okay some people genuinely really need to accept that the ONLY "queer coding" in saiki k is when they make gay jokes. there is NO other intentional queer coding, and i think people dont understand that claiming rep where it isnt there is much much more harmful than you think it is... just headcanon! its fun! you guys act like youre going to fucking die if you ship/hc something not canon, so you convince everyone that everything you say is canon ☠️ its literally insane

theres a HUGE difference between a headcanon or ship having what YOU see as canon backing, and a hc or ship that is actually implied or canon...

the only ship that you could argue is implied in saiki k is terusai, thats literally it, you could potentially make an argument that yumekai could be reciprocated towards the end, satoumiya, or MAYBE mikosai, but im pretty sure thats it...

nonbinary saiki is one of my personal favorite headcanons (one of the only ones i pretty much ALWAYS have in mind when talking or writing about him, it's practically a given) and i think it has pretty good canon backing, but its not ACTUALLY implied.

hes FAIRLY certain that his biological sex is male, and all evidence points to that, but he doesnt know and specifically says that he doesnt know what his true gender is... he clearly has absolutely zero discomfort with masculinity OR femininity, doesnt know or care about his gender, and is comfortable with either sex... he seems very happy to just be either...

seems like pretty solid evidence, but you also have to realize that there is literally zero chance that the author intended for saiki to be read as nonbinary, or trans in any way, this was literally just an excuse for plot and to have a reason to take advantage of his shapeshifting to do crossdressing/genderbend chapters ☠️ i love to see it as him being nonbinary and i think it has a lot of backing, but its not canon or even "implied" at all.

theres a lot of other examples of this kind of thing in this fandom, like theres a lot of people who claim that kubokai are queer coded (its usually just a joke when people say things like "hehe my ship is so canon" but im talking about like... people who see yumekai and go "um 🤨 this is LITERALLY homophobic because erm um kubokai are basically canon and queer coded and you shipping one of them with a WOMAN is HOMOPHOBIC" lmfao) and i am actually just not even sure where this comes from because they dont have anything that can even be twisted into romantic subtext, theyre just a popular ship because they have a good friendship. which is great! but theyre like the LAST thing i wouldve expected people to claim as implied or canon. they are absolutely not. the only thing i can even think of that might make people think that is saiki saying they look gay in that one chapter ☠️

When We’re Older by @writing-intheundercroft 🫶🫶🫶 this is the first fic I’ve had the pleasure of reading in this fandom and IT IS SO SO SO INCREDIBLE !!! The way she’s written Sebastian is just spot-on and I’m afraid that Theo has stolen my heart♥️ I’m the slowest reader when I leave comments, so I haven’t quite finished yet but I’m savoring every last chapter that’s left to me🫶

The Call of the Void by @sloanesallow ANOTHER delightful fic !!! I find myself smiling SO much at their banter & how she’s characterized Sebastián. And SIOBHAN. SLOANE. AAÑDLCKJDJFKSKD I LOVE HER!!!!! The writing is just SO good & I love how all of the scenes in-between game events are fleshed out and imagined🫶

ALL OF @jackalope-patronus oneshots and writing🫠🫠🫠 delicious amazing writing and she just GETS IT !!!! Untouchable by PhantomFish on AO3. I LOVE Tomione (I just love moral greyness and manipulation🤭) & this was like a hidden gem I just happened to stumble upon. I LOVE her characterizations of everyone and the whole premise and writing is SO GOOD🫠 I also love horror & this fic does NOT shy away from the visceral, which I love !!! It gives me confidence that my own fic with Eloise bc I also don’t shy away from the horror in it or sanitize what happens. This fic really makes my brain buzz with trying to figure out where it’s going and I love thst♥️

BOOKS:

I only read The Last Picture Show by Larry McMurtry this month. He is my favorite author for a reason!!!!! I genuinely don’t think I could recommend this book to anyone I don’t actually talk with regularly (😆) BUT I am completely blown away by him and his writing. Within a few paragraphs he manages to perfectly convey a person and how they are, and all of the characters of this book are moving into my mind for a while. Alkgjdjsjfjsjdhfjdjshs I have gone on so many rants about his writing and how amazing he is, Lonesome Dove is my favorite novel for a reason, and I’m sure when I finish the last few chapters of The Last Picture Show, it will be up there among my favorite books too, I think♥️

what moments stood out to you vocally? also what was lauren, mariah and bryce’s song like? thanks :))

Bryce was the overall vocal standout for me in the show, which is fitting since she’s the titular character. There are two songs she sings in particular, one in Act I and one in Act II, that she absolutely slays. I’d say they’re her “The Wizard and I” and “Defying Gravity” moments, in terms of plot significance and their overall place in the show. My favorite song she sings in a solo in Act II that serves as her final character standout moment and ties together a couple of earlier musical themes of hers in the show. That girl can BELT! We love her

There is one song Bryce, Mariah, and Lauren sing together as Ella, Justine, and Lucy which is very adorable. It’s about them essentially reminiscing on their childhood and using their reunion to the fullest advantage by spending all of their time together (their friendship is SO SWEET 🥹 Ella is their third sister). The other moments Lauren and Mariah sing are with Angela as their Troll characters. The first two are fun and kind of dark but silly, and the last one in Act II is mostly Angela’s song with Lauren and Mariah backing her up vocally and singing an occasional comment as their character and is a VERY dark song (but still upbeat). They’re a trio of characters with Angela playing the stepmother AKA the leader of their group, and their songs fall into the general trio song tropes we see often in musicals (Heathers is the first that comes to mind - the characters are the antagonists and the lead is the main villain but the other two have their own moments where their characters shine through)

Some alternative verses for my non-Tales + non-Z.estiria followers since I know some people have a hard time trying to interact with Edna in her main, canon verses:

𝐏𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐂𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐀𝐔 𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄.  /  She's a girl who lives on Rayfalke with her older brother, E.izen. Rayfalke is an abandoned castle on the mountains that once used to be a kingdom centuries ago; it was already in ruins by the time the siblings claimed it as their home away from people who shunned them out due to the extremely bad luck E.izen always brought with him. The few people who ventured past Rayfalke during their travels mistook Edna and E.izen as the remaining royal descendants of those who once lived there, and the two played along if it meant continuing to live in peace, thus leading Edna to be known as the 'princess' of Rayfalke.

