A really frustrating thing that happens a lot is I'll see a book with the word "Vietnam" in the title and get excited, but then I look at the back and it's got nothing to do with the actual country of Vietnam and is just about American soldiers. The name "Vietnam" is already taken, find another shorthand to describe your war!
#saw a graphic novel at the store that was titled “Vietnam Horrors” and I was like oh sick#Vietnamese horror stories#but NOPE it was just about soldiers#Also it's telling that cultural fascination with the Vietnam War has never translated to cultural fascination with Vietnam#Vietnamese culture has like zero foothold in America#although to be fair not a lot of Vietnamese media really gets exported to the “West”#but I'll see people say stuff like “this is my Vietnam” and I'm like you wouldn't say that about any other country people

Anyway I've been here for six days now (basically a naturalised citizen) so here is what I have to say about China
Shit is CHEAP. Worryingly cheap. Don't think about it too much.
Their hourly minimum wage is the equiv of about $5AUD but that's reasonably proportionate to how much a meal is. Rent seems a bit more difficult though so I don't know how people manage that (cheap as dirt places go for 4000yuan a month or so)
People are REALLY nice, even security guards and cops and other people you'd assume would kind of give you a hard time. They'll have a laugh with you about stuff.
The country kind of feels like it's encased in a giant metaphorical glass dome - everything functions using their own special apps, special ways of doing things, etc etc. Breaking into it is difficult, but once you're "in", so to speak, it's very easy.
Public spaces including trains and buses are a bit of an "every man for himself" vibe. People will play their phone videos out loud and no one even gives a shit. Once a security guard on shift was just sitting there playing his 抖音 videos out loud with little concern for anything or anyone. It's not mayhem, but it's certainly no polite affair.
Your phone loses battery very quickly and unless you're just going for a walk it's impossible to leave home without it as any purchase is via WeChat, Alipay et al. Many times I had considered going for a phone free outing before realising it just couldn't be done.
China is beautiful and just about every place has something to offer. There are streets that are clearly just a result of a LOT of urban development being done very quickly but in terms of actual sites, it's hard to find a city that doesn't have something incredible in it.
Their coffee is top notch. Seriously approaching Melbourne level. I'm flabbergasted and slightly concerned because frankly Australia is bullied by China on the daily and our coffee is the only thing I knew for certain we had over them. Now I don't know what the fuck we're meant to do
Trains tend to be in English, even if it's not particularly big with foreigners, though I haven't gone to any suuuuper remote locations so I don't know about those. They're very well maintained; they're more or less indistinguishable from those in Japan, Korea etc.
Bikes and motorbikes don't have to follow traffic lights which will make you shit yourself the first couple times they ride right past you as you cross the road.
There is not as much propaganda around as I was expecting. My uni has a big statue of Mao but as it happens that's just cuz he has a history with this particular university. I haven't seen any pictures of Mao anywhere else that's not, like, a dedicated Spot for that sort of thing (think Tiananmen square etc). I saw one pic of Xi in a museum. Most propaganda is just asking people to become soldiers and cops and stuff. I was expecting it to be like Vietnam or something but it's basically non-existent.
No the social credit memes are not true unless everyone else can see mine and is just not telling me
Those world statistics weren't lying that country really can heavily populayed
People love taking photos of themselves but selfies are not too popular, so dedicated individuals will bring whole stands with lights and shit like that, as though they were dedicated cosplayers. Yesterday we saw a middle aged woman doing a sort of VR anime idol stream (I can't remember what they're called but the one where your face is overlayed with an anime avatar) in the middle of the bridge haha
^ and people will take these sorts of photos in front of ANYTHING. Even if it's... Slightly inappropriate by some standards. It's kind of funny.
People are generally quite chill and don't take themselves too seriously
I'll add more if I think of more

How I Critique Writing (A Loose Collection of Tips)
Someone asked me for insights into my methodology when it comes to giving feedback on writing and I realized I had way more than I could say in a reasonable amount of private messages. Are you someone who I've spoken to about their writing? Did someone send you their work and you don't know how to respond? Maybe this will help? Based on how people react I feel like it might be controversial but it seems to work.
When someone sends me their writing, no matter the size, subject or genre, I:
Take it seriously. It's a generational epic about the Vietnam war and its effects. It's a cute, young adult romance. It's Zim and Dib from Invader Zim realizing they've always been in love with each other. All of these things can be written with earnestness, strength, honesty and skill. It's fucking hard to write and if someone writes a single sentence that wouldn't otherwise exist its worth holding in your hands and examining with the same eye as if you were taking an interesting book off the shelf.
Respond with curiosity. It's common for critiques to follow a theme of ambiguous disdain. This doesn't work. Delete this. Bad. No. Gross. Guess what? That's not helpful. If you got that feedback, even if you followed it, you wouldn't be thrilled about it. Oftentimes you can take a line that makes you want to say Bad and ask something else. What is this supposed to express? What were you trying to do here? Am I supposed to feel happy/sad/uncertain when I read this? Curiosity can reframe something that you don't think works as a reader and turn it into an opportunity for the writer to look inward and solve their own problem. They might explain what they were trying to do, and if you were to say that it didn't pan out for you they're way more likely to tweak things themselves and feel like they still have control over their project.
Give comments. I've started giving more in-depth comments on the writing people give me depending on how anxious they are about it. If you're a pretty confident writer I'll give a summary of what I gained and what I was left wondering, what I thought and what I felt, what associations it made me think of in terms of tone and other forms of media - stuff like that. For newer writers, especially those who are far more doubting of their own abilities, I go buck wild. And in my opinion notes should be less like Good! I like this! Wow! Nice! (What are you, grading my book report? No thanks), and more like what you think when you're reading a book you're truly invested in. Make jokes about the characters (Not mean ones. I will send bugs to you in the mail.), chart exact lines that provoke physical reactions, even a small one. Can you imagine reading someone treat your work like it has its own fandom on Tumblr? You can do that for someone else.
Fucking have some fucking awareness of the fact that it might not be for you and that doesn't mean it's bad. I'm angry about this one considering the novel a friend sent me last night that they've been too terrified to try and post online, despite it being fucking brilliant. I'll try and calm down. Listen - you read what you like. I mainly read literary and experimental fiction, some poetry, horror and some sci-fi. Not a lot of genre fiction. But I will always be down to read someone's high fantasy story, because even though I don't really like fantasy I know what the good ones sound like. I've forced myself to gain a sense of what someone else would like, even if I don't like it. And I can still critique it. If I'm a builder and I see a house that's painted a shade of green I find sinful for a home (i.e. mint), I can look past that and focus on the state of the walls and the stability of the foundation. You aren't a reviewer, man. You are neither Siskel, nor Ebert. They write for readers, you write for writers. So you don't like historical fiction? Cool, man. Congrats. If someone trusts you enough to give you some to read and critique, you should still do so objectively. If you give it an automatic F because you wouldn't buy it, then you are legally a stinky little trash man. That's just the law.
Ask them what they liked to write and what was the hardest. There's apparently a weird trend on online writer communities that say there are specific rules that all writers need to follow. This is not true. It just isn't. If the dialogue in a story you read is weak, and the writer says they hate writing dialogue and really struggle with it, maybe tell them they don't have to use it. You might change their entire life.
RESPOND WITH CURIOSITY. You see the Ask games where people try and get more detail on the WIP of certain authors. If you have a WIP and I ask you a worldbuilding question that doesn't relate to the direct plot of the story as it exists now, I bet you'd like to talk about it. If I ask if you were inspired by a certain tone or movie, you might know the work I was talking about and feel happy. Or you might not know it, look it up, and feel inspired. I don't think people realize that a critique of new/unfinished writing is not a one-and-done exchange. You are taking part in an isolated process in a way few other people on the planet will. It's not homework. It's. Not. Homework. We spend so much of our time alone just fiddling our hands and making our magic, and in instances like these we share something in one of the ultimate forms of artistic trust. They're taking you into a world that hasn't fully formed yet. Is it cool? Can you tell me about it? Can they?
Be nice. Storytime, friends. In the way early 2010s, there was something on the internet called sporking. It was pretty much a line by line roast of someone's writing - typically fanfic. And I hate to say this, but I read a lot of it. I was 13, somehow untreated and overmedicated, and I was miserable constantly. Just cold in my chest. At one point I had the chance to critique a stranger's story - probably another child - and I essentially mocked the whole thing. They ended up deleting the story off the website. I cannot begin to describe to you the shame I feel about doing this, even ten years later. It burns in my heart and makes me sick to my stomach. If you are a serious writer, especially a young writer, and you insult another writer's craft to their face just as they're getting started - you will regret it. I promise you that. You will think about holding something alive and full of potential in your hands and squeezing your fists until it is just flecks of meat and crushed bone. It will haunt you. Maybe only a little, but constantly and for the rest of your life. So don't do it.
Wow what a grim note to leave on! That's essentially my philosophy on writing critique, do with it what you will. Want to send me some writing to receive this kind of excessive treatment? Cool! I have an email in my pinned post and I'll do that! I'm also down to chat if anyone wants to send me asks or DMs on writing/writing struggles/publishing tips.

