He's just quiet. Or so you thought.

"Your grandma sounds nice," you say, truly smiling as he finishes telling you about the treats his grandmother sent from back home.

He grins, blushing a little. Maybe from embarrassment, maybe from the drinks. "Yeah... She's strong too, you know."

"Is she?" you ask.

"She's got the heart of a lion."

"And a lifetime ban from the zoo."

Your jaw drops and you let out a giggle while he grins again. "Stop, that was terrible," you insist, taking a sip of your drink. But you're still giggling a little.

His face creases and you realize that the weirdly quiet guy from maths isn't weird.

So naturally he needs you to become his friend. Right? Right. Probably not but you take up the task anyway, happily dragging him along to parties and clubs on weekends. He goes along with it, longsuffering and looking miserable, but always ends up cracking jokes that have even your most judgmental friends liking him.

Oscar's like that, you realize, watching him cringe over the house music playing. He pretends not to care but he does. He cares more than you, sometimes. Especially about people he loves, like that American guy that follows him around like a lost puppy, and the super posh guy that you and your friend joke is actually a serial killer

His friends and your friends become a group. Neither from either side have anything in common other than attending the same university. None seem to really like the others really but put up with them because Oscar makes it worth it.

You've all been studying for exams, gathering in the posh guy's off campus flat because it's the biggest and has the best furniture and the best food, and you're in the kitchen fixing coffee when Oscar finds you. There's chatter in the dining room, your friends arguing over a minute detail in some show you haven't watched yet.

"Are they getting rowdy?" you ask, taking down another mug - they all match, George is third year and all his dishes match - and pour him some coffee.

"No more than usual." Oscar murmurs a thank you, leaning against the counter as the arguing turns into laughter.

"You hate that I've dragged you into this hysteria don't you?" you murmur.

"What?"

You smile against the rim of your mug. You like the way he says what, all exaggerated and so very Australian. What does that even mean? You have no idea. You just know you like it. "They're a bit..."

"Loud?" Oscar asks, his face dead serious as absolute silence comes from the dining room.

"You," you mutter, lightly shoving at his shoulder before leaning against him, dropping your hand.

"They're alright," he promises. "They keep George and Logan bonkers."

You laugh, because your friends do love tormenting his friends. And vice versa. "Come on, let's try to get them to focus on work."

Back in the dining room you're working your way through the problem that you've been struggling with when you notice Logan keeps giving you weird looks after he comes back from the toilet. You ignore him because, well, it's Logan, and he tends to always give people weird looks.

There's rustling and whispering around you and then George looks up from his laptop and you freeze, suddenly feeling everyone's eyes on you and Oscar.

"What's all this then?" George asks.

"You sound just like my grandad," your friend groans before turning to you. "When did this story arc happen?"

"Yeah, I thought you two were still stuck on ew that's my friend," Logan chimed in.

"What?" This from Oscar.

George points a pen at you both. "That."

And then you feel it. Your hand in Oscar's - his thumb tapping yours, the calluses from his love of the gym, warm and comforting and—

I’m obsessed with this show and fear a hyperfixation anyways here are my thoughts on every character in the show

Edwin Paine: forever my favorite, even back before the show when I read the comics! I think it’s funny that basically every man in the show wants him? I’m intrigued by his character arc throughout the story regarding his sexuality as despite dying in 1916, he seems to have had time to slowly become more accepting of gay people (I’m guessing in part due to Charles, who is pansexual), to the point where there’s only mild internalized homophobia if at all, which just exhibits itself in him denying any possible feelings for Monty. I love how face-value and logical he is while still being a sweetheart

Charles Rowland: he has a pan flag pin on his jacket which confuses me bc can ghosts only wear clothes they would’ve worn when they were alive, or how do ghost clothes work? Because he died in 1989 and I’m near positive he didn’t wear that pin back there. Anyways I do love him but I wonder about some design choices, like the one earring (not sure why it just kinda annoys me). That was more a rant abt his design than his character, which I have nothing notable to say abt since I LOVE HIM he’s so real

Crystal Palace: sometimes she was a bit annoying the way she was trying way too hard to pry into everyone’s lives, but honestly that was just momentary annoyance since nothing could make me hate her. I love how her past was slowly revealed (as someone who already knew it from the comics) and how she came to terms with the person she used to be vs the person she is now. She’s so cool!

