That whole area of media 2010s-2016s ish was a period in which a lot of mainstream media hadn't caught up to the fact that gay people wanted to see themselves represented and ended up doing a lot of ha...maybe...but they say they don't like each other like that...but maybe....(<-the writers have 0 intention of making this an actual couple) Sherlock, also by Steven Moffat is an example of this and so when I was coming up with rough ideas for the various dynamics in different TARDIS teams I thought:

"hey what if a young Amelia spent her whole childhood thinking the man and woman she met were a couple and when they weren't kept trying to get them to see that they were the ones for each other even though neither was interested in anything romantic or sexual with the other"

Her flirting with the Doctor is to get Marion to react while Marion’s main reaction is "Hey? Rory deserves better than that."

So a subplot of season 5 is Amy (and Rory to a lesser extent mostly from being dragged along) is trying to get The Doctor and Marion together with the two of them being varying degrees of oblivious and apathetic.

The joke is that I'm straightbaiting or at least Amy is being straightbaited. I would hope the audience would understand what's going on.

On the topic of Marion and Gallifrey.

Have you ever had a friend, who every now and when would causally give anecdotes about their family, and you never really said anything, because their anecdotes paint a really concerning picture about their homelife, but the tone of voice in which they tell you this clearly thinks that they think what they're telling you is, like, not normal EXACTLY but not so out of the median range of familial behavior to be worth getting upset over and you don’t want to ruin their day, but when you happen to see their mom in public you don't say anything but are visualizing blowing them up with your mind? Maybe you want to tell them off but you don't want to make your friend's life hander.

That's not to mention I'm pretty sure Tectun triggered the Flux bc the Doctor found out so Marion’s eventual blow up is less a furious stream of consciousness as she is wont to do and more of a series of very clipped very angry sentences.

Saku’s def the type to find everything I scrutinize about myself really endearing, so he tends to simply remind me of that fact and it really helps<3. I tend to be a little more bold and annoying by just going “NOPE. INCORRECT.” And then explaining why I think that part he hates is pretty rad actually.

Ooo okok so. Saku to me is Schrödinger’s aroace. When I’m not shipping with him or with someone else, I really like the idea of him being super aro and invested in different types of love, hence the whole family thing. When I am using him for kissing purposes he’s pan :3.

Another random headcanon that I hold true and close to my heart is that he is not a fan of musicals and prefers straight plays. He’ll enjoy the occasional showtune or two and will watch them, but overall he has a bias for straight plays because of the general focus on just acting and he feels they can deliver a more impactful message. (Lu is more of a musical fan tho so he has to sit through her bullshit sometimes skfnnn)

Hmmmm I guess Saku's been a little bit more comfortable letting loose or teasing Lu lately, and he's starting to learn to be a bit more open around her(after a lot of her reassuring him she loves every part of him he chooses to show and won't hate him for showing emotion)(Saku I think you might have trauma stop convincing yourself otherwise). I feel like I've been a lot more honest with myself through all this, and I'm learning to love myself through him. I don't think I miss any past things, I think. In fact, I only really started enjoying Saku as I watched him really develop as a person, and I um. Beta and early versions of Lu are my least favorite iterations of her. So yeah <3

also i know someone wrote a meta post explaining this way better but Laios is just so angry. the post was mostly about how in most media the character who is autistic misreads the social situation is always in the wrong. the character must always realize they've committed a horrible social taboo and eventually apologize to everyone for their bad behavior. but Dugeon Meshi lets Laios be angry. like yeah!! why didn't ppl just explain things to him?? he gets mad when other ppl pretend to get along w him but actually dislike him and are waiting for him to get a clue. so yeah, Laios is a chill guy but underneath that he is just so angry at the world all the time. he's pissed off ppl treat him like a freak for acting sincerely, he's pissed off ppl treat his sister like a freak for her natural talents, and Kabru is super valid and right for assuming that Laios hates humanity bc he kinda does a lil (tho not to the extent that Kabru thought ofc)

Just finished reading your WoY s2 post from earlier and I gotta say, while there are still some bits from s2 I enjoy, I also agree with some of your points and can def agree that s1 was overall a better product than s2. I can still enjoy the comedy of s2, but the somewhat meh story and wasted potential in quite a few of the characters in s2 def makes it a bit frustrating to rewatch. So yeah, very valid in your s2 opinion.

Also as a recently discovered ace/aro myself, yeah it does kinda suck that Dom not being interested in romance was subtly one of the so called 'key reasons' why she was evil when they could've just left it at 'she's evil because she destroys planets'. At the very least, Wander and Syl could still make for decent ace/aro rep, but I can't really blame any aro who got a bad taste in their mouths from watching s2. The whole HaterDom arc was just kinda trash :/

Congrats on finding out you're aro/ace! And yeah while parts of season 2 were enjoyable, much of it sucked. Enough that if someone wants to watch it I'd be willing to put together an episode guide chopping that out.

