BROKEN TUMBLR ASKS PART ??: WHY DOES THIS WEBSITE SUCK SO BAD.
anonymous  asked:
âFor Buddie prompts: Eddie looking after a sick Buck?â
ooo, sorry, we actually all out of fluffy sickfics, hereâs... this instead xoxoÂ
âYouâre exhausting.â
Buck hears the words ringing in his head as he clears another room, smoke swirling above him, his gear heavy on his frame. The chatter on the radio was drowned out by the roar of the flames, and it was about all he could do to keep an ear open for his name.
Kicking another door in, Buck has to grit his teeth to keep a groan of pain behind his lips, his leg throbbingânot for the first time that night. The screws had come out of his leg months ago, but that didnât mean he was back to 100, not yet anyway; sometimes he just hurt. Neuropathic pain was something he could expect to have flair up until the wound fully healedâwhich could take years, according to his doctor, but...
âWe all have our problems, but you donât see us whining about it.â
But he was not about to bring it up, not about to risk... everything. His team was finally talking to him again. He was finally being brought on calls again. He could keep this to himself. He could go on without whining about it.
He had to.
Fuck, his leg hurt. Neuropathic pain was supposedly a dull, throbbing pressure, but all Buck could feel was fire, like a hot knife had torn him to the bone. Not for the first time, he only allowed himself a moment of âit isnât fairâ before he bottled all that down, gritting his teeth as he braced himself against another door, prepared to burst through the brittle, burning wood.
âGet clear, everyone. The building is getting too unstableâthat means you, Buck.â
âRight, Cap.â
As if Buck would have risked disobeying another order, as long as he lived. He wasnât about to let his problems become someone else's problems, never again.
âSomehow, we all manage to suck it up.â
âCap, I have another resident down here!â
âGot it, Eddie. Buck, give him a hand.â
They were both on the ground floor, thankfully, and the screen on Buckâs wrist led him right to Eddie, who was trying to help an older woman up and out of her bed. It was becoming rapidly clear that she was going to need to be carried, and Buck didnât waste any time in latching his arm with Eddies, hoisting the woman out of the apartment and bringing her out to a waiting gurney.
âSomehow, we all manage to suck it up.â
They may have been free of the inferno, but Buckâs leg was on fire. He had to make sure he was the last on the engine before they took off so no one would notice his unsteady footing, and he managed to pass off his groan of relief as a sigh when he sat down, feeling the sway of the engine as Bobby started to drive away.
They still had a good six hours left on their shiftâGod willing, they wouldnât get any other major calls, and Buck could get some rest. All that he wanted was a shower and some sleep.
âSomehow, we all manage to suck it up.â
He managed to hide his pain with a smile as he de-geared with the rest of the team, always making sure that he was back far enough that his gait would be ignored, but not so far as to arouse suspicion. As much as he wanted to jump into the shower, he wasnât sure how well he would be able to hide his pain if he had to bend over, or if, God forbid, he were to slip against the tile. He chose a bed insteadâhe probably still smelled of soot and sweat, but he was beyond the point of caring, and found himself obscenely thankful that the quiet room was on the first floor, and not up the stairs where the loft was. Buck was usually the last to sleep on shift, too busy being around everyone else, working out, anything he could be doing to absorb the companionship and company that came with a shared 24 hour shift, but⌠that was just another thing that the lawsuit had taken from him, he thought to himself, blindly propping his hurt leg with a pillow as he collapsed into the nearest cot.
âWhy canât you?â
Six more hours. He could make it six more hours.
--
Eddie was not having the best day.
Week.
Month?
He had been struggling, okay?
Part of him had hoped, maybe naively, that once the lawsuit was done, once Buck was back on the house, that⌠things would be back to normal. He had hoped that he and Buck could be back to normal.
Buck, obviously, hadnât gotten the memo, because somehow, things were even worse than they were when the lawsuit was in full swing. Buck was still there, he was going through the motions, but that was it. Eddie should have known it would be too easy to hope for the easy camaraderie that there was before, but he had at least hoped they would be able to talkâeven that was proving to be harder than pulling teeth.
In hindsight, of course, Eddie had realized that a good amount of the distance that had grown between them was his faultâhe knew his anger had gotten the best of him when the lawsuit had started (hell, the near fatality in his little fight ring had proven that), and once it was wrapped up, it was still nearly impossible for him to look Buck in the eye.
He wasnât proud of it, but that opinion really didnât change until he realized what Buck had given up just to get back on the squad.
Millions of dollars. Millions. Eddie loved his job, but if someone offered him a chunk of change like that, he would have taken it and never looked back, but all Buck wanted to do was come back to his teamâhis familyâand didnât that just dig the knife in a little deeper?
Now, though, Eddie was determined to make it right. Even if it meant waking Buck up, dragging his ass out of the sleep room, and forcing him in to a family dinner with the rest of the squad.
âBuck, you up?â
Eddie could see the other male splayed outing a cot, his silhouette barely visible in the dimmed light. He felt bad about waking the other upâespecially after how hard he had known Buck had been workingâbut the best time to start to apologize would have been yesterday, and today was just delaying the inevitable.
He took a few steps into the room and gently shook Buckâs leg, blinking in surprise as his hand touched dampnessâwas Buck sweating?
He pulled his hand up, examining it in the light from the doorway. It was⌠dark?
