drives me insane that we don't offer tax credits or deductions for using public transit to all employees in my city. only employers with 500+ employees can enroll in the pre-tax commuter passes program for our public transit and it's like. i too as an employee in the great city of redacted would like to save several hundred dollars a year on commuting expenses. it's not my fault my workplace has 3.5 employees
#was gearing up to ask if instead of random bonuses they could just sign up for the commuter benefit program#but no. they can't#but also the 500+ part is crazy like my mom works at a place that has amazing benefits but they've only got like 150 people#so even they can't make this benefit possible#rare pic of me in the wild

an: okay so this is my first time writing a series, so lmk if this au strikes your fancy. I am really inspired by movies like hustlers or magic mike for the vibes, but also kind of thinking of y/n as a harley quinn type, minus the crazy. think more the devotion and the obedience part. anyways im really excited for where this will go, because i think its going to be kind of long. Here is the prologue to start tho!!
minors dni!!! 18+ only plz!!!
prologue:
At 20 years old, you decided to move to Korea on your own. You tried college but it just didn’t seem like the place for you. Being a dance major at a state college was really hard and the politics never seemed to work in your favor. This decision didn’t come out of nowhere though, you had been a fan of kpop since you were 14 and had always admired the dancing and the hard work of the idols. But you knew that it wasn’t being an idol that you wanted, to be a backup dancer was the dream. And it felt within your reach, you had a lot of hip hop training under your belt and loved learning all of the dances.
But it wasn’t that easy. Maybe moving to Korea without a job lined up wasn’t your best move. And doing it alone, also not awesome. You understand now why your mom cut you off financially, because it really brought your life into a completely different trajectory. Who knows if it was because you were American or you weren’t skinny enough or weren’t actually good enough, but you never made it past the first round of eliminations at auditions. You had picked up the language though, so that’s one good part? But the failures and lack of a job brought you to a place of desperation, it brought you to an illegal strip club in Gangnam, catering mostly to the rich. A friend of a friend whose couch you were sleeping on recommended you audition for the place. Yet another audition didn’t seem like something you wanted to do, but the friend said the owner was nice, didn’t try to hit on his dancers, and would hire you if you had any dance experience and an ass. So you went for it.
And that's where you are now, 4 years later, on the pole. And it really isn’t that bad. You were able to get your own place with that friend, Lina, and although its shitty, its yours. You’ve made a name for yourself at the club, being the only American, and the only one with a fat ass a great rack. Tips are amazing, and the sex is even better. The amount of idols cocks that you’ve sat on is too many to count, not to mention the female idols that you’ve fucked. But no one has ever made you feel the way he does.
Song Mingi. Your most valued customer, and the one who you crave the most. He is also the only one who has yet to give it up to you. He never requests a private room, yet he always comes alone. But every Thursday night, there he is, at the table farthest to the left in the back. It’s like you can sense him when he walks in. Always in a full suit or business casual, as if he came from a meeting rather than a late night dance practice. All he does is lock eyes with you onstage and nod. He knows you will obey. The moment your stage set is over, you are strutting over to his table and giving him the slowest lap dance you can possibly give. He will never touch you unless you guide his hands to you, and then his hands stay on where your hips meet your thighs the rest of the time. When you are done, he tucks $500 into the front of your thigh high stocking or garter. But its the goodbye that makes you crave his touch and acceptance and dominance. Before you get up off his lap, he softly grabs the back of your head and tilts it back. You already know to open your mouth and stick your tongue out. Taking the last sip of his drink, an old fashioned, he tips it into your mouth and tells you to “Drink up, my good girl.” And every time you do. He always swipes his thumb across your bottom lip when you’re done, and then sucks the little bit that was left there into his own mouth. And then, he leaves.
Every Thursday without fail since he first came in about 6 months ago. And every Thursday you leave a wet spot on his lap even though he barely touches you. And every Thursday you anticipate his arrival, putting on your best little panties or your prettiest bra, doing your hair into a little bow in the back, knowing that he probably loves that.
But this Thursday was different. Because this Thursday, he didn’t come.

So my mother stopped by and kidnapped me to 'return' a few things which turned into a multi-hour, multi-store trawl where yes, she did return a couple of items and then bought MORE shit. I mean, the walmart trip was fine, she needed dog food and then she needed new sheets for the new bed she hasn't even bought yet. And then we found out Tuesday Morning is closing down which is kinda lowkey sad because that was a part of my childhood. My grandma loved that place, so does my mom, so we went there and got more shit and then it was off to Kohls. Theoretically to pay off her Kohls card but more shopping happened. She and her husband got their tax returns. How the fuck do they get like 5K between the two of them on retirement/social security and I as a single person working 40 hours a week get like 500 bucks?
She made the fatal mistake of asking me to start ordering her some vans tennis shoes which they didn't have in her size as Kohl's that she wanted and then stopped halfway through because she has ADD so I ended up purchasing them as a mother's day gift which she doesn't know about. It won't get there in time but she legit stonewalled me when I asked her what she wanted for mother's day.
All this to say I didn't get home till after 8 and I've been trying to edit but I've only managed the first pass through. This chapter is definitely NOT getting posted today. Which, that's fine. I also ducked out and bought a couple of pork bahn mi for dinner and lunch tomorrow while she was at Kohls.
I really want to finish editing this chapter but NGL I am in a lot of pain and am struggling to keep my eyes open at this point. Fuck waking up at 8am. I did it for years but hell it's so hard to go back to waking up early. And 8 is the max, I don't know how people can wake up at 6am. My insane brother wakes up at like 4am or 5am. I don't know how he does it. Of course, he's a nutter who is working full time doing 12 hour days at the hospital, has a wife and kids AND is putting himself through his masters program so that crazy fuck is operating on 4 hours of sleep a night for the past four years. I don't know how he does it. It exhausts me just thinking about his lifestyle.

Yeah I think I'm just going to admit defeat and throw in the towel tonight, I'm getting nothing meaningful done here. Depending on what time I wake up tomorrow I might do a second run through before work or over lunch. Or if not, I'll just do it on Sunday. It's not like I have this firm promise of which day I will post stuff. And I hate to say it, but like other people, the lack of people really interacting with my work is a tiny bit demoralizing. Sure, I'll get some kudos but no one really seems to be commenting so it definitely feels a bit like I'm just putting my stuff out into the void.
Which, a big part of me feels like you should write fanfiction expecting praise or comments. But another part does appreciate, I guess, the acknowledgment or validation I'm not just writing for myself, if that makes sense? I dunno, it's a weird thing to try and put into words.

midoriya izuku — ADORATION FROM DAY ONE
from the first day, he’d definitely had a crush on you since then.
it’s painful that you don’t quite notice it, but it’s been from the very start with him. the moment your first ever conversation with him ended, was the day you became imbedded into his mind forever, his heart palpitates everytime he hears your name, he tries to act subtle with the flush of his cheeks whenever you guys make eyecontact, presumably when he’s doing his word ramble.
activities spent together as friends would be taking buzzfeed quizzes, watching funny hero compilations, and of course, random shower thoughts.
his cheeks flush in pink whenever you lean onto him after a vigorous training session, your face pressed against your palm as you drink down from the waterbottle he offered to you. he’s a loss for words when you remember specific details of things no one but him would remember, because he’d be talking too fast.
scenarios go flying in his head whenever he lays down in bed. restless, and unable to fall deep into sleep, and when he replays the events that happened that day, that’s when he’s able to calm down. he can only start scrambling on how he’d tell you, that is.. if it doesn’t ruin what you guys have.
todoroki shōto — GRADUAL ADMIRATION
you were an one in a million, even before he realized his feelings.
you stuck with him through his best and worst moments. you saw the grime parts of him that he only expressed out of frustration, and you also saw that well polished version of him, a version of him that’s adorned in a clean turtle neck. he doesn’t know how it exactly manifested, but it was surely when he sat down on his futon, heart beating quite rapidly as he recalled what your voice was, your words, and your expression. and that was when he knew he was pinning on you.
activities he’d look forward to would be looking at memes of his dad, baking and accidentally setting the piece of batter on fire, reading weird books that were made by those new york times authors, buying oddly ugly clothes you’d never need,
shouto can’t help but smile when he sees you asking for some warmth, or maybe something cool, and while you’re talking to him like it’s a regular day, he doesn’t know what else to do but pull you closer when you fall asleep in a bus beside him. he’s also stuck with just admiring you, watching how your facial expressions change with each realization you make inside of your head.
he doesn’t know why it’s like this. his heart wasn’t acting like this in the years before, or maybe he’s sick.. it would be terrible if he was, and he wants to find out, because he wouldn’t be able to stand it if it affected what you guys have.
bakugō katsuki — SUBTLE.. OR MAYBE NOT.
it’s a miracle that he actually tolerated you, and it wasn’t just for a moment too
it wasn’t like you actively bothered him (bc he’d get sick of that shit quick) but just so happened to get roped into every single situation with him, and he just gradually got more used to you. he surely acted like he didn’t like being around you, but he found himself texting you, a reminder that he left a meal in the fridge for you and if you didn’t eat it, he’d eat it instead. he also found himself teasing YOU, and not the other way around, but if anyone did that— they’d meet their untimely end. and that’s how he realized it.
activities he.. didn’t hate a lot were arm wrestling with you, eating spicy food without milk, sending weird memes and with the context ‘that’s you.’, walking home with you because you’d get lost without him
he hates that everything suddenly changed, and he only noticed. he’s been checking you out since then, and he’s glad he’s never gotten caught. everytime he decided to text you ‘his best friend’, he found himself wondering if it’s appropriate, or if you’re asleep, or if he sounds too nice. that’s probably when he tosses his phone to the side, mumbling about getting that shit out of the bag soon.
kaminari denki — WEIRD REALIZATION
the best friend that was always goofy and quite chaotic around you, that was until you accidentally did something that he found attractive.
you guys always clicked with each other, practically sharing a braincell every single time you guys joked around with each other. your thought process was practically linked with his, and it was strictly platonic. you’re attractive, yes- but when you were laughing at his antics at 2am, you fell onto his lap. eyes staring at his electrifying gaze softly, yawning as you claim that you’re sleepy
activities you guys find yourself doing for the fun of it were reading cringy and badly written fanfics, making weird roleplays, doodling on each others’ faces when one of them sleeps, and making memes, printing them out and framing them.
it was such an eye opener to him, and he’s unsure if he has any regrets or not. everytime he sees you, he’s suddenly reminded of that night, and everytime you attack his shoulder during a laugh attack, he grows aware of your hands. he’ll be a mess, until he gets it out. but until then, he’s wondering if it should stay platonic, or if it should move forward. he’s unsure
shinsō hitoshi — CONTEMPLATING FROM AFAR
you guys worked well together. very compatible, and miscommunications were rare.
you were just conveniently there when shinsō needed someone, and you guys clicked so well, to the point he didn’t even remember a time he fought back with your attempts of being friendly. you were also that friend that managed to remember his presence, and bring him to places he needed to socialize (just so he’d work on it) and you’re oddly so patient with him, it’s crazy. he’d assume it was all strictly platonic until he found himself staring at you, and there was a split second that he imagined inside his head, a vision of you in his arms. and he shakes his head, because you’re his bestfriend, but.. the idea itself isn’t terrible.
activities you found each other bonding over were sneaking out, just to go to 7-11, asking random questions out loud and only for the other person to answer, aggressive mario cart, watching dance moms and the kardashians just because, and dragging shinsou to the bathroom so he could try on a painful pore strip with you at 1am.
he hates himself for being like this, and shinsō can’t help but feel guilty for checking you out whenever your back is turned, or when he starts anticipating for you to walk through that door with a painful skincare product in your hands. but he sighs to himself, because it’s now or never. if your wish was to make it strictly platonic, he’d be content with that as long as if it didn’t ruin anything, and if you were to be his then.. score.