Insider drama and sex

Reposting my thread about the use of sex as motive/tool in Insider drama (as not to lose it in my twitter)

Thinking back to the talk we had about most (if not all) characters in Insider are asexual in a way. In Insider, sex is never stated as the motive for any character, except perhaps Jang Joon (but he is a whole differect story and I think the grounds for his obsession with Sooyeon and Seonoh are more routed in power play). 

So, power, money - and first of all revenge - are the driving motives, and sex is almost non-present, mostly in the flashbacks about Sooyeon's past of being sold and forced into prostitution. If anything, she uses sex as a tool, for she is definitely ace-coded, maybe due to her past trauma/experience. So, it's kinda odd for me to read takes about her being romantically involved with Yohan.

 Moreover, if we look at other women in Insider, we don't see anybody who is openly romantically/sexually involved with men. We have Annie always dressing "provocatively" (exposing her legs, high heels etc) but all men hate her/afraid of her because of her position as Macau person of contact. Also, Director Jin and Inspector Park Rosa who are almost shown "genderless" in the typically male roles. (I don't remember anybody else worthy of mention).

And onto the men. We hardly ever see the Yang Brothers walking with chicks hanging on their arms (except whatever thing Yang Joon and Sooyeon used to have). The prosecutors although being corrupted are not shown as having mistresses (Prosec. Yoon seems to love his family a lot).

As for Yohan, I'm not surprised at him not having any experience except maybe some casual flings at the uni (I even fanon him as a virgin but oh well). And he is def. not seeing Sooyeon as the object of romantic affection or sexual attraction. (Although I agree that he shows interest, especially in Seonoh and also in Sooyoen)

Finally, Seonoh. Beware of the sensitive topic ahead. And spoilers tw: sexual abuse, grooming At this point we know that Yang Joon killed Seonoh's father (who was going to sell him off), took him under his wing, taught him gambling tricks etc and... there are hints that he might have done something to Seonoh. 

That's purely my own take that may be far from what the creators were aiming at but it's up to the viewers reading anyway. So... Yang Joon's punishment for Seonoh's betrayal was too specific. There had to be something - at least,Yang Joon considered/considers Seonoh as his possession. The poor boy never had any freedom over his own body. Of course, that doesn't make him ace/aro either but... that's one of the viewpoints that may be valid too.

Beloterra ??/10 uh well I had to mull over this one for a bit ngl. I've looked into it a bit. There was one post that explained and elaborated really well on why they'd make a good pair and it was good! But Belos hates witches. Regardless of how much they may have a good connection with him. But now, if we ignore that part.. Honestly I really have a hard time imagining Belos in any romance? Also Ironically despite being an actual White cracker™ who probably comes from the age that sees homosexuality as a mental illness, I cannot see him liking women lmao. Take this lightheartedly please. But in more seriousness, to me, Belos as a character truly shines in other relationship dynamics. Familial, authorial, antagonistic and so on. There's much more interesting stuff to be done with him and his personal relationships and I just can't really imagine the kind of person in the show that he'd fall for. Ngl I'd probably be annoyed if they gave him a romance in the show (obv. Depends alot on how it's done but Idk). This isn't me going "Bad guys don't get to have romance u_u" at all, this is just me saying I'm not sure how I'd vibe with shipping culture™ + Belos.

But I must admit, I think unrequited romances would be kinda fascinating for him. Either in the case that someone likes him and he doesn't like him back, or the other way around. Just something.. Complicated, ykno?

Her interest and interactions with Jayce were not romantic at all imo, if anything I'd probably have to say it just seemed like pure lust. Which, good for them I guess, that's valid too. But you get what I mean?? There were no sparks. They sure had A dynamic, but not a romantically coded one. To me at least.

With that said I'm not gonna protest the fact that they're together, even though I'm just facepalming at it. I'll just let it exist since clearly that's how they wanna tell this story and apparently one gay couple is their maximum quota for this show (looks at Vi and Cait). However, Jayce and Viktor have an infinitely more interesting dynamic and a much more genuine feeling relationship. They actually seem to have a connection and care for each other as people, to an extent I don't see with Mel. To me it felt like she was more interested in Jayce for his inventions. I honestly do with it woulda been Jayce and Viktor, and not just bc "Gay uwu" but genuinely bc it would be very engaging to explore their relationship develop. Ofc, relationships don't need to be romantic to be engaging. But just, with Jayce being a poster boy of the upper class and Viktor rising up from the dumps, it would create interesting conflict for them! Explore that please! It was so cool seeing them work together bc they play off of each other so well! And they were given actual bonding moments!!!!

