Bits and pieces of the still incredibly written backstory of Elden Ring continue to poke out from the dogwater, as it were.
St. Trina, as we learn, was a specific aspect of Miquella that was made separate: In Miquella's words, St Trina was the embodiment of his 'love.' And when he abandoned St Trina, he abandoned that aspect of himself that made her.
This newly introduced example reveals to us what the nature of Radagon's exactly was, in turn.
Radagon, the 'other half' of Marika in the exact same way that St Trina had been for Miquella, we learn here, had *himself* been a specific singular aspect of Marika's emotions or feelings.
With St Trina having been made out of Miquella's 'love.'
You wonder, too, what Radagon should have been made from.
What aspect of herself did Marika separate into her second person, as called by her the "Loyal Dog of the Golden Order"? We know Radagon was created prior to the creation of the Golden Order itself, since he was involved in the invasion of Liurnia.
So at the same time as Marika was married to Godfrey, begetting Godwyn and Mogh and Morgott. Radagon was married to Renalla, begetting Rykard and Radahn and raising the potential successor of Marika--the Empyrean Ranni. He was given a massive amount of responsibility, the seeming crux of the Liurnian-Leyndell alliance that ended the Liurnian Wars that Marika's empire was losing, and he by every account was completely dedicated and successful; even weakening the strength of the Carian royal family by reducing their practicing of astrology.
All yet, when push came to shove: After Godwyn was assassinated and Marika sought to destroy the Elden Ring. It was Radagon who dropped everything he had and stepped in to stop her.
"Proudly" as his Golden Order Greatsword says,
Radagon divorced his first wife, married his 'original self,' begettedthe Twin Prodigies Miquella and Malenia as two more potential successors to Queen Marika, set up the brutal inquisition and censorship of the Age of Radagon headed by his own son Rykard, and was even involved with the very the development of Golden Order fundamentalism!
Radagon did so much fucking stuff! He was so damn proactive! So what exactly must he have been!?
That Marika initially separated from herself? And who went on to try and stop her very own plans when they turned against the wishes of the Greater Will??
This conflicting 'half' of her original person! That nonetheless was all this strongly willed on his own!?
What part of Marika COULD Radagon have originally been!?!?!?
And it's awesome. It's really really well-designed writing.
Frankly, even, it's genius. It's not anything revolutionary in terms of narrative devices or anything like that, but it's really elegant. It's really meaningful and concise, and it's really cool!!!
A lot of Elden Ring's base game is, or now maybe--was. (It having been the basis of my entire show on YouTube.)
But the actual story, instead of solely the backstory, of the DLC, unfortunately, is not!
You ever seen a boss item whose entire description was literally entirely the game just fucking QUOTING ITSELF?
Hyetta at Frenzied Flame Proscription: "Become their lord. Take their torment, despair. Their affliction. Every sin, every curse. And melt it all away. As the Lord of Chaos."
Ghost outside Church of Inhibition in Liurnia: "Ahh, Lord Vyke, it seems that you were no lord, after all."
Midras's Flame of Frenzy, from killing Midras, Lord of Frenzied Flame:
Or! Better yet, ANOTHER boss spell, whose entire description is dedicated to literally just acknowledging its fucking colour!!
Land of Shadows, from killing the Scadutree Avatar:
I definitely sure wish I still hadn't!!
In fact, I don't think the level of vacuousness from Shadow of the Erdtree's descriptions has ever been seen before!
Not even in Dark Souls 3!!
AUGH
#tlgtw ooc#erwset#elden ring#elden ring lore#shadow of the erdtree spoilers#shadow of the erdtree#queen marika#radagon of the golden order#miquella the unalloyed#st trina#Outright actually literally 0 meaningful information provided in either of these two items#each of them the 1 out of only 2 rewards available for beating a major boss.#these are also just two of the worse examples of some of the most meaningless fucking item description I've literally ever read#I could not fucking believe it when I finally beat these bosses at the very end of the DLC's completion. And that that was it.#Heck on earth#Why couldn't they have just delayed it

These are the games I played this year and a rough ranking on them. I say rough ranking because even with my cobbled-together categories, it's hard to sometimes rank games against each other because they have different parts that I like and some of these are effectively tied or close rather than a clear higher ranking.
I tried to include in this list just the games that I have either finished or put in a significant amount of time for the more casual ones so that I felt that I had a fair idea in my head of what the game had on offer. Most of these I played and finished on stream though a few, most notably all of the Hidden Object category, were played purely offline. Some games I started on stream with the intent of showcasing them to then take offline and play.
Okay so starting at the top! No, I will not be taking any comments about my category choices, thank you 🙃
Metroidvania/Roguelike/Soulslike
Ranking on image (with links to game page): Grime, Afterimage, Vernal Edge, Pronty, Lone Fungus, Going Under, The Last Case of Benedict Fox, Ghost Song, Faerie Afterlight
Read more under the cut
So as someone with very specific aesthetics, I would definitely choose Afterimage over Grime but yet here we are, with slightly creepy, very toothy game ranked highest in this category. Even in terms of having multiple areas to explore and backtracking, Afterimage would be my pick. However, Grime's parry system made me fall in love with the combat in the game and it was so satisfying that I actually speedran the game for a bit and then devoted time to making resources for the any% run. I still need to play the dlcs but even on base game alone this game gets my vote.
Afterimage was quite a lot of fun and the vibrant and bright art was such a treat and feast for my eyes. I also really liked the different weapons and how they changed the combat. I think the story could have been a little tighter but I just fully enjoyed the time I had in the game and getting to see the areas. I wish more games had this type of colour palette and I know the whole 'grim, and dark, and moody' bit sells but I'm slightly tired of it. The Afterimage world was post-apocalyptic (or in-game analogous) but it was presented in a different manner and there were still areas that weren't all lush, vibrant scenery.
