The air in Viktor’s lab hung heavy with tension, laced with the faint chemical tang of powders left behind from your last intrusion. He’d sealed the windows, locked the doors, and told himself it was enough. But deep down, he knew better.

You would come back.

And tonight, you did.

The soft click of a latch echoed through the room, followed by the faintest creak of a window sliding open. Viktor froze mid-draft, the quill slipping from his fingers. He didn’t need to turn around to know it was you.

“You really thought a lock could keep me out?” you whispered, your voice playful but tinged with something far more unsettling. “Oh, Viktor… don’t you know by now?”

Slowly, he turned to face you. There you stood, illuminated by the dim, flickering light of his machinery, the same manic grin spreading across your face like a child who’d finally caught a glimpse of their favorite storybook character come to life.

“I told you,” you whispered, stepping closer, “I’d find you again.”

Viktor’s jaw clenched. “This needs to stop.” His voice was calm, but beneath it was a sharp undercurrent of unease.

You ignored him, your glittering eyes drinking in every detail of his features, as if just standing near him was enough to make you drunk with joy. “Do you know what it’s like to admire someone so much that it consumes you?” you whispered, stepping even closer. “I’ve watched you—studied every invention, every step you took. And every day, I thought, this is it—this is the mind I was meant to find.”

Viktor narrowed his eyes. “You���re delusional.”

You giggled, brushing a stray lock of hair from his forehead with an unsettling tenderness. “No, Viktor… I see things clearly for the first time. You and I? We’re the same. Two souls chasing progress, pushing boundaries, defying limits.”

Viktor jerked his head away from your touch, grip tightening on his cane. “You’re dangerous. You can’t keep coming here.”

Your grin twisted, growing sharper. “Oh, Viktor… Don’t you understand? I’m doing this for us.”

You reached into your coat and pulled out two vials—one a swirling crimson, the other shimmering with a pearlescent green hue. “I wanted to do this the easy way,” you said softly, a note of something almost tender in your voice. “I wanted you to choose me. But if you won’t… I’ll have to show you the consequences.”

Viktor’s heart skipped a beat. “What are you talking about?”

You twirled the crimson vial between your fingers, your smile never faltering. “If you won’t come with me—if you refuse this chance, Viktor—I’ll use my powders on the people closest to you.”

The words hung in the air like a dagger poised above his heart.

“Imagine it,” you whispered, leaning in until your breath brushed against his ear. “Your precious Jayce, crawling on the floor, mind twisted and broken. Your dear Sky, trapped in a nightmare of hallucinations.”

Viktor’s hand clenched the top of his cane so tightly his knuckles turned white. “You wouldn’t.”

“Oh, but I would.” Your voice dropped to a conspiratorial whisper. “Not because I hate them. No, no, no… They just don’t matter. You’re the only one who matters.”

The sheer, unfiltered obsession in your voice sent a chill down Viktor’s spine. There was no hesitation, no remorse—just the maddening certainty that you believed everything you said was true.

“You see, Viktor,” you continued, brushing your fingers lightly down the sleeve of his coat, “I don’t want to hurt them. I only want you. You and me—soulmates. Two halves of the same genius. I’ve already broken myself for progress… and I’ll break anyone else if it means we can be together.”

Viktor swallowed hard, struggling to maintain his composure. “You’re not thinking clearly,” he said, voice strained. “This obsession—it’s not real. It’s the powders. They’ve warped your mind.”

You laughed, the sound high and wild. “You’re wrong, Viktor. The powders only freed me. They peeled away the rules, the limits, the chains… And now I see everything. I see you.”

You held the green vial up, tilting it in the low light. “This one? A gift. It’ll make you see things my way—just for a little while.” Your grin widened, pure madness glinting in your eyes. “Then you’ll finally understand. We’re meant to be.”

Viktor stepped back, his mind racing. The logical part of him screamed to run, to call for help, to stop you before you did something irreversible. But another part—the part still haunted by the effects of your previous powders—hesitated, the lines between fear, fascination, and something dangerously close to intrigue beginning to blur.

He forced himself to meet your gaze, amber eyes burning with defiance. “You’re not well,” he whispered. “If you care about me at all, you’ll stop this.”

For a brief moment, your grin faltered. Something dark and hurt flickered behind your eyes, a crack in the mask of madness you wore so well. But then, just as quickly, it was gone.

“Oh, Viktor,” you whispered, almost sadly. “I knew you wouldn’t understand… not yet. But that’s okay.”

You tucked the vials back into your coat with a sly smile. “I’ll give you time to think about it. But don’t take too long, my love.” Your voice dropped into a dangerous whisper. “Because if you make me wait… I promise, they will suffer.”

Viktor’s heart pounded against his ribs, panic clawing at his chest as he watched you slip toward the window once more.

“And when you’re ready to stop pretending…” you murmured, one foot already out the window. “I’ll be waiting.”

With that, you disappeared into the night, your laughter trailing behind you like a ghostly echo.

Viktor stood frozen, chest heaving, mind reeling from the storm you had left in your wake. He knew now, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that you wouldn’t stop.

The only question was: How far would you go to make him yours?

And worse still…

How long could he resist before the madness you offered started to look like the only way forward?

i'm obsessed with the way you write yandere! dazai 🥺🥺. you really nail his character <3. i really liked the piece you wrote about him taking care of a darling who got sick, but what about if he's the one who had intentionally caused it? like imagine yandere dazai who consistently drugs his darling to make her more complicit / weak? so he has an excuse to take care of her/cuddle her <3 ?? and his darling is so out of it that she ends up craving his touch/company, wether that be the drugs in her system or her actually caving in to his desires?? aaaa i'd love to read your take on this

It was a bittersweet satisfaction to have you curl up in his arms.

