmured into your ear, softly swaying you back and forth as you wept, the adrenaline and shock from the situation finally crashing down on you with full force. “Nothing is going to happen to you, I’m here…”
The Queen and the dragon keepers found the prince and his princess just like this.
Jacaerys was kneeling on the ground, the princess dissolved in tears in his arms and the ill-tempered beast that had saved his love curled around them, chortling comfortingly as the prince stroked her hair and whispered sweet nothings in her ear.
˚ ༘ ೀ⋆。˚
You had been escorted back to the castle, but you couldn’t say you remembered much from the journey. Your mind had gone into an odd state of survival, the girl from before the attack having retreated into a far corner of your mind.
The guards, now dead because of you, had been carried away in front of your door and you had stopped in the middle of the hallway, not able to go another step as you stared at the spot where maids were now scrubbing the blood from the floor.
“Come on, my dear.” Rhaenyra had gently told you and you tore your eyes away from the scene as your Queen and Jacaerys led you into his chambers instead. The warmth and unique scent of Jace’s quarters – the smell of old parchment and books, mingled with the wax of the candles and the smell of his sheets – enveloped you and you drew the cloak Jace had draped over your shivering form tightly around you.
Now, a little later, you were seated at Jace’s work table and blankly stared at your scraped hands in your lap.
Jacaerys had instantly expressed his dislike for an interrogation at this hour of the night, but you had shaken your head, willing to recount the situation to Rhaenyra as if words could wash away the poison they had brought onto you. Your skin felt coated with it and you feared the stain might never go away again.
Yet, you had told her and Jace what happened, slowly and quietly, and when you were done, Rhaenyra was holding your hand and Jacaerys looked as if he wanted to break something.
“My brave girl.” Rhaenyra murmured and softly cupped your cheek as she looked at the bruises on your face and neck. “You’ve fought enough for tonight, darling. I’ll call the maids and healers and-“
“No.” You cut her off, shivering at the prospect of unfamiliar hands on you, seeing the evidence of what had happened on your naked skin. You swallowed hard, your eyes filling with unshed tears again. “No one else. It’s- it’s alright, I can do it myself, I really can-“
Rhaenyra smiled sadly at you. “You are hurt, my dear.”
“I’m not broken.” You insisted, although you felt like it. You were shattered pieces on the ground.
“And no one says so, dear.”
Jacaerys, sensing you were on the verge of breaking down, knelt down next to your chair and caught your gaze with his. “I can help, if you want.” He offered quietly.
You looked back at him, conflicted. If Jace stayed, there’d come the point where he’d see the damage you had taken and you did not know what troubled you more; him seeing you like this or seeing him as his heart shattered for you.
“Jace.” Rhaenyra looked at him. “Perhaps a woman’s presence at this time is better suited for her. I’ll fetch you later, I promise, but she needs a moment for herself now, alright?”
He was tense, your beloved prince, but after a moment he nodded with a set jaw before he stood and looked at you one more time. “I’ll wait outside.”
You didn’t want to meet his sad expression, so you kept your gaze down as mother and son went to the door, talking in quick and hushed voices before Jace stepped outside and Rhaenyra returned to you.
She leaned down and brushed a little bit of soot from your cheeks, careful not to touch your split lip. “Vermax surely knows how to rain down fire on our enemies, hm?”
A weak smile tugged at the corner of your lips. “He saved me. He knew exactly what was going on the moment I entered and he was intelligent enough to play along until the right moment had come.”
Rhaenyra hummed, offering you a hand to stand up. “And still, they only call my son’s dragon ill-tempered. How does a bath sound? I’m sure you’d like to step into more comfortable clothes, wouldn’t you?”
You nodded, longing for a simple cotton shirt, preferably one of Jace’s that smelled like home and warmth and safety.
Your future mother-in-law went to the big bath next to Jace’s bedroom with you, a steaming bath already having been drawn for you.
When you saw her drawing a stool close to the tub, your eyes widened and you were quick to interject: “I-I can do it myself, Your Grace, there is no need for you to-“
“Please let me help you just as I would help any other child of mine.” She interrupted you kindly and soon after, you gratefully sunk into the bath, your sore muscles relaxing in its warmth.
Rhaenyra helped you tilt your head back and you closed your eyes as warm water flowed over your hair and down your neck, tears of your own silently running down your damp cheeks. Your throat bobbed painfully as you let her work, the Queen’s gentle hands a mother’s comfort as they helped to get rid of the dirt from the caves and a root clinging to your skin.
“I have sent Jace to fetch an ointment for your bruises and cuts.” She told you quietly and you nodded silently, cupping some of your water to rinse off your face, careful not to touch your throbbing lip. “I want you to tell me if I should send him away for the night. You can be honest with me, dear.”
You sniffled, gladly accepting the towel she lent you after helping you out of the bathtub. After a moment, you rasped: “It is not him I am scared of. It’s just…I know it pains him to see me hurt.”
“He hurts because he hasn’t been there for you, my dear.” Rhaenyra explained softly and you sighed to yourself as you slipped into a silken robe, the fabric easy on the big bruise on your back and arms. Underneath, you already wore one of Jace’s long shirts, the fabric more of a dress on you. “If it is one thing I have learned, as someone who loves and is lucky enough to be loved, it’s that healing means accepting the help of others. No one will fault you if you want to be for yourself tonight, but I know Jace will do anything he can to help you recover from this, no matter what that might look like.”
You did not want to be alone.
You feared it, laying down in bed once again when the door could open at any moment and reveal the terrors, although Jacaerys had doubled the amount of guards outside his door, simply so you’d feel safe.
You wanted to feel sheltered and able to move past this with the one you loved more than anything else, the one who had first thought about when your life had been in grave danger.
You needed Jacaerys.
“Jace may come in again.” You said quietly, suppressing the urge to groan with every step. You had not seen it yet, but the pain the stone thrown to your back caused felt like a flare and you were sure the spot was already turning a deep shade of purple.
Rhaenyra led you towards Jace’s bed, seemingly pleased with your decision. “I’ll make my leave then. Sleep in tomorrow, the both of you. You need all the rest you can get.”
“Thank you, Your Grace.” You squeezed her hand in yours, bowing your head in gratitude. “And thank you for helping me.”
She smiled at you one last time, although there was a strain to it, her worry over a sneak attack like this consuming her mind. Tomorrow they’d speak about this in council, but tonight she’d let her son do the rest, his wide eyes meeting hers when she opened the door and let him in.
You turned around to look at him, your damp hair falling over your shoulder and his clothes, a princess despite the cuts and bruises on your skin. Jacaerys slowly walked to you and your heart stung when you noticed his blood-shot eyes and how pale he still was. He was tense all over, yet he softened as he came to a stop in front of you.
“Where does it hurt?” He asked quietly, looking for your honesty and not a false promise towards him.
You let out a shaky breath and leaned into him.
For a moment, you simply stood in front of each other, forehead against forehead and breathing each other in. Hot tears welled up in your shut eyes, his closeness rescuing and suffocating you at once. Jace’s nose touched yours and his soft curls tickled your cheeks and for a second, you thought that everything might be alright again when the morning came.
“My back. My cheek and wrists…” You whispered, your breath tickling his lips. “I know I’ve bathed and changed and I’m safe in your rooms, but…it feels like they’ve put me apart and I’ve been assembled back together wrongly.”
He shook his head, swallowing against his own lump in his throat. “You could never be wrong, my love.”
Your bottom lip wobbled dangerously, only doubling the pain in the cut grazing it. “I’ve been so scared, Jace. When they entered my room- Anything could’ve happened, they could’ve done anything to me-“
You gasped both in relief and sorrow as his arms pulled you against him, the hug both grounding and warm, something you thought you’d lost forever mere hours ago. You were too exhausted to cry once more, but the horror over what else could’ve been done to you shook you to your very core.
“I’m never going to let something like this happen again.” Jace promised you darkly as he tightened his arms around you, soothingly brushing his hand through your hair as you rested the unwounded side of your face against his heart. “You will never have to be afraid again, I promise. I should’ve been there, I should’ve stopped them-“
“You didn’t know they were here.” You reminded him, but you could feel the fury radiating off his body, an all-consuming rage deeply rooted in him. “No one did. No one is to blame except for the ones who sent them, Jace.”
“And they will pay.” You could practically feel the daggers he was glaring at the wall behind you. But just after a moment, you felt his anger deflate as he softly kissed the top of your head and gently lifted your chin so he could look at you. “You’ve been fighting all alone tonight, but I am here now and I want to be of use, beloved. Will you let me help?”
“I don’t want to upset you.” You almost bit your lip before you remembered the pain.
His gaze softened endlessly and he tucked a damp strand of your hair behind your ear. There were lots of tangled emotions inside of him still, but he saw you, this sweet delicate girl he had fallen for ever since the beginning and knew he had to take care of you now. “You could never upset me, my beautiful strong princess.”
The words were mending on your shaken soul and you closed your eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath before you let him to his work.
“The maester said the salve might be a little cool on the skin.” Jace murmured and you nodded in understanding. “And he gave me ice, scratched from the old side of the island’s cliffs, for your cheek.”
You took the dripping bundle from his hand, sighing as the cold cloth touched your cheek, the swelling subtle so far yet inevitable to strengthen throughout the night. But every bruise and cut on your body was better than not living to see the sun rise in the morning. “I could apply the salve on my own?”
Jace shook his head. “Let me do this for you.”
He walked with you to his bed, helping you sit down as he knelt before you, devotion shimmering in his eyes. You realized that he needed this just as much as you did, to prove himself he was able to take care of you now, even if he had not been there for you then.
He cupped your healthy cheek as you covered the other one with your ice. “Should we start with your back?”
Jace helped you lift the fabric, only so much so he could see where the stone had struck you, a dull bruise blossoming right next to your spine. It was nothing he had not yet seen so far, still you felt self-conscious under his attentive eyes.
You held very still as Jacaerys began to carefully apply the ointment to the bruise, his finger drawing soft and soothing circles over the blue spot. His other hand touched your waist, just barely underneath the fabric of his shirt on you and you closed your eyes as the cooling sensation drew a little pain from you and let it vanish.
“Good?”
“Feels good…” You murmured and tried to crawl into the feeling, the tiny relief washing away a little of the darkness from before. With a small kiss to your nape, he let the shirt fall and cover you again.
Next came your sore wrists. He lifted both of them, seeing the red marks where the tight rope had cut into your skin and swallowing hard. He wanted to unleash Vermax on the dusty bones of your captors again until their remains were annihilated from this earth. Jace softly kissed both of them before he dipped his fingers into the small jar again and repeated his careful motions.
You made a small sound in your throat and he stopped instantly.
“Too hard?”
You shook your head. “My lip…”
He sat down beside you, the mattress dipping underneath his weight and bringing you closer to him. The cut wasn’t pretty, but no cut was and you did not shy away from him as he took in the damage, one of his hands still rubbing circles into your wrist.
You held your breath as his coated thumb touched your bottom lip, his touch light as a feather as the cooling salve instantly mended the throbbing. Your hand reached up to hold his wrist, not ready yet to let him go when his touch felt infinitely good for your aching body. There was nothing sexual about the way you breathed against the pad of his thumb, relishing his care and simply letting it wash over you, and for a while you were simply content like this, Jacaerys remaining close to you as you breathed through the slowly ebbing pain.
“Do you want me to braid your hair for the night?” He asked quietly like he had so many times before.
Your wonderful beloved Jace. You nodded gratefully as he shuffled once more on the bed and sat behind you. Kissing the back of your head and brushing your hair over your shoulders for you, he got to work.
Your body was lulled into relaxation as his fingers combed through your hair, loosely braiding it so you wouldn’t have to wake up with tangles and knots in the morning. His warmth was a comfort against your back and if the vicious bruise hadn’t been there, you would’ve leaned back against him, ready to melt into his tenderness.
“Vermax saw right through them.” You spoke up after a while, your eyelids drooping from time to time from exhaustion as Jace finished up his braid for you. “He didn’t let them see at first, but there was a moment where I knew he was going to protect me, that he knew what was happening.”
“He loves you as if you were his own rider.” Jace mumbled, affection for you and his dragon in his voice. “I am glad he had been there for you when I wasn’t.”
“I want the finest sheep the shepherds can organize for tomorrow.” You looked over your shoulder with determination and Jacaerys frowned at you, a question in his eyes. You welcomed the small sting your lip caused you when its corner lifted up into a weak smile: “I want Vermax to be rewarded for defending his rider’s princess so honorably.”
“And I’d be honored to be the one to select it for you, my princess.” Jace’s face darkened, fury swirling in his brown orbs. “I still wish they would’ve suffered more. They deserved much more than a quick death of fire.”
His revengeful words were nothing against the soft touch with which he doted on you and when he was done and brushed his fingers once more over your hair, your body wanted to sink into his pillows and melt into them.
Jace laid down with you, carefully adjusting his position beside you so he wouldn’t accidently bump into your sore body. You exhaled deeply when your head touched his pillow, smelling so comfortingly of him. You could not bear to lie on your back, so you snuggled into Jace’s bed on your stomach, hugging his pillow and turning your head so you could look at your love.
He was resting on his side, his brown eyes searching for any discomfort you might have. Your eyes flickered over his shoulder, towards the door of his chambers.
“You are safe now, I promise.” Jace whispered and leaned forward, pressing a small kiss to your nose. “There are five guards outside and my sword leans against the bed. I’m here. Nothing bad will ever befall you again, my love, I swear it with my life.”
You gave him a tiny nod and tried to relax, although it was hard to keep the shadows lingering in the corners of the room at bay. You wiggled one of your hands out from under the pillow and found his, tugging him closer until his lean body warmed your side, one of his hands resting securely on your lower back.
“Tomorrow, I want to take a walk to the cliffs.” You whispered, longing for the fresh air and its cleansing effect.
Jacaerys smiled. “Then it will be arranged. Does my princess wish for any company?”
You nodded timidly, his playful undertone distracting you from the dull throb underneath the ointments. “And I want to have a picnic if the sun is out, with all my favorite things.”
“I’ll tell the kitchens then, first thing in the morning. They’ll be happy to please their future queen.”
“And when I’m healed, I want you to kiss me…” Your eyes drooped, the exhaustion from the night overpowering the little anxiety that remained in you.
“Your wish is my command...” Jacaerys mumbled back, his eyes on you as you slowly drifted off into a well-deserved sleep. He had not been entirely honest with you, there were many things he wanted to do.
He watched you sleep beside him, the most innocent sweet being he knew, covered with his warm clothes and bruises on your skin. Jace still held your hand and was not willing to let it go for the rest of the night.
At the soonest time, he’d convene a council meeting and strengthen the security around Dragonstone. He already had caught word of Daemon wreaking havoc on the guard unions patrolling around the castle for not being more attentive, for the princess was one of his favorite people in this family and Jace knew he’d have an ally for his cause.
He’d take his revenge for you.
But for now, he knew you needed him more than ever, and tomorrow he’d do his best to make you happy again.
He could almost see it in the dark of the room, your eyes closed blissfully against the sunbeams, your hair dancing with the wind as you walked hand in hand as you had done so many times as children. You’d eat ripe peaches and cake and slowly, this incident would move past you until it was only what it was; a shadow in the corner, in the dead of night…

Man your work is great :D could you do Astrid hiccup tuffnut ruffnut and snotlout with a small jolly reader(4 feet tall) that riders screaming death or a titan wing catastrophic quaken.(I just like the this short joyful person next a GIANT creature that looks like it squash you like a bug it's just a bit funny to me XD)
Astrid, hiccup, the twins(separately) and snotlout x reader who’s a short ball of joy and rides a screaming death
Decided to do screaming death cus I love them
<<WARNINGS:abit of angst,snotlout not likeing spitelout,mentions of injuries(dragons mainly),snotlout needs a hug,spelling errors probally>>can you tell I don’t know how to do warnings?
HAS BEEN PROOF-READ
Astrid
She is absolutely stunned
Your so tiny.and yet you managed to tame the screaming death
She nearly had a heart attack the first time stormfly and the screaming death play fought, she still nearly dose after she gets used to them
She knows your screaming death won’t hurt stormfly, but as the good dragon rider she is she gets worried for her dragon
She may not admit it but she’s extremely cocky over the fact that one of the dragon riders on their side managed to tame the screaming death, with is defiantly no easy feat 💀
She genuinely questions you on how on earth you managed to tame the screaming death
She’s amused by the size difference between you and your dragon
Little ball of joy and a island destroying demon/pos
Due to your small size she can easily pick you up
She picks you up under your arms and you can only dangle there
You’ll just have to hope your screaming death is feeling nice and might scare Astrid to put you down
Don’t think you being small is all fun though.
Is stormfly is particularly pissed off by the screaming death she will pick you up by the scruff of the neck and run/fly off with you
A chase will ensue, that may or may not have to end up with hiccup and/or having to sort it out
She admires how you can stay so sweet and joyful
She may or may not admit it but she adores your personality,in hard times you can seem like a bright light in a endlessly dark hallway, and she couldn’t be more grateful
Hiccup
Also nearly has a heart attack
The screaming death defiantly had some bad blood with him and toothless
But with you,it’s like a big cat/dog and almost completely docile
How?
Ok well maybe the fact that he made the screaming death plummet face first into a rock wouldn’t help
Your tinny compared to hiccup and even tinier compared to the screaming death
He worries that you may become a large target for dragon hunters
Toothless and the screaming death, don’t exactly get along
I mean years of hatred and bad blood isn’t going to fix easily…
But the you and hiccup will find them curled up together
You don’t understand them but that’s ok
He asks if he can examine the screaming death,or maybe ride it.riding is a less likely option though 💀
He will wince or cringe if he sees any scars or damage he may have caused
He can relate to you being positive and joyful alot
But can also be abit jealous, how can you stay so joyful even in some of the most stressfull situations
He’s so unimaginabley grateful that your there for him during the entire time
You decrease his stress tones
It also feels like a weight off of his shoulders with the burden of having such a great relationship with a endangered and powerful dragon, you’ll stick together and get through it though
He also picks you up,and makes fun of your height.
Ruffnut
Probally one of the only ones who dosnt almost have a heart attack
If anything she’s jealous that you managed to tame such a cool and destructive dragon
Begs asks if she can have a ride just one please?
Will try everything and anything with the screaming death
You will need to supervise 24/7 sorry not sorry
She brags about you all the time
She loves your short size and will toss you over her shoulder/hold you like a log
She’s teases you about your size WAY to much, please tell her to put a sock in it T.T
Barf, belch and the screaming death become the faces of Loki day
Barf and belches personality might have slightly affected your dragon but oh well
Loves to cause distruction with you
If you don’t go on a mission she’s not going either, even if tuffnut begs.
