I've been working on a playlist for Jessamine, and flipping through my Watcher playlists, most of them have an leaning towards an artist or even specific album.
Lillian's is The Indigo Girls, and honestly sometimes I just listen straight to Restrospective for Lillian vibes.
Amaryllis is Brandi Carlile, specifically The Firewatcher's Daughter.
Hazel is pretty mixed, but has a slight leaning to Brandi Carlile, Bear Creek.
Cal is also pretty mixed, but with a slight preference to Natalie Merchant and Sarah McLachlan.
And then there's Jessamine, whose leading artist is Stevie Nicks.
#this is a sampling of my musical preference if somewhat homogeneous in vibe#I think what this says about me is that I will put together playlists in other genres#like classic rock or aughts pop#but when left to my own devices I fall into the folk/rock/country intersection#watcher lillian#watcher amaryllis#watcher hazel#watcher calendula#watcher jessamine#talia doesn't have a playlist#I tried once and couldn't come up with anything I liked#artemisia technically has one but I'm meh on it and her game has kinda been abandoned#but all the brambles siblings do have their own playlists!#heather's is similar to hazels in tone#hollis is sweeping instrumentals#hyacinth is pop-y#and honeysuckle's is like southern rock classics#jessamine wound up with stevie nicks because I've been listening to trouble in shangri-la at the same time as I've been working on her#but the overall vibe of the album isn't necessarily her?#so I've been sampling more lyrically appropriate stevie nicks songs from across time

i’m currently sitting on my window sill, sipping some chai latte (made with almond milk because i can’t stand cow milk and am most likely allergic to it) an just spending time on my own. this morning, i actually got up reasonably early to go to the shops with my mum to get some groceries. i thought i’d bee half dead by noon as i only fell asleep around 3:30, but i’m holding up incredibly well for around four hours of sleep. i have the same spotify playlist on repeat that i have been having on repeat for the past few days. i titled it for the purpose it was originally meant for: “love songs to write love stories to” i haven’t really written anything besides tumblr posts and text messages to friends and family in the last few days, so i haven’t used it for its initial purpose, but i’ll get around to it eventually.
the reason i actually started writing this post was because i wanted to write about the nature surrounding my window and my family’s house. so first of all, there are two large rose bushes in front of my window. because the basement is above ground quite a bit, the rose bushes’ tops are at one level with my window sill. from time to time, there are birds, especially tomtits and great titmice and sometimes even a blackbird, that pick on the dried fruit from last year. they only do that when the window’s closed though, and since it’s been rather warm for the past two weeks, i don’t see them as often. beneath my window, there’s also some ramson growing all over the place. i’m glad my sense of smell isn’t exceptionally great, since it’s blossoming season and ramson, if you’ve never come in contact with it, tends to have a fairly potent smell that’s somewhat garlicy. the only thing i’m able to smell at the moment is the lilac blooming all around, practically all our neighbours have some in their gardens. what i noticed earlier was that a) our immediate neighbours speak russian and afterwards that they have either raspberries or brambles (blackberries) growing up to their lilac tree - well, it’s not yet a tree, but it’s on its way there. from what i can tell, i’d say it’s more likely that the plant is a blackberry bush, but i can’t be 100% sure lol.
when i was in kindergarten, i learnt a lot about plants. one of my favourite plants of spring are, to this day, windflowers. they are found in large quantities in forests during i believe march and april, helping to tease us with the first green of spring. since my kindergarten was in a forest and we were out in it most of the time, i would see windflowers every spring for about 5 years (because my siblings went to the same kindergarten and i managed to see some even when i was already in school). i realised that i hadn’t lost my knowledge about plants last summer when my siblings and i spent two weeks in austria with my dad. since the region where we stayed is in the middle of the alps, there are lots of interesting hiking trails and because especially my dad and his girlfriend, but my younger siblings as well, are more sporty then i am, we went on a few hikes. don’t be mistaken, i thoroughly enjoyed most of it, but i think i didn’t go with them on one hike because of my ankles is not really excited about to much physical action including it. my dad and i talked about plants that we saw, and i was able to learn a bit more about some that i hadn’t known prior. i think i want to take part in a course about plants when this whole lockdown and pandemic thing is over. i know about a few that are edible and a few that are good to make tea of, but i’m still curious and want to learn more about the plants around me. also, mushrooms. i know absolutely nothing about mushrooms, and i think the only relative i have that might know at least some things about mushrooms doesn’t talk to us anymore (which is for the best, believe me).
so yeah, just a little ramble about stuff i’m thinking about.