It was red.
âBuck?â
Fuck, it was red.
âBuck⌠oh fuck, Buck, oh fuckââ
Eddie felt his hands flying now, his voice kicking up as he spoke, throwing blanket and pillows across the room. Buck was pale, inhumanly so, and he immediately started checking for vitals as he started to shout.
âBuck, come on, wake up, Buck!â
Pulse was present, barely, thready and weak.
âBuck! Hen, Chim! Help! Buck, no, Buck!!â
--
It was a laceration. A cut, only a few inches long, along his leg, that had cut right through his PPE, and right through the first few layers of tissue in his leg. The doctor that had cleaned out the wound had pulled out shards of splintered wood, which was concerning in its own right; even though he was off blood thinners, the constant motion had kept the wound open, for⌠fuck, for what must have been hours.
Eddie didnât need a doctor to get that confirmation. The blood that had pooled around the cot certainly didnât come from a few momentsâand even before then, the spatters on the floor, the soaked tear in the pant leg... it was more than enough to set Eddie on edge.
He had sent up a silent thanks to Carla, patron saint of child care, as he sat beside Eddie in the emergency room, patiently waiting for Buck to regain consciousness. No surgery required, thank Godâjust a dozen or so stitches, about three pints of blood, and a steady drip of pain medication.
And, okay. Maybe he was indulging himself, holding onto Buckâs hand as he started to stir once more, not bothering to hide the massive wave of relief that crashed over him when Buck started to stir again.
The pain-medication-laced smile that Buck shot him was one of the most beautiful things Eddie had ever seen.
âHi Eddie!â
âHey Buckaroo.â
He even sounded happy. God, Eddie missed that, seeing a shadow of his old Buck, the one who smiled and was happy and pain free, and it definitely disturbed him that he couldnât remember the last time Buck had seemed so happy.
The moment wasnât designed to last, thoughâas Buck started to take in more and more of his surroundings, his smile slipped off of his face, and it didnât take the heart rate monitor amping up its speed to tell Eddie that Buck was starting to panic.
âHey, hey, youâre okay, Buck. You just needed to get patched up and youâre going to be okay.â
âFuck, Eddie, Iâm so sorry, I didnât mean toââ
Wait, what the fuck? âBuck, it was an accident. Youâre okay.â He really hoped his voice was more soothing than confused, because Buck looked dangerously close to tears.
âIt was an accident, Eddie, I promise. I swear I didnât mean to, I was trying to be careful and I didnât mean to get hurt, you canât let Bobby kick me off the squad again, Eddie, please.â
Eddie felt like his voice might have been as raw as Bucks, shaking off the shock at that admission, moving to gently grip Buckâs shoulders. âWoah, Buck, we know you didnât mean to. Bobby isnât mad, he and the rest of the squad had to bring the rig back, theyâll be here soon, they wanna see you, andââ
âI justâI didnât want to bother anyone, I know itâs exhausting trying to put up with me sometimes, so I didnât want toââ
âWoah woah woah, Buck, slow down, youâyouâre not exhausting, who the fuck even told you that?â
There was an auditable click as Buck shut his mouth, his eyes pained and his face bright red, and Eddie had a minute to look him over before reality came crashing around his head.
ââŚI said that, didnât I? Oh fuck, Buck, you have to know I was just talking out of my ass, okay? I was just angry, of course I didnât mean it.â
âBut itâs true, Eds, I have to suck it up and deal with it, itâs not fair for me to lay all of it on you guys at work, and Iâm sorry, but you canât tell Bobbyâitâs hard, but Iâm getting better at it! I promise, I canât lose you all again, please, Iââ
His voice dies in his throat as Eddie pulls him into his arms, crushing him in a tight hug, and Buck canât breathe, his eyes burning with tears as Eddie buries his head in his neck. Eddie didnât speak until Buck finally started to hug him back, arms uncertain. âYouâre not going to lose us, Buck. Never again. I promise, okay? Youâre basically stuck with us until the end of time, Iâm not going to let you go, and neither is Chris, and neither is the 118.â
The muffled sob that Buck let out into his shoulder told Eddie all he needed to know. They had all fucked up, hard, if that had been the looming fear behind all of Buckâs decisions lately. He had been self isolating from the team, he wasnât cracking jokes, he didnât even come up for family dinners unless he was specifically asked toâand while Eddie thought they had all just needed some time, Buck had been suffering in silence since he returned.
Fuck.
âBuck, listen to me. We are your family. We fight sometimes, and we all make mistakes, and Iâm so, so sorry that we made this mistake, okay? But no matter what, we love you. Chim, Hen, Bobby, Mads, hell, even Athena, and... and me, Buck, we love you. I love you. So please, stop beating yourself up over it and just... let us love you, okay?â
Eddie reluctantly let go as he felt Buck start to pull back, his face contorted in fear and pain, but his expression started to smooth out as he nodded, the machine next to him beeping and whirring as his heart rate started to go down. The pain medicine couldnât have picked a better time for another dose. Eddie started to ease him back onto the bed as Buckâs eyelids started to droop, only comforted by the even rise and fall of his chest.
"Thanks, Eddie...â
Eddie let out a short, wet laugh as Buck finally relaxed against the bed, treated to another smile before Buck slipped into unconsciousness.
â...love you, too.â
And Buck was out again.
Eddie didnât even have time to process what Buck had said, distracted by the swoosh of automatic doors, multiple voices talking at once as the 118 poured back into the emergency room, officially off shift, and Eddie gave Bucksâ hand a squeezeâjust oneâbefore he stood up and left the curtained off bed, ready to face the team with the grim reality Buck had just tossed into his lap.
They had work to do.
But Buck... Buck was worth every minute of it.