She enjoys your joyful personality and loves that there’s someone that slightly carefree
She also feels like she can be more reckless now that there’s a island destroying dragon on the riders team
You will have to keep an eye on her,or lecture her.either works
Will Loki you hard, unless the screaming death is around.she dosnt want to become 🧀 today thanks
Tuffnut
Also dosnt get a heart attack
Instead he gets destructive zoomies
He begs you, like hands and knees and everything
For one chance to either ride or cause destruction with the screaming death
Jokes on you though if you say yes to either, the other will happen anyways.there’s no winning in this situation sorry
Surprisingly knows when to give the screaming death space
He’s reckless but sensible
Will bribe the screaming death to go on destructive trips constantly
He makes fun of your height, more than ruffnut
Chiken and the screaming death surprisingly get along the best, unlikely but wholesome friendship for the win
Chiken by proxy loves you a lot aswell
So if tuffnut loses chiken he checks you and the screaming death basically first
Somehow carries around a stall with him so you can get to high places when need be
Will kick ruffnut off barf and belch for a ride if you asked
Man Is whipped for you
Don’t leave tuffnut alone with the screaming death though, either he or someone else will die
He at some point becomes something of a second rider to the screaming death,it’s a lot of bribing and treats though and also the fact that he encourages the screaming deaths destructive tendencies
He likes your joyful ness, will also try to bribe you to help him get out of situations he gets himself into
Snotlout
Probally faints during first encounter
Is very worried for everyone’s saftey,it’s a similar situation as to when they took in the injured singetail
Complains a lot about the fact that allowed to bring the SCREAMING DEATH to berk/the edge
He admires you Aton
Your short, shorter then him and look at you go!
Gets a bit jealous of you and may think he’s not good enough
Give him a hug :(
One time during the longest day he ended up snuggling against the screaming death, and survived.after that day they grew abit closer which was sweet
He enjoys your optimism and it’s a good balance since he can be abit pessimistic sometimes
If his dad ever comes to visit and your around he finds himself gravitating towards you,he feels safe with you
Hook fang and the screaming death like tug of war.why?,who knows
They like to play catch with each other aswell, again no idea why
He asks if you want to ride with him and hookfang quite a lot,it’s his way of non verbally getting recognition and validation
He finds himself being a lot less pessimistic when your around and just in general, your jolly personality is infective and effective
He likes to just hug you when he’s feeling down of tired
He picks you up places you in places where you can’t get down easily
He pisses off the screaming death.quite a lot
He likes writing books for you and indulging in your hobbies aswell
Shows you off a ton,as long as you don’t mind though,he doesn’t want to make you uncomfortable
He likes knitting things for you
He also likes it when you both are in the same room, you can be doing something different or even just being quiet,as long as your there he doesn’t mind
He likes to spar alot aswell, but he never lets it get to the point where either of you get hurt
He’s very protective of you despite the fact he dosnt really need to be
He just cares alot

Ateez | The Type To
Hongjoong
toothless smiles. you'll never get enough
knows every little fact about you. it's all stored in his head
but can't always figure out your mood, where he needs your help
picks your clothes or accessories sometimes
lets you do the same
more of the dating-inside kind of guy, but makes the most of when you do go out
if he's busy, he'll acknowledge you with a smile and then go back to work and forget you're there
because he likes to focus on one thing at a time
and when he's not busy he's all yours
but when he is busy and you decide to play naughty, he will focus on the task ahead- you.
and make you regret (in the best way) interfering with his work
which has become your thing now
calls you his 'muse' and def makes you feel like one
esp with the way he kisses you and makes you feel like a puddle
he really doesn't stop his hands from going anywhere he pleases
fav place might be at your hip
or fingers in your hair- might take a liking to tug your hair back to make you look at him at times
which is when he'll give you the most sultry look and tell you exactly what the events following will ensue of
def the type to hold you against the wall and move across the room while you make out
laughs between kisses oh goodness-
teases the fck out of you and makes you a whimpering mess
spends alllll his energy on you but still takes care of you after
bites-
the type to make you watch yourself too- like if you can see him taking you in some reflective surface or a mirror, all the better
and then you won't believe the filth that'll come out of his mouth (tho you love it when he mumbles dirty little things in your ears)
also has his soft moments, which are so intimate that sometimes you feel overwhelmed with love
and he'll constantly assure you he's here, here with you, forever :')
does the most meaningful things for you- brings you your fav food, reforms your clothes or accessories for you, paints with you, lets you try doing something with his music samples, etc etc
he's your captain
Seonghwa
pass you subtle glances from across the room
hold your hand and lead the way whenever you're out
make you walk on the inside of the sidewalk
mother you in every way-- wiping your mouth with his sleeve, fix your hair, fix your clothes, fix you
scold you in the most loving tone possible
which makes you wonder if you're actually getting scolded because you start to get heart eyes
never make you feel insecure- it hurts him more than it hurts you
details. details in everything he says and does (flashbacks to his fav colour being 'glossy silver chrome' like who are you i don't know you-)
which means your dates are detailed asf. he'll have everything planned out and make sure you have the best time
but also love it when you take him out on impromptu dates
scans your face before he kisses you
forehead kisses. temple kisses. it's his thing
plays with you a lot (take your mind out of the gutter i'm talking about actual games like the board games or whatever)
but also plays with you a lot- *coughs*
tongue.
also his fingers are kinda long so-
will pick you up in the middle of your makeout session and take you somewhere more comfortable
goes hard, but it takes him a millisecond to turn soft
and he's the best softie ever.
he's gonna take his sweet time exploring every nook and cranny of your body, learning everything about you
learning what you like
and you'll most of the times feel like it's your first time all over again- that's def how he makes it feel like
tho he certainly spices things up every time
it's just he makes you feel so safe and loved
also i feel like you both bring out the playfulness in each other, in both romantic and platonic ways
he's such a romantic.
he's also capable of driving you insane with his facial expressions alone
takes care of you when you're tired, makes sure you're good, tucks you into bed, spoons you, lulls you to sleep :')
Yunho
okay hear me out-
he is literally your best friend
and i mean in the way best friends know each other inside out
and the way they know exactly how you're feeling by just glancing at you
so with yunho, you always feel safe. his constant vocal and physical reassurances keep you grounded at all times
so you wish to do something in return for him-
but he assures you that you, just like this, are enough
he's not hard to please in that way. he's not demanding but he's not making you feel like he's not interested in you either. he's got that perfect balance
the most comfortable presence out there is what i'm saying
(maybe this^ was my delulu thoughts ok now to the real shit-)
he's always looking at you to make sure you're okay, or there,
but sometimes, something turns him on and his eyes change
and he really, really can't hide when he's turned on. he starts picking at his lips while giving you the most sultry gaze
sometimes you pretend not to notice
which is when he becomes unexpectedly playful and teasing
he knows what his hands on your body do to you (turn you into jelly is what they do btw)
so he's going to give you a backhug and while he kisses your neck or ear, he's going to let his hands travel all over your body
or when sitting on his lap, he'll let them rest on your thighs- purposefully
and we all know what purpose those long fingers could serve
he's def the type who'll cuddle into you while lovemaking- like bury his face in your neck, in the crooks. you think that's soft? he can make it a hard moment too.
groans into your ears 100 % and that sound might be one of the hottest things you've heard
and when he mumbles things in your ears? his voice goes new levels of deep you never heard before.
kisses you like you'll break
also loves pinning you to surfaces
fully capable of manhandling you (lovingly, ofc)
likes experimenting a lot with you, figuring out what you like and what you don't like together
big spoon most of the times you bet
jokes around a lot with you too- he never makes you feel overwhelmed in any situation
but he is also fully capable of driving you insane at times *coughs*
best caretaker you know it
Yeosang
i'm having a vision- what starts as savage remarks thrown at each other turns into a challenge, turns into another different sort of challenge
we'll get there later
cafe dates. chocolates. you better be ready to satisfy his sweet tooth
you love complimenting him bc 9/10 times he's gonna respond with a shy smile that made you fall in love in the first place
he's usually teasing you bc that's his love language but is also the most genuine person you know
so whenever he compliments you or tells you how much he loves you, you know it's straight from the heart
holds your hand whenever he gets the chance
will kiss it too
shy kisses at first
until he gets turned on and his eyes change and the inner demon that we seen in halazia comes out oof
gentle kisses. demanding kisses. we-have-all-the-time-in-the-world kisses. i might be lacking in my vocabulary
hands cradling your face- that's what makes you weak
is pretty vocal and wants you to be vocal too when he does something new or even in routine
there's this switch in him- y'all be having a soft moment and his switch gets flipped and then he's just... banging. wild.
loves foreplay
might have a thing for placing his hand on your throat too i mean he has his moments
and he also lets you have your moments which is sth you love about him
i feel like he loves to drive you to the edge multiple times before he finally lets you have your way
which is hot asf
but is also so nervous about making sure you're okay, you're good with whatever he's doing
so he's gonna spoil you when he takes care of you, which might probably lead to a round two-
anyways time to touch some grass <3
San
this mf istg- *breathes*
okay he's such an eye candy do you think you'll be interested in anything else other than just staring at him 24/7 whenever you're with him-
let's not let these intrusive thoughts win and dive deeper :D
so yeah he is a nature admirer and when he takes you out, you do admire nature but you admire him more
esp the curves and edges of his face
and when he catches you, he gets shy. like actual shy
rewards you with a sweet kiss
and a good old hug
but sometimes, things get... heated instead
so he raises his eyebrow and goes sth like 'you done staring'?
and if you toss a sarcastic remark next (9.9/10 times you do), he'll just attack you
flirts with you in public
unintentional flirt most of the time
his kisses have a wide range spectrum. from being the most slow, gentle, i-might-break-you-if-i-hold-you-wrong kisses to hot, open-mouthed, i-am-going-to-break-you kisses (i cannot englishi-)
and he's really not shy in lovemaking. he knows what he's doing. he takes advantage of it
loves driving you to the edge too. will take so long to actually get to the real deal, just playing with you first and cornering you and driving you insane ugh
the type to pull you into his lap and make you straddle and ride him
tongue-
tbh i feel like it can get really filthy with him in the best way possible
but also, he's the softest when he's in the mood
and you love that he can switch
the type to shut you up with a kiss
also the type to hold you by your chin and have a staredown with you whenever you tease him
which just leads to other things-
hugs
lots and lots of hugs. hugs of every kind.
his laugh heals you :(
he'll always tell you he's there for you, he loves you, how imp you are to him :(
pocket sized hehe
Mingi
he's a princess so he deserves princess treatment. the end.
no but he's such an unfiltered personality i feel like in the sense that it just shows what he wants
you can see it in his eyes when he wants a hug, when he wants to leave some place, or when he wants to steal the last bite of your food-
also very good at reading you even if you argue that you're not that readable
to him you will be bc he pays attention to every little detail
the kind to throw his arm around you while you walk
bonus if it's winters and he wraps you in his coat
the type to tie a scarf around your neck and then pull you with it and give you a kiss
his kisses are the meaningful sort. you can tell by his kiss what mood he's in
like if he's slow and he sighs in between, he's probably feeling down. if he's gonna act naughty you'll know what he wants
which makes it easier for you to lead things
lets you lead most of the time too
unless he's feeling some type of way
and when he's feeling that type of way, you're in for a banger (pun intended maybe)
i feel like he's really good with his core strength even when dancing so uhh just go ahead and imagine
fingers. (getting shy at this point)
probably gives the best head
like can you imagine the tip of his nose brushing at the your most sensitive parts-
likes when you run your hands through his hair
likes to tug your hair even more
might have a marking kink like he'll like it when he can see what he's done to you
but he's also the most responsive and comfortable during intimacy
and can go on forever, makes you feel like you can go on forever with him
cuddles with you when you're done, cuddles long and good
will shower with you and 9 out of 10 times that means a second round-
softie. absolute softie at times ;-;
Wooyoung
you both love to drive each other insane. you'll fight a lot at most random things, end up laughing in the middle of an argument, tease tf out of each other
but at the end of the day there's no one you'd rather be with
he feeds you like his life depends on it
which means he'll make you food, he'll get you to try different things when you go out, and he just likes it when you're happy with food
takes care of you subconsciously- like wiping your mouth, fixing your clothes, rolling your sleeves when you're eating, etc- he doesn't do it on purpose, it's ingrained in him to take care of you
intentional flirt.
which means he makes you flushed with embarrassment in public
he knows how to rile you up, and oh, when you're riled up-
you know you'll go home all heated up which will def result in a hot makeout session
he's not shy to show you how much he likes it when you're making out so he's very vocal
and we all know about his degradation kink LMAO he loves it when you show him his place in the middle of making out
and you love it when he begs for you to do sth
but he's also very, very good at making you beg, oh, he'll push to to the edge and make you fucking cry before he gives you what you want
his hands everywhere on your body.
mumbles things in your ears, dirty things
and then bites you earlobe
you just love it when he breaks away in the middle of making out and pushes your hair back, all the while scanning your face as if making sure you're real before smiling the purest smile ever :(
and when he evil smiles? you know you're in for a ride quite literally
switches most of the time
satisfies you in ways you didn't know were possible
quite possibly plays a lot with you- might have a thing for tied wrists (his or yours, whatever you're feeling like)
keeps telling you how beautiful, how perfect you are, and when he says it? you never feel like he's lying. you start to believe it
boosts your confidence 10000x
honestly he has a contagious energy so you kinda sometimes turn into wooyoung too and he just 🧍
aftercare is a whole new level with him
hugs you to sleep <3
Jongho
he sings for you. what more do you want? :')
you'll have to hide apples from him tho LOL
being with him is very comfortable and... peaceful. like he brings out the calm in you
tho when he cracks a dad joke you start to reconsider-
but he's adorable
slaps your butt at the most random times
and then giggles before he runs away
gives you backhugs at the most random times too
likes to peck your cheeks while you're sitting in his lap watching sth with him
which sometimes makes you kiss him
usually starts slow but there's a certain sense of urgency behind that kiss sometimes
which makes it into a heated makeout session
stares into your soul when he breaks away to catch his breath
dry humping follows
likes seeing exactly what his actions make you feel like
shy at first but he's also confident asf
and he's... strong
it just drives you crazy when he pins you as he thrusts into you like there's no way you can break free from that
and why would you? ;)
has a thing for necks i've said it before i'll say it now
and he knows exactly how to please you
which means that when he's in the mood, he's gonna drive you to the edge multiple times before letting you have what you want
sometimes lets you do the same to him
he loves it when you're on top of him and ride him. perfect place for him to hold your butt and squeeze it
really good at aftercare, makes sure you're feeling good too
bear hugs after. cuddles

It's so confusing and weird that Bridgerton introduced in world racism both with Lady D and Simon in season one of the show and in Queen Charlotte and at the same time they also want the audience to accept that somehow Marina Thompson or the dark skinned Indian Kate Sharma has more privilege and power than Penelope Featherington?
Kate Sharma was also poor, so much more than the Featheringtons. She depended on Lady D to host them. The Sharmas were looked down on by the ton because Mary Sheffield married an Indian. The Sharmas were disowned and ostracized by the Sheffields.
Kate was also an unmarried spinster. No one was asking Kate to dance. As much as Kate wanted love and romance and to dance at a ball wearing pretty dresses, she got none of that. She was also the woman on the sidelines watching as others danced and fell in love.
Racism and colorism is also very much a thing in eurocentric notions of beauty considering the setting and characters of Bridgerton is 99% white.
We got so little of Kate's backstory, of who her parents where - we didn't even get their names!! - of the trauma (explained for both Simon and Anthony using flashbacks) that had Kate overlooking her own happiness for that of her sister.
Despite bragging nonstop about the diversity of Bridgerton the showrunners thought that the white Featheringtons needed more screentime in season 2 rather than the South Asian family.
And Kate was planning on going back to India and work as a governess to pay for her livelihood. Because, you know, there's more honest ways of being a 'working woman' than running the equivalent of the regency 'Daily Mail' dragging other women down. The modiste Madame Delacroix, Kate planning to teach and Sienna in season one are all working to pay a living. Black, brown and lower class women looking to alleviate poverty.
And considering how much harder Kate already had it as an outsider in the ton, it wouldn't have been easy with Penelope using her gossip rag to describe the unmarried Indian woman as ' a Spinster of a beast'. What did Kate do to Penelope to warrant this? Nothing. Just a way for Penelope to make money at Kate's expense.
That's the thing I dislike the most about the way the character of Penelope is written on the show - her victims don't deserve her vitriol and are often in much worse circumstances than her. From Kate Sharma to the unnamed seamstress who apparently lost all her customers because Penelope wrote falsely about their work in the her tabloid as a bribe for Madam Delacroix.
And I think that's what I find problematic about the writing of the show and even the discourse surrounding it - when characters like Marina Thompson (the poor black cousin who would have ended up destitute on the streets because of Penelope) and Kate Sharma arguably have it far worse than Penelope Featherington as per the show's writing and yet we are supposed to have the most sympathy for Penelope because her crush Colin didn't love her back and she's a curvy white woman?
I guess that's the difference between how I perceive this world and these characters as a woc and the majority white female audience for this show and it's such a huge disconnect for me. I guess this is also partly because the show has this badly written and 'strangely toothless racism' as Ash Sarkar beautifully put it. As in the racism is treated in this world as a little problem solved by handing out a few titles to black people instead of being a white supremacist ideology which treated black and brown people as inferior, serfs and slaves.
From what little we got from season 2, Kate Sharma definitely did not have it easy navigating the ton as a poor outsider and that certainly contributed to her poor choices. She is also put through the wringer, treated like the other woman, is miserable for several episodes, had to apologize again and again and nearly die before Edwina forgives her!
In contrast Penelope's actions have hurt so many and yet she gets a pass by both the show and a fandom that wants Colin to grovel before her because of a single offhand remark and because he didn't return her affections.
Also making it clear here that I am not comparing Penelope to the male characters who always get the better writing, flaws and all. I am comparing Penelope to the female characters of colour - Kate Sharma and Marina Thompson.
I mean, Marina Thompson gets so much vitriolic and sexist hatred for not having told Colin Bridgerton the truth of her pregnancy. How dare Marina hurt this privileged white man Colin Bridgerton. When she was desperate to not end up destitute on the streets or get raped by old white men. And yet Penelope gets a pass for hurting women like Marina and Kate.
It continues a trend of white female characters never being held to the same standard as female characters of colour. Daphne sexually assaults Simon in season one and that was not even addressed on the show. Male rape is apparently no big deal because Daphne wanting children is what's important. It's Simon who has to apologize and within one episode resolve his trauma and accept being a father. This is despite both Daphne and Penelope having more screentime and more writing that builds their character unlike the stick thin writing given to Kate Sharma in season 2.
So yeah, I will be checking into season 3 to watch the ten minutes we get with Kate Sharma since we got so little of her in her own season and it's so singular to get dark skinned south Indian characters in a period drama romance like this. It's just the way the writing on the show, the production and even the fandom treats it's characters, especially characters of colour has been disappointing to say the least.

— HUDDLE OF LOVE, joe burrow.
