So last week, Shubble (streamer, she/they) hosted a stream about their experiences with an unnamed abuser. You can watch it here (if you prefer to read, turn on CC & read the transcript). It's a pretty hard-hitting video, and people pretty immediately guessed that it was, in fact, Wilbur Soot. He's since confirmed it himself in a statement/kind of apology (?) which u can find on his twitter... Shubble has, understandably, rejected it.

That's the short answer!

Uh for a longer one lol, there's more info here: this is an EXCELLENT conversation Shubble had (before W*lbur was officially named) with her friend lexiemariex. They both talk about the abuse and misogyny they've faced as women dating within the streaming community. Neither of them named anyone at this point either, and I actually haven't had time to watch the whole thing yet !! But about 45 minutes in so far they have both shared a lot of really important perspectives on domestic abuse, their experiences as victims (in their words) during & in recovery from those relationships, and about the really harmful norms within streaming.

Just to add a couple comments of my own: if a community is MAINLY dominated by white cis men, that's usually NOT a coincidence; it's usually (at least partly) because the environment is hostile to diversity. Several other people have also come forward about negative experiences with Shubble's ex in particular, but I REALLY think--personally--that it is a mistake to focus just on him. He is, for better or worse, Just Some Guy: it REALLY sounds like his behaviours reflect a deeply harmful culture within streaming. We can't and should not try to cancel all streamers, obviously! But... if we REALLY want to centre survivors? We need to hold the whole community accountable for the CULTURE they've gotten comfortable with.

To be clear, I'm not suggesting that all white men in streaming are malicious people, who only want to hurt/abuse/have power over the weak & helpless women in their sphere. But there's been writing on the wall for a long time: there's a lot of casual misogyny that we HAVE seen streamers ignore, even if they wouldn't (necessarily...) make those jokes themselves. I do NOT have receipts on hand lol, but that's been my observation over the years. So I think it's... too simplistic to say that Shubble's ex, and lexie's, were just outliers. A couple of bad eggs.

We can cancel them, and exile them from streaming, sure--fine. We certainly don't owe anyone a platform. But we also NEED to look beyond the individual people & understand that every single one of them is a product of their culture and community.

tl;dr Shubble's ex is shitty, for sure, but he's not the whole problem! He's a symptom.

watched batman begins. it was aight 😭 rewatched matt reeves' batman right after. liked it betterr. i LOVEDDD heartbreak high, s1 and s2 !! usually with shows i only like s1 best, but w heartbreak high i literally ADOREDDD s2, the finale was so good !!! im also watching the gentlemen (the show) rn, and i rllyyy like it hehe. tried watching tick tick boom again bcs I'd actually dropped it midway when it had first released bcs that one scene where she was like "you're thinking of a song rn aren't you" was so stress inducing that I had 2 click away 💀💀 n then i forgot abt it. picked it up again and omg it's actually so good how did I miss it the first time 😭😭😭

Kakashi scoffed and refocused on the scroll before him. He was staring, but it's not like he was going to outright admit it.

"How would you know, if you're reading that scroll?"

He felt your shoulder brush against his as you bumped into him.

"Same way you managed to stare at me while reading yours."

He hummed noncommittally, doing his best to ignore the warm tingle the brief contact of your shoulder induced in him.

When you chuckled at his lack of response, any hope of ignoring that feeling disappeared immediately.

How many times had the two of you done this? Not always over a pile of forbidden scrolls searching for answers to Sasuke's Cursed Seal, of course, but in a thousand other places.

You were one of the people he trusted best. Alongside Gai and Tenzo, Kakashi considered you his closest friend.

Unlike Gai and Tenzo, however, Kakashi was relatively certain you were always flirting with him. It didn't make him uncomfortable--in fact, he found himself looking forward to your interactions--but it definitely managed to fluster him on a semi-regular basis.

The two of you seemed trapped in this strange purgatory, and he found himself unsure of how long it could last.

"Hey."

Kakashi didn't show it outwardly, but he was startled by your voice, which felt too loud against the quiet rustling of paper. He took a slow breath to steady himself under the pretense of reaching a good place to stop reading on his current scroll.

Then, he turned to find you watching him with a coy smirk on your face, cheek resting against your palm as your elbow balanced on the desk the two of you were sharing in the Hokage's archives.

"Yes?"

"How long are we gonna do this before you finally take the hint?"

Something about the smug way you were looking at him lit a competitive fire in Kakashi's belly and he leaned forward, balancing his cheek against his fist as he invaded your personal space.

"And what hint is that supposed to be?" he asked, voice low and inviting.

For the first time in all your interactions, he saw something akin to surprise flash in your eyes and he basked in the momentary lapse in your cool exterior.

You leaned a few inches closer and Kakashi could feel the warmth of your breath fan over his face when you said, "I think you know quite well what I'm hinting at."

Kakashi met your challenge by leaning in a few other centimeters, until your noses threatened to bump if one of you breathed too heavily. He made an exaggerated expression of deep thought.

"I'm afraid not. Care to elaborate?"

There was that flicker of uncertainty again and Kakashi felt his stomach flip as his lips pulled into a triumphant smirk, the fabric of his mask growing taught over his nose and cheeks.

The two of you stayed there, frozen in place a hair's breadth away from one another. Kakashi could smell the sweetened tea you'd had when he first met up with you as you breathed. His eye traced the subtle lines of your face, noting the way your smirk shifted subtly with each moment, the muscles around your mouth quivering slightly as they held the expression for longer than expected.

He wondered how long you would sit here with him before you huffed and turned back to your work, accusing him of not being any fun.

"Fuck it."

Kakashi's heart slammed into his chest when he realized what was happening.

Because instead of more teasing or flirting, you had leaned forward and pressed your mouth against his cloth-covered lips and he was frozen in surprise. Suddenly, he wondered what the fabric must feel like against your mouth. Did it taste weird? He could feel sweat gathering at his temples as he tried to remember whether he'd laundered this one or given it a quick rinse in the sink with Pakkun's shampoo as he sometimes did when pressed for time...

When you pulled back, he was pleased to see you were equally flustered by your surprisingly bold move.

"There. I've elaborated," you said, turning your attention back to the scroll in your hands with determined ferocity.

Kakashi's mind whirled, thoughts racing in time with his heart.

You turned to look at him, appearing far more bashful than he'd ever seen you.

The look did not abate when you pressed his naked lips to yours after tugging down his mask. If anything, your eyes grew wider as you made a muffled sound of astonishment.

That was fine, though. The two of you would have plenty of time to talk it over later. For now, he wanted to make sure you knew his mouth tasted better than his laundry detergent.
