you bit your lip anxiously as you were going back and forth. deleting and re-typing messages, fingers hovering above your mobile phones keyboard as your mind ran wild with every possibility you could possibly imagine.

eventually, you settled on just taking a phone call instead of messaging. to be fair, calling definitely took way more courage, so your heartbeat was speeding up like crazy.

you shoved your phone up against your ear, as you placed your other hand on your hips. the rhythm of the ringing tone of your phone kept pacing on, as the person on the other line continuously had not picked up.

“yo, this is kil. sorry i can’t take a call, say what you want into my voicemail though.”

ah, how nice. the familiar recorded audio of killua’s voicemail had spoken for him, once again. you held your phone against your ear for a good minute, even once the voicemail audio had finished playing.

returning your phone back into your pocket, you stared up at the clear sky, longing for any sort of response. other than hopeful wishing, you only had one thought on your mind.

where even is he?

4 years had gone by in a flash, since you three had chosen separate paths.

gon had returned back home to whale island and aunt mito, you decided to go to yorknew city to have a fresh start, and killua chose to travel the world as a hunter, as well as scouting for a hiding place for his sister.

the three of you were once 14 year olds who needed to restart all over. except, something didn’t restart, and that was you and killua’s relationship.

every single time, when the messages sent to killua were consistently left on delivered, or when you’d hear his voicemail audio again, you would always recall one memory.

“so.. you’re gonna go travel with alluka?” you questioned as you turned around to face the young albino. you fidgeted with your hands in a fit of anxiousness, as you looked up at him.

“yeah. to be exact, i'm heading out to go find a safe spot for alluka. illumi and the others wanna get their hands on her.” hands shoved in his pockets as usual, he returned back a some what.. sad look? was it because of regret and his feeling of knowingly being unable to continue a consistent relationship with you?

“ah… i see. thats.. where are you going after?” you held a glimpse of hope in your heart. praying killua will tell you that he’ll turn around and reunite with you, once he’s settled alluka down.

“i’m gonna go travel around the world.” the silverette smiled gently, although the smile was tainted with slight uneasiness. “you’re gonna go.. travelling?” your eyes shot wide. shocked that your fantasy was being dragged to ruins, right in front of you.

“i.. i know, you want me to come back to you. don’t you?” he said as he stepped closer to you. “mhm.” you were forcing yourself to sound undisturbed so hard, plastering on a fake smile. “i’m sorry, y/n. theres just so much for me to experience out there.” he took one more close step towards you as he placed his hand onto the top of your head, planting a soft kiss onto your forehead.

“lets not keep alluka and gon waiting back there.” you walked off away from his embrace, feeling unsatisfied and bitter. leaving killua’s arm hanging in the air and heart hurting.

that was all too long ago. yet, you remember everything as clear as day.

what even were you guys? were you guys dating? it surely was something, or else he wouldn’t have given you that kiss on your forehead, 4 years ago.

“never mind, fuck this.” you sighed under your breath. finally, deciding to snap out of your daily over thinking. you went on with your way, as you continued walking through the busy sidewalks of yorknew.

it was a comforting sunny morning. sure.. your relationship with killua was pretty cold but at least the weather was giving you warmth.

it was meant to be a usual, regular and totally not out of the ordinary morning. so why the fuck is killua suddenly standing in the distance, across the ocean of people.

you had to do a double take, as well as a couple of blinks to knock some sense into yourself. you could feel your heart practically sink into your stomach, as your mouth was hanging agape.

you were about to do a 180 degrees and run off, but just when you were about to turn away, killua’s head turned at your direction.

you were frozen in place, you could have ran but you felt as if some unknown force held you down in place.

“shit” you repeatedly muttered under your breath agitatedly. killua’s eyes soon fell onto you. sapphire eyes had matured, looking even more and more like his father’s.. except when his gaze laid upon you, those blue eyes looked just like how they were when he was 14 and infatuated with you.

killua began pushing himself against the big crowd, aiming to get closer towards where you were standing. unfortunately, he did end up reaching you.

“hey.”

“uh— killua… hi.”

you stared at the busy street in front of you, desperately not wanting to look at killua, who was now sitting beside you.

you two had decided on settling down at a bench on the sidewalk, in the middle of the lively city. though, you certainly did not wanna be alive right now.

“you can’t ignore me forever, y/n.” the albino turned to you, desperately trying to get any sort of acknowledgment out of you.

the only acknowledgment you gave back was you folding your arms in response to his desperation.

“you know what, killua? im leaving.” you stood up frustratingly, not looking at killua even once. you held onto your shoulder bag angrily, as you began heading off.

“you’re not leaving until you tell me whats wrong with us!” killua grabs onto your hand and interrupts your departure.

you take a harsh turn, and glare at killua fiercely. “fine, you wanna know whats wrong?” you question with a tone of bitterness. you were about to let out everything you had ever held in.

“i don’t know how you can’t tell whats wrong with us! we go our separate ways and you barely contact me even though we aren’t technically single! you knew how bad i wanted you to come see me once you dropped alluka off somewhere good.. so why did you barely call or return my messages? fuck, you never even tried to come find me! its like as if i was never anything to you! do you not remember how much we meant to each other when we were always going on adventures with gon? and yet you have the nerve to ask me whats wrong with us.”

everything felt slower and quite, despite all the noise from the city and cars. you didn’t dare to look at him, you just ran away.

away from everything. away from killua, and all the nonsense. you just had go go back home and calm down.

once you returned back to your apartment, you slammed your bedroom door and collapsed into bed. you basically passed out into sleep, immediately.

the next morning arrived way too soon.

your hair was messed up, lip gloss smudged off onto your bedsheets and mascara stained on the bottom of your eyes. you felt so dusty and heart heavy.

you got up and pulled out your phone from your bag. you had around 20 missed calls and 50 messages from killua, that awoke something inside of you again.

a fit of anger and even resent washed over you. you held your phone up against your ear, as you returned a call back to the albino you were about to scream at. although, you were too tired to actually scream.

“hello? OH SHIT— Y/N ARE YOU OKAY? WHERE DID YOU GO? WHERE ARE YOU?”

“shut the fuck up kil.”

“at least you still call me that.”

“leave me alone, don’t come looking for me.”