PAIRING: Joe Burrow 𝔁 Black!Wife!Reader
GENRE: Husband & Dad Joe
SUMMARY: In which — Joe faces an injury that brings his season to an early end, and when he gets home his wife makes sure that he knows his injury doesn't define him.
NOTE: I honestly feel like I ate this one up. But I also didn't really proof-read it, so don't hold me to that lol! This has been sitting in the drafts since Joe was hurt so it's been a min. Please send in some suggestions because writing is so fun to me now. Enjoy!
UNIVERSE: Tenderhearts & Touchdowns!
"Y'know, football is a tough sport, and injuries are unfortunately a part of it. We'll regroup, support each other, and continue to fight through the rest of the season; but, as of now, it's looking like Joe will be out for the rest of the season." Coach Zac Taylor spoke into the microphone, Y/N's head fell into her hands as she exhaled the breath she hadn't realized she was holding in. That was all Y/N needed to hear, picking up the remote before shutting the television off.
Y/N had to watch her husband suffer an injury during his game against the Ravens, and if it weren't for the huge mess her children were making — they probably would've seen it to. Thankfully, they were being too rowdy to hear anything that was said on the television. She directed Hudson to the playroom so he could distract himself, and she began running Elijah's bath water first.
She tried to distract herself with things to do, knowing the emotions she was feeling were just lesser versions of what her husband would be feeling once he got home. She was now nine months pregnant, and even though she walked with a very noticeable waddle, she got around pretty well. Not to mention, it's way easier to move around when there's only one baby inside you rather than two.
She finished washing Elijah's blonde curls and got him in his pajamas before sending him to the playroom with one job — "Tell your brother I said come on." She instructed, her son playfully giving her a soldier salute before running down their tiled hallway. Within one minute, Hudson stood right behind her as she finished running his warm water. "Can I get some bubbles, mama?"
Y/N smiled at her baby boy, "Yes, baby. You can get some bubbles." She replied, dumping a small cap full of vanilla scented bubbles in his warm water. She let her child play on his own while she sat on top of the toilet seat, watching him in adoration as he continuously pushed a small boat around in his water. "Okay, bub. It's time to get washed up now.
Hudson had no complaints, doing what he could on his own before asking his mother for help. She slowly got to her knees in front of the tub, being careful when she dumped cup fulls of water onto her son's head. Once she had his hair washed, she got him out and got him dressed in his matching pajamas with Elijah. Both of them being covered in orange and black tiger stripes, a large number nine on the back, along with the lettering "Baby Burrow".
"Can you tell bubba it's time to brush our teeth?" She asked Hudson, finishing up rubbing in the dollop of child's face lotion into his skin. Hudson nodded with a toothy, but pretty but toothless, smile before he took off running to grab his twin brother.
She grabbed their step stools from under the cabinet and got their tooth brushes ready, handing them each their own as they stepped up to the sink. "Hum your ABC's, remember? Mommy is in your room, yell if you need me!" She chirped, smiling at her boys in the mirror as they moved in an identical way.
She exited the bathroom, entering their shared bedroom and untucking their sheets for them. She clicked their LED light remote a few times, landing on the color blue for the evening. She always set an hour long timer; so that by the time the boys are knocked out, so were the lights.
She waddled back into the bathroom, seeing her twins already washing their hands as they knew they were supposed to. Her boys were already so smart and they were only three, she couldn't wait to see how intelligent they were in their classrooms. "All done!" Elijah turned around and exaggeratedly jumped from the step stool, of course Hudson mirrored his actions and did a hop of his own.
"It's time for bed, my loves." She smiled warmly, seeing their faces light up as they already knew what she was about to ask. "Who can get in their bed quicker?!" She asked, and both of her boys jumped off of their back leg and sprinted towards their shared bedroom. She giggled, turning off the bathroom lights before running a hand through her curly hair.
"Who won?" She asked, smirking at her boys as she entered their blue toned bedroom. Instant chatter filled the room, fingers pointed at themselves yelping about how they won, before turning their hand and accusing the other of being a cheater. Y/N couldn't help but laugh, no matter how many times they do this, it's always the exact same. "We can have a rematch tomorrow night, alright? We'll let daddy be the judge."
Both of them liked that idea, loving anything that had to do with their father. Y/N's stomach twisted at the reminder of Joe's injury, knowing he was no more than an hour and a half away now. With forehead, cheek and tummy kisses from both of the boys, Y/N sat on the floor between their beds and began reading their favorite bedtime stories.
As the stories unfolded, Y/N could feel the gentle kicks of her unborn baby, seemingly enjoying the bedtime tales. The connection between the growing family was palpable in these intimate moments.
The room, once echoing with lively laughter, now settled into a serene atmosphere as Y/N stood from her spot on the floor. "Sweet dreams, my little stars," she whispered, planting a kiss on each of their foreheads. The twins, eyelids growing heavy, whispered their sleepy goodnights. Y/N, with a content smile, left the room, closing the door gently behind her.
Y/N decided to take a quick shower, using the bathroom down the hall from her boys' bedroom just in case they woke up needing her comfort. She stepped out, washing her face and brushing her teeth, making her way to her and Joe's bedroom to put some clothes on. She always found herself freezing in her sleep, so she decided on a figure-hugging black long sleeve and a pair of customized sweatpants, the choice of lettering being "BURROW" right on her bottom.
She replaced her contacts with glasses and her tall socks with slippers, she tied her hair up into a messy ponytail before taking a seat at her marble island. She had tons of lesson plans to catch up on, doing them before the birth of her baby seemed like a good plan — because obviously, once the baby was out and a little bit older, she would have to return to work. She was an elementary school teacher, having a love for all children, no matter if they were her's biologically or just because it was her job. From a young age, she knew that she wanted to have an impact on people's lives, what better time to start than when their brain is still freshly developing?
★
Y/N had just closed her MacBook with a sigh when she heard the lock on the front door beep, indicating that someone with the code had just unlocked it. She chose to stay seated, not wanting to immediately bombard Joe once he got through the door. She continued to organize her stack of lesson plans, going on as if she didn't hear the shuffling at the front door.
It was unusually quiet to Joe, he furrowed his eyebrows as he turned his head. He listened for some sort of greeting, his eyes scanned the view of the house that he had. Nothing. No pattering of his children's feet, no scolding from his wife about their running, no 60's record spinning from the living room. He finally called out, "Hello?"
Y/N took that as her cue, sliding off of the barstool before waddling into the living room. She watched as Joe's expression visually relaxed, his shoulders now slouched as she smiled at him. "Hi, handsome. I missed you." She said happily, taking her hands and placing one on each of his rosy cheeks.
Joe wrapped his good arm around her waist. "I missed you more." He replied, looking into her eyes as she rubbed circles under his puffy eyes. Y/N helped him remove the duffle bag from his shoulder, carefully placing it on the bench near the door. Joe slid his shoes off, using his one good arm to lean on the wall as a way to steady himself. Y/N watched from a few feet away, waiting for Joe to break the silence himself.
That was when she noticed the anxious look on his face, he walked up to her and she looked up at him in concern. "Are they sleepin' already?" He asked, chewing on his bottom lip as he searched his wife's eyes. She nodded.
"Yeah, they've been out for a little over an hour now." She reassured him, knowing why he was feeling anxious and worrying about his children. He had always expressed his fears of parenthood and how his career could possibly affect that. Tonight would be one of those nights, luckily, Y/N knew that she could reassure him that the boys were not watching when he suffered his injury.
"You wanna go see 'em?" She asked, placing a hand on his arm lovingly. Joe nodded, blinking rapidly as he pulled his beanie from his head.
She reached out for his hand, he took it and tried to give her a soft smile. There was an understanding of what Joe was feeling, so they didn't need to say a thing as they ventured off upstairs. They stopped at the boys' bedroom door, and Y/N twisted the door knob as quietly as she could. She opened the door just enough that Joe could poke his head in and see his sleeping twins, Y/N followed his actions and a warm smile grew on her face. A regular occurrence in their room was Elijah getting out of his bed, and finding his way to Hudson's so they could sleep together. No matter how many times Y/N and Joe exited their room with them in separate beds, they would always come back to them sharing one.
Joe's chest heaved slower than before, letting Y/N know he had calmed down even if it wasn't much. "They're alright, honey," She spoke softly, using a warm tone that reassured Joe easily. It was no secret that toddlers are a lot to handle, but Y/N was a strong woman and knew how to work with her children. Sure, they were a handful today — but she would much rather chase them around the house, than try to wrangle them in the football stands.
Her round belly brushed against Joe's flat one as they stood close to each other, his good arm around her waist and her hand on his chest. "Absolutely pooped from all the hell they raised today." She continued, earning a soft chuckle from her husband, but another wave of silence quickly washed over them.
A million thoughts swirled around in Joe's head, his eyes darting from each of his son's faces. He inhaled deeply, then turned to face his wife with tired eyes. "Did they se—" He started, his voice cracking before he could even finish his question. But there was no need, Y/N knew him like the back of her hand, and she already knew what he was about to ask.
She shook her head, moving her hand from his chest to run through his blonde hair. "No, they were being noisy with all their toys when it happened. And I got them ready for bed right after." She explained, her eyes searching his for some sort of response. All he could do was nod, nibbling on his lip as she looked at the walls around them instead of his wife. "Why don't we go lay down, huh?"
They traveled down the hall to their bedroom hand in hand, the low chatter of their bedroom tv was the only noise they heard as they entered. The news reports dimly lit their bedroom, casting shadows on the walls as it bounced from frame to frame. Y/N didn't want to poke the bear just yet, so she decided to let Joe do his own thing while she freshened up before bed. Once she turned the faucet off, she heard a faint sniffle from their connected bedroom. She quickly wiped her hands on her sweats before exiting the bathroom.
She came out to find Joe standing in their tall mirror. He used his sleeve to wipe his nose, noticing that Y/N had came out of the bathroom. The television mentioned his name for what seemed like the millionth time that night, Joe's eyes snapped to the floor hearing it. Y/N gave a sympathetic frown, watching as he took a seat at the foot of their bed. She sat down next to him, placing a hand on his thigh.
"What did they say?" She asked, looking toward him but he was focused on the television in front of them. He brought his good arm up, rubbing his ear as he always did when he was upset. He could the frustration building up once more, he sucked in a deep breath and held it for a few seconds. "A torn ligament." He replied.
Y/N nodded her head, "I'm not gonna tell you you're gonna bounce back because I'm sure you've heard that plenty of times today." She began, "We both know you will. You'll just have another surgery to repair it."
"Another surgery." He repeated, shaking his head and rubbing his temples. He still hadn't faced her, feeling too defeated to look her in the eyes now.
"You'll play again." She assured him, her hand coming up to play with the hairs at the back of his neck. "I know you will." Joe sat with his shoulder's slumped, the loss of the game resting heavily on them.
"I know." He sighed, moving his gaze to stare at the floorboards now. Y/N felt as if nothing she would say could help him feel any better, so she chose to let the silence consume them once more. The low chatter of the television continued, it was beginning to annoy her with how many times they'd brought up Joe's injury. The game has been over for hours now, we get it. With that, she got up from her spot beside Joe and turned the television off completely. The sudden movement made Joe look up, from the ground, watching as his wife waddled back to her spot beside him.
The silence was broken by Joe this time, "I feel like I'm being dramatic." He spoke up, causing Y/N to turn to him with wide eyes. "Honey, you just faced a season ending injury — and you think you're being dramatic?" She asked him, he shrugged his shoulders in defeat.
"I think you've got a hell of a good reason to be "dramatic"." She used her two fingers to quote the word, earning a very dry chuckle from her husband. She dropped her hands to her lap, cocking her head to the side as she looked at him in concern.
He wiped his nose with his sleeve again, forcing a smile and another chuckle before he spoke. "I just hate how long it takes to recover from these things. It's takes a lot of work." He confessed, making Y/N feel like their communication was finally working.
"Yeah, I get that." She began, "But you're strong and you're dedicated to this sport. It'll come so easily to you after your surgery." A small smile grew on his face, but he began to shake his head once more.
"It just really sucks." He said bluntly, "The only thing I'm good at, I can't even do again for ten more months." He huffed, his words spinning a wheel in Y/N's mind. Her lips turned into a frown as he talked down on himself.
"Don't talk like that, Joe." She said, "Football is not the only thing you're good at." Her wedding ring shined as she reached for his right cheek, turning his head to face her. "You're an amazing daddy and an amazing husband. A torn ligament isn't stopping that at all. Nothing is ever going to stop that, you hear me?" She searched his face for an answer, he closed his eyes for a moment as he began to feel them burning with tears.
Joe had always struggled to be vulnerable, but Y/N always found a way to make him crawl out of that shell. He couldn't thank her enough for that. He doesn't think he'll ever be able to, either. "I hear you." He responded, his voice cracking as he spoke. He bit his bottom lip, and nodded his head as he dropped his gaze to his fingers. A silence fell over them once again, but this time it was comfortable.
"We should really get to bed." Joe said, wiping his face with his hoodie sleeve as he stood up from the bed. Y/N's gaze followed him as he held out his hands for her, her eyes grazing over his new cast and sling. He followed her gaze and, in an embarrassed manner, dropped his left arm. She held on tight as she struggled to lift two people's body weight off the edge of the bed, her arms absentmindedly wrapping around Joe's neck. He exhaled a deep breath at her touch, and she let out a breath of relief due to all the moving she'd just done.
"We love you either way." She whispered, grabbing Joe's left hand and placing it on her round stomach. "All of us. We love you, and thats with or without football." Joe let the tears fall from his eyes, and let his hand rest in his wife's stomach as she moved her hand to wipe his falling tears.
He rubbed her stomach in a loving manner, his shoulders bouncing with each quiet sob that he choked out. "Yeah, I know." He barely got out the three words, Y/N kept wiping the tears and rubbing his arms up and down.
"You're strong and you will overcome this. You always recover in a way that shows how truly remarkable you are, Joe. That's never gonna change. No matter how large the obstacle." She grabbed a hold of both of his forearms lightly, being mindful of his injury, making him look her in the eyes. "You're capable of recovering from this set back. And you have nothing to prove to anybody except those boys in there — but they already know their daddy is strong."
"I love you." He said, closing his eyes with a sigh as she placed a loving kiss on his cheek. "I love you more, baby." She then placed a kiss on his lips, pulling him in for one more tight embrace before bed. He walked her to her side of the bed, helping her get under the sheets, before making his way to his side and climbing in right beside her.
Although he let a few more tears fall while lying down, he couldn't help but feel as if he was stronger already. She fell asleep before him, but continued to whisper affirmations and play with his blonde locks in her sleep. She held him to her chest, and his arms wrapped around her very large bump. He looked up at her in admiration, she never failed to amaze him with how patient she was.

bad blood - [h.haddock]
8.2K wordcount
warnings: death mention, panic attack mentions
requested: no
a/n: i usually don’t do author’s notes on my fics bc i don’t think i have really anything to say lmao. however. i wanted to say a quick word about this one, as it’s a kind of old piece but one i was extremely proud of and worked really hard to complete. i loved the humorous parts i wrote, loved the character arc i gave y/n, and just in general really liked how my writing turned out. also, it’s the second longest one-shot (currently) i’ve ever written! anyways, enjoy my lovelies <3
I disliked Hiccup Haddock more than anything else in the entire world. I didn’t like him at all for a very long time, but… well, here is our story.
“Hey love.” A voice appeared next to my shoulder, and I rolled my eyes.
“Go away, Hiccup,” I demanded, refusing to look at him. I was carving a spear out of a wooden stick, so I kept my focus on my knife running back and forth along the wood.
Even without looking at him, I could tell he had a smirk on his face. “Oh love,” he whined. “I want to talk to you.”
He tugged on one of my small braids that ran down the sides of my hair. I whacked his hand away, still not looking at him. “I said go away,” I said again.
He laughed. “I know.”
“So leave me alone.”
A moment’s pause. “But why?”
“Because I hate you and don’t want you around, annoying me to death. I’m busy.”
“But you’re fun to annoy.”
I turned on him, fiercely glaring up at him. The worst thing about Hiccup was how tall he was compared to me. He wasn’t even that tall, I was just super short. Hiccup was a full head higher than me.
Hiccup had a smirk playing around his mouth. “Hey shortcake.”
I hit him. “Shut up, Hiccup.”
“Aww, c’mon sweetheart. I’m bored.”
“That’s nice.” I crossed my arms protectively. Not that Hiccup would ever actually hurt me. Honestly, if it came down to me being in danger, I was pretty sure he’d defend me. I’d known him longer than anybody else I knew.
I might hate him, but it was the truth. Hiccup was an asshole, but I knew deep down he didn’t absolutely hate me. I guess I didn’t hate him, either. He was just a total pain.
“Go ride Toothless or make a friend or do something. Just leave me alone. I don’t care to see you.”
Hiccup sighed, running a hand through his ruffled brown hair. His green eyes flickered with amusement. “Okay, love. I’ll see you later.”
“Don’t call me that.”
He winked. “Sorry love.”
I resisted the childish urge to stamp my foot. “Hiccup!”
He held up his hands. “Okay… okay.” I almost thought he might actually be genuine, until he smirked. “I’ll stop calling you love… darling.”
I knew there was no shutting him up. I turned on my heel without a word, and stamped angrily into my cabin, slamming the door behind me.
Three seconds passed, then there was a knock on the door. I opened it. “Hiccup, go away!”
Hiccup stood there, grinning mischievously. “Fine, fine. Bye, you.”
I rolled my eyes and shut the door. I’d only just turned around when another knock sounded. I gritted my teeth. “Stupid little —“
I opened the door again and stopped short. “Oh! Stoick. Um, hi.” I swallowed. “Sorry, I, uh, I thought you were Hiccup.”
Stoick looked amused. “That’s alright, y/n.”
“Um, would you like to come in?” I offered.
Stoick nodded, and stepped inside. I suddenly felt very conscious of how messy the place was. I didn’t spend much time here, preferring to roam outside or stay at Astrid, my best friend’s house.
“How are you faring up?” Stoick asked.
I shrugged. “I’m okay. Still getting used to the fact that they’re gone, but, you know. It’s okay. I’m okay.”
Stoick nodded. “If you ever need anything, feel free to let me or Hiccup know.”
I groaned internally. “Yeah, like I’d ever ask him for help,” I muttered.
I hadn’t intended for him to hear, but Stoick chuckled softly. “He doesn’t hate you, you know.”
“Sure,” I said. “Because he thinks I’m fun to annoy.”
“That’s not it.”
I waited, but he didn’t elaborate. “O…kay…” I said slowly. “Um. Great. Well, it’s getting late, so if you don’t mind, uh…”
“Oh! Sure, sure,” Stoick said. “Have a good night, y/n.”
A long time after he left, I stood in my empty, cold house, staring at the door, wishing for something to come and fill the hole that was forming inside of me.
“Y/n, did you hear?”