The Smell of Plum Blossom Tea Ch 2
Summary: Just like a butterfly wing, a single act of kindness can change the course of the future, it certainly did for MK as a black-furred monkey put out a hand towards him.
Rating: Teen and up
Chapter 2: What’s in a Name?
It was a week since Macaque had taken MK in and to the child it has been the best week of his life. When he woke up in the mornings he didn’t have to worry about there being no food as he smelt it as soon as he opened his eyes, he could play in the forest with all the monkeys as long as Mac was there and he even had clothes that fit him instead of the same stinky shirt on days end. Everything was just wonderful.
“MK, what should we do about school?”
Or at least it was, but as soon as the monkey demon asked that question, MK's whole body deflated. “Do I have to go to school?”
“Education is important shooting star,” he said as he diced up some plants. “It helps things we don’t know and things we want to know.”
“Okay, but it is really boring, I always lose all my stuff all the time, and the teacher always explains it so weirdly,” the child pouted.
“Everyone has a different method of teaching, so you may have a method of learning as well.”
“Oohh….what does method mean?”
“It’s just another word for way.”
“Oh okay,” MK then tilts his head, “so what are you doing anyways?”
“Well right now I’m cutting up some herbs so I can use to make medicine,” he explained in simple terms as he then picked up the diced up blue plant and placed it into a cauldron and began to stir it.
“I didn’t know you could make your own medicine from home!” He leaped up and tried to poke his head over the counter to watch, “I always thought that you get it at the doctor's office.”
“Well doctors actually get it from a lab where people make the medicine there, this space here is my own lab.” He gestured to the room that was filled with all types of different ingredients all placed in a package inside of one storage cabinet and in another was a cabinet filled with modern lab equipment.
“So you don’t have to be a doctor to make medicine?”
“Well for most yeah, but for me,” he grinned as he picks up MK with one hand and placed him on his hip as he continues to stir with his other “let’s just say that I have been doing this for a little over 500 years, so I have a tad bit more experience and knowledge than regular humans.”
“Can I try?!” He excitedly asked.
“Well I don’t know, sometimes it will be a bit too dangerous for you to even be In here, which by the way, do not enter this lab unless I am here,” he sternly told him.
“Okay, okay got it, but pleaseee.”
“I don’t know, think you can handle it,” he teased.
“I’m a big boy! I can handle anything!”
“Hmmmm,” he pretended to think before conceding, “Alright you persuaded me, so I’ll allow it this once,” he said as he put the spoon down, “so first we make sure we have our safety gear on.”
“Check! Check!” MK adjusted the goggles on his eyes and showed off his long sleeve jacket and gloves.
“Next, what you have to do is go slow and make large circles.”
“Slow and large circles, got it,” he then proceeded to pick up the spoon and do what he said as he stirred.
“Good job kiddo, but how bout we make that circle a little bit bigger,” he gently grabbed MK’s hand and made it a bit wider. Soon enough the medicine's previous light yellow had transformed into a dark green.
“Look, it changed colors!” MK pointed out.
“That’s the beauty of medicine kid,” Mac grinned as he set him down, “now all I have left to do is to let this simmer for a few hours and it will be ready to be bottled up.”
“That’s a lot of medicine, is that all for you?”
The demon shook his head, “no it’s actually for one of my regular clients. His students routinely injure themselves, sometimes in the dumbest of ways, so I usually make batches of this every month.” His ears then slightly twitch as he grinned, “speaking of students, MK come here. I have someone here for you to meet.”
“Who?” He tilted his head as the monkey put a lid on a pot, proceeded to put away both of their safety gear as they left the room.
“Hey old-timer, I know your hearing isn’t that bad!” A voice yelled from down below that MK could barely hear, “come grab me, I’m carrying too much shit to climb up!”
“Someone to help,” was all Macaque said before he leaped out of the open window and less than a few seconds later, returned with a short bluenette woman in his arms. “MK this is Yanyu,” he said. “Yanyu, this is MK.”
“Uhhh, he shuffled his feet awkwardly as he gave a slight wave, “hi.”
“Awww,” she cooed at him, “it’s nice to meet you MK. You're rocking a pretty cool shirt there.” She pointed to his solar system shirt, “it’s really far out man.”
There was a pause as MK stuttered out a thank you and Macaque put his face in his hands.
“That was terrible, I hope you know that,” he groaned.
“That’s what you say, I know my puns are rockin my world,” she smirked at the louder groans.
“Please stop, I beg you.”
“Then beg.”
“Are you human?” MK bluntly asked, which made the two pause.
“Strangely enough that isn’t the first time I was asked that, but yes I am fully human. Though a small percentage of me is most likely full of crazy,” she grinned widely.
“I think you have those backward,” he muttered and didn’t even flinch when she elbowed his stomach. “So your probably wondering why she’s here right?”
“Uhhh yeah,” he nodded.
“Well, I have come to the realization that despite my many years with humans, I have never actually taken care of a human child outside of giving them medication.”
“Which he means that he knows not a single thing about taking care of you tiny ones,” Yanyu butted in as she crossed her arms, “and this is where I come in.”
“Oh well that’s good...I think?” MK didn’t exactly know what she meant, but since they said it’s a good thing, he feels like he doesn’t have any complaints.
“Oh trust me, it will be,” she said as she put down the bag and it was filled with books when she opened it up. “I may be a big sister of five, but even I can admit that I don’t know everything, so I brought some parenting books, nutrition, school, and a lot more.”
He couldn’t help but deflate slightly at the last word, which the bluenette noticed.
“Don’t like school?”
“Not really, it's just that I can’t stay focused sometimes,” he admitted as he lowered his head.
“Hey now,” Mac kneeled and ruffled his head, “you don’t have to feel shame for being distracted sometimes.”
“Hmm, well if you have troubles with traditional school classrooms, then how about you try online schooling?” Yanyu said.
“Online school?” MK tilted his head.
“I didn’t know it was also available for the younger grades, I thought it was only for the college classes like you had,” he admitted as he used his feet to pick up one of the parenting books.
“Nah, it was incorporated for all years a few years back. It certainly helped a lot of students out and one of them being me,” she proudly pointed a finger to herself, “let me tell you, kid, it was the second-best decision to do online school. Made my life so much easier.”
“What was the first?” He curiously asked.
Yanyu walked over to Macaque and patted him on the shoulder, “begging this ol doc here to take me on as a student. It was the cheapest and most informative learning I ever had since high school.”
“Student? You were a teacher!” MK's eyes widened as he looked at the monkey demon.
“Kinda, though I did question my sanity during those times,” he said as he flipped through the pages.
“Oh shut up, if it wasn’t for me you would still know squat about technology.”
“I wasn’t that bad.”
“You were still using the Jiaguwen system when I first met you.”
He winced, “okay yeah you got me there.”
“Anywho, it’s gonna be a right pleasure working with you MK,” she held out a fist bump to him, “we’re gonna see a lot of each other.”
MK looked at the outstretched fist and gave a little grin as he fist-bumped her hand.
“Boom,” Yanyu made an exploding sound as she opened her fist when the two parted.
He looked at her strangely.
“Don’t worry Starbright, she’s just weird like that,” Mac patted his head.
“Hey!”
A few months have passed and MK has taken to online schooling like a fish to water. He found it much better to concentrate and while there were still a few issues over understanding the problem itself, he had the help of both Macaque and Yanyu. The last one herself was helping him with his writing.
“The girl is walking to the market by the river to get milk for her mother,” MK repeated to himself as he finished writing.
“Congratulations kid, you have finally graduated from Yoda writing to a regular language,” she gave him a little applause.
“Thank you, thank you you're too kind,” he also jumped out of his seat to give a mock bow.
“But for real kid, you have really approved with your writing,” she gave him a high five, “nice job.”
“I couldn’t have done it without you both,” he scratched the back of his neck.
“I know that you would have been just fine even without our help and I know your dad would agree.”
“Really!” Then MK realized what she said and backtracked as he flailed his arms about, “Wait dad?! I mean dad is kinda a big word and he just adopted me, so he probably doesn’t even see me as a son, more like a responsibility he has to take care-,” he was stopped by a hand gently covering his mouth.
“Whoa there little monkey easy, I can’t keep up that fast,” she lightly teased as she put her hand down, “now you want to tell me what that was all about?”
“Well,” he sat down and kicked his feet, “I-its just-I don’t really-.”
“Take your time,” the bluenette said.
“Well,” he twisted his hands “is it okay if someone-and I don’t mean me just someone I know-don’t call mom and dad, well, mom and dad.”
“Yeah,” she said easily.
“Wait really?” He was a little more than shocked at how easy she said that.
“Really. You, or my bad that person you know, don’t feel comfortable or don’t want to call their parents so that they don’t have to.”
“But they gave birth to me-I mean that person and they raised them, so shouldn’t they have that name?” He tried to insist but was shut down by her shaking her head.
“They don’t keep that name if they harm the child, no parent ever deserves that kind of title if they purposely try to bring harm to their child. It is wrong,” she stated.
“Oh...and what about those that do?” He shyly said, both knowing what he was implying but not saying it out loud.
“Then you say it when your ready,” Yanyu simply said.
“I don’t think it’s that easy?”
“No, but what is?”
MK just shrugged his shoulders.
“Now how about we put away this stuff for ten more minutes before we get into history,” she pushed away from the materials and made sure the laptop was charged up.
“Yes!” He fist-bumped the air as he then spotted the pencil on the ground and tried to pick it up with his feet.
Yanyu had to press her lips together to fight against the bubbling laugh in her throat as she watched MK struggle to pick the pencil with the socks on his feet.
“Oi bastard I need a little help ova here!” A rough voice yelled out as it was followed by a loud bang, which led to the eight year old flailing off his bed.
“How many times have I told you to stop that?” He heard Macaque's familiar voice being annoyed.
“Too many times to count,” another softer voice replied.
“But you think that gunna sticka?” The third voice laughed out loud. “That’s a laugh!”
MK slowly opened his door and crept quietly to the living room as the voices got louder.
“I guess it is too much to ask you to be quiet for once?” The monkey deadpanned.
“Now why would I do that?” The first voice said.
It was at this point that MK managed to poke his head into the living room and saw three different demons, he knows they are demons this time, and his da-Macaque.
There was one whose skin was dark brown, but lighter above the shoulders. The more he looked, the more he could see that they were actually feathers all along the body, and instead of hands, they had clawed bird-like feet and two large black wings protruding from the back.
Another one was softly glowing a light blue hue that matched the pale blue skin as the creature was gently floating just a smidge above the ground. They had almost a mushroom-shaped hat covering their eyes and dozens of dark blue and purple strings attached all around the bottom of the hat as they hung just above the demon feet.
The final one is something that MK could clearly tell what it was as he had seen a bunny before, though this one was way larger than the other bunnies he had ever seen. The demon had pure gray fur and large white fluffy paws, if he wasn’t so nervous right now he would ask to pet them.
“Well I was hoping that you would have kept it down for the kid that is currently living with me right now,” he cracked a smirk at their frozen faces.
“Huh?” They all said in unison.
“Speaking of kids, you can come out MK. Don’t worry bout them too much, they ain’t harmful, just insane.”
At the prompting MK slowly shuffled into the living room and he saw three heads swivel towards him.
“Uhhh hi,” he gave a little wave.
“You have a kid?!?” They all shouted either loudly or softly.
“It’s not that big of a shock,” he grumbled as he walked over to the child and threaded his fingers through his hair. “Sorry, these knuckleheads woke you up.”
“I know I have not been gone that long for you to have a chick without me knowin!” The female bird demon squawked as her feathers puffed up in indignation.
“Nah, adopted him a few months back.”
“And you didn’t tell us?!” The bunny huffed as they thumped his foot in agitation.
“Nope,” he grinned as he watched their growing frustration.
“There are times where you are the best of us and times you are the worst of us, I don’t know which one this falls under,” the mushroom head demon groaned as one of the strings was massaging the top of his head.
“Are they your friends?” MK loudly whispered to the monkey demon.
“I don’t claim these lunatics,” he bluntly said.
“I think you mean to say that we are your amazing, wonderful, fantastic friends that you hold dear,” the bunny demon pointed out as they put an arm around his shoulder.
“I was forced into this,” Macaque said as a wing wrapped around the two of them.
“Ah just admit that you have a soft fuzzy heart for us,” the bird demon grinned.
“Not even when my bones decay away.”
MK just blinked at the unprompted scene as he saw the glowing blue demon approach him.
“Sorry about my companions, they can be a little much sometimes,” he smiled softly to him.
“It’s fine, you're not the only ones who make a loud entrance,” he thought back to the times Yanyu would kick the door open when she walked in.
“I suppose not,” the demon then held out one of his arms to the child, making sure his tentacles were out of the way, “my name is Bohai little one.”
“I’m MK,” he smiled back and shook his hand.
“Oh, we’re doing introductions?! Well, I’m Daiyu chicky,” the female demon grinned or at least that's what he thought she was doing with her scarred beak.
“I’m Minsheng,” the bunny demon twitched their nose and gave a toothy grin, “you're so small that you remind me of my siblings when they were born.”
“How many siblings do you have?” He curiously asked.
“Pfft older or younger? I stopped counting after we reached the 200s,” they laughed.
His eyes widened, “over 200! That’s a lot of brothers and sisters.”
“Well, you know how bunnies are.”
Before MK could question that he felt two furry hands cover his ears.
“How about we don’t talk about that to a kid who has probably never had a crush before,” Macaque hissed to the bunny who had their hands held up.
“He’ll learn eventually.”
“But I would rather have that explained to him by literally anyone but you.”
“Fair enough.”
“Anyways,” the monkey took his hands off MK’s ears, “what were you screeching about earlier?”
“Oh well I got a bit nicked with some of dem cretins after a territory dispute you know how it is and,” Daiyu turned around and showed her back...which had a few knives sticking out of it. “I got a bit scratched up in the tussle.”
“At least you had the sense not to take it out,” he couldn’t help but sigh. “You at least win?”
“Who do ya think your talkin to?” She proudly puffed up her feathers.
“And people say I have too much pride, you damn vultures take the cake,” Macaque rolled his eyes as the two of them walked towards the infirmary room.
“You say that as if you never met Flicker before,” she chortled.
“Well there’s a stark difference between you two.”
“Wha that?”
“He actually has a brain.”
“Hey!” She attempted to pull his dangling fur, but he ducked away in time.
“Can I stay up a little longer!” The seven year old asked before the door could shut.
“Only for a little bit, but when I get back it’s straight to bed.” He answered back and then the door closed.
“Thank you!” He called out regardless as he fully knew that he could hear him.
“And that’s the whole lot of us kid, we're only half as insane as curly made us out to be '' Minsheng joked.
“Almost all of us,” the jellyfish demon said.
“Who you? Ha! Hate to break it to you, but the last time you lost your patience was when they didn’t make your starfish the way you wanted and you paralyzed the entire cooking staff.”
“You didn’t have to bring that up, but no not me,” he waved one of his tendrils. “I meant Ahmed.”
“I didn’t include him in the first place because that man does not even classify as insane,” he bluntly said. “He has the patience of a monk to deal with our brand of insanity which, in hindsight, is insane itself.”
“Whose Ahmed?” MK asked, “is he another friend of d-Mac?”
The two looked at each other before Baiyu spoke, “yeah, he’s a friend of Macaque.”
“Ouch, that’s a low blow for poor Med,” they grinned then winced as a tendril shocked their arm. “What? You know I’m right.”
“You know as well as I do that he can still hear you.”
“I’ve been craving death anyways,” they then turned back to the kid, “so you want to hear some crazy stories about your old man.”
Needless to say that Mac had tackled the bunny demon to the ground, with two violet glowing escrima sticks in hand, in the middle of their story on how the fierce monkey demon had to dance his way across a road of hot coal as he tried to outrun an angry herd of demon pheasant while wearing a rather beautiful kimono.
Macaque was reading out on the patio when his ears twitched as he heard a soft whimpering coming from MK’s room. He put the book on the table when he walked in and safely crept his way over his room and like many times before MK was crying in his sleep from a nightmare once more.
“It’s okay shooting star,” he gently began to thread his fingers through MK’s hair, “it's just a bad dream. You will be fine.”
At first, it didn't have any effect, but the longer he talked the softer the whimpers began to die down and the kid's eyes softly began to blink open.
“W-what's goin on?” He hoarsely said as he rubbed his eyes as he realized that he wasn’t dreaming anymore.
“You just had a bad dream kid,” he hummed as he continued stroking his hair.
“Oh.”
“Want to talk about it?” He received a firm shake of his head, “that’s okay, do you want to lie back down, sing, water, or want me to give you a little shadow puppet show?”
“Shadow show please,” he muffled out as he gripped tighter onto the blanket.
“One show coming right up,” he used a shadow clone to bring back a lantern as the room began to softly glow. When all was set Macaque began his tale in a low voice, “There once was an old man who lived in a shack.” He used some of his shadows to show a picture of an elderly man and wooden shack, “he was nothing special, did nothing extraordinary, and his life was simply normal. Until one day he happens upon the most peculiar thing.”
He continued to tell the tale of the old man even when he, unknowingly, had wrapped his tail around his child’s hand and MK, who was slowly drifting off into a deep slumber, held a tight grip upon it.
MK was currently sitting on the edge of a large lake as he kicked his feet in the water. He was alone at the moment as the monkey demon was tending to the plants that he needs for various medicines. The lake itself was a beautiful view filled with lily pads, reeds standing tall in the crystal lake, fishes and herons swimming in the water. Though he was trying to guess what that large dark shape was, it was nothing he has ever seen before.
“Hmmm I don’t think it’s a fish...maybe a duck?” He leaned in to get a better look and noticed. “Or maybe a turtle!”
The shape shifted as it appeared to be getting bigger and bigger as MK now noticed that he had never seen a turtle with long arms and claws before. He then saw there was long string hair upon what he thinks is its head until suddenly it disappeared and was replaced with two beady eyes. His heart dropped when the creature opened its mouth to reveal countless rows of sharp, pointed teeth. Then it began to rapidly swim towards him.
MK, frightened, fell on his back as he tried to crawl away, but it failed as the creature burst out of the water and onto the ground merely a foot away from him.
He let out a piercing scream, “DDAAADDDDD!”
At the same time the creature, with his mouth wide, said “hi there human child!”
“What?” He abruptly stopped his screaming right as an ominous force suddenly filled up the area as MK then felt two familiar hands scoop him up and hold him close as the voice spoke almost lowly.
“What happe-oh it’s just you,” Macaque let the pressure go back to normal once he realized that there wasn’t a true threat that was trying to attack his kid.
“Bwahahaha,” the creature let out a bellowing laugh, “sorry sorry. I must have scared your youngin.”
“No!” MK instantly said, but then he wilted and nodded, “just a bit.”
“Sorry about that little child, I just get a bit excited when a new face comes around my lake and all,” the webbed creature gave a toothy grin. “I know I startled the pant off Minzhe when I first met him.”
“Your lake? You live here?” MK, after being let down, carefully tried to examine the waters closer.
“Right on the mark, since being a Shui Gui and all.”
“Shui Gui,” he drawled out as he thought about that familiar name.
“Or Kappa, our damn naming changes so often that at this point I just go with the flow.”
“Oh! I know what a Shui Gui is!” MK brightened as he began to tell what his...mom used to tell him. “Aren’t they vengeful demons that have drowned and are bent on dragging helpless victims underwater, drowning them and finally eating their...flesh to…to...” his face took on a look of horror as he realized what he just blurted out. “I am so sorry!”
Luckily though the two demons chuckled, or at least Macaque did as the Kappa was holding his stomach. Though this did make MK’s face flush in embarrassment, he should be glad that the demon wasn’t angry, but he didn’t find any humor in what he said.
“Well I’ll give you credit,” Kappa said as his laughter died down, “what you said was mostly true, except I’m not a demon, just a ghost.”
“And let’s be clear he hasn't eaten people since two-maybe three millenniums ago,” the monkey demon intruded as he knew what MK was gonna ask next.
“You humans have become much too stringy for my taste,” he joked, but it served the opposite purpose as the small child paled even further.
“And this is why your only friend is an adrenaline junkie who has a taste for his own death,” Mac deadpanned as he soothed MK down.
After his heart stopped thrumming in his ears the human managed to look up at his guardian and his eyes widened as he noticed that Macaque suddenly had three pairs of different colored ears: red, blue, and purple. “When did you get three ears?!”
“You just now noticed?” He raised an eyebrow.
“Did you have them all this time?!?!!”
“Not all the time, but I do when it’s quiet usually.”
“Cooolll!” He attempted to climb the monkey to get a better look, “Is this how you're able to hear things from so far away?”
“Yeah,” he lets him examine his ears as only his eye minuscule twitch when MK accidentally pulls it too hard. “Be careful now, only have three pairs of them you know.”
“Right, sorry.” He apologized as he became gentler with his touches. He couldn’t help but gently drag his fingers through the oddly pointed ears and he smiled, now he understood why some of Mac's clients called him the Six-Eared Macaque. He eventually got down and faced the spirit once more, who was just looking at the two of them with amusement. “I’m real sorry for screaming at you.”
“Water under the bridge young child,” he waved him off, “least you apologize for it. I know that half the ones in these woods won’t even say sorry for ramming into you.”
“There’s more of you?” He tried to look in the lake, but he was once again met with only fish and water.
“Me specifically no, but spirits, demons, and other whatnot. Oh yeah there's hundreds of them dwelling in this here forest.”
“Wowww,” his eyes sparkled, “so does that mean that we are all neighbors.”
It was stunned silence before the Shun Gui began laughing once more as he bends down, “PFFTHAHAHA!”
“Did I say something funny?” MK looked towards Mac who was pinching his nose once more.
“No, he’s just obnoxious, that’s all.”
“You know what I like you kid, yeah we’re all neighbors, man even Ping would get a laugh out of this,” the water spirit said after his laughter died down. “Welcome to the neighborhood MK!”
“Thanks...umm what’s your name again?” He embarrassedly asked as he realized that he never got a name throughout this whole interaction.
“Oh here we go,” Mac sighed as he got comfortable and plucked up a Ravenna grass and began to chew on it. He grimaced as he realized that he had plucked up a weed again.
“Eh, you can call me Kappa if you want, don’t care for the whole naming thing,” he shrugged as he got back in the lake and laid there.
“Why not?” He curiously followed him.
“Why should I?” He shot back with a grin.
“Huh?”
“Why should I care for my name? It’s my name and I can do whatever I want with it, so I just choose not to care.”
“But don’t you like your name,” he was very confused about how this conversation came about.
“Oh I do, but truth be told, most of the time I forget others' names, so one day I just thought ‘you know what, what if I just don't use my name all the time’ and I didn't,” he finger gunned at the blank face child.
“You're kinda weird,” he bluntly told Kappa.
“I’m sorry,” Mac spoke up in disbelief, “You met a trio of lunatic demons that are a hot mess in general, an insane human who likes to add too much ghost jalapeño to her food, one of my clients who have their organs outside of their body and this is where you draw the line of weird?”
“I just wanted to know his name!” He threw his hands up.
“Just whatever is fine,” he laughed.
“Well fine! Your name is Whatever now!” He said in a fit of frustration before he realized what he said, “wait! I didn’t mean-,”
“Pfthahaha!” The spirit once more threw his head back in laughter.
“...what is even happening,” MK deadpanned.
“Welcome to my life Starchild,” Mac said as he ruffled his hair.
“That’s an interesting one, alright Whatever it is then,” he gave him a toothy grin.
“Wha-no please no,” MK almost begged him. “I didn’t-,”
“Nope too late, I won’t respond to anything else but Whatever from you. Hope to see you around short stack, you really know how to bring a laugh to a vengeful spirit face,” he let out a bark of a laugh before diving down deep into the lake.
MK blinked for a few moments before turning to Macaque, “is he really gonna-,”
“Oh yeah he is only gonna respond by that name,” he cut him off, “called him a Kappa once to his face and that slimy frog hasn’t let go since.”
“...I think I want to go back home dad,” said MK as he leaned into his fur. “I think I’m done for the day.”
Macaque’s breath hitched as he then gave him a gentle smile and scooped him up in his arms. “Yeah, I think I am as well.” And with that, the two mentally exhausted people made their way back to their warm home.
MK, who proudly turned nine as of a few months ago, was playing in an arcade as his dad was grocery shopping. He stuck out his tongue as he attempted to repeatedly punch the monster in Monkey Mech, but he keeps getting beaten right before he can land the final punch. He mused up his short ponytail out of frustration that was held by a red ribbon, “Oh man! I swear this guy cheats, alright seventeen times the charm.”
“I thought it was the third time the charm?” He turns around at the voice and sees a pigtail girl around his age looking at him.
“It is, but I lost sixteen other times, so this time I will win,” he confidently said as he put another token in, and just like before he lost. “I almost had it!”
“Move over,” the girl pushed him aside and took over the controls, “let me show you how to really play.”
MK's jaw dropped when the Winner title popped up after she managed to land the final triple axel uppercut to the enemy. “How’d you do that?!”
“Oh just a lot of practice, and searching online, to find the right moves to slain the beast,” she bragged.
He went down on his knees and bowed to her, “oh teach me your ways oh wise one.”
“You may refer to me as Master Mei,” she deepened her voice to sound elderly, “and who shall I call my young student.”
“Call me MK,” he followed along with glee, he hasn’t played with a kid his age in so long.
“Well then let me show you the ways of Monkey Mech,” and with that the two proceeded to play the game, playfully pushing each other as they double battled in a co-op mode. It wasn’t until a few hours had passed, and they had long passed Monkey Mech and went into all the different kinds of games in the arcade when MK noticed the digital clock behind the counter.
“Aww man, it’s getting late,” he pouted as he didn’t want to end, “I have to meet up with dad.”
“Awww,” Mei's shoulder slumped as they walked to the prize area, “that sucks.”
“Yeah,” he slumped his shoulder, as well as the two, looked through the prizes available, which did brighten the mood a bit as Mei left with a strange mutated stuffed dog that had three eyes, a few pieces of candy, and three bouncy balls, while MK was sucking on a swirly lollipop, pieces of chocolate in his pocket, and a sticky hand sling that he is slinging everywhere.
“So you like racing?” MK asked as they left the arcade, besides the Monkey Mech he noticed that Mei tended to go to the racing games more often.
“Yes! One day I will have my own motorcycle and I will be faster than anyone, even the Monkey King!” Mei declared.
“Even the Monkey King? Wow that is fast,” he said in awe, he read the story of the Journey to the West from the library. He was quickly enamored with the story the more he read and he soon began to idolize the great Monkey King. To think that such a being could ever exist in the first place was amazing! He did find it funny that the great Monkey King rival was named Macaque, it was hilarious to think that his dad could ever have powers to fight on equal standing with a god-like immortal. Grumpy? Sure! Easy annoyed? Oh yeah definitely, but scary? Ha! The scariest thing Dad has ever done was glare at his patients when they were being too noisy, but for some reason it always works as they shrink back in fear. He mentioned it to Yanyu and the demon gang one time and well-
“HAHAHAH/PFFTTTTT/SQUAK SQUAWK SQUAAAKK/SHEHEHEH,” Yanyu was rolling all over the floor as Minsheng was banging his feet, Daiyu was slamming the table with her wings, and Bohai was using all his tentacles to wrap himself.
-they burst out laughing when he mentioned this to them. He still hasn’t gotten a full answer for that one, all they told him was to wait.
“I wonder how far that can go?” Mei curiously asked as she watched the green sling attach itself on the top of the door that they were exiting.
“Not far, how high can your bouncy ball bounce?” He asked as he then watched her bounce the ball and saw it soar a bit high above their heads.
“Not that high either...how about we combine them,” she gave a mischievous grin as MK followed suit as he used his sticky sling and attached it to the ball.
“One,” Mei started.
“Two,” MK raised his hand in mid-air.
“Thr-”
“Ready to go kid.”
“AH!” They screamed and watched the sling and ball slip from his hand and instead of bouncing, it was thrown in Mac's face, who easily caught it.
“Not the first time I had something thrown at me,” he didn’t even blink at the outburst, though he did take a second glance at the other child next to his son, “though your new, made a friend Stardust.”
“Her name is Mei!” MK excitedly said though it didn’t look like Mei was paying attention to him at all as her focus was all on Macaque, or more specifically, his head.
“What?” The monkey demon raised an eyebrow.
“You have the longest hair I have ever seen,” her eyes sparkled as she instantly zoomed behind him and started to pull on his fur. “Can I braid it?!”
“It’s actually fur,” he corrected her.
“Can I still put it in a braid?”
“Sure.”
“Then I don’t care!” She happily proclaimed and pointed to one of the benches. “Sit.”
“...” he looked towards his kid who just shrugged his shoulders, “well I guess this is happening,” he sighed as he got a clone to take the rest of their groceries back home.
Needless to say that Mei very much enjoyed putting the demon fur in a messy, but still manageable, braid.
“You know if I had some Morning glories, they would look amazing in your hair,” she mused.
“You know their weeds right?” He pointed out.
“So? They look awesome.”
“You got me there.”
“There!” She proudly finished her creation with her green ribbon tied up at the end, “you have very fluffy hair.”
“Fur,” he once more corrected her.
“Eh fur, hair there the same thing,” she turned back from the monkey and to MK with a nervous smile, “you will definitely come back right? I haven’t finished playing all the arcade games with you.”
MK looks towards his dad with puppy dog eyes and Mei easily follows suit.
“You know those don’t work on me right,” he deadpanned and smirked at their hanging heads, “but yeah, I’ll drop him off from time to time.”
“Yes!” They both jump up in cheer, only for some of their candy to fall out and onto the floor.
“My babies!” MK rushed to pick up his pieces of semi-melted chocolate.
“Noooo!” Mei quickly began to grab as many of her jawbreakers as it rolled away.
Macaque watched them in amusement at their mad scramble to save their sugar fix.