Addictive to his desire to be with you, adore you, love you, and yet so, so toxic, feeding the greed inside of him. Dazai still remembered the good old days when you'd walk the streets of Yokohama without any worry, clouding your bright smile and your laugh ringing out so clearly, even amongst the countless voices that separated you two. He had just been an observer back then, content with watching you go a path he could only follow but never reach you on. But his desire drove him forward until your worlds inevitably collided.

It had been a while since then, but Dazai could sincerely say he still loved you like he did the very first day. Even now, your mind muddled, eyes dulled with tears left unshed brimming on your lids, you were still the same person his heart longed for. Whenever you two were apart, his soul searched for you, every one of his actions inevitably leading back to your side.

There were still parts of him tethered to his old ways, his desire to leave this world behind only excelled by the need to see you again. You were the light in a world so full of darkness, and he was a moth ever so devoted to reaching you. And yet, his own actions never sat right with him. Even if he couldn't stop hurting you, moments like these made him justify them over and over, selfishly, until he could enjoy the peace they brought.

Drugging you had never been the plan. When some ruffians dropped the pulvery substance, he had initially been inclined to burn it or throw it away, but something made him slip it into his pocket instead of surrendering it to the authorities. Life with you wasn't always easy, and Dazai grinned while reflecting, realizing life with him wasn't either. You wanted to leave his carefully crafted cage, the hold he had on you, albeit with gentle hands. He wanted you to be safe. To be with him. He needed you to vanquish the lonesome life he was forced to lead, and once you'd be gone, there would be no more light to reach out to. Where he had decided to end it so many years ago, his humanity couldn't help but cling desperately to hope, and so, Dazai clung to you. You were the answer to his lifelong questions.

You became his reason to continue living, however unwillingly you participated in this mad idea.

And yet, if he had to describe the feeling of your resting in his arms as he kneeled next to your slumped body, drugged out of your mind like a helpless little pet, it was pure elation making his chest puff, mixed with the horror of his deeds raking goosebumps across his body. Dazai hated the lengths he had to go to. Still, having you twist in his hold until you were sufficiently warmed by his body around you, he thought he could finally die happily.

If anyone had told him how much he could love someone this cute and adorable, he would have never believed them. But experiencing it now was more painful than a hundred knives in his chest and more wonderful than the peaceful relief of natural death. You were clinging with one hand to his, having wrapped your fingers tightly around it, and with just a little bit of shifting, Dazai managed to intertwine your fingers, squeezing your hand comfortingly. It was so subtle, yet it made his heart pound like crazy when you squeezed back, your body frighteningly cold, yet the heat between your palms made him sweat like a nervous little schoolboy in front of his crush.

He didn't care about your nails scratching his skin, didn't care that you were too out of it to talk or to interact with him. It was bad, so bad, that he couldn't stop grinning from ear to ear, tears welling up in his eyes at how cutely you were burying your face in his stomach. Dazai was so glad to be alive to witness that moment, no matter how terrible it must have been for you. Then again, you probably didn't even register it when he scooped you up by your shoulder, wrapping his arm tightly around you in a side hug. Moving your body as needed to hide his face against your collarbone, smell the cheap, generic body wash he bought for you, almost making him want to lick it off your skin so he could be even closer to you.

You didn't fight, didn't argue. Sometimes, you squeezed his hand back, but that was all you could do, and Dazai adored it. Hidden behind all that anger and desperation was someone longing for affection—his affection. You were searching for his warmth, relying on him for support. Even when you weren't yourself, you were the most mesmerizing being he ever had the pleasure of knowing.

"I got you," Dazai whispered, pressing you even tighter against him. You might not have realized it yet, but you loved him, too. That was the conclusion Dazai came to. You knew he had your back and would always take good care of you for as long as he lived. He wanted to promise you forever, but maybe this lifetime would be enough. That's how he justified his selfish actions: deep down inside you, you loved him, too. There was no other explanation for it, and he'd wait for you to realize it, even if it took all your life.

Glancing at the small, clear bag filled with white powder resting on the kitchen counter, Dazai quickly averted his eyes, telling himself it would be okay. It was just a helpful tool to bring out your true feelings. To help you two get closer and bond. It would be fine if he kept using it. He was happy, and you were happier like this, too.

Happiness was best shared between both of you.

Now, he only had to figure out where he could get more drugs to ensure it.

ugh for me personally the only thing worse they could have done is make her pregnant or have a baby. i hate storylines like this im so sorry. it's different when the parent-child relationship is like the main focus or the premise of the show/movie (the mandalorian, the last of us, the walking dead game, silco taking care of powder who's the main character), but when a random ass child shows up years late to the party and needs someone to take care of them and the child character has no previous connection to the audience... i really dislike that in stories im so sorry. leave jinx alone

also, in what world is jinx ready to be a mother figure to anyone lmao she's very much stuck in a child-like state herself half the time. this is not what she needs, we both deserve better

i watched the x-men films for the first time ever here are my thoughts *spoilers obviously* :D

small backstory: i was going to go watch Deadpool & Wolverine however i have seen the previous deadpool movies but i’ve never watch the x-men films at all, my knowledge of that universe is minimal. my coworker suggested i at least watch Logan before watching Deadpool & Wolverine so i did.