I grew up with Men like this.....PART III
Well, I've noticed I picked up some followers. Thanks to all you 3 people. I love you!
That being said, I'm honored to have readers. It's always nice. I just hope you like my stuff. I tend to write stuff that's somewhat depressing, but I'll try to be a bit more lighthearted despite the circumstances. I do want to stress that this current situation is terrible shit, and this was meant more of a diagnosis than a warning, but it wound up being both.
This is also for you people who thought it was a good idea to vote Donald. To you, I say, You don't realize how fucked you are yet.
Anyway, I hope you read on, and prepare yourselves.
ECONOMY
Let it be known that Donald J. Trump, for all of his time spent in the private sector has ZERO KNOWLEDGE of the Economy or how it works. He has ZERO knowledge of how world markets work, nor does he care to know.
He is also a business failure. How he got the image of being "good at business" is beyond me. It probably has to do with the "Wealth Worshipping" we do in this country. (HAS TO STOP)
He is still very much that spoiled child who likes to torture others simply for the attention, and LOVES more than anything else, having power over people to be able to do so. It's not so much about being in charge for Donald, it's the attention that goes with it. He loves being adored, and wants to be recognized for his lack of business acumen as if he is "Mr. Wall Street". Donald, like other white rich dudes, likes the role of gatekeeper. That's why he says when you ask him something directly "I may do it. I may. We'll soon see." He doesn't know much but he does not how much being publicly indecisive hurts other people's lives, as to whether or not he'll enact a policy that directly threatens a group of people's way of life. He LOVES the fact that he's being talked about right now around the world, doesn't matter if it's good or bad, he's in it for the attention folks and to be gatekeeper to our freedoms well, that is one surefire way to get attention.
Back to his failure of business, I would go into all of his business failures, but I don't have enough room. I will mention them briefly. (Trump Steaks, Trump Airlines, Trump University, Trump Water, Trump Board Game, The Trump Taj Mahal and Casino, Trump Tower Casino, and Trump Marina and Casino of Atlantic City.)
SIDENOTE: HOW THE FUCK DO YOU LOSE MONEY OWNING THREE CASINOS???? Not many can except for the Donny Rapist Man!
He was once quoted in his first term as president (Yuck!) when asked how he will manage the National Debt, he said "“People said I want to go and buy debt and default on debt, and I mean, these people are crazy. This is the United States government. First of all, you never have to default because you print the money, I hate to tell you, OK?” That alone should share the shit out of you for he truly believes if you print more money, you'll manage the debt. A basic understanding of economics would prevent him thinking this way, but then again, Donny fucktard doesn't do thinking!
Anyway, He has promised to apply tariffs across the board on all foreign goods coming into the United States. He promised a universal Tariff on all foreign goods, and a 60% tariff on all Chinese goods. He's proposing this for he wants to get the other nations "in line" that he feels abuse the US market. So he thinks the tariffs will do that. Only, once again, a basic understanding of economics would show that the cost of Tariffs are always passed onto the consumer. That means, All Clothes, Items, Goods, Foods, imported here from other countries will be getting a lot more expensive for everyone. (REMEMBER AMERICA MAGAMORONS, you voted for this. I'll be closing on you in a minute.) If there are any doubters that are reading this, check your current shirt. Let me know where it was made. I'll put odds it was made either in China, Malaysia, India, Bangladesh, or even Vietnam. That's just clothes imported into this country. Let me ask you this? You think GAP INC, or HANES, or a majority of Clothing Companies are going to pay that 60% tariff just because Trump said so?
A LITTLE MATH/BUSINESS LESSON (You can skip this if you aren't interested)
On one pallet, (meaning one shipment of t-shirts) you can fit about 2,160 t-shirts total. In one container, you can fit about 20-22 pallets (which depend on the goods and how they're packed but let's just say this for arguments sake.) That means in one 40 foot container, you can have up to 45,360 T-Shirts. (My memory as a former wine importer is getting jogged as I write this. I stopped doing that business officially in 2016 so I'm sure prices have changed and I know prices are different on clothes.)
Before that pallet gets to America, the cost per shirt is about 50 cents. So the total cost of the entire container before the shirts get here would be $22,680. Once it arrives in customs, that's when customs charges begin. Two charges are levied on containers containing "Textiles" which is the category the T-shirts fall under. Those charges are MPF (Merchandise Processing Fee) and Import Duty The MPF is calculated as a percentage of the shipment's value, with a minimum and maximum amount. For informal entries (under $2,500), the MPF is a flat fee of $2–$9. For formal entries (over $2,500), the MPF ranges from $30.66–$595.35. So, since the cost of goods (Keep this in mind, these are cheap t-shirts found at WalMart) in that one container is $22,680, the total MPF would be the max, at $595.35. For Duty, which only applies when goods imported are valued above $800. (which this would be) that means a 5.63% tariff would apply, adding $1,276.88 to the cost.
Here is a lesson in Business, as these fees are added on to import your goods, those are costs that you tack onto the product when you sell it, because you have to lay it out to get it into the country, so you MUST make it back or your company will lose money. (Something else the Orange Fuckwad doesn't understand.) So, those incurred costs before it leaves customs would tack on a total of 3 cents to each T-Shirt, making the total cost of each shirt before it gets to your warehouse or store 53 cents. The cost of the truck that will pick up your container, depending on where your warehouse or store is located will vary, but let's go on a average, which would be anywhere from $500-$3000. It varies on distance. For this argument, let's go with $1800. That would add a total of 4 cents to each t-shirt. Now, each t-shirt landed cost is 57 cents. Stores charge anywhere from 30-40% to make a profit. They charge that because usually 100-400% mark up covers your rent (if you have any), bills (Electric, Gas, Water), Employees, Taxes (Payroll, Income, Federal, State, and City Taxes) So, the total cost that is known to the owner of the store is $2.28. They usually mark it up to maybe $5-$8.00 per shirt, and will do deals like buy 2, get one free or buy 4 and get one more. The profit on one shirt sold would be $4.43 per shirt. Remember, the landed cost is 57 cents.
The Trump tariff would charge an extra 60% to your container if it came from china. So, take 45,360 t-shirts in a container, which is valued at $22,680. Tacking on the usual costs
22,680 + $595.35 + 1,276.88 + 1,800 = 26,532.23 x (.60) = 15,919.34
(Total Cost before Customs) (MPF) (DUTY) (Shipping) + (Trump Tariff)
Take that number and add it to the total cost (26,532.23) = 42,451.46 total cost per container now.
Divide that cost by the amount of t-shirts in the container = 0.94 cents per shirt landed. A total added .37 cents onto each shirt.
This may seem like small potatoes but when you're selling t-shirts in bulk, you are not about to lose .37 cents per shirt. That would dip into your profits, and if you have backers or board members, that .37 cents will eat into your profit margins should it not be tacked onto the cost of the product. Backers and Board Members of a corporation don't do charity, and they will want to see that cost reflected into the sales.
Now, I know what many will say (if you got this far, bravo) BIG DEAL! It's small cents. In business, small change adds up A LOT! And this is just bargain Walmart T-shirts. Never mind graphic t-shirts, or designer t-shirts, or other clothes. And apply that to all GOODS.
This will be hurting Americans, not helping them. Donny Moron doesn't understand it, nor does he want too.
BACK TO TARIFFS
Economists have predicted that Trump's Tariffs will cost the average American family an extra $1700 per year for goods. To those MAGA morons who screamed and voted for "Lower Grocery Bills" will see those prices jump slightly higher now. Companies have already began to announce higher prices in retaliation to Trumps' Tariffs. Effectively erasing the work that President Biden has done to lower the effect of inflation. But Donny won't stop there. Oh No! What he's about to do tax wise is what got him donations from Billionaires like Elon Asshole Musk and Miriam Alderson (Widow of Casino Magnate Sheldon Alderson)
TAX CUTS (A BIT, NOT A LOT)
I went over this in some of my previous posts, and if you want to learn more about Tax Cuts and how they work, you can look back in my previous posts from 2015 and see what they are.
Trump is going to give Tax Cuts to the Wealthy and Corporations. He's going to say he's giving Tax Cuts to everyone. But the devil will be in the details. The IRS collects about $2.56 Trillion Dollars in Federal Income Tax alone per year. This money funds government services, and investments. Trump is proposing to lower the Corporate Tax from 21% to 15%, and proposes that those households who make over $400,000 will get a tax cut of about $60,000 roughly a 15% tax cut. So, if you make 1M per year, you'll receive a tax cut of $150,000. on $3M it's $450,000. On 1 Billion Dollars, it's 150M tax cut. A tax cut for those who don't know, are taxes you don't have to pay on your earned income. This is before deductions and Tax Loopholes that the super rich and Corporations have been doing for years. Just to recap, the following corporations paid ZERO in Federal Income Taxes.
Amazon
Google
Coca-Cola
Facebook
Nike
Tesla
3M
and many more. In fact, if they report losses, they take advantage of a Tax Deduction in which they don't have to pay on those, lessening their tax burden.
It will be the time of record profits for Billionaires and Big Corporations, and meanwhile the rest of us will see tax cuts like $500-$1000 that we wouldn't have to pay. The super poor will see none of these benefits, and New Yorkers know that $500 doesn't do much in a month or offer much breathing room. Meanwhile, fat cats like Elon Musk, who's net income is 1.4 Billion last year will see a 210M tax cut. The rest of us will have to pay our taxes however.
That's what this is mostly about. It's about Money, and the Rich, Like Don the fuckwad and his cronies, feel that they should have more control over their tax money and where it goes.
This will add onto the national debt, and the government will not be able to sustain itself for each tax cut given, that's less money going into the government. Less for Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and other government services.
So, enjoy your tax cuts middle class, the wealthy will be enjoying theirs. And they'll sell it through their usual promise of "Trickle Down" Economics, which is been proven to not work a BILLION TIMES OVER.
Also, don't tell me that bullshit either of Rich People need those tax cuts to create jobs. They dont. Never have. Trump presided over the WORST PERIOD OF JOB CREATION in this country since the Great Depression in the 1930's. THE WORST. So, don't tell me these tax cuts are going to automatically start working and start creating jobs. They haven't since they've been getting them under Trump's first term. And Where did all that money go? Stock Buybacks. Made themselves richer, while at the same time putting it out there that no one wants to work anymore.
UNIONS
The other thing Donny is going to do, of which I will NEVER FORGIVE THE TEAMSTERS UNION.
He's going to attempt to destroy Unions, and get rid of Overtime Pay.
Unions are the only check against large corporations and big businesses. Unions offer Medical Insurance to it's members, and also collective bargain with employers for wages.
The Orange Rapist has said during a live conversation with Elon Dumbfuck Musk on Twitter (I will not call it what he wants me to call it. Fuck him and his money) has praised Elon for firing Tesla workers who voted to Unionize. He has expressed that workers conspiring to unionize should be fired. He also said in that same convo, that he "hated paying workers overtime." and that "He'd never pay it."
What to expect from this conman during a second term...
Trump changed the rules about who qualifies for overtime pay, making more than 8 million workers ineligible and costing them over $1 billion per year in lost wages during his first term as president.
You Trumptards think that in the past 4 years of dodging court dates and indictments, he suddenly found a heart??? If you think that, you are gravely mistaken.
He will repeat his actions with regards to labor again, only this time, go to more extremes to make it stick.
He has talked about replacing overtime, and giving workers Comp Time, which cheats workers over Overtime laws embedded in our Constitution. 1 BILLION in overtime pay in 2019 to be exact.
Hey TEAMSTERS, no more overtime pay for you. He thinks you're not entitled to it. And apparently, so did many of your members. Enjoy that shit when it's enacted under a GOP controlled House and a GOP controlled Senate. Scabs will be taking your jobs if you refuse, and you know what? Shame on you, because your membership wanted to support Donald.
Trump will also do the following.
Trump will continue to PACK the courts with anti-labor judges who have made the entire public sector “right to work for less” in an attempt to financially weaken unions by increasing the number of freeloaders.
Trump will stack the National Labor Relations Board with anti-union appointees who side with employers in contract disputes and support companies who delay and stall union elections, misclassify workers to take away their freedom to join a union, and silence workers.
Trump will make it easier for employers to fire or penalize workers who speak up for better pay and working conditions or exercise the right to strike.
Trump promised to veto the PRO Act and the Public Service Freedom to Negotiate Act, historic legislation that will reverse decades of legislation meant to crush private sector unions and shift power away from CEOs to workers.
I can't wait when the Teamsters start complaining about "scabs" being allowed to work due to Trump's push of "Right To Work" policy, which effectively emboldens Scabs or picket line crossers to work for companies for less pay than the union would allow them too. Some of these idiots think that wont happen. To that I say....Just wait.
The next time I hear of Teamsters Picketing, they can go fuck themselves as far as I'm concerned for failing to come out to support Kamala Harris, a president that would've protected their Union and advanced Pro-Union Policies. I hope the Teamster Union breaks, and I say that as a UFT member knowing full well that Trump and his merry band of assholes will try to dismantle my Union too. (They already are trying too with Charter Schools. If Governor Hochul had any balls, she'd pull funding from Charter Schools to embolden UFT and pro-union policies. But this is about the Spoiled Boy-King, not NY governor Hochul.)
ABORTION/ IMMIGRATION
On this, Trump will demonstrate his extreme cruelty for he gives neither a fuck for Immigrants (Even though his family was once an immigrant from Germany) nor women (see the 32 Civil Court Cases when 32 different women across this country accuse Donny of Rape and Sexual Assault.) He won this election on getting others to hate Immigrants.
It's a big pet peeve of mine whenever a fellow American Italian hates on the "Hispanics and Mexicans coming over the border." To which I remind them how their family came here, and the adversity that they faced. This convo usually ends with "Well, my family pulled through" but what they don't seem to understand is We're supposed to make things better, not worse for the next guy. It's also what some of my fellow pisans consider retribution. "Well, I came here legally. They can too." Well, they can't. Imagine how desperate they must be to come over illegally. It's not to skirt laws or get away with something.
The thing about Immigrants that many don't understand is the following.
Illegal Immigrants make up for a good portion of our workforce. About 8.3M Illegal Immigrants are currently in the United States Workforce. They are hired by their bosses, who know full well they aren't here legally, and take advantage of that by paying them much lower than they would have to pay an American worker.
Check out the Kitchens of the Restaurants that you frequent. Who is making your food back there?
Also, who is building your houses? Take a good look at the majority of those building private housing. Let me know what you find.
Another thing about Ilegal Immigrants is that they don't mostly Bring Crime, Drugs, and are Rapists. (I always found it funny that a Rapist calling a group of other people Rapists especially when he's a known rapist and pedophile. When Jeffrey Epstein is your best friend...) Ilegal Immigrants make our economy go round!
The Food Industry, the Construction Industry are very very dependent on Illegal Immigrant labor.
Illegal Immigrants are less likely to commit a crime for fear of being deported. So they're mostly law abiding citizens.
Illegal Immigrants pay MORE taxes that Amazon, and Coca-Cola combined. (Yes, they file and pay while freeloaders like Elon and Donny pay nothing.)
Illegal Immigrants make up about 12% of sales for Telecommunication companies (i.e. Cellphone purchases.)
They rent apartments, spend for food, open bank accounts, and California was trying to pass a law that would've made it easier for them to obtain a mortgage regardless of Immigration status.
When he does send ICE and Immigration agents to do a mass deportation, he will be adversely affecting these industries. That is on the way, and I've read one economist suggest that the "mass deportation" that he has promised his fans and fellow racists will total 315 Billion Dollars. Will Donny want to pay that? Sure, why not? The money isn't his, and he'll be dead soon enough so why should he have to worry? Thats a problem for us to figure out later when he's gone.
That's another thing Richers do that Donald likes to do. He loves to spend money when it's not his to spend. Donald is a notorious cheap skate, and has stiffed many people who have done work for him in his hotels and casinos. However, that will go away now that Donald has the United States Purse strings. The next time I hear a Republican preach about Fiscal Conservatism, it will be very hard for me not to deck them in the mouth.
Again, Donny loves being Gatekeeper. He adores it. It doesn't matter if it's cruel, or if he is doing the wrong thing. He is directly responsible for separating 6000 kids from their parents at the border. 6000. And he put them in cages and didn't even bother giving them blankets. He gave them what amounted to aluminum foil for a bedsheet. ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME???? WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE???? Every single parent should've been outraged with that regardless of political spectrum.
Also any real Christian should've had an issue with that, and those who don't are not real Christians nor do they deserve to be called one. They deserve to be called what they truly are, CRUEL HYPOCRITES WHO WORSHIP SATAN'S COCK.
I had a convo I had with a Trump sympathizer about this once, and the other person had the balls to say "Well, they shouldn't have been there." Talk about the most Victim Blaming Bullshit I've ever heard. As if they brought about that cruel treatment upon themselves when they got caught on the border.
WARS IN GAZA AND UKRAINE
Trump gives a fuck about one thing and one thing only. He's cited it many times in his first presidency, and it's his biggest motivator.
His image.
Trump is such a textbook classic narcissist that his main drive is simply to protect and project his image. He wants to be that "Suave, Smart, Debonair, Wealthy, Strongman who is beloved by all, and everyone fawns over him and his every word while his enemies retreat in cowardice." Trump's self image, like much of anything he says, is not rooted in reality.
He's a wimp, and like all bullies, once someone stands up to them, they run and hide and tell the teacher on you. Trump would run and hide from anyone formidable and run and tell fox news how "unfairly mistreated" he was.
Keep in mind, Donald is still a Russian Asset. The reason he jocks guys like Putin is because he wants it like that. He wants to make American into the Dictator Image. Absolute Power. Absolute Fascism. We know Donald can't read, but he has probably watched a Hitler Speech or two, and realized how Hitler came to power. His path to power is very similar to Hitlers, in fact almost mirror image.
He couldn't care less about what happens in Israel. He couldn't care less about what happens in the Ukraine. He will do what he is told, which the super wealthy are tired of giving aid and money to these two countries.
Also, Putin will tell his bitch to bend over and let him have Ukraine. Trump will do so. He will claim "He made a great deal" but the deal made will be something along the lines of the following.
1.) No Admission to NATO for Ukraine.
2.) Russia will get to keep most, if not all of their occupied territory.
3.) Ukraine will have to enter a trade agreement with Russia over the oil pipeline and they'll maybe do some share. 10 years Russia will have it and then turn it over to Ukrainian control.
Ukraine will do all of this under Trump duress, or Trump will withhold any and all aid to Ukraine, of which that will stop immediately once Trump takes office. So the good news is, The war will end. The bad news is, the war will benefit Russia grately, and Russia will have an open way to take Europe if it feels like it.
Trump will say "Look how great I did. And Look, I ended the war." But in the real world, Trump will only have given Putin what he asked for, which is the part of Ukraine with the resources as a part of Russia. Also, there will be no NATO presence in Ukraine forever, or at least while Trump is president.
As for GAZA...
Many Gen Z people were upset, and rightfully so, over the mass genocide in GAZA by the Israeli government. If they were upset of Former President Biden's lack of action, then they're really going to hate how Trump handles this situation.
I'm sorry to say, but the Palestinian people's numbers will be greatly REDUCED once Trump is in power, and he will not only continue to do nothing diplomatically. He will also side openly with Netanyahu, and praise his actions. He'll even get a bigger contrat, and sell more bombs, guns, and ammunition there. He'll say "What a great deal for America" but what he means is "What a great deal for Smith& Wesson" "Raytheon", and L3Harris Technologies." because last I checked, the American people in general don't own stock in any of those companies, only a select few do. (Trump is one of them by the way. He owns some stock in Raytheon. Conflict of Interest much? Sure, but we wont be able to talk about that for much longer.)
CONCLUSION
So, this is where this series ends. There will not be a 4th installment. I've pretty much said all I needed/wanted to say. I know many are upset over this tyrant returning to the White House.
There has got to be some hope at the end of this fucked man and his deranged policies. It's almost comical how he's in a "Race for the Worst". To predict what can happen, just picture a worst case scenario for each situation, and that is the baseline that Trump is so thirsty to beat. He will also fuck the environment as well, and turn the planet back on Global Warming, why? In the name of money.
So, fellow trumpers, I hope you enjoy the world while it lasts. I hope there isn't another deadly pandemic waiting in the wings, because Donald will handle that one just as well as he handled the 1st one. The one where he got over 1.8M American's killed, and suggested as a cure to inject bleach into your veins. He was also the guy to Poo Poo Masks, and put doubt into the vaccine, despite himself getting it.
But whatever, RFK will be in charge of our health from now on. You know, because he's qualified and believes in Science. But that's talking way too much.
Brace yourselves everyone. Enjoy this last holiday season of peace. We are in for a reckoning.
(So much for a weekly post. I just blogged 3 times in 4 days. But man, does it feel good to write again.)