I turned to my best friend. “Um. No. What happened?”
Astrid brushed her hair out of her eyes. “Stoick just told Hiccup he’s going to become chief soon.”
“Cool.” I returned to making the leather straps I’d been softening for my future dragon’s saddle.
See, the thing is, I don’t have a dragon. I know, that’s so weird, everyone in Berk has one, but I’m, well… a dragon killed my parents a few years ago. I’ve never liked them anyways, but after that, I’ve struggled a lot with my feelings about dragons. I’m sure one day I will overcome this fear inside me and own a dragon, but right now? No way.
“That’s all?” Astrid looked offended. “Y/n, that’s so much cooler than cool.” She suddenly laughed. “You know what this means?”
I frowned a little. “No..?”
“Hiccup has to choose a bride.”
I blinked. “Really? Um, so?”
Astrid rolled her eyes, elbowing me as she sat beside me on the ground. “You know you’re in love with him, y/n/n.”
I pretended to gag. “Ugh, as if! Astrid, you know I hate him. I don’t care at all about him in any way, especially not in a romantic way. I don’t care a single little bit if he has to choose a bride.”
“Sure.” Astrid smirked. “You’re secretly hoping he’ll choose you, aren’t you?”
I shot her a glare that warned her to shut up. “He’ll choose you and you know it,” I said.
Astrid wrinkled her nose. “I doubt it,” she said. “Hiccup and I literally never talk. Besides, everybody knows that me and Stormfly are a forever couple.”
I shook my head at her, but I had to smile. “Well, he won’t choose me, and I don’t care about it anyway.”
Astrid looked like she wanted to argue, but she shut her mouth when she noticed someone walking over to us. When I saw who it was, I sighed.
“What do you want?” I demanded.
“Gee, you’re lovely today, darling,” Hiccup teased, plopping himself down next to us.
“Excuse me,” I pointed out. “We didn’t invite you to sit with us.”
Astrid glanced at me, a smirk playing around her mouth. Her eyes were twinkling. I glared at her. I hate you, I mouthed.
I swung one leg over the log so my back was to Hiccup. “So, Astrid,” I said, a little too loudly. “What do you want to do this afternoon?”
“I’m taking Stormfly out for a ride,” Astrid replied. “You’re welcome to join —“
“No,” I said instantly. “Uh, I mean. No thank you. I’m good.” My hands trembled ever so slightly. I coughed, swallowed, and picked up my leather strap, gripping it tightly to stop the shaking.
Hiccup poked his head over my shoulder. “You know—“
I elbowed him in the ribs so hard he tumbled off the log. “Whoa!” he yelped. “Jeez, y/n!”
“Sorry,” I apologised. “I- you startled me.”
Hiccup rolled his eyes. “No I didn’t. You just like hitting people.”
My mouth tightened. “No I don’t. And stop calling me a liar!”
“When did I call you a liar?” He got to his feet, one arm cradling his ribcage. “You’re violent for literally no reason.”
I glared at him. “You just said I was lying. And I didn’t even hit you that hard.”
Hiccup winced. “Uh- yeah you actually did. I think you broke a rib or something.”
I slammed my work to the ground, getting to my feet and facing the boy. “Stop avoiding the fact that you called me a liar! I never ever ever make up anything.”
My eyes glittered with unwanted tears. Involuntary memories sprang into my mind. My parents hugging me. My father’s voice in my hair, my younger voice begging them to promise to return soon. “Of course we will return, darling,” my father said. “We’ve never lied to you, have we now?”
I blinked, forcing the tears away. I hated crying in any situation, but I wouldn’t be able to stand crying in front of Hiccup. I’d never live it down.
“Whatever.” Hiccup glanced at me. His voice suddenly changed. “Want to see something amazing?”
“Yeah,” I grumbled. “The retreating back of your head would be great, thanks.”
Hiccup rolled his eyes. “I’m serious.”
“So am I!” I turned away from him, and only then did I realise Astrid was nowhere to be seen. She must’ve snuck away while Hiccup and I were arguing.
Hiccup’s hand grabbed my shoulder and spun me around. “C’mon,” he pleaded, and his voice sounded genuinely kind. “It’ll be fun.”
I rolled my eyes. “If I come with you, do you promise to leave me alone after?”
Hiccup nodded.
“Fine,” I muttered. “Where are we going?”
He grinned mischievously. “You’ll see.”
Hiccup turned, and I had no choice but to follow; partly because I was curious, and partly because I wanted him to leave me alone, and this was the only way to guarantee that.
We entered the woods that surrounded the village, and I began to get suspicious. “Hiccup?” I asked. “Where exactly are we going?”
He didn’t answer for almost a minute. “You’ll see.”
I rolled my eyes. “First, that’s not a proper answer. Two, don’t you think that you should tell me before you drag me off somewhere?”
He laughed. “C’mon. Don’t you ever do anything adventurous or risky?”
“Yes,” I answered. “I talk to you.”
“Hey!” He shot me a playful glare.
I managed a smirk. “No, but seriously. Where are you taking me?”
He glanced at me over his shoulder. “Okay. Just stay here a moment. I’ll be right back.”
I frowned, and opened my mouth to complain, but before I could say anything, Hiccup had disappeared into the trees. I had no choice but to wait where I was.
Only a few minutes later, I heard a rush of wind, and a midnight-black dragon landed in front of me. Hiccup sat astride Toothless, one hand in the air.
I yelped, taking a few quick steps backward. “I- shoot, Hiccup. Why are you…” My voice died as Toothless stared at me. A shiver ran down my spine, making me feel sick to my stomach.
“Y/n, it’s fine,” Hiccup assured. “He won’t hurt you. Will ya, bud?”
I shook my head, my throat tightening. “I- no. I can’t do this, Hiccup.” I took another step back, my entire body beginning to shake. This. This what had killed my parents. Dragons couldn’t be trusted. No matter how much Hiccup had tried to convince the village, I would never trust anyone, or anything, ever again.
Hiccup frowned. “Fine.” He leaned down and patted Toothless on the neck. “C’mon, bud. Let’s go.”
Without another word, Toothless spread his wings and they soared into the air.
I stood stock still for a whole minute before I realised I was holding my breath. I let it out all in a rush, and staggered a little. I reached out to hold onto a tree truck for support. My legs felt wobbly and unstable.
I decided it was best if I headed back for the village. I didn’t want to hang around in the woods today anymore. I had a sour taste in my mouth, and I needed some water.
I was twenty meters away from my cabin door when suddenly the ground beneath me was swept away. The village got smaller and smaller, and then I realised what was happening.
“Hiccup Haddock!” I shrieked. Toothless was holding onto my forearms, and I was suspended in the air.
“Yes, m’lady?”
“I am going to kill you!” I yelled up at him, panic temporarily pushing aside my utter agony at being defenceless against a dragon.
“Toothless, put her down,” Hiccup commanded.
Toothless flew around a huge pine tree that was significantly taller than most of the forest, and promptly dropped me onto its highest branches.
I clung to the tree truck, shaking. Tears clogged up my throat, and my legs were so trembly I thought I was going to fall and die.
“Y/n.”
At the sound of Hiccup’s voice, I slowly turned to face him. He looked almost sorry, but I knew that was impossible. The little wretch was trying to make me terrified, for what reason I could only guess. This was his biggest prank yet.
“Hiccup,” I said, trying to keep my voice level (and failing), “you will get me down from here, now.” I gripped the tree tighter. “You will take me home this instant, and you will never ever talk to me again. Do you understand?”
He blinked. “But—“
“Do you understand?!” I yelled.
“Fine,” he sighed. “Here.” He held out his hand.
I stared at it for a second, then gingerly reached out and rested my fingertips on his palm. A tingle ran up the length of my arm. He gripped my wrist, and pulled me up onto the dragon behind him.
Every part of my body that was in contact with the dragon’s felt heated up, like I could burst into flames at any moment. My head pounded in sync with my heartbeat, and my palms were getting sweaty. I was, in short, absolutely terrified.
“… let her down slowly.”
I realised Hiccup was talking. “You got that, bud?”
Toothless made an exasperated grunt, sounding more like a sarcastic teenager than a dragon. That didn’t make me feel any better.
Toothless slowly spread his wings, and for a second, I almost relaxed. Maybe he would fly down gently like Hiccup had asked.
The next second, my illusion shattered. Toothless took off so fast I almost toppled off. I was forced to grab onto the nearest thing to stay onboard (on-dragon?). Unfortunately, that thing happened to be Hiccup.
Whatever. I’d rather not die today. I gripped his shoulders so tightly my knuckles turned white. I squeezed my eyes shut tightly, as if not seeing would make it better for me.
The wind whipped in my ears, blowing my dark hair all around my face. I was so scared, so worried, so distraught I felt like crying. I couldn’t, though. I wasn’t dumb enough to cry in front of Hiccup. He would never let me hear the end of it.
Suddenly, I felt the dragon beneath me twisting sideways. We started spinning, twirling in tight circles. My grip tightened on Hiccup’s shoulders.
Someone was screaming, and I was like eighty-five percent sure it was me.
“Toothless!” Hiccup yelled. “Stop this right now! You’re scaring her!”
Toothless took that as a challenge, and dove toward the ocean a hundred feet below. He showed absolutely no signs of slowing or stopping in any way. I opened my eyes, wanting to at least be able to see something in case I died because of this.
“Thanks for nothing, you useless reptile,” Hiccup muttered. I slowly began to realise that maybe Hiccup wasn’t the one at fault here. Of course. It was the dragon’s fault. Dragons weren’t to be trusted, which was exactly what I’d been thinking this whole time.
Just as we were about to hit the water, Toothless opened up his wings. We shot upward, soaring towards the sugar-spun clouds above us.
We levelled out, and my muscles lost some of their tension. Toothless floated in the air, almost flying gently now. I remembered how to breathe, and let out a long, breathless sigh.
“Hiccup,” I managed, my voice hoarse. “I am going to murder you.”
I melted into him, partly in relief that I wasn’t dead, partly in exhausted terror. My arms went around his waist, my forehead falling to rest on his back. My eyes fluttered shut, and a lone tear streaked down my cheek.
Hiccup didn’t say anything for a long while, and so neither did I. Toothless flew long and slow and level, giving me the slightest chance of not murdering him, too.
I’m not sure how long we stayed like that. All I remember is Hiccup’s voice saying softly, “Sweet dreams, love,” before I fell into the welcome arms of sleep.
I woke slowly, curled in a ball inside a warm, soft bed that didn’t feel like mine. When I finally opened my eyes, I realised why it didn’t feel familiar. I wasn’t even in my house.
I sat up, looking around, trying to work out where I was. With a start, I couldn’t even think of a time I’d been inside any other houses in the village except for Astrid’s. I had no idea whose house this was.
“Morning, m’lady,” said a deep voice from the top of the stairs.
I groaned internally. “Oh, gosh, of course it’s you.” I found myself pulling my fingers through my hair, brushing it as nearly as I could, straightening my shirt, rubbing the sleep from my eyes.
I dragged myself out of the bed. I was still dressed in the same clothes as yesterday, my usual top and skirt combo, with leggings underneath for warmth. My boots were lying on the floor, so I yanked them on.
I glanced up at Hiccup, who was hanging over the banisters, watching me. With a jolt, all the memories of yesterday flooded in.
Red-hot anger filled me. I clenched my fists. “Are you gonna come down here, or should I just murder you up there?”
Hiccup’s eyes widened. “I- what?”
“You heard me,” I muttered. My knife was missing from my belt, which was just great. I’d probably lost in on that horrific flight yesterday.
I stomped up the stairs, stopping on the one below the one Hiccup was standing on. He leaned against the banister, raising an eyebrow at me.
“Hey shortcake,” he whispered teasingly. “Sleep well?”
I gritted my teeth. “You are so beyond dead right now, Hiccup.”
He chuckled. “Hey. Blame Toothless, alright? There was nothing I could do!”
I wanted to roll my eyes. “Um, okay. And he’s your dragon.”
“That doesn’t mean I can control him!”
I didn’t answer, my gaze sliding away from Hiccup. I sighed, laid my palm on the cold wood banister. “I don’t ever want you to talk to me again, okay? I don’t want to see you; I don’t want to hear you. I don’t even want to know you exist.”
I felt a glistening tear streak its way down my cheek, dripping off the bottom of my chin. “Just—“ My voice broke. “Just leave me alone.”
I turned, and ran out of the house, leaving his door wide open. I headed for the only place I could think of; the woods.
I didn’t stop running until I was deep in the forest, surrounded by unfamiliar trees. I dropped to my knees in the dirt, buried my face in my hands and cried.
Hours later, I slowly rose to my feet. It was growing steadily dark, and the cold was seeping into my bone. I shivered, and wrapped my arms around myself as I walked around in a small circle.
I realised, horrified, that I was completely lost. I had no idea whatsoever where I was, which direction the village was, or what time of day it even was right now.
I eventually sat down on a rock, pulling my knees up to my chest. The darkness was growing. Soon, I didn’t think I would be able to see a thing. I began to get worried.
Who knew what things might be hiding in the shadows? My hand instinctively went to my belt, my my knife was gone. I cursed under my breath, and stood, pressing my back against a tree. I figured it would be safer than sitting on an exposed rock.
I shivered, wrapping my arms tighter around myself, my eyes turning towards the sky, hoping, for some insane reason, that someone might be out there looking for me.
Who was I kidding? Who was there that even cared about me that much? I didn’t have parents who were waiting back at home, wondering how late I was going to stay out. I didn’t have siblings who would notice my absence.
Astrid wouldn’t notice this late at night. I tended to wander during the day; she was used to that, but at night it wouldn’t even occur to her that I was anywhere but home.
Hiccup briefly crossed my mind, but I truly did not think he cared about me that much. I didn’t even want him to. I was still so mad at Hiccup, thinking about him made it hard to breathe. I hated him.
“I hate Hiccup Haddock,” I whispered under my breath, trying to make myself feel better. My breath made a wisp of steam in the cold air. I watched it as it floated into nothingness.
My vision suddenly blurred, but I couldn’t tell if it was because of exhaustion or tears. I slumped down to the ground, my legs giving way. I drew my knees close to my chest, hugging them to me. My chin rested on my knees, gazing out at the woods, though I could barely make out anything anymore. I couldn’t even see my own hand clearly, let alone anything else.
I’m not sure how long I sat there, but eventually, I slipped into a deep sleep, half-frozen, chilled to the bone, alone and crying in the darkness.
“Y/n! Y/n? Y/n/n?!”
My eyes fluttered open. I groaned in pain. I felt someone’s arms encircling me, carrying me, but I couldn’t make out anything. Everything was blurred, hazy. The person carrying me was talking, but it sounded far away and watery.
I slumped against the person’s shoulder, closing my eyes. I was tired: so, so tired. Everything ached; my head pounded and throbbed.
I don’t think I feel back asleep, but I wasn’t really aware of anything for a long while. Finally, the person slowed to a walk, and laid me down on a couch or a bed or something. A cup was held to my lips, and I gratefully accepted the water.
I blinked several times, and my eyes focused on a very familiar looking boy, who’s green eyes were staring down at me, full of concern.
“Hiccup?” I asked weakly. “What are you…?”
“I found you in the middle of the woods,” Hiccup replied, his eyes darkening slightly. “Are you okay? Do you need anything else? More water? Are-are you warm enough?”
I laid my head back, rubbing my thumb against my throbbing temple. I let out a long sigh, whether it was of annoyance or exhaustion or pain, I wasn’t sure.
“I hate you so much,” I muttered.
“Gee, thanks,” Hiccup answered. He held the back of his hand against my forehead, testing my temperature. “You don’t seem to be too sick. I think you’re going to be okay,” he said, almost to himself.
“I’m not sick at all,” I said firmly. “I don’t even know why you’re taking care of me. I don’t need you. You—“ My voice suddenly broke with emotion. “You did this to me.”
Hiccup’s eyes filled with sorrow. “Look, Y/n/n—“
“Don’t call me that,” I snapped.
He blinked. “Y/n. I-I am so sorry for what happened yesterday. I, well, I thought it might make it better if you saw that dragons aren’t always vicious. Um…” He glanced down, rubbing the back of his neck. “Toothless didn’t really get the memo.”
He looked at me. “I’m really sorry, Y/n. And I hope that maybe someday you can find it in you to forgive me.” He stood, brushed off his pants, and left, closing the door gently behind him.
I lay there for a while, staring up at the ceiling. I hadn’t noticed it at first, but Hiccup had brought me home. I was in my bed, in my house. I could hear small noises from downstairs, which meant that Hiccup was still here. I wasn’t sure what he was doing down there, but I didn’t really care.
What I cared about right now was what he’d said. And what it had made happen inside of me. Was I really as mad at him as I thought I was? After all, he’d gone out and found me, brought me home, taken care of me. Maybe he’d been trying to be nice, and it really was Toothless who had been doing all those things to me. (Which just proved all my theories that dragons weren’t to be trusted).
I thought again of Hiccup’s eyes staring down at me, his sad voice asking me for forgiveness. The worry in his expression when he asked if I was okay. I hated how much I’d liked that. I hadn’t ever been in love, or even had a crush on anyone. I wasn’t sure if this even was a crush, but if it was, I didn’t like it.
I didn’t like the swirling in my stomach when I heard Hiccup’s voice. I hated how much I suddenly wanted him near me. I disliked how I kind of trusted him. I didn’t want to be in love. I didn’t want to have somebody I believed in again.
Last time I’d loved someone, trusted someone, all they’d done was break my heart and leave me forever. My parents. I wondered if part of my hatred inside was because I’d never truly forgiven them for leaving. For dying and not coming back for me like they’d sworn they would. I blinked back tears, brushing my cheeks with the back of my hand.
I swung my legs out of the bed, standing. I swayed a bit at first, but I forced myself to be steady. I yanked on my boots and slowly pushed open my bedroom door. I stepped out onto the landing, peeping over the edge of the banisters.
Hiccup was down in the kitchen. I was shocked at how much cleaner everything looked. I barely ever tidied up. Not that things got particularly dirty, as I spent little time here, but dust had certainly stocked up over the years. Hiccup had scrubbed away the five years of dirt from my home, and it was sparkling.
Something smelled good, too. It hit me like a brick wall that the fire was going, and Hiccup was cooking something over it. It looked like soup or something similar. I hadn’t had a home cooked meal for ages. I hated cooking, so I just lived on things I grew in the garden, or tidbits from friends.
I shifted slightly, and a floorboard underneath me creaked. Hiccup glanced up, and when he saw me, a slight smile flickered across his face. “Hey,” he said.
“Hey,” I said back, not sure what else to say. I mean, I’d just yelled at him, and made it pretty clear I didn’t ever want to talk to him again. What do you say to someone who’s just cleaned your entire house and taken care of you after you told them that? “What are you making?”
Hiccup glanced down at the pot he was stirring, then back up at me. “Chicken and potato soup. Want some?”
