Beside my brainrot content on tiktok, their lore is actually pretty sad. Who would’ve thought the humour would be a coping mechanism??? definitely not me🫸🏻 (I did). Also I'm not a writer and english isn't my first language, so it's just pretty basic summary. A case of she fell first but he fell harder. First, MC:

Audra Bucket is an 18-year-old muggle-born witch who joined the wizarding world in her 5th year, having never been in contact with it before. This led her to approach some things naively, and she still suffers the consequences today - one of them being her connection with Sebastian.

From the beginning of her time at Hogwarts, Audra had always looked up to Sebastian. As someone new to the wizarding world, she was in awe of his knowledge, self-confidence, his magical abilities and the way he was thinking about certain topics. Over the course of her 5th year, the two became close friends. However, Sebastian was aware that Audra looked up to him and used this to his advantage. He realised how Audra’s naive and kind demeanour made her persuasive, her innocence shielding her from suspicion. People like Ominis felt protective of her because of that, never thinking she could do any harm. Sebastian used this to keep Ominis from interfering with their plans in 5th year — some of the many things he regrets to this day. By the end of 5th year, Audra had fallen in love with Sebastian, although he was too focused on trying to find a cure for Anne to be aware of her feelings for him.

After the traumatic events of her first year at being at Hogwarts and being overwhelmed by the many tasks of her classmates and professors, Audra suffered from burnout. She was forced to spend her 6th year at her family’s home near London, where she was home-schooled. This allowed her to finally focus solely on her magical studies and recover. As with Sebastian, the use of dark magic and unforgivable curses took a toll on her, clouding both her emotions and her reasoning for a while. She stopped using ancient magic after the battle against Ranrok, feeling a mixture of hatred and fear for her ability to wield it after seeing the destruction such power can cause in the wrong hands. After all that has gone wrong in the past, Audra no longer considers herself worthy of that kind of magic. Shortly after the start of 6th year, she received an owl from Ominis - the only person who had reached out to her during her time at home, if only on one occasion. He informed her that Anne had passed away and that Sebastian was becoming worse than ever, adopting new destructive behaviours and coping mechanisms. Since then, Audra has blamed herself in part for Anne's death. This guilt was intensified when, in her 7th year, she was reunited with Sebastian after a year of silence. Unfortunately, the person she had fallen in love with at the end of her 5th year, was no longer the same. She began to believe that if she had been able to help Anne with ancient magic, the parts of Sebastian she had fallen in love with wouldn't have died with his twin. Occasionally, Sebastian shows glimpses of his former self, leaving Audra clinging to the belief that one day he would return to the person he once was.

AU Sebastian, 19 years old - 7th year:

After Anne's death, Sebastian was consumed by grief and guilt - not only because of his uncle, but also for the role he had played in Audra's burnout and the damage he had done to his friendship with Ominis. He knew he had dragged them both down with him as he grasped at every straw of hope - which was now all for nothing.

During 6th year, Sebastian had been desperately trying to forget all that had happened and his failure to save Anne, so he never reached out to Audra during her time at home. This was leaving Audra thinking he wants nothing to do with her anymore, because she wasn't able to use her ability to take Anne's pain away. She didn't dare to contact him, believing he must hate her now. Sebastian had put all of his energy into the search for a cure and now he had lost everything nevertheless. He vowed never to invest so much of himself into another person again. He became someone who cared little for the feelings of others, focusing only on his own desires and survival. This often got him into even more trouble and detentions. Rumours about Solomon's death and Sebastian's involvement with the dark arts began to circulate, causing many students to avoid him. This only encouraged him to go further down that path. He felt like an outcast and saw little reason to care how others viewed him. His behaviour spiralled as he picked fights, skipped classes and abandoned his passion for learning and books. Loneliness and depression consumed him, and he became desperate for any form of distraction, resulting in typical teenage rebellion. All this caused Ominis to distance himself from his best friend, as he could not bear to see Sebastian self-destruct even further.

Despite all that and his constant denying of his feelings, Sebastian realised how much Audra had meant to him, while she was absent. In his weakest moments, he remembered how she had always put him above her own well-being and cared deeply for him, even when he used her and her ancient magic for his own purposes. She would have done anything to impress him and win his approval, including using the unforgivables.

Audra's return at the beginning of 7th year stirred up all kinds of mixed emotions in him. Seeing her again was a painful reminder of everything he had tried to forget. He was suddenly forced to face his feelings that he considered a weakness and anger became his dominant reaction. They clashed often, but despite their arguments, their bond deepened. Audra gradually helped him to reconnect with Ominis - a much-needed positive influence. Audra and Sebastian are dating now, but the relationship is hard on both of them and their closest friends, whenever the past catches up with them.