“i don’t care, y/n. after you ran off, i realised how terrible i’d been for so many years towards you. i took time to think to myself about everything… everything about us.”

“wow. so suddenly you wanna be my boyfriend after four years.”

you hung up on killua before he could even continue speaking. you threw your phone onto your bed as you decided to head out for breakfast. leaving your phone behind, so you could escape killua probably spamming you again.

as the cafe door opened, the bell above the door rang happily. you stepped into the cafe you usually visited for breakfast, trying to hopefully calm yourself down with a nice peaceful breakfast. no way would killua ever find you here. that bastard barely tried to contact you, so how would he even know this is where you regularly visited?

as you stepped into the cafe doorway, you opened your eyes with a newfound sense of peace… only to have it be immediately thrown out the window.

you opened your eyes to see killua leaning against the cafe barista counter.

you felt like running away all over again.

“y/n, can you please at least listen to me?”

“how the fuck do you know i come here?”

“i know its been a few years but, no way are you that stupid to forget that my brother is milluki zoldyck.”

“why am i even surprised at this point?”

the awkwardness and unease in the air between you two was definitely apparent. the whole cafe could practically feel it, even the barista’s were moving slower than usual just to be quiet, scared that if they made any sudden sounds would cause you or killua to kill them.

your usual breakfast order of earl grey tea and blueberry muffin sat in front of you on the wooden table. across that, was an opposing chocolate muffin and a tall glass of freshly squeezed orange juice.

unfortunately, this brought back some nostalgic memories for you. killua still had his insane sweet-tooth, some things never change..

“i thought about what you said yesterday, y/n.” the silverette muttered as he munched on his chocolate muffin. “good.” you sharply shot back, legs and arms crossed firmly.

“y/n, i know i’ve hurt you. i shouldn’t have put all my focus onto being a hunter and travelling.” killua placed his unfinished muffin onto the table as he gazed up at you.

you were still just as beautiful as you had been as when you three separated, years ago. killua still fondly remembers how your skin looked as it was kissed by moonlight, during the times when you, him and gon would be hiding in the lush forests while planning to take down the chimera ants.

“yeah right.” you still looked off to the side as you sunk into your seat. voice filled with a long aged resentment and hostility.

“you do realise you also hurt me, right? so calm the fuck down.” killua hissed back, patience coming to a breaking point. his sapphire eyes grew narrow and sharp.

“and how the hell did i do that?” you angrily snapped as you finally looked at him directly.

“maybe because you left me hanging there after we finally confessed to each other? being a hunter is important to me, but so were you. you were the only one there for me when gon was caught up with kite’s death…” killua’s voice trailed off as he remembered all the simpler times between you and him and when you were the only pillar of support he had during the mission against the chimera ants.

“please, y/n. let me make it up to you.”

“fine.”

you and killua… at last, decided to try to smooth over the bumps in your relationship.

you stood at the central park of yorknew city, in the middle of mass amounts of greenery and the moist air. you stared off into the distance, as killua had gone off to go get something, apparently.

“hey.” killua abruptly said from behind. you jumped around in a fit of surprise, “WOAH! damn kil, i forgot you walked completely silent.” you sighed in relief as you fixed your hair in a fit of embarrassment.

you were now face to face with the handsome silverette.

“oh?” you let out curiously as you spotted two things in killua’s hands. in killua’s pale hands, were two ice cream cones. one was chocolate, the other held lemon.

“ah… i see. you still remember that lemon is my favourite?” you mutter softly, pleasantly surprised by killua’s kind gesture. “of course i do, idiot.” the albino offered the ice cream cone towards you, as he felt his face burning up nervously.

you two decided to sit down on the grass against a tall willow tree, that overlooked a small pond in the park.

as you two were sat beside each other, the willow tree provided great shade from the sun. as you ate away at your lemon flavoured ice cream, your heart felt odd.

you had felt annoyed at killua for so long, but suddenly when he’s finally beside you. you felt in love once more and like a young teenager all over again.

“i’ve uh.. missed you kil.” you couldn’t believe you finally had a chance to utter those words out to him.

“i can tell.” killua sneakily smirked as he continued munching on his chocolate ice cream. the albino continued focusing on his ice cream, but he could see you glaring at him jaw dropped, from his peripheral vision.

once you two had finished the icy delights, you both looked off into the distance of the pond, in silence. except, this time was a comfortable silence.

“i’m really sorry, y/n. i turned to being a hunter, i didn’t know how to face you. i didn’t want to face the possibility of you rejecting me.” killua gently whispered as he started playing with locks of your hair.

you were now leaning onto him with your head on killua’s shoulders, up against the bark of the willow tree.

“you’re so stupid sometimes… kil. i wouldn't have ever rejected you.” you smiled sweetly as you nestled your head into the crook of killua’s neck.

“i suppose what happened to gon overwhelmed me too much.” killua sighed unhappily. “hmm.. yeah i know.” you gently muttered back.

killua soon wrapped his arms around you as he placed his head onto yours. “i just wish i talked to you sooner…” the albino now sounded sleepy.

“mhm.. me too.” you responded with a tone of sadness, but also hope for a better future for the two of you.

“this time, i’ll stay with you y/n.”

“promise me that you’ll bring me with you, if you ever go back to being a hunter.”

“i promise. i’ll always come back to you no matter what.”

“im glad you did this time.”

- none, and i mean NONE, of the founding members of the troupe will ever date or be in a relationship with someone that they didn’t grow up with. after all, if you weren’t there for them at their lowest and you weren’t there to suffer through poverty, starvation, and losing sarasa with them, then you’re not worthy or dating them.

- none of them would EVER k!dnap someone who they’re “in love” with. although i already established that they wouldn’t fall in love with someone who they didn’t grow up with, we’ll just make this hypothetical scenario. sure, they’re thieves, but they won’t k!dnap someone unless there’s some sort of reward: such as money or connections. plus, none of them would take out precious time all for some random person they started obsessing over, let alone spend time k!dnapping them.

- chrollo should be the only spider to make it out of the succession war alive in terms of plot, fanservice, and closure. chrollo is already an empty shell, with the spider practically as his very own identity. if all of the spiders die, leaving online him alive, not only will it parallel kurapika but also make chrollo realize that he is nothing without the troupe.

