1. How do I like a character whose entire life revolves around trying to save her brother no matter what she has to do because she loves him that much more than a character whose only personality is being really antagonistic and aggressively misogynisticly obsessed with a woman who at one point moved to a different part of the country partially to get away from him? Gee idk
2. I would like Akiyama more, like maybe Kazama and Sagawa tier If the games were more interested in pointing out that he's a horrible person. And he is. And maybe I'd like that he was a bad person more if I wasn't always being told he's a good person. It also just irks me that he's treated like he has real problems. Especially next to fucking Saejima and even Kiryu when he kinda just does a lot of this shit to himself and its easily fixable. He feels like a self insert anime protagonist in a way that annoys me. Sorry he's just not ad good a character as someone like Haruka or Daigo
3. It's my list

Champagne Bracket: Round 3, Poll 1
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Propaganda from submitters Under Cut
Yoshiya "Joshua" Kiryu
He’s a bitch and a hate (love) him. I will now quote him below: "Sigh... I don't do the whole sweating thing, Neku." "Very impressive, Neku. Show those fifth graders who's boss." "Who needs other people's values? It's easier to just live by your own rules." "Oh! I can't say I'm particularly interested, but... I'll go ahead and ask, for the sake of convenience. Do you have a name?"
Smug asshole. Always playing mind games with the player character. Has many secrets but never shares them. Also did a bunch of spoilery shit.
Byakuya Togami
Very elitist, constantly calls others "commoners", talks about how he is gonna kill someone and get out of the killing game, hangs up a corpse and writes a message with their blood on the wall because he already knows the murderer but wants to see who is smart, complains the other students left him out even though he made sure to tell them every time that he wants nothing to do with them, pretty sure he screams in the 4 chapter " How can you know something I don't know?!", the only reason he doesn't qualify as a villain is cus he doesnt kill someone and in the end works with the rest of the survivors. He also constantly wants the protagonist to tell the rest what he knows
he's mean and self-centered and sees himself as above everyone else.
such a cunt 😭 doesnt eat breakfast w everyone and spends all his time in the library. (also he tampered with a crime scene but spoilers)
His title is literally, get this, "ultimate affluent progeny" Fucking look at him /hj Treats everyone as inferior in every way, even when they're trying to solve a murder he goes "how did YOUUU figure this out before MEEE???? >:0" Constantly has an "Me vs. Them" mentality about everything so he feels the need to prove himself to be superior - Messes with crime scenes because it would "make them more interesting" (purposefully incriminating someone else, who he didn't like) Actual quotes by him: "I'm only here to get breakfast. I have neither need nor desire to talk to you. Now withdraw." "You're like a child lost in the woods, you know that? A total waste of space." "You know, I still just can't believe it... That an uneducated, brain-dead, useless piece of garbage like you has survived this long." "You have only yourself to blame—you came to me with your tragic little story. I didn't ask you to. This is the real world, not some romantic fantasy fairytale."
This rich mf… He spends the entire game being a snobby, condescending, uncaring asshole. He becomes relatively nicer by the end but never stops being a dick. He also desecrated a corpse once for funsies. He’s also stupid but he doesn’t know that. I both like and hate him. It’s complicated.
He's an heir to a wealthy family corporation and he sure does act the part. He acts like he's better than everyone else and thinks they're not worth his time. He's just a huge asshole. (SPOILERS) He tampers with a murder scene just for fun and outs another student's secret alter, knowing full well it was irrelevant to the case. He also has a small breakdown about being wrong in another trial. By the end, he becomes a bit more likeable and kinda a tsundere that pretends like he doesn't care about the other survivors (but he totally does). Still very much an asshole though. He's a fucked up lil guy and something about him draws me to him. I would kick his rich bastard shins IRL given the chance, however.
