heres my sexy rundown of destiel: what happened
show baits for a very long time
bait goes from one off lines to like. very explicit romantic arcs between the two of them, especially in the last three seasons when it’s handed off to a new showrunner, dabb. this new showrunner is very close with the writer who wrote the confession
pre 18 spec based off like knowing how stories work is that cas confesses and that’s what triggers his deal and why dean is crying in promo and guess what. it happens. pre 19 and 20 spec follow this same line of knowing how stories work.
19 airs and it IS weird that they end on a montage and wrap up all the big bad stuff seemingly only leaving the reunion with sam’s love interest + cas + what they choose to do from here on out
20 airs and it’s ALSO weird. shrek voice they didn’t even do the road so far. it reconstructs everything the last 3 seasons have deconstructed and writes out sam’s girlfriend that he was a sobbing mess over 2 eps ago and puts jpad in the worst fucking wig of all time TWICE.
the idea is that 18 was watered down and 19 + 20 were changed for covid reasons which like... is not false. jensen’s said 18 cut out a lot of his reaction (this is where #jacklescut comes from), dabb said 19 and 20 changed big crowd scenes (presumably dean in heaven at the end) because of restrictions, and misha has vaguely said that cas had a different ending before they did the covid write.
latam dub comes out where it’s explicitly reciprocal, the options are that a dubber just Did That which seemed unlikely for several reasons, or that the early materials they were working off of (that were eventually edited to be the usa version) led the dubbers to believe it WAS explicitly romantic, like a super wrecked dean or sthing
misha makes his statement and it’s clearly heartfelt. he’s always been super active with fans, and he engages when people push back on what he says. imo he saw what was going on and wanted to clear things up so people weren’t going nuts
maybe i live in an online bubble but i dont see people saying that this means that explicit reciprocal canon was cut, but that 18 was edited to be more ambiguous on dean’s end, and that it’s very possible that 19 and 20 were going to bring cas back and leave things open ended. but when you leave something open ended with a character who just gay love confessed, that reads less open ended and more “they are a cut away from tackling each other”.
that + the fact that the writer’s room is clearly divided is leading ppl to conclude that 19 + 20 were Less Bad, and a five month covid break meant that things changed from Less Bad to the thing that aired.
my personal take on things is that finale was always sam lives, dean goes to heaven, which im eye roll about no matter what. but i do think there are relatively small tweaks that would have made it slightly less eye roll-y, and i don’t think it’s impossible that those tweaks were in the initial finale, and got changed because of... ???
in conclusion. deancas was written as a romantic relationship on both ends for years and killing dean off and writing cas out doesn’t change that. destiel canon babey

An extremely informal opinion on the way humanity is conveyed through mechanisation in iDKHOW's latest album, or: Why I think the lgbt community resonates so much with Razzmatazz
I think this is more on a subconscious level. Like, lyrical, performance, and production talent aside, i think part of the reason Razzmatazz tends to stick with us is because of the lyrical meaning, too - thinking in terms of how queer people have always tended to like sci-fi and stuff like that because of the themes of fitting in, acceptance, feeling strange in your own skin.
I think the theme that Dallon and Ryan have done with the reinvention and mechanisation of the idkhow from the 80s is something that we relate to more on an emotional level?
Leaving a band where you were stifled, being able to redo songs close to your heart, singing about feeling out of place and confused and kind of angry, wanting to be isolated, feeling clumsy and pre-programmed...
We love stories with found family. Where we get to choose who we love, and who loves us. Doesn't a story about feeling out of place and conflicted and bitter (Leave Me Alone, New Invention, to name a few), seeking acceptance (Nobody Likes The Opening Band) only to find peace and love in another (Door, Clusterhug, Need You Here), sound like something we would love to take in and listen to?
Is it so surprising that so many of us find comfort in the songs, with lyrics like "I'm a teenage beauty queen of sorts" (Clusterhug) and "Ladies and Gentlemen, and everyone in-between" (Tomorrow People) and "You've got to choose between your faces" (New Invention) and "Steal every heart from the boys that you're touching" (Lights Go Down)?