Logan is easily one of the best Marvel films i have ever watched in my life, like top 3 films for sure it was amazing im still thinking about this movie weeks later. so i watch Deadpool & Wolverine and realize im low key obsessed with logan so might as well watch all the x-men films ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

ALSO I HAVE NO KNOWLEDGE FROM THE COMICS DONT COME FOR ME

The Original Trilogy

Overall i enjoyed the first two films, i think The Last Stand might be my least favorite of the whole franchise im not gonna lie

i’m just gonna say it, i was so not here for the Logan & Jean romance, like im kind of a hater so if this upsets you than this post is not for you lmao

ADORED JEANSCOTT WITH MY HEART AND SOUL !!! THEYRE SO FUCKING CUTE !!!!

Right of the bat, Logan & Jean’s romance felt SO forced. like it wasn’t believable for me, in the first movie it felt like Logan decided he was in love with Jean, not that he is actively falling in love with her, it was kinda weird

Meanwhile you can like clearly tell that Scott & Jean are in love with each other, but it feels like Logan’s character is just disregarding that

I understand in the comics it’s supposed to be a love triangle of sorts, i just think that if they wanted to do that for the films they could have portrayed it better

i’m glad the rogue crush thing died in the first film bc ohmygod that was hard to watch

my favorite is X2 of this trilogy i really liked the plot and how it expanded more into Logan’s story

The Wolverine Trilogy

Origins wasn’t like, super terrible? i guess? my least favorite of this trilogy for sure though

i liked the plot twist that his girlfriend of 6 years was manipulating him, i didn’t see it coming, i was like WOW that’s fucked up

was disappointed he forgave her like wtf 😭

deadpool thing was weird i didn’t like that

good film to learn logan’s backstory, his brother was so fucking annoying though

The Wolverine was a decent film, if ur looking for an x-men film that’s more action centric than mutant centric this is your film

it felt like a wolverine side quest lol, nothing crazy going on, but i liked it more than Origins

logan is just tired

snake lady’s powers were cool

this girl is never going to see logan again so at least she got what she could

it goes without saying that Logan 2017 is the best film in the whole x-men/fox franchise

i could definitely make a whole post going into a deep dive of Logan but i’ll just keep it short

Logan’s dedication to taking care of Charles warms my heart in a way you cannot imagine, he truly cares so deeply for that man, charles gave him the opportunity of having a new family and i feel like logan will always be grateful for him

it was like watching Logan go from only caring about kids in a “i’m a teacher” way to seeing Laura in a “i’m her caretaker now” kind of way, like there was a shift in his character that he wasn’t expecting

my little family of three that definitely lived happily ever after

my favorite scene of the whole film was when Logan realizes that it was his clone self that stabbed Charles, and his immediate gut reaction was to say “It wasn’t me” and to reassure Charles that Logan would NEVER do that

so that Charles would never die thinking one of his closest friends (AND SON FIGURE) would ever betray him like that and kill him

Logan 2017 the film that you are

X-Men Prequel Films

oh boy here go

right off the bat i’m going to say Days of Future Past exceeds all four of these films, so fucking good, my favorite after Logan

but yeah First Class wasn’t like, terrible per say, i just found myself a little bored ngl

absolutely here for eric & charles love story, they’re literally friends to lovers to enemies to still lovers but they’re still enemies i adore it

i liked the character that mystique brought (& jennifer lawrence) but it was just such a jump from the mystique in the first films

also i just think that if eric wants to kill his abuser then he should go for it ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ just saying charles it was a lil weird u wanted to stop him

i get the premise, setting up the basis of the x-men, but i just found it a little lacking

DAYS OF FUTURE PAST

amazing 10/10 movie, i genuinely enjoyed every second, actually felt like a superhero movie

great balance of logan not knowing what the fuck is going on vs charles knowing exactly what to do next & logan just going along with it i love it

i’ve heard legends of how amazing quicksilver is in these films and this went beyond my expectations, fantastic character AND amazing showcase of his powers, the writers cooked on this, also makes me want to rewatch wandavision bc i didn’t appreciate his character enough son i’m so sorry

prison breaking out eric sequence was amazing

Osamu Dazai x Ryuunosuke Akutagawa - Bungo Stray Dogs

I am well aware that this is an unpopular pairing - so firstly, don't @ me about it, because I KNOW.

Addressing the elephant in the room, yes, I know that this an immensly unhealthy relationship. Dazai straight up abused Akutagawa and then continued to torment him after leaving the Port Mafia, (ie; rubbing in his face how much better Atsushi is when the goth king is clearly besotted with you).

Dazai is an incredibly complex character and has severely toxic traits that honestly don't translate well into any potential relationship. Even in my shippiest of yaoi ship heart, I can't even imagine a happy relationship between the two of them.

THAT BEING SAID: I am a sucker for a doomed romance and anything that screams "he's horrible, but I still love him". Anyone who has ever been in an abusive relationship will empathise with a lot of Akutagawa's actions and feelings towards Dazai.

Whilst Akutagawa is clearly a victim of abuse, it doesn't make him a good person by default. Dude straight up murders people. And his crazed obsession with Dazai dictates nearly all his choices throughout the series; putting Dazai above any other loyalties or alliances.

This is one of my favourite BSD ships because, imo, this is one of the most realistic relationship dynamics that translate into real life. It's ugly, cruel, desperate, and complex. It showcases a kind of love that hurts everyone and fulfills no-one.