Ch 5: Dancing Queen
Rico and Nanaba were out drinking again at a nearby bar while Hange was away. Hange mentioned how she had to grab some things from her goat house, so Rico and Nanaba took it upon themselves to drink some more and talk to the locals.
Rico looked up at the bartender in front of her. She recognized him as one of the men who had helped her and Nanaba earlier. This man was way taller than her, and definitely over 6 feet. He had long, light ash-brown hair styled in a mullet, and he had small, intense golden-brown eyes. It almost gave him a vicious look. This time the man was shirtless and only wore swim trunks. It's a good thing wearing swimwear on/underneath clothing was considered normal on the island.
“Here you go, one cocktail for a beautiful woman like you.” he slides the drink over to Rico and gives her a wink. Rico grabbed the drink and gave the man a flirty smile. Definitely not vicious. He seemed like a nice and flirty guy to her.
Maybe husband number 4? Rico smirks as she drinks her cocktail. Don’t get Rico wrong now. She knows what is out of line when it comes to choosing her future husband. However, a little bit of flirting won’t hurt.
“Thank you…” Rico trailed off. Shoot. She never got the guy’s name.
Jean grabs a wet rag and starts cleaning off the bar “Jean. I’m also one of Sasha’s friends.”
“Ah, I heard of you!” Nanaba yells out suddenly. She looks at Jean with excitement. Nanaba loves learning about the bits and pieces of Sasha’s life. After all, it’s been years since she has last seen her. “Sasha has talked a lot about you! You’re Niccolo’s best man, right? Have you been on the island this whole time?”
Jean nodded “Yes and no. Yes, I am Niccolo’s best man. No, I haven’t stayed on the island the whole time. I actually came back a few months ago to prepare for the wedding. I’ve been busy with college studying for art before coming back. I'm currently staying at the old house that I share with my friend, Marco.”
Jean is a Fine Arts major at the Paris College of Art. He agreed to study in France because of his mom. You see, Jean originally lived in France before moving to Kalokairi to be more independent. He was from Strasbourg, which is about 500 km away from Paris. It’s a long drive, but it is worth it for him to see his mom’s smile every time he visits. Jean also works part-time in the bar in Kalokairi to help pay for his expenses. Jean is lucky his old boss let him work again, or else he would be doomed.
Jean reminisced when he first came back to Kalokairi. He was excited to see Sasha again and for the wedding. Jean views Sasha as a sister he wishes he had, and he was genuinely happy to be a part of her wedding.
Jean smiled at the memory. He was strolling through the island, greeting the locals and familiar faces. In fact, Jean was too busy reminiscing to even hear the sound of running footsteps heading towards him from behind. It was then when Jean’s peace was ruined by Hanami jumping on his back. She loudly proclaims her excitement for them working together for Sasha’s wedding (she is Maid of Honor, and he is the Best Man).
Jean sighed as he finished wiping off the bar. That woman is gonna be the death of him one day.
Nanaba looked up to find Rico studying Jean, who was lost in thought. Oh no. Here comes Husband number 4 already.
She rolls her eyes and looks at Rico's drink. It had a peachy color, decorated with an orange wedge on the rim and a mini umbrella. It looked familiar to her, but she couldn’t put a name to it. The orange slice meant it’s definitely fruity. Ironically enough, Nanaba is not a big fan of fruity drinks. She likes a fruity smell in her perfume though. Nanaba prefers drinking beer or hard alcohol like whiskey.
Nanaba grabs Rico's attention. “Hey Rico, what kind of drink did you get?” She proceeds to drink her beer.
“Sex on the beach,” Rico replies nonchalantly. This causes Nanaba to almost choke on her drink. She began to have a coughing fit.
Rico repeatedly slaps Nanaba’s back until she stops coughing. “Did I say something wrong, Nana? Why did you start coughing?” Rico raised an eyebrow.
Jean, noticing Nanaba’s coughing fit, stops making drinks for other customers, to give Nanaba a napkin. She thanks him, and Jean nods and returns back to his job.
Nanaba wipes her mouth and turns to Rico. “Are you trying to imply something by ordering that specific drink with him? You're staring is not exactly subtle, you know." She quickly darts her eyes to Jean, who was busy doing his job and not eavesdropping on their conversation.
Rico laughs and takes a sip of her drink. “Take your mind out of the gutter, Nana.” Rico smirks “I just wanted to order a drink. That’s all. Unless...maybe I am?" She winks at Nanaba and laughs.
Nanaba rolls her eyes and smiles at Rico. She wasn’t surprised that Rico took the opportunity to mess with her. Nanaba looks over to Jean to make sure he is busy. She places a hand on Rico’s shoulder and looks at her with a serious face.
“Don’t mess with the poor boy, Rico. You’re old enough to be his grandmother,” she says with the most serious tone she could come up with. She takes her hand away and takes another sip of her beer. Rico lightly slaps Nanaba’s shoulder in fake offense and laughs again. Of course, Nanaba would point that out. Rico was ready to make a comeback but stopped as she heard running heading in her direction.
Both women turn around from their seats to see an exhausted and frightened Hange run up to them. Hange’s hair was messier than normal, and her glasses were slightly crooked. One of the straps of Hange’s overalls came loose too. She looked as if she ran a marathon or was practicing for the Olympics.
“Where’s Sasha?” Hange asks as if her life depended on it.
Jean, who noticed Hange's appearance, answers for Rico and Nanaba. “I think she’s at the beach with the other girls.” He goes back to his job but doesn't question Hange’s looks. He doesn't want to die before the wedding.
“What’s up?” Nanaba asks tenderly and reaches up to fix Hange’s glasses. Now that Hange was up close, she noticed how red her eyes were and the tears that were ready to spill.
Hange was overwhelmed with emotions. She has to juggle running the hotel, Sasha’s wedding, and now deal with her past lovers! This was not how she wanted Sasha’s wedding to go. She couldn’t bear the idea of having both sides meet. What would the men think? Heck, what would Sasha think? Hange has been vague about Sasha’s father for years now. Would Sasha hate her for keeping them a secret? She doesn’t even know who Sasha’s actual father is!
Hange felt her dam begin to burst and some snot running down her nose. Hange ignored Nanaba’s question and ran off to the nearest bathroom. She ignores Nanaba and Rico calling out to her. Hange ran into the nearest open stall, closed the door and the toilet seat, and sat down to cry. She didn’t want the whole island to see her at the moment, so crying in the bathroom was the best thing to do. Hange grabs a part of her overalls to blow her nose.
Meanwhile, Nanaba and Rico (who brought her purse and her drink) followed Hange to the bathroom and called out her name. Sadly, there was no reply. She only heard the soft cries coming from the nearest stall. Nanaba runs to the front of the door. Rico closes the bathroom door and sets her stuff down before joining her.
Nanaba knocks on the door and turns to Rico with a worried look on her face. There was no response again except for Hange blowing her nose.
“Talk to her,” Rico whispers to Nanaba. Nanaba nods her head and turns back to the door. She leans towards it and takes a deep breath.
“Hans.'' She starts with Hange’s nickname from college. Nanaba spoke to Hange with a tender and caring tone. “Tell me what’s wrong.”
Nanaba places her ear against the door and waits to hear anything from Hange. She only hears soft whimpers instead. This caused Nanaba to frown. She turns to Rico and moves her hand in a hurry-up motion. She already put some effort into this. Now it's Rico’s turn.
“Oh, right! Uhh…” Rico was unsure about what to do. She hasn’t seen Hange cry like that in years. The last time Rico heard Hange cry like that was after Levi left, and it was over the phone too! She glances at Nanaba who kept encouraging her to go.
Rico was unsure about what to say. She’s not the best at comforting people, but she will at least try. For Hange. “I’ve never seen you with so much sorrow, Hans."
Nanaba turns to Rico in realization and grabs her shoulders "and the wedding is tomorrow!"
"We have to see Hange!" She whispers to Rico.
Rico nods in agreement and takes Nanaba’s hands off of her. "Good plan. You go on all fours on the floor, and I'll stand on your back. You look from the bottom, and I'll look from the top."
Nanaba looked at Rico with disbelief "Are you crazy? It's logical for me to be on the top. I'm the tallest!"
Rico pinched the bridge of her nose, causing her glasses to move up slightly. She sighed while Hange’s crying continued in the background.
"Now is not the time to be comparing heights, Nanaba. Hange is not emotionally stable right now, and she needs us to help. Besides, it's logical for you to be on the bottom. You're heavier than me."
Nanaba wanted to punch Rico for playing the weight card, but she did have a point. She also knows about Rico’s cleaning standards (which aren’t as high as Levi’s, but only Hange knows that), so she won’t go down on the floor unless she has to.
Nanaba sighed. Now was the time for arguing. They needed to focus on Hange and can deal with Rico later.
"Fine." Nanaba moved to go on all fours on the floor. She tilted her head towards her back "Hop on."
Meanwhile, Hange continued to cry into her palms. She was too depressed to even hear what was going on the other side of the door. The memories with all three men kept replaying in her mind nonstop. Hange can recall cuddling on the beach with Erwin. She can picture dancing with Mike underneath the night sky on his yacht. She also remembers the time when Levi kissed her forehead when she pretended she was sleeping one day. Hange continued to cry but stops when she hears a thump on the door.
Hange looks up to find Rico staring down at her and holding on to the door. Now Hange was confused. Rico is too short to look over from the top. Unless…
She let her eyes fall downward to find Nanaba looking at her from the bottom. Both she and Rico had a concerned look on their faces.
"I hate to see you like-” Rico gestures to Hange “-this."
Hange looks up at Rico as she continues on. Hange felt ridiculous. Here she was crying over 3 men on the toilet. She knew she looked like a mess. She needs to get up from the toilet first in case her friends suddenly burst into song.
Nanaba adds onto Rico’s statement, "Hans, you can't deny that you're sad. It's just...We haven't seen you this sad since- ahh!" She and Rico scream as Hange suddenly opens the door.
Hange runs out to the bathroom door and to the nearest sink. Nanaba and Rico quickly stood up and went to either one of Hange’s sides. Rico and Nanaba patted Hange's back to comfort her. They didn't want to force Hange to talk. She can talk when she is ready.
Hange looks at herself in the mirror. She looks and feels like shit. Ironically, it made her think about Levi. What was that nickname Levi would call her besides Four Eyes? Shitty Glasses. Hange looked at herself in the mirror. Now her whole face played the part too. It almost made Hange laugh. Her eyes were red and puffy, and she could see some snot dripping down her nose. Hange wipes it off with a tissue Rico put out in front of her. Hange’s clothes looked disheveled too. She couldn't recognize herself in the mirror.
Nanaba leaned her head on Hange’s shoulder. Hange smiled and put her right hand on Nanaba’s cheek as thanks. Rico leaned on Hange’s other shoulder, and Hange placed her head on top of Rico's.
"You're our best friend, Hange," Nanaba says softly. She uses Hange’s actual name instead of her nickname. That's how Hange knew Nanaba was being serious.
"You can rely on us" Rico replies next with a soft tone as well.
Hange begins to cry again. What did she do to deserve friends like them? They saw Hange rise and fall in life, yet they stayed by her side no matter what.
Nanaba and Rico, who noticed Hange’s waterworks appearing again, turns Hange away from the mirror. They push her up to sit on the sink. Nanaba and Rico sat down on the sink next to Hange after she was situated.
Rico speaks up first after a moment of silence "You’re usually so sure of yourself Hange. Now, look at you. You look so broken." She looks at Hange with concern. "Just know that it's ok to cry. You’ll be up and dancing again once your pain ends" She rubs Hange’s arm and Hange smiles at the gesture.
Nanaba leans towards Hange to fix her overalls, and Hange turns to look at her. "I hope we can patch up whatever is going on, Hange. We just want to see you happy again." Hange smiles at Nanaba’s words.
"That's it!" Rico suddenly says "you just need a little pick me up. That would help cheer you up!" Rico turns to Nanaba. "Help me out her Nanaba."
Both women jump down from the sink. Rico goes to her purse, which was nearby. Nanaba takes off Hange’s glasses and stands ready for whatever Rico has in store.
First, Rico hands Nanaba some tissues to wipe Hange’s tears and snot. Nanaba wipes Hange’s nose until Rico starts throwing one too many tissues at Hange.
Second, Rico grabs a breath spray freshener. Nanaba opens her mouth for Hange to mimic as she takes off the cap. Nanaba sprays it one time, but Hange starts coughing from the spray entering her throat.
Third, Rico grabs some perfume and hands it to Nanaba. Hange was expecting a few sprits of perfume not bathing in the whole bottle! Hange sneezes because of the perfume. Maybe she would smell good enough to be up to Levi’s standards? Hange rolls her eyes at the thought.
Finally, Rico grabs her cocktail for Hange to drink. Nanaba works to redo Hange’s ponytail. Hange reaches over to grab the drink, but Rico moves it out of her reach. Rico places the drink on Hange’s lips and tilts the glass up to a point Hange might as well chug the whole thing. Hange moves her hands up and takes the drink away from her mouth.
"OK! I appreciate the help, you guys!" Hange cries out. She sniffs and wipes her nose with her arm. She might as well confess and get straight to the point
"It's her dad," Hange confesses.
Nanaba and Rico were confused. "Who's dad?" Rico asks.
Hange looks at Rico with a serious face. "Sasha’s dad" she clarifies
Hange stares at her friend’s faces but was met with silence. She decided to continue with her story.
"Remember how I told you it's Levi, the supposed mystery guy who is actually a millionaire? The man who left to get married."
Nanaba and Rico nodded to show they are following Hange’s story.
"Well, there were two other guys. Around the same time. You already met one of them before."
Hange looks up at Nanaba. Although Nanaba was looking at the floor, Hange could see the gears turning in her head and the puzzle pieces fitting together. Nanaba realized who she was talking about and how he and Hange did more than just ‘go on nightly boat rides.’
"The man who accidentally ran into you that day...the boat rides...” She looks up to meet Hange’s eyes. “One of them is Mike. Isn't it?"
Hange nods and looks away in shame. She didn't want to see Nanaba’s reaction. Hange suspected Nanaba had a crush on the guy, but she noticed it too late. Hange’s mind was clouded by her summer romance to even notice Nanaba’s longing stares at Mike. Hange still feels guilty and selfish about it to this day.
Rico placed her hand on Hange’s cheek so she can face her. "Why didn't you tell us?"
“Well, I never knew I would ever have to really! I don't even know who Sasha’s actual father is!” Hange confesses.
Nanaba placed her hand on Hange’s shoulders for support. Hange didn't see any hatred in Nanaba’s eyes after confessing about sleeping with Mike. Bless Nanaba’s heart. “Well, we already know Levi and Mike. Who’s the third guy?”
Hange takes a sip of her drink before responding, “A man named Erwin Smith. I don’t think any of you know him. He left Kalokairi before you guys arrived.”
Nanaba takes her hand off of Hange’s shoulder and shakes her head “The name does not ring any bells.”
Hange looks at Rico expecting the same reaction as Nanaba. What she did not expect was Rico’s mouth wide open in shock.
“Erwin Smith. Tall, blonde hair, blue eyes, and a face that looks like he starred in a movie? That Erwin Smith?” Rico asks as if she was in a trance
Hange looked at Rico with surprise. “Yes?”
Suddenly, Rico broke out of her trance and jumped with excitement. Hange and Nanaba looked at her confused.
“I’ll take that you know Erwin Smith?” Nanaba asks after Rico calmed down a bit
“Of course! Who doesn’t know who he is?” Rico said
“Apparently me,” Nanaba mumbles to herself, but Rico hears her anyway.
Rico sighs after calming down a bit. She takes out her phone and googles Erwin’s name. She pulls up the first image of him and shoves her phone to her friend’s face.
“Of course you wouldn’t, Nanaba. Erwin was on the cover of People’s: Sexiest Men Alive a few years ago and was in the Top 10 of the Most Handsome Faces in TC Chandler!”
Rico looks at Hange and Nanaba’s faces. She was expecting an exciting reaction but was met with her best friends just staring at her.
Rico continues instead “His dad was a successful university professor and is known for his contributions in research and activism. Erwin is similar to him, except he is a lawyer. Overall, Erwin is a very influential person in New York, and he has a good looking face”
Rico turns off her phone and pockets it away, and turns to Hange. “Hange, you’re a lucky gal to have slept with him. I gotta say that I’m impressed. You gotta introduce me to him sometime.”
Nanaba rolled her eyes. Hange couldn’t believe what she was hearing. “I knew he was a lawyer, but not all of that!” she waves her hands around to emphasize it. She ignored Rico’s suggestion for now.
Rico gave Hange a sympathized smile “Well, you’ve been so focused and dedicated to your hotel and Sasha. I’m not surprised you don’t pay much attention to everything outside of Kalokairi or even Greece.”
Meanwhile, in Nanaba’s head, she was trying to fit all of the puzzle pieces together. She didn’t see any of the men when she and Rico first arrived on the island, nor did she see them while heading to the hotel.
So that means they arrived after us, Nanaba thought. The question is, where are they now?
“Hange” Nanaba interrupts Rico and Hange’s conversation. Rico had asked Hange who she thought was the best out of the three she slept with. Nanaba could tell who she picked based on Hange’s small yet goofy and Rico’s 'are you serious?' face. “Where are the men now?” she asks carefully.
Hange’s face became horrified. She last saw them in the old goat house, but what if Sasha came back from the beach? How would she react?
“The old goat house,” Hange says. She looks at both of her friend’s faces “We can’t let them meet Sasha!”
Nanaba and Rico quickly grab their things as Hange puts the drink down and jumps off the sink. The three ran off towards the goat house, but not too fast to avoid any suspicion from any onlookers.
Meanwhile, Sasha and her friends peeked up from their hiding spots to find Rico and Nanaba entering the barn. They went back into hiding as soon as Hange entered.
“Don’t let them hear you!” Hange whispers as Rico and Nanaba climb up the steps to the attic.
Nanaba opened the hatch and looks inside first. Rico and Hange followed after only to find nothing.
“There’s no one here,” Nanaba says in shock.
Rico turns to Hange. “Are you sure?” she asks questioningly.
Hange rolls her eyes. “Of course, I'm sure! Do you think I would forget my daughter’s dads?”
She sighs. “They were all here. Levi Ackerman, Erwin Smith, and Mike Zacharias.”
Sasha takes a quick peek from her hiding spot with Mikasa to find her mom walking down the steps from the attic. Nanaba and Rico followed behind her.
“They must have gone on Mike’s boat,” Hange says as she walks out of the barn. “I hope they hit aground and drown.”
Hange enters the hotel and goes up the stairs to go to her bedroom. “What are they even doing here? It’s like fate just hates me today,” she says and throws her hands up in the air.
“Do they know about Sasha?” Nanaba asks as she runs up the steps.
“What are they, psychic?. Of course not! I never told a soul.” Hange turns to face Nanaba before heading into her room.
“Not even Pieck?” Nanaba asks and puts her purse down.
“I never told her too,” Hange says as she paces around near her bed.
“Oh Hange, you kept this to yourself all these years,” Rico says sympathetically and puts her stuff down.
Hange stops pacing and heads to her balcony door. “It doesn’t matter to me.” She closes the door. “The only thing that matters is that Sasha does not find out.”
Rico puts her hands on her hips and watches Hange walk around the room. “Maybe she might be cool with it?” she suggests.
Hange walks up to her bedroom door and closes it. “Cool with it,” she repeats. When would Sasha ever be cool with something like that? She might react the same way Hange reacted to Eren and Connie accidentally breaking her vase from Ms. Alexandra. It was not a pretty sight.
Hange chuckles nervously and walks over to her friends. “You don’t know Sasha as I do. This would be like a bombshell.
“But Hange, they’re gone!” Nanaba argues
“I don’t know that! They could be anywhere for all I know!” Hange runs her hands through her ponytail and moves to sit in front of her vanity.
She looks at herself in the mirror “I did this all to myself because I was stupid and reckless little slut.” she says and glares at her reflection.
Rico and Nanaba both gasped. “A slut?” Rico questioned. “You sound like your mother, right Nanaba?” Nanaba nods and laughs
Hange quickly turns around “I do not!” she says offensively.
“Yes, you do,” Nanaba says as Rico laughs this time.
Rico walks over to Hange’s stuff and grabs a feather boa and a ridiculous-looking hat. She then turns to Nanaba and gives her a familiar look that only Nanaba could understand. Nanaba caught on to Rico’s message and took her phone out of her pocket.
“Whatever happened to our Hange? The life and soul of the party.” Rico says dramatically. She puts the hat on top of Hange’s head and the boa around her neck.
“Yeah, the one who would talk your ears off about her research but can convince you to do a random musical number in the middle of campus? I’m astonished by how many men agreed to join." Nanaba adds as she was scrolling through her phone.
"Exactly, Nanaba! I remember how our Hange would attract so many guys with that back in New College." Rico laughs at the memories of different men walking up to Hange as she studied. Hange was too engrossed in her research to give most of them the time of day!
******
Hange could tell what Rico was trying to do. "Well, I grew up." She says as she recalls how much she has changed since.
Nanaba nudges Rico and steps away from her to give them some space. Rico smiles. "Well, you need to grow back down again Hange."
Rico jumps in her spot to face Nanaba and points to her. "Hit it, Nanaba!"
Nanaba presses play on her music app and pocket her phone away to where Hange could still hear the music. The familiar tune of “Dancing Queen” fills the room.
Hange watches her friends as they move their arms in a goofy manner, shook their hips, and sang their hearts out to the song. At one point, Nanaba and Rico faced one another and they sang to each other before directing their attention to Hange so she could sing along.
Hange squealed when her friends poked her sides. She ran to her bed and laid face down to avoid them. She moved her head up slightly to peek at her friends from her spot behind her blanket. Instead, she found her room empty, but the music continued to play.
Hange watched Rico and Nanaba rise up from the floor, go back down, and repeat the process a few times as they sang. The two eventually moved around Hange’s room and used multiple objects as props for their performance. In Hange’s opinion, Nanaba and Rico’s singing and dancing looked pretty ridiculous, but she knew they meant well. "Dancing Queen" is one of Hange’s favorite songs, and people at New College witness Hange dancing at parties. She was known as the Dancing Queen back in her college days. She wasn’t the best dancer, but anyone could tell she was having fun with one glance.
Hange started tapping her foot to the beat as she continued laying on the bed. She started reminiscing about her college days when she would go out and have fun, all while learning about biology. She remembered how she and her friends would let loose and just live life to the fullest. Hange wanted to explore and discover new parts of the world. It was one reason why she left for Kalokairi on her own all those years ago.
Hange sat up and pulled the blanket towards her. She watched as her friends go through her drawers to grab random articles of clothing to put on. Rico put on a puffy dress over her clothes, and Nanaba grabbed a random shirt and tied it around her head. Hange felt her mood change, and now she wanted to join in on the fun.
She sets the blanket aside and jumps during the song’s refrain. Hange felt as if she was the star of the show, her bed was the stage, and her friends were her audience. Hange felt alive! She felt like she was 22 again performing onstage with her friends. Hange even did a split in the air! Hange continued dancing on her bed before she had an idea. She grabbed her forgotten boa and ran out of her room.
“Where are you going?” Rico calls out while laughing.
Hange was running down the steps of the hotel, stops, and turns around to Rico. “I feel like singing today. Might as well do a musical number just like old times.” She winks and laughs as she continues running down the stairs.
Rico and Nanaba look at each other with glee before following Hange. They got their Hange back!
Hange, Nanaba, and Rico jumped around in sync as they passed the courtyard. The locals who watched nearby laughed. It looks like the trio was back at it again.
You see, before Hange had met Mike, Hange and her friends did a few performances in Kalokairi to help Hange deal with her heartbreak. Occasionally, Hange would invite the locals to perform with her, and the island would break out into a big musical (which never happened until Hange and her friends came along). The island was quiet after Hange had met Mike and her best friends left. Ever since Sasha’s birth, the locals would often find Hange singing those old songs to herself as she strolled around with her daughter. It was a sign to them that the Hange they met was still there, just dormant for now.
Hange stopped dancing once she reached a group of locals sitting around a table playing a board game. She places her boa behind one of the elderly men and lets the boa slide across his shoulders, much to his shock. The Hange he usually saw was too busy with her hotel to start dancing around for fun. Hange then places the boa across her back and on her elbows as she sang.
Meanwhile, Nanaba and Rico were out recruiting some locals to join them. It’s a good thing they were familiar with Hange and her group, or else the whole interaction would have been really awkward.
The group marched across the hotel grounds as the music continued to play good Nanaba’s phone. Hange skipped past the entrance with everyone following her. Nanaba and Rico would occasionally leave to gather more people to join as she led the group through town. Other locals were drawn to Hange’s group after seeing her singing and dancing again. Everyone singing along helped amplify the song, and everyone was in sync.
Hange was having so much fun and was having the time of her life. She skipped and sang as leads the group through different parts of the island. It felt like old times when she used to perform with her friends. Now here she was singing "Dancing Queen" with practically the whole island!
Hange started heading towards one of the piers. At this point, the group had doubled in size. A local piano player and an electric guitar player accompanied the song from their boats. The group stopped moving on the pier and continued dancing and singing to the beat. Everyone followed Hange, Nanaba, and Rico’s lead.
As the final parts of the song started to end, everyone who joined started to face Hange. They wanted her to end the song with a bang. Hange took her hair tie out of her hair and let her hair loose. She whipped her hair back and forth a bit and laughed cheerfully.
Hange came up with a good idea to end her little musical number. She looked to her left as everyone sang the final note to see Rico, who was the closest to her. Hange suddenly ran up to Rico and pushed her into the water. She then turned to Nanaba with mischievous eyes.
"Oh no, you don't!" Nanaba laughs as she attempts to run away from Hange. Nanaba didn't get far before Hange pushed her into the water too. Hange jumped in after her. Thank goodness for the invention of water-resistant cell phones. Everyone else jumped into the water after Hange.
Hange felt much better now than an hour ago. As she trod on the water, she couldn't help but think of her memories with the three men. She has happy memories with Erwin and Mike. She wishes she could say the same for Levi though. Hange felt pain thinking about him although she spent the most time with him. He was the one who broke her heart the most. Yet, swimming in the water reminded her of one time when she took off Levi’s clothes and pushed him off a pier and into the water. Hange's plan backfired when Levi grabbed her wrist to drag her with him. The goofy smile returned for just a slight moment, but it was long enough for Nanaba and Rico to catch.
Nanaba and Rico glanced at each other while treading on the water. Their plan worked for the most part. However, Hange Zoe still had some lingering feelings for Levi Ackerman.