I hesitated, but nodded, with a small shrug. “Why not.” I slowly walked down the stairs, my eyes on Hiccup the whole time. I couldn’t seem to tear my eyes away from him.
He noticed me staring and smiled nervously. “What? Am I in trouble?”
I found myself slowly shaking my head. “No, I don’t think so.” I allowed myself a small, watery smile. “At least not yet.”
Hiccup grinned. “Good. Now sit down and eat.”
I obeyed, setting myself down at the old dining table. I wiped my palm on the wood, expecting it to be coated it dirt, but it shone with new cleanliness. My eyes suddenly filled with tears.
“Hiccup…” was all I could manage.
Immediately, Hiccup knelt in front of me. “What’s wrong?” he asked, almost urgently, staring up into my eyes. “Are you alright?”
I swallowed. “You-you cleaned the house… you’re cooking… I- you…” I let out a broken sob.
For so long, so one had cared. Astrid cared the most, but she was busy with Stormfly and her new baby brother and life in general. She’d offered a few times to have me stay with her and her family, but I’d known that would be far too hard for them. I’d always politely told her I was just fine on my own, thank you. But I wasn’t. I knew that. I needed someone to care so badly that now that someone did, someone cared, it almost hurt.
“Hey, hey,” Hiccup said softly, grabbing me by the shoulders. I realised I was shaking.
“It’s alright,” he assured me. “Come here.” He brought me into a hug, which at first both startled and scared me, but then I melted into it. The hug felt unfamiliar, different, awkward. But nice, somehow.
But this was Hiccup. I untangled myself from him. “Uh,” I stammered, tucking my hair behind my ear, eyes flitting away. “Thanks.”
Hiccup shrugged. “It’s fine.” He stood slowly. “Are you sure you’re okay?”
I nodded. “Yes. I mean, no. I-I guess? I’m not sure…” I stared up at him. “Hiccup, why are you doing this?”
His eyes narrowed slightly. “What do you mean?” He gestured around. “You needed help. You need help. I am the son of the chief; soon to be the chief myself. It’s my job to help the village.”
Something inside me wilted a little. So this was just part of the job to him? The rest of me internally yelled at that bit to shut up, and that we hated Hiccup, so it doesn’t matter what he does. But why did I hate Hiccup?
Thinking back on it now, I really didn’t think he had ever done anything truly bad towards me. Yeah, sure, he’d been a total tease, but I was a rude, bitter, secluded brat to be honest. I didn’t deserve any help from him.
I blinked back unwanted tears. “Um, well, I really appreciate it,” I said. “It was really nice of you to come looking for me.”
Hiccup studied my face for a moment, then pursed his lips and nodded once. “It’s okay, Y/n/n.”
Something inside me jolted. No one had called me that in years before today, when Hiccup had started to. It was the nickname my father had given me. Hearing Hiccup use it had just opened up a deep wound inside me I hadn’t even remembered.
“Please don’t call me that,” I whispered, staring at the floorboards. My feet hung limply in the air just above the floor.
Hiccup glanced over at me from where he was standing, stirring the soup. “Um, okay. Sorry, Y/n.” He stressed my name, saying it slightly slower than the rest of his words.
There was so much tension in the air, and I realised it was all my fault. I made the room awkward and made Hiccup have to watch everything he said. I was a terrible person.
I’d even told Hiccup never to talk to me again, right after I’d woken up in his house. It hit me that he must’ve taken me there after the awful flight on Toothless. Then, I’d screamed in his face that I hated him, and gotten myself lost in the woods because I was selfish and prideful and full of hate.
Even then, Hiccup had gone out and found me. Who knew how long that had taken him? He’d brought me back here, cleaned my house, made me food, and for what? For me to be snappy, harsh, and rude.
I ran my tongue over my lower lip, staring resolutely at the floor. “Hiccup?” I managed finally.
“Yeah?”
“Why are you doing this?” I looked at him, leaning forward with my elbows on my knees. “Be honest.”
Hiccup hesitated, stirring the wooden spoon listlessly around the soup. “What do you mean?” he said finally.
I sighed, sitting up straight and brushing off my skirts. “You know… helping me.” I have a little laugh. “Heavens knows you don’t need to. So why are you really doing all this?”
Hiccup chewed his lip. “Because I’m going to be the Chief of Berk pretty soon. I need to be able to protect my people.” His gaze fixed on mine. “Even when they don’t like me, or want me to.”
Under his fierce eyes, my insides crinkled. I felt exposed, as if I was being examined under a bright light. I dropped my gaze.
“I’m sorry…” I managed, the words sounding funny in my mouth. I hadn’t apologised to Hiccup, for anything, ever.
“It’s okay.” His voice sounded surprisingly even, like he wasn’t even bothered about all this. So it was just me feeling all these things, was it? He was truly just doing this out of a sense of duty. And honestly, why shouldn’t he? I’d already told myself I was a rude little brat, to be totally honest. I didn’t deserve to have people look after me, at all.
I didn’t meet Hiccup’s eyes. “Um, that’s cool. But thank you, really.”
Hiccup nodded, and handed me a steaming mug of hot soup. “Eat up,” he said. “I’ll leave you the rest… have a good night, Y/n.”
And with that, he disappeared. The house felt suddenly very small and lonely, and I shrunk into myself, staring into the fire, sipping tiny bits of soup until I was all warmed up inside.
I gazed around the cabin. It looked so different, all shining and clean. It made me feel like maybe I might be able to move on; get over them leaving me. I shook my head. That would never happen. I didn’t think I was capable of letting it go, of moving forward with my life. I was seventeen years old, and I still held a grudge against my parents for ‘abandoning’ me when I was twelve.
Thoughts whirled through my brain, at an almost dizzying rate. I left my mug on the table, and went to stand by the open window, facing out into the main road of Berk.
A few children were playing in it, kicking a round wooden ball to each other. I watched them for a minute or two, before an absurd idea struck me. I pushed open the front door. “Hey!” I yelled.
The kids turned to look at me, momentarily forgetting their game. “Can I join you guys?” I asked, feeling brave.
The oldest girl looked confused for a moment, then after a brief pause, gave me a smile and a nod. “Sure!” she called.
I grinned, and shut my door behind me, jogging over to them. Playing ball was something I hadn’t done in years, but it felt good to just relax for a while. Plus, it was amazing to see others doing an activity that didn’t revolve around dragons, so I could join in.
Dragons. I shuddered a little, remembering the awful ride on Toothless, and making my feelings around Hiccup even more complicated.
After a good long play, I collapsed to the ground in a heap, blowing up my breath. “Gosh,” I managed. “I can see why kids like playing ball. It’s fun.” I offered the girl who’d let me come play with them a small smile.
“You’re Y/n, aren’t you?” the girl asked, her eyes narrowing slightly.
I hesitated. How did they know who I was? I never really talked to anyone except Astrid, Hiccup and a few other people. Certainly not the children.
“Yeah, I am,” I said slowly. “How do you know my name?”
The little girl allowed herself a smug smile. “Hiccup told us about you.” Turning, she threw the ball to one of her friends.
I was dumbfounded. “Hiccup?”
The girl nodded. “Yeah. He told us you guys used to be friends but now you’re mean to him and won’t let him be nice to you anymore. He said he misses being your friend.”
I wrinkled my nose, staring at her. “Hiccup said he misses me?” I scoffed finally. “There’s no way. You must have heard him wrong. Hiccup hurt me incredibly badly when we were six years old, and ever since then he’s teased and bothered me almost to death. I will never be his friend again.”
I stood, suddenly angry all over again. Angry about how hurt I was, how much I hated Hiccup and my parents for hurting me. I clenched my teeth. “Thank you for letting me join you. Bye.”
I turned and began the walk uphill to Astrid’s house. Right now, I really needed to see my best friend.
When Astrid opened the door, she immediately noticed something was wrong. She frowned. “Are you alright?”
I shook my head. “Everything is so hopeless, A.”
Astrid made a sympathetic face and pulled me into a tight embrace. “It’s okay,” she whispered into my shoulder. “Come on, come inside. It’s freezing.”
Maybe it was. I felt so numb I didn’t think I would’ve noticed even if it was cold enough to give me frostbite. I felt like my insides were frozen, unable to feel anything at all.
Astrid pulled me inside, sitting me down on a chair beside the roaring fire. She knelt down in front of me. “What happened?” she asked, staring into my face.
I shook my head, looking away from her. “I… I don’t even know…” I began to cry, dropping my head in my hands.
Astrid pursed her lips, hugging me again. “Is it your parents? Hiccup? Tell me.”
I took a deep breath, and slowly began to tell her the entire story, beginning yesterday, when Hiccup took me into the woods and the whole, horrible ride on Toothless began. I kept my eyes steadily fixed on the fire as I spoke, quietly recounting the flight, the fight, being lost in the woods and then Hiccup rescuing me and cleaning my house. I even told her about the awkward hug.
The only thing I couldn’t manage to admit to Astrid was how I felt about Hiccup. I couldn’t decide if I hated his guts, or if I wanted nothing more than to be in his arms again.
When I was finished, Astrid let out a long sigh. “I’m sorry, babe,” she said. “But if you ask me… Hiccup wasn’t at fault for what Toothless was doing during that flight. I think he might be telling you the truth; that he just wanted you to see that dragons aren’t dangerous.”
I nodded slowly. I was beginning to believe that. Of course, that just made me hate dragons even more, but there was no point saying that aloud. Astrid knew I hated dragons even more than I hated Hiccup. I would never, ever trust a dragon.
Astrid studied me. “Do you want to know what else I think?”
I glanced at her. “By the look on your face, no. But I guess you’re going to tell me anyway, so… sure.”
Astrid suppressed a smile. “You know me too well,” she said. “But, what I think is, you don’t hate Hiccup at all. You’re just angry. At your parents mostly. But Hiccup hurt you too, years ago. You’re alone now, so you’re taking out your anger on the only person you have any sort of justification to do so to.”
I was silent. Sadly, her words rang hard and true. I could finally see that, yes, my hatred of Hiccup was really just anger at myself, and my parents. It had honestly nothing to do with Hiccup himself. He’d just been unfortunate enough to annoy me all those years ago, so now I’d decided to hate him because of it.
I shook my head in disbelief. “I’ve been so stupid,” I muttered.
“Not stupid,” Astrid said. “Kinda crazy, maybe, but not stupid.”
I looked at her. “I think… I think I should go and apologize to someone.”
She smiled. “Go.”
I jumped to my feet and ran, leaving her front door swinging open in the wind.
I didn’t stop running until I reached Hiccup’s house. I burst inside without thinking about knocking, but stopped short on the threshold.
“Stoick!” I gaped, trying to find the right words. “I, I am so sorry—“
“Y/n,” Stoick replied, getting to his feet. “What brings you here in such a hurry?” His eyes narrowed. “Are you alright?”
I nodded breathlessly. “What? Yes. Yes, I’m fine, thanks, I just —“
“Were you looking for Hiccup?”
I pursed my lips. “I might’ve been.”
Stoick chuckled. “You’ve got spirit, lass. I like that about you.”
I blinked. “Um, thank you?”
“He’s at the beach.”
I smiled. “Thank you, Chief.”
The path that ran towards the beach was thin and steep, covered in loose rocks that skidded under my shoes. More than once I almost fell off the cliff side.
When I reached the beach, I was surprised at how small it seemed. Then again, I hadn’t been here since I was little. I guess my memories of it had faded. With a start, I realised that the last time I had been here was probably with Hiccup himself, back when we were small and best friends.
I spotted Hiccup’s figure walking through the surf a few hundred meters away. I started toward him, slowly in case I scared him with a sudden approach.
The beach itself was small and rocky, round black stones instead of proper sand. The waves here were little and inconsistent, barely making a splash. Sometimes in the summer, we would have a day or two of good weather, and the waves would be bigger, but that was a pretty rare occurrence.
I reached Hiccup, who was now standing with his hands buried in his pockets, his eyes fixed on the horizon.
“What do you see?” I whispered.
“Freedom,” he replied softly, turning to look at me. “When I’m riding Toothless, nothing is impossible. Me, a human, can fly on the back of a dragon. There is something magical about that, Y/n.”
I chewed my lip, considering his words. I guess there was something amazing about that fact, but still… dragons.
“Um,” I said. “I came here to apologise.”
Hiccup’s green eyes turned a darker shade. “For what?”
I dug the side of my shoe in the sand, my eyes sliding away from his. “For… everything.”
He waited, his eyes roaming my face.
I swallowed. “For not being your friend when I should have been. For hating you and your love for dragons. For being a terrible person. For hitting you and hating you and making your life miserable.” During this little speech, my voice had gotten higher and louder. Now it broke, and I felt tears brimming to my eyes. “I’m so sorry, Hiccup,” I cried.
Hiccup didn’t say anything. He stared at me for a count of five, while tears began to stream down my cheeks. What was wrong with me this week? For years, I’d barely cried at all, hiding my emotions inside. Now I was crying, again.
Hiccup did something I didn’t expect. He grabbed my face between his hands. They were tougher than I would’ve thought, calloused and hard from working with metals and wood and materials. He stared into my eyes for long enough for my tears to stop flowing. “Y/n,” he said. “It’s okay. You were forgiven years ago.”
He pulled me into a tight embrace. A week ago, I would’ve fought and hit and yelled at him, but now? I melted into Hiccup’s body, burying my face in his chest and wrapping my arms tightly around him, letting my tears flow freely.
For the first time since my parents died, I felt at peace.
For the next three weeks, I tried my hardest to start a routine. To start cleaning my house, cooking meals every day, and (the hardest part of all), going out and talking to someone each and every morning.
Sometimes I just talked to Astrid, when it got bad and I truly couldn’t get enough emotion energy to talk to anyone else. But sometimes I managed. I talked to the kids playing in the streets, to the other girls I never really talked to before, to the guys helping out in the dragon-saddle-making workshop.
But mostly, I talked to Hiccup. I talked to him as if we’d never stopped being friends, as if we were six years old again. It honestly surprised me how easy it was to get along with him now that I didn’t have an eternal grudge against him. Hiccup was still the same person he’d always been. It was me who had changed.
I made an effort to even start working. I’d never done anything like it before, really, but it was honestly alright. I had a few shifts at the dragon workshop a week, and it was kind of fun after a while. Yeah, sure, I still got terrified when someone actually brought their dragon to the shop, but for the most part it was good.
Hiccup worked there sometimes as well, and so did Stoick. Astrid didn’t, because she was a dragon trainer and didn’t really have the time. I would’ve liked it if we were able to work together, but there was no way I would be able to train dragons. At all.
But, you know, life was pretty alright. I still had scars, deep and hidden and probably incurable, but I also had friends. And hope. And maybe, just maybe, a future.
I woke up screaming. My bedsheets were clutched tight in my fists, a tangled mess around my legs. Hot tears were still rolling down my cheeks, and my chest heaved, as if I’d just run the length of the island in my sleep.
I tried to swallow, tried to even out my breathing. My mouth was so dry I could barely swallow properly. I reached for the glass of water that I always had beside my bed, and gulped it down.
I could still evision the awful images from my dreams. Hiccup, Astrid, my parents, all trapped in a circle of flaming dragons. They were screaming for me, calling my name. I couldn’t move, my legs seemingly stuck to the ground. I could do nothing but watch as the dragons slowly spread over the bodies of my loved ones, devouring them. I sank to my knees, screaming in agony.
I shivered, climbing out from under the sheets. I needed to get out of this empty house. I didn’t care if it was the middle of the night, I had to see someone.
I hurried down the stairs, bursting out into the night. Stars glittered in the sky, the night quiet and bright. The cold wind hit me like a wall, and I shuddered. I hadn’t thought of grabbing my jacket.
My feet moved faster than my mind, taking me somewhere that I didn’t even know I wanted to be. I slipped inside Hiccup’s house, tiptoeing to where I knew his room was.
Outside his door, I finally realised what I was doing. Sneaking into Hiccup’s room in the dead of night? What was I thinking? Was I crazy?
Maybe I am, I thought, slowly pushing open Hiccup’s door. I stood still on his doorway for a moment, before quietly slipping over to the side of his bed.
“Hiccup?” I breathed, almost soundlessly.
“Y/n?” Hiccup was instantly awake, sitting up in his bed. “What are you…? Why are you here? Are you okay?” His voice was hoarse from sleep, and he squinted at me.
I hesitated. What was I supposed to say? Oh, I just had a dream about you dying and it terrified me so I’m here to make sure you’re still alive? Of course I wasn’t going to say that.
“I had a nightmare.” I bit my lip, shifting from foot to foot. Maybe this hadn’t been such a good idea.
Hiccup’s dark eyes gazed into mine. He leaned back slightly, so he could see me more clearly. “Why did you come to me?” he asked quietly, his voice ragged and raspy.
I dropped my gaze. “You were the only one I thought of coming to,” I whispered. “I knew you wouldn’t mind.”
“Of course I wouldn’t mind,” Hiccup said. “Do… do you want to stay here? Or do you want me to walk you back to your house?”
I hesitated. “Could I please just stay here, with you?” I met his eyes for a brief second.
He smiled. “Anything for you.” He said it so flippantly, I might’ve missed it any other time. But my brains snagged on the words, turning them over and over in my mind. Anything for you…
“Thank you, Hiccup,” I whispered. We were both silent for a while. “Can I… can I stay with you until morning?” I asked.
Hiccup stared at me, then nodded. I slowly crawled onto his bed, leaning against the bed-head. Hiccup glanced at me, then lay back down on his pillow. After a moment, I snuggled down next to him, hyper aware of every part of my body under the sheets.
We were nose to nose. I could feel his hot breath on my face. His green eyes glittered in the darkness.
“Goodnight y/n,” he whispered groggily. “I hope you don’t have any more nightmares.” With that, he closed his eyes, and I heard no more from him.

fluff & smut
warning(s) : smut ! (hehe)
author’s note : a lil 3 am hc post bc i was having a jack breakdown (oops)
༺═──────────────═༻
fluff !!
Jack likes to keep most of his relationships private
not his relationship with you though. within a few weeks of your relationship being official, rumors swirl about the two of you
Jack embraces them and makes your relationship public when he posts you on his instagram when he posts his summer photo carousal before the season starts
you are close with his brothers as a result of being with jack, but you’re closer with Luke because he’s constantly around
Jack’s love language is physical touch and words of affirmation
you are there for him when he has both ups and downs during the season (especially when he’s down and in a slump)
he buys you a chain with his number on it for your birthday and you wear it to the first game you go to after receiving it
Jack is the worst patient when he’s hurt because he wants to get back on the ice, but with some bribery, you get him to cooperate so you can nurse him back to health
you go on the yearly summer trips to the lakehouse in Michigan that the Hughes boys take during the offseason
you’re friends with his friends that go to the house every year, especially Trevor and Cole
you liked the toothless look he had after the playoffs in 2023 and begged him to embrace it, but he still got it fixed anyway
Jack lets you borrow his Devils gear when you go to games, especially his jersey because he loves seeing you with his name across your back
you get him a bracelet he can wear on the ice with your names on it
the internet freaks out when you make your official wag debut in 2023 with the playoff jacket reveal, and Jack plays into it by posting you in your jacket on his story
✧・゚: *✧・゚:*
smut / nsfw !!