Vernal Edge is a game that I remember feeling frustration in certain areas while playing it but also it lives in my mind and I still think about it so it's next on the list. The fighting is different than what I usually experience - it's a spectacle fighter style, and there is an interesting mechanic by which you cast 'spells' and also heal. I think the character was a bit slippery at times which led to some of the frustration in the platforming as mentioned earlier. The game has some good writing underpinning it though and travelling to different islands in the sky and exploring them was a neat way to put together the world.
Pronty is interesting that it is underwater and the art is beautiful; combat is a bit removed since you do not do the fighting but instead direct your javelin fish to do it.
Lone Fungus I wish I could like more but it was a lot more platforming and very precise platforming at that, which is not where my interests lie.
Going Under is doing the heavy lifting for including Roguelike into this category mashup and the reason for that is that it is a genre that I also do not tend to play for various reasons that I may go into in the future but not here. Still, if I had to pick a game from that genre, I'd say Going Under is a good one - there's some seriously great writing here from dev Aggro Crab and it's a quite hilarious commentary on startup culture in our current times.
Not really going to go through the rest of the games since I only want to type so much and there are a few other categories to go. However, those categories will be in a later reblog.

How would the companions seduce Sole - part I: the guys
Synth!Codsworth: He doesn’t intentionally seduce Sole; Although he may slowly realise his feelings are no longer platonic, his main play is waiting for Sole to figure it out. Whenever Sole then does realise what is going on, Codsworth figures that they can opt to ignore it so they continue to travel together, confront him which allows him to deny it if he deems it necessary or ideally allow things develop naturally in a positive manner. The latter not requiring him to make a move; succes! Nevertheless, Codsworth has seen all those romantic shows too and subtly tries to get closer to them. Sole considers it at least endearing when he tries come up with ideas of things they could do together. Codsworth has always seen happy picnics and going to the movies together as a means to ‘woo’ someone, so it’s dificult for him to figure out how to handle things now those places may spell danger instead. In the end, he mainly uses very genuine compliments to get Sole swooning. That and the way he just understands Sole because he’s been in her life so long ends up being the biggest turn-on for Sole.
Danse: He finds excuses to get more time away from them at first, when he’s still with the brotherhood. Seducing is not an option, he is not having any kind of... romanic entanglements when he has his duties to uphold. Then he realizes that he cannot stop thinking about them and does the opposite: constantly seeking their company. He tries to get them involved in things he likes to do in his downtime. His go-to place is armour, working on it with sole ideally. The fact that that gets him and Sole to both work up a sweat is just a very nice side-benefit that allows him to take his shirt off around them (and gauge their reaction) and that allows him to sneak a peak at Sole from time to time too. But when push comes to shove, if Sole wouldn’t shove him against that working bench for more than smithing, he isn’t gonna either. That is until they are together. Then he takes every spare moment he can to get to them. As far as words go, he eventually opts for some big ones, the kind that show Sole that he is a little bit more invested in their relationship than just being a companion. Danse has a way of making Sole feel like they’re the most important person in the world to him. Actually, they’re not entirely sure that that isn’t the case.
Preston: Chivalry isn’t dead because Preston is still out there. He praises Sole and looks at them as if they are a god(dess) and cannot believe he’s lucky enough to even be in their vincinity. He doesn’t actively try to seduce Sole that much (he wouldn’t know how best to handle that), but damn the lingering stares he does. When they walk into a room, when they walk out, when they are speaking to an audience,... he looks at them with pride and reverence and something quite different. Basically tension between them can be cut with a knife half the time. Any and every settler has at some point at the very least once left a room with them in it because they felt they were interrupting something just by the way he looks at his commanding officer. He jumps on the opportunity a little too fast if Sole shows any interest which makes for some laughs and smiles. The rest is babe-story.
MacCready: MacCready isn’t exactly a natural at flirting and needs Sole to take initiative there. The main way in which he tries to seduce Sole is by simply opening up to them more than to anyone, show his softer side and hope his hopes for a future with them don’t get crushed. He essentially does whatever he can to show Sole how important they are to him and beyond that just hopes that Sole gets the subtle hints. Hints such a letting Sole sleep an extra shift when they take turns to watch for enemies, protecting them to the extent he steals their kills, allowing them to sleep in his arms if they want to, giving up his own vest and scarf when they get cold, somehow always keeping snacks around that Sole likes... Once they’re together he suddenly regains his bravado to just randomly remind Sole that whenever they need a break from the battle or if they want to try something new he’s always game. .
Nick: Nick’s a gentlemen and a suave one at that. He mainly seduces by paying attention to them, by remembering the little things. That varies from the name of their childhood dog to the way they like their drinks. The only hiccup is that he in’t sure to which extent Sole would be interested in a heap of ‘scrap metal’ as he often considers himself to look like, ut it is not a hurdle. He is just fine with treating Sole right regardless, and not taking it any further. If anything, it allows him to be even more smooth because he feels like he has nothing to lose by it anyway. The only way Sole can really tell he’s doing it on purpose are the nicknames he chooses for them; they become terms of endearment. He does, however, ask them if that’s all righ first. Additionally: the man may have robotic limbs but he still remembers how to dance just fine, thank you very much. ;)
Deacon: Deacon knows how big of a part their shared sense of humor and ability to rapid fire sarcastic comments just makes him and sole *work* together, but when it comes to seducing sole he mainly uses a sense of almost reckless arrogance and banter to get Sole out of their concentration and in his arms. His quips become a little more suggestive at first, to test the waters and whether Sole is responding in kind, and turn into innuendo-loaden quips and battles of sarcasm, winks and grins that eventually drive Sole up the wall in all the best ways... especially because he is patient enough to never make the first move beyond that and somehow seems to use a deeper voice to talk to Sole when he really means business.