David the demon: honestly kind of caught me off guard at first bc the person I’m dating is named David but I actually enjoyed his character. LOVED when Crystal dealt with him in the end. He was very interesting

Niko Sasaki: I love Niko, but I have some problems with her character. First of all, I feel like ditsy anime-loving cutesy Asian girl with dyed hair is a weirdly common trope? But whatever my main issue is that it feels like characters who normalize the fetishization of gay men are so common. Like if Niko had been a guy obsessed with lesbian manga evb would be weirded out, so why is it different? If we ignore all of this tho I absolutely adore her and I’m actually praying she’s in the next season bc she was one of my favorites (esp her relationship w Edwin)

Jenny: She is so hot and cool and funny I’m in love with her

Esther: oh my god words cannot come close to describing how much I love her character. She felt powerless and weak in the past and now she’s become obsessed with making sure nobody has that power over her ever again. She was so fun and I loved her attitude! I’m sure she won’t show up next season, as she was the main antagonist of s1, and while I love her, I kind of hope she doesn’t since I think her arc was finished.

Monty: His personality was like 2020 “soft boy” who acts nice and dumb but is lowkey a manipulator. So obviously this kind of made me like ☠️ bc why is he acting like that… but I still love him to bits because he’s just a crow guys he didn’t ask to be human,, Anyways yeah his personality annoys me but also I love him so much so? It’s confusing. ITS COMPLICATED. I will cry if he’s not in s2

Kingham and Litty: I honestly thought they were annoying but I can’t lie they were so fucking funny. Every time they were on screen I laughed.

Cat King: oh my god. He is so camp. I love him. There’s honestly not much to say he is simply iconic. Love how he’s afraid to be alone so chases after other people, he’s so real AGHH I love him

Night Nurse: Ruth Connell the woman you are… 😍 she reminds me of Muriel from Good Omens, in a way, and I love her! I really hope we get to see more of her in relation to the guy in the fish, and see her get to better understand human emotions and why they choose to cling onto the human world rather than pass on!

I’m going to be honest, it was pretty tough to match you up; I had way too many options that I was looking through. Unfortunately for me, I have a bad habit of hyperfocusing on the first character that comes to my head, so Jiaoqiu it is!

Ironically, I do believe he’s quite a flattering fit for you. Jiaoqiu is a very emotionally smart and strong character, so I’m certain he’s able to pick up on your thought process as well as you can with other people.

He knows how struggling it can be to be so tough on oneself and also prefers to keep his emotional moments private. So I’m sure he can pick up on your coping strategies quickly.

He probably won’t give you two shots of vodka and a nap, but he’ll certainly listen to whatever you need. You need to be left alone? He’ll give you space. You want a hot tea? Which one? He’ll make you thirty different aromas. You get the gist; he ain’t the type of boyfriend to try and pry his way into your walls if you don’t want him to.

Just to clarify, I’m talking about up-to-date Jiaoqiu.

Now considering Jiaoqiu’s lack of vision, physical touch is a must. This man only feels content when he has a hand on you. The warmth of your body melting into his makes him feel safe.

And it doesn’t stop there, behind closed doors. He’s like a clingy teddy bear. Constant cuddles with Jiaoqiu are a must. He definitely shows up late to work a lot with some poor excuse, but in reality, he just wanted “five more minutes” in bed by your side. (those five minutes became half an hour.)

If your feeling cheeky, stroke his ears or tail while you’re in bed, and he’ll get flustered real quick. He pretends he hates it, but my god, if only you knew.

And during weekends, staying in bed together is a must. Simply basking in each other's presence. Sometimes you’ll have a book by your side, which you’ll read in Jiaoqiu’s arms. And depending on the book, sometimes you read out loud so Jiaoqiu can also follow the story. Allowing the two of you to giggle and conspire about the story together.

Honestly, you two are deep thinkers. Whether you’re overanalysing a book or a person, one of you always has something to say. This definitely brought you two closer before you started dating. Getting to hear the complicated thoughts running through your mind left an impression on Jiaoqiu. It sparked an interest in him and left him with the will to get to know you better.

He pursued you, for sure. And at the beginning, I believe you aren’t interested. For a long time, you only wanted to be his friend. That mask that Jiaoqiu puts up as a front isn’t easy to break though, after all, and you figured that out pretty quickly.

Although, hear me out. He once ran into you sobbing in a corner, an absolute mess. But this man, instead of ignoring you, decided to comfort you until you were able to calm down. Of course you’d never admit that his presence helped you, so instead of opting to thank him, you run :D

Ok, now here’s a hot take. You’re not a fan of words of affirmation (for your own valid reasons, of course), but I can definitely see Jiaoqiu trying to sprinkle it in here and there, though. He’d never say anything over the top. Hell, half of them don’t even sound like compliments the way he words them.

If you pick up on this and genuinely ask him to stop, he will, end of story. But he loves hearing your reaction.

You say you’re always singing. Yeah, he loves that. Considering his eyesight is minimal, he loves anything that reminds him of your presence. Whether it’s your scent, or in this case, your voice. He couldn’t care less whether you’re a good singer or not. The fact that he can hear you and know you’re close by is enough for him.