4, 6, and 12
ooooh thank you! Let's go! :D (from this list)
4 - favorite book, already answered, so I'll go with 4+10=14 instead:
14: What are your favorite apps besides tumblr?
I have a one-pixel-a-day diary app that I really like. It's simply called Pixels, and it prompts me to rate my day on a scale of 1 to 4 every day. Those values are "shitty, meh, good, very good". I deliberately didn't put a neutral middle value in there, because I haven't yet come across a neutral day. The values equal a specific color, and the app gives me an overview of how I replied each day, so I can see, at a glance, how I've been feeling recently, or at the same time last year, etc. etc. It's a neat, simple way of keeping track; of course it doesn't transport any details, like such as why the day was shitty or very good, but that's not what it's for, anyway. It's all about the overview, and checking that oh fuck, I've had two weeks of meh in a row with two insular really bad days; maybe it's time to do something nice for myself.
6: name 5 male celebrity crushes:
Sorry but I can't. I don't really have celebrity crushes in the first place; I've been wondering whether I'm some flavor of ace, because all y'all's thirst traps never do anything for me. Much less *male* celebrity crushes; ya girl is a lesbian through and through. So, again, I'll add 10 to that 6 and go with
16: What do you think makes you attractive?
instead. Phew, now there's a question for you! I think it's my enthusiasm, mostly, and my positivity. (And also that my enthusiasm translates easily into pretty charming behavior, if I say so myself. I find it easy to find something to genuinely compliment people with, to connect to them with, and that has always opened me a lot of hearts. Good thing I'm not a player, otherwise I'd be leaving broken hearts left right and center!) (and yes, I can say stuff like that about myself and actually believe it, because it's genuine and not a persona. What you see is what you get, with me. I'm a charmer *and* a good person.)
And 12: Where is somewhere you'd like to visit?
I wanna go back to Japan. And to Vietnam. And I'd love to visit Thailand. Unfortunately, with my sensory issues and my lowered threshold for meltdowns, I don't think I'll be able to again. Also, I wanna see the aurora, and that seems much more realistic, because a flight to northern Norway or Sweden is nowhere near as long as to Asia. 😅
Thank you for asking, and I hope you don't mind my substitutions!

hihi ! i just read your intruders fic and it was so good, do you have any tips on how to write Daryl properly?
Hiii!!! For one, thank you 😭🫶🫶 You're so sweet (this is a little lengthy, the nerd got out)
As for writing Daryl; one of my favoritest things is media analysis, especially in regards to the structuring and development of characters: so when watching shows/movies/etc., I try to pay a lot of attention to major and minor details in the plot and a character's mannerism, actions, dialogue, etc. since I not only find it fun, but I think it really helps in giving and understanding the depth of characters writing (yes there's a lot of reading into things too much & overanalyzing, but in this house we assume everything happened for a reason and was meticulously planned ‼️) (except for when we ignore canon because sometimes writers don't know what they're doing) (*cough*, Leah)
It's pretty straightforward; it helps in learning how a character behaves, reacts and would handle certain situations (since you're essentially studying how they do it). I generally get to a point where I know a character well enough that I can see something and just be like "oh yeah they would/wouldn't like that" or "*this* is how they'd do that" (still I am guilty of indecisiveness in headcanons 😔🤞)
But beside all that, turning to other people's interpretations is also really helpful! Norman Reedus himself is obviously a good resource; listening to and reading the extra things he's said about Daryl in interviews and stuff (and what other cast/crew say too) Then of course other fan content (fanfics and headcanons are a key ones. I also end up on old reddit comment threads pretty often with people discussing episodes) I'm on his Fandom page all the time (occasionally the Survival Instinct/Onslaught specific one too, but take that one with a bigger grain of salt cause there's always gonna be inconsistencies)
I also used to be a really big role player so pretending to embody Daryl or put yourself in his shoes might also be useful(?) (I think I do this subconsciously 🗿), and I find Daryl to be very relatable so that inherently aids
I think Daryl in particular can be a more challenging character to feel like you've written "properly" (in a way that feels in character) because of how complex certain parts of his personality are (like most characters or people with years worth of trauma), and the way he handles things is very dependent on his relationship to the those involved, what it is, what period of his life it's in (like how he's much harsher and hot-headed in the early seasons, but shuts down a lot in mid seasons, but towards the last ones we get to see more of who he actually is; so his behavior is gonna vary a lot depending on context)
But don't let feeling ooc hang you up! The more you write for Daryl (or any other character), the more you'll understand him, and subsequently the better you get. No matter how long I've loved a character or how well I feel I understand them, I'll still always be having sort of realizations or developments in my thoughts
OH THIS IS A BIG THING; imagine him as a real person, blissfully ignore the word "fictional" – this helps me connect to him way more and on a deeper level because I'm viewing him as someone that genuinely exists and has experienced these things (am I little out of touch with reality?... maybe)
His thoughts, emotions, inner monologue, how all these things had an impact on his development in childhood and adulthood, etc. Eliminating the idea of him being fictional might help you see him as a fully rounded person rather than bits of writing and acting we watch and read.
Think about how real world events & circumstances would've affected him (I view him as being born in 1975, so raised post-Vietnam war, lower income in a conservative area, redneck and white trash, War on drugs, 9/11, etc.) (Some of these aren't that important in writing him, but they might help in formulating ideas about who he is/ again, understanding him) – that idea in general is important though; theorize about how certain events/ scenarios (big world things or more mundane ones) would affect him/ how he'd react to them — all this wraps into the first things I said; about analyzing his character.
Okay maybe I'm rambling now, but overall just go for it and have fun with it! As I said, the more you do it, the faster it'll come to you, and the more solid idea of Daryl you'll formulate. Everyone has different interpretations of things and I love to see how others view characters compared to my own!