- it would be better if we never found out shizuku’s backstory and only how she joined the troupe. in my humblest opinion, i think shizuku was only a character created for fanservice and for the troupe to be more well liked and nothing else other than relatability.

- making fun of milluki for his weight is immature and also the same as making fun of killua for being scared of illumi. as far as we know, all of the zoldycks (other than alluka) went through the same training and ended up with different ways of coping. for illumi it was his emotionlessness, for killua it was his desire to run away, for kalluto it was his extremely reserved and quiet nature, and for milluki it was eating.

- hisoka is honestly not as bad as the fans say. as long as he’s not in a completely bloodlusted state and you’re not a powerful nen user, hisoka really wouldn’t care that much about you, even if you’re under 18. hisoka actually seems to be a pretty chill guy as long as the situation doesn’t fit the prior mentioned requirements. now, im not defending him for being a pdf file or anything, but im just saying.

- if you hate on illumi for being creepy and disturbing, then you missed the whole point of his character. he is supposed to be creepy. he’s a character who loves his family deeply (alluka aside😔 i love my girl but illumi doesn’t), but because of the way he was raised, he doesn’t know how to express it in a proper and healthy manner, hence why he does such disturbing things.

- you’d be perfectly fine if you stayed in a room with a phantom troupe member for 24 hours or the entire group as long as you don’t bother them too much or if you’re not worth too much. aside from missions, they honestly seem pretty chill. if you’re not worth anything and if you’re not bothering them, why would they kill you?

Assassins Don't Have Friends

Illumi Zoldyck was a perfect assassin and a perfect son. He never showed fear, vulnerability, was excellent at his job and followed all the rules to a t. Or so everyone thought.

It wasn't long ago that Illumi had went on the job that would unknowingly change his life, maybe about three months give or take. He was assigned to take out a member of the mafia known for trading illegal goods. Apparently he had owed the man who hired Illumi money and had no means of paying it. He was to dispose of the target swiftly and silently.

After the job had been done the young Zoldyck somehow failed to notice the figure in the corner, who had been watching him with surprised and tired eyes. Upon realizing he was not alone, the boy was quick to pin the figure down, ready to take their life at any given moment. Now that he was up close to this person, he realized it was another kid around his age, wearing tattered and dirty clothes. The part that intrigued him most is that they didn't seem afraid of him.

The mysterious person only smiled at him, eyes softening with admiration as they spoke.

"Thank you for saving me."

The young assassin stared blankly in confusion. Saving them? All he did was his job and you just happened to be there, he didn't really try benefiting you on purpose. Illumi lowered the needle he had pointed at the persons neck, eyes narrowing before he responded.

"What are you talking about?"

"That man you killed. I was just auctioned off to him and needless to say he was a horrible man, so thank you. I'm Y/n by the way."

Illumi got off of Y/n, turning around to leave before speaking up once more.

"I didn't kill him for you, I was doing my job. I should kill you too for being a witness, but I'll let you go this once."

The Zoldyck boy began to embark on his journey back home before he heard footsteps running to catch up to him.

"I never caught your name? Who are you anyway?"

He continued to walk, not once turning to face Y/n.

"Quit following me."

"But I have nowhere to go-"

"I don't care where you go, just get away from me."

It was silent for a few moments as the teens continued to walk. Y/n ignored Illumi's demands as they neared a path that stretched through a vast forest. At the end of the trail there was a large mountain. Illumi knows he shouldn't have led this stranger so close to his home, but something inside him wouldn't let him push them away.

"You still haven't told me your name. Are you like a secret spy or something? Geez we've been walking for so long- don't tell me we have to walk all the way up that mountain!"

The young assassin stopped when they got to the base of the mountain, causing Y/n to run into his back with a small 'oof'.

In front of them was a large stone wall with metal doors in the center.

"This is as far as I can allow you to get. I shouldn't have let you follow me for so long but frankly you don't pose any threat."

"Aww, I think you just let me follow you so far because you like me! Noowwww can I finally know the name of my new friend?"

Y/n smiled at the stoic male in front of them, blinking and awaiting a response.

"Assassins don't have friends, now leave."

Illumi approached the seven large doors of his home and began to push them open before pausing.

"It's Illumi."

He entered through those doors while Y/n stood confused for a few moments before realizing.

That was his name.

While the doors were closing he heard a voice yell from the opposite side.

"Okay Mr assassin! I'll come back here here every day to see you!"

And that's exactly what you did. Every day for about a week you showed up at the foot of the mountain, sometimes convincing Zebro to call the butlers quarters.

After Illumi found out about this, he finally went down to meet them. This time you looked much cleaner, holding a small basket with a cloth over it.

"What the hell are you doing here?"

"I told you I would visit every day, didn't I? Oh, and this is for you. I managed to make a little money by fighting so consider this as a "thank you'. Y'know, for killing that guy?"

You held out the basket, gesturing for the boy in front of you to take it. He lifted the cloth to reveal some baked goods underneath. Illumi sighed and pinched the bridge of his nose.

"You can't keep trying to call the house. I told you assassins don't have friends."

"Welllll can't you make an acception for little ole me?" you asked, batting your eyelashes at him. "It could be our little secret!"

Without a word, Illumi grabbed one of your wrists and began walking into the forest surrounding his home. He stopped as the both of you came to a clearing, sitting down against the trunk of a tree.

"You're annoyingly stubborn."

You only smiled before sitting down next to him, reaching into your basket and pulling out two custard buns.

"Well it seems to work," you started, offering him one of the buns. "We're friends now, after all."

Illymi accepted the sweet treat with a sigh and ended up sitting there with you for hours. At some point you had both agreed to meet there once a week.

After these visits Illumi began developing a soft spot for you. He anticipated the days you would show up and the time you got to spend together.

Maybe he wasn't a perfect son.

He had secretly been seeing you without his family knowing and you were beginning to break down those walls of his.

Maybe he wasn't the perfect assassin.

Because after all, assassins don't have friends.

illumi realizing he’s in love but there is internal conflict within himself not just due to his family but his own emotions and thought if he can even bring balances / if he was what you want. A lil Angst and comfort? You can change it around and everything if ya want I don’t mind. I just like givin prompts lol. And if you’ve done illumi for a similar request or exact same can you do meruem , shalnark or Franklin if you write any of them.