Jack will fuck you whenever and wherever he can
he very much likes shower sex because he craves you after every game and he can never wait until he has his postgame shower
opposite of that, he will fuck you until you can’t walk after a rough game. he will use your body to get off, and you let him because you think it’s hot
lazy morning sex !!! especially when he had a day off and you all to himself
quickies are necessary sometimes because of both your schedules being insane. closets at the rock are never safe when the two of you are around and Jack is needy
Jack has a hair pulling kink. it’s the reason he keeps his hair on the longer side
he also has a praise kink and loves when you tell him how good he’s doing when he fucks you
Jack will get super jealous if a guy talks to you, and he will get super touchy in front of said guy. it usually ends with the two of you in the backseat of his car because you love how possessive he gets
88.5% of the time, he will take his time and make sure he pleasures you as well as himself. the other 12.5%, he’s pounding into you like no tomorrow. this is what happens after he or the team has a rough game
he looooves when you ride him
he also loooooves when he can fuck you and see your face when you come
Jack is a giver and receiver. he enjoys watching you fall apart because of his tongue. you can always make him come in your mouth with a good blowjob

I'm gonna say it; Hiccup did nothing wrong. We're treating him as the biggest problem of THW when literally his worst crime in is somehow losing his freckles and that's not even something he has control over. Oh and that kind of incredibly stupid plan of literally moving an entire people by going "let's just fly straight until we hit something :) even though I, Hiccup Haddock, somehow don't believe the world is round."
The entire rest of the movie is everyone else around him being horrible and out of character.
Berk is a mess in the beginning of the movie, yes. But it was also just a year ago that his father was horribly murdered in front of him because Draco Bloodyfist-Or-Whatever decided to sent his mind controled best friend after him. Everybody expects Hiccup to be put together and solve all problems immediately and remain a Dragon Rider when he should be buying a therapist a mansion and a yacht with all those billed sessions.
Then there is being told more than once that he's putting Astrid second when he literally isn't. And told he should meet her standard.s
There is all that stuff about how he's been a horrible pet owner to Toothless when he had legitimate and real fears about Toothless not making it out in wild and about the Light Fury turning on him and about him not coming back. (Like... he's a disabled dragon, for Gods' sake??? Toothless will literally NOT make it without human intervention)
He's called out for not embracing change when his name was literally synonymous with change before THW and every bit of change he proposes in the movie is met with backlash unless Astrid, their not-chief, says it's okay.
His mother, who abandoned him for 20 and came home with him after the traumatic loss of his father spends most of the movie not being the mother she promised him to be in the second movie and even advocated for the Riders to be less dependent on dragons when she was with dragons for the entirety of those 20 years.
And then there is all the bullying. Making fun of his voice, telling him- a disabled person- to LOSE THE LIMP, telling him he's not worthy of Astrid the warrior goddess (completely forgetting how Hiccup is both parts warrior and diplomat in at least the previous two movies, let alone the movies and the shows) and these three things are all said by Tuffnut! "Forgets he has a sister in THW" Tuffnut!
And let's not forget Snotlout's "who died and made you chief?!" when Snotlout was literally crying at Stoick's funeral. And then proceeds to hit on the dead man's wife and his best friend's mother while also putting said best friend down!
Like... none of the things said to him in the first movie were as bad as some of the things said in THW.
The entire movie is also basically Hiccup being pulled from one direction to the other.
It's "You're a bad chief because you're not changing anything" yet it's also "how dare you make this change!"
It's "you should step up as chief" yet it's also "we will only listen if Astrid says it's good."
It's "you were literally keeping Toothless captive for 6 years :/" yet it's also "Uuuhhh, time to cut the umbilical cord, don't you think? 🙄"
It's "you let Toothless go free, what did you expect?" yet also "uh, you let him go???"
It's "you are literally nothing without Toothless, sorry :/" yet it's also "Toothless only showed you what was already inside."
It's "you should put Astrid first for once" yet it's also "I, Hiccup, will literally listen to every single word you, Astrid, says even if it's hurtful."
It's "I, Astrid, will suggest to you, Hiccup, that we go find Toothless in the hidden world" yet it's also "I, Astrid, will blame you, Hiccup, for deciding to go to the Hidden World, making the Light Fury, who you have no control over, to follow us back home"
It's "hey man, can you help me with this dragon tail? :(" yet it's also "I will literally not listen to you when I'm about to break this branch that I and the dragon tail are on."
I mean, my God! I'd sent the dragons away if I had to listen to that for the past year after I watched my father die a gruesome death.
And that's not even the worst part. The worst part is Toothless abandoning Hiccup for the most shallow reason there is; chasing dragon tail that doesn't even want anything to do with him unless he does something that impresses her when he's the king of the dragons.
So yeah, probably an unpopular opinion, but besides one bad plan, Hiccup did nothing wrong besides listen to what all the people around him were saying, no matter how much they contradict themselves.
Really, what he needs is a hug. A Real one. :(
#me ranting about thw? it's more likely than you think!#i find myself thinking what the riders in the rtte-era would've thought if they saw the way hiccup was being treated in thw#because of the “where hiccup goes we go” sentiment and because that's when the riders became a family#thw salt#httyd 3 criticism#httyd movies#httyd 3#how to train your dragon 3#httyd: the hidden world#hiccup haddock

Can I ask for romantic HCS for night fury Hiccup ( your au)? With a Darling that's a light fury please, Hiccup finds them in a forest near water like how toothless found the light fury (can the reader be female if possible if not gn is fine with me)
Sure, I can try my hand at this idea :) Not proofread, sorry for mistakes!
Yandere! Night Fury! Hiccup with Light Fury! Darling
Pairing: Romantic
Possible Trigger Warnings: Female Darling, Obsession, Manipulation, Possessive behavior, Courting, Violence, Jealousy, Overprotective behavior, Murder/Death mention, Blood, Mate mentioned, Mentions of children/Mating mentioned but doesn't happen in the fic, Dubious/Forced relationship.
Let's be honest, a hybrid can pair with either a human or another hybrid.
Hiccup may pair better with a hybrid like you due to a familiar anatomy.
Especially if you assume pheromones come into play.
But, yes, I imagine you two would meet like the movie.
You are a Light Fury hybrid that has lived all/most of her life in The Hidden World.
The Hidden World in this AU is a place where regular dragons and hybrids tend to thrive.
This is because the two species have a good connection with one another due to their dragon genes.
You most likely left to explore, only to be hunted by... well... hunters.
You had taken refuge on an island, one you had no idea had other hybrids and dragons.
This is where you meet Hiccup.
As this Hiccup is like regular Hiccup and Toothless, his courting is still goofy and inexperienced.
Although this would be the first time Hiccup saw a female hybrid.
For example, Astrid is in this AU as a Deadly Nadder hybrid.
This is, however, Hiccup's first time seeing a female Light Fury... or any Light Fury at all.
Night Furies are still rare, his father and mother are most likely hybrids (or adoption I guess) so there isn't many.
Which is sort of what makes Hiccup excited about you as he hasn't seen many of the Fury line.
He notices your injuries and offers you a home on Berk, you're hesitant... even hostile at first.
But soon you relent and follow the fellow hybrid somewhere safer.
Your recovery and life in this new place is what grows Hiccup's obsession.
As you recover he makes subtle advances to court you.
Gifts, dances/displays, affectionate gestures, etc.
You most likely don't reciprocate but try to keep him as an ally and a friend.
He doesn't give up though.
Hiccup is overprotective of you due to you being an outsider that's been attacked before.
He naturally also shows possessive behavior due to your similarities in species and his wish to take you as his mate.
Which no doubt means he reacts aggressively to other male hybrids around you.
*cough* Snotlout... *cough*
Hiccup tries to resolve issues in a non-violent way due to being the "Alpha", but he is fully capable of it.
For example, he would kill Dragon Hunters if they tried to hurt you again.
That or he will fight off other hybrids if they showed any interest in you.
He doesn't mind the battle scars or blood...
He's protecting you... he claims you.
Hiccup definitely tries to show interest towards you through every little actions.
He follows you when hunting, he takes flies with you, he us always close by.
You can tell with the affection and respect he gives that he's interested in you as a partner.
Hiccup would try not to force anything despite his animalistic desires.
He would probably bring up children at some point due to you both being in about your 20s... a ripe age for dragon hybrids to mate.
He tries to be subtle but he may also be manipulative with it at times.
You may even take him to visit The Hidden World to see where you grew up.
Other hybrids and dragons are hesitant of him due to being an outsider but grow to trust him.
Hiccup doesn't mind if he settles down on Berk or The Hidden World as long as it's with you.
Truth is he doesn't plan on having you take any other mate.
Night Furies and Light Furies mate for life.
He isn't going to take anyone else but you.
Hiccup's end goal is no doubt to make a family with you.
He plans to take his time courting you... he doesn't care how long it takes.
Your species is compatible so you'd no doubt have Night Light (Night/Light Fury)Hybrids for kids.
Hiccup looks forward to such a thought.
You two would make a wonderful family...
Surely you agree?

"Where's the cooler?" You ask Jisung as you neatly stack the blankets and bags of food into Chan's trunk.
"What cooler?" You cock a brow up and place a hand on your hip.
"You mean to tell me we were going to the park without any water or other drinks?" At this point, Minho and Chan are walking out of the house rolling a cooler and holding another tray of food.
"That's why you can't ask him to do anything." Minho chimes in.
"I remembered! I just.. was gonna do it last so the ice wouldn't melt, you know?" Chan laughs loudly.
"Mm, yeah sure." Chan responds after setting the cooler into the trunk, shutting it close and letting out a content sigh. "Are we ready? Where's Seungmin?"
"Seungmin is here." Seungmin walks out of the house and locks the front door before raising his camera. "Almost forgot this badboy." He runs straight to the passenger side. "Shotgun!" He laughs and slips himself into the seat.
"I'll sit in the middle." You shrug, sliding in so that the two boys can have their space at the end seats. Once everyone is buckled in and ready to go, Chan drives off to a park roughly 30 minutes away. You shut your eyes during the ride, leaning onto Minho's shoulder to offset the slight motion sickness you still experience. Your friends decided it was perfect weather to hang out, get some air and play some games before heading back home in time for dinner. A few of Chan's mutual friends and Seungmin and Jisung's close coworkers were also heading to the park, making it a nice get-together that wouldn't be too chaotic [hopefully].
Chan pulls up to a spot along the curb right in front of the large grassy field, surrounded by large trees that provided sufficient shade. Chan, Seungmin and Jisung's friends were already setting up at the center of the field, running over to greet your group. They all take their turns introducing you before you take your blanket and lay it under one of the trees. Chan sets the food and the cooler next to you, making it easily accessible for the group.
"Do you need anything? Water?" Chan says, digging through the cooler to make sure the ice is still covering the drinks properly.
"Please." You give him a toothless smile as he hands you a cold bottle.
"Medicine?"
"Took it this morning at the house."
"Food?" He points to the insulated bag that holds some gimbap that his mom made.
"Maybe in a bit." You giggle.
"Okay. Holler if you need us, yeah?" He calls out just as he's beginning to run over to his friends. The group starts acting chaotically, even as they work through dividing teams and back-ups. You giggle to yourself when Jisung gets way too carried away, acting incredibly sure of himself that he was going to carry his team to victory. Minho puts himself as backup for now, racing over to you on the blanket as the teams begin their first game of soccer.
"Fuck, finally." He says as he plops down right next to you, already exhausted by the commotion.
"Too much going on, hm?"
"Yeah, and Jisung's all hyped and loud." You laugh and continue to sketch the field in front of you.
"Be nice."
"I am nice. Always." He smirks at you, playfully pinching your side.
"Hey!" You giggle, trying to smack his hand away from another attack. He laughs as he re-focuses on the group's game ahead, cheering for his team in between claps and yelling for them to pick up the pace. When Minho looks over at you, he smiles to himself when he catches how focused you are. You hold the pencil delicately, but your lips are formed into a pout while your brows are tightly knit. He glances at the sketch, watching the way the tip of your pencil glides over the page so flawlessly.
You had always been talented, there was no doubt about that. Before Minho fucked this all up, he used to hang up your paintings and random sketches all around his room. Even kept a napkin sketch of Link Kirby in his wallet just because he liked it so damn much and thought you were the cutest in the world— why on earth were you scribbling Link Kirby during the high school graduation party?
Even now, Minho thinks you're the cutest in the world. He doesn't wanna break the silence, but he can't help himself when he—
"Y/N." You look up from your sketchbook, glancing over to Minho on your left. He gives off a tiny, breathy laugh before smiling toothlessly at you.
"Yes?" He shakes his head. He just likes to look at you because sometimes, it's hard for him to process that this is real. That you're real, that you're here. The light bounces off your skin so flawlessly and suddenly, he's filled with overwhelming emotion—
Maybe he's gotten another chance to love you, to love you right. And if that's so, he'll never take this for granted.
"Nothing." His hand comes up to cup your cheek and you feel his thumb caress the surface. You lean into it for a bit and smile softly at him before quietly returning your attention to the sketch.
Love.
You are what Minho loves the most.
"Yo! Get your ass in there, I'm tapping out." Jisung huffs and puffs with his hands on his hips, approaching you two on the blanket. "You can do all that lovey-dovey stuff later." He tries to shoo Minho away.
"Tapping out? You didn't do anything except fall on your ass the entire time." Jisung mocks him and makes a face before firing back with:
"I was falling on my ass because I was being a good guard."
"Yeah, whatever." Minho says, jogging towards the field.
"I'm just gonna lay here, cielo. Don't mind me." Jisung says, laying back on the blanket and closing his eyes. "If they ask for me, tell them I am off the clock."
"Of course, pachi. Whatever works for you." You chuckle to yourself as you start shading. You're convinced Jisung is fake-napping because he's awfully quiet during the time he's next to you.
Doesn't stop everyone from calling him out and telling him to pick up the slack.
You're alone for the next half, but you get lots done with your sketches despite the yelling and chaos going on on the field. You've drawn the field, the small pond across the street. A lady walking her golden retriever. Minho and Seungmin standing off to the side as they wait. You've eaten one of the sandwiches Seungmin made, giving a piece to Minho when he runs over and steals a bite.
It's good times, good vibes.
You wanted nothing more than to have time for yourself, time to tap back into your creative spark.
Back at the house, Jisung and Minho make way for you to shower first while they get the grill going in the backyard. Seungmin has his own bathroom in his room downstairs, and he offers to switch off with Chan once he's finished. You take a quick shower, throwing on some comfy cotton shorts and a shirt before heading down the steps to the living room and kitchen area. This gives way for Jisung and Minho to shower and switch off before running back down to help in the kitchen. Once things have settled a bit more, they have music going, the boys already a few shots in while sipping on beers. Minho is preparing some side dishes in the kitchen, while Jisung and Seungmin accompany Chan at the grill.
"Hey." You gently tap his side, making him look over his shoulder. "Do you need help?" He chuckles and shakes his head.
"No. They might though." He nods over at the boys outside.
"Do you need me to take anything outside before I go?"
"Mm, maybe just the water?"
"Okay." You smile up at him as you grab the water pitcher near him.
"Thank you." He says, giving you a quick kiss on the head before you turn on your heel and meet your friends outside. You set the water down near the fire pit and outdoor sectional before asking Chan if he needs anything at the grill. He shakes his head and urges you to sit and enjoy the fire pit, the sun slowly setting beneath the horizon.
So, you do.
You watch your friends enjoy themselves to the music, laughing and singing along from where you're at. You feel at ease, you feel alive. Everything is perfect tonight.
Sooner or later, Jisung plops onto the sectional with you, sipping on his beer before kicking his feet up.
"You doing okay?" He asks, leaning his head back against the couch.
"I am. Are you?"
"Kinda drunk already." He burps. "Shit."
"Kinda?" You chuckle.
"Mhm." He nods. "Were you able to draw a lot today?"
"Mm, I drew enough. It was nice."
"Good, cielo. Glad to hear." He taps your leg before letting out a breath, watching as Minho brings the side dishes out and joins Chan at the grill. Every now and then, he glances over at you two, giving you a tiny, toothless smile before returning his attention back to Chan.
"Pachi?"
"Yes?"
"Did Minho and I really go through a lot?" You prop your leg up on the sectional and place your elbow on the edge, cheek resting on the palm of your hand. He looks at you for a moment before shrugging.
"Yeah, as with anybody else. Probably the best way to explain it." He doesn't really dive into it much, and his answers are obviously vague. You're not sure if he's just letting Minho take the reigns on this, or if he says it that way because the history truly isn't that bad. Jisung looks at you with a tiny pout before following up with— "But, things are better now. Right? You two have gotten cozy." You chuckle and kick his leg.
"Don't say it like that."
"It's true, though. You two have always had love for each other." He grabs his glass and swirls his beer around for a second. "You're happy?"
"Of course I am."
"No, but. I mean with Minho." He finally looks at you with doe-eyes, partially filled with relief, the other.. [perhaps] worry?
"Oh, yeah." You shrug. "I don't have a reason to not be." Jisung looks back down at his glass before saying anything, and you're not sure what it means.
"Mm, that's good to hear." He meets your eyes with a faint smile at the corner of his lips. "All I want is for you to be happy." And Jisung says it sincerely; he means this with all his heart, even if he might've gotten too protective and tried to shield you from parts of the past. He sees you happy and comfortable with Minho, and vice versa. Even though he was mad at Minho for trying again, he was also Jisung's bestfriend and he knew he was trying. It's all he wanted after the disconnect in the beginning. He's come to understand that maybe, you'll just always have that pull to him, and there was no way Jisung would stop that. He is just afraid, and he hopes Minho has truly learned from his mistakes.
He traces the top of his glass with his finger while he listens to you playfully bicker with Seungmin now. His thoughts are bombarding him while he's drunk and he kinda hates it.
Jisung just wants you happy.
But, raw, true, genuine happiness.
That's where he messed up as your bestfriend. Because you may be happy, but he knows they've shaped it this way— they've shaped it this way so you know nothing but happiness, though there are so many things that could shift it all.
He molded your happiness. You didn't get a chance to shape that yourself, and this— this is where he feels awful.
"Food's ready." Minho calls out, making you, Jisung and Seungmin grab plates before walking towards the food. Chan gives you a good serving on your plate with a bit of everything, laughing when he sees you do a little happy dance back in your seat.
