CC is one of my new favourite things ever but ill respect your dislike of it far more than i ever will going "I'm not saying you cant criticise the musical but" then express discomfort with people calling out the antisemitism

CC is my least favorite Starkid show ever but I'll respect your appreciation of it far more than I ever will people who go "there's nuance here" in a post that is fully just using polite language to shut down criticism. I genuinely don't know what's so hard about this.

Anyway it's been a Rough Time to be in the Starkid fandom and actually want to complain about things I disliked in a show I was incredibly excited for. Somehow having literally any issues with the show at all means I must be someone who is only here for Hatchetfield and is just trying to bully Starkid back into doing Hatchetfield stuff. Piss on the poor website.

#like I'm going to be so real I don't know why anyone likes the songs. The visual design and cast are both incredible but the lyrics...#But that is simply not my problem nor is it the point in engaging with The Discourse.#I'm both angry about how the discourse became Such An Aggressive Thing and how it feels like so many people just aren't talking about it.#that's the main thing I was trying to get out of posting--all of the tags were pure praise and I Really Didn't Like It so I was just.#writing on my personal blog. about the things I personally find problematic about it. and suddenly this means i hate joy and whimsy.#anyway it's a delight to see you in my notes because I recognize your username as a person who isn't going to treat me like I'm crazy #which outweighs the fact that I disagree with you about the show as a whole. Would much rather disagree kindly than Discourse Hell Forever.#Also I really hate the way people keep specifically saying things like. oh anyone saying this only joined the fandom during hatchetfield.#because first of all I may not have been in fandom spaces but I've watched Starkid since before tgwdlm came out #but even if I *did* join specifically for Hatchetfield? why does that matter? Are Hatchetfield fans not allowed to have opinions now?#I can not emphasize enough that I was genuinely excited for this show.#Bryce Charles as a lead is something I've wanted since the youtube release of Abstinence Camp.#Axe Man has some of the best vocals out of any nmt song. She stood out in npmd both as an actress and a singer.#And I hope she continues doing Starkid projects. I hope she gets to lead another show. Sure! Artfight is an online art-trading event that happens for the entire month of July, on artfight.net— every year, two “themes” are revealed, and participating artists will pick one of them to be on that “team.” You can upload reference pictures and explanations of your ocs to your profile page on artfight, and throughout the month, artists can draw other users’ characters and send them as “attacks,” ideally drawing characters from artists on the opposite team to earn points for their own team (though many artists (including myself) will just join/participate to draw their friends’ ocs and characters they think would be fun to draw, regardless of the teams)!

If you’re trying to figure out how to send an attack, you should be able to find the “Attacks” option on the drop down on the top right of the artfight home page (under the ‘Manage’ section, not ‘Messages’), and on that page you should be able to select “Submit New Attack!” from there, you’ll fill out anything you want to say about the attack, upload your images (as well as a 200x200 pixel thumbnail)l what “level” of drawing it is (how much you colored it, if you shaded it, if there’s a background, etc), and the website will calculate how many points you’ve earned for your team based on all of those categories and wether or not the artist you’re attacking is on your team or not!

Unfortunately, there’s only a few more days left in this year’s artfight, so you won’t be able to earn points for your team after August 3rd, but nothing can stop you from drawing others’ OCs for fun and posting them here after the event! Or you can always wait for next years fight if you want to take part in the team fight itself! But that being said you can join at any time even if it’s just for one week or one day or whatever!

things I wish I could relive for the first time again:

that magical window where you finish a new piece of media, having watched/read it all by yourself with no fandom contact whatsoever, and you are just so happy about it, and full of interesting theories and takeaways, and just in love with it as a gorgeous piece of art.

because I swear to god as soon as you join the fandom for anything, you're bombarded with how you're supposed to view characters and their arcs, how you're supposed to morally and ethically judge the plot and the ways it apparently failed to present the right message, and if you don't you'll either be shunned for not sharing the popular headcanons or you'll be harassed for not criticizing the source material enough.

like how is it that the fans of a piece of media are also the ones being the most negative about it? If I like a show or a movie or a book, well, I liked it. That's kind of the point. I'm actually not here to tear it apart and talk about how it didn't live up to standards other people had! I enjoyed it for what it was, and forcing myself to find negative things to say about it doesn't actually bring me more enjoyment of it or reap any benefit to me. Fandom's a double-edged sword; you want to join a community to share your love for a piece of art, and the price you pay for a modicum of joy is a mountain of negativity. that's one main reason that I never engage with fandom until I'm completely done with a show, because if I was plugged into all of that commentary and discourse during the process, I'd be completely colored by how I'm expected to interpret everything this piece of art is presenting to me without being able to even form my own opinions.