I Feel You Linger in the Air Ep 7 Stray Thoughts

Last week, Jom and Yai began their romance officially, and we saw further evidence that Jom's drawings are connected to the time travel or dimension hopping experience. Yai took Jom to a gay speakeasy, where James came out and expressed his attraction to Jom. Yai got jealous and turned a bit petty with Jom for a bit. However, the two had a beautiful moment where they agreed to try this. I really hope James doesn't betray us, because I liked him encouraging Yai to step up for Jom. We also confirmed that Euangphueng and Maey intentionally brought Fong Kaew to the house to distract Robert, and that Robert may be involved in the fire that killed Fong Kaew's dad and scarred her mother.

I am glad I saw a post earlier giving context that the poor women being murdered here are based on real people. Tee always has something to say about the real dangers queer people face in their lives, and it's a tense warning at the beginning of this relationship between Jom and Yai.

Unsurprisingly, the parents are anti-gay as their two queer kids suffer in front of them.

I already know this party is going to involve pairing Yai with a girl as a way to further secure the dad's power.

One of the things this show is getting right about existing under homophobic is the constant sense of surveillance hovering over you. Robert represents that so clearly.

cassette beasts is a queer little game

hello so i played CB recently and i really loved the way it handles queer characters so i’m going to write about it you can read if you like :3

english is not my first language (great way to start an analysis in a monster catching video game, i know). My first language is, unfortunately, spanish. Spanish is a fun, annoying little language. It, unlike English, is a gendered language. That means that we not only have he and she pronouns, but also they (feminine), they (masculine), it (feminine) and it (masculine) and same applies for we, but i don’t feel like writing the same format again, plus the only we i care about is the one that allows you to play mario galaxy 2 and eats too many batteries. (the wii. because we, wii… do you get it)

Anywho. What does spanish and gender and mario galaxy 2 has to do with this? i’m getting to it (except for the mario part, that’s just a cool game i felt like mentioning for no reason)

One more paragraph on context, bear with me.

So i happened to be nonbinary. Which is cool. But if your memory allows you to recall what you read two paragraphs ago, you may notice a problem.

well. There’s actually something about spanish pronouns i didn’t mention before. There actually is a secret third option: the singular gender-neutral equivalent of they: elle.

i don’t remember why i bought cassette beasts but i clearly remember the first time i opened it. First thing that caught my attention was the amount of available languages to play, considering CB was an indie game less than a year old. So i picked spanish (from spain, obviously, because there is no other place in earth that speaks spanish right?), thought ‘nice thanks’ and continued. After setting the language, you’re redirected to a character creation screen. Among the settings offered to customize your character, the very first one is ‘pronouns’. And for a second i stood there, remembering this part of the process in all my pokemon playthrough, and trying to figure out whether i’ll feel less uncomfortable playing as a boy or as a girl this time around. And then i moved the setting and noticed… a third option!!??

yeah! a third, gender-neutral spanish option. like. i have played like a gender-neutral character before, mostly nonhuman characters with tragic destinies and a white color palette, you know the ones. and i loved the knight and ori and survivor. i’ve always adored nonhuman characters, and i love to be represented by them!

but…

did you know that none of these characters are nb in their spanish versions? as i said, spanish is hard and stupid, and what even is ‘elle’?. so as much as i love the knight, i only came to identify with them after beating the game because all the time i played hollow knight they were referred to as ‘the knight (masculine)’. same with all the others

so i love nonhuman they/it characters! but, as much as i would like it to be, i’m not a nonhuman they/it. i’m a person (tragic, i know) and i speak spanish and i go by elle.

And for the first time in my life, the characters i was moving around in my little blue switch’s screen, actually felt like me. it was me!

ok so that’s it! CB it’s a great game with spanish settings and gender neutral pronouns! queer of the year! or whatever.

part 2

after you create your very cool new character (whose aspect and pronouns you can change at any time btw) you are put into the CB world. Short summary: you land on an island in the middle of space and time, where a lot of people from other places, dimensions and times have also landed before. oh! and nobody can leave. Also. there are monsters, and you scan them with an old walkman and turn into them to fight other monsters and get moth wings to fly for a little time. (so pronouns, spanish an moth wings?! I'm sold <- you rn when i just convinced you of playing CB)

so that’s the game.

The first person to talk to you after you arrive here is a young girl called Kayleigh (you have no idea how many times i’ve rewritten this name in the hopes of getting it right-> i had to use the wiki). she will also be your first partner. in this game, all combats are double, which means you’ll always be traveling with another character. the first one you unlock is her. There are several others including autism girl from the 80s, a dog and a.. Shakespeare character?

(that’s autism girl btw) (and no i did not redraw it sowrry)

and as with many rpg games, the more you spend time with these characters, the more your relationships level increases, which allows you to fuse your souls as monsters and create a limitless amount of beast with various lever of weird and cool designs! (because of course it does, have i mentioned this game is cool?). but besides that, after you have spent enough time with a character they’ll give you a little cutscene, taking about themselves, their story, and when you reach the maximum level of hearts (representing your relationship), you get the opportunity to romance them.

and so i did, mostly out of curiosity. i won’t tell you what happened every time because a) i don’t want to romance eugene i refuse to; b) i don’t want to spoil it; and c) if this was a video, doing so would be filler time that you could spend watching an actual unnecessary long video

ok since Kayleigh is your first partner (and has the coolest monster out of them all), she was the first i had the opportunity to romance. and it was very cute. her dialogue is very in character and she almost immediately accepted your insinuation ¿? (idk love terminology sorry)

