Never Have I Ever Kissed A Girl || Camren One Shot
It was stunningly cold outside for a summer night in July. I was already shivering just after the sun set. I still didn’t know why on earth I agreed to this. Dinah, my best friend, invited me over to a little house party of hers with all our old friends from High School. I hadn’t seen any of them since I graduated last year, except for Dinah of course, so I was more than sure this would turn extremely awkward sooner rather than later.
From the distance I already heard the bass of the music blasting through the street and short after my best friend’s house came into sight. I was just about to turn around and go back home and would’ve told my Polynesian friend I got sick, but right in that moment that said best friend spotted my small figure and cried out my name in excitement, ”Mila! You made it! I almost thought you’d bail on me, Walz.”
When I finally reached her I only got a few awkward and quiet sounds out of my mouth. “Yeah…. here I am” I added a slight wave to my greeting to increase the awkwardness even more. Dinah being her fast forward self and being a little tipsy as well, as I figured from her slight slurring, looked at me with a raised eyebrow and pulled me into a bone-crushing hug right after.
“You can go inside already and grab yourself a drink, I’ll come soon as well.” Dinah told me after she had let me go out of her arms. Obliging her wish I trotted into her house and made my way into the kitchen where I guessed the drinks would be. My fear of being left alone to myself with no one I really knew had come true, so I figured I’d just get some alcohol into my blood system in hope of loosening up a little.
As my legs carried my body into the kitchen I had been in so many times before I kept my gaze down, trying to avoid making any eye contact with already intoxicated people that rushed past me. I hated being so unbelievably shy and insecure, but I just couldn’t help myself since this was a character trait I had to live with.
Whilst I didn’t pay much attention to where I was going with me head kept down, I slightly bumped into a person ahead of me. Being my uncoordinated self, I tripped over, instantly lost my balance and fell to the floor with a loud thud, becoming the centre of attention.
The soft hands of the person I ran into helped me up since they weren’t nearly as clumsy as me and didn’t land on the floor like I did. As I finally regained my balance again and pushed the hair out of my face which blocked my sight I petrified in the moment I laid my eyes on her.
“Oh my God, are you okay, Camz?” her sweet voice echoed through the room leaving me startled. Staring right into her piercing, emerald eyes instantly threw me back to the time I would’ve done anything for this precious girl in front of me. The time when everything my mind revolved about was her and all my eyes yearned for was her gorgeous figure. I felt my heartbeat raise and my breathing quicken forcing me to inhale her intoxicatingly lovely scent I had enjoyed so many times she walked past me when we were still in High School.
When she removed her hand, she used to steady me with, from my arm I got ripped out of my thoughts and back into reality. The girl looked at me questioningly with her eyebrows raised so high they almost reached her hairline. In that moment I realized I had been staring at her for quite some time without saying or doing anything. In addition to that my jaw had unwillingly dropped as well and probably let me look like some dumbfounded weirdo.
“Yeah, I’m-… I’m fine, thanks” I finally brought out stuttering after what felt like hours. Right there in front of me stood Lauren Jauregui in all her glory. The most popular girl back then in High School and the girl I was madly in love with for years. I never had the balls to tell her that, though. Not that it would’ve made any difference since she made it very clear that she was straight when we played Truth or Dare at a party once and she got asked if she’d be open for a relationship with a girl which she answered with a simple “No” a split moment after the question filled the room, destroying all my hopes. Nevertheless, would it be a lie to say I didn’t have any feelings for her anymore, even if they were only sexual.
“Do you want something to drink? You kind of look like you could use one.” Lauren offered with a chuckle as she put a hair strand of mine back into its right place and brushed some dirt off my shoulder.
Everything my body functioned to in that moment was a simple nod, earning another chuckle out of the beautiful girl looking at me. My eyes automatically followed her as she turned around and poured some sort of booze into two typical red plastic cups.
I hadn’t moved an inch when she came back with the cups in her hands, handing me one of them whilst she casually sipped from the other one herself. I surprisingly managed to get out a faint “Thanks” while my eyes immediately darted to the point where her delicious looking lips met the plastic cup leaving me open-mouthed again. This time I realized sooner than before that I was staring and started drinking from my own cup to distract myself. God, this girl was so mesmerizing, how was I supposed to survive this night?
I felt the green-eyed girl’s gaze on me making me extremely nervous. “You look good.” she suddenly complimented me, probably trying to start some sort of small talk to get out of this uncomfortable silence between us. I was still totally stunned by the girl in front of me and was sure that I wouldn’t get a single word out of my mouth. So, I just decided to continue drinking from my cup until some angel sent by God saved me from this awkward situation.
Right when I drank up the last bit of booze left in my cup, practically chugging all of it, I got interrupted by a loud voice. “Walz, come over here! We’re playing ‘Never Have I Ever’!” Dinah yelled at us from the living room. And I couldn’t have been quicker to leave that kitchen and therefore Lauren behind and swiftly sat myself down on the floor right next to Dinah, my sweet little angel.
“Oh, I want to know all the dirty stuff you’ve been up to this last year, Dinah, I’m in!” a voice said form behind me which I recognized as Normani who had been in the same class as Dinah and I. Short after the beautiful black-skinned girl sat herself down next to me giving me a side hug as greeting. Followed by the sweet little Ally to complete our group of the four girls from our old class.
“Hey guys! It’s so nice to see you again.” Ally said excitedly as always with her sweet little voice. I gave her a little smile as she took a seat on the huge red rug we all sat on as well. The three girls instantly engaged into some energetic chatter as I spaced out again thinking about the earlier events. I still couldn’t get this damn girl out of my head after all these years. I just hoped I wouldn’t have to talk to her again this night since she practically left me speechless with just a blink of her emerald green eyes.
My train of thought got interrupted by this old familiar voice. “Hey guys, would you mind if I joined you?” Lauren asked timidly as she had never been a real part of our group of girls even though she probably came really close to being one. Sure as hell something like that was going to happen. Sometimes I felt like life hated me.
“Sure thing, Lauser.” Dinah was the first to reply and scooted over to me to make some room for Lauren in the circle we were sitting in. After the girl I tried to avoid made herself comfortable on the soft rug all five of us sat on now, I met her addictive eyes. She was looking right back at me and I froze for a second, losing myself completely in the pool of that warm green colour. Her pupils were slightly dilated, which I blamed on the alcohol she consumed, making her eyes look even more incredible than they already were.
The invisible electricity I felt between us after we’d been looking into each other’s eyes for what felt like hours got immediately cut when Dinah handed me a new cup of booze and spoke into the room. “Let’s start, girls!” I was able to tear my gaze away from Lauren, but I couldn’t quite set my mind to why she was as captivated as I was. Perhaps I just had something on my face.
“Can we also say, ‘I have…’ and everyone who hasn’t done that drinks?” Normani asked before someone was able to start.
“Yeah, sure, why not.” Dinah replied casually with a shrug followed by a slight sip of her red cup. “I’ll start with a basic one.” Dinah continued as she eyed me with a smirk. “I have kissed a girl.” The words rolled off Dinah’s lips and instantly made something inside of me boil.
“I hate you so much.” I addressed Dinah as I took a long sip from my cup giving Dinah an annoyed look which only made her burst out into laughter. Ally and Normani joined her with a few chuckles knowing very well why I was so annoyed with Dinah. As I met Lauren’s confused gaze I realized that I had been so triggered by that remark of Dinah I hadn’t even payed attention to who took a sip from their cup. The girl looking at me questioningly was the only one in our group right now who didn’t know I was gay. So, I decided to fill her in. “I am the only one here who actually likes girls and yet I haven’t kissed a girl. That’s why I was kind of mad” I brought out for the first time this night a coherent sentence whilst looking into this green pool that formed her eyes. Apparently, the alcohol did loosen me up a little bit.
Something changed in her eyes as those words slipped off my tongue and her pupils dilated a little bit. She was still looking a bit confused but there was something else in her eyes as well, but I couldn’t quite decipher what it was with my intoxicated state. “I didn’t know you were into girls. Why did you never tell me?” Lauren finally spoke up and I almost felt like there was a slight hint of hurt in her fragile voice.
“It never really came up.” I shrugged looking away from her eyes trying my best to avoid that topic with Lauren next to me. Even though I knew that wasn’t a satisfying response considering that I actually had been quite close to Lauren back in High School.
“Maybe you’ll find some volunteers tonight, Mila.” Normani threw in with a suggestive raise of her eyebrows and a wink guided at me. I guessed that she was already pretty tipsy saying something like that and knowing too well all about my history with Lauren.
I just rolled my eyes dramatically as a reply to Normani’s suggestion and tried to change the topic by continuing with the game. “Never have I ever been in love with a boy.” I said quickly before anyone else was able to add something to the previous topic. As expected I got met with a few groans and an “Mila, you’re so lame” by Dinah after everyone took their sip except for me, of course.
“You know, Mila,” Normani turned to me after she took a huge sip from her red cup “only ‘cause you’re gay, doesn’t mean you can get all of us drunk so easily without consequences and that was seriously just plainly lame” she started to slur already, and I had a difficult time understanding every word she said. “Never have I ever given someone a lap dance” Normani finally finished.
“Guys!” Ally shouted when she saw Lauren and Dinah drinking from their booze “Y’all need some Jesus.”
When Dinah finished chugging her cup she pointed her hand with the cup still in it right at Normani and started to slur some almost incomprehensible words. “You my girl,” she looked her deep in the eyes, “have wasted so much talent over the past few years.” She concluded with a serious and unashamed voice.
I only payed half of my attention to the girls’ interaction whilst my eyes occasionally darted to the green-eyed girl sitting next to me, which made me notice how her head was ducked down all the time and it even looked like she had a faint tint of red on her face in contrast to her ashen skin tone. A few seconds later when my head turned to the older girl again I wasn’t met with a ducked down head but instead with her inhumanly eyes staring straight into mine. Right when my eyes met hers the blush on her cheeks got unmistakable. I crooked an eyebrow and added a little smirk to it, communicating with her inaudibly. A tiny chuckle escaped her mouth short after and the slight hint of embarrassment suddenly turned into sexiness when she looked at me with her infamous intimidating and yet daring look. The smirk left my face and plastered itself on the face of Lauren when she saw my jaw dropping slightly and how I eyed her with wide eyes. The electricity I felt earlier this night between us built itself up again and we looked into each other’s eyes like we were the only ones in this teenager crowded room.
For the first time this night I actually took a look at her body and noticed just yet what sort of clothes she actually wore. She was wearing a black long-sleeved crop top which exposed her beautifully toned stomach. I almost couldn’t tear my eyes away from those well pronounced abs, but my gaze went lower to be met with slightly ripped white shorts showing off her legs perfectly. As I was finally able to force my eyes back up, I got met with an even bigger smirk on her face followed by a quick checking me out. We were looking right into each other’s eyes for the umpteenth time that night and I dared to think there was a glint in her eyes radiating pure lust.