Sometimes if the two of you are at home together and he recognises the song you’re absentmindingly singing, he’ll play it, letting you give a full performance.

This man will cook you five fucking meals a day if you let him. Very insistent on cooking for you. Maybe it’s simply because he likes hearing you enjoy his food; maybe it’s because he thinks it’s one of the only ways he can be useful to you, but that doesn’t matter. As long as he can hear joy in your voice, he’ll do whatever it takes.

Oh, and he’ll cook anything your craving. When I say anything, I mean anything. Doesn’t matter how complicated or how weird it is; he’ll do it.

Also a professional nurse (literally). Expect the highest of princess treatment when you’re ill. He literally treats you like a kitten. Will keep you tucked in bed with medicine and tea constantly by your side as he does whatever you need him to do.

He’ll never admit it, but he skips work to tend to you. He thinks you sound adorable, to be honest.

Also forehead kisses.

Don’t ask me where this came from. It genuinely just spawned in. But I’m adamant that he gives the best forehead kisses. In general, he’s a very gentle yet passionate kisser.

He wishes to savour the contact his lips have with your body. To map every inch of your skin to make up for what he can’t see with his eyes.

You say you enjoy writing, and I can totally see Jiaoqiu being into that. Especially if you’re looking to write something more action-packed. Of course, there are certain aspects of his past that he doesn’t wish to look back on, but if he can assist you with his knowledge and experience in any way, he will.

He probably figured out pretty quickly that poetry is your most intimate form of writing. He’ll never push for you to share with him. He’s not going to intrude on your most personal thoughts. But if you ever choose to open up to him and show him, god, he’ll melt. He’ll listen intently, even if he doesn’t quite grasp the concept. It’s more the fact that you’re willing to show your most vulnerable sides to him that really hits him in the feels.

Of course, he’ll share too. He doesn’t really have some special form of expressing himself, but he’s open to answering anything you wish to know. It’s only fair seeing as you opened up to him first.

All in all, Jiaoqiu’s a pretty mature lover with enough youth in him to still enjoy the small, mundane joys of life with you. (I’m so not jealous)

Giving Rystal and Gibeon other Pokemon

a.k.a Something that no one wanted or needed, but something I want to do anyway.

ok but seriously it's honestly really weird to me how Lucius have the entire team of six pokemon, while his companions only get one. And I know that Terapagos and Zygarde are legendaries but Liko for example has Pagogo AND Floragato & Hattrem. So I honestly don't see a problem with rystal and gibeon having other pokemon beside their aces. Also in this post I will only give them 2 new mons but maybe in the future I will give them more. Now that that's out of the way, let's get into mon-giving, shall we?

Gibeon:

1: Hisuian Zoroark

Reasons:

Both have (partially) white hair

Both have evil in their hearts

Both are strong allies and a force not to be messed with.

Headcanons:

As a researcher Gibeon is really intrested in Zoroark and why it looks nothing like its Unovan counterpart, hence why he caught it.

Loner/basically forced to hang out with 6 heroes and the rest of Pokemon

(almost) never gets involved in dramas.

Even though he never shows it, Zoroark really cares about his trainer and his friends.

2: Glaceon

Reasons:

Similar sounding names (Gibeon-Glaceon)

Blue works well with purple/white

glaceon being ice type represents Gibeon's cold demeanor

Headcanons:

Found by Gibeon as an abandoned Eevee

At Lucius' urging, the OG trio of explorers took her under their care. They took turns looking after her, but eventually (to Lucius and Rystal's surprise) Eevee formed the strongest bond with Gibeon who in the end caught her. And then few months later Eevee evolved into Glaceon.

Unlike Zoroark, Glaceon actively shows Gibeon affection which makes him confused since he doesn't know how to react to that.

Whenever she wants something, she makes puppy eyes

And now for Rystal:

1: Shiny Rowlet

Reasons:

"Why not Ho-oh?" Well, that's because I wanted to be at least a bit original.

"Why shiny?" because it fits Rystal color scheme

Come on its Rowlet! THERE'S LITERALLY NO POKEMON FAN THAT HATES ROWLET! And if there is one, show me.

Headcanons:

has short temper

When he first met Rystal, he stole her hat because he thought it would be the perfect nest.

In general, at the beginning he argued a lot with her especially about the hat.

Sometimes rowlet was so stubborn that Rystal had to walk like this:

Over time, however, Rystal and Rowlet began to get along.

