i just went to bed, then 15 minutes later got out of bed and turned the lights on, grabbed a pencil and sticky note, and began frantically calculating my total possible annual leave between now and December 2025. Again.
just in case anyone is wondering just how meticulous and obsessive i am over future travel and time off
#it seems more insane in person when you can see how many dates and numbers i wrote down#i do this literally all the time when bored#i never take a day off that isnt travel related lol#i had the chance to do it 3 times this month but instead i decided to work 9 hours days next week and week after next#so that i dont have to take any time#i could also save myself another 2 days leave if i worked 10 hour days the next two weeks after that#but idk if i hate myself enough for that#i also can earn credit time by voluntarily working over timr for up to 3 days total credit.#i use this as much as possible.#aaaaaand i get comp time for other work after hours (like my 5 hours from working on a Saturday in august that i havent touched yet)#i am literally insane about this btw.#my calculations this year assume i am not taking black friday off. if i do i will recalculate#anyway. in case you're ever like 'how does she take all these trips'#the answer is that i just obsessively track every single hour to the point where i'm working a year and a half in advance 😃

Its Just A Game.
"Oh, its just a game i play with a few friends of mine."
That's all it was after all, just a game. You played it on the weekends and occasionally during the week when you didn't have homework or have to go work. You made a few friends and joined a small guild that welcomed newer players, and it was nice to just have people to chat with and hang out with in this new world you found yourself in.
As time moved on you finished school and worked more often. Now however, you were pretty good at managing your time so you played much more often. You became great friends with your guild leader and many inside this smaller guild. Eventually things slowed down in the game again when summer was over, with many members being students still the entire game slowed. Many members 'retired' so to say as they moved on or just needed to keep up with school. Then your Guild leader decided that they needed to retire from the game, alongside a few other members. It was a sad day, as you had become close friends after all, even talking outside of the game for a year or so at this point. But people move on and even if you still wanted to play others wanted to move on. So you bid them farewell in game and kept up with them outside of the game.
After all, it was just a game, right?
Since you still played, you decided to find a new guild to call home. After some searching, you found someone who was just starting a guild and was nice and seemed genuinely caring about their members. You joined up with the new guild and once again you made many more friends. Over the next few years you befriended many people in this new guild, and as you all played this game together you all got closer. The fun you all had rising in the ranks of the guild rankings and holding the top spots of a few categories was a blast. Once again, you became close friends with your guild leader and many others, eventually taking an officers role. You all came up with silly games to play within the game for even more fun. Like seeing who could hold onto a crown the longest when anyone could call it back to their own backpack. Many years passed, and eventually life started to take over. You stepped down from your position so newer people could help do things as you 'partially retired' to deal with life. You bid everyone a temporary farewell with love and left the game for some time.
After all, it was just a game, nothing more. . . Right?
Years later you came back to the game, having plenty of free time to dedicate to a game that you once played with so many great friends. When you logged on you were met with horror. Many of your friends had long since retired themselves. Your guild was a shadow of what it once was with nobody active anymore, and those that were had moved on to new guilds. You stared at the screen that showed what was once your virtual HOME. Emotions you never expected to have to deal with filling your mind. After a few days you make the hard decision to leave and see if there is a new place to maybe call home.
Nothing really ever stays the same in a game anyway, you guess.
Eventually you find a new guild and they accept you into their group. You play with them and do your best to fit in and become a part of them. However something just feels off. You don't quite mesh as well with the others and feel left out a lot of the time. You know its not intentional. The games clearly been dying for years, a mere fraction of the player base it once had. But it still hurts more than you would have thought.
One day a few months later, while browsing the auction house you see it. The crown that your old home used to play 'keep aways' with. It's not a particularly impressive item, nor expensive. You easily snag it and add it to your inventory. Out of curiosity, you check the guilds registry to see whats become of your old guild. You look at the list and without realizing it, your crying a bit. Your old homes are no longer on the list, having long since been removed from the game as there was no logical reason for them to have been kept. All of the memories are now all you have left. It hurts but its just how life is, you tell yourself. One thing sticks in your mind however:
It was never just a game.

#ask#anon#hi anon. sorry that i used this opportunity to talk about the sims 2 console port#ive had this template made and didn't use it for much besides a few jokes to send to friends#but i think it's on par for Gelato to be this knowledgeable about one of his favourite games.#but yeah basically i grew up with the xbox version of Sims 2 and since the xbox was my brothers console. i didnt get to play it a whole lot#and years later i bought the sims 2 on PS2 and noticed a lot of slowdown on actions and stuff#and the golden bolt (i think thats their youtube name) did a video about the console ports of sims 1 & 2 games#and i was kinda confused hearing them talk about how the sims 2 only had one save file (on PS2) because the xbox version had like eight#and so that. paired with me looking through the cutting room floor page of the sims 2#i was kinda curious to see if the xbox version really performed as bad as it does on the ps2 version#because the golden bolt was also talking about that in their coverage of the ports#and so like again. there's only two videos on youtube that I could find of the xbox version#and the ones uploaded by IGN run on the ps2 version. because of the fucking button prompts they show on screen#anyway. so like thankfully one of the only other xbox videos showcased making a sim. and it's. so much fucking faster than the ps2 version#like on the ps2 version. you'd select a hairstyle. wait 5-10 seconds. and then the hair changes and you get the ui element to customize it#press cancel and you wait 5-10 seconds to revert back to your previous hairstyle#on the xbox version though? it's so much fucking faster#i haven't checked gameplay of the gamecube version but ik that speedrunners use specifically just that version of the port?#im not sure why only because i havent done the research to check what's better about the gamecube version#granted. i have to get around to getting an original xbox controller at some point to prove it for myself that the xbox port runs the best#i know it probably wont be perfect due to the disk having a few scratches. but its gotta beat my ps2 copy#im also curious to see how many save files i used. because im almost certain i used like 6-7 of them#just because i kept creating new story modes with almost identical alien sims with mohawks#in my last playthrough. i think i broke that tradition and gave my sim a flatter haircut. i also forget if i made him an alien or not.#i havent played it in a year due to getting my computer and it taking up the space i used for my crt setup#anyway. hi anon. sorry about that. im happy you like Gelato :)#i genuinely love him so much ever since Helper sketched him up. like she absolutely nailed it. literally couldn't ask for anything better#and writing up stuff for him has honestly made me love him so much more#thank you for the ask anon!! :)
