remembering on my circa 2017 booklr I used to tell people to read Gemma Doyle by describing it as trc but with an all girls boarding school / all girl group in a historical setting… I was trying to do the lord’s work she deserved tumblr fame
#I do think that was an oversimplification of both but. Not totally off base there are some similar char tropes used I’m proud of past me for#the attempt. Also I think I’m going to start advocating for Diviners in that way now that trc fandom is apparently quite miserable post GW#you like gay people doing dream magic? you like witchcraft and ghosts and strong ensemble casts?#you like an ambitious abuse survivor getting a healing arc with learning to control magic/psychic abilities as a metaphor? you like four#book series where the first three books rock and the last book which is named king + corvid is a bit underwhelm who said that?#a positive point in diviners favor is Ling x Wei Mei >>>> RonanKavinsky. Generally find the take on dream magic in diviners more compelling#(although LingHenry + RonanHennessy both being mlm wlw duos who are the dreamers is kinda fun)#anyway. This is not actually a fair comparison because Ling is my fav or at least top two w Theta of the leads and I love Ronan but he is m#least favorite of the trc leads of which there are four all of whom I love so it says nothing bad about him. But it does put me as an#outlier re: fandom priorities..#on the flip side while I love diviners dynamics sadly I don’t think they ever come anywhere close to Gangsey levels of extreme codependency#so I can not care quite as much….#from what I remember the girls in Gemma Doyle are a lot more codependent good for them. Would have to reread to compare codependency levels#Ling and Theta are both my favorite in diviners in the same way Blue and Adam are my favorite in trc and Abed and Annie are both my fav for#community. basically one char who I love and overidentify with (Ling/Blue/Abed) and one char I love who in many ways I’m not like#but in a handful of very niche specific ways I also relate quite a bit. And am fascinated with (Theta/Adam/Annie)#s speaks#very off topic from my initial point which was you should read Libba Bray’s books#and in both cases I have a second and a half tier fav (Evie/Gansey/Britta) who I love fictionally but if I was trapped in a room w them I’d#kill myself. with the white blonde women I’d also want to make out w them debatable if that makes it better or worse#but like. I could not stand listening to them speak for that long I know this#Gansey might just die a third time by my hands…

hiiii i think i sent you an anon a while ago about how i read ur fics + followed you before cdth and i genuinely came into the fandom thinking hennessey was a major player and who got baited like a mouse w cheese into that (+ overall premise of messy girls being terrible, which i thought u were exaggerating and was delighted to find out you were not at all). i am still someone who pretty much only reads ur writing for trc ever atp because. god. yeah.
re-entering trc fandom and seeing a character who was 1/2 of that series (and who i adored so deeply) was completely erased was... something, and cannot imagining seeing it as someone who was actively in that fandom. this is not to say much except that i am very very glad about ur dedication to women who suck and make horrible messy choices, and also i am so glad her arc in canon was well-done !!!!!
thanks for this!! i think like 90% of hennessy posts in the fandom were/are made by me LOL. the nice thing is that the dozen hennessy enjoyers on tumblr have a kind of close-knit small fandom vibe (when we don't have each other blocked bc all of us have very annoying personalities), but she SHOULD have a bigger fandom.

