I tried to take a nap and I dreamed that someone I know who died a month ago but that I wasn't overly sad about it because he was a huge asshole in life was like standing off to the side as I was watching something on tv and he wasn't like watching with me he was more just watching the screen to find any reason to be mad about it and every time something happened that he didn't like he'd turn if off and i'd turn it back on and after this happened a couple times he just fully unplugged it so I couldn't turn it back on again and then I got up and plugged it back in and he gave up
#my post#in life he was that much of an asshole and it was exactly that easy to get him to give up despite everything that came out of his mouth#and i spent more time than i care to admit arguing with him about completely harmless shit i was doing back when i was in high school#because he didn't like it and incorrectly assumed that because i had to live under his roof because mom did that meant he owned me#and he felt like that meant he was entitled to make decisions about me and my body and just my life in general#and i remember around the time i was outed he fully just threatened to shoot me and he did have one of his guns on him at the time#and i got up from the couch and walked right up to him and got in his face and called him a bitch and dared him to do it#and he just turned around and went into his room and didn't come out or speak to either myself or my mother for the rest of that day#because he was one of those people who talked a lot of shit and relied too heavily on intimidation but would not ever back any of it up#and he just did not know what to do when anyone especially an at the time like 16 year old girl stood up to him or called him on it#another time he got mad that i was starting to wear black lipstick which it was literally just one of those halloween store lipsticks#cause that was what was available in the area we lived in at the time#and he told me that it looked like i had smeared literal actual shit on my lips#and i told him that if his shit was consistently that dark he needed to see a doctor#and i said it to be a bitch and i went on to make more makeup choices he hated#but he did eventually get diagnosed with colon cancer so i was right and he was wrong#which was usually how that went#one of those i'm right because i'm a man and i said so types#but he was rarely ever right about anything

Teacher tells me I am lying about my mother having cancer.
This is a long one with TLDR at bottom
This was in my grade 11 year of high school, My computer class had a year long substitute teacher because our amazing teacher was out for a year working on a government contract. Our previous teacher was outstanding. He had six different classes in our classroom all happening at the same time which were: computer repair, programming lvl1, programming lvl2, networking lvl1, networking lvl2a and lvl2b. He would give a lecture for each of the classes on a specific day of the week, programming on Monday, repair on Tuesday and so on, we would all work in our own groups and everything went quite well.
The next year came around and I found out that we had a sub for the year I had two back to back blocks in this class cause I was doing two courses, I wandered up to the class to see what kind of teacher we were dealing with, mainly interested because i was almost certain whoever they found did not have the credentials to teach at least half of those classes. The new teacher was a foreign woman that none of us have ever heard of before, for the purpose of the story we will call her Mrs. S.
I went and found my friends to tell them what I had seen. We were all optimistic cause from a very short conversation she seemed quite informed and had a good background.
It didn't last long, on the first day of class Mrs. S introduced herself as a programming teacher who had been in school for four years. She went on to tell us about her programming experience in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access. She then told us that the programming students would not be doing the Java and C++ course we had signed up for and would instead be doing database and Excel because those are what she learned and she said and i quote 'they will be more useful than C and The Java'. She also went on to suspend all at lunch clubs because she didn't think high school students could be trusted with computers alone.
Understandably some of us were quite upset about that considering that we came there to program. She also did not give the repair people or the networking people any kind of support and completely stopped their lectures as well, preferring to let them figure it out themselves and 'self teach' without giving any of the resources to do so and occasionally throwing out a test pre-written by the last teacher for her.
This continued for about two weeks till one day she came in and said quite irritated that we would actually be doing 'The Java' now unless we wanted to keep doing database, so we switched to Java and she basically left us out to dry from there. because she wasn't teaching Database anymore she came to harass people in computer repair. First she told us the shop room was too messy and made us throw out 90% of our training workstations and equipment because they were not important in her eyes. Equipment that did not belong to the school but actually belonged to the other teacher. We took home what we could steal for safe keeping but she did end up throwing out a few thousand in equipment.
Then she started imposing stupid rules on us such as;
"You can't have the computer on while you are troubleshooting inside cause you could electrocute yourself"
Or
"You don't need the case open to troubleshoot motherboard lights"
Or my personal favorite and the most scary
"maybe you should change the power supply to 240v if you aren't getting enough power"
We followed most of her stupid requests as much as we could because she threatened to lock us out of the lab room and give us only textbook work if we didn't. Needless to say it was a challenging time. One of the students in the networking area got fed up and started doing up his own course work and lecturing to us so that we could at least get some kind of use out of the courses. To his credit it was all very good but Mrs. S had the balls to force him into doing it from there on out and then turn around and give him low grades for not getting his own work done on time.
A few months of this very uneasy balance go by and my mother comes down with Colon cancer. I have already had a handful of other family members suddenly taken from me by cancer so understandably this is a very stressful time. I was joking with my friends and trying to not break down over the whole thing. I had a very unstable laptop running Linux that would crash if looked at funny and had a horrible habit of corrupting the OS when the battery died because the reserve shutdown sensor didn't work anymore (battery always read 0% but would go for an hour or two). while I was working on the school desktop computer I had a few pages open that I was taking notes in and a facebook tab so I could keep in contact with my mother cause she was in surgery and I was waiting for her to come out. I look over and the teacher is snooping through my laptop opening folders and closing windows and eventually pushes the power button in till it shuts down (which also usually corrupts anything I was doing). The following happened.
M: What the hell do you think you are doing?
S: You shouldn't be on facebook or writing notes on a personal computer during class time, especially when your grades are slipping.
Thanks for bringing that up in front of everyone...
M: That gives you no right to touch my stuff! You better hope you didn't just corrupt everything! this laptop breaks easy.
S: Then you shouldn't have it out during class, keep that tone up and I'll see you get a detention.
At this point I am trying just to keep calm because if I get too emotional I have a tendency to explode. This is often made worse because of my mild autism. I took a second replied in a calmer tone.
M: I'm sorry, I'm just having a hard time at home right now... My mother was diagnosed with Colon Cancer and I am waiting to hear back.
And this is the part which REALLY set me off.
S: You don't look like a kid who's mother has cancer, quit making sob story excuses.
are you FUCKING kidding me‽
It took every fiber of my body not to stand up and slap the bitch right there. I gave her the dirtiest thousand yard stare I think I have ever done while also trying to not burst out crying. I spoke to nobody for the rest of the day till I got home, people kept asking if I was okay and I ignored everyone. My mother was out of the hospital and home by the time I got there. I broke down crying and told her about my day, her face was comforting but you could see the fire of an angry woman behind her brown eyes. She told me not to worry and that it'd be okay.
A few weeks passed and I was called into the office for a one on one parent teacher conference someone forgot to tell me about. There were all the teachers I had that year, good and bad, my Learning assistance teacher the VP and the principal herself. They told me that we were there to discuss my grade slippage as soon as my mother came. My mother was about 10 minutes late, leaving me to awkwardly sit with all these people. She comes in and is all smiles,
M: Sorry I am Late! I got held late at the hospital.
Someone but i'm not sure who asked her why she was at the hospital and if everything is okay. My mother answered in her happy way.
M: I was just getting my C̭̟̦̤̕A̰̣̰̼Ń͕̝̬C̵͕E̯R̥̫͇̹̳͝ checked on, Because I have cancer.
The room went cold and her voice seemingly dripped with blood when she said it, my computers teacher went pale and everyone in the room was giving a confused 'what on earth did you do' look
My mother proceeded to relay me coming crying home about how I was treated to everyone present while Mrs: S tried to become one with the wall of the small meeting room. She kept it short but to paraphrase added the following.
M: How dare you say something so careless to my son, I hope you are ashamed and I hope you don't get invited back for another year.
She then returned back to her normal happy self and discussed my grades like nothing happened whilst half the teachers were still trying to figure out what just happened and told them that now she was out of the hospital my grades should improve again. I just sat quiet the whole time and tried to suppress bursting out laughing.
After that day she never directly spoke to me again, had instructions relayed through other people or gave them to the class as a whole, she did her damnedest to be nowhere near me and say nothing to me. My grades improved quite a bit and the year ended with me passing.
Mrs. S was previously offered a job at the school as a secondary computer teacher but after all the trouble the job was pulled back. The next year when our first computer teacher returned he was furious to learn most of his equipment and personal books had been thrown out, we returned the things that we snagged during the purge but he still lost a few thousand in personal teaching stuff. The school payed him back with 10,000 but he says he lost so much more than that in time and pre-set hand made equipment. We told him all about the horror show and he gave us all an extensive test normally given at the end of the year which the vast majority of us failed, we ended up redoing all the computer courses from the previous year because in his words she didn't even teach us the basics. that sub can no longer teach in this or the neighboring districts
TLDR: Shitty year long sub fucks us all over, tells me i am faking my mother's cancer and destroys another teachers personal property. Gets ripped into by mother with all my teachers and VP and P present. looses opportunity to work in my district or any surrounding for being unprofessional and not knowing her subject forcing everyone in her class to retake the next year.