He is emotionally detached from his classmates…
why you should vote byakuya "tell em naegi" thanks for watching like and subscribe

hi me again, coming off of anon because I’m unwell about the funny leg man: Aki actually says he’d kill for Kiryu in 6 though I wouldn’t be surprised if he would say that as well for him in 4 or 5. Homie would do ANYTHING for him and all he gets in return is the shit socked out of him in a nursery, see his boss intro in 6. I still believe Kiryu was full of shit for hitting him like a random ass thug like THATS YOUR FRIEND ISNT IT? Or maybe it isn’t. Aki’s not in Kiryu’s Soul Friends cinematic for Baka Darou but a bunch of random mfs he met in Hawaii are. Idk maybe Akiyama’s admiration was only ever one-sided… fucked up…. I imagine Aki’s already got problems with people leaving him but the fact that the guy he saw as his hero and his friend just up and leaves for almost a decade is just. Man. Man…
nooo youre right tho i think the quote i was thinkin of was from 6- i cant shake the feeling he says something similar in one of the previous entries too its been a while but POINT IS the problem with kiryu's relationships is that they all often do feel really one-sided: majima, akiyama, and daigo are all people that greatly look up to or admire kiryu and often express so, yet he doesn't reciprocate those sentiments in any equivocal way.
whether its cause he feels like he'll burden their lives by being more active in them I Dont Know but at this point it shouldve been clear to kiryu that his friends are letting him know all of that trouble's worth to be by his side, so i think thats what makes it particularly upsetting with the likes of akiyama who are distraught to find out kiryu doesnt reciprocate his friendship to the same degree

Ok well its been a few hours i got some sleep and its time to share my thoughts and feelings on yakuza 0. Naturally i will be spoiling left andright so i will be putting this under The Cut
really, TREMENDOUSLY fun game i have not had this much enjoyment with anything in my life for the past several months. seriously seriously way too fun and im like genuinely considering attempting to 100% it.
this is partially because I NEEEEEEED to go back and finish all the substories but also i havent spent a whole lot of time with the minigames which is a crying shame because there was so much love put into every aspect of this game. And also because if i pick up thenext game in the series i will be staying up until 5:30 on a school night again. Which techinically i skipped class today because i have a sick note but still we donthave time for that sort of shenangianery right now. so the next game will proably be a thanksgiving break adventure so stay tuned
Ok. now lets get into final thoughts and feelings on the plot.
truly and honestly i think kiryu's story could have SEVERELY benefited from some streamlining. the issue is its a little bit all over the place and im not sure if thats because the authors had too many ideas and wanted to cram them all in, or too little ideas and needed to stretch the plot out to last for his assigned 8 chapters.
like the whole thing is kind of just kiryu being jerked around by everybody and everything around him and like . i dont know it kind of feels like we're spending a lot more time reacting to stuff that other people do as opposed to being proactive. i guess. im kind of struggling to put this into words
and like at the very end it kind of feels like his story is getting co-opted by majima's because the focus again jerks over to this random girl he's met for the first time and has like no attachment or personal connection to outside of being his boss' sister. You know.
like we go from framed for murder, have to prove my innocence so that my boss doesnt get roped into this and also i dont get arrested -> join real estate firm to secure incredibly valuable piece of property and also find the dude who actually killed that guy -> on the run from my original yakuza family because they all want to kill me -> Ok nevermind my boss bought their boss off -> ok yippee we found the owner of the land who is also my boss's sister -> oh no my boss is now dead his sister is gone and also they want to kill me again -> save his sister and beat up the guy who wants to kill us all . yippee the end
which like. Well the problem is its more like a series of events that follow each other and like obviously they have relation but theyre not really tied together in a way that makes it feel like a natural progression/buildup. like our climax does not really have that much to do with where we started off because shibusawa ISNT EVEN THE GUY WHO SENT THAT HITMAN!!!!!!! hes not the man who framed kiryu for murder and he's not the man that did the murder!!!!!!!!! Hes Kind Of Just Some Shmuck!!!!!!!!!!!!! and like it would be one thing if kuze was the final boss (which i would still be annoyed by because i seriousyl dont want to fight that guy anymore) because at least he's been causing problems for us since day one BUT HES NOT EVEN??!??!!?! like shibusawa has basically nothing to do with kiryu and its just such a baffling choice.