"You're mine."
The tears streamed down as her face as she looked at him for the first time. His eyes glinted with insanity. She felt naked under his gaze. His long pale fingers reached up and caressed her cheek causing her to recoil. She didn't want this, didn't ask for it.
~Help me please~
His body pressed against her own making a whimper escape past her lips.
"Little lamb we'll see each other again. Maybe not now, but soon."
She shook her head terrified to speak but managed voice to whisper. "I-I'll never be yours."
A grin formed on his face. "You'll see things my way Y/N. We belong together. I created you."
With that his lips crashed against hers as his hands roamed her body gripping her waist possessively.
"No-"
-*-*-
"Noona," a voice called.
Eyes opened slowly as they focused. Wincing, a hand covered a face shying away from the sun.
"Morning already," she mumbled turning over.
"Uh yeah. Get some clothes on," they muttered, the embarrassment in their voice.
Suddenly there was a realization that she was only covered by a small pile of leaves. Naked. A squeak passed her lips as she scrambled to cover herself up with the rest of the leaves. A scowl appeared on her face as she finally turned to look at the person talking.
"Why didn't you wake me sooner Jungkook?!"
Her brother clicked his tongue visibly annoyed. His dark hair hung over his forehead almost covering his eyes.
"You think I wanna see your ass naked out in the woods? It's embarrassing," he argued. Frowning he took the backpack from his shoulder and tossed it to her. "There's a creek nearby. Go wash up," he ordered, "You got blood and fur on you."
He turned around walking in the other direction kicking at a rock as she got up and ran to the creek a few yards away.
~What the hell did I eat?~
The dirt washed away under the cool running water and she did her best to remove the twigs and brambles from her hair. Letting out a cough, she noticed the small brown hairs. Squirrel? Raccoon? Beaver? She shook her head. Whatever it was, it was everywhere. Sighing, she got out of the creek and opened the bag to see a pair of sweat pants, a t-shirt, and slip-on shoes. After changing, Nova jogged back over to see him leaning against an oak tree. She took the bottle of water out he had placed in the bag and gulped it down.
"Thanks for the water. Whatever I had last night is leaving a bad aftertaste."
He nodded standing up and stuffing his hands in his pants pockets. "You remember anything from last night?"
She gave him a look and he put his hands up. "It was just a question," he ran a hand through his hair with a sigh. "I usually remember a few things each night. Like smells and stuff. I went further south this time."
"Interesting. We'll have to come back and mark a few more places. But usually, I don't remember much. Just images," she explained.
He patted her head and nodded. "Alright. Let's get home. I know you're hungry."
Nova grinned giving him a poke. "Famished."
-*-
Every month the same routine. The attack was as vivid as it was that fateful night a year ago.
They had been raised by their grandparents since they were young. All they knew was that their parents were killed in an accident when they were only children. Once high school ended, they both had planned to move out. But first, as a celebration, their grandfather treated Nova and her brother Jungkook on a camping trip for graduating high school. It was their first time on their own.
Funny how fate works.
The trip had gone smoothly for the first few days. They were excited to finally see the stars up close. It was harder to see them in the city. Jungkook even said there would be a full moon during the trip. On the fourth day, their lives were turned inside out.
"Kookie is the fire ready yet," Nova whined from the tent.
Jungkook glared as he tried unsuccessfully to light the campfire. "They make it look so easy on TV." She poked her head out of the tent and crawled out with a pack of matches.
"Did you grab the kindling?"
He paused looking at her sheepishly. "Uh kindling?"
Sighing, she brought out the kindling and arranged among the logs. "This helps the fire," she said slowly. He groaned and pushed her away embarrassed. "I'm only giving you a tough time cause I care Kookie," she giggled.
Soon the fire was roaring at full capacity. Jungkook grabbed the hotdogs and began to cook them over the flames. The smell made her lick her lips.
"I'm starving. Hurry up Kookie," Nova said pouting.