Gage: The main advantage of their ride-or-die lifestyle is that both Sole and Gage get their adrenaline pumping by fighting. Because of that, Gage knows well enough that the moment to suggest some time alone is right after a fight. Which coincidentially, is also when they’re most impressed with each other. Blood runs hot, one thing lead to another and before either of em knows it the porter and the boss are giving the most scarce variant of pillow talk a go. This also may mean he tries to actively seduce Sole by challenging her to a fight without weapons and if they’re up for it also not too many clothes. Beyond that, however, he always waits for their cue to continue the ‘fight’ below the belt.Last thing he wants to risk is confusing a sense of bloodthurst for something else. But the moment Sole kisses him, all bets are off.
Hancock Hancock may be a ghoul but he’s very physical. He knows exactly where and how to kiss Sole in such a way it’ll drive them mad and he knows it. More importantly, everything in his body language when he is near Sole shows it too. The sheer amount of self-confidence with which he approaches Sole is his secret weapon. He excels at suggestive grins and using a lower tone of voice to blatantly tell Sole -when he knows they are interested- how he feels when he feels it, which serves to be a a pretty devilish combo. Subtlety is not his game. When they don’ have the time or space to do anything specifically but if Sole does clearly show romantic (or even just sexual) interest in him, he also always seems to be standing extremely close and yet not close enough for Sole’s liking. When Sole finally would manage to get him into bed, he doesn’t hesitate to drag it out and be a total tease to them.
X6-88: X6 would take a very long time to even consider making a move on Sole. What comes first is a thorough analysis of the way they have been behaving aorund him, and it is only when he is convinced that he isn’t just reading into things what he wants to that he acts. X6 tends to be so focused, so composed, that the moment he is alone with Sole (or knows only they can hear him) and he makes a quip or a jab at Sole -especially out of the blue- it stands out. He knows Sole is particularly sensitive to knowing X6 lets his true colours shine through only for them. X6 gets to Sole by saying things that an easily be taken two ways: a dubious way and a very innocent remark. But also by not behaving the way he ought to as their protector but the way wants to as their lover. X6 just stops supressing his more human nature from time to time in subtle ways. When those rare comments are of a sexual nature... well he doesn’t even have to put in much of an effort.
Maxson: Maxson challenges Sole. He asks them to go on increasingly more responsibility-demanding jobs and seeks to see them thrive. This also allows him to discuss tactics with them until late in the night if need be. He doesn’t want to risk coming on too strong and have Sole feeling pressured into anything. Instead, he takes these moments as a chance to get insight in several ways. He allows Sole to ask more personal questions, if they answer some personal questions in return. It gives him a chance to let Sole to see him as something else than ‘The Elder’ when they are alone. He drops his posture a little, relaxes, leans forward to express interest when they talk. He shows them that he’s more than his rank and also only allows them to really go head-to-head against him. The more challenging the mission, the more he can be found subtly protecting Sole. Not against incoming enemies, Sole’s got that covered just fine, but against those who may be against their presence in the Brotherhood for any ungrounded reason. He makes sure people know they are under his protection. If need be he takes up responsibility for some more reckless actions of Sole’s, after which he just tells them to see him in his office for a debrief on their mission. In closed quarters, when Sole asks him about it he pretends he has no idea what they are talking about with a hint of a conspiratory smile.
Upon request by an anon (the Far Harbor DLC ones are gonna be shorter because these characters are... harder for me to grasp cause I’m not as extremely familiar with them. I know you also asked for Faraday but I can’t grasp him quite yet. But give me time ;) ): DiMa DiMa doesn’t really flirt. DiMa is upfront, compliments Sole just straight-up asks them whether and how they want to be ‘courted’. If anything, what marks his flirting is his patience and honesty about his feelings. He likes to tell Sole about his dreams of the future, and how he would like them to include Sole if they so wish. He paints pictures of love and peace. Aside from that; if Sole takes 5 minutes or 5 years to return their feelings, DiMa does not mind to wait. This also may mean a relationship may be put on the long track if Sole is equally bad at taking the initiative there.

My current thoughts on Ace Attorney’s Future
So by now you are most likely aware of the recent Ace Attorney news Capcom put out, and also some stuff that’s been leaked, ill give a brief rundown before going into my thoughts in case you missed it(excuse the poor grammar , I didn’t have that much time to spell check lol)
-Capcom has announced that Ace Attorney games will be moving to the switch and that they will be releasing one between April 2018-April 2019
-Leaks from Kotaku UK: First half of next year will have two Switch releases of compilations, one for AA123, other AA456. And a third brand new game feat. Phoenix Wright will release before April 2019 worldwide launch for Switch and smartphones
(ALSO take this with a grain of salt like all leaks, im just more trusting with this once since I don’t Kotaku would try and fake AA news since it is a niche series and there isn’t that much to gain from it, and the person leaking has been correct with that huge Mario Rabbids leak)
Now this news came outta nowhere but here are my brief (not really lol )thoughts on them
-Ace Attorney Games no more on 3ds
This was always in the cards, given franchises like Pokemon, moving away from it and the Switch’s mobility. It was very good of them to announce that they still plan on releasing new games for Ace Attorney and that the series isn’t over in my opinion .
I personally thought that if AA7 came out on the 3ds it would be the last one in the franchise, like no more AA afterwards(I expand on this below).
But this Switch news made me reconsider that theory, as now I believe Capcom is going to keep on pumping them out because the profits they make on it must be pretty decent in their eyes., like the cost of making them must not be as expensive as we would believe. So expect some “brand new” plotlines that will be expanded upon in AA8 etc
-Compilations
Very smart move given the next news on AA7. AA6 led to a big issue, in that, you probably wouldn’t enjoy the game as much if you never played the first 5. If they just released AA7 on the Switch straight away, they would be assuming every switch owner has played the other 6 AA games, so this would at least bring everyone up to speed.
