thinking about ren's new skin and how when martyn died last session he turned into martyn as if to preserve him one last time. but something went wrong, and now he's stuck as himself and martyn, a lingering effect of his superpowers and a mark of his grief.

we know from gem and grian's videos that while gem is astral projecting grian can't copy her powers. grian even said the real gem isn't there anymore; there's just an empty shell until her soul returns to her body. if ren had tried to copy her dna while she was out of body would the same thing have happened? does the soul need to be present for their powers to work?

maybe that's why ren's stuck as two now. maybe, in his desperation to preserve martyn, he's irreversibly changed himself. when he looks in a mirror he'll be reminded that he's always got a part of martyn with him, but he'll also be reminded of all the ways he couldn't save him.

something something the use of brightly coloured umbrellas in the mygo op vs in ave mujica episode 3...

the umbrellas showing up as mygo is playing together and smiling, signifying how their togetherness is what keeps them going through the hardships they've endured.

the umbrellas showing up as mutsumi accepts mortis' offer of protection, the one she's holding turning into many floating through the sky. a necessary act of separation from the other members of ave mujica, but also an acceptance of mortis' existence and how she is needed for mustumi to keep going in the face of the trauma she's experienced/the stressful situations she is repeatedly being put into.

the umbrellas are an incredible way to display a sense (or lack thereof) of trust within the two bands, and the protection that comes with it. this symbolism seems too obvious to be purely coincidental, and i'm interested to see if it will continue throughout the remaining episodes of animuji...

You know what. Why do we as a touhou fandom not talk about the fact the pc98 songs are canon. They exist. In canon. Akyuu has them documented and has probably heard them. Someone within touhou's universe wrote them. Reimu could probably actually listen to her own theme. Were the songs actually written about the events of those games?? Was eternal shrine maiden written about reimu?? Was love colored magic written about marisa?? I'm going insane