But it was time to come home. The non stop calls from your family and friends had finally shattered your resolve to be away.

From Biting Apples to Embracing Galaxies: My Switch to Samsung

For more than a decade, I've always been using the Apple eco-system. My first modern phone was the iPhone 5 in 2012 and it lasted for a couple of years until I upgraded to the iPhone 10 in 2017 after convincing my father that my phone was dying.

As time passed, the iPhone X has survived numerous trips overseas, journalism jobs, freelancing gigs, concerts, and dating attempts. But like all tech devices, this one is about to reach its end after an incident where it wouldn't turn on properly when it was being charged.

I had two options: wait for the iPhone 15 to come out or move to Samsung. And based on the article, it's quite obvious what happened next.

One last bite of the Apple - why I love the iPhone

Moving to a Galaxy device has to be the hardest decision I've ever made. My original plan was to save $2000 for a brand new Apple product because the Apple ecosystem is pretty good. I can copy a link or photo on my phone and paste it on my Macbook. Airdrop is pretty convenient. Also, my entire family became Apple snobs ever since the release of Airpods. Also, since I moved out from home, Facetime became the most used method of communication between family members because it was instant.

Another cool feature that the iPhone has is that is very easy to customize. From having an Animal Crossing dark mode theme phone to selecting a case, the choices are ripe for the picking.

Lastly, it's just very easy to use. Unless you're planning to do some complicated stuff like jailbreaking, using an iPhone as an everyday device is very simple. Left it somewhere? Use the "Find my phone" app and annoy the heck out of those who try to steal it. Want music? Drop the file into iTunes and it will sync via iCloud. It's that versatile.

But as my phone was quickly on its final breath, as well as the cost of living crisis, waiting for the iPhone 15 was no longer a valid option anymore. So I had to say goodbye to these nifty features and swap to Samsung.

I bought the Samsung zFlip 4 during the End of the Financial Year sale, without realising that the zFlip 5 would be released 2 months later. Big oof. The reason I got this phone is because the 512 GB model cost $1300 AUD. The case was $10 from Telstra. I got a cuter one for $100 from Caseify.

If I were to buy the iPhone 15 (or in my case, the iPhone 14 Pro), the 512 GB model would have cost me $2400 + the cost of a case and the cable for the highest speeds. In case you were unaware, the 15 models only come with USB 2 speeds. WTF?! Also, there are the MagSafe accessories like chargers, which would cost even more.

The reason I chose to get the Samsung zFlip 4 is mostly because it's a flip phone and Samsung marketed it as "bending the laws of physics." Another reason is because of BTS. As a BTS fan, mostly a Suga stan, I learned that the K-Pop star will not hold Apple devices. I remember seeing a TikTok where a fan disguised her iPhone to look like a Samsung and the rapper was shocked until he held it on stage.

I was, however, warned about getting this Samsung model from my aunt. She told me that the battery life is bad and that Apple lasts longer. And she only uses her phone for the most basic usage - calls, text, and Facebook. But based on my experience, the battery isn't that bad… unless I use it for Pokemon Sleep.

Transferring my data from an Apple to a Samsung device is easier said than done. For starters, it nearly took a whole day for the transfer process to be completed. Second, I needed to use a wireless charger for one of my devices because it took so long.

When it came to the user interface, while it's somewhat different, some similarities made using my new phone not that difficult. It perhaps took a week to get used to the new functions and gestures.

I also liked the new camera. It's much more vibrant in my opinion. Much better than the iPhone X if I'm being honest. And there were times I did try filming like it was an old camcorder due to its flip functionalities.

If I have a complaint, it's that my game saves (except for Pokemon Go and Sleep) aren't transferable. This means all that effort I've placed in Tiny Tower for a year and a bit is gone and I would need to start over because the game is synced to Apple's Game Center. However, all of my texts since my senior year of high school made their way to the new device. WTF?

Also, not all the apps transferred to the new device, which makes sense since some of them were discontinued. But finding the APKs for them became a challenge, especially for a photo editor that I've been using for years. Thanks to the subscription model, it's been removed from the app stores.

Final Thoughts

Swapping to Samsung was probably a good decision to make. For starters, I'm no longer bombarded by my family's group chat messages since I no longer live with them. Second, I can text my boyfriend photos through NORMAL TEXT, not Facebook and discord. The amount of memes I've missed during the earlier parts of our relationship due to device differences was a massive pain and now it's all convenient.