Given some stuff I go into further below, I would be thinking, Capcom would be looking into the sales of these very closely in regards to DGS and AAi2…
-what about AJ on 3ds
Apollo Justice is still coming to the 3ds at the end of the month, and now im thinking, what is the point? The above leak is actually incredibly damaging to sales for this as most people can just wait for the compilation on the Switch to then play it.
There are ofc people who don’t have a switch (like me) and some who want to play AJ on the 3ds but I feel like this leak has made a few people reconsider their purchase of AJ (which is gunna do so much damage to Capcom’s sales forecast for that game…. :/ ).
Like you know how quiet the AA twitter is usually, they might have announced the compilations early next year after people already bought it (and maybe that might have angered a few more people to rebuy it again lol)
-Featuring Phoenix Wright
Now ill try and keep this spoiler free but the “feat. Feenie” leaves a big question, where is Apollo? Does that mean all 5 cases are playing as Phoenix? Dlc cases with Apollo? Or are they going to release an Apollo game later (because in an interview for SoJ, they were toying with the idea of SoJ being two separate full games like Pokemon Red and Blue, where one only with Phoenix, and the other only with Apollo). So maybe a game featuring just Apollo in 2019?
Now im not sure what the reaction to that is on this site, but I know a lot of people on Twitter have been rolling their eyes that the whole game is once again only Phoenix, when they feel his story is done. Me personally, I don’t really mind, as I view AA456 Phoenix as a different character to AA123, so im happy there’s at least an AA7 game coming, regardless of who you play as.
Earlier I mentioned how I thought AA7 would be the final AA game ever if it was on the 3ds, and with that I was thinking it would be the biggest fanservice game ever (like Gumshoe, Kay, Franziska coming back, and other past characters returning in the biggest best(est) sendoff ever, like maybe even a dlc case where you play as Edgeworth with Kay helping and gumshoe, Franziska all there, and like the crime scenes being old places but with new twists, and just finalising every plotpoint ever (Iris and Kay where are you??).
But since it ISNT the final game, I think it will be kind of like Dual Destinies, instead of answering questions, they will pose new ones, and introduce even more new characters to the already bloated cast which im not too happy about. Prepare for a new colourful Maya clone that has a new gameplay ability to turn the tide in court! (I still love Athena mmmmmk?), Also, wanna bet that one dialogue we want between Phoenix, Trucy and Apollo about a certain relationship wont be revealed til postgame AGAIN? :P
-Worldwide launch
This is probably the ABSOLUTE BEST NEWS to come out of all of this. No longer will we need to wait through the months, wondering if we bought enough copies to make them consider localizing. Now we can play them game at the same time as Japan! Although with this series, I never had a big issue with spoilers unlike Danganronpa, like people weren’t going out of their way to spoil SoJ like they did with V3. But its stil great news that we know that AA7 will be coming west!
-Digital
-The switch has a big digital only library, -games are not tied to your console anymore, -they are tied to your account, so if you Switch dies, -you wont lose the games purchase. SO yes I do think all 3 of the Switch games will be digital only, this is clearly the route Capcom wants for us westerners and I don’t think anything short of a miracle in sales will change that :(
-Smartphones
Now this is an issue for me personally. Hearing AA7 being on the switch made me so happy, as it opens up the endless possibilities to the gameplay.
SoJ had so many improvements to character model movements and what they did with the 3ds hardware. So thinking a Switch only AA7 game would be amazing in terms of what they could do with the models, UI, gameplay etc.
Deep down I always wished Capcom would try and be like Spike Chunsoft and add extra gameplay to their visual novel hybrids, like danganronpa. As in, its honestly absurd at how much extra content is in v3 considering they are both just murder mystery VNs, and they is clearly no reason for them to add so much extra content. Like AA has never even had post game content at all, so maybe on the switch they can try some things like danganronpa, like an AU mode, or some silly board game thing, just stuff that doesn’t harm the main story, but is nice for diehard fans to keep opening up the game.
HOWEVER since its apparently on mobile I don’t think any of that will happen. Yes Im happy people who like mobile gaming can play it, and yes not everyone can afford consoles, and yes phones are like mini computers these days in terms of power. But from Capcom’s point of view, if they want to sell it to as many people as possible, they need to consider a lot of people will still have old phones, so trying anything amazing in gameplay features might not work on an old phone, leading to loss of sales in the mobile side. And we all know how much Capcom likes money. So personally im disappointed but not that much, this is just a deep feeling ive always wanted from AA, just more in game content and extra things to do. And seeing how SoJ improved SO MUCH on the DD models, I just wanted them to go even beyond that. But hey maybe now at least they can do 3d models for investigating and pretend its an investigation game , RIP Kay’s return :’)
-localizedgs and aai2
And ofc the usual, LOCALIZE DGS AND AAI2. Considering all the news, and given how poorly Marvel vs Capcom Infinite sold(it’s actually shocking at how bad it sold, maybe because no Phoenix in it? :P ), and how long it took for RE7 to reach its sales goal(1.5years), I don’t think DGS will ever be localized, at least not for a few more years. The cost of licensing to Sir Arthur Conan Doyles Estate is clearly too much for Capcom to release an even more niche game than AA(the average person will see it doesn’t have Feenie and wont buy it).