Author’s Note:
The “Dancing Queen” scene was the hardest to write for me. I hope you like it and understand what is going on.
I apologize if any character is OOC and I know I portray Greece inaccurately.
I changed the character’s ages based on the school year in Greece (Sept 11 - June 15). Everyone is 20-21 and Armin is the oldest. Sasha’s bday changed to May.
I appreciate ANY feedback (especially after this chapter). I hope you have a good day, and everyone affected by today’s earthquake is safe.

Life Rant
For the few people in here...sorry lmao this is long as hell.
Lately I've been feeling like...garbage. I know there's no one on this place that really follows me, so this is me posting to the void.
I have been dealing with a lot of health issues related to my mental health and weight. I've gained nearly twenty pounds in a year, and no matter what I do my weight doesn't budge. I work out regularly, Ive been trying to eat better but...my only thought is its because I'm working a desk job now - which I fucking hate with a fury. And I know my weight isnt the end of the world - it just really, really fucks with my mental health. I've always felt ugly. The only time I didn't was when I was super thin which I know is problematic - and I know that's part of my mental health...like my aunt died from an ED. And my mom definitely had/has an ED even if she's gotten much better about it in the past few years...
And I'm finally getting my face to clear up after wearing these masks for a year - a year! But I'm still dealing with the healing process and I'm anxious it will scar. I've worked this entire pandemic at a job I *hate* just to you know, finally pay off my student loans just go back to school so maybe I can do something I love. But even at 25 and providing for myself, I hardly got any financial help. The only thing saving me is my grades that got me a decent transfer scholarship.
But the first school I applied to wanted my high school transcript, even though I have an associate's degree, and because I'm, frankly, stupid I somehow missed that they needed it. So they threw out my application that I spent an otherwise four hours writing for.
So I'm going to Eastern, which frankly will be better for my mental health, but they don't have a tuition free program. So I'm going to have to borrow money after just finally paying off my single year at a liberal arts college debt that I took on when I was 17 (it ended up being like 30k to pay off). And it's all because I didn't fucking read right. So much for being a good student, I guess.
But it wouldn't have mattered because they would've hardly taken any of my classes despite most of them being from down the road and for an associate's degree! And even Eastern is giving me a hard time, despite my degree they say I don't have the basic level biology course - my degree is biology focused! I'm going into ecology! I have taken genetics, conservation biology, anatomy and physiology, cellular biology but I don't have intro bio? So now I have to test out, on top of working full time. Which is fine, its a good refresher...I'm just so overwhelmed with life right now. I have a stack of over 100 flash cards and I'm just anxious.
This is a year after my partner went through an ugly break up with their old fiance (we were poly), and their ex was an abusive POS who once told them if they came out as anything other than their assigned gender, he wouldn't date them anymore. He gaslit them constantly, made them feel like hell. So we finally got out, but he wanted the house they got together or 10k. He made over double what they make - and he always forced them to pay half the bills, including half of his fucking protein bullshit because it was "groceries." He knew they didn't have the funds. Because our friends are amazing, we were able to buy him off but he left the house trashed.
It fucking sucked, and they were also responsible for getting his name off the house which meant a refinance that we could hardly afford. We got lucky we were able to do it, but they hardly got anything back for it. And it was a *nightmare*. We finally got it done, after pulling teeth and it took six months. Four months longer than they said. And that entire time they were forced to occasionally reach out to him, their old abuser.
Finally we were free, but then I started having further issues at work. Between the pandemic, and working in a heavily red area during the election, I cried a lot. I work in customer service and while I make okay money for the industry, I'm constantly burned out. My colleagues are okay, but it feels stupid to leave just to find a job for three months to go back to school. Then I started being short in my drawer (I'm a teller at a bank). The final straw was being short $500. Now I'm on a work plan, and if Im short again, I'm out. And it's my fault. I don't know how it has been happening. So now I'm always on edge at work, triple checking everything. And I could leave, I could get another job but there's no promise I'll make what I do now, and in order for me to pay for the chunk of school I need to, I have to put away a certain amount every month.
I do have a grant of sorts for 5k per semester to help with bills, which will alleviate a lot once August arrives. And I know I'm crazy lucky to have that. So sometimes I feel like such an asshole about it. But we have a house to pay for and bills to pay. Just like everyone else. Ugh, I don't know.
I talked to my doctor about my weight, came in with calorie intake numbers and how much I work out with zero change. I cut out pop entirely from drinking it every day. Nothing has helped. So we switched my meds from Lexapro to Wellbutrin to see if I lose weight because of that. Nope, just having more mental break downs, steady weight, and my resting heart rate is abnormally high, stopping me from making a little extra cash donating plasma. So now I'm switching back to Lexapro with nothing gained other than. You know. Feeling like shit. Next up? Birth control coming out of my arm. Don't really need it anyway. And maybe that will help? But I don't think so. I'm not sure what to do.
I am genuinely trying to be healthy, eating more whole foods. More veggies. More home cooked meals. I love to cook, I'm just tired. And sometimes the air fryer and oven baked frozen foods are too easy to pass up. I'm trying to always eat breakfast. I'm working out again, we have a gym membership but there are so many men there and I dont always feel comfortable, because my partner has been anemic and they can't go yet. So I use our bike in the living room and do home workouts.
But when I did this last time there was zero change in weight or anything. Even when I ate really, really clean for three weeks and worked out for most days, tracking calories and everything. Nothing changed. My thyroid is fine, we've already checked it. I'm just tired.
This past year, other than being with my partner has fucking sucked. And this doesn't even cover all the shit they've dealt with with switching to they/them and a name change. I love them so much, and love that they are finally comfy but their parents were assholes about it. And that matters. It does, and I get it. I just wish I could help them more. I wish we had a break, a breather for longer than a day. Even then I can't relax, I'm too on edge. There's too much to be done. I need to earn money, I need to clean, I need to focus. I need to be productive in some way to justify if I'm not working on those things. It's...all dumb.