Last Thursday (March 7) I got to speak to a large Women’s Bible Study in San Francisco. I attended the study for three years and have quite a few friends still involved. Here’s what I said. (Health update and other details below the speech.) Also, it won't hurt my feelings at all if you skip the speech and just read the health update. :)
_________________________________________
I’m thankful I get to be here with you ladies this morning. You are always such a blessing. Malene and Karen invited me to give an update on how I’m doing. Most of you know me, but let me introduce myself to those of you I’m not yet acquainted with. My husband and I grew up in Cincinnati Ohio, I’ve served as a missionary to Haiti and spent two years teaching in China. My husband and I believed God called us to San Francisco so we moved here four months after we got married in 2006. When we got here everything that could go wrong went wrong, including losing our housing on the same day I found out I was unexpectedly pregnant. That surprise pregnancy led me to seek help at Alpha Pregnancy Center, the pregnancy ended in miscarriage but I never forgot that Alpha was ready to walk with me and find solutions to all of my concerns. Later I went back to Alpha, but as a staff member and I eventually became the director. I spent almost a decade running that ministry until I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and had to resign. I’ve been going through chemo and radiation treatments since July 2016.
Before I give you an update on my health I want to tell you a story that will explain my perspective on this challenge.*
The day I arrived at my new home in Haiti where I would live for a year, I walked into a house that had been robbed. Everything was gone- furniture, curtains, dishes, everything except the kitchen sink. I had met my roommate for the year one day earlier, Shelley lived in the house the year before and knew our neighbors well. She assured me that since we were back and our neighbors loved her, the house would now be safe and nothing more would be stolen. I didn’t believe her. We had just a couple hours to drop our things off before needing to leave for a meeting at the school where we’d be teaching. On my way out the door for the meeting, I silently prayed, “Lord, if our house gets robbed tonight, please don’t let them take my radio, my guitar, or the vase from Morocco Kellie gave me.”
When we got home that night, our house had been ravished. Clothes were strewn everywhere, Shelley’s nice camera— gone. The sheets off our other roommate’s bed— gone. I made it to my room in the back of the house and did a quick scan of my bedroom: my radio was there, check; my guitar was there, check; my vase— gone! What!? Didn’t God hear my prayer? Why would the thieves want my vase anyway? It was just a small memento that wouldn’t mean anything to anyone but me. My heart sank. I felt robbed. But just as quickly as my heart sank, the Holy Spirit began to speak: “Chastidy, I didn’t bring you here this year to look at that vase. I am the same whether or not that vase is on top of your dresser. I haven’t changed and I am worthy of your praise with or without that vase.” My heart responded, “Oh, check. Yes, Lord, I trust you. I’ll praise you. Thanks for being the same and being good no matter what I’ve lost.” A moment later, a fellow teacher who had come to help walked in the door and said, “I found this on the street, does this belong to you?” and held up my vase.
That small momentary loss and the Holy Spirit speaking to my heart taught me how to get through larger losses that aren’t temporary. When my mom was murdered, when I had multiple miscarriages, when my marriage has been difficult, and many other times of loss I’ve gone back to that moment and remembered God is the same no matter what I might be losing.
To be honest, the months since November have been filled with loss.
My grandfather died because of lung cancer.
Five of my other friends have died as well (three cancer related deaths).
My landlord promised me a bigger apartment and even gave me the keys then changed her mind and took the keys back.
The clinical trial I’ve been on has stopped shrinking my tumors. (More on this below)
But amidst these tragedies there have been some triumphs.
I was given the Gianna Molla award and spoke to 50,000 people.
My daughter turned 3 and sweetly told me I set up her party so nice and perfect.
I turned 40 even though some medical professionals never thought I’d live this long. My husband, family, and friends threw me two surprise birthday parties.
So I find myself responding to all of this in a few ways
Crying out to God in mourning and in thanksgiving.
Praying for others as well as myself.
Singing Amazing Grace and really meaning every word of all 7 verses.
Returning to scripture and asking God to keep His word as the foundation of my heart.
Some of the verses that I’m returning to over and over have become anthems for me that I go to daily to set my heart and mind in the right place.
Hebrews 13.8 Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Reminding me that with or without cancer, God is still worthy of praise. For me, all these efforts to get treatment and extend my life are primarily for my three year old little girl. I don’t want her to have the pain of growing up with out her mom. But, this verse reminds me that God is the same and worthy of our praise even if she does grow up with out a mom.
I also go back to the story of Shadrach Meshach and Abednego from Daniel 3.
You probably remember the story well. Everyone in their town was told to bow down and worship a false god. The punishment for refusing was to be thrown into a fiery furnace. Everyone worshipped the gold statue, but Shadrach Meshach and Abednego refused to follow suit. Some people told the king and he was furious.
Here’s how the Message version of the Bible tells the rest of the story:
The king questioned them and gave them a second chance to obey.
16-18 Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego answered King Nebuchadnezzar, “Your threat means nothing to us. If you throw us in the fire, the God we serve can rescue us from your roaring furnace and anything else you might cook up, O king. But even if he doesn’t, it wouldn’t make a bit of difference, O king. We still wouldn’t serve your gods or worship the gold statue you set up.”
19-23 Nebuchadnezzar, his face purple with anger, cut off Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. He ordered the furnace fired up seven times hotter than usual. He ordered some strong men to tie them up, hands and feet, and throw them into the roaring furnace. Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, bound hand and foot, fully dressed from head to toe, were pitched into the roaring fire. Because the king was in such a hurry and the furnace was so hot, flames from the furnace killed the men who carried Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego to it, while the fire raged around Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego.
24 Suddenly King Nebuchadnezzar jumped up in alarm and said, “Didn’t we throw three men, bound hand and foot, into the fire?”
“That’s right, O king,” they said.
25 “But look!” he said. “I see four men, walking around freely in the fire, completely unharmed! And the fourth man looks like a son of the gods!”
Some people say that is Jesus; I love that even though they were in a literal fire, they weren’t in it alone. They had to go through the fire, but Jesus went through it with them.
26 Nebuchadnezzar went to the door of the roaring furnace and called in, “Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego, servants of the most High God, come out here!”
Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego walked out of the fire.
27 Everyone gathered around to examine them and discovered that the fire hadn’t so much as touched the three men—not a hair singed, not a scorch mark on their clothes, not even the smell of fire on them!
Next the king praises God. Shadrach Meshach and Abednego’s fiery challenge
Gives the king a fiery passion to praise God.
28 Nebuchadnezzar said, “Blessed be the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego! He sent his angel and rescued his servants who trusted in him! They ignored the king’s orders and laid their bodies on the line rather than serve or worship any god but their own.
29 “Therefore I issue this decree: no one should speak against the God of Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego. No other god can pull off a rescue like this.”
Friends, I’m in a battle where I can say— Only God can pull off the kind of rescue I need.
But, I’d bet half my bank account most of you have felt that too. Maybe you’ve had severe health issues, maybe you’ve needed the courage to leave an abusive relationship, maybe you’ve had the sorrow of losing a child, maybe you’ve been plagued with overwhelming anxiety…
I’m guessing that everyone of you have had a time when you thought, “only God can rescue me from this.”
I look back at all those trials I mentioned earlier and see, yes, He jumped into the fire with me on all of them and pulled me out and actually it made me stronger than before. So, right now, in this fire of cancer, I’m looking to the God who has rescued me time and time again and saying “I know you are able to rescue me, and I believe you will, but even if you don’t I will still praise you.”
The final scripture I return to as an anthem I’ve read with you before. Psalm 118.
I’d like to share some of it with you again today
Psalm 118
1 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.
2 Let Israel say:
“His love endures forever.”
3 Let the house of Aaron say:
“His love endures forever.”
4 Let those who fear the Lord say:
“His love endures forever.”
5 When hard pressed, I cried to the Lord;
he brought me into a spacious place.
6 The Lord is with me; I will not be afraid.
What can mere mortals do to me?
7 The Lord is with me; he is my helper.
…
8 It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in humans.
9 It is better to take refuge in the Lord
than to trust in princes.
I’m saying it’s better to trust in the Lord
than medicine or doctors
13 I was pushed back and about to fall,
but the Lord helped me.
14 The Lord is my strength and my defense[a];
he has become my salvation.
15 Shouts of joy and victory
resound in the tents of the righteous:
17 I will not die but live,
and will proclaim what the Lord has done.
21 I will give you thanks, for you answered me;
you have become my salvation.
27 The Lord is God,
and he has made his light shine on us.
…
28 You are my God, and I will praise you;
you are my God, and I will exalt you.
29 Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good;
his love endures forever.
Verse 17 is something I’ve especially clung to.
At first I thought, I will live and not die so that when I am healed from cancer I can tell the miraculous story of how God healed me and what seemed impossible with man is possible with God. And, that is still what I’m counting on.
But, I’ve begun to think I’m alive today. I can tell what God has done today. I can tell you today that He has been with me in the trenches of every fire I’ve had to walk through, and he has used them all for the good of many lives and souls.
And, when I return to scripture it allows me to fix my thoughts on Jesus. He endured the cross scorning its shame for the joy that was set before him. And remembering that He did that, and being bought with his blood gives me the strength to be content in a small apartment, to endure the disease of cancer, and to get through the other pains that come with life in a fallen world but doing so with joy because of the promise of a glorious eternity.
Two nights ago, as I was putting my daughter to bed we were singing “what can wash a way my sins” and she stopped me mid song and said, “Mommy mommy, the blood of Jesus, it can heal everything. Even if you die it can heal you.”
If I could leave you with any thought this morning it would be that. The blood of Jesus can heal anything you have going on in your life. Remember He never changes even when our circumstances do, lay your burdens at the foot of His cross, and let His blood bringing healing to your life.

HEALTH UPDATE
So, what does it mean for me that the clinical trial isn’t shrinking my tumors? To catch some of you up to speed on what I’ve done before I answer that, I’ve already done 3 kinds of chemo and radiation. The clinical trial I’ve been in is my fourth form of treatment. There are no other FDA approved treatments that have been effective at treating my kind of cancer. I have a biopsy scheduled for Thursday. The results of the biopsy will show if the immunotherapy trial I’ve been on has changed the genetic make up of my tumors. If it has I can continue on the trial. If it hasn’t then I’ll need to start searching for other clinical trials or treatments at different hospitals and clinics. My oncologist thinks I’ll have to begin a search for other clinical trials. She is willing to help me. My family might have to move in order for me to continue to have effective treatment options. I’m really hoping that I won’t have to move, but if we do have to move there’s a promising clinical trial in Cleveland that I’m looking into which would get me closer to my family and I’d be thankful for that. Yet, I am willing to go wherever I need to get treatments. I’ll try to write a short update after I get my biopsy results.
Separately I had a chalazion in my eye. It has healed.
OTHER UPDATES
I’m still a super Warriors fan and even though they’ve had a few embarrassing losses recently they are still number 1 in the western conference and still the favorites to be champions this year.
I lead prayer in the SF Prayer Room every Wednesday night from 6-9 pm. I’d love it if you join me some time.
My landlord offered to let us move to a bigger apartment and even gave us the keys. She later changed her mind and took the keys back. I was absolutely heartbroken and cried for days. Now, I’m wondering if God kept us from moving because we might have to move so I can get treatment elsewhere.
We were gifted tickets to see Hamilton and loved it! It left me wanting to live in a way that gives others freedom.
My husband, family, and friends threw me TWO surprise birthday parties. I’ve lived to be 40 and I’m pretty thankful about that.
I threw a small birthday party for Catica. The week after her party she snuggled up on my lap and we had this conversation, C: Mama, you did such a good job. Me: A good job on what, Baby? C: My party. You set everything up so nice and perfect. My heart melted.
PRAYER REQUEST
Please pray for miraculous results to this biopsy and miraculous healing. God is able to do more than we can ask or imagine.