This just couldn’t have been true. I must’ve drunken more than I actually thought I did. I turned my head away from her and took in my surroundings again. Ally looked horrified listening to the still ongoing conversation of Dinah and Normani about lap dances. Either time just passed by really slowly whilst I got lost in those familiar green eyes or those two had been arguing for several minutes straight.
“Can we continue?” I interrupted them in order to restrain myself from spacing out again and losing myself all over again in the surreal girl.
“Yes, please!” Ally replied urgently trying to stop this conversation as fast as she could. “I have gone to church to a specific time in an attempt to meet someone.” The shortest girl continued with the game and all eyes were immediately darted to her in pure shock.
“Allysus, what happened to you?!” Dinah gasped out loudly before all of us took a sip from our drinks. “Was it at least worth it?” the tallest girl kept going with a curious look on her face behind the drunk glaze that formed itself over her eyes.
“None of your business.” The Hispanic girl responded quickly with a nonchalant shrug wanting to tease Dinah. “I believe Lauren is next.” She added making sure to quickly change the topic once again.
“Uhm, okay, I guess.” Lauren’s voice filled the room after she had been so quiet this entire time. “Never have I ever sexted.” She casually said causing me to unwillingly widen my eyes knowing that I had to take a sip of the drink. Followed by Normani and Dinah.
“That is almost as disappointing as Mani never having given someone a lap dance.” Dinah commented, followed by a desperate voice from the smallest figure of our little group. “What have I gotten myself into, oh dear God?”
Right in that moment my eyes got drawn back to the black-haired girl like a magnet. She was looking at me with that lust filled smirk of hers again and her eyes exuded nothing but attraction whilst she quirked an eyebrow at me. I clearly must’ve been drunk already. This just couldn’t be real, could it? This entire electricity that built itself up over and over again between us couldn’t be one sided, could it? It was so surreal in that moment and the fact that looking into her eyes made me space out causing me to feel like I was on an entire different planet didn’t quite contribute to believing this situation was real.
“Never have I ever used a lame pickup-line on someone.” Dinah ripped me out of my thoughts and back into reality again by continuing with the game I totally forgot about for a split second. I diverted my gaze to my best friend to resist the temptation sitting right next to her. To my surprise Dinah looked straight back at me with her eyebrows raised questioningly.
“What? Have I got something on my face?” I asked confused as to why she eyed me with this strange look on her face. I apparently knew all along this entire time, I did have something on my face.
However, my assumption got denied when Dinah continued to speak. “Don’t you wanna drink?” my best friend questioned me sort of provocatively. I was still not catching up with what the girl on my left was referring to and maintained my confused gaze. “Don’t you remember that one time we were at this party and you tried that really dumb pickup-line on that girl with that huge ass? What was it again? Is your ass from space?” Dinah finally mad me realize what she was talking about, making me gasp out loud in realization.
“Are your pants from Mars? Cause your butt is out of this world.” I corrected her. “But what the fuck, though, that pickup-line is awesome.” I objected with her opinion on that obviously great line.
“Oh my God, that’s one of my favourite pickup-lines!” Lauren threw in joining the argument between us. “And yes, I have to agree with Camz, it isn’t lame at all.” Camz, oh, how I missed that word slipping off her tongue.
“I am the host, I make the rules, now drink my little, innocent child.” Dinah quickly stated out before I was able to object and in addition to that the stronger girl lightly pushed my cup of alcohol to my mouth making me take a sip in obedience. “Yeah, just like that, good girl.”
“Just so you know” I spoke up drunkenly after I finished my gulp, “I am older than you and not your child!” Dinah just shrugged with a little giggle attached to it. Right in that moment my eyes got drawn back to the delicate girl sitting next to my best friend and I got met with a sweet smile of her precious lips which I instantly reciprocated.
I got whipped out of my little trance again by a slap on my thigh followed by a loud voice. “Your turn, Mila!” Dinah practically screamed into my ear making me jump slightly. All eyes were darted on me now expecting some sort of sentence from me. I quickly looked down on the ground before I would lose myself in that emerald pool again and thought of something that wasn’t as lame as my prior phrase.
After I spent some seconds contemplating what I was about to say I raised my head again and looked past those expectant pairs of eyes at first. “I have been in love with a girl from this group.” I finally brought out after this uncomfortable silence had filled the room for quite some time. When I looked around those expectant looks turned into wide eyes, raised eyebrows and opened mouths. My eyes stopped at some particular pair of eyes, looking right back at the ones that were only fixated on me. I followed her every move from taking a sip from her cup to putting the booze back on the ground, but in not a single second did our eyes lose contact. Her eyes were practically screaming at me to elaborate what I just said but we both knew that this wasn’t the right time so we just continued with that game of ours.
“Never have I ever stared at a girl’s butt in jeans.” Normani continued the game and was able to destroy that uneasy feeling that built itself up again.

When the Night Comes - 15
Chapter 15: Lucy
Hell – Year Unknown
“My name is Lucy Vives and I am a demon slayer,” The brown-haired girl said to herself. “I come from a family of demon slayers. From birth, I was trained to hunt and fight. I found out that my family controlled an army of demons to kill other demon slayer families to be the best using the Red Ruby. I left the Overworld in order to stop them and to make a better world for the love of my life.”
Lucy rocked back and forth with her knees in her arms on the cold, wet floor of god-knows-what. She repeated the same sentences over and over again in hopes of remembering her identity. She was afraid. She didn’t want to lose herself. She didn’t want to forget the beautiful face of her love. She didn’t want to become another demon in Hell. That was her biggest nightmare, to become the monster that she was trained to hunt down.
“My name is Lucy Vives and I am a demon slayer,” Lucy repeated again. “I come from a family of demon slayers. From birth, I was trained to hunt and fight. I found out that my family controlled an army of demons to kill other demon slayer families to be the best. I left the Overworld in order to stop them.”
Piece by piece, Lucy’s memory crumbled and she had no way of holding on. Memories continued to fade out of her control. She slowly became nobody, leaving behind an empty vessel that could be easily influenced by the harsh environment that is Hell. They say that when someone comes out of Hell, they never truly come back the same as when they went in. Lucy would now become the victim of that.
“My name is Lucy Vives and I am a demon slayer,” Lucy repeated for the millionth time. “I come from a family of demon slayers. From birth, I was trained to hunt and fight.”
Lucy fought hard to remember more details but it was no use as darkness filled her mind. She kept trying and trying to remember but again, she came up with nothing. Out of frustration she began to cry. Tears filled her eyes and they fell from her face and down to her hands. She knew at that moment that it was time to say goodbye to herself.
“My name is Lucy Vives,” Lucy said to herself. “And I don’t know who I am anymore.”

Year 2016 – Miami – The Safe Zone
“Where could she have gone?” Camila asked Lauren who was pacing back and forth in the room.
“I don’t know,” Lauren quickly responded, careful not to make eye with the slayer. “She’s not the same Lucy I knew before. She’s… broken.”
“Lauren,” Camila approached the emerald-eyed girl and placed a hand on her shoulder. “I know this is hard for you, but I need you to help me here. You knew her best out of all of us. You must have some sort of idea about where she could have gone.”
“The moment that she stepped out of that black hole, I already knew she was gone,” Lauren said as she buried her face in her hands, massaging her temples. “The way she looked at me, it was different. I was a stranger to her. Act or not, that was not Lucy… I don’t know that girl. All I know is, she’s working against us. We just need to find whoever put her up to it.”
Camila stood up and wrapped her arms around the emerald-eyed girl and said, “We’ll find them. We’ll find her too. And maybe we can get her memories back once we find that book. We’re going to stop searching for Cliff and we’re going to start searching for her. She’ll probably have more information on whatever’s going on than whatever Cliff knows. It’s going to be okay, Lauren.”
Lauren tried to be strong in front of the slayer but ultimately, she broke down. She let down her defenses and wrapped her arms around the petite brunette, not wanting to let her go. All the memories, once again, rushed back into her head, haunting her with the good memories threatening to shatter her undead heart. Lauren knew that nothing was ever going to be the same. No matter how much she wanted things to return back to normal, it was never going to happen. Too many things have happened.
Suddenly, a knock on the door was heard. The two girls separated from their embrace as Camila said, “Come in.”
Dinah opened the door and only entered her head into the room, “Lestat’s awake. Do you want to question him now? I understand if you want some more time. I could always just knock him out again.”
Camila didn’t say a word. Instead she waited for Lauren to decide. Camila made Lauren her priority and she wanted to make sure she was okay. She didn’t want to rush her into situations she didn’t want to be in even if the clock was running out. Camila looked Lauren and waited for Lauren’s response. Lauren looked back and said, “Let’s question the son of a bitch.”
*
“Can I just get a sip, please?” Lestat whined at Normani and Ally who watched him closely.
Lestat was tied to a chair in the middle of a dirty old room in the Safe Zone. The other residents told Camila and the girls that the room was often used for interrogations such as what was about to happen with Lestat. The room was padded, preventing the captives to hurt themselves. The room was also soundproof to prevent any person overhearing important information. It was perfect for the girls’ current situation.
“I know you can hear me,” Lestat whined again as Normani and Ally continued to ignore the annoying vampire. “You can’t ignore me forever, you know.”
The door of the room opened, a loud creaking noise filled the room. Lauren and Camila stepped through the doorway, signalling for Normani and Ally to exit the room. Lestat’s mouth curled to a smile as he had new people to annoy.
“To what do I owe the pleasure of your company, Lauren?” Lestat said, accompanied with an annoying chuckle. “You need my help, don’t you?”
Lauren took her time to answer Lestat, trying to calm herself down before replying. There was no use for violence at the moment. She needed to clear her mind, no matter how much she wanted to cut the vampire up into a million pieces.
“You’re fucking annoying,” Lauren said as she approached Lestat. In her hand, she held a stake. “Do you know how hard it is for me to stop myself from plunging this in your heart?”
“Ooooh, you’re scary…” Lestat joked, his mouth curling into another smile. “Come on, Lauren. What do you need from me? Why are you here? The book? Is that what you need? I can get you the book. I know who has it.”
“Who has it then?” Lauren asked, genuinely curious.
Camila watched as the two vampires spat words out at each other. She waited for some sort of progression in their conversation before making her move. It wasn’t until Lestat moved forward in his seat that Camila kicked him back towards the back of the chair, moving him back a few inches. She doesn’t want Lestat to try anything that could potentially hurt Lauren.
“Don’t fucking move unless we tell you to.” Camila said seriously.
