i finally did it! i rewatched starsky & hutch a body worth guarding! and i've decided it's still not a favorite, but it does have a lot of cute little moments to it, and "you wanna catch a criminal? GET the fascists!" is just a wonderful thing to hear any time anywhere. solid middle of the road episode for me, i think

So I just finished Gilmore Girls for the first time and boy, do I have some thoughts:

First of all, I love this show so much. More than I ever thought I would. It’s just so comforting. I totally get it now.

Now, for specifics.

Lorelai:

I love Lorelai. She does make some dumb choices, but in the end, she’s just so loveable and fun, I can’t help but adore her.

Rory:

I do not get the hate I’ve seen for Rory! Yes, like her mom, she makes stupid decisions, but she’s so wonderful. Maybe it’s just because I relate to her so closely, but I love Rory so much.

Luke:

Ughhhh I love love love Luke. He’s so unexpectedly hilarious sometimes?? I did not foresee that when I started. Scott Patterson is also strangely one of the best actors on the show, which I also did not expect. Luke is a gem, we love him.

Luke & Lorelai:

How could you not love these two together? They’re absolutely perfect for each other and the pining, especially on Luke’s part, makes for incredible television. I do think their dynamic kind of lost the really special ‘will they, won’t they’ tension after season 1/2, but I still ship them. So glad they ended up together. When she was still with Christopher near the end of season 7, I got a little worried.

Paris:

PARIS IS GAY. I will accept nothing less. She is queer in some way, whether she’s a lesbian or bi. She had absolutely no chemistry with any of her love interests but so much with Rory. Also she’s just amazing all around. I fucking love Paris. Make her queer, cowards.

Lane:

How could you not love Lane? She’s the absolute shit. Cool, supportive, loyal, and a fucking rockstar. I didn’t mind her with Zach to begin with (even though I thought it was a bit strange how they all of a sudden liked each other), but when they got married and had kids, that was a big nope for me. Lane Kim deserved to be a famous rockstar.

Emily & Richard:

I went back and forth on these two. On one hand, they’re very entertaining characters and I do believe they’re trying to do what they think is best, but on the other, I think in the end they do more harm than good. The way they dismiss Lorelai’s trauma, and completely disregard everyone else’s opinion because they assume they automatically know what’s best, just rubs me the wrong way. Not to mention the manipulation and the going behind people’s backs. I think there should’ve been an arc at the end where they finally listened to Lorelai and acknowledged what they’d done and tried to change for the better.

Sookie:

Melissa McCarthy is great in everything, and this is no exception. She’s so sweet and lovable, and such a good friend to Lorelai. I love her. Plus her relationship with Jackson is just lovely.

Michel:

He’s such a sarcastic bitch and I love him. I think that’s all there is to say.

The Townies and Side Characters:

Kirk - Kirk is maybe the funniest part of the show and such a little sweetheart, I love him so much.

Babette - aka the best neighbour ever. We deserved even more of her and Morey than we got.

Miss Patty - same goes for Patty! We need more Patty!

Taylor - annoying and obnoxious but the show wouldn’t be the same without him. Irreplaceable.

Gypsy - again, we needed more!! Gypsy was so funny and I just wanted more!

April - I love April! She’s so sweet. I don’t, however, like what her arrival did to Luke and Lorelai’s relationship, and I fucking hate Anna.

Christopher - I don’t hate him, but he’s definitely not one of my favourites. I think it would’ve been a lot better if he and Lorelai had just been really close friends, or if he had just been fully out of the picture.

And finally, the boys:

Dean:

FUCK. DEAN. Do I need to say more? He’s a toxic, possessive, asshole and I hate him. He was okay in the beginning, but the ‘50s episode really clinched my hatred for him. Huge nope from me. What a dick.

Logan:

Man, do I hate Logan. Obviously not as bad as Dean, but he’s such a douchebag!! I genuinely cannot stand him or put up with any of his bullshit. I thought he would grow on me as the show went on but no, I only hated him more.

Jess:

Best for last. My love for this man knows no bounds. Obviously the best fit for Rory, I love them together, but also his relationship with Luke is so great. Also, justice for his and Rory’s relationship while they were dating!! Why did we only get to see it when shit hit the fan? They kept mentioning how they were going to hang out, that they were meeting up later on, so why didn’t we get to see any of it? Why did we only get to see them when Jess fucked up? I hate that. I also hate that they didn’t end up together, even when Jess grew and changed and bettered himself. Anyway, I just love him. I could talk about him forever.

A Year in the Life:

They tried to fit 22 episodes worth of Gilmore Girls into 4 episodes, and it didn’t work. The first episode did an okay job, and I did kind of love the last episode (the wedding!), but the middle two were. . . yikes. No theme song/opening titles? No transitions? NO SOOKIE EXCEPT FOR ONE SCENE AT THE END? Michel thinking about leaving the inn and Lorelai being abandoned by both of her friends? No Jackson? Rory being with an engaged Logan? Basically no Jess except for a few scenes, one of which broke my heart? I could go on forever.

That being said, they should make more after the cliffhanger they left us on. I’ll take whatever I can get, even if it’s subpar.

Anyway those are just a few of my many thoughts about this show. I can’t believe I waited until now to watch it. I need someone to talk about this show with so if you see this and want to talk, DM me.

been watching creepcast more or less since the first/second episode and after latest i keep wanting to talk to ppl abt my thoughts and im tired of trying to engage with other youtube comments / i dont wanna keep bothering my spouse with this plus id want to talk to other ppl who are viewers but dhkdhfk im gonna rant behind the cut; tw animal death/violence, child abuse

gonna rant assuming readers is also a viewer cause too tired to explain, sorry. this is just “stuff id want to chat with fellow fans of the poscast but i dont have friends who watch it, and the youtube comments suck for the most part and id rather be turned inside out than login to reddit”, like i did end up using rhe comment section way toomuch already, jm tired and its like 3% normal ppl and 97% dicks and assholes with bully disorder

like it was a big enlightening to just properly label things last night at last and process the feelings and situation. this is jsut a podcast with isaiah bullying his cohost hunter (“as a joke”) and the fans at large are people who enjoying bullying snd find it funny, and try to bully commenters who disrupt their “fun”, trting to discret and demean them as friendless parasocial losers for not playing along the theater of mockery and treating it as socially acceptable.

like its one thing to tease between friends and make dark jokes, its another thing to repeatedly, insistently, laugh at your friend for being traumatized as a child by violent animal death? like. its like i get that initially he was just really baffled at the event like haha oh my god did that happened thats so fucked up (which is annoyingly normie in its own way like yeah dude, none of us have control over fucked up shit happening to us as children, like he makes such a spectacle about it like its this earth shattering thing). like its tragic and a big deal but like wrt trauma its usually safe to be on the level that the person with the trauma is setting, if theyre talkinf about it really intensely it makes sense to match up to that tone or lower. instead hunter is trting to move on while isaiah is just obsessed fascinated with it like its fiction almsot. idk just . uggghhhhhhh

LIVE WHAT DOWN???? having his grandfather intentionally shoot his dog in front of him as a 7 year old child? like what the actual fuck is wrong with him??!! have like even a shred of respect for your cohost, like its all ‘as a joke’ but if you consistently ‘as a joke’ act like a cruel manipulative bullying person, im just gonna choose to believe youre actually just that person using “humor” as a shield to excuse your behavior.

* Games

I loved Vila's little interactions with Gambit.Wish they got more time together, or at least a chess game. This could've been the start of a beautiful friendship.

Vila having seen Zen die & him learning about Gambit's self destruct orders...ouch.

Solid trickster figure/conman in this one which I appreciate.

At this point in the season Avon mentioning a "brilliant scientist" already means the scientist is doomed.

* Sand: I knew this is a Tanith Lee episode before I knew this is a Tanith Lee episode 😁(Wish there were more of those.)

One of my favourites so far. Servalan in particular shines. Vern is such a fascinating setting and while the special effects aren't the most convincing here it just contributes to the eeriness. 10/10.

Poor Avon is never going to live down the "dominant male" thing is he 😂. Good.

*Gold: Heist episode.Why not.

I like the idea of the sham pleasure cruise and the heist plan is pretty interesting. Overall pretty enjoyable even if Avon is clinging to the idiot ball like his life depends on it.

Is it just me or does this season get a bit repetitive with the"Main characters want something, they go through hell to get it, and then they don't?" and Avon withholding vital information from his crew? (You know the thing he got mad at Blake for in season 2? I know mistrust is one of his fatal flaws and Anna Grant made it worse but it shows up more often than Cally got possessed.)

*Orbit: Ouch.

When will Avon learn random people contacting him with offers are Always Servalan's traps?

Servalan's interactions with the scientist are priceless.

How DO they tell the king from the queen in those overly stylized futuristic chess sets? I already get annoyed looking at them.

Poor Pinder.Even Avon is uncomfortable with his treatment.

Vila's "I know I'm safer with you ".Oh no.

Avon's face expressions when Orac says "Vila weighs 73 kilos?" Incredible acting 😭

Vila guessing what will happen and already hiding seconds after hearing this? Especially combined with how he's routinely treated as expendable in this show? Heartbreaking. Would he also have hidden if it was, say, Tarrant on that ship? I'd say yes.