HOWEVER given their love of compilations and ports recently, there is STILL a chance they will port a DGS1&2 game to the switch, maybe around 2020. This being after they see the sales to the first 2 compilations. So don’t buy Battlefront 2 and support bad lootbox behaviour, save that money to buy AA on the switch ;) And regarding AAi2, look im probably the biggest fan who wants a new AAI3 more than AA7 (I even made a video about it lol), but considering AA7 will be made by the AAi team, that aint happening. Now all hope would be lost, if not for the simple fact that, in 2017, just recently, AAi had an encore stage play performance in Japan . Meaning even though this play ran last year, they had enough demand to do it again this year. So Capcom clearly has some plans with Miles and crew, and hopefully if the compilations sell well, they will make a Switch port of AAi and AAi2, and hopefully Kay will live once more! :P
-Takumi
And finally to the man himself, Shu Takumi(creator of AA if you didn’t know). After spending time making DGS 1 and 2, and with how poor their sales were, I don’t think there will be a DGS3. And I don’t think he will come back for AA7 (if it was the final game like my earlier theory, I was hoping he would come back for some fanservice lol, like he would bring his charm back and work it on the new characters which might have been fun). This is disappointing as his writing with the characters is on another level compared to the new games .
E.g play SoJ and the professor Layton crossover game, back to back, and notice how different the dialogue is with Phoenix and Maya. Takumi (who wrote the Layton game) clearly understands his characters so well, and you can feel Maya and Phoenix’s personality just flow seamlessly with each other, like the professor game honestly felt like a case from the trilogy even though I played it waaaay later. He has stated he is done with the main line AA games(iirc), and how he would hate making more cases than needed (like him not wanting to make the fifth case in AA1 when Capcom first localized it, since the GBA game had only 4 cases and Capcom wanted him to make one more case to sell again). So I don’t think he will make AA7 or DGS3, which means HOPEFULLY he is free to make what he wants, and we can get another amazing separate game like Ghost Trick ANYWAY that’s been my rambleeeeeeeeeeee
TL;DR Ace Attorney isn’t dead, Capcom loves the franchise but not as much as you want, please buy the compilation ports, even if you have the games, money speaks to this company that runs our favourite game franchise :/
And final silly point: I don’t have a Nintendo Switch, Zelda BOTW, Mario Odyssey, Splatoon2, FE Warriors didn’t convince me to buy a Switch. I will now be buying a Switch for AA7, THIS SERIES WILL BE THE END OF MEEEEEEEEEEE

👌I’m slow to meme. @john-cousland tagged me the other day and I’m finally stumbling out of a writing trip for air (pull me back down though, I prefer to write breathlessly, thanks). @puppypopcornpizza tagged me too and since you all don’t need twenty questions about me, I’m cherry-pickin’. I also contemplated answering as an OC, but I won’t put you guys through that much pain.
A song that describes how you’re feeling right this second? Honestly, I am exhausted right now. And there’s an entire album that comes to mind for me. In high school I used to play my favorite Coldplay CD -- A Rush of Blood to the Head -- on my stereo boombox every night as I went to bed. It’s such a soothing album. Try it. Nothing makes more more relaxed and sleepy than this album. I love it for all time. 🎶You came along and you cut me loose.
Look up from your screen and answer with the colour of the first object you see. Royal Peacock Blue. Somehow I remembered my paint color on my accent wall four years later (I even verified with the can in the basement).
Spell your URL backwards. ememrama (my url’s nonsense anywhoosy)
A song for your OTP? Verita x Michel: Death of a Bachelor by FOB. I swear, it’s perfect.
What’s the dumbest reason you pulled an all nighter? To play a DAI, but that’s not really dumb right? We can all agree here.
If you could trade places with a fictional character for a day, who would you pick and why? @john-cousland your answer was the best answer of all time. Let's go with that, but instead of Bruce Wayne I want to be a lady billionaire. I have never realized this before, but there are hardly any rich female characters. I’m going to go with Lara Croft because that’s the only lady I can think of who is badass and flush with cash. This needs to be remedied.
What’s your go-to alcoholic beverage? Don’t drink? What’s your favorite smoothie or milkshake? Beer: Fat Tire or Ranger IPA (and the limited release Schadenfreude from Surly Brewing 👌)
When did you have your first kiss? 16. I was a late bloomer I guess.
Who was your first fictional crush and why? Alistair Theirin. I can’t remember ever crushing on fictional character so hard. I created endless characters to romance the floofy, ridiculous warrior.
When did you first start playing Dragon Age? Which game did you start with and have you played all of them? 2010 -- As soon as DA:O came out. I didn’t play any of the DLCs for that, nor the DA2 ones (though I did recently download them so I can experience them, eventually).
What’s a project you’re really proud of? The Shelved Works of Varric Tethras. I just really love that story, okay? I reread it often. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
See question 1: I am so tired right now, I can’t think of any questions. Also, I am too lazy to see who has already been tagged. So consider yourself marked, folks.

Fire Emblem Warriors Idea
NOTE: I started writing this prior to the Fire Emblem Warriors reveal, so characters that the trailer weapons indiciate are likely in (Chrom, Ryoma, and Xander) are not on my list. I wanted to get this post out before the Jan 18 Fire Emblem Direct, however, to see how well the final product matches up with my estimates. I wrote the last half of the list today (Jan 16), but based on the list I had written out in 2015.
I recently obtained Hyrule Warriors Legends, the Warriors spinoff to the Legend of Zelda series. The Warriors games are basically beat-em-ups that have you go against huge numbers of enemies with very stylish and ridiculous movesets. Legend of Zelda adapted quite well, so I thought about how Fire Emblem could adapt.
Based on there being 16 characters in Hyrule Warriors at base, I outlined the following characters and fighting styles that I think would work best (and still be realistic) in those limits:
1. Marth (Shadow Dragon, Mystery of the Emblem)
I don’t need to explain why Marth should be in this.