Heartbeat, Heartbreak - B.B (3/8)
Summary: Three musketeers until you started to fall in love. But, have you been living since then? (Modern!Reader/Bucky Barnes). Â
Prompt: âThatâs disgusting. Youâre lucky youâre cute.â
A/N: This for @notimetoblogâs writing challenge. this is getting so dramatic but please enjoy.Â
Feedback is always welcomed.
âNatasha came into my life around middle school and somehow she got me and Bucky to become her friends. I donât even remember how it happened, she just came up to my lunch table one day and we just started talking. After that Bucky was following her like some lost duckling, maybe he was in love with her from the very beginning, Iâm not to sure because he always seem to have a girl around him..trying to catch his attention. But, there we were...a sort of uneasy version of the Three Musketeers.â
Anything moving forward in regards to the deal is made through Sam after the initial meeting, it makes James wonder if she is out of the deal completely or if she would rather just not see him of all people. Itâs the only answer he receives in regards of whether she  remembered him or no. James, like now, often found himself questioning how the years had treated her --she had always been on the studious and quiet side, and while it still seemed like that she knew how to control the room to lead it into her directions. She was silent but deadly, so he could understand why she was one of Stark Industries best lawyers.
âSo, are you done daydreaming?â a teasing voice asks, which causes Bucky to look up and see a smiling Sam as he glances back down on the memo attached to the proposal -- an all too familiar name written at the end of it, which had caused his mind to linger in the first place.
âYeah, sorry,â James lets out an unsteady laugh, as Sam shakes his head as their fourth meeting comes to a close.
âAre you thinking about a certain someone?â Sam questions with an arched eyebrow and James has to wonder how much he might know, how much she had told him -- a small light of hope flickers in the back of his mind as he leans a bit forward than before.
âHow much do you know?â
âEnough to understand why she would throw away a promotion than to deal with you,â Sam answers back with a streak of protectiveness that James had felt a lifetime ago when someone tried to hurt or talk about his girls -- and now Natasha certainly didnât need that and she had shut the door with tears streaming down her face all those years ago. Â
âW-What?â James lets out uneasily, as Sam sighs.
âLetâs just say you sign with Rumlow,â Sam explains leaning into the plush chair that he had taken a seat in Jamesâ office. The sun came in overlooking the Brooklyn Bridge lightning the old red brick office with several accolades and pictures around the wall, he took a moment to finally take in, âThen, Rumlow takes the promotion as head of the department. If you sign with me, it gives her a mark, but since she didnât directly deal with you...well, Rumlow could use that against her.â
âThat doesnât seem fair,â is the only thing James can say. The pit of his stomach churning at what he might cause her once more. He canât help but think he has never done anything right by her -- not in their shared teenage years and certainly not now if he was causing her the loss of a job promotion. Â
âChester Phillips is a hard man to bargain with,â Sam lets out with a shrug, having dealt with the man hundreds of times before and while Philips was the one that had brought him into Stark Industries -- he was still a hard ass either way -- she knew that more than most people though.
âItâs best not to think about the things you canât fix,â Sam states from his own personal experience. The meeting having long since ended and turning into something more personal, âYouâre just gonna hurt more people trying to dig up old bones.
With that last piece of advice, Sam gives the dazed man a smile before picking up his suitcase and saying that heâll contact James for the next meeting. Sam knows heâs close to striking a deal, but from he knows about James Barnes --the man was a sentimental fool-- he knew that he wasnât going to get anything closed until he saw a certain someone, talked to them one on one to let old feelings die. It was extremely unprofessional, but thatâs just how life went some ways -- and Sam knew what he had to do something about it.
Sam had to call in the big guns, he just wasnât sure how she was going to handle all this. At least, somewhat well, was all he could hope for.
--- and Mr. Barnes,
As our impending deal and merger come to an end, I would like to take the time to take you both out to lunch at your earliest convenience.
I look forward to meeting and talking with both of you over your future endeavors and what else can be done to strengthen our connections in the future.