What's the first animal you go to see at the zoo? Well I've never really...looked forward when it comes to zoos. As a kid I found it cool to see eagles I guess but that's it?
Which animal[s] don't you ever go to see at the zoos? I've never avoided any animal in particular.
What's the strangest or rarest creature you've seen at a zoo? Nothing comes to mind. I've rarely visited zoos all my life.
What animal is at a zoo that really, in your opinion, shouldn't be? All of them, I guess. Zoos just rub me off the wrong way.
Have you ever been to a zoo with an aquarium/water creature section? I've been to places that are aquariums/ocean parks on their own already.
Do you like zoos or aren't you bothered? I am very bothered by zoos, yeah.
Y e s O r N o
I offer you a cigarette, you say... Sure.
I offer to buy you an alcoholic drink and you reply... That's very nice of you, thanks!
I have some Weed, do you want any? Nope.
Got some harder stuff too. Interested? Nope.
I offer you $5,0000 to kill a world leader. What's your response? 5000 or 50,000?
You sleep with me and I'll get you a record/modeling deal. Yes or No? That's creepy and neither of those sounds appealing.
W h e n . . .
Did you last cry? Last night. Just came across several posts that hit too close to home and unlocked feelings that I buried long ago.
Do you normally laugh the most? When I'm with my sister or with Angela/Hans; or when I watch BTS videos that are funny.
Do you forget things more? I have my forgetful moments at work.
Do you usually get up during the weekend? Anywhere between 7 to 9:30 AM. More or less the same time I wake up on weekdays since my body is used to the habit already.
Do you usually go to bed during the week? On weekdays, the latest I allow myself to stay up would be 2:30 AM. Any later than that I'd be fucked in the morning.
Did you last forget something important? Can't remember tbh. I forget a lot of little things, but rarely if it comes to big big big significant stuff.
Do you feel the most secure? Just whenever I'm on my own. I like and find comfort in my own company.
Do you ask for advice? When even my own pep talks or solutions don't work anymore.
W h y . . .
Do you think you see the world the way you do? What a deep question, sorry I'm gonna give such a basic answer lmao. Just my experiences and the stories I hear from the people around me, I guess. My perception of the world is shaped from the way I've encountered it.
Do you think you were put on this earth? I don't think there's a real purpose to it. I think of it as I'm just a cell that managed to be formed, and it's up to me to make the most out of the life I've been given and do it happy.
Do you favour your favourite colour? It reminds me of BTS.
Do you like the clothes you are wearing? It's CM Punk's WWE return shirt, and it personally means a lot to be able to own it because I've stuck around long enough to have been with him throughout his entire journey, and him coming back to the place we all thought he'd never come back to continues to be such an unbelievable feeling haha.
Do you lose your temper at people? I cannot handle stupidity, laziness, or slow people, and that's when I tend to be the most impatient.
Can or can't people empathise with others? Differences in the way we've lived life.
W h e r e . . .
Do your grandparents live? My father's parents live somewhere south; my grandma on my mom's side lives nearby.
Do you want to visit this year? Just anywhere abroad, really; and I should be able to tick that off my list soon as we're headed for Vietnam in a couple of weeks. We'll be visiting Ho Chi Minh and Da Nang.
Do you feel the most complete? Museums.
Did you go yesterday? I went to North Caloocan for the first time for work, and what a shitshow of a city. I'm so glad I live where I live.
Can you go when you're in trouble? Not sure what this is asking...? I'm 26. I never really...get in trouble anymore lol.
Does your best friend live? Just nearby.
W h o . . .
Could you tell anything to? Angela.
Has hurt you the most in life so far? My mom and my ex.
Has made you laugh in the last 24 hours? My sister.
Has made you question something in the last week? Ange, for being a terrible coworker and for making me ask myself why I ever agreed to work with her given the warnings everyone gave. Idk, I just wanted to give her another chance and I was genuinely rooting for her...
Idk. I typically have infinite patience at work because I know everyone's doing their best and the last thing I resort to is to be pissed at any one of my own teammates. But she's clearly not doing her best and is checked out as all hell and it's making the rest of the team who are doing their best look bad, so I've given myself the go signal to be a little harsh on her.
Do you think, outside family, has made the biggest impact on your life? My ex.
Never fails to cheer you up? Angela.
Gets on your nerves the most? Ange, clearly. And my brother.
W h a t . . .
Age do you wish you were? I don't really think about this. I'm fine at the present, where I am and how old I am currently.
Colour is the nearest book to you? There are no books near me. I'm somewhere up north now for a bit of a staycation, and I meant to bring The Midnight Library with me but ultimately forgot about it since I was rushing this morning :(((
Memory sticks out the most? There isn't one in particular. Different memories pop up for me depending on my mood or what my brain feels like remembering.
Subject did you dislike in school? Chemistry, calculus, trigonometry, and philosophy.
Dish/meal would you like to eat right now? Tuna sashimi would be great.
Sense of yours is the strongest? Touch.
Book has impacted you on an emotional/psychological level? None.
Word do you always misspell? Rhythm.
Decade were you born in? 90s.
V i o l e n c e
Is it ever okay to hit a child? When is this? Never. I dislike kids lol, but realistically I hate the idea of physically harming them. That's how every Filipino kid until the 2010s grew up and I will be the first to tell you it doesn't fucking work. I've seen my cousins get lashed with belts, whipped with sandals, or harshly slapped and 100% of that bullshit was ineffective.
Do you think violence is a huge problem in the world? Sure.
Are you afraid of going out at night incase you get attacked? Yeah. I'm a woman in the cat calling capital of the world. You'll never see me walking at night.
Do you live in an area with a reputation of being violent? Fortunately, no.
Do you think violence is appropriate when someone gives you verbal abuse? Not always; things like this are never black and white. But, say, someone's endured abuse for a time and finally decides to snap back – situations like that, I would understand and empathize with.
Someone hits you, what do you do? Ideally I would hit back but it really depends on the situation. I could always freeze – which has happened before.
Have you ever been "beaten up"? Did you report it? Nope.
Do you think violence in rap music influences the nation to violent acts? No, the same way violence in video games does not necessarily mean those acts are carried over to real life. I was 5 when I first learned how to go up parking lots on GTA and go on rocket launcher killing sprees to everyone walking below; I turned out fine lol.
If so, list a few songs you feel show an example of this:
Do you think violence in video/computer games influences the nation also? No.
If so, list a few games that you feel show an example of this:
Do you think that violence in films influences the nation? Example[s]? No for me, because I feel like in shows or movies they add inaccuracies on purpose anyway so that no one can imitate stupid shit. Like how they purposely fucked up the scene order of making meth on Breaking Bad so that anyone who tries to copy it in real life will turn out wrong.
U n d e r n e a t h I t A l l
Do you truly think you are better than someone else? No. If anything I feel like everyone can do at least one thing better than I can. But I've learned to be alright with that; it's made me learn how to live a calmer life while not losing my competitiveness.
Is there something you fear above anything else? What is it? Losing my loved ones to death. Because where do they go? Were they in pain? Are they watching over from another dimension that I just can't perceive, like I like to believe? things like that I hate thinking about but can't stop thinking about either.
Are you in any shape or form, racist? I am wary of the mainland Chinese, but that also comes in the context of those people being bullies to Filipinos, those people infiltrating my country, and from personally experiencing their rudeness.
Are you in any shape or form, sexist? Nope.
Are you discriminative in any other way? Elaborate. I try not to be, but I'll sometimes encounter one too many booboos or annoying tendencies of a particular group that I can't help but lose my trust and neutral impression of them – Christians.
Can you honestly say you've got a good heart and mean well? For the most part. I'm not a saint, and that will sometimes show intentionally or otherwise. Other times, others are the first to be mean and I typically like to respond to that with the same meanness. So, not a saint LOL.
Are you more selfish or selfless? Idk, a little bit of both.
Do you believe you make life what it is? Yes. Sometimes I make it beyond what I think it's giving me at the moment, because life is short and you gotta learn how to be extra and do everything you wanna do and not be shy. But for the most part I've been more accepting of life and do what I can with what is around me.
Is there someone you truly hate? Why do you hate them? Not anyone in real life but I'm pretty sure I'm capable of physically harming animal abusers. I almost got started with a dude 9 years ago but my parents restrained me because they thought I was making a scene.
Do you feel comfortable around the opposite sex? How about the same sex? Guys are fine as long as they are not creepy. I'm comfortable around women.
Do you consider yourself wise/intelligent/knowledgeable? Booksmart, I guess. I'm not very confident in other areas lol.
Do you respect other peoples choices/right to freedom of speech? Sure...it just becomes annoying when this becomes the excuse to be a gigantic asshole. Aka Filipino Christians and their agenda to always be the Main Character in every narrative because it's Their Beliefs That Always Have To Be Followed.
Are you afraid of getting older? No.
Do you know what drives you in this world? Money.
Can you honestly say you'd risk your life for someone else? I would.
Are you a children/animal/people person, or not at all? Animal. I don't care much for the other two, hah.
Do you have any hormone problems? How do these affect you? No.
Do you take things people say on a personal level? Sometimes! I can be sensitive but this is a Me thing. I need to learn and I've also been told to learn how to not always take things personally.
T r a v e l
Have you ever been to England, if don't live there? No.
Any other part of the UK? No.
Have you been to more than 5 US States if live in the US? No.
Have you visited any country in Africa? Name the ones you've been to? No.
Have you visited any country in Australasia? Name the ones you've been to? No.
Have you visited any country in Europe? Name the ones you've been to? No.
Have you visited any country in Asia? Name the places you've been to? I live in the Philippines; but I've also been to Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Thailand, Korea, Japan, and China. Vietnam in the next two weeks as well.
Have you visited North/South America? Name the places you've been? No.
Do you like travelling? Where is the best place you've been? Yes. I really enjoyed Bangkok – it felt like being back home, but with MUCH more shopping and a wider variety of street food so it was like, a lot of fun without the whole culture shock adjustment haha. Japan was nice too because the weather felt great and everyone was very very kind.
The worst place visited? Calling it the worst is a BIG stretch since it was nowhere near that state, but maybe Shanghai is the closest fit? I liked the urban-ness it offered, but tbh I don't feel like it was meant to be a tourist city. It's great for shopping and if you specifically set out to buy high-end stuff, but if you're not there for that, I'm not quite sure what you can do there. Then again we also weren't there for a long time so it's also on us for not having the chance to explore the place further.
Do you prefer to backpack, stay in a hotel, a cabin or summerhouse? A homey condo Airbnb in the middle of the city is the way to go! I find hotels too fancy, but I also don't want to be in a cabin in the middle of nowhere in an unfamiliar place. If I was traveling in a different country, I want my essentials to be just a short walk away.
Who do you normally take with you travelling? Phone, laptop (just in case I need to bring it out for work lol), power banks, chargers, wallet, Airpods, basic makeup, toiletries, and if I'm going overseas then obviously my passport.
T e c h n o l o g y
Do you own a laptop computer? Yes.
PC? No.
XBox? Never had one as we've always preferred Playstation.
Nintendo DS? My sister had one. I borrowed it sometimes but I was never hooked since I much preferred to play with the Wii.
Wii? Yes, spent hours on that thing.
Playstation 2? We did have one, yeah.
Mobile/Cell? Yes. Kind of need to treat it as an essential these days.
House Phone? We still have one since we have a few relatives who still prefer to talk using the house phone + some businesses will still use your landline as a means of communication.
What's your favourite form of technology? I mean, the lengths the smartphone has come has been pretty mind-blowing to watch. What do you mean this tiny thing can hold tens of thousands of photos, can be used for vlogging, can accommodate Powerpoints, and can carry all the app versions of programs that for a very long time you could only use via computer? I would be nowhere without my phone; I definitely use mine for everything.
Do you have Bluetooth on any of your devices? Yeah, they all do.
Wireless connections on your PC and/or laptop? Sure.
Coloured or black and white ink in printer? Are you asking what I prefer or if our printer has these features lol? In any case, our printer has both and I prefer colored.
Do you spend a lot of money on technology? I do when I do buy new gadgets, but it's not often at all.
Do you understand basic technological language? It depends on what you mean by basic technological language lol...
T e l e v i s i o n
What's your favourite show? Quality-wise, Breaking Bad. Rewatch-wise, Friends.
What's your favourite type of show [soap, talk show]? Sitcoms, since I appreciate an easy watch. For K-dramas, I like romcoms or those that take a crack at social commentary.
What about your list of favourite shows? At least for my top 5, it would be Breaking Bad, Friends, Descendants of the Sun, The Crown, and BoJack Horseman.
Least favourite type of show? Crime, mystery, fantasy, scifi.
Why don't you like the above type of show? In the grand scheme of things they're the least likely to be realistic.
Did/do you watch Friends? What's your opinion? I did! And I continue to rewatch it consistently. It's no secret that it's one of my favorites – I've enjoyed most episodes, the cast's dynamic was consistently great, and even after 10-20 rewatches for some episodes the same jokes still make me laugh.
Did/do you watch Smallville? Verdict? I did not watch it.
Did/do you watch Family Guy? Verdict? I watched it sometimes when it was on, but it was never a favorite. I think the biggest factor is that I was too young for the jokes, but even if I watch an episode today I still don't think it'd make me laugh or that the humor would be something up my alley.
What's your favourite talent show? None of them since they're all highly scripted anyway. I do want to get into Street Woman Fighter, though.
What's your favourite sitcom? Friends.
What do you refuse to even bother watching? Game of Thrones, Bridgerton, 13 Reasons Why, HIMYM, Doctor Who.
What TV package do you have? We have a smart TV now, hahaha.
How many channels do you have? Aww.
Do you subscribe to any packages? Which types? Welcome to 2024, survey-maker! Most TVs are smart now lol. That said I'll *kind of* answer this with some of my most frequently used apps instead – YouTube, Spotify, Netflix, Disney+, and Prime.
Do you prefer TV, films or radio? More on vlogs, tbh.
T h e E n d
How do you think the world will end? However the scientists have calculated it to be. Idk there's a lot of legs to it lol so it's hard to summarize everything in one sentence, but I've watched a few visual timelines about this question and I'm pretty much on the same boat.
How far away do you think that will be? Billions of years from now.
Do you see tragedy in the near future? Possibly.
T h o u g h t P r o v o k i n g
Do you believe in aliens? Yes.
Can you imagine a world without music? Being technical I see how that can be possible, but what a miserable prospect that is. Music is its own language, music has been used to express feelings and culture, music has quite literally saved lives. It'd feel like a very big hole if we suddenly lost all music.
What colour would you paint the stars if you could? I'm fine with how they look like from here.
If you were a superhero, what would you call yourself? I dunno. Just my name, I guess. I don't want to draw attention lol
What natural phenomenon do you find the most beautiful? Auroras and eclipses.
What age do you think you are old enough to vote? I'm fine with 18 being the legal age here.
Does the characteristics of your starsign reflect you? Some of it does and some of it does not. Same as with any other sign.
Do you cry usually because you feel hurt, confused, happy or angry? It can be any one of these things. I'm a big crier hahaha.
Would you kill someone who killed a child? No.
How about YOUR child? I think so.
Does learning someone is a different religion to you change your opinion? Like, of them? I have a very complicated relationship with religion. Most beliefs I 100% have no problem with and I embrace the chance to learn from them and hear their culture; but given my consistently negative firsthand experience with Christians, I am wary every time I meet someone who is very serious about that faith.
What is the most beautiful word in the English language? I personally like the word 'poignant.'
What emotion do you feel the strongest right now? Nervous-but-trying-to-run-away-from-it would be most accurate.
The last film you watched - how did it leave you feeling? Excited. (The last movie I saw was The Menu, haha)
Love of a Partner or a true friendship? Friendship.