anyways so basically kiryu's story needed to be streamlined and aggressively so. the fact that it wasnt kiryu but MAJIMA who takes down the real killer is just like. well its kind of an insane writing choice. just all around. im also still a little salty the real killer was just some random assassin guy like Ok whatever.... kicks up dust cloud................. <- No im not bitter that its not nishiki..... yes i am................
additionally im ultimately still kind of baffled by the choice to have oda be the guy who sold off mikoto because i feel like it really wasnt . well frankly all that relevant. Like they didnt really do much with it and kind of left me feeling like Ok what was the point of all that then..........?.
honestly im half convinced that they constructed the overarching story around majima's side and then had to fenagle part of kiryu's into working with it which is like. well . a shame because its actively detrimental. i think if they had worked on giving mikoto and kiryu more of a connection then it wouldve flowed a lot better; like im thinking about the brief conversation they had in the hotel where shes talking about her insanely shitty life - if they had expanded on that more i feel like it wouldve done some serious legwork for making this not feel like 57 insane side tangents tacked on one after another
like mikoto is absolutely central to the story but she has basically no connection to one of the main leads outside of being his boss' sister - i guess like making oda the guy who sold her was their attempt to do something about that but its not like. well frankly its not like they really did anything with thtat. so i dont know its just kindof frustrating
i think majima's plot is a lot more compelling because its frankly a whole lot less complicated. mikoto is the heart of it and everything revolves intimately around her story and so like when kiryu's story bleeds into majima's via tachibana it feels a lot more like its being woven into as opposed to co-opting.
Ok well while we're talking about it i want to take this opportunity to talk about how tremendously happy i am with the way they decided to play mikoto and majima's relationship Because my main concern was that (especially with all the commentary from people in the game) it was going to be straight up "omg theyre totally in love.........." Again despite the fact that well they dontknow each other all that particularly well in a context that isnt immediate/impending life or death situation.
but nope THEY CAME THROUGH FOR MEEEEEEEEEE because ultimately in this sort of situation the absolute best thing you can do for everybody and everything involved is leave it vague and undetermined. all we really need to know for this to be compelling is that they care about each other and they care about each other a lot, and what form that manifests in is really kind of secondary. And of course the ending is like *chef's kiss* Congratulations you made me miserable. tremendously good job
its like really what i said in that last 4 chapter set roundup post u KNOWWWWWW i eat that doomed/star crossed ambiguous maybe could have been lovers stuff up like the very circumstances that brought them together and gave them the connection that they had is what keeps them apart SLAMS MY FIST INTO THE WALLLLLLLL like at the end when they run into each other for the first time in two years and she's finally regained her eyesight but he cant say anything to her because he doesnt want her to recognize him........................... FUCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE FACT THAT SHE NEVER EVEN KNEW HIS NAMEEEEEEE........... THE WAAAAAAAAAAATCH......................... (DRIVES OFF CLIFF
like as always the fact that its doomed to fail is truly what sells it for me. Maybe i want us all to be a little miserable. togheter<3
Personally i think mikoto shouldve gotten to kill the entire dojima family leadership but whatever (kicks up dust cloud
also genuinely insane how majima is just like Fine i guess with working with sagawa and his boss that tortured him in a pit for a year like buddy Youre crazy. these people suck can you please find a better profession
the car chase minigame was so good. THE HELICOPTER?!?!?!?!? THE MISSILES!?!?!?!??!?!???? Chef's Kiss. game that was made for me

LUCAS I DONT EVEN KNOW HOW TO START!