Avon finding the solution so quickly after this but having already completely lost Vila's trust and chance of getting his help? Excellent writing.

Warlord: another good one.

I love Zeeona and her anime hair. She and Tarrant are adorable. Wish we'd gotten a bit more of her being a scientist though.

I liked how Soolin is written in this one and her standing up for Zeoona's right to choose. Too bad Zeeona only showed up in episode 12 I would've liked to see more of these two.

Of course it's diabolus-ex-machina Servalan again. This is getting repetitive to be honest. I would've preferred the warlord(s) sabotaging this hugely important alliance and dooming everybody for their own petty selfish reasons without Servalan needing to pull the strings for once.

We are in this dinky little bar trying to hustle some pool money. “What do you bench press like 125 your arms are so big” I hate being the distraction. “Don't you worry honey after I win all this money we can go on a date and I can show you in private” He said grabbing at my waist. I try not to punch him just for that. My brothers feel the same.”Brian, come on, man, just one more. Just -- just give me a chance to win it back.” Sam said acting drunk. “It's your cash.” Brain said very confidently, holding my waist tighter. “Excuse me. My brother's a little sauced to be making bets.” Dean said, adding to the lie. “He insisted.” I said trying to make Brian think I'm really into him.

“Yeah, but he’s already taken, what, two bills off him? I'm just saying.” Dean said. “Hey, shut up, Dean. I'm fine.” Sam said stumbling over his words. “No, you're not fine. You're drunk!” “Let's make it five hundred.” “Five hundred?” “Sure. After this baby I'll buy you anything you want.” Damn it got to make it convessing. “Hell yeah you will you got this!.” I said, kissing his cheek. Ew I'm going to have to boil my mouth with water after this. Sam puts the money on the table. 

“Five hundred. Your break.” Brian said. I now grab his waist to bring him closer as Sam shoots and makes all balls go in and Brian looks back and looks disappointed. “Aww it's okay you'll get it next turn.” I said. Sam looks up at the bar and suddenly he drops the facade of being drunk. “Keep the money.” Huh? Then why am I getting feeled up by a stranger. “Keep the money? What –” Dean goes to follow Sam and I look and see Ruby and I try to follow but Brian has other plans. “Huh where are you going babe I just won the money.” little does he know we let him win. “Sorry Brian I see my friend over there but I'll talk to you later.” “What you a prude or something?’’ He said as he grabbed my arm back and I turned around to elbow him. The demons seem pretty keen on finding her. Apparently, some real heavy hitters turned out for the Easter-egg hunt.” “Why? Who is she?” Sam questioned. “No idea. But I'm thinking that she's important, 'cause the order is to capture her alive. I just figured that whatever the deal is, you might want to find this girl before the demons do.” Damn it she's right.”Look, maybe we should check it out.” Sam said to us both. “Actually, we're working a case, but thanks.” Dean said .”What case?” Ruby said not believing us. “Uh, we've got leads, big leads.” “Sounds dangerous.” Ruby said with annoyance. “Yeah, well, it sure ain't goose-chasing after some chick who, for all we know, doesn't even exist, just because you say she's important.” “I'm just delivering the news. You're pissed Ruby threw us the tip.” “Right. 'Cause as far as you're concerned, the hell-bitch is practically family. “Of course I want to help however I can.” The psychologist said. “Now, the orderly has no recollection of Anna's escape?” I asked her. “Apparently, she knocked him unconscious. The blow caused some amnesia. He doesn't even remember coming into her room.” Huh right. “That's a hell of a right hook to knock out a guy that's got 80 pounds on her.” Dean said. “We think she may have planned this, waited behind the door.” “Right. Uh, you mentioned Anna's illness was recent.” I said carefully.”Two months ago, she was happy, well-adjusted, journalism major, lots of friends -- Bright future.” That really is sad. “So, what happened -- she just... flipped?” Dean asked. “Well, that's the tragedy of schizophrenia. Within weeks, Anna was overtaken by delusions.” “What kind of delusions?” I asked. “She thought demons were everywhere.” she said, handing me Anna’s sketch book. “Interesting.” 

“It's not uncommon for our patients to believe that monsters are real.” “Well, that -- that's just batty.” Dean commonted. I turn the page and we see some meaningful sketches and the text 'Raising of the Witnesses' and in the next page 'Samhain the next seal is broken'. “That's Revelations.” I said starting to put two and two together. “Since when does the Book of Revelations have jack-o'-lanterns?” She asked which was valid. “It's a, uh, it's a little-known translation.” Dean said trying to make this seem normal. “Well, Anna's father was a church deacon. When she became ill, her paranoia took on religious overtones. She was convinced the devil was about to rise up and end the world. I hope you find her. It's dangerous for her to be out there alone right now.” She said, I hope we do too. She must be so confused right now.

We walk Up to Anna’s parents house in search of talking to her dad. “Maybe they're not home.” Dean said after he knocked and no one came.”Both cars in the driveway.” Sam said, looking around. Dean tries and the door opens, that's not a good sign. “Mr. And Mrs. Milton?” Dean called out. “We're from the sheriff's department. We just wanted to ask you a couple of questions.” I said out loud and then I looked down at a horrible scene. Anna's parents both dead with their throats cut. I bend and spot the yellow powder. “Sulfur. The demons beat us here. Whatever the deal is with this Anna girl –” Sam said confused as to what was going on.

“Yeah, they want her. They're not screwing around. All right, so, I'm "Girl, Interrupted, and I know the score of the apocalypse, just busted out of the nut-box... Possibly using superpowers, by the way. Where do I go?” Dean said, picking up envelopes. I look at the pictures and see one with Anna and her parents in front of the church. “Hey, you got those sketches from Anna's notebook?” I said looking. “Let me see 'em. Check this out. “ I said pointing out the drawing and the window in the picture.”She was drawing the window of her church.” “Over and over. If you were religious, scared, and had demons on your ass, where would you go to feel safe?” “I would do the same.” I said to be honest.

We enter the church calling Anna's name and going up to the attic. “Guys,” Sam said, getting our attention.” Anna? We're not gonna hurt you. We're here to help. My name is Y/n. These are my brothers, Dean and Sam.” I said approaching carefully. “Sam? Not Sam Winchester?” “And you're Dean. The Dean?” “Then Y/n” She knows our names? “Well, yeah. The Dean, I guess.” Dean said proudly. “It's really you. Oh, my god. The angels talk about you. You were in Hell, but Castiel pulled you out, and some of them think you can help save us. And some of them don't like you at all. They talk about you all the time lately. I feel like I know you. And you Y/n they don't really like you.” “Yeah well that tracks” I said shrugging my shoulders. “So, you talk to angels?” Dean questioned. “Oh, no. No, no way. Um, they probably don't even know I exist. I just kind of... overhear them.” “You overhear them?” “Yeah, they talk, and sometimes I just... hear them in my head.” “Like... right now?” I questioned. “Not right this second, but a lot. And I can't shut them out, there are so many of them.” “So, they lock you up with a case of the crazies when really you were just... tuning in to angel radio?” Dean said. “Yes. Thank you.” “Anna, when did the voices start? Do you remember?” “I can tell you exactly -- September 18th.” The day Dean came back. “The day I got out of Hell.” Dean said, looking at us both. “First words I heard, clear as a bell -- "Dean Winchester is saved."” “What do you guys think?” Dean asked us. “It's above my pay grade, man.” Sam said. “Whatever this is, I have a feeling that it's not good.” I said. “Well, at least now we know why the demons want you so bad. They get a hold of you, they can hear everything the other side's cooking. You're a 1-900-angel.” Dean said to her with a little bit of a flirt in his voice. She seemed like she liked it. “Hey, um, do you know -- are my parents okay? I -- I didn't go home. I was afraid.” Damn I forgot about that, sorry Anna. I'm about to tell her when Ruby walks in. “You got the girl. Good, let's go.” She said in a rush. “Her face!”

Anna said with fear. “Ha I know right.” I said, Ruby probably would have hit me if she could. “It's okay. She's here to help.” Sam said, trying to calm Anna. “Yeah, don't be so sure.” Dean said with disgust. “We have to hurry.” “Why?” I questioned. “Because a demon's coming -- big-timer. We can fight later,Y/n.” “Well, that's pretty convenient -- showing up right when we find the girl with some bigwig on your tail?” Dean said not believing Ruby. “I didn't bring him here. You did.”  “what?” I questioned. “He followed you from the girl's house. We got to go now.” We start to move but I look over to the praying Mary statue that is now crying blood. I'm guessing that's not a good sign. “Guys” I said, stopping them. “It's too late. He's here.” Ruby said fearfully. Sam took Anna into the closet. Then Sam brought out a flask of holy water. “No, Sam, you got to pull him right away.” Ruby said, pushing him to use his powers. “Oh Hell no just wait a sec.” I said not liking this. “Now's not the time to bellyache about Sam going darkside. He does his thing, he exorcises that demon, or we die.” He puts the flask away. Then the demon comes bursting in. Sam tries to use his power but it does not work. “That tickles. You don't have the juice to take me on, Sam.”  The demon throws Sam down on the stairs. Dean goes to attack him with knife but that didn't work either. “Hello again, Dean. Come on, Dean. Don't you recognize me? Oh, I forgot -- I'm wearing a pediatrician. But we were so close... in Hell.” What is he talking about? “Alastair.” Dean said to I guess Alastair with such disdain. Alastair has him pinned against the wall. I go to grab the knife and stab him in the shoulder. “And little Y/n Winchester you know I have always wanted a taste of you. wondering how you squeal when I skin you. If you are as loud as your brother.” He then took out the knife as I looked with horror. “Sorry girly you're gonna have to try a whole lot harder than that.” The three of us looked to the big window all thinking the same thing as we jumped out.