Also progressive country music is not dead, there's tons of examples but one of my favorite is the Chicks, sure they release a lot of fluffy stuff, but they have walked the walk on speaking out on social issues, and because they were blacklisted a lot of people don't know about them despite them being one of the top selling all female groups of all time. Here's a non exhaustive list of the times the Chicks were not gonna take any conservative bullshit:
Wrote a song about young kids who were tricked into Vietnam and died for it. (Travelin' Soldier)
"One Friday night at a football game The Lord's Prayer said and the anthem sang A man said folks would you bow your head For the list of local Vietnam dead Crying all alone under the stands Was the piccolo player in the marching band And one name read and nobody really cared But a pretty little girl with a bow in her hair"
Publicly said they were ashamed of the US invasion of Iraq and tore Bush a new one while doing it. They then got blacklisted and tons of death threats and then came out with a song saying they are still angry and would absolutely do it again (Not Ready to Make Nice):
"I made my bed, and I sleep like a baby With no regrets, and I don't mind saying It's a sad, sad story When a mother will teach her daughter That she ought to hate a perfect stranger"
Their most famous song is about having to kill an abusive husband because the police were so fucking incompetent (Goodbye Earl)
"Well, it wasn't two weeks after she got married that Wanda started gettin' abused She'd put on dark glasses and long sleeved blouses And makeup to cover a bruise Well, she finally got the nerve to file for divorce She let the law take it from there But Earl walked right through that restraining order And put her in intensive care
Right away Mary Anne flew in from Atlanta On a red eye midnight flight She held Wanda's hand and they worked out a plan And it didn't take 'em long to decide That Earl had to die"
Talked about slut shaming and the double standard on female sexuality (Sin Wagon)
"He pushed me 'round Now I'm drawin' the line He lived his life Now I'm gonna go live mine I'm sick of wastin' my time Well now I've been good for way too long Found my red dress and I'm gonna throw it on"
Released a song about the importance of protest movements, particularly those led by youth and minorities. the song was written pre George Floyd, but in the music video as well as on tour they displayed names and pictures of those killed by cops, as well as mass shootings (March March)
"Brenda's packin' heat 'cause she don't like Mondays Underpaid teacher policin' the hallways Print yourself a weapon and take it to the gun range (Ah, cut the shit, you ain't goin' to the gun range) Standin' with Emma and our sons and daughters Watchin' our youth have to solve our problems I'll follow them, so who's comin' with me? (Half of you love me, half already hate me)...
Tell the ol' boys in the white bread lobby What they can and can't do with their bodies Temperatures are risin', cities are sinkin' (Ah, cut the shit, you know your city is sinkin') Lies are truth and truth is fiction Everybody's talkin', who's gonna listen? What the hell happened in Helsinki?"
Wrote a song about how conservatives will try to depoliticize left leaning artists so that conservative regions can claim ownership over their art and the money they bring in via tourism/cultural events. also religious hypocrisy in general (Lubbock or Leave It)
"Throwing stones from the top of your rock Thinking no one can see The secrets you hide behind Your southern hospitality...
As I'm getting out I laugh to myself 'Cause this is the only place Where as you're getting on the plane You see Buddy Holly's face
I hear they hate me now Just like they hated you Maybe when I'm dead and gone I'm gonna get a statue too"
On their most recent tour they dedicated a significant amount of time to criticizing De Santis and Putin, even showing them on the Jumbotron over the lyrics "You're gonna get what you got coming to ya if its the last thing I see" over and over. (Tights On My Boat)
This is a non exhaustive list, but just a reminder that country music in its truest form is about standing up for the oppressed and saying fuck you to those who stomp on other people. Although that might not get a lot of play on country radio anymore, it is there and it is powerful.
The kids on TikTok think that just because he was a classic country singer, Johnny Cash was conservative??? My babies he covered a Nine Inch Nails song in his seventies.
Classic country singers (the majority of which came from poor roots) were always talking about how much The Man sucked because they were taking money from poor rural folk. You’re gonna tell me that’s conservative?? Get outta here.

This is what the latest hk3 look like with a V-Twin 2 and it was a 250 CC and the one we have now is faster it's like 15 horsepower and this had like 10 and this bike would go 100 miles an hour the tires are like this but they're a little smaller not much and it's smoother the exhaust is like this it's awesome looks like a bobber and it's cool looking and it is what I want to try and sell and I want to sell it as hard knock kicker 5150, it says this is what they're looking for and we know it you want to go over here you want to fight the clones for me which is fine and this is a perfect thing to do right now when I come over and say that's our company you can't sell it and all this dumb s*** then you won't make any agreement I'll probably end up doing with my grandson to try and get them over here again. He doesn't care as much as people think but at least have money but he's hoping just for maybe something to ride around on or 49cc won't move this that much probably go 40 miles an hour I do have the HK one designs and the hk2 and he wants me to put all three out with different size motors the HK one would have a 49cc the hk2 would have a 110cc I'm over the 200 or the 250 and the hk3 would have the 200 or the 250 and both are V-Twin and both are nice and you know what it's a great idea there's a whole bunch of smaller people who need bikes and the revolution kind of fail and you're small and everybody would be mad we would see who we're going to go ahead I'm going to start this and we have several websites that will probably put them on there and actually one of them's go-kart.com and you can try and order one now and then can't get it to you but it says right on there out of supply right now they just change it anyway because of the Chinese and people won't buy it he wants to look like his design and I agree and there's a couple other designs that I like and he does too and the original ones and the frames and everything be the same but the connections are stronger the metal is better and the parts are better for the bike and I'm going to start the purse price out about 2300 for an hk3 with a 250 v-twin and he says not to go much higher and I will try and trim it down I do see what he's saying there's ways to do it without sacrificing the quality of the machine side and it is to make parts rapidly and he said to go ahead and do it and people are looking for that these things will sound like madness and they're going to come here into a certain place and they're going to go after them and it really is what they need to do and right now what a pain in the ass and my people love these bikes too there's a point to that it's my grandson's design and I put it out there like that Randall and he got him to go to China he knew about it too and he was in Vietnam so come on let's be real this is a great thing
Wie Chan Lin
I think you won't do it but then again I might be the competition and you're saying the pad stuff might be mine Pagsta might be mine and yeah the 300 was great I'm going to start that up again I don't know why I'm not doing it he said he might buy that instead and you know what this is working out great it's just like 100 rebel it's a little slower and it doesn't care but the motors are better than they used to be we can make them beefed up or sell performance kid as an ad in the shop or aftermarket I'm going to go ahead and start this now
Jet li
Well they say they're going to do it and usually they don't end up doing it. So it's starting to piss me off that everybody's saying this about this bike and I don't know why the hell this is a big deal everybody wants everyone in the mental hospital so I'm trying to figure it out no I'm going to check into this

zhongli ▪︎ glazed moon
pairing: zhongli x traveler!reader
genre(s): comfort + mild angst + fluff
summary: liyue harbor is once again preparing for another festival — the mid-autumn festival. but somehow she simply couldn't bring herself to join the others in the celebration. definitely not when her heart is aching in melancholy for her missing twin. — | m.list
background: this scenario takes place during the mid-autumn festival - as quoted from wikipedia - it is the second-most important holiday after Chinese New Year with a history dating back 3,000 years, when China's emperors worshipped the moon for bountiful harvests.[2] The celebration is called Chuseok (autumn eve) in Korea, Tsukimi (moon-viewing) in Japan and Tết Trung Thu (Mid-Autumn Festival) in Vietnam
this event celebrated by the chinese is usually spent eating mooncakes and drinking teas. lanterns are also an important aspect of this festival. unlike the yuanxiao fesitval or mingxiao festival (which is the fictional festival featuring best boy Xiao in GI) where lanterns are released into the sky, lanterns are hand-held. this is a festival i celebrate every year hence i'm familiar with it — feel free to read up about this on wiki!
a/n: don't mind me, this is just a random idea that popped in my head. i'm in the mood for some angsty stuff these days so just had to get it out. Flute version of 无羁 (Wu Ji) from the drama 'Untamed' was the song which inspired my angsty mood while typing this. pardon my errors (I may have missed them and i kinda wrote this on a spur sooooo yea)
Please do me a favor and reblog this. Thank youuuu ❤
the vitality of liyue harbor has always been astounding; an envy of the seven nations.
bright, bustling streets even in the darkness of nights was enough to show the nature of the city.
though, today it was a different kind of bustle. stores were already closed; even the nocturnal businesses that one would only see at night.
the moon had been bright and round the past few nights while the people busied themselves for another festival to come.
— the mid-autumn festival, an annual festival celebrated by the people of liyue or at least that was what zhongli explained yesterday when he extended an invitation to her to join him and others in moon-gazing today.
tonight, the moon shone bright and full in the clear dark sky, seemingly more so than the previous nights.
strategically rooted to the ground of a spacious balcony overlooking the gentle waves below, the stone tables were in a perfect spot beneath the brilliant moon.
colorful mooncakes of various flavors and teacups filled with steaming tea laid before her.
she sat at one of the round stone tables with some funeral parlor staff and of course, zhongli himself who has been rather busy ever since she arrived—
the cheerful chatters and laughter drew her eyes away from the empty seat beside her and to the tables across theirs.
his archon days were over, he said.
he was simply trying to experience a mundane life as 'zhongli' now, as the geo archon had put it when she expressed her surprise at his involvement with a festival fabricated by the mortals' minds.
and indeed—
her gaze idled on him.
— he was doing it too well.
illuminated by the golden glow the table lanterns emanated, the cordial and relaxed atmosphere was warmed by attentive eyes and smiling lips.
all on him.
apparently, some things never changed. whether he was rex lapis or zhongli, he carried an alluring elegance and charisma. clinging to every word and his occasional hand gestures, they were like moths drawn to a flame.
she could understand why; she liked hearing him talk. she would have gone over too, if not...if not for this weight on her heart.
it has been nearly a year since she was in teyvat looking for her twin. these few days in the harbor, the full moon was a constant reminder of how time has passed, and yet...
a heavy sigh escaped her. a longing gleam waned in her eyes as she lifted her gaze to the sky.
they used to talk and eat under a full moon just like this, a bitter ache clenched her heart.
her teeth sank into her lower lip as it trembled.
please...not now. her hands curled into shaking fists as she tried to hold back the tears threatening to leave her eyes.
not now. not at this party. she silently pleaded with herself, her squared shoulders shaking. it took all her willpower to not let the dam break.
but one managed to escape her anyway.
—shit.
she was up on her feet fast and slipped away from the party as subtly as she could.
stumbling out of the party half-blind with tears wasn't exactly the best situation to remember about the cloak meant to keep her warm on an autumn night.
luckily, she didn't end up falling off the stairs she currently sat on.
autumn in liyue was typically not cold, but tonight seemed especially so.
she shivered to the chilly breeze brushing against her back. goosebumps crawled across her skin, particularly on the areas her dress failed to protect against the cold.
she couldn't quite bring herself to go back for the cloak. not with the mess she was now.
the sight of the round moon above wavered in her vision as tears quietly trailed down her cheeks.
under the vast, seemingly endless night sky, she felt small...
— her knees were drawn closer to her chest, curled fingers digging into her dress.
...and extremely powerless.
where is he? why can't she find him? is he even in teyvat? Is he even...still alive? does he even exist anymore?
—a dreading sense of hopelessness echoed in her heart and summoned another wave of tears wavering her vision.
under this wide, endless sky and its luminous moon, she felt alone, truly alone in the presence of the joyous cacophony of laughter and playful yells coming from the festival she left behind.
a nasty voice prompted by the noise taunted her — of how no one would notice, even if she were to walk right out of liyue harbor right now.
drowning in harsh, relentless thoughts, she failed to notice the gaze of a pair of wise, golden eyes on her back, soft with concern.
long legs covered the distance between them in a quiet, graceful stride; the gentle clacks of his loafers whenever their heels hit the ground slipped past her notice too.
not even when he climbed down the steps to settle himself next to her, a step above hers.
not even the inevitable proximity between their bodies caused by the short stairs spacious for one but narrow for two.
only until his coat was off his shoulders and wrapped around hers—
"why the tears on the mid-autumn festival?"
—she jolted with a sharp gasp, her widening eyes snapping over to him.
the calm and prodding gaze that met hers was accompanied by the tender brush of his thumb across her left cheek, right under her tearing eye before switching over to her other.
"zh-zhongli?"
she stayed stunned, unsure she was feeling so because someone noticed she had left or was it because of this simple gesture.
zhongli has always been a mentor-like figure to her. his words, his wise gazes, the comforting pets he occasionally gave on her head and back had always reminded her of how she was a mere child in his eyes.
but tonight...this, nothing about the gentleness his hand or his eyes emanate felt normal. or was she just delirious?
the strange stutter of her heart caused by the hand on her face, the blush heating up her cheeks made her tear her gaze away from his, flustered.
zhongli let his hand drop back onto his knee, but his eyes stayed.
crossing her arms to hold onto his coat sitting on her shoulders, she thought hard to recall his question.
"i can't help thinking about my brother, that's all." she looked back at him, smiling.
a smile he thought reminded him of the moon when it was not yet full — a quiet light melancholic with vague sadness.
"don't worry about me, i'll be fine." she slipped a glance over her shoulder in the direction of the festival. "you should go back there, zhongli, they need you. what's mid-autumn festival for liyue without you?"
she moved to remove the coat from her shoulders, but a hand wrapped around her wrist stopped her.
"but what's mid-autumn festival without you, my dear friend?"
zhongli regarded her intently, his eyes boring into hers for a second before shifting to focus on his coat.
there was something else in his eyes when they return to hers; it came and went in a flicker. "...keep this on, it's chilly today."
"thanks..." she murmured, her shoulders sinking as she yet again returned her thoughts to her brother.
"aether..." the pain she guarded showed on her face. "will i ever be able to see him again?"
tears started to well up in her eyes once again.
"i'm sorry, zhongli, i'm so sorry..." a quiet sob broke through, "today is supposed to be about the mid-autumn festival, and yet...here you are, listening to me."
zhongli's mouth opened then snapped close.
he always knew what to say whenever she was in a pinch. however, it was tears this time, and he wasn't exactly sure about what he should do about his body's urge to extend his arms out to her.
he was already more than a thousand years old.
as the former geo archon, he was the immovable rock. emotions and impulses he used to hold within himself in his younger days were buried deep under the sands of time...or at least they should be.
so where did this come from? was this strange stir an inevitable part of being a mortal?
"you know what?"
her movement to rise from the spot beside him turned his head back to her.
resolute hardened the glint in her tearing eyes, "i don't want to hold you back any longer,"
her fingers curled into a shaky fist, nails digging into her palm.
"....the people need you. i-i think i should just go bac—"
his hand flew out before he could think any further; his body was faster than his thoughts this time.
her next breath puffed out of her, in surprise and bewilderment as her body was tugged and cocooned by a breathing warmth before she could understand what happened.
and when she did, her eyes flew wide.
cheek pressed against his neck, she found herself held to his chest. she could feel his chin atop her head and his arms around her.
he was beside her a moment ago, and now he was behind sharing the same step as her, broad enough to accommodate them. was she the one who moved? or did he?
she didn't know how but she couldn't find the energy to care —the scent of musk and lingering tea engulfing her was an alluring comfort that made her want to stop trying.
so warm. really, really warm.
and so was his voice. "...but you need me." a hand caressed the back of her head.
there was a pause before a feigned cough ensued. "i meant, this."