“You’ve got big balls, don’t you sweetheart?” Lestat, once again, chuckled as he spoke his words. “Don’t worry, I was just trying to whisper a little secret into Lauren’s ear here.”
“Whatever you say to her, you say to me too. That’s how it works here.” Camila said, not removing her foot off of Lestat’s chest.
“Alright,” Lestat said, the smirk wiped off of his face. “God, you two are too serious. What do you want to know?”
“What did you want with Lucy?” Lauren asked as she tried hard to supress tears.
“I was going to make her into my little slave,” Lestat answered honestly. “But the Dark Army had something bigger planned for her.”
Hell – Year Unknown
“Who are you?” A deep voice asked in the darkness. “What is your purpose here?”
Lucy was sat in a large wooden chair lined with red fabric. She sat before a figure which she couldn’t see. She wasn’t afraid. She didn’t feel anything. She had become desensitized by the whole concept of Hell. She was too used to it now. It had become her home. With no memories to remind her of what good is, she was easily swayed into the dark side. Lucy had become a part of the Dark Army.
“My name is Lucy,” She answered the voice in the dark. “My purpose here is to serve you, Master.”
“Good,” The deep voice in the darkness said happily. “You are correct. You must obey me.”
“I must obey you,” Lucy said in a robotic manner. “I live to serve.”
“You will be a great addition to my army,” The deep voice snuck out of the darkness once more. “You will help me take revenge on those Saviours. No one takes advantage of the Dark Army and walks away without paying.”
“Yes, Master.” Lucy bowed her head.
“First, you will go back to the Overworld and you will find me that book,” The deep voice commanded. “After, you and I can locate the Red Ruby and we will do to those Saviours what they did to us. They must learn what it is like to be a slave.”
“Yes, Master.” Lucy looked up, revealing black orbs for eyes.
“Go, my little puppet.” The face behind the deep voice peeked out of the darkness, revealing a red skinned demon with large horns on top of his head.
Year 2016 – Miami – The Safe Zone
“How do you know that Lucy is part of the Dark Army?” Camila asked Lestat who was looking bad after Lauren had punched him a couple of times.
“Love, I’m part of the Dark Army.” Lestat laughed as sweat rolled down his face.
“How do we know you’re not lying?” Lauren asked as she continued to hold the stake in her hand. “How do we know that you’re not just saying this to save your ass?”
“Lauren, you know me,” Lestat said as he spat out a little bit of blood just a little ways away from Lauren’s shoes. “Have I ever lied to you?”
“Countless times actually,” Lauren pointed out. “So how would we know you’re not lying right now.”
“Check my left arm, she should know.” Lestat commanded Camila as he looked straight at Lauren.
Camila did as she was told and rolled up the white sleeve on Lestat’s left arm. With the sleeve out of the way, the two girls were able to see the tattoo on Lestat’s arm. The tattoo was the symbol of Asmodeus, the demon thought of as the God of Sin.
Lauren was taken aback at the sight of the demonic symbol and didn’t think that Lestat would ever have it in him to be a part of the Dark Army.
“There is one thing that doesn’t make sense,” Lauren pointed out. “What doesn’t make sense to me is the fact that the Dark Army stole the book from you. If you really were a part of them, then wouldn’t you have just handed them the book? Why did it take them so long to retrieve it from you? Unless… you are a double agent working for both sides, aren’t you? You were always the type of vampire to be on the winning side. No loyalty.”
“Good observation,” Lestat chuckled. “That’s how you survive, Lauren. You have to be flexible when it comes to loyalty. For me, what’s always worked best is who can offer me the best deal. This time around, no one was able to offer me anything good. So I thought, why not let the Saviours and the Dark Army get rid of each other?”
“And how did that work out for you?” Lauren asked, a slight grin displayed on her face.
“Well, as you can see it didn’t go too great for me,” Lestat shook his head. “It was all because of your crew here. If you hadn’t picked Lucy up at the Bronze, everything would be okay right now. She would have never known about the book.”
“That doesn’t make any sense,” Lauren pointed out. “You were going to keep her at your house. She would have found out one way or another.”
“Not if I killed her first,” Lestat looked dead straight into Lauren’s eyes. “I was going to kill her once I got my hands on her. Now you just made things worse for everyone. Without that book, the Dark Army would have no way to find the Red Ruby.”
“What does the Red Ruby have to do with this?” Lauren asked, curious as to what Lestat had to say.
“Do you know what the Red Ruby does, Lauren?” Lestat leaned in closer to Lauren’s face.
“I know enough,” Lauren said as she remembered what the stone had done to her. “I just know that it strips you of all humanity. You are no longer restrained by your conscience and you do whatever it takes to satisfy yourself. You become a monster.”
“Yes, there’s that and you know the other option,” Lestat continued. “You can use it to control those around you. I know that you had a taste of the Red Ruby, didn’t you Lauren? Now imagine what the Red Ruby did to you and apply that to a giant army of strong demons. Mindless killing machines wandering around Miami wreaking havoc… imagine that. Those Saviours, the supposed heroes of Miami, controlled the Dark Army to eliminate their competitors. They murdered their kind in order to be the best. They’re the true evil. That’s why your lovely Lucy transferred her memories to your new girlfriend. She knew it was now, the right time, to defeat her own family.”
“How do you know all of this?” Lauren asked, disappointed that she wasn’t able to make the connections herself.
“Like you said, I like to be on the winning side,” Lestat smirked. “There are perks to working for both sides.”
As soon as Camila heard what Lestat had to say, everything from Lucy to the crimes that her family had committed in the past, she couldn’t take it anymore. She ran out of the room and leaned her back on the wall, trying to catch her breath. Her head spun in circles. It felt as if she was about to puke. She finally knew what crimes her mother and father spoke of. It was her family’s fault. She had been fighting for the wrong side all along. She knew it was up to her now to correct all their wrongs.
Lauren ran out of the room after Camila, closing the door behind her to ensure that Lestat doesn’t have an opportunity to escape. She was worried about the petite brunette. She knew it was hard for Camila to hear what her family had done. She approached her carefully and tried to comfort her. She didn’t have to try too hard as Camila threw herself into Lauren’s arms. Lauren welcomed her in her arms and held her tightly. It was at this moment that Lauren swore to do anything for Camila. She wanted to do what was best for the petite brunette, and she knew that she had to finish what Lucy had started in the past. It was her duty.
“I don’t want to do this anymore, Lauren,” Camila sobbed into Lauren’s ear as the petite brunette held the emerald-eyed girl tightly in her arms. “Everything is weighing down on me. This is too much.”
“I know,” Lauren said calmly, hoping Camila would follow suit and calm down. “I know that this is all too much for you right now. It must be hard to hear about all of the things that Lestat just told us but we have to do what’s right. I know that you know that. I also know that I can’t ask you to do something that you don’t want to do. So… if ever you want to pull out of this mission, you just tell me, okay? I will do everything I can to get you out of this safely, no matter what you choose to do. You’re my priority right now. I need to keep you safe.”
Camila pulled away to look into Lauren’s eyes and smiled, still with tears in her eyes, “Thank you so much.”
“You’re welcome,” Lauren replied, smiling. “You should go get some rest. I’ll finish up here and get as much information I can get from this asshole. I’ll come up to meet you afterwards, is that okay?”
Camila nodded and hugged Lauren tightly once more. Deep down she knew that Lauren was only doing this because of Lucy, but she hoped desperately that Lauren would fall for her someday. If not, she would have to cut her out of her life. She couldn’t have someone around her that would only cause her confusion. She would never be sure about her feelings if Lauren was around. Camila vowed, at this moment, that once their mission was done that she would leave Lauren alone for good. She knew that that might be the best choice for both of them.
“Are you going to be okay on your own?” Lauren asked, a concerned look on her face. “Maybe I could ask Dinah or Ally to stay with you for a while.”
“Lauren,” Camila let go of the emerald-eyed girl. “I’ll be okay on my own. Don’t worry. Just go and do what you have to do.”
Lauren let out a deep breath and let go of the petite brunette. She smiled and said, “I should really stop underestimating you. You’re the strongest person I know. You should teach me how you do it sometime.”
Camila nodded and smiled, trying to hide the pain. She didn’t want this mission to be the last time she and Lauren ever saw each other. She didn’t want to say goodbye to the girl with the beautiful green eyes. She didn’t want to say goodbye to the girl that taught her how to love. Lauren was too precious to her. But Lauren was right. Camila was strong. She was strong enough to be the kind of person to say goodbye to the love of her life so that she could continue being the strong woman that she is. She couldn’t let herself be consumed by jealousy or greed. She didn’t want to be tied down to chasing one girl forever, a girl that would never fall in love with her.
“I’ll see you later, okay?” Lauren said as Camila walked away. “I promise we’ll make things right.”

Year 2016 – Location Unknown
Click. Click. Click. Click. Lucy’s dark red stilettos clicked on the concrete floor as she made her way through a dark hallway. She chewed on gum, blowing a bubble now and then to keep her from boredom. She didn’t like how isolated it was at this secret hideaway her Master put her in. She wanted to go back to the girls to cause more confusion. She loved playing games with people. She felt a thrill out of being close to the enemy then coming in for the kill when the time came. Finally, Lucy reached a big metal door at the end of the hall. She knocked as she blew another bubble.
Pop. The bubble bursted in the face of a gnarly looking demon with green skin full of sharp horns made of what looked like its bones. The demon made a face of disgust as Lucy walked in. The demon seemed to not be too fond of humans, especially one that used to be a Saviour.
“Lucy…” The same deep voice Lucy had come to be familiar with over the years. “You’ve returned. You look beautiful as ever.”
“Do I?” Lucy looked down at her body, checking out her outfit. “I killed some businesswoman to get this get-up.”
“Hm…” The deep voice was impressed. “Lucy, you’ve truly outdone yourself. We have retrieved the book from the coordinates you shared with us. Lestat, that traitor, didn’t know what was coming to him. And those demon slayers… as clueless as ever. Once the ritual is done, we’ll have obtained the Red Ruby and those Saviours will bow down to us. And finally, after all these years, we can finally achieve what we’ve been trying to achieve for so long.”
Lucy popped another bubble and said, “Everything is falling into place just like you said, Master. It’s only a matter of time before everything is ours. These petty little humans won’t even know what hit them.”
“Oh, they’ll know!” The deep voice shouted passionately. “I want them to suffer. I want them to feel pain. And you’ve helped me make my way closer to that. I thank you, Lucy.”

Silvermoon Sparkling || Dassica @ the Dickbabs Wedding
summary: jessica’s just there to drink, but then daisy happens featuring: @daisy-quaking-johnson @thecanaryxlance @of-consumeddarkness @sofiastranges @burnitonfirexx trigger warnings: kissing, emotions, and mentions of kilgrave things
Daisy waved at Jessica as she and another girl came over. She nodded at the girl. "Friend of yours, I'm guessing?" She asked.