He shook his head poking at the hot dogs. "I can't force them to cook faster."
"Something smells good over here."
They looked up in surprise to see a guy standing by the tents with a backpack on his shoulder. Jungkook stood up giving him a once over with a suspicious look.
"Can we help you?"
He stepped closer though his facial features were still shadowed by the lack of light. Besides the fire, the moon and stars were the only light source.
"I was just passing through. I heard the chatter and the smell of food. You all camping?"
Jungkook stepped in between his sister and the stranger. "Yeah just celebrating our graduation from high school."
"Congrats. Going to college?"
Nova frowned at Jungkook's and moved from behind him causing him to groan. "It's in the works. We're just enjoying our summer for now. Sorry if my brother is being rude. He tends to be protective of me. I'm Nova and his name is Jungkook."
"Nice to meet you. I'm JP."
Jungkook gave him a curt nod. "Likewise, JP."
She nudged Jungkook giving him a look. He frowned but finally gave a reluctant nod. "Um, would you like to have dinner with us? There's plenty to go around."
The corners of JP's mouth curl upwards into a grin. "That's nice of you, but hot dogs aren't what I'm craving."
Jungkook's brows furrowed in confusion. "Um that's all we got. This and maybe some fruit and vegetables."
JP chuckled, but something about it made Nova take a few steps back. The look in her eyes was all Jungkook needed to know JP wasn't welcome anymore.
"Thanks for the stopping by JP, but I think you should move it along,"
JP cracked his neck staring at her hungrily. The shadows still cast across his face making it impossible for them to see him.
"But why? Things are about to get exciting."
Jungkook began to step back. "Nova…run."
Her eyes grew as JP's eyes began to glow. A guttural growl erupted as he hunched over. Everything seemed to slow down within those new few moments. All she remembered was running from the campsite as Jungkook tried to distract him. The beast threw Jungkook aside like a ragdoll and pursued her. She could barely let out the scream as fangs sunk into her side tearing at her flesh. She recalled two words being spoken before she passed out.
"You're mine."
-*-
"Noona, we're home."
Stretching her limbs she yawned as Jungkook put the car in park. It took her a moment to remember that they had moved. That's how they kept a low profile. The siblings didn't stay in one place for too long. Jungkook put his foot down though once the summer ended. He said they needed somewhere permanent for the school year. Nova's argument fell on deaf ears. She wanted to keep moving. After the attack, her anxiety had grown ten-fold. What if he returned?
Now and then, the same nightmare returned. She never told Jungkook about them. He would worry and blow it out of proportion. He had enough on his plate as is. They both did. This curse was enough.
Sighing, she grabbed her bag and headed inside the loft ready for an actual shower and rest. She emerged from her room to find a tray of cheese ramen by the couch. Jungkook was stretched across an armchair dozing off. Nova plopped down with a towel wrapped around her purple-tinted wet hair. "Thanks. You gonna shower?"
He nodded leaning back in his chair. "Soon? How you feelin' after the change?"
She shrugged grabbing chopsticks. "The same. Exhausted. Drained. Hungry. You?"
He scratched his chin thoughtfully. "I'm usually tired, but sort energized in away. It's weird. I am gonna miss the warm weather since it's the last summer moon."
"Go figures," she mumbled. Wanting to change the topic, she thought about classes in the fall. "What university are we enrolled in?"
He tossed her pamphlet from the coffee table. She slurped up the noodles reading it over. "Hmmm, Seoul Pacific University. Seems promising. I take it you did some research," she said flipping through the pages.
He shrugged with a grin. "They got a good football team…and basketball."
"You would consider the sports programs. Academics though."
"Yeah. That too."
"The less stress the better. I have a hard enough time keeping her in check."
Jungkook frowned staring at her. "You only get agitated the first few days before the full moon."
"So, do you."
Jungkook shrugged. "Not really. I've found ways to cope."
"Yeah now Mina won't stop calling," she teased snorting.
Jungkook gave her that annoying toothy grin and she rolled her eyes. "You're disgusting."
"Mina doesn't think so."
"Ugh!"
Nova threw the couch pillows at him and he laughed dodging it effortlessly as he pegged it back making her laugh just as hard.
~My dorky brother. Only he could make me laugh even when I'm annoyed with him~
*-*
Three weeks later…
First day of classes.