I'll just say. They both exist to me, in my heart. The way I see it, Jayce and Mel are queerplatonic and Viktor has Feelings™ for Jayce, who is probably a little suppressed about his own feelings for him. Ofc it does clearly seem that he cares for Mel as well. I don't feel annoyed enough to gloss over that. But to me this is how it works and I'll be fine if they explore Viktor and Jayce's relationship in a meaningful way later on.

Also I'm not hating on Mel btw. Tbh I kinda wish she'd turned out to be a bit more devious, that woulda been interesting to me. I feel like she was only allowed to be interesting towards the end of the season (before that she was honestly just "Hot,,, lady👀👀support Jayce inventions??? She is mysterious and graceful,, in a hot way")

I'm curious: in your personal reading of Cas as ace, do you also consider him another orientation (romantic or sexual)? For me personally, I consider him gay and ace, or sometimes gay-oriented aroace.

this is a good question actually lol. most of me wants to say that cas is gay and ace because he did canonically fall in love w/ another man and it means a lot to people to call him the gay angel even though i think he’s the ace angel so like gay ace is a v good compromise i think. ace angel handshake emoji gay angel you know!

however (unpopular opinion warning) i do have a little trouble with meg. with every other woman cas is around he either doesn’t have any chemistry (hannah, daphne), it’s CLEARLY a platonic relationship (kelly), or it’s clearly some kind of comphet weirdness (the orgies in 5.04, the reaper in s9 which also counts as rape in my book). w/ meg though his affection seemed both genuine and...i know but... ??? borderline romantic ??? hard to say. it definitely doesn’t negate or cancel out the obvious and canonical feelings he had for dean, but he liked her! he was dtf! in a way that was very different from his thing with the reaper in cursed season 9.

so like: ??? ace and gay and willing to bang a lady anyway maybe? like because when you’re ace you’re not physically attracted to ANYBODY, so it’s impossible to be physically attracted to whoever you’re banging - ace people have sex for other reasons - emotional intimacy, because it feels good, w/e. so he could have been ace and gay and still willing to nonromantically bang his lady friend just as a form of affection. “biromantic” def feels like the wrong label for cas, even if you slap a “demi-” in front of it - if anything, i’d call him unoriented. 

by unoriented i mean: i myself don’t use the split attraction model bc i don’t like it. that doesn’t mean i think it’s bad in general or bad for other people, it’s just not what i like. so when i say i’m asexual that’s the whole label. my romantic orientation isn’t “aro” or “gay” or “bi” or whatever it’s that i just don’t have one. subtle but distinct difference. so i could see something like that for cas, bc what is he there for if not to project on. he fell in love w/ dean because dean is dean (and in “like” w/ meg because meg is meg) and his orientation or lack thereof had nothing to do with it, you know?

this is NOT EVEN GETTING INTO the secret essay i have on how angel sexuality is totally different than human sexuality - because the taboo is to be attracted to humans, and gender has nothing to do with it - this is ALSO because angel gender is probably totally different than human gender, and human gender is totally fucking made up anyway - male seahorses have the babies, you know? it’s not that defining sexuality and gender is bad (labels are good because they help people be comfortable with themselves and find other people with similar experiences!) but we put the label on the experience, we don’t try to make the experience fit the label.

anyway, the point of all this to say that sexuality is weird and complicated (even moreso when you’re talking about the aro and ace spectrum, even MORE SO when you remember that the way we classify it seems to be somewhat arbitrarily based on gender, which again is kind of a fake concept that we made up), and it seems a liiiittle pointless to try and like, qualify cas’s romantic orientation when the sum total of his romantic feelings (except for MAYBE the .1% of genuine connection he had w/ meg) are just wholly devoted to and laser-focused on dean. like, CANONICALLY, castiel loves dean winchester to the total exclusion of other people. what else really matters, yk

that said, dean happens to be male and cas happens to be in a male vessel, so yes, technically the factual thing to say is that he’s gay and ace because that fits canon, it makes the people who him being gay has meaning for happy, and it also keeps exclusionists on tumblr from calling you homophobic. (apparently headcanoning a gay character as being aspec is homophobic even though the two are not at all mutually exclusive and being aspec isn’t code for being straight because aces ARE queer?? bro don’t even get me started lol)

sorry anon this answer got way longer than intended! but yeah i do think cas is queer like twice over - firstly because he loves a human (angel queer), and secondly because he loves one of his own gender (human queer). you might also say he’s some kind of genderqueer too based on your interpretation of angel genders (???) vs the gender cas became when he decided to stick around in jimmy (male, ostensibly, but many other headcanons work for that too). he’s like queer squared. and i love him. my rainbow angel <3

My unpopular opinion about this character: Yeah, idk how unpopular this actually is, but as I said, for me he’s def ace/aro coded. Being ace myself, I heavily see myself in him and actually get slightly uncomfy when I see shipping posts with him, which might actually be unpopular (of course, that doesn’t mean people can’t ship him or that I shame them for it, if I don’t want to see the posts, I can blacklist)

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish he’d be confirmed ace. Madoka from Puella Magi Madoka! She’s so aro-coded seriously, and it’s not like the other characters are, it’s just Madoka. I love her so much (and relate immensely to her and the way she considers relationships). 