Style 1: Rapier
The Rapier is a common Lord-specific sword seen throughout the FE series which grants extra damage against heavy armor and horseback units, often to mitigate the fact that Lord characters start off weak, have late promotions (if any), and are required for every map. In FE Warriors, it would probably adapt by having good guard-crushing abilities, or high chip damage on block. Very single-target focused, and fairly quick. More depth than width in terms of range.
Style 2: Falchion and Fire Emblem
The Falchion is Marth’s iconic sword, and is used by a few others in the series. To help make sure Marth’s version is unique, I combined it with the Fire Emblem itself (which is a shield in Marth’s version). In addition to Falchion sword attacks, he could presumably use shield bashes, and a block-counter.Might as well incorporate his Super Smash Brothers moveset into this too.
ALTERNATE OUTFITS: Shadow Dragon (default outfit)
King Marth (FE3)
NES Cover Tunic
Smash (slightly different from Shadow Dragon)
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE
Itsuki’s Lord outfit (Tokyo Mirage Sessions)
Sheeda Colour Scheme (Shadow Dragon)
2. Ike (Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn)
Another notable FE main character, and one of the most popular. He’s also one of the few non-royal main characters in the series, and he’s got an Amiibo. I think he’s a shoe-in.
1. Ragnell
Ike’s trademark sword is already impressive when used one-handed despite it’s size. The addition of the blue light projectiles would make it even better. I imagine Aether would also be Ike’s super with this weapon. Note that this should work closer to how Ike fights in his respective games rather than the unusual “slow and strong” style they gave him in Smash. I imagine it would be very jump-based. Many air-to-ground attacks. Could still have fairly wide hitting attacks, and could be among the slower of the medium speed weapons. I could see some rapid-fire Rangell beam attacks, or just a super big beam as a finisher.
2. Urvan
Urvan is polearm-type Axe used by Ike’s father Greil. Upon promotion, Ike gains the ability to use axes, and is even able to wield Urvan in Radiant Dawn. It would probably be the slow and strong counterpart to the Ragnell’s faster moveset, more ranged moveset. This would be closer to the Smash moveset. It could arguably also be thrown as a hand-axe. I very specifically can imagine Ike having a move where he does a step-in with some armor frames, than a huge swing to strike multiple foes.
ALTERNATE OUTFITS:
Path of Radiance (Default)
Lord (Path of Radiance)
Hero (Radiant Dawn/Smash 4)
Vanguard (Radiant Dawn)
Awakening DLC outfit
Griel’s Armor (Path of Radiance)
3. Lyn (Blazing Sword)
Lyn has the benefit of being a main Lord in the first FE game released internationally. She’s also the first character you meet in that game, and is generally quite popular among fans (including me, as she is my favourite Lord).
Style 1: Mani Katti
The Mani Katti is a katana usable only by Lyn. As expected from a katana moveset, it would probably be high-speed and low-power. It would incorporate an Iado style. So when using an attack, it would be slightly different depending on if her sword is sheathed or not. Her sheathed sword abilities should be stronger, so you would need to fight smarter instead of continuously throwing out attacks since she’d need a moment out of attacks to re-sheathe the katana. She could have a giant glowing sword swipe for a finisher based on the Mani Katti’s glow when she first wrestles it from Glass.
Style 2: Sol Katti + Short Bow
The Sol Katti is the sister-blade to the Mani Katti, and takes the form of a long slim blade. Lyn gets unique attack animations with this weapon which heavily rely on creating after-image clones; the Warriors gameplay would probably exaggerate that into something great. Lyn also gains access to Bows on promotion, so those could be including in this moveset as well. This moveset would allow her to do her full attack set at quite a range. Finishers could include rapid-fire bow shots, and the after-image based techniques.
ALTERNATE OUTFITS:
Main Outfit (default)
Blade Lord (Blazing Sword)
Awakening
Rath’s Outfit (Blazing Sword)
4. Sigurd (Genealogy of the Holy War)
Though relatively unknown to non-Japanese FE fans, Sigurd is quite popular and hails from one of the most critically acclaimed games in the series; Genealogy of the Holy War. Only seems fair to add him in this. As a note, I have played very little of his game, so this might not be the best representation.
Style 1: Horseback Sword + Silver Sword
Unlike Link’s horseback weapon in which Epona herself damages enemies, this moveset would have Sigurd attack with his Silver Sword while on horseback. Some moves may involve the horse attacking, but very few compared to the weapon. It would be a moveset heavily based upon continuing to move. It would be cool if it could somehow incorporate the Dismount feature to allow Sigurd to do some stand-alone techniques while the horse distracts or rounds up foes. I could definitely see that as a finisher.
ALTERNATE OUTFITS:
Blue/White Cape Knight Lord (default)
Blue/Red Cape Knight Lord (Genealogy of the Holy War)
5. Robin (Awakening)
I may not think Awakening is a good FE game, but I can’t dispute that it saved the series. Robin is also a rare character that can effectively use both weapons and offensive magic, so that helps with movesets. I believe the male Robin is the better design, so I chose him.
Style 1: Sword and Anima Tomes
His basic Tactician fighting style; simultaneously using a sword as well as Anima spells. I don’t think the Levin Sword is necessarily needed though; I’d prefer a standard sword so that the Levin Sword doesn’t steal spotlight from his tomes, but I can’t deny the design is now iconic to him. So long as he is limited to mostly close-range attacks with the sword, and relies on Anima for long-range. He would also not get Nosferatu, unlike Smash. He can’t get Dark Magic without reclassing in Awakening.
ALTERNATE OUTFITS:
Tactician (Default)
Grandmaster (Awakening)
Hooded Tactician (Awakening)
Chrom Colour-Scheme (Awakening)
6. Corrin (Fates)
As the star of the most recent FE game, Corrin is a given. And while Robin has the better male design, Corrin has a better female design by far.