“Are you almost done?” Dean asked in pain from the bathroom as I was sewing Sam’s cut up. Somehow I was not that damaged compared to my brothers. Maybe one of them grabbed me in the fall and I just didn't notice it. All I got was cut from the glass, the worst being on my leg leaving me with a bit of a limp and a couple stitches. “I'm going as fast as I can.” I said, focusing in front of me. “Good, 'cause you know I got a dislocated shoulder over here.” He said walking over to us. Drinking from a whiskey bottle. “I will put it back as soon as I'm done.” Good thing I learned a lot of first aid from the internet and some classes. I also got a lot of practice from when Dean first started to hunt by himself. “Gimme that.” I said as I gestured to the bottle pouring it over the cut. I cringed when Sam made the pained whine. I really got to get a real first aid kit. “So, you lost the magic knife, huh?” Dean said to me as I finished. “Yeah, saving your ass. Who the hell was that demon?” “No one good. We got to find Anna.” Dean said. “Ruby's got her. I'm sure she's okay.” Sam said as he stood next us and me getting ready to set his shoulder back. “All right. Come on. On three. One…” I set his shoulder on one.

“You sure about Ruby? 'Cause I think it's just as likely she used us to find radio girl and then brought that demon in to kill us.” Dean questioned and I was wondering the same thing. “No, she took Anna to keep her safe.” Sam was so sure. “Yeah. Well, why hasn't she called to tell us where she is?” I asked. “Because that demon is probably watching us right now, waiting to follow us right back to Anna again. That's why he let us go.” “You call this letting us go?” “Yeah, I do. Look, killing us would've been no problem to that thing. That's why, for now, we just got to lay low and wait for Ruby to contact us.” “ Sam just be honest why do you trust a demon so much.” I said trying to keep it civil. “I told you.” He said kind of looking down. Yeah there is definitely more to this story. “You got to do better than that. Hey, and we're not trying to pick a fight here. We mean, we really want to understand. But I need to know more. We mean, we deserve to know more.” Dean said, talking for both of us. “Because... she saved my life.”

If it wasn't for her, I wouldn't be here.” I was so pissed and grossed out at the same time. “Sam, why didn't you tell me?’ I said, trying to hold myself back. “I knew you would try to help me as soon as I called. I didn't want to put you in more danger. Also Ruby thought you could get in the way.” I don't think about those other things, just the last line. “What the hell is that supposed to mean?’’ “Ruby said you distract me because I would just worry about you.” Sam said, looking away. “So you trusted a demon over your own sister okay. And I am just as capable of hunting as you and Dean if you guys haven't forgotten I went through the same things as you so stop treating that I'm gonna shoot my eye out every time I pick up my damn gun.”  I said looking at them both. Then there was a knock at the door. “Housekeeping.” “Not Now!” I yelled. I felt bad for yelling but at the same time I didn't.” “Mam, I've got clean towels.” I open the door to tell her no again but she just enters. “Couldn't you just leave 'em at the door?” “I'm at this address.” The maid handed a piece of scrap paper to Sam. “I'm sorry. What?” We were all confused. “Go now. Go through the bathroom window, don't stop, don't take your car, don't pass go. There are demons in the hallway and in the parking lot.” Huh? “Ruby?” OH RUBY. “Okay, yes, so I'm possessing this maid for a hot minute. Sue me.” Oh I'm about to nuclearize this black eyed bitch. “What about –” Sam asked. “Coma girl? Slowly rotting on the floor back at the cabin with Anna, so I've got to hurry back. See you when you get there. Go!”

As we walk up to the cabin Ruby is waiting for us. “Glad you could make it.” She said to us. “Yeah, thanks.” When Sam finished I punched Ruby square in the face. “OW what the Hell!” She said as she was holding her head back.“Y/n!” Sam and Dean said surprised as well. ”That was for telling my brother that I would distract him and that I can't hunt. “ Anna was confused as well. “Does this usually happen?” “Oh you mean my brother choosing a freaking demon over his sister. No but there is a first time for everything.  Are you doing okay Anna.?” I finished my sentence with a smile. “Yeah. I think so. Ruby's-  not like other demons. - She saved my life.” She answered hesitantly after hearing what she did. I looked over at ruby who was holding her nose that was now bleeding. “It's okay Anna, I'm happy she's treating someone with respect.” “Yeah, I hear she does that. I guess I... You know.”  Dean said looking at her and I. “What?” Ruby, who was still holding her nose, answered. “I guess I owe you for... Sam. And I just wanted... you know…” “Don't strain yourself.” “Okay, then. Is the moment over? Good, 'cause that was awkward.” Anna looks back at me.

“Hey, Y/n, you think it'd be safe to make a quick call, just to tell my parents I'm okay? They must be completely freaked.” Oh no I completely forgot about that. “Anna, look your parents, we found them.” “No, they're not…” She is starting to cry now. “Anna, I'm sorry.” “Why is this happening to me?” “I don't know.” Then the walls start to shake a lot. “They're coming.” She said with fear. “Back room.” Dean took Anna to the room. “Where's the knife?” Ruby asked us. “Uh... about that…” “You're kidding.” “Hey, don't look at me.” “Thanks a lot.” I said. “Great. Just peachy. Impeccable timing, guys, really.” “Don't make me punch you again.!” I screamed at her over the loud banging of the walls and the front door bursting open. 

Cas and my favorite angel entered. “Please tell me you're here to help. We've been having demon issues all day.” I asked them. “Well, I can see that. You want to explain why you have that stain in the room?” “Wow Uriel you and I actually agree on something.” I said looking back at Ruby. “We're here for Anna.” Cas said. “Here for her like... here for her?” Dean asked. What is going on? “Stop talking. Give her to us.” Uriel said in a demanding voice. “Are you gonna help her?” I asked. “No, she has to die.” Cas said in his serious voice. Of course she does, it would not be our lives if he didn't say that.

What do i wish i could have seen MORE of?

If my AU posting hasn't made it clear yet, Astral World! Astral is the second protagonist! I've said it before and I'll say it again: he deserved a proper backstory! The other 3 of the 4 poster boys got real backstory episodes, why didn't the second protagonist who is why the whole story even began have even one? (no the birth scene barely counts it has a lot that needs explaining) Don Thousand also needs more backstory as does Eliphas, as I think a lot implies Don was once the Emperor of Astral World (his demon form has a silver version of the golden key attached to it it's HUGE) as well as him just having an identical colour scheme to Zexal, and as for Eliphas, just what does 'Will' mean? Is he literally their will personified, or is it just a title bestowed on him as he's meant to represent and follow the will and want of the people? Astral World had so much it needed to show us and I'm forever salty we never got some proper episodes exploring it.

Is there something I didn’t like in Zexal?

Mizar's random British accent. It will NEVER not annoy me because WHY IS HE BRITISH?!

That, and also they way they wrote Tori. I don't know if it's just a me thing, but the way it was written Skyshipping was way too obvious and too forced, especially as it was there from the start. I'd rather first they establish a clear friendship between characters and then slowly hinting at a crush instead of making it clear that Tori is Love Interest tm. They also I think showed her in duels too many times just screaming Yuma's name, which can be cute but it was severely overdone especially when no one else would react.

A scenario that could have drastically altered Zexal.

Astral talking to Yuma about how he felt about Ray. The jealousy was very clear early on, and it was enough to stain Astral's heart, which is how Vector manipulated him. If Astral had actually spoken to Yuma about his feelings, I think Yuma would have probably just told him what was happening. Yuma's canonically a terrible liar, and he's quick to crack, and at that point in Zexal II especially Astral was his only weakness. Yuma didn't want anything to hurt Astral, so I feel like if Astral had told him he felt upset and hurt because of Yuma's strange actions, Yuma would have crumbled pretty quick and told him exactly what was happening, and that would have definitely altered what came after as Vector would not have been able to manipulate Astral like he did.

Also Bronk sending Yuma's key flying. I don't know which one of y'all made that one meme with the dominos, Bronk and Yuma fighting leading to saving Astral World but you were so right: if the two hadn't disagreed, 96 would not have come out, and Astral wouldn't have been killed by him later, and Yuma then wouldn't have gone to Astral World and saved it. I think there's another meme someone made with the two books with 'Zexal' and then the little book being 'zexal if there were proper fathers' or something, or maybe i'm getting confused with another fandom which also has crappy fathers (the amount of crappy anime fathers is concerning), but either way if we had like ONE actually good father Zexal would have been SO DIFFERENT

And I saw someone once say this and I agree: if Anna had squeezed just a little harder we would have been saved from pretty much ALL of the pain in Zexal II

Rewatching I Know What You Did Last Summer

Welcome to “A Nice Smoky Eye Is the Key to Good Mental Health, But There’s Also Nothing Like a Good Defenestration: A Supernatural Rewatch Blog” with Lor and Mace!

