there are many things you can do with ocs! some ocs are simply not suited to complex plots: some worlds are better for short stories centred around a one-off character. some ocs are good for dating sims or esoteric psychological horror rpgmaker games or point and click adventure games or fucking. tetris remakes idfk

you can also make songs about your ocs! or interactive multimedia webseries (link rot is a great example)! or you can make analysis posts of media that doesnt exist and gush about the parallels between smeep and the other guy (those are two ocs of mine and i go crazyinsane about them)! or you can make up plots of musicals! you can make a conlang! you can make items of clothing inspired by your oc! you can make a fake wikipedia page!

and like ,,, what youre describing is, to my understanding, the job of a director. you arent the person doing the lighting or the makeup or costuming or even a ton of the writing, but you are the person in control of the artistic direction. and, not to say that directors just dont do anything because they definitely do and pitching your ideas is a doozy but "i sit around and think about my guys while other people make a show about them" is not an unreachable goal

the current look-at-able stuff ive made for my ocs are in-canon explanations of fundamental parts of the lore. i think its a fun way to impart information!

Something something happy pride month

Since I’m drawing Jamil and Kalim to like every romance song in existence, of course I had to draw them to mr. Lovernan; its only natural! And this song fits them so well too… the ways that Kalim talks to Jamil are so sickenly sweet and loving, they make Jamil wish he was gone. I think it’s so perfect to have that one voiceline where Kalim says Jamil’s name, but not with his usual trust or love or kindness, but rather with disbelief, fear, and confusion. That way the song can have a double meaning for them! Kalim’s sweet words make Jamil sick, but when Jamil’s plans fell apart and Kalim called out for him, confused and refusing to believe that his closest companion would betray him, it still makes Jamil’s stomach churn. I bet that sometimes Jamil wishes Kalim could just shut up.

But Jamil still cares about Kalim, still remembers when they were friends. Their relationship is complex, and though he hates it, I think he still does love and care deeply about Kalim, but all those feelings are just in a very weird and difficult place. I absolutely adore that double meaning! The ways in which Kalim talks to Jamil makes Jamil feel a lot of things, negative, positive, and he hates it. But “wishing i were gone” and “running on and on” can apply to both his negative feelings of desperation, hatred, loathing and disgust, and also those feelings that deep inside make him wish their situations were different, that things didn’t end up like this. Jamil lies a lot, also to himself, and all his feelings are so tangled and stuck (dude is super emotionally constipated and needs therapy fr). I LOVE the character development Jamil and Kalim got in book 6 and 7, because they’re slowly making their way towards building a healthier, mutual relationship, and I’m so happy for them! I will be eagerly awaiting the day their relationship is fixed, and they’re happy with themselves, eachother, and life

Drawing has been really difficult again; im busy with school and I can’t get myself motivated to draw. Social Media has also been bumming me out. I’m really sensitive, and there’s been a lot of negativity on my fyps and timelines, which has just killed my mood. Good news also though- the twst anime finally got a release date??! I have been waiting for this for YEARS, and I can’t wait to see our boys animated and for the fandom to grow and for new merch! the difference in yaelokre vs wrong organ’s responses to seeing proshippers in their fandom is staggering

FRRRR, the worst part is that you see a lot of ppl disagree with Wrong Organ and a lot of ppl agreeing with Keath and it's just. it makes me so mad.

what do you MEAN you play/watch a game that has problematic themes, you play as a RAPIST. and you get mad when ppl who like those things like that part of the game.

i cannot speak on what Yaelokre's about, i have little-to-no interest personally, but its shocking to me that all ppl take out of it as "well people shouldn't be drawing nsfw of those characters anyways!" negating the point that even a simple headcanon can get you a cease and desist.

Obviously Yaelokre's situation is worse, but I also hate how much fandom has became less about fun. the only way to have "fun" is to make the "safe" jokes, or to never focus on what ppl consider to be disgusting (or alternatively, change the "bad" to be "good". I.E Nice Jimmy, or everyone lives, except for Jimmy)

I respect Wrong Organ a lot, and the fact that everyone's take away is "ew they support proshippers" is so aggravating, same with ppl's response to others abt Yaelokre

Creature of Grey has kind of been... put on hiatus indefinitely. It's a story I love but also a story I made when i was 13-17. If I ever want to return to it, I'd have to give it a massive overhaul and change a lot of things.