Ooh, I have no idea if I had a similar request because I wrote so much and forgot to update my masterlist haha! However, I'll just write some for all of the characters because why not. Thank you for the request!

Illumi, Shalnark, Franklin, Meruem — Internal Conflict about love

Illumi

Unless you were arranged to marry him, he will be in a serious conflict with himself. Sure, the Zoldycks need a good heir, but Illumi knows himself that he's not meant for the title of Zoldyck head. Because of this, he probably has a bad thought that he shouldn't have interest in a love interest or *gasp* marriage. However, here he is wondering why his heart beats when you talk to him, why he can't see you getting hurt (unless it's training but :/)

I feel like, in a horrible sense, his first instinct is to try and kill you. If you're gone that means he won't have to go through the hurdles he has every night thinking about you. But he can't bring himself to do it. If it gets to the point he can't bear it, he might go through with it

He won't dare bring it up to his mother or father, but if his grandfather realize something's up he might have to talk to him. Zeno is definitely the more chill guy in the family, which means Illumi might be able to convince you to join the Zoldycks if you weren't invited already. The hardest obstacle would be Kikyo, but that's for later

Overall I feel like you would be able to see the internal conflict more than he would like to admit. He's staring at you for really long (concerningly long) times, he talks to you even harsher than before, etc. If you want to live, either cut ties with him or try to convince him love isn't a bad thing

Shalnark

I feel like he doesn't actually mind love that much, he just gets conflicted if you're a civilian or if you're someone he targeted originally. Think enemies to lovers

He would also try to murder you :/ but he might consult Chrollo first. Shalnark will never tell anyone about his crush, especially Feitan or Phinks. However, Chrollo is a mediator for the team and ultimately the only person in the troupe that probably knows what romance is (but it's only from books haha). This means you might be saved by Chrollo's recommendation to Shalnark that love isn't bad

Shalnark will be frank with you on his occupation as a world-renowned criminal. He doesn't want you to fall in love with someone who isn't him, and he wants to give you one more chance before he wants you to be his. If you leave, that means he'll just go on with his daily life. However, if you decide to stay, he might force you to move to Meteor City for "your safety"

You'll not be able to tell he's conflicted because of how he's just so good at hiding emotions. He's smiling, laughing as he usually does. However, something's off. You can tell he's watching you more intently than before while you're back is turned, almost like he's debating throwing a needle in your head.

Franklin

He's honestly also super chill about love, like it's hard to find him conflicted. However, the only time he would be conflicted would be if he found out you're just a regular civilian who could be subject to unneeded visitors from the Hunter Association or the mafia. He doesn't want to see you get hurt

Won't resort to violence! He'll sit down and talk to himself before talking to Chrollo about the matter. Similar to Shalnark's logic, Chrollo's the counselor and leader of the team. He wants to know if he should tell you about his feelings or if it's better for your well-being to not say anything.

Franklin eventually tells you. He tells you in a secluded and quiet environment just what he really does. He tells you he understands if you disagree with him, if you want to run away and tell the police (though this means he might have to resort to violence), but in the end he wants you to be safe. If you leave, that'll be the end of you two's relationship. If you stay, he'll be grateful and tell you he'll always make sure you're safe.

You could probably tell he liked you and had this internal conflict. He started to blush more and he would be quiet around you more than he did before. If you ask him before his big reveal, he'll originally deny these feelings

Meruem

Assuming you're Komugi, he goes through the entire Chimera Ant Arc and doesn't tell you until you two are literally dying :/

However! If you aren't the gungi genius then how this starts might've been similar. Meruem might've had you explain some human concepts to him or maybe he kept you around because it seemed like you had potential for something the ants would need. Nonetheless, his feelings were pure accident.

This leads to him having a conflict that all the rest of the royal guards can see. Pitou won't really mind the king's sudden interest in you, though Pitou might feel it's a little strange how such a weak person like you stayed alive for more than a few hours next to Meruem. Then there's Youpi, who could care less about who the king likes. This guy thinks as long as you aren't a threat to the king's power, no worries. The issue is Pouf. He'll try to convince Meruem you're worthless and whenever Meruem goes through the "should-I-kill-y/n" Pouf will advocate for your death :/. Meruem finds himself never following through this though, so at some point he just stops asking out loud

You will see the conflict in real time, also hear from him about his emotions. He doesn't actually tell you he loves you since he doesn't really know what "love" means. He'll tell you what he's feeling, and then tell you with no corners cut that sometimes he feels like he should kill you (seriously what is with these ants). Give him some time, he'll learn eventually that he's going through a crush and nothing that will kill him (until Netero happens but -_-)

Do you think hisoillu romantic relationship would be confirmed more explicitly in the future in the manga?

I have read this very interesting post for killugon about how togashi Never leave thing vaguely / ambiguous and always confirmed the romance between queer characters, but in hisoillu case even if illumi said they were engaged, there still a lot of people who always repeat the excuse of («THiS Is jUsT fOr ThE mOnEy») even thought to togashi purposely shoose specific romantic word to describe It… this is why I wonder if you think we would be have additional elements who will confirme more explicitly their loves later in the manga?

I don't think so.

As the killugon post had mentioned, Togashi is all abt subtlety especially when it comes to hunter x hunter. Meruem and Komugi never came outright and said that they love each other. Alluka never came outright and said shes trans. and Hisoka and Illumi arent going to come outright to say they love each other.

You will ALWAYS have people that deny the existence of queer relationships/characters regardless of media. Even if you had Hisoka and Illumi kiss on camera, there is always going to be the people saying "This isnt illumi actually, its someone else in disguise!" or "Hisoka definitely manipulated him!" or "it wasnt actually a love kiss it was just obligation!" THE most explicit thing that could have been done in hisoillus relationship was to loudly and boldly announce their marriage, which Togashi did. And just like you said, people still grasp at straws to deny their relationship's existence. Thats just how its always going to be. You can easily debunk every single excuse they give you with full proof and evidence, and they still wouldn't care. The mistranslation excuse was debunked by a japanese speaking person ages ago with photo evidence and explanations and people will still call it mistranslation. They don't care about whats canon or what isn't, they only care about erasing queer characters from the media.