While it's a shame I no longer have access to Siri, adding songs to a Samsung device is much easier compared to Apple since it is basically like a hard drive.

I will miss the Apple ecosystem though. iCloud and Apple Notes are super handy. Airdrop is pretty cool. And the new iOS features in the latest system look super appealing. However, these features are something that I would rarely use. I just need a phone to play games, go on social media, take photos and videos, and make phone calls. I won't be making 3D models of my room.

Looking forward to spending the next 5 years with this Samsung device until I have to make the switch once more.

Coming on here because TikTok keeps bombarding me with videos about people being confused about the nine month cruise thing (literally a dream of mine) and clearing some things up as someone who has been on 3 cruises before (all between 7-15 days, mostly based around families.)

Right, first of all, there is a doctor on board. Most of the time depending on how many people are there for how long, you will have between like 5-10 people off medical staff. They describe certain meds if someone is feeling sick, advise people if it should be something serious etc. I have personally not been sick so much that I had to go to a doctor but my parents did once and I think it was mostly just telling symptoms and getting meds/a recipe like a normal visit. I am assuming if they are staying for longer, the med things might be stocked up once a month at various ports alongside with the food. Should there be a genuine emergency you will find that quiet a few cruises also have an emergency landing place for a small plane to take someone to the closest hospital as fast as you can. And lastly if someone should get pregnant early on (which literally can happen on any holiday trip, some people are just like that) they would obviously have to get off after a few weeks/months because there is a risk. No one is staying on board a good cruise line and delivering a baby, any good staff would make sure to get them to a safe hospital or off a port so they can get home okay when they are still in the non-risk term of a pregnancy.

Secondly, as mentioned before, they stop at ports like at least every 4th/5th day. They get off, explore cities or have planned trip while the crews restock on food etc. As far as I would assume with what I read they also take new passengers on board meaning not every passenger is staying for 9 months but some get on and off at certain stops.

To go along with the food point, I genuinely don't understand how anyone would assume you get sick of the food because it was literally one of the best things on board. You will have a variety of themed dishes, options for all sort of nutritional diets, restaurant that focuses on different meals etc. Not to mention you can always try local food and something there are even tours to explore local food productions (I remember we once went to a farm that produced goat milk products like goat cheese and it was delicious.) I don't know why people think it's just a giant mall with unhealthy food when there is so much with fruits, veggies, pasta etc. It isn't just ice cream, you get sick of eating that within the first 3 days. As for myself, I also had such a craving for fruit because the cooks produce amazing meals and desserts.

Another point that I have seen is alcoholism and trust me, anyone that wants to drink to the abnormal extent will already do that in their free time anyway. Most people who are normal drinks like other people of my family that have been on a different cruise line, had a drink maybe in the evening not all around the clock or every day and then again, some maybe only had a glass of wine with a nice dinner and not 30 cocktails that they drowned.

Secondly I hope most off you realise that 9-month-cruise doesn't mean 9 months on the cruise ship. You get off at at least 30+ ports, explore cities etc. While yes there are some days that will be on the cruise, most of the time (obviously depending on where the ship goes) will be spent exploring. And for the time on board they offer courses that you can spend time at or have sports events etc. You won't get bored easily and after a few days you would also start using the options by the ship because they are fun! Some of the things are genuinely nice surprisingly even for introverted people like myself.

When it comes to affairs etc. it's baffling to me because I can not imagine that being my first thought when thinking about such a cool event. Add to that, everyone who wants to hook up, will do that on any trip and everyone who wants to cheat, will cheat at any chance, just the way people are.

Some other info about cruises that applied on the ones I took:

If you do a planned trip from the cruise, the ship will always with for you no matter how late you are. If you go out on your own however and come back late, they might leave you at the port.

Sometimes the captain will take time out of their day to sit down and answer questions which is really cool. (Don't worry, there are co-coptains.)

There used to be an exercise mandatory that would prep you for an emergency event. Before deporting on the first port, there would be the alert for an emergency and you would be asked to put on your life jacket, go to your right rescue station and have to be accounted for while the crew would tell you if you did something wrong. There also used to be a video to show you how to put on life jackets and to tell you what to do in an emergency + there are big instructions on the inside of the cabin door.

Our ship also had a lecture who would offer presentations on the ports you went to or even on specific places that trips were planned to.

We also got offered a presentation for all the planned tours that are available for every port in case anyone hadn't booked something yet and wanted to do it last minute.