He probably never evolved/evolved but only into Dartrix and never into Decidueye. (Idk you can choose your version)

Reasons:

Okay, so, new shows I've picked this fall are English Teacher (which entirely has to do with it being a Brian Jordan Alvarez joint and The Gay and Wondrous Life of Caleb Gallo remains one of the best things ever. I love it so far and Markie steals every scene he's in) and High Potential (which I am literally only watching for Kaitlin Olson, though Judy Reyes was a lovely surprise! It's a not-so-great premise and it is another cop show [blech] but Kaitlin Olson is freaking wonderful in it and it is a popcorn show so..... either it'll really click and it'll be on forever or it won't and it'll die in its first season. We shall see. Every time I try to make a prediction on which procedural show will last, I am always wrong lol).

Other ones I'm planning to check out are How to Die Alone (I have never seen Natasha Rothwell in something - Insecure or Love, Simon - and not thought: more, MORE so I really need to get to this one. Especially since she's not just the star but also the creator), Murder in a Small Town (I completely get why true crime podcasts/shows would be so bingeable but I also can't help but feel gross indulging in them so fictional ones should be perfect for me. Like, I really like books that have true crime podcasts in them so this show will hopefully scratch that itch, right? Not to say that this has a true crime podcast in it but that should be the vibe, yeah? And I'm willing to get further away from it because Bodkin was honestly such a disappointment for me), Penelope (Mark Duplass is pretty much the whole draw here, I like the stuff he does but the description is so bleh so I keep forgetting about it) and Grotesquerie (honestly this is because I always try to get in on a Ryan Murphy show on the ground floor because almost every time I find them, there are 80,000 episodes and everyone is telling you it's shit anyway, lol. I also have no problem dropping his shows if they're terrible - I don't even think I made it out of the first season of Glee and I know I only got as far as I did because of Jane Lynch. Plus, Niecey Nash! I follow my Reno 911! people around, I can't help myself). I am completely on the fence about A Very Royal Scandal (as mentioned, I don't like rooting around through real people's trauma and the only draw to this is Michael Sheen). Oh and maybe Twilight of the Gods (I want someone else to watch this and tell me if it's at all worthwhile or if it's too bro-y for words because sometimes.... *coughs*).

Ones that aren't out yet but that I'm definitely gonna poke at: Teacup (a James Wan horror show? Yes, please!), Disclaimer (this sounds bonkers and Cate Blanchett and Kevin Kline? Okay fine, I'm in.), St. Denis Medical (some of my favorite comic actors and I like Abbott Elementary, okay, so if people keep wanting to apply that formula elsewhere? I'm for it!), Interior Chinatown (sounds like it could be cool as hell), The Franchise (if we have to keep doing superheores, at least we're switching up the premise for them), Sweetpea (there's just nothing about this that doesn't appeal to me, lol), maybe The Pradeeps of Pittsburgh (I liked Fresh Off the Boat a lot, the problem is all the descriptions make it sound like it's just that show but with an Indian family now and I don't know if I liked it enough to watch it again, y'know?), A Man on the Inside (Mike Schur, Ted Danson, Stephanie Beatriz? You couldn't keep me away from this if you tried), and The Madness (it's all for Colman Domingo, act surprised). Maybe Poppa's House (I love Damon Wayans, Jr., but I have a massive hate hard-on for CBS shows, they feel so soulless to me and everything contributes to that. Also, when I saw that Q got hit in the head in the teaser for this EP, I was praying for them to not go the 'I hit my head. I don't remember you now' route. I hate that trope with my whole life.

That's not true at all. Sometimes others loving you could give you all the reasons to love yourself. Someone loving you shows that you are worthy of love both from yourself and from others. It shows you that you are worthy of someone’s time, sacrifice and a lot of other things. I believe that's a path to self love.

I think one of my biggest problems with Dick fans is that some of them (most of them probably unintentionally!!!) make it sound like Bruce cares about him only and wouldn’t care if his other children like blew up or something lol. I also don’t like how they make it seem like every superhero and vigilante and anti hero and villain and citizen and every ant in the whole wide world would have Dick as their no. 1 guy and consider him their favoritist guy ever. I live for chaos and drama so the malakai-amerie-rowan triangle was soooooo fun (altho I wish there hadn't been the extra drama with the rowan being "bird psycho". just stick to the love triangle messiness. also do not get me started on rowan threatening malakai WHAT WAS THAT why did the writers do that 😑 anyway I want rowan back in s3 and making amends w the ppl who were collateral damage in his revenge quest against amerie)

also re the love triangle mess, it seems like the writers are intending for amerie/malakai endgame and I do like them but I feel like the show did gloss over amerie's repeated boundary violations (which honestly was also a problem with her dynamic w harper in s1 too, like girl you have to let people come to you instead of badgering them into talking to you and trying to force them to confess things). like everyone repeatedly told her to give malakai space as he was processing that he was bi and she just kept hovering and trying to force him to open up. like.... girlie please he just needed some time to figure out his feelings.