And then i kept playing and i decided to try and romance Meredith aka the best character in the video game. and i was kind of expecting the game to get mad at me for romancing more than one character. but here is what happened

first, her reaction was again, very in character. while Kayleigh almost immediately agrees, she first takes a moment to think, then saying she has never dated someone other than man but she still likes you and would like to give this a try! but slowly as she is figuring things out. (like is it me or is that just very cool) (a little note: i may have confused Meredith and Kayleigh reactions, and the wiki is almost empty so it didnt help. but these stuff happened at some point i promise)

also the game did not get mad at me

one time while talking to Meredith she mentioned something about exclusivity, just kind of saying she doesn’t mind (the game acknowledged it?)

other time Kayleigh was just casually kind of flirting with another character (the shakespeare one btw, she’s also very cool)

like isn’t that very cool and interesting. it’s also all very lighthearted and made me feel very nice despite the fact i’m very aro and usually wouldn’t care in the slightest.

conclusion: you can use any pronouns you choose to, you can romance characters in a genuine queer way they’ll actually acknowledge and you can romance more than one and it doesn’t start yelling at you. that’s very cool!

but……

i once watched a (probably unnecessarily long) video about videogames and queerness and how in a lot of games the queer part is only there if you choose to look for it. yeah you can romance both boys and girls despite your gender, but you can also not. a non-queer person choosing to romance only the opposite gender would never realize there was something queer going on. and that is great for your game because now people will buy it despite their """opinions”””

but if you do that is your game really queer? is CB really queer?

i could argue, and i will, that the mere inclusion of the pronouns setting, the gender-neutral option, the fact you can wear a dress and beard at the same time, and your ability to change both appearance and pronouns as many times as you wish, already make CB a very queer inclusive game. but

let’s say you somehow didn’t notice all that, or choose to ignore it, after all it’s only the character creation screen, who cares.

is cassette beasts still a queer (inclusive) game?

yes!

they translated the game 3 (oh, there you were) times only for spanish (surprise, spanish gender affects a lot of things other than pronouns so yeah you’ll have to go over the entire game 3 times to translate it), so of course there’s other unavoidable queer stuff in the silly monster game. let’s talk about them

the two women in charge of the camp, who act as kind of the final gym leader equivalent, are together and married. and you have to fight them! and they will tell you they’re gay and married and they will fuse to fight you (they are of the very few characters to be able to do this) because you know, that’s just something gay people can do.

and then there’s Bas (apparently their name in English is Skip). you’ll never guess the color of their hair or their pronouns. they literally are blue hair and pronouns guy (gender neutral). and i love their design btw. i’m not sure how obvious they identify is, i notice it because the fact i was playing in spanish made apparent the pronouns indirectly in every sentence. but i figure if it’s not clearly stated in english, you still have the very much blue hair and androgynous look to work with.

also also i almost forget

so yeah. i don’t play much rpg games or many games that are not hk and rw… so maybe CB representation is just average but it really felt special to me and i just wanted to write about the feeling i got while playing as my queer self in silly world fighting cosmic horrors with nice music and stuff.

So I may have been slightly hyped for this book the past few months

For the three of you who haven't heard about this, MMPR: The Return is a story set in the future of an alternate universe of the MMPRs; one where Jason, Zack, and Trini didn't give up their powers upon the eve of the Peace Conference, and thus the team stayed together even after high school. But fast forward twenty-two years later, and the team has broken up due to some sort of tragedy - we know from the Re-Imagine prologue in the 30 Year Anniversary book, Zordon and Alpha were destroyed by Zedd and Rita. But other stuff seems to have happened too. What is that stuff? I guess we're about to find out!

Oh, and I should mention this was written by the original Pink Ranger herself, Amy Jo Johnson. (and her partner, Matt Hotson.) That might be important to know.

It's Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: The Return #1!

= Three pages in and Jason's already getting his ass kicked. You're forty-five years old, man, you should be at the club

= I know this was debated a bit when the book was announced - how it would line up with Thuy and JDF's passings, especially after coming off the heels of Once and Always, where the focal point was Trini's daughter taking up her powers after Trini's death. (For what it's worth, this book was first conceived pre-pandemic, long before OaA. Making comics takes a long time.) And while Tommy is still a bit up in the air (despite what we'll see in a few pages) Trini does seem to have definitively passed due to illness.

While I definitely get the frustration of Thuy's passing essentially sealing Trini's fate - especially in a comic book, where you don't have to worry about actor restrictions - I'm a little more generous towards it here because Amy and Thuy were close friends and she actually dealt with her death personally compared to how the OaA writers, well......didn't. And this issue is clearly paralleling Kimberly's motivations and feelings to Amy's real-life ones, so this just feels like another part of that.

(Also to contrast OaA's handling of Trini - a) her passing here isn't caused by a graphic onscreen explosion, proving the whole "well they HAD to show it onscreen for more impact!!!" was bullshit b) her friends AND THE WIDER COMMUNITY are actually grieving and talking about her impact on everyone as well as using the non-actor-restriction to SHOW it and c) The book actually gives her a JOB. TWO jobs!!!!!!! Yeah OaA why the fuck did you send ZACK to Congress WHEN IT CLEARLY SHOULD HAVE BEEN TRINI

Ariel Takes the Wheel

Scene 1: Ariel "Just Forgot"

King Triton (1989): "I just don't know what we're going to do with you, young lady."

Ariel (1989): "Daddy, I'm sorry, I just forgot, I--"

King Triton (2023): "It's irresponsible. Your sisters are only here for one phase of the Coral Moon. Can you imagine any one of them missing the gathering?"

Ariel (2023): "No, you're right. I'm sorry." (Excuse the watermark; I don't know where else to find images.) Of course, Flounder comes to her defense in the LA just like the 1989 version, saying it wasn't her fault, but Ariel realizes her mistake and takes full responsibility.