There are different types of cabines but most people will choose to one with a mirror or without one because you always have to ability to go to the outside/pool deck for sun and stuff. However if the sea is rough, all outside decks will be closed but you can still see from most upper decks that have shops or restaurants.

Every cruise line is different when it comes to what is included in the price but everyone has basic food and alcohol like wine/beer. Some restaurants used to be extra pay and on the ships I was on, so did most cocktails.

I think this is maybe only on German cruises but for us you got a board card which you not only needed to come back on the cruise but that would also be used as payment on the cruise itself. It was connected to the payment you selected for the cruise itself and you could always check how much there was on it at certain machines on the ship.

All the cruises I have been on have had at leady 800 passenger cabins so a minimum of 1600 people. In a big cruise like that you rarely hang out with people other than the ones you came on the trip with in the first place but sometimes at stuffed hours if you were only 2 people or so or still had seats available at your table some people would ask if they could sit with you if the restaurants are filled. And they would also be polite and nice, sometimes starting conversations. On my cruise there were specific hours every restaurant would be open, serving 3 meals a day and sometimes cake. But you can always get drinks like water, tea or coffee.

When it comes to anything law related there is always the important question of where because if it was on land, the rules of that country will apply and if it was on the sea, it depends on which territory you are in. There is also a ship jail most of the time until people can get detained at the next port.

If you have travel insurance (always do if you travel anywhere expensive or on a longer term), they will refund it when you are injured or cannot attend sometimes because of sickness etc. However boredom does not equal a refund and I assume neither might something like pregnancy which was a decision made by you. Also, travelling start being unsafe at around the 20th week mark and this ships policy requires you to leave either if you are in the 23rd or 24th week.

biography.

hajoon na was born as the first child to hyunjin na and angelica kwon, respectively an accountant and a nurse. both of them were overjoyed to welcome their son and start their little family, which had until then only consisted of the two of them and their dog valentine. however, they shouldn’t remain such a small family for very long as hajoons little sister was born only two years after him, making his run as an only child ever so short-lived. hajoon didn’t resent his sister though, instead fully embracing this new role as her older brother. it was fun to have somebody he could take care of and who would blindly follow his lead for quite a few years.

while there family was never rich, they didn’t have to worry for much, especially since their parents placed both of their well-being before most other concerns. their education was another one of the things they really cared for and so the whole family even travelled through europe twice when hajoon was in his teens. all in all, he wasn’t ever a disappointment to his parents, eager to please them. however, he also wasn’t quite the high-achiever they might have wished for. always getting good but honestly no exceptional grades, even though he was already studying much more than he personally would have liked. his sister, harin, proved herself to be much more the academic his parents were hoping for.

honestly, it wasn’t always easy for joon to have a younger sister who quite possibly was much smarter than him but in the end he was glad for her and his parents. they got what they wanted after all, with a daughter who soaked up all the knowledge she could get her hands on, especially everything space related. on the other hand, hajoon coasted through college, not quite smart enough to be of notice but certainly well liked by his peers. he was always one of the popular kids, despite never really trying. while others might have stepped on people to get them up the ranks, he had never done anything of particular note aside from having a massive glow-up in his teens and genuinely being nice to pretty much everyone.

maybe it’s the fact that he’d always been so effortlessly popular or the way his parents were basically as supportive as could be but it means that hajoon grew up to often blindly trust others and be pretty self-assured. sure, he knows now that he certainly isn’t extraordinarily smart but extraordinarily handsome was also worth something, right? after school he didn’t quite know what to do with life and so he took an infamous gap-year, mostly spent volunteering at the local animal shelter. it was there that he realised he wanted to work with animals long-term and so he began working towards becoming a certified dog trainer.

by now he works as a dog trainer, having opened his own training center with a friend of his. through a tiktok he once made with his own dog, friday, which was mostly meant to be educational, he had already gotten a small following on the site. ever since the group’s tiktok blew up in 2019 and the show was aired afterwards, however, that following had become quite sizeable and he has continued posting. i would personally describe his content as a wild mixture of educational dog training tips, tiktok’s everyone but himself would describe as thirst traps and dad jokes. harin always tells him he should stick exclusively with dog content because the rest of it is supposedly cringe af. but the internet at large doesn’t quite seem to agree with that assessment.

long ass post about the original designs of my ocs (these are only the ones i've redesigned later, also not 100% accurate to the original designs because picrews have their limits but i was too lazy to draw them lol)

valerian (rian) started as john. still a vampire but with a whole different skin tone and everything. he used to look so boring omg. also at one point i almost cut him out of the whole story but instead i ended up changing him so much im not sure if it even counts as a redesign anymore lol.