sometimes the show wants to treat the women as #girlbosses when they actually do things that are really fucked. like I don't hate harper, but the speech she gave to embarrass dusty at the basketball game was really gross and the narrative treats it as epic and her standing up for herself when she and dusty took advantage of malakai not being sober and the fact that he was in a bad headspace after just being attacked by that cop. also the writers act like dusty deserved this just bc harper thought he was acting weird after the threesome like...... is he not allowed some time to process his feelings about a new experience??? like..... how did the narrative treat this as a #girlpower moment what the hell

the demonization of mental illness is pretty uncomfortable. we only really see the symptoms of harper's dad (and presumably rowan) when they are actively being a danger to people. like mental health issues that cause ppl to see delusions doesn't equal that person being violent but the show kind of ties their anger/violence to their mental illnesses... which is another reason as to why I hope rowan sticks around for s3. let's see more of him being soft while still acknowledging these symptoms.

Logbook: Hidden Agenda (2023)

(Sorry if the grammer and/or spelling is fucked, it's not my strong suit. Also this is just a log for me to remember the media I have consumed and what I thought about it, if you don't want to see that block this tag> #ro's media logbook)

I finally finished Hidden Agenda! (I could have been done with it like a month ago but nooooo, I just had to take a ONE MONTH break between episode 11 and 12!! WHY?!?!) Anyway, I enjoyed it! I was a bit sceptical coming in because of the mixed reviews I saw on MyDramaList, but after this I think I've just learned not to trust reviews on there very much. Got to make my own judgement I guess.

Hidden Agenda was very sweet and I really liked Zo and Joke. Though I wish they would have given more time for Joke's family issues, I think it would have been nice to see Zo support Joke the same way Joke had supported him. Which he did! But only once. In the last episode. Cause that's all the space the show gave to Joke's problems. And because they chose to focus mostly on Zo's problems Zo came off as kinda selfish, which isn't a great look in these kind of sweet romances. Though it didn't bother me much, I have a tendencie to get frustrated with writers or production instead of the character in these cases. If it doesn't feel like a character trait was supposed to be there I have a hard time getting mad at the character for it.

I also liked the side characters. I'm glad Nita was just a good friend who got to have her own little success story with winning the scholarship to Finland. Though the stalker storyline was kinda wild but also sometime these type of dramas just want to intruduce crazy plot points for like an ep or two so it is what it is, I guess. Honestly brought some much needed tension and a character I was free to hate, so that's nice.

Jeng and Pok were really sweet and I honestly think their story could have been made into it's own little series. I've seen shows work with less.

My main 4 takeaways from Hidden Agenda:

It gave me the strangest representation I've ever gotten but I am thankful nonetheless. I have never seen a picky eater in a show have one dish they eat the same way every day, and their friends defend their eating habits. As someone who has that type of eating habit/problem it made me very happy to not see Zo get ganged up and berated for it.

If I had a nickle for everytime this man:

played the dad to a character named Joke in a bl, and he and his son have a strained relationship becuase of the dad's behaviour alone, I would have 2 nickles. Which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice. (No I don't care that Joke in Jack&Joker is a criminal, his dad was a fucking asshole)(it's deadass the same story again, Hidden Agenda just made it a speed run)

I am now a certfied pick up kisses enjoyer. The signs were obviously already there but this show really solidified it. Love a pick up kiss, any show that has them from this point forward get bonus points in my book.

I don't get the complaints about Dunk's acting. Just full stop. Yeah obviously you can nitpick but I haven't seen anything major in Hidden Agenda or The Heart Killers. So I'm just gonna chalk it up to personal taste and media diets. He doesn't even come close to the bad acting that I've seen tbh. I also have no intrest in arguing about this, if you don't like his acting, cool. No skin off my back.

I might just be a JoongDunk girlie at this point. They have great chemistry and I've enjoyed 2 shows so far. And I was gonna watch Dare You to Death anyway because I love a murder mysterie ql, one of my favorite genres. I will probably watch Star in My Mind at some point. (I don't love caring about branded pairs but sometimes I just end up here anyway, is what it is)

Next show (that is not currently airing) I'll be watching next is probably going to be either: Only Friends, Love Sea or Pluto. We'll see.

With Percy Jackson and The Olympians Priemering Today here are some changes that would have made more sense with Greek Mythos than what Rick did (I love him but holy hell is none of it Accurate):

The big 3 would not have stopped having kids cause WWII (and I pray they change it in the show. it gives me the ick). Personally either, use Nazi's to have used Demigods as weapons against their will and have the gods agree no more kids to protect them, or WWI (it's a less fucked up idea, but aligning with countries over trade and political tensions is better than Nazi's). Also cold war could work but only to an extent. I know the prophecy was also a reason but good god let's get rid of the nazi's, please!