Feature Friday with Garrett Fleming & Aaron Powers
Happy Friday, y’all! This week’s FF is a really special one. Remember when our dream came true earlier this year and our house was featured on Design*Sponge? Well, Garrett was the writer of that beautifully-worded article that so articulately told the story of Thomas’ childhood home, now our home.
Garrett and his boyfriend Aaron discuss meeting on Tindr, and how Garrett’s battle with cancer brought them closer together in a pretty short amount of time. We enjoyed getting to know them, and we think you will, too. Take a look below…
Where are you from? Garrett’s from Arlington, TX, and Aaron is from Detroit, MI.
Where do you live? We live a little north of the gay-borhood in Chicago, IL.
Instagram handle? @insta__gare and @aaronpwrz
Age: Garrett’s 30, and Aaron’s 33.
On their favorite trip together: Aaron: I’m not sure I could pick just one! Mexico City for the people, Italy for the culture and paninis or San Francisco for the first time I said “I love you” to Gare.
Garrett: I agree, Aar. It’s too hard to choose! I’d have to say San Francisco because it was our first trip together.
“I remember thinking, ‘Am I going to be stood up? Is he going to be a total kook?’ Spoiler alert: Aaron did in fact show up and was just enough of a kook. He was and will forever be my complement.”
On the uncertain, initial meeting: Garrett: We met on Tindr, and our first date was at a local spot called Uncommon Ground.
Aaron: I initially thought Garrett had photoshopped his Tindr photos to enhance his eyes. Although an adorable baby photo led me to believe he really was that doe-eyed, seeing him approach as I sat perched upon the edge of a flower pot was confirmation! I even texted a girlfriend “He’s real!” as we were seated at our table.
Garrett: I remember seeing Aar sitting on that flower pot and feeling a rush of relief. I hadn’t met up with anyone from Tindr before, so I was as little anxious. Beforehand, I remember thinking, “Am I going to be stood up? Is he going to be a total kook?” Spoiler alert: Aaron did in fact show up and was just enough of a kook. He was and will forever be my complement.
On taking the leap: Aaron: We were on a layover heading to San Francisco on our first trip together. I had just kicked back a crummy airport manhattan as we waited in a quiet corner of the terminal. Then I just said it. It felt right, so I took the leap
Garrett: I had no idea when the right time would be. Aar’s my first serious boyfriend, so I’d never told anyone that before. Before the trip, I recall telling my friends I was anxious I’d blurt it out on accident. Luckily, he brought it up before I could worry too much. Saved again by Aar!
On fighting with each other: Aaron: We’ve honestly never had a fight. Yes, we’ve debated over paint colors and upholstery once or twice, but it’s never been close to a fight!
Garrett: Never close at all. I never understood my friends who were in “love hard, fight hard” relationship. One of the things I cherish about Aar and I’s relationship is its consistency. After three years together we know how one another ebbs and flows. We’ve found the balance.
On their coming out experiences: Garrett: My family was very supportive and kind. No backlash here!
Aaron: I came out first to my brother when I was about 18. After a couple months of keeping the secret, I began to get a little gutsy with my escapades and spent one too many dinners away from home in a row. I grew up very close to family, so the distance caused some frustration with my mom. After some pressure, my brother caved and told her I was out with a gay friend. The next few weeks weren’t the most fun, but my immediate family eventually came around. They’re very supportive now. I look back on the experience as one of my contributions to destigmatizing homosexuality.
On life not going according to plan: Garrett: I was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma in the spring of 2016. Halfway through my chemotherapy, a few spots in my pelvis turned out to be colon cancer as well. In the end they were unrelated, totally random and no cause was ever found. For 11 months I received intensive chemotherapy, received over 100 shots, five spinal taps, had four near-death experiences, lost all my hair and had every type of infection you can get. I’m healthy now though!
On how cancer affected their relationship: Garrett: I like to say it put our relationship into overdrive. We had only been dating 10 months when I was diagnosed, and it made us skip right to the real stuff. I spent about 50% of that year living in the hospital, so we weren’t able to do many fun things. We did have a lot of time for just the two of us, though, so we really got to know one another on a deeper level. Looking back, I’m so grateful for this. I feel so deeply connected to Aaron having gone through this with him, and it’s helped us put the other stresses of life into perspective.
Aaron: If anything, it brought us closer. Watching someone fight for their life provides one with a unique look at a person’s true character. We faced difficult decisions together and had to quickly adapt our routines to a new way of life. Doing this makes you understand what’s truly important in life. I don’t know that I’ve met a person more courageous, loving or level headed than Garrett.
On what he learned about himself during this process: Garrett: I learned more about how I process pain. I could no longer be the guy who bottled things up and waited until the feelings passed. Instead I had to work through all of my feelings in the moment, as it wasn’t good for my recovery to be pent up. I also learned how to best communicate with Aar. We both process things, deal with stress and approach problem solving in very different ways. And an extreme medical diagnosis puts all of that on display.
On their proudest accomplishments: Garrett: By far, I am most proud of how I handled myself during those 11 months. Getting into remission was my full-time job (whether I liked it or not.) Before I was sick, I had gone seven years without needing so much as a prescription. That being said, being told out the blue that I had a life-threatening illness could have really torn me apart. While every day was a battle, I’m most proud that I came out the other end maintaining the positive outlook I had going in.
Aaron: I ran the Chicago Marathon the year Gare and I met. I had never been an athletic person before beginning training in May, and I had certainly never run more than a mile at a time. It was the first time I had been disciplined enough to finish something so huge outside of work projects in my adult life! I trained on my own with the help of a friend for the first half of the summer but completed training and the marathon on my own. The feeling as you approach the last leg of the race, body numb yet burning in pain at the same time, is so overwhelming. Tears began to stream down my face as I crossed the finish line. It was absolutely incredible!
On who they look up to the most: Aaron: My parents. My mom went back to school when my siblings and I were still in elementary school. Watching her work so hard to raise us kids, work part time and still find time to study showed me what hard work and determination looks like. My dad was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease about 15 years ago. Despite the frustration I can sometimes see on his face, my dad has continued to be the most patient person I know. He still works full time to this day. His perseverance is something I hope to inherit.
Garrett: My family is by far my greatest inspiration. Right when I was diagnosed we had a meeting where we acknowledged how hard getting me into remission would be. We gave each other a free pass for a year: We could say and do anything without fear of hurting one another’s feelings as we processed all of the daily ups and downs that were to come. While we would have acted this way no matter what, verbally acknowledging it made it feel that much more ok. And sure enough, once I was in remission, all was forgiven and forgotten.

“Doctors Predicted I Would
Die With Fatty Liver
. But Contrarily to their Prediction, I Reversed My Fatty Liver Easily, Permanently & In Just Days. I’ll Show You!”
Dear Friend,
Did you know that the most common disease in the world is something most of us haven’t even heard of, yet it affects a whopping 2.1 BILLION PEOPLE?
That means there’s a 1 in 3 chance that
YOU have it.
So if you value your health, I’d suggest that you take a few moments to answer the following questions:
Do you often feel tired or weak?
Do you sometimes experience back pain, abdominal pain or lower torso discomfort?
Do you ever feel nauseous or suffer from a loss of appetite?
Does your skin or the whites of your eyes appear yellowish in color?
Do you binge drink, or drink alcohol on a regular basis?
Are you overweight and struggling to shift those excess pounds?
Have you noticed a patchy, dark skin discoloration, usually on the neck or underarm area?
Do you have bad skin, and just don’t know why?
Do you ever suffer from abdominal pains and cramping?
Do you suffer from headaches, or experience confusion, impaired judgment, or have trouble concentrating?
Do you always feel hungry, and as a result, are constantly snacking on sugary or starchy foods?
And finally…
Do you have a general feeling of ill health, and can’t figure out what it might be?
If you answered “YES” to any of those questions, then you’re exactly in the right place…
Because you could be suffering from the effects of a “FATTY LIVER”
And if you don’t do anything about it now, you could end up with a much higher chance of contracting fatal diseases like cirrhosis of the liver, heart attacks, stroke, diabetes and cancer.
And don’t think I’m saying any of this to scare you…
“Here Are the Facts about Fatty Liver”
“Fatty liver” has become increasingly common in recent years due to the rising levels of obesity in the world.
As I’ve already stated, it now affects more than 2.1 BILLION PEOPLE.
That’s 1/3 of the entire world population!
So why is this so important to your health, and your life?
Well, what might surprise you is that your liver is the second most important organ in your body – after the brain.
It performs an incredible 800+ functions, including:
Eliminating toxins from the body, like environmental pollutants, food additives, dead cells, alcohol, etc.
Producing bile, which helps carry away waste and break down fats
Storing and releasing glucose for energy
Clearing the blood of harmful substances
Resisting infections and removing bacteria from the bloodstream
Clearing bilirubin (if there is a build-up of bilirubin, the skin and eyes turn yellow)
And much more, including regulating glucose, blood pressure, blood sugar, insulin, estrogen, testosterone, the immune system, and blood cholesterol production.
So what does this mean?
Quite simply, it means that if your liver isn’t functioning at 100%, you have ZERO chance of being healthy.
And that’s because a fatty liver causes INFLAMMATION, which impairs your liver’s ability to carry out its 800+ jobs in your body.
The more your liver is impaired, the unhealthier you become, and the more likely you are to contract a wide range of life-threatening diseases, such as liver failure, heart attacks, stroke, diabetes, cancer, and much more.
That’s the simple and harsh truth.
“If There’s
ONE
Organ You Should Be Looking After, It’s Your
LIVER!
”
But most of us don’t.
In fact, the typical modern diet – which is full of processed foods, chemicals, sugar and alcohol – has led to alarming rates of obesity, and is the #1 reason for the surge in cases of “fatty liver”.
Essentially, your liver becomes full of fat, inflamed and enlarged, and can no longer do its job properly.
So instead of your liver clearing out toxins, it starts to POISON you.
Instead of breaking down fats and assisting your metabolism, it begins to STORE FAT, making it virtually impossible to lose weight.
Instead of clearing your blood of harmful substances, it allows them to THRIVE & MULTIPLY.
In short, your fatty liver is robbing you of your health and making it virtually impossible for you to lose weight, feel great and enjoy your life.
BUT HERE’S THE GOOD NEWS!
Fatty liver is reversible in almost 99% of cases.
“And Today, I’m Going to Show You An
ALL-NATURAL
Way to
REVERSE
the Damaging Effects of a Fatty Liver, So You Can Lose Weight, Feel Great and Look Years Younger!”
You’ll finally be able to…
REVERSE inflammation and damage to your liver. If left unchecked it could lead to a range of diseases, including liver cancer or cirrhosis (sufferers of these conditions have an extremely low life expectancy)…
Turn your body into a fat-burning furnace and LOSE WEIGHT quickly and effortlessly (your liver is the key to losing weight, and once you unlock the door, the pounds will melt away easily)…
Eradicate your health problems at the SOURCE (the fact is, many of your health complaints right now can be put down to a poorly-performing liver. Get your liver working correctly, and your health will dramatically improve)…
Give your liver the Ultimate DETOX and eliminate the build-up of dangerous toxins that are ruining your health…
Lower your risk of contracting life-threatening diseases such as heart attacks, stroke, diabetes, cancer, cirrhosis of the liver, and more – and Add YEARS to your life expectancy…
Get CLEARER, SMOOTHER SKIN by removing toxins from your liver, and get rid of patchy, dark skin discolorations too…
Increase vitality and ENERGY levels, and feel like a teenager once again!
Eliminate “brain fog” and improve MENTAL CLARITY and concentration…
DEFEAT DEPRESSION and enjoy a renewed zest for life (going through life feeling tired, weak and lacking in energy is one of the major causes of depression)…
Improve your SLEEP and feel energized and invigorated every morning…
Finally put an end to bloating, cramps and abdominal PAIN…
Save thousands of dollars on drugs, painkillers and other medication, which are merely “masking” the symptoms of your ill health, but doing NOTHING to fix the cause.
That’s right…
“It’s Time to Stop Wasting Time & Money Treating the Symptoms of Your Ill Health & Finally Fix the Cause – Your Fatty Liver”
Hi, my name is Layla Jeffrey and I’m a Nutritionist, Author and Expert on the subject of Fatty Liver.
Back in 2009, and at just 36 years of age, I was suffering from very poor health.
I’d recently been diagnosed with depression because every day had become a struggle for me, and I wasn’t enjoying life at all.
I was constantly tired and sluggish, and finding it increasingly difficult to concentrate on my day job.
I was stressed-out, irritable and struggling to sleep, which then made things even worse.
My skin – which had been blemish free through my entire life was now starting to breakout relentlessly, and whatever I did, I couldn’t seem to get it under control.
And as the months and years went by, my symptoms just got worse and worse…
I started to develop cramps and pain in my lower back and abdomen, which really started to worry me.
After visiting many different Doctors, I was eventually diagnosed with a “fatty liver”, or to be more precise, Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatisis (NASH).
“The Different Types of
Fatty Liver Disease
”
After some research, I found that Fatty Liver Disease can be categorized as Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (AFLD), Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD) or Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatisis (NASH).
All 3 include a range of conditions from simple “steatosis” (a fatty infiltration of the liver tissue which can interfere with your health), to cirrhosis (an irreversible and potentially fatal build-up of scar tissue in the liver).
Although NAFLD and NASH are similar to Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease, people who contract these diseases (like me) drink little or no alcohol, yet it can still lead to permanent liver damage, cancer and liver-related death.
Plus, all people with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease have an increased risk of developing cardiovascular problems such as heart attacks and stroke.
According to recent statistics, Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Diseases are becoming more and more common. In fact, it’s estimated that up to 35% of the entire world population may have either fatty liver or NASH.
And the primary reason is the modern diet.
You see, in my case, the cause of my Fatty Liver wasn’t what I was drinking…
“It Was What I Was
EATING
”
My diet had caused my Fatty Liver, and it was slowly killing me.
In fact, my Doctor told me that the patterns in my liver enzyme levels indicated that if I didn’t do anything to reverse the damage, my chances of developing liver cancer or deadly cirrhosis within the next 5 years were over 70%.
I was terrified, but as I soon discovered, he wasn’t exaggerating.
After looking into Fatty Liver Diseases a little more, I found that a clinical study, conducted in Norway on 47,594 people with fatty liver, concluded that it INCREASES THE RISK OF CANCER.
And not just liver cancer either – lung cancer, stomach cancer, pancreatic cancer, colon cancer, oesophageal cancer, and more.
It was clear to me that my diet was ruining my health and putting my life in danger, and I had to do something about it – AND FAST.
“How I
Reversed My Fatty Liver,
Lost 32 lbs & Added Years To My Life Expectancy!”
To begin with, my Doctor told me that the main thing I needed to do was lose some weight…
And he was right…
After all, studies show that 70% of people with fatty liver are OBESE.
However, he gave me absolutely no advice or guidance about what I should or shouldn’t be eating!
After an entire year of trying and failing to lose weight and improve my health, and after seeing multiple Doctors who didn’t seem to know anything about how to cure my condition, there was only one option left…
“I had to fix the problem
myself!
”
I decided to take a course in NUTRITION and learn what I needed to do to reverse my fatty liver and reclaim my health.
I’d always been interested in the subject, and my desperation to improve my health and lose weight naturally and safely had given me the motivation I needed to do it.
After 3 years of studying, where I paid particular attention to the liver, my health improved dramatically, and I lost 32 lbs, with barely any effort at all.
And this was because during my studies, I discovered that the liver plays an ABSOLUTELY CRUCIAL ROLE in weight loss.
One of your liver’s main jobs is to break down fat and turn it into energy, but when it’s not functioning properly, it simply can’t handle the excess fat and sugar coming at it, which results in fat piling up in all the wrong places all over your body.
This makes the task of losing weight
almost impossible.
This is why your diets have failed.
It’s like pouring water into a bucket, only to discover that there’s a bunch of massive holes in the bottom!
So if you have a fatty liver which isn’t functioning properly, you can’t lose weight.
And you can’t lose weight because you have a fatty liver!
It’s a Catch 22 situation, and most Doctors simply don’t have the nutritional knowledge and training to solve it.
“BUT THERE IS A SOLUTION – AND IT’S
100% NATURAL!
”
I created and followed my very own program for reversing my fatty liver, and the results were STUNNING:
I was full of ENERGY & VITALITY.
I was SLEEPING SOUNDLY and waking bright-eyed and eager to begin the day.
I was ALERT & FOCUSED at work, with no trouble concentrating. (In fact, I received a promotion and a pay rise within 6 months of starting my Nutrition course!)
My skin became CLEARER, SMOOTHER & BLEMISH-FREE again, which transformed my confidence levels and self-esteem.
The whites of my eyes returned to their normal, HEALTHY COLOR.
And after seeing me bound into his room with a big smile on my face and bundles of energy, my Doctor agreed that I NO LONGER NEEDED ANTI-DEPRESSANTS!
In fact…
“When I Returned to See My Doctor,
He Couldn’t Believe His Eyes!”
Not only did I look like a different person on the outside, but on the INSIDE too!!
My liver enzyme levels had returned to normal, my liver was free from inflammation and back to its happy self, and I literally hadn’t felt better in my entire life.
And that got me thinking…
Now that I had the experience and knowledge to REVERSE MY OWN CASE OF FATTY LIVER, lose weight quickly and dramatically improve my health at the same time, I wanted to help other people too… people just like me who were scared, confused and frustrated by their Doctor’s lack of knowledge about HOW to actually go about fixing the problem.
So I decided to put everything I’d learned about my Fatty Liver and how to reverse it into an easy-to-follow, step-by-step program.
Then I started sharing it with fellow fatty liver sufferers all over the world.
And every single one of them experienced incredible results.
AND NOW YOU CAN BENEFIT TOO!