 Up today, s4e9: I Know What You Did Last Summer

 Ruby clues the boys into the case of a young woman who has escaped a psychiatric hospital and who is being hunted by demons. Sam is ready to go check it out, but Dean needs some convincing—he’s still super sus about all things Ruby. When they find the woman, Anna, she tells them she can overhear the angels talking to one another, that this power started the same day Dean escaped hell, and that they think Dean can help them but most of them don’t like Sam at all. Several fights with bad news demons later (and after the revelation that Dean remembers one of them, Alastair, from his time in hell), Sam, Dean, Anna, and Ruby are holed up in a barn when Anna declares “they’re coming” just before Cas Floof Hair and Uriel Shit-Stirrer arrive. Cas declares that Anna must die. Roll credits. Interspersed throughout the episode are flashbacks to Sam’s time alone while Dean was in hell. We learn that Ruby is inhabiting an empty vessel at Sam’s request, that she saved his life, and that they are knocking boots. Dean is very slightly appeased about her, having learned that she saved Sam.

You heard a knock at your door. When you opened the door you saw your best friend there. "Lily!" "Hello y/n!" She waved. You looked behind her back "Where is Hooty?" "He was sleeping... I think. I'm not sure if he can sleep, but if he can I didn't want to disturb him." "Fair enough." You replied. She walked in carrying a bag. "Can I show you a history model I made?" "Of course!" You replied. "Okay, so, this is a model based on houses in the savage ages! A little-known fact is that they had a thatched roof, made by hand." She rambled on, and you listened closely to every word she said.

After what could've been hours or minutes, she stopped her mini-history lesson. "Lily, I might as well be a history expert with how many amazing lessons you've done." "Ah come on, you're going to make me blush. They're not that great." "Come on, no need for humility. They're amazing!" "Let's go eat before you turn me red permanently." You giggled and went to your kitchen. You turned on your stove. "Are you okay with Mac n' Cheese?" "Mhmm." "Okay!" You poured water into a pot and put it on the stove.

"Yn what have you been up to?" "Not much, mainly watching shows and then reading stories about them. I've been really into polliwoga right now." "Would you like to tell me about it?" Lilith asked. "Sure, it starts with a human named Anna being transported to a world of frogs called polliwoga. Her main goal is to get back home." "Heh, kinda like Luz." Lilith interjected. "Kinda yeah," You said. You both paused. "I think the water is done boiling," you said standing up.

As you poured the noodles into the water you saw snow fall from the sky. You checked your scroll. The weather app said that there would be snow. "Lilith it's going to snow, you might need to leave early." "Probably not I've been on trips for the emperor even in the most fearsome storms!" Lilith boasted. "If you're sure," you said, stirring the Mac n' Cheese. After a few minutes of stirring, you scooped the food into two bowls. You placed the bowls on the table. Lililth gotta get some silverware. "Would you prefer a spoon or a fork to eat Mac n' Cheese?" "Lilith asked "I don't really care I guess a fork." "Good choice." Lilith giggled. Both you and Lilith began eating. In between bites, Lilith said, "Say wanna watch that show you were talking about after we're done eating?" "If you're up for it." "Okay." You smiled.

After you were done eating you started watching tv with Lilith. It started with Polliwoga, but eventually, it just turned into you watching random shows and laughing at them. "Lily, I would 'like to watch an episode or two of a historical drama next?' but those would probably make you more annoyed than anything." Once again hammering the meta theme but it is interesting to see how David & Michael’s chemistry really does get stronger as the episodes go on. I’m assuming it was filmed in order so a lot of it is the awkwardness of acting on Zoom I think since they had better chemistry in Good Omens 1 imo. They said they became closer friends through it and it shows

Also feels less ‘actor-y’/more comfortable between them as it goes on, which I get is scripted but you can tell the difference, like when a sitcom cast for many years either starts hating each other at the end or becomes inseparable

tl;dr Overall it’s quite cute! Well written, easy watch, lotta subtle funny moments and back and forths. Interesting to see something that feels like a play as a Zoom TV show, it’s unique. Everyone is having a good time and likes each other and it shows. Not sure I’d come back for a rewatch if not for it (apparently) becoming a lot more meta as it goes on and then whiplashing from funnier in season 2 to major bummer in season 3.

It’s fascinating to see a friendship develop in real time, and even aside from that, it’s written and edited concisely. Based on .gifs I’ve seen it looks like season 2 has a lot more of the iconic/memorable moments. Don’t really see the “love story” aspect yet but I guess that comes in time. (And arguing! I’m excited for arguing. Actors love that shit.)

Started season 2 with episode 1 and already like it more with how meta (this no longer sounds like a word) it’s getting. Cool concept and I’m glad it exists

When they reached Bobby's lot, they moved Anna into the panic room. 

“Iron walls drenched in salt. Demons can't even touch the joint.” Commented Dean, knocking on the walls of the room. Ruby, from the other side of the door, was looking around, disgusted. Emily joined them from the stairs just in time to hear the demon complain: “Which I find racist, by the way.”

“Well that's sad…“ Emily said, sarcastic, walking behind Ruby as she handed Dean some hex bags. “Looks like you won't be able to have the threesome you were hoping for.” 

“Very funny.” Answered the demon, giving Emily her protective bundle. 

“Anna, what's playing on angel radio? Anything useful?” Asked Dean, rolling his eyes at the conversation behind him. 

“It's quiet, dead silence.” 

Just at that moment, Sam joined them as well in the basement. 

“That's not troubling at all.” Continued Dean, ironic. Sam silently took his hex bag. 

“We're in trouble, huh? You guys are scared?” Asked Anna, sitting in the chair in the middle of the room, almost perfectly still. She had a weird vibe, as if she was too calm. Too still. 

Dean, with a strong exhale, said “Nah.”. Sam and Emily exchanged a complicit look as they started to catch some interest their brother had towards Anna. 

However, Sam called Dean's attention to show him the research he had done. 

He closed the panic room's heavy door and the siblings left Anna behind, with Ruby guarding her, and walked back upstairs.

“What've you got?” Asked Emily, rifling through some paper Sam had just placed on the table.

“Uh, not much. Her parents were, uh, Rich and Amy Milton: a church deacon and a housewife.”

“No wonders she went crazy.” Scoffed Dean.

“Yeah. But there is something here in the report. Turns out this latest psych episode wasn't her first. When she was 2 1/2, she'd get hysterical any time her dad got close. She was convinced that he wasn't her real daddy.”

“Who was?” Asked Dean. “The plumber, mh? A little snaking the pipes?”

“Dude, that's for sure the plot of a porn that was in that motel in Ohio.” Emily answered, putting down the paper. “The plummer used his dick to clean the sink?” 

“Exactly! Wait, how-”

“Guys?!” Sam interrupted Dean and Emily rambling about the porn video and kept explaining. “Anna didn't say who her real father was, but she said he was very mad and wanted to kill her.”

“At 2 years old? That’s not fun.” Said Dean. Emily sat down on the couch as they spoke.

“Well, she saw a kid's shrink, got better, and grew up normal.”

“Until now. So, what's she hiding?”

“Why don't you just ask me to my face?” Said Anna’s voice from on top of the stairs. Ruby, behind her, stood, bored with her arms crossed.

“Nice job watching her.” Said Emily, sarcastic.

“I'm watching her, demon-barbie.” Answered Ruby, annoyed. 

“No, you're right, Anna.” Sam interrupted Emily, who was about to answer back. “Is there anything you want to tell us?”

While Anna told them about how she had no idea what was going on, Emily was leaning on the wall, distracted. 

All she could think about was Dean crying. It was like an image stuck in the back of her brain, a constant reminder of the shit they went through. She had spent year and year in hell, just regretting every single fight she had ever had with him. Everytime the clock ticked, she was reminded that, even if she wanted to stop fighting with Dean, it seemed like she was failing over and over in her task of keeping peace. All she wanted was for the fighting to stop, but life seemed to have other plans. 

Sam had the idea of calling Pamela, a friend of their father who had helped them with psychic matters before. 

Dean offered to pick her up and bring her back:“Sammy, wanna tag along?” He asked, searching in his pockets for the car keys. 

“It's probably better if I stay here.” He pointed at Ruby. “But maybe Emily can come with you?” 

Come on, man! She glared at him.

What, I heard you before, I thought you wanted to stop the fighting, right?

Yeah, not being forced to spend three hours with him!

If you want the fighting to stop, you need to talk about what's bothering you!

“What are those two doing?” Said Ruby, raising one eyebrow and pointing at Sam and Emily who had just started gesturing in front of their faces. 

I don't want to be stuck with him for hours, you know he's not gonna talk-

“Telepathy. They keep forgetting that we can't hear them, but we can still see them!”

Well then you force him to!

 Dean snapped his fingers in the middle of the siblings, finally getting their attention. “Hey!” 

Emily turned to him. “What?!”

“You're being weird- you know what, it doesn't matter, we have a long way to go, let's just leave.” 

Emily walked a couple of steps while still looking back at Sam, who showed her a sarcastic thumbs up, but then followed Dean outside the house and into the Impala. 