I think hisoillu specifically being unpopular as queer characters is because of the fact that theyre shitty people and the antagonists of the main lovable characters. Most people don't want to touch Hisoka with a ten inch pole and Illumi by association. But if you actually care and pay half a braincell to focus on their characters and interactions, you'd find that its undeniable that they've always favored each other in each and every single interaction they've had when they never do so with other people.

What I do think will be shown in the future of the manga is hisoillu's explicit collaboration against the troupe on the black whale and more of them working together in the future. Maybe they'll even mention the fact that Hisoka is part of the Zoldyck family now and it'll be acknowledged by other Zoldycks. But thats about it. And that's all we'll ever need, really. Let people cry and delude themselves all they want, but we as hisoillu fans should not need more than that to know whats canon and whats not.

The only way i see them being "more" explicitly confirmed as romantic in the future is if togashi had enough of bitches whining about it and straight up goes himself "is it not obvious" when someone asks him about hisoillus romantic relationship lmfao

Illumi Zoldyck

Out of everyon on this list, Illumi would have the strictest expectations for his future wife. Strong nen abilities are at the top of that list, but on a purely physical level, Illumi’d prefer a soft, feminine figure. Breeding is at the top of his priorities as Killua has shown no interest in letting them near any future children and Illumi’s the eldest. Meaning, wide, healthy hips and a full chest would be his top priority. Likely with a taste for darker, longer hair, he all around prefers his wifely options to be feminine in personality and body.

Chrollo Lucifer

On the opposite end of the spectrum, Chrollo likely cares the least about the physical appearance of his partners. He prefers to prioritize less shallow things, like a brilliant and cunning mind, a selfless streak, good heart, or useful abilities of any sort. But, as someone who grew up in a rougher area, I do feel like he’d be attracted to stable bodies. No one too flashy, but someone with a bit of weight to prove they’re able to take good care of themselves, a sign of financial security, who might have a bit of muscle and can handle themselves.

Hisoka Morrow

Hisoka, meanwhile, is neither picky, nor carefree about what his partner looks like. He doesn’t care for gender, or about chisled, defined muscles or height. Yet, his dream partner is someone with a fair share of muscle on their body. He wants a powerful lover, so he wants someone who takes good care of their body. Toned is the best description for the physical traits he looks for. He wants to see abs and powerful muscles when his partner flexes. He wants them sturdy, and able to take a hit, no toothpick elves for him. Those types are fun, as are the curvascious femmes and top heavy doritos, but he wants a well rounded lover. Strong legs, a tight torso, and powerful arms.

Feitan

Feitan is a sadist, he’s not picky so long as his sadism is met. That being said, his crème de la crème of physical looks is someone on the softer side. Not weak and pathetic, he does enjoy a fight to really fuel the sadism. But, someone with plenty of body to bite, cut, and dig into. The extra weight, in his head, ensures he can cut just a little deeper. Bruise a little darker with less fear of damaging the internals too bad. Is that mindset true? I dunno, but he’d probably think that way.

Leorio Paradinight

Leorio is the hardest one here to guess on what type he’d like. He cares the least about physical looks, he only wants a smart, ambitious partner who knows what they want and is striving to get it. He wants someone on an even footing with him in his goal to become a doctor. Weight, height, hair color, skin color, nothing like that matters to him. Have a good personality and the drive to chase your dreams into reality, and he’s smitten.

Kurapika Kurta

Like Leorio, Kurapika looks more into personality and morals then physical looks. Yet, unlike Leorio, he does have a favorite in terms of looks. If he had it his way, he seems like he’d like a partner with lighter, longer hair. He would like a softer partner, no one out and about to cause trouble, a softer place to turn to when he struggles or faces down a challenging mission for the hunters.

Gon

Gon gave no shits about physical looks in childhood, he has zero care for it in his adulthood. He just wants someone able to keep up with him and match his energy. So, someone with an active, leaner body, with muscles and stamina and low maintenance hair. He’s an active man, running around exploring and fighting, he’d like someone who can match that without caring for long hair or a few scrapes.

Killua Zoldyck

Killua gives no thought to appearance out of spite. His family claims to not be snooty on appearance, but they have high expectations for any of their kids’ partners, so Killua refuses to look at such shallow details. Chubby? Muscular? Tall? Thin? He doesn’t care. So long as his partner isn’t vain and annoying, he couldn’t care less. Save for the small things, like him not particularly liking dark haired partners due to how they look too similar to his family. It’s not like he particularly wants kids though, so he has no reason to worry about them ‘fitting in’ with his family.

Illumi!

Illumi is the first chatacter I'll talk about that we've seen recently. Allegedly, he's married to hisoka and stands to gain a great deal of money from this arrangement when he kills Hisoka.

I personally ascribe to the theory that Hisoka is currently disguised as Illumi and Illumi is currently disguised as Hisoka. The marriage proposal sounds like a very Hisoka lie. Needlessly flirtatous I would say, and that describes Hisoka to a T.

Illumi as Hisoka however is pretty stern, and makes expressions similar to those of Illumi. He never lies, merely avoids the question and does not directly answer to Hisoka. He's very strong and pretty evil, but that's all we know about "Hisoka."

Tbh the future holds the camera cutting back to Illumi and he's balls deep in with hisoka while they casually talk about plans to kill the spiders, then swap places as each person resumes their real identity, foreseeing Chrollo foreseeing that Illumi was secretly Hisoka, and attacking with a plan to counter Hisoka that faulters in the face of Illumi.

Basically, they're swapped but I think Chrollo has already figured it out and his plan involves Bonolonov and Machi, whose abilities are bad against Hisoka, finding Illumi disguised as Hisoka and fighting him to eliminate Illumi, Hisokas only help, only to be surpised when Hisoka is really Hisoka.

ALTERNATIVELY

if Illumi is really who he says, his methods are circuitous. If he really wanted to find Hisoka, he would probably best be served sticking to a group of spiders, following them until a lead presented itself, then ditch once it did.