Jessica: "You're a saint, we get it," she quipped to Damarious. She flashed him a smirk to let him know she was kidding -- mostly. "Adult supervision is highly overrated," she muttered, scanning the tables, looking for one mostly empty. She saw Daisy, of all people, and she headed that way without hesitation. "Daisy, Sofia. Sofia, Daisy. And Damarious," she added, thumbing at the man. "We're getting drunk enough to reveal how Sofia knows a god, wanna join?"
Sofia: Offering a small smile to Daisy, she shook her head, "No we are drinking so that I get drunk enough that I forget my dad knows said god."
Daisy: "Nice to meet you, Sofia." She smiled politely at the girl. "And Damarius." She nodded at him too, noticing how Jessica seemed to speak of him almost as an afterthought. "The only supposed god I've seen today was Loki, so if it's him, I'll drink to that." She nodded. "Who's your dad?" she asked, sipping at her own drink.
Sara: She knew she shouldn't be here, especially as there was a chance she'd run into her sister, and because she was supposed to be in jail, but she couldn't miss this wedding, even breaking out of prison to attend it. Grabbing a drink she walked to one end to keep an eye on everyone, to make sure Dinah didn't see her.
Mari: looked at all the women a little unsure if he should leave Sofia with them. Just because she was old enough to drink didnt mean she should. " yes loki is the Male that Sofia seems to have a crush on" he replied
Jessica: She filled a glass for all of them, minus the saint, and took a long sip. But then she almost choked hearing Damarious' little comment. "Jesus," she muttered, swiping at her lips. "You didn't mention that part," she said, arching a brow at Sofia. "Her dad's the dude over there, " she answered Daisy, pointing at the man.
Daisy: "You have a crush on Loki?" She asked raising a brow. "As someone who went down that road, I really can't say I recommend it." Her eyes followed to where Jessica was pointing and she nearly choked. "Stephen has a daughter??!?! Wow, that's. . . wow. Does Ed know?"
Jessica: She heard the comment behind her, from her drinking buddy. She held up a hand at the table, and turned in her chair. "Mick. Do me a favor and shut the hell up."
Sofia: Coughing a little she shook her head, "That's because that's not what is happening - or what I said." Sitting down she grabbed her drink, "But Ed does know, though because I told him not because Stephen did. Or rather I showed up and 'surprise your boyfriend has a daughter' happened."
Jessica: "You dated a god?" she asked, mouth falling open. "Jesus goddamn christ." She slumped down in her chair, shaking her head slowly. Her eyes slid over towards Sofia. "Why's it not happening?"
Mick: turned to Jessica and saw his buddy "Eh why should I , I want a fucking damn fight Woman. And its kind of dull right now with the chit chat, or shit chat" he said
Jessica: She turned back to Mick, since this shit was way over her head anyway. "You call me 'woman' again, and I'll start a fight. With you," she said, voice holding a note of warning. "Just enjoy the free bar, okay."
Daisy: "No, I dated an Asgardian. They're not really gods as much as they might have that complex about themselves." She rolled her eyes. "How'd he take that news?" Daisy asked with a cock of a brow.
MIck: "Fight me Bitch" he said
Daisy looked over to Mick. "I really wouldn't do that if I were you, bud."
Sofia: Leaning back into her chair, she took a long drink, "Well, he had me help him move a couch for dramatic effect - but he was terrifyingly calm about the entire situation."
Jessica: Normally, she didn't mind Mick. He was a decent drinking pal, didn't judge her for knocking back a bottle or two. But right now, she saw red. "Give me a second," she said to the others at the table. She stood up, grabbed him by the shoulder, and dragged him out of his seat, pulling him to a corner of the room. "Look," she said, glaring at him. "I don't give a shit how you got here, or what the hell you want out of today. But that girl," she said, pointing at Babs and Dick at the head table. "She's important to me. This day is important to her. So you're going to calm the hell down, or I can drag you outside, kick your ass, and leave you in the trash. Your choice."
Daisy couldn't help but let out a light laugh. "Yeah, that sounds about right for Ed. I'd say I feel sorry for Stephen, but eh." She shrugged. She watched as Jessica went after Mick, and she couldn't help the slight smirk that grew on her face.
Sara: The assassin noticed Jessica drag Mick to a corner of the room, feeling the need to intervene, she was still his Captain after all, she walked over to the pair. "Mick, I know this isn't exactly your scene, but either you behave or you leave, that's an order" she usually didn't use that phrase but right now she felt it was necessary.
Sofia: Shaking her head, Sofia looked at Daisy, "I feel the same way, I would feel sorry.... but a sudden addition to the family is generally something you tell your significant other."
Jessica: She furrowed her brows as Sara came over, but shrugged. "He's your goddamn problem now," she said. "Let me know if he gives you any problems." She walked off, making her way over towards where Babs was. "Hey," she said, smiling softly. "You look... incredible. Really." She shrugged, feeling awkward as hell. "I just wanted to tell you that, even though about a thousand people are gonna tell you that."
Mari: " I'm sorry? Your behavior suggested you liked him ans you didnt want your father to know" he shrugged moving to take the bottle of alcohol and pour himself a little bit. " and daisy has already dated him?
Daisy glanced at Sara as she came over. "Haven't seen you in awhile," she pointed out in a tone that very clearly said you've been avoiding me, you little shit. She looked back to Sofia. "Yeah, I kinda wanna know how that conversation turned out. I'll have to talk to Eddie about it." She watched Jessica walk off, deciding not to go after her this time since she looked like she was going to good company. "Yes, I've dated him. He's an alright date, all things considered. Terrible ex though."
Sara looked over at Daisy, she'd been so preoccupied with what Mick was doing she hadn't noticed Daisy. "I didn't think you wanted to see me... considering."
Sofia: "I didn't mean to snap Damarius." She apologized before looking at Daisy, "He was kind to me in a strange moment - but after that he just talked around in circles. I can only imagine what sort of ex he would be."
Daisy: "Considering you stabbed me?" Daisy asked. "If I got mad at everyone who stabbed me, I would have no friends. At least you stabbed me through the front. Most people aren't that courteous." She shrugged and looked back to Sofia, chuckling. "A strange moment?" She asked. "But yeah, I can imagine he'd be like that." She nodded. "A pain in my ass the last time I talked to him, though we've been avoiding each other since then."
Mari: "Is anyone ever a good ex?" he asked really wondered he wasn't even if the Ex part came because his father killed the only women he loved. He sipped his drink shrugging " It's okay Sofia..I didn't mean to anger you Its sometimes best I just don't speak"
Sara winced as Daisy spoke, "yeah, that" the blonde nodded. "Also I've been a little busy, being framed for murder is time consuming" she shrugged.
Daisy: "Some of my exes died, so I guess they could be considered good." She shrugged. She cocked a brow at Sara. "You were what?"
Jessica: After giving her congratulations to Babs, she made her way back to Daisy, Sofia, Sara, and Damarious. Just in time to catch the conversation about exes. "That's why I avoid getting involved in the first place," she said, sitting down, and grabbing her drink. She didn't really do exes, they never got to that point. She turned towards Sara. "Oh, I know all about this one," she said, smirking at Daisy. "I see you got out."
Sara: "Yeah, it was a whole thing, Dinah arrested me, it was on the news I think" the blonde replied with a shrug. "Well, of course I did, I couldn't miss the wedding now could I?"
Sofia: "I moved around too much to have to deal with relationships or exes, one great thing about my life. There was no mess like that." Looking at the woman who had stabbed Daisy, her brows rose, she hadn't met her before - but it seemed like she had broken out of jail. Was anyone here normal? "Damiarus, I'm not mad at you - just frustrated at the situation I put myself in."
Daisy looked between Sara and Jessica. "Your sister arrested you?" Daisy asked. "Poor Dinah." She felt more sympathetic to her than Sara at the moment. "I mean you could, but you'd be a pretty lousy friend if you did."
Mari: He looked between the women finding himself really out of his element before looking down a bit before his name was called " Good, I'd hate to upset someone at Wedding, and for all you know Loki isn't saying anything to your father. If you just briefly met there is nothing for him to even say to him"
Jessica: She didn't know what had happened between Sofia and Damarious, but she felt protective again. "We all put ourselves in shitty situations," she muttered. "It's the human condition." She took a drink, and glanced at Sara and Daisy. "We met in a cell," she said, jerking her thumb at Sara. "I thought you were full of shit until I talked to your sister."
Sara nodded at her question but rolled her eyes at the poor Dinah comment. "She could have chosen to give the case to someone else if she didn't want to arrest me" she commented. "I literally had the best excuse ever to not attend the wedding" she said before turning to Jessica "I didn't even tell you the craziest parts"
Daisy: "Or she could take it to make sure someone didn't mishandle you," she pointed out. "She's only looking out for you. What'd you get arrested for?" she asked Jess.
Jessica: "I don't want to know the craziest parts," she said. She pointedly took a long drink, as if to punctuate the statement. "I've got enough of that myself," she said, sharing a knowing glance with Daisy. "Drunk and disorderly, the usual. Her sister let me go for good behavior," she joked.
Sara rolled her eyes "she shouldn't have been on the case in the first place and she knows it" she said "besides I can take a few cops."
Daisy nodded at Jessica's statement. She related too much. "You can have good behavior?" she asked teasingly. "Yeah, you could, but that would've landed you in more trouble."
Sofia: Finishing her drink, Sofia reached over and grabbed the bottle and poured another hefty glass.
Sara: "I could have just stayed on the Waverider while figuring out who framed me, but no, because of Dinah I had to break out of prison to do that" she might still be a little bitter about Dinah arresting her.
Jessica: She sighed heavily and looked at Sara. "She gives a shit about you. Sue her for caring," she said, thinking of how many times people had said similar things to her about Trish. Which made her need another drink, so she nudged her glass towards Sofia. "You'd be surprised," she quipped to Daisy. "I didn't break the handcuffs, that's pretty good."
Mari: Watched Sofia pour more into her glass before opening his mouth again " How the shoulder? are you healing nicely?"
Sara rolled her eyes again "caring about me is going to get her killed" she couldn't let Dinah get hurt because of her, too many people had already but this was her sister, she didn't know how to deal if she got hurt because of Sara.
Mick: Looked at both chicks and realize he was being a Dick head at a wedding. And he ain't wanting to be thrown in the trash at the moment. And glad that his captain came to the rescue for a minute "Eh fine I'm going to get myself a damn brewsky and just drink away for the night. But if there 's a fight let me know about it as I want to watch" he said as he walked back inside to get something to drink
Daisy nodded in agreement with Jessica. "That must have taken a lot out of you to hold back that much." She joked. She related to what Sara was saying though. She always wanted to keep Coulson safe from her own problems, but she couldn't. "You can't stop her from doing it though. Trust me I've tried."