AN: This chapter is broken into two parts.
~ Ying Yue Jiang ~
I stood there, arms wrapped around my torso, humming softly as I looked out the window. The crystal waters, waves brushing the shorelines and taking bits of white sand and seashells along with it. A few birds singing as the sun rose.
Nature – it really was a beautiful thing.
A soft wince escaped me, realizing that I was so far into my thoughts, my fingers dug into my skin, causing faint marks to rise. I grimaced, brushing my hair behind my ears before grabbing the cup of hot tea that rested on the kitchen counter.
Usually, the sound and smell of water had my nerves at ease. My heart relaxing, breathing steady. But today, it did the opposite.
Training.
A shaky sigh escaped my lips, teething digging into my bottom as thoughts swarmed my brain. Part of me was thrilled to be practicing once again. But of course, just when I thought I got everything under control – my mind decided to play tricks.
Three years I denied myself.
Three years I mourned and refused to accept a part of me. A piece that I use to love dearly. And I felt guilty. I let horrible, unforeseen circumstances destroy a part of my identity, and the only link I had left with my mom – Waterbending.
Training – it was a word that meant more than just refining my skills. It would be the final steps of me moving on. Accepting the death of my family, recognizing that my role as Imperial Consort is more than just a title. I was moving into a new stage in my life, and while it was exhilarating, it was also petrifying.
I need to do this. Because the past is the past, and now-
A warm touch caused me to gasp, arms wrapping around my waist. The addictive scent of firewood and musk overwhelming my senses as my eyes fluttered shut. My body eased naturally, already knowing this warm touch far too well.
Because the past is the past and now I have Zuko.
His hands wrapped around my own, cupping my tea as his lips brushed against my ear. I could feel Zuko’s heartbeat against my back, a comforting rhythm that had me smiling. I didn’t need water to relax, I just needed Zuko. How things have changed.
“Don’t worry love…I got you.” Zuko muttered, voice coarse from just waking up. He knew. I let a soft sigh escape me, his fingers intertwining with my own as his head moved from my neck to my shoulder.
Zuko planted soft kisses on my shoulder, touches that made my knees weak. “Ready to get your butt kicked?” I teased, only to earn a deep chuckle. His lips curved upwards, his warm breath tickling me. “Mmm, we should place a bet. Make this interesting.”
I raised a brow, looking to my side to meet Zuko’s golden eyes.
His eyes flickered, screaming trouble as he grinned against my skin. I already had a first-hand experience about betting with Zuko. But despite my first-hand experience, I found myself excited to participate in his silly game. There’s a reason why Sokka always babysits me – I’m my own cause of death.
“What will I get when I win?” I kittenishly spoke, Zuko moving his grip from my hands to my hips. The way he hummed to himself as if he was thinking profoundly for an answer. But in a matter of seconds, he jumped, an idea popping into mind.
“Winner gets to decide. Anything they want goes.”
“Why does that sound awfully similar to the previous bet we did.”
“Because it is the same.”
I snorted, shaking my head as I giggled at Zuko’s silliness. I loved his playfulness, and with all the craziness going on, it was welcomed. I let go of the teacup, spinning on my heel only to fall against Zuko’s chest.
His messy hair and a lopsided grin on his face. A faint glow painted my cheeks as I hugged his neck with endearment. “I thought we were supposed to be training, not placing bets.”
“We can make training more fun.”
I raised a brow, hearing the friskiness in his voice. “Fun? I’m pretty sure I got chewed inside out for trying to have fun yesterday.”
Zuko scowled, his head falling into the crook of my neck as he grumbled. I pouted, realizing that he still felt remorseful. “I’m joking Zuko…” I muttered into his hair, snuggling my face into his silky locks.
He sighed, nodding as his lips brushed along the skin of my neck, “I’m sorry.”
“Zuko-”
“You know I care, right? I know I don’t show it but-”
I pulled away, letting my hands fall on his face as his expression deepened. My fingers danced on his lips, shushing him for the time being. “Zuko, I know, and you show it in many ways. So can I please, for the love of spirits, get my good morning kiss?”
His lips pulled from underneath my fingers, chuckling softly at my words. Seeing him smile was the best way to start the day. With a gentle movement, our lips touched, and I couldn’t help but moan into the kiss.
I could feel his hands move up my back, pulling me closer, my fingers tangling themselves with his hair. The way he moved his lips, slow and drawn-out movements, it had my skin heating up and a familiar desire rising. Without realizing, a small whimper escaped my lips, purring out his name as his tongue brushed along my lips.
Zuko smirked, pulling slightly, leaving me wanting more. “Mmm, why do I have a feeling…you want something more than just a kiss?” He teased, his lips nibbling mine. My eyes fluttered open, noticing the way Zuko studied my expression with need.
My blush deepened, his fingers sweeping through my hair, and right as I was ready to indulge in another kiss - a loud resonating knock stopped us both.
Zuko’s nostrils flared in annoyance, huffing as he scowled at the door. So consumed in our mini-bubble, I failed to take in the obvious. The pouring sunlight, the birds chirping, even the faint salty breeze, it was obviously morning. And a knock this early in the morning could only mean one thing.
I walked forward, ready to open the front door for the workers and maids when Zuko gripped my wrist. My back bounced against his chest, a soft thud as his lips brushed my ear, “Tonight, let’s have some fun. Let me make you feel good.” Zuko droned into my ear.
A lively smile played along my lips, humming at his words, “I thought we had a bet going on?”
“Exactly. And since we already know that I’m going to win – I thought I would be nice and give you a little heads up on what I have in mind for tonight.”
I scoffed, snaking my way out of his grasp and turning on my heel.
My nails grazed his torso slowly, feeling that chiselled chest of his under my fingertips, “Sorry to break it to you Fire Lord Zuko. But while I may not be at my full potential, I don’t plan on losing. So a heads up – I want to do a bit of baking tonight, and I think those broad shoulders will do some splendid mixing.”
Zuko laughed, clicking his tongue as he watched me skip to the front door. I swayed my hips with a bit more jazz, a prideful grin on my face. And just as I unlocked the door, Zuko’s husky voice caught my attention, “I can’t wait to see you try to walk like that after tonight.”
My cheeks flushed, and with a final smirk, Zuko walked off to the bedroom.
Answer the front door already Yue!
I hastily fixed my hair, checking myself in the reflection of the windows. Goodness, why do I always let Zuko’s words get to me? I swung the door open, smiling vibrantly as I chirped, “Good morning!”
The maids and workers looked at me with charming smiles as I brushed my hair back, opening the door wide for them to come in and begin their day. They all greeted me with quick bows, waltzing inside in a flash to their errands.
My eyes followed the maids into the kitchen, realizing that I hadn’t made or eaten breakfast for Zuko and me.
“Is there anything you wish to eat Ying Yue?” A maid asked, already placing the cutting board onto the counter, sharpening a knife. She read my mind. I hugged my arms, walking over to the counter, and trying oh-so desperately to forget about the dirty words Zuko whispered into my ear.
“Fire Lord Zuko and I plan on training this morning, do you mind cooking something for us both? It’s doesn’t have to be too heavy!” I spoke, only to get a look of shock in return.
“Train? Now I’m excited to watch that battle…”
I giggled at her words, amused by her reaction, a reaction that I wasn’t expecting.
She began slicing some bread and fruits, noticing my amazement. “It’s just that, Fire Lord Zuko doesn’t take his training lightly. And we’re all curious to see you Waterbend. People talk you know…” She trailed off. The bread began toasting in the oven while she started getting some jams prepared.
I raised a brow, urging her to continue, and with a small laugh, she did. “No one has seen your bend before Ying Yue besides that one time. And truth be told, people have already placed a few bets.”
“Really!?” I skipped, leaning over the counter with wide eyes. The maid nodded her head eagerly, starting to spread the jam on the pile of toast she made. “The great Firebending Master versus a Waterbending Master.”
“What makes you think I’m a master?” I mused, leaning my chin on my hands. The maid raised a brow, putting the finishing touches on the food - garnished perfectly. Fresh fruits, toast with some jam, even a cup of freshly squeezed juice on the side.
With a pointed finger, she slid the plate towards me - eyes blazing with enthusiasm. “Your maids, Lia and Kima, may have spilled a few things.” Her cheeks flushed, looking at the food bashfully before her eyes met mine.
I leaned closer, with a spirited smile, urging her to come closer, “Want to know a secret?” I muttered. Her eyes widen, leaning forward while wiping her hands on the fresh apron she wore. “I’m not just a Waterbending Master.”
Her eyes widen in shock, struggling to understand my words. “What do you mean…?”
I pulled back and winked, “Guess you’ll have to found out during our training session.”
I reached forward, grabbing a yummy piece of toast that sat on the plate. Bringing the portion of food to my lips, the overwhelming smell of sweetness bursting in the air. And just as the sugary flavours grazed my mouth, the bread was rudely ripped from my grip. What the-
My eyes widen, head whipping around to see a grinning Zuko, with no bloody shirt on – of course. He took a great bite of the toast, smirking to himself as he watched me place my hands on my hips and huff. When did he get out of the bedroom? I didn’t hear a thing.
“Excuse me. That was mine, sir!”
“Oh really, because it didn’t seem taken when I saw it.”
“That’s because you took it before I could bite it!”
“And that’s where you’re wrong, love.” Zuko snickered, poking my nose teasingly before taking a large bite out of the meal again. His hair was now put into a messy bun, a complete contrast to his old hair-do. His free hand cheekily gripped my chin, thumb brushing my lip as he beamed, “You see, even if you took a bite out of it, it would still be mine. Because you belong to me-”
“As much as I belong to you, so give it back!” I argued.
My hands lunged forward, grabbing whatever was left of my poor toast. Which was crust... I heard the maids snicker, shaking their heads as they watched us bicker over a piece of toast, “As if a plate filled with toast and jam isn’t sitting on the counter...” The maid grumbled under her breath, but I could still spot that cheeky smile on her face.
Zuko flicked my forehead with ease, laughing as he licked the remaining jam off his lips, and a bit too seductively might I add. I stuffed whatever was left from Zuko’s cruel stealing, grumbling to myself as Zuko seemed to be enjoying himself.
“Get ready love, training starts now.” Zuko hummed, stretching his arms high above his head.
Spirits help me.
The way the muscles in his arms tensed, veins bulging as he stretched all the way down to his fingertips. My cheeks flared, biting my lip as I mentally slapped myself. I was nervous about training, but as Zuko took in a deep breath, chest-puffing before his arms dropped made me realize I had more to fear.
Getting over my hesitance of bending was one thing, but trying to control my hormones with a shirtless and sweaty Zuko was the real test. But what really got me was that lopsided smirk of his. His chin high as he crossed his arms, challenging me. “You ready to get dominated.” Zuko teased, voice coarse.
My eyes narrowed, crossing my own arms, prideful.
I knew the double meaning in that sentence, and today was the day I show him who is boss. I may be cute and obnoxiously nice. But I had an edge. That I grew as a person, and I wasn’t the pushover he met time ago.
I stepped forward, forgetting about the maids and workers around us, as I knew they watched with hitched breaths.
Zuko observed with amusement, the way I strolled to him. I got on my tippy toes, lips grazing against his, before purring, “I’d like to see you try.”
The sand felt odd under my feet. Tiny grains of sand getting stuck between my toes and the thought of a nice bath after this already sounded pleasing. Sure, I was a nature lover – but that didn’t mean I had to enjoy every aspect of nature to it’s fullest.
I was used to training on a flat surface, a surface that didn’t have as much give as now. The blaring heat of the sun shined over us, and out of the corner of my eye, I spotted a few spectators already.
The guards conveniently stood in the distance, trying to act ‘busy’ but I could still see the way their eyes darted back to Zuko and me, observing. The maids, on the other hand, had no shame.
They all huddled together on the porch, sitting as they munched on a few snacks and sipped on freshly squeezed juice. I could hear their giggles and whispers, although I couldn’t make out much, despite them being obnoxiously loud. A few maids gave me massive grins and thumbs up – my cheerleaders.
“Ready to lose love?” Zuko hummed, catching my attention.
And when my eyes settled on him, I swallowed hard.
The sun cast a divine glow over him, making him look like a God. A glistening sheen coated his skin, his toned body appearing ten times more buff. Or maybe his body was already like that and seeing him under the sun like this just made it that more apparent.
“Done drooling babe?”
My cheeks flushed, my mouth practically open as my tongue ran along my lips. And I crossed my arms smugly. Gosh, Yue – you are the farthest thing from smooth.
The way Zuko laughed, eyes almost closed as he seemed to notice me getting all flustered. “If it’s any consolation – you look quite nice yourself. Gives me more reason to win.” He winked.
And while our conversation went unheard by everyone, the maids undeniably saw that wink of his.
They all squealed in delight, and my cheeks just got more red, as if that was possible. Spirits, please have mercy on my soul. My outfit suddenly left me feeling far too exposed. But in truth, if there was one thing Zuko and I shared in common, it was our preference of wearing minimal clothing for combat.
Zuko rolled his shoulders back, a cheeky grin on his face before chinning me, “Warm-up? We can do some start-ups-”
“Hand-to-hand. No bending for now.” I blurted.
Zuko looked at me surprised before his eyes narrowed. And although it was apparent that he was taken aback by my statement, that didn’t stop him from switching his stance. His legs shifted, giving him more room to move, arms blocking his torso - a defensive position.
“Hand-to-hand combat? You think you can take me on?” Zuko mocked, tilting his head to the side.
This time I grinned.
“You seem to forget. Good things come in tiny packages.” I beamed. Zuko scoffed, slightly moving in his spot – getting his blood pumping.
It was a strange sight, indeed. Seeing Zuko getting ready to fight was a common sight, but it’s different when you’re the person he’s going against. Part of me expected to see Sokka, or Toph coming up from behind me, to challenge him.
But nope.
It was just Zuko and me.
“Let’s spare. Take it light. And from there we can see where we go. I don’t want to scare my baby girl.”
My eyes narrowed, my posture switching to an offensive one in a sweeping motion. “You’re going to eat your words.”
“I’m going to eat something alright, but it won’t be words.” Zuko taunted.
His words caused me to wobble a bit, squaring up my shoulders once again. I can’t let him get to me. And while I dealt with an internal battle, Zuko was living.
His posture was loose, not up-tight, nor as firmly planted onto the ground as I’ve seen him do before. The way Zuko let his arms swing in front of him…
This asshole.
He was going easy.
“Well, love, why don’t you make the first move? Amuse me.”
I wasn’t a fool – gullible yes. But not foolish.
Zuko was an elite warrior, and even though he was definitely playing chicken with me, his eyes scanned my figure up and down. Taking into account, every flinch and twitch of my body.
The first move.
Zuko didn’t leave much room for strategy – he could figure me out in a mere second based on the way I lunged. And maybe it was because of his extreme skill of reading body language to predict attacks that made him so in tune with me.
Then it’s decided.
Instinct it is.
My knees bent, feeling the sand shift underneath my weight, and I lunged. Zuko’s legs become rigid, eyes studying the way I dove forward. And right before I reached him, I leaned over, throwing a light under punch towards his face with ease.
Zuko didn’t blink.
He side-stepped with such grace, the sand not moving an inch under his quick steps. For a muscular man – Zuko could for sure move.
I stepped forward, throwing another light punch towards his stomach, and he blocked it with his arms. He caught my wrist between his forearms, jerking me forward before raising his knee towards my abdomen.
With a hitched breath, I moved sideways, just barely dodging his attack before yanking my arm from his grip.
I stumbled a few steps back, catching my breath. And in a few seconds, I dove, re-doing the whole process again. It didn’t take much for the playful smile on Zuko’s face to disappear, an emotionless expression while he studied my every move.
Weaving in and out, our feet moved in a synchronized motion.
Testing and pulling, attacking and blocking. And for the first time in a while, I could feel my blood pumping. My heart pounded in my ears in a thrill, throwing another punch towards Zuko’s face, which he blocked with ease.
But I wasn’t the only one enjoying myself.
Despite Zuko’s cold expression of concentration, he bore a faint smirk. His breathing starts to get heavy as my attacks become quicker. My punches and kicks were no longer soft, delicate pats like when we started.
Sweat beaded down his forehead from the blaring sun, and I knew I was a sweaty mess too, my ponytail swinging as I spun on my heel once more to attack.
But despite it all, Zuko didn’t attack once.
Playing defensively as he let me take swing after swing. My petite size working to my advantage, because while Zuko may be bigger, I was slippery. He eyes watched how my legs moved, and I could read the shock on his face as he realized just how quickly I could travel.
As Zuko dodged an attack, I retreated, only to lunge towards him again from a new angle.
His eyes scanned my feet eagerly, trying to understand my strategy or logic. But that was just it – there was no meaning behind my moves. I was going with the flow.
I lifted my leg to kick his side, but he crouched forward, the muscles in his legs bulging before springing back up, and getting back into a defensive stance. And as he jumped back to his feet, I barely gave him time to recover, shoving my body forward with a punch.
Zuko grunted, lifting his arms just in time to shield himself - my fist coming into contact with his arms. His eyes aligned with mine, ablaze.
“Don’t push too hard love, I don’t want you to get hurt.” He breathlessly spoke, a testing tone in his pitch. My stomach fluttered, hearing his low voice, strained as he tried to withstand his stance against my weight. And with a small grunt, he thrust me forward.
Time to change things up a bit - I twirled around him.
The sand let me slide effortlessness, back rolling in contrast to his arms before I faced his backside. Zuko’s jaw clenched trying to look over his shoulder at me, and I grinned – got him. My arms snaked around his neck, and I jerked him backwards.
Zuko arched back to my yank, the hold I had over his neck taking him off guard. Having him in my neck hold, seemingly surprised by my maneuver had me smiling far to proudly, “I thought you were going to show me a good time Fire Lord Zuko – seems like I’ve got you in a chokehold.” I purred into his ear.
Loud cheers caught my attention, noticing that the small group of guards and maids only grew in size. And unlike earlier, the guards didn’t bother trying to hide the fact that they were watching, fully engrossed in our mini-sparing match. A few of them took off their helmets, spectating our fight, and before I could take in the sight, Zuko attacked.
Zuko spun in my arms, his face suddenly looking down at mine with a cheeky grin; sneaking his arms between mine and forcing my grip to break. I stepped back, trying to re-center myself, but he lunged forward, his hand gripping my wrist and pulling me forward.
My body slammed against him with a loud thud, face in his chest as I gazed up at him with wide eyes. The look on his face, licking his lips eagerly, “I warned you, babe. You wanted rough – I’ll give you rough.”
And at that moment, I knew.
This wasn’t a warm-up anymore.
I flicked my free wrist, feeling the water from the beach storm towards us, and Zuko’s eyes widen, hearing the rushing water.
He let go, jumping backwards as the water surrounded me. My hands twirled, feeling my chi pumping in my blood as the water danced. “I thought no bending babe? Is someone scared that they may lose?” Zuko mocked.
With a flick of his wrists, I felt it.
The heat that radiated from those massive hands of his, fire surrounding his fingers as Zuko grinned.
It was breathtaking.
Something was stunning about Zuko’s flames. They were different. They weren’t chaotic at all but controlled. And despite the bundles of fire in his hands being well contained, the heat the was being emitted was on another level. The water that flowed the farthest from me started hissing, misting away at the temperature. I have to be careful.
This was different than fighting with Kayto.
Kayto was pure strength. But with Zuko, not only did he have the power and the speed, he had the heat. I couldn’t get to close to him unless…
“Ready babe?” Zuko shouted, chinning his head at his flames.
And with a deep sigh, I nodded.
I was ready.
I was going to bend.
And I was going to kick ass.
And a nod was all Zuko needed to sprint forward. He threw his hands together, raising them up high, the flames building in size and intensity. I let the water swirl around me, my arms cross over each other, fingers grazing my skin.
The water began laying along my skin, the outer layer of water hardening to ice, mimicking armour. And as my fingers trailed down my arms, the ice started to get thicker. The ice tampered towards my fingers until it formed into the desired shape I wanted. And with a quick glance, I knew it was built – a sharp blade on each arm, strong enough to pierce metal.
And with that, I sprinted towards Zuko.
He jumped, throwing down a sea of flames with such strength the sand underneath our feet burnt – looking like brown sugar.
And as the flames hurled towards me, I put my strength in my arms, swinging them upwards in a crossed motion.
The sound of water and fire crashing hissed intensely. Mist forming as my blades smoothly cut through the flames, the ice protecting me from the overwhelming heat.
Zuko’s feet planted onto the sand, mouth dropping as he waved the smoke away, “Holy fuck.”
The sound of whistling and cheers erupted.
I turned on my feet towards the house, seeing how the maids all stood and cheered while the guards shot me thumbs up. And as I turned to look back at Zuko, a cold shiver ran up my spine.
Goosebumps rose along my skin, my vision suddenly cutting out as the ground underneath me felt shaky. And just as I was about to stumble forward, everything returned to normal.
What was that?
“Hey, you alright babe?” Zuko shouted, his eyes narrowed with worry. It was then I noticed I was holding my breath the whole time, still as a statue.
I smiled wearily, nodding my head as I got back into a fighting stance, “S-sorry, it’s been a while. I think I overwhelmed myself a bit.” I shouted back. That must have been it. But the more I tried to think about it, the more I remembered this odd feeling. Back when I fought with Kayto…I remember feeling weak. But was it this bad?
“You sure?”
“I’m sure. I have a bet to win.” I pestered, and while Zuko chuckled at my response, I could still spot the way his eyes flickered over me, making sure I was indeed alright. And without giving Zuko a chance to think, I dove.
The flames that Zuko let out returned in a second, punching the air and letting fires soar towards me. With ease I tiptoed, evading and eluding each disk of flames Zuko threw, inching my way closer towards him. And Zuko seemed to notice my preference for up-close and personal combat.
I crouched down as he shot another disk, and in an unexpected twist, Zuko kicked.
Flames came hurdling along the sand where I ducked and with a quick motion the water along my arms hurled forward. The ice formed a sharp triangle, the flames cutting in half around me. And as soon as the fire ceased, I snapped my arms forward and back, the ice returning back to my body.
Zuko frowned, watching as the twin blades formed along my arms once again, closing the distance between us. And I couldn’t help but shoot him a cheeky smile, “You aren’t the only one who enjoys dual swords.”
Zuko’s arms crashed along mine, his flames keeping the sharp blades at by with his sheer force. And while it was easy for Zuko to lower his weight over me, my feet digging into the sand, my ice was sharper.
“You never told me.” He spoke with clipped breath, nudging his head towards the blades. And with a tongue in cheek type of smile, I hummed, “A girls got to have some secrets.”
“Why do I feel like I’ve heard that before?”
And just as the weight of Zuko over me grew, I let my power go.
The ice from my arms melted away to nothing but water, causing Zuko to stumble forward from the lack of contrasting force. And as he sprawled forward, I stooped towards him, shoving my shoulder into his gut.
The grunt he let out, knocking the air out of him as he hissed profoundly. The ice that laid along my shoulder made the impact powerful, and my hands gripped the sand. The water that laid along my arms rushed to the ground, attaching itself to the sand and up Zuko’s bare feet.
Another hiss escaped him, the ice started to freeze over his toes and up his ankles. I lifted my hands off the ground, letting the water freeze while I lunged forward to push him back. All I have to do is get him on his back, pin him down, and I win the bet – fair and square.
My hands gripped his legs, ready to shove him backwards as he grovels in pain, but before I could, my head spun.
The ground underneath me started moving, my vision cutting once again as I sucked in a deep breath. I could feel my stomach up in my throat, and I froze. Not again- I shut my eyes before snapping them open, everything going back to normal.
But it was too late.
My ice stopped shifting, melting away under Zuko’s warm skin. And with ease, Zuko raised his knee, breaking the ice encasement to shards. His foot rose, kicking my chest, and I stumbled backwards.
A dry cough erupted from me, sand flying into the air. My back coming into contact with the warm sand. The force from Zuko’s kick took me by surprise.
I blinked, eyes teary from the sudden impact as I tried to catch my breath, and a heavyweight fell over my waist. The sunlight no longer got into my face. Instead, an overbearing shadow towered over me.
Zuko straddled my hips, his blistering hands gripping my hands with his, fingers intertwined. His chest rose with each pant, sweat beading down his body, and you could hear a faint sizzling sound as our skin touched.
Hot versus cold
Zuko’s hair was no longer in that messy bun of his - cascading over his shoulders. A proud smirk painted on his face as he pinned me down on the beach.
“You almost had me there, if only you didn’t hesitate.”
I raised a brow, “You think you won?”
“I have you pinned love. Now, the things I’m gonna do to you tonight.” He purred, his face leaning towards mine, lips sweeping mine. And while lustful Yue was ready to take the L, my pride screamed no.
I couldn’t stop the coy smile that played on my lips, Zuko gazing at me puzzled, “What are you smiling about babe? I got you pinned, you can’t bend.”
“Sorry Fire Lord Zuko, but master Waterbenders don’t need their hands to bend, we can use our feet too.”
My legs jerked forward, water shooting straight above us into the sky.
Zuko snorted, “You missed.”
“Look again.”
Zuko’s head titled back, eyes like saucers when he began to clue in. The water that shot to the air began to fall above us, and as it got closer to us, my fingers curved around Zuko’s. The water started shifting to ice, the droplets no longer liquid, but sharp jagged shards.
In a heartbeat, Zuko rolled off me, hissing, and I sat up straight.
The ice shards immediately stuck to my body as they fell from the sky. Zuko stumbled back on his feet, shaking his head with a grin as he gawked. “Ice. Fucking ice.”
The flames around his hands re-emerged, and with a flick of my wrists, I had ice shards hovering in front of me.
And as my fingers started to curve upwards, ready to go for another attack, black spots flooded my vision.
Everything started to spin.
A coldness consumed my body, the hairs on my arms rose as I trembled. Everything in my body felt numb.
My knees twitched, my arms falling limp in front of me. The water and ice dropping to the sand. Zuko’s playful smile slowly started disappearing. His forehead pinched, the fire in his hands going as he started running. His mouth was opening as if he was screaming, was he speaking? Why can’t I hear?
I tried to open my mouth, but I couldn’t. It was as if my muscles didn’t work, my brain refusing to send any signals to my limbs.
My eyes rolled back, knees buckling from underneath me.
Darkness.
I don’t…feel good.