Is Wheel of Time worth reading? Are there any characters of color and what ethnicities are they, specifically, if you don’t mind my asking? I’m debating whether or not it’s worth reading the series, because I love deep worldbuilding, but I need at least one Black person or other POC in it for it to intrigue me lol
I answered a similar question a while back and I'd recommend you to go through that because I really dig into why I had fun reading the series because I'll mostly address people of colour in this post.
If you're short on time at the moment I'll very briefly summarise my feelings - would I recommend it? I mean, that question has no right answer! This is partly because it's one of those kinds of series that doesn't work for everybody and has a lot of flaws but for me it works despite all of that because the positive parts of it outweigh the negative - and I just really, really love the gorgeous worldbuilding (both, magic-system wise and culture-wise) and his storytelling style - it's packed with references to greek mythology, norse mythology, arthuriana, religions (buddhism, christianity) etc which makes reading the books a very thoughtful exercise. Plus he excels at foreshadowing stuff ages in advance so rereads are always fun.
And yes, there are plenty of people of colour in the series although you mostly start to see them from book 4 and they're treated with enough care that I feel happy and comfortable living in the world as opposed to say, asoiaf, which made me really upset two years ago when I read the first book. I really liked that he gave people of colour plenty of nuance and I'm pretty sure Egwene and Nynaeve who're among the most important leads are women of colour although the representation on that front is very vague and I only really recall their skin colour being discussed in a special prologue for the first book. But I can't really say the people of colour are really based on specific ethnicities - I know for sure that people from Tear, Altara, Saldaea, Arad Domon, etc are people of colour and we spend significant time in all these places but he drew inspiration from various cultures to construct the nations so you don't really have a specific ethnicity you can pinpoint (for example: 1. Tarabon has influences of china, turkey and sparta 2. Cairhien has influences of france and japan 3. Tear has influences of spain, vietnam and korea). In a way this just makes sense to me since the story takes place in a post-apocalyptic world set far into our future (ours being the first age, the age of legends being the second age, and the story setting being the third age).
There are black people, yes! Again, the books are flawed and I'd advice caution. Especially memorable are Elayne's time spent with the Sea Folk (who're black) in book 4 (and they have recurring roles throughout the series) and Mat's loving descriptions of his wife, Tuon (which is again significant because Mat is one of the three main male leads). But there are a bunch of uncomfortable set ups - by all means Tuon is one of my favourite characters because she's so complex and layered but she's also essentially the heir to a settler colonialist empire that practices slavery and the leaders of the Sea Folk (all black women) tend to be portrayed as really aggressive and insufferable towards the latter half of the series. Part of this is just RJ's tendency to make women super ambitious and he goes out of his way to highlight how different people fiercely fight to prioritise the wellbeing of their own people before others' (another example being the Wise Ones of the Aiel who're all again women prioritising the wellbeing of their people before the wellbeing of other people in the Westlands) but it can still make the experience distasteful.
Elayne's ancestor, the first queen of Andor, is also a dark-skinned black woman, but I thought it was weird that Elayne's super white and red-headed lol.
#asks#anon asks#text#wheel of time#again. this is a white guy writing poc and it's good to take that as a reference point but I also did explicitly feel very happy and#comfortable reading his stuff so I'd recommend the series any day

So i made an ai generate logince fanfiction and it came up with this:
Roman and Logan were making out when Patton and Virgil came across them.
They were easy to spot.
The other two were a little harder.
They were invisible to the human eye.
Roman had to turn around and have Logan turn around so he could see them.
Patton's image was less well - defined because of the high ground, but Virgil's face was still clear enough for Roman to see.
"I'm getting over it," Virgil said.
"I'm trying to get over it.
I do do."
"I know I can be emotional, Patton."
"You just go and spoil it."
"You're upset."
"You don't need to be upset about it."
"I'm upset about it and you're making it worse."
"I'm not."
"Yes you are.
You're being an ass**le."
"You just want to do this."
"Because of Logan."
"Logan is an option."
"You're being a**hole."
"Fine.
Don't talk to me."
He walked to his Harley and waited until he saw them pulling away.
"You're an ass**le," Roman said.
Logan winced.
"I've had a lot of practice."
Patton spoke up.
"You're going to get us killed."
Roman glanced at his younger brother.
"He hasn't let anything happen to us yet, so it's not like we should get his spleen."
Patton wasn't moved.
"He's an expert, Roman.
If he says to leave him behind-"
"Virgil and I are getting killed if we leave him behind."
Patton ground his teeth.
"Fine.
Logan will stay."
Roman met Logan's eyes and watched as his younger brother seemed to reach some understanding.
"I can get back."
"We'll see about that."
Patton scowled.
"You think this is easy for me?
No, I'm pissed off at having my head shoved in this damn department's ass.
This whole P.I. craze is nuts, and it was left to you to clean up the mess.
If you have to lie to people in order to be this department's man, then do it.
But I don't need this headache, and I sure as hell don't need the wrath of that psychotic ex of yours."
Roman loved his brother, but Patton was the most emotional person he knew.
"I don't lie."
"I know you don't."
Patton nodded.
"You could at one point.
A long time ago, but not anymore.
So quit the fear, man.
Just go with it."
"I don't."
Patton ignored him.
"Just go home and get over it.
I'll see you on Saturday."
Logan finally spoke.
"We'll be in touch.
Remember, you don't have to do anything you don't want to do."
Roman nodded.
"I know.
I just wanted you to know I'm on board with this."
"I got that."
Patton clapped him on the back.
"Get out of here, big guy.
I'm not going to need you for any more favors."
Roman waved and walked up to the dirt road.
He glanced up the highway, but there was no sign of Virgil's bike.
"He didn't see us," Logan said.
"It's my fault," Roman said.
"He wouldn't have even seen us if it wasn't for me.
He'd have gone on his merry way."
"You don't get to blame yourself for the actions of others."
"I'm a PI, Logan.
It's what I do.
I got involved in this case because that woman saw the pictures I'd done for the old lady.
And the more I looked into it, the more convinced I was that she was a victim.
If this guy can hurt a woman that badly, what would he do to some innocent woman?"
"Virgil's a good man.
He wouldn't be the first one this bastard has taken down."
"He wouldn't be the first," Roman repeated.
He didn't want to believe it, but there was no reason not to.
He'd seen the same look in his brother's eyes before.
"I'm gonna go home and get my stuff."
Roman pulled out his wallet.
"Would you do me a favor?"
"Anything."
"Call in the rent.
I can't put in for two weeks."
"I'll get it on Saturday."
"Thanks."
He paused.
"How's your family?"
Logan smiled.
"Still crazy."
"Is this the only place you live?
Because it's like the land of the damned."
"Yeah, but it's home.
My dad came out here before the Vietnam war and never left.
So he and Mom made it their home."
Roman supposed he could understand.
It was a beautiful, peaceful place.
"So how's your private investigation business going?"
"Slowly.
I don't think I could pull off running a restaurant."
"When you're not doing detective work, what else do you do?"
"I'm a tattoo artist.
I own a place called Death Tattoo in New Orleans."
Roman had been there once on a work visit.
"How long are you in town?"
"As long as this case takes.
I've got to be careful."
"How's your sister?"
"Good.
She's the best.
Cassy, though, is less than thrilled with what's happening to her brother.
She and Chad get into these fights.
Cassy is very protective of him, and I know she's worried about losing him."
"The rest of your family is okay?"
"They're great.
Mom is the best.
She really loves being part of the family.”

going after Purity now? starting to think you like shitty drama
OKAY SO
i'll just give a rundown of the plot
danny and his mom move from new jersey to los angeles in california. she keeps on hyping it up and when they get there it's just,,,,, dingy apartments so he already isn't happy. he had to leave his friends n school n all that shit. he goes to a beach party w/friends and sticks up for a cute girl but her ex (johnny lawrence) ends up beating his ass and makes a fool of him cause johnny has like,,,, Actual teaching about karate n shit but daniel doesn't. he eventually becomes friends w/the handyman for the apartments, my miyagi who's a first gen immigrant from japan. stand in dad that becomes Real Dad (he doesn't get w/momma larusso but does start to become danny's actual father figure.)
eventually danny goes to another fuckin party (you think he'd learn to keep to himself) after being bullied by johnny and his friends. he goes to the bathroom and hides as soon as he sees Da Cobras (just four other guys that go to cobra kai dojo lol) but eventually takes a hose and sprays a buncha fuckin water on johnny while he's holed up in a stall tryna roll a joint. obviously, johnny gets fuckin pissed and they end up chasing danny throughout town. mr miyagi sees this, intervenes, and ends up beating children's asses
miyagi
one of johnny's friends ends up with an Arm Hurty so you see it in a sling for a while but it heals back up, nothing major
anyways, daniel gets all fuckin Angry Crying about how they know all this karate shit and how he doesn't so that means he's always gonna lose (granted, he could just,,,,,,, not provoke them like in the bathroom scene) so they go down to the cobra kai dojo and it's too expensive for just his mom to pay for. kreese is the teacher and he has a bunch of special forces vietnam paraphernalia n medals of honor n shit hanging up from his glory days(he doesn't say it outright but this man is RACIST i fucking KNOW IT) so miyagi goes to him n asks for a peace thing. daniel can learn w/them and they'll leave him alone but kreese just kinda laughs. an under 18 tournament is goin on so miyagi proposes that he'll teach daniel himself to go up against kreese's students but in exchange, these kids have to fuckin leave danny alone to train.
kreese likes Challenge so he agrees, fully getting a weird boner for "oughhhh yeah we're gonna fuckin break this kid's ARM"
daniel says WHAT THE HELL, MAN and miyagi makes him do a buncha chores for him night n day for muscle memory that'll help w/certain Schmoves. very cheesy but vv good. when danny gets fed up w/it, miyagi just fights his bitch ass n what daniel's been doing has been defense adjacent so he's able to finally act kinda competently in this sorta fight. lotsa training n stuff but just know eventually there's passive racism towards miyagi and he almost throws hands and tells them to fuckin get their bitch asses outta his sight. but the whole deal w/miyagi is that he's been in war so he no longer wants to be aggressive or offensive, his whole thing is defense only
best defense is No Be There. get outta that place before anything can start lmao, thats the first tip because OBVIOUSLY danny cannot leave people alone
i love him but damn, where's he gettin all this fuckin confidence from jfc
eventually miyagi opens up to danny about how he was in the military for ww2 and how he lost his late wife and child while they were in internment camps. it's really heavy, actually
it turns out miyagi still has the note breaking the news to him and daniel finds it in his house after miyagi falls asleep
he keeps his medal of honor and all pictures hidden away, he fuckin hates those memories. it's a really good foil for kreese and the writing is fuckin GOOD
when daniel turns 18 i think? the wiki says that but it's also publicly edited so i'm assuming the tournament is for people younger than 18 and people who are eighteen kinda like,,,,, the uhh less than Or equal to sign in math
ANYWAYS, WHEN DANNY'S BIRTHDAY COMES, MIYAGI GIVES HIM AN ACTUAL GI
it's very sweet
he also gives him one of the cars he fuckin polished for hours and hours and hours because miyagi already has a bunch of older ones he's working on
danny ends up taking his Love Inch Rest to the boardwalk or somethn with it and finally doesn't feel embarrassed to be w/allie, someone who you can tell comes from a middle class family
honest to god this movie touches on subtle classism too and it hits Too close to home
0/10, him interacting w/allie's parents feels TOO MUCH like when i, a colored poor child, met the parents of my friends, well off white people
there's a whole woaghhhhh love triangle for allie, him, n johnny but honestly it just feels gay
anyways, allie is late to their date so daniel goes to the country club thing through the back and kitchens and he sees johnny kiss her, he bumps into someone w/Spaghet and he's just,,,, on the floor covered in it and his white shirt is fucking ruined. he runs out of there crying while allie tries to explain that it Actually wasn't what it looked like
the secondhand embarrassment, man
OOF
anyways, the tournament comes up and daniel rises through the ranks etc etc, he starts getting nervous because he'll have to beat bobby n johnny (they're gay 'friends' <33) and oh god that's fucking INTIMIDATING
kreese forces bobby to do an illegal move to fuck up daniel's leg and that forces bobby to get dq'ed for something he's been working for all year along w/hurting someone he never wanted to really HURT
where one of my favorite scenes comes from because that scene says SO MUCH even if you don't watch ANY of the rest of the movie
like, bobby is always the one to tell the others off when they're starting to seriously harm danny. he mediates n tells tommy off when he tries to bait johnny into responses. he doesn't want any SERIOUS harm to come to danny or anyone they make fun of, so kreese forcing him to fuck up daniel's leg and bobby listening anyways says,,,,,, a Lot. because he's scared of kreese and what he'll do if he doesn't listen. i'm not making this up, kreese is canonically abusive and the opening to the sequel takes place right after the tournament and it's really upsetting to me lmao
he puts johnny in a chokehold and smashes his fuckin hand through a car window, breaks the second place medal in fuckin throws it out into the rest of the parking lot, and miyagi has to step in yet again
BUT THAT'S THE SECOND MOVIE
just healthy father figure things ❤️ ✨
anyways, daniel still continues on after bobby hurts his leg which was SUPPOSED to take him out of the fuckin tournament. and neither him nor johnny can get the upper hand on the other but eventually after Woaghhhh Build Up, danny beats him
and then johnny does genuinely go " you're alright, larusso" while handing him the medal/whatever thing
and a lot of people forget about that scene
like, that part of it
johnny's a sore loser but not that much of a sore loser and by the end of the movie, he didn't fully hate daniel
SO ANYWAYS THAT WAS ME RETELLING THE WHOLE MOVIE, DID YOU LIKE THE SECONDHAND VERSION
i didn't mean to actually go into everything :BlobFearSweat:
it was supposed to be only a Rundown