“By the way, you really need to learn how to not let people know you're talking telepathically- It's not a very useful power if everybody knows you're using it.” Said Dean, starting the engine. 

“Right.” 

Either of them spoke for a couple of hours as Dean was focused on driving and Emily did her best to distract herself by reading a lore book she had in her bag. 

“What' you reading, kid?” Dean tried to lift the cover to see the title. 

“It's one volume of Edda.” 

“Cool.”

“Yeah.” Muttered Emily, knowing full well Dean probably had no idea what Edda was. 

Dean started tapping his fingers on the steering wheel, humming on the notes of the classical tunes he was playing on the radio. “You like this song?” He asked. 

“I guess.” Answered Emily, distracted.

After a little more silence, Dean spoke again. “Do you remember that time-”

“Dean!” She finally lifted her eyes off her book, annoyed. “I'm trying to read!”

“I'm just trying to have a conversation, you know.” 

“Well, I don't really want to talk right now.” 

Exhaling, Dean went back to staring at the road for a while. 

“Emily?” He asked, about an hour later.

“What now?!” 

“I need to say something to you.” 

Emily closed her book, annoyed. “Alright, I'm all ears.” 

“You were right.” Said Dean.

“Can you be more specific?” She asked.

“I was a dick to you when Sam died and- I know you think it was stupid to bring him back, but-”

“Actually, I- I started regretting not bringing him back like two days after we burned him.” She exhaled. “There. I admitted it. But I knew it wasn't the right thing, so I didn't let you do it.” 

“Well, you were right. And when he came back… Explaining to him what happened to you and how you were gone was… Too hard.” 

Emily stared in front of her for a bit, thinking about Dean's words. “I get it.” She sighed. “I don't approve of it, but I get it.” 

 “I know, sorry. You- When you died, it really was a slap in the face. Cops showed up at Bobby's and- I felt like I failed you and as if it was my fault and now- now there's this hell thing and…“ He trailed off. 

“About that.” Said Emily, shifting in her seat. “I'm sorry about this morning. I spent one hundred years regretting fighting with you and letting us escalate as much as we did, but then I came back and I let it happen all over again.”

“One hundred years?” 

Emily exhaled, realizing she had just revealed something about hell she was not supposed to. 

“That's an expression, you know.” She tried to convince Dean. He raised an eyebrow and briefly glared at her. 

”...Is it? Because that was my next point, Emily. Hell didn't feel- It didn't feel like four months. More like thirty years.” 

Emily exhaled. “Mine did feel like one hundred.” She admitted. “Give or take, I honestly lost track. I almost stopped counting when you-” 

“I'm sorry. Really.” 

“It's not about the apology, man. While I was down there… I thought about you and about how I fucked it all up. I kept thinking that if I ever got a redo, I would not be a fucking bitch to you, but you're making it really hard, Dean.” 

“So what you're saying is you want us to be siblings? For real?” 

“I want us to try and be siblings. Yes.” 

They later arrived back at Bobby's, together with Pamela. Emily holed up in her room to do research, hoping to get some calm time. Having so many people around, all giving different info and opinions, was stressing her out. So she changed out of her clothes, put on one of Sam's old t-shirts and sat on the bed with a pile of books on her side. She was deep into her reading when someone knocked on the open door frame. She raised her gaze to see Sam. 

“Hey kid.” He said, smiling. “How you doing, got anything interesting?” 

“Not really.” She exhaled, closing the book she had on her legs. “You?” 

“Got nada. Are you okay? You've been up here for a while.” 

“Yeah, all is good. I spoke with Dean, we… We got somewhere, I guess.” 

“Really?” Sam entered the room, Emily gestured him to sit on the bed. “I thought you'd be happier.” 

“I don't know, Sam- I'm tired as fuck. This whole Anna thing is very stressful.” 

“Do you want some help with those?” Sam pointed to the books and papers she had laying around her. She shrugged and handed him a book. He made himself comfortable on the other side of the bed. “So, will you and Dean be in peace now? For real?” 

“Well, I'll try, but… It wouldn't be the first time it all goes to shit.” Sam's face tightened up a little and he resumed his reading. It wasn't long before someone else interrupted their silence. Ruby entered the room. “Ah, here you are. My favourite nerd and- well, you.” She pointed at Emily, disgusted. 

“Love you too, girl.” Said Emily, sarcastic, without taking her eyes away from her book. “You got anything useful or are you just here because you want to have sex with Sam?” 

“What, jealous?” 

“Cut it out- I think I found something.” Sam interrupted them. “Here. In march '85, a meteorite vanished in the night sky over northwestern Ohio. It was sighted nine months before Anna was born, and she was born in that part of Ohio.”

“Wait-” Said Emily. “I got a meteor on the same day, just over Kentucky.” She handed him a piece of newspaper. 

“Must be her grace.” Nodded Sam. 

“All right. That just narrows it down to an entire state.” Said Ruby, annoyed. “Sam... I'm sorry.”

“For what?” Asked Sam. Emily scowled at the demon. 

“For bringing you this mess. If I had known, I would have kept my trap shut.”

“It’s easy to say it now, maybe you should have thought of it earlier.” Spat Emily, bitter. 

“I’m not talking to you, barbie.” 

“You’re not? Because last time you seemed pretty keen on having me on your team!” 

“You b-”

“Hey!” Interrupted Sam. 

Emily and Ruby both turned to him. “What?!” 

“This is not the time- Listen. We’ll muddle through, okay?”

“Not this time. You do not want to get between these two armies. It's Godzilla and Mothra. If one side doesn't get us, the other one will.” At these words, Emily rolled her eyes. 

“So, what do you want to do? Dump Anna and run?” Emily let the two talk and started sorting the paper and books. “Forget it. Look, I know the angels freak you out.” Continued Sam.

“Forget the angels. It's Alastair I'm scared of.”

“Alastair?”

“You met him in the church. Practically the grand inquisitor downstairs. Picasso with a razor.” Emily shivered. “And you should pull him out and throw him back in the pit... if you weren't so out of shape.”

“Ruby-” 

“No, your abilities… you're getting flabby. You know what you got to do.” 

“Stop-” Sam gazed over at Emily, who had stop clearing her space and was looking at him, confused. “No, I'm not doing that anymore.”

“Well, then you better either convince your sister to join us, or pray that Anna gets her groove back, or we're all dead.” Said the demon as she left the room.

Emily and Sam remained alone. “Sam, what was that about?” 

“Forget it, it's- it's not important.” 

“Doesn't look or sound like it.” 

“Really. Forget it.” 

There was a fight. Castiel and Uriel showed up, as well as Alastair. As they fought, Emily dislocated a shoulder. As Dean packed ice on it, she sat on the couch, the same couch where they fought after Sam died. 

“So, one hundred years, uh?” Said Dean, pressing the ice on her shoulder as she winced in pain. 

“Dean, please, we don't have to talk about that now.” 

“Of course, just- does that make you 125?” Dean smiled, amused. Emily thought about it for a second. 

“Dean, does that mean… Am I technically older than you?” 

Dean scowled at her, regretting his joke. “Absolutely not.” He said. 

“Dude- I just won the oldest sibling's privileges.”

“That's- that's not a real thing!” 

“Oh, I'll show you if it's not a real thing.” She giggled. “Also, dude, you had sex with an angel?!” 

“What?! How do you-” 

“I know everything. It's my oldest sibling's brain.” She pointed at her head, smiling.

“Yeah, right.”

“Also, it was super obvious. You know, you kissed in front of us. You doing okay?”

“I'll live.”

V, V, V — Day 19 : Cave

There is a fair chance you will have realised by now that I don’t have a lot of time for “professional” philosophers. Or, quite honestly, for “amateur” philosophers.

I am, for the most part, with Tom Lehrer on the topic of philosophers — that they spend most of their time giving helpful advice to people who are happier than they are.

And, after watching “The Good Place”, my feelings were somewhat re-enforced, because Chidi Anna Kendrick, for all that he is a good person, really is only a good person by the end and at the start he is an annoying twat who you just want to repeatedly punch with a chainsaw. (He is a professor of moral philosophy, just in case you were wondering).

I like the ideas of philosophies, and so I suppose (indirectly) the “classic philosophers” (Kant, Locke and so on — The Good Place taught me a lot about philosophies but I can’t entirely remember much about the men who created them. Although apparently I can remember they were all men) but mostly it is the philosophies that I remember.

And like most people (I would imagine) my philosophy for life has been derived from a great deal of other philosophies. Some of which I can put names to (utilitarianism, deontology and so on) and some that I probably can’t put names to (although they probably are based on existing ideas. I am not saying I am not a genius the likes of which the world has never seen, but I suspect I probably haven’t come up with a whole new theory of philosophy).

Everyone — whether they realise it or not — has a philosophy in life. Whether it is “seize the day” (terrible advice — just look at what happens when Willow does it, when Buffy does it, when Xander does it….. it ends badly every single time. Do not ever seize the day — you will get attacked by a demon who wants to bring the world to an end), “live every day like it is your last” (better, but it does mean you will almost certainly be wrong every day of your life), “be excellent to one another” (truly outstanding advice) or “life is a bitch and then you die” (maybe the only real advice you will ever get), everyone has a philosophy.