Clary Fray Gets Married. (My First Story On Wattpad) My Reaction After 3 Years.
So This story is going to be deleted from Wattpad on 12/18/2020. Due to how messy the story is. But I don’t reccomend reading it. So if you want to read the mess before then here is the link:
Clary Fray Gets Married
Masterlist
One paragraph is a single chapter
So Maia just got killed and Sebastian is back. That's a cheesy line. How would they be able to invite you to the wedding if they thought you were dead. Not that they would anyway. Clary is sacrificing herself for everyone. All these misspellings though, well it was my first story on here and I never edited it and I wrote it on my phone. That was short af. Well my original word count was 500 but later in the story I am pretty sure I switched it to my current 2000.
The incest plotline though, *throws up* I was trying to continue the idea of Sebastian thinking that the bloodline had to be pure. And Clary's pregnant. Jace's pov, the language was the worst in this story. Clary pov. Sebastian wants to make another demon child. Trama. Sebastian is a vampire but a new breed. Mark of Cain?
So we are starting this chapter with Trama warnings. Jace is blood thirsty and I don't blame him. This is the cringest this I've ever written and that's saying a lot. Clary made a run to hurt him. It can't be that easy.
Sebastian told Jace that was pregnant. Jace just cut of his head and he's still alive? These 500 word chapter get annoying fast.
Threatening Alec for Magnus to put up wards. That's one way to do it ig. You want the Infernal Cup too? Now he only wants Jace and Clary there.
Not much happened in this chapter but Sebastian raided Clary's closet from the Insitute.
A protective Jocelyn tho. This language is not how I would write this today.
It's like every other word is F*ck. This is so cringey. This is supposed to be first person pov not whatever you wanna call that. So much flopping back and forth between povs and I didn't make the pov change very noticeable either.
Really you're taking his head off again? Well it gave you time to get away ig.
This conversation feels forced. It doesn't flow right.
Clary is insisting on getting married before Sebastian can screw it up any more.
Magnus calling Simon by his actual name??? How did Jace just pop up like that?
What the hell was going on it that small pov with Sebastian and Lilith? "...revealing his father in a new form." Valentine? Wtf? Yeah it is Valentine and he hates what his son did.
Jace and Clary are finally getting married.
Valentine it pissed at Sebastian. Clary thinks it's halirious that he's a downworlder now. Karma is a bitch. Clary really just stabbed him in throat after he offered to help you kill your brother and Lilith?
Now why is Sebastian so worked up over a missing necklace? And Jocelyn just found out about Valentine and she shookth.
Jace has a half sister? And Luke has a niece? I don't remember this plotline but this story was all over the place.
Who is Lilith gonna bring back now? Carmen Herondale, Jace's sister.
Sebastian and Carmen reunited.
Sebastian never wanted this for Carmen? She's made at him but not for the reason you think. He was going to propose to her the night she was killed? Valentine is the reason she's dead? Clary just killed him.
Carmen is a murderer? And she got away.
I didn't even realize Simon didn't go.
Carmen you touch Alex or Max I will kill you.
He gave her the wrong spell thankfully.
Tessa is dead? The author's note was not it.
Even in a shitty fanfic Max is adorable.
Carmen's adoptive mundane father was a gang leader in Paris? What kind of crack was I smoking while writing this?
Simon compared her to Assassin's Creed. Why did Clary just pass out?
So the kid is basically going to be a full blown angel. Interesting. And the last thing she remembers is taking the pregnancy test?
That is some Twilight shit right there.
Aww Alec wants to propose to Magnus.
Her pregnancy is getting intense.
That line is so cringey wtf. Sebastian is back?
So I kinda remember the person who originally raised Lilith but tbh I regret writing Carmen's charcther because the next few chapter don't make any sense.
Clary's eyes changed colors. I really don't remember writing half of this because I was going through some stuff at the time.
The unnecessary pov switch tho. Clary just made a new Rune.
Magnus may have found a way to make Shadowhunters immortal?
Why would you try a rune on a trash can?
So everyone one agreed to going immortal. That would suck. And there was a rune made with the oil based paint Clary used. This is confusing af. I am sorry to anyone who has ever read this.
Max calls Clary, Aunt Clary. Wtf does he have to be so cute?
More Max being adorable.
Alec and Magnus are engaged. This makes me happy. Sebastian projected himself into the Insitute?
New Character is introduced: Emily Starkweather. Hodge's daughter and Lydia Blackwell's half sister and she hates her.
I made Lydia Blackwell very homophobic because I made Emily bi sexual and that's why they hate each other. Emily is traitor. Sebastian loves her? And is cheating on Carmen with her. This is very confusing. Emily is gonna teach Izzy how to cook.
Raphael got her addicted to Yin Fen. I really mixed The show and the book together. This bitch is lying her ass off to them.
Sebastian and Emily are planning to get rid of Carmen.
She's planning on killing so many people and pinning it on them.
Emily has some Trama TM
She is going to kill her mother.
Lowkey think Jace is getting sus of her. Carmen is dead.
They just found out she's a traitor.
Joyce, Luke, Myrse and Robert are all dead wtf and the baby is coming.
Emily has a good reason to trust Sebastian tho. He did save her life.
Lilith thought she was dead? Who do u think rose you from Edom?
They don't know Carmen id dead yet? Alec ripped into Lydia. Compared her to Valentine. Big ope. Emily is the 3rd Angel experiment.
Emily and Sebastian are planning on kidnapping Lydia. Emily's angel blood is Lucifer's wtf? Emily called her sister a Stupid Ass Bitch and I'm living for it. And she's been kidnapped.
Sebastian just turned her? Ew. The left-handed joke. They summoned Lucifer for some reason.
Emily is absolutely crazy.
So she did kill her mother... I didn't make that very clear. Jace and Alec want them to make Amends so that she doesn't murder Shadowhunters. Sweetie I think it's far too late for that. Lydia is officially dead. How could she be preggers if she's a vampire? And now her mother is still alive? Jocelyn, Luke, Maryse and Robert are alive still too? Emily's mom admitted to everything. I also started going to 2000 word chapters.
Lilith is acting like a bitch, kinda. They are attacking the clave. Lilith summoned a shit ton of demons. The end of the chapter is kinda intense tho.
Raphael? Wtf are you doing here? Hodge? They are testing by mortal sword. This is kinda confusing. Why was this the most read story on my wattpad before Avenging Riverdale?
Flashback scene to when they first met.
Then there was a short chapter. About a prochey
Time skip. The baby is coming. A blue and a black eye? Sebastian's eyes flickered green? Magnus wants to figure how to bring out the Johnathan in him.
Emily plans on making Sebastian stays Sebastian.
That was a shitty chapter.
And I forgot I discountinted it... Sorry about that.
Overall I am happy I discountinted you. It is a horrible book and I am embarrassed by it to be honest. This is my first book on wattpad so I think it's pretty normal but it wasn't my first piece of fanfic. My first work was on Fanfic.net but has since been deleted by the website. I don't know why it wasn't bad at all it was more fluff than anything. But I have decided that I am going to post this and then I'm going to take down the story in a month. I failed to put trigger warnings, failed to edit (to be fair that was back when I did all of my writing on my phone before I had am actual laptop). But I did have some good ideas when it came to the traitor part and Sebastian finding love and I deem this story on crack. So my final rating is a 2/10.

Problems I’ve Been Having With Writing // How I Plan To Fix Them
Before reading this post, consider checking out the Teespring Shop with designs by myself and my friend Alexx, where 100% of the proceeds are donated to the Black Lives Matter organization.
It’s no secret that lately, working on my novel has been a struggle. I used to be able to write entire books with 80k+ words at 14, and now I’m struggling just to hit 10k in a project I’ve been working on for 3 months.
Some of this could be attributed to COVID-19, my crazy school schedule (with thankfully is over now), and my job. However, my main issues are with motivation, self-confidence, and remembering how prose works after over a year of writing only poetry. I did this under a cut because, well, it’s long.
Problem 1 - Motivation, Mental Illness, & Activism
Finding motivation these days is more than just difficult. As someone with chronic illness and also OCD, the urge to do things only when I’m feeling up to them and the desire to have a daily schedule (with writing included) are always at war, and neither of them winning. It’s impossible for me to do the same amount of work every day or week, but also hard to cope with the lack of stability.
On top of that, I’ve been trying using my platforms on social media to promote, donate to, and educate myself on the Black Lives Matter movement. As someone who uses social media (especially Tumblr, with its tagging system) to organize my thoughts on, and hold myself accountable for my writing, it becomes really difficult to manage both activism and writing on my social media - especially when the movements going on are more significant than what I have to say about my WIP.
The solution to both of these problems, as difficult as they are to manage, is finding balance. For OCD and chronic illness, I’m trying to figure out which parts of the day I’m feeling the most energized and motivated so I can schedule my writing around those chunks of time - which I think fall between 10am and 12pm.
For balancing activism and personal social media stuff, it’s a little more difficult. So far, I’m thinking the best way to deal with it is to link my main contribution to the movement so far (mine and Alexx’s Teespring shop) to all the posts that might lean on the personal/writing side, and continuing to uplift Black voices when they come across my dash, and actively seek them out when I have the energy to do so.
By no means will these completely solve the problems, but hopefully they’ll help me find time and energy to write when I can.
Problem 2 - Self-Confidence
Every writer has issues with not believing in themselves from time to time, but lately mine have become overwhelming. This could have something to do with the fact that I can hardly get words down in the first place. My mind has been very stubborn in allowing me to come up with words that flow in a narrative way, and I usually spend a lot longer on one or two sentences than I’d like to.
Similar with that issue, almost all of the writing I read is by, well, adults. Many of the writers I follow on Tumblr are also adults. I’m a month from seventeen, but I’ve always been told that I act or present as a lot older, so I guess I always expected my fiction writing would be as aged and confident as posts like this, my essays for school, and the research I put together for my own purposes. While my writing quality might read as a little older or more skilled than a sixteen year old, it still feels like it’s lacking in quality and like I haven’t progressed at all since my last novel (which directly ties into the next point, but I’ll get there in a minute).
The only way to get over this issue is to write and not stop because I think it’s bad. I know that. It’s easier said than done, of course, but I think that with time and a lot of forcing myself through is going to help.
Problem 3 - The Super Long Break I Took/Poetry
The last time I finished a novel was in December of 2018, so I’ve taken a break that lasted well over a year. I was still writing during this time, but it was pretty much all poetry, besides a few attempts that never got past a few pages and a WIP intro post (sorry about that, everyone).
Basically, I’ve forgotten how to write prose and storylines. That can be re-learned, though, which is why I’m sticking to OITW even though I’m beginning to realize I don’t love writing fantasy as much as I used to (I will still very gladly read it, though).
There’s another problem that came with that one, though, which sort of ties into my issues with confidence in my writing:
Poetry comes easily to me. I hear some novelists talking about their short ventures into poetry and how they would spend forever on a poem and how difficult it was, but that’s not what poetry is like for me. I grew up with my mom, my aunt, and for a short time my great grandma who were all poets. I was always exposed to poetry and felt a deep connection to it, which makes it simple (most of the time) to write.
Plus, due to the internet and me being me, I was exposed to the art of slam poetry when I was 13 (it’s something I daydream about, but my insecurities surrounding my stammer kind of stop me there. Plus I live in the middle of nowhere). Poetry is everything to me.
So you can imagine it’s a little frustrating that I can bust out a contest-winning poem in three minutes but struggle to write 200 words a week when I’ve been writing novels longer. This has honestly been one of the hardest parts of writing OITW - it’s harder than I expected it to be. The words don’t flow like they used to.
Combating this issue, while it’s taken a blow to my confidence, has actually been a little easier than I thought. I have to make myself write, of course, that one’s kind of obvious. But the one that I missed for so long was reading.
I’ve been reading almost nothing for the past year, minus a book I got for Christmas that, surprise surprise, got me inspired to write again. My best friend talked me into reading Carry On by Rainbow Rowell and not only is it awesome, I read the 500+ page book in under 48 hours. I can’t remember the last time I read a book that quick.
I’ve also been slowly making my way through A History Of Wolves by Emily Fridlund, but I think I need to re-start it because when I first started reading it, I was working a full time job, doing 5 classes for school, and struggling with my physical health (more than I usually am).
Reading isn’t going to make my prose read like water or anything, and neither are any of these other “solutions”. However, despite being a lot more easily said than done, I feel like they’re going to help. And let’s be real, I need all the help I can get.
Want to check out that shop but don’t want to scroll for a million years to get to it? Here it is again! We’ve raised over $100 for BLM and plan to continue selling these designs for donation indefinitely, unless we specifically take them down (though I can’t think of any reason we’d do that).

I Remember
As part of my struggle with EoE (Eosinophilic Esophagitis), I was referred to a specialist in Cincinnati. For the first time in a long time, perhaps ever, I was getting the help I needed. It was spoken that I would get a treatment team comprised of a psychologist, dietitian, gastroenterologist, etc. Everyone would be on my side. This was short-lived because insurance refused to cover the out-of-state treatment. I called my local GI and was referred elsewhere. I was not hopeful that they could provide the treatment I thought I’d receive in Cincinnati.
I got more than I expected.
I met with my Gi Specialist, who has experience in treating my allergy condition. I was put on an elimination diet based on what I felt to be my most significant allergens, wheat, dairy, and tree nuts. I would altogether remove those three categories for 1 week and introduce 1 at a time. I started with wheat (inability to swallow, chest pain, throat burning) and was confirmed to be allergic. Again, I removed that category and introduced dairy. I am also allergic to dairy (horrible skin rashes that test my insanity). I partially added tree nuts but was too scared to continue. Now, I simply avoid those things.
Upon finding out about my trauma history, my specialist referred me to a psychologist who specializes in treating patients dealing with complex medical issues. My psychologist would focus on my inability to swallow, connecting mind and body. Our second session was challenging because I felt I failed. She spent the majority of the time assessing my current obstacles and not so much my inability to swallow. I was confronted with this, and she made the decision to refer me to another facility. It was to cover her ass and make sure that my other issues were being addressed so that she could focus on what she does best. I wasn’t being abandoned. I was being helped.
I have now been referred to a facility for the treatment of an eating disorder. My team consists of a psychologist, a physician, and a dietician. My first appointment is with the psychologist, who will do an assessment. I assume the information gathered will determine the route my physician takes.
I’m scared because this is new. I feel as I did when I first tossed around the idea of sobriety. I could not fathom what would happen as I had never been there. Change is hard, especially when the future is unknown. Not to mention, admitting you have a problem. The difference is that I know I have a problem. I restrict, overexercise, and occasionally count calories. I compare my body to others. When I eat too much and feel full, my brain obsesses over the discomfort and how to alleviate it. Should I got for a run? Should I go to the gym? Should I skip meals to cancel it out? I translate full to being fat. When I get weighed, I don’t look at the scale. I only approach a scale on a day when I’m feeling good. I don’t even own one. I don’t like looking in the mirror and often do my make up in the dark (mainly to avoid seeing “imperfections”). I believe having allergies to most foods contributes to my ill thinking. Not to mention, my history of self-harm. If I feel my words are not enough, I will restrict to prove a point. It has been my experience that I am not taking seriously and cannot get the help I need if I simply state, “I am not okay.” However, when I look ill, one is more likely to help. I shouldn’t have to feel that way or go to such extremes.
My brain won’t shut up. I do eat, but not enough. On a good day, 1,500 calories. On a bad day, 500 calories. Considering I live an extremely active lifestyle, I am most likely in a calorie deficit. When in front of a mirror, I can recognize that I am sick, but as soon as I step away, it fades.
The picture below was taken on April 2nd. I am pushing 5′11″ and currently weigh 128.8 lb. I will not claim any specific eating disorder, as my reasons are complex and many. I feel self-diagnosing would hinder the treatment I am to receive. Over the years, my weight has fluctuated, with 126 being my lowest.
How did this develop?
My history of trauma contains incidences of having various things shoved in my mouth. My parents forced medication down my throat when I refused to take it. It deeply saddens me to think that someone would be so desperate to alter the behavior of their child and force medication down their throat. My dad once told my sister to remove her sock, so he could shove it in my mouth because I repetitively said, “No.” My sister and I shared a shower and were allowed some toys to play with. She peed in a toy kitchen dish and threw it in my mouth. My dad shoved a Snicker’s ice cream bar when I was crying too loud that he feared the neighbors would notice. I spat it out and cried louder. He dragged me to the bathroom and shut the door. I saw my reflection in the mirror and didn’t recognize myself. That was not my life. He took a washcloth and shoved it in my mouth, placing his hand over it as he gripped me tight. “You’re gonna be quiet, right?!” I couldn’t answer. I couldn’t breathe. I nodded, and he let me go. I fell to the floor and gripped the bathroom rug at an attempt to self-soothe. I silently cried. On nights when I did not like what my mom had cooked, I did not get anything. If I didn’t finish my food, I was forced to sit at the table until it was gone, and that was hours. If I secretly threw my food away, it would be removed from the trash and put back on my plate. My perception of self was greatly distorted when my mom and older sister teased my twin for having reached 100 lb. She was in middle school. I did not want that to happen to me so I began to excessively workout. Add on top of this, my medical trauma and I have many contributors to disordered eating.
Currently, I have been sleeping through my alarms which has caused me to be late to work numerous times. It hurts to sit in one position for too long, as well as sleep. I have no energy to exercise nor fulfill basic tasks. I often have to lay down until I feel better to do those things. My clothes don’t fit and I have had to add notches to my belt. I am cold a majority of the time and can be found sitting in front of the space heater. I bruise like crazy and sometimes get dizzy. My body has nothing left, but I do the best I can with what I have. Finances aren’t great and this pandemic sucks. I still have an insane amount of hair and have not lost my period.
I am not too far gone and I can be saved. These difficult things I am currently facing, and about to face, are merely blessings in disguise. Help is on its way and I will be right here waiting eagerly to receive it.