Scene 2: Blaming Sebastian

Ariel never blames anyone but herself in the 2023 version. She knows it's wrong to make the deal with Ursula in both versions, but the Live Action Ariel does not do it just for herself, but for both worlds -- after all, humans and merpeople may be different, but that doesn't make them enemies. Shipwrecks are alarmingly frequent, taking the lives of humans and damaging the seafloor below. Were the relations between the two peoples mended, perhaps their respective worlds could mend as well.

Thus, the stakes are higher. Had Triton been willing to listen while she had her voice (and it is understandable why he wasn't), she would never have had to give it up to be heard. 2023 Ariel not only rebels against her father because he made her upset (and she's obsessed with a human prince), but because she is doing what she believes is right for herself and her people. Since she heard Eric express a similar desire to bridge the gap between their kingdoms and the rest of the world (a desire she has never heard expressed by anyone else), it is only natural that she forms an immediate attachment to him. His beautiful face is not a motivating factor, but a nice bonus, and proof that humans are not all monsters.

Scene 3: Ariel "Didn't Mean To"

Ariel (1989): "Daddy, I'm sorry, I-I didn't mean to! I didn't know!"

Ariel (2023): "I'm sorry, Father, this was all my fault."

The point of this comparison is to highlight how important it was that Ariel took the wheel of the ship at the end. These are two very different characters, and thus their character arcs are different. Ariel in 1989 was curious, naïve, stubborn, rebellious in the typical adolescent fashion, and innocent as an infant. Her arc wasn't the noblest for a princess, as notwithstanding her mistakes and lack of character growth, she managed to receive all that she desired in the end. She didn't need to kill Ursula because Eric was there to do it for her, just as Scuttle was there to stall the wedding and retrieve her voice, and Sebastian was there all the way along to get her closer to Eric. Animated Ariel did not take responsibility for her actions. How could she, when she didn't know any better? Every movement she made was in her own self-interest (though I think by the end she really did love Eric as a person and not just a pretty face). Still, we love her because she is the picture of wide-eyed, adventurous youth, and there is much room for her yet to grow up, even after she's married. Because of her carefree innocence, it's nigh impossible to hate her.

Live Action Ariel is also carefree to a point, but the weight of her title and responsibilities shines through in her character. She is ignorant about the Above World (by no means from lack of effort), but clearly educated as a princess should be regarding her own. She is less stubborn in her naivety and more secure in her sense of right and wrong. There is an important distinction to be made between knowing what is right and remaining steadfast in that knowledge, versus remaining immovable in one's obliviousness.

So why was it important that Ariel took the wheel in the climax? Because she had taken the wheel all along. Had she been trapped in a vortex like in the cartoon, a damsel in distress, it would have been a disservice to her particular character arc -- that of a girl who took responsibility for her actions at every turn. "Those sacrifices you made were a choice that you can't undo," she sings in 'For the First Time.' This thread of action->consequence->action would have been left dangling, unresolved if she had suddenly lost all power.

Does this in any way diminish Eric's character? Not at all. He was willing to sacrifice his life to be with Ariel through the storm. He did everything in his power to save her. He still threw the spear, which undoubtedly saved her life in that moment (and, might I say, was a display of incredible competence to have an aim underwater like that). In that way, he repays her in kind, after she'd rescued him from drowning.

As an aside, she mimics his exact movement when he had steered the ship earlier in the film. Had she not observed what he did in that storm, she might not have known what to do in the final battle.

Ariel still needed help -- she still needed the support and aid of her animal companions, Eric, the castle staff, and her father. BUT she also took plenty of action to satisfy her arc, avenged her father's death, and she gave credit where it was due:

Ariel (2023): "You gave your life for me."

King Triton (2023): "And you fought to get my life back."

Ariel (2023): "I didn't fight alone, Father. Eric was with me."

I hope this post makes it a little clearer why robbing Ariel of her ability to act in the climax of the film would have been a poor choice, specifically in the Live Action. And, by the way, you can still prefer one or the other, or neither. While I don't dislike the cartoon, I obviously prefer the more mature and responsible Ariel.

SO I have a ton of lore about this because of John's character sheet from the roleplay. A lot of this will overlap with RP John! But I have lots of new ideas too. They really are adorable together!! 💖💖💖

John's background as a werewolf would be similar to what I've done in the roleplay. He was turned at a very young age and raised as a living weapon at the Tarkovsky Theater, which is a training ground specifically for werewolves. They are taught to control their abilities and use them in assassinations. They are a secret weapon of the High Table.

My werewolves are very monstrous. They draw their power from the darkness behind the moon - the legend goes that when the moon is covering up the darkness, night emanates from the werewolves instead of from the sky. So they have a black fog that flows off of their bodies and creates fear and other very negative emotions in anyone that it touches. They are full wolves, but much larger than a regular wolf, and with weirdly long limbs and creepy glowing eyes. They can stand on their back legs, but they usually run on all fours.

John is a jet black werewolf with white eyes and very sleek fur. Santino is brown with glowing green eyes and curly fur around his neck (I really liked that from your ideas :3), and the darkness that surrounds him is more murky and smoky rather than a pure black like John's. And yes, he's also a bit smaller than John.

Changing into a werewolf can be voluntary or involuntary. When they do it on purpose, it isn't painful. But it happens against their will on the full moon, or when they become too enraged to control themselves, and when that's the case, it feels like every muscle is being torn apart. They're screaming from pain and very sore afterwards.