Unfortunately I don't have any new art, but while looking for any of my older art to repost I found some pages for any early draft, back when I originally planned to make this a published series (2019/2020 me had a lot of ambition lol) but i ended up scrapping it because I didn't want to go into making a big series without more writing experience (hence why I did a lot of shorter comics, which later developed into Bugtopia and Monsters and Girls). It also lacked a proper script and outline, so I was just kind of making things up as I wrote.

Looking back its kind of hilarious because everyone is having their quaint little sitcom storyline and Vern is going through absolute hell

(If you're wondering why the page/colors look nicer I believe I still had photoshop at the time so I was a lot more comfortable with the brushes and effects. I was also trying to make it look more "professional" since again, I was expecting to sell this as a physical book series)

as a big enjoyer of suicidal evil characters i LOVE when fans actually put care into depicting jimmy... he's an awful human being but in a v specific and impactful way,... like pre-crash curly unambiguously liked jimmy and was closer to and prioritized him above the rest of the crew (that fucking psych eval... lmao...) which is RLY IMPORTANT to getting exactly how bleak anya's situation was...! anyways ummm i like how you draw anya and curly's noses. also that drink comic of yours is one of my all time fav  shitpost jimmys. that semi-not-joking mass death ideation + halfhearted backtrack is so choice

i think its valid to not want to depict jimmy, especially bc he is a terrible person whos done incredibly upsetting things that lots of people have experienced. but i think its important to not just label jimmy as a monster in general and then set him aside, but to acknowledge that hes a person that continuously choose to do bad things in efforts to self serve and shift blame, and that there is a method to his madness. theres a lot of really fucking interesting characterization going on with jimmy, and while he uses that all to be a shitty abuser, hes still a compelling villain protagonist. its a shame that this fandom is so hostile to any sort of delving into him, to even mention him, unless its surrounded by 300 warnings and disclaimers. understandable, but a shame.

the way jimmy wormed his way into positions of power over others due to the neglect of pony express and curly's desire to "fix" him, how jimmy had his talons deeply sunk into curly who just rolled over for him when it came to his assault on anya. how jimmy was able to use swanseas solitary personality and daisukes naivety to exert his dominance and desire for control over anya and the tulpar which he was never capable of handling in the first place due to his lack of responsibility and selfishness, which ultimately brought everyone down...oh that is wonderful tragedy. the trainwreck, the facade, the hubris, the unreliability. a big house of cards posed perfectly to be knocked over in an instant. sadly everyone knows an incompetent idiot who thinks hes the shit and makes it your problem, everyone knows the guy you have to warn new people about. not as fun when its in reality. but i think exploring these ideas in fiction can help prepare, notice, and prevent jimmys from ruining you and others lives.

Some banettes are formed from dolls that have music boxes inside of them. Their pull string is damaged, and can never retract fully, causing the music box to play discordant music forever. These banettes can never rest properly and are constantly exhausted, sitting slumped in corners with limp arms. They are also the most aggressive due to their lack of sleep, willing to lash out viciously at the slightest misstep. Forever plagued by insomnia, these banettes have deep purple eye bags.

Since many banettes are found in long-forgotten places, they must be able to hunt for berries and items to survive. These banettes grow long fingers to search in every crevice they come across, and have a zippered pouch on their stomach for storing their finds. In battle, these banettes are particularly adept at frisking their opponents to find items that they have hidden.

Very rarely, a banette with the "cursed body" ability can be found. During their time as a doll, these banettes were the sworn protectors of the child that owned them. Having failed in their duty, they were filled with enough rage to come to life as a pokemon. Forever the loyal guardian, this banette will stay by the side of its child, even when they too become a pokemon, having met an unfortunate end deep within the woods. It will not fail again.

Phantumps change abilities with the seasons. In winter, they lose their leaves and gain "frisk" to help them find food. In spring, they grow flowers and gain "natural cure". In summer and fall, they grow leaves and berries, gaining the "harvest" ability.