Style 1: Yato
The chainsaw-style blade that is the Yato could have some interesting abilities if they double-down on the chainsaw aspect to keep it unique from other standalone sword styles. They can also throw in a little bit of Anima (from her Nohr promotion) and staves (from her Hoshido promotion) in addition to her partial dragon transformations seen in her critical and skill animations.
Style 2: Dragonstone
This would be using the Dragonstone to do a full transformation into that...deer dragon thing Corrin turns into. Lots of physical attacks with wide ranges, armor frames, and really slow startups. Some water-based ranged attacks as well.
ALTERNATE OUTFITS:
Noble (default)
Nohr Noble (Fates)
Hoshido Noble (Fates)
Azura Colour Scheme (Fates)
Ryouma Colour Scheme (Fates)
Xander Colour Scheme (Fates)
Camilla Colour Scheme (Fates)
Takumi Color Scheme (Fates)
7. Ephraim (Sacred Stones)
Ephraim is the only Lord to primarily use a lance, and in many ways he’s basically just of the Soldier class (which is famously underutilized as a player class except in a rare few games). He’s also the more interesting of the twins in Sacred Stones both in character and fighting style.
Style 1: Reginleif Lance
Ephraim’s initial trademark weapon is the green lance Reginleif. Though strictly a close-range weapon in SS, he could use it as a javelin in this game to pin enemies away from him. It also gives him good range on his normals, but would likely be more about striking far back into enemies groups rather than across a wide area. He would also spin it a lot, as GBA characters often did for critical animations.
ALTERNATE OUTFITS:
Sacred Stones (Default)
Awakening
Eirika Colour Scheme (Sacred Stones)
8. Micaiah (Radiant Dawn)
Micaiah was met with a mixed reaction, but the fact remains that she is the primary character of Radiant Dawn at least as much as Ike, if not more. She’s also a rare Light Mage in the series, so I think she definitely needs to be incorporated.
Style 1: Light Magic
Her primary fighting style, Micaiah would use all Light Tomes from Radiant Dawn with this set. Her finishers should be primarily based around her unique spell Thani. This set would take on the main magic properties of FE in doing a lot of damage against armored foes. It could incorporate Guard Crushes. I see her standard attacks having slow startup, but the projectiles themselves being fast once out.
Style 2: Staff and Yune
This is a bit of an unusual choice, but I think it can work in a Warriors game. This would rely on Micaiah not just beating people up with a staff, but also incorporating the status ailments of the staff to do things like paralyze and poison foes. Her actual finishers would be based around Yune’s bird forms and create blue-light projectiles of birds. Her super would definitely be summoning a giant Yune light-bird to cause havoc.
ALTERNATE OUTFITS:
Light Mage (Default)
Light Sage (Radiant Dawn)
Light Priestess (Radiant Dawn)
Awakening
Sothe Colour Scheme (Radiant Dawn)
9. Roy
It’s no secret that I don’t like Roy. He exists in a game with Support Conversations, so characters can get much better development. And yet he’s as static as Marth, who was limited to an NES game with no Support Conversations. That said, he is a Lord, and the Sword of Seals can make for a great moveset. Plus Smash gave him popularity.
Style 1: Sword of Seals
His signature flaming sword would be almost completely based around its fire-attribute in this game to help it stand out. He is basically “the fire character” in my head here. He’d shoot fireballs, have fire-slashes that can linger in the air to continuously damage foes, create an AoE explosion around himself, and would have at least one finisher where he creates a stream of fire shaped like a dragon. Let’s use that weapon to make even Roy as cool as possible!
ALTERNATE OUTFITS:
Lord (Default)
Master Lord (Sword of Seals)
Awakening/Smash 4
Smash Melee (different enough from Smash 4)
Eliwood (Blazing Sword, not old-man Sword of Seals design)
10. Celica (Gaiden)
Now I haven’t played Gaiden, so it may be objectively wrong to put Celica in over Alm in terms of importance. But based on not having played it, I’d rather take the chance to add another character who seems more magic-based compared to Alm seemingly being another sword-slinger.
Style 1: Priestess Magic
Gaiden involves characters learning spells by levels, so Celica luckily has an existing movest to pull from. She gets the standard Fire and Thunder offensive spells that many FE games have. She also gets:
Angel, an attack which summons angels to swarm against foes. She could summon them as a spiraling barrier here, and choose to either keep them for defense or fire them off as an attack.
Recover, a powerful heal. Not sure this would work here, but maybe she could have a very slow self-heal that is tough to pull off.
Excalibur, which shoots blades of wind. Could have push-back in addition to damage.
Ragnarok, the big explosive fire spell. This would likely be saved as her super.
In addition to these, I feel like some of her common non-finisher attacks could involve sword slashes.
If we want to be really unique, we could give her a Level mechanic where she gains levels mid-battle, and gains access to the higher level spells as she gets to those higher levels. These would be levels reset every battle, not the standard levels of Warriors.
ALTERNATE OUTFITS:
Priestess (Default)
Awakening
Alm Colour Scheme
11. Lief (Thracia 776, Genealogy of the Holy War)
Leif is again a character I am not overly familiar with. I do know, however, that he is the main character of Thracia 776, and that’s worth getting into my hypothetical FE Warriors roster.
Style 1: Light Brand
Leif’s Light Brand would help distinguish him from other sword users by incorporating light magic into his attacks. These would not always come as projectiles; they could come in the form of building the size of his sword through light. I have two ideas for unique elements for Leif.
The first would be having the Light Brand grow in size as a separate meter grows. Using a super, however, would revert the meter to zero. So you would have to choose between better range and damage on normal moves, or getting the big attack.