One day, however, E.izen left home without telling her, leaving only a letter detailing his plan to embark on a journey of his own because he couldn't risk his bad luck accidentally injuring her. Heartbroken by it, Edna decides to live by herself in the abandoned castle while clinging onto hope that her brother would one day change his mind and come home. Eventually, she finds out that E.izen's curse did affect her through physical contact with his letters, each one she receives slowly making her figure transparent until her entire body is semi-transparent. Some people eventually believed she is the ghost of a former Rayfalke princess, which she also plays along with so that she can continue living in isolation. The absence of her brother sometimes makes her wander around, though, possibly letting her meet new people along the way.

𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐄𝐒:

❀ E.izen's bad luck is a direct result of a curse being inflicted onto a villager named Theodora, a woman whom E.izen crossed paths with in passing on the way home some time ago. Because he was within the vicinity when she got cursed, it slowly affected E.izen, cursing him with bad luck. As time passes, the bad luck can range from trivial incidents to something possibly life-threatening, so that sparked his desire to leave home. He still sends letters and gifts to Edna, not knowing that she's already affected by his curse. ❀ She isn't really a 'ghost' in the true sense of the word for this AU because she's not 'dead.' She's just an ordinary human girl who is semi-transparent and cannot physically age anymore because of a side effect from a curse her brother passed onto her. Since her body can't age anymore, she doesn't need to eat or sleep, but her body still functions like a human would. This is a direct reference to her identity as a seraph from her canon verse. That being said, she can still touch and interact with anyone and anything. There is no known cure for her semi-transparency thus far, but she honestly doesn't mind it because it spooks people, another reference to how she enjoys scaring people in canon as well. Seraphim can't show up in mirrors in canon, but since Edna's only semi-transparent in this verse, I'll cheat the system a bit and say she can show up anyway ✌️ ❀ She sometimes writes letters to E.izen, but will never find the courage to send them. ❀ For a 'princess,' she prefers simple, cute dresses. She also has a soft spot for squirrels and cute animals. ❀ She isn't very good at cooking anything that's not simple, or stew. She wants to learn how to bake more than cook because she likes eating snacks. She also likes tea parties ... for the snacks. She is not gluttonous, though, and eats moderately. ❀ Edna is always carrying her umbrella as a weapon, and for sun protection. It also helps her look like a lady ���✨

𝐌𝐎𝐃𝐄𝐑𝐍 𝐕𝐄𝐑𝐒𝐄.  /  Edna lives with her older brother, E.izen, in a small apartment meant for just the two of them. Despite her young looks, she is a high school student in her senior year. When she isn't in school or at home, she can be found taking walks around the neighborhood, and she has a soft spot for any stray cats wandering around. She'll deny liking normins, but if one looks closer, she is always buying something with normins printed on it. It's totally not an obsession. She'll say you're wrong every time.

𝐎𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐑 𝐍𝐎𝐓𝐄𝐒:

❀ She is well-rounded in all the school subjects she takes, but her favorite ones are science and art. She isn't too big on studying in general, but she gets decent grades, has never failed any classes, and enjoys learning about nature. If not nature, then she also enjoys learning about geology and gemology, and any other science topic pertaining to the earth. The only subject she genuinely doesn't like and is not good with is P.E ( Physical Education ) due to her frail body. She is healthy with no illnesses, but she also gets injured easily because she's very slender. ❀ As a student, she's the type who doodles in her notes if the teacher is rambling, but her notes are straightforward and easy to understand, so she doesn't worry about a test/quiz. If she's really lazy, though, she'll sometimes copy notes from a friend or classmate. She is prideful, so if she does get a low mark for something, she will try to get a better score next time, half of it out of wanting to improve while the other half is out of plain spite LOL ❀ She likes trying on cute dresses and outfits if she's outside shopping, but she likes shopping for accessories a little more since she enjoys decorating. Speaking of decorating, her phone case is decked out with normin stickers, and her room at home is also decked out with various normin-related things. It's totally not an obsession... ❀ This is her school uniform and will be her main outfit for this verse unless you want her to wear something else for a plot idea. This AU takes place in modern Japan for muses who can't fit into her main canon verse. I'm not too sure where in Japan exactly, since I do not live there, but I think she and E.izen would probably live in a quiet, lowkey neighborhood to reference them living away from humans in their canon story. ❀ She's the type of person who spams you with emojis while texting just to annoy you 💛 ❀ She doesn't mind exploring new places as long as they aren't too crowded or noisy. She'll make an exception for amusement parks, though, because it's rare for her to be able to go to one. As for rides, she enjoys rollercoasters or just anything more fast-paced. That being said, she doesn't particularly like ferris wheels because she thinks they're sappy. ❀ I don't really see her as a hardcore gamer girl, but I think she'd really enjoy Neko A.tsume lol 🐈 I can also see her playing anything simple and cute that involves lots of decorating because she'd put in lots of hours for those games. I don't think she'd be a fan of games that are timed or are purposely designed to test the brain. ❀ She enjoys cartoons more than anime, but will still watch both, and she also enjoys occasional manga. She mainly likes reading anything funny and lighthearted.