Athena is the virgin goddess. It's one of her epithets, Parthenos, the virgin Athena (what the Parthenon is named after). No kids, she has no time for romance. Now Artemis and Hestia? They're both virgin goddesses, with it being sacred, but Hestia being a goddess of the Family and hearth, and having kids would make sense (also fire Annabeth and Water Percy), whilst it's not clear if Artemis is 100% no romance (The Orion myth where their in love is only one retelling and it's the one I hate the most), but whether through her maidens, or as her role as a goddess of childbirth, or she's just a lesbian and sometimes they want kids, it's more likely than Athena. Honestly, the demigods of Artemis being the children Artemis helped birth from victims of assault would be a cool concept, the kids could be left at camp halfblood at an early age, and when the hunters visit, they could see their mums and aunts, whilst the mums could heal and know their kid is safe. Anyways, I'm 100% Athena is no romance, no sex, but loves friendships. She and Telemachus are besties, so she def has mortal friends. She and Paul would be good friends. New AU, Athena sets Paul up with Sally, cause she was already friends with Paul and is like "they'd be happy". Aphrodite is jealous that she didn't get it first.

Dinoysis should not be camp director, banished or not. What would make more sense: Ares camp director. The Greeks (Sparta and their colonies are the exception, not the rule) kinda hated Ares but in most of the myths he's in he's at best actually helping win wars, or at worst, the problem child (and the whole jar incident where he got trapped and Artemis and Hermes rescued him. Ares was hated because he represented the brutality of war, along with the revenge and cost with the eventual victory, whilst Athena was the tactics, strategy and cunning that brings victory. Regardless, in Mythos, Ares is a pretty chill guy (just not on the Battlefield.) Ares loves training, battle, and his kids. He is a girl dad (the Amazons are his kids, and he adores them), and would probably love any kid who showed an interest in fighting and battle, no matter the weapon. And it's in line with his character. He does something, gets kicked off Olympus for a bit, and gets thrusted to camp halfblood, and all the gods are like "Yeah lol, he hates kids, he's gonna hate it", but then he's there and he's like "I'm gonna teach you how to spear 3 horses in a row!" His kids love having him there, and he just kinda adopts the kids who's parent hasn't claimed them. He also will escort demigods home and threaten neglectful/shit parents. He will adopt kids who's mortal parent has abandoned them/died. Ares is camp father, and he's a damn good one. Though maybe he does get a little riled up by captue the flag.

I know the Amazons are in Heroes of Olympus, ha ha Amazon joke, but Amazon is an evil company and I hate it. The Amazon's also live in camp halfblood as trainers, friends, family, and loyal daughters of Ares. Most daughters of Ares get integrated into the Amazon's and they go on yearly retreats to Circe's island.

In later mythos Apollo became a god of the sun, and Artemis the moon, but Selene and Helios are still important players with interesting myths, and I know the whole "mortals forget" thing but Renaissance art did not. Have a plot about Endymion, Selene's forever-asleep boyfriend, Circe is a daughter of Helios, he could have other, powerful witches in their own right. Medea being a grandaughter of Helios is critical to her power and downfall. In mythos she never dies, merely disappears. Why is she evil? She is misunderstood and fuck Jason.

My hatred of Zeus runs deep and is too complicated to get into, but he is the true antagonist of Greek mythology, and I hate him. Everyone should hate Zeus.

Persephone and Hades relationship is too strained, and they never cheat on each other (Thesus and Pirithous. Once again, Rick is too kind to absolute dicks of mythology). The only time they have was Adonis and that one is weird and possibly mistranslated, but yeah, only times they cheat is when Zeus...assaulted his daughter *gags*, though in other translations the results of those unions are Hades. Hades though? Has never cheated on her. If one fell in love with a mortal, the more likely (and in my opinion sweeter outcome) is polyamory. Or have Hades and Persephone be the patron gods of any and all children of underworld gods (Thanatos, Melione ect)

On the Persephone thing, Persephone being a nature goddess is...loose? Demeter brings spring when reunited with her daughter, making Persephone's role not really nature goddessey. More interestingly greeks use the title Dread Persephone, and her role in stories aligns her as an underworld goddess. If you want an interesting deep dive into this watch OSP: Hades and Persephone on YouTube, its super interesting and goes into it better. Also fuck lore Olympus while I'm here.

Aphrodite and Hephestus being together is not always present in written works of Greek mythos. In Homer's Illiad Aphrodite is unmarried and a consort of Ares, whilst Hephestaus has his own wife, Charis. Then Homer contradicts himself (tbf, might not be a real guy) and states Aphrodite and Hephaestus are married and Ares is Aphrodite's homewrecker. So not even one (supposed) guy can keep it straight. It varies from myth to myth. Hell, at the end of some retellings of Aphrodite and Ares in chains in Hephestaus's bed, they straight up divorce. This is less nitpicky of Rick because Greek mythos has no cannon and everything is a constant mess, but with all the... less than stellar relationships within the pantheon and wider worship, it's ok to have a pairing that while is thought of, have a canonical divorce.