Nova pushed her sunglasses up the bridge of her nose following Jungkook across the quad being mindful of her long maxi skirt.
~Why did I decide to wear this??? Oh, cause I wanted to be cute~
The placed buzzed with excitement. She stayed close to Jungkook as people ran past. Old friends meeting up and chattering around the quad. Campus groups set up tables looking for recruits to sign up for the year. Her senses hummed as she looked around trying to take everything in. Jungkook looked around in awe.
"See anything you like?"
"If there's a photography club, I'm signing up," she said.
He nodded looking around. "I wanted to see about the tryouts." Their train of thought was broken as the bell above rang signaling the start of classes. They waved going to separate sides of the campus. Him to Psych 101 and her to Creative Writing.
[lecture hall]
Only a handful of students were sitting at the desks. She found a place near the back and placed her bag down next to her seat. Class wouldn't start for at least ten minutes so to pass the time, she opened her notebook and began to sketch absentmindedly. She hummed to herself as her pencil moved across the paper, tuning any and everything out.
"Mind if I seat here?"
"Hmmm? Uh-huh," she murmured barely looking up.
The guy chuckled and sat down. He leaned over quite curious about what she was doing. "Nice drawing."
Nova's brow quirked as she looked up with a snort as their eyes met.
~Whoa~
He smiled wide noticing the color rush to her cheeks. "Hi there."
She couldn't stop staring at him as he smiled at her. He let out a laugh placing his notebook on the table. "Are you always this talkative?"
Shaking her head, she blinked. "Oh...hello."
He brought the lollipop he was sucking back up to his lips and popped it back into his mouth. "You're a freshman."
It wasn't even a question. More like a statement. Nova gave him a look and nodded slowly. "Good observation."
He chuckled still staring intently. "What can I say. New things have a way of catching my interest."
Was he serious? She was ready to snort and deliver an insult when another voice spoke up. "Tae, you save me a seat?"
Her eyes met another male if not equally good looking to one sitting on her right. He nodded to the one named Tae before staring at Nova with inquisitiveness. A grin appeared on his pouty lips as well making his eyes turn to half-moons. "And here I thought you were just goofing off. Instead you were in here talking to a pretty girl, Hyung."
Tae laughed giving him a shove. "Jiminie, she's playing hard to get. She won't even tell me her name."
He looked over at Nova with a pout. "Shame. Maybe she'll tell me."
Her lips turned downward. "Doubt it." Trying to ignore them, she pulled hair behind her ear and went back to her sketch. Their eyes widened and they gave each other a silent look. A dark expression passed between them as they turned from her.
"She's not human."
"We gotta tell Alpha."
The other male sat on the other side of Nova watching her carefully. He sniffed the air once more, successfully imprinting her scent in his memory and nodded to Tae. "How about we formally introduce ourselves? Would that help in warming up to us?"
She looked with a smirk. Her eyes giving the slightest glow. "Maybe. We'll just have to see."
Taehyung grinned biting into the lollipop. "Very well. I'm Kim Taehyung."
Jimin gave a wink running his hand through his thick locks. "Park Jimin."
She sighed and gave a reluctant nod. "Jeon Nova."
"See that wasn't so hard huh," Jimin teased.
Before she could retort, the professor entered the lecture hall and class began. He passed out the syllabi and from then on, Nova had a tough time concentrating in class. For some reason, her mind wandered between Taehyung and Jimin. She seemed to have some sort of mental roadblock. Each time she'd make eye contact with either of them, they'd smile or wink. Her cheeks stayed red the entire class. When class ended, she ran out so fast, she left her drawing notebook on the desk. Jimin grabbed the notebook and flipped through the pages nonchalantly.
"Oh, dear. Nova left this behind."
Taehyung peeked over his shoulder with a smirk. "Aish, would be rude of us not to return it, no?"
Luckily, Nova and Jungkook could have lunch around the same time. They met up in the dining hall a few hours later. She saw him sitting near some windows overlooking the rose garden. Smiling, she walked over to the table dropping her bag down in an empty chair.
"How'd class go?"
Jungkook looked up at her taking his headphones out. "Not bad. You?"
She shrugged plopping down into her seat. "It was okay. I like writing, but there were these two guys and well they-"
"Hey Jeon!"