Is there anyone you work with that you don't get along with? Why? I'm always civil with everyone, and when I get mad at someone I make sure it’s because they really fucked up on a task, and not just because I don’t like their personality or whatever. I’ve always just felt like butting heads with someone is only going to affect my work, so I try not to clash with people. If I don’t like someone for any reason, I usually just minimize my interactions with them. Have you ever been romantically interested in a coworker? ...Does a classmate count? I started crushing on Gab back in high school lol. Have you ever been romantically involved with a coworker? ^ Same question. Do you have any thoughts on a 14-year age-gap? Not a fan. Age gaps in general scare me away, though I think it’s because I’ve only been with someone of the same age. What is the game you're currently playing most often on your phone? Bitlife. It’s like a simpler Sims.
What is your go-to Starbucks order? MAN OH MAN does this question make me miss coffee shops. I get a grande iced caramel macchiato. I get it as is because having so many customization options just makes me overwhelmed. Do you have any friends that you're drifting apart from? I don’t think so. We all just have to be apart right now but once we can see each other again, I’m 110% sure it’ll only be like we hadn’t seen each other in a day. Are you close to someone who is mentally unwell? I think all my friends aren’t mentally okay to some extent. It’s pretty common in our age group. What phone do you have? iPhone 8. What is the last thing you ordered for delivery? Andrew and I had Chinese food delivered to Skywalk after a particularly brutal verbal beatdown from our thesis adviser who had told us to revise big chunks of our thesis ASAP. I was super stressed so I allowed myself to splurge on the Hong Kong noodles I really liked and I specifically asked for three fucking packets of peanut sauce to drown my noodles in lmao. Do you have an opinion on adopting/purchasing a pet? It’s my preferred way of getting a pet. Adopt and don’t shop, plz. What's your favorite chain restaurant? YABUUUUUUUU. If I reach the point where I only had ₱400 left to my name, I’d still most likely spend it on their katsu. Have you ever dated someone who was of a foreign origin? No...well, Gabie is part Turkish, so kinda? She’s still mostly Filipino though. Have you ever read any of your idol’s books/autobiographies? Out of all the people I fangirl over, only AJ has produced an autobiography and yes, I have her book. Oh I have One Direction’s first book too, but I haven’t been able to buy the next ones that came out. Do you own any succulents? Nope. Can’t take care of plants to save my life. When was the last time you climbed a tree? I’ve never done that, all the trees here have red ants. :/ If you have any pets, how would you describe their personalities? Kimi’s an absolute diva and chooses to follow, listen to, and be sweet with only me. He’ll be super nice when he’s asking for food, but will be quick to stop minding you completely once he’s gotten enough food from you. We give him a pass since he’s a senior dog now, but he’s definitely the snobby type hahaha. What is your phone's background? My home screen is of Hayley Williams; my lock screen is of Beyoncé and Jay-Z on stage. Who played at the last concert you went to? Paramore. Who is playing at the next concert you're attending? I’m really fucking hoping it’s going to be Beyoncé because she’s the only artist left I have yet to see lmao but if not, I’m most likely going to see Paramore again. What's your favorite amusement park ride? I like riding the octopus, but only the one in my high school’s fair. What's your favorite deep-fried food item? Corndogs, for sure. Why were you last pulled over? I got confused with the road rules in Alabang and ended up stopping at a red light albeit over a pedestrian lane. Stilllllll pissed about that instance to this day and I’ve never gotten over how rude the traffic enforcer was towards me. Do you have any friends that own a private lake? I don’t think so, we don’t have a lot of lakes here to begin with. What was the last thing you've done on the water? Take a shower, if I understood this question correctly. Canoeing or kayaking? I kayaked in Palawan when we were there and it was so peaceful and felt like absolute heaven. I’d relive that experience over and over again. What's your favorite lake? Like I said, we don’t really have a lot of lakes here. I don’t even know enough to pick a favorite. Are you cool with swimming in a lake? Sure, why not. Do you have a drone? I don’t. I’m not interested in having one. Do you have a smart watch? Nope. I’d love one but tbh I end up losing every watch I ever try to wear, so buying one would be pointless. What's your favorite hole-in-the-wall restaurant? It’s a bar rather than a restaurant, but Exile was such a fun place to be in. I still don’t understand why they had to close down so suddenly when sooooo many college kids were going there every single day. It’s since been replaced by this random shrimp restaurant, though I think that already closed too since no one ever went there because EVERYONE PREFERS EXILE. It was a very important part of my early college years and it helped me get out from my slump, so I’ll always be grateful that it was around at some point. What do you order from there? I don’t even remember anymore, it shut down two or three years ago. I’ll see if their menu is still up on Zomato... andddd it’s not. It’s like it never existed, sigh. What's your favorite ice-cream flavor? Cookies and cream. They jack up the prices for Ben & Jerry’s here like CRAZY so even though I’ve wanted to try so many of their flavors, I’ve never gotten to try it. I’m not paying ₱500-₱600 for ice cream. Do you have any t-shirts from any local businesses? Yes, I have a couple of shirts from this local business called Artwork. Their employees, who are also artists, produce original designs on t-shirts, bags, pins, shoes, wallets, etc. every week so every time I visit the store, the selection is almost always completely brand new. What is your prettiest friend's first name? Gabriela, hehe. Who is your favorite comedian? Not really into comedians. I like Andy Samberg’s work, but mostly only for Brooklyn Nine-Nine. What's your favorite Netflix series? Queer Eye or Black Mirror, if we’re talking about original Netflix series. Do you listen to any talk shows or podcasts? I regularly tuned in to a morning radio program when I’d drive to school before quarantine started, but that’s it. Do you know anyone who's had their own podcast? Nope, but I have friends and acquaintances who have released other stuff, like vlogs and EPs. Where were you the last time you stayed in a hotel? Cavite. What are you looking forward to, today? Mom bought shawarma so I can’t wait to eat them tonight. What are you looking forward to, in the next few months? For this Covid mess to finally blow over so I can have an actual, tangible graduation and see all my friends again. Are you a dog or a cat person? Dog. Without. A. Doubt. Do you know anyone who is freaked out by cats? Me. They never liked me no matter how nice I am with them, so I can never be around one for more than a minute. There’s only one cat that’s been nice to me – one of the cats that roam around the college, we call him Ginger – but even then, sometimes his claws can get super sharp when we play and it pierces my skin and I get scared, ahuhu. I’m sure cats are super nice and that they make for great pets, but we just can’t ever bond lol. Do you know any with Crohn's disease? No.

what if we ...... pretended this was a good intro ..... aha just kidding ..... unless ? i was just gonna link to all my stuff but ... ur girl wrote a lot and i don’t wanna be cruel and force u all to read everything JDBWBDJBWJ so here we go !! <3
( VENUS, PARK SOOYOUNG, CIS FEMALE, SHE /HER ) guess what, EVANGELINE RHEE has just landed in cannes with their private jet. they are a TWENTY-TWO year old socialite, who spends much of their time & money UPDATING THEIR SKINCARE ROUTINE. i think their family is in the ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY and their net worth is around 10B USD.
first things first ... i’m gonna drop some links in case u want to read everything i wrote at 6 am the day the submit closed bc im stoopid like that <3
here u can find her full bio, stats, extended stats, and hcs ! the hcs are definitely the most fun to read so i recommend going to that page hehe
into the summary we go !
BACKSTORY: suicide mention tw
eva’s dad is a movie producer and her mom was the beautiful woman he met at a train station <3 her parents had a very whirlwind romance, very love at first sight, very passionate and intense type of relationship literally everything you see in hollywood ? they had that ! they got married after only a year of knowing each other and had eva soon after
thats when things got not-so-picturesque /: after having eva, her mom entered a pretty dark depression. eva’s dad ( who had been aware of his wife’s mental health and even warned by her family against doing anything crazy like getting married and having a whole baby so fast ) was kinda in denial about everything. eva’s mom still had her good days, but the bad days were really bad & when eva was only two years old her mom had an accident & passed away
so while eva’s dad was grieving, he sent little eva to new york city to go live with her grandma !! eva adored her grandmother more than anyone else. she was a retired jazz singer, and a lot of what they did together was sit around and listen to old records <3 eva lived with her until she was five years old & that’s pretty much the only childhood she can remember since her mom died when she was so young !!
when her dad brings eva back to france, he’s doing a lot better. he’s back to producing movies and throwing parties and being a part of society again ( things he had stopped while he was grieving for his wife ) and he even found his own form of “medicine” which was simply the company of beautiful women ! most of them were young actresses he met through his work, all of them were gorgeous, and they all adored little eva <3
eva adored them right back ! they taught her stuff she imagined all mother’s teach their daughters: how to dress well, how to smell nice, how to get people’s attention, what makeup to wear, how to do your hair, how to speak so everyone hangs on to your every word, etc. she was still a little girl but she was absorbing all these lessons like a sponge, & it’s a big part of why she’s so obsessed with her own femininity and why she’s got this mindset about being beautiful inside & out in order to feel balanced.
none of the women her dad brought home were ever at her house for more than a week. her father, who had been a notorious bachelor before eva’s mother, seemed incapable of falling in love again. that was his first and maybe only lesson to eva, which was how to break hearts, which is something else she absorbed & carried with her as she grew up
as eva grew up, she kinda became obsessed with trying to imagine what her mom had been like. no one in her family liked to talk about her, especially not her dad, but she knew she looked just like her and she was kinda always trying to fill in the blanks. but then one christmas her dad let it slip that her mom’s death hadn’t been an accident at all, that it had been on purpose. that was kind of the turning point for eva & she just kind of....stopped trying to re imagine her mom after that just kinda wanting to let her rest /:
she also went through a phase of doing stuff just because she could. she’d flirt with people’s boyfriends, she’d make strangers fall in love with her, she’d date people just to break up with them suddenly, etc. she kind of realized just how much she could get away with, but more than that, just how far people would go when they fell in love. she was obsessed with that, but also kind of jealous of those people just because she’d never felt that kind of soul shattering love for someone before and she really does want to </3 while she’s never been in love before, and while she does get bored of lovers easily, she still feels a type of attachment that is sometimes so strong she’s not willing to let the other person go even if she’s being selfish by hanging onto people she can’t get serious abt /: thats just life sometimes......whore rights !
FUN FACTS , PERSONALITY, AND TIDBITS: whore antics tw
goes by eva, never evangeline. her grandma has always called her angel, and so that nickname has also carried over naturally
libra sun AND moon babey ! read abt it here
wears euphoria makeup to do groceries
moved from paris to new york city for college to attend columbia university. double majored in english literature and business management.
created what she called the “manhattan group” in reference to the bloomsbury group, which was a group of associated english writers, intellectuals, philosophers and artists in the first half of the 20th century ( that included writers like virginia woolf ) duringher freshman year. although meetings were supposed to be about discussing literature, it mostly became a place to drink warming champagne, flirt, and gossip. eva hosted the events & meetings off campus inside her loft. the manhattan group only lasted her freshman year though, as rumors of all the underage drinking and “cult-like behavior” persuaded her to drop it. that, and the fact that more than one member had fallen in love with her and things were getting quite tense.
she never carries a lighter because she likes the way more than one person will offer her one if she asks for a light <3
it’s a famous rumor that eva once spilled her drink on her chanel mini-dress at a charity gala and stripped down to her lingerie in front of everyone. it would have stayed a rumor if it wasn’t for the instagram story that went up of her only her underwear.
she has a house phone in her nyc loft that only a select few people ( minus the strangers she’s given the number to while drunk ) know the number
has a three year old black cat named june that she brought with ehr to cannes <3
is the proud owner of a black maserati despite being an infamous bad driver. no one in their right mind, especially not her friends, would ever trust eva to drive.
it’s rumored she once snuck onto the yacht of a ceo to a fortune 500 company, only for him to find her in nothing but a bath towel eating chocolates while flipping through his playboy magazines, and that he was so taken with her instead of pressing charges he decided to name the boat after eva.
once spent a whole day walking around paris in a cheap pink wig and calling herself yvette. nobody could figure out why. eva often pulls stunts like this on a whim.
believes 2 is an unlucky number and is very superstitious about it, as that is the year her mother died. fully believes her twenties are cursed and is actually looking forward to the day she turns 30 just to escape the 2′s.
leonardo dicaprio once made a pass at her during the after party of a movie premiere she was attending.
during full moons, eva always has sex with the windows open. even if it’s winter, a window will be cracked open. this is one of her many personal superstitions.
has a collection of old love letters, mixtapes, and presents past suitors and secret admirers have gifted her. while she cannot remember the origin of quite a few of the objects in her collection, she is attached to them still.
owns a replica of the famous cross necklace filled with cocaine that kathryn had in cruel intentions.
literally i basically just copied most of my hcs page im a clown i cant do summaries...
ok so personality wise ? shes a flirt. a whore, if u will. yes thats a personality trait now. literally if ur breathing shes flirting doesnt matter who u are doesnt matter if ur married if u have 10 kids doesnt matter like she will flirt....does not know how to open her mouth without flirting