The second gimmick would be based around his Continue skill, which allows him to sometimes get an extra attack in. I believe there should be a small window of opportunity where Leif can interrupt his own attack to get in an additional faster (but likely weaker) attack. This would require strict timing, but could heavily increase the rate of his attacks if used properly.
ALTERNATE OUTFITS:
Prince (Default)
Master Knight (Thracia 776)
Awakening
12. Hector (Blazing Sword)
The only Lord who primarily uses an axe, and a Lord from my favourite FE title.
Style 1: Armads
The legendary axe of thunder. This thing is gigantic, and can also generate lightning. Expect a slow style that has surprising range and very magic-based finishers that tap into the lightning aspect. It couldn’t really shoot lightning in the base game, but that’s fine. Got to style things up a bit for Warriors.
Style 2: Wolf Beil and Sword
Okay, so Hector mainly uses the small Wolf Beil axe in his non-promoted form, and he doesn't get swords until he promoted. I know. But Armads deserves to be a style on its own, so putting the sword here helps differentiate the two axe styles a bit better. He would still primarily fight with the Wolf Beil axe, and it would be much faster than his typical Armads style. This comes at the cost of way less range in all directions on normals. The main use of his swords would probably be attacks to move in so he can use his axe.
ALTERNATE OUTFITS:
Lord (default)
Great Lord (Blazing Sword)
Sword of Seals Bearded-General
Eliwood Colour Scheme
13. Lucina (Awakening)
I wasn’t initially planning to put in Lucina. I was planning to use this spot for Azura from Fates; a Songstress with a nagitana and water abilities is far more interesting. But there’s no way Lucina isn’t getting in between her popularity, her Smash appearance, and her Amiibo. And I certainly don’t dislike her. She can also still be unique despite wielding the Falchion again.
Style 1: Parallel Falchion and Spear
The focus would be on the Parallel Falchion, but the Spear would add a bit of extra variety. Contrary to Smash, Lucina’s use of the Falchion is extremely different from Marth’s. It’s much more acrobatic and generally aerial, not to mention based around spins. I think primarily I would make her gimmick being able to easily launch enemies into the air, and continue to deal aerial attacks. Not quite fly, but definitely get good airtime. This means she would usually concentrate on a smaller number of foes (since she needs to be able to juggle them) compared to most other characters and styles. I imagine this would make her great for boss fights (though maybe not Giant Boss fights, if those are around). I’d also add a lot of butterfly effects for style on finishers. Even just have butterflies fly around after landing a finisher.
ALTERNATE OUTFITS:
Lord (default)
Great Lord (Awakening)
Masked “Marth” (Awakening)
Soundtrack Cover White Dress (Awakening)
Chrom Colour Scheme
14. Tiki (everything, basically)
Tiki has been in both of Marth’s FE games, Awakening, and Tokyo Mirage Sessions as an important character. She is easily the most notable Manakete in the series. Her younger form is also more iconic than her Awakening “I like Terra Branford” look.
Style 1: Divinestone
As opposed to Corrin who turns into some strange deer-dragon and fights with physical attacks, Tiki turns into your more standard fantasy dragon and fights with dragon breath. Specifically green divine dragon breath. The main gimmick would be choosing whether or not to transform. In her human form, she would be faster but take more damage, and her first few weak attacks (and arguably first finisher) would be in her human form with childish punches and swipes. After hitting that minimum level of attacks, or through hitting a certain command, she would transform into the dragon and gain a sizable defense and power boost. But she’d move across the map slower. Situations where you need to get somewhere fast would therefore require human form, but battles would require the dragon.
ALTERNATE OUTFITS:
Shadow Dragon (default)
Mystery of the Emblem (just barely different enough)
Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE
Awakening Colour Scheme
15. Gharnef (Shadow Dragon)
The original big bad of Fire Emblem, and the sole Dark Magic user in this crossover. He’s also made his way around a number of games.
Style 1:Imhullu
This is a tough one; Gharnef’s trademark Imhullu spell makes him invincible to all but a very particular spell (Starlight). But hey, Ganondorf can only be killed by the Master Sword, and that didn’t make a different in Hyrule Warriors gameplay. The attack portion of the spell generally appears as demonic heads that fly at enemies. To take his invincibility somewhat into account, Gharnef’s super could give him invincibility for 15 or so seconds. Otherwise...give him those skulls, and throw some generic Dark Magic animations as well.
Style 2: Medeus
This would be more of a summoning skillset. Gharnef could use some basic magic attacks for some animations, but this would mostly involve summoning the dragon Medeus to rain terror on enemies. Once the dragon is out, you would control it directly while Gharnef stays in place. The dragon could only go a set distance from Gharnef, and would be un-summoned if the druid sustains enough damage.
ALTERNATE OUTFITS:
Shadow Dragon (default)
Tokyo Mirage Sessions
Gotoh Colour Scheme (Shadow Dragon)
16. Black Knight (Path of Radiance, Radiant Dawn)
For the final character, I decided we needed another villain. After Gharnef, the most iconic villain is Tellius’ Black Knight.
Style 1: Alondite
The Alondite sword isn’t quite as flashy as Ragnell, but it is a powerful blessed sword with ranged attacks. In comparison to Ike, the Black Knight’s style would be more deliberate and patient. He would have a powerful counter based on the Nihil skill. He could also incorporate warping into his moveset to cover distance more than his likely slow run speed.
ALTERNATE OUTFITS:
Path of Radiance (Default)
Radiant Dawn
Zelgius (Radiant Dawn)
------
So there we have it. My (realistic) preference for a Fire Emblem Warriors roster, and how characters would play. Curious to see how much ends up being true since the game is now confirmed to exist.
QUICK BONUS: First DLC character will be Anna. Of course.