But what about how you approach day to day life? How do you believe in “The Greater Good”? (Which is a version of utilitarianism) Or do you believe that no matter what is at stake, you have to do what is right? (Which I think is deontology, but I might have misunderstood it) If you make a promise to someone do you keep it? Or can you break a promise if you need to?

And just how detailed is your philosophy — if you have hard and fast rules do you have exceptions to them?

I just wonder about these things sometimes — do people who say they live their lives by “a strict set of rules” specifically keep to those rules all the time? Or do they break their rules as they see fit and just don’t tell anyone?

As I said — I get curious about it.

Me?

My philosophy is kind of simple when you get down to it, and despite watching all of the episodes of The Good Place, and taking in everything that Chidi Ariana Grande said in, the entire basis of it comes from an episode of Angel that aired twenty two years ago.

The more detailed version takes bits from certain other theories, but mostly I think that we are very small people in a very big world, so nothing we do matters. And because nothing we do matters, all that matters is what we do. If there is no bigger meaning — if we can’t change anything, and I really believe we can’t — then all we can do is make the world better through small acts of kindness.

And the only other rule I have (and this is where it gets kind of self-referential) is that I don’t have any rules that I am not willing to break if circumstances required them to be broken. (I know — it is like saying “Only the Sith deal in absolutes” which is one of the most ridiculous statements you will ever hear).

If you are curious as to how this relates to cave, it is partly in relation to the dog of darkness, but also in relation to perceptions of reality.

But more of that later.

FUCK its good...au/time travel where dean is not pulled out of hell by cas and says yes to becoming the michael sword. honestly could serve as an alternative to actually watching the show, if you want to get into dean/cas without actually doing that to yourself.

Fata morgana.*  - teen/6k, pst s9 finale. very bela centric and i love it, she finds cas looking for dean in hell.

Redemption Road -misc/600+k. an incredibly long fic from a collaborative writing group back in the day. canon divergent from the end of s6 on, has a cool take on godstiel and the leviathans, as well as the lovecratian mythos connection. ngl when i reread it i only made it about 28% in but imo the casual reader can actually stop around there, the rest concerns a lovecraftian apocalypse that is still good (i think i don’t remember it very well) but not required to enjoy the first half. if you prefer i have an ebook version i can send you on gdrive.

Someone Who's Feeling For Me* - mature/45k, s12. they run into lisa braeden and dean thinks cas is into her while cas thinks dean still likes her. treats lisa way better than the show ever did and the miscommunication is pretty funny rather than annoying.

a turn of the earth - mature/95k. time travel fic where cas from s10 keeps showing up in deans life from a few years before s1 to right before the hellhounds take his soul.  slow burn, good character study, and at one point cas punches the dad in the face and it rules.

On the Wings of War - teen/85k, canon divergent s5. dean accidentally becomes the Horseman of War. plays fun, fast and loose with biblical lore, michael has some rights.

Named - mature/95k, alternate s5. EXTREMELY blasphemous in a fun sexy way. manages to predict metatron almost to a T. there’s one major character death and its literally jesus christ, everyone is very sad about it and it sets the rest of the story rolling. an alternate interpretation of cas’ mission to raise dean from hell which had me on the floor. ngl its kind of misogynistic at points, but its from 2010 and tracks with late oughts-2010 spn (sorry anna the author did you dirty here:/).

The Girlfriend Experience - explicit/15k. uhhh i don’t normally rec or even read smutty stuff unless someone i know is specifically asking for it but this has stuff like sam trying to be a good ally and dean thinking holding hands with cas is ‘kinda gay :/’ minutes after having gay sex with him.

i crippled your heart a hundred times - explicit/19k, s8. cas confesses his feelings and dean spends a long time getting his head out of his ass about it. truly hits different after the actual confession, despite being written six years early it feels like its actually what could have gone down more or less if the writers weren’t talentless demons who hate us.

My Roots Take Flight** - mature/125k. reverse au where cas is a hunter and dean’s an angel...OR IS IT???? an alternate retelling of s4. tw for briefly being set in a psychiatric hospital/the hospital being mentioned somewhat frequently throughout the fic, plus more references to torture in hell and heaven than usual.

The One Thing You Can't Lose* - teen/4k.you know those posts about how cas is a super-strong super-tough ancient warrior but he just lets dean tug him around because he likes it? thats it thats the fic.

Hands, From Which All Things Are Built - teen/14k, post s8′s ‘goodbye stranger.’ cas is on the run with the angel tablet but keeps in touch with sam and dean by text, he and dean still manage to be terrible at Actual communication.

Autrement, Danger - or, The Account of an Exceedingly Long Day - mature/30k, post s11. a monster that takes the appearance of your soulmate leads to some wild miscommunications and dealing with years of repression, also dean gets to see cas’ true form which is always cool. tw for non-graphic mentions of underage sexual assault/sex work.

Down to Agincourt - mature/explicit/900++++k, endverse continuation. endverse!cas survives his encounter with lucifer and discovers another time-displaced dean from s7. i’ve only read the two of four parts but its really good, veeeeery slow burn, has a lot of fun oc’s and takes a rather surprising but (imo) entertaining and intriguing turn into Hellenic history and mythology. usual tw’s for endverse/endverse!cas but nothing graphic, it’s actually pretty light-hearted (relatively speaking of course).

Nothing Equals the Splendor** - explicit/8k, THEE finale fix it fic you’ve been waiting for! posits that the entire final episode was just a (very bad and lame) djinn’s vision.

like moses and batman and james dean - explicit/31k, post s8. explores dean’s trauma and internalized homophoba from his technically canon experience with sex work and its impact on his relationship with cas. the sex work itself isn’t really shown in any detail but it’s still a relatively heavy fic.

Crazy Diamonds - explicit/25k, s4/alternate s14. fresh-out-of-hell dean and dean from 10 years in the future are displaced from time and sent to each other’s present.

where the weeds take root - explicit/30k. au where the men of letters kick them out of the bunker and they accidentally move out into the country, get over their codependence and semi retire. featuring chicken coop building, sam volunteering at a dog shelter, gardening, and blissfully mundane domesticity.

No Resting Place - teen/6k. djinn dream fic, switches back and forth between cas’ dream of being married to dean and retired from hunting to the aftermath when he wakes up. tw for brief mention of suicide since, y’know, djinn dream.

any port in a storm - mature/52k. post s8 finale. cas and dean have to pose as a couple going through a rough patch for a case and actually deal with their emotional baggage, cas struggles with being human and metatron is up to stuff.

Emergence - explicit/59k, canon divergent after s11. dean meets a hunter he only recognizes as their friend claire novak’s missing father, but soon realizes he might be the answer behind the mysterious void in his memories and feelings (aka everyone’s memories of cas are completely wiped away for three years).

Oh here’s the mary prequel mini series I plotted out in my head last night. cut for length because im polite but it is not That long

Episode one: mary walks into a fairly empty diner. Sits down at the counter pretty close to some woman she’s never seen before. Orders coffee. Sits there twisting her ring till it comes. Lady she’s never seen before looks her way and says rough night? And mary laughs and says rough few nights. Lady puts down her newspaper and says you look like you need to talk about it. And mary blurts out that she’s thinking about leaving her husband because he’s so boring. Woman listens sympathetically then launches into a perfect speech about marriage being a commitment and she should stay with him and tell him she loves him. Mary is like. Yeah. Okay. Goes back home to try to rekindle things but when she starts trying to tell John how much she loves him she tells him she’s leaving. John says ok. Mary is super relieved. She goes upstairs to pack. Hears someone at the bedroom door while she’s facing her dresser to pack, turn around, it’s John. He shoots her, she dies.

MARY wakes up next to John as he gets ready for work. Brushes it off as a SUPER weird dream and more proof that she does in fact need to leave. After john’s gone she throws together a suitcase then hops in the impala (John carpools) and drives till she hits a gas station. She goes in to pay and the cashier feels weirdly familiar till she realizes it’s the lady from her dream. She is understandably more freaked out. The cashier tells her to have a nice trip home. Mary says she’s not going home. The cashier asks her if she wants to talk about. Mary doesn’t respond and goes to fill up the car and then drives a couple of miles  out of town before the car starts making this awful sound. She jumps out to look at it. Car is now smoking. She starts backing up and in a freak accident the car explodes and kills her.

Mary wakes up next to John as he’s getting ready for work.

Rest of the season: mary goes through a few more loops thinking they’re nightmares especially because she keeps seeing the same woman she’s never seen before and she keeps trying to talk to Mary. Eventually mary snaps and screams at the lady to leave her alone and the lady kind of furtively looks around and says I’m trying to help. Mary says I don’t WANT your help and then hightails it and dies again. After a few more loops where the woman is present but never approaches mary, mary stalks up to her and says. Who are you. Lady very wryly says your guardian angel. Mary says how can you help. Lady says you don’t want my help. Mary goes well I changed my mind I want it now. Lady grabs her hands and looks at her and very earnestly says, no, you don’t want my help. weird! Mary leaves. Dies. For awhile mary keeps meeting with the lady just because she’s a semi comforting constant. Lady keeps giving her advice that’s more and more rote just go back to your husband, until eventually she stops doing that and just listens to Mary. When Mary asks what she thinks instead of launching into the stay with him speech she just stands up and says I need to go.