mirabel was always named mirabel years before encanto came out and at the time i didnt know it was an actual name lol, originally as a nickname of miranda isabel but now it's just her actual name. also she was always a fairy, but once again her whole appearance changed (except her style). also her "theme color" went from pink to yellow, only because i wanted the six most important characters to make up a rainbow lol.

olga started as jane. she remained pretty similar except i got rid of the bangs and gave her shorter hair. i think i also made her taller but its hard to tell because my ocs used to not have set heights/height differences because i never drew them. once again, her power (shapeshifting) stayed the same, just like everyone else's.

i've mentioned this a lot i think, but ari started off as a boy (thats the backstory of why i made her trans). her appearance didnt change too much more than what transitioning would change about her. i gave her glasses back when she was still going to be a guy, but originally i dont think she had them.

and finally, lynn. her appearance didnt change a whole lot actually, but her role did. shes still an important character but she was originally going to be the protagonist. (also, i mostly draw her grey/posessed version but she has light brown hair normally). her name spelling kept changing between Lyn and Lynn, but i settled on Lynn. at some point i also gave her vitiligo but it's not visible on her grey version because all color is basically sucked out of her. when shes her regular self, she does have it though (unless i forget to add it while coloring her because its really hard to remember what details i kept vs what i didnt, but she is supposed to have vitiligo, so feel free to beat me with a stick if i draw her non-posessed version without it).

the last one of the old main cast would be edward but all i changed was give him glasses, and i made him way less important to the story. he got replaced by ellie as a major character because ellie had a lot more personality at the time. also, lynn got replaced by kiara who didn't even exsist originally. i drew kiara during a class one time and i liked her design so much i wanted to add her to this story, and lynn felt boring so she got replaced by her.

all of these ocs were originally inspired by the appearance of people i saw irl (as most of my ocs are), but the redesigns thankfully made them a bit more unique.

also its kinda funny because one could say my current oc lineup is "forced representation" (which is stupid, yes, but one could say this shit) but actually it was completely accidental. like i individually redesigned all of them, i didnt even have the other characters or the goal of representation in mind lol. like i made mirabel fat at one point "because why not", and then happened to get inspired from a black girl's tiktok so i made her black as well. like i just kept adding things to each of them until it felt right, and i accidentally ended up with a diverse and fun to draw cast of characters. and like i was already planning to make ari and olga a couple, so when i changed ari to be a girl i just decided to make olga a lesbian (ari was already bisexual before i even made her trans, so i didnt need to change anything about her). and then it was like "what if ellie has a gf? and what if its kiara?" (ellie has also always been bi) idk how it took me so long to realise im bisexual when i kept making my favorite ocs bi lol

so yeah. thats it for the embarrassing original designs of my main ocs. they look much cooler now because i got better at drawing people but i think its interesting/fun to look back to where i started

so i lay in bed last night and really tried to remember a time when i was on holiday and what we did and i really couldn't so i had the idea to make a blog again (nothing to crazy) so i could write down what i did that day in some detail so if i ever want to look i can. i also looked through someones instagram today at a post she made when she left work, some of the photo's had me in them and i looked so happy, but again, i really couldn't remember?

i don't know if its my tablets making me feel like this or my general memory but it does frighten me a bit.

i want this to be relatively private, i know its a website so it can't be 100%, and that makes me anxious.

i didn't want to buy a notebook because i've done that before and i never stick to it and it seemed a waste of money, plus i'm much better at typing!

todays entry is, i woke up & sat on my phone for a while (too long because i had no energy to get up), mabel and pearl sat with me for a while in bed which made me stay longer. i got up, had a coffee and ate crab sticks with cocktail sauce.

i spoke to friends about plans we have for them to cat-sit for me and Samir which i was worried about, and then i went and got keys cut for both of them. on the way home, i went to a charity shop and bought 3 things and i think i regret all of them but i can't get a refund (only store credit) but its fine.

i'm now on the couch making this post and will make a coffee and i think i want to watch Brave because i have seen lots of TikTok's about it recently but i really remember it not being any good?

i think we're having pasta bake for tea. i might do another post this evening but i am not sure. (EDIT: i just realised i can edit post's so i won't be adding a new one, probably editing if something happens)