ok ill try to give u the plot of the series as a whole, u play as a yakuza and u fight through the whole game so u can beat up the bad yakuza long story short! the stories of each game are very compelling im just having a hard time explaining it. its beat them up game series, except for 7 that is turn based and u can use stuff u find in the environment to beat te shit out of people. u can also help people in trouble through sidequests and other stuff and in 6 u can feed cats which is very neat! since u said u wanna start with zero heres the basic plotline so far: Kiryu is working for a loan shark and beats up a guy to get his money back then the guy dies basically framing Kiryu for it in an attempt to fuck over his adoptive father and patriarch and he gets himself kicked out of the family to clear his name meets a real state agent that has “im a shady asshole” written on his forehead and has to investigate what the fuck is up; meanwhile at Goro’s side of the story shes working for a cabaret club as a manager because she got forced out of her family over not wanting to fuck her sworn brother over got tortured and was forced to work there to pay her debt then gets asked to kill someone in order to finally be allowed back in but it gets obvious she doesnt have all the details.
note: by family i mean their yakuza clans not actual family.

alright well i finished ch 12 so while im waiting for my water to boil ill fill everybody in on the current thoughts feelings opinions
Can we kill sagawa. PLEASEEEEE If this man doesnt die by the end of the game we have done something deeply and unfathomably wrong.
anyways so im fascinated at the reveal of tachibana as the owner of the bat tattoo and honestly Well i cant say i trust it. just because its very much like well frankly a bit of a shock reveal when it happens with no real justification. Like there was legitimately no reason to show this to the viewers at that point in the story so im smelling some sort of a fakeout here is basically what im getting at
like one could argue that they decided to reveal it there because we’ve spent the past bit trying to establish tachibana as a guy we can count on to some extent and then immediately after reminding the viewer “Hey we are dealing with organized crime LOL these people are actually deplorable and dont u forget it” keeps everybody on their toes or whatever but i still feel like they couldve chosen a more shocking or relevant moment. Hence my fakeout theory which i will honestly be a bit disappointed in if true because it just seems a little cheap
anyways so currently im thinking that like as part of his little mafia squad they all got the same tattoo or somethjng and so its actually a different guy with the bat tattoo. wait omg could you imagine if it was oda LOL
Ok if it was oda i would forgive the fakeout. Because i never really liked that dude to begin with
insanely funny how happy people are to volunteer incredibly sensitive information to majima when this has basically no benefit to them and in fact will probably come back to bite them in the ass. Its just his charming babygirl vibes
the ending for the Everybody Wants To Kill Kiryu subplot was a bit anticlimactic for all the drama we went through so jury is still out on how i feel about this because its like obviously important for the whole tojo family infighting but at the moment im not sure if i felt like this entire thing was really worth taking up like 2 slash 3 whole chapters for. but who knows bc we havent seen this story to its end yet
unsure about how i feel about the direction they r possibly taking majima and mikotos relationship in. if they choose to play this as a “what could have been if things were different” doomed potential romance u know i eat that stuff up But the point of issue here is potential. bc my immersion is going to be going to be struggling if they seriously try to argue me into believing that they r totally In Love despite the fact that they barely know each other at this point. so We Shall See
CAN WE KILL SAGAWA PRETTY PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEE

This is gonna keep me up at night i cannot believe that people dont like saejima like i didnt even reallse this was going on i was too caught up in the bliss of finally having a protagonist with bigger titties than kiryu and constantly wears an expression that looks like hes attending a funeral. Like i didnt even see the y4 scene as saejima it was so uncomfortable and felt so .. shoehorned in. Like theres nothing about saejima that ever made a callback to that scene ever again, it came out of fucking nowhere and then its revealed later on that saejima adores kids his childhood dream was to become a kindergarden teacher he loved his little sister like crazy and if they truly wanted saejima to pin haruka so badly they could have made it because he looked at her and saw yasuko and didnt want to look away. Saejima