Instead he chooses to travel with his younger sibling, someone trustable and obedient with passable information gathering capacities. If I had to guess, Illumi is telling the truth but not the whole truth. He is searching for Hisoka, but that's a second or third priority to a larger family project. Perhaps one of the Kakin Princes has hired the zoldyck in advance, being tipped off to succession war in advance, or at least infurring from it's convience aboard the black whale. The current hot target would likely be morena.

🤎 Darling would be pretty well-known and famous if they'd use their powers in any public way or they try to hide their powers precisely because they are afraid everyone will come after them. If Illumi heard about you before personally knowing you, he'd probably only be a very bit interested since you might just be the most powerful being walking on earth. From telepathy, teleportation to changing the whole world with a single thought, who wouldn't come after you if knowing that. The Zoldyck family would most definitely get involved if such a chase after you would really happen since they're certainly interested too and also know what dangers might come if someone would use you. If someone can catch you that is since you can travel through time and even erase and change memories.

🤎 I can honestly imagine darling being very quirky and eccentric since they're aware how allmighty they are and Illumi would definitely see it as a waste of potential if they wouldn't be an assassin or wouldn't really use their power at all. They could have the whole world at their feet after all. Illumi is possessive and controlling though so he finds himself struggling since he's smart enough to know that he doesn't really stand a change against someone like you. He tries to analyze you for any weaknesses you might potentially have, family or friends for example, only to not be able to succeed. This is ridiculously unfair and no one is more aware of that than darling themselves is. He definitely ends up brooding about his own inability and he's actually a bit shocked to find himself thinking that way. Failure has never been an option for him, this is the first time he has found himself utterly defeated. He's always lingeroung near you though, stalking you and observing you because there has to be a way.

Chrollo Lucilfer

📖 It's either him knowing your powers before knowing you or knowing you before being aware of your powers. If he has heard about your abilities, he's definitely coming to steal your abilities and add it to his collection. It's probably quite difficult to track darling down though since they probably make sure to hide themselves and their true identity so well so it isn't even unlikely for Chrollo to just randomly meet darling without knowing that they're the person he has been searching for. In that case he gets to know them and notices that they're a bit of a weirdo who doesn't have much friends but he finds them interesting so he overlooks all their weird antics. I'm pretty sure darling might already be aware since they have probably already read his mind and therefore know who he is and that he's after them but also knows that he doesn't know that the person he's searching for is right next to him.

📖 Honestly, you can allow yourself to be friends with one of the most wanted criminals in history since you know about his Nen-ability and even if some of your abilities are rather difficult to control, you can use many others which are by themselves already plenty strong. So even if Chrollo thinks that he has the upper hand, darling is really the one wearing secretly the crown in here. Chrollo finds out at one point though, the latest would be when he tries to abduct you since he wants to keep you with him forever where you reveal a slice of your abilities before fleeing, merciful enough to leave his memories intact. It's then that Chrollo realizes who you were all along and finds himself deeply impressed with how you were able to fool himself for so long. Others would probably give up at one point when realizing just how powerful you are but that's what makes Chrollo rather dangerous. He doesn't give up even if he is aware that it might just be impossible to keep darling for himself. You could say that capturing you and keeping you becomes his only desire in life. If he finds out even one weak spot of yours, he will abuse the hell out of it.

Machi Komacine

🪡 Machi is pretty much the tamest from the whole bunch in here. She doesn't really hunt others down or wants to steal their powers unless it's for the sake of the troupe and Chrollo.Otherwise Machi doesn't desire power solely for herself or gets into unnecessary conflicts, she's a more logical person after all. A chance encounter is therefore most likely to happen with her somewhere in a city. She doesn't assume anything the first time she stumbles upon them besides noting that they definitely tick a bit differently than the average person but she doesn't go out of her way to get to know them. In order for Machi to get closer to you, you'd have to be someone she meets more frequently so she eventually feels comfortable enough when you talk to her since she knows you a bit and you aren't anymore just a random stranger to her.

🪡 Machi has a good hunch so she has a feeling that you're special but she doesn't suspect you to be someone who could reshape the entire planet with a single thought and you won't tell her just like that either. You've already read her mind so you know all about her but also know that she isn't the type to analyze you and find your weak spots in order to use them against you. She is a good person but her position in the Phantom Troupe has you hesitating to admit to her the full truth. She's deadly loyal to them after all even if you would have no problem fighting and winning against her. You just don't want to, she's one of very few close people you have. From all people here Machi is the highest chances to be told the truth though, something that will even shock her more obviously than expected. She'd definitely advice you to continue keeping it a secret from others since everyone would otherwise come for you. Considering that she knows that you're aware of her own obsession anyways, she wouldn't deny it anymore but also guarantee to you that she would never harm you. She's fully aware that she wouldn't stand a chance against you either.

can i request headcanons of any hxh characters your choice (preferably including illumi, chrollo, and/or feitan) with a crush on/unestablished relationship with a gender neutral reader who refuses to fully align themselves with anyone but has an incredibly OP ability that requires their blood or body (can shoot blood in like spikes, detach their limbs to chase down and drag back runners, use their blood and/or tears to heal wounds, can just regrow lost limbs including their head, ect.) that would make being on their bad side more trouble then it's worth

so every fight they kind of /have/ to get injured to use it. Plus their ability weirdly doesn't seem to use nen (chrollo can't copy it and gyo doesn't show anything, ect.)

and when they're finally asked about it they're casually like "oh yeah, I'm not human. I was actually created to be an unstoppable force that infects and destroys humanity, but that's honestly too much work. Plus you give me snacks so I'd rather just hit whoever you tell me to." and their reactions to the fact this insanely overpowered goober they've fallen for is a stray shapeshifting little abomination who could have murdered the entire human race and that they're lowkey lucky reader likes getting bribed them so much

the way you met Illumi was... not ideal to say the least

he was on a job to kill some scientist guy but little did he know scientist guy had quite literally created a monster

the day he was going to do his mission happened to be the day your power was finally realized

annnndddd Illumi walked in on you killing scientist guy and literally everyone else who worked for him

you had managed to pop your arms off and launch them like missiles, turn your blood into weapons and spikes around the room and also not die????? and grow your limbs back???????????

the weird part was Illumi couldn't sense any of your aura at all

he just assumed you were a super advanced nen user and were able to still keep up hatsu really well while fighting

which led him to the conclusion that he should either A. run away or B. try and get you on his side

when you noticed him just standing there you turned to stare at him like come at me bitch