There was a lot of noise last night and this morning so I didn’t sleep as good as I did the other day. When I went down to the lobby I sled where there was a doctor I could go see. There is one at walking distance so that’s where I’ll go after my appointment. I also asked what the easiest way to get to the airport, and it’s by bus. It leaves across the street from where we left yesterday and it only takes about 25min. I’m getting my eyelashes done at brows and beauty, it’s a place in the shopping mall that was at 1,3 km from the hostel. I stopped at a cafe on the way and got a breakfast muffin and an lemon and ginger tea to go. The appointment was hell, everytime I’m laying down I need to cough like crazy. I was happy when it was done so I could drink something. The shopping street looks very fun, so that’s what I’m gonna go after the doctor. The doctor place was of course the other side so I walked back. The girls wanted to go for lunch but I didn’t go because of the doctor, in the end I could have gone because girl behind the counter gave me an appointment at 14:50. But I think not talking is gonna be better for my voice in the long run. So I went back to the shopping street for some retail therapy. I did set an alarm just in case so I would have enough time to walk back. I went looking for uggs and I can’t find the ones bieke and I got last time anywhere. There are all the normal ones, but we had one that had a better sole so it was better for wet climate. I did buy a few souvenirs again and went to unliqlo. Before I left I debated on getting the build in bra top, but didn’t because the sizing was weird online. So that was my goal today, I got a few styles and sizes and oh my god the tops are brilliant. I got one in like bikini fabric thinking it would be great for when I get to the east coast. Nadir buy a second crop top with a halter neck because it was so pretty. Walking to the register I came across the viral bags from TikTok, I got the bum bag online in black but the normal bag in pink was really pretty too!! So what the hell, lets get a pink bag. When I was making my way back to the hotel so I could dump my things, I ran into nick. I was thinking he looked familiar when I realised it was nick!! We talked for a bit but I had to walk back because it was about a 2km trek to the doctor with stopping at the hostel on the way. The doctor was about 25min late but I had my ereader so I wasn’t bothered. I explained everything and he said so you want antibiotics? I was a bit taken aback since in Belgium doctors are reluctant to give you them. I told him I’d do what he thought was best. He said plan a) was taking painkillers, plan b) was a throat spray and plan c) was if I wasn’t better by the weekend to get the antibiotics he was prescribing. Because of my travel insurance I have to pay the doctor and then put in a clame to get it back, I was expecting the worst so I took my big wallet that has all my cash in it. It was 80$ which is about 52€. I was really shocked I was expecting double that, at least. By now Europe was awake so I explained what he said to Aaron and the medication (doxycycline). Aaron and bieke said because I’m going to Airlie beach in 6 days and the treatment is 7 it was better to just start the antibiotics already. I have been sick for 4 days already. You have to avoid excessive skin exposure to sunlight on them and I’m going on a sailing tour so that’s gonna be difficult. Of course the pharmacy is all the way back to the shopping street. I feel like I’ve been running back and forth all day. I was thinking of getting an Uber but just walked it in the end. The pharmacy was not what I was expecting, it’s called the chemist warehouse and that’s exactly what it is, 7 rows of all sorts of medication on both sides. It’s like you see on the movies where you give your prescription in the back and you wait a certain amount of time and they call out your name and you can pick it up, and pay for it in the front of the store. Very weird experience.

Doomscrolling™️

Doomscrolling.

Like most people, I'm definitely guilty of doing this, although I generally tend to avoid any doom and gloom as much as possible, since I want to focus on the positive aspects of life, as well as being able to get the most out of it in a way that suits me.

I think I became emotionally and spiritually exhausted with doomscrolling roughly in 2020, when I was constantly bombarded with an endless amount of doom, what with COVID, mass shootings, protests, and countries bordering on wars (amongst loads of other depressing and negative things) basically happening all the time, all at once.

These pockets of doom kept popping up in places where I'd least expect it, and with a whole army of self-proclaimed thought leaders and armchair politicians all eager to offer their two worthless pennies at situations that they knew nothing about, it basically made it a lot worse than it actually was, to the point where it was impossible to escape all of the doom and gloom, since it was literally everywhere, even in all the nooks and crannies.

Nowadays, I just simply ignore all the doom and gloom by focusing on the people who are genuinely doing productive things on social media, although this can sometimes be a lot easier said than done.

The only thing that I obsessively check at the moment is LinkedIn, since it offers a way to connect with other people within the industry, as well as the fact that a lot of people on there tend to take their careers seriously, and tend to be a lot more open minded and positive than the people that might be on Reddit.

However, LinkedIn does still offer glimmers of doom (usually in the form of mass layoffs in the tech industry (I worry about this since I work in that area), AI taking over everything (it's all soulless bullshit, so I tune it out), and that being a woman of colour apparently means that you're screwed (but in a space that's dominated by extroverted white guys, I kind of expect that), which all does have an affect on me), but I tend to use this as a form of motivation to do better in my career, since spite can become a great motivator.