Their meetings after this are pretty similar: the lady will listen, the lady will tell her it’s a hard decision, but when mary asks her what to do instead of saying “go back” like usual, the lady sighs and says she needs to go before she disappears. Eventually mary stops asking because she doesn’t want the lady to disappear so soon. they start spending the day just hanging out. mary takes her to her favorite places in town and asks if she likes them, asks what the lady wants to do, the whole nine yards. day always ends with mary trying to leave john and having a sudden aneurysm/tripping and cracking her skull/etc. after a couple of weeks of this her and the lady hook up and the lady tells mary that her name is anna.

mary dies again and the next day when she sees anna just starts crying about how she doesn’t want to go back. ends her rant with “and i know what you’re going to say, or what you’re not going to say, but just don’t. please.” anna holds her and holds her and after several minutes of silence says “i think you should leave.” mary’s shocked, anna’s shocked, mary has a heart attack and dies.

the next day mary tells anna that she wants to leave with her. anna looks conflicted and terrified but nods. while they’re driving or w/e anna is like mary. this isn’t going to work. you know this isn’t going to work. but i think - look. listen. we don’t have a  lot of time. i think i know how to break this. i wrote it down, you’ll have to translate it - and then anna screams and she’s just Not There anymore. this freaks mary the fuck out while she’s driving, she crashes, dies.

mary spends the next morning hitting all the places she’s seen anna before. nothing. she tears up her house and all these places looking for the journal anna was holding before she disappeared. nothing. she gets more and more frustrated and it’s only after she like completely destroys an aisle at the gas station to no response from anyone that she realizes something is more wrong than usual. she goes back out to her car and there’s this guy leaning against it who goes. hi.

she asks who he is, he tells her to call him chuck. she asks what he wants, he says to help her. she doesn’t trust this for obvious reasons. she asks where anna is. he shrugs and says she’s under performance review. she asks if anna’s okay. he laughs and says oh yeah, she’s gonna be a perfect little angel for about the next ten years. then she’s going to have a great life. very loved by her parents. their little miracle baby, you know?

she asks what he really wants. he shrugs. same thing you want, really. for this whole thing to be done with. mary asks what he means. he waves a hand at her. the groundhog day thing. oh. forgot you don’t know what that is yet. the time loop thing. leaving, dying. leaving, dying. look. just go back home to your ever so loving husband, and everything will be fine.

i don’t want to go back to my husband, mary says. you love him, chuck says. i don’t know that i do, mary says. chuck frowns and tilts his head at her. sighs, twists his hand. mary feels like she just got stabbed in the heart. what did you do, she asks. do you love him? and she thinks about it. and she says. yeah. and then she thinks about it some more. and says but i dont like him. i dont like my husband. chuck claps his hands together and says. okay! what don’t you like? he’s boring. chuck smiles. boring! i can work with boring. perfect apple pie boy from kansas not doing it for you, huh? what about this. what about if he was from... illinois. what if it’s just been him and his mom since he was a kid, because his dad stepped out on them. what if the war made him a little harder, which you like more than him staying kind after the war. chuck laughs. oh, i like that a lot better actually. that’s what we’re running with. mary doesn’t say anything to this.

chuck asks her if she’s ready to go back home to her new and improved husband. mary says anna had a journal. so she did, chuck says, and hands it to her. it’s written in sumerian, so good luck with that. you can spend awhile trying to track down a translator, or. he waves his hand, and it all reads in english. she skims through it. will it work? she asks, and chuck snorts. no. of course not. you’re welcome to try. i’ll be here when you’re done. she leaves. tries the spell or whatever. tells john she’s leaving. dies. when she wakes up the next morning, chuck’s sitting at her table. we done with this? he asks, and mary stabs him. he pulls out the knife, looking annoyed. okay, yeah. we’re done with this, he says, and waves a hand and mary gets struck by lightning.

she wakes up. john’s getting ready for work. there are a few cues that tell us this is the same day. john looks over before he leaves and sees that mary’s crying. he’s very confused. asks her what’s wrong. i don’t know, she says. i don’t know. he asks if he should call his mom. she says no. he asks if he should skip work. she says no. he tells her he loves her. she says i love you too, and he leaves. she spends the day pretty dazed. wanders around town not realizing she’s hitting all the spots where she saw anna. goes to a park where a guy runs into her. it’s chuck. oh, sorry. he says. it’s okay, she says, not recognizing him. great day, huh, he says, and she nods, not really paying attention. bet your husband’s enjoying it, he says, and when she looks confused he points to her ring. oh. yeah. she says. sorry, excuse me, she says, i have to get home. i need to start dinner. he smiles at her, winks, and says her husband’s a lucky man.

they eat together. they sleep together. when mary wakes up it’s a new day. she smiles at john before he leaves and kisses him when he gets back home. end miniseries

The Legend of Vox Machina: Scanbo (1x07)

Ahhh god, this show just keeps getting better and better.

Cons:

Most of my "cons" in this one are going to be small, mostly nitpicks. I really loved Percy's flashback sequence where he talks about having the dream of making a gun, but I wish there had been a bit more clarity earlier in the season that nobody else in this world has guns, that this is a Percy-specific weapon that he invented. I can imagine a newcomer to the story being confused by that element, where everyone is suddenly like "what is a gun, though?" when nobody has seemed confused by it before.

On a personal preference note, there were a couple Scanlan jokes that I didn't appreciate this week... that weird incest joke at the beginning about Percy and Cass? Like, why? I did like that Vex and Vax told him off in unison, showing that they're united even after their little spat over Keyleth which I'll discuss in a minute. Also, I know there was a lot of poop humor in the campaign, but I didn't literally need to see Duke Vedmire's shit... I'm not saying these are real problems with the episode, just jokes I was unimpressed by.

And this is a nitpick, it really is, but during the truly excellent Scanbo sequence, Scanlan escapes to the roof and then is "trapped" up there. Later, he uses Scanlan's Hand to beat up Vedmire and escape, which looks cool, it just kind of annoyed me that he didn't think of using it earlier when he was stuck on the roof. It was the first thing I thought of, and I felt like it was contrived that he didn't do the obvious thing to get away.

Pros:

Literally this whole episode was amazing, though, and the two that followed it are equally strong... god, this show is something else.

Starting the episode with a Percy and Cassandra flashback was such a smart thing to do. Establishing Professor Anders, and the bond between the siblings, makes everything about the following sequences with Anders hit all the harder. It works better than the Stonefell episode, honestly, because we get a little more setup and time to ruminate in who this man was and why Percy would have him on his List. Plus young Percy and Cassandra are so stinking cute.

I'm going to make a brief confession here, which is that I've always been something of a Perc'ildan shipper. Don't get me wrong, I love the canon ships, but Vax and Percy have an incredibly rich and complex friendship over the course of the stream, and when I was thinking of all the things I probably wouldn't get to see play out in the animated show for lack of time and significance, I was sure that Vax and Percy moments wouldn't make the cut. But these three episodes are rife with amazing moments for these two, which gives me so much hope that their unique relationship will get time to shine in later seasons, when Certain Things occur. (If you know you know.) In this episode, we start off the story proper after the flashback with Vax being super mad at Percy, threatening to kill him if he ever points his gun at any of them ever again. I love how furious he is, worked up and rightfully alarmed, but at no point does he run off and leave Percy to his fate, and as we'll see over the next couple episodes, he's willing to die fighting by the side of my friend. This is the good shit, y'all.

And despite my small point above, I really did love Percy's backstory of creating the gun. Great imagery, such an anime backstory vibe, really upping the stakes and helping to explain the true extent of how dark Percy is willing to go for the sake of his revenge. I love how he says that he's been inspired before, so why does it matter that it came to him in a weird creepy dream? He's so clearly repressing things, so clearly in denial, and the group can see it right in front of their eyes but it's hard to actually do anything about it. I didn't catch it the first time around, but when he's talking about the name on each chamber of his gun: Stonefell, Anders, Delilah, Sylas, and Anna, Scanlan asks about the sixth barrel, and the shadow on the wall behind Percy is pointing the gun at his own head. Those who know the original campaign might be a bit baffled since this isn't exactly the answer that Matt and Taliesin had in mind for that last barrel, but it was a fucking amazing and spooky image that solidifies the intensity and darkness of this story all the more.

Keyleth and the Sun Tree! What an amazing subplot we're seeing, which we know will have a great payoff by the end. The visual of the tree weakened by necrotic decay, the beautiful music of the Sun Tree trying to communicate with Kiki... all of it was great. Then of course she accidentally starts a fire, setting Vex off, and Vax rushes to defend her... I absolutely love all the points of strain we're seeing between the various members of the group. It's like Whitestone and the stress of their situation is bringing everything to the surface. Vex and Vax's codependency, Keyleth and Vax's romance, so many little aspects that can be revealed in between the drive of the main story. I loved that shot of the twins glaring at each other, before Archie cuts in and brings the focus back to the task at hand.