“I’ve never felt better”
“I was diagnosed with Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease 4 years ago and it absolutely terrified me. I drank regularly, but I had no idea how much it had affected my liver, and how important my liver actually was to my health. Thanks to your program I’ve been able to reverse the damage I caused and I’ve never felt better. Thank you so much!”
David Masterson, 42 – Pretoria, S.A.
“You are a Life Saver!”
“Layla, I just wanted to say thank you for what you have done for me. Your advice and guidance have been life-changing. I was depressed, overweight and suffering terribly before my husband found your website and bought your program for me. I have never had an official diagnosis of fatty liver but after the improvements I’ve seen, I’m pretty sure that was it! I’ve followed your program to the letter and now I feel so much better. You are a LIFE SAVER!”
Brenda Montgomery, 40 – East Fife, Scotland
“My liver function has improved beyond belief”
“Your program has put all of my Docs to shame. I have had NASH for 7 years and I honestly thought there was nothing I could do about it – but only because my Doctors have been so useless. All they did was put me on a variety of different medication. I’m so glad I found your website before it was too late. I have not only lost weight, but my liver function has improved beyond belief which has had a massive (and very positive) effect on my overall health.”
Gary Sayers, 47 – Toledo, US
“The difference has been amazing”
“I was told I had Non-Alcoholic Steatohepatisis. The advice and help out there are almost non-existent so I struggled to understand what I needed to do. Your program has made everything so much easier. Not only do I now understand my condition and what caused it, but I know EXACTLY what I need to do to make myself better. I have already seen a great improvement to my health.”
Guan-yin Huáng, Bradford, UK

Thanks to your program the transformation in my health has been nothing short of a miracle. I not only feel 100 times better, but I barely need to take any insulin at all anymore. Rant
Tumblr rants and raves about a lot of things. We can go on and on about just about anything. But one thing we never talk about is alcoholism.
In fact, we grow up in a world that is so unconcerned with alcoholism that we boast about how much we’ve had to drink and do drunk ask nights and we talk about how young we start.
As a child of an alcoholic, I just... it bothers me how much society as a whole, around the world, loves alcohol. So take it from me what alcoholism does.
According to the National Institute of Alcoholism, in the U.S. alone, more than ten percent of children live with a parent with alcohol problems. About 17 million U.S. adults over 18 have or had an alcohol disorder. Nearly 80,000 people in the U.S. die from alcohol consumption daily. In 2012, over ten thousand deaths came from alcohol-induced driving. According to the Centers for Disease Control, in 2006, alcohol accounted for almost $224 billion. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
Little Darling grew up in Reno, Nevada—1,628 miles away from Denton, Texas. She was raised by a native Texan and a native Coloradoan, along with her older sister. Her childhood, while eclectic and interesting, she wouldn’t change for the world. But once seventh grade started… almost every moment she wanted to change. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
“Intoxication can impair brain function and motor skills,” states the NIH. No eight and ten-year-old should have to know that. A ten-year-old should not scream at her mother that she can fix Dad. No mother should yell back that he can’t be fixed. No ten-year-old should say, “Maybe, I can fix him.” No mother should whisper, “He’s beyond repair.” No eight-year-old should listen, all while watching their father sit in a chair, eyes glazed over and head lolling. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
“Alcoholism is a diagnosable disease characterized by a strong craving for alcohol, and/or continued use despite harm or personal injury,” the NIH says. No eight-year-old should be dragged out of class and told her father is in the hospital suffering from a heart attack. No eight-year-old should ask her mom what gall bladder surgery is. No eight-year-old should tug on their sister’s arm and ask if colon cancer can kill someone. No eleven-year-old should look up what lupus anticoagulant syndrome is. No twelve-year-old should worry about her father’s diabetes. No fifteen-year-old should listen to her mother tell her that Dad had a stroke. No seventeen-year-old should worry that her father’s diabetes may be killing him. No eighteen-year-old should count how much alcohol their father’s consumed. No twenty-year-old should wonder if alcohol is killing their dad and if he’s even going to live to his next birthday. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
The NIH states, “Alcohol abuse, which can lead to alcoholism, is a pattern of drinking that results in harm to one’s health, interpersonal relationships or ability to work.” In 2007, Richard Michael Strider was laid off from the Eureka Chemical Company because he was considered too old. He had already suffered lung embolisms, a heart attack, gall bladder surgery, colon cancer and a blood-clotting disorder. But being laid off nearly brought him to his knees. He eventually got his teaching license and went back to work, but he was not the same man he once was. His youngest, his number two, noticed. Richard was her rock; someone she could tell anything, but he pulled away. She no longer felt like Dad’s Little Darling. Alcohol seemed to have replaced her. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
In 2011, Mary Jane Strider graduated from Ryder High School and left to attend Trident University in San Angeles. Little Darling lost her new rock, her safeguard, her guardian angel, her protector and even her hero. Little Darling withdrew into herself, while still trying to express her extroverted self to the outside world. Anger became the dominate emotion. Sarcasm and cynicism became the main aspects of her personality. Sure, some of it stemmed from the brutal, often cruel, comments from her peers or all the crap that seemed to get piled on her. Most of it came from inside that twisted mind that saw more than most people thought. Part of it came from her safeguards leaving her. Little Darling was too similar to Mom to try to talk to her about anything. Reading and soccer became her outlets. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
After Richard had his stroke, it really did seem like everything changed. His Little Darling threw herself into school, soccer and reading to avoid watching her father “self-medicate.” Between the alcohol and pills he had to take, she was overly worried. At times, she hated going home, fearing verbal abuse or Mom trying to talk about the “disease.” It seemed most conversations with Mom would be superficial or centered on Dad’s problem. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
In an AP European history class, Little Darling found the most amazing escape. It was better than soccer or reading. With writing, she felt in control. The Understood was her passion. But Little Darling’s life was never really perfect. While she did not want for much or have a major problem, life still seemed to like to bite her in the ass. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
Soccer was one of her dreams… a small escape from her hectic life. She had the brain for the game and despite her small stature, she was quick and had a powerful kick. Then a small tragedy (in her mind) happened. Her right knee was destroyed. Running hurt and cutting was unbearable. In one tiny fucking moment, a passion was ripped from her and so was another connection to her father. It felt like she was thrust back under her sister’s shadow. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
Just when Little Darling felt like she’d come to terms with never being able to play soccer again, things seemed to shatter. Dad drank more, and Mom worked more. Mary Jane was so happy and Little Darling? She felt like she was suffocating. To top off her sophomore year, a stalker emerged. A ten-page love letter, countless texts/Facebook messages, a joking sister, an overbearing mother and a father who didn’t seem to give a shit only contributed to the growing anger in Little Darling. It seemed insurmountable, and it only got worse the more Richard continued to drink. Nothing got through to him. Beer after beer, and it often started at ten in the morning. His wife, Jennifer, told Little Darling to catch him in the morning before the not-quite-Dad became the reality. Alcoholic father or stalker? Did it matter anymore? “You’re either going to be alcoholic or marry one?”
The further junior year progressed, the more Little Darling noticed. She noticed the increased working hours of her mother, the increased drinking of her father, the increased demands of her stalker, the increased pressures from college and her own damned increased anger. A wall was up between her and the world, only a select few seeing the genuine girl beneath. Alone in her room with a journal and a pen was her escape from her reality. The drinking only got worse. Her stalker only got worse, leading to court. Her anger only got worse. Her mother kept offering to go to Al-Anon meetings, to see Dr. Nielsen or to get checked for depression. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
Is there ever a moment in your life that brings everything to a head? The summer between Little Darling’s junior and senior year did just that. She was with some of her best friends at a volunteer event, finally carefree after the stalker issues had been handled. A phone call from Dad changed that. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
“You need to come home right now. Something is wrong with Mom.” Words she thought would be said by her mother, completely flipped her world around. The two minute car drive seemed like an eternity, even when she was practically flooring it. The three bedroom house felt huge as she tore it apart trying to find her parents. Sitting on the back patio, clutching an empty bottle of vodka and a handful of pills was her iron-willed mother. And there was Dad, asking oh-so-calmly if she had taken any of those damned pills. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
Tears cascaded down Little Darling’s face. Her mom wanted to die. Anger and hatred warred inside her, aimed at her parents. Was it her fault that Dad wouldn’t stop drinking and Mom wanted to die? A seventeen-year-old had to figure out if her mother had taken any pills and what had caused her to do it. Her fiery blue eyes met the muted brown ones… what had he done? In that moment, he wasn’t her father. He was just a damned alcoholic. Two hours later and a panicked phone call to her savior, Aunt Carol, Little Darling called her hero. Mary Jane then chewed out Dad. She didn’t know half the shit that had gone on since she had left, just the small snippets from her breaks. Her dad often said, “Our family is open about our dysfunction.” Those words never felt more wrong. To make matters worse, the next day, they acted like it had never happened. But Little Darling knew. It was not something she’d soon forget. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
Little Darling bottled up her anger. Her senior year became a rather larger burden to carry: We the People, track, college, finding scholarships and her dysfunctional family. Some days were better than others but being in that house still hurt. The drinking would get worse and then better and then worse again, and it often felt like she had aged fifteen years in a few short months. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
She stopped inviting her Dad to school functions. She stopped inviting her friends over to the house, afraid her once tolerant father would embarrass her. His drinking had more than successfully pushed her away—1,628 miles away. People always ask her why she chose the school she did. The answer is pretty simple. She loves Texas, she’s close to her family, one of her aunt’s is an alumni and they have an incredible journalism program. But more than part of the truth is, it got her away from the toxicity of his drinking. It is far enough away without being too far from her friends and sister. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
I am not the only one affected by alcoholism, and if some mild verbal abuse is the worst I get, I’m happy. I’ve been to a few Al-Anon meetings; most kids have two alcoholic parents and are on their way to becoming one. Money goes to booze, they were physically abused and some even live in poverty. What more can I say? Mom always says it’s a disease. I get it; I always have. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
It may not seem like a big deal to a lot of people, but to those who have experienced it, it is torture. It feels like a life or death moment, more often than not. We go through life not entirely sure if one day to the next it’ll change, and they’ll finally accept help. It affects everyone around us. It’s terrifying and almost feels like a fat man is sitting on our chests. Yet, we can’t escape it. It’s in our dreams, and it’s in our genes. It literally feels like it’s everywhere. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
The question now is: how does this affect society? Look at the statistics on alcoholism. People binge drink and start doing so at earlier and earlier ages. Prohibition didn’t stop it and an age limit doesn’t either. People drink, and I understand that. But when a couple of drinks with friends turns into a couple of more drinks alone, there’s a serious problem. When you start drinking at ten in the morning, there’s a problem. The solution isn’t easy, and there may not even be one. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
The government has tried and failed to implement restrictions on alcohol and frighteningly, underage drinking has gone up, instead of decreasing. So what do we do about it? My university and other colleges such as the one in my hometown have started alcohol education programs for incoming freshmen. While these programs are informative and mandatory, it doesn’t prevent underage drinking. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
High schools often bring in survivors or parents of drunk driving accidents, but that just scares us into not drinking and driving. The sad truth is that the U.S. tiptoes around the very word “alcoholism.” They often make jokes about it. I’ve seen shirts that say, “I’m not an alcoholic; they go to meetings.” Parents don’t educate their children on it, and there’s something wrong with that. I honestly don’t think there’s any easy fix to the problem. However, I do suggest we find a way to do something about it. In health classes, there needs to be a section devoted to alcohol abuse. Colleges need to implement something other than an online course (maybe a mandatory meeting at orientations), and parents need to start to take an initiative on educating their kids. Seventeen million alcoholics are in the U.S., and there’s not a whole lot we’re doing to stop it. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
Society tends to look at issues and come to the conclusion that laws will fix them. The U.S. has the all-or-nothing mentality a lot of the time. The few laws banning and restricting alcohol don’t seem to work. I’m not saying we set a cap on how much a person consumes or what they’re allowed to do with their lives. Somehow, in some way, we need to make alcoholism more prevalent than “don’t drink and drive.” It’s become such a joke to people. AA doesn’t seem like it works for many individuals. The fact is when I’ve seen shirts, jokes and mugs all mocking it, something is truly wrong. Alcoholism has become something to laugh at and about. It’s almost like, “Oh! That’s your worst problem. Well, I have this, that and the other. I’m much worse off than you and your alcohol thing.” Until you’ve lived with someone who is slowly killing themselves, you shouldn’t say a damn thing. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
I keep coming back to how we can fix this problem. The terrifying truth is… we can’t. Much like with any other social issue, the first step is having the alcoholics heal themselves. And the truth is, most do not want to do even that. We cannot help those who do not want to be helped. Maybe, the biggest change will come with the children of alcoholics. But so far, we do not see that. Many of these children become alcoholics themselves or cannot get away from other alcoholics. And now, I watch my sister drink excessively and wonder if she’ll be like him. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
As I sit in front of my computer, trying to solve this issue, I know that I can’t. We can continue to make children aware of alcohol abuse, but nothing is going to stop it. As for myself? I know I won’t underage drink… I may never drink. It’s on both sides of my family, and I’ve watched it slowly tear my family apart. “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
Moving 1,628 miles away doesn’t absolve me of the problem. It’s still there. It’s still here, inside of me. Awareness may be the first step to solving this horrible problem. Because, honestly, no eight-year-old, no twelve-year-old, no fourteen, fifteen, sixteen, seventeen, eighteen, nineteen or twenty-year-old should have their mom tell them, “You’re either going to be an alcoholic or marry one.”
Maybe, I will, but it’s my turn to decide what I will do with my life. I’m not surrounded by the alcohol abuse anymore. I’m not told day in and day out about being or marrying one. Maybe, I’ll change the way we view alcoholism. The solution is to break from the mold, be aware what “disease” you carry and learn the steps to prevent it. Because I am not an alcoholic, and I refuse to marry one.