The reason that I'm improving the curation front in my spare time is because I already have a minimum viable product which I know I can improve upon (instead of starting entirely from scratch), and is something that I have the potential to eventually work on full time, so in a way, I've still got a back up plan.

I've realised that AI is now here to stay, and that I can easily spot an AI generated image or piece of text from a mile away, although I'm worried that my writing style itself might now sound AI generated, which isn't great if you're trying to get your point across in as much detail as possible, but doing it in a way so that you still sound human.

I also don't want my South Asian heritage (as well as the fact that I look visibly asian, like most people who happen to be in the same demographics) or the fact that I happen to be a woman get in the way of my career, since those two things lie beyond my control, and there's literally nothing I can do about it apart from embracing those characteristics without being overly patronising about it, so to me, they're trivial and shouldn't get in the way of anything that isn't directly linked to those things.

To me, Instagram and Reddit are the worst offenders, so I try to avoid them as much as possible since they absolutely stink of negativity, not to mention that they're the reasons why I ended up being overly critical of anything to ever exist in the first place.

Instagram can serve as a form of inspiration, but it crosses a very thin line, since it's boring at best, but can quickly become depressing if I'm not careful with it.

TikTok? I'm not even going to go there, since it's basically Instagram on a lot of steroids and crack.

Facebook and Twitter? They're dead and gone, since they were so political that I just gave up with them, but I'm much better off without them.

YouTube's okay, but I now associate it with watching TV in the living room, so to me, it's basically a free streaming service where I can watch anything and deal with ads popping up every two seconds, not to mention that it's more of a social activity that I do with others.

For now, I'll just focus on LinkedIn (as well as on improving both of my sites) and forget about all of the other platforms.

It is that time of the year where I review my games played for 2023. However, this post is meant for Anticipating games for 2024. As such, if you wish to see my games played for 2023, you can go to either my Completed or Currently Playing post.

1️⃣ Animal Crossing New Horizons

Yes, I know, I played it before but I am attempting to restart the game progress. I had a major overhaul of my gaming progress because I realised that I wasn't really getting anywhere when multi-tasking some of my games.

I had planned to pick up the game after I am done with my Pokemon Scarlet gameplay. I already had a theme in mind for my island but it is kind of down to luck on the colour of my airport and such. Unlike before, i am going to take my time with the gameplay and decorating my island. I mean, there's only so much I can do in one day...

2️⃣ Hogwarts Legacy

Hogwarts Legacy is one of my most anticipated games. While I have the means to buy it and play it anytime, I wasn't willing to fork out a huge sum of money... I gotta eat too, you know. Hence, the big discount finally came though it was strangely not part of the Black Friday sale.

While I am eager to start on this game soon, I am also quite concern about my memory space in my laptop. Anyway, I have every intention to play through all four houses. I know the story is the same but there are differences to some of the other quests too.

The only quest that I am not looking forward to, which I saw on TikTok months ago, is the one with the mannequins in a dark room. I think I most likely will be playing happy songs just so that I can sleep peacefully at night after that quest...

3️⃣ Palia

From what I have seen so far, Palia is like a mix between Pokemon, Animal Crossing, and Stardew Valley. Pokemon mainly because you get to catch animals, I guess? And for Animal Crossing is because you get to decorate your own piece of land, and Stardew Valley because there's farming.

It's really your typical slice-of-life game except it threw in the fantasy genre too. I am quite eager to start playing it but my memory space isn't cutting it. However, it is still quite high up on my list of games to play.

That's probably it for now. I do have other games I want to play but probably not at this moment. The list above is just a glimpse of the games that i highly wish to play. I may or may not post regular updates about them since it is quite tiring to keep up with both Genshin and Honkai Star Rail.

BCM114 Contextual Report

Over the course of the semester, I have managed to create a digital artefact that explores my love of film and interest in journal spreads. I was inspired with the idea to combine these two things by the many film journal videos/posts on TikTok or Instagram where they make aesthetic spreads as well as write their opinions on the movie.

I named my account “@journalsatthecinemas” because I thought it sounded catchy and easy to remember. In order to make my account unique, I came up with the idea to post a review every day, and allocated a certain genre to each day of the week. I pitched this idea at the start of the semester, you can read that here. The themes were Musical Mondays, Trash Tuesdays, Wholesome Wednesdays (I didn't have a good word that starts with W, but this vaguely meant family, romance or coming of age movies). Toon Thursdays, Fantasy Fridays, Spooky Saturdays, and Sporty Sundays. It was a really fun idea and it gave me an excuse to watch a bunch of movies that were on my watchlist for each genre, as well as rewatch some of my favourites after a long time. 