Also, Cupid would out Nico, Eros would not, and Psyche would punch him.

Why is Medusa solely based off of Ovid's terrible interpretation?IDK I'm not particularly fond of Ovid's retellings of myth, because of his...baggage issues. I know it's the more popularised one, but Ovid's entire story of Perseus is...so fucked up. This is also my anger toward wider mythos fans who argue whether Athena did a cool feminist thing or punished Medusa for being assaulted. In the older retellings, she was just a monster and it's so less fucked up.

Where is Ariadne? If we ignore my Ares rant, why is she not with her husband? or at least frequently visiting him? And why is she not called up in Balle of the Labyrinth? She is the patron goddess of it. Give her a cookie Percy, It'll help.

I have more but they relate to specific parts of the plot of a book, but if people are interested I can and will complain more. Sea of Monsters is the main one that comes to mind, but I'm rereading the series atm, so I can make ongoing lists. Also, I do love Percy Jackson, but I cannot think of it as having any relationship to actual Greek mythos or history or I'll scream. If you want to write an AU with any of these ideas please let me know, I love Greek mythos and I love interpretations of stories told for thousands of years.

Hi, just wanted comment on your last last twilight post. Hope it’s ok.

I totally agree with a lot of things you been saying about the last episode and am mostly on the same page, I just think you are a bit to harsh on Day. And I wanna say that my opinion totally depends on what happens next episode.

But I think it’s only human to overreact sometimes when one is hurt. Mhok never mentioned his worries and his troubles to Day, so it makes sense for him not to know about it. And while I also think the break up is a bit to much of an overreaction and I’m also pretty unhappy how the scene played out in general, I can understand Day being unreasonable in the moment and not being able to see past his own feelings and insecurities. It makes him look like an ass, but when one already feels hurt and angry it’s pretty hard to be rational and take the other parties feelings into account. The thing is that once Day has calmed down he has to realise that he fucked up and go and apologise.

And that why it really depends on how the next episode plays out. I think from a writing standpoint it would totally make sense for Day to go talk thinks out with Mhok, just like he did with August and his father.

It would be a total disservice to his character if that didn’t happen, bc he did it twice before and it showed his growth as a character that he confronted the dad without Mhok having to push him to do it.

I really hate how Mhok gets punished for being traumatised and I hope Day genuinely apologises for his overreaction and they talk about it. If they decide to take a break after that or have a long distance relationship, it would be fine by me either way. Day should get a chance to support Mhok as well and Mhok shouldn’t need to get over his shit alone.

I’m kinda just writing this bc I see so many people hating on Day for not supporting Mhok, when the show never gave him a chance to do it, bc how could he have known. It’s more a writing problem than it is a problem with Day in my opinion. But yeah the scene was so bad it made my skin crawl.

And, maybe you're right, maybe the finale will open with Day going to talk to Mhok the day after because he came to his sense and realized what Mhok was saying and that this can't be the end and the entire preview was just Aof mocking us like he did in Bad Buddy.

But I just can't trust that.

Look, is there a chance that they will start the episode with Day going to talk to Mhok and all the moments we saw in the preview will be something else entirely and feel different and I'll be thrilled.

But just... what a way to throw so much out at the end of the penultimate episode and in a way that left such a bitter taste in my mouth.

If they had shown Day supporting Mhok at any other point in the show... I would feel better about this. I would feel better about it. But there wasn't. There was nothing. Just Mhok being everything for Day and then Day instantly turning on him and kicking him out?

Actually, one of the bigger problems was how they also handled Day's mom because fuck that noise. How did she go from cutting her son off from the world to suddenly being the one who could ~see his independence~. Fuuuck that noise. That makes me trust it a lot less, honestly. Because they handled that so badly.

I'm just... I want to trust Aof and believe that this will turn into something I can at least accept.

dude about your female redesign post it reminded me of something that has been similarly bugging me recently.

when people compliment character designers by saying because they draw more diverse body types "you know they love women"

like its this weird intersection of purity culture and gender essentialism feminism? like they redesign women to be less sexualized because that's the way women /should/ be in their eyes. and they think they're being progressive but they're just like reinforcing purity culture. but then if you say that they'll defend it by saying that the original is sexualizing women. like women being sexy is inherently bad how dare they.

like how lesbians will think "im no better than a man" like its a bad thing to think a woman is sexy.

i saw a clip about like a pair of ridiculously bouncy anime boobs and ppl making fun of it as they do. but i thought to myself "the person who drew this really loves women" because like that's what it means to lovingly animate that much boob jiggle.

like if we can assume based off character design alone that someone loves women then wouldn't it be right to assume that the people who draw female characters sexy love them and want to see them being adored and seen as sexy and cute? dont they really love women?