There's a form of divide between the 1981 EP and Razzmatazz; where the lore for for the EP was that the corporation, Tellexx, had recovered these old tapes of a band lost to time, I Dont Know How But They Found Me. Now, in Razzmatazz, the settings are more modern - observing the lack of 80s fashion, such as their gelled back hair in Do It All The Time, and the incorporation of 2020's quarantine measures in the Leave Me Alone music video. And yet, Dallon and Ryan are still there, whilst Dallon trills lyrics such as "Despite your good intentions / The girl is like an architect / and I am just a new invention" (New Invention) and "You can bend and you can break / But they'll replace you with machines" (Mad IQs).
Almost as if the Razzmatazz era Dallon and Ryan are just machines, meant to mimic the iDKHOW of the past.
Feeling as though you were designed to live up to expectations that you know you'll never really be able to fulfill, because of how you were made at your core. Feeling as though you don't have an identity in which you can root yourself in. "Get yourself a pseudo-scientific little fiction, you can fix this" (Sugar Pills) and "In a fascist little paradox, we all become anonymous" (Razzmatazz).
I'd be shocked if we DIDN'T resonate with that.
In conclusion... I guess, keep an ear out for lyrics that catch your attention. Why do they do that? What piece of yourself did you find in another?
Also, stream Razzmatazz.

rules: pick 5 shows, then answer the following questions. don’t cheat. tag 10 (or however many) people.
tagged by: @atsukyou (thank you! This tag game is very fun!)
I’m tagging: @joeys-piano, @endless-season, @blossomchi, @s-aikas and @shreedy (only if you want to, of course!)
My choice:
Bungou Stray Dogs
Boku no Hero Academia
K Project
Enen no Shouboutai
Gravity Falls
what’s your favourite character from 1?
Akutagawa Ryunosuke ♥
who’s your least favourite character in 2?
All For One
what’s your favourite episode of 4?
all of them with Beni featured!
what’s your favourite season of 5?
Idk, there are only 2 of them and I’m currently watching the 2nd
what’s your favourite couple of 3?
Kusanagi + Awashima ^_^
what’s your favourite couple in 2?
Idk, many of them look very promising, but since a very big and important part of the characters are minors, I prefer to refrain from thinking of them as couples. *sweeps DabiHawks under the rug, just in case -- I dont know what to think of this pairing anymore*
what’s your favourite episode in 1?
The 2 last eps of the 2nd season plus that episode from the 3d season where we can see Akutagawa siblings in civil clothes (I’m saddened that it is so short).
what’s your favourite episode in 5?
I think I liked the ep about “Sevral Timez” the most so far. :)
what’s your favourite season in 2?
I liked the forest training camp arc very much, now what was the season again??
how long have you been watching 1?
Since 2016 I think??
how did you get into 3?
I was looking for smth to get distracted from a really sad and hard situation irl. I thought: “Oh, what a funny and sweet anime!” And then it turned out to be sad and tragic. >_< I still love it tho!
favourite actor in 4?
Miyano Mamoru, who voices Shinmon Benimaru. ♥
which do you prefer? 1, 2, or 5?
Can’t choose between 1 and 2.
which show have you seen more of, 1 or 3?
Surprisingly, they seem to be of approximately equal length so far?? BSD currently has 37 eps and a movie. K consists of 2 seasons (13 + 13 eps), a movie and K 7 Stories (movies??), which are basically 6 long eps, each ep divided into 2 halves... I haven’t watched ep 13 of the 1st season of K, which means that I’ve watched 37 eps of BSD + movie, and also 37 eps of K + movie. This matches by the number of eps, but I don’t know about the time, I don’t remember the length of both movies. XD
if you could be anyone from 4, who would you be?
Hina or Hika, to be next to Beni all the time!
would a crossover of 3 and 4 work?
A crossover of 2 and 4 works perfectly! But... K and EnS... Emn... Nope. >_<
pair two characters in 1 who would make an unlikely but strangely okay couple?
Mori and Fukuzawa XDD
overall, which show has the better storyline, 3 or 5?
I wouldn’t dare to compare them, one is a complicated Japanese multimedia project, which storyline expands through several mangas, novels, anime, audio dramas ans short stories, while the other one is an American cartoon with lots and lots of easter eggs, cameos and hidden mysteries...
which has better theme music, 2 or 4?