Sofia: Seeing the glass, Sofia poured Jessica a full glass as well before setting the bottle down and looking at Mari, "It's a lot better, it doesn't look better but it feels better - thanks for helping."
Sara: "No, I can't stop her" the blonde agreed "I can try though, people who care about me always gets hurt."
Mari: Smiled nodding at her before taking another small sip of his drink " Good I'm glad, I'm sure your Father probably took better care of it after we parted I'm sure"
Jessica: "It really did," she agreed, flashing Daisy a small smirk. But the talk of sisters -- of people dying because they cared about you -- it hit a little too close to home. She bit her lip hard, but at least Sofia kept her glass full. "She's right," she murmured, nodding towards Daisy. "You making it harder for her is only going to complicate things. You try actually talking to her?"
Daisy knew that feeling, having been told that death followed her several times in her life. "It just won't work though. They'll always go around you until you start working with them, or at the very least convincing them that you're letting them help even if you aren't." Lies could protect people sometimes, but just telling them not to help didn't work.
Sara scoffed at the idea of talking to Dinah "sure, what do you want me to talk to her about, the time I experimented on people? The first time I killed someone? The first time I tortured someone? Or how about the time I killed a guy over the course of five days, I'm sure she'd love to hear about that" she couldn't talk to Dinah, too much had happened.
Daisy shrugged. "Actually, I think she'd appreciate it if you talked to her about anything."
Sofia: Sipping her drink, Sofia shook her head at Mari's words, "I didn't see him right away, but when I did, he looked worse than I did..."
Sara shook head "I'm not telling my sister about the terrible things I've done, I can't."
Daisy shook her head. "I wasn't saying you should or had to, just that she wouldn't get mad at you for it."
Jessica: She stared at Daisy, trying to figure out if any of what she was saying applied to the two of them. Kilgrave was dangerous, but she couldn't imagine not telling Daisy the truth as much as possible, couldn't imagine leaving her out of it. Hopefully that went both ways. Swallowing down the lump in her throat, she turned to Sara, listened to her speech, the anger so familiar. "So don't talk about the shit you've done," she said simply. "Though in my experience, the past always comes back to bite you. Just talk to her about this. The frame job, the murder, whatever. Let her help you." Peak hypocrite status reached, really.
Mari: "Must run in the family saving people and getting injured in the process?" He asked trying to make Sofia at least smile a bit
Sara: "It's not happening, I won't risk her getting hurt because of me, I've lost too many people already, I won't lose her too."
Daisy glanced over at Jess, noticing her staring, though it was different from last time. "She won't get hurt from you telling her about this. Besides, Dinah's tougher than most people anyways. You're not gonna lose her from this, and I've got her back too. If she goes down, I'm going down with her."
Sofia: "Yeah," Sofia laughed, "a Strange family trait." Shrugging a little, she looked at Mari, "He's good," she murmured, "which is what makes all of this so complicated."
Jessica: "Believe me, I get it," she said to Sara. "But if you don't talk to her, she's gonna get herself killed anyway. At least if you're doing this together, maybe you can watch out for each other." If she'd kept a better eye on Trish, maybe things would've been different. She nodded while Daisy spoke -- until the last few words. "Like hell you are," she muttered, shooting a sharp look at Daisy. "Don't make me babysit you, while you babysit Dinah, while she babysits Sara, because honestly? I'm a shitty babysitter."
Mari: smiled glade he was able to make her laugh before noticing everyone else in their party seemed to busy with other things. " You know I can't help you if you don't tell me what's wrong? "
Daisy: "Exactly." Daisy nodded. "I didn't say I was going to go down," she rolled her eyes. "I was just saying that I would go down before I let anything happen to her. It's hard to kill me is what I'm saying. I know, I've tried, so it'll be hard to do that to her."
Sara: "Seriously, just stay out of it, it's honestly not any of your business" how she chose to handle her relationship with her sister wasn't anyone's business and she just wanted people to mind they're own business and stay out of hers.
Jessica: She met Daisy's eyes, and once again saw more of herself reflected back at her than she was totally comfortable with. She inhaled sharply, opened her mouth to answer, but Sara was faster. Jessica glared at her, rolled her eyes, and tossed back her drink. "Fine," she said. "Do whatever makes you happy. Don't bitch when shit hits the fan, that's all I'm saying." With that, she stood up and walked away. To take a breather, to get something to eat, or more likely another drink -- she wasn't sure what just yet. She just needed a second.
Daisy: "You're my friend, so it kinda is." She pointed out with a role of her eyes. She waited a moment after Jessica left and then followed after her, bringing a flask of whiskey along with her. "Hey," she started quietly, the confident and playful demeanor dropping now that she didn't have to act in front of everyone else. "Sorry for . . . bringing that up. It's not much of an excuse, but making comments like that is one of the ways I try to deal with it all without toppling over in front of everyone."
Jessica: Main Street. Birch Street. Higgins goddamn Drive. She wasn't sure why she bothered, it didn't help anymore. But she forced herself to breathe, rubbed a hand over her eyes. She didn't see Daisy until the other woman was already beside her. Jessica bit her lip, and reached for the flask, shrugging. "It's... fine," she said, not even surprised that Daisy had figured out exactly what set her off. "I get it, I do the same thing, it's just --" She bit her lip, eyes not quite meeting Daisy's. "It's different. Hearing it from you."
Daisy let the flask fall into Jessica's hand, knowing she needed it a lot more than herself right now, especially since Daisy was used to not drinking by now. She might've commented on the it's fine remark. It was very rarely actually fine, it seemed, especially with them, but she knew well enough how those kinds of remarks were just automatic once you grew tired of people constantly asking you if something was okay. "To be honest, it's hard for me to get used to a lot of this too. People don't usually understand things completely as much as I want them to, and it's so . . ." she decided to use Jessica's wording, "different from how I'm used to dealing with things. I can excuse everyone else for things so easily because they're in different circumstances, but it's harder for myself. Then I look at you, and it's like I'm looking in a mirror. It's harder somehow to know that someone else knows exactly how I feel. It hurts to know that you went through it all too." She choked on her words. "I don't think I actually know where I'm going with this."
Jessica took a long sip from the flask, too long, especially in front of someone who wasn't drinking anymore. But she remembered Daisy's words, in the ruins of her office. I didn't feel safe enough to do it before. You're helping that. You're the only person I feel safe around. And her chest constricted, so tight it was hard to breathe, hard to drink. She coughed a little, lowering the flask. She just stared at Daisy while she spoke, not sure what emotion was in her eyes. Not sure what feeling was pressing down on her chest. Daisy's words should've hurt and they did, but there was a pleasant aftershock after the sting. And still her eyes burned. "Yeah," she choked out finally. "I -- it scares the hell out of me. I didn't--" She bit her lip, felt all those tears she never let loose start to slip out. "I didn't ever want this for someone else. You know that, right? You --" She stopped herself, partially because her voice was too thick with emotion and partially because she knew Daisy did know that, because there were parts of her that Daisy knew without even asking. They were so close, huddled together in this corner, and there was so much happiness around them and yet none of it touched them. Nothing broke through the pane of glass between her and the real world, nothing but Daisy.
Daisy watched Jessica carefully. Somehow it already felt like the whole wedding party was forgotten because all she could pay attention to was every slight change in Jessica's expression, recognizing every emotion as one she had in herself. It was both comforting and terrifying to see how similar they were. They couldn't take the guilt away from themselves. It was tattooed all over their bodies in invisible ink. If it could have been made of the blood of the people whose pain, suffering, and death they blamed themselves for, it would be. As the tears built up in Jessica's eyes, Daisy felt her chest tightening and tears filling up her own eyes. She sometimes thought she felt how other people did, but this was different. She felt pained by seeing Jessica like this, like she could actually feel what Jess was feeling as absurd as that sounded. She knew how scary it was. She was scared now. She was always so scared, but she was good at covering it up sometimes. "Yeah, I -- I know." She nodded. She had the urge to wipe away Jessica's tears as if they were her own somehow. Jessica was still her own person though, so she held herself back just slightly, only stepping a little closer to Jessica. Her own tears started slipping out of her eyes. "Can I . . . hug you?" she asked.
Shit, Jessica thought. She hadn't meant for this to happen -- hadn't meant for any of this shit to happen. She was supposed to come, take advantage of the open bar, and leave. But Daisy had drawn her in like a magnet, and for once she didn't hate that. Her mother's reappearance and death a few months back had shown her just how deeply she isolated herself, how terrified she was of connecting with someone. It still scared the hell out of her, looking at Daisy and seeing the same pain, the same fear, the same scars on a soul that was otherwise so beautiful. But this connection felt right, even if the thread connecting them was stained with trauma. There was something safe about it, just like Daisy said, something warm in the pit of her stomach, in the hollow part of her chest where she thought there was nothing left. The flask slipped from her hands, she watched it hit the floor. And when she looked up, there were tears in Daisy's eyes too. Jessica nodded, stepping closer, reaching one hand up to cup Daisy's face, brushing at her tears with her thumb. She couldn't take them away. She couldn't make anything in the past better. But the present? She leaned forward, until her forehead rested against Daisy's. "Only if I can kiss you," she whispered.
Daisy watched the flask drop, spilling its contents onto the floor. The clatter of it was loud, but the constant chatter of the room drowned it out, or maybe Daisy was just too focused on Jessica to pay attention to it. She was so often worried about people touching her. She thought she was good at hiding it, but it always worried her that the hands that tried to hold her were under someone else's control. No matter how much she trusted a person, there was always a part of her that was tight and afraid and paranoid to a point that she couldn't stand. With Jessica, that was different. Everything was different with Jessica. Daisy even doubted herself, barely trusted herself, but Jessica was safety. As her hand reached up to touch Daisy's face, Daisy leaned into it, like it was a safety net, keeping her from falling. She still was falling though, but it was into something good. Her eyes fluttered shut, not afraid for this moment to let her eyes close. She was safe. Kilgrave wasn't there, and now a beautiful woman wanted to kiss her. She wrapped her arms around Jessica's shoulders and pulled her closer, holding onto her tightly. "That sounds like a deal," she said before pressing her lips to Jessica's. She could taste the alcohol there, but she wasn't afraid of it like she used to be. It wasn't tainted by memories of Kilgrave. It was purified with a shared trauma, some tears, and a kiss.