Thank you,
Virginia Potts
C.E.O of Stark Industries.
You can only curse at the sight of the little message in your email box.
In all of your years of working and knowing Pepper Potts, you sometimes didnât know what to expect from her. She had started as the personal assistant of Mr. Stark at around the same time you and Sam had started in the legal department. The two of you had seen discussions go on between Mr. Stark and Philips in the most stubborn of ways men could argue over things and were often the go between for the two of them when things got too heated. You found an easy work relationship with the woman who as a forefront was quiet and organized, but was stubborn as well when she wanted to be.
She could quickly learn things and catch things that most people couldnât and thatâs what you missed when you became a one-track mind sort of person. Pepper was scary when she wanted to be, so you werenât sure how you were going to handle your old personal life potentially going to be on display to her as the CEO.
You didnât want to know how much Pepper potentially knew at this point, she always had her ways of being noisy around such things and what exactly she was planning this lunch to be.
âHow have the dealings with Mr. Barnes been so far?â she asks, while the of you are been driving to Per Se for lunch that afternoon. There were a smile on her face that you already knew she was up to something -- if there was something that the Potts-Stark couple shared was their nosiness around the people and things that they care about. Â
âSam tells me they have been going well,â you start off as blue eyes give you a questioning look, âI have been finishing off the Lesher Holdings acquisition, but I should be back to it soon.â Â
âThatâs good,â Pepper gives you a smile before going back to looking at her phone, as you look out the car window.
Yup, she definitely knows something.
James Barnes might be the successful CEO of a small company off in Brooklyn, but the restaurant that he is set up to meet with a certain someone and Pepper Potts was certainly out of his league. He had gone through a mild panic attack until Nat had promised to be there with him up to when he had to enter the restaurant, though with little Rose along for the ride since it was Natâs turn to take care of her as Sharon worked.
And while James should be worried about two people potentially meeting, he was more nervous about meeting the CEO of Stark Industries once more that anything else flew over his radar. Rosie cooing in her baby carry-on strapped to the front of Natâs body, as the woman had an irritated look on her face while fighting with Jamesâ tie.
âJames, youâre going to be fine,â Nat remarks with a tired sigh, as she straightens the blue tie one last time, âYouâve already met her and Tony Stark before and you did just fine. Stop being such a baby.â
âI--â he hadnât gotten the chance to tell Nat the second part of the situation -- that he had found her and that she wanted nothing to do with him. The two of them finding her had always intrigued them in some way, but to actually have her in front of them once more -- well, he wasnât sure in which direction Nat was going to take if she ever found out. Â
âYouâll do great,â Nat gives him a brief smile before stopping anything else she was going to say, as a black car pulls up to said restaurant. However, Bucky canât see who is coming out of the vehicle that catches Natashaâs eye -- her brief pause doesnât register to Bucky as she quickly masks whatever distress she might be going through.
âGo âem Buck,â is all she says while patting him on the shoulder on last time. James smiles and nods before heading in. Â
If she had seen a ghost, she doesnât tell him and decides to stay quiet for now and gather her thoughts for another time, as Rose gurgles for her attention.
Pepper is quick to notice there is a tense aura in the air between the two people she is sharing this lunch with and while Sam had shared some details of what he knew, the CEO could tell that there was more to that. She was good at reading people, but is was more than obvious that Mr. Barnes was throwing longing, lovestruck eyes at a certain someone that wouldnât even look his way. She frowns because it must have been something if you, the stature of professionalism, was bothered by being near James Barnes.
Like now, as you took the farthest seat away from him and only greeted him with a nod, while Pepper came up to the man and shook his hand as he kissed her on the cheek.
âMr. Barnes, it is good to see you again,â Pepper states before taking the seat between the two of you, âI hope the merger details are going well.â