They both turned as two males approached them. Everyone in the dining hall seemed to stare. One had a smile on his face while the other looked nonchalant.
Jungkook's eyes passed from one to the other. "Um. Have we met?"
The one with pale skin sniffed lifting his hood. "I heard you were thinking about going out for the basketball team."
He frowned slightly glancing at his sister to them. When did he mention it out loud? Still, he gave them both a grin. "Uh yeah. I'm thinking about it. I played in high school. Coach came to watch us once."
He hummed with a nod. "Yeah he said you were alright. I'm the captain of the varsity team. Name's Min Yoongi." He jabbed his thumb towards the other male who was giving fleeting glances to Nova. "This here is Jung Hoseok."
"Call me Hopi," he chirped up with a grin. Jungkook nodded to both. "This is Jeon Nova. She's my sister."
Hopi and Yoongi both turned to you and wave. "Well we don't want to hold you both up from your lunch. Jeon, we'll talk more, yeah?"
Hopi smiled wide. "If you both are into dance, let me know. I have a group on campus."
Nova smiled shyly with a nod. "Will do. Nice meeting you both."
They walked away and headed out the dining hall giving each other a knowing look.
"You smelled that?"
"How could I not?"
"Both siblings?"
"Seems that way."
"Wasn't sure what Jimin and Tae were on about, but they were right."
"Mhmm more reason to let him know."
*-*
Nova and Jungkook walked over to the serving lines and grabbed trays. "That was pretty random. The varsity captain speaking with you, yeah?"
Jungkook shrugged grabbing a burger. "Yeah, I guess, but hey if he's heard of my skills, then that must mean I'm a big deal."
She rolled her eyes. "Hardly Kookie," she snorted grabbing a few pieces of chicken. They paid for their lunches, consisting mostly of meat, but Nova talked him into getting a salad for the sake of seeming normal. They went back to their seats and began to eat. Jungkook took a large bite from his and chewed staring off thoughtfully more a moment before looking back at his sister.
"You mentioned something earlier about your class?"
She wiped her mouth and shook her head. "It's silly. Just two guys being…well, guys. Nothing really to talk about."
Jungkook frowned slightly. "Well…alright." He didn't look convinced, but he let it go. "Got any more classes today?"
Nova grabbed her schedule out her bag and glimpsed over it. "Yeah just one though. Then I plan to stop by the library for a bit."
Jungkook sighed. "We need groceries too, but I have to work late tonight. Think you'll be okay getting everything by yourself?"
She scoffed biting into another piece of chicken. "I'll just stop by Jong-ssi store later. It isn't far from our place."
"Okay. Sounds good. I'll give you the money before I leave campus, he said." She gave him a goofy grin, cheeks puffy and full of food.
*-*
Once Nova's last class-Environmental Science ended around 3 that afternoon, she headed over to the library across campus to grab some books for an assignment she already had due for the next class. Kookie had given her the grocery money so she planned to go shopping once she left the library.
She took the brick stairs and pushed the doors open slowly quite taken back with the size of the building. Walking in, she went straight to the front desk.
"Hi, where can I find short stories?"
The librarian looked up from her computer with a smile. "Second floor."
"Thank you," she replied walking away.
Nova reached the floor and started to peruse the aisles carefully. Her eyes lit up as she noticed the title of one of the books. One caught her eye. As she reached out to get it, another hand did as well. Fingers brushing. Nova squeaked as she jumped back in surprise.
"We have to stop meeting this way."
"T-Tae?"
He laughed running his hand through his hair. "I didn't mean to frighten you Nova."
She picked up her fallen bag shaking her head. "It's fine. Just took me off guard is all. What brings you here?"
"Oh, you left this back in the lecture," he explained pulling out the notebook. Nova gasped taking it from and holding it close. "Oh, I didn't even know it was missing! Thank you! I don't even..I..just..thank you."
He grinned shoving his hands in his pockets. "I'm sure you'll find a way to make it up to me."
A dark blush covered Nova's cheeks as Tae chuckled more. She cleared her throat and took the book off the shelf. "I better get going. I'll see you in class. Thanks again."
Nova scurried off before he could say anything else. Tae watched her form as she ran off. He took out his phone and sent out a quick text message.