"So? Are you here to poke me with more needles like the others? It won't end very well." "Actually I was here for the guy in the lab coat, but it seems like you did the job for me."

realizing he wasn't a threat (or trying to be because you know...you cant die) you let down your guard down

you ended up just following him around after that, not really having anywhere else to go so Illumi decided on plan B

turns out it took a lot less manipulating than he thought

he brought you to the estate and you agreed to help him with whatever for a popeyes chicken sandwich

watching how you wandered around the estate aimlessly and lounged about Illumi quickly realized you only use your abilities when threatened or bribed

so you become his personal little treat fueled killing machine

he takes you on missions with him because he doesn't trust you alone at the estate...

eventually he asks you about how your hatsu is so good and you're like wtf is that

and he's like What.

you tell him you we're pretty much created in that lab and they did all these tests and stuff and you didn't even really know how or why you had the power you did but you found out you did the day you met

and you were all like "they were so annoying and they told me to do stuff for free, I'd never kill you though you feed me :3"

he is so glad you are clueless and he got to you before anyone else because you could take over the entire world if you really wanted to

he is going to marry you ASAP

but again, you being clueless did not understand what marriage entails

and you agreed for the same reasons you agreed to literally anything else this man has asked of you

you are Illumi's most prized possession and no matter how freaky you are, he really does cherish you as normal people would their spouse

running into you on a heist was definitely unexpected

especially since you looked like you just got out of captivity

mistaking him for an enemy you shot your fist off at him and barely missed

and he was like woah im not an opp dw

then your hand grows back and hes like !?

he asked why you were there you explain that you were some sort of war weapon yada yada yada the guys got annoying you killed them and yeah

and Chrollo offers you to come back w him and the troupe and you're like sure if you feed me

so after the heist is over Chrollo takes you back to Phantom Troupe hq and then talks with the gang blah blah blah dismisses everyone and then takes you to wherever the hell and buys you whatever you want to eat

"Your powers are pretty impressive. Mind telling me how they work?"

and not caring you tell him, mainly focused on your meal

and he's like huh what a useful ability time to steal it

one thing leads to another and he somehow gets you to touch his weird book and when he flips to where your nen should be the page is blank and he is insanely confused

and hes like "Why didn't my nen ability work on you?"

and you're like wtf is nen

and hes like oh my god I don't think this thing is human

so he asks

and you're like "I literally told you I'm a war weapon. A weapon created for war, but that's too much work."

now he is confused but also intrigued

he offers for you to join the troupe and you're like

so when the troupe got there you were already fighting some ants

you look human enough but your abilities make Feitan think you might not be

soooo he tries attacking you before he ended up getting to the lizzard ant crocodile lady thing i don't remember what she was

and he couldn't beat you and you're like wtf do you want from me I'm trying to do my job

and hes like oh and leaves you alone

then he throws the entire sun at the ant lady and leaves the building

Hisoka, Illumi, Chrollo with an s/o that was frightened by them

Hisoka

Though he lives for the thrill of fighting, he does like having someone to hold close. He will often pull pranks on his s/o as well since he tends to be a bit of a trickster. However, one of those tricks didn't go very well when you thought he was about to punch you

You ran off, but he did catch up to you pretty quickly. He caught sight of your frightened expression earlier too. While on most occasions he loves seeing fear and lives for it, he got worried about you. You never showed any form of fear around him, so this was a first

After stopping you, he asks if you were scared. You would have to explain your situation and let him know what you felt. He might not apologize outwardly, but he does give you a hug (he was always more of an actions-speak-louder-than-words person). "Why would I try to hurt you?" he might ask

He's horrible at calming people down btw (since all he does is make them panic more). He might not know what to do and instead just leave you to calm down by yourself for a little while. If you need him to just hold you for a bit, he'll do that, though there may be little to no words exchanged. He just tries his best to see what works for you and what makes you comfortable

Hisoka isn't the kindest person in hxh, but with an s/o that might be a bit different. He doesn't like seeing you upset around him and would definitely feel better

Illumi

Similar to Hisoka, he has no idea how to help someone if they are afraid or need to calm down. He's only learned how to shut people up using force after all, so his approach at first to calm you down might do the opposite of his intentions. You most likely ran off when you thought he was about to throw a needle in your direction when in reality there was a target behind you

Either way, he feels really bad about it, but has no idea why. His emotions aren't really grounded, so he knows he did something bad but isn't sure how to approach it. He does catch up to you extremely quickly though, but he demands an explanation right after.

Through tears, you might have to explain how you thought you were about to get killed. You were aware of your boyfriend being an assassin, so you do have all the right to flinch and flee, but Illumi might have to take a few seconds to understand.

"I wouldn't kill you though, you know you're important to me," his words are a bit dry, but you understand what he's trying to say. He can't hurt you because he cares too much about you, but the way he expresses it doesn't always translate well. If you need some time for yourself, he'll respect that but keep a watch on you from afar. He's horrible at hugging or any form of physical affection, so if you want a hug from him it might feel more like a stiff pat on your shoulder

Overall, he's a bit detached when trying to calm you down, but he does try his best to let you know you're safe with him. He'll never repeat that mistake ever again either.

Chrollo

Probably the best at approaching this situation out of the trio. He's extremely careful around you, but this one time he wasn't and you thought he was about to stab you with a knife. In reality, he was trying to move the knife away and leave the room but ran a bit too quickly in your direction.

He realizes his mistake when he sees you flinch and before you can run off he already has your hand in his and him asking if you are alright. He'll place the knife away from you and pull you closer, asking if you were frightened.

You'll be coerced into telling him how you felt all while he's holding you. He's learned mainly from books how to deal with situations like this, but if you just need some time for yourself he'll understand that as well. He tends to observe people really well, so he's really good at calming you down.

"I would never hurt you, I'm sorry I frightened you there," whether or not that apology is really genuine or not is depending on how much you trust his words. Do know however that he has no intention to hurt you ever while you guys are together.

Chrollo is probably the only one that has no difficulty calming you down or understanding what you felt. He'll keep this moment in his mind so in the future you don't get scared by him again.