The rest of the evening is pleasant, with the boys continuing to drink after eating, moving the party inside to sing their hearts out on karaoke. Minho sits next to you the entire night, occasionally throwing his arm around you, playfully holding your hand and making sure you are comfortable. You sing along with Seungmin and Jisung from time to time, giving all the high notes to the boys to hit.
You were having a good time, and it was fun to be with your friends under one roof again.
When it hits close to midnight, you gather the trash and start to clean up around the house when you notice the liveliness dying down. Seungmin is still singing softly through the mic, while Jisung and Chan are dozing off after getting incredibly drunk.
"You didn't have to do that." Minho drags himself into the kitchen, watching you wash the last of the dishes with a huge trash bag next to you.
"It's okay. It wasn't much anyway." You chuckle as you set aside the last dish on the drying rack and shake off your hands. "Could you do me a small, teensy weensy favor?" He crosses his arms and leans against the counter.
"Depends. What's in it for me?" You laugh and playfully push him.
"Please take out the trash."
"Hm, but you don't think I'm serious, huh?" He playfully smirks. "What's in it for me?" He steps closer and challenges you.
"Minho." You whine. "Please?" He puckers his lips. He's feeling a little bold tonight because of the alcohol, but he also can't say that he hasn't been yearning to do this— sober or not. And he doesn't let up. But, you find it cute how he's being persistent.
One kiss wouldn't hurt, no?
So, you tiptoe and give the guy his little kiss. He immediately blushes, ears turning red in color before he clears his throat and grabs for the trash bag.
"Will that do it?"
"Maybe. But, since you're so cute, I'll take this out anyway." You roll your eyes just as he walks out to the back and heads for the garbage bin. Seungmin is starting to simmer on the mic once Minho comes back in and washes his hands. He turns off the machine and heads to his room, giving you a big bear hug and bidding his goodnights. He says he can't wait to sleep and he hopes you'll be able to sleep well in Jisung's bed since he's knocked out on the couch.
"Do you need anything before you go to bed?"
"No. I'm just going to wash up and change. I'll probably fall asleep as soon as I get to Jisung's bed." You tell Minho. He nods, giving you a quick hug and another kiss on the head before sending you off with a 'goodnight.' You quickly wash up and get ready for bed, changing into a crewneck and matching sweats to sleep in. Stepping out into the hallway, you see Minho's door cracked open with his tv illuminating parts of his room. You let out a breath before officially parting ways— walking into Jisung's room that is clean and tidy [for once]. You open his window a bit before drawing the covers back, slipping into his bed and sending your uncle a goodnight message.
Too bad you aren't sleepy as expected. Your body feels exhausted, but your mind is awake. You toss and turn a few times, grabbing at your phone to watch a few random vlogs to try and make yourself sleepy.
But, an hour passes— close to two— and you're still not sleepy. Though, you do find yourself needing to use the bathroom again.
The house is quiet.
Somewhat.
Jisung and Chan are still passed out in the living room, with snores bouncing off the walls and echoing throughout their entire house; Seungmin is sleeping soundly in his room, probably letting his music continue to lull him into a deep sleep.
As you quietly pad down the hallway and into the bathroom, you notice Minho's door still slightly ajar— lights from his TV reflecting off of the floor. You quickly relieve yourself in the bathroom and freshen up a bit, debating on whether or not you should bother Minho at this time of night.
What else do you have to lose? Sleep wasn't finding you, and apparently, it wasn't finding Minho either.
You give three soft knocks on his door before Minho lets out a small 'yeah?' on the other side— giving you the green light to poke your head through the crack and ask:
"Playing a game and watching tv?" You giggle as you glance between his computer screen and TV.
"I was, in between." He chuckles as you awkwardly stand off to the side and softly shut his door. "What're you doing awake?"
"I'm sorry, I couldn't sleep and I saw the TV lights as I was going through the bathroom. I could go if you're gonna sleep?"
"No, it's okay." He pats his bed. "Sit and get comfortable. I just wasn't expecting you to be on the other side of the door, but I'm very glad it is you and not them bothering me." You chuckle.
"If you say so." You sit criss-crossed on his bed, letting your crewneck sleeves slip over your hands. Minho has Into the Spiderverse playing on his TV, his computer already shutting down and going into sleep mode. "Did you put this on?" You point at the screen.
"Mhm, it's the one movie series I don't mind re-watching."
"Nice." You focus on the movie for a bit, trying to pick up the pieces as to where the story was headed.
"Did you have fun today?" You glance at Minho before returning your attention to the tv.
"Yeah, I did. It was nice to draw and relax outside. Did you? It seemed like you guys had a blast playing."
"Mhm, sure did." Minho plops onto his bed and rests against his headboard, his arm lazily settling behind you with his hand on the bed. "I can change it, if you want?"
"No, you can keep it on." You give him a tiny smile before wiggling a little closer into his arm. "Minho?"
"Hm?" He hums when you turn back to look at him. You adjust your position on the bed, and Minho is able to rest his hand comfortably on the small of your back with the way you're angled.
"Did you need to tell me something earlier? At the park?"
"Mm." He squints his eyes and furrows his brows. He knows the answer is 'yes,' but his instant response happens to be— "No. I just.. like looking at you." Your eyes soften at his sudden [and unexpected] response. "Helps me remember you're real." You look at him, stare at him, for a good while, trying to read his body language and expression.
He is unreadable.
But, the one thing you do know is that you feel something for Minho. Almost like love, something that runs deeper.
"What do you feel when you look at me?" You ask softly, hand grabbing at his arm so that you can trace the faint lines on his palm.
"What do I feel when I look at you?" Minho repeats before swallowing the lump in his throat because he knows he should probably be honest— but he's conflicted on how deep he's willing to go.
Because he feels a lot when he sees you. He just doesn't wanna scare you or overwhelm you.
"Mhm." You look at him and he nods.
"Alot— I," He pauses, trying to figure out how he should put this. He didn't think he'd have to touch up on this now, but it's here and he's struggling. Moreso afraid than anything. He feels a whirlwind of emotions, but he'll focus on the positive because they outweigh everything else. How does he explain that he has always loved you, and doesn't think that has ever changed? Despite his period of stupidity, his lack of self-awareness. "I feel.. warmth? I feel attached. Adoration. Appreciation." He pauses again before looking you in the eyes. "Love."
"Love?" You face him a little more. "You feel love when you see me?"
"I do." He licks his lips before sitting up to feel closer to you. "It's always been that way." Your eyes widen a bit, but he can tell you're starting to shy away from all the things he's been saying. He means it though, he really does. You watch as he raises his hand to gently brush the hair out of your face and tuck it back behind an ear. His hand falls to your cheek, thumb caressing the surface before he lets out a small sigh. "You taught me all about it."
"I did?" You respond close to a whisper, now watching Minho's eyes drift from yours, down to your nose— to your lips. No other question comes to mind, being that you're drawn into this sudden force of attraction that's pulling you two closer, and closer, together.
And Minho knows; god, he fucking knows this is terrible. But, he's so caught up in this moment, in you. There is the devil on his shoulder, the majority of him that is screaming to keep going. Because he wants to love you so badly, to take this chance and do you right this time around. No distractions, nothing to stop him. He loves you, he has always loved you— despite his stupidity.
Then, there is the angel on the other; a small part of him that is screaming to stop what he's feeling so that he can just be honest and be upfront about the past, give you what you deserve to work off of even though he wants to start 'fresh.'
You're like a planet, all definitions astronomical. You deserve the world, and then some.
"You did." He says lowly. "Always." He pauses, lips inches away from yours.
"I hope that never changes." Though, you are his bestfriend before anything, before whatever the past holds, before whatever this history has written you two to be; Minho was also like love to you, and you didn't think there was any other word to describe it.
"I could never look at you differently, Y/N. No matter what." You cup his cheeks and make him meet your eyes once again. It falls silent for a moment, a comfortable silence.
You should've seen it coming.
You can't really remember how quick it happened, or who made the move first, but you do remember feeling fireworks.
Butterflies.
A bolt of electricity down your body—
Minho's lips are on yours. For a second, you inch back in surprise. You can see Minho starting to regret his decision and you don't want him to get to that point.
Because you don't regret that, and you probably won't regret what happens next.
You chase after his lips for another sweet kiss that he gladly takes. He lingers there for awhile before adjusting, allowing him to have more room to kiss you like he's been meaning to, like he's been yearning just as long as you have.
It feels so brand new, yet so familiar at the same time.
So natural.
He tries not to break the kisses for too long, even as he gently lays you back against his pillows and adjusts the covers— hovering over you and keeping his body close to yours. He continues because he feels your need behind your lips, the way you hungrily chase after him to close any distance. Almost like you can't be away for a second, like you'd lose him at the tip of your fingers.
Just like he's felt with you.
You do briefly pull away for a breather, your lips swollen and so majestic to look at while Minho continues to eye the rest of your features. He plants a kiss on your scars before taking his lips down to your neck, gently sucking at the surface before soothing it with his lips again. The need, want, for him continues to build when you feel him against you— every movement tickling your core and making you crave for his touch, for him.
"Y/N." He calls for you in between kisses, moving near your ear as his fingers fiddle with the waistband of your sweats. "Is this okay? Just tell me if you want me to stop and I'll stop."
"Keep going." He meets your gaze as you give him a shy, reassuring nod. He gives you another peck on the lips, hand now tugging your sweats down— tossed off to the side of the bed. At this point, you expect yourself to be nervous. You should feel nervous. But, you don't. Not an ounce of it. And it's probably because of the way Minho delicately touches you, kisses you, holds you.
You let out a small gasp against him when you feel his thumb pressed against your sensitive, clothed nub. He works in slow, circular motions, adding onto the pressure bubbling in your core. Satisfied with your reaction to his touch, he gives your thigh a squeeze before tugging your panties down. Minho's buried at the crook of your neck with your hands tangled at the ends of his hair, fingers now working their way into you at a slow, steady space.
"Minho. Need you." He hears before you let out a tiny whimper, body aching to feel more of him. He presses a kiss to your neck before adjusting to grab a condom at his nightstand. He's made sure he's tested and clean [mainly for his own sake], but tonight this feels different— he feels the need to take care of you, to be gentle, to be delicate.
To love on you properly.
This is where the universe has brought you two; this moment in time.
He fiddles with the condom for a bit before he's back to looking at you with the most adoration in his eyes. Soft, but so many feelings screaming to be let out.
"Are you sure about this?" He asks, and you simply reply with a nod. He lets out a shaky breath, lips grazing against yours just as you feel him slowly enter. There's a slight burn at the contact but nothing unbearable, nothing that settles for too long, until he bottoms out and tries to get used to the feeling. His eyes are locked onto yours as he adjusts to find a steady rhythm, listening to your soft moans and whines just as he's slightly picking up the pace.
You look so beautiful underneath him.
So right, so perfect.
"You're so pretty. So perfect for me." You hear him mutter against your ear, hands tugging at his hair as you find the courage to move with him and match his movements. He's wrapped up into you just as you with him, so wrapped up that he continues to praise you with sweet nothings; peppering your lips, face, neck with feathery kisses the hold so much behind them. His thumb finds his way back down to your clit, massaging tenderly until he feels you wiggling in his grasp. You feel the heat rising to your cheeks when you feel how quick you'll reach your high, but everything about this feels too good; feels too right.
"Minho— I'm gonna—" You pant out, chest heaving up and down as he's thrusting deeply and hitting all the right spots. You can't even form the rest of your sentence before you feel the immense wave of pleasure crashing over you. Minho watches your response, slipping out of his grasp when he feels your walls squeezing every bit of him. He gives it a good two, three more thrusts before he's unraveling; buried at the crook of your neck as he lets himself go into the condom.
"Are you okay?" He asks and meets your eyes once he's gathered himself. "I didn't hurt you, did I?"
"No, I'm okay." You reassure him, and he pecks you on the lips. He disposes of the condom and grabs a few tissues to help clean you up and get you comfortable in his bed. He lays beside you after shutting the tv and lights, arm draped across the pillow as you lay on it and press your back against him.
It falls into a quiet, comfortable silence again— one where you can listen to each other breathe, one where you can just feel and be in peace together.
Soothing.
"Hey." He says behind you, kissing the back of your head. You turn to face him, eyes slowly feeling heavy. "Are you comfortable?"
"Of course." You sleepily giggle. "I might fall asleep soon."
"Sleep."
"Goodnight?" He chuckles.
"Goodnight, princess." You snuggle against him some more and shut your eyes. It doesn't take long before Minho can tell that you've fallen asleep with the way your lips are slightly parted, breathing now at a soft, resting pace. Minho feels comfortable, feels safe.
Minho feels like love.
He doesn't fall asleep right away. Instead, he watches you sleep in his arms, kissing your forehead once more. He's trying to relish in the moment, but he's also wondering if this was the right way to go. Maybe he got wrapped up too into this and he should've waited.
Things happened so fast.
He needed to tell you.
You two have so much to talk about.
What does matter in this moment, is that he has always loved you and that has never changed. Despite his moment of stupidity, his lack of self-awareness.
Love.
"I love you." He whispers down to you before he finally feels like he can shut his eyes and try to get some sleep.
You, like a planet, all definitions astronomical; heavenly.
You, are love.

What if the Berserkers went to Berk before the beginning of HTTYD 1 and everything was almost the same, except that Dagur was the one discovering Hiccup's secret (that he became a dragon's friend and trained him) instead of Astrid?
At first Dagur is jealous (because Hiccup could hit a Night Fury with one of the viking's weapons, something no one did before) and angry (because what kind of viking Hiccup is if he helps a dragon?). Dagur is less willing to give the dragons a second chance than Astrid was, and although he doesn't tell Berk the truth about Hiccup, he still tells the Berserker Tribe they have to control/kill a Night Fury (he didn't tell Berk because yk, he wanted to control/kill Toothless himself).
(Hiccup still finds the truth about dragons being controlled btw, and obviously Dagur doesn't succeed in controlling/killing Toothless)
Stoick eventually finds out the truth about Toothless and Hiccup, and for "safety" reasons one of the Berserkers tells Dagur to stay in Berk with Hiccup, Astrid, Snotlout, Tuffnut and Ruffnut. It's hard to convince him at first (because it's Dagur and he doesn't follow orders from other people) but there's something in the way they say it that makes him agree (as if they knew something Dagur didn't).
At some moment, when Dagur sees Hiccup is not with them, he starts looking around, thinking he went with the tribe without them noticing, but later he finds him in his house, looking at the horizon with sadness and pain. At first Dagur wanted to make fun of him, but the way he says "Congratulations, you're here. You won't have to see your tribe dying. And you were right about me. I'm truly the worst viking" makes his heart hurt. And against his own will, he can't avoid helping Hiccup. He never saw him destroyed inside and he knows he wouldn't recover if he lost his best friend and his father the same day.
Then, all of them (Hiccup, Dagur, Astrid, Snotlout, Tuffnut, Ruffnut and Fishlegs) go to Dragon's Den. The fight follows the canon, except that Dagur is more involved in the fight than any other dragon rider. And when he sees how Toothless saved Hiccup's life, he finally believes Hiccup. He believes dragons are capable of being good.
After making a truce with the dragons, Berserkers and Berkians become allies, and Dagur (as well as Astrid, Snotlout, Tuffnut, Ruffnut and Fishlegs) gets his own dragon. He helps the other riders to defend Berk, redeeming himself, and although his behavior at first isn't very different than before (except when he's with Hiccup, because he is "kind" with him), eventually he softens.
(And later the fic would continue the same timeline as Dragons: Riders/Defenders of Berk and Race To The Edge, but with Tuffcup and Heathstrid instead of Hiccstrid. Viggo also would live in this AU because I refuse to accept his death. Oh, and Dagur is single because in this AU he's more interested in defending Hiccup and Berk than having a love interest)

Kill You To Try- Jake Kiszka
Summary: Will you and Jake ever be able to see eye to eye? Being pining idiots and hating each others guts don’t mix. Let’s find out the hard way then.
Genre: Childhood best friends- enemies- lovers. Fluff, Angst, Hurt/Comfort.
Word Count: 4.2k
Warnings: Jake is an asshole. Jealousy and Drinking.
A/N: This is my second favorite thing i’ve ever written. I apologize for my lack of Jake fics, considering I stay in Jake lane 24/7. I’ve been working on this for a couple of weeks and it’s not perfect by any means. I love to hear feedback so please let me know or if you want a part two to this also!! Thank you for all your patience and support<3333
_______________________________________________
Jake has never been jealous of Josh’s relationship with you, well that was until he saw the two of you dancing. Something about the way Josh’s hands caressed the small of your back, made his chest ache in resentment.
That’s where his dislike for you starts. Well, maybe not dislike but irritation at least.
Jake has known you since the 5th grade. You used to run around the playground, picking flowers for each and every one of your classmates. Jake had fallen and scratched up his knee, sniffles sounding out. Feeling a gentle tap on his shoulder, he turns around to find you smiling down at him.
“Are you okay?” you peer down at him.
“My knee hurts.”
Handing him the prettiest flower out of your bouquet, “Here this should make you feel better.” Jake admires your toothless grin from below, already feeling much better. It didn’t take much longer after that for him to decide to keep you around.
Jake and Josh were a package deal so being best friends with Josh was inevitable. Growing up, you always found that Josh matched your energy to-a-tee. He was your best friend, the one that always knew how to make you laugh. But, Jake was different. Jake felt like your home, your safe place.
That was until he started acting like an asshole out of nowhere. One day you were fine, the next day you weren’t.
It hurt like hell. There’s truly no way to describe losing your better half, other than heartbreak. Maybe it wouldn’t have hurt so bad, if you weren’t utterly in love with him.
As the years go by, Jake continues his relentless cycle of torture. The snide comments or blatant disrespect, never compared to the pain of him ignoring you. Josh was dumbfounded at Jake’s behavior toward you. He could have sworn Jake was in love with you, but it’s not the first time Jake has surprised him. Josh was tired of constantly calling Jake out on his shit. He understood if Jake just didn’t get along with you anymore, but the disrespect was uncalled for.
Over time, you got used to Jake’s nasty behavior and decided to not let it bother you. If he was going to act like a child then so be it, you would be the mature one.
The boy’s music career had shot up since high school, which meant less time spent together and more time touring the world. Saying your goodbyes was hard, but was inevitable. In the meantime, your life would live on in Michigan, while theirs roamed the world.
Life caught up with all of you, which meant less phone calls and no time for visits. Josh kept his promise when he said he would call once a week. He loved giving you every detail of tour since you couldn’t be there. You had been with them since before they even decided to be a band, so not having you around was weird for all of them, even Jake.
After being away for a year, the tour has finally come to an end. Sam being Sam decides to throw a coming home party, mourning the end of tour but celebrating their return.
Being Josh’s right-hand man comes with its perks, so when you get the invitation to their “exclusive” party, you can’t turn the opportunity down.
Would it be weird to say that you hit a second puberty over the past year? Probably, yes. But, you were being truthful. All those years begging and pleading your body to catch up with your maturing mind, payed off it seems. You finally felt good in your own shoes. So, when the hot guy from the local coffee shop asks for your number, who are you to say no.