After six long months, I present to you:
Tupelo Honey
Word Count- 3k
Warnings- language, angst, discussion of abortion
A/N- With help from familiar strangers, Honey makes a choice that will change Leon's life and hers forever.
Chapter 4: Angel of The Morning
Late fall of 1968, Morning:
Honey clutched at the pillow as her hips flew towards the ceiling. Her back arched before she bent forward and twisted her free hand in Leon's thick hair. His name echoed off the bedroom walls as she came without caring if they woke Johnny this early.
Honey’s chest heaved as her body attempted to regulate her breath. Leon threw the sheets back and looked up at her. His hand absently ran up and down her stomach to her breasts and back.
“What?” Honey’s voice was sleepy as she met a green-eyed gaze. She propped up on her elbows when his brows knit together. “What's wrong?”
“Not much, love. It's just, your..” Leon's cheeks turned kinda pink, “stuff tastes different. You been eating anything new?”
“No? You mean it tastes different when I cum?”
“Just this time. You gonna start your thing?” He pointed towards Honey’s sex. “Period.”
“I don't think so. Should be around any day now though.”
Leon crawled up towards the pillows and laid down beside his girlfriend. His arm draped across her collarbone as he snuggled up to her shoulder. He nipped at the skin before kissing it. Then pressed his forehead into her neck.
Honey caught a scent of herself on him. “It even kinda smells different. I better get to the clinic just in case. I've not felt that weird other than that stomach bug.” Her nails lightly scratched Leon's forearm as she spoke. “I can't have an STI, since you went all mad and demanded my undying monogamy.”
Leon ignored her. “Maybe,” he yawned and stretched his impossibly long arms and legs straight out, “you caught a case of the pregnancy.” He sat up and leaned down to kiss her stomach.
“Don't say that!” Leon's familiar whine filled Honey’s own voice. “I won't keep it. That's legal here now.”
Leon stared back at her, “Just like that.”
“It's my body, Leonidas. Look at how short I am. Imagine this knocked up,” Honey waved a hand down the length of her naked self.
“I do.” It came out a whisper. Honey glowered. “Don't pull that face on me, Gracie. I know it's your body. We just ain't exactly safe with our shaggin’ are we? Leavin’ it up to chance. Then you get angry if there's one on the way. Keep it. End it. Give it up for adoption. I know it's YOUR choice. You tell me all the bloody time about it being your body. I respect that because I love you. Before you give me cheek, I think about having a baby with you loads.”
“Leon that's not what we want.” Honey sat up on her haunches beside him. “Look at us. We share a one bedroom flat with a ginger con man that we don't even sleep in half the time based on whether he wants to fuck someone or not. Our loo is literally a closet, and we have to shower at your parents’. There's one dresser and half a wardrobe for both of us. Where the hell would we even PUT a baby let alone afford to have one.”
“We've saved money! My parents would help us get a proper house or flat. Or stay with them until we could.”
“Oh sure. Us, your parents, your Yia Yia, one uncle and a baby. Sounds cozy.”
“I grew up in a place with more living there than that. We could get a loan.”
“What will we put down for occupations, Leon?!” Honey was losing her cool. A wave of nausea hit her, but she choked it back. “Occasional actor, waiter, and FBI fugitive?! I can't out myself like that.”
“We lie. I'm an actor. I'm sure you know loads of people who could fake it. Look respectable. I'll cut my hair and clean up my face.” Leon was equally annoyed, hands fidgeting in his lap. His legs started to bounce up and down as he reached, but fumbled with the nightstand drawer.
“Don't you fucking dare cut that hair. Who will we even pretend to be? Patti Boyd and fucking George Harrison? I'm an awful blonde and your hair would take hours to straighten. Leon we would have to fake marriage certificates. That's fraud. Real and proper, honest prison time fraud.”
Leon ignored her and finally yanked the drawer practically in half. The handle came off in his hands causing him to mumble under his breath and drop it to the ground. In a fury he tossed the contents aside in a search for something Honey wasn't sure of.
“If you're about to get high, I'll fucking leave you right now.” Honey got up and snapped her fingers in Leon's face. “We're not done talking about this.”
He looked up at her, his green eyes ablaze for the first time in their relationship. “I'm not GETTING high! Will you quit talking to me like I'm a bloody fucking child? You and Johnny always like I'm mad or deficient. I have a university degree from Cambridge, and I speak three languages. I'm observant not stupid.”
“That's.. That's not what I meant,” Honey bit her lip. “You are one of the smartest guys I've ever met. I just.. Worry about the amount of opium you started sneaking into your pot. You're working less and letting Johnny call the shots.”
Leon was lost in his search, “You’re just jealous of someone else pushing me around?” He waved his hand dismissively before Honey could answer. “I’m fine, love. I'm just a bit stressed is all. It helps me relax.”
“Leon, it's heroin. You know what happened to my uncle.”
He ignored her, “I’ll be swell. Promise. Plus I think this idea Johnny has finally.. DAMMIT WHERE'S THAT TOSSER OF A RING?!”
Something fell off the bed onto the wooden floor with a PING! Leon got down on all fours, stark naked and put his eye to the wood. His arm outstretched and came back to him with an object between his long fingers. He held it aloft towards Honey and took her tiny hand inside of his large one. Honey stopped breathing.
“It's not exactly proper, but you aren't exactly a girl into convention, are ya?” Leon smiled up at his girlfriend. He kissed the back of Honey’s hand. “You think better of me than I think of myself. I want to make you happy, and I want to be a good husband and daddy. If this meeting tonight doesn't go well, I'll stop acting. No more pot or opium or acid or coke right bloody now. I'll get a proper job and we can get a proper house and when the time comes, you choose whatever you want. Stay home. Go to work, I'll stay home. So you aren't loaded down by the patriarchy or whatever.”
“Leon,” Honey’s face was pale and she started to swoon. She saw the way his hand swallowed hers, and panicked. Her fucked up brain saw herself lost in Leon the same way.
“Even if we go to the court, just us. Even if we have to leave London because you're worried. I'll go with you. To India like you sorted out before we met. I don't want you to give up on any dream because of this baby. Or me.”
Before she could get any answer out, Leon slid the ring on Honey’s finger. It was stunning, carved marble and amethyst. She knew it was old, Grecian.
“It's purple because Dionysus cried and spilled his wine onto a maiden he offended by his drunkenness. Artemis protected her, turned her to crystal and she absorbed his wine. It sobered him. Your love, when I'm not foolish, will sober me.”
“Leon,” Honey said again, unable to say anything else.
“Will you please marry me, Gracie?”
The question was so pure. His eyes were so green and hopeful. Honey couldn't think or speak around the lump in her throat. But then..
“I can't,” she whispered. “I have to go to the clinic. You've got an early shift at the restaurant.”
Honey was numb as she pulled on some clothes and her coat. She left the flat and Leon naked on his knees in the bedroom.
----
Later that afternoon:
Honey stared straight passed the nurse as she explained exactly what would happen if she decided to not keep the baby. How they suggest she not be alone and to have someone willing to care for her. To make sure there's no infection.
“Ultimately, dove, it's your decision. Unless you're cold-hearted, it might do your head in. It's not as easy as you modern girls think. You might not regret it, but you might. You prepared? Is your husband keen on this idea too?” The nurse nodded at the ring.
“Oh.. we aren't.. I didn't really give him a choice?”
“Well let's see if you're even pregnant first. Then I want you to go back to your partner and have a good talk. Promise me you'll do that?”
The young woman smiled. It was tentative and nervous. “Yeah. Ok. But it won't change my mind.” She held out her arm for the blood draw and took a cup and left for the loo.
Honey sat on the stairs of the clinic and bent down in a wave of nausea. It was amazing that now she knew she was knocked up the symptoms seemed to worsen. Like how noticing a paper cut makes it suddenly sting.
Her breasts were swollen and a fire built in her chest and stomach every time she laid down. What was the absolute worst, she came to realize, how mean she had been to Leon. A total uncool bitch. Honey looked down at the amethyst on her ring finger and began to cry.
“Hey man, you ok?” a voice asked. American.
“Jesus, don't call her man! What is wrong with you?” a female American voice.
“Leave me alone! Last time I was here, I was in Vietnam. I'm freaking the fuck out, Sel.”
“weren't you a cu-”
“Uh!! This is about them, not me.”
One of them sat down next to Honey. “My brother is right, are you ok? Honey, right?”
Honey looked up to meet eyes that almost took her breath away. A young woman around her age smiled and it reminded her of Leon. Her shoulder length hair had soft waves and curls, but her eyes. Her eyes somehow looked like Honey’s.
“Do I know you?” she squinted her eyes and tilted her head.
“Not yet,” the woman’s cheeks pinked a little. “We're.. Leon's..”
“Cousins!” a male voice interjected.
“I didn't know Leon had cousins from- Fuck me on the tube.”
“Tempting, but I don't think Leon would be down for that.” The inflection of his voice, despite being yank, was so much like his.. cousin’s. “My sister and I have been looking all over this stupid city for you the last few days. To meet you before we left. Leon told my sister you were here. He seemed pretty pissed. This is an uh,” he gestured at the building.
“Abortion clinic?”
“You sure that's how you want to handle it?” the young woman questioned softly.
“Well I don't think Leon has the balls to push me down the stairs,” Honey shrugged.
Leon’s cousin, if that's who she was heaved a sigh. “I like to think I have a sharp tongue and a bit of a shrewd mind. I get it from MY mom. Can I be straight with you?”
“I mean I guess it's easier from a stranger?”
“I know for a FACT you won't be giving up on anything. You are already more involved in changing the world than most people your age. And that doesn't have to stop because you're pregnant. Activists can have children or partners. Take her with you! Take Leon! You come from a long line of shit kickers, right?”
Honey narrowed her eyes. She studied this woman’s face again. Her eyes. HER eyes somehow. But Leon’s features. If she had a daughter, this is who she would want her to be. Sharp, like herself, but optimistic like her daddy.
Daddy.. “Did you say her? How do you know any of this? I swear Leon’s family is here or in Greece. You've got to be close, this one is like fucking Patty Duke. Identical cousins. Man you sure you're cool?”
He scratched his body and Honey heard a tinkling. Then she saw the dog tags. “Yeah I'm gravy.” He looked the way Leon had when she rejected him earlier. It broke Honey’s heart all over.
“Drafted?”
He held out his tags and had this longing in his eyes, “Love.”
“You went to Vietnam for love?”
“I stayed for it. Hardest thing I've ever done besides sobriety. Having a kid and an old man is a fucking piece of cake. If you were gonna go through with.. Termination, I think you would've done it right?”
“I just don't know if I have good enough of a reason besides maybe it'll be fine. I don't know what is freaking me the hell out! We both have happily married parents!! And grandparents. But I've put so much on hold for men. I've let them.”
“Yeah but Leon’s not like that.”
“No. He's not. But the drugs and the hare brained schemes terrify me. My uncle, Lenny Bruce? He ran cons with his wife that he knocked up and they were just. Tumultuous. He loved heroin almost more than Honey and Kitty. It killed him in the end. I don't want Leon and I to be the fluke too.”
“If I tell you to say the FIRST thing that comes to your mind about Leon. No thinking, open your mouth and speak. What is the first part of him you think of.”
“His kind eyes. Your eyes,” she gestured towards the man. “Yours are a bit lost, but they're still just as gentle.”
He bit his lip. Honey noticed it trembled just a tad. “Same thing,” his voice hoarse. “What's the first thing that you would DO for him?”
“Be with him in every life we've ever lived and ever will.”
The woman beside her took Honey’s hand in both of hers. Her annoying familiarity forced Honey to listen to everything she was about to say.
“My parents came from a similar taboo situation. They were immigrants (my dad twice), during the worst war. Activists who got in a bit of a mess. They were separated for a while when my mom was pregnant with me. She had me alone. Yet they have been together for OVER 25 years.”
“I cannot imagine two people better suited for each other than my parents. They trust one another IMPLICITLY and are both still very attracted to one another. Trust me. It's gross.!
“Now they have a successful business. My younger brother and I have our own jobs to pay for ourselves, but our parents are paying for us to go to school. Marriage or partnerships are work, but I have seen that it's worth it. I hope I can be as fearless as they are one day.”
Honey took her hand back and rubbed her face. “Why are you two so hell bent on me staying knocked up? Like there’s something real heavy you're not telling me.”
“We're just like, REALLY invested in Leon’s happiness!” the woman exclaimed.
“Or we could just tell her? I saved Dave that way.”
Honey narrowed her eyes, “Convincing.”
“You and Leon and this baby are going to literally save the world?”
“Alright,” Leon's doppelganger decided to take a turn. “Someone took me away from our mom when I was just a baby. I was raised pretty abusively. But I found my parents, OUR parents,” he gestured at his sister. “They just.. welcomed me in, AND my other adopted siblings.”
“You are so, so much like her. You and Leon are like BOTH of our parents. Really we Kostases.. Kosti? We leap without looking. If we fly, we fly. So I know what Leon's decision is. You said it yourself, he's worth being with in every life you live. Isn't that your answer?”
Honey sighed again and stood up. She looked back and forth between the man and woman claiming to have her best interest at heart. The siblings with her eyes and Leon’s. “I can't just rush into this.”
“Says the woman who fell in love on the set of a porno film.”
Honey ignored him. Ignored how he knew that. She put her hand on her stomach tenderly. “I have to say, if we have this kid, I'm not sure why, but I hope it.. she's like you. What's your name?”
“Selina. After the moon.”
Honey smiled in a knowing way. “Stick around, I'm sure Leon would love to see you.”
“We can't, but you'll understand all of this one day.”
“I'll see you again?”
“I promise.”
Then Honey and the cousins parted ways. She and Leon had a lot to discuss.