I have LOOOTS of hcs for the both of them!! Ive been fixated on these two for four whole years i genuinely have too much to mention in one post lol so if you have any specific questions about specific hcs, do tell me!! Its a bit difficult to answer very broad questions like this bcs i dont know where to begin haha;;

I can very confidently say though, Illumi is absolutely nowhere near shy. At least-- not by the definition. In my eyes, Illumi is a very blunt and straightforward person with no social filter. I do like to think when it comes to hisoillu in general Illumi gets flustered here and there when dealing with his husband like any normal human in love is to be. But when it comes to being an actual shy introvert like hisoka-- absolutely not. You can tell the difference between how Illumi deals with people vs Hisoka. Hisoka is like the textbook definition of an introvert-- someone who constantly avoids people unless he wants to be the center of attention (mainly negative attention so it keeps people away anyways)

General hisoillu hcs would be... I like to humanize them. I like giving Illumi moles, stretch marks and arthritis from his transformation and eyebags from the amount of times he stays up for his missions. Also scars from his training that are faded. For hobbies I like to think hes extremely interested in learning. Just learning. Whatever hes learning doesnt matter, but knowledge is a very prominent fact about him and the zoldycks in general. So while I hc hes extensively knowledgable about anatomy and the economic and political states of the world (those pretty much canon tho lol) and the world in general, I like to always write him extending his knowledge in fics like learning a new language in his spare time or reading books in general. I could expand much more on hobbies including people watching and hanging out with his siblings but i feel like if there is a tumblr word limit i would 1000% exceed it lol.

I like to give Hisoka freckles on his tan skin (in the manga his skin is quite tan) that he hides and many more scars that are also hidden like he'd hide his arm scars after machi healed them. also the one time togashi drew him with hip dips. I liked that! I like to give him a human backstory like initially having a family that he either abandoned or was abandoned by to go on his own journey (not necessarily tragic, though i do not think tragic backstories take away from a character no matter how evil tbh. If anything, I strongly believe that babies are blank slates when it comes to morals until theyre taught otherwise by their environment.) And positive hobbies like cooking for himself because he only ever relies on himself and doesnt trust anybody else, which also goes with the hc of him not being a fan of taking any medication so hes a "tough it out" girlie. which also consequently affects other hcs like my trans hisoka hc and him not getting top surgery until after he married illumi because he does not trust a mf to put him under during it but he does trust illumi-- ITS A LOOONG STORY

I also like to consider their reoccurring personality traits as symptoms for neurodivergence. Like Illumi's bluntness and overly honest personality being autism and his highly emotional sides to him being BPD (i do have a thread on that!) and for Hisoka his hyperactivity and addiction for stimulating fights as ADHD (the adhd video i made abt him covers some of it lol) and you could argue a personality disorder for him as well to match with his hubby.

Also the queer hcs like i mentioned, transmasc genderfluid hisoka that doesnt mind all pronouns that i also hc as demiaroace and pansexual/bisexual while for Illumi I hc him as gay demiaroace agender, etc. These help a lot in figuring out their identities too.

Stuff like that are just the "layouts" for them in my brain that help me immensely when writing fics for them. You have to know everything extensively for the actions that they make to come naturally so when you throw them in a situation, you immediately know how they'd react (ex: sick hisoka would refuse to take meds, or more specifically like in my fic tolerate me darling hisoka was cramping and refused to take pain meds for it so illumi had to use his pins etc etc)

Those are pretty much the surface hcs i have for them that I always consider when it comes to any scenario or extra hc or fic/art or anything. For anything very specific, you'd have to ask about it for my brain to remember ehehe ^^

Hunter x Hunter: Tattoos

gwuh im looking at old fanarts of the phantom troupe and imagining different spider tattoo placements.

they're all rougly the same size relative to the person theyre on which is very hard to believe since we've seen a great number of them shirtless with no hint of a spider tattoo. looking directly at you feitan. and we got it confirmed that kortopi's isn't on his face, which is the real loss here :( it was on his face in spirit i just know it.

assuming that we can't have repeat locations, that elminates the small of the back, the left front torso, and between shoulderblades. and right palm if we're counting omokage but allegedly he's not canon so.

so that leaves a number of options that only apply to the few troupe members we haven't seen get their shirts ripped off. my top five coolest locations

option 1: Back of the neck. i think it would be super sexy to just have a spider crawling up or down the neck with its legs wrapping around the throat. it's not applicable to anyone in the troupe since most wear uncollared clothing. it could have been feitan but then he had several shots showing his clean neck. bonolenov as well. which leaves kortopi.

option 2: thigh. personally i give that to shalnark -at least the left thigh- because there's something about a high leg tattoo that feels like he'd get. its the most practical to hide; unless he is going completely nude or getting attacked in the leg, there is little to no reason for it to ever show. that and im choosing to believe the beach mobage cards where he's in swim trunks and we see no tattoo. someone else can have right thigh. probably bono because he also was unbandaged to the boxers and no tattoo.

option 3: calf. going with the theme of legs since we've barely seen most spiders show any ankles- i know, scandelous~~ - I think feitan would get his on his lower leg. because he sounds like the type to take 'being a leg' way too seriously. machi as well purely because. what are those sock things. i want them.

option 4: sternum. It would have been really poetic if chrollo got his in the center of his chest. unfortunately his first appearance has his tits and abs out. sir, put those away. paku also can't for obvious reasons. even though it would have been sexy as hell. idk who would have this really but it'd be very pretty. machi i guess is also an option but i doubt she would choose sternum.

option 5: bicep. a problem again because so many of these fucks wear short sleeves or no sleeves- looking at you shalnark- which leaves franklin and nobunaga as the two that can have bicep tattoos. technically paku as well.

my personal canon for the tattoos: Nobunaga - left bicep, Feitan - right ankle/calf, Machi - left ankle, Hisoka - shoulderblades, Kalluto - right shoulderblade, Phinks - right flank, Shalnark - left thigh, Franklin - right bicep, Shizuku - left torso, Pakunoda - left flank, Bonolenov - right thigh, Uvogin - small of back, Illumi - n/a, Kortopi - back of the neck, Chrollo - ???

if and when i get the ability to draw the troupe i might drop some doodles.