Having had plans for a date the night of the party, you suggest that the two of you attend a good friend’s party. Surprisingly, he agrees to go with you, let’s just hope he’s used to crazy.
____
“Josh will you please shut the fuck up? I don’t want to hear her name again, please,” Jake groans out.
Whipping his head in Jake’s direction Josh says, “She’s my best friend. I’m allowed to be excited to see her Jake.”
Jake gives his best effort to not roll his eyes, but fails.
“It’s not like you have to talk to her. I’m sure she isn’t thrilled to see you either, after how shitty you’ve been,” Josh mumbles, leaving the room.
Huffing like a child, Jake does his best to calm his nerves. He is not prepared whatsoever to see you after all this time.
____
Jake already knew it would be hard to see you, but seeing you with some guy makes his façade shatter completely. Pre-gaming seems to have been a bust, because he has never felt soberer in his life.
“Sunshine!” Josh’s bright smile distracts you from scanning the crowd any longer, silently searching for his other half.
After Josh has gotten his fill of hugs and kisses from you, he makes quick work of introducing himself to your date.
Josh’s love for first impressions allows you to quickly excuse yourself, wanting to find a drink strong enough to get through the night.
Scanning the crowd, you see him. Sitting in a secluded corner of the room, slowly sipping on his drink.
Realizing his eyes had been on you since stepping in the doorway, you allow yourself one quick glance in his direction. Not wanting to give him the satisfaction of actively looking for him, you walk the opposite direction, silently hoping he’ll follow you.
Is Jake an asshole to you? Yes.
Does he deserve even a second of your time? Hell no.
But, there’s still a part of you that longs for the Jake you once knew so well. It’s foolish to believe that after all this time he has changed, but you can’t help but wish for it.
Fixing a drink, you smile at people in passing or attempt to make small talk.
Feeling him before you see him, his presence looms over you like no other.
Jake sits onto the countertop next to you, plucking the cherry out of your drink. Grinning wickedly at you, he sucks the cherry into his mouth.
If you hadn’t been so focused on his cherry stained lips, you would have slapped the audacity right out of him.
“See something you like, sunshine?”
“Fuck off Jake,” you glare up at him.
“Don’t be like that, where’s my welcome home hug?” he pouts.
“Assholes don’t get welcome home hugs. They get a foot up their ass instead. Would you like me to demonstrate?”
He chuckles.
Jumping off the counter, he says, “It’s good to see you to, Sunshine.”
Watching him saunter off to his dark corner, you exhale, trying to regain your footing. Jake has always had a way of making your head feel all fuzzy, no matter what bullshit he was spewing.
____
Sam had made the executive decision to start a bonfire later into the night.
The party had dwindled down to very few people at this point.
Your date had decided to head home early because he had work the following morning. The both of you had agreed to see each other again soon. He seemed extremely nice, but you had a feeling it wouldn’t work out due to your complicated past resurfacing.
But, you were in desperate need of a distraction sadly.
Which left you snuggled under Josh’s arm, sharing childhood stories around the fire. Very clique, but it happened every time you all got together and had a few drinks.
Jake’s eyes haven’t left your figure since you walked in the door. The moment in the kitchen with you replaying in his mind over and over again. He could have sworn you looked at him, like he’s always looked at you.
Hanging on to every word that comes out of your mouth, Jake yearns for your affection.
Over the years, Jake has had love interests that weaved in and out of his life. He’d never been in love with any of them, but unconsciously found parts of you in them.
Deflecting his feelings for you by pretending to dislike you is better than being rejected by the one person he loves most, at least that’s what he tells himself.
He longs to hold you close like Josh.
Was his fear of rejection worth losing his best friend?
____
Weeks have passed since the night of the party. Danny had graciously taken you home that night, promising to have a lunch date soon.
Remember the guy you brought with you to said party, you know, the one you agreed to see again?
Well, the time has come to meet up again. The both of you agree to get drinks at a local bar in town. Your excited to go out actually. He’s a cute guy who seems to have a genuine interest in you. Plus, he could be the solution to your irritating Jake problem. It’s been a while since you’ve gotten all dolled up anyway, so this is a great excuse.
Finally feeling satisfied with how you look, you head out the door. Don’t get it twisted, you’re not dressing for him. Putting on a pretty outfit and delicate makeup is all for you, mostly because it’s fun.
High school is rough for everyone. Puberty, delayed growth spurts, acne, braces, and social standards never complimented each other. Having struggled with each and every aspect of an awkward stage during high school.
Feeling beautiful is hard when everyone around is trying to be anyone but themselves. So, you could say high school was rough for you.
You never thought of yourself as beautiful or magnificent. Mostly putting yourself into the dull category, because there was truly nothing special about you.
But, Jake always had a way of proving you wrong.
Jake watched you grow from a gentle and kind young lady, into a breath-taking woman.
Having always thought you were beautiful in every stage of life, Jake truly wouldn’t know where to start.
_____
The bar was lit up with string lights, softly playing music.
Lucky for you, the bar was just a block over from your house, so you were able to walk over. Hoping that your date went well enough for you to hitch a ride home with him.
You arrived on time, perching yourself atop the nearest bar stool. He had messaged you saying he was running behind, but he shouldn’t be too long. So, you had decided to wait at the bar for him.
____
Hours have passed and your still sat atop a barstool, downing your sixth drink of the night. You came to the conclusion about two hours ago, that he was indeed not coming after all.
“Ma’am, do you have a ride home? We’re closing up shop here, so you’re going to have to leave soon,” the older bartender asks you.
“Yeah, yeah sorry. Let me call a friend of mine really quick,” you fumble around, looking for your phone.
Securing your phone in your hand, you go to call Josh. He wouldn’t mind coming to get you.
“Hello?”
“Hey Josh, I know its late but I need a ride home. I’m at the bar down the street, but I’ve had too much to drink to walk home in the dark. Can you please come get me?” anxiously fidgeting in your seat.
“I’ll be there in five. Stay right there,” he hangs up abruptly.
He did not sound happy whatsoever. Making Josh mad was not on your to do list today.
It’s just kind of weird. Josh never minds picking you up, he actually insists its him you call. He’s probably having a rough day, don’t over think it.
It hadn’t even been five minutes when you heard your name being called behind you.
Except that voice was definitely not Josh’s.
Out of all people you could have accidentally called, it had to be him. Your night couldn’t get any worse.
Spinning around on your chair, you sigh, waiting for him to provoke you.
He looks at you worriedly, almost like you would shatter any second now.
You scoff, rolling your eyes.
“What? What did I do now?” Jake questions, conscious of your every move.
“Don’t look at me like that.”
“Like what?”
You glare at him.
“Like I’m some fucking lost puppy.”
“Don’t give me a reason to,” he bites back.
Running your hands across your face, you realize just how tired you were. “Jake, I can’t do this with you right now. I’ve had a shitty day. Can you please just take me home?”
He reluctantly nods, heading out the door with you in tow.
The two of you climb into his car and begin your silent ride home.
Jake’s never seen you like this. He’s used to you being angry especially at him. Granite, he does love to get you riled up.
But, his favorite is when your happy. When you smile so big, that it throws him back to the day he met you, with your big toothless grin shining down on him.
His sunshine now turning into rain.
So, he respects the silence for once in his life, letting you have your moment. Watching the tears gather in your eyes, brings along a feeling he’s not familiar with.
Rage.
Gripping the steering wheel, he feels steam run off of him, allowing his knuckles to turn white.
It’s one thing for him to tease and mock you, but another for some asshole to think he can and get away with it.
Jake wants now more than anything to be Josh for you. To make you smile and laugh. He can’t bare to see you like this any longer.
“Do you want to play some music? I’ll even let you choose,” he speaks softly, almost like he doesn’t want to run you off.
You peer up at him in confusion. Where the hell did Jake go?
Shifting anxiously under your gaze, Jake mumbles a quick never mind.
It’s been years since the two of you have had a civil conversation, so this feels unnatural.
“Do you remember when Sam had a crush on you?” doing his best to break the ice.
You snort.
His heart flutters seeing you laugh at something he said for once.
“Do I? The kid followed me around for weeks asking me all kinds of weird questions. It took you telling him that I had cooties because of you to back off,” you laugh out.
Sam was never a smooth talker, that’s for sure.
Jake laughs.
You watch in awe, begging for him to never stop laughing again.
Eventually, Jake pulls into your driveway. The two of you sit in silence for a moment, just wanting to bask in the normalcy for once.
You pull the door open, stepping out of the car. Turning around, you give him a tight-lipped smile.
“Thanks Jake, for everything,” looking anywhere but at him.
“No need to thank me, I’d do it again. If you really wanted to thank me, you could tell me where that guy lives so I can kick his ass,” he smiles up at you, only slightly kidding.
Laughing you wave goodbye, praying that he doesn’t see how flustered you were.
Once you’ve made it inside, Jake sits in the driveway, contemplating everything that happened tonight.
On the way home, Jake realizes he regrets not apologizing for everything he’s said that he truly didn’t mean.
____
Days pass and Jake hasn’t heard a peep from or about you. Josh claims that your trying to heal from getting your heartbroken, but Jake has a feeling something else is wrong.
He is terrified that he may have done something to hurt or upset you once again. He is sick and tired of being the one that hurts you.
So, Jake makes the impulsive decision to go see you. Josh protests saying “Jake is the last person you would want to see right now”. In authentic Jake fashion, he doesn’t give a flying fuck.
____
The drive to your house was torture. Jake didn’t know what the right thing to say would be or what he should do.
Thinking back to simpler times, he remembers the time he saw you the summer of 9th grade.
____
That summer was a weird one for all of you.
Jake and Josh finally went through a growth spurt and started filling into their teenage bodies.
They hadn’t seen you all summer because your family sent you to summer camp.
Jake had come home one day, looking for Josh. He heard Josh’s voice float down the hallway from the garage. Making his way in that direction, he heard a second voice. Recognizing that sweet voice anywhere, Jake strides down the hall in search of you.
Once in the garage, he froze in his tracks. It was definitely you, but different. Jake remembers your straggly hair and your scraped knees. He remembers a little girl, his best friend.
You were no longer a little girl, you were a young woman.
You had bloomed into a stunning flower. Jake felt breathless.
But, after all you were still you. Jake was still Jake.
Best friends forever, but maybe it had always been more than that.
____
Jake and Josh hauled you everywhere. Every show they played you were there.
Believing in their success was never difficult for you. The moment you heard them play together, you knew everything would change.
When the boys played their first big show, you had tagged along not wanting to miss a second of it. Their set had finally come to an end that night. Trotting off the stage, Jake immediately went looking for you. He’d kept an eye on you throughout the show, always feeling better with you close by.
Feeling a hand grip his wrist, he spins around in search of the culprit.
Wrapping him into a bear hug, you squeeze him tight.
Pulling away from you he notices tears in your eyes.
“What’s wrong? Was the show that bad?”
You slap at his chest.
“No, you idiot. These are happy tears. I’m just so proud of you guys. Thank you for letting me be here,” you smile up at him.
“Thank you for wanting to be here. I couldn’t have done it without you,” he remarks.
Arriving at your house, he stumbles up to your porch and forces himself to knock on your door. After what seems to be the longest two minutes of his life, you answer the door.
You clearly just woke up from a nap, your hair a wild mess. Of course, Jake thinks its adorable.
Obviously, your taken aback as to why Jake would be standing on your front porch. You begin to question him, but he stops you.
“Can I come in? We need to talk,” he says, barely looking you in the eye.
“Yeah sure, sure,” you say, stepping aside.
Looking around, Jake realizes he’s never been inside your house before. Your windows are wide open, welcoming the sunlight in. Music playing softly from your record player. Books littered all over the room. It feels like home, yet so unfamiliar.
Clearing your throat, you see him jump, clearly on edge.
Once the two of you have gotten comfortable on your sofa, you realize she how quiet it is. Giving him a small smile, in hopes to provide some sort of comfort due to his jitteriness. He melts at the sight of your kind gesture.
“Are you feeling better” he asks.
Chuckling nervously, you reply, “Way better than the last time you saw me. Thank you for that by the way. I meant to text you afterwards, but I was just too tired.”
“You don’t have to thank me, I wanted to.”
You stare at him blankly.
“You wanted to save me from one of the most embarrassing nights of my life?”
“No no no, I didn’t mean it like that, I just like helping you or being the one you call.”
Giving him an exasperated sigh, you sink deeper into your chair.
“Jake, why are you here?”
He sighs, remembering the real reason he came after all. “I don’t even know where to start. I just wanted to apologize, for everything. You never deserved how I treated you. You’ve always been such an enigma to me. I couldn’t ever figure out why you were so kind to me, even after I pushed you away.”
“Then why did you push me away Jake? When all I’ve ever wanted was to be close to you.”
“I felt like I had to. You and Josh had gotten so close. I was selfish and got jealous. I’ve had to share everything with Josh my whole life. The one thing I never ever wanted to share was you. At the time, I felt like you had finally made your decision and it was Josh that you chose. It hurt too much to see the both of you together, so I made myself distance from you. A few years after I came to my senses and realized I was being selfish making you choose between the both of us, I wanted to make things right. I bought flowers and wrote out my whole apology speech, just to get to your front door and cower away. I felt like there would be no way you would forgive with such a lame ass excuse at that point. I had already dug deep enough. So, I made myself learn how to hate you, even though that’s the farthest thing from the truth. I--- I’m just so sorry Y/n. I never want to hurt you again. Being the one you called that night at the bar made me realize just how much I missed you. I miss talking to you, laughing with you, and sitting with you. I miss everything. I want to make it right, no matter what it takes. You deserve it, you always have.”
Hiding his face within his hands, in order to keep some composure, he hears a sniffle. Quickly looking up, Jake comes face to face with your tearful smile.
Tears poor down your face, while grinning ear to ear.
Reaching over, Jake gently wipes your tears away. You reach up and cup his shaky hands, holding them against your face.
“You’re such a dumbass.”
The both of you die out with chocked up laughter.
“You should have just told me Jake. I’ve always loved you both and I always will. But, my love for you is different, it always has been. You’re my best friend. Josh is my brother, the one that shields me. I had a sneaking suspicion that may have been what triggered your behavior, but I was too pissed to talk about it with you. Your right, I didn’t deserve the treatment you gave me, but I saw right through that bullshit. You forget that I watched you grow up. You’ve always been my sweetheart, the friend that would go above and beyond for you. I never truly believed you hated me, I just wanted to give you time to figure yourself out, no matter how long it took. I forgive you Jake. I think I forgave you a long time ago, but was always too prideful to admit it to myself.”
Grinning at each other, Jake pulls you into a tight hug. Being this close to one another after years of pining, felt like a dream.
Finally, you pull away realizing just how close the two of you were. Feeling Jake’s breath gently against your skin, you glance down at his lips. Jake’s breathing all together stops.
Quickly, your mind comes to its senses and the both of you awkwardly pull away.
Scratching the back of his neck, Jake says, “I guess I should head back to the studio now. Josh is going to kill me if I’m late again.”
“Oh yeah, of course. I know how cranky he can get,” you laugh off. Leading him out your front door, you turn to walk back inside.
“Y/n,” Jake calls out.
“Yeah?”
“Thank you.”
You smile so wide, your bottom lip shakes.
Waving him off, you head back inside. Laying against the door, your head feels fuzzy from just his smile.
____
Five minutes later, Jake finds himself pulling right back into your driveway. He marches right out of his car, straight up to your porch once again. In a tizzy, he begins banging on your door.
Rushing to see what the ruckus is about, you swing open your door.
“Miss me already?” you chuckle out.
“Marry me.”
“What?”
“What?”
The both of you stand there looking at each other, daring the other to speak up.
“I’m sorry that’s not what I meant to say, I was trying to tell you-
You tug him by his collar, kissing him softly.
Eventually, the two of you pull away trying to catch your breath. Resting his head against yours, you both smile.
“I’ve been wanting to do that for a long time,” you whisper out.
Jake chuckles in disbelieve. “No way, I’ve been dreaming of that since 7th grade.”
He takes your hand in his, squeezing so tight in hopes to convey his love for you. Immediately understanding, you bring your hand up to gently stroke his hair.
“Well, we could keep standing out here looking at one another, or we can go inside and kiss some more,” you say.
Jake hastily responses, “Inside please.”

highlights from "in plain sight"
More of Krogan and Viggo making intense eye contact. These two cannot decide if they're rivals or accomplices and I'm loving every second of it.
Is it just me or do Viggo's burns look more red and irritated in this episode? Maybe it's just the lighting? Either way, it looks very painful. And I never realized that it extended towards his ear as well. It would have been interesting to see him dealing the chronic pain and blindness in the left eye. (Although I'm sure there are fics about this. Any recommendations?)
I cannot believe this scrawny shit bullied Dagur as a child. Although it very much explains why Dagur hates nicknames so much! Being called "dainty" would definitely feed into his need to exert power over others. Also can we talk about the fact that his man has a tattoo of what appears to be him hitting Dagur over the head with his fist? And even when Dagur's chief he still talks to him disrespectfully. I'm glad Dagur turned a new leaf but honestly I would have been ok with him hurting Ansson....just a little.
This is so sweet! The friendship between Fishlegs and Dagur is such a nice addition to the character dynamics.
I have no words. Just - behold.
Despite not liking the twist, I have to say evil, knife-throwing Johann is a fun villain. I enjoyed this line.
Alright, let's talk about this. Hiccup says this right before getting Toothless to pounce on Johann with his teeth and claws bared. If Johann hadn't moved out of the way, it looks like Toothless would have mauled him to death. And honestly, I think he should. Let Toothless have some fun.
Sneaky Hiccup!
I don't have much to say about this moment other than that they look really cute here.
I LOVE this shot: the expression on Hiccup's face, the light from the lens, the way his hands are positioned -- it's so good.

I have made a new boy
Hes wus biological son in this au so he gets some dragon traits :D he can't really shapeshift but he can make his wings big for flight, though he usually keeps them small so they don't get it the way. Also you bet your ass hes got lil dragon toe beans hiding under those claws
Story is a bit different. Hes not the master of wind but he does have a bit of wu's power, though it really inly manifests as faster healing and a nice classic dragon laser/blast from his mouth (think toothless from. httyd + laser depending on what he wants) the whole green ninja things still happens though in the cursed realm he's not so much a respected general as he is the preeminents dog, and though he hated her he can't exactly do anything about it. She's the one who put the collar/chain on him and the weird lines on his face are scars from muzzle that stopped him from using his power and talking. He did not possess Lloyd in this au he just did the stuff on his own since he actually is a spinjitzu master in this au. And of course he gets saved and redeemed <3
I love him dearly he is a silly little baby he is the size of a kitten. I want to hold him in my hands and he will try to bite me and it will not hurt because he is tiny.