What happens when a person "dies by aging"?
Gizmodo Japan
What happens when a person "dies by aging"?
What happens when a person "dies by aging"?
If I couldn't die.
Some people are trying to solve the problem of "death." They, when they succeed, may remind me when I was 900 years old to re-read this sentence and miss how I wasted the first 100 years of my life, Daniel Kolitz of Gizmodo. The reporter writes.
However, even if it is resolved someday, tens of thousands and hundreds of millions of people will still die. Some will die of illness, while others will die of an accident. Some people die by the so-called "aging".
While I was playing Hinatabo on the porch, I took a breath before I knew-"I die of old age" has a much more calm image than other deaths.
But what does it really mean to be old and die?
The "Giz Asks" series, where experts answer all questions. This time, we asked four people what it means to "die due to old age".
Body wear, illness impairs physical activity and leads to death
Elizabeth Dzeng (Assistant Professor, School of Medicine, University of California, San Francisco)
"Dying due to old age" is an expression often used around us. However, in reality, no one died of "aging". There is always a leading or new illness that causes death. It is unlikely that a death certificate will say "age". Thus, apart from the cause of death, heart failure due to some infectious disease, underlying disease such as heart attack or cancer is more likely.
For example, when a blood clot develops in the lungs, it becomes unable to send sufficient oxygen to the brain and body, resulting in heart failure. In this case, it does not matter whether the person is young or old. Illness and the symptoms caused by the illness interfere with the physical activity of the body, leading to death.
However, the same illness can cause different symptoms in older people. As we get older, our bodies wear and get damaged. So you can't fight illness as you did when you were young. Of course, a young person can and will die of a heart attack or pulmonary thromboembolism in the same way. However, older people have different body reactions to illness.
Let's take pneumonia as an example. Older patients may not have the initial symptoms that are usually present during infection. If the patient has diabetes, they may develop symptoms of hyperglycemia, and if they have dementia, they may have unstable psychological states or suddenly lose their ability to do what they normally do. .. Even if such symptoms occur in an elderly patient, it is difficult to immediately determine the pathology that causes them.
There are people on the street who want to die while sleeping, but this is a phenomenon that cannot be limited to a specific pathology. People who take their breath while asleep may just have their cancer and infections worsen while they sleep, rather than by chance.
Another important thing is that people with extremely serious medical conditions, such as end-stage cancer and congestive heart failure, may choose a more “natural death”. Rather than receiving active treatment at the hospital, they may choose palliative care to help ease their suffering.
Die with terrible pain, that's a natural death
Jessica Humphreys (Assistant Professor, School of Medicine, University of California, San Francisco, specializes in palliative care)
People often say, "When I grow old, I want to die while sleeping." But all people die the same way. The heart stops. That is the end.
When you write a death certificate, you must write down the cause of death, but rewind to the fact that pulmonary thrombosis occurred before cardiopulmonary arrest and cancer was diagnosed before that. I will. For the students I took care of, what was the cause of death in this way? What happened before that? I ask you to ask.
As a doctor specializing in palliative care, all the patients I am in charge of have serious illnesses and many are nearing death. My job is to explain the process leading to death to the patient and then help them survive that process.
The word "nature" makes you feel calm. If the death process is "natural," you don't have to be aware of it or think about it. But in reality, the process of death rarely goes "naturally" in this way. A healthy person with no medical history suffers from a sudden heart attack for one night's sleep. This is extremely rare. (Although the phrase "die while sleeping" is often used, I didn't see the person directly up close to see if he actually died while sleeping, or if he was awake when he died. As far as it goes, it's very difficult to judge.)
A typical example of "natural death" in the United States is as follows. Someone will find some health problem and treat you to improve it. The treatment that tries to alleviate the suffering as much as possible and keep lives alive is void, and eventually it will turn into a losing battle. There is a change of direction, and the emphasis is on how to spend the best time to the end.
Only one supplement. I have a lot of work in Uganda and India, but I felt that "natural death" is very painful and extremely painful in most countries of the world. In most parts of the world, powerful analgesics like opioids are unavailable. In a sense, dying “naturally” for humans means dying in great pain. So we must strive to eliminate that suffering as much as possible.
"Risk" increases
David Casarett (Professor, Duke University School of Medicine, Chief of Palliative Care. Author of "Shocked: Adventures in Bringing Back the Recently Dead" and many others)
Want to die due to old age? …It's impossible.
It is a popular idea that many people want, because it is a beautiful view like a picture, and it is a common wisdom that "dieing due to aging" is a popular idea. Many of my patients are aiming for it. Just like a downhill skier who draws a slalom, he vividly avoids one life-threatening pathology, and avoids heart failure, prostate cancer, pneumonia, and eventually the new coronavirus. Everything is hoping to eventually die peacefully by "aging".
However, it is impossible to die of old age. As I get older, my heart beats slowly, and finally late last night I can't stop. Aging increases the risk of illnesses such as cancer and dementia, some of which can be fatal. However, aging itself did not cause death.
My grandmother passed Tianju at the age of 103. Although my body weakened with age, my sharpness was still alive until the end, and I could read through one book a day. I was so pinsching that I read the novel I wrote to the end.
Such grandmother did not die of old age. Due to aging and frailty, the risk of hip fracture increased, and in fact, he did. Although he survived the high-risk surgery in a very good condition, he finally entered the demon register due to a seizure.
It is true that he was physically and psychologically exceptionally healthy, and although he died at a very old age, his grandmother did not die due to old age. Her cause of death was a series of unfortunate events that happened to occur in quick succession, putting her older body at greater risk.
Here comes an interesting question. What cause do you want to die for? If you are sensitive to your cholesterol, you may not have a heart attack, and if you are eating raw vegetables, you may not have colon cancer. If you're away from cigarettes you probably won't have emphysema, but what could be the cause of death? What will remain? (I am grateful to my teacher, Dr. Joanne Lynn, for asking this question 20 years ago. I have not reached a personal conclusion yet.)
Where do we go after all the deadly illnesses that modern society throws at us? One answer to that question would be my grandmother. She lived right. He maintained a healthy lifestyle and kept a gentle and gentle temper regardless of the ups and downs of his emotions. All her way of life was right, but the right way of life is effective only to some extent. Eventually life takes the lead, causing falls, heart attacks, pneumonia and death.
Let's add one more thing. I said that I wouldn't die of old age, but it's not uncommon to die of old age. This difference should be well borne in mind.
Many people who live to old age maintain their mental and physical functions until they die. And many-maybe most-fall asleep and suddenly die. Of course, if you were in your twenties, you wouldn't want to reach this end. It's too sudden and I don't have time to prepare.
But if you've been living on this earth for a century, and if you had one or two frightening near-death experiences before, and you're ready to say goodbye I think it's probably a good thing to die while sleeping.
That's probably the biggest difference between people who have succeeded in natural life and those who did not. People who live up to their 90s are not afraid of death. Because I have done everything I have done, and I have done everything I have to say. It may have been ready for many years.
As a palliative care specialist, the older you are, the less likely you will be to flutter at the end, the less likely you are to seek aggressive treatment or long and painful chemotherapy. Accept death and die quickly. If something means "dying in old age," it means that we are prepared to accept death and say goodbye.
Body function is lost at "constant speed"
Allen Andrade (Assistant Professor, Mount Sinai Medical University Elderly and Palliative Medicine)
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends doctors not use expressions such as "die from old age" or "natural death." The reason is that these words are of little value to the medical community.
In the past, the cause of death could not be identified from a series of things that occurred before death, the unnatural death such as murder or suicide was not suspected, or the prosecutor or coroner was the cause of death due to limited resources. It was a word used in a broad sense when an investigation could not be performed to identify
But these words are still popular with the general public. It gives the impression that death wasn't unexpected or traumatic, and keeps away from the difficult to talk about the cause of death. This is because we all want to be “young and healthy” for as long as possible, and we want to avoid long-term suffering from serious illness. Like birth, death is a sentinel event in life, and is a theme that many people want to avoid because it is extremely emotional.
Interestingly, many do not delay death itself, but fear the process of death. Many who die without relying on life-supporting devices such as ventilators will experience the same death. The main difference between dying is how quickly the body stops functioning. Some people live for weeks to months, some die for days to weeks, hours to days, and minutes to hours.
People with a time frame of a few weeks to a few months lose their physical functions at a constant rate, and remain seated or bedridden to get the people around them to take care of them. People who live for a few days to a few weeks will gradually lose their focus, become unaware of what's going on around them, and lose interest in eating and drinking. People who die within hours to days do not know what is happening in their surroundings, and gradually become difficult to swallow, and their breathing becomes rough and they become fatigued as if they were sprinting. And those who die within minutes to hours are already unconscious and breathe irregularly.
In summary, death is a natural process and largely peaceful. Depending on the length of the dying process and the causes of death, you may experience symptoms such as breathing disorder, pain, and delirium just before you die. You can make your time as high quality as possible.