#this is currently about arcane but it's also every fandom i've been in since the dawn of time #there is so much political discourse about how the show handled the piltover zaun conflict and class struggle and i just #like i don't even know what to say besides. art doesn't have to provide the correct answer you know #it's not asking you to accept their explanation as the right one. it's just presenting a story. a scenario. a nuanced one at that #which of course the internet is the enemy of nuance as we know #especially in arcane i thought it was fairly clear that the end wasn't the bright shining future anyone hoped it'd be.#was anyone right in their actions? did anything turn out the way they wanted? or was it just as messy and gray as real life #we're living in such a myopic time for art where it's believed every story must take the correct stance or be invalid or even harmful #instead of just offering a perspective. a lived experience. a hypothetical. a story.#and when it gets to be headache inducing all I can do is take myself back to how I felt when I watched the show for the first time #and I came away from the whole thing being incredibly moved and captivated by the entire story and its nuance.#i had no qualms and no criticisms and i was very impressed with the depth of storytelling surrounding the political parts of the plot #as well as the character arcs. i guess people like to dunk on viktor's s2 arc nowadays and i just. shrug. i was blown away by it #for me at least i have nothing but pure love and admiration for art after i've viewed it. it's only after interacting with fandom #that the criticisms seep in and now i can't unsee it and even if i don't agree with it it still muddies my ability to enjoy the art #fandom is a curse in that sense. like i seek out art that i enjoy. i have no desire to make myself dislike that art. whats the point #why are the biggest haters of a piece of media the 'fans' of it idk.#me finishing a show: wow i love all the characters and the plot and the cinematography! I want to talk to others about how cool it is!#meanwhile the fandom hating characters to the point of death threats to their creators #after 13 years in fandom i can say this - if you don't need to join the fandom for smth then don't lmao.#you'll be able to retain your genuine enjoyment of the thing.#that whole 'if you didnt like what i made then make your own' philosophy people use on fanfic/fanart should be applied more #to actual published art too. you should be able to meet art where it's at and if you don't like what it's saying or how it looks then #just move on and find something else. another branch of the 'the greatest enemy of the left is the left' tree imo #a show has a lot of queer rep? bash it to the point of making the creators go into hiding for not doing it how you think it should be #no artist will ever be able to satisfy everyone's demands. they just want to put their experiences and ideas into the world #creators that try to do good get more vitriol than those who never try. they're scrutinized harder and judged more harshly #it's just. one of those 'real fucking tired of fandom' nights. the best cure is just going back and rewatching the source material #all on your own and falling back in love with it. just you and your genuine connection with the art.#anyway what happened to steven universe was unforgiveable and it really ruined fandom for me. like. yall don't deserve nice things

i don't think it's unusual for a person to be cruel in general and kind to a small set of people close to them. i don't usually think the second part is more important.

i agree!!! cruelty and caring very deeply abt a select few people arent traits that are mutually exclusive, and its smt we see in plenty of other ls members but i do not find mapicc to be a particularly cruel person like kab describes him to be.

all of her reasons for believing him to be cruel are ultimately bc her and mapicc dont know or understand each other. her misconception of him isnt her fault in this regard and im not saying it is, im just saying she is wrong abt him. im certain she will eventually come to realize this herself but her way of viewing things is very black and white imo. and she swaps between which she believes at a moments notice— which i know is like an intentional choice from cc kab into her character since she herself says ls kab is easily influenced. and its a trait i find obvious when she makes definite statements like "mapicc is just a cruel person" after he killed her one time bc she literally chose to fight alongside his enemy.

#lifesteal spoilers #asks #mapicc #kaboodle #like her main reason for thinking hes cruel is bc he will kill easily it seems #like him easily turning 'against' her by killing her when she helped clown against him and zam #but she already MADE THE CHOICE to help mapiccs enemy and to join the fight so obviously hes gonna kill her #it isnt exclusive to her; he will fight ANYONE whos fighting against HIM #like ya he has special people he gravitates towards and likes to be around in every season #most notably ro and zam since i watch their povs and they always seem to be fighting beside mapicc in some way eventually #but he will still kill and fight them if they are against him. his enemies are his enemies regardless of his like #pre existing relationship w them. and i dont think thats cruel bc cruel is like #killing low heart players while on 20 hearts for no other reason than for fun #its intentionally looking someone in the eye and convincing them ur on their side only to kill them again when theyre at their lowest #things mapicc is capable of doing but not things he seeks out or does for the sake of it #hes spiteful and can be vindictive but not overly cruel #esp if u compare him to other ls people who are actually cruel .