Daisy's skin was so warm against her hand, her skin so soft and smooth as she leaned into the touch. Jessica felt a thousand synapses firing in her brain, but there was too much sensation to make sense of any of it. There was good whiskey being wasted on the ground, but she didn't care. All she cared about was the way Daisy's shoes squeak as she stepped closer. Those arms wrapped around her, pulling in her tight, and normally she hated the feeling of being held like this, hated it completely. It always felt like a trap, like a restraint, like a noose around her throat. But not from Daisy. Hugging her felt like going home, like her actual home, the one in her memories, the ones before him, before her mother injected the harsh reality into it. This felt like Christmases, like breakfasts on the patio, like being nearly asleep in front of the TV until warm arms carried her to bed. This felt simple. This felt safe. This felt real. And that was so important for both of them, knowing what was real. For once, this was a truth that didn't hurt anyone. And if hugging her felt like all that -- kissing her felt even better. Jessica leaned into Daisy, pressing her back against the wall, deepening the kiss. And it still felt so incredibly soft. Like they were encased in feathers, kissing inside a cloud.
Daisy didn't know how long the kiss lasted, didn't know if time even existed in that moment. Her body hummed as they kissed, emitting a low frequency at her pleasure of being pressed into the wall. Jessica couldn't have known that it was one of the things that she thoroughly enjoyed, yet it still made sense somehow that she had done it. They just. . . fit together. . . .like pieces solving a puzzle. She probably should've been distant. She had only just had her heart broken by JT's departure. She always had trouble in the dating department, and things rarely ever lasted with her. They always ended tragically. They always hurt her, and she always kept going, finding ways to move on, but it was easy for her to think that James hadn't loved her. James knew how she felt and acted the way he did anyways, but he also hadn't known her either. There was always a barrier between them of the things she just couldn't tell him. They never really had any hope for lasting, and a part of her had always resented him for what had happened to Eden and Alex. Jessica was so different in every way. Jessica knew so much about Daisy without Daisy even having to say a word. Jessica understood her more than anyone else ever could, and if Daisy could ever actually get the nauseating words out of her mouth, she could only imagine telling them to Jessica. There was always a slight worry that people judged her for what she did despite what they said, even with Coulson. With Jessica, that worry was gone. She could just . . . be who she was, not just some victim or overexaggerated hero. She could just be herself, Daisy Johnson, a girl who had been through a lot but was still hanging on.
That wasn't even mentioning the fact that there was no expectation here either. They both had their issues, and they both knew that. They weren't hiding from it, and they knew each other too well to even be able to hide it if they wanted to. Daisy could guess from her own experience that Jess probably didn't have a good track record with relationships either, and Kilgrave only made those things harder. It was strange, but maybe in spite of or because of their shared issues, Daisy thought she could have something good with Jessica. She didn't expect it from her. If this was just a kiss and nothing else, Daisy could accept that. If they ended up sleeping together without forming an actual relationship, she could accept that too. Whatever this was between them, she just wanted to be with Jessica. Daisy pulled away for just a moment to catch her breath. She didn't ask where they were going with it. It didn't matter, but then she got distracted. "Your eyes look so soft," she pointed out, a smile breaking out on her face and the softest chuckle passing over her lips.
Somewhere, far away, the wedding was still happening. People were dancing, laughing, talking, the smell of food was thick in the air. There were cheers as Dick and Babs cut the cake, there were heartfelt speeches. Something sappy was playing over the speakers, something slow and sweet and nauseatingly soft. But Jessica didn’t hear any of it. Her entire world had tunneled down to this moment, this woman, this kiss. Her mind was never quiet. It hadn’t been quite in years, not since she was a teenager. She dreamed about her family every night and woke herself up crying. Stirling’s body, sprawled on the concrete, a pool of red like a deformed halo around his head – that was an image she would never escape. The things Kilgrave had made her do and say and feel were all burned into her memory, every last second. His whisper was always in her ear, always reminding her. The screams, his, Hope, Luke – they played through her mind on repeat, never stopping, never skipping. She put her head down on her pillow and she heard those screams, looked at her hands and saw the blood, and her mind spun and spun with bad memories, noisy and cacophonous and loud.
But not right now. Right now, there was nothing. This was better than any bottle of liquor, because she would remember this. It felt pure. She had finally found refuge from the storm in her head – but she’d never expected to find it on Daisy’s lips. Now that she had it, she wanted it, in that aching way, something in the pit of stomach pulling her close to Daisy, pressing her body against hers, tears forgotten. The ones on her face mixed with the ones on Daisy’s, until she didn’t know where they came from anymore. She had never felt like this before. She was breathing heavy when Daisy pulled away, chest brushing against Daisy’s with every labored breath. She was smiling, even though her face was still wet with their tears. Her eyes met Daisy’s, and she laughed, strangled and strange at the compliment. “I don’t hear that a lot,” she whispered, one hand trailing down Daisy’s face. “Yours are warm,” she breathed, lips ghosting against Daisy’s. “So warm.” She kissed a trail down Daisy’s jawline, wanting to taste every part of her. Isn’t this precious? Jessica stilled against Daisy’s skin. There was no mistaking the voice. The storm had returned. I gotta say, Jessica… She could almost feel his breath against her neck – or was that Daisy’s? I would’ve loved a show like this when we were together. Loved it.(edited)
Hard to believe I didn’t plan this, isn’t it? Maybe she doesn’t feel safe around you at all. ‘Your eyes are soft.’He chuckled in hear. It’s a nice line. What if I wrote it? Jessica picked her head up, still breathing heavy. She stared into Daisy’s eyes, spent half a second looking for that imperceptible fog, any sign of him in her – and then she stopped. “It’s his fault,” she said, staring directly at Daisy, waiting for her to say the same back to her.
If Daisy actually cared about anything else right now, maybe she might have been concerned that they were making out in front of everyone else. Anyone could've seen what they were doing. Coulson could've seen what they were doing, and it wasn't like she really cared about what anyone thought about her or who she was kissing. The kissing itself that she could've and would've proudly done with Jessica in front of anyone, especially just to piss them off. The reason for the kiss was what she didn't want anyone to see, the tears, their mutual vulnerability right now. It was personal, and it was theirs. No one else should've had a part in it besides them. It was forgotten as soon as Jessica laughed. Daisy was so tuned to the slightest vibrations of everything that she felt every tremor of Jessica's body in her laugh, making her press even more against Daisy. Daisy cheeks flushed red as she realized she said what she was thinking out loud. Her head pointed down for a moment as if to avert her gaze from Jessica's, but she couldn't keep her own eyes off of Jessica's. "Well, do you get many people just staring into your eyes for this long?" She asked, her smile staying on her face. A selfish part of her wanted to think she had this to herself. The returned compliment was also one that Daisy hadn't heard often, if at all. Whenever she looked into the mirror, she saw cold eyes staring back. No matter how much she tried, her reflection in the mirror told her that those eyes were dead, but here was her mirror image, telling her that her eyes were warm. The other mirrors were broken carnival mirrors giving her a false image, but Jessica was real. Her compliment was real. Maybe though, it wasn't just the mirrors showing something false. Maybe Jessica was the kind of mirror that helped her change too. "I think that's because of you," she told her, her words slowing as Jessica's lips moved over hers again.
Daisy let out a low moan as Jessica kissed her jaw, making her remember just how sensitive one of those spots was. She tilted her head up, exposing her neck instinctively, and she rearranged her footing, both to gain more balance and to wrap her leg around Jessica and pull her closer. Then, the kissing stopped abruptly, and for a moment, Daisy worried she did something, said something wrong. Once Jessica picked her head up and looked into her eyes, Daisy could see what was happening. She could practically feel the panic within her own chest. She could hear the thumping of Jessica's heart in her chest, feel the fear and paranoia. Jessica was worried that it wasn't her, that Kilgrave was controlling her too. She wished she could take that part away from her. Daisy had the luxury of knowing that Jessica couldn't be controlled. Jessica didn't even have that, and as much as Daisy wanted to believe her bracelet could prove she wasn't under his control, she knew the many ways her own mind could find ways to not believe it was real. She unwrapped her leg from around Jessica, not wanting her to feel trapped here despite the fact that Daisy was the one pressed up against the wall and not the other way around. It was the emotional trap that Daisy was more concerned about. Then, Jessica reminded of her of their code phrase, and Daisy's expression shifted from one of worry and concern to a more steely expression. She bit her lip and nodded. "It's all his fault." She agreed, correcting her on the phrase just a little just to make sure she knew for sure that she wasn't just repeating her. "All the stuff he made us do, it's all his fault."
"He can't get anything from this," Daisy told her. "He can't get any satisfaction from this, from us, here, even if he wanted to. He can't see it. He'll get nothing from it." She glanced around and spotted a security camera. She didn't know if he would be watching it or not, but she wasn't taking any chances. She used her powers to tap into the vibrations inside it and break it. A few broken pieces dropped onto the floor, but no one else took notice. "It's all his fault, and he won't get anything from us anymore," she assured her. "And he couldn't have known this would happen between us anyways. I didn't even know it would happen. I never expected it to." Daisy took her hands off of Jessica, wanting to give her every choice in this, ask her everything, so it didn't remind her of his commands. "Do you want to stop? I don't mind, honestly." She was more concerned about Jessica than anything else really.
Jessica laughed again, nipping gently at a particular spot on her neck. “I don’t get a lot of people staring into my eyes at all,” she murmured. “Even my clients can’t. Apparently, I’m abrasive.” But she didn’t feel abrasive, not in Daisy’s grasp. Everyone else’s hands felt like sandpaper, made her nerves feel like live wires, exposed and dangerous, likely to spark. Even when she wanted it, when she found herself a real one-night stand, when she needed *something* to fill the emptiness inside her because there was never enough whiskey in the world – even then, they never looked her in the eye. They never made her feel comfortable, made her mind quiet. They were just distractions, they meant nothing at all. And this… this meant something.
She didn’t know what. Not yet. But for once, she didn’t feel the need to chase down the answer. She didn’t need to control this, because it didn’t make her feel out of control. It felt mutual. It felt right, like she’d never known how wrong she felt before.
God, she hoped it was real.
Because if Daisy couldn’t say it back – if her eyes glazed over, if she just stared at Jessica without that warmth, it would break her. Entirely. She would shatter into pieces right here, and her mind would be gone. If she ever had to see Daisy like that again, it would destroy her. Maybe she’d live, technically. Still be breathing. But she would never, ever be the same.
Daisy unwrapped their legs, and Jessica missed the warmth instantly. She bit her lip, wished for a second that she could read minds, that she could see what Daisy was thinking. Had she ruined this? If Daisy wasn’t Kilgrave’d, would she be offended that Jessica even suggested it? But almost as soon as those thoughts began swirling in her mind, Daisy banished them. Without a word. The truth was so clear in her eyes, undeniably powerful.