Akane Tsunemori from Psycho-pass, it’s basically canon right? This one headcanon is validated by my alloro friends too. 

All Might from boku no hero academia. “What” you ask. He’s over 50 and no romance in his life. That’s pretty aro to me.

Todoroki, Tsuyu, Momo, Jirou, Koda, basically a lot of the bnha kids. Just because I love them. There’s no other reason. Okay I feel Jirou, especially. Also Deku arospec. Because I can say that.

Yuuri from Yuri on ice is def arospec. Because two crushes in 24 years isn’t alloromantic. (Also, he’s definitely demisexual, and m-spec. That one is canon. Eat a lego biphobes)

Yurio from...Yuri on ice is aro. Just because. Also, “inconditional love” was his love for his grandpa aaaah it made my heart flutter I feared so much it would again be romantic but no, his agape is family. 

Nagisa from Assassination Classroom is aro! Because I fucking love him. Also no romance in his story. I’m love.

Isaac and Miria from Baccano! are aro because they’re just written that way. Also in a qpr. Don’t fight me I’m going to win. Ennis is also arospec. Chane too. 

Chihaya from Chihayafuru is aro/arospec. Cause she doesn’t get romance.

Shizuo and Anri from Durarara!! are both aro. I love them so much. None of them get romance, in fact Anri doesn’t get love at all *for plot reasons* and manages to get love through her love for her friends. Shizuo’s friendships are the best also. 

Kumiko and Reina from Hibike!Euphonium are aro/arospec. Reina’s crush probably isn’t romantic and just heteronormativity transforming admiration into romance. And Kumiko isn’t interested in romance and doesn’t get it. They’re also in a qpr just because I want them to. 

All characters from Houseki no Kuni. Because it’s kinda canon. Romance isn’t even a concept for them so. Love is just that, love. Romance doesn’t exist in their world. 

Shun from Kimi to Boku is aro/arospec. I don’t care that they gave him a fleeting crush on some secondary female character, outside of that he’s 100% aro-coded and this crush didn’t make sense anyway. 

Kino from Kino no Tabi is aro. I...don’t think any explanation is needed, if you’ve seen the anime you probably headcanon her as aro too.

Juri from Kokkoku is aro. Romance isn’t a subject for her sooo. 

Tanaka-kun from Tanaka-kun wa itsumo kedaruge is aro. Doesn’t get romance, isn’t interested. 

The whole main cast of ace attorney is aro/arospec. Honestly it’s difficult not to headcanon them as such. Also Phoenix and Edgeworth are in a QPR. 

Is Layton arospec? I say yes. The Layton main cast is. Katrielle is too. You get the vibe. 

Lucius from Fire Emblem: Blazing Sword is arospec. No one knows that game but I don’t care it’s important for me okay

idk if you remember me talking about this dude I've been admiring that happened to be one of my coworker's crush as well but I gotta tell you smth cause I feel kind of iffy about it

ngl I've just been admiring him from afar because he seems cute under the mask I feel really shallow about this, but I don't want to attempt to shoot my shot until I know he's at least physically my type/attractive (damn that sounded even worse than in my head).

reason for that is because I don't know him. like I've literally never spoken a word with this dude before (we just pass by each other every so often) so I don't have a single clue of how he is personality-wise and he could be a complete asshole yk. secondy, he smokes,,, and while that isn't really a red flag for me, it is a huge turn-off seeing as I've had shit lungs ever since I was little. so if I were to pursuit something he at least need to be cute cause there's nothing going on for him rn 😫

I had to write my fucking details right under his and that included his mfing employee number that I could remember in 2 seconds because it's shorter compared to codes I've had to memorize for work. Okay?! OKAY!

so you could probably already guess what I did with that information. this bitch searched it up on the fucking computer. I found his profile and clicked on his name so I could see his picture and lemme tell you. THIS MOTHERFUCKER DIDN'T HAVE ANY!!! I wanted to bang my head on the wall as my soul slowly left my body.

I was fucking disgusted at myself cause I felt like a stalker, granted it was a complete coincidence that I had to log my info right after him, BUT I LOOKED AT IT!!! that didn't sit right with me and to this day I still can't believe I did that. but to think that I didn't even get the result I expected after all this stress and shit.