âItâs good to see you again, Ms. Potts,â he answers back, blue eyes glancing at you for a moment as you proceed to look at the menu with extreme interest, âAnd yes, Sam has been very understanding thus far.â
Lunch moves forward as best as it can with two people clearly talking, though one is staring longing at the third, as you stay quiet and eat your order unless Pepper needs you to answer something, which isnât often. Pepper, for once is at a loss of what to do next, until her phone begins to ring and you stare at her in a mix of horror and confusion as she begins to get up.
âIf youâll excuse me,â Pepper states with an uneasy smile, as she looks between the two of you for a brief second hoping that everything will be alright.
Pepper leaves, giving you an apologetic frown, as she leaves you and James in utter silence. You look at your half-finished food while James tries to pick up the courage to talk.
âI--â he starts off, as you look up at him with dead serious eyes. Â You take a zip of water before turning to look at him with nothing but fury in your face and for a brief moment Bucky remembers when you were younger and that look was nothing but love and adoration.
âIf you can do one thing, just one measly thing to do right by me, James,â you whisper harshly, âThen, leave me the hell alone.â
James can hear the silent please at the end of your statement because even now you werenât going to be the type of beg. You go back to staring at your plate, at the floor, your hands -- anything that isnât the grief stricken James, who runs a hand down his face in utter defeat and desperation. His voice sounding meeker and more broken than before.
âIf I said I was sorry---â he starts off, only for you to get up and drop your napkin on the table. Your eyes a bit redder than before.
âYou werenât sorry back then. Donât try to make amends when itâs already too late,â you state softly before getting up and walking out of the restaurant, unsure of where you are going but knowing you couldnât stand looking at James and now knowing that he and Natasha had created a future together -- that they had gotten married and had a beautiful baby together. Â
You let out a dry sob and hail a taxi from outside, already preparing the email you were going to send Pepper as an explanation for your sudden disappearance.
And James just sits there, his own eyes watering as a certain redhead comes back to the table -- the aftermath of what she had been planning clearly not what she thought it was going to be. Pepper sits down across from James and places her hands calmly on the table, meal clearly forgotten, as she looks him squarely in the face.
âYou know,â she starts off with a light laugh, âI think this is the first time, Iâve seen her run away from a lunch meeting rather than the other way around.â
âSheâs that good, huh?â James lets out with a watery and bitter laugh.
âSheâs the best Iâve got,â Pepper shrugs as Jamesâ eyes sparkle with some unknown emotion that Pepper couldnât even begin to understand -- love and loss all in the same gaze, as she moves forward with her plan, âHowever, thatâs not what I am here to talk about, not even the merger.â
The serious look on Pepperâs face makes James sit up a bit straighter than before: âPlease donât believe that I am doing this for you in anyway. I have known and worked with her long enough to understand that there has always been something holding her back when it comes to enjoying life, the fruits of all her hard work. The emotions that you rile up in her isnât something that Iâve ever seen from her in all the years I have seen her working with the worst in people.â
âI see,â James lets out slowly, though still unsure, âBut, what does that have to do with me?â
âIf it helps her move on, I would gladly help you in any way I can,â Pepper admits with a small smile as James looks at her in completely shock. The opportunity that he had been waiting for is staring him right in the face, but before he can thank her -- Pepper adds one more thing.
âBut, I swear, Mr. Barnes. You break her heart once more and Iâll make sure you sure you regret it every single day of your life.â
James nods quickly as Pepper gets up without another word. At this point, he was willing to do everything and what Pepper didnât know was that he had been regretting breaking your heart the first for the past couple of years -- he didnât have anything to lose now. Â Â
It isnât until several days later that Bucky finally gets to see Nat again. However, it isnât like the last time -- this time sheâs wearing her poker face and her body is more tense than usual as if she was getting ready to go to war. Green clashes with blue as she puts down her drink. Her voice dipping into sadness for a moment, before she shut up with her anger completely.
âWhy didnât you tell me you had found her?â