NeNe Leakes is opening up about her husband’s alleged transgressions.
During Monday’s episode of Angela Lee’s Lip Service podcast, the Real Housewives of Atlanta star, 52, claimed to have discovered Gregg Leakes having inappropriate conversations with a former employee.
NeNe explained the alleged incident came to light back in summer 2019 after she opened a clothing store in Maryland at the MGM National Harbor.
At the time, NeNe cryptically spoke out about Gregg’s behavior on Twitter asking her followers what they would do if their husband was caught talking to one of their employees.
NeNe explained on the podcast that Gregg had helped with the hiring process for the new store, adding, “ really good with all things that I’m not good with.”
The Bravo star shared that one day when she was looking for a manager, she remembered a girl in the store that seemed like Gregg’s “type.”
U find out ur husband/boyfriend been talkin on the phone regularly to 1 of ur female employees as “just a friend” but u had no knowledge of it, did he cross any lines? Askin 4 a friend since y’all know EVERYTHING (but he said, we never talked sex! I just needed some1 to talk 2
— NeNe Leakes (@NeNeLeakes) June 26, 2019

“She’s very much Gregg’s type and Gregg very much likes girls with short hair. When he met me, I had short hair,” NeNe said.
She explained that when she first saw the girl, who NeNe identified on the podcast as being named Juanita, she thought nothing of it until she came back to the store a while after to have an employee meeting.
NeNe said that during the meeting she noticed Juanita and one of her other employees were not getting along.
“She was sitting there, the gay guy said, ‘I don’t appreciate you calling me a queen and listen, you wouldn’t want to do that because you know I know your secret.'”
That’s when things came to a head.
NeNe said Juanita denied what the male employee was referencing, prompting him to say, “Well, how about you and Mr. Gregg be FaceTiming.”
“I’m in a whole room and I’m standing up and I didn’t get out of character I just said ‘Really?'” NeNe explained, recalling her reaction.
“I knew he wasn’t lying,” NeNe said of the male employee who exposed the alleged secret. “And she was in shock,” she said of Juanita.

NeNe then called Gregg, who vehemently denied the allegation.
“‘So, you’ve been talking to Juanita,'” NeNe said she told Gregg, putting him on speaker phone during the meeting.
“He said ‘No!'” NeNe said. “And I was like ‘Okay, you have. Bye.’ And he went insane, screaming going crazy and then her phone beeped.”
NeNe said she then asked Juanita to pack her stuff and leave.
PEOPLE has not been able to find a contact or rep for Juanita. A rep for Gregg did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.
When asked to explain the relationship, NeNe said Gregg told her, “We never did anything. We just talked on the phone. We never had sex,” the reality star said on the podcast.
“‘You weren’t here for me to talk to,'” NeNe said Gregg told her.
NeNe said that she and Gregg didn’t talk for months, but eventually got back to a good place.
While she was disappointed in Gregg’s alleged actions, NeNe revealed she doesn’t force her husband to be faithful.
“Gregg has taken passes that I didn’t even give him. At this point, if he wanted to go, he would go the hell on. I like to talk open relationships and I have talked about that with Gregg and told him, ‘If you’re going to cheat, your relationship is open anyway,'” NeNe said.
“If Gregg wanted to be with someone right now, I would say go right on. Why am I going to try and keep him from doing something he wants to do? Then I would have to make a choice if I want to say and I probably would.”
“I do what I want anyway,” NeNe explained. “I don’t want to hear what he’s doing about anyway. I’m in New York and he’s in Georgia. Whatever he’s doing I don’t nee to know about it. We’ve really had these conversations.”
NeNe and Gregg previously separated in 2010 and divorced the following year, ending a then 14-year marriage. They remarried in June 2013.
Their marriage has weathered a number of storms, including Gregg stage 3 colon cancer diagnosis that nearly ended their union.
In November, NeNe made her first appearance in season 12 of RHOA and said, “I am definitely not the same NeNe as I was last year.”

“Before Gregg got diagnosed with cancer, we were already in a tough place,” NeNe recalled. “It was probably the worst thing we’ve been through.”
NeNe had struggled in the caretaker role, as documented on RHOA‘s 11th season. “I’m just not good. I’m not good at fluffing the pillow; I’m good at buying the pillow,” she told PEOPLE at the time.
RELATED: NeNe Leakes Questions If Gregg’s Stage 3 Cancer Is ‘Payback’ After She Revealed He Cheated
She also said his illness had caused strain in their marriage. “He’s changed as a person, his attitude changed,” NeNe said. “I feel like that day, I lost my husband. Our whole dynamic changed. Sometimes I forget that he’s sick and I need to remind myself because he’s so on the edge. He’s not nice, but he can’t help it.”
Now, though, it seems all is on the mend.
On the episode, NeNe said that her relationship with Gregg was “healing from the cancer journey.”

New York Identifies Hospitals and Nursing Homes With Deadly Fungus
There once was a man named Albert Alexander. He was a policeman — “[American accent] Hey.” — in England. “[British accent] Hello.” One day on patrol, he cut his cheek — “Ouch!” — which led to a terrible infection. See, this was back in 1941, before patients had antibiotics. These were the days when a little scratch could kill you. “Or you got an ear infection and you died. A cat bite and you died. Or you stepped on a stick and you died. All of a sudden, antibiotics come along and bang.” The antibiotic era had begun. Soon a slow and painful death became a seven-day course of antibiotics and a $10 copay. And Albert? Albert was the first patient in the world to receive the antibiotic — penicillin. And it worked. “We just came up with a lifesaving, life-extending drug, one of the greatest developments in human history. Except not.” That’s Matt Richtel, a science reporter for The New York Times. For the past year, Matt’s been talking to health experts to find out if we are reaching the end of the antibiotic era. Modern medicine depends on the antibiotic. “And having used it so much, we’re now putting it at risk. Is our fate sealed?” “First off, I don’t think people respect bacteria enough.” This is Ellen Silbergeld, one of the leading scientists studying antibiotic resistance. “Bacteria rule the world. We are just a platform for bacteria. Within the human body, there are more bacterial cells than there are human cells. So we are, in fact, mostly bacteria.” “Alexander Fleming —” the man who discovered penicillin “— in his Nobel speech said, hang on, be aware. When you start killing this stuff off, it’s going to fight back.” “Did we pay any attention to that? No.” “The C.D.C. got our attention today with a warning about what it calls ‘nightmare bacteria.’” “These are bacteria that are resistant to most, if not all, antibiotics.” When we take antibiotics to kill infections, some bacteria survive. It used to be they’d replicate, and eventually resistance would grow. But now, they’re way more efficient and share drug-resistant genes among themselves. So every time we take an antibiotic, we risk creating stronger, more resistant bacteria. And stronger, more resistant bacteria means less and less effective antibiotics. And this is a problem because we take lots of antibiotics. “Money gets made over the sale of antibiotics.” Big money. Globally, the antibiotics market is valued at $40 billion. And in the U.S., the C.D.C. estimates that about 30 percent of all prescribed antibiotics are not needed at all. That’s 47 million excess prescriptions. And in many places outside of the U.S., you don’t even need a prescription. “You can walk into a pharmacy. A pharmacist will diagnose you and give you antibiotics. I tend to think of it as a story of Darwinian forces multiplied by the pace and scale of global capitalism. In an interconnected world — travel, import, export — we’re moving the bugs with us.” “I can go to a meeting in China or Vietnam or some place —” This is Lance Price, the director of the Antibiotic Resistance Action Center. “I can become colonized by untreatable E. coli. And I might not have any symptoms. But you can get colonized. And you can become this sort of long-term host.” So you could be healthy and still spreading bad bacteria without even knowing it. “Drug-resistant bacteria have never been able to travel the world as fast as they do today.” And that’s just part of the problem. “You should know that about 80 percent of antibiotic production in this country goes into agriculture.” “Why on earth did somebody think putting antibiotics in agriculture was a great idea?” “We’ve said, hey, look, cram these animals together. Don’t worry too much about hygiene or trying to keep them healthy. Just give them antibiotics. And then in a couple weeks, you’re going to have full-grown animals that you can chop up and eat. Right? And you can make money off of that.” “Nobody was making the connection between feeding animals antibiotics and the fact that the food would be carrying drug-resistant bacteria.” So Ellen did a study. She compared different kinds of store-bought chicken. And she found that poultry raised with antibiotics had nine times as much drug-resistant bacteria on it. “Now, let’s talk about the vegetarians. I just want you to understand, you’re not safe. You know all these outbreaks that take place among the lettuce and the things like that. Have you ever wondered how that happened? It’s because animal manure is used in raising crops. Organic agriculture lauds the use of animal manure.” “Unless you’re just a complete, ‘I’m a vegan, and I only hang out with vegans, and I eat sterilized vegetables,’ you know, it’s very likely that you’re picking up the same bacteria.” Resistant bacteria seep into the groundwater, fly off the back of livestock trucks and hitch a ride home on the hands of farm workers, all of which makes trying to pinpoint exactly where resistant bacteria is originating extremely difficult. And even when it seems like there is a clear source, things still aren’t so simple. “No one wants to be seen as a hub of an epidemic.” Say your grandmother makes you a rump roast. And then that rump roast makes you sick. Well, if you live in France, or Ireland, or pretty much anywhere in the E.U., packaged meat has a tracking label. You can figure out exactly what farm that meat came from. But in the U.S., not even the top public health officials can do that. “Most countries have animal ID laws. We don’t.” Pat Basu, former chief veterinarian for the U.S.D.A.’s Food Safety and Inspection Service, basically one of the top veterinarians in the country. “Let me start at the beginning. We got a case where we had resistant bacteria causing illness in people. There were sick people that C.D.C. identified.” “More than 50 people in eight counties have gotten an unusual strain of salmonella linked to pork.” “This is not your grandmother’s pathogen anymore. This is a new bug.” Health officials traced the outbreak back to the slaughterhouse and identified six potential farms where the outbreak could have come from. But then the investigation shut down. “The individual farmers have to agree voluntarily to share the data with these investigators who go out. We couldn’t go any further back. It was a dead end.” 192 people sick, 30 hospitalizations and zero access for health officials to investigate the farms. “The secrecy is maintained because there are big economic forces behind it. Farms are scared of losing their ability to get antibiotics. Hospitals are scared of driving away patients.” “Well, as a physician, I do get very upset. I get very upset, as a patient, that information is being withheld.” This is Kevin Kavanagh, a doctor and a consumer advocate for patients. “Drug-resistant bacteria is a huge problem. If it occurs at a restaurant, if it occurs in a cruise ship, you know about this immediately —” “A salmonella outbreak —” “within days or hours of an outbreak occurring.” “This morning, Chipotle is keeping dozens of its restaurants in the Pacific Northwest closed —” “But yet, in a hospital, it can take you months or even over a year until this data appears on a governmental website or reported by the C.D.C.” In the U.S., hospitals are under no obligation to inform the public when a bacterial outbreak occurs. “Defend and deny. They are very concerned about the short-term economic benefits, rather than looking at long-term problems.” “There’s always this response like, well, but there’s still a drug, right? Like, this isn’t the end.” Remember Albert Alexander? — “Hello. Ouch!” — the first patient to be given penicillin? Well, his story didn’t end there. Five days after he started recovering, the hospital ran out of the new drug, and Mr. Alexander died. Today, we don’t have to worry about antibiotics running out. We have to worry about using them so much that they stop working altogether. “— want to know why a metro health department didn’t shut down a restaurant —” “It’s a very resistant bacteria —” “We really need to change the way we use antibiotics. Because the way we use antibiotics is destroying them.” “It’s putting at risk the entire system of care that we depend on for lengthening our lives and improving the quality of our lives.” The British government commissioned a study which predicted a worst case scenario where more people will die by 2050 of these infections than will die of cancer. “That’s a generation from now.” “It takes 10 years to identify, develop, test and bring to market a new antibiotic. And it takes a billion dollars.” “This is a common issue for humanity.” “Very similar to global warming.” “You can’t control it as a single company. You can’t control this as a single government.” And because the bacteria are now working together so efficiently — “Unless the world acts consistently together, it doesn’t make a difference.”