This is a Scanlan Shorthalt-centric episode, and by god, I love this horny little gnome with all my heart. I've talked a lot already about how the Whitestone arc was when the streaming show went from "good" to "holy shit this is amazing", and a lot of that was the darkness of the story-line, a lot of that was Taliesin Jaffe pulling out the fucking indescribably good RP. But then there's Scanbo, a moment I will never forget watching for the first time with my jaw dropped in disbelief. "I'm going to kill everyone in this mu'fucking house," Sam Riegel said, and he fucking did it. So good. And this episode managed to capture so much of what I loved in the original, and add some character development stakes to it that weren't there before.

We start with Scanlan trying to convince the group of his value, while the others are skeptical. Grog laughs, Vax says he'll go instead, Vex is dismissive... but Scanlan insists. He's not the stabby guy who charges in and kills the villains. He's loud, he's annoying, he's built to be a distraction, and right now they need a distraction to draw guards away from Anders and save Cass. This sets up the stakes for his own individual arc, and also helps to solidify his position in the group as somewhat the damsel in distress: he's super skilled in his special areas, but he's not meant to be the one in the thick of things, which is why he's always in such terrible mortal peril whenever an enemy actually gets a hit on him. It makes you nervous for what's going to happen when Scanlan goes on his solo mission, but also excited to see the chaos. And oh boy, the chaos....

Scanlan sing-narrating his break-in to Duke Vedmire's place, anxious but determined... Scanlan sneaking in to find Vedmire on the toilet... just, y'all, the whole Scanbo sequence... they managed to capture the chaos and hilarity of that part in the show in a way I never would have imagined. The guards playing D&D, the misty step potion, shrinking potion, and then FIRE BREATH potion, then the scroll that was set up back in episode five, then TRICERATOPS SCANLAN LET'S GOOOO. Fire everywhere, Scanlan on a rampage, then up on the roof, bloodied and pinned down, flipping Vedmire off, dueling Vedmire with Scanlan's hand... lightning from his dick...

I'm sorry, it's just iconic. Legendary. Scanlan Shorthalt, everyone. What a guy. Whatever else you can say about the dude, he's not lacking for self-confidence, and it pays off in a big way.

Meanwhile the absolute chaos of Scanlan's scenes are cut through with the rest of the gang waiting with the resistance back in the hideout. I can't believe this, but Vex and Scanlan's relationship has really become a highlight of the season for me. She's so worried about him, and she and Percy have this wonderful moment where Percy is talking about what an annoying nuisance Cassandra always was when they were kids, and Vex says she sounds like Scanlan. What a perfect tender little moment. Also, Vex calling Percy "darling" gets me every goddamn time. Just the greatest. I know this essentially goes without saying at this point, but the voice acting in this show is so good. I get distracted, pulled completely in by their performances, but every once in a while I'm like... oh yeah, that's Laura Bailey and Taliesin Jaffe and they're so fucking good at their jobs. Yeesh.

So towards the end of the episode, Scanlan has set the house on fire, guards are rushing to Vedmire's aid, and it's go time for the rest of the crew. They break into Anders's house, come across some guards, Grog goes into a rage, and Percy chases after Anders. He finds him in his study, knife to Cassandra's throat... points a gun at him... and then Anders does it, he cuts Cass's throat and drops her to the floor, bleeding to death.

End of episode.

This is an adaptational change from the stream that I 100% approve of. In the original, Vax is the one to come across Cassandra with Anders's knife to her throat, and he rushes in and starts combat right away, knowing that saving Cass has to be a priority. He nearly dies for his trouble. It's some of my favorite stuff from the stream, to be honest, the whole Anders fight is just EPIC in every way in the original, but giving that moment to Percy is just narratively the right thing to do, and cuts some unnecessary Vax-related drama from the proceedings. I love that Percy has his gun pointed at Anders, a man on his List, and yet he says he'll consider letting him go if he releases Cassandra. He's probably full of shit, the vengeance inside of him probably wouldn't allow such a thing, but it speaks to how much Cass has become his priority even in the midst of his larger quest. What a cliffhanger, too! God, the hits just keep coming!

The pacing of this episode is break-neck in the best way, I was completely gripped in the momentum the whole way through, between Scanlan's chaos and the assault on Anders's home, which is going to break right into an amazing action sequence in the next installment. God, I really could not be more impressed with how they've adapted some of the most iconic stuff from the Briarwood arc in the stream. Just stunning, y'all.

To start off, I wanna say that I am not an Anna hater, because I think she might be a decent human irl. Like, she is still a human being and Sheen has been with her for a while now, so she must'nt be all bad. I genuinely think she is just trying to make her dreams come true with her acting, and that she also realises this might be the only way 'in' for her without a high level of talent. And to be frank, she doesn't seem to be quite up to level of smooching needed within the industry to make that work either, so she probably isn't an industry snake either. So yeah, who knows, she might be lovely irl to hang out with. But still, as an actress myself, some things just irk me about this whole situation. Like, obviously the continuing favouritism within this little world of theirs annoys me to some extend (which I hate to say Michael, David and Georgia and now Neil are as much a part of as Anna herself), but I also know myself how hard it can be to get a job in a small local production, let alone something big like this. So I realise connections and smooching up are usually a necessary evil in this netflix era, and I can respect that. However, I also know that most people who then get one of these jobs by a favourable connection can actually act to some degree. They usually won't be the Shakespearean actor/actress of the 21st century, but they'll manage to hold their own. But in what I saw Anna do (which admittedly isn't much, just this Sandman episode and Staged), she appears to even lack the skills and feelings necessary to actually be 'acting'. And this is something that is crucial when doing any drama training too, but as far as I understand she must have gone through some decent drama training, right? So I can't see how is it possible for her to have gone through training without picking up any of these basics, let alone be selected for those programmes out of multiple candidates? Is she just nervous now because she knows what shoes she has to fill? Or was she just selected by accident (something I find hard to believe, considering how many of my acting friends didn't get into a big drama school either, and still act a lot better than she does). It just boggles my mind.

I think there’s no need to be an actress to understand your discouragement, because these are situations that also happen in other work environments, sometimes people obtain a higher level in the job thanks to their connections or their ability in selling/making up their image and not necessarily for their skills. So I can tell you’re not alone in this, I agree with you about her lack of talent. “How she could be selected for those programmes?” Let’s give a look to her CV: her credits (Staged, Last Train To Christmas, The Sandman, Gogglebox) have one common denominator, MS. She is his girlfriend, the mother of his babies, she’s living with him 24/7 and he personally knew the producers of these shows. To be pragmatic, she combined her status, the good heart of the people involved and his influences to reach her goal. No doubt this was a gold opportunity, and with or without smooching, she played the game well. “How was it possible for her to attend drama training without picking up any basics?” I don’t know, I can suppose she used the same strategy, maybe she found the right people who helped her. I remember she told she auditioned for a cabaret once as a dancer, but her attempt was so hilarious that the director took her like his comedy partner instead (for 3 years, a long cabaret...). Maybe this is her true talent, finding a good pygmalion. After all it’s not forbidden and so far it worked good enough for her. It’s not her fault in the end if the system allows this kind of privileges and exceptions. Although this raises some doubts about what kind to actress she really wants to become. Because the impression is that she just aims to reach fame easily and quickly.

I’m sorry to say it, but attending a particularly school is not a reliable proof of respect for the subject.

Spoiler filled rant about episode 4 of Kin under the cut because OH MY GOD

Okay first of all this episode gave me like legit stress, my cheeks burned and I literally started to sweat-- I just need to talk about it

So first of all Jamie was Michael's son???????? I saw a lot of people guessing it before the big reveal but I legit had no idea, sure apparently Amanda and mickey were having an affair (kudos to jimmy for like forgiving them both it seems like) but I in no way thought that Jamie was Mickey's kid-- Also does Jimmy know?? and like wtf Amanda the boy is dead so now you wanna talk about it??? Why not talk about it before, when Jamie was alive, even if Mickey thought about it it does make sense that he wouldn't want to come in and ask if the kid was his or not, especially since that's his brother's wife

god i just felt so so bad for everyone except for Amanda what a shitty situation to be in for all parties involved. I feel like Amanda just takes out all her anger on the family, even during the revelation of that Mickey wanted to leave and she told him to stay. He does and then BAM that was your son, why didn't you say anything etc. etc. Even then Michael's thinking of Jimmy saying that it was his place to do the eulogy which it was. Just because he was the biological father doesn't mean Jimmy wasn't Jamies father. Micheal, in the end, choose to ignore it even if his reasons were justified or not.

also quick side not it really annoyed me how amanda said "you've been fuckin' me," it takes two to fuck why act like all the blame falls on to Michael?

Honestly if I had to pick a villain in the family it would have to be Amanda, she just seemed toxic from the get-go. I understand why she acts the way that she does but she's just mean, like in episode three where Michael was literally only telling Amanda to bury the feeling in and trying to be helpful (about them taking revenge for Jamie) she turns and says "is that what you do with her?" why you gotta be so mean, my man's just trying to help and you're the one begged him to kill the murderer of her son.

Now, steering off the topic of Amanda, well not by a lot but still dvdfvfd, I am so HAPPY that she found out Viking was the one who started this all. I cannot wait for the whole family to whoop his ass because everything that happens in the show is legit is fault fbfbfdfv

Anywayss that's the end of my rant <3 can't wait to watch episode five but I need my stress to dissolve a bit, it's been a while since a series made me feel physically nervous and I'm loving it