I think BnHA does. =/

i just realized i never made it through tfol australia movie because it was like.. not the best. im really sad at the last season of it :(
okay, i’m gonna be honest with you. i have not watched the australia movie in is entirety. i’ve only watched the parts with jo and blair - altho i actually really enjoyed what i saw of them. i mean it’s def super campy (per the nature of tfol), but the whole subplot of jo and blair trying to figure out who’s a jewel thief and who’s a cop reminded me of scooby doo (esPECIALLY THE CHASE SCENE!!! god i love that scene so much. tbh watching blair run is reason enough to watch this movie bc she’S AWFUL AND SHE LOSES HER SHOE?? BUT IT’S STILL THERE WHEN THEY COME BACK OUT??? love it) anyways, maybe try just watching their parts if you wanna give it a shot again (not that u need to!!! to each their own! i mean i fully acknowledge that it’s not what’s considered to be ~quality~ entertainment, and so i think it’s important to go in with the mindset of ‘okay this is a cheesy made for tv movie from the 80s for a tv show that was successful but not critically acclaimed’ it’s key to go in with the right mindset. this isn’t oscar awards stuff)
and okay i have some big thoughts about the last season, but i won’t try to say them all here. i’m biased towards the later seasons bc that’s what i watched first when it came to tfol. my experience of these characters is very different from a lot of other people who started with the eastland years. there’s a lot of stuff that i love about the last season. i love the episodes centered around blair. i mean im definitely biased towards her (clearly), and season 9 gave her a lot of really wonderful moments from her og elle woods stuff in “rumor has it” and “peekskill law” to when she revealed part of why she is the way she is in “less than perfect.” it’s just a great season for blair as a character. there are also some great jo and blair moments in season 9, and i love how you can see the maturity of the relationship between them. if you watch stuff keeping gay subtext in mind, there’s some really interesting analysis that can be done.
and im gonan be honest again and fully admit to skipping through all the andy and pippa stuff. i honestly didnt care enough about them, and *shrug emoji* (i mean i love them but also…) see, with tfol, the one good thing about them not being as consistent with plot stuff from episode to episode is that you can jump around if you want without being too lost. like tbh, you dont need to watch the main plot of an ep in order to watch a subplot and vice versa. like in “a house divided” there’s a plot with tootie and nat and their bfs, but then there’s also a subplot with jo and blair. and tbhhh i havent watched the tootie and nat plot. i’ve jsut watched the jo and blair plot from that ep and it’s great! i love it! also blair looks so good in that ep js. but anyways, my point is, you don’t have to take everything from tfol. you can pick and choose. just wanna watch jo and blair stuff?? hell yeah. wanna watch andy and pippa shit?? okay why not?? you just do you, my friend
also “down and out in malibu (part 1)” has some great jo and blair moments and it also has blair’s BEST look out of the whole show
i will say, i know it’s hard for a lot of people to watch season 9 bc of how jo is, and i mean, at her core, jo is still very much the same person in the sense that she’s still intensely loyal, has a strong sense of integrity, is all around a decent and good human being. you know those key jo traits?? like yeah, she’s not trampling around in plaid and boots like the jo we know and love, but she’s still the same person underneath it all. i admit though, the stuff with rick is gross, but can also be rationalized. honestly, it’s a lot easier to watch jo in season 9 if you do some psychoanalyzing about why she’s wearing stuff she wouldn’t before, why she marries rick (it will always be interesting how she doesn’t say “yes” right away. she says “maybe” and only later says yes after he bugs her and there’s so much to talk about here but i wont bc i’ve already said so much), etc. tbh, it makes it easier if you keep in mind that she’s gay but just doesn’t realize it yet. it’s like all this stuff in season 9 is her kind of freaking out subconsciously, living life how she thinks she’s expected to, before she fully accepts who she really is
and im gonna stop talking nowslkjdhfasf this got so much longer than i think either of us expected, anon. i’m so sorry the last season makes you sad. it’s definitely not an ideal last season by any means, but i hope my explanation helped even a little?? idksdlhfkasjdf
please keep in mind i wrote this at 3am and i am very sleepy and tired and got rambly and i apologize if this doesn’t make sense