Was and Should Be portrayed as wild and desperate during that scene but not because of ??? Lust ??? Suddenly being overcome by female pheromones ??? Its because he was so scared and cornered and he knows that hes intruding on this perfect little family and its either him or them , and if he doesnt stop haruka now then she’s going to blow the whistle and have her dad come running and then its the end for him, hes going back to jail and theyre going to kill him in there and hes never going to see yasuko or majima or anyone else ever again. If saejima grabs haruka and bowls her over and ends up on top of her , hes not going to start shaking because shes a feeeemale its because he realises that his impulsive tackle has already painted him as dangerous in her mind and shes not gonna want him around anymore and he cant let her go now because shes going to call kiryu and if he wants to escape then he has to shut her up and go for her dad next and he really really doesnt want to have to kill them because they saved him and haruka is staring up at him with gigantic eyes, hes dripping cold sweat and he sees his sister and saejima lets go of her and resigns himself to going back to jail because he cant do it, he cant hurt her. Haruka scrambles to her feet and she saejima expects her to run but she stays in the room with him and neither of them know what to say to each other and Thats when kiryu, whos checked and double checked for any plausible explanation that wouldnt point to saejima being an escaped convict and found none, enters the room from where hed been monitoring the situation with his fists balled up, he unclenches his hands and he pretends like he hadnt seen anything and sends haruka on her way on a chore of little importance so he can have a private chat with saejima and kiryu sits at the entrance of the room, leaving his back open to saejima as they have their introductory speech and saejima is like fuckkk this is the guy i was supposed to look for, gives kiryu the fakest name ever (which kiryu thinks is genius), saejima gets more and more hyped and he concocts his shipwreck story and they end up on the beach as saejimas explaining the ship i worked on crashed and im the only survivor and i need to get to kamurocho pleasee give me money how much could one banana cost ? Ten dollars? And kiryus like Oh man, youve been in prison a long time... he says knows he broke out of prison and saejima realises he still let him see his back so that he knows that kiryu means no harm and as they talk saejima understands why hamazaki was so shaken by his encounter with kiryu , he doesnt know that kiryu approached hamazaki without once considering he had a knife clutched in his fist but he saw kiryu flagrantly leaving his back open to a dangerous criminal not because he thinks that saejima cant hurt him but because he trusts that saejima wont hurt him. Kiryu was giving him a chance to redeem himself, but his stomach sinks when he hears that kiryu will only help him if hes going to turn himself in and he tells him, fucking begs him, because he has no other option, either kiryu gives him the money or he takes it from him and kiryu keeps saying no and saejima is losing it a little he casts aside kiryus camaraderie wait look at this
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Anyway he is trying to be as scary as possible in order to shake kiryu down but its not gonna work and they start to circle each other, sizing each other up, and with each step saejimas exhaustion and pain fades away, his limp disappears and his heart starts to race because kiryus not fighting him for the sake of it, this is a test he says, saejima has to prove to him how bad he wants that money. He doesnt have to kill them, kiryus giving him an out here, letting him do what he does best and if its a fight he wants then a fight he will get

I got it; Kiryu is the boy next door who is super hot and everyone has a crush on because of that but hes also a bit shy and doesnt reach out much and you have to take advantage of how close he is to hang out with him and become someone he “doesn’t mind” because you help him pick his shit up when he throws his shirts and like food containers/drink cans everywhere and also make homecooked meals for him and hes like wow ... i gotta learn how to make that ... and he sometimes comes home with his hands all fucked up and hes bloody and you fuss over him a bit and he thinks its nice to have someone whos soft on him and if youre a girl he will kiss you while youre bandaging his wounds but if youre a guy you have to initiate because liking guys is for girls (untrue but its this way in his head BUT if a guy likes him first then its fine). You two will have something good going on until you have to break up because hes in jail again not because being in a long distance relationship is hard but because he will get himself killed shortly after getting out of prison