Most phantumps have white flower petals in the spring. However, there is an old story about cherry blossoms, about how the petals turn pink after absorbing blood...

dang this is why artist-audience convos are so great, bc I’d never even thought about the contrast between techno’s fame goal and becoming anxious of public perception. I think a lot of it is also him wanting control of the narrative he gives people, even from the start when he’s shaping everyone perception of his parents, all the way to the end when he essentially test tube designed himself to fit in Philza’s fairytale narrative. But anyway one more thing Philza messed up lmao

I think it’s very important in MFR that we never get a clear picture of the Piglins which while cool for a story about delusions and trauma warping perception, makes it pretty hard to draw them lol! Wither was real, other characters reference her (Philza, Blaze/Squid Kid, Officer Jenny). And it probably wasn’t delusions of grandeur/importance since the information he got from the Wither lines up in court and helps cement the Nether massacre as real (since Philza initially planned to claim it never happened but Techno being a smart cookie ruined that).

I think the symbolism of tying his hair dye to blood is also really interesting too. Like this symbol of his independent identity from the Crafts, recovery from the Piglins, and frankly his mental stability, and then linking its spread with the horror from Nether massacre that ALSO disconnects him from the Crafts as a morality rift that is irreconcilable. Like him being Not a Craft (positive) and Can Never be a Craft (negative). Just pure isolation.

Rule of Cool is always fun, plus leaves room for other people to make up symbolism for you

I think the minimal pallet really makes it pop, and simultaneously makes the hair flip scene stand out as much as it does. Plus it’s gotta be so much easier, I’ve never animated but coloring everything gotta be crazy tedious right?

I'm actually incredibly proud of this. I tried a new brush to try and combat my perfectionism and I think it worked, considering that this is done. I'm not super happy with some of the shots, but I think overall it looks alright!

been a while i think. Anyway like I said, there’s a Lot to say here. Her design is genuinely beautiful to look at, the colour scheme is immaculate, I think fourwings mentioned the asymmetry which looks really nice, and I absolutely love the hair (partly since it’s really fun to draw :P.

I’ll talk about the burn scar later, but there’s a lot to say just based on the rest of her design too. She has a butterfly collar (ult lepidopterologist, obv), and her right arm is almost entirely covered (interesting given the whole thing about which hand she usually uses). Zooming in, from what we can see, her right hand doesn’t seem to be damaged in any way (unlike the right side of her face), so it doesn’t seem like that it being hurt is the reason behind why she tries not to use her right hand. If it weren't for it being her right hand and not her left that she avoids using, I’d have maybe hazarded a guess that she was just raised to use her right hand despite being left-handed (though that in and of itself has its issues since she’s already 18, meaning she’d have already either grown used to being forced to use her right hand, which happens, or just outright decided herself to use her left).

Since that’s not the case, the reason could be for all we know because of any number of things. Some kind of internal damage in her body (and she was warned not to use her right by her doctor), superstition or some kind of self-imposed rule (likely not this one, since if anything, the left hand was always associated with evil/bad luck not the opposite), or even just something small like training to become ambidextrous or something (though heavily unlikely too). The muttering in pain line right after suggests the first option, but it could still be because of a bunch of different but similar reasons (it does point to the root cause being something to do with her burns though).

Going back to her design, what’s interesting about her monocle is that seeing through it, she has the same styled eyes as Chika. As of right now since we only have the default expression, it’s hard to judge if that’s a genuine connection since it doesn’t seem as expressive as Chika’s, but the lens does have the same colour, so it’s not entirely out of the question. It doesn’t seem like just a way to style all glasses though, given the same thing doesn’t happen with julien (though his glasses are a lot more transparent). The only thing going against it right now is the fact Chika’s eyes still have her eyebrows above them. Despite Kellen’s expression being neutral, she should still theoretically at least have an eyebrow slightly above her eye. That in and of itself could still be a style choice, simplifying the eye, but who knows.