Yeah, people see the problem of (real life) women being sexualized against their will, and then think the problem is the sexualization, instead that it's that people are ignoring the woman's boundaries/wants.

As a response they then come to the conclusion that women shouldn't be sexualized, and the only way to respect women is to not sexualize them at all.

That then leads to them thinking all sexual desire towards women is bad, and that showing any sexual desire towards them means you're inherently objectifying them. Of course while ignoring that some women consent to be sexualized. You know, think porn actresses, women who willingly make thirst traps, or other similar things, which can quickly lead to someone spewing anti-sexwork rhetoric or similar bullshit.

Anyway, sometimes these types of people then also start to conflate fantasy/fiction with reality, and start to think that showing any desire towards fictional women (especially if they're sexualized for a male audience) is inherently bad. When in all reality, what you fantasize about sexually has nothing to do with what you really think/feel/are. And honestly? Saying otherwise is harmful (which is another conversation entirely.)

So in a pursuit of respecting women, these people end up forcing them back into a puritan and restrictive mold that women have been trying to escape for generations now. But they can't do that towards real people, so they target the fictional characters who, due to being literal objects, cannot do shit about their behavior. And how do they do this? By "unsexualizing" the "sexualized" female characters and hating on anything that "sexualized" fictional women.

They also go on to praise anyone who redesigns women in a "non-sexualizing" way, which often is often characteristics that are often considered ugly by conventional beauty standards.

But because they're taking these "sexualized" character designs that they think are bad because they're sexy, they by proxy say that whatever they redesign the character into is not sexy/desirable.

I remember this being a problem with certain Twitter artists a while back who'd redesign female characters as fat, dark-skinned, with body hair, and/or covered up fully in an attempt to "un-sexualize" them. And, you know, was sending the message that women who are fat, dark-skinned, or have body hair are ugly/undesirable as a result.

So yeah, that means that not only are they forcing women back into a puritanistic box, not only are they taking away women's choice of if they want to be sexy or not, but some are also calling some characteristics ugly when they try to redesign "sexualized" female characters.

Also, yeah, your last point is also right. If you can tell if someone loves women by how they draw them (which you can't, but that's besides the point,) then finding women sexy and drawing them as sexy would mean that you love them. But no, according to some of these people, finding women desirable is bad, and you need to be sent to horny jail for execution for being attracted to them.

Did people forget how badly it went when ozai was firelord and how badly would've been if azula became the new firelord? Someone who ruled over their entire nation must be sound of mind which azula and ozai were far from. How well do they think that'd go for zuko if he was constantly around his abusive amd hateful sister? He doesn't have time to be visiting her or talk to her 24/7 when he has more on his plate and an entire nation to protect than a bunch of destructive and violent imperialists anyways who caused a forced occupation not too long ago. It's better for Zuko as a person and firelord to take care of his own mental health, that's what his friends would want anyways.

And on another note, I hate the idea of azula being a pacifist. You can't praise azula for being ruthless and being a villain and then say she's better than aang and the real pacifist. Azula represents the destructive side of fire and what happens to someone who's clung onto propaganda their whole life and then decided they deserved their own victims because they were abused. She's not supposed to be a good person. There's a reason why some people find her pretty disturbing amd all too relatable for a villain from a show aimed at kids.

Maybe she didnt kill everyone who may have died in that occpuation but she gleefully accompanied Ozai and ir doesn't matter that the only person she was shown killing on screen was aang - because he's a child and also the world's literal last hope. She has the blood and dignity of the earth kingdom on her hands

You're completely right. Actually, this reminds me of that one person who was ranting about how awful it was for Zuko to put Azula in an institution, and that he should have given her a position in his court as an advisor or something if he really cared about her. Like, really? The girl whose grand plan for ruling was to burn the Earth Kingdom to the ground? The imperialist who wanted to continue the war and take over the world? The girl who wants the throne and her brother dead? She should be given a position of power? Really? Some people honestly have such rose-tinted glasses when it comes to looking at Azula that I feel like they have no idea what they're saying sometimes.

And Azula is not a pacifist. She's the opposite of a pacifist. She has no problems about using violence to get her way. She's the only person in the show to kill someone on-screen, and she enjoyed it when Zuko got burnt. She's violent. She's the farthest thing from a pacifist, and it's almost insulting that people want to claim such ridiculous things so that they can put her on some moral high ground. But yeah, you're completely right.
