Note: knulle/pule only refer to the actions and aren't really used as random expletives the way we might use 'fuck' or 'fucking' in English:

If you stubbed your toe, you'd probably shout "faen!" (lit. "devil") or maybe "fy faen!" for extra emphasis (you can use "fy søren" as a euphamism if you're in more polite company)

If you want to use it as an intensifier (e.g. "that was fucking tiring), you'd probably use "jævlig" ("det var jævlig slitsomt") although I believe it's okay to use "jævla" too (don't quote me on that)

If you want to use it as an adjective ("you fucking idiot!") you would use either "jævlig" or "jævla" ("din jævla tosk!") Jævla is more like... you fucking IDIOT, whereas jævlig is more like... you're a shit person and also an idiot? I think?? That's the nuance I get anyway.

More animals. Today's first random word is kyuk [kjuk], 'to herd (flock of animals, etc.)' The glyph has two components - on the left, kling 'sheep,' which is the semantic determiner / radical, and on the right kuk, the phonetic determiner, which rhymes with kyuk.

(Kuk refers to a kind of ornate post or pillar which has no exact equivalent in English culture - it can serve as a street sign, a boundary marker, or a commemorative whatever.)

You turn back to your girlfriend. “I hope they aren’t doing so bad that they need that business. I doubt they even tip.” 

“Well, they’ll tip tonight because Kuki’s here,” Beidou quips. 

“I thought she was supposed to be in the city,” You huff. 

Beidou sighs, and turns her attention back to her plate. “We all know she’s here because she bailed her stupid boyfriend out of jail.” Beidou ends her sentence by shoving the last three bites into her mouth. 

“You’re going to choke like that,” You huff, glancing over at the table again. Plucking up your beer, you down it and place the empty glass on the table. “I’m going to go get another one from the bar.” 

Beidou’s eye lights up and she makes a few muffled sounds, still chewing, and points at her own, half drunk glass with saucy fingers.

“Yeah, course baby,”  You say, sliding out of the booth and heading towards the bar. With a quick detour, of course. 

Approaching the already rowdy table, you zero in on Kuki. 

“It’s been so long since I’ve seen you!” You say, putting on your most excited face and tone. 

Kuki’s eyes widen as you come in, giving her a hug and kissing her cheeks. “What a treat to run into you here.” 

“H-hey,” Kuki says, brows slightly pinched together, eyes flighty. “It’s good to see you to, [First.]” 

You smile widely at that. “How’s university going? Are you on break?” 

Before Kuki and respond, Itto wraps an arm around her shoulders and laughs. “She came down for the weekend to help me and my compadres out of our sticky situation. Kind of rough, but Kuks make it all better.” 

Kuki’s shoulder’s sag under the weight of her boyfriend. She gently bugs his tattooed forearm. 

“Are you in town all weekend?” You ask Kuki, ignoring Itto. Upon not getting the response he wanted, Itto withdraws and returns to his conversation. 

“I’m going to leave Sunday,” Kuki says. “I’ve got homework due Monday, so…” 

“Well, if you need a quiet place to study,” You put a heavy emphasis on the word, “You can always come over and use my place. I’ve got an office you can use.” 

“I really appreciate that,” Kuki says. “I’ll text you?” 

“Course you can,” You say, leaning down to give her another hug. “You can stay, too, you know,” You whisper to her.

Upon returning to your table, it’s clear that Beidou has successfully not choked, and has also finished her beer. You place it down in front of her, and she picks it up gratefully, taking a few long pulls. 

“What did you say to her?” Beidou asks. 

“Oh, just that she could stay at my place if she wanted. You know, she was just texting me the other day asking for Yanfei’s number. Apparently they ran into each other at a party but never exchanged numbers.” 

Beidou laughs at that. “Really?” 

You hum in confirmation. “Bless her heart though. That boy does nothin’ but drain the life out of her.” 

“I’ll drink to that,” Beidou agrees, raising her glass to clink against yours. 