Anyway, moving onto the quotes and other details, from what I can see, there’s nothing too out of the ordinary. Her quote is pretty standard, kinda similar to other logs of the same nature (especially Kya’s, which makes sense since they’re both scientists who research nature of some sort). Her likes and dislikes are fairly standard given her log blurb, but the bugs and fire is something that’s mentioned in Chika’s log too, which points to another connection between them. You could argue that given her talent is related to bugs, Chika’s log might foreshadow more ultimates whose talents are related to fire and people respectively, but that’s entirey just baseless speculation for now (you could say that that might suggest Naruko had met Chika after having met Kellen, since that would make the topic of bugs a possible discussion to come up). Kellen’s birthday’s also on Pi day, but I don’t think that’s really meant to mean anything. She’s also the fourth adult, which isn’t anything special for now.

Moving onto her blurb, the first line’s a bit suspicious, which might or might not place her as a candidate for antag? (regardless it’s definitely something that’ll come up later at the very least). Not like there’s been too many participants that give off that vibe so far. Anyway, She seems to be hiding something, which might be related to her left/right hand deal, or something else entirely. Goal-oriented is used to describe her, but is also an adjective explicitly used to describe Asaro, but given it’s one time, it’s probably not too important (probably along the level of importance of the diamond in Asaro/Mikazuki’s clothing, at least until a third participant comed up with the same pattern).

Her philosophy brings into question a new trio, where her, Poppi, and Chika all have conflicting worldviews. That’s something that’ll be interesting to look forward to developing as the killing game progresses, so that might lower all 3 of their chances of becoming the first victim/blackened, though not guaranteed.

Oh, also, something I forgot to mention about her use of her left hand is that it reminds me a lot of what happened with Nikei in SDRA2. From what I’ve heard (I haven’t actually watched the full fangan), Nikei was shown across the game talking about how much he liked his right hand, and how it’s what allows him to engage in his talent. When (spoilers for sdra2 obv) his right hand gets blown off in the fourth trial, his tendency to use his right hand still remained. When trying to escape his execution, he tries to jump and reach for the ladder of a helicopter, only for his instinct of reaching towards it with his (blown off) right hand to cause him to miss, causing his downfall (literally, since he fell to death ;-;). Anyway, just as a small theory, something similar might happen with Kellen as it did with Nikei with either her forcing herself to follow through with using her left hand (thereby dooming her), or the opposite, accidentally using her right hand despite everything she’s done to stop and suffering the consequences. That plot point could develop in any number of ways, so we’ll see as it actually starts.

That aside, that’s pretty much it for her main log. Moving on to the butterflies though, I can’t really tell if they’re a real species or entirely functional since that’s not really my field of interest, but given the fact that they’re canonically there in the killing game presents a lot of different opportunities in the future.

Being a topic to help her build connections, butterfly accomplice murders?, tragic butterfly deaths (average lifetime is 2-4 weeks), butterfly births??? (there is more than 1 tbf. Also opportunity for slightly corny jokes about Kenta and Julien Kenta), and a possibility for them to die before her whether through the killing game, the first chapter, or even in an execution. As an early plot point, their deaths could also be used as symbolism or an allegory for any number of possibilities too (speaking of which, an execution for the ultimate lepidopterist would genuinely be really interesting to see).

Moving on again, something pretty simple to note is that their names start with the same letter as Kellen and each have 2 syllables (and they’re each of pretty much the most popular 4 colour combo). Doesn’t really mean anything, but I thought it was nice to mention.

The quote, “I swear they [the butterflies] have it out for me” is a lighthearted joke, obviously, but it does hint towards some kind of interaction between Naruko and Kellen in the prologue that wasn’t mentioned in the log blurb. Probably something simple like them bothering her (as an introduction to Kellen showing up?) or then blocking her from speaking to Kellen. Well, either that or Naruko dies first as a fakeout protag killed by Kyra (Kellen butterfly #3).

The butterfly log’s labeled #10.5 and doesn’t have much written, which makes sense considering they’re…butterflies. That’s about it.

Oh, also also, something I never had the opportunity to mention was that some of the chest measurements are measured in inches while the others are in cm, while the heights are all in feet. Thought this might be a bit of a hint towards about the characters nationality-wise, but given Julien’s existence (claims to be british; uses inches), probably not. It’s probably an innocuous detail.