Top Five Book (Series) From 2020:
Yeah, I am late, do I still want to do this? Yes.
1. All for the Game: I think it takes no one by surprise when I say this is my favorite series I read in 2020, and is my favorite book series of all time. Just look at my blog its an aftg fan page at this point.
2. The Tarot Sequence: This book series. How do I even begin? It was definetly the best written thing I read this year, it definitly should be more like a 1.5, cause its basically tied for first place in favorite book series, aftg just barely tops it. Canon ace/demi rep, canon nb rep, a polyam relationship where one half is queer platonic (tho part of me hopes that becomes romantic and then they close the triangle with a qpp with the other two, but like, that’s just my hopeless romantic side talking and if/when they remain platonic I will not be mad), where the platonic relationship is more important to the MAIN character, and that is UNDERSTOOD by the love interest. They adopt so many kids. They kick pedo ass. It has goofy adult/inappropriate humor (he has a magic cock ring, and no it’s not even used for sex). And so many trigger warnings that I am putting a read more for them, cause its... whoooboy, it’s an adult book for a reason.
3.The Raven Cycle/The Dreamers Trilogy: I feel like I need to say, trc was a re read, tdt was a read for the first time. I love this book series, Gansey is like, still one of my top comfort characters, it got me back into writing, rodansy takes up 30% of my brain at any given time.
4.Simon Snow Series: I really enjoy this series, but I think the first one is worlds better then the second. One of the main plot points in the second is characters refusing to comunitcate with each other ((Spoilers: Simon thinks Baze wants to break up with him, so he is going to before Baze can, but the whole time Baze is just waiting for Simon to break up with him because he thinks Simon doesn’t actually love him.)) Which is my least favorite trope of all time. Just talk to each other, please. But there was some other things I really liked in it. I am looking forward to the next book.
5. My Androgynous Boyfriend: This is such a cute manga, I love it so freaking much. This is just such a sweet series about a couple that’s been together for years, and are stable and love each other, and just their everyday lives as their jobs shift around, and just. Such a good series to read if you don’t want something super intense.
I am a weird person who does not like trigger warnings, I don’t want to know, cause it’s the only thing I can think about the entire time, but I know that people out there need them, so. Trigger warnings:
1. All for the Game: I feel like there are so many lists out there that can tell you all of the trigger warnings for this series, the main ones are, mc gets tortured twice its graphic, second main character gets raped/sexually assaulted and is a csa survivor (which is talked about. quite a lot.), drug use (none consensual, and consensual.), they go to bars they get drunk. Kevin is an alcoholic just. Alcohol.
2. The Tarot Sequence: Graphic Descriptions of Violence. Graphic Descriptions of Past Rape. Non Consensual Drug Use. Psychological Torture. Panic Attacks. Sexual Content (Consensual). Alcohol Consumption (Consensual). (this is a copy from one of my youtube videos, so that is why it seems so much more put together.).
3. The Raven Cycle: Ronan drinks a lot in the first couple books, there’s drug usage in the second one, and someone sends ‘revenge porn’ also in the second book (is it revenge porn if you where never together and you’re just sending some ones nude from their phone to their friend? Either way someone gets an eye-full and they where not supposed to see). I don’t know how to ‘tag’ this but at one point in the third book I think, they set up one of the villains for being a pedophile, and while it’s not graphic (cause even tho there is more graphic stuff in here, Maggie does keep it YA), it is talked about.
I’m pretty sure the last two don’t have anything, unless you have a trigger that is odd/not something that is common, in which case, I can’t help and I’m sorry.

In Which Our Hero Begins His Adventure
Hey guys, like the triangles? I got them from this magical place called the 1990s.
For those of you unfamiliar with what I am doing, I guess I better fill you in. So there’s this guy on the internet who invented the Day Zero Project, or as we call it, a 101 List. It’s a list of 101 goals to be completed in 1,001 days. Whatever you want to accomplish – going sky diving, reading your height in books, trying that thing you wanted to try – but with a deadline on it so you can be motivated to get it done. When I first met Sara, she was in the middle of her second 101 List. And though I hadn’t started dating her yet, I knew that this kind of thing was right up my alley. I started one myself close to the time we started dating, and finished it in the spring of 2016. I’ll send you a link to the guy and the website that got this whole thing started, as well as to Sara’s 101 list blog. If you haven’t started following her yet, well, what’s wrong with you? Get on it!
https://dayzeroproject.com
http://emmisary.blogspot.com
Anyway, she’s on her third 101 list now, and I started this year happily content with just making ideas for my second 101 list as I spun through the white water rapids of graduate school. I told myself I’d start my next list when I was at least done with classes.
However.
The more I came up with ideas for my list, the more excited I got for them. I sat thinking about what fun I would have trying my hand at getting actually decent at an arcade game for once, only to come back to reality just in time for my professor to say, “And everything I just said is going to be on the test.”
Just kidding. I would never* daydream in class.
Anyway, that’s when I knew I had to get started. If I’m this excited about it, it’s a sign that I should go ahead with it, right? So here we are. You’ll see below you what I plan to accomplish from January 16th 2017 to October 13th 2019. And I’ll be in grad school. So yeah, I guess I’m trying to do everything. Most likely what will happen is you’ll see me checking in with a photo or two on my Instagram when I make baby steps on finishing each goal.
Now don’t worry, go sit back in your seat, put the tomato down. I promise I’ll actually write up something solid when I get an entire goal finished. Pinky promise. Because I am a responsible* adult, I will likely only post about the goals that have to do with school for the first bit, but if you’re lucky, I just may do something interesting now and then. You never know. Anyway, before I ramble on for another four paragraphs…