Okay, with the lore out of the way, the story between the two of them:

John doesn't like being a werewolf - it's something that the High Table uses to control him. So he doesn't want Santino to have to go through that. But he changes Santino to save his life. He was severely injured and John bit him because werewolves heal faster than humans. (It'd have to be an injury that kills you slowly, because the first change takes about a day. So I imagine they had both been kidnapped and held for ransom, and Santino was dying of an infection in a stab wound.)

This has a major effect on who Santino is as a person, because it forces him to work through his trauma. To me, being a werewolf is all about having uncontrollable outbursts of anger and fear. And learning to control when you change, learning to change back into a human, thinking clearly and remembering who you are when you're in wolf form...all of that comes from managing your emotions. So John has to show Santino the techniques he learned at the Tarkovsky for managing anger, dealing with panic attacks, meditating, etc.

They're also the only two people who aren't bothered by each other's darkness. No one else can touch them or pet them when they're in wolf form because of that terrifying fog that surrounds them. John has never been petted before he meets Santino </3 But they don't scare each other, so they can nuzzle against each other and give each other comfort.

At the end of their story, once they're happy husbands, Santino has a more positive outlet for all of that rage, too, because he has learned how to enjoy being a werewolf. They go through the change together. They go on runs through the forest together every month and just yell about everything that's bothering them (aka howl at the moon) and tear things up and eat deer and playfight and act cute and freaky together and finally curl around each other, tired out, until they wake up naked in each other's arms in the soft morning sunlight. 💙🖤

Why bashing fics annoy me.

I get really fed up with people bashing Ron into the film Ron, or worse ("Moron Weasley"). And not understanding that Harry likes his bossy friend Hermione. (Who is so far from a Mary Sue, it's not funny. JKR accidentally made her a bit of a monster by making her a self-insert.) They're not perfect people, but also, Harry's "a bit moody and stuff."

I really think post-war they could have a great, awkward, complicated coming-of-age story, with a teensy bit of baggage from the war. (And of course, our best girl, Daphne Q. Greengrass. )

In hindsight, long series are utterly horrible to write when you get tired of them; so JKR writing Deathly Hallows and ending with a crap Epilogue is just a writer writing an exit. (And a writer not fond of character-driven writing, really, so not something she'd want to do anyway.)

What? What's all that about Daphne Greengrass?

This is, as they say, the way.

The whole Harry-Ginny thing is so awful in the books, that it's just, well, no. Also, something about abandoning her to the tender mercies of Death Eaters at Hogwarts for a year.

Ginny's two characters badly mashed into one. How does the shy girl obsessed with Harry Potter turn into a fiery cool chick? Well, the secret is, you just write 'and Ginny was a fiery cool chick.' Because Ginny gets a lot of tell not show. (And being possessed for a year is initially traumatic, but then she's just fine. That's of course, because JKR had no idea what horrible gross trauma might do to a young person, so she, like many writers, mostly ignored it. Wrote it, it's there for one chapter, then gone. The one line in the entire series that hints at it, where Harry's complaining after the Department of Mysteries fiasco about having been possessed by Voldemort, Ginny basically said, "uh, that happened to me too." and Harry says, "Oh, I forgot." Now, if Ginny was a real person, with like, feelings, at that point her hero, Harry Potter, is... clearly unable to imagine her point of view, relate to her, and had... literally forgotten her most important, traumatic life event, because he was self-centered.

Now that also makes Harry a teenage boy, but it seemed to me like that would be the death-knell for feelings grown-up Ginny had for Harry Potter. He is, in fact, the protagonist, and knows it. (I'd love to see a writer really deconstruct how bloody annoying protagonists are.)

So, it might be a surprise, but I don't think Ginny bashing is particularly cool either. I might argue that book 1-2 Ginny is dead by the beginning of book 3, but post-Chamber Ginny is just a girl who wants to play professional quidditch. And why not; she's been flying since she could steal a broom at night. As a fanfic writer, I have to get Ginny out of the way so I can ship Harry with Daphne Greengras, but apart from that, she's just a person.

If Harry is taken from her by plot devices like marriage contacts, she's angry, and won't let go without a fight; fair enough actually.

And if she decided she'd had enough of Harry, well, she doesn't care post-Hogwarts. (And I've got a short where she works out that post-Battle-of-Hogwarts Harry is most plausibly Tom Riddle, playing a long con, and dumps him like last weeks fish-heads. That short is the starter for many of my postwar fics.)

And if I've had too much coffee, I'll take the terrible fanfic that is 'cursed child' and turn it into a postwar Harry/Ginny marriage, and eventual breakup, because if CC is canon, they're destined to break up.

Enough bashing already.

So, anyway, you might wonder why Daphne Greengrass (or not , of you've read my writings.) I'll ignore your (and mine) misgivings and dump some exposition here.

We need a character Harry hasn't already had a negative interaction with. And as Harry is someone who could 'have been great in Slytherin' and will, literally, use any means to achieve his ends... Slytherin girls might get him a bit better than other ones.

Daphne Greengrass exists, (and from the classlist) is in Slytherin, pureblood and Harry has never been rude to her face. (That's actually quite a short list of girls at Hogwarts that he's not either been identified as 'The Heir of Slyterin' by, (all of Hufflepuff) Disliked for bullying Luna, or at least letting it slide (All of Ravenclaw.) Or in dorms with, so they've seen him at his least appealing, with only two friends (All of Gryffindor.)

And he's from the wrong side of the tracks, (though actually at least conceptually rich before that thing with his bank) and she's got a posh name. Yeah, lets do a romance.