She let out a long breath, closed her eyes and let her forehead rest against Daisy’s again. Thank you, she thought, but couldn’t say aloud. She didn’t even know who she was thanking. Whatever God still watched over this crazy world? Or just Daisy herself? It didn’t matter. All that mattered was Daisy right now, saying everything Jessica hadn’t even realized she needed to hear. Saying it so simply, so calmly, a life raft in the middle of the goddamn ocean. Kilgrave couldn’t have known this would happen. Jessica didn’t believe this could happen. Not for her. She wasn’t like Trish or Babs. She wasn’t the girl people fell for, she was the girl who got people killed. Who hurt them, who isolated herself, who pushed everyone and everything away except the next drink.
Daisy was the exception.
She opened her eyes when Daisy asked if she wanted to stop. She was crying again, but she didn’t care, didn’t try to hide it. Her back was to the wedding, and she didn’t give a damn what was happening behind her. “Stop?” she whispered weakly. She leaned forward, pressed her lips hard against Daisy’s, hoping the action would somehow say everything she couldn’t. There was so much she wanted to say to Daisy, so much she wanted to tell her, wanted to thank her for, wanted to apologize for, wanted to say just to hear her laugh. But right now, she had more pressing matters on her mind. “I want to take you up to one of those hotel rooms,” she said, eyes flicking upwards. “Is that what you want?”
Daisy let out another short moan as Jessica nipped at her neck. She was trying not to be too loud, not wanting to grab too much attention since she really only wanted Jessica's right now. "You know, they're really missing out," she pointed out, not that she minded keeping those eyes to her only on her. "They must be assholes then, if they can't see this." She liked to look at Jessica's eyes a lot when she could in all of this. Maybe it was because it was a reminder that Jessica was herself, that she didn't have the same glazed look as everyone else, but Daisy thought there was more to it than that. Jessica's eyes were fierce but soft. A calming green surrounded the outer ring of her iris, and flames of brown seemed to creep just out of her pupils, threatening to engulf everything, including Daisy, in their warmth. She couldn't see how anyone could avoid looking at them.
She worried that Jessica wouldn't believe her. She would've understood it if she didn't. She wouldn't have been mad or upset. She'd been on that end of things too many times to count to be anything but understanding now. She knew that uncertainty, and if she could take it away with a kiss, she'd give her a thousand. She would've pulled on Jessica's lips with her own teeth, so Jess wouldn't have to bite her lip with such confliction. She would've pulled her closer than should've been humanely possible and kissed her until they both passed out.
She was glad to find out that Jessica did actually believe her. She didn't have to say anything. It was all obvious in the way Jessica held herself and the way her shoulders seemed to lose some of their tension as Jessica rested her head on Daisy's. There was so much said in that gesture alone. There was gratitude and guilt. There was an apology in the eyelashes that fluttered against her skin. Daisy wrapped her hands around Jessica's lower back, holding her lightly but closely, like they were broken vases glued back together, both of them fragile at the touch.
When Daisy saw the tears, she gently raised her hand to Jessica's face to wipe them away. At Jessica's question, Daisy nodded, urging her for an answer that she got in the form of a kiss. It pushed her back against the wall again, and Daisy smiled against her lips. She felt. . . . everything in it, and she pushed back against Jessica's mouth, tugging on her lower lip like she had been wanting to do before.
She smirked at Jessica's question, finding the way she said it entirely appealing, and she licked her lips. "I would love that." Hell, to Daisy, it didn't even matter if they were going up there for sex. She would've been fine with just laying on a bed with Jessica and watching a movie. She just wanted to do it with her and only her.
Oh god, Jessica thought. This had to stop, because between the sultry sweet moans spilling from Daisy’s lips, and the things she was saying, she was going to lose her mind. But in an utterly good way. If this led to oblivion, she was okay with that. Just – for a little while, she wanted to feel this, and only this. She wanted to wrap herself up in Daisy, wanted to melt their skin together, wanted to get lost in touch that didn’t hurt.
She should’ve pointed out that no, she was the asshole. She was the toxic thing, the infection that spread to everyone she remotely gave a damn about. But she was selfish. She didn’t want Daisy to stop talking about what everyone couldn’t see. When Daisy said it, she almost believed they really were missing out on something.
Trust wasn’t something that came naturally to her. It hadn’t for a long time, long before Kilgrave, long before the accident even. She’d never known how to trust someone, and the one time she’d tried with Stirling – that hungry, desperate sort of love that was never reciprocated – he’d planned on pimping out her superpowers. She told Luke the truth, only to have him dismiss it, and then become a victim of it. But Daisy wasn’t manipulative. She wasn’t in denial. And she was far from just some victim. Jessica didn’t have a word to encompass it – but amazing seemed like a fairly decent attempt.
After all, no one could make her feel more like glass about to break and still so *solid* at the same time. No one had ever managed to make her jagged edges feel this okay. Not gone, not forgotten or ignored. Not healed. But right now, in this moment, completely okay. Because Daisy’s edges were sharp, too. Maybe they were jagged, broken pieces, but judging from how their bodies were pressed together, they fit together just fine.
Daisy’s teeth on her lips was just the right amount of pain, sharp and clear, and Jessica grinned into it. Her entire body was tingling like she just downed a fifth of whiskey. But she hadn’t felt this clear, this sober(-ish), in a long time. At Daisy’s answer, the one she was hoping to hear phrased in just the perfect way, Jessica reached down, entwined her fingers with Daisy’s and pulled her gently off the wall. She glanced back at the wedding – the party was going strong, they were throwing shit now. A cute little blonde caught the bouquet, but that was the last thing she saw before slipping out of the reception hall. “Can I ask,” she whispered, once they were in the elevator. “What else would you love?” It wasn’t exactly a rhetorical question, but before Daisy could really answer, Jessica had her lips once more, pulling her in close to kiss her deeply.

My Arrow 6x07 Not-So-Liveblog: “Thanksgiving”
Since 6x07 aired on Thanksgiving and I was with my family, I wasn’t able to liveblog like I usually do, so this is all my thoughts on the episode in one long post!
Here we go!
> Okay, adorable opening scene with Oliver and William spending time together at the Thanksgiving Food Drive!
> “You should go save her.” -- Thank you, William, for looking out for your future stepmom!
> “The Flash is much more my type.” -- Felicity
Yeah, uh huh, suuuure.
> THIS WAS THE BUTT GRAB MOMENT THAT WE SAW IN THE SUPERS-POILERY FOOTAGE!
> I feel like we haven’t seen Quentin in forever!
> William looks so proud of his Dad with the three of them up there on that stage.
> You know, if people would just get off his back, Oliver would be able to do a LOT of good for this city!
> Okay, Agent Watson, lets get something straight here. I understand that you have to do your job and shit, but barging into a charity event and arresting a popular and successful public figure in front of everyone, including his girlfriend and his son, is LOW AND TACTLESS.
> WILLIAM CALLED OLIVER “DAD”!!!!!!!!!!
> Momma Felicity holding on to her kid.
> What is Agent Watson’s shtick?!?!?! Seriously, what could she possibly think that she has on him that would make her go after Oliver with such single-minded intensity?
And that’s not even to mention her self-righteous attitude...
> ‘Scuse you, Agent Watson, the prisoner has a name. Oliver friggin’ Queen.
> “You did this in front of my son. In front of my son!”
Oh Oliver, I would be pissed off too.
> “You’re not in a position to make demands.” -- Agent Watson.
Are you even in that kind of position? Do you not have superiors that you answer to?
> With the way Agent Watson is going after Oliver, it makes me wonder if she might not have some sort of personal stake in trying to put him away as the Green Arrow. Could we have another adversary out for revenge?
> Dad!Oliver is my absolute favorite Oliver. Ever.
> “If the criminals here think that it’s open season, then this city will become a war zone.” -- Diggle
Yup, pretty much. Bet you didn’t think about that, did ya, Agent Watson?!
Although, doesn't the city get attacked every May? I think we’re a few months too early...
> “You’re generation’s so impatient.” -- Cayden James
> Cayden James is an Evil Mastermind and wants to take over the world (I think... do we even know what his objective is yet?) but he wants to do it with as few deaths as possible...
I guess that’s refreshing... Considering that literally every villain before this season has never given a crap about the body count...
> Dinah is willing to put her job on the line to get Oliver out. How’s that for a team?
> When Curtis says that he can’t do something but he thinks Felicity can, it always hits me just how FREAKING REDICULOUSLY SMART our Felicity is.
> Oh hey! It’s Arastoo from Bones!
> WHAT DEFINITIVE EVIDENCE?!?!?!!?
> “I can’t let you do that.”
“I can’t let you not let me.”
Felicity offering her and Curtis’s start-up money to bail Oliver out?
> “I will distract myself clearing your good name.” -- Quentin
> Felicity using Turkey puns!
> So Curtis’ prototype clearly did not work... I really hope John can find something to help with that nerve damage. Something legal anyway.
> Now Felicity knows about John’s problem.
But “not wanting to add to Oliver’s plate” is kind of what got Digg into this situation in the first place...
> Is it just me or do I feel a brewing conflict between Felicity and Curtis? Felicity used their start-up money to bail Oliver out of jail without telling Curtis, and Curtis injected John with an untested prototype with telling Felicity. Major lack of communication...
I hope that they still get to have their company. Felicity was right when she talked about how much good they could do.
> “I’ve been mad at you before, John. This is the first time I’ve been disappointed.”
I also think Oliver is upset that he found out about everything that’s been going on from someone other than John. Given everything they’ve been through and the fact that they’re pretty much brothers, one would hope they could talk about things like that and rely on each other.
> “I blame myself for putting your needs, your goals, even your family, above my own.”
> THEA. God I miss Thea.
> Oliver needs his baby sister!!
“I need ya now.”
> Oliver back in the Arrow Cave!
> Dinah has been such a good addition to Team Arrow, not just in the field but to the team as their friend.
> It was hard to watch John and Oliver fight, but it was good to watch them reconcile.
> Nice shout out to last year’s crossover when this year’s is around the corner!
> Okay, I know that John’s ideal life was being the Green Arrow, but Oliver was meant to wear that leather.
> Team Arrow fighting those “cops” is not going to help with that whole Anti-Vigilante law thing... Especially since there’s no bomb.
> Who’s Cayden’s kid? Where exactly are all these villains getting this supposed information from?
> Once again, Oliver has to bash Team Arrow.
> Okay, Agent Watson. AGAIN. Clearly, you have not done your homework on Oliver Queen or the Green Arrow. Because neither one is a coward.
AND STOP BRINGING WILLIAM INTO THIS. The last two adversaries tried that and it didn’t work out so well for them! Damien Darhk and Adrian Chase ringing any bells?
I officially no longer like Agent Watson.