Then she started imposing stupid rules on us such as;
"You can't have the computer on while you are troubleshooting inside cause you could electrocute yourself"
Or
"You don't need the case open to troubleshoot motherboard lights"
TLDR:
Shitty year long sub fucks us all over, tells me i am faking my mother's cancer and destroys another teachers personal property. Gets ripped into by mother with all my teachers and VP and P present. looses opportunity to work in my district or any surrounding for being unprofessional and not knowing her subject forcing everyone in her class to retake the next year.

“I have lost 19 lbs and never felt better”
“After I was diagnosed with Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease in 2010 my life changed dramatically. The doctors made it sound like a death sentence and it hit me hard. It seems so obvious to me now but at the time I had no idea how important my diet was in reversing the problem. I stopped drinking and then found your program. The results have been incredible. I have lost 19 lbs and never felt healthier.”
Geoff Fazackerly, 48 – Melbourne, Australia
“I feel like a different person!”
“I used to be really sluggish, irritable and tired all the time. My doctor told me I had fat in my liver, which I hadn’t even heard of before. My wife started looking into ways to sort it out and found your program 2 months ago. I stuck to it religiously and have lost 17 lbs already. I feel like a different person! Thanks so much for your hard work in putting this together and helping people like me.”
Derek Lambass, 54 – Kentucky, U.S.
“If only I found you 5 years ago!”
“I have suffered from NASH for over 5 years. And last year I was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes as well. All the doctors ever wanted to do was give me pills and all sorts of medications. I didn’t want to pump my body full of drugs so I started to do my own research. Eventually I found your program and it immediately made sense! Thanks to your program the transformation in my health has been nothing short of a miracle. I not only feel 100 times better, but I barely need to take any insulin at all anymore. If only I found you 5 years ago!”
Amrita Gupta, 39 – Birmingham, UK
“Your program should be made available to everyone”
“Thank you Layla!! Your program should be made available to everyone, regardless of whether they have fatty liver or anything else! Since putting your advice into practice I feel more energized, happier and I haven’t had a headache in weeks. I can almost feel the toxins leaving my body! Thanks again”
Karl Henry, 36 – Massachusetts, U.S.