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a single man in want of a good fortune must be in want of a wife. Yet for Steven Rogers, painter of miniatures, it is not the company of ladies, but the acquaintance of Captain James Buchanan Barnes, Royal Navy, that captivates his imagination.

The dappled sunlight played over Buckâs face, making him look like a magical creation, some kind of illusion. Steven reached out a hand to touch, to make certain he was real.
Buck started and pulled away when Stevenâs fingers made contact.
âSorry!â Steven snatched back his hand. âI didnât--â

He doesnât have a concept of how long ten years is anywhere. Not even before heâd been yanked out of a natural, linear progression. Heâd been six years old once; heâd been sixteen and then heâd been twenty-six. But the breadth of time between those momentsâwhat the hell is ten years?
A long, long time. Thatâs all he knows.
(Bucky goes to war. Ten years later, he comes home.)

Steve is fine raising his young son as a single dad. He misses his late wife, Peggy, every day, but his job with Stark Industries is fulfilling and he loves his friends. He doesn't need anything or anyone else. But then Pepper Potts hires Bucky Barnes, the new daycare provider for Stark Towers, and everything changes.
Steve knows that Bucky is attracted to him, but Steve totally, completely and utterly will not allow himself to feel the same. He can't. Because he has a million-and-one excellent reasons to not fall in love with the smart, funny, kind and sexy-as-hell Bucky Barnes.

âRogers!â
The door whooshes open to reveal a lithe man with haphazardly messed up blond hair and squinty blue eyes, being swallowed by a blanket.
âNo need to shout, Peggy. I told you I was awake,â he says, his voice low and rumbly. He looks to Bucky and hums approvingly. âThatâs the ugliest suit in the world, but somehow you still look hot. If you wanna forget about being my bodyguard, you could just join me in bed,â he says flirtatiously, blinking at Bucky through way-too-long eyelashes.

Three hundred years ago, Earth was destroyed. Only by shipping offplanet and transitioning into robots does humanity survive--barely. Now, centuries later, what was once their saving grace, Androids, have become expendable. Distrusted, mistreated, and forcibly deactivated, Androids are under attack.
Steve, former human, political dissenter with an ardent love for fire, and now full Android with an inability to keep his goddamned mouth shut, is tired. Bucky, former human, war survivor who was rescued from a self-loathing spiral out of a literal trash can, and now full Android with emotional turbulence, is lonely.
When the two meet, they find that living is not about what makes them robots, but the spark that makes them human.
But is it too little too late? Because to survive the threat of this new world together, it's possible that simply feeling human may not be enough.