> William has to call John “Mr. Diggle”. So formal!
> Uh-oh. Oliver just lied to William about the Green Arrow stuff. Why do I get the feeling that will happen again and there will be a big fight about it where William tells Oliver that he broke his promise and Oliver will end up with an absolutely heartbroken look on his face that will make me sob?
> THEA IS AWAKE!!!!!!!!!!!
> And William can cook!
> Now I’m looking forward to a Thea/Raisa reunion!
> “Lazarus Pit water”
I think Oliver woke his sister up when he told her he needed his Speedy back.
> Aww! A hospital Thanksgiving! The family is back together!
NOW I AM READY FOR CRISIS ON EARTH X!!!
*While I don’t really like missing the episodes every week, being able to watch it after the fact and pause and play at will makes it so much easier to organize my thoughts!
So there it is! All my ramblings and opinions on Arrow 6x07. Now to get ready for Monday and Tuesday. I will be liveblogging this year’s crossover! Can’t wait!

Well, it was a bit of a struggle -- most of the goals I managed to meet either earlier on, with socials and dancing, and the “eat cake” goal this time was a cinch, given all the wandering Sims coming over, lured by the smell of free baked goods. XD But the last one, “Have an adult make a toast” -- oh, that gave me some trouble, as I didn’t have a bar on lot -- and I was pretty sure Victor and Alice’s plasma packs wouldn’t work! Fortunately, I thought to try a couple of alternate beverages -- and while Victor wasn’t able to purchase a coffee from the barista for the purpose, he was able to get a can of soda out of the vending machine -- and use it for toasting purposes. Which means -- drumroll please --
I FINALLY THREW A GOLD LEVEL BIRTHDAY PARTY! :D
Yes, at freaking last, I got Gold on one of these events! Thank you busy theater cafe lot for helping me out! And what’s the reward for getting the gold on a party like this? Why, a new dresser! Which, of course, prompted a room makeover for Emma! I decided to keep the purple theme, but update the actual wallpaper to something that reflected her a little better as an older Sim, along with her dresser and her desk. I think it looks pretty good for a newly-teenage Sim. We can jazz it up more according to her personality a bit later. :) Oh, what is her personality, you may ask? Well, in addition to being Active, she is now officially a Dance Machine! Because, well, it’s the family’s favorite leisure activity, why not? XD I also gave her a Nature aspiration to start with, given she liked to be outside playing a lot -- I figured she got that from her dad. :) I started her off on the Outdoor Enthusiast aspiration, but swapped over to The Curator soon after, since that one will be easier to make a start on in her home neighborhood.
Speaking of collecting things, the Van Dorts in general also got a new hot tub! As did all of Simdom. . .yes, Victor wanted one, so I went ahead and put the 20th Anniversary hot tub on their lot. It’s a new relaxation space, there are some non-eyebleeding color swatches, and -- as seen here -- Victor can upgrade it for more Handiness skill. It may not be the best 20th Anniversary present, but -- we got it, we may as well use it, right? *shrug*
Anyway, normally that would be where I leave off with the Van Dorts, ready to move onto the next family! However -- this year, we had a bit of an interesting situation. Namely, I was able to line up the in-game Love Day -- to be played on Valentine’s Day weekend.
. . .yeah, next time, Victor and Alice go on another date. XD I promise they go to a different location than last time!

Pre-Watching Thoughts: The run of the package films continues with this film which is seen as a bit of a spiritual successor to “Fantasia”. It is interesting that they continued to do the package films now that World War II was over, but in their defense they probably had a lot of unfinished ideas left during the war and nothing was enough to make a single film. This is another film that I have never seen before and after the last two package films were decent at best, it will be interesting to see if this film does any better than the last two and if I end up enjoying it.
Voice Cast: In a bit of a change, we finally have some major stars appear for this film though it is mainly musicians and singers with the only exception being the returning Sterling Holloway who does the narration for “Peter and the Wolf”. Obviously at the top of the list is the legendary Dinah Shore who sings “Two Silhouettes” and she does a graceful job in performing the song, and coupled with her is the ballet duo of David Lichine and Tania Riabouchinskaya who are rotoscoped into the background. We then have Benny Goodman who leads his orchestra in playing “All the Cats Join In” and “After You’re Gone”, and then we have Andy Russell who sings “Without You” and he does a good job in performing the ballad. Next we have Jerry Colonna who does the narration for “Casey at the Bat” and he also sings the song as well which he does a solid job at, and then we have opera singer Nelson Eddy who provides all the voices for “The Whale Who Wanted to Sing at the Met” and he does a great job especially in his performance as Willie. We also have a few groups involved as the Andrews Sisters sing “Johnnie Fedora and Alice Blue Bonnet”, and the Pied Pipers who join Goodman on “All the Cats Join In” and finally the Ken Darby Chorus sing “Blue Bayou” at the beginning. I do want to make an honorable mention to the King’s Chorus who sing “The Martins and the Coys” though it was left off the DVD release. It was good that they brought in professional musicians for this film and helped make it better than if they just used regular actors.

Other Characters: With a grand total of 10 segments in this film, we had a variety of characters involved in the film with each one situated into their own segment. Since there was no main character interwoven within the film, we instead as mentioned get a bunch of characters in each segment. We have the two egrets who fly together in “Blue Bayou” and then the group of teens that dance in “All the Cats Join In”, and then we have the full crowd in “Casey at the Bat” including Casey, the two teams, and the crowd themselves. We then have the ballet couple in “Two Silhouettes” before going to “Peter and the Wolf” where we have Peter, Sascha the bird, Sonya the duck, Ivan the cat, the wolf, the hunters, and Peter’s grandpa along with the village that doesn’t show up until Peter returns with the wolf. After that, we have the instruments dancing in “After You’ve Gone” and then we have Johnnie Fedora and Alice Blue Bonnet in their segment, and finally we have Willie the Whale in his segment along with his sea friends, and we also have Tetti-Tatti who mistakenly believes Willie ate three opera singers and has him killed even though the crew he hired tried to stop him. While again there was no central character to connect all the segments together, the characters in each segment were fine enough to carry that specific segment.
Songs: So much like Fantasia which featured orchestral pieces that already existed and had animated segments made around them, we have the same thing here except we have songs sung as opposed to an orchestra doing them. Therefore, they will not count in the rankings with the songs since they are not considered original songs written for the film, but we do have one that was written for the film and that is the intro song “Make Mine Music”. The song was fine enough for the film, but it definitely feels like they just made it to put an original song in the film so it will probably rank near the bottom.
Plot: As mentioned, this film was seen as a bit of a spiritual successor to Fantasia as it was just a bunch of different animated segments set to music with the exception being the songs were sung as opposed to just being done by an orchestra. Unlike the previous two films that did have a plot interwoven between the segments, this one was just a bunch of segments thrown in together to make up a film. While it worked for Fantasia since that felt more like an actual film, this one just felt like the segments should’ve just been released as separate segments and didn’t fit together as a film which makes it fall flat as a film.
Random Watching Thoughts: A couple of notes here, this is the one film in the Disney animated canon that is not on Disney+ for some weird reason and so I’m having to watch it on DVD, and also the Martins and the Coys segment is not included on the DVD release; I think this is the first film where we have well-known performers involved; It always seems like they have to create an original song that includes the title of the film; I like the little program they put in to make it feel like you are watching a stage show; Fun fact: the Blue Bayou segment was originally created for Fantasia; While the Blue Bayou song is nicely done, it does make you feel somewhat sleepy and wants to send you to bed; I wonder if some first thought the “All the Cats Join In” segments was going to be about cats, especially since they included the “caricature” pun; Was this supposed to be the stereotype of what teenagers were in the 1940s?; Another note is there was some slight nudity in this short that was edited out though it is seen very briefly on this version I’m watching; Does the little girl actually think she’s going to be able to go out with the teen?; That poor pencil having to try and keep up drawing everything; This scene with the teens really feels more reminiscent of the 1950s as opposed to the 40s; We go from an upbeat song in “All the Cats Join In” to a sad ballad in “Without You” which was an interesting choice in song placement; I wonder what would be the modern day equivalent of Mudville, a team so bad that they would be able to get the first draft pick; It’s funny how this story was written in the 1880s and yet in the modern day, there are a lot of players you could consider are a lot like Casey, an overly arrogant player who believes his own hype but is ultimately not a good player; I love that the crowd turns on the umpire when Casey blatantly gave himself two strikes; You know that Casey was destined to be let go after his performance; It is cool to hear an artist that you always hear about but never actually heard them sing, and Dinah Shore has a really beautiful voice; I’m not sure I would consider “Peter and the Wolf” a fairy tale; You can’t blame Peter’s grandpa for not wanting him to go out and hunt a wolf by himself; Does Peter actually think he will be able to take down a wolf with just a pop gun?; Only in Russia would a bird and a duck wear hats to keep themselves warm; How sad everyone must’ve felt when they thought the wolf killed Sonya; How was Peter and Ivan able to turn things around on the wolf and tie him up like that?; I think by this point they were running out of good ideas since they had to add an interlude that featured a bunch of dancing instruments to use as a segue; Now we have a love story between a fedora and a bonnet; $24 for a bonnet?; That fedora went through a lot in his life before finally reuniting with the bonnet as they were used for horses; How big would they have to make the stage for a whale to sing on?; I love how Tetti-Tatti immediately assumed that the whale must’ve swallowed an opera singer just by looking at the story of Jonah and the whale; Willie had a “whale” of a singing voice; Tetti-Tatti just couldn’t fathom that a whale could sing even though the crew knew it was the whale singing; I can only imagine what the poor seamstresses would be thinking if they were told to make clothes to fit a whale; It is sad that Willie thought he was auditioning not realizing that Tetti-Tatti wanted to kill him; So Willie had the ability to sing three different ranges when he was alive and now he can pretty much be a whole chorus by himself in death.
Overall Thoughts: Overall, this was possibly the worst film to this point in the Disney canon which is unfortunate because it wasn’t bad per se, but it just felt like a bunch of segments thrown together as opposed to an actual film. In Disney’s defense, they were just getting their animators back after World War II ended and they were in a bit of financial distress from the war, and in addition they had a lot of unfinished ideas laying around from when the studio lost their animators. So because of this, they were backed into a corner in that they had to get stuff out so they could bring some money in and get the studio back on its feet. However, they could’ve gone in a different direction and maybe not released a full-length film during this year while releasing the segments by themselves. Now whether this would’ve been bad financially is all in hindsight and these films helped get them through the rest of the decade, but it is fair to say that Disney is in a bit of a lull at this point. We will see how the rest of the decade plays out for them, but it is safe to say that this is arguably the worst film in the Disney canon at least to this point.
Final Grade: 3/10