Important Project Moments

Moment 1: Brainstorming And Account Setup

After coming up with the idea to post a different theme every day, I now had to figure out how I was going to produce the film review spreads. I had initially planned to create them on paper and post photos of them to Instagram, but after some thought I realised that would take a lot of time and money as I would have to buy scrapbooking supplies and a journal as well as hand write the reviews.

Instead, I decided to do online spreads using the photo editing app Picsart, which allows you to decorate a blank image with different ‘stickers’ as well as add photos and text. I have a lot of experience with this app as I used to use it to make collages for fun when I was younger. It is very easy to use which makes it easier to produce content faster every day as I could just create the spread while watching the film and then quickly write a review for it once finished.

To start with, I used Picsart to create a logo for my account as well as story highlights that tell my audience my posting schedule, what my account is about and the option for them to request a film for me to watch and review. I am really proud of how my account setup turned out and I think the purple theme makes my account somewhat calming and relaxing to look at. After my account was set up and ready to go, I started creating a list of what movies I wanted to watch for each theme, just so I know what to watch and don’t waste time browsing through streaming platforms trying to decide on a movie. 

Moment 2: Prototype And Audience

Once my list was ready, it was time to watch the first movie. I created a somewhat schedule in my head, I would watch the movie the night before and edit the review spread and then post it the next morning. So, I watched Burlesque, my first musical movie on the account, on Sunday, and then posted the review on Monday August 21st 2023. This made it way easier as I only had time to watch movies at night time and only had a short amount of time to post during the day, so I would watch the movie the day before and post the review on the actual day when I woke up. It was a very fun way to unwind at the end of the day and I was really consistent with posting for the most part. My favourite post that I made was my first Fantasy Friday post, where I watched Ella Enchanted, one of my favourite movies as a kid. The spread I made for that was very aesthetic and very pretty. I also touched on how Fantasy Friday was my favourite day in my week 6 progress blog post. I also collaborated with one of my classmates on one of my Fantasy Friday posts, where I posted my review for the first Narnia movie as well as her review of the second Narnia movie.

This was really fun and she also posted my review of the Australian movie The Sapphires on her account. It was really fun to collaborate with her.

In regards to engagement, I wasn’t really getting much interaction with my posts. A lot of accounts would visit my profile, but not many would follow or like my posts. The most followers I got were 29 people, with most of that being people I know like friends or family.

The most liked post on my account was my September 5th Tuesday post where I reviewed the infamous movie Tall Girl, and that got 11 likes. I think this post was the most popular because this movie is a rather big meme on the internet so I think that had a factor into why it was my most engaged post.

Because I was struggling with engagement, I posted to Twitter asking for any tips that could help, and got two responses. One person suggested that I follow other accounts similar to mine and interact with their posts in order to get mine noticed, and another suggested that I use popular hashtags on my posts in order to try to get more reach, which I had already been doing. I ended up following a few other accounts that reviewed movies and my engagement went up slightly, but mostly stayed the same. I did get my first comment from this however, as one person who I followed liked all my posts and commented on my first one. Despite this, my account wasn’t getting much reach still so I was very stuck on what to do. 

Moment 3: Pivot

Unfortunately, after about a month of posting consistently every day, I began to realise how draining running this account every day was. I had initially ignored my tutors warning that it would be a lot of effort, I believed I would be able to handle it. And I was able to for the most part, it just got a bit repetitive and stressful having to do the same posting routine every day. Because of this, I stopped posting and started thinking of ways to reframe or pivot from my original idea. I came up with the idea to create weekly movie commentary videos on YouTube, keeping up the concept of watching and reviewing films, just in a different form. I touched on this in my week 9 progress post. This was a way better idea as I would have more time to watch the movie and have all week to edit the video, instead of rushing through editing a post every single day. I was inspired by what kinds of videos I could post to my reaction channel through a few other content creators I enjoy watching such as Ur Internet Mom Ash, Dylan is In Trouble, Trin Lovell and Caitlin Mckillop. Conclusion

At the time of writing this report, I have yet to start my reaction channel as I am still researching how to screen record films and avoid copyright strikes on YouTube. I think this new idea however will get much better engagement as reaction videos are a very popular genre on YouTube. I am excited to see where this project takes me in the future.