On the day aliens fall to earth through a hole ripped in the sky, Bucky Barnes is pulled from the rubble of the Battle of New York by a mysterious man wearing a costume and a cowl.
The next day, he wakes up in the hospital and makes a new friend named Steve Rogers - a certified weirdo with a deck of cards and plenty of time on his hands.
A postcard, a text, and a thousand miles of asphalt later, Bucky's still trying to understand the man who came from the stars.
Steve, meanwhile, is finally putting the journey ahead of the destination.

HYDRA may have been revealed and taken down in the span of a few hours, but the repercussions are far more extensive. Steve Rogers, now ex-SHIELD agent, expects to be feeling them in his life for years. What he didn't expect was for them to reach into him and change the most fundamental thing he thought he knew about himself - that he doesn't have a soulmate.

Bucky casts around the field, the light rapidly fading as the storm clouds grow denser, swallowing up the weak winter sun. The spirits are here, he can feel them, their amorphous thoughts, panicked and trembling. They can feel his own fear, rising in the back of his throat, fuelling their own terror. Bucky reaches for the chain around his neck, fumbling for his amulets. His fingers close around the two pieces of silver, fine and bright as the scars on his arm. Please. Please keep me safe.

When Bucky Barnes is abducted by political activists, the circumstances are simple enough. Desperation breeds all sorts of terrible decisions, after all, and Bucky's captor is clearly woefully out of his depth. Maybe, just maybe, he can talk his way to freedom, but the more Bucky learns about the circumstances of his capture, the more complicated things seem to get. On the run and forced to trust the man who abducted him, Bucky comes to realize that kidnapping is the least of his worries.

Steve Rogers hates James Barnes. The feelingâs mutual; their families have been at war for longer than theyâve been alive. But King Odin has had enough. He orders the two of them wed to end the fighting.
Itâs not enough that they have to look at each otherâs faces without spitting; the King has declared the yearâs tournament in their honor. Theyâll have to lead the events together. Theyâll be wed in front of everyone.
Theyâll have to share a gods-be-damned bed.
And if being married to their worst enemy wasnât enough, now thereâs rumors of assassins and talk of a new war and somehow, Steve and Bucky find themselves in the middle of it all. Theyâre going to have to set aside their hatred long enough to stay alive. And if they start to realize that they might have feelings for each other?
It might not be soon enough.

âSir.â At the uncharacteristic interruption from JARVIS, everyone falls silent. âThere is an unauthorized person in the back left-hand corner of the room.â
Steve turns around, already knowing who heâll see as everyone scrambles to their feet. Sure enough, itâs Bucky, curled up in an armchair, loose-limbed and relaxed as a cat. Long brown hair cascades around his shoulders and the tips of his ears are exactly as pointed as Steve remembers.
Nat whips a gun out from somewhere and points it at him. Tony has a repulsor on his hand. Wandaâs hands are up and surrounded by a red glow. Only Thor seems unworriedâresuming his seat after an initial moment of battle-readiness.

Bucky glances around with bright, inquisitive eyes. The corners of his lips tip up in a smile, as though amused by the chaos his appearance caused. âWe meet again, Captain.â
Tonyâs eyebrows are parked halfway up his forehead as he studies Bucky. âI see what you mean by Lord of the Rings, Cap.â Then, aggrieved, âJARVIS, how did he get in?â

Sir Steven, knight, alpha, and baron of a small countryside estate, receives an invitation to a Royal Tournament: Itâs a winner-take-all competition, and the prize? The hand of Prince James, the kingdomâs most eligible omega, in marriage.
It seems like a lifetime ago that young Steven left the palace â and his best pal, the prince - to attend to his familial duties. Since that time, heâs dreamed of reclaiming his friendship with the prince; if not as a companion, then perhaps as a member of the princeâs guard.
Prince James, royal, omega, and heir to the throne is tired of being reduced to his designation and pressured into an arranged marriage like a political pawn. He devises the tournament as a means to an end: winner claims his hand in marriage, but if he wins? Heâll get to claim his own future.
Let the tournament begin...