Gisaengchung (Parasites) [SPOILERS]
A lovely tale on why you shouldn´t trust people!
Sinopsis:
A family barely subsists in a basement they call home. Unemployed and at the border of misery, a job opportunity is presented to the older son Gi Woo, which consists on giving english classes to the daughter of a high class family. Step by step he gains the trust of the owner and begins to introduce his own family as workers in hopes of getting more money from them.
Writing and characters (+some acting):
I am not very familiar of Korean movies, I´ve heard about some good movies but never actually watch any from the country. Now, I´ve heard about Bong Joon-Ho since I watch one of his previews works called Snowpiercer and even though that kind of movie is not exactly my favorite I have to admit it was really well written and the visuals were really creepy but pretty in some twisted way.
Gisaenchung´s story is really well thought, all the details fit together like a puzzle of 500 pieces or more. It had to be meticulously written so to make some sort of sense and even then some things dont make so much sense, but Joon-Ho has a cover: this movies is a drama, suspense and dark humor movie. When you have a super dramatic rich family with their over the top reactions and mannerisms in an only drama movie it would be seen as a joke if they were trying to look serious or be taken seriously, in this case works perfectly since they are used as comic relief, specifically the rich mom being the most gullible and most dramatic of all. Their purpose is accomplish perfectly and the sheer dumb and naive nature of the mother works in favor of our bunch of vermin.
It is a very understandable and digestible plot: you have a poor family of scammers, they get an opportunity to scam a family, they proceed to scam the rich family by pretending to be strangers to each other and working as a house keeper, a driver and 2 teachers, and then they get discovered. At the simplicity it doesnt sound that entertaining I suppose, everything in between is simple yet complex and then it goes into fucked up territory almost from 10 to 110 really quick.
This family are assholes! Like... Complete assholes, the name of the movie is after them! They take advantage of a character that is super anxious about her children and is super naive and is really lonely because of his husband leaving for work a lot and completely destroy 2 lives in the process too! They get the husband´s driver fired by framing him as a sex addict with a kink and the housekeeper is fired by making her look like a tuberculosis patient. This people are awful! They are manipulative, dangerous, assholes! And yet... you kind of root for them? That´s how good the writing is. You know they are awful, you know they are manipulative. Hell, at the beginning they use manipulation to probably get someone fire and get money from a small pizza company they work for as box benders. AND THEY FUCKED UP AT LEAST A QUARTER OF THOSE BOXES! They are not good!
...But who can blame them for being like that? They are living in a really bad situation, they are stealing wifi from a neighbor so they can check a WhatsApp to see if the pizza place send them a message. They were talented at sports, the daughter knows how to work with programs like photoshop and probably other types, the son is really smart reason why he was given the job as an english teacher and to be honest he is kind of good at it. They are not lazy people. The situation is not good for them and they can´t exactly get a good job due to not having a degree. It´s actually kind of sad to see their potential being wasted due to their economic situation. Of course anyone would survive in however manner they can, even if that makes them a bad person in the process.
You have a rich family that supports and loves their children, shown as getting both of them private ¨teachers¨ (not enough love I guess, due to not fucking checking this people up in the first place and only trusting the recommendations of a college student). They aren´t bad people, they treat their workers fairly and they respect them and when there´s reason to fire someone they try to do so respectfully as not to damage their reputation or shame them (so much). You should feel sorry for them because they are so nice and are being scammed but you can´t shake the feeling that they kind of deserve it for being so naive. Well, at least not the children, those kids have 0 control over who their parents choose. THE PARENTS ARE SO DAMN DUMB! The mother specially! So anxious about your children learning and exploiting their talents but not so anxious to get the first whoever that crosses your ears? You feel bad, for them and maybe you dont get angry, they antics are not anger inducing, they are hilarious because, as i explain before, they over react A LOT. I don´t know if that was a directors decision or if the actors did what they pleased, they fit too well in the scene to not be planned.
One thing that stood out to me were the dialogues, they made sense but they became a bit descriptive in certain points. There were really good silent scenes, there was a good balance between dialogues and silence, though I don´t know why I felt certain dialogues were too much? Maybe it was with their reactions as well, Korean and older Mexican movies have a thing in common and that´s a level of exaggeration. Sometimes it´s good, sometimes it gets the spotlight and not in a good sense. With the rich family there was no problem, it was with certain characters like the daughter of the scam family that overreact in one scene. Since they were drunk it kind of made sense but it there wasn´t exactly a follow up of his outburst. it passed relatively quick so it wasn´t much of a problem.
Sound and music:
The dialogues were well said, there was no difference in volumes and it had no noise. The silent parts had a good sound, whether it was background noises or music, it never felt out of place. The sounds were actually relaxing at some point, specially with the rain or water flowing. It had a good crispiness on them, they sounded natural and not manufacture with materials. The music wasn´t over used or overbearing, it was mostly in the background. It wasn´t almost present in certain scenes, you could hear it but it was very low. It didn´t had weird spikes and it was kind of nice. Not exactly the most memorable.
Photography and art:
First... Some examples:
I mean... WOW. The different lights, the shadows, the colors, the difference in lighting from each set. EVERYTHING IS GORGEOUS. Easily identifiable, with that I mean if you see this screenshots you would probably recognize them immediately. I don´t know how original the setting is from other movies but MAN is it gorgeous. The shots are most of the time open, details are hidden in the background (even when they can be a bit blurry, sometimes there something behind), the lighting is the first thing you´ll notice. There´s so much contrast between the highlights and shadows, even though most of them are not really strong.
The colors schemes for each place are not entirely different, I think the reason is they wanted to portray that both families have certain similarities, mostly the only difference being the living situation. It´s really interesting how you can find warm colors in both families, they all love each other, both families support each other and their interests. The parents praise their children (even though the scam family probably shouldn´t praise illegality but, meh...at that point it can be consider too late)
The art department went OFF with this one. You can feel the filthiness and close space they live in, their living situation is bad but they manage. The other family is clean and clear and it has to be perfect that way. I think there were 2 parts where they work even harder.
(This is a kind of Spoiler for the end) When they use blood, it tends to look fake in some movies, in here it looks really, really red and dark. The makeup for the strangled neck also was a nice touch and look really good.
The other part I think was really well accomplish and that also might have taken FOR EVER TO MAKE IT WORK, was the flood, because it not only involved flooding and ENTIRE NEIGHBORHOOD, it involved a toilet spewing black water out as if it was puking. How did they manage to do all that? HOW MUCH WAS THE BUDGET? Geez, How many TAKES TOOK TO ACCOMPLISH THAT?! It look hella gross and the way it was spewing water was very realistic.
There´s an entire sequence where three members of the family gets out of the rich house and walks towards their home and each step they take they descend even more, but that´s not all, it is raining and water is flowing and pouring, it looks fantastic and the neighborhood gets flooded and there´s stuff out getting fucked over. The makeup and the art design were crazy here, I wish and hope and pray they got paid well because MY GOD this was hard work at its finest.
Conclusion:
I need to watch more of this foreign movies and so do you! If you haven´t seen any movie out of Hollywood, you should do so. Maybe this one is a bit too much though. It goes well but there are certain parts that are a bit slow and then it goes fast and then slow again, it can be a rollercoaster and I´d be lying if i wasn´t expecting the movie to finally end. It is entertaining and it isn´t that long (2:12 hours), it doesn´t have any popular references. This movie was thought to be seen by an international audience. If you as an USA Citizen (´cause I´m not calling you Americans, America isn´t a country and USA is not the center of it) feel uncomfortable to be shown or for your culture be mock, well TOO BAD GET USED TO IT! Nah, I´m kidding. The kid in the movie has an obsession with indians and the family acts like USA is like high standard but in a mocking kind of way? My brother actually thought it was a Get Out situation so...
This movie has a perfect blend of suspense and humor, the drama is palpable, it is there, the suspense and dark humor are the spotlight though. The actors are really good and the dialogues are not complicated to follow. It is pretty funny, heartwhrenching at points (specially the end) and entertaining movie, if you want to start watching foreign films you could start with this one.
The worst part of the story is that both sides are right to react the way they did, and it´s kind of sad.
This is what I took from it: Poor or rich, it doesn´t matter. People are humans and they all have needs. And those needs will be satisfied one way or another. When you have a family, You will do whatever it takes to make them happy and sometimes drastic measures will be used.
Go watch it, you won´t regret it.
-Sincerely creeped out, T.O.D

Book Six: The Dead Zone
“We all do what we can, and it has to be good enough... and if it isn’t good enough, it has to be. Nothing is ever lost. Nothing that can’t be found.”
When I announced my next book was The Dead Zone, my brother-in-law admitted to never reading it, or seeing the movie, because it felt dated. He’s not wrong. The 1983 movie felt dated when I’d watch it in the 1990′s. But that didn’t stop me from imagining Christopher Walken during the entire book. So, here’s some cowbell for your Tuesday! Sorry, I’m home with a sick kid, doing training for my job, I need to find joy where I can.
youtube
But The Dead Zone is still eerily important. I need to stop reading Steve’s books... it’s too much... first I picked up The Stand during the Coronavirus outbreak, and now I’m reading about shitty politicians during a particularly shitty election season.
Who hasn’t asked themselves the question... “If you could go back in time and kill Hitler- would you do it?”
Being a disciple of Ray Bradbury, I’d have to answer probably not. I read The Sound of Thunder during my formative years, and it hit hard. I’m also a disciple of Steve, and 11/22/63 taught me what a world where Kennedy hadn’t been assassinated looks like. And that fictional world is bleak, my friends.
Let’s get into it, shall we?
When Johnny Smith was a little boy, he was ice skating, and had a nasty fall. This fall gave him mild psychic abilities. A teeny bit of The Shine, if you will. Fast forward to grown-up John, he’s a teacher and living in the quaint town of Cleaves Mills. To keep the quaint theme going, he’s about to take Sarah, a fellow teacher, to the county fair on a date. Presh, I know.
Now... this is when the book just becomes one big homage to Ray Bradbury. The county fair is straight out of Something Wicked This Way Comes; which Steve actually references at one point. The manic laughter, the spinning rides,, the smell of carnival food, and the feeling of something evil lurking just under the surface is all there. It’s a masterful tribute.
On their way out of the fair, John stops and decides to try his luck at a Wheel of Fortune carny game. You know... the type of game you never actually win at. But his Shine comes into play, and he ends up walking away from the game $500 richer (three weeks salary according to Sarah!). But Sarah suddenly feels sick. She blames it on a bad carny hot dog, but I’m pretty sure The Shine is wafting off John like a noxious fume, and she inhaled too much of it. John gets Sarah safely home, and takes a taxi back to his apartment. Well, tries to take a taxi back... the taxi ends up crushed by some hoods out drag racing, and John ends up in a coma for four and a half years.
Yes.
Four and a half years.
I’m not smart enough to do the math and adjust for inflation; but can you imagine what hospital bills for four and a half years worth of treatment must look like? I mean, I’d almost rather they pull the plug on me. It would be less painful than waking up and finding I’m going to be broke for the rest of my life.
John’s parents Herb and Vera are thrilled he’s awake. Vera is cut from the same kind of crazy culty-religious cloth as Margaret White (Carrie’s mom); and believes there’s a holy reason why John is still alive. John needs to have some painful surgeries to have his leg muscles stretched (because, atrophy is a bitch after four and a half years in a hospital bed); and then some spooky shit starts happening. John has discovered he can touch someone’s hand, and learn all kinds of interesting things about them. For example, he touches the hand of Dr. Weizak, and informs him that his mother didn’t actually die in a concentration camp, she’s alive and well in California. Then, he freaks a physical therapist out by telling her she needs to call the fire department, her apartment is on fire. The news media gets wind of John’s new powers, and they start relentlessly hounding him.
While still in the hospital, he gets a call from Herb, letting him know Vera has had a stroke, and is in Cumberland General Hospital (you know, just above Jerusalem’s Lot). So, Dr. Weizak rushes him to the hospital, and Vera tells him a voice will tell him what to do, and she believes in his higher purpose. Then she dies.
Oh, Vera. She’s had a fun life. At one point, she was a member of The American Society for Last Times. “They were led by Mr. and Mrs. Harry L Stonkers from Racine, Wisconsin. Mr. and Mrs. Stonkers claimed to have been picked up by a flying saucer while they were on a camping trip. They had been taken away to heaven, which was not out in the constellation Orion, but on an earth-type planet that circled Arcturus. There they had communed with the society of angels and had seen Paradise. The Stonkers had been informed that the Last Times were at hand...”
I laughed so hard, because of course the crazy cult leaders were from Racine. I worked for a company based in Racine for several years, and one of my co-workers was of this same kind of crazy religious bend. He told me “my lifestyle” flew in the face of what God intended. For the record, my lifestyle was being one of those crazy, new-aged career gals, with a stay-at-home husband raising our two year old. It’s easy to understand what’s so offensive about that.
But the worst part was when this co-worker decided to “treat” his teenage daughters to a home-schooled prom. He rented a limo, ordered flowers, made dinner reservations... and was their date. But no dancing of course, because... religion. When I relayed this story back to my husband later on, he asked me which daughter was going to end up getting lucky on prom night with dad. Ick.
So yes, cult leaders in Racine- 100% believable.
After Vera’s death, John continues his life, living with his dad, healing from his horrible leg muscle surgery, and he even keeps in touch with Sarah, even an ill-advised hook-up for final closure. People keep sending him letters and trinkets, hoping he can help them find lost objects, or solve mysteries. He’s not having it. He just wants to go back to teaching, and lead a “normal” life. But alas, there is this nagging voice (it belongs to Vera) telling him he was awakened from his coma for a reason. He needs to serve a higher purpose. So, he ends up going to Castle Rock, Maine; and helps the sheriff solve a series of murders. Castle Rock is a fun place, FYI. They have a Flagg street there.
After his face is splashed across the tabloids for helping solve the murders, his school district doesn’t want him teaching anymore, and his life has little purpose. After a few years of moping around on his dad’s land, he ends up tutoring young, charismatic, Chuck Chatsworth; and uses his Shine to help Chuck get around the dead zone he has with reading and comprehending text.
A note about “the dead zone”... it’s a term John uses quite a bit to describe the gray area he can’t quite see through/around when he’s holding someone’s hand and telling them something important.
John gets on super well with Chuck’s dad, Roger. One night they’re watching tv, and Roger can’t stop talking about this political wildcard, Gregory Stillson, who is running for a House seat. “The man is a clown. He goes charging around the speaking platform like that at every rally. Throws his helmet into the crowd- I’d guess he’s gone through a hundred of them by now- and gives out hot dogs. He’s a clown, so what? Maybe people need a little comic relief from time to time. We’re running out of oil, the inflation is slowly but surely getting out of control, the average guy’s tax load has never been heavier... So people want a giggle or two. Even more, they want to thumb their noses at the political establishment that doesn’t seem able to solve anything...”
John keeps working for the Chatsworth family, and helps get Chuck into Stovington Prep... yes, the same Stovington Prep as in The Shining. At one point, Chuck is talking about his English teacher, “I like him a lot. Our teacher told us he still lives over in N.H. but has given up writing. That blows my mind. Why would someone just give up when they are going great guns?” I’ll let you draw your own conclusions, but I’m 87% sure his teacher was one Jack Torrance.
In the meantime, Stillson wins his election. And John endears himself further to the Chatsworth family the night of Chuck’s graduation, when he has a vision of a fire at Cathy’s restaurant; where a lot of families planned on going to celebrate. John pleads with people not to go to Cathy’s. Some listen, others don’t, but he does end up saving some lives. And then he becomes a recluse, fixated on Gregory Stillson.
Stillson is a bad dude. He’s done a lot of shady shit, and he’s had a lot of people killed. He also worked in real estate development for a while. Smirk.
He knows he needs to take Stillson out before he becomes President, and gets the country pulled into another war. “I have to do something about Stillson. I have to. I was right about Cathy’s, and I’m going to be right about this. There is absolutely no question in my mind. He is going to become president and he is going to start a war- or cause one through simple mismanagement of the office, which amounts to the same thing.”
Oh, how quaint... when the biggest fear is the President starting another war... not the President getting us all killed by nuclear weapons. But, this book was set post-Vietnam, so the feeling is honest.
John goes to a rally, and hides on the upper balcony, hoping to shoot Stillson. He gets a couple shots off, before Stillson grabs a baby to use as a shield (yeah... really...), to prevent John from shooting him again. John ends up shot by Stillson’s goons and he dies, but so does Stillson’s political career, because of a photo showing him using the baby as a body shield. So, his mission was mostly carried out. We also find out John had a brain tumor, which may or may not have caused his abilities.
So, yeah. That’s The Dead Zone. This was a long review for a really short (by Steve standards) book. But it was fun because there were so many references to his previous five books. And yes, the book was published in 1979, but I feel it still holds up. And it has me wondering how/if Trump supporters would explain away Trump using a baby as a shield. I mean... the man has done far worse than that and has still been elected, so....
God damn, I really did not intend for this blog to become political, but here we are! Welcome to the new climate around election season!
There was one lone Dark Tower reference, “He opened the paperback with the picture of the gunslinger shouldering his way through a set of saloon batwings...”

Status update!
Hello! Alley here, finally!
You may have noticed I’ve vanished from the face of the earth lately. In case my terse and sporadic update posts aren’t enough to tell you why I’ve been so inaccessible, I think it’s about time I give you something to explain what I’ve been doing, and maybe even a promise to come back online sooner rather than later. (But it’s gonna get a little long, so I’m throwing this under a cut. I apologize to those of you who can’t see it.)
As most of you know, I’m in my last semester of college. More importantly, I’m so far along in said last semester that I literally just have to take one final a week from today—the day before graduation, actually—and then I’m home fucking free after five years of torment!!!
Anyway, the whole semester has been super busy, what with holding down an internship and three classes all required for graduation (and that pressure has been real). One of those classes was “Math and the Human Imagination”, which unsurprisingly involved analyzing imaginary numbers. I’m ashamed to admit that despite my favorite professor’s best efforts, the course did absolutely nothing to help my understanding of mathematics. Another of those classes was “Bollywood and Globalization”, which is the one in which I still have a final. I have hopes that I’ll do well, if only because I’ve enjoyed the course enough to pay attention.
The last class was my “Senior Synthesis”, which purports itself the crowning experience of a Liberal Studies major, in which you can basically do whatever the fuck you want as long as you can present it to the class in the form of a speech/slideshow, a poster, and an essay. Because there are roughly three things I care about, I chose one of them and had an unironically marvelous time drawing a bazillion connections between BTS’s Bangtan Universe and Hermann Hesse’s Demian. I was scheduled to present in the first possible week, in mid-April, and spent 24 total hours out of the weekend before pulling together my presentation (because I’m broken and think that’s fun—I’d have spent just as much time on it even if I hadn’t had to for the project). As part of it, I made a six-minute video you can watch here if you like, which showcases some of the specific connections I examined.
Speaking of BTS in conjunction with April, though, that brings me to their new album. And can I just say, holy shit. I still wasn’t over “Intro: Persona” by the time the whole thing dropped, so every time I listen to the album, I’m shook all over again to this day. Thanks to timezone shenanigans, my mother the ARMY had me wake her at 1:45am on April 12 so we could be awake for the festivities. We saw the “Boy with Luv” MV the moment it came out… and then proceeded to watch it with and without subs about five times. While that was going on, I bought Map of the Soul: Persona on iTunes the second it was available and burned a CD. After that, my mom suggested going out to a deserted parking lot and blasting it in the car so we could enjoy it at a decent volume, since we didn’t want to wake the neighbors. So we did, and let me tell you, hearing “Dionysus” for the first time at full volume in the dead of night can’t be beat. That whole adventure is a memory I’ll cherish forever.
There have been a lot of those lately, especially in conjunction with BTS, and this brings me to how absolutely insane this past week has been. I’d like to lead into last weekend by stating in no uncertain terms that I owe @lightningswrath my very life for managing to land us tickets to not one, but both BTS concerts at the Rose Bowl this past weekend. They were both indescribably beautiful, though the second one in particular was perfect—not least because I actually remembered to eat that day, so I was no longer trying to process overwhelming emotions on an empty stomach. However, the experience wasn’t as surreal as I expected; I did feel elevated, but also oddly grounded. Despite their awe-inspiring stage presence and sense of showmanship, the members are also so genuine as people that I couldn’t help but accept their presence in front of me.
(Incidentally, if you’re an ARMY and haven’t looked up Namjoon’s speech on 190505, please do; the man is a true sage and I feel incredibly honored to have heard such profound words in person. The only reason I didn’t record it myself was because I was so absorbed in the moment.)
Alas, every silver lining has its cloud. This past weekend has given me an unforgettable set of experiences in the best way, but I am most definitely suffering the consequences of not being able to do any schoolwork. We couldn’t leave until after my class a week ago, and we had to come back early enough on Monday that I could make it to my last math class and explain two chapters of a book I didn’t understand. On Tuesday, I had to attend the last day of my internship and then design and construct a poster, which I finished on Wednesday morning before completing a three-page evaluation of my math class—which was supposed to have been due on Monday, but I completely spaced it out—and then presenting my poster.
But That’s Not All. Yesterday, I wrote and turned in another three-page evaluation, this time of my internship, before immediately heading home to work on my synthesis essay, which was supposed to be 15 pages. Thankfully, I actually enjoy writing about all the crazy-detailed connections between BTS and Demian, but I still only finished it in the nick of time today (at a whopping 24 pages, not counting the works cited, because I can’t be brief when I’m busy being passionate) before heading to class. I had just gotten home from that when I started writing this post, and I’ll have to leave in another couple hours to go out dancing with some friends. After that, as mentioned, I only have one final left, and then I’ll have a degree in Liberal Studies with an English minor.
Which begs the question several people have already asked me: what next?
Thankfully, my internship has provided me with a ready answer, because they decided to ask me to come in as a paid part-timer over the summer! So I can at least tell people I’m going to be continuing my foray into the field of editing and publishing. But aside from career-related stuff, I also have a lot of things I’d like to do now that I won’t have academia weighing me down anymore. Enough that I can honestly make an entire list of… uh, goals? wishes? for the rest of the year:
Finish some of my ongoing fanfiction
Work on some of my original fiction
Find more time to write and post in general
Dance more often (and learn some BTS choreography)
Get into more K-pop (VAV, Monsta X, SHInee, etc.)
Help my mother sell stuff on eBay and pay back the $500 I owe her
Buy more BTS albums/merch and FFXV’s Episode Ardyn
Play and/or replay more video games, esp. otome
Plan my move up north with @chibitorra
Move all my stuff out of my dad’s house
Sort through everything I own and get rid of half of it
Pick up my Japanese studies again
Maybe start learning Korean???
Watch more Bollywood films
Read more Hesse, Jung, and Nietzsche
I also intend to resume some of my online activities and become more socially accessible again, but I doubt I will ever be as active or consistent in any fandoms as I once was, although I hope to compensate for this by writing more for them. Given that my former fever-pitch of online activity was born of a desire to escape reality, and by now I’ve finally found more of a place in the real world, this is most certainly for the best.
Anyway, that’s the tale of where I’ve been, where I am now, and where I’m headed next! I hope that gives you something to work with if you’ve been curious about what I’ve been up to. Thank you so much for reading, and I hope life has been kind to you too!