You take your respective sips before you pause, setting your glass back down. “Wait, Kazuha was here?” 

Beidou nods. “Yeah. Catchin’ up with an old friend or somethin.’ Honestly, shocked me that he would be here by himself without me or Drake here. Well, I guess he wasn’t by himself. Current Obsession-> Dark Souls 2 and No More Heroes....... and I guess yuri manga? im trying to read more yuri but i get burnt out on romances and i hate reading through synopsis trying to find yuri with interesting plots (like otherside picnic). i need to get back on the ds2 horse soon im almost out of shrine of amana but im busy living it up dumpster diving in santa destory ❤️

i think the one i use the most is just fuck/fucking. said in english.

but kuk is a good one. means cock. i also use klappträ but more as an inslut. klappträ is the wood slab you’d use to smack at another wood slab for whatever reason. in other words you dumb as fuck. and useless. jävla klappträ.

13. does your country (or family) have any specific superstitions or traditions that might seem strange to outsiders?

im not sure if some of these exist in the rest of the world but some common supertitions would be:

no keys on the table (bad luck). if you do put them on the table, you toss them on the floor and stomp on them to kill the bad luck i guess.

walking on sewer lids with the letter ”a” on them is bad luck. with the letter ”k” is good luck though. 🤷‍♀️

killing spiders = it will rain. WHO KILLED A SPIDER? its fucking raining again.

you have to spit over your shoulder if you see a black cat. again, bad luck.

oh and on the night of midsummer, you should pick seven different wildflowers and put them under your pillow to dream about your one true love 🥰

Ensign Levs was taking a quiet stroll around Deep Space 9 in the middle of the night. In a way, he felt he should be afraid; the station was host to many dangerous travelers and he would surely be in trouble if Constable Odo found him out here. Instead he was the calmest he had been in a long while. All was silent outside in the stars, as inside the station the soft hum of machines wrapped around the promenade, blocking out any impatient calling from the rest of the universe and any thoughts calling him back to his past. Tonight he was alone in this strange metal castle in the sky.

Such tranquility couldn't last of course. As he got further down the promenade he became aware of what sounded like an excited conversation, coming from Quark's. He thought maybe he should turn back, his Sa-kuk would certainly think it unwise to get mixed up in any of the late night business transactions that went on in the bar. But resisting curiosity was not a skill he had yet achieved.

"... want me to alter station records? You don't seem to realise how tight security is around here," a distinct Ferengi voice was saying.

"Just for accommodation for ..."

"Still it puts me at serious risk-"

"-We can pay of course"

"Well! Why didn't you say so. In that case, ..."

The next sounds Levs heard he interpreted as a computer terminal being used and what he could only guess at the time was latinum being transferred. He suddenly realised that Quark's 'customers' might leave the bar soon if their transaction was complete, and quickly moved from his where he had been leaning against a wall to begin looking for somewhere to hide. Although it was dark, nowhere seemed dark enough to offer full protection from the unknown. He considered just walking swiftly back to the ship but decided if he was seen, these people probably wouldn't want to risk that someone overheard their conversation. In the end, he fell back on his method of honesty to a fault and dashed across the promenade to the security office, cringing heavily as the door noisily opened to let him inside.

As the door was unlocked, he'd expected to see the Constable at his desk, or perhaps one of the security officers using the computers to monitor the station, but nobody seemed to be around. The office was darker than the promenade outside, but after Levs' eyes adjusted he moved further into the room, nervously checking over his shoulder, worried his escape had been noticed. When the coast seemed clear he moved into the room with the holding cells, and found that also free of security personnel, although he back out quickly and quietly when he spotted the sleeping Klingon in one of the cells. He didn't know if Klingons got hangovers or not, but he suspected they would be angry if woken either way. On his way back into the main office however, he noticed an odd bucket on the floor behind the desk. It took a while for his higher reasoning to kick in after the earlier panic, but eventually Levs realised this was where Constable Odo was sleeping. Oops.