The Meat Cleanse
“I know how ridiculous it sounds,” Mikhaila Peterson told me recently by phone, after a whirlwind of attention gathered around the 26-year-old, who is now offering dietary advice to people suffering with conditions like hers. Or not so much dietary advice as guiding people in eating only beef.
At first glance, Peterson, who is based in Toronto, could seem to be one of the many emerging semi-celebrities with a miraculous story of self-healing—who show off postpartum weight loss in bikini Instagrams and sell one thing or another, a supplement or tonic or book or compression garment. (Not incidentally, she is the daughter of the famous and controversial pop psychologist Jordan Peterson. More on that later.) But Peterson is taking the trend in extra-professional health advice to an extreme conclusion: She is not doing sponsored posts for health products, but actively selling one-on-one counseling ($75 for a half hour) for people who want to stop eating almost everything.
Peterson seems to be reaching suffering people despite a lack of training or credentials in nutrition or medicine, and perhaps because of that distinction. Her Instagram bio: “For info on treating weight loss, depression, and autoimmune disorders with diet, check out my blog or fb page!” The blog says at the top that “many (if not most) health problems are treatable with diet alone.” This is true, if at odds with the disclaimer at the bottom of the page that her words are “not intended to be a substitute for professional medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.”
I told her I’m surprised people need further counseling, in that an all-beef diet is very straightforward.
“They mostly want to see that I’m not dead,” she said. “What I basically do is say, hey, look at all the things that happened to me and brought me to where I am now. Isn’t it weird? And then let people draw their own conclusions.”
Peterson described an adolescence that involved multiple debilitating medical diagnoses, beginning with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis. Some unknown process had triggered her body’s immune system to attack her joints. “I was unable to hold a pencil, could barely walk, and was in constant pain,” she writes on her blog, which is called “Don’t Eat That.” The joint problems culminated in hip and ankle replacements in her teens, coupled with “extreme fatigue, depression and anxiety, brain fog, and sleep problems.” In fifth grade she was diagnosed with depression, and then later something called idiopathic hypersomnia (which translates to English as “sleeping too much, of unclear cause”—which translates further to sorry we really don’t know what’s going on).
Everything the doctors tried failed, and she did everything they told her, she recounted to me. She fully bought into the system, taking large doses of strong immune-suppressing drugs like methotrexate, prednisone, leflunomide, and humira. “Despite being on multiple heavy-hitting meds, I was still struggling with basic day-to-day tasks,” she writes on her blog.
Her story takes a dramatic turn in 2015, when the underdog protagonist, nearly at the end of her rope, figured out the truth for herself. It was all about food.
Peterson adopted a common approach to dieting: elimination. She started cutting out foods from her diet, and feeling better each time. She began with gluten, and she kept going, casting out more and more—not just gluten or dairy or soy or lectins or artificial sweeteners or non-artificial sweeteners, but everything. Until, by December 2017, all that was left was “beef and salt and water,” and, she told me, “all my symptoms went into remission.”
“And you quit taking all your medications?”
“Everything.”
There is so much evidence—abundant, copious evidence acquired over decades of work from scientists around the world—that most people benefit from eating fruits, vegetables, nuts, beans, and seeds. This appears to be largely because fiber in plants is important to the flourishing of the gut microbiome. I ran this by some experts, just to make sure I wasn’t missing anything that might suggest a beef-salt diet is potentially something other than a bad idea. I learned that it was worse than I thought.
“Physiologically, it would just be an immensely bad idea,” Jack Gilbert, the faculty director at the University of Chicago’s Microbiome Center and a professor of surgery, told me during a recent visit to his lab. “A terribly, terribly bad idea.”
Gilbert has done extensive research on how the trillions of microbes in our guts digest food, and the look on his face when I told him about the all-beef diet was unamused. He began rattling off the expected ramifications: “Your body would start to have severe dysregulation, within six months, of the majority of the processes that deal with metabolism; you would have no short-chain fatty acids in your cells; most of the byproducts of gastrointestinal polysaccharide fermentation would shut down, so you wouldn’t be able to regulate your hormone levels; you’d enter into cardiac issues due to alterations in cell receptors; your microbiota would just be devastated.”
While much of the internet has been following this story in a somewhat snide way, Gilbert appeared genuinely concerned and saddened: “If she does not die of colon cancer or some other severe cardiometabolic disease, the life—I can’t imagine.”
There are few accounts of people having tried all-beef diets, though all-meat—known as carnivory—is slightly more common. Earlier this month, inspired by the media conversation about the Peterson approach, Alan Levinovitz, the author of The Gluten Lie, tried carnivory, eating only meat for two weeks. He did lose seven pounds, which he attributes to eating fewer calories overall, because he eventually got tired of eating only meat. He missed snacking at coffee shops and browsing the local farmer’s market and trying out new restaurants around town, cooking with his family, and just generally enjoying food.
“I was psychologically exhausted,” Levinovitz told me. When he returned to omnivory, and he regained the lost weight in four days.
Peterson told me it took several weeks for her to get used to the beef-only approach, and that the relief of her medical symptoms overpowers any sense of missing food. If even a tiny amount of anything else finds its way into her mouth, she will be ill, she says. This happened when she tried to eat an organic olive, and again recently when she was at a restaurant that put pepper on her steak.
“I was like, whatever, it’s just pepper,” she told me. Then she had a reaction that lasted three weeks and included joint pain, acne, and anxiety.
Apart from having to exist in a world where the possibility of pepper exposure looms, the only other social downside she notices is that she hates asking people to accommodate her diet. So she will usually eat before she goes to a dinner party, she told me, “but then I’ll go drink and enjoy the party.”
“Drink, as in, water?”
“I can also, strangely enough, tolerate vodka and bourbon.”
The idea that alcohol, one of the most well-documented toxic substances, is among the few things that Peterson’s body will tolerate may be illuminating. It implies that when it comes to dieting, the inherent properties of the substances ingested can be less important than the eater’s conceptualizations of them—as either tolerable or intolerable, good or bad. What’s actually therapeutic may be the act of elimination itself.
For centuries, ascetics have found enlightenment through acts of deprivation. As Levinovitz, who is an associate professor of religion at James Madison University, explained to me, the Daoist text the Zhuangzi describes “a spirit man” who lives in the mountains and rides dragons and subsists only on air and dew. “There’s an anti-authoritarian bent to pop-culture wisdom, and a part of that is dealing with food taboos, which are handed down by authorities,” Levinovitz said. “Those are government now, instead of religious. And because they are wrong so often—or, at least, apparently wrong—that’s a good place to go when carving out your own area of authority. If you just eat the ‘wrong’ foods and don’t die, that’s a ritual way to prove that you go against conventional wisdom.”
Peterson’s narrative fits a classic archetype of an outsider who beat the game and healed thyself despite the odds and against the recommendations of the establishment. Her story is her truth, and it can’t be explained; you have to believe. And unlike the many studies that have been done to understand the diets of the longest-lived, healthiest people in history, or the randomized trials that are used to determine which health interventions are safe and effective for whom, her story is clear and dramatic. It’s right there in her photos; it has a face and a name to prove that no odds are too long for one determined person to overcome.
The beneficial effects of a compelling personal narrative that helps explain and give order to the world can be absolutely physiologically real. It is well documented that the immune system (and, so, autoimmune diseases) are modulated by our lifestyles—from how much we sleep and move to how well we eat and how much we drink. Most importantly, the immune system is also modulated by stress, which tends to be a byproduct of a perceived lack of control or order.
If strict dietary rules provide a sense of control and order, then Peterson’s approach is emblematic of the trend in elimination dieting taken to an extreme: Avoid basically everything. This verges into the realm of an eating disorder. The National Eating Disorder Association lists among common symptoms “refusal to eat certain foods, progressing to restrictions against whole categories of food.” In the early phases of disordered eating, as with bipolar disorder or alcoholism, a person may look and feel great. They may thrive for months or even years. But this fades. What’s more, the temporary relief from anxiety may mean that the source of the anxiety goes unsought and unaddressed.
I asked Peterson about the possibility that she may be enabling people with eating disorders. She said she would draw a line if a client were underweight or inducing vomiting. Otherwise, “it’s extremely disrespectful to people with health issues caused by food to be lumped into the same category as people with eating disorders. More of the same ‘blame the patient’ stuff that doctors and health professionals already do.”
The popularity of Peterson’s narrative is explained by more than its timeless tropes; it has also been amplified by the fact that her father has occasionally cast his spotlight onto her story. Jordan Peterson’s recent book, Twelve Rules for Life, includes the story of his daughter’s health trials. The elder Peterson, a psychologist at the University of Toronto, could at first seem an unlikely face for acceptance of personal, subjective truth, as he regularly professes the importance of acting as purely as possible according to rigorous analysis of data. He argued in a recent video that American universities are the home to “ideologues who claim that all truth is subjective, that all sex differences are socially constructed, and that Western imperialism is the sole source of all Third World problems.” In his book, he writes that academic institutions are teaching children to be “brainwashed victims,” and that “the rigorous critical theoretician is morally obligated to set them straight.”
It is on grounds of his interpretation of income data, for example, that he has spoken out against the idea of a wage gap between men and women being unfair, as it can be explained away by biological factors associated with certain personality traits that are more valuable in the capitalist marketplace. From arguments from social-science evidence, he has expressed uncertainty that lesbian couples can raise children without a male father figure. And it is academic evidence that leads him to write in his book that “the so-called patriarchy” is “an arbitrary cultural artifact.”
Yet in a July appearance on the comedian Joe Rogan’s podcast, Jordan Peterson explained how Mikhaila’s experience had convinced him to eliminate everything but meat and leafy greens from his diet, and that in the last two months he had gone full meat and eliminated vegetables. Since he changed his diet, his laundry list of maladies has disappeared, he told Rogan. His lifelong depression, anxiety, gastric reflux (and associated snoring), inability to wake up in the mornings, psoriasis, gingivitis, floaters in his right eye, numbness on the sides of his legs, problems with mood regulation—all of it is gone, and he attributes it to the diet.
“I’m certainly intellectually at my best,” he said. “I’m stronger, I can swim better, and my gum disease is gone. It’s like, what the hell?”
“Do you take any vitamins?” asked Rogan
“No. No, I eat beef and salt and water. That’s it. And I never cheat. Ever. Not even a little bit.”
“No soda, no wine?”
“I drink club soda.”
“Well, that’s still water.”
“Well, when you’re down to that level, no, it’s not, Joe. There’s club soda, which is really bubbly. There’s Perrier, which is sort of bubbly. There’s flat water, and there’s hot water. Those distinctions start to become important.”
Peterson reiterated several times that he is not giving dietary advice, but said that many attendees of his recent speaking tour have come up to him and said the diet is working for them. The takeaway for listeners is that it worked for Peterson, and so it may work for them. Rogan also clarified that though he is also not an expert, he is fascinated by the fact that he hasn’t heard any negative stories about people who have started the all-meat diet.
“Well, I have a negative story,” said Peterson. “Both Mikhaila and I noticed that when we restricted our diet and then ate something we weren’t supposed to, the reaction was absolutely catastrophic.” He gives the example of having had some apple cider and subsequently being incapacitated for a month by what he believes was an inflammatory response.
“You were done for a month?”
“Oh yeah, it took me out for a month. It was awful ...”
“Apple cider? What was it doing to you?”
“It produced an overwhelming sense of impending doom. I seriously mean overwhelming. There’s no way I could’ve lived like that. But see, Michaela knew by then that it would probably only last a month.”
“A month? From fucking cider?”
“I didn’t sleep that month or 25 days. I didn’t sleep at all for 25 days.”
“What? How is that possible?”
“I’ll tell you how it’s possible, you lay in bed frozen in something approximating terror for eight hours. And then you get up.”
The longest recorded stretch of sleeplessness in a human is 11 days, witnessed by a Stanford research team.
While there is debate in the scientific community over just how much meat belongs in a human diet, it is impossible for all or even most humans to eat primarily meat. Beef production at the scale required to feed billions of humans even at current levels of consumption is environmentally unsustainable. It is not even healthy from a theoretical evolutionary viewpoint, the microbiome expert Gilbert explained to me. Carnivores need to eat meat or else they die; humans do not. “The carnivore gastrointestinal tract is completely different from the human gastrointestinal tract, which is made up of a system designed to consume large quantities of complex fibers.”
What the Petersons are selling is rather a sense of order and control. Science is about questions, and self-help is about answers. A recurring idea in Jordan Peterson’s book is that humans need rules—the subtitle of is “an antidote to chaos”—even if only for the sake of rules. Peterson discovered this through his own suffering, as when he was searching the world for the best surgeon to give his young daughter a new hip. In explaining how he dealt with Mikhaila’s illness, he writes that “existence and limitation are inextricably linked.” He quotes Laozi:
It is not the clay the potter throws,
Which gives the pot its usefulness,
But the space within the shape,
From which the pot is made
Dietary rules offer limits, good or bad, that help people define the self. This is an attractive prospect, and anyone willing to decree such rules—dietary or otherwise—is bound to attract attention. Fox News recently declared Peterson “the Left’s public enemy number one” in a segment where he discussed with Tucker Carlson “why the Left wants to silence conservative thought.” Though to have lived through the last year is to have lived in a world where Peterson and his ideas have enjoyed near-constant amplification.
The allure of a strict code for eating—a way to divide the world into good foods and bad foods, angels and demons—may be especially strong at a time when order feels in short supply. Indeed there is at least some benefit to be had from any and all dietary advice, or rules for life, so long as a person believes in them, and so long as they provide a code that allows a person to feel good for having stuck with it and a cohort of like-minded adherents. The challenge is to find a code that accords as best possible with scientific evidence about what is good and bad, and with what is best for the world.

‘Crucial Catch’ game especially powerful for one Chiefs fan
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – On Sunday afternoon an estimated 75,000 fans attending a football game at Arrowhead stadium stood at half time to recognize loved ones who have been impacted by cancer. The very impactful moment was done as part of the league’s Crucial Catch initiative which encourages early cancer screenings.
“No one is immune to cancer so if we can play our part, even in a small role to bring awareness to everyone so that we can save one more life or get detection before something happens, that’s part of what we want to do,” said Bill Chapin, Senior Vice President of Business Operations for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Seven cancer survivors were also recognized at half time on Sunday’s game, with each representing one of the screenable forms the disease – breast, colon, cervical, childhood, colon, general, lung and prostate. Among those who were recognized, was Tim Grimes.
“In August of 2014 I was diagnosed with stage four melanoma. It was in my liver, lungs, spine and lymph nodes and at that time I was given, originally 12 – 18 months,” said Grimes.
The years that followed his diagnosis have been an emotional rollercoaster ride.
“ I’ve done a clinical trial and about six different treatments. It eventually spread to my brain so I had to have brain surgery in the spring,” Grimes explained.
“ At 28 [this diagnosis] was very unexpected, but I knew I wasn’t ready to be done yet so I just did what I could to enjoy life as much as possible, whether it was 9 months, or 18 months or another 30 years,” he adds.
“ I’d like to think that I’m going through this so somebody else doesn’t have to. If I can encourage someone else to go get checked or get screened at a time that they may not have thought about it, that`s my main goal right now,” said Grimes.
The Chiefs partnered with The University of Kansas Health System and the American Cancer Society in this event. The “Crucial Catch” initiative has raised more than $18 million since 2009, and expects to create an even bigger impact this season as it expands beyond just breast cancer to all screenable forms of the disease.
To learn more about early detection or to schedule a screening, you can visit the website.

I saw on my dash that somebody had written out how much Markiplier means to her and how his videos had helped her through some hard times. It inspired me in turn!
August 2010, I was a Senior in High School. It was only a few days into the school year and I was pretty hyped about my senior project. It was, at that time, the most important thing on my mind. My friends and I hopped off the bus, and we found my friends’ mother was at the bus stop to pick us up. The moment I got into the car, she turned around and informed me that my mother was in the hospital. She had been sick for a while. After a visit to the hospital for blood testing, they called her back because her iron was incredibly low. They ran tests, and found a tumor in her intestines. One surgery later, they confirmed that it had been Stage 3 Colon Cancer. My mom had survived, and the important thing was that as long as she didn’t relapse, everything was going to be fine...
Fast forward to September 2014. I was a Senior in College this time, and my father had been sick for a while as well. More...drastically sick, and the stubborn man had put off Doctor visits until finally giving in. Right before I was meeting with a group of classmates to talk about an assignment we had, I got a call from my parents. The doctor barely had to look before diagnosing my father with...you guessed it. Stage 3 Colon Cancer. The tumor was so big, it was actually starting to poke through and out of his anus. I kept it together for the meeting with my classmates, but on my way back to my apartment, I broke down crying several times. I reached my apartment, and I was alone. My roomies all had their own lives to lead, classes and jobs to do and I didn’t know them well enough to talk to them about it. So I went to youtube and just sorted through music videos and the like. I had online friends to talk to who were all a great support, but sometimes I still felt very alone. Then, I found your Five Night’s At Freddy’s videos. I watched you play through the first game, and quickly went through other videos you had done. They became very soothing to watch as I did my homework, when I had nobody to listen or talk to. Through you I found Bob, Wade, Jack, and even Ethan’s channels! All of which I’ve had an enjoyable time watching, particularly when you are all together.
I also eventually learned through your drawing video about your life that you too, had a parent who had cancer. Part of the reason I was able to get through things when my mom had cancer was because my best friend’s mother had also had cancer, though she regretfully passed away. He and I grew a special bond, able to understand each other’s struggles and loss. Learning that you had been through the same thing made me feel a bit closer to you, silly as that sounds since I’ve never met you! But it was just amazing to learn that somebody who inadvertently helped me through a hard time had likewise been through the same thing. And I want to thank you, Mark. You and all of your friends. My parents are both officially in remission, with no trace of cancer coming back yet. Things are still rough, but I still have you all to listen to when it gets that way.