"Phenomenal cosmic powers! Itty bitty living space...
No matter what anybody says, you'll always be a prince to me.
I'm history! No I'm mythology! Oh I don't care what I am I'm free!" (Genie, Aladdin 1993)
It's that time of year again, probably the hardest time of the year for me to make art. But it's still a day where I feel like I have to do something because of the impact that Robin Williams left on me from the age of way too young for me to possibly remember. And I figured what way to better honor the legend than to talk about one of his most popular characters and my favorite Disney side character. Hands down The Genie is numero uno in my mind and in my heart. While Ray and Mushu come super close they'll never top him. It just won't happen because so much of my childhood was spent watching and rewatching this movie just to see his scenes.
Now if you don't know why today is dubbed "Genie Day" for me, I'll explain it to you. But for that we're going to have to time travel a little bit back to seven years ago today, August 11th 2014. I was working as a counselor in training for my childhood summer camp. I've told this story before so I'll shorten it up a little bit. That week after he passed away was one of the hardest of my 21 years of life thus far. I slipped pretty far. I couldn't comprehend how the man that was responsible for so many hours of uproarious laughter of a good chunk of the population was gone. For somebody that grew up sickly Aladdin was one of those movies that I would watch over and over because it always brought the laughs. The Genie was so much larger than life and so much of Robin's energy but also his heart went into creating the character. I suffer from pretty major stage fright but I still made it my goal by the end of that week that I would preform Friend Like Me to honor my hero. Thinking back on it probably sucked hard but I had fun with it and to me that's a big part of what the Genie is it's fun.
When you watch the behind the scenes of this movie and the uncut animation that wasn't ever finished that Erik Goldberg was able to make for the movie that we've seen (there is over thirty hours of footage that he animated that was never put into the film). Actually fun fact! My grandma went to high school with Eric Goldberg. They weren't super close or anything but I love to tell people that because he's been one of my top favorite animators since I was a kid. Genie was only the first time that he worked off of Robin Williams as a few years later he would do Mrs Doubtfire's opening cartoon.
Growing up I was often watching Robin Williams films. The older I got the more that I found his "adult" films and loved them even more than his children stuff. I fell in love with his varying roles that he could pull out of his hat. It felt like watching a movie magician that could do all of these crazy things with just the tip of a hat. He was so multilayered both as a human being and as an actor. I've never seen anyone be as sidesplittingly funny but at the same time have so much heart and clear passion in every little nuance for the character. He made my childhood/teenage-hood a better and brighter place full of laughter and light. His films never shied away from hitting you with the sad things either. They were always this perfect balance of happy and sad that kept me coming back. So many of my favorite sad movies he's at the forefront of them. Movies like The Fisher King, Good Morning Vietnam, Dead Poets Society, and those are just in my top six favorites.
I've come to loathe this day every year. Every year this is the day that I dread the most. I hate that I never got to actually thank him for all the years that he was there for me for emotional support. He wouldn't have to do anything funny, zany, or wacky. I just wanted to tell him my story so desperately. Most of my friends have actors that they love to see but I have "my boys". They are as followed; Ralph Finnes, Edward Norton, Robert Downey Jr, Gary Oldman, and of course at the tippy top of that list is none other than the man himself Robin Williams. It's hard for me to put into words why I loved his films so much as a kid and still do today. But the only way that I can explain it is that you have those celebrities that just leave this profound impact on you. For me that's my relationship with Robin's film persona. Whether it be happy or sad I'll always love watching him act. Celebrating his life by creating art is one of my favorite things to do during the month of August. I hope that he's up there somewhere and he's happier than he was here.

Stephen King's Graveyard Shift (1990)
Blessings upon you congregants from your dear Reverend my beloved Cult of Cult! Gather round a receive today's message as hear a word from the writings of Saint Stephen! I have a bit of inside baseball to share with you today, and that is that I love the fact that Hulu curates a list from your watchlist that lets you know what films have been sitting queued up unattended. You know those movies that you kind a want to see and you keep saying "i'll get around to that" right before you binge King of the Hill for the 90th time? Well Graveyard Shift was one of those movies for me, in fact, I frequently decide what films to cover based on what is about to disappear. In many cases the films I sit through are not very engaging or surprising. I think to myself, yeah, this is about what I thought it would be, no wonder I chose not to engage. Graveyard Shift, however, was actually quite a wonderful surprise.
Sermon
Graveyard Shift begins at the overnight shift of a rat infested textile mill. The employee working the machinery has been so severely pushed to the brink by engaging with the little invaders that he begins to toy with them and sets a very tragic precedent for the film by gleefully tossing living rats into the cotton picker. We get some shots of a blood and viscera mixed into the cotton before this son of a bitch is offed by an off screen force. I'm not gonna hold out on spoilers here for you folks, the movies 30 years old and it's a giant mutant bat.
Our hero Hall, a drifter with a tragic past, blows into town and is quickly hired by Warwick, the womanizing and half insane owner of the textile mill. Warwick has an awful habit of giving easy work to the women in his mill who provide him with sexual favors, while punishing those who don't with the most filthy and strenuous work he can find. This abuse also extends to any of his male employees who he sees as competition for their attention. This is why when Hall begins a relationship with Jane, an independent type who has repeatedly told Warwick to back off, they are soon destined to land on the sub basement cleaning project that brings them into contact with our nocturnal beast.
As this plot unfolds Warwick and Hall become increasingly at odds. Hall at this point has been substantially assigned to contend with the hordes of rats in the basement, playing games and almost training them in a way to leave him be. Eventually the time comes for the much feared cleaning of the basement levels of the mill, and our three main characters as well as a slew of murder lambs descend to their doom.
These poor blue collar folk are accosted by rats, floods, collapsing architecture, the Mutant Bat Mama and Warwick himself descends into madness, killing Jane, before he himself is eventually caught in the leathery wings of the blood thirsty beast. This leaves Hall alone to fight the monster. The battle for survival between Hall and the Bat works its way back up to the Mill where Hall uses the cotton picker and ingest the creature in a bloody cottony mess the likes of which I haven't seen since a 13 year old Chainsaw tried to teach himself to shave.
The Benediction
Best Character: Who's the Boss?
Sometimes with certain characters there's a certain intangible something or other that draws a viewer to them. In the case of Warwick it must have been the pure charisma of actor Stephen Macht. He was definitely not the best actor in this film, it was very clearly a phoned in role with some questionable choices, like I don't get what that accent was about. The character was a sleazy heel and I was absolutely satisfied when he was killed. He provided a very realistic menace despite the utter cornball portrayal. This is truly what they mean when they talk about characters you love to hate. Fuck You Warwick, you magnificent bastard. I'm glad you were eaten by that giant bat.
Best Actor: Chucky's Cheesin' It!
Brad Dourif is perhaps the only actor in this movie who was memorable. It's always great to see Dourif outside of the chucky role. He's always bringing his best stuff and although I didn't mention him in this review, Dourif plays an absolutely demented Vietnam Vet/ Exterminator with his little rat catching dog Moxie in this movie. Whenever I think about Graveyard Shift I think about Warwick, Brad Dourif, and the Bat!
Best Kill: Nana nana nana nana BatMess!
Unfortunately for Graveyard Shift most of the deaths that occur are incredibly tame. It's a creature feature that mostly plays like a Who Dunnit. Its honestly the weakest feature of the film. In fact I'm going to call it right here. (Worst Feature: Genre Confusion). In a film that fundamentally does little more than 'Giant Bat Eats Mill Workers in Mild Criticism of Capitalist Exploitation', I'd like to see some people getting absolutely wrecked by this bat. That doesn't really happen. Most of the kills are off screen, or obscured by big leathery wings. The bat looks pretty damn cool, and when it is chewed up by the Cotton Picker it's about the most gore and effects you get in the film. It's a shame that it is the monsters undoing rather than the monsters doing that really shows off the effects. C'est La Vie!
Worst Kill: Rats Off to You!
In the opening scene that fucker is throwing rats into the cotton picker just for being rats. I know there's a ton of them, but it's such a mean spirited bull shit way of eliminating rats. Rat Terrorism is bullshit and I'm against it. Fuck you you weird rat killing guy, Let Brad Dourif do his thing and stop picking the rats up by their tales you asshole.
Summary
Graveyard Shift was a disappointment to Stephen King, who called it just another "quick exploitation picture" and you know what, that's all it had to be to make me happy. Graveyard shift has a cool looking bat creature, that is unfortunately underused. A quick and engaging little story that doesn't try too hard to be too deep, and I know that was probably a huge temptation with the themes of the story. The characters that are notable are over the top and interesting, and those that aren't are the perfect murder lambs, they are just unique enough to differentiate and keep the action moving. It's by far not one of the greatest films you'll ever see. It's a creature feature that doesn't do enough to feature it's creature. It's effects are good when they are shown, and I'm so happy it was made in an era where we didn't get bombarded with weightless grey blobs of CGI rats everywhere. It's exactly what the doctor ordered for a low stakes night in with some pop corn and a coke. Don't let the haters stop you, definitely give Graveyard Shift a shot.