See, it makes perfect sense.

She'd got to be dressing really frumpily if she's got a model-like figure! (Oh god, 'She's all that' flashbacks. ((It's a film about teenagers made in the 1980s and it aged like spoiled milk.))) And Daphne can't have a model-like face... there is a girl that's not Ginny who's really pretty at Hogwarts, and it's Cho Chang. And Harry dated her. (It was a disaster. Harry's got a type. Pretty. Ginny's so pretty, Blaise Zabini mentions it.)

We'll leave the concept of post-Hogwarts glow-ups on the table, as it were.

I was just talking to someone about Venom 3, what we’ve arrived at for the future (fic or wild dreams for the films) —

Bring in Spiderman during the next one. Venom runs into Spidey while looking to Eddie OR is avoiding Eddie so headed to NY -avoiding for to protect him either bc of codex or bc he thinks he’s better off without Venom. The movie is mostly from Eddie’s point of view tho, he’s not ok. His life sucks. He’s very depressed. His journalism career is going bad, he’s obsessed with Spiderman, he’s moved more into photography but some fucking kid (20-30 year old) keeps getting better shots. Anne is avoiding his calls allegedly for “an incident”. What the incident is is never addressed or multiple things are given, for the latter it is bc it was multiple incidents.

so Venom bonds with Spidey. And they’re really enjoying it actually. Both of them. Pete isn’t doing great either but clearly not as bad as Eddie -whom he is barely aware of. Once Venom finds Eddie -I’m running with the avoiding him idea next- he keeps avoiding him bc he still believes that Eddie is better off and in less danger. Eventually Pete reaches his limit and rejects Venom.

Venom and Eddie get back together and embrace it more than ever. Eddie has come to the understanding that he needs Venom as much as Venom wants him -he can still be a bit grumpy in the old married couple sorta way. I imagine elated manic reunion followed by some fighting bc a) What do you mean Anee isn’t speaking to you?! What did you do?!!; b) Well you were with Spidey this whole fucking time then!?? Followed by Eddie a) learning Spidey is the fucking photography kid, Peter Parker; b) Pete broke up with rejected Venom and actually made Venom sad and it hurt a lot :(. So then they do their Spidey fight. Which leads to the fanfic and the more likely options.

Fight with Spidey does happen. So now is a very important time to mention that the preferred casting for him is Andrew Garfield for this whole thing. Which leads to the fanfic and studio tolerated options—

fanfic: there’s a lot more yelling and explaining happening. Fight ends when Eddie and Pete start making out. That’s the rest of the story, y’all can take it from their. Two disaster bisexuals and their symbiote.

Studio tolerated: they fight brutally and stop because both are too beat up. Then later they team up to fight something else since it’s a Venom movie with Eddie as the main host character. Yeah I I’ll be honest we didn’t have as much for this one.

For both: Anne and Eddie make up. Also clearly his life starts to get better. Eddie and Venom can now fight about that.

The end?

Ooo! Here’s an idea. More Venom babies are who they fight! This sets up the next movie to be the Sleeper pregnancy and birth and then basically follows that with trying to protect Sleeper from the government and keep them alive.

heartbreak: Have they ever had a relationship that ended badly? Experienced some other kind of heartbreak? What happened?

THIS IS SO LAAATE I think the character to talk about in this regard would be G'amal if that's ok!! (thank u @sand-seeks-sun for the art hehe <3 )

He's had a fair share of relationships, most very short lived, but the few that he'd deem as serious have always ended in a mess.

To start off... his first ever relationship had just been a cruel prank so one can imagine why that ended..

Many years later, after being exiled from his tribe, G'amal had met an ex-nunh and in desperate want of companionship, the two grew close. But it was never healthy, not even at the start. The ex-nunh was /very/ controlling, from having say in who he could be around to nitpicking his habits and manipulating his emotions.

It was a relationship was that incredibly difficult to leave but G'amal literally just did that.. He just left one day and never made contact again... at least, until recently. In writings that Nick and I do, the ex-nunh has found him again and been obsessively trying to be a problem in G'amal's life again. It's not like before cause Gamal is clearly married now so really it's just annoying whenever he pops up...

AND THEN!! he met another WoL and sort of considered him a mentor. Before he knew it the two of them were together and getting wed.. but it was never a healthy relationship for more often than not G'amal would be ridiculed if not downright neglected by him. His husband was even cheating on him in the marriage.

Luckily that had been the final straw for the bard so the two got a divorce and after that G'amal just sort of hopped around in relationships up until he met Ijsbrand.... and that's a story of pinning and romance, not one of heartbreak....♡(｡- ω -)

I'm super curious how an actual poly relationship with Rowan and Marvolo would go. 🤔 Do you have thoughts or head cannons on that? (I'm clearly not obsessed with having them both...PFFTT 👀)

Oh girl, trust me, it's something I think about, daily, in a personal sense 🤣🤣

I think the only reason I don't write them being in a poly relationship is because it would go against my HC for Marvolo, with him being such a "MINE" person when it comes to his love for MC. Like, he'd happily engage in a 3 way though. But when it comes to a personal, romantic relationship I think that's something Marvolo would struggle with. I mean, of course, these are literally my characters 🤣 I could change that up if I really wanted to.

When I do MC posts with Marvolo and Rowan separately, I tend to imagine in my head two different MC's, or like, AU, or me tbh haha 🤣

But I'm not heavily against the idea of them being in a poly relationship or anything, and I'm definitely not against them having the occasional 3way fun 🫦🤣
